A Correspondent- US-based Chimurenga music Icon Thomas Mapfumo has blasted the government for not honouring living heroes.

In a video he posted on his Facebook page Wednesday, Mkanya said it was painful to learn that the government had forgotten legends like the late George Shaya.

Shaya (77) passed away early Tuesday at his home in Glen Norah, Harare.

He is the only player to be named Soccer Star of The Year five times, in 1969, 1972, 1975, 1976 and 1977.

Dynamos Football Club Tuesday wrote to The Zimbabwe Football Association ZIFA to requesting the authorities award the late George Shaya with a Hero status.

Mapfumo said taking Shaya to the heroes acre would not help the family he left behind.
