Upper – Middle- Class Economy For Shurugwi As Gold Mining Intensifies | OPINION

By Kelvin Kasiwulaya | In support of President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa’s vision to transform Zimbabwe into a upper middle class economy by 2030, Shurugwians have since maximized production in the Gold mining sector.

Shurugwi’ s artisanal gold miners have become the leading gold producers in Zimbabwe, producing close to 38 kilograms of gold per month( Statistics from Shurugwi Small Scale Miners Association).

To complement the mining sector, Shurugwi North Legislator Hon Ronald Robson Nyathi has since commissioned a trust meant for the development of Shurugwi through Gold mining.

In an interview, the Shurugwi North Legislator who also doubles as the Zanu-PF Midlands Province Vice Chairman noted that, more than 4000 jobs have been created in the mining sector and Gold mining has since intensified.

“Through the Shurugwi Development Trust we have created more than 4000 jobs in Shurugwi’s gold mining industry, most of the youth and women are working at Wanderer and Lulu mines.

“The Gold proceeds from our small scale miners goes to Fidelity Printers hence boosting Zimbabwe’s gold reserves and fiscal muscle, ” said Cde Nyathi.
