Tinashe Sambiri|Teachers have described the Zanu PF regime’s decision to enforce the opening of schools without adequate consultations as suicidal.

COVID-19 cases are gradually increasing in schools around the country and this has been attributed to the regime’s failure to involve key stakeholders in consultations.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou slammed the regime for exposing teachers and pupils to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

“Decision to open schls was suicidal. Cases at Nyamuka Pri and Kriste Mambo (Manic), Tongwe High (Mat South), and Neshangwe High (Mash East). With more than 100 case of affected students Masase and Chegato High Schools (where I learnt), are the most affected. Cry the blvd pupils,” argued Zhou.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe national coordinator Harrison Mudzuri said:

The tragedy with the Zim gvt is that its decisions for the education sector are made by non teachers.

These aliens to the education sector decided the opening of schools.

Consulting wrong people will always produce wrong results.

These aliens decided exam time table and the results of the exams.

They decide the salaries and working conditions for teachers.

They decide the discipline procedures for teachers.

Strange enough, the education sector resembles life in the barracks.
