In a brazen robbery that has shocked the local community, five armed robbers raided a church in Marlborough, Harare, on the night of October 31, 2024, making off with more than US$54,000 in cash.
According to the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP), the suspects, all male and armed with a pistol, attacked two security guards who were on duty at the church complex.
The robbery unfolded at around 11 PM when the thieves, wearing balaclavas to conceal their identities, gained access to the church’s premises.
“The suspects ransacked the church complex and stole US$54,200.00 cash which was in a safe,” confirmed the ZRP in a statement.
The incident, which occurred at the Goodhope Church in Marlborough, has left both local authorities and the public alarmed.
The police are currently investigating the case and have urged anyone with information to come forward.
The robbers’ boldness was further highlighted by their swift attack on the two unarmed security guards.
Fortunately, no one was reported injured during the incident, but the emotional impact of such a traumatic event has left the community shaken.
The ZRP statement continued: “Police in Marlborough are investigating a case of robbery which occurred at a church in Goodhope, Harare, on 31/10/24 at around 2300 hours.
Five male suspects, who were armed with a pistol, and wearing balaclavas, attacked two security guards who were on duty.”
The heist comes just days after another robbery in Harare. On November 1, two women reportedly stole US$7,000 from a homeowner in Glenwood, Epworth.
The robbery also occurred around 11 PM, suggesting a surge in criminal activity during late hours in the capital.
While authorities continue to piece together the details of these two incidents, the police are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that might help in bringing the perpetrators to justice. The ZRP is also intensifying its patrols to deter further criminal activities.
As investigations unfold, the community remains hopeful that the criminals behind these daring heists will be apprehended soon.
