Liverpool manager Arne Slot has urged his players to stay vigilant, reminding them that their current seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League could quickly evaporate if they become complacent.
The Reds extended their advantage with a hard-fought 3-1 victory over Leicester City on Boxing Day. Despite falling behind early to a goal from Jordan Ayew in the sixth minute, Liverpool responded with goals from Cody Gakpo, Curtis Jones, and Mohamed Salah to secure the win.
In reflecting on the title race, Slot pointed to Manchester City’s dramatic drop from first to seventh as a cautionary tale.
“When you’ve been in this game for a long time, you know that with 20 games to go, you don’t pay attention to the table,” Slot said after the match. “Just a month ago, we were one point behind City, and look at where they are now. This can happen to any team, so it’s far too early to celebrate. We’ve all witnessed the challenges, and many of our victories haven’t come easily. It shows how tough it is to win, even with a full squad. We must continue to take it one game at a time.”
