Why Accident Victims Must Not Be Given Water
27 January 2025
Giving water to accident victims, especially those with severe injuries, is not advisable for several reasons:
- Internal injuries: The victim may have internal injuries, such as bleeding or organ damage, that can be worsened by drinking water.
- Shock: Accident victims may be in shock, and drinking water can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure, making the situation worse.
- Swallowing difficulties: Injured victims may have difficulty swallowing due to head or neck trauma, which can lead to choking or aspiration.
- Anesthesia complications: If the victim needs surgery, drinking water can complicate anesthesia administration and increase the risk of complications.
- Delayed diagnosis: Giving water may mask symptoms, making it harder for medical professionals to diagnose the extent of the injuries.
It’s essential to follow proper first aid protocols and seek medical attention immediately. Medical professionals will assess the victim’s condition and provide appropriate treatment.
