Was Detective Cassandra Hove Killed by Her Own Colleagues? Family Demands Justice Amid Explosive Funeral Drama

Bulawayo – A funeral service for the late Detective Constable Cassandra Hove descended into chaos yesterday as her grieving family halted proceedings, alleging that she was not killed by armed robbers as claimed by police—but by one of her own colleagues.

The emotional send-off at Nyaradzo Funeral Parlour was scheduled to begin at 10 AM, but tensions quickly escalated as mourners confronted police officers in attendance, accusing them of withholding the truth about Hove’s death.

Family Rejects Police Narrative

Angry relatives openly challenged police officers, demanding answers about who really fired the fatal shot that took Hove’s life last Thursday night during a raid in Pumula South.

“There is something suspicious about all this. Why did the police rush to conduct a post-mortem without our consent or knowledge?” fumed one female family member.

“Why were they collecting bereavement monies without our knowledge? Where did that money go?”

Another relative questioned why the police had failed to notify the family immediately after Hove was killed.

“Why did the police notify us about her death hours after she had been killed? They also demanded her mobile phones and title deeds to the house for reasons best known to them,” she added.

The family accused the police of deliberately keeping them in the dark and vowed to uncover the truth.

Shocking Admission: Police Confirm Fellow Officer Was Involved

The family’s worst fears were confirmed after a meeting with senior ZRP officials in Bulawayo.

Family spokesperson Ryan Gambinga delivered a bombshell revelation:

“While we initially received conflicting reports, our recent meeting with ZRP Bulawayo has confirmed that a fellow police officer, and not armed robbers, was involved in this devastating incident.”

The claim has sparked national outrage and raised serious concerns about a possible police cover-up.

A Demand for Justice: Family Vows to Fight On

“If our concerns are not addressed, then they might as well bury her themselves—after all, she belonged to the State. The police must be held accountable, and we will not stop questioning them until we are satisfied,” the family declared.

Determined to get full transparency, Mr. Gambinga emphasized that the family would not rest until a thorough investigation is conducted.

“This revelation raises profound questions and intensifies our grief. We are committed to uncovering the complete truth and ensuring that justice is served,” he said.

Where Was Team Lozikeyi?

Notably absent from the funeral were Hove’s colleagues from the elite all-female Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Homicide Unit, Team Lozikeyi.

Their absence fueled further speculation, as the unit has been widely recognized for its groundbreaking work in tackling violent crime.

Hove’s Bright Future Cut Short

Adding to the family’s heartbreak, they revealed that Hove had recently secured a scholarship to Russia to pursue a degree in forensic investigations.

“We had sorted all her paperwork and were in the process of securing funds. This is truly a tragedy,” Mr. Gambinga said.

Hove leaves behind four young children, who must now grow up without their mother.

Police Leadership Silent as Pressure Mounts

Attempts to get an official response from national police spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi were unsuccessful. Bulawayo province acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, referred all questions to him.

A Country Demands Answers

As Cassandra Hove is laid to rest today in Mberengwa, the mystery surrounding her death deepens.
• Was this truly an accident, or was it something more sinister?
• Why did the police allegedly move so quickly to control the narrative?
• Will the full truth ever come to light?

With the family refusing to back down, this story is far from over.
