People who dressed like this in the rear in Maputo played a huge part in organising the war effort logistically, ideologically and strategically, among them broadcasters like Charles Ndlovu (now Webster Shamu), singers like Dixon Chingaira (Cde Chinx) typists and others that include Christopher Mutsvangwa, pictured here in 1979. Cde Oppah Muchinguri as well, although she also did war front duties.

Cde Mutsvangwa is one of the few people who went to war as a bachelor and had the luxury to come back home with a beautiful wife.

Many Cdes left wives and girlfriends behind and came back to find them.either killed in the war or married.

Whatever roles Cde Mutsvangwa and Monica his wife played in Maputo during the war must be celebrated as heroic.

However Cde Mutsvangwa must not self appoint himself as the Chief Appraiser of individual war efforts of others, especially those that actually bore the pain and suffering at the war front. That’s very disrespectful to say the least.

It is insulting. He attacked the late Rex Nhongo (Gen Mujuru) and the late Robert Mugabe in 2020, and now he is attackinc General Chiwenga, belittling them as meaningless nobodies to the war effort, and vaingloriously so.- Comment by Reason Wafawarova
