By Dorrothy Moyo | ZimEye | Watson Flexy Munyaka, a known follower of controversial clerics Shepherd Bushiri and Uebert Angel, has tragically died under circumstances that are sparking heated debate on social media.
Munyaka’s passing comes in the wake of a tense online confrontation with socialite Patience Mangezi, who shared a series of exchanges (attached) that indicate Munyaka had made unsettling statements, some hinting at threats and an expectation of conflict.
“He was threatening me that day, and things spiraled until people were asking, is this even about asking, ‘Where is Mutsa?’ It became a much bigger issue,” Mangezi recounted. According to her, the saga started when she commented on a post involving Maynard Manyowa, the official spokesman for Shepherd Bushiri, inquiring about Mutsa, believed to be one of Manyowa’s wives.
“This was about Maynard’s wives. Remember, he has many. I asked a simple question, ‘Where is Mutsa?’ Then Watson Munyaka came at me aggressively, questioning me and eventually threatening to come looking for me,” Mangezi explained.
She further claims that Manyowa joined the fray, admonishing her for probing into his family matters before allegedly launching a tirade of insults.
The incident has peeled back a wider history of online hostilities involving Munyaka, Manyowa, and their circles, who have, according to Mangezi, “stepped on a lot of toes” much like their spiritual leaders, Bushiri and Angel.
Shepherd Bushiri and Uebert Angel, who have long been dogged by controversy, are currently embroiled in legal and political battles in Malawi. Angel recently made headlines after threatening the Malawian president with electoral defeat should the government fail to honor Bushiri. Meanwhile, Bushiri faces extradition to South Africa over serious criminal allegations, implicating both himself and Angel.
The ripple effect of these controversies appears to extend to their followers. “Just like their spiritual fathers, Maynard and Watson have been stirring up trouble for years,” Mangezi added.
Adding fuel to the fire, Uebert Angel remains under scrutiny in Zimbabwe following his appearance in the explosive Gold Mafia documentary, where he brazenly claimed to be the second most powerful person in the country.
Watson Munyaka’s death—reportedly linked to a violent incident involving him being thrown from a moving vehicle, according to other social media posts—has further stoked debate on the influence and actions of the so-called “spiritual sons” of Bushiri and Angel.
Authorities are yet to confirm details surrounding Munyaka’s death. However, the incident has prompted wider reflection on the toxic dynamics of social media confrontations and the dangerous power plays within these prophetic circles.
