President Robert Mugabe’s nephew and Indigenisation Minister Patrick Zhuwao, has begun banishing Chinese and Indian retail businesses.
The sector according to the “ever shifting” black empowerment laws, is reserved for locals.
It is however occupied by Indian, Chinese and Nigerian nationals who are into car spares and food stuff selling.
Zhuwao said starting next year government will be evicting foreigners who are in the retail sector.
“Starting next year in January we will be enforcing and following the indigenisation laws, where I will be pronouncing that there are reserved sectors which are for Zimbabweans.
“The truth at the moment is that these reserved sectors have been infiltrated by foreigners and the problem with these foreigners is that they are taking all the money and profits to their countries “, he said.
This is not the first time government has threatened to displace foreigners who are in the retail sector.
Five years ago some pro-Zanu PF youths groups which include Upfumi Kuvadiki wrecked havoc in Harare when they tried to evict Nigerians from these sectors.
The organisation staged several demonstrations against the awarding of a street parking contract to a South African company Easi-Park by the Harare city council.
Zhuwao said companies which refuse to indigenise will be forced to pay an indigenisation levy which will also be introduced early next year.
“We are saying because of that when we enforce the empowerment levy we shall put some rebates but those who would benefit from these rebates will to the extent of that company,” said Zhuwao.

There can be no black empowerment because that would mean that the blacks dont have power. They are running the country. Now if you were to look at the people that are ruining the country they are also, unfortunately ….. yes….. BLACK. So to kick out the Nigerians is to say that they are not erm………. black. Oh this government is the pits. If I were a Nigerian I would stay in my own country as although life there sux, its 100% better than a country with a failed economy.
Uyu naDokora ndivo pasina nezvemaMinister.
Rubbish, all wqe need is gud service at fair prices. Some of the locals can not run these businesses or supply items that we desparetely need.
