The Zimbabwean government has been slapped for “insulting” civil servants by not paying their salaries.
As they approach Christmas day, civil servants woke up yesterday to realise all they have are cashless payslips. Only the army and CIO have been paid.
This follows Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa’s announcement that salaries for Civil Servants would be paid on time.
The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) secretary general, Raymond Majongwe, says workers have been insulted.
“They have insulted us. At a time when President Robert Mugabe hosts a banquet for Cabinet Ministers and top Zanu PF officials, we wake up to see this.
Our government is clearly insensitive and most people will not be able to enjoy Christmas with their families. We are not even sure whether the government will be able to pay salaries after Christmas as per their promise and it is even worse when it’s come to the payment of 2015 annual bonuses,” he said.
It is understood through the Public Service Commission (PSC) that the new pay date for state workers has been set for 28th December.
But Majongwe maintains that there is no certainty to that either. “Even after Christmas, I do not think they will meet their obligations,” he said.
