Local residents have called on Masvingo City Council (MCC) to resort to dialogue rather than taking legal action.
Speaking to ZimEye.com yesterday, prominent human rights activist and Masvingo Residents Trust Chairperson Prosper Tiringindi urged the local authority to reconsider its proposed move to take legal action against defaulting residents- in the payment of water bills.
Last week Masvingo City Council threatened to engage debt collectors to help the local authority recover millions of dollars in unpaid water bills.
“We are against the move as you know that Zimbabwean Citizens are facing serious cash woes.
We advise the city council to come up with a flexible payment plan .
Council should first collect areas from government departments before they come to general residents .
We know that the army and other government department have arrears as well,” said Tiringindi.
