By Own Correspondent| Tension in the Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) church in Zimbabwe reached a boiling point on Saturday following a vote of no confidence against leader Reverend Aspher Madziyire  and several other church leaders at a meeting led by Reverend Cosum Chiangwa.

The vote of no confidence which has been described by other church stalwarts as a “coup” has reportedly split the church into two.

Chiangwa, together with the national workers council passed a vote of no confidence against Madziyire and his administration accusing them of tinkering with the constitution to defer the elections and extend Madziyire’s executive stay in power.

The church released a statement following Madziyire’s  ‘coup’

“The AFM national council, part of its councilors and about 750 assembly members convened at Rufaro Conference center in Masvingo today to elect its new leadership today.

The AFM decided to stay with the original constitution ,chose its interim National and provincial representatives until elections in October.

President: Rev C. Chiangwa, Deputy. Rev A. Chinyemba, Secretary, N. Nhira, Administrator, Elder Sebata.”

Meanwhile, the ousted Madziyire is adamant that the ‘coup’ was illegal and he will be approaching the high court to nullify the outcome of the gathering.
