By Own Correspondent- The remaining two bodies of miners who were trapped underground in a mine at Battlefields near Kadoma have finally been retrieved, a senior government minister has revealed.

Addressing the media at a post Cabinet briefing on Thursday, acting Information minister Sekai Nzenza said the two remaining bodies which had been trapped underground for over a month.

Said Nzenza:

“This brings closure to the rescue efforts pertaining to the Battlefields Mine Disaster. Cabinet once again expresses its deepest condolences to the affected families and the artisanal mining fraternity in general.”

Eight people were rescued alive after being trapped underground for four days when mine shafts at the Cricket 3 Mine were inundated with flood waters on February 12. At least 28 miners died in the disaster.

The Battlefields Mine Disaster has prompted Cabinet Ministers to pledge law reforms to legalise the activities of the artisanal miners which they hope will lead to greater safety.
