By A Correspondent-President Emerson Mnangagwa’s Zanu PF government has announced that it is in the process of deregistering at least 450 non-governmental organisations (NGOs) for what it said being dormant.
The state media reports that it is Government’s position that there is no need to keep on the books organisations that are not carrying out any activities in line with the terms of their registration.
Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima told the state media that the Government had since published the names of the organisations in question.
The Zanu PF has a history of targeting NGOs which are critical of its governance. Previously, NGOs which are into human rights and peace promotion programming had been targeted and deregistered.
