Police Not Yet Ready For Battle With Highlanders Fans

By Paul Nyathi|Police in Bulawayo refused to sanction the much awaited Premier Soccer League match between Highlanders and Dynamos as they are not yet ready to handle the Highlanders fans ZimEye.com is reliably informed.

Sources within the police in Bulawayo indicated that the match was called off by the PSL on instructions from the police who claimed that they do not have adequate personnel and equipment to handle the usually volatile Highlanders fans at Barbourfields stadium in Bulawayo.

“Most police officers and equipment from the support unit at Fairbridge who normally man the Highlanders matches are still deployed out especially in Harare where the situation has not been declared stable following the post election violence,” said the source.

PSL spokesperson Kudzai Bare said they acted on a directive from their superiors.

“The match was cancelled for logistical reasons. I cannot comment further than that,” she said.

PSL last week postponed all the league matches following the violent incidents that rocked the post-election period in Harare.

The league had also shelved matches the previous week.

Police always have a handful against Highlanders fans especially when the Bulawayo giants clash with their perennial rivals Dynamos.

Chiwenga Appointment Unconstitutional

LEGAL think-tank Veritas has described Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s appointment as Defence minister as unconstitutional, adding this should be reversed when President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa appoints his new Cabinet.

Soon after his inauguration last November, Mnangagwa appointed Chiwenga, who had led the soft coup on former President Robert Mugabe, as Defence and War Veterans Affairs minister.

But in a statement yesterday, Veritas said the move was unconstitutional.

“A further point is that Vice-President Chiwenga is appointed as Minister of Defence, and his entitlement to hold that portfolio is open to challenge since section 215 of the Constitution states that the President must appoint a Minister — not a Vice-President — to be responsible for the Defence Forces,” Veritas said.

Chiwenga’s appointment was announced through a Press statement last December, but he was not legally assigned the duties.

Meanwhile, Veritas slammed the killing of civilians last Wednesday by army personnel.

Last Wednesday, the army was deployed to quell an MDC Alliance protest over Zimbabwe Electoral Commission’s delay in announcing presidential poll results.

The army was called in to assist the police quash the riots and gunfire was heard in Harare city centre, resulting in seven people losing their lives and many injured.

“Obviously, the defence forces should not be deployed lightly. Their members are trained to kill rather than to use peaceful means of persuasion,” Veritas said.

“They are the ultimate coercive arm of the State, to be used only as a last resort when gentler ways of compelling citizens to obey the law have failed. That is why the Constitution reserves to the President the right to order their deployment.”

According to reports, the army was called in at the instance of the police in terms of section 37 of the Public Order and Security Act (Posa), but Veritas said the section does not mention the President at all, and seems to give the Defence minister power to deploy without consultations.

“It is unlikely that the deployment was, in fact, ordered by the minister without involving the President, but if that is what happened, then the deployment was illegal. If, on the other hand, the President did, in fact, authorise the deployment, then it was lawful under the Constitution regardless of any deficiency in section 37 of the Public Order and Security Act or any defect in Vice-President Chiwenga’s appointment,” Veritas said.

The legal think-tank said whether the members of the defence forces were trying to restore order on the authority of the President under section 213 of the Constitution or on the authority of the Defence minister under section 37 of Posa, in either event, they were bound to obey the law, like everyone else in Zimbabwe.

“While they can use whatever reasonable force is needed to quell a riot, they are not entitled to kill anyone because the right to life is inviolable under the Constitution,” it said.

Chihuri To Pay $1200 Maintenance To His Former Junior He Impregnated

By Paul Nyathi| A Bulawayo magistrate has ordered former Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri to pay $1 250 every month for the maintenance of a minor child sired with his estranged mistress, who is a top cop in the city.

The ruling by Mr Usheunesu Matova follows an application by Chihuri’s estranged mistress, Ms Sithulisiwe Mthimkhulu, who sought an order compelling the former police boss to pay $1 960,60 monthly for the upkeep of their daughter.

Initially, Ms Mthimkhulu, who is an Assistant Commissioner, wanted a lump sum maintenance of $240 000 from the former police boss for the upkeep of their child who is in Grade Four.

She also wanted Chihuri to pay $3 655 per term for school fees, $349 in monthly medical aid and $650 as monthly maintenance for the upkeep of their daughter after defaulting in payment.

In a default judgement delivered yesterday, Mr Matova ordered Chihuri to pay $1 250,60 every month for the upkeep of their child.

“It is hereby ordered that the respondent shall contribute $1 250,60 as maintenance for his child until she attains the age of 18 years or becomes self-supporting, whichever occurs first, with effect from July 2018,” ruled Mr Matova. “The respondent shall deposit the money into the applicant’s bank account.”

In papers before the court, Ms Mthimkhulu was the applicant, while Chihuri was cited as the respondent.

Ms Mthimkhulu told the court that her ex-lover had the means to pay the money, arguing that he earned more than $10 000 in monthly pension allowances.

“He earns over $10 000 in the form of monthly pension, as well as the income he gets from his personal businesses which include a mine in Shamva and he collects monthly rentals from several houses that he owns,” she said.

In her summons, Ms Mthimkhulu revealed that she and the retired police boss had a child together born on July 2 in 2009.

She said Chihuri neglected her from the time she fell pregnant and has failed to take care of his daughter.

“When it was time for us to go and get the child’s birth certificate, the respondent refused,” she said. “I ended up doing it all on my own and that is why the child bears my surname and not his.”

Chihuri, in his opposing affidavit, said his monthly pension was $2 668 and he has four other children who depend on him.

He also contended that the payment of school fees and clothes for the child should be shared equally between the two parties.- State Media

“Concede Defeat” VOPEEG Tells Chamisa

Nyasha Munangwa

By Own Correspondent| The Voice Of the People Economic Empowerment Group (VOPEEG) has urged the MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa to accept defeat for the just ended harmonised polls arguing that refusal to concede defeat by the opposition was detrimental to social and economic progress in the country.

Nyasha Munangwa, Secretary General of VOPEEG  said Zimbabweans should give the disputed President elect Emmerson Mnangagwa a chance to steer the country forward since he possessed “mature leadership qualities to change the country’s economic fortunes”.

Below is the full statement by the VOPEEG.

“We are greatly disturbed by a culture of incitement and violence which has become the hallmark of some of the losing candidates in the just concluded harmonised elections ,particularly the MDC Alliance leaders who have made a deliberate and conscious decision to disregard and subvert the will of the people by refusing to accept the Presidential election results.

We truly believe that such a contrary spirit is detrimental to both the social and economic development of our beloved Zimbabwe.

If indeed the MDC Alliance has the interests of the Zimbabwean people at heart as they want the world to believe, why don’t they do the honourable thing i.e accept the results which we believe reflect the true will of the people of Zimbabwe and allow the country to move forward?

Zimbabwe cannot be held to ransom by a few power hungry individuals who think that governing a country in a dire economic situation like ours is kindergarten stuff. The business of extricating our country from the jaws of total economic collapse is a serious one which demands a substantial degree of maturity and soberness and we believe that HE President ED Mnangagwa possesses those qualities.

Our situation is peculiar which requires mature leaders of unquestionable principles who can unite our people at this critical juncture. We therefore call upon all retrogressive forces to abandon their selfish interests and join hands the with the President elect and his government as he embarks on an extraordinary journey of rebuilding our great nation.

To our fellow Zimbabweans we say let us all get out of the election mode and position ourselves for the soon to be released economic opportunities.

We implore all Zimbabweans regardles of our tribe, colour or creed to rally behind President ED Mnangagwa as he continues with the journey of bringing healing to our wounded nation and forster economic development, the journey which he began in November 2017.In our view,it would be totally unfair and insensitive to have expected President Mnangagwa to bring total economic recovery within a period of 8 months he has been at the helm.

What cannot be denied though is that he has done exceptionally well and is on the right path. The results are there for all with clean hearts and clear consciences to see.

Together we can give birth to a Zimbabwe we all wish for.

Mnangagwa Rules Out Possibility Of A GNU

By Paul Nyathi| Disputed President elect Emmerson Mnangagwa has ruled out the possibility of an inclusive Government when he appoints his new Cabinet if he is cleared by the courts to be inaugurated as the president.

In his first interview with British television station, Sky News, after the July 30 polls where he was declared winner with 50,8 percent against his closest rival Nelson Chamisa of the MDC-Alliance who got 44, 3 percent of the total votes cast, Mnangagwa said there is no way he is going to relinquish his party’s two thirds parliamentary majority and share governance.

Mnangagwa’s ZANU PF got 145 seats of the 210 in the House of Assemble.

“In 1964 Harold Wilson of Britain had one seat, beating the Conservatives by one seat and he formed a Government and ruled England and I have two thirds majority and you are talking about me abandoning my two thirds majority to set a Government of National Unity?”

“Not that it’s a bad idea but it doesn’t show that there is any need. I am saying politics should now take the back seat because the elections are behind us.Those who have voted against me, those who voted for me, we say Zimbabwe is ours together.

“Let’s move on. The best argument, the best vision, the best ideas have taken the day.”

Mnangagwa said the elections were free and fair though the opposition, principally MDC-Alliance, was always making threats of violence even during the campaigning period.

“It (election) was free, fair, transparent process from the period of campaigning to the period of actual voting. Everybody has declared the process, free, peaceful and transparent,” said Cde Mnangagwa.

“This single one (MDC-Alliance) which you spoke about was inciting violence even during the time of campaigning although during that time no violence occurred. That is their identity,” he said.

“Their identity is that of violence.”

How Zimbabwe’s First Election After Mugabe Went Wrong

Zimbabwe’s July 30 elections were meant to be a new beginning for a nation driven to its knees during two decades of misrule by the autocratic Robert Mugabe.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa, who took office in November after the military briefly seized power and the ruling party forced Mugabe to quit, had promised a credible vote and invited Western observers who’d been banned from three previous elections to scrutinize proceedings.

But by the time Mnangagwa was declared the winner of the presidential vote in the early hours of Aug. 3, the southern African nation’s hopes of a democratic revival lay in tatters. Six people died after the army opened fire in response to unrest that erupted over the results in Harare, the capital.

Nelson Chamisa, leader of the main opposition Movement for Democratic Change Alliance, rejected the outcome as rigged and several observer groups noted flaws in the electoral process.

1. What did the official results show?

Mnangagwa secured 50.8 percent of the presidential vote, a shade more than the majority needed to avoid a runoff, while Chamisa got 44.3 percent, according to Priscilla Chigumba, a judge who chairs the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

The balance went to the other 20 candidates or were spoiled. The ruling Zimbabwe African National Union-Patriotic Front won 144 of the 210 directly elected seats in the National Assembly and Chamisa’s alliance took 64.

The National Patriotic Front, another opposition party, and an independent candidate won one each.

2. What are the opposition’s complaints?

Chamisa’s alliance has a litany of objections. Prior to balloting, it complained that the voters’ role was inaccurate, there were inadequate controls over the ballot papers and the electoral commission was biased — allegations the panel rejected.

After the vote, the opposition said its own unofficial count showed it had won. It said the commission’s tallies weren’t verified. It said more people voted in some areas than appeared on the roll and that it couldn’t access a fifth of the result forms that were supposed to be displayed outside the 10,985 polling stations. Chigumba dismissed suggestions that the results could be fixed.

3. What did election observers say?

The Zimbabwe Election Support Network, a local association of 34 civil rights and religious organizations that deployed about 6,500 monitors, found that the ruling party used state resources to campaign, employed food aid to entice people to vote for it, and enjoyed more favorable media coverage than the opposition.

It also said the final voters’ roll was released too late to allow sufficient time to analyze it. Western observers were equally critical, with European Union monitors saying there wasn’t a “level playing field.” The International Republican Institute and the National Democratic Institute from the U.S. said improvements in the political environment probably weren’t enough to convince voters they could oppose the ruling party without fear of retribution.

The election won praise in preliminary assessments by observers from the African Union and the Southern African Development Community — groups that seldom criticize their member states.

4. What happens now?

Chamisa says the opposition will use all legal and constitutional means to overturn what it sees as a stolen election. While past attempts to have disputed results overturned have failed, the Constitutional Court has ruled against the government on several occasions.

Mnangagwa has called on Chamisa to work with him to promote peace and unity. While the time for politicking is over, he says, the country is a democracy and anyone has the right to challenge the election results in court.

5. What challenges does a new government face?

The new administration will face a mammoth task resuscitating a dysfunctional economy. In 2000, Mugabe’s government authorized the often-violent seizure of about 4,500 mostly white-owned commercial farms to redistribute to black citizens in a land-reform program that resulted in a collapse of agricultural output.

Mass unemployment, emigration and hyperinflation followed. A cash crisis limits withdrawals from banks and the government’s ability to pay state workers on time.

While it was hoped that the conclusion of the electoral process would unlock pent-up investment demand in agriculture and mining, the disputed outcome and ensuing violence risks derailing or delaying a recovery.

The country was once known as an agricultural powerhouse, has the world’s biggest platinum reserves after South Africa and also has deposits of gold, coal and iron ore.

6. What did the ruling party campaign on?

Zanu-PF says it wants to attract $5 billion a year in foreign direct investment; last year Zimbabwe secured $289 million, according to the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development.

The ruling party has promised to respect property rights and maintain a stable and predictable business environment, though it also intends ensuring that the retail industry is reserved for indigenous people and forcing mineral producers to process part of their output within the country to create jobs. Its other pledges include ensuring the judiciary is transparent and independent and delivering 1.5 million homes over the next five years to address housing shortages.-Bloomberg

MRP Fights In Chamisa’s Corner

By Paul Nyathi| Mthwakazi Republic Party has rallied behind opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa’s rejection of the results of the just-ended harmonised elections, saying there was massive evidence to prove that the polls were rigged in favour of Zanu PF.

MRP president Mqondisi Moyo told Southern Eye that his party noted several disparities, including alleged tampering with presidential results.

“In Matobo North constituency, where I was contesting, I witnessed that in ward 16, Zanu PF imported a number of people from a farm in ward 23 and voted. The figures announced by Zimbabwe Election Commission showed a lot of disparities from the voters’ roll. MDC is correct to say elections were rigged. Why the delay that took place in the announcement of the results?” Moyo asked.

He also claimed that there were a number of factors which contributed to their loss, among them the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec)’s lack of transparency and questionable bias in favour of Zanu PF and unfair coverage by the media.

He said Zanu PF-aligned war veterans and traditional leaders were still holding the electorate to ransom.

Moyo said Zanu PF’s use of government resources to buy votes also contributed and influenced the voting pattern as people ended up voting for food, instead of their future.

Moyo also said ballot papers were too dark, resulting in their party logo not being visible.

Zanu PF won 145 parliamentary seats, while MDC Alliance won 63 as National Patriotic Front and an independent candidate shared one seat apiece.-Newsday

War Veterans Declare Mugabe Judas Iscariot And A Sellout

By Paul Nyathi| War veterans in Bulawayo yesterday slammed former President Robert Mugabe for being a sell out after aligning with the MDC Alliance in the harmonised elections.

Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association (ZNLWVA) Bulawayo province treasurer Lazarus Nyoni compared Mugabe to the biblical Judas Iscariot for going to bed with the opposition.

Nyoni was addressing mourners during the burial of liberation war heroine Ketty Dube at the Provincial Heroes’ Acre in Nkulumane, Bulawayo.

Mugabe on Sunday last week said he would vote for the opposition MDC Alliance in the just ended harmonised elections.

“The highest level of deception is when a once respected liberation war fighter comes out and announces that he is voting for the MDC Alliance, the same party he used to chant slogans against.

“Our own people used to hear stories of Judas Iscariot’s betrayal and they thought it’s a fairy tale but just some hours before voting they saw a carbon copy of Iscariot,’’ he said.

Nyoni said Mugabe spent decades denouncing the MDC but in a split second they have become strange bed fellows.

The war veterans warned the youths against following the footsteps of “such sellouts’’ just because of money.- State Media

Police Hunt For Biti And Komichi As 27 MDC Supporters Appear In Court

Tendai Biti

By Paul Nyathi|Police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of nine suspects including MDC Alliance leaders Tendai Biti and Morgen Komichi who they claim incited violence that rocked Harare last Wednesday.

In a statement issued on Monday, a spokesperson for the CID, Detective Assistant Inspector Portia Chinho said the nine suspects, who also include the party’s youth leader Happymore Chidziva, Jim Kunaka, Paddington Japajapa, Mafaiti Mubaiwa, Jeff Tafadzwa Chaitezvi, Lovejoy Chitengu and Chamunorwa Madya, would face charges under the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act for allegedly participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence.

“They are wanted by the Criminal Investigations Department for Contravening Section 37 of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act, Chapter 9:23,” said Det Asst Insp Chinho.

“That is “Participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breaches of the peace or bigotry.

“We are appealing to members of the public who may have information that may lead to the arrest of the following to contact Criminal Investigations Department Law and Order Harare on 0242- 779214 or their nearest police station”.

Meanwhile, 27 other MDC supporters who were arrested last week appeared in court on Monday.

According to the State, on August 1 at about 1200hrs, the 27 accused persons were part of a group that held an illegal demonstration mobilised by the Movement for Democratic Change-Alliance against the alleged delay by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission to announce the July 30 presidential election results.

According to the court papers, the suspects, together with about 4 000 others still at large, marched along Rezende Street and Bank Street in Harare Central Business District.

On arrival at the Market Square Police Base, the accused threatened to assault police officers.

They went to corner Rezende Street and Bank Street in Harare where they pulled down a portrait of President Emmerson Mnangagwa, before burning it.

They then allegedly proceeded to KFC food outlet where they stoned the shop, before proceeding to Pizza Inn where they did the same.

The accused also allegedly stoned the Bakers Inn outlet along First street.

A team of police reaction unit intercepted the accused, who ran away along Nelson Mandela.

The court further alleges that the suspects ran amok in Harare’s city centre destroying property, torching vehicles, looting and robbing vendors and pedestrians.

According to the court, six people who were part of the demonstrations were shot dead by soldiers and their deaths are being blamed on the accused persons.

The opposition supporters also tried to storm the National Results Centre at the Harare International Conference Centre.

They also burnt several cars at the ruling party’s provincial headquarters.

Mnangagwa Says He Will Seek Another Term In 2023

Emmerson Mnangagwa

By Paul Nyathi| President elect Emmerson Mnangagwa has hinted that he will seek re-election for another term in office when he completes his first five year term in 2023.

Speaking in an interview with the BBC after the disputed elections held on the 30th of July where he was declared winner, Mnangagwa said he would respect the Constitution on Presidential term limits saying he does not wish to extend his Presidency beyond two terms of five years each provided for by the Constitution.

“Perfectly and I always say that I will obey the spirit of the Constitution to the letter. If I am elected for a second term, I will do my second term but I cannot go beyond that,” he said.

According to the Constitution which was adopted in 2013 the presidential terms are limited to a maximum of two five year terms.

Mnangagwa first ascended to the helm of the country’s presidency in November 2017 following the forced resignation of former President Robert Mugabe in what analysts described as one of Africa’s historic “soft coups”.

Mnangagwa served eight months of Mugabe’s remaining term which did not constitute a term of office for him.

“Government Remorseful That Force Was Used On Civilians”: Foreign Affairs Minister SB Moyo

Sibusiso Moyo

By Own Correspondent|Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Retired Major General Sibusiso Moyo has revealed that government regretted the use of force on citizens by soldiers last week which resulted in 6 deaths and injured several others in Harare during protests for presidential election results.

Soldiers opened live ammunition at civilians killing an aunt to tourism minister Prisca Mupfumira, Sylvia Maphosa and 5 others.

Briefing foreign ambassadors at a post election meeting in Harare, Minister Moyo said government was remorseful of the post election deaths of citizens denying that soldiers are going around beating up people as purported by sections of the media.

Said Minister Moyo:

“We as government are deeply remorseful that force was used which resulted in the loss of 6 lives and injury to others.

I now want to address the issues of alleged beatings and abductions of people by soldiers coming out in certain sections of the media.

We have heard that soldiers are beating up people in Chitungwiza and Kuwadzana amonth other areas. We have fully investigated this.

The head of Chitungwiza Hospital has informed us that no one has presented themselves with such a case.

It only happened during the day of the violence that 14 people who were victims of the protest visited the hospital for assistance but they were never detained.”

Soldier Living In Fear Over Night Attacks

By Own Correspondent| A Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF) employee from Zinyanga village under Chief Seke Malvern Warira and his family are living in fear following the stoning of his house by unknown assailants every night since Friday last week.

Narrating his ordeal to the national broadcaster, Malvern Warirai said he believed the attacks targeting him were influenced by last week’s events where soldiers opened fire at civilians killing 6 people following protests over the release of presidential election results.

He said while no major damages had been recorded to date, he worried for the safity of his family.

Warirai said he suspects that the attacks are politically motivated and bent on seeking revenge against members of the security forces following the violent disturbances that happened last week in Harare and resulted in the death of 6 people and injury of 14 others.

Said Warirai:

“The events of the last four days have left my family dumbfounded and in great fear.

I don’t know what action these people will be taking next, so I am considering to relocate my family up to a time their security can be guaranteed.”

Warirai has since reported the attacks to the police and the case is under investigation.zbc

Malema Attacks Chamisa

State Media – South African opposition Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Mr Julius Malema has said the MDC Alliance must stop using rallies as a measure of success as that demonstrates political immaturity.

Commenting on Zimbabwe’s recent elections in one of South Africa’s television stations, Mr Malema said the use of rally attendance in the run up to polls to dispute their outcome does not show political maturity.
“I had a problem when the MDC Alliance said they were not accepting elections which were not pronouncing them winners. Even before the elections and they say look at our rallies. So if we use rallies to measure success in terms of elections, then why go to elections? Then let’s just look at rallies and decide. EFF rallies are always big, but we are not in government. It cannot be a measure. We must be democratic people,” said Mr Malema.

He said leaders must demonstrate maturity and dignity and set an example for their followers.

“We must be so dignified, even in defeat. What makes you a statesman is the ability to accept defeat, even if you have your doubts. Just say it’s ok. Chamisa has done very well to put the Zanu-PF presidential candidate at 50,8 percent,” said Mr Malema.

He encouraged political parties to learn to accept democratic outcomes even if they are not in their favour.

Mr Malema said violence had no space in African politics as it had proven to escalate matters, and less of a solution.

“You cannot anticipate results. It is unacceptable. Let us learn to accept democratic outcomes. Violence in Africa can never be a solution,” he said.
Mr Malema hailed Zimbabweans for conducting free and fair elections which he earlier referred to as an essential part of democracy.

“Zimbabwean elections were smooth, peaceful and democratic. The opposition made victory pronouncements before and after, in turn inciting violence by only accepting a result which favoured them,” he said

State Media Says Biti And Komichi Wanted By Police

State Media: Police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of nine suspects including MDC Alliance leaders Mr Tendai Biti and Morgen Komichi who allegedly incited violence that rocked Harare last Wednesday following the party’s loss to Zanu-PF.

The MDC Alliance has rejected the election results in which President Mnangagwa beat Mr Nelson Chamisa after garnering 50,8 percent against the coalition leader’s 44,3 percent.
The ruling Zanu-PF won 145 National Assembly seats against the MDC Alliance’s 63 seats.
NPF got one and the other was grabbed by Mr Temba Mliswa, who ran as an independent candidate for Norton.

In a statement yesterday, a spokesperson for the CID, Detective Assistant Inspector Portia Chinho said the nine suspects, who also include the party’s youth leader Happymore Chidziva, Jim Kunaka, Paddington Japajapa, Mafaiti Mubaiwa, Jeff Tafadzwa Chaitezvi, Lovejoy Chitengu and Chamunorwa Madya, would face charges under the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act for allegedly participating in a gathering with intent to promote public violence.

The opposition supporters also tried to storm the National Results Centre at the Harare International Conference Centre.

They also burnt several cars at the ruling party’s provincial headquarters.
Following the violence, President-elect Mnangagwa said the party should be held accountable for the violence.

He also said the MDC Alliance leadership should also be held responsible for any loss of life or property that could have happened.

African National Congress (ANC) national executive committee member and the party’s former spokesperson Mr Zizi Kodwa said MDC-Alliance leader Mr Chamisa must be held accountable for the violence after he issued inflammatory and reckless statements.

Mr Chamisa and some senior members of the MDC-Alliance are on record threatening post-election violence if not declared the winners by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).
Posted Mr Kodwa on his Twitter handle: “Nelson Chamisa of MDC must be held accountable for inflammatory and reckless statements which has now led to eruption of violent protests in Harare.”

A report recently released by the Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) ranked the MDC-T as the most violent party for the month of June after it recorded 16 cases of intra-party violence against Zanu-PF’s three incidents.

Despite Mr Chamisa and Mr Biti rejecting the poll outcome, a top MDC Alliance official and founding member of the MDC-T, Mr Eddie Cross, has dismissed claims that Zanu-PF rigged the harmonised elections.

Mr Cross also said any legal challenge to President-elect Mnangagwa’s victory would be short-lived because the President wanted to win a free and fair election to break with the controversies that dogged the Mr Robert Mugabe era.

Hwindi Found Dead

A 45-YEAR-OLD tout from Bulawayo was found dead in a storm drain in a suspected murder case, police have confirmed.

The body of Marizoni Moyo (45) of Pumula South was discovered by passersby last Wednesday morning.

The now deceased left a local sports bar at around 11PM last Tuesday in the company of his two friends whom he had been drinking with and was found dead the following day.

Bulawayo Metropolitan Province police spokesperson Chief Inspector Precious Simango said the now deceased was found dead in a drain.

She said two suspects who are his friends had been arrested and were assisting police with investigations.

“I can confirm a man was found dead in a storm drain in Pumula South on Wednesday morning. From around 9PM, the now deceased was spotted drinking beer at a bar in Pumula South with his two friends and the trio allegedly left the bar at around 11PM,” said Chief Insp Simango.

“The following morning, passers-by discovered the body in a drain near the road. The body was seriously bruised and we suspect he was killed. It was taken to the United Bulawayo Hospitals for post-mortem.
“Police has since arrested his two friends in connection with the crime. The pair is helping us with investigations.”

In May, an unidentified male body was also found in a storm drain near Bob’s Garage along the Bulawayo-Gwanda Road. At that time, police said the deceased had an open wound on the chin. Chief Insp Simango said they were worried about an upsurge in violent crimes.

“This kind of behaviour by members of the public is worrisome. Surely people have lost morals and no longer respect and value life.

“Police are worried about such disturbing behaviour. We will, however, continue to work tirelessly to ensure such culprits are all brought to book,” she said.

IS HE TELLING THE TRUTH? – SB Moyo Says Army Not Assaulting Anyone

The Zimbabwe Defence Forces is a well trained and disciplined force, and reports on social media linking it to assaults and abductions of innocent civilians in high density suburbs are false and meant to misinform the public, a Cabinet Minister has said.

Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister, Dr Sibusiso Moyo said, Government was willing to deal with cases backed by evidence in which a soldier would have over-stepped his or her mandate of helping the police maintain law and order.
Dr Moyo said this in Harare yesterday while addressing ambassadors and international organisations accredited to Zimbabwe on the political situation in the country.

He said there had been reports of alleged abductions, beatings and raping of people by members of the security forces in response to a violent protest by MDC Alliance, which left a trail of destruction of property and claimed six lives on Wednesday last week.

“We have heard that soldiers have beaten up people in Chitungwiza, Kuwadzana and Dzivarasekwa areas,” said Dr Moyo. “We have fully investigated this and the head of Chitungwiza hospital has informed us that there were never any people who were formally detained in hospital.

“In fact, it only happened on the day of the violence on August 1 where 14 people who were also victims of the protest came in but for minor issues and went back. They were never detained.

“In Kuwadzana and Dzivarasekwa, Government is not aware of any beatings or abductions so far as has been reported. All what we are realising is that there is a lot of misinformation that is coming out from social media. It is not only affecting all of us here, but it is affecting certain perceptions, which are developing in certain areas.

“Let me assure you that the military of this country is generally a well trained and very disciplined force, which has operated for a period of almost over three months from November to about January 2018. At one stage it took over the responsibility of policing, it is well experienced in dealing with people and it will not indulge in that.”
Dr Moyo said any person with evidence was free to come forth to show that there had been a soldier who acted outside the law.

“But in the event that there is a rowdy soldier who obviously may be indisciplined we are prepared, with relevant evidence, to take relevant steps,” he said.

“But what we are also witnessing is that there may be certain personalities who might be purporting to be soldiers and are not soldiers, that are going about imitating as if they are. This is what we are busy investigating.”

Dr Moyo said people ought to make a distinction of normal police operations of investigating the violent protests that the security forces might be undertaking.

“Yes, there may be certain security or police operations, which are underway as a result of the death of six people, those normal police operations do not normally end up meaning or being interpreted as some kind of atrocities being perpetrated,” he said.

“There may be some people who are being sought, who are directly responsible and have been identified for specific offences on the day in question.”

Dr Moyo paid tribute to countries and international organisations who deployed observers to observe the country’s harmonised elections, which saw Zanu-PF garnering two thirds majority in Parliament, with its candidate, President Mnangagwa, beating his closest rival, Mr Nelson Chamisa.

“Their presence and that of international non-governmental organisations observers gave us joy in that the presence of the international community gave substance to our claim that we have nothing to hide,” said Dr Moyo.

With the conclusion of electoral processes, said Dr Moyo, Government will continue to re-engage members of the international community as it sought to rebuild the nation.

“The revival of the economy is the priority as we seek inclusive growth, which manifest in better livelihoods and better service delivery,” he said. “This is a peaceful country in which Foreign Direct Investment and foreign persons are safe.”

The dean of African diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe and Democratic Republic of Congo Ambassador Dr Mwawapanga Mwanananga requested that the diplomatic community be afforded an opportunity to congratulate President Mnangagwa.

“We as the diplomatic corps, we request that we be given an opportunity to congratulate the President,” he said. “He has been congratulated by other organisations, and we saw him receiving foreign observers, but we are here and we represent our Heads of State, if we can be allowed to congratulate him.

“We know running a State is not like running a tuckshop and all Heads of State may not have the opportunity to congratulate him.”

Grace Mugabe Slapped With Lawsuit By Own Lawyer

Robert Mugabe and wife Grace
Former First Lady Grace Mugabe has been sued by lawyers who represented her in several court cases involving a $1,2 million diamond ring deal after she failed to pay them legal fees amounting to $278 000.

Manase and Manase Legal Practitioners acted for Mrs Mugabe in several court cases linked to the diamond ring deal that later turned sour.
Mrs Mugabe claimed to have paid $1,2 million to Lebanese businessman Mr Jamal Ahmed for the purchase of a diamond ring, but the deal turned sour. In a bid to recover the money, Mrs Mugabe allegedly “grabbed” three properties belonging to Mr Ahmed.

Guards were unlawfully deployed at Number 409 Harare Drive, Pomona, Number 18 Cambridge Road Road, Avondale and Number 75 King George, Avondale, being the properties owned by Mr Ahmed.

The actions sparked legal battles that dragged for months. In the process, Manase and Manase represented Mrs Mugabe, but she did not pay for the services. The law firm has taken Mrs Mugabe and her son Russel Goreraza to the High Court claiming legal fees amounting to $278 304,05.
Manase and Manase Legal Practitioners is also claiming interest which will be calculated at the rate of 10 percent per annum. The law firm is also seeking an order for costs of the suit on a punitive scale.

According to the plaintiff’s declaration, Mrs Mugabe and Goreraza approached the lawyers in December 2016 seeking legal services in respect of a number of cases linked to the diamond ring saga.

They also wanted to be legally represented in a urgent chamber application that was before the High Court under case number HC 12497/16.

“In addition to that, the plaintiff continued to represent the plaintiff in all matters that arose as a result of the aforementioned case,” reads the declaration.

“The defendants were represented by the plaintiff in the Supreme Court in case number 480/17, which was referred back to the High Court and is still pending before the Honourable Court.”

Legal services rendered included attending to all litigation procedures and hearings, the drafting of court processes, consultations, round table meetings and various legal documents.

The services were rendered for a period stretching to two years.
“The plaintiff carried out its obligations by rendering such legal services with the level of professionalism envisaged in the Legal Practitioner Act (Chapter 27:07) and the Law Society of Zimbabwe by laws,” reads the declaration.

“The plaintiff carried out its services for a period extending over two years, but to date the defendants have not paid the plaintiff’s fees for the services rendered in the above mentioned cases.”
The law firm’s efforts to recover the debt hit a snag, resulting in the dispute spilling into the High Court.

“Despite demand from the plaintiff, the defendants have refused and or neglected to pay the legal fees owing to the firm,” reads the papers.

“The plaintiff has been left with no option but to approach this Honourable Court seeking that the defendants pay the sum of $278 304,05, being legal fees due and payable by the defendants to the plaintiff.”

Mrs Mugabe and Goreraza are yet to respond to the lawsuit.- state media

“ZEC’s Published Presidential Results Expose Serious Anomalies”: Chamisa

https://www.facebook.ZimEye/videos/1968443846550137
By Own Correspondent| The recently published presidential election results by the country’s elections body (ZEC) expose serious anomalies which confirm that MDC Alliance Presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa won the just ended harmonised polls, a top MDC Alliance official has claimed.

MDC Alliance Presidential Spokesperson Dr Nkululeko Sibanda revealed this while addressing the media at Morgan Tsvangirai House in the capital Harare Monday afternoon.

Said Sibanda:

“From the presidential election results that ZEC released starting Sunday, it is clear just by looking at the data itself, it shows that there is glaring evidence where the data submitted is incoherent, the data shows that certain numbers for the presidency were inflated and this is so in particular constituencies, where the inflation is obvious and the deflation on our side.

When you look at the data it is clearly evident which areas they were doing this, where they obviously thought that they could succeed. If someone has not seen this evidence, then they are bound to think that the declaration is correct.”

MDC Says ZBC Highly Insensitive On Harare Shooting Deaths

MDC Media Statement|The people’s party of Excellence, MDC, dismisses with contempt the attempt by the public broadcaster, ZBC and Zanu PF to justify the killing of innocent civilians by apportioning blame on the MDC Alliance. Ironically, Mr Mnangagwa stated that he was setting up a comission to look at the shootings so why not wait for that to ascertain what occurred .

Such attempts are diabolical in nature and can not be excused at any level. It is a known fact that soldiers gunned down and killed seven and injured 13 unarmed civilians in the Central Business District of Harare.

It is a fact that soldiers have been terrorizing people ever since in the high density suburbs to stifle dissent.

It is a fact that the same Zanu PF government has killed to stay in power. Cases in point include the 2008 bloody run off period where over 500 people lost their lives. The Murambatsvina of 2005, violent farm invasions of 2000, Gukurahundi in the 1980s and the state of our economy presently, is testament to that.

No sugar coating of any nature can erase what happened in Zimbabwe on Tuesday and what continue to happen in Zimbabwe.

Zanu PF is a violent party that continues to use the state apparatus in its disposal to abuse the people of Zimbabwe.

While we do not condone the action taken by some of the demonstrators, we certainly take exceptions in the continued harassment of our staff members and visitors at The Morgan Tsvangirai House who were transacting party business at our office but today find themselves incarcerated.

We have always been provoked by this militant and violent party but we have maintained our peace.

We have staff members, politicians and ordinary people who have been arrested and imprisoned for crimes they did not commit.

The Glen View 27 for instance, three men remain behind bars yet they were nowhere close to the events that took place in Glen View in 2009.

Our late President Tsvangirai was charged with treason numerous times and acquitted each time because of these trumped up charges.

May the so called eye witness on ZBC produce evidence of beer coming out of our head office. If anything, such evidence must be used in the court of law and not in the public media. This in itself is inciting.

Such innuendos being exuded by the ZBC will not stop the MDC Alliance from pursuing legal means to reclaim our victory.

The people of Zimbabwe overwhelmingly voted for the people’s President Nelson Chamisa and the MDC alliance at all levels and we are not prepared to betray the people’s victory because of a small cabal that thinks it owns Zimbabwe.

There Are No Cracks In MDC Alliance, Says Mwonzora

Secretary General of the Movement for Democratic Change, Douglas Mwonzora has refuted claims that his party is sharply divided on the way forward after elections, saying his stance against former President Robert Mugabe should not be misinterpreted as a symptom of fissures as he has always opposed the nonagenarian since the late 80s.

In an interview with 263Chat, Mwonzora said as the Secretary General of the MDC-T, he is currently seized with petitions due to be filed in the courts between today and Thursday.

“That’s not true, that’s not true, and there are no cracks at all.

“I’m not interested in Mr Mugabe and that has been known for the past 25 years or so. I started opposing Zanu PF and Mugabe in 1988,” said Mwonzora.

Mugabe’s union with the MDC Alliance came under spotlight on the eve of the 30 July polls following former head of state decision to back Chamisa.

Mwonzora said the MDC is challenging the election outcome particularly on the popular vote which Chamisa alleges he defeated President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“I am personally handling about four election outcome petitions and I think that they are going well. I know the main matter we are about to complete the election petition. It may be filed sometime this week, we have up to Thursday to file,” he added.

Mwonzora identified Mutare West Constituency in Marange won by Zanu PF, as one of the examples the opposition seeks a redress saying data in their possessions indicate otherwise.

He added that the party is challenging ‘politicization of food aid, intimidation and violence’ that could have influenced the election outcome in favor of Zanu PF candidates.

Zimbabwe’s 30 July polls which was marred by violence post election day had been described as a critical test to measure the country’s preparedness to rejoin global networks like the Commonwealth.

NetOne CEO Sues Supa Mandiwanzira

In a dramatic turn of events in the raging NetOne saga, the NetOne CEO, Mr Lazarus Muchenje has filed an urgent High Court Chamber application seeking to sue Minister of ICT and Cyber Security Supa Mandiwanzira, six Board members, nine fired executives as well as the Office of the President and Cabinet representative, Chief Secretary to the President Dr Misheck Sibanda.

Through his lawyer Chipo Sachikonye of Dube, Manikai and Hwacha Associates, Lazarus Muchenje is urgently seeking relief in the form of a prohibitory interdict against Board Members that he recently fired in accordance with what he definitively says are proper company governance structures and procedures.

Muchenje argues that a meeting convened at a private residence and during the weekend on Saturday the 28th of July in Greendale where he was invited under the guise of a friendly discussion was illegally convened and all its resolutions must forthwith be declared a nullity.

The NetOne youthful Boss invokes provisions of the law governing the government owned mobile network provider saying the meeting was not only unlawfully convened, it had no notice or agenda blatantly violating NetOne corporate governance procedures and he will not be forced to rubber stamp some twisted political directive from Minister Supa Mandiwanzira.

“The law is clear: the failure to give adequate notice to ALL directors entitled to attend a Board of Directors meeting of a company renders the meeting irregular and all resolutions adopted thereat a nullity and of no force and effect,” he said.

In an unwavering threat to Minister Super Mandiwanzira, Muchenje says his lawyers are on standby to furnish the courts of law on precisely how the Minister has clearly breached the letter and spirit of the Zimbabwean Constitution and all its supporting legislation namely the Administrative Justice Act and most importantly the Public Entities Corporate Governance Act which was enacted to curb such corrupt tendencies from politicians.

Muchenje further notes that management and control of the company’s business are the prerogative the Chief Officer and in this case its Mr Lazarus Muchenje who wields this authority. – Technomag

More Arrests As State Security Intensifies Blitz On MDC Supporters

Paul Nyathi|ZIMBABWEAN authorities have intensified their crackdown on opposition political party supporters after arresting more people following protests staged in Harare after the announcement of results for the harmonised elections held last week.

Over the weekend, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers arrested three people namely Simbarashe Zvobgo, Trymore Mubaiwa and Searchmore Mutegude bringing the total number of people arrested since last week to 27.

25 people had initially been arrested on Thursday and charged with committing public violence as defined in section 36 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act and these include David Zvavamwe Shambare, Shadreck Mashayamombe, Tapiwa Joni, Ngonidzashe Makazhu, Michael Mheta, Simbarashe Mujeye, Judith Chacha, Lilian Mahosi, Anna Chezhira, Angeline Mukoki, Agatha Mubaiwa, Chancellor Nyamande, Livenice Kachana, Tichaona Daniel, Farai Nyamhunga, Mercy Mataramvura, Munyaradzi Chibanda, Samson Nerwande, Raymond Machakaire, Tapiwa Naume Khamu, Tendai Torerwa, Christopher Nikisi, Tonderai Chakona and Justin Mugashu.

Zvobgo, Mubaiwa and Mutegude appeared in court on Monday together with 24 others, where their lawyers applied for their release from custody on bail, which the National Prosecution Authority represented by Michael Reza opposed.

In their bail application, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights lawyers namely Gift Mtisi, Kossam Ncube, Lizwe Jamela and Denford Halimani and James Makiyi of Makiyi and Partners Legal Practitioners, who are representing the 27 people, denied that their clients committed the alleged offence.

The human rights lawyers told Harare Magistrate Nyasha Vhitorini that most of their clients were arrested at Morgan Tsvangirai House, where they had gone to surrender some election return materials and where they were waiting to receive their transport and food allowances after serving as election agents for the MDC Alliance party in Uzumba Maramba-Pfungwe constituency in Mashonaland East province during the just ended harmonised elections.

The ZLHR lawyers stated that their clients, who also include some MDC Alliance party employees, had sought refuge and locked themselves inside Morgan Tsvangirai House, from where they were arrested by ZRP officers, after some members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces began firing gunshots outside the opposition party’s headquarters.

MDC Supporters Exposed To Massive Military Brutality, MDC Statement

Media Statement|The people of Zimbabwe on Monday last week resoundingly voted for Change that delivers as represented by President Nelson Chamisa and the MDC Alliance.

While the nation awaited celebrations of this victory, ZEC in collusion with Zanu PF stole the people’s vote by cooking and concocting poisonous results that left the nation mourning.

Further to that, Munangagwa unleashed soldiers who fired live ammunition leaving seven people dead and 13 others hospitalized.

They have not stopped at that. Over 2 500 soldiers were deployed in all the high density suburbs in Harare including Epworth, Chitungwiza, Glen View and Dzivarasekwa who have been thrashing people every night.

State security operatives have been deployed countrywide to employ fear in the people and to stifle dissent.

Zanu PF knows that it overwhelmingly lost this election. They know the people of Zimbabwe have had enough of their failed, violent and corrupt governance system. The people are ready for the new, transformed Zimbabwe where opportunity to prosper abounds.

The people of Zimbabwe are ready for Change that delivers. A state that is accountable to its people, that respects citizen rights and is constitutional in all its execution.

Zimbabwe is ready for a consensual state where the people have a say on how they are governed. A state that is united to a national vision, not a divided, wounded nation that Zanu PF has left us to inherit.

The people’s President, Advocate Chamisa won this election and will ensure that the MDC Alliance forms the next government that is able to deliver and meet the needs and aspirations of the people.

Accept Defeat, Zanu PF MP Tells Opposition

Terrence Mawawa

Incoming Zanu PF MP for Gutu Central,Yeukai Simbanegavi has implored the MDC Alliance to concede defeat and wait for the 2023 polls.

The MDC Alliance is disputing the results of the July 30 polls arguing that the whole process has been tampered with – to tilt the outcome in favour of the ruling party.

In her Facebook message Simbanegavi said:I hope MDC MPs will be loyal to my homeboy
Nelson and stay at home with him ,hapana anofanira
kuenda kuparliament,so that we can hold by-elections.”

Why Opposition Failed To Win Elections

Terrence Mawawa

The opposition failed to make inroads into Zanu PF strongholds and lost the July 30 polls, National People’s Party Spokesperson Jeffryson Chitando said at the weekend.

Below is Chitando’s assertion:
When I visited Masvingo ZEC offices in May I got the
following figures of registered voters (rounded off to
the nearest thousands):
1)Masvingo 115 000
2)Chiredzi 110 000
3)Gutu 85 000
4)Zaka 75 000
5) Mwenezi 67 000
6)Bikita 67 000
7)Chivi 63 000
At that time Chiredzi North had 44 000 registered
voters.I posted an article indicating that Chiredzi North would
wipe out the opposition dominance in Gutu and Masvingo
Districts. I also pointed out Mwenezi and Chivi
would determine the Presidential election winner in Masvingo
Province.

I suggested that any opposition Presidential
candidate who wanted to win must literally camp in
Chiredzi,Mwenezi and Chivi .I also pointed out that
having rallies in Masvingo Urban,Chiredzi
Urban,Bikita and Zaka was good but that would not neutralise
Zanu PF’ s dominance.

I also suggested that having rallies in Chilonga,Chikom
bezi,Malipati,Gezani,Chomuruvati,Chikofa,Mara
nda,Matibi, and any other venues in highly populated
Chiredzi North would be a political advantage to the opposition.

Ironically Mnangagwa Will Never Deliver A Bullet Train

By Paul Nyathi|A National Railways of Zimbabwe wagon is captured derailing behind a President Emmerson Mnangagwa campaign billboard promising that his government will deliver latest railway transportation.

Critics say the derailment is an indication that Mnangagwa will never be able to deliver world class train services like bullet trains that were promised by opposition presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa.

ZimEye.com was not able to determine where the picture was captured.

Highlanders Dynamos Tie Postponed Again

By Paul Nyathi|The much awaited Battle of Zimbabwe Castle Premier Soccer League between the country’s two big soccer clubs Highlanders and Dynamos has been postponed once again.

Releasing this weekend’s fixtures the Premier Soccer League indicated in its statement that the tie set for Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo has been postponed without giving reason why the country’s biggest soccer encounter is being postponed.

The match was called off last week together with all other PSL matches with the PSL claiming that the political situation in the country was still too tense to bring thousands of people together.

All the other ties that were postponed last week have been rescheduled for this weekend.

African Player Suffers Racial Abuse In China

Terrence Mawawa

Former Newcastle and Chelsea striker Demba Ba suffered racial abuse during a Chinese Super League game.

According to his Shanghai Shenhua coach Wu Jingui, an opponent racially insulted the 33-year-old Senegalese star during an argument.

“I learned that a Yatai player used insulting language toward him [Ba],” said Wu.

“Around the world, it has been stressed that there should be no insulting speech towards black athletes.

“The Chinese Super League has players of many different skin colours. We should respect our opponents, and there should be no discrimination.”

Ba’s former Turkish side Besiktas tweeted in support of the player saying: “#NoToRacism, You’re not alone “

Billiat Snatches Man Of The Match Award

Terrence Mawawa

Kaizer Chiefs winger Khama Billiat was named the Man of the match in the season opener against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

The game ended in a 1-1 draw with Ramahlwe Mphahlele opening the scoring on the 8th minute before Ricardo Nascimento converted a penalty to equalise for the home team.

The encounter was Khama’s first league game in Chiefs colours. The Zimbabwe international joined the Soweto Giants in July after his contract with Sundowns expired.

On his thoughts about the game, Billiat said: “It was a tough match, and I think we did a lot of things that we wanted to do. There is still room for improvement.

“We created not as many chances as we wanted to, but there are moments that we should have converted them. It’s one of those things, it’s a learning curve.”

However, his former coach Pisto Mosimane was not happy with how the panel selected the most outstanding player.

When asked why he questioned who received the award, Pitso emotionally asked back saying: “What did he do.”

MDC Alliance Officials Go Into Hiding

MDC Alliance in deep trouble?

Terrence Mawawa

Several MDC Alliance officials have gone into hiding following alleged death threats from state security agents.

“MDC Alliance Agents in Muzarabani South have gone into hiding since they are being haunted by ZANU PF top officials day and night.

These officials are knocking at the doors of all councillors and MDC Alliance candidates.

Chief Chiweshe and his kraal heads have declared that all the MDC representatives must be eliminated.

We urgently need assistance before the situation gets worse,” the party said In a statement.

MDC Alliance Principals Clash Over Mugabe Role- State Media

– What is Mugabe’s role(real or perceived), Honest?

– Does Mugabe now have a role in the MDC Alliance? How does a voter from nowhere suddenly obtain a job role with the voted?

– How does the voted for (Chamisa) become named after a mere voter, Mugabe?

– What really did Mwonzora say of Mugabe, did he even mention Chamisa’s name?

By Terrence Mawawa| A state run paper has alleged that cracks have emerged in the MDC-Alliance barely three days after President-elect Emmerson Mnangagwa’ s controversial win in the July 30 harmonised elections.

The paper claimed that there are serious clashes over former President Robert Mugabe’ s role in the coalition.

The paper has further claimed that officials in the MDC-Alliance are baying for coalition leader Nelson Chamisa’s head, blaming him for the party’s embarrassing loss reminiscent of 2013 when he was the organising secretary.

“My opposition to Mugabe is known in the party. I did not like Mugabe. I have opposed working with him. I think Mugabe is a kiss of death. I still maintain that,” MDC Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora said in an interview with the state run publication.

Chivhanga was shocked to see bullet casings at his house in Masvingo and he reported the matter to the police.Chivanga lost to Ephraim Gwanongodza of Zanu PF.

Below are Chivanga’ s tweets:
“My name is Henry Chivhanga, and I was the MDC Alliance candidate for Chivi Central Constituency. My wife found bullet casings outside our door. Maybe this was a warning.”

“We made a police report. Ref 8715/18. Thank you to all who are praying for our safety. In God we put our hope and trust. We go to sleep tonight hoping that whoever planted the bullet casings will not come back to ‘finish’ what he/she started. Pray for Zimbabwe.”

Biti’s Boys Involved In Freak Accident With Unknown Assailants

Biti’s damaged car

By Own Correspondent| As the wave of repression on opposition political party supporters continues following the announcement of election results (Friday), Alliance partner, Tendai Biti’s security personnel escaped a freak accident by a whisker after four cars gave chase to one of their vehicles in Greendale Harare on Sunday.

One of Biti’s boys told ZimEye that he believes that the men who were on their trail and wanted to abduct them are from the military.

According to the source, the cars which trailed them included a black toyota blade, a silver benz, white toyota camry and toyota hilux.

Below is one of the cars which he alleged was trailing them:

Narrating what happened on the day, Biti’s boys drove one of Biti’s cars to Greendale intending to park the vehicle.

They however noticed that two cars were following them and they went and parked the car along the road and one of them disembarked. The cars stopped where they had previously parked the vehicle and started asking questions to people who were nearby.

One of the boys who had disembarked noticed that the net was closing in on him and he immediately called his colleague who was parked nearby to pick him up on the main road. He started running towards the main road and realised that about 4 cars were now on his trail.

Fortunately, the colleague driving the car arrived since he was nearby and picked him up before the four cars intensified their chase. One of the cars aimed at the driver of the car who swerved and the car only managed to hit the right side of the car.

Said the source:

“My thinking is that they thought that Biti was in the car but he was not. I thought that they wanted to abduct us.”

He revealed that opposition supporters were now living in fear since they were being targeted by unknown assailants.

The development comes in the wake of revelations that opposition activists in Zimbabwe are having a torrid time at the hands of the military since the announcement of presidential election results which saw President Emmerson Mnangagwa garner 50.8 percent vote against arch rival MDC Alliance’s Nelson Chamisa who got 44.3 percent.

Human rights groups have however raised the flag reporting that dozens of abductions, beatings and rapes targeting opposition political party supporters have surfaced instilling fear and reminding citizens of the 2008 era under the leadership of former president Robert Mugabe.

Six Arrested Over President Assassination Bid

Six people have been arrested after Saturday’s apparent assassination attempt on President Nicolas Maduro in the Venezuelan capital of Caracas, the nation’s interior minister said on national TV.

Maduro survived the assault after several drones armed with explosives flew toward him during a speech at a military parade, an attack he blamed on far-right elements and Colombia’s outgoing president, Juan Manuel Santos.

“Those arrested are accused of “terrorism and assassination,” Interior Minister Nestor Reverol said Sunday.

Reverol said one of the detained had an outstanding arrest warrant for his alleged role in the August 2017 attack on a military base in Valencia.

Another of the detained people was previously arrested during the 2014 anti-government protests. Reverol said he doesn’t rule out further arrests.

Attackers used two DJI M600 drones that each carried 1 kilogram of C-4 explosive, Reverol said.

The munitions could cause damage in a radius of 50 meters, and intelligence services were able to identify the nearby streets that were used for launching the drones from a distance, he said.

One of the drones flew over the presidential stage with the intention of being detonated by the attackers, but he said the authorities were able to cause it to lose control and detonate outside the area the attackers targeted.

Reverol said the second drone lost control and fell into an apartment building, where it exploded on the first floor.

The incident took place as Maduro was speaking at a commemoration of the 81st anniversary of the Venezuelan national guard that featured a military parade.

Live footage of the event showed him suddenly looking up startled midspeech, while beside him his wife, Cilia Flores, winced after a loud bang and dozens of soldiers were seen scattering. Seven members of the national guard were hurt during the attack.

Venezuela’s attorney general, Tarek William Saab, said he had ordered an investigation into the incident, assigning three prosecutors to the investigation.

Maduro appeared on national TV a couple of hours later, when he spoke about the investigation and arrests.

He said the Venezuelan political far right in collaboration with the Colombian far right and Colombian President Santos were behind the attack. He also blamed Venezuelans living in the United States.

“The preliminary investigation indicates that many of those responsible for the attack, the financiers and planners, live in the United States in the state of Florida,” Maduro said.

“I hope the Trump administration is willing to fight terrorist groups that commit attacks in peaceful countries in our continent, in this case Venezuela.”

The Venezuelan government has long blamed Colombia for plotting overthrows, and far-right elements in Bogota and Miami for attempting to undercut Maduro. Ivan Duque takes over as the Colombian President this week.

ZBC News Jingle Drummer Buried

Popular traditional drummer Douglas Vambe who died at Parirenyatwa Hospital on Wednesday last week was buried at his home in Magunje area in Uzumba yesterday.

It was an emotional send off for Vambe as people from all walks of life converged at the Vambe homestead in Uzumba to bid farewell to the ambassador of Jerusarema-Mbende dance.

The Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry Dr Thokozile Chitepo who worked with Vambe when she was in the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) board and Zanu PF politburo member Dr Sydney Sekeramayi described Vambe as a hero in the arts industry who gave the Zimbabwean people their cultural identity.

MDC Alliance Takes Election Grievances For 20 Constituencies To Electoral Court

By Own Correspondent| The MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa has challenged the election results in 20 constituencies at the Electoral Court revealing that the party was in the process of compiling evidence to lodge complaints in more constituencies.

MDC Alliance chairperson Morgan Komich said while the Alliance was still analysing the results for other constituencies, his party had rejected the results for the presidential election on the basis that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) had colluded with Zanu-PF to rig the elections.

Said Komichi:

“We have successfully filed with the Electoral Court to challenge results in 20 constituencies, and we are still compiling evidence in some others.

President Chamisa had a meeting with all parliamentary candidates on Saturday. The meeting was to learn of the candidates’ experiences in the just-ended polls.

The meeting also presented an opportunity for the candidates to bring forward some of the irregular practices they observed as part of our evidence building process.

We have all the evidence and we will challenge many constituencies as well, apart from the presidential polls.”

16 Top Cops Suspended For Sympathising With Opposition Protestors

By Own Correspondent| Over 15 senior cops from Mbare police station were reportedly suspended for sympathising with opposition protestors instead of dispersing them during last Wednesday’s demonstrations which later turned violent resulting in 6 deaths.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police allegedly suspended 16 top police officers from Mbare Police Station, a development which the national police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba could neither confirm nor deny.

Said Charamba:

“I am not confirming or denying that. I need to check with those responsible so that I can give you a true response.”

However, sources privy to the developments told a local publication that the army was called to quell the protests after it emerged that the deployed police officers were not “dealing with protestors adequately.”

Said the source:

“The Commissioner-General (Godwin Matanga) was not happy with the way the officers responded to the demonstration, particularly those who were captured on camera as gesturing to the protesters to jump onto a police vehicle.

The top commanders feel like the officers were in support of the demonstrators, instead of dispersing them.”-Newsday

“Mnangagwa Will Only Rule In Mashonaland” Says Mthwakazi Party

Media Statement|MLO would like to put it categorically clear that the newly elected Zimbabwe’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rule will stretch as far as Mashonaland boundaries. And that this side of the Jameson Line (border between Matabeleland and Zimbabwe), we do not take him as our president as he views us as cockroaches and publicly refused to withdraw this statement or apologise for Matabeleland genocide.

We only recognise him as the president of one of our neighbouring countries (Zimbabwe) who shot to presidency through the barrel of the gun and later rigged elections to fraudulently achieve political legitimacy.

According to Zimbabwe Electoral Commission official report Matabeleland registered the lowest number of voters in 2018 elections. In Matabeleland South, only 239 367 registered, Bulawayo, the capital city of Matabeleland, only 243 146 registered and in Matabeleland North, 319 549 voters were registered. That means less than 900 000 people registered in Matabeleland at large. This apathy shows without any aota of doubt that people of Matabeleland boycotted Zimbabwe elections in their large numbers. The majority of the people who voted are the shona deployees of the 1979 Grand Plan that were strategically settled in Matabeleland from Mashonaland by the shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe.

The small number of votes that were cast by a few Matebeles constitute a protest vote that went to the opposition. Evidently, Zanupf managed to get a few votes from its resettlements like UMguza and a few other areas. Otherwise 99% of its votes came from Mashonaland.

A lot of lies were said about the low voter registration in Matabeleland except the truth. The truth being that; Matabele masses have given up on the Zimbabwe untrustworthy electoral system, tribalistic and oppressive supremacist system.

Through this massive election boycott the people of Matabeleland have sent a strong message to the government of Zimbabwe and the world that they no longer want to be part of Zimbabwe.

They have rejected supremacism rule, they have rejected marginalisation, tribalism, domination, genocide, rape, economic mismanagement, corruption, military coups, vote rigging and all other political and social ills that Zimbabwe is associated with.

Under the direction and authority of Matebeleland Liberation Organisation Supreme Council, The President of M.L.O. Paul Siwela served the British government under the leadership of David Cameron and Zimbabwe government under the leadership of Robert Gabriel Mugabe with Notices of Demand for The Restoration of Matebeleland State on 5 December 2015 and 7 December 2015 respectively.

Both addressees acknowledged receipt of The Notices by signing for them. Surprisingly, the government of Zimbabwe deeps its head in the sand regarding this important issue.

World leaders, investors and the public in general is warned to take extreme caution against cutting deals with the government of Zimbabwe when they want to invest in Matabeleland territory. Anyone who ignores this warning either through ignorance or being deceived by the government of Zimbabwe risks losing their valuable investments.

Given the above we believe as MLO we have done our level best to let Britain and its proxy Zimbabwe know of our intentions to restore the statehood of Matabeleland. This we have done in most polite, diplomatic and peaceful manner. But it seems our good manners are mistaken for cowardice. Please take note that no one should blame us for whatever will happen in future , for we shall arrive unannounced and make the most frightening breaking news of all time. Watch this space!

Female Parliamentarian Tells Women To Be Second Wives And Stop Being Single Mothers

By Paul Nyathi|A Kenyan female parliamentatian Catherine Waruguru has stunned Kenyans after telling women to consider getting married as second wives to avoid being single mothers.

Speaking on KTN’s Morning Express, Waruguru told women they can only consider a man their husband when he is in their house.

“Somebody else’s husband is their husband within the confines of their homes. The moment you left your home, Mike Gitonga, you’re here as a servant who is serving KTN. You’re here because you’re serving Kenyans,” charged Ms Waruguru.

“Mzee ni wako kwa boma, akishatoka, you take care of yourself. And you choose what you want. And the constitution allows even president Uhuru Kenyatta and assented to the Marriage Bill (allowing polygamy).”

Ms Waruguru encouraged women to find husbands at all costs.

“I’d encourage majority of Kenyan women who are single and they’ve found a man who they think can be a good friend and a husband, moving forward, and they love their children. We do not have to raise our children as single mothers,” said the woman rep.

“And especially our boys… I passionately feel for the boy child. Not only through marriages, we need to take this conversation further. That our children, whether boys or girls, they need people to look up to as fathers and if there no fathers we need to go farther to see whether we can get uncles, and mentors.”

The woman rep, who is married as a second wife, caused a stir earlier this month when she claimed she had been barred from a Kericho hotel after being asked to produce a marriage certificate.

Mwonzora Tells State Media, Mugabe Must Be Blocked, Herald Uses That To Mean An Attack On Chamisa

By Paul Nyathi|Opposition MDC Alliance Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora has been quoted by the state media in what the Herald has turned into a claim that party President Nelson Chamisa contributed to the party loss in the just ended elections by associating himself with former President Robert Mugabe.

The paper indicates that Mwonzora told them in an interview over the weekend that he was against the involvement of Mr Mugabe and made his position clear even before last week’s harmonised elections.

“My opposition to Mugabe is known in the party. I did not like Mugabe. I have opposed working with him. I think Mugabe is a kiss of death. I still maintain that,” Mwonzora is quoted.

He added: “I do not think there is any wisdom in working with him. We are not working with Mugabe as a party. Mugabe is 94 years old. He must just rest. He must not be involved in political processes of the country. I think at 94 he must rest and have nothing to so with the country. That is my personal opinion. I am against any association with Mugabe.”

But Mwonzora does not in any way or at any stage mention Nelson Chamisa; and neither does he suggest there was a rift between him and Chamisa.

Job Sikhala Warns Anyone Standing Against Chamisa

By Paul Nyathi|Newly elected MDC Alliance Member of Parliament for Zengeza Job Sikhala has issued a warning against anyone within the party who opposes party leader Nelson Chamisa in his efforts to discredit results of the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections.

In a highly sensitional post on his social media platforms, Sikhala warns party members against thoughts of splitting the party yet again this time on how to handle the aftermath of the election loss which was hinted by weekend state media.

Wrote Sikhala on his Facebook page:

“Someone posted me a story from today’s Sunday Mail insinuating that there are people in the Alliance who are plotting or fighting President Chamisa over the way we must treat the shameful results of the presidential votes announced recently.

Let me state it unequivocally here, that no one should ever dare distract Chamisa from accomplishing what we have asked him to do for us as Zimbabweans. Let it be known and set as a warning that we will not tolerate any nonsense again to destabilise the party. If there is anyone harbouring such ambitions to destabilise the party, be warned beforehand.”

State media has been awash with reports that some senior MDC members are up against Chamisa’s challenge of the election outcome all claiming that the party lost the elections out of its own bundling and not of any rigging by ZANU PF.

Top amongst the officials who arw quoted as suggesting that Chamisa’s elections challenge efforts are futile are veteran Bulawayo based former parliamentarian Eddie Cross and the party Secretary General Douglas Mwonzora.

The media reports that the opposition party is set for another split if it fails to handle the aftermath of yet another disastrous election.

MDC Supporters In Torrid Weekend In The Hands Of The Military

Security agencies continued a crackdown on opposition activists in Zimbabwe on Sunday, less than three days after historic presidential elections won by Emmerson Mnangagwa, the leader of the ruling Zanu-PF party.

Human rights groups reported dozens of abductions, beatings and rapes carried out by unidentified men overnight in the centre and north-eastern areas of the country.

The wave of repression began on Friday night with the army moving through neighbourhoods in Harare, the capital, and satellite towns, targeting supporters and officials of the opposition party, Movement for Democratic Change (MDC). An MDC spokesman said thousands of its members were now in hiding.

“The nature of an abduction means we can’t tell who has gone, but we have lots of people missing. We have helped five people who narrowly escaped abduction to flee Zimbabwe. Others we are hiding in safe houses. There is intimidation and atrocious treatment of people who they catch,” Nkululeko Sibanda, an MDC spokesman, said.

Mnangagwa, a 75-year-old former spy chief and Zanu-PF party stalwart, won with 50.8% of the vote, narrowly avoiding a runoff with the 40-year-old MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa.

Chamisa, a pastor and lawyer, who won 44.3% of the vote, according to election officials, has called the polls “fraudulent and illegitimate”.

Mnangagwa told journalists on Friday night that he had been freely and fairly elected.

Sibanda said the repression over the weekend was the worst he had experienced in nearly 20 years as an activist. “This is at an astonishing level. It is worse than under Mugabe,” he said.

Unidentified men armed with axes and firearms forced their way into the homes of known opposition supporters in Harare during the early hours of Sunday morning.

Relatives of Happymore Chidziva, an MDC youth leader, were questioned, then transported to a disused factory where they were badly beaten before being dumped in the streets.

“Last night six guys entered our premises. Three stayed outside. They wanted to know where Happymore was. I told them I didn’t know. They took us in their vehicle to [offices] and beat us,” Jethro Matanga, a victim of the attack, told the Guardian.

The homes of at least two senior MDC leaders, both parliamentarians, have been surrounded by armed groups during the night, and relatives harassed.

Other raids were carried out in Marondera, in the province of Mashonaland East, where several young men were reported as missing, and in Manicaland province, where one MDC activist reported that she and her husband were both raped by unidentified men who broke into their home on Sunday morning, according to consistently reliable human rights activists.

There was no independent confirmation of the claim.

Cornelius Gutha, a spokesman for the MDC youth league, said the party was working to confirm reports of abductions and attacks in the south and west of Zimbabwe.

The election day was peaceful, but seven people were shot dead two days later when soldiers opened fire on MDC protesters in the centre of Harare.

On Thursday, 22 activists were arrested at the opposition party’s headquarters by police. They have been charged with inciting and engaging in political violence. The women among them have been sent to Harare maximum security prison. The men are being held in Harare remand prison.

The MDC headquarters remained closed on Sunday afternoon, guarded by riot police equipped with armoured vehicles and water cannon.

Mnangagwa, who hopes to attract private investors to Zimbabwe, has made strenuous efforts to improve the image of Zanu-PF, long seen as Mugabe’s political vehicle.

A spokesperson for the military said no soldiers have been deployed in any residential area to beat up people at night or at any time of the day.

“If there are any individuals masquerading as our members committing crime, these might be criminals bent on tarnishing the image of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces,” the spokesperson told local media.

The police did not turn up to a press conference they themselves had called on Sunday afternoon. After waiting 90 minutes, international and local media walked out in protest.

On Friday, riot police broke up a press conference organised by the MDC at a hotel in central Harare.

Authorities in Zimbabwe need international legitimacy to obtain the multibillion-dollar bailouts required to avoid economic breakdown. The high-profile violence is a serious setback and some say the crackdown suggests splits within the ruling elite.

Mnangagwa said on Friday that freedom of speech was an indispensable part of the “new Zimbabwe”. “We won the election freely and fairly, and have nothing to hide or fear,” the veteran of the ruling party said.

What The Law and Constitution Say On The Deployment Of The Military – Veritas

On Wednesday in Harare supporters of the MDC Alliance demonstrated to vent their anger at the delay in announcing the presidential election results. Their belief was that the delay indicated the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and the incumbent government were using it to manipulate the election results. The demonstration turned into a riot with some of the demonstrators throwing stones and setting fires in the middle of the streets. The army was called in to assist the police quell the riots, gunfire was heard throughout the city and three people were killed, many injured and three more subsequently died. There were innocent bystander and passers by that were caught up police and army blitz and witness reports claim that some of the dead and injured were shot in the back.

This bulletin outlines the legal and constitutional provisions about the Defence Forces being employed to assist the police in maintaining law and order.

When can the Defence Forces be Deployed in Zimbabwe?

Section 213 of the Constitution states that “only the President, as Commander-in-Chief”, has power to authorise the deployment of the Defence Forces, and that, with his authority, they may be deployed within Zimbabwe “in support of the Police Service in the maintenance of public order”.

Obviously the Defence Forces should not be deployed lightly. Their members are trained to kill rather than to use peaceful means of persuasion. They are the ultimate coercive arm of the State, to be used only as a last resort when gentler ways of compelling citizens to obey the law have failed. That is why the Constitution reserves to the President the right to order their deployment.

According to reports, the army was called in at the instance of the Police in terms of section 37 of the Public Order and Security Act, which reads:

“If, upon a request made by the Commissioner of Police, the Minister [of Home Affairs] is satisfied that any regulating authority [i.e. a senior police officer] requires the assistance of the Defence Forces for the purpose of suppressing any civil commotion or disturbance in any police district, he may request the Minister responsible for defence to authorise the Defence Forces to assist the police in the exercise of their functions under this Act in the police district concerned.”

The section does not mention the President at all, and to the extent that it seems to give the Minister of Defence power to authorise the Defence Forces to assist the police, it is unconstitutional.

A further point is that Vice-President Chiwenga has been appointed as Minister of Defence, and his entitlement to hold that portfolio is open to challenge since section 215 of the Constitution states that the President must appoint a Minister – not a Vice-President – to be responsible for the Defence Forces.

It is unlikely that the deployment was in fact ordered by the Minister without involving the President, but if that is what happened then the deployment was illegal. If on the other hand the President did in fact authorise the deployment then it was lawful under the Constitution regardless of any deficiency in section 37 of the Public Order and Security Act or any defect in Vice-President Chiwenga’s appointment.

Was the killing of civilians legal?

Whether the members of the Defence Forces were trying to restore order on the authority of the President under section 213 of the Constitution or on the authority of the Minister of Defence under section 37 of the Public Order and Security Act, in either event they are bound to obey the law like everyone else in Zimbabwe. While they can use whatever reasonable force is needed to quell a riot, they are not entitled to kill anyone because the right to life is inviolable under the Constitution.

Although most of the human rights guaranteed by the Declaration of Rights can be limited in terms of section 86 of the Constitution, and although the Constitution allows courts to impose the death penalty in limited circumstances, the right to life cannot otherwise be limited and no one may violate it: see section 86(3)(a) of the Constitution. Hence if soldiers or police officers shot and killed the three civilians yesterday, they did so illegally however necessary they may have believed the killing to be.

Clear Hospital Evidence Of Gun Welding Soldiers Conducting “Terror Attacks” In Harare’s Surbubs

ZimEye reveals hospital evidence of terror attacks carried out by gun wielding soldiers who have been descending Harare’s surbubs soon after the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission delayed announcing their sham elections last week.

In the below interview, a healthcare professional reveals at least two victims admitted at Kuwandaza clinic, who due to the seriousness of their injuries, were swiftly transferred to Harare Hospital. For their protection, names have been redacted. She is joined by a witness who describes how the attacks are being carried out – ” A large number of soldiers conducted their second terror visit on Friday night.

“They arrived using two lorries and they were armed”, he tells ZimEye.

Two days before, the man in charge of the army and the intelligence, Gen Constantino Chiwenga spoke concerning the killing of civilians by the army in a different incident, that of the Wednesday protests which has seen 10 people being killed. He claimed that the bullets seen on the streets after the attack were fired by MDC members, who he labelled protesters. In a twist, he shifted and began claiming that the bullets were produced by teargas.

Beyond other methods of running a fake election, ZANU PF used fake observers who are in infact their own party members. One such example is a woman by nane, Anastancia Ndlovu, a well known ZANU PF member, writes a contributor.

Ndlovu is not even a foreigner, and she has before served in the ZANU PF government as late as 2014.

No Inauguration For Mnangagwa Until MDC Says So

By Paul Nyathi|President elect Emmerson Mnangagwa will only be inaugurated after the opposition MDC Alliance is satisfied through a possible court challenge that he did not rig the elections with the assistance of the Zimbagwe Electoral Commission, ZEC, presidential spokesperson George Charamba has concurred.

This dispels social media messages that the Mnangagwa would be sworn in on Monday at the National Sports Stadium, a claim that is in direct violation of the Constitution.

In an interview with state media at the weekend, Charamba said the Government will follow the law on the inauguration processes.

“Government does not announce its programmes through the social media,” he said. “If the date has been set we will announce. How do you know that there won’t be a challenge to the results? We wait for the seven days to lapse, if there is no legal challenge to the result, then naturally we will announce the date.”

Section 93 of the Constitution states that any aggrieved presidential candidate may challenge the validity of an election by lodging a petition or application with the Constitutional Court within seven days after the date of the declaration of the results of the election.

“The Constitutional Court must hear and determine a petition or application under subsection (1) within 14 days after the petition or application was lodged, and the court’s decision is final,” reads Section 93 (3).

The Constitution states that in determining a petition or application, the Constitutional Court may declare a winner or invalidate the election in which case a fresh election must be held within 60 days after such a determination.

The supreme law of the land says in the event that there is no court challenge, a President-elect must take an oath of office on the ninth day after being declared the winner.

It also says in the event of a court challenge, a President-elect must be sworn in within 48 hours after the Constitutional Court has declared him or her to be the winner.

Constitutional lawyer Professor Lovemore Madhuku said the Cabinet continues to carry out its duties before new ministers are sworn in.

“For the President, there is one way of leaving office, but for ministers there are two circumstances,” he said.

“If a new President is sworn into office who is different from the President who appointed them, they immediately cease to hold office.

“But if the person who is sworn into office is the same person who was President before, then ministers do not lose their office until he appoints a new Cabinet

MDC Alliance Raises Red Flag Over Victimisation Of Polling Agents And Tampering Of Election Related Evidence

Election Bulletin Issue 18

Sunday 5 August 2018

ZEC, Security Agencies victimizing Our Polling Agents and Tempering with evidence

The MDC has learnt of victimization of its polling agents around the country following the announcing of sham results by ZEC as a way to manipulate and destroy evidence.

We have received numerous calls from our agents saying they have been re- called by ZEC to sign new V11 forms, as the ones they had are said to have errors.

Some have been offered cash in excess of $2000 to make the amendments.

One of our agents in Marondera who refused the offer was abducted and his whereabouts have become a mystery, as he has not been seen since Thursday.

In Shurugwi South, at Rusununguko High Polling Station, our agents were called back by ZEC because the electoral body wanted to open some ballot boxes to check for “locked in” protocol registers.

In Makoni West, ward 39, at St Bedes and Madzingidzi polling stations, our polling agents were threatened and bullied into signing new V11 forms after 6 ballot boxes were re- opened.

In Zhombe, all presiding officers at the 62 polling stations were called for a meeting in which they were instructed to amend all the V11 forms as well as adding 60 more assisted voters on their assisted voter’s lists for all the polling stations. To make matters worse, these presiding officers are forging our agent’s signatures.

Gokwe North has reported similar tactics by ZEC. Our Chief election agent got unwelcome visitors from soldiers earlier today who wanted to search her house, but she stood her ground that they could only do so in the presence of a search warrant which they didn’t have. She has since relocated for fear of their return in the night.

The worrying trend continues throughout the country.

In Redcliff, the constituency election agent named Chakauya, has called in our polling agents saying they needed to fix the protocol registers inside the ballot boxes.

Our polling Agents in Nkayi North have also been summoned for a meeting with ZEC. To “sort some things” around the V11 forms.

This is just a cursory feel of what ZEC is doing in order to legitimize the stolen election result they announced a few days ago.

In other areas, MDC Alliance polling Agents in Muzarabani South are now living in hiding since they are being hunted by Zanu PF officials day and night.

These officials are knocking the doors of local government candidates and their agents who represented MDC Alliance on the 30 of July 2018.

Meanwhile soldiers have spread a blanket of terror over residential and rural areas

Over 2 500 soldiers were deployed in all the high density suburbs of Harare including Epworth, Chitungwiza, Glen View Kuwadzana, Glen Norah and Dzivarasekwa and have been thrashing people every night.

State security operatives have also been deployed countrywide to instill fear in the people and stifle dissent.

Soldiers last night assaulted Highfield residents in a bid to get information on the whereabouts of the MDC Alliance Youth Leader Happymore Chidziva.

They visited the household where Hon Chidziva was once a tenant over 8 years ago and assaulted people who did not even know who Chidziva was.

The visibly shaken victims said they feared for their lives.

This brazen attack on citizens has continued since the senseless murder of innocent by standers by soldiers on Tuesday. This is bringing echoes of 2008 and we ask that this be stopped forthwith.

Man Run Over By Train In Unclear Circumstances

Vic Falls man crushed by train
A Victoria Falls man was crushed by a passenger train on Saturday afternoon near Masuwe River, a few kilometres from the resort town in a suspected case of suicide.

The 38 year old man identified as Hilton Makanda was crushed by the Bulawayo bound passenger train.

The deceased is said to have been lying motionless on the railway track before being crushed by the train.

It is yet to be established whether Makanda was still alive when the train crushed him.

When the ZBC News team arrived at the scene, a few Victoria Falls residents were on the scene, while Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officers were busy removing the body parts from the track.

According to the engine driver, after realising that there was a body on the track, he tried to stop the train while at the same time hooting but the man remained motionless and was crushed by the train.

The body of the deceased was taken to Victoria Falls hospital for post mortem.

Morgan Komichi Bursts Out Against ZEC On V11 Verifications

The MDC Alliance National Chairperson Morgen Komichi has opened up broadly on his party’s position in the aftermath of the general election which they claim was rigged by the ruling ZANU PF in favour of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and ZANU PF.

Komichi revealed the party concerns in a wide ranging interview with The Standard Newspaper Everson Mushava. Below are excerpts from the interview.

EM: Mnangagwa has said Chamisa has a role to play in the future of the country. The statement seems to suggest the president-elect might be mulling coming up with a deal that will enable him to work together with Chamisa. What is your comment?

MK: President Mnangagwa must learn to be different from (former president Robert) Mugabe, but anyhow, when Mugabe was defeated by president Tsvangirai in 2008, he wanted to hand over power to Tsvangirai, but it was Mnangagwa who reversed the results of the 2008 elections. He is not a new person in this matter. He is the master of deceit. He must not pretend to be good to the world, he knows what he did; that he rigged the elections. He steals an election from us and he wants to extend an olive branch to us. Can that be real politics? It is a culture that is developing in Africa and we cannot allow that kind of thing, let a winner be the winner.

EM: If you are offered government of national unity (GNU), are you going to accept?

MK: We don’t want people to abuse their power, abuse the guns to rig elections . Let the GNU come out of free and fair elections, let it come out of a voluntary process where the winner should lead the GNU. Let the GNU be a policy of the party, not to rig elections and call for GNU, that is not acceptable.

EM: Commissioner Qhubani Moyo has been on social media claiming you are being dishonest. He says that you ran away from the verification process and now you claim that you were dribbled. What is your comment?

MK: He is being used by the junta system to pronounce a junta position. He must be able to define what verification is. I have defined verification in the context that I know it. I was entering the room where they were inputting data — that is not verification. I expect him to understand the basic definition of verification. Did he give me data from constituencies? Did we compare their V11 forms and mine? And did I sign those results? I did not do any of that, so I did not verify.

Morgen Komichi

EM: On Thursday night, you sprang forward to interrupt a Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) press briefing announcing presidential results and declared the results fake in front of the whole world following the proceedings. What drove you to do that with all the dangers associated with such a move?

MK: Verification by its simple definition is to check the figures coming out from Zec. Input of the figuresis done after adding results from each of the 210 constituencies. Zec was supposed to give us these figures so that we compare them with the V11 forms which we got from our agents. Presidential results are collated constituency by constituency before they are collated at provincial level and lastly national level. So the verification starts at the constituency level. For the last two days Zec technical people were inputting these figures from the V11 forms. Zec was working with 24 computers and 10 985 V11 forms. That was the activity taking place; it was not verification, but observing people inputting figures into 24 computers.

So verifying was supposed to start after inputting had been completed and we get printed results constituency by constituency and we compare them with the figures which we have from our V11 forms. After that, we should have signed the results constituency by constituency. We discussed that with Zec’s chief elections officer, Utoile Silaigwana, in the morning. We agreed on the procedure and he promised me that he would give us the printed results and would not announce until we had signed them constituency by constituency.

We waited as they were inputting the figures until 9:59pm and when I knocked at his office asking him if they were announcing results, he said no, we are only announcing results for the outstanding four provinces and those for senators, proportional representation and provincial councils. Silaigwana assured me that they would not announce now because we had not yet been given the printed figures for verification. He indicated that the results would be announced the following day. I then went back and relaxed, but then I saw (Zec chairperson Justice Priscilla) Chigumba on television announcing the results of the remaining four provinces and soon after she went on to announce the presidential results.

Then I said this is cheating, this is rigging, and these are fake results. We don’t even know where that woman got those results because the results which were being computed should have passed through my hands, according to the Electoral Law. I then saw that the world was being cheated, my country was being cheated, my party was being cheated and Zimbabweans were being cheated. I took a sacrificial decision to put myself before the guillotine and I couldn’t care if someone had shot me. Of course, I could have been killed, but I wanted to save my country, save my party, save my president and save my nation. That’s what pushed me to go to the podium to tell the truth that these results are fake and are not from the processes which we went through because I was the chief election agent for the MDC Alliance candidate together with Jameson Timba. Many other chief election agents for other parties and candidates like APA were there. None of us was told to come in and verify and sign the results.

EM: There have been messages on social media, with the likes of David Coltart calling on all agents, especially from Mashonaland Central and West provinces to submit the V11 forms. This suggests the party had no V11 forms and people are beginning to think you are holding the nation to ransom when you don’t have evidence of rigging. What is your comment?

MK: You are free to visit our offices and see the V11 forms with your own eyes. Don’t follow social media speculation. Things that are being speculated on social media are written by the CIOs to confuse people. We had polling agents at every polling station; where we did not have local polling agents we hired people from Harare to areas like UMP. Our own people brought those V11 forms. Never be cheated. We had agents at more than 98% of polling stations as one or two missed due to other reasons.

EM: You lost majority seats in Parliament and you seem to have conceded defeat. Are you also challenging the parliamentary polls?

MK: We are challenging the parliamentary polls. The example I am giving is Chegutu West where our figures were swapped with those of Zanu PF candidate Dexter Nduna. Our clever polling agents quickly identified the anomaly and it was officially reversed by Zec. Zec confirmed they had swapped figures. We have a number of MPs who have lodged complaints and are challenging the results.

EM: Can you hint on how many constituencies you intend to challenge?

MK: We have around 20 MPs who have lodged petitions before the electoral courts, for example, Mutasa North and Zvimba East. You know that Chipinge South MP Enock Poruzingazi’s car was found with ballot papers. Where did he get them? In the offices of Zanu PF in Mutare, a sympathiser saw stacks of ballot papers. The sympathiser is prepared to write an affidavit. So Zec gave Zanu PF ballot papers in advance and evidence is Poruzingazi’s car which was found with ballot papers. Every Zanu PF candidate was given similar packages.

Where did they put them? It was for a purpose. Zanu PF MPs were given tonnes of rice and agricultural inputs. Those things are fundamental issues because to be involved in vote-buying is against the code of conduct. Observers saw these things and people reported it to Zec and they did not care.

EM: Many people say you don’t have to look beyond yourself as a party for your “defeat”. They cite your failure to control double candidates as the source of your waterloo. What is your comment to that?

MK: How many double candidates were there? There were not even more than 10. Most of them withdrew. What we are saying is that the electoral process should have been be free and fair. Was food not being distributed? Did we get the voters roll? Did we participate in the voters roll printing? Those are the electoral issues which were critical.

WATCH: Why 6 Million Zimbabweans Are Inaugurating Chamisa President Of Zimbabwe This Month

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

Seeing the military brutality and the total breakdown of Law and Order in Zimbabwe that has seen 10 people being killed in the last few days and numerous others assaulted by military officers on the orders of the outgoing president of Zimbabwe; and all this coming at a time when a totally void and completely invalid election was conducted last Monday, 6 million Zimbabweans who regularly fund the reserve bank with over $2 billion are inaugurating MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa as the new President Of Zimbabwe. Below was the build up to the final inauguration to be held in the UK’s “spaghetti junction” city of Birmingham.

“We Have No Apologies For Winning”: Simon Khaya Moyo

Simon Khaya Moyo

By Own Correspondent| Zanu PF spokesperson and Information, Media and Broadcasting Services acting minister Simon Khaya Moyo has revealed that his party had no apologies for winning resoundingly in the just ended harmonised polls which he said were free and fair.

Khaya Moyo urged aggrieved political opponents who felt the election outcome should be otherwise  to seek redress through the courts.

In an exclusive interview with a local publication, Khaya  Moyo wished  political opponents who were challenging the election outcome the best of luck saying his party was keeping quiet regarding election victory since it had won resoundingly.

Said Khaya Moyo:

“We won free and fair. Those who are disputing the results have the freedom to challenge them in the courts of law and I hear they are going to do so.

So, for us, we will not comment much on a matter that will be handled by the courts. Not until it has been finalised. We are keeping our mouths shut knowing that we won overwhelmingly.

They are taking their matter to court, which is the legal and correct thing to do.

Let us wish them the best and wait for the outcome. As Zanu PF, we won resoundingly and make no apologies for that.”-Standard

MDC Alliance Activist Ozwell Chitere Picked Up By Police

By Own Correspondent| MDC Alliance activist from Mutare Central Ozwell Chitere who was reportedly picked up by unidentified men at Watsomba business centre in Manicaland is in police custody at CID Mutare, ZimEye has learnt.

Trevor Saruwaka, the newly elected member of parliament for Mutasa Central revealed that Chitere was picked up by CID details in the afternoon before being taken to Mutare central police station.

Said Saruwaka:

“We now know that he was picked by CID police who took him to Mutare. He called his wife to bring him a jersey.

He also indicated that he was being accused of torching a Zanu PF member’s house in Sherukuru area, Kagweda village, Ward 14, Mutasa Central under Chief Mutasa.

We have seen this before where strong opposition party activists are simply accused of crimes they never committed and the police takes no time in arresting them.

This is done so that an impression is created in the community that belonging to the opposition will bring you trouble.

We believe that Chitere’s only crime is that he belongs to MDC Alliance.”

Victim Of ZNA Shooting Sylvia Maposa Buried

Sylvia Maposa’s hearse

By Own Correspondent| One of the victims of the Zimbabwe National Army shooting which claimed 5 other lives in Harare, Sylvia Maposa was yesterday (Saturday) laid to rest at Zororo cemetery along Seke road in Harare.

Maposa who was shot in the back by soldiers who opened live ammunition at protestors and civilians in Harare on August 1 2018 is survived by her husband and two children.

A sombre atmosphere gripped Waterfalls in Harare as Maposa’s relatives, friends and neighbours could not come to terms with her death which they described as untimely.

Maposa was shot while she was on her way home after being dismissed early from work by her superiors. She however did not take part in the violent protests which rocked Harare.

Former Tourism minister, Prisca Mupfumira who is related to the deceased told Times Live that the family was optimistic that justice would be served and those responsible for the mayhem arrested.

Mupfumira revealed that Maposa who was her aunt was caught in the crossfire during clashes between the military and MDC Alliance supporters in the capital, Harare, on Wednesday.

“She was innocently coming from work and was caught in the crossfire. Imagine finding out through social media, and identifying her body through the dress she was wearing lying down,” said Mupfumira.

Mupfumira said her late aunt was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is on record apportioning blame to the MDC Alliance leadership arguing that they were responsible for the loss of 6 lives, injury to dozens others and destruction of property.

However, the MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa refuted the claims arguing that those responsible for violence are not members of his party querying why the ZNA fired live rounds on civilians inclyding the late Maposa.

“Serve One Term You’re Too Old”: Malema Advises Mnangagwa

Julius Malema

By Own Correspondent: Founding leader of South African opposition political party, the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF), Julius Malema has urged President elect Emmerson Mnangagwa to let the younger generation take over and serve only one term as president saying that he is too old.

Malema who was one of the first people to congratulate Mnangagwa after he was declared the winner of the presidential election by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) expressed optimism that Mnangagwa will not seek for a second term of office because he was too old.

Said Malema:

“We call upon President Mnangagwa to serve one term, he’s too old. We hope President Mnangagwa will not want to go for the second term.

Let Zanu PF begin a process of producing younger people who will compete with Chamisa. President Mnangagwa this is a brotherly advice, a son’s call that says one term is enough, you are too old, let the younger generation take over.”-New Zimbabwe

Chiyangwa And Sibanda Have To Quit Football For Politics

Comment By Michael Kariati|THE election of Zifa president Phillip Chiyangwa and his deputy Omega Sibanda into the Parliament of Zimbabwe for the next five years is a turning point for Zimbabwean football.

Not that Chiyangwa and Sibanda will raise the issue of football in Parliament, but that the football family will have a reason to push them out of the football hierarchy now that they are more into politics.

That Chiyangwa and Sibanda decided to contest for political positions instead of waiting for the Zifa elections clearly shows that they are more interested in politics than the game of football itself.

That, however, is their choice and they have the right to do so. Chiyangwa won the Zvimba South constituency after accumulating 11 819 votes compared to closest rival Kufakunesu Chidhakwa who polled 4 886, while Sibanda got 11 350 votes against 4 809 votes.

Surely, Chiyangwa’s three-year football reign has not been a bed of roses, but it also brought some huge progress. The Mighty Warriors qualified for the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2016 Africa Women’s Cup of Nations and are on their way to the finals of the 2018 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Warriors too qualified for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations and won two consecutive Cosafa Cup titles under coach Sunday Chidzambwa, who was appointed by Chiyangwa to replace the departed Kalisto Pasuwa.

More importantly to Chiyangwa’s credit is that the infighting that characterised the existence of Zifa has now subsided, that is, if it is still there at all.

There have, however, been other issues like the treatment of the Mighty Warriors either in camp or after matches, as, well as the Zifa debt which is still around $7 million despite Chiyangwa’s claims that it has been reduced to just around $2 million.

There is also the issue of junior football which continues to go on a downward spiral due to lack of attention from the national football federation.

That, however, cannot be taken as total failure, but Chiyangwa has too much on his plate to be considered to remain the Zifa boss. He is a businessman with a vast business empire. He is the president of the regional football body, Cosafa, and is now a Member of Parliament.

What happens should Chiyangwa win the Zifa presidency and he is appointed a deputy minister or a minister in the forthcoming government of Zimbabwe?

Will he have time for domestic football matters?

Under the current status quo, will Chiyangwa be able to attend parliament, deal with the Zvimba South constituency issues, turn his attention to his businesses and also have time for football’s demands, both locally and at Cosafa?

The question is: What exactly is there in football that makes one commit himself to the game even though he holds a national political office, and has other huge commitments?

Both Chiyangwa and Sibanda have come out in the open that they would be seeking re-election when Zifa elections come on December 1 with Sibanda seeking another four years having been Zifa vice-president since 2014 when Cuthbert Dube was Zifa president.

December 1 is not far away and the Zifa Council should be guided by the matters raised above when they cast their votes for their leaders for the next four years. They will have no one but themselves to blame should they come up with the wrong choices. Twice the Zifa Council voted for Zifa presidents Leo Mugabe and Cuthbert Dube only for the same councillors to pass a vote of no confidence on their choices. This will not happen as long as they vote for the right people.

Endorsing Flawed Polls: Africa’s Shameful Charade

Candid Comment By Brezhnev Malaba|It was the swashbuckling Kenyan lawyer, Professor Patrick Lumumba, who made a poignant observation with regards the shambolic state of electoral management on the African continent.

“Africans can’t count! When it comes to elections, Africans can’t count. If you go to the Germans, they’ll have an election and, within a few hours, they’ll have results, because it is a competition of ideas.”

Should anyone really be surprised that Zimbabwe’s general election has generated more heat than light? Unless you have been living under a rock for many years, there is no way you could have naïvely expected the election to be anything but controversial. For instance, of what use is biometric voter registration where there is nothing biometric about the polling itself?

Six people have lost their precious lives as a direct consequence of politicians’ insatiable hunger for power. This is tragic.

I was astounded last night when the chairperson of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, Priscilla Chigumba, announced that the election results of one province “are still outstanding”. There was a collective gasp of incredulity as she made that statement. Seconds later, we all shook with unrestrained laughter, as the sheer absurdity of it all hit home. Lumumba’s words came flooding back.

After announcing the presidential results of nine provinces, Chigumba then dropped yet another bombshell: she revealed that the results of the “outstanding” province —Mashonaland West — would be announced within the next “60 minutes”.

There were gasps of disbelief once more. And so the long wait stretched deep into the night as it took more than two hours for the commission to present the rest of the results. The opposition MDC Alliance immediately rejected the results as fake, saying they were not verified.

Zimbabwe is a traumatised society. Fear plays a significant role in the day-to-day lives of ordinary people. The late Professor Masipula Sithole often spoke of a powerful force in Zimbabwean politics — what he termed the “margin of terror”. And in a country where mainstream media is monopolised by the ruling elites, it is easy to strike fear in the hearts of vulnerable voters.

Most people have difficulty in properly assessing the credibility of an election. This is because most of us wrongly view an election as a one-day event. It is not. An election is a process, with various stages or segments: pre-election, polling day, counting of ballots, and post-election.

The most comprehensive assessment of the election has come from the European Union’s observer mission which, while noting the poll was “largely peaceful”, strongly condemned: “The misuse of state resources, instances of coercion and intimidation, partisan behaviour by traditional leaders and overt bias in state media in favour of the ruling party meant that a truly level playing field was not achieved”.

Many Zimbabweans have expressed utter astonishment at African election observer teams’ appraisals of the general election. Their approach — it has become patently clear — is to “see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil”.

The rubberstamping of flawed elections has become a monumental scandal and disservice to democracy in Africa.

Rights Group Condemns Deployment Of Soldiers On Citizens

Media Statement|Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) condemns the Zimbabwe Government’s deployment of the army into the country’s major centres and mounting of roadblocks in cities and across the country’s major highways. This follows the disputed 30 July polls that have so far claimed 6 citizens following protests in Harare.

The response by the military to fire live ammunition into crowds on 01 August 208 is regrettable.

The Commissioner General of Police’s attempts to justify the deployment of soldiers arguing that the police had invoked section 37 of the Public Order and Security Act (POSA) is both unconstitutional and ill-advised.

As Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition, we firmly hold the view that the military must not usurp policing duties from the police.

We remain greatly worried on the safety of citizens following the shootings and the beatings of civilians in Harare and Chitungwiza.

The continued presence of the army in the streets only confirms our view that since the military coup of 15 November 2017 human security in Zimbabwe is at stake.

We are equally worried with the intimidation and assault of media personnel covering an MDC Alliance press conference at Bronte Hotel in Harare. In addition, both local and international journalists have been assaulted by the army and police while carrying out their constitutionally guaranteed duties.

Such undemocratic actions confirm our fears that the Mnangagwa administration is not sincere with ensuring that the country moves towards a more open and democratic society through reforms to state institutions and the political environment.

The events of the past 3 days after the July 30 polls are an indictment on the part of the Zimbabwe Government and the military contingent and indicate that the military government has upped its game since the June 2008 state sponsored terror which claimed more than 200 lives.

Following the military coup of November 2017, we have been clear as Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition that the only way for Zimbabwe to return to its constitutional order is to uphold the dictates of Chapter 4 of the Constitution and repeal of legislation that curtails human freedoms guaranteed by the constitution.
We reiterate our position that Zimbabwe is now a fully-fledged military state and that unleashing the military on unarmed civilians can only plunge Zimbabwe into a deeper crisis.

As CiZC, we implore regional, continental and international partners to intervene in resolving the Zimbabwean crisis which if unabated, is a potential threat to peace and stability in the SADC region and the globe at large.

ZEC Releases Polling Station Data For Presidential Results

THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) has availed consolidated statistics for the Presidential election, including data from all V11 forms, in a development expected to give further credence to results of the plebiscite.

The release of the exhaustive data will help disaggregate the voting tally. Zanu-PF candidate Emmerson Mnangagwa won 50,8 percent of the vote ahead of Nelson Chamisa of the MDC Alliance, who amassed 44,3 percent of the 4,7 million votes cast.

The elections management body said those who want to query the data were free to take up the matter with them or with the courts. In an interview, Zec acting chief elections officer Utloile Silaigwana said the authenticated data will be availed in digital format.

“We now have all aggregated data for the elections and we will make it available for collection. The data has all the information on the harmonised elections and it is in digital CD format. What is important to note is that this information will be a reflection of all the V11 forms from all the 10 000 plus polling stations we had. This means the information will contain all the Presidential material at every polling station, at every ward, at every constituency and at every province. This information is easily analysable and searchable. We are inviting all the parties, in particular their chief agents to come and collect the CDs. We are also in the process of making sure that apart the CDs, this information will be accessible on our website soon.”

Mr Silaigwana said the electoral body welcomes any objections of the data.

“Everyone is free to make a complaint if they wish to because the data is easily accessible and analysable,” he said.

Consolidated data for the National Assembly and local authority elections will be availed later.

“We have decided to start with the Presidential elections first, but we are also in the process of compiling consolidated data of the V11 forms for the National Assembly and Local Authority seats in due course. You will appreciate that with the local authority, the data is humongous and it takes a bit more time,” he said.

In a separate statement yesterday, Zec said electronic copies of the Presidential election were now available.

“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) would like to advise presidential candidates or their chief elections agents that they can now come and collect electronic copies of the 2018 presidential election results at the Zec head office’s public relations department. These results will also be published in the press and on the Zec website www.Zec.org.zw, where other stakeholders can access them.”

Results by provinces as provided by ZEC are as below:

Ramaphosa Too Quick To Endorse Mnangagwa, But Why?

It is worrying that South African President Cyril Ramaphosa could leap in and congratulate Zimbabwe President Emmerson Mnangagwa on winning last week’s election.

It’s worrying because there are still some doubts about skullduggery in the poll itself or in the counting process.

Although Ramaphosa did urge the disgruntled opposition to take the legal route to challenge the results if they were not happy, it was apparent that the ANC, which he heads, has already decided to cheer on their erstwhile comrade in the liberation struggle.

Coming on the back of reports that the South African government had not responded to opposition leader Nelson Chamisa when he claimed his MDC Alliance was being illegally squeezed out of contention, the attitude of Ramaphosa shows bias Zanu-PF.

So, not much has really changed since the days of Thabo Mbeki, when the then SA president’s softly-softly diplomacy allowed the culture of stealing elections to embed itself in Zimbabwe.

And, as the former head of the South African Independent Electoral Commission, retired judge Johann Kriegler, tells, it is that embedded undemocratic system – rather than any illegalities on polling day – which may have allowed Zanu-PF to, yet again, subvert the will of the people of Zimbabwe.

However, the MDC is not blameless either – and Chamisa was arrogant in predicting, even before a ballot had been cast, that he would win.

Mnangagwa has said all the right, reconciliatory, things in the wake of his “victory,” but these must not be empty words covering for a Zanu-PF which is just going to slide back into looting the country, as happened in the time of Robert Mugabe.

Mnangagwa has the chance to burnish his own questionable legacy by becoming the man who makes his country great again.

He needs to seize the moment. The world is watching…

The Citizen Commentary.

US To Probe Data Of Disputed Zimbabwe Elections

The United States says it will continue to review data collected by its own observation teams, other international missions, and local observers before it can make a complete assessment of the disputed Zimbabwe election.

The MDC Alliance led by 40-year-old Nelson Chamisa is disputing the outcome of the polls alleging that they were rigged to the point of having more votes than registered voters.

While the winner, ZANU PF leader and incumbent president, Emmerson Mnangagwa, 75, acknowledged that there were “challenges” he insisted the polls were free and fair.

The US Department of State said Zimbabwe’s 30 July elections presented the country with a historic chance to move beyond the political and economic crises of the past and toward profound democratic change.

“Unfortunately, Zimbabwe’s success in delivering an election day that was peaceful, and open to international observers, was subsequently marred by violence and a disproportionate use of deadly force against protestors by the security forces,” the department’s spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a statement.

Six people were shot dead on Wednesday by soldiers and many others were injured. A seventh person is reported to have succumbed to gunshot wounds on Friday at a hospital in Chitungwiza.

The US said it welcomes the commitment by Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to release comprehensive election results in a form that provides full transparency. ZEC maintains that the election results were an accurate reflection of the voters’ will.

Former colonial master, Britain, also remained concerned about the developments.

“The UK remains deeply concerned by the violence following the elections and the disproportionate response from the security forces,” said UK Minister of State for Africa, Harriett Baldwin.

She, however, urged electoral stakeholders to work together to ensure calm.

“While polling day passed off peacefully, a number of concerns have been raised by observer missions, particularly about the pre-election environment, the role of State media, and the use of State resources. There is much to be done to build confidence in Zimbabwe’s electoral process.”

Baldwin urged that any appeals against the results or the process be handled swiftly and impartially.

US Senator Slams Chiwenga’s Use Of Soldiers

The use of the Zimbabwean military to respond to political protests, or the use of the police force to disrupt press conferences, does not signal a new era, rather it echoes a dreadful past.

WASHINGTON – U.S. By Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.), chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Subcommittee on African Affairs, today released the following statement on the July 30, 2018 election in Zimbabwe:

“Over the past several days, I have had the privilege of observing Zimbabwe’s historic elections. After decades of misrule by Robert Mugabe, Zimbabwe deserves to have a government worthy of its people.

“After a day of peaceful voting on July 30th, the violence on August 1st that claimed the lives of at least six people and injured many more was a throwback to the old days. The use of the Zimbabwean military to respond to political protests, or the use of the police force to disrupt press conferences, does not signal a new era, rather it echoes a dreadful past.

“In order to instill confidence in the election results, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission must now make good on its commitment to release comprehensive polling data in a transparent manner that includes results from each polling station signed off by party agents who were present for the casting of ballots and the tabulation of results. Challenges to the results must be pursued through legal channels.

“During my visit to nearly a dozen polling stations scattered throughout rural Zimbabwe, I saw citizens, some young and agile, others bent with age, walking miles for the chance to cast a vote that mattered. I saw representatives of ZANU PF and MDC Alliance sitting together, chatting amicably and helping each other keep proper tallies. In everyone I encountered, I saw the hope for a brighter, more democratic and prosperous future for Zimbabwe.

“Here’s hoping that future is at hand.”

Chigumba With Bloody Bruises, And Why She Could Be Killed By Junta

Chigumba as she was announcing results last night

By Ndaba Nhuku| When she rose up to announce that Emmerson Mnangagwa is the winner of the dodgy 2018 elections, Justice Priscilla Chigumba appeared on National Television with a visibly bloodied face, and bruises all over her countenance.

  • Who beat her up?

  • Why did she speak like a subdued, tortured parrot on that night of nights?

A quick flashback – people recall that 6 ZEC officials died in a short period: four ZEC officials (then) in a period of three months, just after the 2013 elections. The causes of deaths ranged from suspected foul play, to poisoning, heart, lung and renal failure, to name a few.

Shupikai Mashereni, who was the director of public relations at ZEC waa the first casualty. Shupikai Mashereni was killed shortly after he approached the then CIO boss, Mr Didymus Mutasa for a Headlands farm promised as a reward for a sterling job for the 2013 fraudulent election. Mutasa promised Mr Shupikai Mashereni who was then a senior official at the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) for a sterling job in twisting the 2013 election figures in favour of ZANU PF. Impeccable emails in ZimEye’s  possession show the man revealing the secret deal to his close family, shortly before he was killed.

Mashereni later died under mysterious circumstances in February 2014, shortly after demanding from Mutasa the 70 hectare Headlands farm promised to him before the July 2013 elections.

A ZEC official speaking exclusively to ZimEye, said “he suddenly turned purple’ (skid colour) shortly before collapsing forever.

After this one, sudden fate hit Mr Lovemore Chipunza Sekeramayi the Chief Elections Officer for the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission. He was 67. He passed on while attending a meeting of Chief Elections Officers for electoral management bodies in the SADC region in Swaziland. Sekeramayi died two months after Shupikai Mashereni.

Then there was the acting director for public relations, Mr Tendayi Pamire who died at B.S Leon Medical Centre in Harare on July 10th 2014. He was 46.

Then later there was Mr Juba Chekenyere, Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) director of administration. He died on the 16 July 2014 He was the fourth top official at the commission to pass on within three months

Therr was the elections manager Mr Kenneth Kwaramba who died after falling ill while chairing a Hurungwe West planning meeting in Karoi in May 2015. Kwaramba the government report says, started complaining of a common poisoning symptom.

Chamisa In Massive Gains

By Own Correspondent| MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa yesterday made massive gains in the latest development after the holding of the disputed 2018 polls.

As he continues on his legal fight against the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission and also Emmerson Mnangagwa, Chamisa received the backing of millions of Zimbabweans who are in the diaspora.

There are over 6 million Zimbabweans now resident outside the country who have expressed that they will not recognise another president other than him, Chamisa.

These are the people with “the bag of cash,” as expressed by one man during the program. He was referring to the more than 2 billion dollars, that diaspora is pumping into the Reserve Bank Of Zimbabwe.

To show how serious the development is, one woman told ZimEye she had not slept for over 14 days while praying and fasting for Zimbabwe. She said she is fully behind the idea to enforce the wishes of millions of local Zimbabweans whose choice was systematically ignored by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.

One man screamed back in writing saying, “Simba we are not inaugurating Chamisa for 6 million in the diaspora only but we installing him rightfully for all Zimbabweans including those kumusha.” SEE PICTURE –

On Saturday from 3 p.m. all the way up to 8 p.m, Zimbabweans held preparatory meetings for the final ceremony to be held in Birmingham.

This all began when on Friday afternoon, 41,000 Zimbabweans converged online to back the plan to make Chamisa President.

Zimbabweans, who regularly contribute more than $2 billion into the Reserve Bank purse, overwhelmingly declared that ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa does not have a legal claim to Presidency.

A meet up was then scheduled and held on Saturday afternoon in the UK coordinated by the Zimbabwe Human Rights Organisation, ZHRO.

The NGO’s leader John Burke described this as a step towards getting justice for the Zimbabwean masses following clear findings that the just ended elections were neither free nor fair.

The UK, EU and other bodies have condemned the polls.

After the first full inauguration scheduled in a few days time, Zimbabweans are planning to later hold their final physical ceremony in the same city of Birmingham.

Birmingham is also the seat of the UK’s largest spaghetti road junctions, Chamisa’s trumpet call.

LATEST – CHAMISA INAUGURATION PREPS MEETING – CONTINUED

Good afternoon Zimbabweans. I am going to read out the DECLARATION.

We, who represent the majority members of the Zimbabwe diaspora numbering: 5,653,400 people, do declare as follows:

That we have valid reasons to prove to the world that the Zimbabwean nation, its government, and its courts have been captured by electoral fraud of a very serious magnitude and sophistication that has violently and criminally robbed the MDC Alliance and the majority of Zimbabweans of their legitimate vote.

We have undeniable evidence and proof to avail that Nelson Chamisa’s party on the 30th July 2018, won the popular vote by a wide majority against Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Zanu PF.

We further have reason and evidence to show that Nelson Chamisa’s party the MDC Alliance on the 30th July 2018, won the elections by a majority, nationally.

That we have reason and proof to show that at local government level that Nelson Chamisa on the 30th July 2018, won the elections by a majority nationally.

That we have reasons to show that there is a horrific state capture, and one of a very serious and a criminal nature perpetrated by ZANU PF and their counterparts in the army and the police and we hereby invoke criminal law proceedings at a local and international level. We further invoke electoral laws as provided by the Zimbabwe Constitution at national level. The Constitution is the only charter that provide the citizens’ fundamental rights and obligations and we are hereby exercising those rights which must be respected as provided for by law.

We invoke and engage SADC and African Union (AU) protocols on elections who are the legal custodians and responsible bodies of these protocols in any electoral challenges.

Above all this, we invoke public interest, and human morals – public interest to the Zimbabwean people locally and also as a matter of public interest to the international community;

We declare that as is reflected, there is no government in Zimbabwe, either awaiting or constituted in Zimbabwe at the present moment. We show cause with undeniable evidence that there is a criminal regime at present acting with impunity as state actors and harassing innocent citizens who are denied their fundamental rights as citizens to air their grievances . We also want to show cause why we believe that there is a terrorist organisation called ZANU PF running Zimbabwe illegitimately under military dictatorship since the ouster of the former president Robert Mugabe in a coup de tat in November 2017 . The same have of late captured the executive and interfered with the judiciary matters i.e courts of Zimbabwe. Their heavy handedness is in dealing with the voices of dissent cannot be ignored by the international community.

This is the group which began killing people on Wednesday the 1st August 2018, and have continued to terrorise our communities and at worst denying any responsibility of their actions but instead blaming the opposition. The list of continued terrorism is hereby noted.

We declare that ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa by declaring himself Zimbabwe’s Supreme Court Judge who will rule and rule while people who oppose him continue suffering under his scorched earth policies, has revealed that he possesses extra judicial powers to interfere with judicial verdicts, as was seen with the Tendai Biti case for public violence. We further deplore the actions of the Zambian gvt to ignore a court order and this is nevertheless a surprising trend in African politics that the governments meddle in judicial verdicts.

As a result of this sham election and massive electoral theft by ZANU-PF, facts are more than clear that Emmerson Mnangagwa has not only violated the Constitution of Zimbabwe but he is in blatant disregard and flagrant breach of the citizens’ fundamental rights and his contempt of court displays the kind of tyranny that has gripped the nation as whole.

We declare that Zimbabwe has fallen into the abyss of a failed and pariah state and we urge the international community not to pay lip service to the problems affecting our country but action must be taken to bring those responsible for the human rights abuses and those defying the rule of law to be identified and punished. It is unfortunate that our country Zimbabwe has fallen prey to a person and a party that is in perpetual violation of the constitution and frustrating the wishes of the majority.

This declaration is backed by millions of Zimbabweans who are in the diaspora and eager to see change and have their voices heard backed by millions who are suffering locally.

This declaration is made by the nearly 6 million Zimbabweans who are based in the diaspora who are not necessarily affiliated to Nelson Chamisa(many who are Emmerson Mnangagwa’s own supporters), but are Zimbabweans acting on legal, constitutional, moral and public interest grounds.

This declaration is made today on the ….
