VIDEO: Hwange Town Up For Sale

Hwange Colliery Company Limited (HCCL)’s woes persist, with numerous teething problems affecting productivity and the plight of workers and their family far from being resolved.

The company now wants to sell Hwange town for $300 million to among other things offset a $70 million debt it owes to employees in salary arrears dating back to 5 years.

This emerged as the company’s board appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy this afternoon.

As the crisis continues unabated, women and children of the stranded workers who are now forced to work two week shifts, are the worst affected and Parliament is not impressed with the obtaining situation, calling for a lasting solution.

HCCL Chairperson for the Technical Committee, Mrs Ntombizodwa Masuku told parliament that they currently require $500 million dollars capital injection to pay off debts and have put on the table an option to sale off the town for $300 million.- State Media

CASUALTIES OF ZANU PF PRIMARY ELECTIONS: EXPLORATION OF THE NEXUS

Compiled By: Nyahunda Struggle Desire” (gardamel karma)

Several myths and assumptions are being postulated from rank and file, print and electronic media, social platforms and in all the gatherings pertaining the recently held Zanu Pf primary elections and their ultimate casualties. This presentation will give an analysis on the electoral processes and their consequences to both Zanu Pf and the country, as well as digging in the near future in regard to the Post Mugabe era in Zimbabwe.

*PRIMARY ELECTIONS*

These are elections which are conducted ahead of each general election in every political entity to choose party represantives who will then represent their respective parties. These are very critical internal elections and are conducted according to the set guidelines, rules and regulations. For one to qualify to contest in any election, he/ she must go through a thorough vetting done by the organs of a political party. Most political parties require a minimum of 5 years experience in a respective organ of the party to qualify or be regarded as a bona fide party member. This is usually done to guard against infiltration and and voting members who will betray the organisation. Therefore, a committees are set up to deal with such issues at the same time guarding against vendettas aimed at pursuing personal agendas.

*WHO WAS SUPPOSED TO QUALIFY TO CONTEST IN ZANU PF PRIMARIES*

For a councillor, a member was supposed to have served at branch level or be in party structures at cell level for at least 5 years. This means everyone was eligible to contest because cell registers in Zanu Pf are structured from the traditional villages(kraalheards) lists or all members under a certain village head. Many people in Zimbabwe rural villages submit their names to the village heads or attend these cell meetings in order to receive inputs, food aid, and to save face from abuse by political actors. Only a few members known to be opposition activists are delisted from these registers. So for Zanu Pf to regard those members at cell level as their bona fide members was an error of commission. Actual or bona fide members are those members at a certain level of leadership above cell level say a branch or district level.

Secondly, for one to contest as a Member of Parliament, one was supposed to have served at district level for at least 5 years. This means even though a member would have been at district level but without 5 years, that member was supposed to be disqualified. Initially, the circular was calling only those who had served at least 5 years at provincial level but then revised this clause. There might be reasons which led to such changes, for sure internal fighting not be ruled out.

Thirdly, for one to be a Senator, Provincial Councillor, Proportional Representation Mp, one was supposed to have served the party at least at provincial level for 5 years and above. Then the Provincial Executive Committees were seized by the daunting task to go through the vetting process following the above template and lets jump to the next topic.

*WAS THE TEMPLATE FOLLOWED?*

Political expediency was at play at every level of the party and vetting was choreographed to the chore. Selfish and personal interests were at the forefront. Vengeful and vindictive retribution played a bigger role. Some wanted to impose their friends, relatives, girlfriends, boyfriends, puppets despite not meeting the criteria. The Zanu Pf legal department for the first wanted to respect the Zimbabwe Constitution by barring all civil servants from taking part in the political institutions and this was commendable. However, the issue was quashed despite agreeing that Zanu Pf breached the constitution for a long time by allowing teachers and government officials to hold posts of councillors and party positions. This has seen several teachers participating actively in the political institutions. We witnessed a number of civil servants disqualified from contesting but were only cleared at National level by the Commissariat. This then boggles the mind whether the new dispensation was sincere enough in their bid to restore legacy when they reduced the constitution to rags just under their noses. This being done by a man who claims was mediating between the party Zanu Pf and army Engelbert Rugeje during ORL, it soiled the image of what they called legacy because he repeated the same mistake of the previous regime. Members who joined Zanu Pf only in Nov 2017 were cleared to take part, members from different political parties were allowed to contest. Members linked to the deposed G40 and Gamatox cabal were allowed to contest. Criminals with known records were allowed to contest. This showed how desperate and naive was the Commissariat department. Politics led the institutional processes and factionalism reigned in the whole process. From an academic standpoint, Zanu Pf failed to uphold its political processes because it is in a catch 22 situation. They don’t know who is with them and who is not.

*POSSIBLE REASONS WHY TOM AND DICK WAS ALLOWED TO CONTEST*

a). Zanu Pf structures are compromised from cell upwards and the commissariat department was not even able to see the difference between a member and non member probably because all structures are compiled in offices

b). Lacoste diehards are unelectable and are very unpopular with the grassroots hence opening doors for new players in an attempt to bail Zanu Pf

c). Probably someone wanted to set up his or her team aligned to him in what many think tanks agree that succession bomb is looming

d). The team from the army is out of touch with the grassroots and all structures are in control of the Lacoste diehards and war veterans. They therefore wanted to set up their team taking advantage of controlling the political process.

e). The different groups are drawing battle lines against each other setting the stage for a bruising fight in the near future. All controversial figures were created by a person who was in control of the political process probably with a future agenda.

f). After realising how Gamatox and G40 are tormenting the party, someone wanted to bail Zanu Pf from humiliation by seeking help from the enemy to fight an internal war.

g). Impeachment motion likely to be tabled soon after the polls in he event that Zanu Pf win the polls. This is probably because the Mps will be controlled by a certain section in the rank and file and parliament can be easily used to fight the sitting President.

h). Commissariat or a certain faction in Zanu Pf knows majority of those who were cleared and planned to win elections are not in god books with ED and Lacoste diehards. A certain faction which is emerging as the Savior to the disgruntled members and those who were linked to Dr Mujuru and Dr Mugabe will never like or dip in the same plate with ED.

i). Putting a mask facade of benevolence on the general citizens that probably a new dispensation is at hand whilst all the old guard will be determining political and government processes. Zanu Pf will never separate party and government business hence the Politburo and Central Committee is a defacto and dejure parliament and Senate respectively crafting government policies. Those Mps in parliament are only but puppets and as long as the clause to recall an Mp if he or she detours from party line is there, parliament will remain a circus under Zanu Pf.

*CONDUCTION OF PRIMARY ELECTIONS*

The commissariat totally failed to run the elections. Despite demanding hefty amounts of money from aspiring candidates, the ballot papers had no candidates faces, some names were missing whether by omission or commission. Cell registers were shambolic with some candidates failing to vote because their names were disenfranchised. Commissariat had time to put these registers in order since December but they were only busy singing Zimbabwe is open for business mantra following ED to gatherings without anything to do with the party.

They failed to exorcise the ghost of Mugabe which is probably haunting them day and night. They failed to release ED to go around meeting the people maybe assuming because they put tankers around a sitting president, people will just follow them. They failed to copy from MDC ALLIANCE organising committee which moved round the country introducing Chamisa to the people following the departure of Dr MRT and the move proved to have worked well. Although internal sources claimed the commissariat fear to spoil the meal by organising early rallies without good homework because the party is ailing and fractured to the core, this is yet to be proved

Although they managed to organise joint campaign rallies, they failed to stop vote buying instigated by criminals who looted government funds. Despite all videos on all social media testifying massive vote buying, no action was taken. This must worry opposition because even the fraudsters who were on the list of externalising funds were cleared to contest in the general elections.

Voters were disenfranchised and votes went on. Violence was rampant and nothing was done. The abuse of state apparatus who were presiding officers compromised the whole process and puts the name of security departments in disrepute. Opposition must be worried with the man leading commissariat who is not even a government official but went on to give orders to police force to deploy its members without knowledge of the highest office! This must worry Zimbabweans and never trust the hierarchy presiding over our precious country as Mukadota circus.

The numbers which voted in these elections are a testimony that the process was chaotic. Some claim nearly 900 000 voted, as an academic i want to dispute this. What of the ballot papers which were stuffed in Harare, Midlands, Mash West, Bulawayo and Masvingo. The fact that some who were presiding over the elections were biased compromised the whole process. Some candidates were given the ballots prior to voting and they were infringed them after bribery of polling officers. The voting process which took 3 days to end must not only be shameful but laughable. Who was guarding the ballot boxes at night? Were the agents able to spend 3 days without rest watching the ballot boxes? After all the card boxes, buckets and cooler boxes were used as ballot boxes. What a shame? At some polling stations the voters were given ballot papers and would go with them to seven days beer then came back to cast! All this in an election by the ruling party and its leadership claim the process was democratic! This must worry opposition.

Some agents were chased away from polling stations to allow rigging to take place, some were ferrying voters on the election day to polling stations, there was non system to guard against double voting. Goodies were distributed at polling stations by some candidates. Some candidates were assisting the voters. Some candidates declared their constituencies no go areas and village heads were ordered to go with their people to vote and make sure the sitting Mp wins or risk losing food aid if he wins. This happening in an internal poll must worry all international actors and opposition parties.

The delay in instituting electoral reforms must be an indicator that all is not well with this dispensation.

*DEFEAT OF BIGWIGS: MUTSVANGWA etal*

There are various theories surrounding the electoral defeat of Zanu Pf bigwigs in the elections and this writer will dwell solely on few assumptions.

1. The voters wanted to give ED a signal that him and his cabal’s time is up

2. G40 and Gamatox is still a factor in Zanu Pf and teaching a lesson to all close associates of ED is a clear testimony.

3. The Lacoste diehards are unelectable. They were politically defeated by Jonathan Moyo and Dr Mugabe until they unleashed tankers against Mugabe in what most call a coup

4. Old people must take back seat and must no longer dictate pace of future generation because they represent a yesterday generation, ED included

5. Their defeat was choreographed and stage managed to make sure the commissariat silence and neutralise them.

6. These people messed up with the people in previous years and people no longer want them.

6. Opposition voted for weak candidates in these elections to make sure they dumb them in general elections.

7). Revolutionary parties die with their founders as reiterated by Amiclar Cabral and Ali Mazrui

8). God’s plan to set war between war veterans and army elements which is a determining factor in the demise of ZANU PF.

*2018 ELECTIONS*

The way the ZANU PF conducted its primary elections as the ruling party signifies that free and fair election is still a myth. If ZANU PF members were pointing guns against their fellow comrades, what would stop them from perpetrating violence?

It seems the Zanu Pf commissariat though confused was testing murky waters of the sea on how they would implement their rigging plans and strategies.

Chasing of agents of other political players must be guarded and countered by opposition. At one of the polling station in Bikita, the number of people who voted against the votes received did not tally. It must be noted that the police, soldiers and prison workers who were in civilian clothes went through a rigorous training on these internal polls and they will also be participating in general elections.

People are scoffing at Christopher Vivendi Mutsvangwa when he is lambasting the police of having a hand in his defeat. Instead of asking how, people are being carried away. Remember Mutsvangwa is the special advisor to the President and he knows what they planned foe these general elections.

There are other professional police officers though but why is Mutsvangwa lambasting the police? This must tell you a hidden something. Timeously, ED issued a presser condemning abuse of police in these elections showing that he was in agreement with Mutsvangwa. The same day, Zec Chairperson Chigumba lambasted the police again for rigging elections in previous elections by relaying fake figures to command centres. She outlined their roles of which this tells us why results from polling stations were not tallying with those at command centres. *ONE RIGGING TACTIC UNEARTHED BY MUTSVANGWA AND CHIGUMBA*

I think Mutsvangwa need to be given ample time to explain how police rig elections than mocking him.

I leave it here!!!!!

Zhuwao Attacks Kasukuwere, Says He’s Now Lacoste

President Robert Mugabe’s nephew, Patrick Zhuwao has alleged that his colleague Saviour Kasukuwere is now a Lacoste.

Zhuwao made these allegations  in his latest opinion analysis issue ZBR. Below is the full text:

Reports are coming through that the military Junta is incubating the establishment of a copy-cat to the National Patriotic Front (NPF) to be called the ZNPF in an effort to derail the real NPF. The reports indicate that this copy-cat WPF junta project will seek to hijack the membership of the real NPF and subsume them under the leadership of Saviour Kasukuwere. Kasukuwere has been reported at some meetings of the real NPF as either having arrived in Zimbabwe or as being on the verge of landing in Zimbabwe in an effort to tie his supposed leadership of the copy-cat ZNPF junta project with the real NPF.

This ZBR is being written for the express purpose of putting on the record that I, as Patrick Zhuwao, am not part of Kasulcuwere’s current political shenanigans and manoeuvring. To be more specific, I do not support nor subscribe to the notion that Kasukuwere should lead the real NPF. Having politically interacted with Kasukuwere since joining the ZANU PF Youth League’s National Executive over one and a half decades ago, I am not convinced that he is an appropriate person to lead the real NPF.

Furthermore, the founders of the NPF, of which Kasukuwere is not one, have categorically stated that Professor Jonathan Moyo, Honourable Saviour Kasukuwere and Honourable Patrick Zhuwao should not form part of the founding leadership of NPF. As a co-founder of NPF, I fully associate myself with that position and have indicated as much in previous instalments of the ZBR and privately to Kasukuwere himself.

Some of the reasons for my taking such a position include the fact that Kasukuwere has been actively discouraging efforts towards the establishment of the real NPF up to a point where I stopped engaging him on the progress of that endeavour. Kasukuwere’s interactions with the military junta at its highest levels have also made it inconceivable for him to play a significant role in the real NPF, let alone lead it, since the real NPF was established to dismantle the junta.

Kasukuwere’s dogged determination to return to a Zimbabwe that is under the yoke of the military junta has also left me questioning his motives. The only way in which someone walks into a dangerously fatally situation is if they have been given assurances for their safety. Given the threat that the real NPF poses to the military junta, it is conceivable that such a guarantee can only have been secured by way of a commitment to derail the real NPF. This is why I am taking seriously the reports of a copy-cat ZNPF under the leadership of Kasukuwere as a junta project to derail the real NPF.

As a co-founder of the real NPF, it is important that I articulate my position publicly to all Zimbabweans so that it is abundantly clear that the real NPF can NEVER be a junta project. I will never support the copy-cat ZNPF junta project because its principle objective is to derail the efforts of the real NPF towards dismantling the military junta in control of Zimbabwe.

The real NPF was formed, partly, to provide a political home for those orphaned by the military takeover of ZANU PF and not as a means for the self–aggrandisement of those with unbridled political ambitions. The real NPF stands for the broad based socio-economic transformation of all Zimbabweans in an inclusive and collective manner in accordance to the maxim encapsulated in the slogan: Iwe neni tine basa. Umsebenzi loUmkhulu

Asante Sana.

I Dedicate My Victory To Almighty God- Zanu PF MP

Terrence Mawawa, Mawawa

While many people in and out the country associate the ruling party Zanu PF with thuggery, violence and vandalism, Benjamin Taguma Mazarire who is vying for the Masvingo Urban Constituency Parliamentary Seat believes the new dispensation has brought a paradigm shift.

Mazarire won the Masvingo Urban primary polls against the odds after beating his fancied rivals Eddison Zvobgo Junior and Goddard Dunira.

“I am a devout Christian and I dedicate my victory to the Almighty God.

I am very active in the work of God and that is the secret behind my success,” said the soft spoken Mazarire.

Mazarire is likely to face MDC’ s Takanayi Mureyi in the unpredictable Masvingo Urban Parliamentary plebiscite.

We will soon witness an escalation of drug abuse and addiction at an alarming rate in churches and communities, ” he said.

Welshman Ncube Not Holding Primaries, Standing Committee Decides Candidates

Professor Welshman Ncube

By A Correspondent|The Welshman Ncube led MDC will not be holding any primary elections to decide any of its candidates senior sources within the party revealed to ZimEye.com.

“Following chaotic scenes seen at the on going ZANU PF Primary Elections the party has opted not to carry out primary elections but will use boardroom decisions to decide the candidates,” said the senior official.

The official told ZimEye.com that the party was very fortunate in that in almost all the thirty four constituencies seconded to the party there was no need to get to primary elections stage except in the Gwanda Constituency where two candidates could not reach a compromise.

“I can put it on record that all our seats did not need to go for primary elections except in Gwanda where two strong candidates could not reach a compromise and the National Standing Committee had to make a decision on who to represent the party,” said the official.

“The National Standing Committee set on Saturday and decided that former member of parliament for Gwanda Patrick Dube be given another chance to contest the election ahead of Alderman Japhet Mkwanazi who has been a councillor at the Municipality of Gwanda,” he said.

“Councillor Mkwanazi will go back to wrestle his ward while Dube will square up with radio personality Umpile Marupi who recently defeated Minister Abednico Ncube at the ZANU PF primary elections for the Gwanda seat,” said the official who preferred not to be mentioned.

The official further indicated that the party is in the process o finalising council candidates from applications that were submitted while proportional representation candidates will be seconded by the National Standing Committee.

“By next week the local government candidates will be known and similar processes will be used to determine the final candidates,” he said.

“Senatorial and Women Proportional Representation candidates will be decided by the national standing committee,” he said.

The party will be contesting in thirty four constituencies under the banner of the MDC Alliance with Nelson Chamisa as it’s presidential candidate.

Meanwhile, another opposition political party Zimbabwe First has confirmed that it is also concluding its candidates selection process in all constituencies around the country.

Party Elections Director Kesari Chibika told ZimEye.com that the party is in the process of giving aspiring candidates a chance to reach a consensus where there is more than one candidate before holding primary elections.

“So far we have covered all the provinces,” he said.

“Our process is primarily based on asking members to step forward and serve, if there is more than one person stepping forward we ask them to agree between themselves on who the best candidate is,” he said.

“If they fail to agree we will conduct primary elections . So far the process is going on smoothly and there has been no need for a primary.”

Chibika said that the party candidates are mainly university students with a mixture of experienced politicians.

Iranian Women Wear Fake Beard To Sneak Into Soccer Match

The Iranian Women in disguise at a soccer stadium on Friday.

By Paul Nyathi| A group of Iranian women have defied the laws of their land by wearing fake beards and dressing as men in order to watch a soccer match from inside the Azadi Stadium in Tehran.

In Iran, women are not officially banned from attending games, but they are usually refused entry. In March, 35 women were detained for trying to attend a game at Azadi Stadium. However, a group of fearless Iranian women are pushing back by dressing as men to gain entrance.

A video of an Iranian female soccer fan has gone viral after she disguised herself as a man to enter a Tehran soccer stadium last Friday. The woman and her friends wore fake beards and wigs to see Persepolis play Sepidrood at Azadi Stadium.

One of the women told the BBC News that security did not figure out they were wearing disguises, but people in the stands did. Another woman said that it was the third time she attended a game while wearing a disguise.

Men also accompanied the women to assure their safety. Some fans even came over to take selfies with the women at their seats.

Mnangagwa Stole Chamisa’s Ideas Into ZANU PF Manifesto

President Emmerson Mnangagwa launches ZANU PF Manifesto

By A Correspondent|MDC Alliance’s overwhelming support countrywide has frightened Zanu PF to the extent of it having to literally steal and smuggle the Alliance program of action for a better Zimbabwe into its election manifesto.

The Alliance national spokesperson, Professor Welshman Ncube on Sunday said when the Alliance presidential candidate Advocate Nelson Chamisa began highlighting the need for modern transport infrastructure such as the bullet trains and spaghetti roads, Zanu PF labeled him as being crazy. However, on Friday last week, Zanu PF unveiled its manifesto which to the surprise of many was littered with the very same MDC Alliance program of action.

“Chamisa has been saying it was possible for Zimbabwe to have bullet trains and ‘spaghetti roads’ but Zanu PF said he was mad” said Professor Ncube while addressing thousands of supporters at an Alliance rally at eSiganda in Bubi district.
“But did you see their manifesto; Mnangagwa has literally copied Chamisa’s concepts. They just cannot ignore him” said Professor Ncube to thunderous applause.

“In a class room scenario, you cannot copy from a dull classmate, you target the best and that is what Mnangagwa has done” .

Professor Ncube chronicled Zanu PF’s fake 2013 election pledges warning people not to fall in the same trap by voting for it in the forthcoming elections.
“In 2013, they (Zanu PF) dished out tea-pots and torches and you voted for them. They promised 2.3 million jobs and who among you managed to secure a job?” he asked.
“They further promised to construct at least two clinics per district but that never happened.
The spoke of bringing in $15 billion through indigenization programs but instead they stole $15 billion,” said Professor Ncube.

“All of their promises were not fulfilled and it is important to vote them out this year because they are not doing what they said. This is the time to boot them out,” added the MDC President.

Professor Ncube stressed that Chamisa, whom he described as an energetic and capable leader was the ‘man to win us the election”.
He said the Alliance was the only solution for Zimbabweans to get rid of the bundling Zanu PF.

Confirmed MDC-T Finalising Coalition Talks With Mujuru

Thokozani Khupe pictured with Joice Mujuru

By Paul Nyathi|Highly reliable sources have revealed to ZimEye.com that the Thokozani Khupe MDC-T is nearing finalisation in a coalition agreement with the Joice Mujuru People’s Rainbow Coalition.

The sources indicated that Mujuru and Khupe had a “fruitful meeting” in Bulawayo where the two agreed in principle to have Khupe’s MDC-T join the coalition.

According to the sources, all the grey areas in the deliberations were ironed out and Khupe will be revealed as a PRC partner in the next few weeks.

Included in the coalition is the Welshman Ncube led MDC former Secretary-General Priscilla Misihairabwi Mushonga who is reported to be holding a key position in the negotiations and joins the coalition as an individual.

The women leaders, who all fell out of favour with their previous political parties claim to be victims of gender discrimination in the parties.

The sources said both leaders were worried that their support base as individual parties was not sufficient to carry a majority vote, while Mujuru was concerned that her People’s Rainbow Coalition had not generated excitement ahead of the polls.

“The leaders met during thye women electoral convergence [summit] in Bulawayo and together with PDP’s Lucia Matibenga agreed in principle that an alliance ahead of the polls would be critical, however, the sticking point is on who will lead the alliance,” the source said.

Coltart: Chamisa Is Truly Meeting Queen Elizabeth’s Govt Officials

MDC Alliance member, David Coltart has confirmed that his Alliance boss, Nelson Chamisa is truly meeting Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s government officials in the UK. Below was the full text:

By David Coltart| Today (Sunday) I leave for the UK to join MDC Alliance Presidential candidate Nelson Chamisa and Tendai Biti for a series of meetings this week with British Government leaders, opposition leaders and officials. We will also be meeting journalists from the Economist, Financial Times, Spectator, Evening Standard and other leading British newspapers. Nelson Chamisa will also be speaking at Oxford University and Chatham House.

It is a great honour for me to have been invited to join Nelson Chamisa on this trip. I am absolutely delighted that once again I am working with my old comrades who have been in the trenches with me since the MDC was formed on the 11th September 1999. In fact the MDC Alliance is in essence the resurrection of the original MDC – read up on the original interim leadership and you will see what I mean.

The main purpose of the week will be to promote British investment in Zimbabwe in a new era under an MDC Alliance government. We will explain that the fundamental difference between the MDC Alliance and ZANU PF is that we, unlike ZANU PF, will implement Zimbabwe’s new Constitution in full – in letter and spirit – and that we will respect the rule of law.

For all ZANU PF’s rhetoric about Zimbabwe being “open for business” the one thing they have never learnt in 38 years of misrule is that the single most important factor in any investor’s decision to invest in a foreign country is security of the investment. If an investor feels that the rules will change, or that a dispute will come before a biased, political judge, or that permits will have to be obtained through bribery, the investor will simply look elsewhere. That is why just this week SA President Cyril Ramaphosa at the Africa/Japan Investment summit, stressed that South Africa’s judiciary is independent and that his Government totally respects South Africa’s Constitution. He gets it.

Sadly ZANU PF doesn’t – including President Mnangagwa’s government. This is not just about ZANU PF under Robert Mugabe. Since Emmerson Mnangagwa came to power in November the Constitution has been systematically breached – General Chiwenga’s appointment as VP and being in charge of Defence is unconstitutional, as are the appointment of Resident Ministers, the failure to open up the ZBC, Herald and Chronicle and a raft of other actions. Our judiciary remains seriously compromised – and rather than implement the Constitution it is none other than President Mnangagwa who in recent times tried to amend the Constitution to further undermine the independence of the judiciary, by reducing the powers of the Judicial Services Commission in selecting the Chief Justice.

In contrast the MDC Alliance, which after all has been the main driver of the new Constitution agreed to by Zimbabweans in 2013, will respect and implement the Constitution in all its fullness. And that is the one fundamental difference between the MDC Alliance and not just ZANU PF, but all the other major parties contesting the election. Without Morgan Tsvangirai, Nelson Chamisa, Jessie Fungayi Majome Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, Douglas Mwonzora and many other MDC leaders there would never have been a new democratic Constitution. That is a hard fact.

So we will be telling the British Government and investors that British investment will be secure under an MDC Alliance government. We will also remind them that when the MDC had just a small amount of influence in government between 2009 and 2013 the economy grew dramatically, hospitals reopened, children went back to school and a new democratic Constitution was written and accepted by millions of Zimbabweans.

In other words these are not empty promises, or mere rhetoric – we have a demonstrable track record. If we grasp the full reigns of government Zimbabwe will boom.

God bless Zimbabwe.

Chamisa Gets UK Police Escort Out Of Rally

The crowds as they swelled
Chamisa being assisted out of the venue

By Paul Nyathi|MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa had to be escorted out of the venue of his United Kingdom rally in Bedford on Sunday as the hundreds of Zimbabweans would not let go of him.

Video footage at the scene ZimEye reveals Monday morning shows the dramatic moments when the man was mobbed and had to get Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth’s cops to assist him out of the venue.

In his Facebook post on Monday morning, Chamisa thanked the thousand Zimbabweans who thronged the rally from all over the United Kingdom for attending the hurriedly organised rally.

“UK Rally Massive & Impressive…Thank you Cdes & friends in the UK,” wrote Chamisa.

“I am humbled by the number of Zimbabweans who attended our Bedford UK rally. The entire area was packed!Cars were all over.Parking ran out.

“When I arrived I thought there was some Man U match but alas it was just Zimbabweans yearning for a soon coming new dawn.

“The British police had to be called in to escort us out of the venue coz the people couldn’t let us leave the venue out of genuine love.People kept on demanding more!!”

Gun Carrying Dexter Nduna Clashes With Edna Madzongwe In Chegutu

Senate President Edna Madzongwe

By Paul Nyathi| ZANU PF supporters backing under arrest Parliamentarian Dexter Nduna have demonstrated at the party’s offices in Chegutu demanding for Senate President Edna Madzongwe to leave the constituency.

Scores of party supporters besieged the party offices on Sunday denouncing Madzongwe for recommending that the constituency undergoes a rerun of the primary election which was held last week.

The party members protested for over three hours in the town claiming that they will not take part in the rerun of the election which was ordered by the party politburo.

Speaking to journalists on the sidelines of the demonstrations, the ZANU PF members blamed Madzongwe for attempting to disqualify Nduna for a candidate who she favoured.

“The demonstration is to send a message to the president to get Edna Madzongwe out of the constituency as she is causing serious confusion and clashes in the constituency,” said a member.

The members claim that the politburo erred in calling for the rerun of the primary election which was marred with violence that resulted in Nduna firing live ammunition in public leading to him being arrested.

The members claim that Nduna won the elections fairly in all the other fourteen wards of the constituency except for ward 15 where the violence took place after supporters backing some losing candidates disturbed the voting process.

“Nduna won the elections overwhelmingly and fairly in all the wards and had to use his authority to try and put order in ward 15 when Madzongwe led a group of people to disrupt the election process,” said one of the protesters.

Commenting on the matter, Madzongwe said that she had nothing against Nduna neither is she favouring a candidate over another.

“I have nothing against Nduna and I am not backing any candidate,” she said.

Senate President Madzongwe withdrew from the Chegutu Senate race, leaving Anna Guhwa and Lydia Tsomondo to fight it out.

Dexter Nduna appeared in court on Friday and was released on bail on two counts of public violence and for discharging a firearm in a public place.

Some ZANU PF supporters are already calling on the party to disqualify him from the primary elections on allegations that he is under arrest and going through the courts on a criminal case.

The matter is being considered by the party’s own electoral commission.

Chamisa MDC Postpones Primaries

MDC-T leader, Nelson Chamisa’s party has reportedly postponed primary elections.

A latest report says this is to allow constituencies with more than one candidate to reach a consensus on who is to go ahead.

The party’s late leader, Morgan Tsvangirai last year cancelled primaries for constituencies with sitting candidates, a development that later led to sitting MPs being made to pay fees of $1,000 each this year.

That requirement later led to confusion when it was later announced that primaries would still be held in those same constituencies.

In the latest development a senior source is quoted saying primary elections initially slated for Friday last week will now commence on 17 May. But the primaries will begin with the announcement of approved candidates today after which candidates will be encouraged to reach a consensus so that where people agree, primary elections can be avoided.

MDC-T secretary for elections, Murisi Zwizwai, is quoted by Newsday confirming that the party will announce its list of approved candidates today with dates and logistics for the polls. Zwizwai said, “we are going to announce that list tomorrow at Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House and at that Press conference, all the issues will be addressed. We have a road map and what is going to be done. The date and the logistics will be announced tomorrow (today).”

CHAMISA vs ED: Mnangagwa Starts Own Rallies

By Dorrothy Moyo| At a time when it was said that Emmerson Mnangagwa does not campaign using public meetings, the President has launched his own rallies.

This comes after his oppponent Nelson Chamisa has been conducting rallies around the country and was noted for his unpresented charismatic meetings.

Mnangagwa has revealed that he will now travel around the country to meet people and unpack his programmes.

Mnangagwa on Friday digitally published saying, “the (party) manifesto outlines our vision for the new Zimbabwe and the practical steps of how we will turn this vision into a reality. Over the next few months, I will be travelling around the country meeting my fellow Zimbabweans, and explaining our programme to all.”

Horror As Woman is Swept Away In River While In Ritual

A “RITUAL” bath in the flooded Zambezi River nearly ended in tragedy for a 29-year-old Victoria Falls woman after she was swept away by its rising tide.

Rangers from the Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority and her boyfriend Mr Khumbulani Msebele (32) used a rope to reach for her.

Sources told tye state media that Ms Dube was with her cousin, Ms Silence Siziba (36), of House Number 2002 Nketa 8 in Bulawayo.

The two were allegedly bathing in the Zambezi River where scores of people usually go to perform rituals in the water.

Police officer commanding Victoria Falls District Chief Superintendent Tadeus Madondo confirmed receiving a report about the near-tragic incident which occurred last Wednesday near the Big Tree, about 200 metres upstream the VIP entrance to the Rainforest.
“I can confirm that we got a report about a woman, Yvonne Dube of Chinotimba who lost her balance while bathing and was swept by the river for about 200 metres while bathing with her cousin Silence Siziba,” said Chief Supt Madondo.
He said the two had gone for a tour of the river when they decided to bath.
While bathing, Chief Supt Madondo said, Ms Dube slipped and fell into the water and was swept towards the gorge.

She was lucky as she survived attack by the crocodiles as well as being washed down the 200 metre deep gorge.

“She clung onto a tree after the water pushed her to the bank,” said Chief Supt Madondo.
He said Ms Siziba rushed to the Rainforest exit gate about 500 metres away where she alerted rangers who swiftly reacted to rescue Ms Dube.

Ms Dube’s boyfriend Mr Msebele who sells curios at the Rainforest joined the rescue team.
It’s not clear whether he was with the two women at the river.
Chief Supt Madondo said Ms Dube sustained bruises all over the body and was taken to Victoria Falls District Hospital.

“My advice to people is that they should not to play near the river as there are crocodiles and they can also drown. Members of the public should be accompanied by tour guides,” he said. – stare media

Mnangagwa Flies Off To Qatar

President Emmerson Mnangagwa left Harare yesterday for Qatar as he continues his diplomatic blitz that is part of his administration’s campaign to reach out to the global community.

He is being accompanied by Finance and Economic Development Minister Patrick Chinamasa, Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Lieutenant-General Sibusiso Moyo (Rtd), Lands, Agriculture and Rural Resettlement, Air Chief Marshal Perrance Shiri (Rtd) and Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor Dr John Mangudya.
The President was seen off at Robert Mugabe International Airport by Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, senior Government officials and service chiefs. Qatar is one of the richest countries in the world. A few weeks ago, the leader of Qatar Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani sent a special envoy to President Mnangagwa inviting him to visit the Middle East nation. It is anticipated that President Mnangagwa’s interface with Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, who leads a country with one of the world’s best living standards will spiral seminal benefits for Zimbabweans.

Economic discussions between the two countries are expected to centre around Qatar’s thrust for a post-oil economic agenda that may unlock opportunities for Zimbabwe in sectors such as agriculture, mining, tourism and infrastructure development. In an interview on Friday, Lt-Gen Moyo said the visit to Qatar was a response to the invitation by His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani.

“Yes I can confirm that the President will be travelling to Qatar next week. This is going to be an Official Visit which is an answer to the invitation by the leader of Qatar. This also ties in with our diplomatic offensive to reach out to the international community.”
According to World Atlas.com, Qatar is the richest country in the world with a per capita income of $124 927.

Although the size of Qatar’s GDP is barely within the top 50 largest in the world, the country’s relatively low population of two million, results in a large GDP per capita, where most residents of the country enjoy a very high standard of living.
In the past few years, engagement between Zimbabwe and Qatar has been enhanced as the Middle East country is seeking cooperation in sectors where Zimbabwe has a comparative advantage.
There are plans to lure Qatar Airways to introduce direct flights into Harare, which bodes well for trade between the two nations. – state media

Chamisa Drew More Than A Thousand UK Zimbabweans In 24Hr Short Notice – Expert Witness

Own Correspondent| Expert testimonials from a head counting software shows that MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa pulled a crowd of more than 1,000 people in less than a day’s planning, after many had been discouraged having been told the event was cancelled.

The event venue owners of the Pavenham Village Hall told ZimEye they announced to the public that the event was cancelled. “The function has been cancelled because we cannot hold the crowds, the property’s’s chairman told ZimEye via Phone on Saturday night.

MDC leaders then afterwards rushed around and managed to organise a new venue and the announcement was done in the space of just a few hours Saturday night.

As a result the numbers were not as expected.

But in the same chaos the MDC leader managed to pull a large crowd, the first ever Zimbabwe political crowd in more than 5 years in the UK

Commenting on the numbers, IT expert Mr Henry Chari said his head counting software estimates that more than 1,000 people attended.

Mr Chari said, “I did get some footage from UK rally by Nelson Chamisa. I ran then them through my software tool that I call Crowdeta 1.0, although the pictures were not of good quality I can say with about 95% confidence that at least 1000 people attended. Thats is a huge feat! MDC Zimbabwe.” SEE PICTURES:

Agonising Loss For Highlanders

Dejected Ariel Sibanda

By Paul Nyathi|Two school boy blunders by erratic Highlanders goalkeeper Arial Sibanda handed the impressive youthful Bulawayo side an undeserved loss to an unimpressive ZPC Kariba at Barbourfields Stadium on Sunday.

Going into the break with a deserved one goal lead and pinning the power utility side from Kariba in their own half, Sibanda spilled a harmless looking ball into the path of a ZPC Kariba player who blasted the free gift home in the 58th minute.

Highlanders went on an intensive search for a winner in the closing stages of the match and Sibanda got carried away and joined into the attack leaving the goal posts unattended.

Very much against the run of play, a ZPC Kariba player spotted Sibanda off guard and lobbed the ball just after the centre line into an empty net with just a minute of play left to hand the high flying Bulawayo side their second defeat of the season.

The huge contingent of Highlanders fans immediately trickled out of the stadium in huge agony.

The Bosso fans only got a an undue rivalry consolation that bitter rivals Dynamos lost yet again, by the same scoreline, in Harare in the Capital City derby against Harare City.

Man Robs Same Bank Day After Release From Prison

A man in the US state of Ohio is accused of robbing a bank one day after being released from prison for robbing the very same bank two years earlier, US prosecutors said Wednesday.

Markiko Sonnie Lewis allegedly robbed the small bank branch in the Midwestern city of Cleveland on April 12, on his first full day of freedom and while on parole for his earlier crime.

The 40-year-old is now facing a federal criminal indictment accusing him of robbing a bank teller “by force, violence, and intimidation” — a designation that could make his alleged offense punishable by as much as 20 years in prison.

Lewis is accused of taking approximately $1,044 from the bank, according to the US Attorney’s office, which announced the latest indictment.

Lewis was sentenced to more than two years in prison in 2016, and was subject to three years of probation after his release on April 11, according to the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Corrections.

We Use Mbanje To Exorcise Demons – Traditional Healers

NATIONAL NEWS

NATIONAL NEWS

Terrence Mawawa

Traditional healers have commended the government of the Republic of Zimbabwe for legalising mbanje indicating they use the drug to exorcise demons.

Government’s recent decision to legalise mbanje farming for medical purposes has divided religious leaders.

Under Statutory Instrument 62 of 2018 (Dangerous Drugs – Production of Cannabis for Medicinal and Scientific Use Regulations), Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa legalised the farming of mbanje for scientific and medical purposes.

A Masvingo based traditional healer Sekuru Chivangu welcomed the development saying: “ We have always used the drug to exorcise demons.”

‘Mnangagwa, Chiwenga Mere Fossils’

Terrence Mawawa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantino Chiwenga are mere political fossils, an MDC official has said.

Below is MDC Masvingo Provincial Executive member Stanley Manguma’ s analysis of the current political events:

Fossils in LACOSTE PF will never understand the dreams of
the Young: JF Kennedy, the 43 year old President of
USA was famous for his dream on September 12,
1962.

He said “We choose to go to the moon”. By
that time dreaming to go to the moon was just as
impossible as the fossils like Chiwenga and
Mnagagwa imagining 40 year old Zimbabwean
President-in-waiting Nelson Chamisa dreaming to
have bullet trains for his country.

There is no way any best lecture on
the planet can make these fossils understand the
possibility of JF Kennedy’s dream for his country and
Nelson Chamisa’s dream for Zimbabwe.

These fossils don’t celebrate
birthdays anymore, instead they hold commiseration
ceremonies for their death days.

They are
more worried about when they will die and are
eating like armyworms thinking it will help them live
longer.

They apply ambi and pond’s on their faces
to lighten their skins hoping it will give them more
days on earth.

So talk of complicated future plans
confuses them because they have no future.

They
have a past, the so called “liberation struggle” which
they parrot at every instant.

It’s pathetic and disgusting to note that there are some misguided individuals who think
there is life when fossils continue to rule
Zimbabwe.

ZEC Blocks Known Opposition Supporters From Registering To Vote

Terrence Mawawa

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission is working with state security agents to block known MDC members from registering to vote, the party has claimed.

An MDC Provincial Executive member, Stanley Manguma yesterday claimed hundreds of party supporters were being blocked from registering to vote in a deliberate plot to frustrate the opposition.

“The ZEC registration process has become painfully slow.

We have received numerous complaints.

On Friday one of our members
was given ticket number 88 but he failed to
register, what’s going on at ZEC?

They are
registering less than 100 people per day- is very sad, ” said Manguma.

Zanu PF Manifesto A Damp Squib- Analyst

President Emmerson Mnangagwa

Terrence Mawawa

A respected social media commentator has described the Zanu PF Manifesto as a “damp squib.”

In his Facebook message yesterday Antony Taruvinga claimed President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his ruling party mandarins presented the manifesto merely to cajole the entire nation.

“Zanu PF in its new manifesto promised to build
about 820 houses per day but they have not achieved anything in the past five years.

It is a just
a stupid lie.
Vote Nelson Chamisa for President.
Let’s kick out these old goons,” wrote Taruvinga.

Dube has come hot on former President Robert Mugabe and his successor President Emmerson Mnangagwa telling them to stop being arrogant on the Gukurahundi atrocities of the eighties.

Speaking in a wide ranging interview with the Zimbabwe Independent weekly newspaper, Dube expressed shock at why President Mugabe would deny responsibility for the atrocities that saw the death of over 20 000 people in Matabeleland and parts of the Midlands provinces.

“If he is refusing to accept responsibility, who does he think should shoulder the blame? Dube questioned on Mugabe.

“It is public knowledge that he (Mugabe) was the president, chief executive of the country, and commander-in-chief when those disturbances happened. Whether he likes it or not, Mugabe is the one who should shoulder the blame; all these other people involved were working under him,” said Dube.

The straight talking Dube did not spare incumbent President Emmerson Mnangagwa saying that he was also strongly involved in the execution of the atrocities and should apologise to the people of Matabeleland in order to begin finding a closure to the atrocities.

“Even the current president (Mnangagwa) was also there, although I cannot say he was fully responsible. These are the people who should apologise to the victims on behalf of the government so that this chapter can be closed,” said Dube.

Tshinga Dube castigated President Mnangagwa’s claims that the Gukurahundi issue was a by gone which was concluded at the 1987 Unity Accord between Mugabe and the late former Vice President Joshua Nkomo.

Dube said that the ZANU PF government failed to handle the issue from the onset of the unity accord while Joshua Nkomo was still alive.

“I think the issue was not properly handled in the first place. If you look carefully, it was actually swept under the carpet. When (Joshua) Nkomo, the late vice-president, was still alive this issue could have been addressed entirely. The mistake was that when the Unity Accord was signed in 1987, we all assumed the issue had been addressed,” he said.

“We did not realise at the time we had not addressed critical post-conflict and reconciliation issues. The victims are still there, but they have not been rehabilitated, there hasn’t been truth and reconciliation, let alone justice and reparations. We cannot change the past, but post-conflict societies need rehabilitation of victims and rebuilding.”

Dube said that Gukurahundi can not be an issue to be easily wished off as Mnangagwa hints, because the victims remain with wounds still not healed.

“For you it will not be over because you will still be bitter and you can be bitter until you die. All the parties involved did not look at that issue the way I think they should have.”

“I have always said there is need for what we refer to in Ndebele culture and IsiNdebele as ukukhumisana umlotha; traditional ritual of coming together to bury the hatchet after proper apologies have been made following a hurtful conflict or such a problem. Once that is done, we then agree as a people or nation that it’s done; the chapter is closed. We have seen that happening in other countries. But we have not had that in Zimbabwe. What we have had here are people who would not say sorry. Their excuse is that it was during a war. I dare ask: what war are you talking about when unarmed and defenceless people were being killed? We talk about war when two or more armed groups or people are fighting. When you just kill people because you have a gun and they don’t have one, that’s not a war.

On possible reparations for the victims, Dube closed off the issue of possible financial compensation for the victims.

“First of all, some people talk about compensation. Who do you compensate when some victims are no longer alive?

“We are talking about something that happened about 30 to 40 years ago. It’s very complicated. If one shows remorse and comes forward to assist victims or their families through certain programmes, for example paying for their education or some such other serious plan, people will see that leaders are indeed sorry about what happened.

Tshinga Dube long lost former President Mugabe’s favour over his tough stance on Gukurahundi. His latest remarks may begin to strain relations with Mnangagwa who is already hinting on a rerun of the Makokoba constituency primary election which Tshinga Dube won.

Mugabe Chooses Chamisa Age-Mate To Lead NPF

Former President Robert Mugabe has outsmarted Emmerson Mnangagwa by chosing a Nelson Chamisa age-mate to lead the National Patriotic Front party.

The development has been reported by the weekly Standard which cites a secret meeting between the 94 year old and a 40 year old lawyer.

The NPF is a G40 morph and promises to be the alternative ZANU PF. The development if true, could see the NPF stealing thousands of youthful members from Mnangagwa, since in his leadership the young have been sidelined. In recent days, ZANU PF has been on the edge as Nelson Chamisa took the nation by storm amid a rising outcry for a young leader. Even elderly men and women above 90 have rallied to support Chamisa largely due to his age and his pulling charisma.

The Standard report written by Everson Mushava, says Mugabe has met the 40 year old Farai Mutamangira to discuss the leadership of the NPF, currently led by former Cabinet minister retired brigadier general Ambrose Mutinhiri, who is said to be on his way out, according to impeccable sources.

Mutinhiri was announced as the NPF leader in March after holding a meeting with Mugabe, but sources say he has fallen out of favour with the party’s structures after he failed to “assert his authority”.

Teachers Tell Minister Mavima To “Sit Down And Shut Up”

Professor Paul Mavima told to sit down and keep quiet

Professor Mavima is proving to be a liability as the Education Minister. When he was Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, he is on record at remarking that “teaching is seasonal just like the tobacco industry and sugar industry in Chiredzi.” He was justifying the suspension of vacation leave for teachers in 2016. Recently, he was at it again threatening teachers that they would be fired from their job if they tried to follow what nurses did “as teaching is an essential service.”

It is clear the Professor is operating on unfamiliar terrain. To argue that teaching is seasonal and that teachers do not need to go on leave is the worst lunacy an education official may exude. We had forgiven the Minister assuming his proximity to Dr Lazarus Dokora had spoiled his conception of the profession, but sadly, he has continued with his school boy blunders. The Minister is not even aware of labour rights guaranteed under section 65 of our constitution, viz, the right to collective bargaining as well as the right to strike. To assume, therefore, that teachers are ‘an essential service that cannot go on industrial action’ is to unnecessarily reveal ignorance of key tenets a minister heading a line ministry must be aware of. Needless to mention that the Minister has no locus standi over labour grievances that must be addressed by the employer.

Professor Mavima is advised to do the most honourable thing of supporting teachers in their clamour for increase of salaries; reinstitution of vacation leave; declaration of schools as politics-free zones; increase of rural and hardships allowance; and resuscitation of trachers’ responsibility allowances. Anything less than this will see teachers abandoning classes when schools open.

Teachers are their own liberators. We have nothing to lose, but our chains of poverty and immiseration by an uncaring employer. Any threat to a teacher in Zimbabwe, will be a threat to every teacher in Zimbabwe. Our maxim collective effort would guarantee maximum gains and minimum losses, let alone guarantee success in this national cause. That cause is nothing more than a legitimate labour dispute and teachers’ quest for fair labour practice.

Chamisa Jets Into UK – BREAKING NEWS

Own Correspondent| MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa has jetted into the United Kingdom.

He arrived in London at about 8 a.m.

He is accompanied by his colleague Tendai Biti.

Chamisa now heads over to Bedford for his first rally as MDC leader. ZimEye will give you the LIVE coverage. Below are the details for the venue …

Khupe Addresses Rally Attended By 100 People

By Talent Gondo| Leader of the MDC T breakaway faction led by Dr Thokozani Khupe promised better lives for citizens once elected into power at a Luveve rally attended by an estimated 100 supporters.

Dr Khupe, who dismissed any chances of rejoining the MDC T led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa, arguing that her party could not merge with political parties which failed to uphold constitutionalism promised free medication and education to Zimbabweans if they vote her for President in the forthcoming elections.

“Government should be responsible to teach people especially at primary education and parents should only start paying school fees at secondary education going upwards,” said Dr Khupe.

“We don’t tolerate violence and as such we have since moved on and we are ready to face whoever is standing in these elections,” she said.

Vice President of the party, Obert Guru (Saturday) said his party was poised for victory in the forthcoming elections.

“I am not the party spokesperson but what i can tell you is that we are on a roll and we are having meetings being attended by thousands of people.

The election results are going to shock the nation,” said Gutu, referring all questions to the party spokesperson  Linda Masarira.

However, the party’s national chairman, Mr Abednico Bhebhe addressing the same rally in Luveve admitted that Zanu Pf was better organised in rural areas and it was difficult to defeat the ruling party in their strongholds.

“Zanu PF is very clever when it comes to managing the elections. We have 57 rural district councils and only there are being controlled by the opposition and that explains why it is not easy to remove Zanu PF from power.

We need to go to Zanu PF strongholds and fight there not to waste time in Bulawayo and Matabeleland region,” said Bhebhe.

Secret Tip for Chamisa By CIO Gamatox

By Anonymous| What Chamisa can do to win this coming election. I am a senior Gamatox who was very close to Mugabe. Unfortunately our terms expired. I would like to tip Chamisa if he wants to win this harmonised elections. This was an arranged plan by Mugabe. The plan started when in rerun elections of 2008 which was termed blood polls. If all the opposition parties push for the reprinting of ballot papers definitely Chamisa will win this coming election. As long as ED refuses to change the paper there is nothing for Chamisa. I don’t know how this information can be heard by the Alliance gurus. That paper from Israel is an electronic paper. It was made to rig elections. What was said by Dr Tsvangirai after the 2013 elections were very correct. Mugabe pretended to be deaf to that issue because he knew that if taken to the court he was not going to win the case. Yes you can attend all the rallies but this serious issue must be resolved. Chamisa said lets have 5 samples of voters and test if the ballot paper is not electronically made. But ED refused. Under what circumstances Chamisa must be strong and keep his eyes to the ballot papers. That is another reason why Mugabe denied the e-voting. Otherwise all these rigging strategies were going to be difficult to apply. There must be demonstrations in this month if ED remains defiant to that issue. EU must know that level. No one likes zanupf since from 2008. ED told his MPs to work hard. And he added that they must work hard to win the seat. He said iye akahwina kare. The reason why zanu funded Khupe is that if Chamisa and his alliance boycott the elections they will take Khupe in the track. So far ED is hesitating nothing. Once the ballot papers are going to be changed ndopamuchaona garwe rodedera. I just want to tip you guys. God had already showed Chamisa the tricks for zanu. Ngaarambe akabata ipapo asaregedza.

Khupe Secretly Promised Govt Job By Chiwenga If Steals Votes

The expelled former MDC-T Vice President Thokozani Khupe was promised a position in a new Government of National Unity (GNU), it has been said.

Her former boss, the MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa says the GNU position will be Khupe’s payment for splitting opposition votes to ensure that Chamisa does not get a majority in the upcoming parliament.

Chamisa is quoted by the Standard saying

“That is an individual who is disgruntled and has chosen to join with two others and they are busy recruiting. Maybe they think of forming their own party and it is their right because we are a democracy, but don’t continue to push them back to us. If they want to come, let them come back, but don’t mislead the nation to say that they are MDC, no, they are not.

Those who are in MDC know where their headquarters is and it is at the Harvest House and they know their leadership and they are very clear. It is this confusion that they are trying to cause and we know where it is coming from.

Chiwenga let the cat out of the bag when word escaped out of his mouth through a statement where they were talking about legitimacy and this thing we are seeing is sponsored by Cde Chiwenga and his company. It is very clear and listen to what he said, it tells you a big story and we know it that they promised to divide the vote so that I don’t get 50% plus 1 vote so that they take her into a GNU (government of national unity).

Yes, they were told to divide the vote and then they would be accommodated in the government. She is not there to win elections but to just disturb, but fortunately, these antics are all under our full radar.”

Govt Bows To Pressure, To Appease Teachers To Avert Strike

The Zimbabwean government has given in to pressure and resorted to appease teachers so to avert a looming strike.

Teachers last week announced they would not be intimidated the way nurses were and threatened to shut down schools.

In a response, the Education Minister Professor Paul Mavima has since said the government has made progress in addressing the demands. “I am not taking a proactive role in the issue, you have to talk to Minister (of State for Presidential Affairs and Monitoring Implementation of Government Programmes Simbarashe) Mubengegwi for further clarity. However, I can say we met with the Elders and paved a way forward with the issue,” he said.

Mavima is further quoted by the state owned Sunday Mail saying  “we are happy with the progress made so far in addressing the concerns to avert the intended strike.

“Teachers wanted a 100 percent salary increment. However considering the budget, it is already strained, we cannot afford to address all the demands to be paid in cash.

“Thus we have suggested to accommodate their demands in both cash and kind terms. We will also look at specific allowances and make adjustments on vacation leave issue.

“In addition, interested teachers will be offered accommodation under the Command programme; and in terms of allowances, Government will make appropriate offers to meet their demands.”

Khupe Says She’s Not Worried About Chamisa But ZANU PF

Thokozani Khupe in street campaigns in Bulawayo

The Dr Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T says it has moved on and is not losing sleep over the faction led by Advocate Nelson Chamisa while promising its supporters better lives once elected into office.

Dr Khupe said they are done dealing with people who have no respect for the Constitution.

Addressing just over a 100 party supporters in Luveve, Dr Khupe seemed to dismiss any chances of rejoining the Chamisa led faction insisting that they will go ahead to form the next government once elected into power.

“Once we are elected into power we will ensure that there is free medication. Government should be responsible to teach people especially at primary education and parents should only start paying school fees at secondary education going upwards. We don’t tolerate violence and as such we have since moved on and we are ready to face whoever is standing in these elections,” she said.

The MDC-T Khupe led faction national chairman, Mr Abednico Bhebhe admitted that it was a tall order to dislodge Zanu PF from power as the ruling party has proper structures especially in the rural areas.

“Zanu PF is very clever when it comes to managing the elections. We have 57 rural district councils and only there are being controlled by the opposition and that explains why it is not easy to remove Zanu PF from power. We need to go to Zanu PF strongholds and fight there not to waste time in Bulawayo and Matabeleland region,” said Mr Bhebhe.

The Dr Khupe faction’s Luveve rally comes hard on the heels of their recent High Court victory over the use of the MDC-T party name and symbol, a move that has since been appealed against at the Supreme Court by the Chamisa led faction.

Air Zim Dumps Zim Airways, Homeless Aircraft Left Exposed To Heat

No where to go Zimbabwe Airways

By Paul Nyathi|Air Zimbabwe has refused to accomodate its “sibling” aircraft Zimbabwe Airways in its hangars at the Robert Mugabe International Airport it has emerged.

The national career is reportedly refusing to house the Boeing 777 jet in its hangars allegedly raising security and insurance concerns.

The aircraft which touched ground in the country from Malaysia over a month ago is reportedly parked in an open space at the domestic terminal of the airport and is exposed to weather effects especially the high temperatures that have been hitting the country in the last few weeks.

According to media reports, Transport Minister Joram Gumbo this week summoned senior Air Zimbabwe officials to his offices in a bid to force them to accomodate the aircraft whose ownership is still tied up in controversy.

“Minister Gumbo called acting CE (Justice) Makonese, the head of engineering and the legal affairs manager to his offices on Wednesday afternoon. He was unhappy about AirZim’s decision not to find space for the B777,” a source said.

The sources who spoke to weekend media said that the Air Zimbabwe hangars do not meet the standards required by the insurance companies for the plane of which the airline can not take the risk to accomodate the aircraft.

“The Air Zimbabwe hangar which was commissioned during Zimbabwe-Rhodesia era does not meet international standards for risk cover. It does not have smoke or fire detection system. It does not have a fire suppression system (automatic ceiling water/foam sprinklers. The other smaller hangar has been housing AirZim’s B737 which has been on major maintenance for more than four years now,” the source said.

Sources also indicated that the big jet could not be flawn to Bulawayo during the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair because the runway at Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo airport is too short for the Boeing 777. The runway at Bulawayo airport is 2,6km long and cannot accommodate the B777. The second largest runaway in Zimbabwe is Hwange (4,6km) which is under partial displacement due to asphalt damage followed by Victoria Falls (4km)

Contacted by the media for a comment on the issue, Gumbo said: “Ask those who have told you that, I never knew that it was an issue.”

2018 World Press Freedom Day: Media Reforms Key to Credible Elections

Misa Zimbabwe Statement|This year’s World Press Freedom Day commemorations, coming on the verge of Zimbabwe’s elections, pose the greatest test to government’s commitment to constitutional democracy underpinned by democratic media laws.

In saying this, MISA Zimbabwe is mindful of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration speech in November last year during which he pledged to strengthen and respect the pillars of democracy.

Regrettably, five months into his tenure, Zimbabwe is still stuck with repressive media laws such as the discredited Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (AIPPA), Broadcasting Services Act (BSA) and Official Secrets Act (OSA).

Other restrictive laws include, the Public Order and Security Act, Censorship and Entertainment Controls Act (CECA), and sections of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act. This situation should also be viewed against the government’s accelerated efforts to introduce the cybercrimes laws, generally perceived as intended to curb free speech online.

These laws essentially curtail citizens’ rights to freedom of assembly and association, demonstrate and petition, including the right to freedom of conscience, as provided for by Sections 58, 59 and 60 of the Constitution. As well as Sections 61 and 62 which protect the right to free expression, media freedom and access to information.

Our theme: Media Reforms Now: Free and Accountable Media Key to Credible Elections, is a reminder to government on the urgency and importance of implementing the outstanding reforms ahead of the elections.

This theme and our exhortations for government to play ball, also ride on UNESCO’s 2018 theme: Keeping Power in Check: Media, Justice and the Rule of Law.

Our position on the issues at hand, are further informed by the African Union Elections Observer Mission’s (AUEOM), post-2013 elections recommendations on improving the state of the media in Zimbabwe.

The AUEM singled AIPPA, BSA and POSA, as some of the contentious laws which curtail fundamental freedoms. It also recommended that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission “scrupulously enforces” relevant regulations of the Electoral Act to afford alternative voices and all political parties equitable access at all times during elections.

Transformation of the Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation into a truly independent, accessible and representative public broadcaster, thus remains of urgency.

While we commend the government for signing the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance, the government should, without any further delays, adopt and effect its relevant clauses into domestic laws and policies.

In turn, the media should at all times, strive to inform the public on issues of the day accurately and fairly as dictated by the profession’s code of ethics. Voters look up to the media to inform them factually and fairly on the various parties, policies and personalities for them to make informed decisions and choices on who to elect into public office.

Security authorities and political parties, should also ensure the safety and security of journalists conducting their lawful professional duties during and after this election period.

Meanwhile, the government cannot continue to dither and prevaricate on these reforms, five years after the coming into being of the 2013 Constitution which provides for the rights to freedom of expression, access to information and privacy, among others.

Instead, the government should:

Ensure its proposed cyber-crimes and cyber-security laws do not infringe civil liberties.
Ensure a safe working environment for journalists and media workers.
The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe should call for applications for community radio stations and license successful applicants as provided for by the Broadcasting Services Act.

Our demands in that regard, are Just and Legitimate!

ZEC Admits Fake People Registered In BVR

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission has admitted it has registered fake people into the voters’ database.

ZEC chairperson Justice Priscilla Chigumba spoke out to the state media as she said that registering to vote multiple times translated to a criminal offense.

“There are some who deliberately and intentionally registered more than once,” she said.
“We have a list of them and we are contemplating whether or not as a commission we should refer that list to the police for prosecution and say these people made a false statement.
“That affidavit form that was signed during registration was a declaration that the information given was correct.

“So what they were then saying in terms of that information (for example is) I live in Kuwadzana and then go to another polling station and say I am declaring this information to be true that I live in Mbare. And you do the same thing in other areas.”

“This action creates administrative problems. We have a mandate to perform and doing that (multiple registration) is tantamount to playing with us.

“If you left a number we contact you and ask what happened. If you are aware (of what you did), you have committed an offence.

“What we are hoping to do is to deter people from doing that in future,” Justice Chigumba said.
Justice Chigumba could not divulge the number of multiple registrants saying the figures would be included in the ZEC report to be tabled before parliament.

She said a final process of cleaning the voters’ roll was on-going ahead of the inspection next week.

Justice Chigumba said the commission was also working closely with the registrar generals office to get information on deaths that occurred since the beginning of the year with a view to delete such people from the voters roll.

Previously, names of deceased people appeared on the voters roll raising suspicions of vote rigging.
Said Justice Chigumba: “There are some people in the rural areas who don’t bother to notify the authorities of deaths of family members.

“That is why we always say to those who have relatives that have died, please notify us at ZEC. If authorities have not been notified we at ZEC have no way of determining that the person is dead.”

The commission is also preparing an exclusion list of people whose registration data has queries.

“It’s not necessarily an indication of a criminal activity but there are some people who may have entered different demographic data.

“Others, there may be two people who have the same first name and last name.
“Those people may find their names on the exclusion list (during inspection of voters roll) and there will be a keynote instructing them to go to the registrar general’s,” said Justice Chigumba.

Justice Chigumba emphasised that this year’s elections are polling station based.
A registered voter’s name will only appear at one polling station and it will be impossible to vote at any other station.

Grace’s Niece Allegedly Kidnapped A Russian Woman

ZIMBABWE Anti-Corruption Commissioner (Zacc) Mrs Farai Chinyani allegedly kidnapped a Russian woman for three days over a contract farming dispute, it has emerged.

Mrs Chinyani, who is former First Lady Dr Grace Mugabe’s niece, is also being accused of planning a voter education campaign in collaboration with the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, without the approval of Zacc.
The voter education proposal has divided the commission, with a meeting held a fortnight ago disagreeing with Mrs Chinyani. Other Zacc commissioners feel the voter education collaboration with Zec is outside the anti-graft body’s mandate to fight corruption.

However, Mrs Chinyani’s biggest headache is her dodgy past which could compromise her fitness to hold her position at Zacc as Section 254 (2) of the Constitution says the anti-graft body’s commissioners must be persons of high integrity.

Mrs Chinyani, who is Zacc’s public education and publicity committee chair, dismissed the allegations, saying it was a smear campaign by those seeking to persecute her because of her relationship with Dr Mugabe.

According to information gathered by The Sunday Mail, Mrs Chinyani allegedly kidnapped a lady of Russian origin, Ms Olga Dzubinsky, after a dispute over a contract farming arrangement a few years ago.

It is alleged that Ms Dzubinsky reported the alleged offence to police but the case was not followed up, ostensibly because she got protection from the then First Family and former Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri.

Documents in possession of The Sunday Mail show that the complainant took the matter to the Prosecutor General’s Office, which also attempted to pursue the case but in vain.
A senior official from the PG’s office told The Sunday Mail, “We attempted to prosecute the case, but we could not go through it at the time.”

A letter from the PG’s office to the then Commissioner General Augustine Chihuri confirmed Ms Dzubinsky’s allegations.

“I hereby kindly request your intervention Commissioner General in relation to allegations made by Ms Olga Dzubinsky to the effect that the above mentioned lady committed kidnapping, unlawful entry and threats.
“The matter appears to emanate from some intended contract farming facility that is offered by Ms Olga Dzubinsky’s business which did not materialise in favour of Chinyani. However, Chinyani is alleged to have taken the law into her own hands by threatening the complainant and acting in a violent way. Allegations are that the accused continues with these threat to an extent of promising to cause instability in the complainant’s business as well as causing her deportation since she is a foreigner.”

Mrs Chinyani told The Sunday Mail that she knew Ms Dzubinsky but claimed that she was the victim.

“Ms Dzubinsky is the one who actually cheated me and she owes me US$2500. Allegations that I kidnapped her are ridiculous. You can publish the story if you want but you should mention that I know that Goodson Nguni (Zacc Commissioner) is the one who is framing me. This is all part of his plot to get political mileage and distance himself from the former first family that I am closely related to.”

Mr Nguni declined to comment yesterday. “I have no comment over that matter,” he said curtly. – state media

Chamisa Didn’t Lie, Nero Is Truly Being Hosted By Queen Elizabeth’s Knight

By Dorrothy Moyo| MDC leader Nelson Chamisa was at the weekend attacked by the state media over speech rhetorics he used during his rally in Harare South.

Chamisa during his last rally before flying to the United Kingdom used a hyperbole in the name of the Queen while explaining his trip.

Beyond the rhetoric, ZimEye can reveal that Chamisa is of a truth being hosted by one of Queen Elizabeth’s Knights. Dr Alex Vines, OBE will be sitting side by side with Chamisa on Tuesday at Chatham House in London. ZimEye will cover the function as it progresses.

The Oxford thesaurus describes a rhetoric as a tool used in the art of effective speaking or writing, especially the exploitation of figures of speech and other compositional techniques.

The Sunday Mail however says Chamisa was lying when he used the term, “Queen” to describe his UK visit.

The paper extract reads in part: the leader of a faction of the MDC-T, Mr Nelson Chamisa, has once again been caught out lying to the nation, this time after claiming he had been personally invited to the United Kingdom by Queen Elizabeth II.

Mujuru Refuses To Join Chamisa

By Farai D Hove| The NPP leader, Joice Mujuru has refused to join MDC leader, Nelson Chamisa. This comes against a rumour that circulated on Saturday claiming that she has decided to join the MDC.

In a statement, the party said it, “wishes to dismiss the falsehoods that it has resolved to join Mdct Alliance with the contempt it deserves. Deliberations of such magnitude are not done through social media but proper channels of engagement with announcements being made at the appropriate time and forums.” READ MORE

Breaking: Zanu Pf Orders Election Re run In 10 Constituencies

By Talent Gondo| Zanu Pf has ordered election re runs in 10 constituencies in Mashonaland West and Harare as part of efforts to resolve disputes over the outcome of the just ended primary polls.

Party supporters (Thursday) besieged the Zanu Pf headquarters threatening to vote for the opposition if their grievances are not addressed.

The supporters alleged gross irregularities, candidate imposition and vote rigging by some of the candidates who claimed victory in the primary elections.

An extra ordinary session of the Politburo, the party’s highest decision making body resolved at a meeting held at the party Headquarters in Harare (Saturday) to conduct election reruns while at the same time sending independent observers to establish and verify the allegations within the disputed constituencies.

Zanu Pf Secretary for Administration Obert Mpofu representing the Party’s Spokesperson, Simon Khaya Moyo said the Politbuto was generally satisfied with the way the elections were conducted saying the conduct of the elections reflected deepening democracy within Zanu Pf.

“We will send independent verification teams where gross malpractices and irregularities were recorded.

The Commissariate will notify the affected constituencies at the earliest possible time,” said Mpofu.

Zanu Pf’s primary elections were held from April 29 to May 1 2018 and the party was electing prospective councillors, national Assembly and Senatorial candidates who will contest the forthcoming harmonised polls under the Zanu Pf ticket.

More Cholera Cases Recorded In Chitungwiza

By Talent Gondo| Several new cholera cases have been recorded in St Mary’s Chitungwiza as the city continues to grapple with water and sanitation related challenges.

Sources privy to developments in the area told ZimEye that although 7 new cases of the disease were recorded and treated at St Mary’s Centre in the satellite town, there were no deaths as a result of the outbreak.

“A 72 year old woman, a 35 year old mother and her twin daughters aged 4 and another man and his tenants were all confirmed cholera positive and they were treated and discharged,” said the source.

According to the source, the affected people had their houses sprayed to avoid the spread of the disease.

Chitungwiza has been at the receiving end of water borne diseases including cholera and typhoid.

Cholera is highly infectious, causing severe watery diarrhea, which can lead to dehydration and even death if untreated.

The disease is caused by eating food or drinking water contaminated with a bacterium called Vibrio cholerae.

In its election manifesto launched Friday in Harare, Zanu Pf pledged to redress the water woes bedevilling the nation promising the provision of sufficient drinking water and sanitation for the citizenry

Chiwenga Wades Into MDC T Leadership Wrangle

By Talent Gondo| Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has waded into MDC T internal affairs describing MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa as an illegitimate leader.

Chiwenga’ s statement has opened a can of worms with analysts and observers of the MDC T leadership wrangle suggesting that the development indicates that Zanu Pf and the military junta recognise Thokozani Khupe as the legitimate leader of the opposition political party.

Speaking at the party’s election manifesto launch at Harare International  Conference Centre (HICC) on Friday, Retired General Chiwenga said the youthful MDC Alliance leader was not the legitimate leader of the opposition MDC-T.

“Before they tackle our icon, why not do their own supporters a small favour by resolving legitimacy issues that dog and haunt them,”

“We excuse them for being too young to have participated in the struggle but we cannot excuse them for mounting a bid for national leadership from a pilfered party crown,” he said.

Citizens took to the social media accusing the MDC T led by Khupe of fronting the Junta agenda hence the acknowledgement  by Chiwenga of the faction led by the former MDC T Vice President.

However Spokesperson of the MDC T led by Dr Khupe, Linda Masarira said Chamisa has himself to blame for the illegitimate status being conferred to him since he rose to ascendancy through the back door.

“It is there in the MDC T Constitution of what processes were supposed to be followed in the event that a sitting president dies.

“The fact that Nelson Chamisa decided to use unorthodox means to ascend to power will never legitimise his presidency,” said Masarira, adding that her party stands for Constitutionalism and equality.

She said populism should not be equated to Constitutionalism.

” We are not fronting the Junta because we want to remove them from power,” she said, emphasising the importance of upholding democracy within the opposition.

Chamisa Hits Back At Chiwenga: Says He Is A Converted MDC T

By Talent Gondo| MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa has hit back at Vice President Retired Brigadier General Constantino Chiwenga who recently described the youthful leader as a “juvenile in politics” saying the VP is a converted MDC T member who is well versed with opposition policies.

Addressing party supporters in Chegutu (Saturday), Chamisa said Chiwenga’s address at the Zanu Pf election manifesto in Harare (Friday) reflected that he is a converted MDC T member who listens to the Alliance leader’s vision post 2018.

“I am happy because Chiwenga listens to what I say,” he said.

“He is a converted MDC T member. He showed it when he spent half the time talking about the MDC T policies, mission and vision.”

Chamisa castigated VP Chiwenga for attacking his leadership traits based on his age.

“When he went to war, how old was he? Was he not 19? Who castigated him for joining the liberation struggle at such a tender age?” queried Chamisa.

He urged the Zanu Pf leaders to give young blood a chance to transform the nation since they had played their part in liberating the country from colonial rule.

“What new dispensation can one offer at 75, when he is supposed to go on retirement?” said Chamisa.

He said as soon as he ascends to power, he will ensure that President Emmerson Mnangagwa is retired and gets his dues accordingly as a senior citizen.

Poverty Among Plenty: As Zanu Pf Splashes More On Vehicles

By Talent Gondo| Zanu Pf yesterday handed over part of over 300 campaign vehicles sourced by the party for its election campaign to its district and provincial leadership in Manicaland as the party gears for the watershed polls.

The development comes a few days after the party handed over 84 vehicles to chiefs, in a move which analysts have descibed as “sickening vote buying”.

The vehicles, whose cost is unknown comes as the country is grappling with foreign currency shortages and a broke economy, which last month saw nurses embark on a nationwide strike that left the health delivery system on its knees.

Speaking at the party’s election campaign launch in Harare (Friday), Politburo member and Secretary for Transport, July Moyo revealed that the vehicles would be distributed to all the party’s administrative districts, provincial structures and winning candidates.

“People need transport, ” said Moyo, adding that the party would give over 200 more vehicles to “winning candidates”.

“There are seven vehicles that have already been branded that the President will unveil and those to be unveiled today are destined for Manicaland.

Another batch of cars is for winning candidates. There are 210 of them,” said Moyo.

Former Higher Education minister and Zanu Pf strategist, Jonathan Moyo is on record revealing that his former party abuses state resources for its election campaign strategies.

According to Moyo, Zanu Pf will this year alone splash US$70 million on election campaign material including regalia and vehicles for party members and all the registered 226 chiefs.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa last month repossesed a campaign vehicle given to the Former Mashonaland East Minister of State for Provincial Affairs who is now leading a splinter opposition party National Patriotic Front, Retired Brigadier General Ambrose Mutinhiri towards the 2013 elections.

Mutinhiri was forced to hand over the vehicle after two men from the Office the President visited his home asking him to hand it over since it was needed by the party for campaigning purposes.

Former Zanu Pf Secretary for Transport who is now the party’s National Chairperson, Oppah  Muchinguri is on record refusing to disclose the source of funds for the vehicles arguing that such kind of information was “party business which cannot be disclosed to the media.”

Opposition political parties described the purchase of vehicles at the expense of suffering citizens as a reflection that Zanu Pf was an “immoral and insensitive party”.

ZEC Blocks The Registering of More Than 100 Voters Per Day

The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is only registering 100 people per day at Cecil House and Remembrance Complex static voter registration centers in Harare, the below report by the Election Resource Centre (ERC) reveals.

ZEC’S DISREGARD FOR SUPPRESSED VOTER REGISTRATION IN HARARE UNACCEPTABLE, ERC

The Election Resource Centre (ERC) has noted with great concern that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) is only registering 100 people per day at Cecil House and Remembrance Complex static voter registration centers in Harare, with the prospective registrants being turned away as early as 11am.

The observation, having been made on 29 March 2018, was communicated to ZEC in the spirit of assisting the Commission in remedying identified challenges in the electoral process.  In the communication, the ERC recommended that the Commission ensures unlimited continuous voter registration throughout a normal working day. The observation and recommendation have been snubbed by ZEC.

ZEC’s decision to ignore suggests a disregard of key principles of voter registration and election administration.  Constricting the number of voter registrants per day in Harare, a province where the rate of registration has been the lowest compared to other provinces, violates principles of inclusivity, comprehensiveness and accessibility in voter registration. The consequence of flouting principles of voter registration by disregarding calls to open up voter registration in Harare exposes the credibility of the voter registration process and the election to doubt.  The right to vote can only be sufficiently exercised if equal participation and access to voter registration are guaranteed. Such is currently not the case.

ERC and other stakeholders have in the past highlighted the disproportionate allocation of BVR kits and voter registration centres during the biometric voter registration blitz and the follow up mop up exercise. This resulted in suppressed voter registration figures in Harare and Bulawayo. It would have been expected therefore, that ZEC would take heed and favourably consider observations and recommendations by stakeholders aimed at increasing the number of registered voters.

ERC therefore appeals to ZEC to ensure unlimited continuous voter registration at all statistic voter registration centres across the country. Further, ERC encourages ZEC to take extra measures to mobilise and facilitate voter registration in Harare and Bulawayo, which have the lowest voter registration figures in relation to the estimated voter population compared to other provinces.

If the interest of ZEC is to deliver a credible, free and fair election, every effort should be made to eliminate any, if not all, potential sources of election dispute.

ZEC Disapproves Contested Opposition Party Symbol

By Paul Nyathi|The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission ZEC has disapproved a symbol presented by the under contest Zeb Shumba led ZimFirst party.

The symbol which featured the Zimbabwean bird was blocked by the electoral body on claims that the bird is prohibited from being used as a political parties symbol.

The party since recrafted its symbol.

Speaking to ZimEye.com in an interview on Saturday, Shumba said that the party had to accept the order from ZEC and adjusted its symbol accordingly.

“We had no alternative but to comply said Shumba.

The party has since notified its members of the change in the symbol.

“After ZEC wrote to the party stating that our logo consisted of a Zimbabwe bird that is a banned symbol, the party has redesigned the logo,” said Shumba in a statement to the members.

“Please find attached the new logo and the symbolism of each feature on the logo:

Mnangagwa Was Abducted “Dzamara Style” In Zambia

President Emmerson Mnangagwa was abducted “Itai Dzamara style” in Zambia over supporting former President Robert Mugabe, it has been said.

Veteran Zambian politician Vernon Johnson Mwaanga who worked under former President Kenneth Kaunda’s leadership narrates an incident when Mnangagwa was kidnapped during the Rhodesian Bush war, also called, the liberation war.

Mwaanga says Mnangagwa was kidnapped over belonging to a Robert Mugabe faction.

Mwaanga then says he had to facilitate Mnangagwa’s release by first getting in touch with the police then the army. He is quoted by the state media saying,

“The police retreated because here (in Lusaka) they are not armed. When they retreated, they reported to me that they had been engaged militarily by the elements they found on the ground. I phoned the army commander and I asked him to send soldiers to the camp to go and have Mr Mnangagwa released. I told them to use any amount of force necessary to secure his release. When they got there, they tried to put up resistance but the soldiers were well armed. The soldiers warned them that if they tried they may light up the whole camp. They went in and I told them to disarm everyone. They found Mr Mnangagwa tied to a tree in that camp. They took photos and then untied him.”

Mnangagwa Falls To Chamisa, Promises Spaghetti Road Gong

A page in the ZANU PF manifesto showing the proposed spaghetti highways

By Paul Nyathi|After going all out making light of MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa’s undertaking that the MDC government will go all out to improve Zimbabwean roads to world class standards, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has adopted the same call in the ZANU PF manifesto he launched on Friday.

Chamisa has been going around in his nationwide rallies condemning the poor state of Zimbabwe’s roads undertaking that if elected into government, his party will prioritise improving the roads to spaghetti type of highways seen in other countries.

ZANU PF loyalists went wild throwing criticism at Chamisa’s undertaking describing it as wishful thinking.

In a copied move, the ruling party has included the promise of similar spaghetti roads in its election manifesto.

The ZANU PF government has throughout its programmes been working on dualisation of the highways until Chamisa emerged the promise not to dualise the highways but develop them to world class spaghetti highways.

ZimEye.com tried to contact ZANU PF Secretary for Information Simon Khaya Moyo to get a comment on the sudden change of mind to adopt Chamisa’s promise but was unsuccessful.

President Mnangagwa declared at the manifesto launch that the party will seriously concentrate on infrastructure development which incidental is the MDC Alliance coalition’s campaign message.

Nyambirai Assaults Children’s Rights in Pursuit Of Profit

Tawanda Nyambirai

The machinery of the unrepentant and ruthless capitalist Tawanda Nyambirai crushed the rights of minors at Arcturus mine over the past 2 days.

Children were left stranded and are sleeping under trees enduring the vagaries of bad weather. This is in direct violation of Children’s Rights as espoused in section 81(1) f of the national constitution.

Nyambirai has further denied these vulnerable children their right to education as they will not be able to access education as schools open next week.

Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe, ARTUZ is appealing to all organisations working on rights of children to come to the rescue of the approximately 70 children affected by this development.

We further call on the State to protect these innocent kids who have fallen prey to the machinations of Capital.

Job Sikhala Pleads For Thieving ZANU PF Minister

Former Minister Walter Mzembi

By Paul Nyathi|Opposition MDC-T National Executive member Job Sikhala has made an affectionate plea for under trial former ZANU PF Minister Walter Mzembi not to have his date in court.

Appearing before Harare magistrate Victoria Mashamba on Friday, Sikhala who is the former Minister’s legal council said Mzembi has been admitted into the intensive care unit of a private South African hospital and is unable to attend his fraud trial.

The State had threatened to apply for a warrant of Mzembi’s arrest for wilful default of court appearance.

“Your Worship, my client has a serious health condition which I disclosed under camera when we appeared before your sister magistrate Tilda Mazhande last week. It is on this background that he is not in attendance today,” he said.

“He will take 10 days in the intensive care unit and is restricted to move or fly, as his condition is serious. He is unable to walk or do any other business up to a period of six weeks and it will be proper for the State to ask for an administrative warrant.”

Mashamba upheld Sikhala’s application and issued an administrative warrant for Mzembi.

The former Cabinet minister and Zanu PF legislator, who is on $400 bail, is facing various fraud allegations, which include unauthorised donation of four government-sourced television screens to the United Family International Church led by Emmanuel Makandiwa, Walter Magaya’s Prophetic Healing and Deliverance Ministries and Nehemiah Mutendi’s Zion Christian Church in Masvingo.

The television sets had been bought by government for the promotion of the World Cup in 2010. He also faces a theft of trust property valued at $1,8 million at his former Tourism ministry.

1 Billion To Watch Zim Warriors Live On Barca TV

Prophet Walter Magaya in action for the Zimbabwean Warriors

By Paul Nyathi|Former Zimbabwe national soccer team players the Warriors Legends, are set for yet another high-profile showdown next month when they host a team featuring European legends at the National Sports Stadium.

The match, which has been set for June 8, was announced yesterday at the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and the World Class Legends represented by Rayco Garcia.

Garcia said the match will be aired on Real Madrid and Barcelona televisions and also on their social media platforms with a projected audience of one billion.

“We are here as the guests of the ZTA as well as His Excellency, President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” said Garcia.

“Today is an important day because we have decided that we are going to come to play a football game to promote the country internationally. We are planning to make a match against Zimbabwe legends on June 8, it will be a Friday. The last time we enjoyed a lot. Puyol, Pires, Roberto Carlos and of course Baptista will come. We will be announcing the players between now and the date of the match

“Some of you know me from the last game that we did with Barcelona Legends. I think it was a success, all the players were very happy.  But all of us didn’t know anything about Zimbabwe. This country has, unfortunately, for many years, had no good name internationally. So I think with these kinds of initiatives we can change this. We can show to the world that this is a safe place to invest because this is not a country at war, like we see on international television.

“It’s very important to announce that we will use football as a powerful platform, through all our ambassadors around the world. Of course, Julio (Baptista) is from Brazil but the Spaniards will come, the Italians will come, the French will come, the Dutch will come. I think it’s now the time to open Zimbabwe for business and to create opportunities for everyone,” said Garcia.

Former Real Madrid and Arsenal forward Baptista said he was excited to be back in Zimbabwe.

He was part of the Brazil national team that played the Warriors in 2010 on their way to the Fifa World Cup held in South Africa.

“I am so happy to be here. This is my second time. When I visited the country the first time was when I was with the Brazil  national team. The country has great opportunity for development with football.La Liga are doing a great job in many parts of the world. I think La Liga can do an incredible job here too,” said Baptista.

The tourists had an opportunity to meet President Mnangagwa yesterday where they pledged to market the country as a safe destination.

Mnangagwa Says Mohadi Alive But Not Well

Kembo Mohadi pictured recently with members of his family

By Paul Nyathi|President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dispelled social media rumours that his deputy and party’s Second Secretary Kembo Mohadi had died.

Mnangagwa dismissed the rumours wide spread rumour while launching the party’s election manifesto in Harare at the Harare International Conference Centre on Friday.

Social media was on Friday awash with information that the ailing Vice President had died in a South African hospital where he has been admitted for a couple of weeks now.

President Mnangagwa put the claims to rest while addressing party supporters with his introductory messages as he acknowledged Mohadi in absentia citing that he was not feeling well.

“He is not feeling too well. We wish him a speedy recovery,” said President Mnangagwa.

Mohadi’s estranged wife Tambudzani told ZimEye.com in an interview on Friday that she last spoke to the Vice President two days before days and he was out of hospital saying that she has no knowledge of the VP having met his demise as suggested by the rumours.

“No, we haven’t heard,” she said.

When asked on reports that he is still in South Africa, she said, “no, he was not even there…he was here in Harare…he was not in hospital”

Chamisa To Clean Up ZANU PF Mess In Chegutu

Messed up, Dexter Nduna

By Paul Nyathi
|As the small town of Chegutu is still in confusion following violent incidents experienced during the ZANU PF primary elections held last weekend, MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa will on Saturday descend in the town to deliver a different message of hope and peace.

On Monday after failed primary elections on Sunday, ZANU PF supporters resorted to horrific intra party violence that saw local member of parliament Dexter Nduna discharging five rounds of live ammunition resulting in him being arrested.

Residents of the town widely condemned the violence and the shooting.

Chamisa is expected to address thousands of people in the town as he continues to deliver the MDC Alliance coalition coalition promises of a Zimbabwe government different from the current ZANU PF government.

The youthful opposition leader will immediately after the Chegutu rally fly out of the country to the United Kingdom where he is expected to engage with Zimbabweans and diplomats in that country.

He is also expected to make an address at Chatham House as he paves way for his party.

Mnangagwa Throws Losing Bigwigs Under The Bus

President Emmerson Mnangagwa addressing the party election manifesto launch

By Talent Gondo|President Emmerson Mnangagwa has dumped party bigwigs who lost the just ended primary elections revealing that the days of favouratism and political chickenary were over.

Addressing delegates who attended the launch of the party’s 2018 election manifesto at the HICC, in Harare (Friday), President Mnangagwa revealed that the party will allow a rerun in very few constituencies in order to allow for democracy to prevail.

“The days of favouritism and chickenary are gone and buried no matter the person’s status or standing,” said Zanu Pf’s first secretary.

“Leaders must come from the people. We must fully respect their (electorate) wishes,” he said.

Several Zanu Pf bigwigs were booted out of the 2018 election race during the party’s primary elections held last weekend.

Politburo members and Cabinet ministers, were left in shock following their humiliating defeat at the hands of not so popular opponents.

Industry and Commerce minister, Mike Bimha, Special Advisor to the President, Christopher Mutsvangwa, Christopher Mushowe who is the Scholarships minister, Douglas Mahiya, War Veterans top boss and Abednico Ncube among others lost the primaries which were marred with violence, controversy and allegations of rigging and ballot stuffing.

President Mnangagwa however revealed that the party would consider reruns of the primaries in a handful of constituencies as part of ensuring that the will of the people prevails.

“We must never deviate from our internal democratic systems,” said President Mnangagwa.

“We must guard against those with ulterior motive who may violate and undermine our democratic system,” he added.

Teachers Begged Not To Go On Strike

By Paul Nyathi|Inconsistent civil servants representative body The Apex Council has urged teachers not to go on strike when schools open on Tuesday next week.

The labour body which has through the years clashed with its members over insincere and inconsistent bargaining says that they have not yet exhausted all avenues to address the teachers grievances.

Teachers have threatened to down tools at the beginning of the second term next week if Government does not meet their varied demands including low salaries and allowances.

Mrs Cecelia Alexander, the chairperson of the Apex Council said employees have not reached an impasse with the employer and there is no need for a strike at the moment.

She said it will be premature for teachers to embark on an industrial action as there is still room for negotiations.

“The Apex Council has not yet reached a deadlock with the Government. The Government says it is ready to give us feedback on the concerns we raised. Therefore, it is premature for Apex to take action before exhausting the engagement process as a matter of procedure,” she said.

Six teachers’ unions which fall under the Federation of Zimbabwe Educators Union (Fozeu) — Progressive Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ), Zimbabwe Teachers’ Union (Zimta), Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union (Artu), Zimbabwe National Teachers’ Union (Zinatu), Zimbabwe Democratic Teachers’ Union (ZDTU) and Professional Educators’ Union of Zimbabwe (PEUZ) — have all resolved to withdraw labour when schools open next week.

They argue that Government should negotiate with them separately since they have peculiar concerns that do not affect other civil servants.

Mrs Alexander said before taking drastic action, civil servants should wait for Monday’s negotiations as they could yield positive results.

“We are informing all civil servants that negotiations with Government are still underway and we will be meeting Government on Monday, May 7, 2018. We are anticipating to get a positive response on the concerns which have not been addressed for a long time. Feedback will be on review of salaries and allowances for all civil servants,” said Mrs Alexander.

She said the Apex Council has presented some its challenges to Government including reinstatement of vacation leave, address institutional accommodation matters and housing for civil servants.

The Government has already warned that it will dismiss all teachers who will not report for duty on Tuesday.

‘Mnangagwa’ s Hypocrisy Exposed’

President Emmerson Mnangagwa

Terrence Mawawa

Social media commentator Frank Chamunorwa has sensationally claimed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’ s refusal to accept the outcome of the Zanu PF primary elections, indicates he is a hypocrite.

“Who is E D Mnangagwa trying to hoodwink by
claiming that he was not aware of conflation of
state and party resources during the past Zanu
PF primaries?

A true candid leader cannot
profess ignorance of such glaring flagrant
use of state resources , eclipsing what the
previous regime did, yet he dares to say such
practices would not be condoned under the new
dispensation.

Even grade zero kids can see
through this maze of blatant deceitful denials.
Can free and fair elections be held after this charade ? Who
honestly is he fooling?” wrote Chamunorwa on Facebook.
