Big up to Emmerson Mnangagwa. I am still to hear him insulting anyone opposed to him as was the custom during the reign of “you-know-who”. He has been attacked left right and centre by the opposition but he doesn’t respond, even to the most offensive insults. He keeps his cool and his eye on the ball.
I haven’t heard hate language and inciteful rhetoric from the man. Most of the time he wears a smile, seemingly keeping a distance from anger. He has avoided and has refused to be dragged into bashful politics by the opposition, preferring to cling to issues affecting the people and country at large.
He has ignored incessant attacks from the likes of Jonathan Moyo, who is a graduate from the Robert Mugabe school of politics.
Mnangagwa keeps a certain calm about him. He speaks mildly, almost never upping his tone and pitch. He has displayed a lot of maturity by avoiding boastfulness and bashfulness. He has kept his stride straight and has held himself like a gentleman by not being loud or a loudmouth.
The opposition on the other hand find it difficult to make a point without adding some hot chillies. Insults are there on their menu, ordered on not, they will serve them to you especially if you dare criticise or point out a mistake they have made. They will force feed them to you raw. They don’t take kindly to correction or long to draw a weapon and shoot, sometimes shooting in the dark and not caring who gets hit. Someone abused often becomes an abuser. Mr Mugabe caused these people a lot of pain and suffering and now they believe to win you have to cause pain and suffering, hurting others emotionally and psychologically. This problem has worsened and the results are what happened in Buhera and Bulawayo. Those who suffered at the hands of Mr Mugabe might have not received therapy and counselling, (something War Veterans also needed but did not get). That is why they see no problem in forming an alliance with Mr Mugabe’s NPF. Victims of abuse forming an alliance with the abuser. Only possible when both become abusers.
By Paul Nyathi|The ruling ZANU PF has expressed extreme joy at receiving former ZBC presenter Eric Knight who recently dumped opposition MDC-T.
Knight was the MDC-T candidate for probably the country’s most coveted seat, Mbare Constituency, in 2013.
The ruling party’s UK Chairman Nick Mangwana confirmed that the party received knight into its structures in the United Kingdom.
“Don’t be surprised to see him deployed publicly soon,” said Mangwana.
“I can confirm Cde Eric Knight is now a member of the Zanu PF and has joined the structures in the UK,” said Mangwana.
Mangwana said the broadcaster was not the only former prominent MDC-T supporter to have recently crossed over to ZANU PF in the UK.
“Cde Knight is not the only prominent member of the Zimbabwean Community who has joined Zanu PF,” said Mangwana.
“Our membership has grown exponentially since the advent of the New Dispensation.
“A lot of people are finding resonance with the reform agenda that the New Administration is Harare has embarked and these comrades that are coming from across the political aisle vindicate that they are on board with the Reform Agenda.”
He continued; “The fact that Cde Knight and other former members of the MDC-T have made their decision to leave the MDC-T at this point is telling.
“They have made clear who they think should and will be leading the county after the elections. And it’s not Mr Chamisa.”
“Regarding his last association with the MDC-T, it’s not an issue,” said Mangwana.
“In fact, that only serves to vindicate the appeal of the New Dispensation. We don’t grow the party by inbreeding. We grow it by getting neutrals and members of the opposition to cross the floor and join us.
“We value our long serving faithfuls and we also value those that have flirted with opposition politics in the past but have now chosen to come to the revolutionary part and work with us in changing the course of our country.”
By Talent Gondo| MDC T splinter group president, Dr Thokozani Khupe, is set to hold a star rally in Harare this weekend on Saturday.
The rally, set to be held at Mandela Hall at Harare Show Grounds is Dr Khupe’s first encounter with the party structures in Harare following her breakaway from the Nelson Chamisa led splinter group of the MDC T.
Linda Masarira, who is the party spokesperson described the rally as a meeting for the party’s internal structures where the party leadership are sharing their election manifesto, B.E.S.T.
She said the meeting comes on the backdrop of a successful debut rally held in Bulawayo recently.
“It is critically important to note that we are not yet having rallies.
We are unpacking the manifesto to our provincial structures province by province that is why the event is dubbed ‘Game on B.E.S.T Harare,” said Masarira.
She dismissed as false allegations that her party was small adding that her party prioritised delivery ahead of populism.
“We are not a small party and we are not focusing on populism beyond deliverables,” she said.
“MDC-T led by Dr Thokozani Khuphe is a
realistic party with smart ideas, strategies and plans to take Zimbabwe forward,” added Masarira.
By Tatenda Magara| I respect that you are the current leader of the republic of Zimbabwe. I am a young Zimbabwean youth, a graduate and a leader for tomorrow. We are on the ground, our Zimbabwean ground, where we meet as youths and the elderly to discuss Zimbabwe and its way forward. I once had a discussion with an elderly father who is a war veteran and also my youth colleagues. I have mentioned War Veterans and Youths. The two types of people understand Zimbabwe from different contexts. Most people cannot control their feelings or emotions brought about with past experience and/or what they went through in life. A background of war versus a background of economic hardships if two people from these contexts are not careful in a debate, they might end-up fighting and failing to unite. WE WANT UNITY!
There is a gap to be closed between the elderly and the youths. We do not want a tag of war between the old (tried and tested) experienced, and the youths (vibrant and promising) energetic.
Before you leave Mr President, allow me to give you this task with all my respect; please dilute these two groups of your population, unite them, and iron-out their differences. Manage their feelings. We want the youths to understand the dynamics and history of the country at the same time the older to understand the difficulties of life we are facing without using emotions. I may not be able to clearly send this message to you but a visionary leader will always be able to get the sense.
You belong to the elderly Mr President by age and by the history of you to Zimbabwe but as a leader for us all, we want you to be Young when dealing with youths. when someone old holds a baby in his/her hands, everything goes childish, the sounds one make, the sayings and action too. when someone young is with the elderly, everything goes matured, no actions, very stable, well mannered, good behavior! We look forward to see you Comrade being a youth at the same time an old work-horse, uniting us and closing the gap, mixed feelings and different opinions between the Old and the Young.
We will see SUCCESSION go well and the country moving forward. I am not a fan of Elections but at an academic level i understand the importance of Elections. Zimbabwe actually needs them for the country to go forward. Let us pray for anything that may disturb the holding of scheduled and constitutionally due elections this year. WE NEED PEACE AND ABOVE ALL UNITY. May God bless Zimbabwe and Zimbabweans!!!

Former Home Affairs Minister, Ignatius Chombo whose passport was being held by the state following a raft of allegations levelled against him since November last year some of which include corruption, abuse of office and being a criminal nuisance on Tuesday breathed a sigh of relief after he was given back his passport to enable him to travel to South Africa for medical attention.
Chombo will have the passport until June 13 2018 as he seeks treatment for an undisclosed ailment in neighbouring South Africa.
Through his lawyer, Lovemore Madhuku, the former minister had applied for the release of the passport indicating that he wanted to travel abroad when he appeared before Harare magistrate Ms Victoria Mashamba for routine remand. He was remanded to June 13.
Chombo’s co-accused – Rejoice Pazvakavambwa, the deputy director of valuations and estate management in the Ministry of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, and Lazarus Chimba, the registrar of valuers – were remanded to May 16. However, they applied for refusal of further remand.
Chombo is facing a raft of charges ranging from corruption to abuse of office, fraud and criminal nuisance.

By Talent Gondo| Teachers have threatened to down tools and take to the streets tomorrow (Friday) arguing that government’s offer of increasing their salaries by 15 percent fell far too short of their expectations.
Government had initially offered the teachers a 10 percent increase before increasing the figure to 15 percent, with effect from July 1 2018.
This resolution was agreed at during a meeting between the teachers unions and the employer through the National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC).
However, the teachers are not fazed with the offer insisting that the revised figure should be consistent with the poverty datum line (PDL).
The Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (Artuz) issued a statement revealing that they were planning a protest on Friday, dubbed the Red Friday of Rage.
“What the government is offering in not in line with the prevailing economic situation, as the salaries are way below the PDL, which now stands at $720 according to the Consumer Council of Zimbabwe,” said the Artuz.
According to Artuz, the Apex Council, chaired by Cecelia Alexander, let the teachers down during the NJNC, sentiments that were also echoed by the Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta).
Zimta’s national secretary-general Tapson Nganunu Sibanda said during the NJNC meeting government negotiators offered to increase salaries by a paltry 15 percent and a rural allowance pegged at five percent.
“Furthermore, government indicated its willingness to pay cash in lieu of leave for the 38 359 teachers with overdue leave days by the 1st of July 2018. However, government was not ready to furnish us with the logistics of how this amount would be paid. We also demanded that government produces a paper detailing the housing project they are offering to workers,” Nganunu said in a letter to members dated May 14, 2018.
“We have maintained that salaries of the least paid teacher in Grade D1 should be pegged way above the PDL, as is the case with other professionals employed by the same government”.
However, the teachers’ body revealed that further engagements were still expected today.
Government has been under pressure from the civil service, who are pushing for better wages and improved working conditions. The lowest paid government worker earns $253 per month.
As a way of trying to improve working conditions for teachers, government last week rescinded its decision to bar teachers from going on vacation leave.
It said teachers who were short changed by the vacation leave ban will be paid cash in lieu for the accrued days effective from July although the payments will be staggered.
The planned protests by the teachers have also been set in motion at a time when the Unemployed Teachers Association of Zimbabwe has written a letter to Education minister Paul Mavhima and the Public Service Commission, demanding recognition.
“We are writing this note with bitter and heavy hearts. It is (has been) long since you recognised us. Each year almost 3 000 qualified teachers are realised into the country adding to the almost 10 000 destitutes. Since 2016, when recruitment was frozen, qualified teachers were wondering from province to province, district to district in anticipation of jobs, but to no avail.
We were surprised when you mentioned us as a reserve army of desperate teachers who are waiting for an opportunity,” the organisation said, threatening to take unspecified action.
“Of late you were saying your government does not have the capacity to recruit more teachers, even though we received the news with pain.
We are asking the government to make arrangements with governments of surrounding nations who are in need of this neglected, committed workforce.
As unemployed teachers we are declaring that, within seven working days upon receipt of this note, failure to address our issues will attract wrath from the legion of unemployed teachers,” the organisation said.
By Paul Nyathi|MDC-T National Executive member Job Sikhala has exposed an alleged internal scheme to sabotage party Preaident Nelson Chamisa from winning the elections.
In a sensational Facebook post on Wednesday, Sikhala accuses some senior party members for deliberately suffocating the candidates identification process in order to tarnish Chamisa’s accolades in the electorate.
Writes Sikhala in full:
Hitler new there were back stabbers and Ian Douglas Smith knew there were great betrayers. Some people think we are not seeing their back stabbing and betrayal actions against our young President Nelson Chamisa. These are people who are:
1) Removing other candidates’ names from the contesting panel so that their weak and unwanted surrogates avoid primary elections and stand a chance to stand as a party’s candidate.
2) These are people who want to impose themselves through chicanery knowing well they have got no support. They name drop the President’s name as if they are friends when in actual truth they are not.
3) These are the people who want to build their empire for the future eye of an office. So they are building false fiefdoms through trying to impose those they think are their own and blame shift to the young President.
MDC is a party founded on democracy and all its tenets and material elements. The actions of these people are purely to create a huge constituency of disenchantment from the general membership and supporters of the party so that they become apathetic at the forthcoming national polls, to the disadvantage of our march to freedom.
President Chamisa has now taken a position that no member of the party should be corruptly removed from contesting. I applaud this decision because leaders take positions. That’s why I always agreed with our late leader Morgan Tsvangirai when it comes to taking decisions. No matter how you will disagree with his decision, it did not deter him from taking a decision. Decisions are taken after serious considerations.
The unpopular candidates are currently on the desperate tactics to corruptly get their contestants removed from the race. It will not happen and people will defend their right to have a candidate of their choice to represent the party not removed. I feel pity for the trauma those whose names were removed without explanation are currently going through.
I saw one grown up man collapsing when his name was removed through the chicanery of those contesting against him. The old man is now in psychological trauma that I think he needs counselling. Let everyone interested be given the opportunity to be exposed to the people. Democracy in motion.
Citizens appreciated The Herald for covering him “excessively” alleging that the Alliance Presidential candidate “had the ball” hence was sending “shivers to President Emmerson Mnangagwa” as the country heads for the watershed polls.7

By Paul Nyathi|Spanish Football giants Barcelona flew into South Africa in the morning‚ beat Mamelodi Sundowns 3-1 in the Nelson Mandela Centenary Cup at the FNB Stadium‚ and jetted out that same night having given the South African side a football lesson of a life time.
Without Lionel Messi who came in as a late substitute‚ the Spanish giants wrapped up the match with beautiful goals from Ousmane Dembele in third minute‚ Luis Suarez in the 19th‚ and Andre Gomes in 67th.
Sibusiso Vilakazi pulled a well-earned strike back for Sundowns in the 76th.
A 78‚000-strong crowd at an FNB Stadium sparkling with cellphone lights froze in Arctic temperatures but were warmed by the spectacle of Barcelona on the pitch‚ slugging it out with Sundowns.
What could be learned from the end-to-end football – mostly in the direction of Denis Onyango in Sundowns’ goal‚ but the other way too – was that Downs‚ as they found out at the 2016 Club World Cup‚ do not have a credible defence at this level. But they do have an attack that can trouble the best.
Sundowns’ nightmares in defence started from the third minute when Soumahoro Bangaly – known for such horrible blunders – passed the ball from in front of his area straight to Demebele. The France starlet took the ball forward and, without having to think about it, cracked a finish past Onyango into the top-left corner with a clinical level at which a PSL striker could salivate.
That Sundowns would show skill and ingenuity in attack‚ and Percy Tau be central to that‚ was never in doubt. The little forward went one-on-one with Marc-Andre ter Stegen but‚ attempting a chip simply fed the Barca goalkeeper.
Just before 20 minutes‚ Luis Suarez played a one-two with midfield namesake Denis Suarez to canter through the non-existent defence. The Uruguyan ace finished low past Onyango.
From Tau’s cross‚ Wayne Arendse got a head from a cluster of players that Ter Stegen tipped onto his bar.
Dembele was clear to lob Onyango‚ Hlompho Kekana scrambling back to clear off the line.
Towards the end of the half Dembele only had to turn on the pace to streak past Bangaly‚ and crossed for Denis Suarez to head onto the upright.
Tiyani Mabunda‚ from a Tau pass‚ struck into the side-netting.
Valverde brought all 11 of his 12 substitutes on after the break‚ except the one the crowd was baying for‚ Messi.
The occasion‚ and the pace of thinking of their opponents‚ brought out schoolboy errors from Downs‚ such as when captain Kekana passed across his own box and only found Ruiz de Galarreta to tee up Gomes for Barca’s third.
In the 74th, Messi’s eventual introduction raised the FNB roof.
But it was Tau’s deft little ball through that put Vilakazi into the area to beat second-half Barca keeper Jasper Cillesen that brought out the evening’s biggest roar.
By Paul Nyathi|Children of the war veterans have turned their backs on President Emmerson Mnangagwa vowing that they will make sure that he loses the upcoming elections.
Operating under the banner Children of War Veterans of Zimbabwe Association, the group vowed that they will do everything within their reach to fight to Mnangagwa does not win the elections.
Chairperson of the Association Munyaradzi Shoko told journalists that his Association launched a campaign against Mnangagwa tagged #operationjuntamustfall.
The youthful association accused Mnangagwa of failing to run the country exactly the way former President Robert Mugabe did.
“There is no difference in leadership since Mugabe left,” said Shoko.
“The economy is still as bad as it was before and to make matters worse, the country is now being run by the army and that is not proper,” he said.
The known ZANU PF aligned group said that it will go all out to influence the country to vote against Mnangagwa in the elections set for July or August this year.
Commissioners from the electoral management body, ZEC have unanimously agreed that it is unconstitutional for political parties to be part of the ballot papers procurement process.
Following loud clamours by opposition parties to be included in the process, ZEC commissioners met in Harare on Wednesday to discuss the matter.
ZEC Chairperson, Justice Priscillah Chigumba said the outcome of the meeting was unanimous.
“It was agreed that allowing that to happen would be in violation of the constitution and also impinges on the independence of the electoral body,” she said.
However, the commissioners also unanimously agreed to consider allowing political parties to observe the printing process.
According to Justice Chigumba ZEC will now engage other stakeholders to come up with modalities of how this can be achieved.
“There is no evidence that ZEC’s 2018 elections will be credible if nothing changes” writes Don Chigumba
He is of the opinion that the ZEC is likely To Plunge Zimbabwe Into Chaos Before the 2018 Elections. Below is his opinion piece.
By Don Chigumba
I am writing this piece with the aim of appealing to ZANU PF and ZEC to seek wisdom from above before handling sensitive electoral issues.
The procurement/printing of the ballots, inspection of the voters’ roll by an independent body, dropping employees who are also in Zimbabwe’s security organs from ZEC and inclusion of the stakeholders in the process are key issues to a credible, transparent, free and fair poll.
It is evident that the ZANU PF government has totally refused to implement electoral reforms because of the reasons best known to them. The parliament (ZANU PF MPs in particular) are not ready to speed up the implementation of electoral reforms.
I got shocked when some sections of the media quoted ZEC saying that there is no legal provision for it to involve political parties in its procurement process for the ballot paper and printing. Such kind of utterances could have been avoided because they will fuel citizens’ suspicious on the level of transparency and credibility of the 2018 elections. The statement is likely to push opposition followers to their political boiling point.
ZEC should develop skills of handling angry and hungry people for the sake of peace in Zimbabwe. ZEC should know that there is no legal provision that can stop them from involving stakeholders in the election process.
ZEC should be by now working towards neutralizing temper among the opposition forces. The elections body should study carefully their statements before disseminating them for the public consumption.
Why is ZEC not willing to involve its stakeholders in the procurement of ballot papers? If stakeholders are involved, Zimbabweans will be able to share collective accountability and responsibility of the election process and outcome. Such action will definitely ensure that peace prevails in Zimbabwe during and after elections.
The credibility of the next Zimbabwean leader should be rooted in the conduct and process of the 2018 election. ZEC should make sure that the forthcoming harmonised polls are conducted under a transparent, free and peaceful atmosphere.
We cannot risk going into an election where opposition parties are disgruntled. This is not good for a credible poll. The demands by other stakeholders especially opposition should not be taken for granted and ZEC should move fast and address their demands before chaos reigns in our country.
Instead of addressing the demands of opposition parties in Zimbabwe, ZEC is busy adding salt to their injury. The suffering, unemployment and people’s expectations have already reached a boiling point and the government and ZEC should be careful with what they say and do.
There are allegations in the media that Webster Shamu was caught pants down with marked ballot papers in his car during the primary elections of ZANU PF. These allegations are dangerous because if party heavy weights like Shamu (who is a minister) are caught with marked ballot papers, what may stop him/them from tempering with ballot papers for a national election?
ZEC should therefore make sure that all political parties/stakeholders are involved in the procurement of ballot papers. The opposition is afraid of ‘election ballot thieves’ who are ministers and political gurus. If it is true that Shamu was found with marked ballots during the ZANU PF elections, ZEC should be worried and President Mnangagwa should force him to resign.
In conclusion, President Mnangagwa refused to implement the election reforms and ZANU PF MPs boycotted bills for election reforms in parliament.
Today, ZEC is claiming that there is no legal provision for stakeholders to be involved in their procurement process. All these allegations pushed the patience of opposition supporters to their limit and ZEC should take necessary actions to address this situation or accept responsibility in case of chaos and disorder in the country.
They once said ‘people’s voice is the voice of God’. Therefore, ZEC and the government should be worried about the ‘shut down’ threats from the MDC alliance. There is no evidence that ZEC’s 2018 elections will be credible and if nothing changes, Unity Government may not be overruled. ZEC should therefore be condemned now for brewing disaster and chaos.

By Paul Nyathi|Prominent Harare businessman and owner of Kurai Coaches Bus Services MacCloud Zvavaviri Mapanga was shot dead by his wife on Monday.
Mapanga died at his Strathaven home in Harare after he was shot by his United Kingdom-based wife, Bridget Makaza, who accused him of marrying a third wife.
Makaza (34), of 56 Kenworth, Coventry in the UK, appeared before Harare magistrate Nyasha Vhitorini on Wednesday facing murder charges.
The matter was remanded to Thursday for bail ruling after her lawyer, Tungamirai Muganiri, unsuccessfully challenged her placement on remand, arguing his client had been detained for more than the stipulated 48 hours before being brought to court .
It is the State’s case that on May 14 this year at around 3am, Makaza who was angry over Mapanga’s decision to marry another wife and drew a pistol before fatally shooting the bus operator three times with a revolver while he was deep in his sleep.
In a bid to cover up the offence, Makaza allegedly screamed for help, claiming they had been attacked by robbers.
Neighbours rushed to the scene following the alleged false alarm, but Makaza drove off and dumped the firearm along Mukuvisi River before proceeding to Mabelreign Police Station, where she filed a robbery report.

Opinion By ZimEye.com reader Nicholas Musiwa|That song by Cde Chinx called “Hondo Yeminda”.
We need to listen to that song objectively in the context of the British and the Americans playing part in African politics in general, and in particular Zimbabwe.
He was ZANU, yes. He beat people, yes. But what’s the message in that song? What we are seeing the British and the Americans doing right now against the majority of Zimbabwe represented by MDC (as also represented by ZAPU), to want to give ZANU lifeline (power again), is not what Chinx meant in that song?

By Paul Nyathi|The Nelson Chamisa led opposition MDC Alliance coalition has expressed displeasure at the British Government’s $100 million benevolence extended to the Zimbabwe government.
The British government this week took the financial world by surprise when it penned a $100 million loan deal with the Zimbabwean government which will see the British release working capital and infrastructure loans to Zimbabwean companies through Standard Bank for the first time in twenty years.
The move has not been received favourable by the MDC Alliance finance and economic official Tendai Biti who feels that it is a mistimed endorsement of the ruling ZANU PF government shortly before the crunch 2018 elections.
Media reports indicate that Biti expressed displeasure with what he sees as the UK’s sudden pro President Emmerson Mnangagwa policies, especially ahead of crunch elections expected in July.
“This attempt to put lipstick on a crocodile is most unfortunate,” The Financial Times of Britain quotes Biti, referring to President Mnangagwa’s crocodile nickname.
“The elections are only a few months away. Let’s see the quality of this election first.” said Biti urging foreign governments to wait bankrolling Zimbabwe until credible elections take place.
President Mnangagwa has been attracting a lot of sympathy from the international community with his promises to hold a credible election this year.
Opposition MDC Alliance coalition officials point out that he was for years a powerful figure in former President Robert Mugabe’s autocratic regime and is leading ZANU PF, the party that has ruled since independence in 1980, into the poll.
Zimbabwe has been starved of foreign loans since it defaulted on its debt to the International Monetary Fund in 2001 following a dispute with the international community over chaotic land redistribution exercise executed by Mugabe and ZANU PF which Mnangagwa is now leading.
By Paul Nyathi|The British Government has for the first time in over twenty years extended a direct commercial loan deal to Zimbabwe.
The deal sees the UK team up with Standard Chartered Bank to lend $100m to Zimbabwean companies in what will be the British government’s first to the southern African nation’s private sector in more than 20 years.
The loan is the biggest sign of renewed relations between the UK and Zimbabwe since London imposed sanctions on former President Robert Mugabe’s regime in the early 2000s.
The deal comes up following Mugabe’s forced resignation in November in a “soft coup” that ended his 37-year rule.
The CDC, Britain’s development finance institution, will share the default risk on loans to provide foreign exchange to Zimbabwean businesses that are struggling to operate.
Nick O’Donohoe, the CDC’s chief executive, said his organisation had been preparing the loan facility since the day Mugabe was replaced by President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
“We think it’s pretty significant,” he said, adding that the last direct CDC loan to Zimbabwe was to a fish farm in 1994.
Mr O’Donohoe sought to head off criticism that western governments should not start lending until after the elections set for July or August this year.
“The planned loans were to the private sector,” he said, and did not represent an endorsement of the Mnangagwa government.
Zimbabwe has been starved of foreign loans since it defaulted on its debt to the International Monetary Fund in 2001 following a dispute with the international community over a chaotic land redistribution exercise initiated by Mugabe.
“Without US dollars, businesses cannot pay for spare parts or inputs,” the CDC said, adding that even those still running were operating at as little as 20 per cent capacity.
The CDC and Standard Chartered are finalising the list of companies that will access the loans that are likely to focus on the food processing, manufacturing and agricultural sectors.
The loans, which will be for up to three years, can be used for capital expenditure or working capital.
“Zimbabwe’s economy has been shattered over the last two decades, yet holds real potential,” Mr O’Donohoe said.
“If a new government in post-election Zimbabwe encourages investment and pro-business policies, Zimbabwe can be one of the great investment success stories of the next decade.”
Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) Governor Dr John Mangudya confirmed the development saying the facility would go a long way in improving the firms’ competitiveness.
“This is a significant move in that it is a medium-term facility to be used for the revival of companies in Zimbabwe,” said Dr Mangudya.
“There has been a deficit of medium-term funding which was not forthcoming to Zimbabwe. This is going to improve the competitiveness of the industry in Zimbabwe in terms of retooling and improvement of productivity.”
Dr Mangudya added: “More importantly, it is a sign of confidence that the international community has found in Zimbabwe. It is a seal of approval or endorsement of Government policies and measures aimed at transforming the economy into a middle income by 2030.
“From the RBZ side, we are pleased by this facility because it will increase exports by Zimbabwean companies.”
The country has attracted over $11 billion in FDI pledges ever since President Mnangagwa took over from Mugabe.

By Own Correspondent| Barely 2 months before elections, a mysterious Zimbabwean woman yesterday suddenly banged out her own new political party.
Ms Carol Nyereyegona, told reporters her new party is called The Chiefs’ Party.
She was asked to reveal her membership and at least the number of followers she commands and she replied refusing to reveal her own party members; failed to reveal even just one.
She was asked on her views about vote-rigging and her reply was, she does not see any vote rigging, real or perceived in the preparations for the upcoming elections.
When asked on what is new about her political party which 127 others are failing to provide the people, she mumbled and fumbled a little, and then said she would be a practical leader and she talked about improving hospitals among other things.
So who is Carol ? She was asked on her profession and she replied saying she’s just a business woman. See video below:

Ms Siwela said Sibanda, Dube and Ngulube broke into her house after destroying her padlock while she was in South Africa visiting her son.
“They came into the house and took my bed, plates, lights for the chickens, containers, blankets and clothes,” she said.
Through their lawyer, Ms Taboka Nyathi of Makiya and Partners, the trio said they never broke into the apartment but entered the unlocked room as they had been ordered to do so.
She said the three denied unlawfully entering the premises as Ms Siwela was not at the time entitled to the place due to non-payment of rent.
“They had the authority to use the premises as an office since Ms Siwela unlawfully kept chickens in a dwelling place for people which was against the municipality rules,” Ms Nyathi said.
“The place had no padlock and was unlocked when they occupied it. The alleged stolen property is still at the address where it was abandoned by Ms Siwela and has been kept there since 2017.”
Mr David Maduna who witnessed the incident said Sibanda, Dube and Ngulube did not steal property as alleged by Ms Siwela.
“They came and asked us to assist them in removing the property and we placed it outside the room. I only saw rags and no blankets in the room,” he said.
Prosecuting, Ms Lilian Nkomo alleged that in July last year, the three went to Castle Arms Hotel, broke a padlock and gained entry into Ms Siwela’s apartment where they stole the property worth $1 136. – state media
ZIMBABWEANS must vote for President Mnangagwa in the upcoming harnonised elections as he is the only one with the capacity to turnaround the economy through cleaning the mess created by his predecessor, Mr Robert Mugabe, Vice President General Constantino Chiwenga (Retired), has said.
Addressing mourners at the burial of Mr Phineas Tagwirei, father to Sakunda Energy Holdings director Mr Kudakwashe Tagwirei, in Shurugwi yesterday, VP Chiwenga said President Mnangagwa had scored big in a short period of time.
He said the country was in a deep mess left by the previous administration. VP Chiwenga said President Mnangagwa was determined to transform the country by turning around the economy.
“President Mnangagwa is the First Secretary of Zanu PF and he is also the party’s Presidential candidate for the forthcoming harmonised elections.
I implore you to vote for him so that our party, A God given party Zanu PF, will remain in power,” he said.
VP Chiwenga said President Mnangagwa had proved his capabilities after successfully stewarding Command Agriculture programme, which played a significant role in averting hunger and ensuring food security in the country.
“We all know that the country was grappling with perennial droughts and hunger. As leadership we set down and deviced a plan to avert hunger and ensure food security in the country. We came up with the Command Agriculture programme and was superintended by President Mnangagwa when he was still the Vice President. He was, however not alone, he was assisted by Mr Tagwirei of Sakunda and Agriculture, Land and Rural Resettlement Minister, Air Chief Marshal (retired) Perrance Shiri.
“We all came together the military and the business community to ensure that the programme was successful. That is why President Mnangagwa is here to mourn with you because Mr Tagwirei is hard working and has made a significant contribution towards revitalisation of the agricultural sector,” he said.
VP Chiwenga commended Mr Tagwirei for complementing Government efforts to avert hunger and ensure food security at household level through his unwavering support for the Command Agriculture Programme.
Speaking at the same gathering, Mr Tagwirei said it was incumbent upon every Zimbabwean citizen to rebuild the country’s economy.
Mr Tagwirei said the corporate world should complement Government efforts in turning around the economy.- state media
By Own Correspondent| The controversial Presidential Advisor Chris Mutsvangwa yesterday received a reply from Mash West Minister Webster Shamu who he has accused of causing his downfall in Norton.
Last week Mutsvangwa claimed that Shamu is a G40 member and that he is the one who made him lose the constituency run up in party primaries.
But Shamu yesterday told ZimEye, Mutsvangwa’s words were without substance. He said he had “nothing whatsoever” to do with the politics of Norton.
The World Health Organisation has banned industrially produced chips and other fatty fried foods from the global food supply to eliminate the risk of non communicable diseases that are killing millions of people around the world every year.
The foods make up the bulk of an average working person’s meals, especially lunch.
The WHO has petitioned governments around the world to phase out the foods in the next five years to promote healthier living.
Use of trans fats in preparing the foods, is said to be what makes them dangerous.
The organisation said industrially-produced trans-fatty acids from the foods are to blame for diseases like hypertension, cancer, sugar diabetes and obesity.
Industrially-produced trans fats according to WHO are contained in hardened vegetable fats, such as margarine and ghee, and are often present in snack food, baked foods and fried foods.
A recent study revealed that Zimbabwe has a hypertension prevalence of 35 percent in women and 24 in men.
In a statement yesterday, WHO Director-General, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesu said there are healthier alternatives that can be used without affecting taste or cost of food.
“WHO calls on governments to use the REPLACE action package to eliminate industrially-produced trans-fatty acids from the food supply. Implementing the six strategic actions in the package will help achieve the elimination of trans-fat, and represent a major victory in the global fight against cardiovascular disease,” said Dr Ghebreyesu.
The REPLACE package is an acronym for review, promote, legislate, assess, create and enforce strategic actions to ensure the prompt, complete, and sustained elimination of industrially-produced trans-fats from the food supply.
Dr Ghebreyesu said action is needed in low- and middle-income countries, where controls of use of industrially-produced trans-fats are often weaker to ensure that the benefits are felt equally around the world.
“Trans fat is an unnecessary toxic chemical that kills and there’s no reason people around the world should continue to be exposed. Eliminating their use around the world can save millions of lives so we make progress against cardiovascular disease, another of the world’s leading causes of preventable death,” reads the same statement.
The Elimination of industrially-produced trans fats from the global food supply has been identified as one of the priority targets of WHO’s strategic plan, the draft 13th General Programme of Work which will guide the work of WHO in 2019 – 2023.
The 13th General Programme of Work is on the agenda of the 71st World Health Assembly that will be held in Geneva on May 21 – 26, 2018 and the session will be chaired by Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa.- state media
Fred Dube (40)State Media – Police in Bulawayo have arrested a suspected murderous robber who is part of a three-man gang linked to armed robbery and murder incidents in the city and Matabeleland North.
The gang allegedly carjacked two Honda Fit drivers in Bulawayo and killed them in cold blood before stealing their vehicles.
Police have linked the same gang to a third robbery and killing at a shop in Inyathi.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Precious Simango said detectives using their internal intelligence unit gathered information that Fred Dube (40), one of the suspects in the robberies and killings was hiding at his rural home.
They raided Dube’s homestead in Nothi village in Lower Gweru on Friday and recovered material connecting him to the murder and carjacking of two Honda Fit drivers in Bulawayo in March.
She said one of Dube’s accomplices, Never Mpofu, was arrested last month and a third member of the gang, Thinkwell Moyo, is still on the run.
“Police investigations have led to the arrest of the second suspect linked to the carjacking, robbery and murder of three people in Bulawayo and Inyathi in Matabeleland North.
“Two of the murders occurred in Bulawayo where Honda Fit drivers were killed in Killarney suburb and near McDonald Bricks in Cement Siding,” she said.
In Killarney, the gang allegedly killed Tinashe Hunyanyiwa (32) and got away with the Honda Fit he was driving.
Insp Simango said the Hunyanyiwa’s Honda Fit is yet to be recovered.
She said Dube, on being arrested, developed an epileptic seizure and fell unconscious.
“He was referred to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) where he has been admitted.
The police spokesperson said detectives recovered material that links Dube to the triple homicide cases.
“He was found in possession of a laptop, mats for Honda Fit vehicles and a cellphone tablet that was stolen in a robbery and murder incident that occurred in Inyathi,” said Insp Simango.
She appealed for information that could lead to Moyo’s arrest.
“We believe he is very dangerous and may even commit more crimes. We are calling on people who may have information that may lead to his arrest to come forward. Those with information on his whereabouts should contact any nearest police station,” said Insp Simango.
She urged motorists to install trackers on their vehicles to make it easy to locate them once they are stolen.- state media
By Farai D Hove| Vice President Kembo Mohadi has bounced back into office fit for work as it were.
Mohadi was 4 weeks ago reported to be seriously unwell and flown to South Africa for treatment.
2 weeks ago a rumour spread like Wildfire claiming he had died. But ZimEye.com sources revealed he was now out of hospital and moving about contrary to the speculative reports. His estranged wife, Tambudzani told ZimEye the man was now out of hospital and no longer in South Africa as previously reported by president Emmerson Mnangagwa.
True to the ZimEye exclusive articles, Mohadi has since swung his way back into office. The state media narrates how he has gone back to work and is now officiating at meetings.
He is quoted discouraging against child marriages.
“I therefore call on our traditional, church and community leaders to unite in fighting these devastating scourges,” he said at a function in Harare.
“In the same vein, I urge all of our families to institute measures such as having an inheritance plan to bridge the intergenerational gap that exists between our youth and our older citizens. Our country needs to also take advantage of the youth bulge and harness the benefits that come from having the youths actively participating in our development discourse,” he added.
By Farai D Hove| President Emmerson Mnangagwa has responded to questions on the recent firing of nurses.
More than 15,000 nurses were sent home as punishment for striking over their unpaid allowances and poor working conditions. Up to the time of the strike, the employer, Mnangagwa’s government, had dodged paying their allowances for several years.
To add salt to injury, Mnangagwa later came out to declare that he taught the nurses a lesson that, “this country has its rulers and your cannot defy them”
Speaking via video on Wednesday, Mnangagwa refused to apologise as demanded by members of the public who felt the ruling party caused the death of many people by squandering millions of dollars importing brand new cars for mere election campaigning at a time the ZANU PF run state was failing to pay nurses.
Mnangagwa speaking in response, claimed that nurses had become politicised.
Speaking in response, Mnangagwa replied complaints from one Zimbabwean saying, “thank you everyone for all your comments and questions. I enjoy hearing from you and I am doing my best to answer you, both those who agree with me and those who do not. In the new Zimbabwe, all views are welcome and everyone is free to speak their mind.

Fiery Zanu PF critic and political analyst, Antony Taruvinga has postulated that the European Union will never donate money to President Emmerson Mnangagwa’ s government.
Taruvinga claimed that the EU was sceptical of Mnangagwa’ s sincerity.
” Nelson Chamisa

Zimbabwe’s inflation rate increased slightly by 0,03 percentage points to 2,71% in April, according to the Zimbabwe National Statistic Agency (Zimstat).
Government apologists have already pointed out that the marginal escalation of inflation is insignificant.
On the other hand government critics believe the inflation rate could be higher than the projected figure.
In March 2018, Zimstat projected the rate of inflation was 2,68%.
“This means prices as measured by the all items CPI (Consumer Price Index) have increased by an average of 2,71 % between April 2017 and April 2018,” Zimstat said.
“The year-on-year inflation rate is determined by the percentage change in the index of the relevant month of the current year compared with the index of the same month in the previous year.”
By Simba Chikanza| ANALYSIS| Many journalists claim that a story has got two sides; but on ZimEye.com we prove that every story has got 12 sides, and the reader must be informed of all the facets. Today I caught up with the provincial minister Webster Shamu on whose head serious allegations of vote rigging have been leveled, and these were seen in videos uploaded yesterday soon after the end of the Zanu PF primaries.
AUDIO-
So just now, I have just interviewed the “cremora” minister Webster Shamu.
He denies the vote rigging allegations and videos uploaded yesterday …he even challenges people to provide evidence.
On his historical Cremora praises of Robert Mugabe, I ask him if he regrets it and if he recommends the same treatment on the new President, Emmerson Mnangagwa. He calls it mere salutation. He denies that the greatest mistake of the Old Govt, was human worship – “kunamata munhu wenyama kwavo.” He still insists that it was mere salutation.
I ask him on what he has to offer the new generation and he says he is among other things building a state of the art school in his constituency.
I also ask him about the claim of Joyce Mujuru shooting down a helicopter, and he says it was never his story, we were taught and indoctrinated during the war when I joined. I joined later than Mujuru, he says.
By Paul Nyathi|As the 2018 election draws closer, the ruling ZANU PF which is enjoying a monopoly of the state run national broadcasters has all but extended its election campaign mouthpiece through the introduction of the Zimpapers run television to be launched soon.
Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Ltd was granted the television broadcasting licence by the Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ).
This makes the government run media house the first and only media house in the country with a footprint in publishing and digital, radio broadcasting, printing and packaging and now television broadcasting.
Zimpapers Group had already set up Zimpapers Television Network (ZTN) as a production house where it has been producing mostly political documentaries featuring ZANU PF and liberation war events.
The ruling party currently enjoys use of the only television channel, ZBC TV to cover all its election campaign rallies and programmes.
Political analyst and critic Hopewell Chinono described the issuance of a content distribution television license to Zimpapers as a monumental terrible joke.
“The Government of Zimbabwe can’t continue playing this game where it gives broadcast licenses to its surrogates and expect this to be called media reformation,” he wrote on Facebook.
“It shows lack of foresight and creativity by those in charge of the media “repressive” section of the Government of Zimbabwe.”
President Emmerson Mnangagwa recently indicated that his government is not yet ready to open up the airwaves and will only do so after the elections.
By Paul Nyathi|MDC-T Harare West legislator Ms Jessie Majome says that members of her party youth league have told her to quit parliament and retire to the rural areas and herd donkeys.
Speaking in a very emotional interview on Capital Talk Radio on Tuesday evening, Majome said that she is very touched by the insults and abuse she is getting from members of the party she has served for most of her adult life.
Majome last week announced that she was pulling out of the party primary elections pitting her against 24 year old Joanna Mamombe for the Harare West Constituency seat.
She cited huge electoral irregularities in the party’s electoral system as her reason for pulling out of the primary election.
Majome who claims to have since acceded to calls by the Harare West Constituents to stand as an independent candidate says some party officials were saying she was old and must go herd donkeys in the village. She likened the abuse she is getting to a form of political violence.
In the interview Majome said the MDC-T youths had created a WhatsApp group which they used to continuously attack her.
“I have experienced incredible abuse on social media particularly WhatsApp run in some quarters in the party. It seems like youths chauvinism,” she said.
“I have very malicious accusations. For example, they say I am old and must ship out. One of my competitors is a 24- year-old girl. They say you are old, get out and go. They say chembere ngadziende kumusha dzindofudza madhongi.”
Ms Majome said ironically, at 46, she belonged to the same generation as Mr Chamisa and was wondering why she was deemed “too old”.
“Chamisa is young and is 40 years old. I am six years older than him. I am of that generation. How is it that when it comes to Jessie Majome she is old and must herd donkeys wherever?”
She also said some party officials were saying she had been MP for 10 years and must give others a chance.
Majome said there were other senior party officials like Mr Tapiwa Mashakada and Mr Innocent Gonese, who had been MPs for over 10 years.
Majome also confirmed ZimEye.com’s revelations that the MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa has been pressured by party leaders to engage with her not to contest as an independent candidate.
She said a senior official in Mr Chamisa’s office, Sessel Zvidzai, phoned and indicated that he wanted to meet her.
Majome also confirmed that party chairman Morgan Komichi, also sought audience with her and they had a discussion.
“After hearing the news of my decision, Mr Morgan Komichi approached me. I availed myself to him because I respect the party leadership.
“Mr Komichi gave me an opportunity to explain myself while he listened. After the discussion, he indicated that he would get back to me,” she said.
Ms Majome said she was still MDC-T and was ready for dialogue.
“I am MDC-T. That is my party. I love it dearly. I am not fighting my party. I do want my party to succeed in the election and I am open for dialogue,” she said.
By Paul Nyathi|The Mayor of Harare Councillor Ben Manyenyeni has been humiliated by the City of Harare authorities after the city removed a public toilet he had set up in a hurried deal in the city centre.
The Mayor lamented the City’s move in a facebook post on his official page on Wednesday morning. Manyenyeni felt the humiliation requires for city mayors to be accorded executive powers to avoid such incidents.
Wrote the Mayor:
When we say the City needs an Executive Mayor (as in all PROPER dispensations!) you people don’t seem to appreciate the agony of doing even the most obvious of things.
I drove past NBS Bank yesterday morning and I stopped when I saw these crowds who have been in the queue for up to 4 days – to get pension money out of our cashless banks.
In discussions with long-suffering pensioners they begged for toilet facilities.
I knew very well that a city council “solution” would take FOREVER so I called long-standing friend Philip Mataranyika of the robust Nyaradzo Group for a Corporate Social Responsibility-SOS from their vibrant Sahwira Events company.
It took less than three minutes for him to say they would dispatch a mobile toilet immediately for a week and they did.
Our job, our gap, their kind help.
I drove past this morning – NO mobile toilet but my driver swore he actually saw it in place yesterday.
They have been chased away by council – they must apply for a licence!!
We are so so competent and compliant when we avoid what’s necessary.
When I said in my State of the City Address in April Harare City Council needs a sjambok this is the kind of crap that needs a sjambok.
STUPID……no apology.
Thank you, Sahwira Events and thank you, Nyaradzo Holdings.
By Paul Nyathi|A 61 year old man who was being accused of stealing more than R10 million from a company he was working for in South Africa was on Tuesday acquitted of the charges against him.
Reginald Bernstein (61), originally from Bulawayo but residing at 30 Canterbury, Avondale could not believe it when a Victoria Falls magistrate Rangarirayi Gakanje cleared him to go home as a free man.
Gakanje ruled that there were no compelling reasons to have him extradited to South Africa for trial after the State failed to prove its case.
Bernstein had been in custody for about eight weeks following his arrest in March, as his lawyer Mr Givemore Mvhiringi of Mvhiringi and Associates challenged the extradition.
Discharging him, the magistrate said: “Both the State and their counterparts in South Africa failed to produce enough evidence to this court to prove that the accused committed the offence. There were no witnesses who were brought to testify against the accused. The defence said that the accused was authorised by the company he was working for to cause payment to First National Bank and there was no one who came to this court to dispute all this,” said Ms Gakanje.
The magistrate said the court also considered that the State failed to produce certified documents or an affidavit as required for extradition in terms of Section 32 and Section 25 of Extradition Act Chapter 9:08.
“I therefore do hereby discharge the accused and order his release from custody with immediate effect,” said Ms Gakanje.
The State’s case was that Bernstein allegedly stole some money from his employer in neighbouring South Africa.
“Between April 7, 2009 and November 27, 2015 and at Danger Golf Estate in Gauteng Province, the accused took cash amounting to R4 214 177,52 which belonged to Dainfern Golf Estate and Country Club Home Owners Association. During the same period, he misrepresented that he was authorised to cause payment to be effected to First National Bank of South Africa for maintenance work and defrauded the company of R6 616 172,39,” prosecutors alleged.

In a case of precedents, a sitting magistrate has ordered a minor to pay $30 maintenance.
The Mutare based magistrate, Nyasha Kuture slapped the 17-year-old minor to pay $30 per month maintenance for his child.
The teenager cannot be named for legal reasons.
He had pleaded with the court offering to pay $20 per month as he said he was unemployed after impregnating the mother, Chance Choronga (18).
Choronga sued the teenager saying he was not contributing to the child’s upkeep.
She told the court she was left with no other option than to seek legal recourse.
There was drama when the male teenager had told the court he had been forced to be intimate with Choronga by the complainant’s mother.
But in another contrary witness statement, he later told the court he was in love with Choronga and begged her to come back home. He said, “I love this woman your worship. I am asking her in front of the court that she returns home so that we can be a family again.”
By Paul Nyathi|Following the surprise allowances back pay to government nurses, doctors and nurses have also come trailblazing on government demanding processing of their own outstanding payments.
Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe Obert Masaraure declared in an interview on Tuesday that the teachers have been irked into action by the payments made to the nurses.
Masaraure said that the teachers have rejected the 15% salary increase offered to them by the government demanding that salaries be pegged on the poverty datum line.
The teachers are also demanding for an immediate payment of their outstanding cash in lieu of leave.
“We are disturbed that the government decides to easily listen to nurses but turn a blind eye to the teachers,” he said.
Masaraure warned that the teachers will definitely be going on a mass job action anytime to cement their grievances to government.
The Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association spokesperson Dr Mxolisi Ngwenya has also raised concerns that government has failed to stick terms agreed on at the end of their one month job education in April.
Speaking in an interview on Tuesday Ngwenya said that the government failed to settle the dues as agreed but have been able to settle the nurses due.
Dr Ngwenya said that government through the Health Services Board paid their salaries in April as agreed but failed to stick to the agreement in May.
Ngwenya warned that the doctors will do anything possible to push the Health Services Board to release their payments immediately.

By Paul Nyathi|Shocked nurses who got an unexpected windfall from government have been assured to use the money without fear as there is no mistake from government.
Government employed nurses on Monday received lump sum payments of up to $5 000 as payment of outstanding allowances leaving some of them in disbelief of the “huge” amounts of money deposited into their accounts.
“Do not use the money before getting clarification. It might be a mistake. The moment the Ministry (of Health and Child Care) realises the error, you may be garnished and go up to next year without getting paid,” warned a nurse in a WhatsApp chat group.
Speculation was thrown around with the major source of confusion being the huge differences in the amounts individual nurses received.
However, Ministry of Health and Child Care permanent secretary Retired Major General Dr Gerald Gwinji yesterday allayed the fears saying the payments were in order.
He said nurses should not be afraid to spend the money as it was what the Government owed them.
“The amounts reflected in some of our nurses’ personal accounts are not at all out of order. A lot of our nurses were wrongly assimilated when Government rationalised the Civil Service between 2008 and 2009,” said Dr Gwinji.
“Most were placed in grades below where they should have been resulting in their being prejudiced of the correct level of remuneration including allowances like housing and transport from 2010 until early this year. So cumulatively they were owed money by Government.”
Dr Gwinji said nurses who retired or resigned recently after having served during the period, were likely to get the money as well.
“It’s only technically sound to address the issue of retired nurses who were working during the period and Government may pay them as well.
“With the finalisation of this corrective exercise SSB has begun a phased approach to pay off these accumulated shortfalls, for some running into several thousand dollars given the time under prejudice. Recipients should therefore not be afraid to utilise their earnings. However if anyone is in doubt they can always approach our Human Resources Departments to get the necessary assurances,” said Dr Gwinji.
“I got $5 200 in my account and I am not sure where it came from. We just decided to first wait because this was unexpected,” said one of the nurses.
“We did receive different amounts of money and we are not yet sure what criterion was used. Some of my juniors received more money compared to what I got and we hope to get clarity from the Health Services Board,” said another one who spoke on condition of anonymity.

May I say I was young when I came to know and listen to his very popular music of which all of his songs are still a hit with Zimbabweans from all walks of life and as a matter of fact I play his music on social media and not even a single time will I do a show without his songs being requested. For you mntomdala to claim if the Legend comes he will not even fill McDonald Wall is not true. Angitsho ukuthi lilamanga Baba uMhlanga kodwa ngithi elikukhulumileyo akusilo qiniso, that was far fetched. We may agree the Legend did have not that much support but we know exactly the circumstances he operated under and at that point in time his followers including myself did not have the mentality we now have hence the demand for his comeback to perfoming.

A lot of promoters have publicly made a call to try and convince him to perform unfortunately he has turned down their pleas.
We know for a fact usukhulile sibili kunganjani uzibe kancane ukukhuluma ngezinye izinto kumbe ubuze ungakawuvuli. I am a hardcore fan of yourself and Magee as such I feel obliged to respond for okungasiloqiniso okukhulumileyo kodwa akusomanga ngoba abadala vele akutshiwo ukuthi balamanga noma bekhulume okungamanga. Kwanele Sibanda on her way to the court holding cells.
By Paul Nyathi|Police in Bulawayo have arrested a second woman in a case involving trafficking of cocaine valued at over $300 000.
26 year old South African based Kwanele Sibanda was picked up by detectives in the streets of Bulawayo on a tip off after she sneaked into the country to follow up the arrest of her collegue Tholiwe Tshuma last month.
Sibanda allegedly sent Tshuma to collect 3,14kgs of cocaine with an estimated street value of $314 300 on her behalf at Bulawayo Post Office while she was in South Africa last month.
She was not asked to plead to charges of dealing in dangerous drugs before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Sheunesu Matova.
The magistrate advised her to look for a lawyer and remanded her in custody to May 28 saying the State had provided solid reasons to remand her in custody.
“For today, the State has managed to furnish me with compelling reasons to remand you in custody,” he said.
Prosecuting, Mr Tawurai Hondoyemoto opposed bail saying Sibanda could flee the country and abscond court as she had been using an expired passport in the neighbouring country.
“The accused person is a Zimbabwean who has been residing in South Africa for the past 10 years. Her Zimbabwean passport expired and she did not bother to renew it. The information at hand is that she came to the country by means of border jumping and she might not come to court as she managed to enter the country without proper documents,” he said.
Sibanda said she had a passport, but it had expired hence she intended to renew it in Harare.
“I have a passport though it has expired and it is not true that I have been in South Africa for 10 years. I have never seen the cocaine or dealt with it,’ she said.
The prosecutor said on April 11 this year, Sibanda contacted Tshuma who is already on remand and asked her to collect the cocaine on her behalf.
“Sibanda phoned Tshuma and told her to collect 3,143kg of cocaine from Bulawayo Post Office and forward it to South Africa where she would receive it,” the prosecutor said.
The court heard that Tshuma was stopped and searched by the detectives and was found in possession of cocaine weighing 3,143kg with a street value of $314 300.
Tshuma will be back in court on June 1.
Her lawyer Ms Taboka Nyathi of Makiya and Partners said Tshuma was not aware that the parcel contained cocaine and was only told that she was supposed to receive fabrics and forward them to South Africa hence she submitted her details.
State Media- MDC-T is today expected to announce constituencies where it will hold primary elections before Saturday following its aspiring candidates’ failure to reach consensus in the constituencies.
The party recently resolved not to hold primary elections opting for consensus building to avoid tensions and violence in the party.
However, even its consensus building process where aspiring candidates had to agree among themselves degenerated into violence and protests by some party members.
MDC-T acting national chairman Mr Morgen Komichi yesterday said: “Where consensus building process failed to produce a single candidate the party will release constituencies where internal polls will be held.”
He said on Saturday May 19 the party should have completed the selection exercise. “We expect to be done collecting data by the end of tomorrow,” he said.
Mr Komichi said in Matabeleland region the party is set to hold primary elections in about nine constituencies.
“In Matabeleland North only two constituencies are going for primaries and that is Hwange Central and Hwange West.
“In Bulawayo I need to get my facts right but we had five constituencies reaching consensus and in Matabeleland South we have three that are going for primaries. We had consensus in Gwanda North and Bulilima,” said Mr Komichi.
In Bulawayo the party is set to go for primary elections in Magwegwe, Entumbane-Emakhandeni, Bulawayo South and Pelandaba-Mpopoma constituencies.
In Matabeleland South he said MDC-T will hold primary elections in Umzingwane constituency but did not reveal the other two, saying he did not have details off hand.
Mr Komichi said in the Midlands the party had consensus in Zvishavane-Ngezi and Shurugwi North among other areas.
He said although the party did not reach consensus in all the constituencies he considers the process a success although it needs improving on.
“This is a new practice. Consensus building has not been done before. But it is giving quite encouraging results. I have witnessed so many Members of Parliament who have agreed on a common candidate and councillors agreeing on a common candidate,” said Mr Komichi.
“It’s a process that we need to improve and build on. It’s a new form of democracy which we are nurturing in our party, it lowers the level of tension. It’s quite good. I like it.” – state media
THE founder and leader of Bread of Life Ministries in Bulawayo who disobeyed a court order to pay maintenance is in arrears of $1 858 and has dragged his ex-wife to the Maintenance Court seeking a downward variation from $250 to $30.
Last year when Pastor Muvirimi was ordered to pay $250 for the upkeep of two minor children he refused saying he was poor and could not afford the amount. He left the court in a huff without collecting bank account details for his ex-wife, Ms Dudzai Kurehwandishe, to deposit the money.
Pastor Muvirimi appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Mr Sheunesu Matova seeking a downward variation from $250 to $30 a month.
“You worship, I don’t have a fixed salary. I rely on tithes and offerings from the congregants. The problem is that there are a few congregants in my church. If you ask the congregants to pay tithes and offerings they run away from the church because times are hard and money is difficult to come by. These days offerings are hard to come by. I rely on the church and I don’t have any other source of income. I cannot afford $250, if the money is reduced to $30 I will be able to pay it,” he said.
His ex-wife Ms Kurehwandishe rejected the offer of $30.
“He gets a lot of money from tithes, offerings and the pastor’s basket. The last time we were before this honourable court he said he did not have any money and I conducted
investigations only to find out he was lying. $30 is insufficient for two children, I know he can afford $250 and he is lying in court. He recently travelled to Nigeria and he has re-married which is proof he can afford the money I am claiming,” she said.
The court papers show that Pastor Muvirimi is in arrears of $1 858 as he has been defaulting since March 2017 and the couple agreed out of court that he will pay $30 towards the arrears.
“I agree that I am in arrears of $1 858 and I have agreed with Ms Kurehwandishe that I will pay $30 a month towards the arrears from March 2018,” read the court papers.
He said he wanted the money for the upkeep of his children to be reduced to $30 to allow him to pay up the arrears.
Mr Matova varied the money from $250 to $200 a month and ordered Pastor Muvirimi to clear the arrears. – state media
By Talent Gondo| The health services sector has received a major boost amid revelations that nurses have been awarded their outstanding allowances as agreed during negotiations which ended the crippling strike last April.
The Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) advised its members that the government has acceded to some of its requests following continued engagements woth their employer.
The nurses received between US$800 – US$5 200.
A nurse shows off their pay reflecting in their e wallet yesterday morning
Rural nurses were the major beneficiaries of the development which has seen them smiling all the way to the bank.
In a letter to its members on 15 April 2018, ZINA issued the letter below:
GOOD EVENING COMRADES
We are just coming from a meeting with HSB, MOHCC, Minister Parirenyatwa, Chief Charumbira, Ministry of Finance, Pastors, Elders, Priest(s) and ZINA Executive.
The employer promised to effect the following allowances by Thursday 19 April 2018:
Night duty allowance to be paid by the following grades DI -D4 at a rate of $217-$303 (unclaimable).
Standby allowance for Rural Health Centre Staff to be paid at a rate of $240 for grades C5 to D$ unclaimable.
Post Basic allowance $70 for one and $80 for two.
Grading and advancement arrears to be paid on the same date.
Rationalisation of allowances to be disclosed tomorrow
We are almost there
Aluta
However, there were mixed feelings among the nurses as some of them still felt that it was a mistake. Others said they did not understand the criteria used in making the payments.
“I still can’t believe that this money is finally here and it is mine,” said one nurse stationed at a government hospital in Mashonaland West.
The nurse however said colleagues were disgruntled that they had received US$800 yet others had got US$5 000.
“This is good news for me and I am motivated to offer the best of service because at least government has shown commitment to addressing our plight,” said another nurse at a local hospital in the capital Harare.
MDC leader Nelson Chamisa, cancelled his presser slated for Tuesday morning.
Chamisa it was hoped, was going to address the thorny matter of the Jessie Majome – Joana Mamombe debacle. He instead released the below article issue:
MDC Alliance President, Nelson Chamisa
From London to Marange with love
Introduction
It was a tumultuous week in week in which I interacted with Zimbabweans in the United Kingdom and came back home to Zimbabwe where I spoke to the young and the old in rural Buhera, Makoni and Marange all in Manicaland province.
From London to Zimbabwe, I interacted with fellow Zimbabweans all brimming with hope and optimism for the country they so much love. For those talented and professional Zimbabweans in the United Kingdom, it was sad that they were slugging it out in foreign lands because of lack of opportunities back home.
We pledge to correct that situation when we form the next government in the next few months.
For those in Zimbabwe, they are holding out their hope that their vote for the MDC-T Alliance in the next few months will positively change their fortune.
Zimbabweans have waited too long for positive change and they rightly believe this is their year.
We will not fail them.
A heartening spirit in London
I was in London for the better part of last week where I addressed think-tanks, met with ordinary Zimbabweans and interacted with the government and the Parliament of the United Kingdom.
I also had the opportunity with investors and business people.
I was heartened by the spirit of Zimbabweans who, though away from home, retain a positive spirit about better prospects for the country. I addressed a mammoth crowd in Bedford and assured Zimbabweans that we are determined to correct things in the next few months so that they can be able to come back home.
We told the proper script to the UK government about where we are as a country and that they should join the rest of the international country in calling for a free, fair and credible election so that a legitimate government can begin to transact the affairs of the country.
We had occasion to discuss a host of issues with the UK government. In particular, we took the opportunity to thank both the government and the people for their role s an inexhaustible fountain of charity and solidarity with the people of Zimbabwe in their struggle for democracy, the colonial period notwithstanding.
We also took the opportunity to commit ourselves to re-engagement on an equal platform and to the readmission of Zimbabwe into the family of nations.
We underscored the need for Zimbabwe to return to legitimacy through free and fair elections. We further requested the UK government to have a clear definition of what constitutes a free and fair election, complete with clear benchmarks and standards against which an assessment of the credibility of the election can be measured.
We also underscored the importance of the scaffolding and stewardship of the transition in Zimbabwe to ensure that the process is guaranteed by credible bodies for the subsistence and sustenance of peace before, during and after the elections.
We also emphasized that the UK government and others in the international community must guard against being hoodwinked into believing in the empty rhetoric of free and fair elections without the attendant tangibles to validate those claims on the ground.
From Buhera to Marange
On Saturday, I addressed a rally at Murambinda growth point in Buhera West. Just like elsewhere in the country, the land of Buhera is still shaken following the loss of a national icon and a gallant fighter for democracy, our late leader Dr. Morgan Richard Tsvangirai, who was born in the area.
Zimbabwe is a country of heroes and heroines; a cradle of fighters prepared to pay the ultimate price for their liberty and freedoms. I told the people of Buhera about the thousands who lost their lives during the liberation struggle. I reminded them of other heroes in the struggle for democracy who came from the area such as the late president Tsvangirai as well as talent Mabika and Tichaona Chiminya who were brutally murdered in post-independent Zimbabwe.
The weather-beaten people of Buhera for better prospects in the country, Justas the people at Rukweza business centre in Makoni South, where I addressed another huge crowd on Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, I had the occasion to address the despondent people of Marange; this rich land of alluvial diamonds that was ravaged by a corrupt and avaricious government that spirited away billions of dollars leaving a hopeless and forlorn people with nothing to show for the wealth that god gave them.
Manicaland depicts a sad national story. This is the site of the once-famous Kondozi, the land known for its rich Tanganda fields and the rich diamond pickings that are all a heart-rending story of the past.
We need to bring back the glory days of Manicaland; days where the entirety of Zimbabwe was a land of grandeur and splendor.
In this rich land where diamonds were spirited away is a derelict infirmary called St Andrews hospital. Given this richness of the land, one would have expected to see a well-equipped modern hospital but alas; all we saw was a struggling health institution with no staff and no drugs in this supposedly rich land of plenty.
I had the opportunity to hold prayers with some of the infirmary’s patients and staff after hearing horrendous stories about the challenges that the hospital faces. The challenges include accommodation challenges, poor remuneration of staff, lack of drugs and other ancillaries as well as dilapidated infrastructure.
I also took the opportunity of my presence in the area to interact with community leaders in the area.
I had inspiring moments with him and other community leaders in the area.
Later, I heard a very sad story about the collapsed infrastructure in the area and how minister Chris Mushowe, who comes from the area, ensured that there was a tarred road only up to his homestead.
The people there said the “honourable” Minister at one time removed a transformer from the area after he was defeated by the MDC-T’s Shua Mudiwa in 2008.
This is the calibre of leaders that continue to drop off the decrepit Zanu PF conveyer belt of “national” leaders!
Come the next election, we pledge to end this wanton tale of selfishness; this distressing yarn of inept leadership that continues to curse our land.
Our incoming government will infuse new hope and optimism in the lives of the long-suffering people of Zimbabwe.
Our track record speaks for itself.
One Zimbabwe, one people.
One Zimbabwe, one future.
One Zimbabwe, one vision.
God bless Zimbabwe.
God bless Africa
Behold the new!
Highlanders coach Madinda Ndlovu is disappointed with his players’ performance
following Bosso’s 0-0 draw against lowly Yadah on
Sunday.
Yadah put up a gritty display in their match against
the Bulawayo Giants coming from the back of a 5-0
drubbing at the hands of log leaders Ngezi Platinum.
Highlanders coach Madinda Ndlovu said he
was not happy with the performance of his players in
an interview with Chronicle.
Madinda also said if Yadah had managed to
score, the result could have been different as they
could have easily grabbed all three points.
“We should abide by our theme and objectives for
this year. Our objective is to try and play exciting
football,” said Ndlovu.
“ I didn’t talk much about the result on
Saturday or the three points which were on offer.
“I talked about the team not playing well.
We
want to play good and exciting football- which brings
people to the stadium.”, Said Madinda.
Bosso bounced back from a disappointing loss
against ZPC Kariba to pick up a point and maintain
3rd position on the log.
Ngezi Platinum coach Tonderai Ndiraya has remained modest despite his side’ s fine run.
The Platinum side from Ngezi occupy top spot on
the ladder and have a three point lead over the
second-placed FC Platinum going into their
matchday 12.
They were convincing 2-1 winners over Caps United
on Sunday .
Lauded for their attacking style, Ngezi have proved -in
the past weeks- they can win even when playing well
below their best.
Ndiraya has refused to get carried away by the dream start to the season.
“We’ve got a 24-hour rule; when we play and we
win, we celebrate for 24 hours. We will not be
distracted from our focus, we’ve played 11 games
and we still have 69 points to play for – it’s still a long
journey.
We
need to stay focused and start thinking of our next
match against Bulawayo City, who have a new
coach, and that is going to be a tricky assignment,”
said Ndiraya.
Angry revellers here have blamed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’ s government for the shortage to beer in the province.
There is a glaring shortage of beer in the province and angry revellers are calling on Mnangagwa’ s government to sort out the foreign currency debacle in the country.
Delta, the leading supplier of beverages in Zimbabwe has indicated that the shortage of beer is a direct result of the dearth of foreign currency.
“Mnangagwa must solve the issue as a matter of urgency. Even Uncle Bob’s government never made such a monumental gaffe,” said a Masvingo based bar attendant.
“We are selling a bottle of Super Chibuku is being sold at $ 2- which is very disappointing.
The government has to resolve the condition before it is too late,” said another bar attendant.
Angry revellers have indicated there will be a popular uprising if the problems is not solved.
Arts Sports and Recreation Minister Kazembe Kazembe
By Staff Reporter| Zanu Pf stalwarts in Mazowe West constituency reportedly boycotted the party’s primary elections re-run for the women’s quota in protest that their complains against election irregularities which saw Kazembe Kazembe romp to victory had not been addressed.
Zanu PF ordered for a re-run of its primaries in 15 constituencies countrywide after an outcry of massive rigging and voting irregularities which saw President Emmerson Mnangagwa describe the primary elections as “shambolic”.
Similar and serious such irregularities were reported in Mazowe West where the siting Member of Parliament, Kazembe Kazembe was accused of perpetrating violence against his strongest contender, Tafadzwa Musarara’s supporters.
Party supporters from Mazowe West constituency who spoke on condition of anonymity said they were surprised to hear the party announcing an election re-run in the women’s quota which “had not” raised any complaints.
In protest, Zanu Pf supporters boycotted the rerun with only a handful of people casting their ballots (Monday).
“There is nothing to vote for because our grievances were on the MP’s because that is where there were gross irregularities and we thought that the party was going to conduct a re-run for the legislator,” said one man at Ceaser mine where only 62 people voted.
“We are going to play the “bhora musango” if they do not reverse this decision .Why can’t they give us the chance to elect the candidates we want?” said another Zanu PF supporter at Concession who confirmed boycotting the election rerun.
The supporters said they wanted to meet the President and raise their grievances.
“We are want to see the President and tell him that we are going to spoil the ballot come national election day because of this kind of dictatorship which we thought had died when Robert Mugabe was kicked out,” added Sheila Dube.
Contacted for comment, Zanu PF political commissar Engelbert Rugeje said he was going to call for a press conference later today (Tuesday) to announce the results of all the 15 constituencies where re-runs were conducted.
Zanu Pf supporters from Mazowe West last week thronged their party headquarters and demanded to see President Mnangagwa over what they said were violations of the electoral processes within their constituency by Kazembe, who is the chairperson for Mashonaland Central.
Reports said Mnangagwa pleaded with the protesters promising them that they were going to be afforded another chance to vote.
The supporters alleged that hundreds of them did not vote because Kazembe had pulled their names out of the voters’ roll, an allegation which Kazembe dismissed.
“I do not have time for that. Those allegations are not true,” he said.
President Mutharika inspects the toilet equipment By Paul Nyathi|Regional and International Media has been awash with news mocking Malawi leader Peter Mutharika for “officially opening a toilet”.
Mutharika on Saturday opened Namilonga Community Technical Colleges and during the event he was shown various products students at the institution make including special type toilet equipment.
The President was incidentally captured in one picture from the event shows Mutharika inspecting a toilet equipped with material made by the college students.
The picture has been shared widely on media and it has become a source of mockery for the president.
A Zambian Facebook page posted the image on Monday and claimed that Mutharika was officially opening a toilet.
Many people commenting on the post believed Mutharika was indeed launching a toilet and mocked the Malawi leader saying he was doing the work of a councillor.
“African heads of states. You can’t even delegate over a toilet sure,” said one commenter.
“That’s what I like about Africa. Even a toilet head of state should come and officially open, ahhhh Africa,” chipped another.
While one commenter said: “When its campaign time, you opt to officiate anything. Now toilet. Lol”
Several commenters however condemned the page for posting inaccurate information and clarified that Mutharika was actually opening a community college.
Disgruntled elements in the country’ s main opposition party MDC, have accused National Youth Assembly leader, Happymore Chidziva, popularly known as Bvondo of imposing unpopular candidates- subverting the will of the people in the process.
There was chaos here yesterday as party members chanted slogans- denouncing Chidziva for allegedly working with the party’ s provincial leadership to impose their preferred candidates against the will of the people.
“Unfortunately our esteemed youth leader, Bvondo has stooped so low to get involved in electoral processes at ward level.
Yesterday there was commotion here as angry party members lambasted Chidziva for meddling in low level political activities.
He imposed a candidate of his choice in ward 7, against the will of the people” said a senior party official.
Chidziva was not immediately available for a comment on the matter.

MDC National Chairperson Morgen Komichi has sternly warned aspiring candidates to desist from using party leader Nelson Chamisa’s name to solicit votes.
Below is a statement that has been released by Komichi:
I would like to warn all aspiring Candidates who abuse their proximity to the offices of the President and National Chairperson claiming that they have been approved by us as individual offices.
I want to categorically distance the president and myself from such undemocratic practices.
Candidates are chosen by the people. I want to appeal to all MDCT members to chose their favourite candidates democratically.
NO IMPOSITION of candidates please. I would like to thank all those who went through the Consensus Building process peacefully.
We will soon announce dates for primaries. Get ready. I love you all.
A Zanu PF MP has sensationally accused the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) of unfairly victimising female politicians.
Referring to the wrangle between Harare West MP Jessie Majome and the MDC leadership, Zanu PF legislator (propotional representation- Gutu), Yeukai Simbanegavi yesterday claimed the leaders of the main opposition party were chauvinists.
“Eeeish These MDC leaders really hate women.
They chase away
women and they are determined to suppress female politicians, it is really
sad,” Simbanegavi wrote on Facebook yesterday.
The British Embassy in Harare has responded in full to attacks by Nelson Chamisa supporters who allege that it had a hand in their leader’s humiliation during the recent BBC Hardtalk interview. Below is the full text:
In the last few days, we’ve seen a fair amount of confusion regarding opposition leader Nelson Chamisa’s appearance on BBC HardTalk. In particular, Zimbabweans have been upset by a suggestion from the presenter that ballot papers for the forthcoming polls have already been printed.
Some have even suggested the UK govt may have inspired some of the journalist’s questions. We’ve made it clear on Twitter that the UK govt has absolutely no say in how BBC journalists conduct this sort of interview. We can’t dictate journalists’ questions.
Or their interviewing style. Sometimes journalists deliberately seek to be provocative in their questioning in order to put their interviewees under pressure. People who have seen Hard Talk will know that their style is particularly robust WHOEVER is being interviewed.
The clue is in the title of the show! Journalists on programmes like this frame their questions based on their own, and their team’s, research. That’s how it should be. But sometimes that research is not accurate.
As far as the UK embassy in Harare is aware, the ballot papers have not yet been printed. We aren’t privy to any information to the contrary. We’ve made it very clear that the UK does not support any particular faction, party or individual in the forthcoming Zimbabwe elections.
Our only interest is in seeing that these elections are free and fair.
We’ve put our money where our mouth is: between 2014 and 2019 the UK will have spent approximately £24 million on strengthening civil society’s support for transparency, accountability, human rights & citizen engagement around the polls.
Our ambassador and senior members of the embassy team engage as often as is possible with officials from all main political parties in Zimbabwe. Our priority is to promote human rights and democratic gains for the Zimbabwean people.
We believe that respectful, frank engagement with both the ruling party and the opposition is far more likely to succeed than public grandstanding or engaging with only one side. That’s what we’re doing.
We’re certainly not blind to Zimbabwe’s difficult past – or to many of the governance challenges that continue to be present today. It’s totally up to Zimbabweans to decide who they want to govern them.
We and our partners want to see that happen through a free and fair election so that Zimbabwe can get back on the path to having its relations with the international community normalised. That surely is the bright future that Zimbabweans fully deserve.

Teachers representatives in discussions with government representatives
By Paul Nyathi|The much awaited 14th May deliberations between government and teachers that set aside the teachers mass industrial action of last week have failed to yield anything.
The talks held between leaders of teachers representatives and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education collapsed as the teachers still could not agree on the renewed offer by government.
In a statement issued by the Secretary General of the Zimbabwe Teachers Association, ZIMTA, Tapson Nganunu Sibanda on Tuesday, the teachers declared that a deadlock with their employer is now unavoidable.
The government is reported to have upped its previous salary increase by 5% to 15% across the board. The government also offered to increase the rural allowance to 5%.
The teachers rejected the salary increase offer demanding that government should increase salaries to match the current poverty datum line.
According to Zimstat’s latest release of the Poverty Analysis in Zimbabwe, the poverty datum line stands at $574 for an average household of 5 and $114 for a self-sustaining individual, depending on location (provincial stats).
A poverty datum line (PDL) represents the cost of a given standard of living that must be attained if a person is deemed not to be poor. Teachers are currently earning less than $400 per month.
In its proposals government also undertook to pay the 38 000 overdue pay in lieu of leave, which it had suspended, by the 1st of July this year.
The teachers demanded a commitment with modalities and timeframes how the money will be paid before government asked for a deferment of the meeting to the 16th of May, 2018.
“The Wednesday 16 May 2018 National Joint Negotiating Committee will be third and final before we can declare a deadlock, members will be consulted on the way forward,” said the ZIMTA statement.
By Paul Nyathi|Prominent Bulawayo arts director and producer Cont Mhlanga says that exiled Ndebele contemporary music singer Lovemore Majaivana can not hope to get the same resounding reception as did Thomas Mapfumo when he returned home from exile recently.
In a revelation made to weekend newspapers, Mhlanga said that if Majaivana would return to the country in tha same style as did Mapfumo after two decades in exile, the Ndebele people would shun his return.
Mhlanga said this in response to widespread calls by people from Matabeleland calling on Majaivana to return to the country and perform one show at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo.
Mapfumo returned to Zimbabwe and staged a huge sold out gig at the spacious Glamis Arena last month.
However, if Mhlanga was to have it his way, Bulawayo music lovers will have to feast their eyes and ears on grainy YouTube videos and old recordings to satisfy their Majaivana cravings.
“Majaivana shouldn’t come back. Why did people wait for Mapfumo to come to Zimbabwe before suggesting that Majaivana also comes and perform? If they really wanted him to perform here they should have simply got him here before Mapfumo’s gig was even thought of.
“People forget that when Mapfumo left Zimbabwe he was getting great crowds and support at his gigs. Was Majaivana getting the same in Bulawayo when he left? When he was singing saying no matter how well he sings people don’t see him or write about him in newspapers, where was the support? Have you ever heard Mapfumo complaining of a lack of support?” Mhlanga said in an interview with Sunday News.
“If Majaivana came back and performed for free at McDonald Hall, he would struggle to fill it up. That’s how bad the problem is with the people of Bulawayo. They don’t support their own and they never have. Instead they claim you then criticise you.
“If I was Majaivana and I was sitting at home there in the United States I would be asking myself why I would return to Bulawayo when Jeys Marabini and Sandra Ndebele can’t get a decent crowd at the City Hall?” said Mhlanga.
Majaivana has through the years resisted a number of invitations to come and perform in the country since he exiled himself two decades ago. The musician claims to have retired from music though he occasionally plays his guitar at his new United States home.
“I am not a musician anymore and so I would appreciate it if you would leave me alone. I now live a different life . . . thank you,” he told a publication some years back when attempts were made to bring him back to the music scenes.

By Jabulani Charlie| We would like to unreservedly condemn the bloodbath in Palestine yesterday, 14 May, by Zionist Israeli Occupying Forces that killed 58 Palestinians and injured more than 2,700.
It is shocking that nearly 60 unarmed people were killed by the lethal force of the Israeli occupying forces while protesting the relocation of the American Embassy from Tel Aviv in Israeli teritory to Jerusalem, in what the US President Donald Trump calls the unified capital of Israel. The innocent Palestunian peoole were also commemorating the 70th anniversary of the Nakba.
The Nakba saw 750,000 Palestinians, under the watchful eye of British authority , expelled from their homeland by mid-May 1948. The British Army played an active role alongside the Zionist in mastermiding the tragedy that befell the Palestinians which Britain was the author, architect and butcher in Palestine 70 years ago.
Today, another butcher – Donald Trump – joins the murderous Netanyahau in their quest to annihilate the people of Palestine. The murderous Zionist Israeli government celebrates the opening of the US embassy in Jerusalem, whilst Palestinians are being murdered in Gaza. Peacefully protesting for their right to live as human beings. How much more suffering are Palestinians going to endure before the world wakes up with a solution?
The Zimbabwe Palestine Solidarity and Friends of Palestine Solidarity Movement join the United Nations Human Rights Commission, Amnesty International, other global civic society groups for human rights, progressive countries of the world and the peace loving peoples of Zimbabwe in condemning these latest murders by the Israeli apartheid regime. There is no justification for the killing of unarmed protestors resisting armed occupation empty handedly.
In the past six weeks, the Zionists Israelis have killed over 90 Palestinians. These included 3 members of the press. More than 11 000 people have been injured and many have been left with life altering disabilities. Since the beginning of April, Palestinians have been non-violently protesting in what has been termed the #GreatReturnMarch along the fence that separates the Gaza Strip ghetto from Israel.
We also applaud the move by South Africa and Turkey to withdraw their Ambassadors from Israel in protest. The international community must take decisive steps to bring the perpetrators of this crime to justice.
By Talent Gondo| The MDC T has dismissed allegations that the party’s candidate selection process is shambolic and marred by violence saying it’s candidate selection process is going on well.
Presidential Spokesperson, Luke Tamborinyoka said the party had not yet started primary elections and members were currently holding peaceful consensus processes.
Below is the full statement by Tamborinyoka.
The MDC-T candidate selection process is proceeding well with no hiccups and no violence, contrary to press reports.
The party has not even begun its primary elections and is still holding peaceful consensus processes where candidates are agreeing with one another without coercion on who should stand.
For the record, the MDC-T has not even commenced its primary elections and is currently verifying its structures, auditing and validating the voters’ rolls that will be used in the primary elections.
No single violence case has been reported but where such rare cases in the party might take place, the party wants such cases reported to the police and the culprits apprehended.
The party will also take stern action against any such perpetrators of violence but as of now, no such case has been reported, contrary to false and malicious reports in the media.
The MDC-T notes with concern an attempt to equalize the party with the Zanu PF, which held chaotic and violent primary elections last week.
The MDC has a different culture and will hold clean and transparent primary elections that will breed a legitimate outcome and yield popular candidates.
We believe in transparency and our candidate selection process is grounded in the people where popular candidates in the constituencies will be allowed to represent the party at all levels.
By next week, the MDC-T will be done with its internal processes and will have a full and comprehensive panel of candidates at all levels.
By Paul Nyathi|MDC-T Acting National Chairman Morgan Komichi has told state run ZBC News that he has met with want out Harare West legislature Jessie Majome on her decision to contest national elections as an independent candidate and risk being dismissed from the party.
In an interview with the news broadcaster on Tuesday, Komichi said that he had engaged with Majome and is hopeful that their deliberations will yield positive results.
“I met with Honourable Majome and she narrated to me all her concerns which we noted and our discussions there after are promising a positive outcome,” said Komichi.
Komichi who is chairing the party candidates identification process said that the party will not go against the will of the people by importing candidates into their constituencies.
“We are a democratic party and we will not impose candidates into constituencies against the will of the people,” said Komichi.
“We have engaged with Majome and are very positive that her issue will be looked into and a positive result achieved,” he said.
Speaking to the same media in a different interview, Majome expressed ignorance on the talks which Komichi said will yield positive results.
“I met Senator Komichi very briefly on Monday to which he told me that he had not been aware of my withdrawal from taking part in the primary elections, claiming that he only saw it in the media,” said Majome.
“I told him that I had submitted my letter to the Secretary General three days prior after which I gave gave him a copy of the letter.
“We went through the contents of the letter together and he only said he was going to come back to me and I have not heard from him,” said Majome.
Komichi’s sentiments come in the background of reports that party members in Harare West are mobilising to march to the party headquarters to demonstrate against the treatment being directed to their parliamentarian by the party.
There are also reports that senior women party members have put pressure on Chamisa to negotiate with Majome.
By MacDonald Ncube| The below is an outline of how Jessie Majome was forced out of the race for parliament. This has been drawn from my findings with all stakeholders including the leadership here in Harare (including Chairman Morgan Komichi). – The MDC-T internal election policy was not clear at all (likely deliberately so) and in the process Jessie Majome saw her opponent gaining unjustly as the 24 year old Joanna Mamombe was allowed to do as she willed at a time when contests were not allowed as per party policy. This was all party policy and nothing of Majome’s making. The 24 year old Mamombe benefited from the chaos created by leaders, who include National Chairman Morgan Komichi, a situation that clearly amounted to a coup. Majome was pushed into a corner where she ended up complaining about the $1,000 she was forced to pay under the policy in which she and other MPs were ordered to pay up so that they retain their seats uncontested. She had not at all sought not to be contested, as this was all party policy. When she began complaining about the money she paid, she was labelled names, at a time when the UK returnee, Joana Mamombe was allowed to illegally campaign, performing an act which was against standing party policy. Even as early as last Friday, some MDC-T senior officials were claiming that Majome’s post is secured and that Mamombe was campaigning illegally, adding to more confusion because according to National Chairman, Morgan Komichi, Majome has to contest, contrary to the $1,000 policy. Below is the outline –
1. As someone said yesterday, there was the $1000 policy, which later was changed to:
2. The CV policy, and then came
3. The Consensus Policy.
In conclusion – Majome was part of the group of MPs that was early this year forced to pay $1,000 each and told their seats would not be contested. This was under the late leader Morgan Tsvangirai. The policy was later shifted from one to the other and the only clear policy was published by Morgan Komichi just a few days ago. Before this, it was chaotic and Mamombe benefited from the chaos as she freely campaigned against party policy.
A Harare businessman was shot dead in circumstances that have seen his own maids making a contrasting statement.
Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the man died after being shot in Avondale.
No robbers were seen and the maids at the house said they did not hear any gunshots.
A family member said, “I just heard that robbers stormed the house, shot the man and stole $12 000.” The source, quoted by Newsday continued saying, “members of the neighbourhood watch committee …quickly rushed to the house the moment they heard gunshots, positioned themselves and manned the house until the police came. Unfortunately, they did not see the robbers.
“The maids were also taken with the wife and they are saying they did not hear any gunshots because they had earphones plugged in their ears, but neighbours confirmed hearing the shots.”
By Talent Gondo| Activist Patson Dzamara has described MDC T Harare West aspiring candidate, 24 year old Joana Mamombe as a beautiful young lady who is “ripe” to lead.
Mamombe, who was set to battle it out with Jessie Majome in the party’s primary elections, is seeking the mandate to represent the MDC Alliance for the post of legislator in the forthcoming harmonised polls.
Dzamara detailed his first encounter with Mamombe saying the young lady should be given a chance to lead.
“I met Joana Ruvimbo Mamombe for the first time in 2014. I didn’t meet her in a restaurant or upmarket bar.
Believe it or not, beautiful as she is, I actually met her running along Jason Moyo street while protesting with my brother Itai Dzamara,” he said.
He said he failed to understand why a beautiful young woman like her would take part in a protest considering how risky it was during the reign of former president Robert Mugabe.
“I am not privy to all the details regarding what happened, is happening and will happen in Harare West where Tsano Jojo is seeking a mandate to represent that constituency under the banner of the MDC Alliance,” said Dzamara.
“What I know is what I will say. I have absolutely no ounce of reservation as far as her efficacy is concerned.”
He said Joana is ready for the challenge ahead and she should be given the chance to lead.
“She is ripe and ready for this challenge and I wish her all the best.
She is not too young to lead and yes she certainly deserves a chance,” he said.
Celebrations as Porusingazi wins rerun by election
By Paul Nyathi|ZANU PF primary election rerun results have begun trickling in with reported chaos and violence in some areas.
Confirmed results as of Tuesday morning are that Oscar Gore has convincingly won in the Shamva constituency re-run after polling 6 903 votes, while in the Mazowe West Women’s quota Tsitsi Gezi won with 524 votes.
In Chipinge South say Enock Porusingazi has won the ticket to represent the party in the forthcoming harmonised elections.
By Talent Gondo| A visually impaired man has taken the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) to the High Court seeking an order to compel the elections body to print and avail ballot papers in Braille or the template ballot as a way of ensuring that visually impaired enjoy their right to a secret vote.
Abraham Mateta, who is visually impared and is a registered voter wants ZEC to put in place administrative measures to enable people in his condition to vote by secret ballot in the coming 2018 harmonised election.
Mateta also proposed that ZEC must provide tactile voting devices to all the visually impaired people who want to vote secretly arguing that those who wish to be assisted in voting, should select their own assistants and cast the vote without the involvement of a presiding officer or any other third party.
Harare lawyer Dr Innocent Maja of Maja & Associates filed the urgent chamber application on behalf of Mateta.
In the application, ZEC, Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Ziyambi Ziyambi and the Attorney-General of Zimbabwe Advocate Prince Machaya were listed as respondents.
In his founding affidavit, Mateta alleged that his voting rights were likely to be violated if the administrative measures were not put in place.
“The minister and the AG should amend the electoral law to give effect to the right of the visually impaired to vote in secret,” said Mateta.
He proposed that the legislative amendments, must be effected by December 31 2018 so that the visually impaired are not discriminated against during elections.
“I am advised that the above provisions require ZEC and the other respondents to this application to ensure that I have equal opportunities to exercise my right to vote in secret, regardless of my disabilities or other factors.
“My disability does not mean inability to vote by secret ballot,” he said.
Mateta said the matter should be treated with urgency.
“This country is just about to hold its next general elections and yet first, second and third respondents have not put in place legislative and administrative measures to allow and enable me to vote in secret.
“There is, therefore, imminent violation to one of my basic constitutional rights,
“Where my rights are in danger from an imminent violation especially due to State inaction, it is only fair and just that this court urgently intervenes to protect me and those who are similarly disadvantaged,” he said.
The matter is yet to be set down for hearing at the High Court.
By Paul Nyathi|Heal Zimbabwe Trust, a Non Governmental Organisation that has through the years been sympathetic to the MDC-T has come hard on the party condemning it on the violence and intolerance seen at the party consensus meetings held over the weekend.
The Trust issued a statement on its website on Monday condemning the violence. The statement reads in full as follows:
Heal Zimbabwe is appalled by violent episodes of intra-party violence that rocked MDC-T consensus meetings in several districts across the country over the weekend.
In Budiriro, Harare, MDC-T supporters clashed during a consensus meeting at Budiriro 2 Training centre after disagreements over the selection of Parliamentary and Council candidates. Budiriro Legislator, Costa Machingauta had to flee the venue of the meeting as party youths charged against him. In Glen View North, party supporters turned violent and accused sitting Legislator Fani Munengami of maliciously removing names of those contesting him in the party’s primary elections.
Similar incidences of violence were also recorded in Glen View South where Vimbai Tsvangirai Java an aspiring Legislator had to be escorted out of the venue after party supporters turned violent and accused her of imposing herself in the constituency. Several incidences of violence and intimidation were also recorded in Glen Norah, Zengeza, Kambuzuma and Gokwe.
HZT is dismayed by the continued disregard of political tolerance among political parties as the nation braces for the much awaited 2018 elections. Hardly a week ago, violence and intimidation rocked ZANU PF primary elections as party supporters clashed over reports of vote rigging and manipulation of voter registers. Heal Zimbabwe views the lack of political tolerance as a recipe for political violence.
It is also Heal Zimbabwe’s view that tolerance, pluralism are principles central to the attainment of peace and also form core pillars of democracy.
In light of this, Heal Zimbabwe implores MDC-T and other political parties to abide by the Electoral Code of Conduct for Political Parties and Candidates which stipulates that NO political party or any of its members or supporters, and NO candidate or any of his or her supporters, may:
(a) Use violence, or threaten violence or incite or encourage the use of violence, against anyone on account of his or her political opinions or membership or support of a political party or participation in the election;
(b) Intimidate, or incite or encourage the intimidation, of anyone on account of his or her political opinions or membership or support of a political party; act in a way that may provoke violence or intimidation;
(c) Use violence or threats or illegal pressure to force voter to refrain from voting or to vote for a candidate or political party against his or her will;
(d) Force a voter to reveal the identity of the candidate voted for or take reprisals against a person because of the way in which he or she has voted or is believed to have voted.
Heal Zimbabwe implores Independent Commissions that support democracy such as the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC), National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC) and Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC) to work hand in glove with other key stakeholders to set up early warning and early response mechanism to detect and respond to cases of political violence.
Added to this, the police must also effectively maintain order without fear and bias as enshrined in Section 219 of the constitution. Political parties must also come up with stiffer penalties for supporters who perpetrate violence.
By Talent Gondo| MDC T National Chairperson, Morgen Komichi has warned aspiring candidates spreading lies that their candidature had been endorsed by individual MDC T leaders saying the party does not endorse undemocratic conduct neither does it tolerate the abuse of the offices of the President and National Chairperson to push personal agendas.
In communication issued this morning (Tuesday), Komichi urged party cadres to maintain democratic conduct within the party and follow due process in seeking political office in the forthcoming primary elections.
“I would like to warn all aspiring candidates who abuse their proximity to the offices of the President and National Chairperson claiming that they been approved by us as individual offices.
I want to categorically distance ourselves from such undemocratic practice,” he said.
Komichi said candidates are chosen by the people and not by the party leadership as being purported by certain members of the MDC T.
“I want to appeal to all MDCT members to chose your favorite candidates democratically. NO IMPOSITION of candidates please,” he said.
Komichi revealed that the party would in the coming days announce dates for the primary elections.
“I would like to thank all those who went through the Consensus Building process peacefully.
We will soon be announcing dates for Primaries. Get ready. I love you all,” said the MDC T National Chairperson.
Komichi’s statement come in the wake of recent developments within the MDC T where there are aspiring candidates for the forthcoming harmonised polls who are already circulating especially on social media campaign posters advertsing their candidature to the electorate.
Harare West sitting legislator, Jessie Majome yesterday pulled out of the party and revealed that she will be standing as an independent candidate in the forthcoming polls.
Majome cited an uneven playing field accusing her party of violating party guidelines and principles to accommodate and ensure that her contender, 24 year old Joana Mamombe wins the forthcoming primary elections.
By Paul Nyathi|MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa is reportedly being pressured by party members to make efforts to rescue prolific Harare West parliamentarian Jessie Majome from disregarding the party and contesting reelection in the constituency as an independent candidate.
Highly placed MDC-T sources who would not be named told ZimEye.com that the party leader has been put under pressure by some top female leaders of the party to engage Majome and persuade her to reverse her decision to contest as an independent candidate.
According to the sources, the female top party leaders have summoned Chamisa to ask Majome’s challenger to the Harare West constituency young Joanna Mamombe to withdraw her challenge and instead be seconded into the party women’s quota proportional representation list for Harare province.
“There is correspondence to the President from senior women leaders pressuring him to meet with both Majome and Mamombe for him to mediate between the two and strike a compromise,” said the source.
“The women are concerned that the party can not lose the experience and capabilities that Majome posses and so have asked Chamisa to intervene,” said the source.
Party Deputy Treasurer General Charlton Hwende however accused Majome of arrogance claiming that she is deliberately avoiding talking to the party leadership on the matter.
“Those worried by Jessie Fungayi Majome’s complaints about our candidate selection system, the National Chairman Morgan Khomichi who Chairs the Directorate yesterday tried to call her several times by the time I left Harvest House she had not returned his calls,” he said in a statement.
“The party is ready to discuss and solve all legitimate concerns by any candidate. Primary Elections are due this week so we still have time to find each other. What the party can not do is to avoid primaries ultimately the people must decide,” said Hwende.
ZimEye.com had at the time of writing not been able to get hold of the MDC-T National Chairman Senator Komichi who is in charge of the candidates selection process.
Speaking in a press conference on Monday, Majome ruled out any possibility of her reversing her decision.
By Talent Gondo| A Harare business who is in the transport industry died yesterday after being shot by unknown people at his home in Avondale.
The man, whose name has been withheld until his next of kin have been advised was allegedly shot by robbers who are said to have escaped with US $12 000.
The business man reportedly died on his way to the hospital after staff at Malbereign clinic refused to attend to him asking for a police report.
Police spokesperson, Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi confirmed the death and said investigations were ongoing.
“The ZRP would like to confirm the fatal shooting of a local bus operator in Avondale Monday morning,” he said.
“We are however still investigating the circumstances to the fatal killing and the wife of the deceased is assisting police with investigations.”
Accounting events on the fateful day, a relative of the deceased revealed that members of the neighbourhood committee who were on duty said they heard gunshots and they rushed to surround the house anticipating that the robbers would come out.
However, no one came out until police arrived at the scene.
“Maids who were also in the house at the time of the shooting alleged that they did not hear any gunshots since they had earphones plugged in their ears although the neighbours confirmed hearing the gunshots.
They were taken in by police together with the deceased’s wife for questioning,” said the source.
The controversial picture featuring Chamisa parading Gwesu.
By Paul Nyathi|MDC-T President Nelson Chamisa who is also the presidential candidate for the MDC Alliance coalition has been implicated in a social media nap showing him parading a handicapped known ZANU PF activist claiming he was maimed in the 2008 election violence by ZANU PF members.
The picture of Chamisa parading one Taurai Leonard Gwesu with an amputated right arm at an MDC Alliance rally over the weekend captioning that the man was a victim of ZANU PF brutality in 2008 made huge social media rounds after the rally only for information to emerge that the detail was incorrect.
National Patriotic Front Spokesperson Jealous Mawarire was the first to dispute the claims indicating that he personally knew Gwesu in the late nineties at the University of Zimbabwe already with the same disability and could not have been amputated in the 2008 election violence.
MDC-T supporters initiated the social media controversy on the picture showing Chamisa with the disabled man claiming that he had presented himself to the opposition party leader to exhibit the ruling party brutality.
“This young man lost his hand to the Junta PF 2008 political violence. The same people who are now leaders of the current government are promising you free and fair elections and you expect me to vote for them,” read the caption.
Mawarire responded to dispel the information indicating that Gwesu has always had the handicapp.
“While the Junta did some unpardonable stuff in 2008, the guy in the picture is Taurai Gwesu, former Student leader at UZ and Gwesu had the same disability in 1997 when he was studying BA at UZ,” said Mawarire.
However, party youth activist Makomborero Haruzivishe disputed claims that Chamisa paraded Gwesu as a victim of ZANU PF violence but that he introduced him as having defected from ZANU PF to join the MDC-T.
“President Chamisa introduced him at the rally as his former college cadre who later sold out and joined Border Gezi militia. He was presented at the rally as someone who had repented and rejoined the democratic forces. No mention of his disability was made,” he said in a Twitter response.
Efforts to get a comment from the information office in the MDC-T were not successful at the time of writing.
By Paul Nyathi|Leader of the People’s Democratic Party Tendai Biti has caused a major storm after he went on Twitter describing the people of diamonds rich Marange in Manicaland province as “feudal.”
Biti who is a principal in the MDC Alliance coalition made the remarks after visiting the area for an MDC Alliance rally over the weekend.
Biti, using his Twitter handle @BitiTendai said: “A big rare smile from Marange . . . Manicaland regrettably has the highest rate of polygamy in the country with 45% of ‘married’ persons in this community being in polygamous unions. Education & development will eliminate these throw-backs from our feudal past.”
Biti’s remarks attracted a huge furore from across the country with most demanding that he withdraws the statement and issue a public apology.
MDC-T secretary-general Mr Douglas Mwonzora who hails from the area was one of the prominent people to castigate Biti for the utterance.
Mwonzora responded on the tweet: “The people in Marange deserve respect. They are certainly not feudal.”
Zimbabweans across the country also joined in the thread castigating Biti for the statements.
By Paul Nyathi|The MDC-T candidates consensus talks held in Harare over the weekend were marred with confusion and even violence in some constituencies.
The party invited all its aspiring candidates to meet in their respective constituencies to discuss amongst themselves and agree on one candidate to represent the constituency but all the discussions collapsed.
In Mabvuku – Tafara the talks had to be moved to the party headquarters in Harare CBD as violence nearly erupted.
On Monday the party members staged a demonstration at the Morgan Tsvangirai House the party headquarters against the candidate selection and accusing some unnamed leaders of imposing candidates.
A number of aspiring candidates were reportedly shut out sparking an unrest within the party.
MDC-T’s national executive member Amos Chibaya had a tough time trying to control the crowd that was demanding audience with the opposition party’s president, Nelson Chamisa.
One of the demonstrators who spoke to journalists on the sidelines of the demonstrations blamed the party for trying to shift the process to favour certain candidates.
“A friend of mine submitted his curriculum vitae to represent MDC-T in Ward 2, Epworth, but a woman has since been imposed.
“Three other aspiring candidates can no longer contest in that ward. Under the circumstances, we cannot vote for someone who was imposed on us when the election time comes,” he said.
Violence also rocked the MDC-T consensus meeting in Glen View and Chitungwiza.
Some sitting and aspiring candidates had to flee for their lives as youths bayed for their blood in chaos riddled meetings. The party has directed party candidates to hold consensus meetings to avoid holding primary elections, a strategy that has been perceived by some as a ploy to impose preferred candidates.
In Glen View North, sitting Legislator Mr Fani Munengami fled the scene while Mrs Vimbai Tsvangirai Java had to be escorted as party supporters protested why she was coming to contest in Glen View South constituency.
In Zengeza West, a tension-filled consensus meeting was aborted after just 10 minutes after sitting MP Mr Simon Chidhakwa failed to agree with aspiring candidates Messrs Job Sikhala and Rangarirayi Mutingwende.
The party acting national chairperson Morgan Komichi admitted to state owned publications that the consensus meetings held at the weekend were rocked by violence.
“These consensus meetings are a process that does not even require violence or conflict as what has happened in some few areas. It is a voluntary process of consensus building and once that fails we subject people to primary elections,” said Mr Komichi.
“Violence is being caused by disqualified people who are buying beer for some misguided youths who are not even our party members. We sat as an Appeals Committee and resolved about 90 cases and our doors remain open.”
