Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa is in a few hours entering European airspace where he hopes to lure investors.
After a shoddy job with the Chinese where he embarrassed the nation obtaining not a single investor, Mnangagwa says he is this time making it.
He left Harare to Belarus with a large group of hangers on. The delegation left Harare this Friday afternoon and are to squander government allowances for a whole week.
The country is a former soviet nation that recently joined the European Union.
Harare and Minsk are set to strengthen economic and bilateral ties.
The two countries the State Media reported claiming “have sound economic and political relations following discussions in February to enhance cooperation, particularly in the agriculture, industrial, energy and education sectors.”
The large delegation comprises the Minister of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development Dr Joseph Made, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor Dr John Mangudya and senior government officials.
Macheso’s Tafadzwa Turns To Harare Prophet
Former wife to Alick Macheso, Fortunate Tafadzwa Mapako, has turned to an emerging Mbare prophet in a new life outside the fame brought by her brief marriage to the Sungura giant.
She has been shying away from the limelight ever since her public fallout with Macheso that resulted in a divorce last year.
However, Tafadzwa was on Sunday spotted at pastor Paul Sanyangore’s Victory World International Ministries service in Mbare.
Pastor Sanyangore called out the name Macheso and congregants turned heads hoping to see the musician but it turned out to be Tafadzwa, who went forward to meet the church leader.
However, they had their conversation off microphone and thus the rest of the congregants could not figure out what went on.
With only the pastor and close aides aware of Tafadzwa’s prayer request, there were all sorts of theories and top was that she was seeking a reunion with Macheso.
However, some were of the opinion that she was seeking deliverance to be able to manage her affairs better in her new life away from the popular musician. H Metro
Prof Simango’s Single Track-Mindedness is Winning Rat Race to the Bottom!
“…ARISE ZIMBABWE ARISE…” argues Professor Richard M Simango in an opinion column. “RISE ZIMBABWE RISE FOR A VICTORY. Let’s all united to fight for a free Democratic New Zimbabwe. Let’s stop to fight within ourselves but to divert all our anger and effort to Zanu-PF. United we stand. Divided we fall.”
The rhetoric is the easy bit the devil is in the detail. It is easy to say take the first step and move forward but unless we know where we are going we will just be running around like headless chicken.
“Take tangible or visible Action for the Dictator to feel our present,” advised our Professor Simango.
“MDC-T is the only Excellent Political Party that can bring Democracy in Zimbabwe which is denied by failing Zanu-Pf party. MDC-T is not the first opposition political party, but, is the first popular strong opposition party to disturb and gives Mugabe sleepless nights.”
Never mind the sleepless nights, it is the democratic change the nation is after. MDC had the golden opportunity to end the Zanu PF dictatorship and bring real and lasting democratic change in Zimbabwe during the GNU; all the party had to do was to implement the reforms. After five years MDC failed to get even one reform implemented. Not one!
Even if one accepts that Professor Simango as with many other Zimbabweans, was no paying attention during the GNU years and thus failed to notice that MDC leaders had sold-out – they accepted President Mugabe’s gravy train bribes in return for doing nothing regarding implementing the reforms – the Professor has had two years now to review what happened during the GNU. There is a mountain of irrefutable evidence that MDC leaders are corrupt, incompetent and sell-out.
So Professor Simango is disregarding (he did not deny it but just disregarded) the mountain of irrefutable evidence that MDC leaders are corrupt, incompetent and sell-out to stick to his long-held position drummed into his head by the likes of Nelson Chamisa that MDC is a party of “excellence”.
In his book Animal Farm, George Orwell encapsulated the immovable single-track mindedness of Professor Simango in his character Boxer, the stupid horse. Boxer took weeks to learn the first four letters of the alphabet when he finally moved on to the next four letters he promptly forgot the first four!
“Comrade Napoleon is always right!” was Boxer’s motto just as Professor Simango’s motto is “MDC is a party of excellence!”
After the failure by MDC to get even one reform implemented in five years of the GNU SADC Head of State, International Donors and anybody else with any brain finally gave up on MDC and accepted they will never accomplish anything of substance.
Since the July 2013 rigged elections, the EU has restarted its re-engagement overture with President Mugabe and Zanu PF in earnest not because the EU was not aware of the blatant vote rigging that took place. They were aware of it. They are going ahead with the re-engagement because they accept that opportunity to stop the vote rigging was lost and as long as MDC remains the only opposition, they will never force Zanu PF to implement any meaningful reforms. In short therefore, the EU is re-engaging with Zanu PF because the latter is the only game on the Zimbabwe political stage!
It took 20 years for many Zimbabweans to accept that President Mugabe was a corrupt and murderous tyrant. For the last 15 years the nation has been fighting to remove him from power but failed because those championing the democratic change, Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends, have proven to be corrupt and incompetent. Still the nation is stuck with MDC as the opposition because most people will not accept the reality that MDC is anything else other than “A party of excellence!”
According to a recent report Zimbabwe is now the second poorest nation on earth, second to the DRC. When the nation attained its independence 35 years ago it was considered a middle income nation on par with Bolivia; we have fallen a long way in 35 years for a nation that is not at war!
Our war is not a physical one but a mental one; we must have the highest percentage of the population of people with Boxer, the horse’s, immovable single-track mindedness. It is people like Professor Simango’s immovable Boxer mentality that is winning us the rat race to the bottom, the poorest nation on earth spot.
Mugabe Faces Arrest
President Robert Mugabe faces arrest as the Constitutional Court today sits to hear former Masvingo Provincial Affairs minister, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti’s case where he is suing Mugabe for contempt of court.
Unless the judges conduct themselves in fear of the President, Mugabe should be arrested anytime from today, a legal analyst said.
The ConCourt will furthermore hear an appeal by Bhasikiti against a High Court ruling dismissing a case where he challenged his dismissal from Zanu PF by Mugabe and his subsequent recall from Parliament.
The former Mwenezi East MP was dismissed from Zanu PF together with several party stalwarts in May over allegations of working with former Vice President Joice Mujuru in an alleged plot to oust Mugabe.
The boot was followed by his recall from the National Assembly by Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda.
But Bhasikiti dragged Mugabe to court challenging his ouster from the party and recall from Parliament.
The ConCourt ruled that Mugabe should not proclaim a date for by-elections in Mwenezi East Constituency before Bhasikiti’s matter was resolved by the court before July 30.
Despite the ruling, Mugabe on July 2 proclaimed that the nomination court would seat on July 20, forcing Bhasikiti to file an urgent chamber application on July 7 seeking to stop the sitting. He also pressed contempt charges against Mugabe.
The High Court threw out Bhasikiti’s case claiming that the former Zanu PF politburo member was supposed to exhaust internal remedies available in Zanu PF before approaching the court.
But Bhasikiti on July 10 filed another urgent chamber challenging Justice Bhunu’s entire ruling. Bhasikiti is represented by Tendai Biti in both cases.-SouthernEye/Additional reporting.
Magaya Fingered As Court Trial Hots Up
THE trial of Upenyu Mashangwa and three others before magistrate Noel Mupeiwa yesterday took a new twist when defence counsel Dumisani Mtombeni played an audio recording of a man purporting to instruct one of the accused to incriminate the accused in his police statement.
Mtombeni introduced the clip while cross-examining Admire Mango, the complainant in the case in which Mashangwa, Cosmas Mushaninga, Kudakwashe Larry Mapfumo and Clifford Tinashe Gonde allegedly defrauded Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries of $116 000 in a botched deal to import a Land Rover Discovery 4 from South Africa.
Mtombeni asked Mango if he could recognise PHD leader Walter Magaya’s voice if he was speaking in a different room without seeing him.
Mango responded he could.
Defence counsel then played an audio clip in which a man with a deep voice was heard saying: “You should change your statement and say the $80 000 that I gave Mashangwa was done by Admire Mango, do you hear that?”
In the recording, there was also a voice of a woman pleading that Mushaninga should not be arrested.
Mtombeni then asked Mango if he knew the voice.
“That is not the voice of Prophet Magaya,” Mango responded.
The defence lawyer then asked Mango if he could lie on behalf of Magaya if he was asked to.
“I don’t lie. I am a Christian and lying is not permitted,” Mango shot back.
The defence counsels, Mtombeni and Tafadzwa Hungwe, tried to convince Mango that he was asked to be the complainant on behalf of Magaya.
But Mango insisted that he was the complainant.
Mtombeni then indicated to the court that he would introduce four more other audio clips which would prove that Mango was not a reliable witness.
The trial is set to continue today with the second State witness Gilbert Mafusire taking to the stand.

ZRP Lady-Cop Bashes Brother’s Lover
A female police officer stationed at Harare Central allegedly assaulted her brother’s girlfriend (18) for eloping to her brother, forcing her to pack her bags and leave their house, the court heard.
Margret Gurumani (24) of Glen View 7, Harare, whose rank was not stated, allegedly received a call to the effect that Mitchell Masunda, of Manyame Park, Chitungwiza, had eloped to her brother.
The incident occurred on June 10 at around 8.30pm when Gurumani’s relatives gathered in protest over Masunda’s decision.
Appearing before Chitungwiza magistrate, Ms Jessy Kufa, Gurumani denied two charges of domestic violence and unreasonable disposal of property.
The court heard that Masunda was in a room with her boyfriend arguing over why she eloped.
Gurumani allegedly knocked on the door and Masunda opened unbeknown to her that her brother’s sister had come to chase her away.
Gurumani asked Masunda to pack her bags and leave since she was not supposed to stay with her brother. Masunda protested at the order. Gurumani allegedly took her service baton and hit Masunda on the hand before shoving her about.
Gurumani allegedly teamed up with her relatives to escort Masunda to her parents’ house where they dumped her.
During the scuffle, Masunda reportedly lost $20, a calculator, a skirt and a jersey.
The matter was reported to police leading to Gurumani’s arrest. In her defence, Gurumani denied ever assaulting her brother’s girl- friend.
She said she was called to her parents’ house after her father and Masunda had a misunderstanding.
“The complainant (Masunda) was staying with my aunt and on that day she had moved into my father’s bedroom. I was called by my father to talk to her since they were quarreling,” said Gurumani.
“I was also with my husband, brother and aunt when we tried to peacefully talk to her, but it did not go well,” she said.
Guramani told the court that this forced her brother to ask Masunda to pack her bags and go back to her parents’ house. Mr Innocent Tizirai prosecuted.
Refugee Fights Xenophobia With Music:VIDEO FEATURE
'Tresor and the Camp Musicians'.A hip hop artist exiled in a Malawian refugee camp fights against xenophobia with music. Soon on Witness.
Posted by Witness – Al Jazeera on Tuesday, 14 July 2015
Trésor and the Camp Musicians premieres on Al Jazeera English on Sunday, 19 July 2015 at 2330 CAT.
The documentary tells the inspiring story of TrésorNzengu Mpauni (aka Menes), who successfully crowd-funded a collaborative album between leading Malawian musicians and Congolese refugees – all from a refugee camp in Malawi where the 20 000 inhabitants aren’t legally allowed to work, or even to leave the camp without permission.
Trésorlives in Malawi’s Dzaleka Refugee Camp, which has grown from a collection of tents in 1994 into a big village, but still depends on monthly food deliveries from the World Food Programme to survive.
Like 500 000 other refugees around the world and most of the people at Dzaleka, Trésorfled the Democratic Republic of Congo.
As an up-and-coming musician and slam poet there, he became a victim of repeat attacks after performing a poem that spoke of the political situation in the country at that time, “of being dominated by war, by dictatorship.”
University-educated and relatively privileged for most of his life, Trésorinitially struggled to adapt to life in Dzaleka, until he discovered the camp was home to a wealth of musical talent, and even someone who made guitars.
Determined that the skills within Dzaleka should not be wasted, Trésorapproached Malawian artists, including hip hop star Third Eye, to collaborate on an album with the refugees, with the aim of fighting against xenophobia and challenging stereotypes through the music.
Directed by South African Neil Shaw, Trésor and the Camp Musicians is a remarkable testimony to the power of the internet to uplift communities, and of how global platforms like Indiegogo and iTunes are creating new opportunities for artists in Africa.
But it’s also a reminder of the power of music, to heal and to unite.
Kano, the refugee guitarist on the album, fled the DRC after his parents were killed.
As he says in the film. “When I sing, it helps me forget what happened in my country. This music gives me something beautiful, refreshes me, and makes me feel human.”
Tresor and the Camp Musicians premieres on Sunday, 19 July 2015 at 2330 CAT on Witness, Al Jazeera’s observational documentary strand, with additional screenings at the following times (all CAT): Monday 20 July at 1030; Tuesday 21 at 0430; Wednesday at 1730 and Thursday at 0630.
UK:Doctors Taking Vagina Pictures Of Women’ In Hospital
Some doctors in the UK have begun a trending behaviour of taking pictures of women’s nude pictures while they are giving birth.
The latest of these incidents have seen one doctor being attacked by the public on the photo-social website Instagram. The doctor, a student obstetrician, Daniel Sanchez, investigated by the UK Metro paper has come under fire for uploading one such selfie on his Instagram page.
Sanchez, a Venezuelan, posted an image of himself smirking as a woman, who is naked from the waist down, gives birth. A fellow doctor appears to have his hands still in or around her vagina as the baby crowns.
Sanchez, who has since set his Instagram page to private, tagged the image: ‘Lady I can deliver your baby but first let me take a selfie’.
He later added: ‘bring kids into the world and reconstruct pussies’ – boasting that his team give women vaginas that are ‘brand new, like a car with zero kilometres on the clock’.
This image is not the first either, with the hashtag #deliveryroom becoming increasingly popular on Instagram, the Metro reported.
A spokesperson for the GMC the practising medical doctors council for the UK said they were investigating the cases reported to date.
The UK is home to over half a million Zimbabweans who add to its 62 million strong population.
3 Insurance Companies Face Shut Down
Three short-term insurers have failed to meet the industry prescribed $1,5 million minimum capital requirement as gross premiums written (GPW) in the first quarter to March remained flat, mirroring the slowdown in economic growth, the regulator said on Thursday.
In 2013, the Insurance and Pension Commission (IPEC) doubled the minimum capital requirements for the sector, with short-term insurers required to achieve a minimum capital level of $1,5 million and life assurers having to put up $2 million by September last year.
IPEC commissioner Manette Mpofu declined to say which companies had failed to meet the capitalisation levels or the commission’s response to the failure. She, however, told The Source that GPW for the period under review declined to $70,9 million from $71,2 million in previous quarter, representing a 0,45 percent decrease.
She said during the period ending 31 March 2015, 1.38 percent of the assets were invested in prescribed assets.
Short-term insurance companies are required to reserve five percent of their funds for prescribed assets while life assurance companies and pension funds are required to put up 7.5 percent and 10 percent, respectively.
The regulator has, since dollarisation in 2009, deregistered several insurers which include Agricultural Insurance Company, Altfin, Jupiter Insurance Company, SFG Insurance Company and Suremed Health Insurance Company.
Ncube Weeklie:Are We Zimbabweans Really Educated?
THE PRESIDENT ON FRIDAY- WEEKLY COMMENTARY ON NATIONAL ISSUES
PROFESSOR WELSHMAN NCUBE, PRESIDENT, MDC
THIS FRIDAY, 17 JULY 2015
Are we Zimbabweans really educated?
If there is anything that avid ‘career’ critics of President Robert Mugabe want to avoid, it is showering him with accolades on how in the early years of his rule he injected critical traction in Zimbabwe’s education system by making it accessible to just about every child of school going age. Primary schools sprouted in virtually every ward of the country while secondary schools became available in fair numbers in all districts of the country. The ‘residual symptoms’ of his obsession with education are not only noticed around his own personal qualifications, but also that Zimbabwe still boasts one of the highest literacy rates in Africa. It is almost impossible to encounter a Zimbabwean who cannot read or write, even in the most backward rural outposts. Wherever one goes – day and night – you encounter a Zimbabwean carrying books or ‘going to school or college’. Most urban schools in the country practice ‘hot seating’ in order to cater for large numbers of students.
Three ironies on this. All tragic. Firstly, President Mugabe’s vociferous propaganda machinery trumpets this literacy success, but when it comes to elections; they claim ‘ownership’ over substantial ‘illiterate assisted voters’! Secondly, the 1980s education expansion has just about cancelled itself out due to two factors- one we have graduates, some with First class Masters degrees who have never held a job since graduating, some more than a decade ago, begging the question, of what value is education if it cannot secure a job and a livelihood- two, the education infrastructure and system so painstakingly expanded and built up in the 1980s has all but decayed and collapsed. It is in a sorry state today. Thirdly while parents do and sacrifice so much to get an education for their children we often get told in the political arena that education does not matter as we are foisted with clueless politicians seeking high office. It is then said what is the value of education when those who have destroyed this country have seven degrees and presided over the decay and rot of the country together with some of the most educated ministers in the world. Why not then try those with little education we are asked. This is Zimbabwe- the land of the incomprehensible!
Barring the current furore over Grade seven examination fees, for decades, primary school in Zimbabwe has been universal with public schools charging a pittance to attract as many underprivileged pupils as possible. Social academic Mary Ndlovu has researched extensively on Zimbabwe education. She noted that just before independence (for more reasons other than war), school enrollment was under a million. By the mid-1980s, it was a case of “total number of primary schools increasing from 2,400 in 1979 to 4,530 in 1990.” (Some government documents say the primary sector doubled in enrolments, from 1.219 million in 1980 to 2.2 million in 1989. The number of primary schools increased from 3161, in 1980, to 4779 in 2004.) This upward surge was proportionately reflected in teacher training and curriculum development, unfortunately, too academic. Mary Ndlovu’s problem with literacy figures was to what extent they took into account school dropouts, but that is the least of my worry for now.
This education ‘conveyor belt’ churned millions into secondary schools and thousands into colleges. Even today, Zimbabwe’s human capital is highly regarded in all corners of the world and like an international convertible currency, our citizens fit in any system. Compared to neighbours Mozambique, Botswana, Zambia and South Africa, Zimbabweans emerge from four years of education slightly ‘enlightened’ than their SADC compatriots. Had the 1999 Nziramasanga Commission findings been implemented, our country’s institutions would have by now been operating at Harvard, Oxford, UCT and MIT level. Between 1991 and 2001, percentage of education expenditure as a percentage of gross national product ranged between 4- 9%, this according to a paper entailed “Current performance of the education sector in Zimbabwe – key policy challenges facing the sector” by Louis Masuko, 2003. He also adds: “There has been an increase in university enrolments following the opening of new universities in Zimbabwe.” A document entiltled: “National action plan of Zimbabwe – education for all towards 2015” says that “Since independence, the education sector has received, on average, above 20% of the national budget in a bid to increase access and participation.”
Yet if one keeps tracking – or extrapolating – the Ndlovu research trajectory, one is confronted with ‘meteoric’ decline in quality post 2000. That is why she concludes: “However, we do ourselves and Zimbabwe no favour if we simply praise the expansion and make questionable claims for its great success, without examining the legacy of problems which it bequeathed to future generations. It is difficult to deny that the system served the few very well, while failing to provide an adequate preparation for life for the many… Politics trumped realism, leaving the legacy of failure which we must struggle today to overcome.”
This is my point. In his 35 years of rule, President Mugabe has always ‘stocked’ his cabinet with highly ‘educated’ ministers. Ironically, at a time when Zimbabwe (Rhodesia) had ‘uneducated; policy makers, the country’s industry was considered the second best in Africa. By 2000, each parastatal, government department, cabinet, politburo, embassy was staffed with highly educated citizens, yet the economy broke hyperinflation records. It is the same period that the country experienced the worst human rights violations, the worst food shortages, the highest unemployment and the worst electoral cheating. Do you wonder then why the cynics even as they go without food and failing to raise money for school fees for their children then tell us to elect as political leaders those that are like the Rhodesian political leadership.
Millions of registered voters have been trooping to polling stations since year 2000 and, while I am in no way insinuating that their voting for MDC would have reflected enlightenment, my point is that democracy and constitutionalism are a form of modern-day englightment. ‘Educated’ people must discern propaganda from reality; pragmatic from false promises. ‘Educated’ people are not bought with beer, packs of mealie meal and ‘free’ transport to political rallies. I do not think if we were ‘really’ educated, we would have allowed ZANU PF leaders to ‘give’ us noose like pieces of ‘land’ withdrawable at any time we fall out with them and flood us with presidential inputs just to make us vote for them. How is it that ‘educated’ Zimbabweans have watched with bemused envy as neighbours Mozambique, Malawi, Zambia, Botswana and South Africa change presidents ‘like shoes’ while we are stuck with one ‘strong man’ for thirty five years?
Almost three years after the New Constitution was promulgated, ‘educated’ Zimbabweans either know very little of its content or have no idea when laws will be aligned. Educated as we are, we are still compelled to attend ZANU PF rallies, allow ZBC to be (ab)used as State instead of Public broadcaster. We still stand powerless as ZANU PF (‘educated’) cronies obliterate the National Railways, ZESA, GMB, TelOne and other state-run entities.
If literacy rates are above 90%; and unemployment is above 90%, with millions in the country ‘surviving’ from the informal sector, it means Zimbabwe boasts an unenviable record of having the most educated poor people in the world. Education is an investment, but cannot automatically be equated to wealth. It is time we enjoyed the full benefits of ‘applied education’. An MDC government will ensure this happens by improving the learning environment of pupils and students and the conditions of teachers in schools and ensuring that all education institutions in the country design relevant education curricula and offer training programmes that are pertinent to industry and society and to the overall sustainable development of the Zimbabwean economy.
We will stimulate accelerated economic growth through widespread access to information with new information technologies so as to come up with practical solutions and identify opportunities. We will close the gap between theoretical and technical skills by expanding vocational and technical institutions so as to afford training opportunities to all Zimbabweans so that every single job in all industries is done by a competent professional and this will continue to improve literacy levels at the workplace and to increase productivity.
Obama Naked Strip in Kenya
Kenyans to walk nude to show Obama difference between man and woman
Staff Reporter-ZimEye
A Kenyan opposition political party has notified the Nairobi police force that its members will walk the streets of Nairobi naked in US President Barack Obama’s presence to show him the difference between a man and a woman in protest against the US’ approval of same sex marriage.
In a letter dated 13 July 2015, the Republic Liberty Party informs the police that an expected 5 000 men and women will walk the streets of Nairobi from the country’s popular Freedom corner in the centre of the capital completely naked in protest over Obama’s open and aggressive support for homosexuality. The nude march is expected to be carried out on the 22nd and 23rd of July as President Obama begins a two day state visit of Kenya.
The United States of America recently passed laws in all its states legalising the hotly disputed same sex marriages. African countries are particularly in the lead in resisting same sex marriages with Kenya being one of the most prolific. Obama is himself believed to be originally from Kenya where his father was born.
In recent weeks, scores of Kenyan women took to the streets naked protesting against what they called failures by Kenyan men to satisfy them in bed let alone make babies with them. The police in Nairobi could only watch as the women marched the streets naked.
The new constitution of the country gives citizens in Kenya to freely demonstrate in any way as long as the demonstration remains peaceful and not infringing on other people’s rights.
No official response has been made public from the Kenyan police but it is believed the police will not approve of the protest.

Kasukuwere Attacks Vendors
ZANU PF national commissar and Local Government minister Saviour Kasukuwere has hit back at vendors who have threatened to de-campaign the ruling party ahead of the 2018 elections.
He said his party did not thrive on chaos and would not be blackmailed or intimidated.
Kasukuwere said the Zanu PF government was doing all it could to ensure there was no chaos in Harare, vowing the ruling party would not accept “blackmail votes”.
“So you think our party wins because of chaos? We don’t thrive on chaos. We must not be blackmailed. You can’t allow someone to take fish from Mukuvisi [River] and start selling it to you or else they won’t vote. We don’t want that kind of blackmail,” Kasukuwere said responding to a question as to whether the party would lose sleep over the threats.
“We don’t thrive on disorder, never.”
Kasukuwere’s response came after vendors demonstrated last week threatening not to vote for Zanu PF in 2018, accusing the party of forcing them out of the central business district.
The placard-waving vendors said Zanu PF was insincere and fighting the same people who voted them into power in 2013.
They accused Zanu PF of failing to provide the 2,2 million jobs promised ahead of the 2013 elections which the party won resoundingly.
Observers were of the view that Kasukuwere’s task as both Zanu PF commissar and Local Government minister was to immediately decimate MDC-T strongholds in urban areas and ensure Zanu PF occupied the space.
Meanwhile, Kasukuwere said the informal sector was a form of empowerment.
“Let’s not undermine our people as they begin this unless you believe 40 000 Europeans will come to build our economy. It should be done in a correct way,” he said.
Asked whether he would be hard on MDC-T councillors, Kasukuwere curtly responded: “They should just work and deliver.”
Kasukuwere on Tuesday toured vending sites accompanied by deputy mayor Thomas Muzuva, chairperson of the Informal Sector Committee councillor Wilton Janjazi and several other councillors together with acting town clerk Josephine Ncube.
Municipal police have been on the warpath, allegedly beating up vendors refusing to move to designated sites.
More than 40 people have so far been arrested and charged with public violence. Some of them have been made to pay admission of guilty fines.-Newsday
Dzamara Coming Back: Mugabe Spokesman
President Mugabe’s spokesman George Charamba has attacked the media for reporting saying that ‘democracy icon’ Itai Dzamara who has been missing since the 9th of March 2015, was abducted.
Speaking for the first time this week, the spokesman slammed the media for what he said was a reporting of falsehoods as he suggested that the activist is returning to his family anytime soon.
Charamba branded the use of the word, abduction, as careless, insisting that this defeats the purpose of police investigations.
He said that Dzamara would “resurface as was the case in 2008 when many Zimbabweans fled to South Africa, only to reappear years later”.
He told the State Media that the government will not tolerate any political disturbances orchestrated by what he called failed political outfits using Dzamara, as part of their political football game which they think they can simulate a situation similar to Tunisia.
Charamba said police are investigating the issue and will reveal the outcome of their findings when investigations are complete. He said those who want the President to speak on the issue do not know how government operates as police are part of the executive which does the investigations.
Mugabe Dying Without A GrandChild
Dear Editor,
Statistics show that president Robert Mugabe is the only 91 year old man who has no grandchild and the only of descendants known to this day is a grandkid from his wife Grace’s secret love world.
On the day that he dies, Mugabe will have no grandchild at his bedside like every other granpa in the country has enjoyed has enjoyed for centuries running.
The reasons why the president is in this condition were revealed by a senior staff member at St Georges College who said that Mugabe is a too busy being absent father. The Headmaster who dealt with Mugabe face to face, revealed that while managing to subdue 15 million people, Mugabe has yet failed to do simple fathering for his own children. He said this as he expelled Chatunga from school.
” He is suffering from the effects of an absent father,” he said.
Indeed we have made history. We are the only country in the world with a 91 year old President and the only man in the world at that age who has no grandchild.
FACT:
If Mugabe had a child at 20, his child would be 71 years old.
If that child had a child at 20, Mugabe’s grandchild would be 51.
If his grandchild had a child at 20, the great grandchild would be 31.
If the great grandchild had a child at 20, the great great grandchild would be 11.
Time for action Mr Mugabe.
Satanism Hits Matebeleland North
15 Dads Caught Raping Own Daughters
One of Matabeleland’s traditional leaders, Chief Sikobokobo, Michael Nxumalo today revealed shocking news of cases involving fathers raping their daughters in his area of Nkayi as he said Satanism has hit the region.
The traditional leader, who was visibly unhappy, told ZimEye.com that he has been humiliated by the rape cases and also that he has presided over more than ten cases this month alone, and has since asked the police to be “serious”.
“I am a disappointed leader, because of the rate at which fathers rape their daughters in my jurisdiction. I am praying that our government can retain our powers, so that we can deal with rapists and offenders of our traditional values.
Satanism has also deeply entered our communities, because if a father believes that sleeping with his virgin daughter can cure his ailments and also get him riches, then something is wrong,” said Chief Sikobokobo.
He also blamed the government for not curbing corruption by introducing stiffer and deterring sentences to rapist parents.
“I am an old man who has been around for several decades, but has never seen anyone acquiring wealth through sleeping with their daughter. I think we need to revisit our culture and deal with these issues, as this has destroyed the bond between father and daughter in Nkayi,” he added.
His sentiments were echoed by those of his counterpart Chief Dakamela, who also blamed the behaviour of police when dealing with these sensitive cases.
“There are more than 15 cases of rape that were reported to the police, but the delay in apprehending the culprits and also the corrupt conduct of our security has let us down. More rapists have been fleeing to South Africa and Botswana, after having been corruptly released from police holding cells,” she said.
Chief Sikobokobo also added that last week he apprehended a rapist father and took him to the police, but was later shocked to hear that the rapist escaped and skipped the borders to neighbouring Botswana.
Asked to shed light on the alarming rate of rape cases, perpetrated by fathers to their own daughters, Nkayi Police could neither deny nor confirm, as they promised to give comments after completing some of their investigations, which was not done by the time of going to press.
BREAKING NEWS: Mystery Accident In Mphoko’s Road, Businessman Left For Dead
Bulawayo’s top businessman and former educationist, Clemence Kunzekweguta, was Thursday afternoon left for dead when his Isuzu twin cab was hit by a mysterious vehicle. The horror was such that the man’s car veered off the road and rolled on its own body three times before landing on its roof along Nkayi strip highway, the road that leads to Vice President Phelekezela’s Mphoko’s home.
Kunzekweguta who was travelling with a business friend to officiate at the NAPH schools competitions, which were taking place at Nkayi high school, in Bubi district was taken to Nkayi General Hospital for treatment.
Kunze is a founder and Director of ZERO Supplies, which operates several Book shops in and around Bulawayo. When ZimEye.com visited the scene of the accident, which is about 18 kilometres from Nkayi business centre, Police were still attending to the vehicle which was ferrying stationery and food for the event.
In an interview with Police who were at the scene, the vehicle which caused the accident sped off and never stopped to assist the victims. They also told ZimEye.com that investigations to locate the vehicle are under way.
Speaking to ZimEye.com in his bandages, Kunzekweguta said that he was well, but shaken by the accident that nearly claimed his life.
“I am ok as you can see, but we nearly died, because we rolled three times before landing into these bushes, where the car is. The vehicle that instigated our near fatal accident did not stop, but sped off the scene,” said a visibly shaken Kunze.
Nkayi’s main highway has been a strip tarred road since the Rhodesian era, and has never been serviced to date. The road is also the only highway that leads to Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko’s rural home.

Council Land Sales Halted As Bigwigs Swamp In
THE proposed sell of properties owned by Harare City Council (HCC) to sitting tenants at discounted prices has been put on hold after city fathers sniffed a potentially scandalous deal in which a former senior council staffer became the first to offer to buy a house he occupied during his term of office.
Council has strongly objected to Dombo Chibanda’s bid to be the new owner of an up market property in the capital’s leafy suburb of Eastlea which he still uses despite having left its employ about a year ago.
Chibanda had worked as HCC’s director of waste management and social amenities.
Council sources said Chibanda, who had a turbulent exit at Town House, applied to buy the house immediately after he learnt that council had adopted a resolution to offer its properties to sitting tenants at hugely discounted prices of up to 50 percent of the market value, as it seeks to comply with a government directive.
This was after former local government, public works and national housing minister, Ignatius Chombo, instructed council to dispose of its houses to sitting tenants in the national interest in June.
City fathers smelt a rat at a recent full council meeting over the issue after two council committees rushed to approve the sale of number 4, Cumberland Street. The sale was, however, immediately overturned.
Documents in possession of the Financial Gazette indicate that the Education, Health, Housing and Community Services committee and the Finance and Development Committee met separately to consider the application and approved it.
It was acting Harare Town Clerk, Josephine Ncube, in her capacity as corporate services and housing director, who recommended the sale to the committees.
“The committee had before it a report (19th June 2015) by the corporate services and housing director (Ncube) seeking authority to sell the house to Dombo Chibanda, a former council employee who was a sitting tenant to the property in question,” partly read the uniform minutes of the two committee meetings.
The committees then shared notes and agreed to recommend council to adopt the resolution but the motion was dismissed and referred back to the committees for further consideration.
Harare deputy mayor, Thomas Muzuva, led the onslaught on the deal saying it must be fully investigated to allay any fears before council could deliberate on it.
This, he said, has the potential to open a can of worms given that many of the city’s senior employees use council properties and could sense an opportunity to grab cheap houses.
Council then ordered the housing and community services committee off the deal so that the finance committee could exclusively handle it.
Muzuva said as it stands, there were many grey areas that need to be attended to before any further action could be taken.
“This scheme is exclusively for those people without alternative accommodation who are really in need of the houses, so we need to find out if the former director doesn’t have another property which would disqualify him,” he said, adding:“We need to be very careful to avoid a situation whereby we set a precedence in which every senior employee who occupies a council property buys it for a song on retirement. What should not be forgotten is the fact that proceeds from these sales should be ring fenced to build a new social housing stock to assist those in need and we will not be doing justice to it if we sell to those who are already well up.”
Council also resolved that a proper valuation process be initiated in order to ensure that there are no losses incurred during disposal of the properties.
“For example, the committee report only talks about the valuation of the stand and we do not know whether we are selling a stand or a house. So we have requested that the whole matter be looked into before it is brought back to council for scrutiny. These issues demand us to be thorough,” said Muzuva.
Chibanda had a turbulent relationship with suspended Town Clerk, Tendai Mahachi who, in 2009, suspended him on allegations of faking operational licenses when he was deputy director for health services. Chibanda was also accused of refusing to close a restaurant whose conditions did not comply with the Public Health Act.
Last year, troubles mounted for Chibanda when Mahachi again suspended him for poor performance as director for waste management, in a bizarre development which saw Mahachi himself temporarily taking over the duties.
The former director was also fingered in the salary scandal in which city bosses allegedly gave themselves hefty perks at the expense of service delivery. His salary was reported in the press to be US$34 299 per month.
Chibanda was one of those who were sent on early retirement in June last year. financial gazette
Mutodi: Dzamara Enjoying Honeymoon In Botswana
By Energy Mutodi
Dear Fellow Zimbabweans
On Saturday March 14 2015, I published a story entitled, “ITAI DZAMARA HIDING IN BOTSWANA”. The story which was based on a pulse intelligence feedback carried details which linked Mr Dirk Frey, one Thamsang Manhlangu and Tabhita Khumalo among other individuals believed to be Mr Morgan Tsvangirai’s security aides as having a hand or something to do with the disappearance of Itai. I am sure some of them are part of a list of participants surrounding Dzamara’s disappearance that appear in today’s Herald front page story titled, “Full Dzamara probe details revealed”.
Our Oceanic Omnipresence Organization (OOO) analysis report on the disappearance of Mr Dzamara has concluded that the alleged abduction was stage managed and was aimed to be used to ignite civil unrests and eventually the overthrow of President Robert Mugabe’s ZANU PF government using the same styles as those of the Arab Spring that took place in Egypt and other countries. However, our quick response to the allegations of a state abduction on the journalist just 5 days after the event was reported took the opposition MDCT by surprise. They did not know that they were being noticed.
It is true Dzamara skipped the borders into BOTSWANA and he was helped by the MDCT legislator whose name we have provided to the police. Their difficulty now is how to bring him back. He is a political project and the MDCT is simply trying to make a fool out of the Zimbabwean population by holding some “BRING ITAI DZAMARA BACK” rallies when they know that they have set him up in that way so as to gain political relevance and also to try and cause civil unrests with the sympathy of some western governments, something which will not happen.
If you may ask, why has the MDCT not held rallies for the more than 5 children who have gone missing without trace in Bulawayo? What is their interest in Dzamara’s disappearance? We call upon the generality of Zimbabweans to pile pressure on Mr Morgan Tsvangirai to bring Itai back or else he must be arrested alongside all those people we have mentioned if they continue to put pressure on government to produce a person they rightfully know is in their own safe custody.
Unfortunately, due to the passage of time, we can ascertain that Dzamara is still hibernating in Botswana. He may have skipped into other countries unclandestinely. Again I wish to reiterate here that his disappearance can not continue to be blamed on the state for various reasons. Our learned Professor Moyo had since publicly said that our borders are porous and that should tell you that Itai may be enjoying his honey moon wherever he is and come out at his own time. That is his right. For the MDCT to try and use him as a political tool is not only insane but also ridiculous. If you can’t find answers yourself, who do you expect to have them. OOO reports are mathematically calculated and reconstructed using pulse signals. They constitute a modern radar-based technologies. Unfortunately their origin can not be questioned.
Zim Tobacco Sales Tumble Down 8.5%
– Zimbabwe’s tobacco sales have dropped 8.5% to 188.5 million kgs this year after drought in southern Africa affected production of the country’s top export earner, an official said on Thursday.
Andrew Matibiri, chief executive of the Tobacco Industry and Marketing Board, said farmers were paid $555 million for tobacco sold to auctions and private companies, down from $654 million in 2014. The Tobacco selling season ended on Wednesday.
Private companies and auctions buy the crop from farmers and process it before exporting. Zimbabwe exports 90% of its tobacco, mostly to China, Europe and South Africa.
Last year, exports totalled $842 million, the bulk going to China, according to central bank data, more than the southern African country earned from platinum, gold or diamonds.
Fifteen years after Zimbabwe’s agriculture sector collapsed in the face of President Robert Mugabe’s seizure of white-owned farms, the tobacco industry is again growing, and black farmers funded by private firms last year produced a near record crop.
Tobacco production plunged to an all time low of 48 million kgs in 2008 at the height of an economic crisis. – Reuters
Zim Economy Drops to 1%: World Bank
World Bank lowers Zim economic growth forecast to 1pct, sees recovery in 2017
The World Bank has lowered Zimbabwe’s economic growth forecast to a modest one percent this year from an initial projection of 3.2 percent, its worst performance in five years due to falling commodity prices, but is seen recovering in the next two years.
After recording double digit growth rates following the adoption of the multi-currency regime in 2009, Zimbabwe, like the rest of the commodity-driven sub-Saharan region, is now suffering due to an underperforming Chinese economy which has driven commodity prices down.
The World Bank projection remains the most optimistic after local investment and brokerage firm, Invictus in April forecast the GDP to decline by four percent, reflecting the poor commodity prices and lower than expected agricultural output.
Independent economist John Robertson has predicted a five percent decline, with manufacturing contracting further.
Zimbabwe is also suffering from lack of domestic liquidity which, combined with poor foreign direct inflows (FDI), will continue to have a negative impact on growth.
On Wednesday, inflation came in at -2,81 percent for June, and analysts say Zimbabwe’s economy risks being caught in the trap of deflation, with corporate earnings seen shrinking further unless the country restores investor confidence to attract investment.
According to the World Bank Global Prospects Report for June, growth in Sub-Saharan Africa is projected to slow to 4.2 percent on average in 2015 from 4.6 percent in 2014. The multilateral lender sees Zimbabwe’s economy growing by 2.5 percent and 3.5 percent in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
“Slower-than-expected growth in China would weigh on demand for the region’s commodities, driving prices down. A further decline in the already depressed price of metals would lead to a significant drop in export revenues in many countries,” reads the World Bank report.
“A scaling down of operations and new investments in these countries in response to the lower prices would reduce output in the short run, and slow growth momentum over an extended period of years.”
Queen Visits Zim Town
South Africa queen of gospel music Rebecca Malope is making her way to the forgotten Matabeleland South capital town of Gwanda at the end of August.
Known as the Queen of Gospel in the music sectors,Rebecca Malope undoubtedly the biggest name in contemporary gospel music on the continent posted on her Twitter account that she will be performing at Gwanda stadium on the 28th and 29th of August 2015. This will only be the third time that Malope will be performing in the country in her over 20 years in the music industry.
South African based sources close to the international star confirmed that the “queen of gospel” will indeed be performing at Gwanda Stadium at the end of August. The sources said that Malope will share the stage with four other award winning South African gospel outfits Lusanda Spiritual Group, Deborah Fraser, Hlengiwe Mhlaba and Sifiso Ncwane.
According to the sources the two nights concert is being organised to officially open a newly built Gwanda Brethren of Christ Church. The church which is arguably set to be the biggest single worship centre in Matabeleland South is said to have been built at a cost of about a million United States dollars.
The sources further revealed that the artists are already busy rehearsing for the tour of Gwanda from which live DVDs of the artists will be produced. The first contingent of technical staff have already visited the town to check on the logistics of what is bound to be the biggest event to hit the small town of Gwanda.
According to the sources who would not be mentioned at this stage, the artists have been fully paid for by the Zimbabwean church to the tune of over R5 million. The crew is expected to bring to the country the biggest musical equipment yet seen in the country with back up generators and lighting all imported from South Africa.
A contingent of about 150 crew and support staff will be accompanying the gospel artists. The crew are expected to arrive in the country two weeks before the dates of the concert.
Efforts to get comments from the local organisers of the show were fruitless as the pastor in charge of the Brethren Of Christ Church in Gwanda was said to be out of the country at the time of going to press. Information made available by sources at the church however confirmed that the artists will indeed be visiting the town for the official opening ceremony of the church. The sources claimed that there will be no charges to gain entry into the two night concerts as these will be part of the events to present the church to the people of Gwanda.
An official at the National Arts Council in Bulawayo confirmed to media that the mentioned artists have been cleared to perform in Gwanda at the end of August. The official would however not confirm if the artists will indeed be performing at no charge to the audience.
“I can’t confirm if the shows will indeed be free to members of the public or will be charged and if so at how much,” said the official. “If the shows will indeed be free then the organisers must make very stringent preparations for the huge crowd that is expected to attend an event of this magnitude,” he added.
The last crowd of the magnitude expected to be at the venue was the 40 000 people who attended President Robert Mugabe’s campaign rally in July 2013. Zimeye will continue to make follow ups to check on the town’s preparedness for the event of this magnitude which is expected to draw gospel music lovers from across the country.
BEAUTIFUL Lion ‘Murdered’ for Trophy
A beautiful beastly male lion has been found shot dead in a development that now endangers the rest of the lion family in the area.
Indications are that ‘Cecil’ as he was popularly called, and the only male lion, was killed by a hunting company just “for fun.”
The Matebeleland based Bushman Safaris Zimbabwe company has been named as the culprits behind the gruesome act. ” they are KILLING AFRICA’S LIONS & Wildlife for Profit & Fun,” a protest banner read of the firm which kills wildlife as a sport.
Cecil had a pride of 3 Lioness & 7 young Cubs all endangered of being killed now since his departure because female lions “practice infanticide and will kill unrelated cubs. The inevitable is unfortunate,” according to conservation experts.
As the nation loses more animals, elephants, buffaloes and hyenas to the company Zimbabweans have been asked to contact Bushman Safaris Zimbabwe to express their disgust at the act. MORE PICTURES:
Minister Grabs Telecel from Foreign Business
Zimbabwe’s Information and Communication Technologies minister Supa Mandiwanzira has been exposed for grabbing the Telecel company from a foreign investor. This came at a time when the (historically)destruction-bent government is on a begging bowl for much needed Foreign Direct Investment.
Telecel shareholders, Vimplecom and local consortium, Empowerment Corporation have offered to sell their shareholding in Telecel Zimbabwe to government after the state blocked the Dutch telecommunications giant from disposing of its stake to a foreign investor, a minister said on Wednesday.
Telecel is currently embroiled in a legal battle with government over the cancellation of its operating licence in April, with the state alleging that the company had failed to comply with local ownership regulations and to renew the licence.
The firm got a temporary reprieve to continue operating after the High Court suspended the cancellation pending finalisation of its legal fight with the government. Telecel went on to pay a $5 million installment in June as part of the $137,5 million for the licence.
Amsterdam headquartered VimpelCom, which owns 60 percent of Telecel — the country’s third largest mobile telecoms firm with over 2.4 million subscribers — last December put its stake in the mobile operator on the market and invited bids from interested investors.
Information and Communication Technologies minister Supa Mandiwanzira told Parliament that the decision to block the Telecel sale was made on the basis that government had not received any capital gains tax from previous transactions involving Telecel.
“Since last year, Vimplecom has been on the market selling its interests on the African continent, including Telecel Zimbabwe. The company had almost reached an agreement with a company outside Zimbabwe and government took a deliberate decision to stop this transaction,” said Mandiwanzira.
“We made a decision that Zimbabwean assets cannot be traded outside the country without the country benefiting from the issues of capital gains.”
Mandiwanzira said Vimplecom then “offered to the government of Zimbabwe their 60 percent” shareholding.
The local consortium, Empowerment Corporation (EC) which holds a 40 percent stake in Telecel also wrote to the government offering to sell its shareholding, he added.
Government is looking to buy the company through its wholly owned entity ZARnet, which was established in 1997 as a government Internet Service Provider (GISP).
The parastatal has no experience in telecommunications and lists on its website that it offers ICT solutions and e-learning platforms.
“As you may be aware government does not have enough resources to be financing that kind of transaction so it has given this interest to one of its wholly owned entities, ZARnet to pursue it in a commercial sense and it (ZARnet) is in the process of negotiating,” said Mandiwanzira.
Government already controls another mobile operator in NetOne, which has 3,3 million subscribers according to latest official data as well as fixed line telco, TelOne.
The Zimbabwean consortium is made up of warring groups that include affirmative action pressure groups, war veterans, a farmer union, a small-scale miners’ association and an investment vehicle owned by James Makamba, a former ZANU-PF politician who fell out with President Robert Mugabe’s ruling party years back.
Mugabe’s nephew, Patrick Zhuwao, is the managing director of the EC.
Zhuwao plunged the consortium into internecine warfare in January when he pushed for the sale of EC’s 40 percent stake to Brainworks Capital – an emerging force on Zimbabwe’s largely inactive corporate deal scene – for $20 million in a transaction that would have valued Telecel Zimbabwe at $50 million.
The transaction suffered a stillbirth after a raging dispute between EC shareholders.
Guzah Rips Mliswa Apart…Fires Back
“I Am Richer Than Temba”
Hurungwe West’s new MP Keith Guzah has fired back at his rival Tembla Mliswa who on Wednesday alleged that he funded Guzah to win against him.
At least five(5) of Mliswa’s supporters were said to have been hospitalised after being attacked by Guzah’s alleged agents. But at a time when Mliswa had opened several lawsuits, he alleges that he also simultaneously funded Guzah to crush him.
Responding in no uncertain terms, Guzah said Mliswa’s claims were laughable.
“What can I say but laugh on such ridiculous laughable claims. comments on cheap political statements coming from a confused political ‘has been’ who is looking for a political space to remain relevant?,” he told ZimEye.com in an interview Thursday morning.
He continued, “it’s laughable for one to make such funny statements and expect right thinking people to believe that he funded me and instructed Hurungwe west chairpersons to vote for me in the Zanu PF primaries …..
“but failed to instruct them to vote for him during the by election between him and me?
“I also wonder how one funds someone with more resources than you! What a joker! At least he keeps idle minds entertained.
“Look, I won’t spend time playing to the gallery. I have a constituency to attend to and bread and butter issues to deal with in parliament.”
Smelly Dead Dog Flung By Masimirembwa’s Nehanda-Housing Thugs
Kasukuwere Must Fix Mess at Nehanda Housing Cooperative
The expelled management of the ZANU PF-run Nehanda Housing Cooperative caused a scene on Monday when they sank low to disrupt a meeting venue using a smelly body of a dead dog there.
In a development that exposes the scheme of the cronies who have stolen millions of dollars, the Never Kowo shamed management killed a dog and left it to rot below the chairs of the place where Cooperative members were convening a meeting on Monday.
The recent developments also saw this year the ousted ZANU PF Harare Province Chair Goodwills Masimirembwa fight to protect this group who are headed by Kowo. Masimirembwa was axed shortly after this.
Members have since called for the assistance of Minister Kasukuwere who should expel the leadership if he at all cares about the plight of the people. This is vital because the Kowos were booted following a majority vote of no confidence on the 27th June.
300 Zim Girls Walk to School Without Underpants
More than 300 school going girls in Nkayi and Lupane districts of Matabeleland North are attending school lessons without any under wear, ZimEye.com has learnt.
In a shocking revelation during the Matabeleland North SNV partnered schools Carnival, the girls who range from 8 to 16 years have been attending school classes without panties, exposing them to infections and abuse.
In an interview with SNV’s spokesperson for the Carnival, who is also the Wash Advisor for the organisation Wamubhilani Nkala, the organisation has been working around the clock to assist the vulnerable girl children in the districts, with sanitary wear and panties.
“We have been working hard since 2013 in the most affected areas of the country, which is Matabeleland North. We discovered that more than 300 girls from Nkayi district have been dropping out of school due to menstrual difficulties. They have been going to school without panties, as they all could not afford to have them.
SNV and its European partner have since established a mothers group composed of women in the surrounding districts to manufacture under wear and ramps for the vulnerable girls.
One of the trained mothers from the Masenyane mothers Group of Lupane, Mrs Sandra Mpofu, told ZimEye.com that they have been busy with the venture since 2013, as the situation needs urgent attention.
“Our girls have been going through a traumatising experience, and most of them have been keeping the secret to themselves, as they fear humiliation.
Many girls would have been noticed after having spoiled their school uniforms, thereby leading to the intervention of female teachers,” she said.
According to SNV Official, Mrs Sphilisiwe Dube, more than 70 school teachers have since been trained to offer lectures on ramp making during their home economic classes, in an effort to cushion the vulnerable girls.
Bashed Mnangagwa Flies to Europe
Barely 24 hours after he caused an international embarrassment for the entire Zimbabwean nation, Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa is not giving up.
The VP has set his eyes on Europe to seek what he says are potential investors.
The move comes amid revelations that his trip to China brought no single additional investor to Zimbabwe after he also smashed into numerous publicity accidents.
He attempted to ward off the shame from his television stripper by saying this time he will speak with “more vigour”.
“I am also going to Europe on Friday to attract huge companies to come and invest…I will be able to speak with vigour (after touring the Sunway City Integrated Park) and clarity and attract major companies to come to Zimbabwe,” said Mnangagwa.
While his office communicated no further details, the State Media quoted him saying he is definitely headed for Europe.
Reports at the end of day Wednesday suggested the destination is likely Belgium where ZANU PF has been given sanctions concessions. Another source said he is likely to visit Europe’s engineering hub Germany as well.
The European Union’s sanctions on Robert Mugabe, Mnangagwa and others are still in place despite a few names being dropped and so for one to travel, a special waiver has to be obtained.
When Mnangagwa revealed this he was speaking soon after touring the Sunway City Integrated Park near Ruwa. He said his intended visit to Europe was part of government’s drive to attract investors into the country.
The VP added that he has agreed with Minister of Industry and Commerce Mike Bimha Bimha to hold an International Investment Conference in October where huge global companies are scheduled to attend and explore investment opportunities in the country.
Police Clash With Vendors Again

There were running battles in Mutare city today between the municipal police and Zimbabwe Republic Police as law enforcement agents clamped down on illegal vendors and tried to drive them to new vending sites allocated by the local authority.
Most of the vendors, who were being forced to leave illegal selling sites, camped at Old Chidzera Hall and vowed to stay put until council addresses all their grievances, including the provision of convenient vending stalls with toilets.
Some businesspeople in the eastern border town applauded the move taken by the police, saying they will now be able to sell their goods without interference from vendors.
One of the affected vendors, Tendai Gotora, said some of them were not allocated new stalls by the local authority.
His sentiments were echoed by several others who said they have been driven from customers in the city center.
The chairperson of the Mutare Informal Traders Union, Ivene Mbengo, said there is need for dialogue between the local authority, vendors and the police.
He urged his colleagues to avoid any conflicts with municipal police and other security agents.
Mbengo said the local authority should also seriously consider constructing permanent structures for vendors.
Mutare businessman, Assan Hussein, commended the move taken by the local authority saying that they were now going to operate their businesses without any hindrance.
Mutare mayor councilor, Tatenda Nhamarare, told Studio 7 the move today was in line with a government directive to remove the illegal vendors from undesignated selling sites.
The mayor said it is untrue that the new vending sites do not have toilets, adding that street traders should put their own shelters.
Councilor Nhamarare said the removal of vendors went well today despite protests from street traders.
The removal of illegal vendors started in Harare last week where at least 25 vendors have been arrested and are now facing charges of public violence. Millions of Zimbabweans have engaged in vending to make ends meet due to the current harsh economic situation in the country.-VOA
Dzamara Not Only One Abducted, Minister Says
Zimbabwean lawyer, Charles Kwaramba, representing disappeared Occupy Africa Unity Square leader, Itai Dzamara, has urged President Robert Mugabe to publicly talk about the abducted activist to give the case a high profile and urgency it deserves.
The remarks follow pronouncements by President Mugabe’s spokesman, George Charamba, that Mr. Mugabe will not be commenting on the matter.
Dzamara was abducted on March 9th this year by five unidentified armed men in Harare’s Glen View suburb as he was getting a haircut at a local barbershop.
The activist spearheaded the pro-democracy movement that demanded the resignation of Mr. Mugabe for allegedly failing to deliver.
But the investigations seem to have stalled with the head of the police’s law and order unit in the criminal investigations department, Crispen Makedenge, refusing to comment referring Studio 7 to the police general headqurters.
The story took yet another bizarre turn when deputy home affairs minister Ziyambi Ziyambi told Studio 7 today that Dzamara is not the only activist to have vanished, giving an example of veteran nationalist, Edison Sithole, who disappeared before independence in 1975 and was never found.-VOA

Mliswa: I Funded Keith Guzah To Destroy Me
Expelled Hurungwe West MP Temba Mliswa has lashed out at ZANU PF rumours that he received assistance from ousted Mash West Chair Ziyambi Ziyambi.
In a statement, Mliswa denied any involvement with Ziyambi.
He explained while shockingly revealing that he funded his own opponent Keith Guzah so that he could defeat him. “Keith Guzha’s win in the Primary Elections, I even went on to assist him financially when he failed to remunerate his polling agents in the just ended election. I made him politically and now he is vying for the Provincial post as Chairman,” Mliswa said as he pierced the ears of his supporters(with those words) many who were brutalised by Guzah’s agents in the just ended bi elections.
Below was his full statement:
“Nothing could be further from the truth and once again Mashonaland West cannot justify their own confused decision making without implementing me in the process. It is preposterous to fathom that the person who was instrumental in my ouster from the ZANU PF Provincial Chairmanship and then the ZANU PF Party itself is now the one disclosing election strategies to me.
“What strategies are there to be disclosed in the first place? The only strategies perennially deployed by the rogues of ZANU PF and that are common knowledge to all and sundry are those of violence, intimidation and the use of the State Security apparatus. Even if by some remote chance there may have been some new strategy or ‘secret’ how on earth could I have countered it having not had the chance to go on the ground and campaign?
“I have always been labelled as “Gamatox” and yet I am the one who appointed the entire Mashonaland West Provincial Executive, how were they then separated from my alliances? It is a fact that has always baffled me and example of how the term “Gamatox” was coined to purge the Party. It is no secret that I was the one who was key in Keith Guzha’s win in the Primary Elections, I even went on to assist him financially when he failed to remunerate his polling agents in the just ended election. I made him politically and now he is vying for the Provincial post as Chairman.
“I have alleged Ziyambi to have been in the forefront of the physical and brutal attacks in the just ended farce of a Hurungwe West by-election. I further singled out his perceived abuse of office as the reason why arrests were not being made in the Constituency and yet during the same time period we are purported to have been conspiring. It is unfortunate that this alleged sharing of information was not very effective or accurate as I would certainly have won in the election had that been the case.
“Relationships transcend beyond politics and I am human enough to be civil and polite when running into any person that I may not agree with politically. Surely that does not constitute as grounds for secret sharing? If that is the case then individuals such as Chiyangwa should be labelled ‘Gamatox’ as it was Cde. Mutasa who was instrumental in having him reinstated to the Party upon his dismissal.
“The truth of the matter is that my ouster was not effected in the best interests of the Province and as a result they will forever be haunted. I am probably the most effective Chairperson the Province has had the pleasure of being elected and the error of their judgement will rumble long and loudly in the annals of Mashonaland West’s history.”
NSSA Wants to Start A Bank
The National Social Security Authority (NSSA) is seeking a Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) approval to establish a bank.
The proposed NSSA building society is under spotlight as regulatory authorities are assessing its importance to the financial industry.
While a board of directors for the bank has been appointed, RBZ Governor, Dr John Mangudya said NSSA is still in the process of applying for permission to set up the building society.
The submission of a bankable plan by NSSA to the RBZ comes after monetary authorities tightened regulations for new entries into the financial sector to consolidate the prevailing stable conditions for banks.
Government as the key shareholder in NSSA has set aside US$50 million as seed capital for the building society.
NSSA has been accused of bad investments that have prejudiced pensioners millions of dollars.
The social security authority is now resorting to establishing its own bank to protect the interests of employee contributions.
‘Sexism’ as Last Woman on Death Row ‘Saved’
Zimbabwe no longer has female prisoners on death row in compliance with the new constitution.
The country’s sole female prisoner on death row has been removed after her sentence was commuted to life imprisonment.
Shylet Sibanda, the only female inmate who was on death row for the murder of Daniel Sithole committed together with the help of her husband Tongai Zireni Mutengerere and a family friend Darlington Nyaungwe, withdrew her concourt application seeking a review of her death sentence on Wednesday.
Sibanda, through Advocate Fadzi Mahere, withdrew her matter on the basis that her death sentence has since been commuted to life imprisonment.
Sibanda and her accomplices were all sentenced to death by hanging by Justice Felistus Chatukuta for murdering Sithole in 2010 and stealing the deceased’s vehicle.
The three committed the offence in 2010 and were sentenced to death by the High Court after Justice Chatukuta found no extenuating circumstances.
According to the State, Mutengerere is said to have used his wife to call Sithole pretending that she wanted to hire his truck to go and pick up a motor vehicle engine at Kamutanho Village in Zimunya, a few kilometers from Mutare.
The court heard that Sibanda fell for the trap, agreed to the contract and charged the woman 50 dollars for the job.
The late Sibanda picked up Mutengerere’s wife at green market in Mutare and proceeded to pick up Mutengerere and Nyaungwe at Sakubva bus terminus.
Mutengerere and Nyaungwe occupied the front seat, while Sibanda was at the back of the truck with her baby and they proceeded towards Zimunya.
As they arrived at Bazel Bridge road, Nyaungwe suddenly grabbed Sibanda by the throat, choking him.
Nyaungwe stabbed him twice in the stomach, his hands and legs were tied together and he was dragged into the bush where he later died.
President Hands Over Power:Tanzania
Tanzania’s ruling Chama Chamapinduzi party has anointed the country’s Minister of Works John Magufuli as its presidential candidate for polls slated for October 25 in a development expected to see him step into the shoes of the incumbent president Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete as leadership renewal takes root in former liberation movements in Southern Africa.
Kikwete steps down after his second and final term, a political episode which has been given prominence in Zimbabwe’s partisan state media, unwittingly exposing President Robert Mugabe’s octopus-grip on power in Zanu (PF) and as the oddball in Southern Africa Development Community (Sadc).
Mugabe (91) has been at the helm of Zanu (PF) since the 1970s during the liberation war and in power in Zimbabwe since independence from colonial Britain in 1980.
Critics say while Magufuli (55) prepares to take over power in Tanzania’s ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi, Mugabe, who is battling old age and failing health, has not shown any signs of slowing down or let along allow debate on his possible successor.
Discussing succession in Zanu PF is taboo, critics say, yet in CCM it was put to vote with Magufuli garnering 87% of the votes cast.
In Mugabe’s situation his former deputy Joice Mujuru was last December hounded out of Zanu PF and government for allegedly showing signs of ambition, rightly or wrongly, by virtue of being the second in command.
Nearly 140 other Zanu PF politicians suspected to be sympathetic to Mujuru were axed in a ruthless purge which has seen Mugabe’s wife, Grace, assuming political clout in the revolutionary party.
It is the bloodless leadership changes in CCM which again bring the spotlight to Mugabe’s long stay in power in both Zanu PF and government, a situation which has not be held by the Mugabe Chete syndrome among the party faithful.
“Zanu PF is unique in the fact it is the only one of the former liberation movements that has not changed its president of both the party and the government,” says political analyst and blogger, Takura Zhangazha.
“The main reason for that is its lack of internal democracy and debate and functioning in a manner that promotes personalities above values and principles.”
Five months ago former Mozambique president Amarndo Guebuza handed over power to new president Filipe Nyusi after serving for two terms from 2005 to 2015.
Namibian president Hifikepunye Pohamba also told fellow regional leaders at the Victoria Falls SADC in April it was his last summit, intimating he would not go past he two five years terms.
Trust Matsilele says leadership changes in the region shows others SADC countries are democracies while Zimbabwe is not.
He said some countries like Lesotho there are coups as citizens vehemently oppose leaders who cling to power despite being clueless in taking their nations forward.
“In Zimbabwe we have not had such experiences (but) Mugabe is obviously a problem and Zimbabweans too, especially those who burden him with responsibility to keep on leading,” said Matsilele.
Rashweat Mukundu, the chairperson of the Zimbabwe Democracy Institute, said while the rest of SADC is on the path to establish firm democracies buttressed by peaceful leadership change, Zimbabwe is indeed stuck with no prospect for an orderly leadership change.
“The problem is with President Mugabe who has assumptions that his leadership is all that is for Zimbabwe. He has created structures that make it impossible for anyone within or outside ZANU PF to take over and Zimbabwe is stuck with him till either he decides or nature decides.
“His stay in power seems endless and symbolized by failure on the economic front and widespread poverty and suffering. He appears desperate to leave a legacy of sorts, unfortunately he is sinking deeper into the mud and with him the rest of Zimbabwe’s citizens. The legacy of poverty and suffering seems to be all that he will ultimately leave Zimbabwe and only God knows when and how.”
Jacob Mafume, the spokesperson for MDC Renewal Team, charged that the country has been very unfortunate to have a selfish founding leader who has seen it fit to punish the Zimbabwean people with his permanent presence.
“We then have cowardly former comrades of his who would rather give the presidency to his wife than to any one of them. They pass through the years tounges tied unable to say anything or do anything unless it echoes the wishes of Robert Mugabe and or now his wife,” he said.
Mafume added that the people have tried at great cost to show that they do not like Mugabe anymore but have been let down by leaders both within and outside Zanu(PF). RadioVOP
G40: Grace To Replace Mnangagwa for Presidency – REPORT
Local Government Minister Savior Kasukuwere and a group of Young Turks called the G40 are plotting to have first lady Grace Mugabe dislodge vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa the below report says.
First Lady Grace Mugabe has apparently been given “a blank cheque” by Zanu PF’s ambitious young Turks, the Generation 40 (G40) group, who are now said to be actively lobbying her to succeed her ailing nonagenarian husband, President Robert Mugabe.
If this were to come to pass, it would effectively torpedo Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s chances of ever landing the top post, a move that many of the VP’s supporters are zealously working towards.
Well-placed Zanu PF sources told the Daily News yesterday that with a berth in the party’s all-powerful politburo, courtesy of her position as women’s league boss, as well as “her close proximity to the ultimate authority in Zanu PF and the government (Mugabe)”, it is no wonder that she is “increasingly enjoying as much bootlicking and sycophancy” as Mugabe — with G40 allegedly and expedient at the heart of all this.
One insider claimed that the G40 camp, which comprises relatively young ruling party politicians and some of Mugabe’s relatives, was “so anti-Mnangagwa” that they were now “furiously” pushing for Mugabe’s wife to be Zanu PF’s next leader.
“The young Turks don’t trust Mnangagwa and they feel that if he was ever to be the president their hopes of ever succeeding him will be blown away.
“They would rather have Grace with whom they can determine the future together than Mnangagwa who has already demonstrated that the Karangas will be in charge once he is in power. There are lots of tribal and regional dynamics at play,” the insider said.
And apparently seduced “by the promise and fruits of unfettered power”, Grace is warming to the idea and is thus allegedly turning on the Mnangagwa faction with whom she had had an alliance since last year when she fronted the political decapitation of former Vice President Joice Mujuru and her allies.
“Among many other reasons, including their over-weening ambition, the G40 also feels that Mnangagwa will be a hard sell to the electorate come 2018, for many reasons including allegations pertaining to his perceived ruthlessness and alleged role in the infamous Gukurahundi atrocities of the 1980s — hence their (G40) rallying behind Grace,” another source said.
Mugabe’s often loose-tongued nephew, Patrick Zhuwao — an alleged key G40 member — recently wrote that “it would be foolish” for the two VPs, Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko, not to listen to Grace’s advice, after stunning revelations by the controversial first lady last month that the two bigwigs regularly take instructions from her.
Another source intimately familiar with Zanu PF politics also said there was “a disturbing trend” as the party’s deadly factional and succession wars deepened, whereby “tribalism and regionalism are coming to the fore in a bad way”.
In this “madness”, Mnangagwa and his allies were now being accused of setting up structures that were sympathetic “to the Karanga dream of leading the country”.
Addressing party youths last month, Mugabe panned Zanu PF factionalism in remarks that many insiders said were allegedly directed at Mnangagwa, further warning party youths against coalescing around individuals.
“If you are choosing between my two vice-presidents, you are beginning your own Gamatox. They (the VPs) occupy equal sphere. If you say you want this one to succeed, you are already bringing division within the people and this so soon after our election.
“The people will choose when the time comes, and you will be part of that process, but don’t get divided by that question now,” Mugabe said in a rare admission that factionalism continues to be a big problem in his warring party.
Another source said Grace had played a key role in Mugabe’s latest Cabinet reshuffle, claiming further that the two VPs had only been “advised later”.
“That (new Cabinet appointees) is a line-up from Amai. Mnangagwa wanted his wife to be the Women’s Affairs minister but Amai chose her long-time friend Nyasha Chikwinya who was plucked from nowhere although she is connected to the Mujuru faction.
“Years back, she (Chikwinya) was also linked to a corruption scandal but because of her friendship with Amai she is back. And former Mashonaland East minister of State Biggie Matiza lost his post because he was a Mnangagwa ally in the province,” the source said.
Giving examples of how much the Mnangagwa faction was under the cosh, another senior party official told the Daily News on Monday that in the past fortnight alone, a number of alleged key allies of the VP had either been suspended from the smouldering ruling party ship or had been publicly humiliated, with Grace again said to be at the centre of all of this.
“It’s not a coincidence that (Zanu PF) Mashonaland West (province) kicked out interim chairman Ziyambi Ziyambi this week and replaced him with Keith Guzah. Ziyambi is in the VP’s faction and you will remember that Dr Amai dressed him down in public when she officiated at the ground-breaking ceremony of housing stands in Kadoma recently,” he added.
The Daily News also reported yesterday that the uneasy alliance of the past year between Grace and Mnangagwa was unravelling, as Mugabe’s increasingly influential wife was now said to be working again with the G40 camp.
Insiders told the daily that a number of developments over the past few weeks suggested that the pact between Grace and Mnangagwa, which had been witnessed when they worked together to annihilate Mujuru and her allies, “is now on shaky grounds”.
“I think you guys in the media are missing a trick here. It’s not the G40 that is reeling under pressure, no. It is the Mnangagwa camp that is taking a massive beating at the hands of people who are hobnobbing with Dr Amai as comrades and their factions fight to the bitter end to succeed President Mugabe,” one of the sources claimed.
Another well-placed source corroborated the claims that the G40 — which allegedly includes self-proclaimed “political thug” and Zanu PF’s national commissar and minister of Local Government, Saviour Kasukuwere — had “floored” many of Mnangagwa’s supporters in the party’s ongoing restructuring programme.
“Surprisingly, where you would have expected Tyson (Kasukuwere) and the G40 to be punished by the party for doing this, President Mugabe has actually moved to reward the group with important Cabinet positions,” the central committee member said. -Daily News
3 Men Rape 5Yr Old, 13Yr Old Girls
Three men have appeared in court for a string of rape offences involving the abuse of a 5 year old and two 13 year olds each respectively.
The first of these cases has already been concluded and the alleged offender convicted albeit the fact that the man’s lawyer was not present during the allocated defence time.
In his judgment, Magistrate Mr Mahwe said the State managed to prove through a medical affidavit produced in court that the girl was penetrated.
“The girl’s age is also not in dispute. It is not in dispute that the accused gave the girl money for sadza and $5 for the school trip.
“Above all, the girl’s evidence was credible and she even said the sexual act was consensual.”
Madzudzo was found guilty and was remanded in custody for his sentence.
In a related matter, a 26-year old man, Noah Tafirenyika, also allegedly raped 13-year-old girl.
It is alleged that the girl was lured by her friend to go and play at their house after Tafirenyika coaxed the friend to take the girl away from her home.
Another 23-year-old man, Clemence Mundezha, allegedly raped a five -year old after her mother had gone to fetch water.
Mundezha and Tafirenyika were remanded in custody.
Govt Bans School Bus Imports
THE government has directed schools to buy buses from local assemblers to curb alleged corruption in the purchases. Slyvia Utete-Masango, the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, recently wrote to Provincial Education Directors and District Education Officers informing them of the latest position.
In a letter dated June 24, Utete-Masango said there were concerns that schools were being defrauded by some bus suppliers.
“Following the rise in malpractices in the procurement of the buses by schools as well as the increasing number of schools that are being taken advantage of by shrewd suppliers, the ministry approached the State Procurement Board (SPB) in order to find lasting solutions to the matter,” wrote Utete-Masango.
“The SPB passed a resolution on the matter through PBR 0365 of April 1, 2015, in which the ministry, through the accounting officer was directed to approach three local companies in line with the mid-year fiscal policy and the Zim-Asset blueprint, for the procurement of the buses.”
She said schools were being instructed to submit their bus requirements through their district and provincial offices.
Provincial offices are required to consolidate the bus requirements and submit the list to the ministry to facilitate bulk purchases to enable savings through quantity discounts.
Added Utete-Masango: “Head Office will approach the following bus companies for quotations: AVM, Deven Engineering and FAW Zimbabwe. The ministry also conducted a due diligence on the three companies and found that FAW Zimbabwe and AVM are quite capable of meeting the needs of the schools in terms of provision of buses but there was not much going at Deven Engineering.”
The Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Professor Paul Mavhima yesterday told The Chronicle that the government came up with the directive to ensure transparency in the purchase of buses.
“It was a process to rationalise the bus prices and wipe out corruption in our schools. We wanted to control the cost of buses because you would see a school buying a bus for $100,000 while another school bought a similar bus for $230,000,” said Prof Mavhima.
He said the three companies that will now supply the buses have the capacity to do so.
“There was so much variation on money that was channelled to purchase buses. We wanted to rationalise the process.
“We did a tender process where bus companies forwarded the cost of their buses. After looking at all the buses, three companies were chosen that should provide buses,” added Prof Mavhima.
Matabeleland North acting PED Jabulani Mpofu said the directive does not affect the province much.
“I know that there was a proposal that schools must buy their buses locally. However, this doesn’t really affect us as we’re a rural province without finances to buy new buses. We usually buy reconditioned buses,” said Mpofu.
FAW Zimbabwe managing director Patrick Masosha said they can supply buses according to customer specifications.
“There were serious issues that authorities felt should be dealt with. People of no fixed abode were supplying the buses causing price instabilities,” said Masosha. “To us its business as usual. It’s not something we can go to town about. Out targets go beyond the schools and there’re other players that have been considered for the tender.”
He said his company has the capacity to produce 26 to 86-seater buses for prices ranging from $31,000 to $90,000 depending on customer needs.

Pasuwa:Toilet Bowl-Water for Warrior’s Drink in Disaster
Zimbabwe and South African players resorted to drinking water from the toilet bowl to contain effects of teargas fumes during the July 9, 2000 National Sports Stadium disaster.
This was revealed by Calisto Pasuwa, who was one of the Warriors defenders, during that ill-fated 2002 World Cup qualifier stampede which left 13 people dead and thousands injured.
Shortly after Bafana Bafana midfielder Delron Buckley scored the visitors’ second goal, all hell broke loose as Warriors fans began throwing missiles onto the pitch.
Police reacted by firing teargas into the stands with close to 40 000 fans which resulted in stampedes as people ran for cover.
Alec Fidesi, Eularia Made, T Makonese, Tawanda Gwanzura, Patrick Mpariwa, Killian Madondo, George Chin’anga, Sam Mavhuro, Enock Chimombe, Joyce Chimbamba, Benhilda Magadu, Ronald Kufakunesu and Tonderai Jeke all lost their lives in the chaos.
Up until this day, the disaster remains as one of Zimbabwe’s worst sporting tragedies and sadly, very little has been done to commemorate those lost lives.
The 15th anniversary of the disaster came and went unnoticed last week with the entire Zimbabwe football fraternity turning a blind eye on this sorry episode.
However, speaking to the Daily News yesterday, Pasuwa, who is now the Zimbabwe national team coach, spoke of the horror the players on the field went through.
“All I still remember is when they (Bafana) scored their second goal and the fans started throwing missiles presumably in retaliation to a gesture Buckley had made,” said Pasuwa.
“The referee and the security ushered us towards the centre circle where we could not get hit by missiles but that’s when the police started firing the teargas.
“Some fans threw back some of the teargas canisters onto the field and the fumes were now affecting us as well.
“The last memory I have after that is of Norman Mapeza running towards the terraces screaming that one of his relatives had been trampled on during the stampede.”
From there on, it was total chaos according to Pasuwa.
“The teargas fumes were now heavy and together with the other players, we tried to run back into the dressing rooms from the centre circle,” he said.
“I could barely run as I couldn’t breathe because of the teargas. I lost consciousness and passed out on the turf.
“I don’t know who carried me but all I could remember was waking up in the dressing room and drinking water directly from the toilet bowl.
“Because of all the chaos, you could not find a sink to drink from and the toilet bowl was the easiest option to get water.
“Everyone was getting water from the toilet bowl even the South African players as well. All the team doctors and medics were running all over to try and help us.”
Pasuwa said as the commotion in the dressing rooms died down, most of the players did not realise the full extent of the tragedy which had just unfolded before their eyes.
“At that point, we were still disappointed with the result and the traumatic experience we had just gone through with the teargas fumes,” he said.
“It was when we got to the hotel and we were told a number of people had died in the stampede but were not quite sure of the numbers.
“It was just a sorry situation at the hotel as we could not comprehend what had just transpired.”
Pasuwa, who went on to coach Dynamos and win four league titles on the trot, feels the country needs to do more to commemorate those 13 lives lost.
“After a tragedy like this, we need to sit down to discuss how we can honour those who have lost their lives,” he said.
“These people had families and some were breadwinners so we need to keep on supporting them up until this day.
“You must remember, those who died had come to support us the players and Zimbabwe their country. They were in the stadium for a good reason and we need to respect them even after they have died.
“I know the current economic situation might hinder us from supporting their families financially but just honouring those 13 people will go a long way in making the loss easy for their families.
“Look, other countries like Zambia are doing it. Supporters are also an integral part of football.”

Mnangagwa Humiliates Mugabe in China
Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa has humiliated Zimbabwe, his boss Robert Mugabe, and his ZANU PF party in China where he had travelled to pursue progress on Mugabe’s much publicised mega deals signed at the beginning of the year.
In a televised interview Mnangagwa revealed Zimbabwe is still a million years away from realising any returns from Robert Mugabe’s mega deals with the fiery Red-Dragons.
He made this shocking and lengthy fumble while being grilled by CCTV News on Zimbabwe’s indigenisation policy having been asked what policies his employer has put in place to safeguard investors.
The development comes barely a few months after the VP this year audibly praised his party’s enemies saying, “Pamberi neMhandu.”
Responding during the interview in which he also instead of speaking on Zimbabwe’s behalf, Mnangagwa appeared to be acting for the Chinese nation than his own employers, the Vice President said “China is ready. The burden is now on Zimbabwe to produce bankable projects. It could be infrastructure. It could be in IT, China is ready to support.”
It was at that moment that Mnangagwa threw the cat out of the bag by revealing that Zimbabwe three (3) years after it instituted the controversial indigenisation program, is not even educated enough to know “that investments can only go where they get a return.”
He said, “…but of course we must know that investments can only go where it gets a return(sic-grammar). So we must make sure we create an environment where investors are happy to put their money because they will have a return…
“So (on) the question of indigenisation, we fight with people because they read Western papers. But when you come to Zimbabwe and sit down with us, they will be more than happy to invest in Zimbabwe and the question of repatriation of their profits again it’s open. We now use the US dollar,” he said.
He continued, “so there is no question of hard currency, already that’s the hard currency, the currency that governs the world and I can assure you that Zimbabwe is a good destiny(sic) for investments. Whatever sector of the economy you may have in mind.”

Dzamara:Mugabe Finally Speaks
It is the responsibility of investigating arms of Government, not President Mugabe’s, to take a leading role in establishing the whereabouts of journalist-cum MDC-T activist Itai Dzamara, Presidential spokesperson George Charamba said yesterday.
Charamba said it was sad that some misguided elements were vainly using the alleged disappearance of Dzamara in a bid to regain political foothold.
Dzamara “disappeared” on March 9 and opposition parties have tried to capitalise on the development, blaming the President and ZANU-PF for the alleged abduction.
The European Union and the US have dutifully issued several Press statements threatening that Dzamara’s “disappearance” would further spoil relations with Zimbabwe.
Said Mr Charamba: “I dismiss calls for the President to pronounce himself on the matter as pre-eminently political and thus not worthy of his attention. People go missing here and elsewhere in the world.
“In our case, some skip the borders to go to foreign lands, others get caught up in mishaps and still others might just change location and withdraw from contacts. The fact of the missing persons need not indict sitting Governments the way it is playing out here.”
Mr Charamba said opposition political parties and non-governmental organisations were tainting the image of Government before police pronounced themselves on the matter.
“The script we are getting from those that present to be concerned about a missing citizen is that Government is guilty until proven innocent,” he said.
“It’s a strange sense of justice and there are also claims that Dzamara was an opponent of Government. Dzamara was never an opponent, let alone an enemy, of the Government much as he and his associates, obviously to give profile and consequence to themselves, may have had that as a wish-image.
“What obligates sitting Governments in respect of missing persons is for them to enquire and investigate as to their whereabouts, and this in line with basic international norms and expectations, principally that governments stand in loco parentis to all citizenry.”
Investigating authorities, Mr Charamba said, would make a public report when done with investigations.
“This, the Government of Zimbabwe has, is, will do, albeit without fanfare as is being demanded by persons, parties and interests which seek to feed political fate on the missing person,” he said.
“When it is appropriate, a public report shall be made by the investigating authorities in ways that do not jeopardise investigations, but never for the edification of persons, parties or interests whether local or foreign.”
He added: “It is clear to Government that there is a vain hope to use the missing person for political parties to regain political foothold and mileage and in the case of foreign interests to put Zimbabwe back in the dock.
“It leaves Government wondering whether or not the whole incident is not a politically calculated contrivance. Before long, investigations shall reveal.”
Last Saturday, civil society, opposition parties and church leaders convened a prayer meeting ostensibly in honour of Dzamara.
White Farmers Called-In To Rescue Zimbabwe
Zimbabwe’s government has for the first time suggested it might give permission for some white farmers to stay on the land, 15 years after it sanctioned land grabs that pushed the country into an economic crisis.
Douglas Mombeshora, the land minister, said provincial leaders had been asked to draw up a list of white farmers whom they wanted to stay on farms deemed to be “of strategic economic importance”.
“We do not have a separate policy for white people when it comes to land distribution. We have asked provinces to give us the names of white farmers they want to remain on farms so that we can give them security of tenure documents to enable them to plan their operations properly,” he said.
More than 4000 white farmers lost their land after Mugabe lost a referendum on a new constitution and, in an attempt to regain popularity, authorised land grabs by disaffected war veterans.
Today, fewer than 300 white farmers remain and many of the seized farms lie fallow, meaning Zimbabwe has to import food.-TimesLive
Dzamara: Australia Repeats Demands Mugabe Action
The Australian Ambassador to Zimbabwe Suzanne McCourt says Zimbabwe is not yet fit to be re-integrated into the Global world.
The disqualification of Zimbabwe to fit into the international community has been further caused by its reluctance to investigate the disappearance of rights activist Itai Dzamara who was abducted by suspected state security agents four months ago.
Dzamara prior to his disappearance, he was staging peaceful protests against President Robert Mugabe who he demanded to fulfill his 2013 election campaign promises of creating jobs.
Since his abduction government has not given an update on Dzamara’s investigations despite the existence of a court order directing them to do so.
In an exclusive interview with ZimEye.com Ambassador McCourt said although there has been progress in the Zimbabwe-Australia bridge building process, like other western countries, they are worried by the lack of democratic principles observation by Harare.
“There is certainly some improvement that could happen in the bilateral relationship and I think both governments are aware of that but there are some few issues that need to be resolved and I am looking forward to working on those issues during my time here,” she said.
“Australia has along with other governments been keen to encourage democratic values in all where we work; Australia has a very strong democratic tradition”.
Ambassador McCourt said during her term of offices she will intensify dialogue with everyone so that Zimbabwe once rejoins the international community.
“I have come with mandate to engage as broadly as I can, to speak with members of government, members o f the opposition, and other political parties, to speak with community members and whoever I can reach out to,” she said.
More MDC Bosses Ditch Welshman
Beleaguered Welshman Ncube led MDC could be faced with more senior members defections to the MDC Renewal.
Very reliable sources in the MDC Renewal claim that former MDC National Spokesperson Nhlanhla Dube and former Secretary General and parliamentarian Priscillia Misihairabwi Mushonga could be the latest former right hand persons to Professor Welshman Ncube to make a move to the MDC Renewal. Also mentioned in the list of senior MDC officials said to be making their way to the MDC Renewal is former Gwanda mayor Lionel De Necker.
The sources indicated that the MDC Renewal is strategically building up for it’s congress scheduled to be held before the end of the year and so in the process of recruiting “big brains and reputable people” to have the people elected into the party’s structures at congress. According to the sources the party is welcoming most people “disgruntled by the operations of the MDC and the MDC T as they seek to reestablish the 1999 founding values of the MDC.”
The sources claim that Mushonga, Dube and De Necker have been approached by the party’s senior officials and have agreed on paper to join the party and an announcement will be officially made soon. The sources claim that negotiations are currently being held with several other prominent opposition politicians in favour of democratic principles of the original MDC.
Other high ranking former MDC officials who have found their way into the MDC Renewal include former National Chairman Frank Chamunorwa, former Matabeleland South Chairman Petros Mukwena and several other members of the youth wing.
Contacted for a comment, Dube and De Necker rubbished the said moves to the MDC Renewal.
“They are possibly speaking from the realm of wishes and dreams,” said Dube.
De Necker also described the link to the Renewal as wishful thinking by the MDC Renewal leadership. He denied attending a meeting with the MDC Renewal officials where he was offered a senior position in the party’s National Executive.
“The MDC Renewal is composed mostly of people I have worked with in the MDC and they remain my friends and nothing can stop me from associating with them,” said De Necker.
An official of the MDC who would not have his name published however indicated that there could be an element of truth in the information provided by the sources. The official indicated that at a recent standing committee meeting held in Gweru a motion seeking to withdraw Mushonga from parliament because of her links with the MDC Renewal was moved but left unclosed. He further indicated that De Necker could indeed be on his way out of the party after the former mayor has been disassociating himself with party activities including withdrawing from the party’s national executive committee social media chat groups.
The official further stated that there is a likelihood of seeing more members of the party moving to the MDC Renewal ahead of the party’s congress with a hope of landing leadership positions at the congress. The two parties have been negotiating a unification exercise which appears to have collapsed prompting an exodus of ambitious members to the newly formed party.
Grace Is A Better President than Mujuru – STUDY
A snap opinion survey has suggested that first lady Grace Mugabe is a far much better candidate for the presidency than expelled vice president Joice Mujuru.
The survey conducted by the little known Generation X Institute suggests that Grace Mugabe will be a better president for Zimbabwe than Mujuru.
100 people were sampled around Zimbabwe and the shady organisation claims that they credibly represent the Zimbabwean population. Each participant was used to vote on one question regarding the suitability of either candidate.
66 percent voted for Mrs Mugabe while the rest went for Mujuru.
A brief look at their portfolio however showed that the paper is the organisation’s first ever survey.
Thief Who Burnt Man’s House Jailed
A 30-YEAR OLD man from Mvuma was yesterday jailed for an effective five years after he was convicted of theft charges and arson.
Taurai Felix Munatsi stole an assortment of goods belonging to Jerifano Manyemba at Plot 62 Musena in Mvuma and a week later burnt the house to ashes to conceal the theft.
Magistrate, Shotgame Musaiona convicted Munatsi on two charges of theft and malicious damage to property.
On the first count Munatsi was sentenced to seven years of which one year was suspended on condition of good behaviour.
A further three years was suspended on condition Munatsi paid $4 090 restitution to the complainant by August 31.
On the second count Munatsi was slapped with five years in jail and a year was suspended.
The remaining two years were suspended on condition that he pays $3 215 restitution by the end of August.
Munatsi’s alleged accomplice, Francis Chitawu is still on the run.
Prosecutor Andrew Marimo told the court that on June 30, Munatsi entered premises at Plot 62 Musena where he stole a bike, solar equipment, radio, satellite dish, generator, water pump, DVD players, half bucket of maize, telescope, car battery, blanket and clothes.
On July 7, Munatsi and Chitawu went to Manyemba’s homestead and set the thatched house on fire.
Inside the burnt house were nine bags of fertiliser, six asbestos sheets, wardrobe, five doors and door frames among other goods.
Munatsi was arrested after a tip off.-SouthernEye
Christians; Amen to what?
I see many black folk obsessed with commenting with the word “Amen” in some social media posts which are deliberately designed to evoke feelings of pity and empathy. I also see many people, especially so-called gospelpreneurs like TB Joshua, leading the bandwagon, asking their followers to write ‘Amen’ in response to their posts, either as a sign of agreeing with their statements/posts or as a prelude to receiving some “blessing”, untold riches even! Of late I have witnessed a trend where people post pictures of the disabled, abused women, orphans and even the diseased, and asking us to type Amen if we agree that their situation is horrendous. Such kind of blatant spiritual and emotional blackmail really gets my goat because it serves no purpose other than helping impart in us a false sense of religious gravitas.
There is nothing religious about typing Amen in social media posts on Facebook without taking the requisite practical steps to alleviate a fellow neighbour’s pitiful circumstances. These people whose heart-rending photos we splash on social media without their knowledge need more than just our sympathy, they need our help. It’s about time us Africans collectively opened our eyes and honestly self-introspected and copied how other races address problems afflicting them. They do not just waste time typing meaningless Amen’s on social media but instead do what needs to be done to improve their lot.
Hiroshima and Nagasaki epitomised the state Japan was in when the Second World War came to an end in 1945. Atom-bombed almost to extinction by the Allies, the country was in a sorry state. However, by 1960, Japan’s economy was well on course to being the fastest growing in the world at that time.
Most recently Japan again experienced one of its most devastating earthquakes in recent history, yet within a year or two its economy is once again riding the crest of a wave as if nothing has happened. How on earth have the Japanese managed to not only endure the unendurable but also come out of it stronger? The answer is simple: they do not waste their precious time evoking feelings of self pity on social media, nay, they act! Their strong will, self-belief and national values give them strength and power to rise from the ashes like the proverbial phoenix and change their circumstances, whereas us Africans seem permanently resigned to our poverty-stricken fate and are constantly hoping for some stroke of supernatural intervention while simultaneously typing Amen on Facebook and counting how many “likes” our pitiful posts have garnered! Is that being helpful to the suffering people involved? Does that heal anyone of their terminal illness, make them rich, “cure” their disability or curb domestic violence, etc? Of course not!
Do we understand the true import behind the powerful word Amen or we merely grew up hearing it said in rounds of prayer and simply followed suit? To the uninitiated and lazy to google, the word Amen simply means “so be it” , “be confirmed/supported/upheld” . In a mundane context, the word Amen is merely an adjective expressing our agreement with a statement. If said at the end of a prayer, it expresses the genuineness of one’s prayer request. It is simply a word used to agree with, affirm, approve, or emphasize something else that has been said. This information is readily available online for those willing to google and seek to understand the meaning behind the word some pseudo men of God have made a career out of by typing daily while neglecting its spirit of pragmatism in helping the poor and vulnerable in our communities the way other races do.
In a biblical context, Amen is usually the last word of either a solemn statement or prayer whilst our Lord Jesus often used it at the beginning of an anecdote, sermon or parable as either “verily” or “truly”. In the gospel accounts of Mark chapter 9:1 and Luke chapter 9:27, the word Amen implies “truth”, “verity”, hence when uttering it we are simply saying in the presence of God, “I agree with that”, “I believe that to be true” or “I want that to be so”. The word Amen is also found twice in the last two verses of the last book of the bible–Revelation 22:20,21–whilst most of the New Testament books close with it. Those who study a lot of Old Testament prophecy will remember that when intercession for–or prophecy was delivered on– Israel or the law of God was read out, “…all the people answered, Amen, Amen…” , (Nehemiah 5:13; 8:6, KJV, 2000). Also bear in mind that the Lord’s Prayer closes with Amen, (Matthew 6:13) while the Lord’s apostle to the Gentiles, Paul, taught brethren in Corinth to end their thanksgiving with Amen and to say it with understanding, (1Corinthians 14:16). Thus the word “Amen” seals whatever we do or say in the presence of God.
So folks, do not misquote me; I am not saying we should not pray at all or believe in God. All I am simply encouraging to be done is for us to be pragmatic without putting everything inside the Amen basket of wishes and hopes and resting on our laurels. Wishes and hopes only prayed for but not claimed through practical action will remain just that: wishes and hopes. Enough with the abuse of Amen already! Us black folk love our prayers more than being pragmatic. When called upon to offer real help to our fellow neighbour whose pictures we display on social media with reckless abandon to garner choruses of Amen, we are often found wanting. Let the truth be known: prayer alone will not feed a hungry soul, for example. If it did, the black race would be the most prosperous on earth! When praying, we can scream, shout, dance and wail ourselves hoarse, but without action, we will only remain mired in poverty.
It is about time we re-examined our conduct towards those less fortunate than ourselves instead of abusing religion. A religion devoid of practical life-saving action on the part of the believer is a bit like political propaganda–it only serves to promote one’s selfish interests whilst turning others into objects of abuse. Let us desist from abusing the vulnerable by turning them into nothing little more than “likes” of Amen’s on Facebook when what they need most is our practical help. We need to fully understand the essence of Amen before next typing it. Do you agree that the person needs help? If so take practical steps to see what part you can play in helping them solve their problem because by simply typing Amen you are not helping the situation at all. In conclusion, I say Amen to helping our neighbour who could use with some acts of kindness. My parting prayer is: Lord help me stop simply typing Amen on social media but to start being useful either financially or materially in helping those in need. Amen.
Mnangagwa’s Tshinga Dube Humiliated In Parliament
Makokoba MP Tshinga Dube yesterday struggled to read his prepared maiden speech in Parliament and was forced to sit down after his extended time ran out.
VERENANDA LANGA|Newsday| Dube spoke in a very low voice causing opposition MPs to lampoon him saying he was speaking to himself.
The MPs said the legislator should just hand over his speech to Hansard, a parliamentary publication that records proceedings verbatim, so that MPs will read it the following day.
Mabvuku/Tafara MP James Maridadi (MDC-T) even took a picture of Dube in jest.
Maridadi’s actions led Bindura South MP Remigious Matangira (Zanu PF) to suggest to the deputy Speaker Mabel Chinomona that the MDC-T MP should be thrown out of the House.
Chinomona ignored Matangira’s plea, but reminded Maridadi that he was not a journalist.
She said MPs were not allowed to take pictures of other legislators while they debated in the House.
Dube continued to read his speech inaudibly before other MPs offered him some bottled water assuming he was thirsty or choking.
After his 15 minutes lapsed, Zanu PF deputy chief whip Francis Mukwangwariwa moved that Dube’s time be extended.
Chinomona allowed it to be extended by a further five minutes as per parliamentary standing rules and orders.
However, Dube’s speech remained inaudible, causing Musikavanhu MP Prosper Mutseyami (MDC-T) to complain.
“Madam Speaker, can something be done to assist Dube to raise his voice, otherwise it would be better for him to just submit his speech to the Hansard,” he said.
Chinomona rejected the suggestion saying there was nothing that could be done to help the Zimbabwe Defence Industries boss.
“He just has a low voice and there is nothing that can be done,” she said.
“But at the same time the extended five minutes have again expired and the MP can just hand over his speech to Hansard.”
Some of the issues that were in Dube’s speech included that his constituency, which was thriving in its heydays now signified squalor due to economic difficulties.
“The constituency has a rich heritage with celebrities like politicians, entertainers and popular footballers like Madinda, Adam and Peter Ndlovu having come out of Makokoba,” he said.
“We also have popular landmarks like Stanley Square, Renkini Terminus, Mpilo Hospital and others.
“The majority of people in Makokoba live in poverty due to economic problems and closure of companies. Many people have become vagrants while still more have migrated to South Africa where they are often subjected to barbaric treatment. Sadly the younger generation has been driven towards drugs and many people struggle to send their children to school.”
In an unrelated matter, Sunningdale MP Gift Chimanikire (MDC-T) said the country was failing to attract investment because of human rights violations.
Chimanikire cited a Victoria Falls incident where President Robert Mugabe was making a speech to accept African Union chairmanship, while his body guards were busy beating up an old woman who had collected grass near the venue.
“Young Zimbabweans marching in the streets to protest about unemployment are brutally beaten by police — and how can investors come into the country?” Chimanikire asked.
He was debating a motion introduced last week by Hatfield MP Tapiwa Mashakada (MDC-T) on the deteriorating social and economic conditions in the country.-SouthernEye
Sibanda’s CourtCase Quashed By Magistrate
SUSPENDED Zifa vice-president Omega Sibanda’s $10 000 defamation lawsuit against Norkel Security was struck off the roll at the Bulawayo Civil Court due to lack of evidence.
Magistrate Evelyn Mashavakure dismissed the case after Sibanda failed to prove that the security company had defamed him.
Sibanda had accused the security company and its security officer Athanasius Ngano of falsely claiming that he bulldozed his way into Barbourfields Stadium.
The company allegedly said he forced the guards to allow 10 fans into the stadium without paying for a soccer match between Highlanders and Caps United on May 4.
The lawsuit arose from a letter Ngano wrote to Premier Soccer League Chief executive officer Kennedy Ndebele on May 5 complaining about Sibanda’s conduct.
Part of Ngano’s letter reads: “Zifa vice-president gave us a challenge as he had to force us to allow about 10 people free entry into the stadium.
“Our steward only noticed Ezra Tshisa Sibanda (former Radio 2 disk jockey), Samukeliso Silengane and eight others whom we failed to identify.”
The security guard also claimed Sibanda manhandled their official.
“We did not expect such action from a high profile figure,” submitted the security company.
Sibanda claimed the allegations had defamed him and demanded the security firm pay $10 000 damages plus interest at a prescribed rate of 5%, but Norkel maintained that its report was true and was not aimed at defaming him.-SouthernEye

Cemetery Accident – Gonyet Deathly Overturns
A haulage truck driver survived death by a whisker on Monday evening when his vehicle overturned along Simon Mazorodze Road at the round about popularly known as “Pambudzi” cemetery.
The accident caused heavy congestion that lasted for several hours.
Eye witnesses say the haulage truck overturned when the load spilled to the left side while the haulage truck was negotiating the round about.
Grain Marketing Board workers tirelessly worked trying to recover the grain and clear the road.
The congestion was bad news for South African bound buses and trucks that were rushing to find the Beitbridge border still open.
Mphoko, Mnangagwa Are Still Good Buddies |OPINION

Conflict between VPs wishful thinking
The recent claim by a local weekly newspaper that there are conflicts between the two Vice Presidents (VP) Emmerson Mnangagwa and Phelekezela Mphoko should be dismissed as untrue and baseless.
Ibbo Mandaza’s nonsensical argument that President Mugabe is behind the alleged VPs’ conflicts should be flatly rejected. When President appointed the two VPs he rightly noted that they were at par, meaning that by the time they took oath of office they would perform their duties at the same level. President Mugabe never mentioned that one VP will be senior to the other. No!
It is true to say that the alleged fissures between VP Mphoko and VP Mnangagwa are just machinations of the private media. The private media has been creating a wrong impression with too many inaccuracies and groundless assertions that there are clashes between the two VPs. Also, the private media together with political commentators have always been trying hard to set a wrong agenda by misinforming the general populace that there is tension between the VPs.
Nevertheless, if the truth be told the two VPs work hand in glove. It cannot be disputed that the two Comrades once worked together in the Ministry of State Security; hence the two understands each other better than anyone else. VP Mphoko once held Ambassadorial posts which are almost similar to a Ministerial post which VP Mnangagwa previously held. Hence, Mandaza’s argument that VP Mphoko was once junior to VP Mnangagwa should be shrugged off.
At one point VP Mphoko clarified that there was neither first nor second Vice President in the new structure. This depicts the fact that the two Comrades operate at same rank.
According to the Sixth Schedule of the current Constitution, the two Vice Presidents are appointed by President in terms of section of 14(2) which says that, “Without any delay the person elected as President in any election must appoint not more than two Vice-Presidents, who will hold office at his or her pleasure”.
Further to that section 14(3) says, “Where two Vice Presidents are appointed in terms of subparagraph 2 President may from time to time nominate one of them to act as President whenever he is absent from Zimbabwe…”
According to the Constitution, it is therefore correct to say President Mugabe can nominate either of the two VPs to act on his behalf when he is outside country. Recently, VP Mphoko was the acting President when President Mugabe was in New York for a United Nations International Ebola Recovery Conference. VP Mnangagwa has also held the post several times. Therefore, the battle of seniority between VP Mphoko and VP Mnangagwa is untrue as being said and published by the private media.
The private media is trying to set an agenda on the succession issue. Contrary to the machinations of private press on the matter of succession, President Mugabe noted that when time comes, the electorate will choose a person of their choice. Hence, the two VPs are equal at law.
Early this year, while talking to ZANU-PF youths, President Mugabe said the two VPs were at par; hence people should stop generating factions.
“If you are choosing between my two Vice-Presidents, you are beginning your own Gamatox”.
“They occupy equal sphere. If you say you want this one to succeed, you are already bringing division within the people….” said President Mugabe.
Despite all the allegations thrown at President Mugabe and the two Vice Presidents, it is heartening that our leaders concentrate more on the economy resuscitation issues rather than political issues as pointed out by Mandaza and other illogical political analysts.
As it stands, there have never been any misunderstandings between the two VPs. From Mandaza’s sentiments, it would appear as if VP Mphoko and VP Mnangagwa are always at each other’s throat, which is nothing but just a fallacy.

Obert Mpofu Escapes With $3mln Council, Govt Cash
Transport Minister Obert Mpofu’s business is escaping with around $3million of government and council cash as a result of the collapse of his Allied Bank.
Zimbabwe’s cash-strapped government is set to lose nearly $600,000 which is locked up in Allied Bank — majority owned by transport minister Obert Mpofu — while municipals and other state departments are owed over $2,5 million following its collapse early this year, with chances of recovering all the money slim, The Source has established.
The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe in January cancelled the bank’s operating licence as it was no longer in a safe a sound condition.
According to the bank liquidator’s interim report, the financial institution collapsed due to, among other factors, negative core capital, illiquid toxic assets, management shortcomings, gross undercapitalisation, persistent losses, abuse of depositors’ funds, high volume of non-performing loans and bad corporate governance.
Claims presented during a meeting at the High Court recently, show that government ministries, parastatals and municipalities are among creditors owed by the bank.
The indigenisation ministry is owed $333,491 while the education ministry is owed $228,760. Government parastatals and municipalities whose funds are also locked in the bank include Bulawayo City Council which is owed $495,000; City of Gweru $5,000; NRZ Pension Fund $25,000; TelOne $2,000; National Social Security Authority; $807,000 and the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority $1,2 million.
The bank, which emerged from the ashes of the Zimbabwe Amalgamated Banking Group – was created by the central bank in 2004 to warehouse the assets of three troubled banks.
When the High Court approved the bank’s liquidation in February, its assets were recorded at $25, 8 million while liabilities stood at $34,4 million.
However, according to the law, statutory bodies and secured creditors are paid in full once assets of a company being liquidated are sold while the rest are paid on a pro-rata basis.
“…liquidation costs are paid first, and then the residue is distributed in order of the following preferences – secured creditors, preferent creditors and the balance is lastly paid to the concurrent creditors (unsecured),” read a report to creditors by the liquidator’s agent, Cecil Madondo.
The report however, did not list the government ministries as secured creditors, making it highly possible that they will lose some of the money depending on the amount realized from the sale of the bank’s assets.-Source
BREAKING NEWS:Mnangagwa Man Found Dead Gamatoxed with 3 Kids
Shurugwi – A close relative of Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa was found dead here of a cyanide attack.
Mr Joachim Mungenge is said to have killed his three children before turning on himself according to the latest indications
The incident has left the entire Shurugwi community shell-shocked.
Mungenge is a cousin-brother in-law relation of VP Mnangagwa through his first wife who was also sister to the late army commander Josiah Tongogara. The incident also comes short in the heels of a cyanide attack on Mnangagwa’s office in December last year.
‘We are all short of words and this is indeed an appalling tragedy,’ a police source told ZimEye.com.
The children were in form 4, form 2 and grade 6 respectively. Their bodies were at Shurugwi police station for several hours yesterday.
The police are said to be investigating the case amid a community outcry that they are compromising evidence on what truly happened.
Although the State Media were yesterday blocked from covering the incident, ZimEye.com managed to obtain interviews with key people.
‘It appears the man became possessed with spirits,” suggested one source close to the investigations.
Mnangagwa could not be reached for comment as he was said to have kncoked off work at the time of writing.
Grace On Mnangagwa’s Throat
FIRST LADY Grace Mugabe has begun fighting Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa having already expelled Mnangagwa ally Mash West chair Ziyambi Ziyambi, a report suggests.
The uneasy alliance of the past year between First Lady Grace Mugabe and Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa is apparently unravelling, as President Robert Mugabe’s increasingly influential wife is now said to be working again with Zanu PF’s ambitious Young Turks who operate as the Generation 40 (G40) camp, the Daily News reports.
Zanu PF insiders quoted by the Daily News yesterday said that a number of developments over the past few weeks suggested that the pact between Grace and Mnangagwa, which had been witnessed when they worked together to annihilate former Vice President Joice Mujuru and her allies, “is now on shaky grounds”.
One of the well-placed sources said it was clear that all was not well between the two, particularly as it became more evident that “Dr Amai (Grace) could be priming herself for the ultimate post, rather than assist Ngwena (Mnangagwa) to get there”.
“I think you guys in the media are missing a trick here. It’s not the G40 that is reeling under pressure, no. It is the Mnangagwa camp that is taking a massive beating at the hands of people who are hobnobbing with Dr Amai as comrades and their factions fight to the bitter end to succeed President Mugabe,” he said.
Giving examples of how much the Mnangagwa faction was under the cosh, the senior party official said in the past fortnight alone, a number of alleged key allies of the VP had either been suspended from the smouldering ruling party ship or had been publicly humiliated, with Grace said to be at the centre of all of this.
The province’s secretary for administration, Simbarashe Ziyambi, said part of the accusations against Ziyambi included untested allegations that he was feeding ousted former provincial boss Temba Mliswa with incriminating information about how the ruling party had allegedly rigged the recent Hurungwe West by-election.
“Due to the gravity of these offences, and as clearly spelt out in the Zanu PF constitution, we recommended that Ziyambi be expelled from the party on grounds of misconduct, disloyalty and treachery,” Simbarashe Ziyambi said.
The province which presented its petition on Ziyambi to Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko — who apart from heading Zanu PF’s disciplinary committee, is also aligned to the G40 camp and is engaged in a vicious power brawl with Mnangagwa — accused the ousted acting chairperson of working against Grace.
“In gross violation of the party statutes, Ziyambi Ziyambi, connived with a small cabal and leaked party secrets to Temba Mliswa and clandestinely encouraged and assisted by way of passing information on our campaign strategies to him and his family.
“Ziyambi Ziyambi mounted a vigorous campaign to dissuade members of Zanu PF from attending the much publicised Kadoma ZimAsset-inspired business and housing initiative by Macsherp, which was officiated by the First Lady, Dr Grace Mugabe, in the company of two vice presidents, Cde Mnangagwa and Cde Mphoko, the secretary for Administration Cde Ignatius Chombo and several politburo and central committee members,” Simbarashe Ziyambi added.
Another well-placed source corroborated the claims that the G40 — which allegedly includes self proclaimed “political thug” and Zanu PF’s national commissar and minister of Local Government, Saviour Kasukuwere — had “floored” many of Mnangagwa’s supporters in the party’s ongoing restructuring programme.
“Surprisingly, where you would have expected Tyson (Kasukuwere) and the G40 to be punished by the party for doing this, President Mugabe has actually moved to reward the group with important Cabinet positions,” the central committee member said.
Nigeria President Fires Army Generals
Reuters|NIGERIA’s PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari sacked his army, navy, air force and defence chiefs on Monday, a widely anticipated move as the former general has made crushing Islamist militant group Boko Haram his top priority.
Replacements would be announced later on Monday, the presidency spokesperson told Reuters.
Since his inauguration in May, Buhari has moved Nigeria’s defence command centre to Maiduguri, the birthplace of the jihadi sect, and is setting up the headquarters for a multi-national joint task force in Chad’s capital N’Djamena.
In June, Amnesty International accused Nigeria’s military of systemic human rights abuses and the deaths of 8 000 prisoners and called for an investigation into many top military officials including the army and air force chiefs.
Former President Goodluck Jonathan was heavily criticised for his inability to deal with the six-year insurgency in the northeast of Africa’s biggest oil producer which has killed thousands and displaced 1.5 million people.
Army morale hit an all-time low under Jonathan and it was not until the start of 2015 that the militants were finally pushed out of most areas with the help of foreign mercenaries, troops from neighbouring countries and new equipment.
But Nigerians saw Jonathan’s victories as too little too late.

A Gauteng based prophet who shot headlines stepping his body onto people’s bodies, has caused a shocker, this time making worshipers eat a snakes.
Prophet Penuel as he is popularly called, is seen in the below picture coverage ordering church members to consume live snakes because he has commanded it to become bread.
“This snake here I command it to become bread. It is now bread. Your must believe it now eat and enjoy”, he told members before landing the reptile into a congregant’s mouth.

Give Us Jobs First!, Vendors Return To Cities Again
No amount of bullying, burning, or bashing can turn away Zimbabwe’s vendors, the street merchants have proved after they made a boisterous return to the cities yesterday.
Barely (3) three days after they were brutally bashed by the police, the vendors have vowed with their lives as they seek to sustain their families in this time of catastrophic economic turmoil.
Recent revelations that the Municipal Police are army trained will not stop them.
Zimbabwe Informal Sector Organisations(ZISO) Director Promise Mkwananzi told ZimEye.com the vendors are not going anywhere until government has provided employment or at the least commercial restoration.
“More than thirty vendors arrested and heavily assaulted. We have resolved to reconstruct structures tomorrow and continue selling,” said Mkwananzi.
Government two weeks ago created vendor facility properties outside the city. But these areas are out of reach for most customers and there is no business life there.
The vendors who constitute over six(6)million people outnumber Zimbabwe’s entire electorate.
“We are going nowhere we have been there and I tell you, you cannot even make 5 dollars a day,” one David Mako told ZimEye.com
VID Turns to Bribes as Chinamasa Rakes All Cash
The Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) has explained why its officers turn to bribes saying it is because Finance Minister Patrick Chinamasa’s office rakes all the money away.
VID is generating $2 million a month but all its income is being taken by the Treasury, leaving the parastatal without funds for its operations or to fight corruption, Parliament heard on Monday.
Presenting oral evidence before a parliamentary portfolio on transport and infrastructure development on Monday, VID chief vehicle inspector, Johannes Pedzapasi said the company was generating $2 million per month from its activities such as conducting learner licence tests, road tests, inspections of vehicles, inspection of maintenance facilities (garages) and weighing of vehicles but was not allowed to retain it.
“The challenge with that is that all that money goes to the fiscus and we don’t get it back to support operations,” said Pedzapasi.
“The impact of the inability to access that revenue is that operational efficiency is compromised.”
He said due to financial constraints, the parastatal was unable to replace ageing equipment used to inspect vehicles, improve infrastructure which is now over 40 years old and expand its centres countrywide.
“Recapitalisation is also affected because the kind of equipment we require for modern vehicles is modern but we still have old equipment,” he said.
The other challenge, Pedzapasi said was that of a manual system which did not link data of vehicles that would have failed tests.
He said learners had to wait for six months to be issued with their metal licences due to backlog as there was only one machine to print them nationally.
Pedzapasi said corruption was also rampant at VID and lack of resources was preventing the department from further tightening the loopholes to curb it.
“We feel that if our systems were automated, we would reduce the interface between a person and the system and be able to weed out some of the corrupt tendencies,” he said.
In the meantime, Pedzapasi said he had introduced various initiatives to curb corruption at VID including an evidence-based manual system to monitor the trends of every depot or inspectors, particularly pass rates and the relationships with driving schools and instructors as well as vehicles inspected.
He said 80 percent of the learner’s practical tests were conducted at the VID complexes in public, with a failure rate of 75 percent.
Of the 25 percent who did town driving, only two percent failed he said.
“In town driving, ordinarily where someone would have exhibited skills in performing the four tasks (drums, parallel parking, hill start and three point turn) the chances of that person failing are slim,” he said.
Members of the Parliament complained about rampant corruption at VID alleging that some learners were forced to part with $200 by driving schools in connivance with some inspectors while others were being issued with licences while at home.
Pedzapasi said he was doing all he can to fight corruption adding that since he took over as chief in 2008, at least 20 officers had been fired mainly, from the Chiredzi depot which had since been closed. Also, 199 driver’s licences were cancelled.
“Last month one officer from Eastlea was fired after pretending to have inspected a vehicle and passing it,” he said, adding that another from Belvedere was also relieved of his duties for a similar offence.
He said they had recruited 169 trainees to help increase inspection of private vehicles.
He said of the 800,000 vehicles registered in the country, only 50 percent were being inspected annually due to shortage of human resources.
Asked whether there was a policy not to inspect government, army and police vehicles some of which were not roadworthy, Pedzapasi said there was no such law.
“We have challenges with government vehicles, we inspect and give them written notices prohibiting them from using the roads until they pass the test but they don’t come back. The same applies to the army vehicles,” he said.
Appearing before the same committee, an official the transport ministry’s Road Motor Transport department, Joyce Matema said 80 percent of the public vehicles were operating without registration.
Cases were also being reported to police and occasionally vehicles were impounded while there was also rampant proliferation of fake certificates authorizing commuter omnibuses to travel distances of 150km, beyond what is stipulated for small passenger vehicles.
Mwonzora Struck Off anytime
MDC-T secretary-general Douglas is facing de-registration any time in the next 5 months after he was reportedly convicted by the LSZ of professional misconduct after he allegedly used a forged or irregular notice of appeal in a bid to stop eviction of a client from a disputed property.
Mwonzora and two other lawyers face de-registration by the Law Society of Zimbabwe for various acts of misconduct. Mwonzora is a senior partner at Mwonzora and Associates law firm.
The firm has been mired in a fraud case that resulted in Mwonzora being hauled to court facing criminal charges. The cases are still pending.
Mwonzora and two other lawyers — Ollyn Kanyenze and Tererai Gunje — on Friday had their cases in which the Law Society of Zimbabwe is seeking to de-register them deferred to September this year.
Mwonzora’s case was not on the roll although he had been notified of the hearing.
Justice Chinembiri Bhunu chairs the Disciplinary Tribunal, which hears such cases at the High Court.
Other members of the tribunal are Justice Felistas Chatukuta and lawyers Mrs Sarah Moyo and Mr Davison Kanokanga.
The LSZ applied to deregister Mwonzora after it convicted him on charges of misconduct.
Mwonzora has approached the High Court to quash the LSZ decision citing procedural flaws.
In his review application, Mwozora argued the LSZ showed bias against him when it applied to de-register him as a lawyer, notary public and conveyancer on a matter pending before the Supreme Court.
“It obviously anticipated my acquittal on the criminal charges and wants to prejudice me,” stated Mwonzora in his papers.
“The disciplinary proceedings against me are tainted by gross administrative irregularities, which include, among others, bias, gross unreasonableness, lack of respect and observance of principles and rules of natural justices.”
Mwonzora was convicted by the LSZ of professional misconduct after he allegedly used a forged or irregular notice of appeal in a bid to stop eviction of a client from a disputed property.
The LSZ is now seeking to have his name struck off the register of practising lawyers.
Advocate Lewis Uriri is acting for the LSZ in the matter.
TB Joshua Must Apologise to Victims, Pastor Claims
Durban pastor Vusi Dube has demanded that evangelist TB Joshua apologise to the survivors and families of the victims who died when a building belonging to his church, the Synagogue Church of All Nations collapsed in Lagos, Nigeria, in September last year.
Dube’s comment follows a ruling by coroner Oyetade Komolafe, who said earlier this week that the church should be investigated and prosecuted for not obtaining approval before embarking on the construction of the building, the collapse of which led to the death of 116 people; 81 from South Africa.
“The church was culpable because of criminal negligence, resulting in the death of the victims,” Komolafe said.
On Thursday the outspoken MPL and pastor of the eThekwini Community Church called on Joshua to come clean “as a man of God” and ask for forgiveness from the families and survivors.
“I feel I have been vindicated in my view that the building’s collapse had nothing to do with either an attack by Boko Haram or evil spirits,” he said.
“The investigation has just proved that it was a lie fed to th0e people. The finding will bring closure to the families.”
However, Sambulo Myeni, whose trainee pastor brother Sabelo, of Nseleni, was one of five people from KwaZulu-Natal who died, as well as survivor Patrick Gera, lambasted the coroner’s findings. Labelling his conclusion “hogwash”, Myeni said the comments were part of an orchestrated effort to tarnish Joshua’s image.
“It is total rubbish. They are turning a blind eye to the real issue. The families were invited to the scene after the calamity. The building did not collapse because of poor structure. It was sabotaged. It was bombed. They are not telling us the truth.”
Supporting his theory, Myeni said the plane seen hovering above the building in a video released by Joshua after the incident (which has been widely discredited by experts) had “released laser beams” which brought it down.
“After watching the CCTV footage of the incident, it was evident the plane was responsible for the collapse,” he claimed. “It was a controlled demolition, rather than structural failure, that led to the tragedy.”
Myeni called for an independent investigation.
Gera, from Gauteng, who claims to be a qualified civil engineer, said he was “110 percent certain” the collapse was not caused by structural weakness.
“The explosions which emanated from the collapse made it clear that it was controlled. The findings were meant to denounce the church and TB Joshua.”
Responding to Myeni’s comments, government spokeswoman Phumla Williams said she did “not want to judge them because this is a sensitive and emotional matter”. She said she hoped families would reach closure once the findings were made public.
“We choose not to comment. None of the families has thanked us for the role we played in repatriating the bodies of their loved ones. Only one in Soweto has been grateful to us. During the funeral they mentioned that without government help they would not have known where to begin to make arrangements to repatriate the body of their dead relative,” she said.
Durban North couple Dickie and Dennis Thuthukani Ngcobo, Nomusa Nyawo, mother of three from Ngwavuma, and Nokuphila Maphumulo of KwaMakhutha also died in the collapse.

Breakthrough Jobs as Zimbabwe Starts Making Buses, Cars
Breakthrough job openings have emerged in Mutare as Quest Motors began assembling cars and buses.
Quest Motors says it has commenced assembling of Chinese designed buses at its Mutare factory and plans to increase the number of Foton Tunland double cab units which will boost its capacity utilisation to over 50 percent, an official has said.
Quest director Tarik Adam told The Source during a tour of the assembling plant at the start of a five day vehicle exhibition that commenced on Monday that shipment of parts for 10 units of Q-Buses and 24 units of the Foton Tunland have already arrived.
“We have now started the assembling of what we are calling the Quest Bus (Q-Bus). The first bus will take six weeks to assemble.
“It is similar to Zhi-Tong, U-Tong and Higer buses. But the only difference is that the Q-Bus is custom built to withstand the Zimbabwean terrain, it’s all metal and no fibre unlike the other imported buses,” said Adam.
Quest already assembles and holds franchises for various Chinese models, including Chery Tiggo, JMC and Foton. It also holds the franchise for BMW and some Mitsubishi vehicles.
It recently started assembling the Chinese-built, Cummins-powered Tunland double cabs and will later this year start to make single cabs at the plant. It also expects to add other Cherry and Foton models.
Of the Foton Tunland he said: “We want to push our shipment volumes to about 30 to 50 units per month as of next week.”
Quest operations manager Carl Fernandez said the company had capacity to produce 500 buses and 10,000 vehicles per annum.
The assembly of the new models has increased its capacity to over 50 percent, from five percent in 2013 while its workforce has risen to 170 from less than 100 in the same year.
In March, Adam said the company will also start assembling the Foton Daimler 3,5 ton up to 30 ton and tippers during the course of the year in addition to the 8-ton dropside body and 3,5 ton trucks currently being assembled.
Man Rapes Daughters, Infects them With HIV
UK – A man raped his two step-daughters and infected them with HIV.
The man admitted raping his two stepdaughters, who both contracted HIV from him.
The two girls are believed to have been aged 11 and 14 when they were infected with the potentially deadly virus, while they were sexual abused by their stepfather.
On the second day of his trial at the Canterbury Crown Court this week, the man pleaded guilty to a range of crimes, including rape of a child under 13.
The judge told him to expect an indeterminate sentence.
The 60-year-old originally denied the charges, but changed his plea after developing Aids.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) chose not to prosecute him for deliberately infecting the girls with HIV, as it falls under the crime of grievous bodily harm (GBH) which carries a shorter sentence.
One of the girls, now aged 22, told the Sunday Mirror she had found out about her condition when she was expecting her boyfriend’s baby.
A routine antenatal blood test revealed that the woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was infected by the virus.
“When the midwife said I was HIV positive my world fell apart,” she said. “The abuse had stayed a secret for so long.
“In that moment, everything came back to punch me in the stomach. I felt disgusting, dirty and inhuman.”
Fortunately, the diagnosis came early enough that anti-retroviral drugs prevented her baby from contracting HIV in the womb.
Tests later confirmed that the woman’s sister had also been infected with HIV.
Raped in her bedroom
The woman told the Sunday Mirror that the abuse started after the man moved into her mother’s home.
He began spoiling her with gifts and treating her with clothes and giving her cash. One day, when she was 12, he kissed her while her mother was making dinner.
“I was shocked and told him to stop but it only spurred him on,” she said. “That was the start. I’d been in the bath one night a few weeks later, and he knew I’d be getting ready for bed so he came into my room.
“I tried to tell him to leave, but he forced me down onto the bed and ripped my towel away before raping me. I had no choice. I was terrified.”
The woman became pregnant at 13 as a result of the abuse. She was forced into having a secret abortion, but her mother refused to believe that she had been raped by her stepfather and stuck by her husband’s side.
The woman, now 22, said she is taking each day as it comes and is grateful that her son can live a happy and healthy life.-IBHTimes/SundayMirror
Netone Dodges Government Order – Minister
Minister of Information communication, Technology, post and courier services Supa Mandiwanzira days that mobile phone service provider Netone is resisting the government directive to comply with the infrastructure sharing provisions proclaimed by government.
Speaking in a ZBC SFM radio programme morning grill, Mandiwanzira said that government has given the three mobile service providers Econet, Netone and Telecel a ninety day ultimatum to comply with the directive or face unspecified government action. The directive orders the service providers to start sharing cellphone network distribution base stations installed around the country instead of each provider installing their own.
Netone which enjoys an element of government backing has installed the most number of base stations in remote areas and enjoys the near monopoly of covering the rural areas market. If the move by government is implemented it will see other service providers installing their network transmitters on the structures build by the other providers at a minimal fee.
According to Mandiwanzira the service providers are expected to appreciate that their competition is not on infrastructure but on quality of service provided. The Minister said government would not allow selfishness to prevail amongst the service providers compromising quality of service given to the citizens.
“The essence of infrastructure sharing is like the road network which we share. We can not for example say that everyone must open their own road to Mutare but have one authority build the road and other users paying toll fees to the provider of the road.”
Minister Mandiwanzira took swipe at the service providers who change very high prices for their service in a bid to recover the cost of the infrastructure which if they share will be recouped from the other providers through rentals.
Responding to a question on the future of Telecel following government’s directive for the company to be delicenced after failing to meet licence requirements, Mandiwanzira said that the company’s shareholders have offered to sale all their shares to government and negotiations to that effect are nearing closure.

Tsvangirai Blocked from Benefits By Mugabe
Zimbabwe’s former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai has failed to get his State Benefits for over two years a situation that is blamed on President Robert Mugabe.
Newsday|Tsvangirai has not received his terminal benefits two years after leaving government amid claims he was being fixed by President Robert Mugabe because of their political differences.
Tsvangirai’s spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka yesterday said the MDC-T leader had not received any benefits from government despite the fact that he was entitled to them.
“It is true that he has received nothing and there has not been any communication either way,” Tamborinyoka said.
“They owe him, but you must know why he is not making a fuss about it. It is because for his participation in the GNU (government of national unity) was never about his personal material needs.
“It was about service and sacrifice and this is why for three of the four years he was Prime Minister, Tsvangirai was staying in his own house.”Tsvangirai stayed at his Strathaven house in Harare before switching to a government-owned mansion in Highlands.
The move caused controversy after some in government tried to push for his eviction following his defeat in the 2013 elections.
Tamborinyoka insinuated that the former Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions leader was being punished for refusing to recognise Mugabe’s election following the controversial 2013 polls.
However, he said the government had no right to withhold the benefits. “But these are his entitlements and he earned them. However, he is not going to beg anyone,” Tamborinyoka said.
“If the condition is that he must first say the 2013 election was legitimate for them to give him his dues, then tough luck. That is not going to happen. He is not going to endorse that fraud.”
A senior MDC-T official told NewsDay that Tsvangirai, who served as PM between 2009 and 2013, was legally entitled to terminal benefits.
“He has not received anything from the government, not his pension, not even a car,” the official said. “Most of his compatriots who served as ministers were allowed to take the vehicles they were using.
“Mugabe is punishing Tsvangirai for refusing to recognise his 2013 electoral theft. Most, if not all, of his juniors walked away with off-road vehicles as well as other cars, but he only got the battered Mercedes-Benz (vehicle) that is now beyond repair.
“This is despite the fact that according to the agreement used to form the coalition government, Tsvangirai and Mugabe shared executive powers.”
Tsvangirai’s house in the leafy suburb of Highlands was reportedly valued at $4 million after renovations and upgrades that cost around $800 000. Efforts to get a comment from Mugabe’s spokesperson George Charamba over the matter were fruitless as his mobile phone was not reachable.
Tsvangirai has lost three times to Mugabe, but the opposition leader claimed massive vote-rigging during the polls.
Pastor Hires Thugs To Kill Churchmen
A suspected bed-hopping pastor and founder of Gospel of the Kingdom Ministries reportedly hired thugs to eliminate two of his congregates for exposing him as a sexual pervert.
Thomas Makoni (28) of 2588 Mainway Meadows, Waterfalls, Harare, was not asked to plead to two counts of incitement to commit murder charges.
Makoni appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Renika Dzikiti who remanded him out of custody to July 27. The prosecutor, Mrs Ntombikayise Nleya said allegations against Makoni arose on June 5 this year when he hired his childhood friend Talent Nyakunengwa to kill two of his congregates accusing them of being the cause of his problems.
It is alleged that this was after Kudakwashe Elliot (27) and Afra Nhanhanga (40), both of Chitungwiza, had exposed his shenanigans with several women at his church.
Makoni allegedly went to Nyakunengwa’s house during the night where he narrated his story and plan.
The court heard that Makoni tasked Nyakunengwa with the elimination of Elliot by beating him to death. He offered $30 and a Samsung Vinovo cellphone as a reward.
But Nyakunengwa revealed the plot to Elliot. Nyakunengwa then went to Makoni’s church in bandages and told him that he had done the job during which he sustained his injuries.
Makoni paid Nyakunengwa as promised.
Two days later, Makoni approached Nyakunengwa and allegedly ordered him to kill Nhanhanga and all occupants in his house using a petrol bomb. Nyakunengwa alerted Nhanhanga.
Nhanhanga and Elliot later reported the matter to police.

Bev Sibanda Flying to UK | BREAKING NEWS
Bev Flies to UK this month
Controversial raunchy dancer Beverly “Bev” Sibanda is flying to the United Kingdom for her first of firsts with theee musicians(see poster).
Bev is on her way for her United Kingdom shows slated for Leeds and Dunstable this month, ZimEye.com can reveal.
She received her UK work permit early last week and will be sneaking into the UK in a few days time.
The dancer who has returned to the stage after a ‘repentance’ stint with Prophet Magaya’s Prophetic Healing and Deliverance ministries, is on demand as promoters worldwide jostle to sign her for shows.
Her manager Hapaz Mapimhidze confirmed the latest development.
Show promotion team member Tau Cheteni told ZimEye.com, “this will be an opportunity for Zimbabweans in the United Kingdom to get their first encounter with Bev. We are looking forward to the shows at the West Indian Centre in Leeds and in Dunstable,” he said.
One of the Directors Sonny Chibuwe, said “While we can understand peoples misgivings about Bev it is important to note that Bev is a professional artist just like Beyonce, who similarly dances in knickers but people rarely critisise her. From a business perspective there are people who are willing to pay and watch Bev in action.
And to us as long as Bev does what she does within the confinements of adult entertainment venues where people choose to pay to see her act, then there is nothing wrong with that. She is just doing her job like you and me. Bev can not be ignored in as far as Zim entertainment industry is concerned. It is also important to share with you that Bev’s dance routines are regulated by the Dancing Associated of Zimbabwe.
The problem is us adults who take her acts meant for private functions or adult events and place them in the mainstream media where other people with strong Christian and Moral values are likely to criticise her and attack her acts. But even then there is no artist who is willing to gain support from all people. Bev knows too well the criticism that comes with her job but as a mother and someone at work she knows how to keep her head up and do her job in a professional way.
As we speak the majority of clubs in Zimbabwe now have a pole or two. This is due to the Bevmania that has gripped the country. Let us embrace her rather yhan attack her. After all at the end of the day what she does is all play acting or role playing and should not be construed to be a reflection of who she is as a person. Its more like saying a movie character who kills people does the same thing in a real life. People should come and witness other artist on the lineup such as Seh Calaz, Ricky Fire Terminator and Ptk who have all promised to give a well polished performances. We urge people to come in numbers and witness one of the best organised event of the year”

MDC is Pained Hove Died a Painful Death In Far Lands
Condolence on Chenjerai Hove’s passing
The MDC has learnt with sadness the passing of renowned author Chenjerai Hove who succumbed to liver failure while in exile in Norway yesterday.
The country and literary community has lost a talented, fearless and principled writer who contributed immensely towards the education sector and the struggle for a free and fair Zimbabwe through his writings. His literary works, particularly where he fearlessly exposed the evil and violent works of the Zanu PF regime personified the saying, ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’. His outspokenness and courage in taking on the Zanu PF government over its woeful policies of deceit, favouritism, corruption and gluttonous selfishness will forever be saluted.
The MDC is pained that Hove had to die a painful death in far -away lands, away from his family and loved ones because of the evil Zanu PF government.
We offer our deepest condolences to the Hove family and hope they find comfort in the Lord at this difficult time. May his dear soul rest in peace.

UK, from culture capital of the world to capital of peace
To realise the true teaching of religion, cease conflicts caused by religions and build a peaceful world, the UK branch of Heavenly Culture World Peace Restoration of Light (HWPL, Chairman Man Hee Lee) held the third religious scripture dialogue under the theme of ‘Angels & Demons’ on July 8th, 2015.
Starting from March 26th, this year, it is the third dialogue that the UK branch of HWPL has hosted. This time, it was held in the historical setting of Conway Hall, London which is possibly the oldest surviving free thought organisation in the world.
Religious Leaders who participated included Muslim leader and Officer of the Order of the British Empire, Seyed Yousif Al-Khoei OBE, Buddhist monk Phramaha Bhatsakorn Piyobhaso, Dr. Tanaji Acharya representing Hinduism, a Sikh educationalist Mr. Jagmeet Singh, and Christian scholar Mr. Justin Brand. As participants of the first and second Scripture Dialogues, Seyed Yousif Al-Khoei OBE and Phramaha Bhatsakorn Piyobhaso took an active part in the dialogue, showing the significance of the dialogue.
Each representative proclaimed the necessity of peace which needs to be fulfilled in the shaking world, including the UK, due to religious extremism. They also testified that every scripture is exclaiming about making peace, and they demonstrated that the correct understanding of scriptures is the key solution to many terrors related to religions.
One member of the audience, Adam Harvey, a student from Imperial College London, commented “All the war and conflict between religions that has arisen in the past and is still going on today, I know that it was because those people didn’t understand the true meaning of religion. It is amazing to see different religions together in harmony. I believe through these HWPL dialogues all religions can be united and an end to war can actually be achieved.”
Religious leaders presented on the topic of good, and evil in order to tackle the root cause of why there is evil in today’s world and spiritually what the source of evil is. The highly debated subject of whether God created evil provided a new perspective regarding good and evil spirits. Moreover some of the discussion examined what makes a person good or evil, and subsequently the reason why some people are led to peace whereas some are led to cause disruption and war.
Through the dialogue, the audience realised that many conflicts are occurring due to misunderstanding of religious scriptures. The religious leaders were reminded of the duty they have to correctly educate their communities, and they promised to work together to cease religious conflicts and become one under the mandate of peace.
The participants watched a presentation about a number of the peace works that the HWPL peace movement has achieved, led by the Chairman of HWPL, Mr. Lee and the Chairwoman of International Women’s Peace Group (IWPG), Ms. Nam Hee Kim. Through the presentation, the religious leaders and audience members were reminded of the peace agreement that was signed in Mindanao, they also witnessed the designation of ‘Peace Day’ and the erection of peace monuments in various countries over the world.
At present, these scripture dialogues are held at 62 offices in 40 countries including Finland, Japan, the US, Australia, Israel, and Germany. According to the regional manager of the UK Branch, the scripture dialogue will be held regularly in London, the culture capital of the world, for the unity and harmony of religions.
Pay $5,000 Cash for Secret Mnangagwa Meeting
At least $5000,00 have been paid by individuals each so they can be accepted into secret meetings with Vice President Emmerson Mnangagwa.
Newsday|Emmerson Mnangagwa is in the eye of a storm after some of his close allies allegedly demanded bribes from under siege commercial farmers trying to seek audience with the top Zanu PF official.
It is understood that some of the VP’s associates devised a way of profitably making use of their links to him to charge people seeking audience with him. Mnangagwa last night said the culptits would face the full wrath of the law.
“I don’t do that . . ., tell the police to arrest them, they are thieves who are abusing my good name. Please tell the police to get them arrested. It’s bad. I will not tolerate such things,” he said.
One of the victims, Commercial Farmers’ Union (CFU) chief executive officer Hendrick Olivier told NewsDay last week the officials openly demanded bribes ranging from $500 upwards when farmers sought meetings with Mnangagwa.
Olivier said he was a victim of the scam himself amid fears more farmers could have been coerced to part with large sums of money to meet President Robert Mugabe’s second in-command.
“I must say from the outset that I cannot blame the Vice-President for what happened or claim that he is part of it but two officials who work in his office openly demanded for a ‘brown envelope’ with a minimum $500 to which I responded that I did not have,” he said. “I also told them that it is not the way I operate.”
The CFU boss said he wanted to meet Mnangagwa to discuss continued disruption of farming activities at white-owned commercial farms around the country by suspected Zanu PF supporters.
Olivier said he had officially requested to meet Mnangagwa before he received a call on July 2 that the VP was ready to meet him at 08:15 that same day.
“I had and still have a standing official request to meet the Vice-President. I still await my chance to meet him,” he said.
Olivier said when he got to Mnangagwa’s office, two men (names supplied) demanded $5 000 before he could meet the VP. He said Mnangagwa’s secretary appeared to know the men.
“It became clear as time moved that she was aware and knew the two men. I was asked to stay downstairs, but after two hours I gave up,” he said. On Friday, one of Mnangagwa’s aides confirmed that there was a “white man” who visited the VP’s offices recently.
“He came here last week in the company of two guys known as Tonde and Maburutse, who are members of the Zimbabwe Congress of Students Union (Zicosu),” the aide who declined to be named said.
“But he did not have an appointment with the Vice-President. The Vice-President has two offices here at the Ministry of Justice and at Munhumutapa Building so I am not sure which of his secretaries Olivier is talking about, we move around a lot, but I know him as an official of the Commercial Farmers Union.”
Efforts to track Tonde and Maburutse were fruitless. Sources said a group of Zanu PF activists a few weeks ago invaded some farms whose owners approached officials in Mnangagwa’s office for assistance.
The farmers were reportedly asked to part with $5 000, but ended up paying $2 000 to get the Zanu PF functionaries removed.
Impeccable sources said the official claimed to have phoned Mnangagwa, as well as “very senior military and police officials” in the presence of the affected farmers.
“An order was then issued and within hours the invaders had been pushed out of the farms,” the source added. Information, Media and Broadcasting Services ministry principal director Regis Chikowore described the allegations as “very serious”.
“These are serious allegations that you as a paper need to verify the veracity of. You cannot take what he (Olivier) says as fact on the face of it because as of now I am not even sure it happened,” Chikowore said.
“However, if he was serious and sure that it happened as you are saying, he should have made a police report.”
Mnangagwa, who is one of Mugabe’s longest serving lieutenants having been drafted into the country’s first Cabinet at independence 35 years ago, was appointed VP following a Zanu PF congress last December.
He took over from the country’s first female Vice-President Joice Mujuru who was sacked from her positions both in the ruling Zanu PF party and government following a plethora of allegations among them extortion, corruption, bribery and plotting to assassinate Mugabe.
However, Mujuru has denied all the charges levelled against her and challenged her detractors to take the matter to court.
Mnangagwa is now seen in the ruling party circles as front-runner to take over from 91-year-old Mugabe whose over half a century political career is in its sunset period.
Mugabe recently warned Zanu PF youths against using names of senior party leaders for financial gain. Suspended Zanu PF Harare provincial youth league chairman Godwin Gomwe is facing trial for allegedly extorting over $46 000 using First Lady Grace Mugabe’s name in the capital.
Top Magistrate With No O’Levels Still On Job Since Gukurahundi 1982
A top magistrate Mr Joe Kabiti has continued his job for a whole 33 years since the start of the infamous Gukurahundi massacres in 1982.
The Zvishavane magistrate Mr Joe Kabiti, who was early this year forced to retire after working for 33 years without basic five Ordinary Levels, has taken the Judicial Service Commission to the Constitutional Court contesting the decision.
Mr Kabiti was forced to retire on February 19 this year by the JSC after it emerged that he was not a qualified magistrate.
He argued that he was employed as a presiding officer on the basis of a Community Court certificate he obtained from Domboshawa Training Centre in 1981 and his status as a war veteran.
Mr Kabiti was given a chance to upgrade himself and acquire five O- Levels when the presiding officer’s post was phased out in 2006, but he refused insisting that he should simply be elevated to be a magistrate by virtue of him being an ex-combatant.
Part of his response reads:
“Pursuant to that, I was appointed to the office by virtue of some qualifications, that is being an ex-combatant . . . “The war was fought and it is over. I am an ex-combatant. I was retained for the post by virtue of such qualifications.
“With all due respect, I seem to wonder as to what you mean by upgrading myself. Are you saying the war should be started over again and I improve on my war veteran status: obviously no,” he said.
The JSC retired him with full package and benefits but he is contesting the retirement arguing that he has not reached the retirement age.
The Labour Court threw out the review application on the basis that Mr Kabiti had not exhausted the available remedies before approaching the court.
It was the Labour Court’s finding that Mr Kabiti had not been fired but he was retired.
Justice Custom Kachambwa said the local forum of approaching a labour officer must first be exhausted before approaching the Labour Court.
The decision did not go down with Mr Kabiti who then filed a review application at the Constitutional Court.
In his constitutional application filed at the Constitutional Court this month, Mr Kabiti argued that the JSC did not follow the proper procedure in retiring him.
“The first respondent (JSC) enforced its decision to retire me without taking heed of the basic tenets of justice, in particular, the audi alterum rule.
“I was not given an opportunity to be heard fairly and my side of the story was never heard, before effecting an aggravating decision on me,” he said.
Mr Kabiti argued that the JSC did not follow the procedural requirements laid down under Section 17(5) of the Judicial Service Regulations in summarily retiring him.

Grace Axes ZANU PF Mash West Chair Ziyambi
First Lady Grace Mugabe is believed to have personally booted Mashonaland West Chairman Ziyambi Ziyambi.
ZANU PF provincial executive members in Mashonaland West Province yesterday passed a vote-of-no-confidence on acting provincial chairman Ziyambi Ziyambi accusing him of being dishonest and failing to prepare the groundwork for election of a substantive committee.
Ziyambi was booted out after 27 out of 50 provincial executive members who included MPs, central committee and politburo members voted against him. The decision was sealed during a meeting held at the party’s provincial offices in Chinhoyi.
Party sources said Ziyambi was being removed in favour of flamboyant businessman and central committee member, Phillip Chiyangwa who refused to comment on the issue yesterday.
The provincial Women’s League also resolved to recall MP Joani Tsogorani from Parliament accusing her of manipulating her election under the women’s quota system.
Tsogorani also serves as provincial vice-chairperson.
Ziyambi is accused of being dishonest by misrepresenting facts to First Lady and Zanu PF Women League boss Grace Mugabe about the state of affairs in the province.
He reportedly received a serious tongue-lashing from Grace over allegations that he attempted to block her from presiding over the launch of a housing scheme in Kadoma two weeks ago.
Ziyambi is also said to have refused to endorse Angela Muchemeyi as the Mashonaland West Women’s League chairperson, a move that reportedly angered the First Lady.
But Ziyambi, who spearheaded the expulsion of former provincial chairperson Temba Mliswa, has accused party members of campaigning for his ouster.
“They have always wanted to lead the province at whatever cost and those are the people going behind my back,” he said. – Newsday/Additional Reporting
Sex HideOut “Brothel” Owned By MP Shut Down
Residents of Matabeleland South capital Gwanda have applauded the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority for closing down a hotel cum brothel operated as a partnership by the Member of Parliament for Gwanda North constituency Ndodana Sibanda and his siblings as a family business.
The hide-out operating as Pumula Hotel was closed down by the tourism authority last week following complaints from the residents of the town after the hotel with two branches in the town had become home to scores of prostitutes. According to residents the prostitutes were operating their immoral business in broad day light posing semi naked in the area around the two hotel sites at the busy Jawunda high density business centre.
“This is a very welcome move by the responsible authorities as the situation at the hotels was getting out of hand,” said a resident Dorcas Ndlovu. “These women had resorted to pry on men in broad day light without regard to age or social status right in front of the society’s eyes.”
Another similar lodge, Tusanang Lodge also operated by Gwanda South based ZANU PF provincial executive member Martin Mawuva was also shut down by the authority for not meeting the standards expected by the ZTA. The lodge also housed several prostitutes who targeted mostly long distance truck drivers who park their trucks overnight along the Johannesburg highway near by.
Gwanda is expected to host a very high profile music concert at the end of August which will feature at least five music artist from neighbouring South Africa and tourism authorities are under going a clean up programme to make sure that all tourism standards are met by service providers. Residents have also in the meantime asked authorities to check the standards of two night clubs Iocated in the town’s CBD which are said to be operating from dilapidated buildings and running for nearly 24 hours becoming a home for prostitution and other crimes.
A section of the residents complained that the closure of the brothels had very little impact on eradicating the immoral women as they were quickly absorbed into the community by land lords who took them into their homes and gave them lodging. Some media reports claim that some of the evicted ladies were seen carrying their belongings and finding their way to Beitbridge and Bulawayo to continue their trade.
According to national statistics, Gwanda town ranks very high in terms of HIV/AIDS infections and the business of sex workers in town is reportedly booming due to the availability of the small scale informal gold miners in the area.
Grace’s Boy Wants To Kill Every Corrupt Person In Zimbabwe
First Lady Grace Mugabe’s blue-eyed-boy wants every corrupt person in Zimbabwe executed by a firing squad.
Mrs Mugabe’s preferred Vice President Simon Khaya-Moyo told ZimEye.com Zimbabwe must be merciless to corrupt individuals. The country must adopt the Chinese model of killing corrupt persons, ZANU PF’s spokesperson said. – Click here to read full story VIDEO:
Highlanders Fans Agitated
Sixteen games into the 2015 Castle Premier League, Highlanders Football Club once the giant of Zimbabwean soccer lie an unusual ninth position on the log much to the agitation of its multitude of fans.
In a snap ZimEye.com survey in the streets of Bulawayo after news that the Bulawayo giants had just played it’s sixth draw playing away to Triangle, Bosso supporters expressed responses full of shock and confusion with their club’s performance this season. The fans’ responses suggested that the majority of Highlanders fans are really not sure where the problem in their team is.
The fans’ responses seem to be blaming all and sundry about the club from the technical team to team admnistration to management and to the players with some shockingly even putting the blame on the supporters themselves. A couple however, would not agree with the general perception that the team was playing badly insisting the team will make a turnaround “soon”.
A majority of the fans interviewed threw the blame on the club’s rather unusual performance on coach Bongani Mafu. Mafu who took over the coaching duties at the beginning of the current season hasn’t been the fans’ favourite since he took over the reign following the departure of Kelvin Kaindu .
Bongani Mafu a former coach of now defunct Zimbabwe Saints Football Club is one of the country’s most qualified coaches with EUFA coaching qualifications and several CAF and local certificates making him on paper the rightful candidate to be on the thrown of a club of Highlanders’ statute. However, the Highlanders fans interviewed were quick to throw away the highly acclaimed coach’s qualifications insisting he is not the man to take charge of Highlanders.
One fan Dumisani Nkiwane from Iminyela Suburb of Bulawayo spared no soft words for the beleaguered coach. ” Mafu must just go he is unqualified to coach Highlanders. Even if he has all those certificates he must just take them and hang them in his bedroom and watch them with his wife than let us watch him kill Highlanders, ” he said.
Several other fans also echoed Nkiwane’s sentiments claiming that even if Mafu was that qualified he lacked the exposure and experience to coach a club like Highlanders. Clive Ngwenya from Sunninghill said Mafu could do well as an assistant coach or understudy to a more seasoned coach before he can take over at the club.
“Mafu is a very good coach but still needs to mature a little bit before he can take over at Highlanders. Perhaps the best is to redeploy him as an assistant to another experienced coach or be assigned to the juniors before he can be the head coach,” said Ngwenya.
Another sector of supporters absolved Mafu of the blame putting the blame on club management led by Chief Executive Officer Ndumiso Gumede and club executive led by Chairman Peter Dube. The fans claim without substantiating that the club officials are interfering with the technical team there by disturbing the team’s play on the pitch.
According to the fans the executive and management of the team choose the players to be acquired for the team without consulting the coach. Some even claim that the officials, particularly Gumede, actually play a hand in the selection of the team evidenced by the change in the time line up with every match.
The club board of directors led by business man Mgcini Nkolomi was also thrown into the chaos at Highlanders. The fans claim that the board of directors is also interfering with both the operations of the executive and the technical team. Sikhumbuzo Dube of Mzilikazi suburb said the board of directors had politicised the team by “selling it to ZANU PF” which is what turned the fortunes of the team.
“Mgcini Nkolomi is the number one to blame for Bosso’s problems he sold the team to Munangwa that’s why the team is losing because it’s being associated with losers,” said Dube.
Vice President Munangagwa was recently invited to officiate the hand over of a new bus acquired by the club through a donation by newly elected ZANU PF MP for Makokoba Tshinga Dube. The move was described by many as a campaign gimmick for Tshinga Dube at the June 10 by elections.
A friend of Dube who refused to be named added that Nkolomi facilitated Mafu’s engagement at Highlanders because Mafu is a regular client at the Board Chairman’s night club in the CBD of Bulawayo. “Nkolomi will never have Mafu fired as he brought him to Highlanders because he was top customer at Nkolomi’s bar.”
Another section of the fans blamed the players saying the players are not fully committed to the club and not giving their all to bring results to the team. The fans claimed that non of the current Bosso players are fit to wear the Zebra Highlanders jersey.
A few positive supporters however remained hopeful that the club will soon come right and even rated it high enough to be able to go all the way and win the league at the end of the season. This group of fans think that coach Bongani Mafu must be given a chance to rebuild the team. This group of fans attributed the string of bad results by the team on a cross section of supporters which they claim disturb the team by continually throwing accusations at the coach and officials of the club without giving solutions to the team.
“We have some very loud and destructive elements within the supporters who even led to the departure of former coach Kelvin Kaindu because they just want to be heard,” said Mluleki Sibanda of Luveve. “These people do not have the team at heart but their own agendas that end up destroying the team and they are happy when the team is losing.”
At position nine at the turn of the season only a miracle can see the Bulawayo giants clinch the title which the club fans are are so desperate for.
Just what us happening at Highlanders this year? The fans at Highlanders will continue asking.
Land-Tax Cash Disappears
Cabinet has given the green light for the Lands and Rural Resettlement Ministry to take over the collection of land rentals and unit tax from all A1 and A2 farmers following reports that some rural district councils (RDCs) were abusing the money.
Until the recent announcement, the RDCs had been collecting the levies.
The new Cabinet directive would see the Ministry of Lands and Rural Resettlement handing over the land levies to Treasury to ensure accountability.
Lands and Rural Resettlement Minister, Dr Douglas Mombeshora yesterday confirmed the latest development, adding that land levies would only be collected from beneficiaries of State land, while those with title deeds to their land would be spared.
Government recently introduced land levies for land holders that saw A1 farmers paying $15 per year for the land they have. Under the scheme, $10 is land rental while $5 is unit tax that goes to RDCs.
The A2 farmers pay land rentals of $3 per hectare per annum and $2 unit tax per hectare, resulting in the farmers forking out $5 per hectare per year. Private companies using State land will now pay $10 land rental per hectare per year and $2 unit tax.
To date, Government has resettled 145 775 families on 5,979 million ha under A1 and 18 289 people on 2,978 million under the A2 model. This means Government can collect about $15 million from A2 farmers alone and $2 million from A1 annually.
Said Minister Mombeshora: “It is true that the Ministry (of Lands and Rural Resettlement) has taken over the collection of levies from RDCs. Cabinet approved that all land rentals and unit tax should be collected by the ministry after which it will be handed over to Treasury that will later distribute unit tax to RDCs,” he said.
Before the Cabinet directive, some RDCs were collecting the money and there were challenges with accountability.
However, the 26-member Hurungwe RDC in Mashonaland West Province frowned at the new arrangement.
They feel the new arrangement will compromise service delivery since their council now realises less revenue than under the old system.
After the reading of a Government circular advising of the new system during a full council meeting held at Magunje Growth Point last week, some councillors condemned the new system for contradicting Section 6:2 of the Finance Act of 2009, which stipulates levies RDCs collect from communal, A1 and “It had rather been better to continue using the old system with council remitting the Government’s portion since we already have the special resources for revenue collection – trained personnel, databases, vehicles for the exercise – and everything else,” suggested one councillor.
According to some councillors, the move was also likely to cause problems in the enforcement of council by-laws particularly in environmental management and conservation.
The councillors believe that the farmers will have less respect for an authority that does not levy them right on the ground, hence making it difficult for council to implement some of its by-laws.
The councillors also claim that under the old system their personnel would simultaneously attend to most of the environmental and conservation issues during their revenue collection visits, which would now be expensive to carry out under the new system.
Before the new set-up the Third Schedule of the RDCs Act (Chapter 29:13) as read with the Finance Act, Section 6:2 of 2009, empowered Hurungwe RDC – whose land falls under three regional classes (2, 2Aand 2B) – to levy communal farmers.
“Mujuru Caught Falsifying Hubby’s Cash” – State Media
Expelled vice president Joice Mujuru has been caught having falsified her late husband’s wealth, the State Media reports claiming.
Last month Mrs Mujuru said that her husband’s Estate is worth minus 2 million dollars as she faces a legal battle with close to 100 children sired by her late husband with different women. ZANU PF speculates that the estate is in the contrary worth over 10 billion dollars.
DETAILS of the late Retired General Solomon Mujuru’s vast empire have started emerging despite concerted efforts by his widow, former Vice President Joice Mujuru, to conceal the riches, The Herald can reveal.
Rtd Gen Mujuru died in August 2011 in an inferno, leaving behind an empire ranging from real estate, pharmaceutical, farming, to diamond mining – igniting a battle between Mrs Mujuru and some of the intended beneficiaries – mainly children.
Documents in The Herald’s possession show that Rtd Gen Mujuru ranked among the richest people in the country.
He had 100 percent shareholding in such companies as Kalmic Investments (Pvt) Ltd, Maidei Kumbirai (Pvt) Ltd, Rylance Farms, Tapfumaneyi Holdings, J and H Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd, Oriel Pharmacy (Pvt) Ltd and a 50 percent stake in Kupukile Resources (Pvt) Ltd.
Kupukile Resources (Pvt) Ltd was Rtd Gen Mujuru’s investment vehicle that had equity in River Ranch Diamond Mine in Beitbridge.
Rtd Gen Mujuru also had 100 percent shareholding in Thurlow and Company (Pvt) Ltd and Kumirinje Farms (Pvt) Ltd.
He had a million shares in hospitality firm Africa Sun, a stake in Ruwa Golf Resort Holdings, Merzig Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd, Zimbabwe Motor Assemblers and Distributors (Pvt) Ltd.
According to documents submitted to the executor of Rtd Gen Mujuru’s estate, Mr Stern Mufara, by the hero’s lawyer, Mr Thakor Kewada, the late general also had vast interests in real estate judging by the inventory of the houses he owned.
Mr Kewada cites the following properties as belonging to Rtd Gen Mujuru, Stand 95 Hogerty Hill Township 3 of Hogerty Hill A, measuring 1,4 hectares, Stand 96 Hogerty Hill Township 3 of Hogerty Hill A, measuring 555 square metres, and Stand 810 Marandellas Township.
He also had three other properties cited as Remainder of Sebastopol (in Goromonzi measuring 329ha) Inverangus of Sebastopol (also in Goromonzi 304ha) and Stand 9 Tara Township of Tara of Sebastopol (6,4ha in Goromonzi).
“All the above three properties were held by or transferred to J and H Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd and held under Deed of Transfer No. 4269/83, which title deed was collected by General Mujuru on 8th October 2004 as he sold one portion of the land to Damafolds Investments. The shares of J and H Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd were held by a number of individuals of the James Henry Verwey Family. They each signed declarations of trust and dividend waivers in favour of General Mujuru or his nominees being the Solomon Mujuru Family Trust. The original title deed and declarations of Trust and dividend waivers were retained by General Mujuru,” wrote Mr Kewada.
Gen Mujuru also owned Lot 1 of Lot 283 of Greendale, which property was subdivided to create Stand 1113 Greendale Township, House Number 18 Coghlan Road Greendale and Number 4 Springfield Close, Chisipite in Harare.
With regards to River Ranch Limited, Gen Mujuru’s Kupukile Resources had 5 000 shares as at August 17, 2007.
In Zimbabwe Motor Assemblers and Distributors (Pvt) Ltd he had 4 430 shares, while in Zimbabwe Sun Limited Gen Mujuru had a million shares under his company Tapfumaneyi Holdings (Pvt) Ltd c/o Interfin Merchant Bank.
He had shareholding in Ruwa Golf Properties (200), Ruwa Golf Resort (10).
At times Gen Mujuru would buy a property, but fail to transfer ownership to his name by not paying his lawyers such things as conveyancing fees.
Such properties included Stand 75 Shamva Township and Stand 5735 Warren Park.
Gen Mujuru also owned Remainder of Shamva Mine A, Shamva Mine B, Hexagon and Hexagon Extension.
In Bindura, Gen Mujuru owned Stands 22, 23 and 24 of Bindura Township.
Furthermore, Gen Mujuru owned Stand 214 Bindura Township, Stand 241 (Bindura Township), Stand 18 Bindura Township, Stand 449 Bindura Township and Lot 1 Ballantry.
In Chiwaridzo Drive in Bindura, Gen Mujuru owned stands 1399, 1400, 1401, 1402 and 1403.
In Shamva he had two undeveloped stands.
“In addition to the above, the General was the beneficial “owner” of the Beatrice Farm (where he died) together with all farming implements and farming assets,” notes Mr Kewada.
“The residential property at 4 Springfield Close, Chisipite, Harare. He bought this land and the next door land from or through a Mr Chapfika who developed the land with the buildings currently on the property. The General paid for the lands and buildings in full. He instructed Chapfika to transfer the properties to one of his companies,” notes Mr Kewada.
He added: “Apart from the farms and lands, the General bought J and H Enterprises, he owned another farm in Ruwa and also Atherston Farm in Bindura.
Gen Mujuru also had Hexagon Farm.
“We have no knowledge nor any details of the Gold Mines the General owned but we are aware one of his daughters (Nyasha) and her husband operates one of the General’s Gold Mines. The General may have owned other assets of which we have no knowledge of,” further stated Mr Kewada.
The estate executor, Mr Mufara, is unhappy with the reluctance by Mrs Mujuru to co-operate in the identification of properties her husband owned.
In a letter to Mrs Mujuru’s lawyer Kantor and Immerman dated June 16, 2015, he said: “Mr Kewada’s letter/schedule of assets does not include movable property. Since your client did not compile any inventory as per your earlier advise, I will be attending to compiling the inventories and evaluation of the movable and immovable properties for purposes of determining the value of the deceased’s shareholding in the following entities… Rylance Farm (Pvt) Ltd, Ruzambu Farm (Pvt) Ltd…”
He also demanded a schedule of Income and Expenditure for all the rentals collected by Mrs Mujuru from properties owned by Gen Mujuru.
“I also request the financial statements of the following companies from your client as at 16 August 2011 and thereafter to today’s date: Rylance Farms (Pvt) Ltd, Backbarrow (Pvt) Ltd, ZAMASCA, Desirable Investments (Pvt) Ltd, Turn Point – Karoi. Micah Gold Processing Plant, Natural Stones (Pvt) Ltd, Kupukile Resources (Pvt) Ltd.”

Prof Moyo is Grandson Of Emperor who Ruled Zimbabwe, Mozambique
Professor Jonathan Moyo is the subject of this African Fact of the Day (AFOTD) — please hold your breath before you jump to premature conclusions. He was born the grandson of an emperor whose grandfather’s domain covered present-day Zimbabwe and Mozambique. The eastern sections of Botswana fell under this empire, too. Professor Moyo was born at a time of social convulsions due to the appearance of the Portuguese who found themselves in a vicious and blood-soaked cycle of fomenting dissent and getting embroiled in the subsequent physical confrontations in Bukalanga-VuKaranga.
His grandfather, Gatsi Rusere, was an impetuous character who acted without thinking. When Gatsi Rusere executed his paternal uncle for failing to capture an invader whose army had been routed in battle, some members of Gatsi Rusere’s family, along with some of the courtier loyal to the executed military leader, were up in arms. By Karanga tradition, Gatsi Rusere’s paternal uncle was his father. So, in effect, Gatsi Rusere had not only executed a loyal army general but he had also committed patricide. To take the life of anyone no matter how justified that might be is, according to Chivanhu, totally unacceptable. The act becomes far worse than a dastardly crime if one kills one’s parent, be it biological or customary. Thus, Gatsi Rusere found himself fighting not only an intra-family but a full-blown civil war.
With his hands literally full, Gatsi Rusere had to enlist the military help of the Portuguese. Of course the Portuguese had fortuitously discovered that there was a robust trade involving the Arabs and Indian and, on the other end, the gold-rich African empire in southeastern part of Africa. The mining and processing of gold was already a tightly controlled industry involving the imperial government and its subordinate kingdoms. This meant that the Portuguese were not in a position to simply bulldoze their way into this trade without a mighty fight. They had to curry favour with the African leaders. When Gatsi Rusere solicited the Portuguese for military help, they were only too happy to bail him out. That military assistance came with a steep price. Once the war had been concluded in his favour, Gatsi Rusere was reduced to a Portuguese puppet.
In all likelihood, the Portuguese may have broken the strictly observed ancient court protocol. As they carried on in their cavalier disregard of ancient customs, Gatsi Rusere’s son, Kapararidze, who had not been handed over to the Portuguese for education, must have witnessed the mayhem and humiliation by the Portuguese at the imperial court. This may have turned him into a Lusophobe, with that hatred of the Portuguese culminating in a significant role not too long after that, and with ramifications or tremors that are still felt today. When his father died, Kapararidze ascended the throne. He was said to have harboured a strong animus against the Portuguese such that he replaced all his father’s courtiers and ministers in an effort to completely cleanse the whole place of the Portuguese filth and stench.
Of course the Portuguese did not take this well. They conspired with Kapararidze’s uncle Mavura to get rid of Emperor Kapararidze. By custom, Mavura had become Kapararidze’s father when Gatsi Rusere died. The same custom says that a son cannot assume leadership for as long as there is a father alive and capable of assuming the responsibilities of said leadership. In light of this tradition, Kapararidze’s ascension to the throne was in breached of the succession protocol. Using this as a pretext to get rid of the Lusophobe, the Portuguese worked in collusion with Mavura thereby precipitating a blood-and-guts civil war and a contestation for the imperial throne. Inevitably, Kapararidze lost and vanished into the greater populace. That defeat marked the beginning of the epic life of the luminary but now-obscure Professor Moyo.
He was captured by the Portuguese during the succession war. Records show that the royal youth was presented to what may have been the equivalent of the Portuguese ambassador in what is now present-day Mozambique. Lord Nuno Alvares Pereira accepted the youth but handed him over to the Count of Linhares, the Portuguese viceroy of India. In turn, and cognizant of the fact that the it was improper to make a prisoner out of one who had royal blood flowing in his veins, the viceroy put the boy under the custody and tutelage of the Dominican priests at Goa, India. At that seminary, the youth received secular and religious education. All the expenses were shouldered by the viceroy.
For their part, the Dominican fathers were more than happy to groom the son of the dethroned Emperor Kapararidze. In this venture they saw a publicity coup that was too good to pass. Their initial objective, having taught the youth in the ways of royal Europe and Christendom, was to take him to Lisbon. The Vicar-General of Goa, Father Geronimo, wanted the youth to be given a royal reception and accommodation befitting his royal lineage and, along with it, see the youth baptized with pomp and circumstance. All this was what we, in our time, call a choreographed showcasing before the European imperial courts and the Pope in Rome the successes of the Dominican Order in its proselytizing mission.
Although the youth did not make it to Europe as had been planned by his tutors in Goa, the Vatican and the Portuguese court in Lisbon were nevertheless spectacularly impressed. For this effort involving the education of the royal youth, one of the Dominican friars received a commendation from the Vatican.
The Portuguese king expressed a keen interest in the welfare and wellbeing of the Mutapa youth. In recognition of the youth’s royal blood and his acquired Christianity, the youth was under protection of the king of Portugal. Part of the Portuguese royal treasury was used for the education and protection of this Royal Mutapa prince.
For his part, the youth was baptized and given the royal and honorific title of Dom
along with the Christian name of Miguel. Lord Michael, as his title and name are rendered in the Anglophone world, inevitably became a priest who was known to be an assiduous scholar and a teacher. Records show that in his field of scholarship he received the highest possible degree of that time, that is; Master of Theology. Based on the fact that Lord Michael had reached the apex of his field of study and also went on to use that education to teach, the late Dr Stan I. G. Mudenge described Lord Michael as one who possessed the equivalent of today’s Philosophy Doctorate degree and, likewise, his professional title as being akin to that of a professor in contemporary times.
For this reason, I proudly call the son of Emperor Kapararidze, Professor Michael Moyo. I am in agreement with Dr Mudenge when he calls Prince Michael Moyo the first Zimbabwean and, if I may point it out, Mozambican “to receive a doctorate degree in any field of study” per European mode of education.
This is the African Fact of the Day (AFOTD), I am BTechno Moyo.
UK Students Want Cecil John Rhodes’ statue Destroyed
Sky News/Agencies|Barely a few months after South African students effected the removal of British business explorer and imperialist Cecil John Rhodes’ statue, some British students based in Oxford are now calling for the removal of another of Rhodes’ statues stationed on British soil.
The student group at Oxford University is calling for the statue at the institution to be taken down because it is claimed to symbolise racism and colonialism.
The statue of Cecil Rhodes – dubbed by some the founding father of Apartheid – is more than 100 years old and sits in a Grade II listed building at Oriel College.
The group wants the university to follow the example of the University of Cape Town which pulled down its statue of the white supremacist in April.
Annie Teriba is a member of Oxford University’s Rhodes Must Fall movement. The second year history and politics student told Sky News the statue represents institutional racism.
“It’s a reminder, more than being a statue, that when this university was built it wasn’t built with us in mind it was built off the back of exploiting labour and the colonial project and it’s something that still gets celebrated in the form of a statue. That’s something that students of colour really take seriously.
“There’s a violence to having to walk past the statue every day on the way to your lectures, there’s a violence to having to sit with paintings of former slave holders whilst writing your exams – that’s really problematic.”
She and other members of the movement take inspiration from fellow students in South Africa. In April they successfully campaigned to remove a statue of Cecil Rhodes at Cape Town University.
In life, Cecil Rhodes was ruthless in his pursuit of the British Empire. In 1888 he launched De Beers consolidating mines in southern Africa. There, policies he fought to implement paved the way for racial segregation. Rhodesia – now Zimbabwe – was named after the diamond magnate.
His estate currently endows one of the world’s most prestigious awards, the Rhodes Scholarship.
The postgraduate award brings students – which have included former US president Bill Clinton – from around the world to study at Oxford University.
Oxford student Brian Kwoba says Cecil Rhodes’ legacy can be redeemed by his financial contributions.
“It wasn’t Rhodes’ money, it was money taken from the labour of southern African miners, who he exploited, that created the wealth that now endows the scholarship that is in his name,” he said.
“Similarly, at All Souls College there’s a library called The Codrington Library [which is] named after a slave owner who had plantations in Barbados in the Caribbean and exploited that labour and then took the money to then endow the library that exists.
“As soon as we start raising these issues a natural question becomes who should actually benefit from these scholarships.”
A spokesperson for Oriel College told Sky News: “When Cecil Rhodes died in 1902 he left 2% of his estate to Oriel College, where he had been a student.
“His legacy helped to fund the construction of a new building, opened in 1911, which is now Grade II* listed. The building frontage included a statue commemorating his benefaction.
“Now, over a century after the building was constructed, Rhodes is thought of very differently. The College draws a clear line between acknowledging the historical fact of Rhodes’ donation and in any way condoning his political views.
“Oriel College is committed to being at the forefront of the drive to make Oxford University more diverse and inclusive of people from all backgrounds.”
But the calls have been labelled retrogressive and misguided by a large section of the British community. Commented one white Zimbabwean based in Yorkshire, “Cecil Rhodes the founder of Rhodesia – now Zimbabwe did more for that country than anyone of the natives of that country but since the white population was driven out by them and the British government.
Annie Teriba and her mates should go to Zimbabwe and look at the state the people are in – well half of them, those who are not members of the ruling tribe. When the whites were driven out the blacks took over the farms and businesses and within a year the whole lot was in ruins because they were either incapable of running then or just too blasted lazy. Under the country that Rhodes founded they had homes, food and money now most of them have no jobs, money or homes worth living in.
Annie Teriba is just an attention seeker looking to make a name for her self – she should sod off back to her own country – it’s certainly not an English sounding name.” – SkyNews/Additional Reporting
TB Joshua for Prison Now , Victim Family Declares
Self proclaimed prophet TB Joshua should be imprisoned for the collapse his multi-storey building in Nigeria, that killed 116 people – 84 of them South Africans(and two of them Zimbabweans), according to the family of one of the deceased.
This follows a coroner’s ruling in Lagos, that Joshua should be prosecuted and his Church investigated.
The family of Patricia Mkhulisi, who was among those South Africans killed in the collapse, said they would find peace knowing that justice prevailed for what happened to their sister. Her brother, Lwandle Mkhulisi, said the fact that TB Joshua celebrated his birthday lavishly in the country last month “showed that he is not remorseful for what happened to our families”.
“This prophet was supposed to ask families who are still mourning if they would be comfortable with his celebration, but instead, he shoved invites in our faces, telling us about how he is celebrating the lives of our loved ones.” Mkhulisi said he was even shocked that the South African government allowed the celebration to proceed.
“I’m 100% in support of the coroner’s recommendation, this man must be prosecuted, he thinks we could just forget what happened while the man of whom our beloved ones died in his watch, goes on with life just like that. Never, he said angrily.
Coroner Oyetade Komolafe made his ruling in a coroner’s inquest, to determine the circumstances of the collapse of a guesthouse for foreign followers of Joshua’s Synagogue Church of All Nations on September 12, 2014, AFP reported.
“The church must be investigated and prosecuted for not obtaining the relevant approval before embarking on the construction of the building,” he was quoted as saying. “The church was culpable because of criminal negligence resulting in the death of the victims.”
When the coroner threatened Joshua with arrest last year, the holy man hit back saying that he was being sabotaged and then linked the collapse to a low aircraft seen flying close to the building before it collapsed.
However, Komolafe maintained in the hearing that the court had the power to summon whoever it deems necessary to assist it. “The counsel should advise the Prophet to come. The church is not on trial. It’s not a matter of ego. Nobody is above the law. The court will be fair to all,” Komolafe said at the time.
Komolafe dismissed Joshua’s claims which recorded that the victims died from multiple injuries, including fractured skulls. He was quoted as saying: “The collapse was as a result of structural failures.”
Komolafe also called for the prosecution of the two engineers used by the church. The family of another deceased Zazi Lwandle a 58-year-old father of six from Mpumalanga, said they were still grieving and they would rather focus on helping each other heal.
Lwandle’s daughter, Kate said: “If it was an accident then we have to accept (it). If the court rules otherwise, then we would also accept whatever the ruling is but right now, we are not even aware of what is going on with that case. We just want to heal the hurt my father’s passing has caused.”

Debt is the slavery of the free! – Publilius Syrus
Debt is defined as ‘A sum of money that is owed or due’ [Oxford Dictionaries]. It is created by the difference between income and expense. There are two types of debt; good debt and bad debt.
Good debt is an investment that will grow in value or generate long-term income. They include; mortgage, student or study loan, business loan etc.
Bad debt is debt incurred to purchase things that quickly lose their value and do not generate long-term income. These consumables include; clothing account, car loan, furniture, appliances, luxury items, flashy lifestyle, store credit cards, credit cards, holiday loan, restaurant meals etc.
Whether it is good debt or bad debt, debt must be managed. People get into extreme debt as a result of many reasons. Some of them are avoidable and others unavoidable. Here is a list of some of the explanations.
Avoidable Debt
Avoidable is preventable and unnecessary. It is created by choice and mostly because of lack of discipline, pride, lack of financial wisdom, poor judgement and poor decision making. This type of debt can be prevented by getting the knowledge and ability to make better decisions.
- Keeping up appearance. Many have fallen into the debt trap trying to “Keep Up” with an image. This is prevalent amongst recent graduates and younger families.
- Poor investment decisions. When you borrow money to invest, be prepared to lose it, therefore seek good solid advice before engaging in any business activity.
- Poor financial management by failing to plan and control personal finance well. Inability to resist impulse purchases and lack of knowledge on how to buy goods and services effectively. Disciple is needed.
- Gambling, alcoholism, drugs and other addictive habits cause financial ruin.
- Little savings and lack of or absence of reserve funds for emergency. You need to build a reserve to use when disasters like accidents, death or sickness strikes.
- Unmonitored credit card and over draft usage. Note that financial institutions are not friends. They are businesses. Their aim is not to protect you, but to protect themselves at your expense.
- Short-term loans or payday loans. They will say to you ‘You can take it. Just pay me when you get paid.’ First check your budget to see if you can afford it, if not, let it pass. Many people buy unnecessary things just because they were told ‘pay when you get paid.’
Unavoidable Debt
This type of debt is caused by crisis beyond our control. However when disaster strikes, it calls for us to make the best financial decisions so that lose is minimised.
- Medical Expenses and ill health. Sickness, especially chronic illness, can attack anyone at any time. When not covered by a medical aid, it can drain all the finances and leave people in debt struggling to make ends meet.
- Underemployment and lose of employment causes a sudden cute of income. This can be mitigated by a corresponding reduction in expenditure. In general aim to create 3 months cash reserve.
- Divorce or separation also causes sudden loss of income and huge legal fees. During family conflicts difference of opinions normally spill into financial discipline.
- Reduced Income. Distressed companies can cut salaries to stay afloat during hard economic times.
- Inflation and interest rate increase. Mortgages and loans are at the mercy of fluctuating interest rates. This causes increase in repayment rates amounts. On the other hand inflation causes increase in prices of goods and services.

Minister Mahofa nearly Beaten Up By Villagers
Masvingo Provincial Affairs minister Shuvai Mahofa last week aborted a trip to Samba Ranch in Chiredzi after angry settlers warned that they would beat her up.
Mahofa and officials from the Ministry of Lands intended to evict newly resettled farmers from the ranch, allegedly to pave way for a well-known Harare businessman who could not be named for legal reasons. The businessman wants to embark on a sugarcane project on that piece of land.
According to sources, the resettled farmers had threatened war on anyone coming to evict them, forcing Mahofa to cancel her trip to meet them and instead, singled out village heads for a closed door meeting at the District Administrator’s office.
The villagers had been on the ranch for the past 15 years and the businessman is keen to kick out the villagers so that he can expand his sugar cane farming business.
Mohafa’s advance team which had visited the ranch earlier in that morning alerted the
Provincial Affairs minister that the villagers were baying for her blood, forcing an about-turn in the minister’s proposed meeting with the villagers.
The Standard later caught up with one of the chairmen soon after the meeting and he confirmed that Mahofa could have been harmed had she dared to visit the ranch.
Although no journalists were allowed in the closed meeting that lasted for seven hours, sources who attended it, told The Standard that Mahofa was forced to stop the intended evictions following fierce resistance by village heads.
“We were told not to talk to any reporter but the issue is that we have been spared for now,” one village head who attended the meeting said.
“We are not sure whether the issue is over but we have made our point heard that we are prepared to spill blood for our homes some of us have built permanent and expensive houses and we have huge livestock so where can we go.”
Efforts to get a comment from Mahofa yielded no results as the minister swiftly drove off straight after the meeting.
Clara Muzenda, Chiredzi District Administrator whose office hosted the meeting was also whisked away from journalists who swooped on her for a comment soon after the meeting.
About eight village heads attended the meeting.
Villagers alleged that government was trying to reverse “the gains of struggle” by evicting them on the 4000 hectares piece of land to give way to a sole farmer, who has supplied vehicles the government.
Meanwhile, Chiredzi Ward 3 Councillor Tarusenga Makamba was manhandled by vendors and commuter omnibus owners, accusing him and his fellow councillors of chasing them from their selling point at Nyore-Nyore, in Chiredzi town.
A day before commuter omnibus owners, vendors and Chiredzi town councillors clashed after the later forcibly removed them from their usual trading point at Nyore-Nyore in Tshovani.
On Thursday, council police forcibly removed vendors from the place to another close to the railway station, where vendors are saying there are no toilets and water. The manhandling stopped upon arrival of the news crew.
“We want council to upgrade the new area where they are relocating us. After all we are paying money every day and where is that money going,” said a commuter driver who only identified himself as Oscar.
Makamba said he was not aware of the evictions but he is only a victim because the area is in his ward.
“I was just passing by and these people mobbed me. I told them that we have to sit as council and them to hear their grievances unfortunately they could take none of that hence this situation.” -Standard

Mourners salute David Masondo
By The CITIZEN|A family man who always put his children first. This is how mourners attending the memorial service of legendary musician David Masondo, described him on Thursday.
Masondo, the lead singer of the traditional music group The Soul Brothers, died on Sunday in a Johannesburg hospital. He was 67. He died after he had admitted after complaining of exhaustion.
“Despite his burning passion for music, he always managed to find time for his children. He almost made it a point that they received the love of a parent,” the singer’s friend and neighbour Dumezweni Mcoyi, said.
Mcoyi, who was one of the speakers during Masondo’s memorial service at the Hammersdale Elangeni College attended by more than a thousand people, said Masondo’s love for children went beyond the singer’s family.
“He also showed the same love that displayed to his kids to his neighbours’ children – he was such a caring person,” he said.
Joy Mbewana, from the Creative Workers Union of SA (CWUSA) said the union was proud of the way Masondo had conducted himself as a musician.
“He brought back our dignity and dispelled the perceptions that musicians were irresponsible people who misused their money,” she said.
“He was a shining example of how responsible musicians should live. Today as I speak on behalf of musicians, I’m filled with pride because I’m speaking on behalf of someone who had been a role model.”
Another memorial serivice was held at the Bassline in Newtown, Johannesburg, where people paid their respects to Masondo.
Masondo started his career doing gigs around the townships of Durban in the 70s.
In 1974 Masondo co-founded The Soul Brothers – a group that went on to become a household name within the African continent.
Considered a pioneer in the Zulu soul music genre, the group went on to release more than 30 albums and sold millions of copies throughout Africa.
KwaZulu-Natal Social development MEC, Weziwe Thusi, who was representing KZN premier Senzo Mchunu, said the province was proud to have produced an outstanding person such as Masondo.
“We are not here to mourn but to celebrate David’s life – he lived life to the fullest and fulfilled all the tasks that God had given to him,” she said.
Artists, Thusi said, should draw lessons from Masondo’s well lived life.
“The reason why some many people had come for his memorial service today is testimony to the good life that Masondo lived.
Chiyangwa Guns for Mliswa job
KNIVES are out for acting Zanu PF Mashonaland West chairperson Ziyambi Ziyambi, with a petition being circulated to remove him in favour of flamboyant businessman and central committee member, Phillip Chiyangwa.
Sources said a vote of no confidence was set to be passed against Ziyambi who is being accused of dishonesty and disloyalty.
Zanu PF provincial executive members told The Standard that the signing of a petition against Ziyambi was almost complete and the announcement of his removal would be made this week.
Ziyambi is being accused of failing to revamp structures in all the districts to pave way for provincial elections. The provincial structures collapsed when several officials linked to former Vice-President Joice Mujuru were fired.
Ziyambi is also said to have refused to endorse Angela Muchemeyi as the Mashonaland West women’s chairperson, a move that has reportedly angered Grace.
Mashonaland West Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) had initially refused the imposition of Muchemeyi as the provincial women’s boss by the Grace-led national executive last month without the blessing of the provincial committee at their last meeting in Chinhoyi. But they were forced to reverse their decision overnight.
Ziyambi yesterday said he was not aware of such a plot to remove him.
“I am not aware of such a move but if I am accused of having failed, then the whole provincial executive committee has failed, not Ziyambi alone,” he said.
He claimed district committees were restructured but they were only awaiting verification.
Ziyambi said he was aware of some officials who have always wanted to chair the province noting they were the ones responsible for sowing seeds of confusion in Mashonaland West.
“They have always wanted to lead the province at whatever cost and those are the people going behind my back,” he said.
Ziyambi spearheaded the removal of former provincial chairperson Temba Mliswa — the same scenario that has come back to haunt him.
Chiyangwa yesterday refused to comment on the issue.-Standard
Tsvangirai Attacked Over Dzamara Gamatox Hat
MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai was yesterday attacked for wearing a hat during prayer time.
This was at the Itai Dzamara prayer rally at Zimbabwe Grounds in Machipisa.
“Why is he the only person wearing a hat during prayer time when there is no reason for wearing a hat on this cold Saturday”? asked one attendant.
This came as Tsvangirai was also criticised for ignoring the disappearance of several other MDC activists he has personally blamed on both Jabulani Sibanda and Temba Mliswa who he co-hosted the prayer function.
The below was written by one Frank Morris Mutize:
“May you please allow me to ask Cde Chalton Hwende, Cde Job Sikhala one question concerning yesterday’s Itai Dzamara rally?
My question to the former comrades is:
“As you where in the prayer sessions with Jabulani Sibanda and Themba Mliswa, did you get to spare a minute to just ask Cde Jabulani Sibanda where he put our own Shepherd Jani who was abducted by four man who were using his blue Mazda twin cab?
“Did you spare a second to ask Cde Jabulani Sibanda what happened to all our cadres who disapppeared in Masvingo and other parts of Zimbabwe?
“This reminds me of the time Theresa Makone was the minister of Home Affairs, she ran from Zambezi to Limpopo looking for Mutasa’s son who was arrested for fraud whilst our own Solomon Madzore, Last Tamai Maingehama, Yvonne Musarurwa were perishing in prison.
“This reminds me of how Morgan Tsvangirai kept on drinking tea with Mugabe while our fellow democratic fighters were suffering in the hands of ZANU PF.
“Comrades and friends it’s time for us to open our eyes and see the great betrayal by a man we thought was the front-runner of the democrats.”
Woman Strips Naked Over Dzamara Arrest
An MDC T female supporter stripped naked yesterday in protest against illegal arrest after she together with 67 activists were abducted outside the Zimbabwe grounds where the Itai Dzamara prayer rally was being held.
People were just rounded up outside the rally venue as they were coming from buying food. They were forced onto Police trucks and taken into police cells at Machipisa.
For over two hours, desperate police officers failed to declare charges. As the arrested activists and worshipers continued demanding answers, an angry woman stripped her clothes beyond her undergarments in protest.
“Why have you arrested us? What have we done? You better kill me along with Dzamara then,” she lashed out.
In the following video footage, she is seen screaming aloud in anger as others in equal rage break in song.
By this time, their sadza meals they had bought at the shops had gone cold.
Many are wondering on the implications of democracy in Zimbabwe. Sadly the same woman who dared to openly flaunt her activism will have to stay in prison until Monday as her MDC party led by Morgan Tsvangirai forsook her.
Despite close to 100 party members being arrested in broad daylight, there was no mention whatsoever of the incident in party spokesperson Obert Gutu’s statement at the end of the day.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Morgan Tsvangirai were fruitless.
During the time that the group of elderly men and women were all in the police cells, one woman in her periods struggled for hours pleading for cotton wool. The scene was so humiliating and disturbing as she was heard by men young and old begging for cotton wool. She was only later assisted by the Zimbabwe lawyers for Human Rights Jeremiah Bamu who saved the day managing also to bring some sanitary wear.

Hubby Forces Wife to Sleep Next Door to Enjoy Girlfriend
A BULAWAYO man has allegedly been forcing his wife of 28 years and their five children to sleep next door so as to make way for his girlfriend. As if that is not enough, Beatwell Nyathi has also been beating his wife, Florence Mlilo, who has since applied for a protection order from her husband. According to Mlilo, Nyathi, a Bulawayo City Council cleaner at Zulukandaba Primary School, has since brought his girlfriend into their matrimonial home.
Nyathi and Mlilo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Miss Evelyn Mashavakure.
Mlilo told the court that she has been married to Nyathi since 1987 and they have five children.
“Your Worship, two of our children are minors and I live with them in our rural home, while my husband stays in our house in Makokoba but now he has a girlfriend. Whenever I come to visit with the children, my husband chases us out of the house, insults us, and sometimes assaults me,” she said.
“He chases me out while he lets his girlfriend stay at our house. He has been abusing me since 2004. The incident last occurred on 1 July where my husband chased me out of the house and verbally abused me resulting in me sleeping next door, while he enjoys with his girlfriend.”
Mlilo stated that the conduct of her husband was disturbing her peace and that of her children.
“I have been embarrassed enough. I pray that my husband be ordered not to chase me out of the house, not to insult me, and that woman who now stays in our house be ordered to leave,” said Mlilo.
Nyathi, however, denied the allegations and told the court that the woman his wife was referring to was actually not his girlfriend but his second wife.
“Madam, these are my two wives. I actually married them at the same time. It is not true that I am denying my wife access to the house, instead she leaves on her own,” he said.
Miss Mashavakure granted Mlilo the protection order and Nyathi was barred from harassing, assaulting and insulting her.
“If what your wife has said is true that you are harassing her. I urge you to desist from such practice. You are ordered to keep peace with your wife. You are not supposed to emotionally, physically and verbally abuse her.
“Lastly, I’m referring you and your wife for counselling,” said Miss Mashavakure.

BREAKING NEWS: Police Raid at Dzamara Rally, Arrest MDC-T Supporters
LIVE UPDATE: 16:45 – The arrested are now being forced to pay fines on charges of “Public Drinking.” ZLHR lawyer Jeremiah Bamu tells ZimEye.com the police later became conciliatory and made the arrested pay fines. Still not clear how many have the money to pay and will be released.
16:28 – The number of the arrested continues to grow…is now more than 60 men and women. They are denied to see their lawyer, Jeremiah Bamu (ZLHR).
16:07 – A woman in her periods is stranded inside, and is currently begging for cotton wool. Police are ignoring her repeated requests.

ZRP Cops have just raided worshipers and democracy activists just outside the Dzamara rally venue and arrested over 50 MDC-T supporters.
ZimEye.com can reveal over (50) fifty MDC-T supporters men and women are locked up at Machipisa Police Station at present (Saturday 1530Hrs).
Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights advocate Jeremiah Bamu told ZimEye.com, “I am just getting to the police station right now,” he said.
Although Bamu was earlier told by the police the raid is disconnected from the Dzamara rally, ZimEye can exclusively reveal the arrest has everything to do with the rally as the people were arrested at the entrance to the rally and are all prayer-rally attendants. “Yes but current indications are that its nothing material and entirely disconnected from the prayer meeting,” Bamu said.
But upon a follow up with Machipisa Police Station, ZimEye.com was told the move was a deliberate on the rally to frustrate the Dzamara prayer. One of the incarcerated told ZimEye.com:
“We had just gone to get some food, where we were rounded up. They beat up some of us and put us into a truck.”
ZimEye can reveal the police have shifted statements on the reason they have arrested the activists and at the time of writing, Mr Bamu later said: “The police are saying they are yet to decide and are requesting for time.”
At 16:10 Hrs, Mr Bamu was told by the police that the charge is “public drinking.” But the large crowd of mature men and women seen by ZimEye had no alcohol at all on them.

‘Stop Using the Word Xenophobia’
Lindi Masinga| Johannesburg – South African media should refrain from using the word “xenophobia” because it implied South Africans harboured extreme hatred for foreign nationals, and using the word could spark attacks, the chairperson of the parliamentary committee set up to probe violence against foreigners said on Friday.
Speaking during a visit by the ad hoc committee to the Jeppe police station in Johannesburg and during a committee meeting with Izinduna (tribal headman), committee co-chairperson Ruth Bhengu said: “As journalists, you must refrain from using xenophobia because it means having extreme hatred which we don’t have as South Africans.
“We must move away from this xenophobic word because it brings us to the wars and makes it seem like South Africans hate foreigners when we have lived with whites and Indians who we don’t know where they come from. We are proudly South African and we accommodated those who came from all over, therefore it is not correct to judge and say South Africans are xenophobic and prevents us from moving forward. Media must report that it’s just attacks, not xenophobic attacks, which shifts the focus from the real issues.”
The Izindunas, from various hostels around Johannesburg, felt the main issue was that factories were hiring foreign nationals because they were willing to work for “peanuts, while local residents were unemployed and hungry. They said they did not understand how foreigners were able to open tuck shops and own companies, but as South Africans it was hard for them.
“Firms don’t hire people from here. Is this committee here to help us or because the foreigners were attacked when South African people who vote for them are hungry?” Miya, one of the Izindunas from Jeppe asked.
“I’m not happy I don’t have a cent as we speak. We tried with the police to sort things out in this area. Locals here have nothing. How do foreigners have everything and we have nothing. Hopefully now that you (government) are here you will help. These buildings, who is allowed to get in there when we have nothing?”
He said in Jeppe no one had been attacked during the most recent outbreak of violence earlier this year.
Most of the Izindunas felt that the government had not helped them as South Africans.
“We have problems but we don’t hear parliament helping. Only crazy people would want war and we don’t. Police are the only ones who help, not government. What have we done because government doesn’t help? We don’t like that hostel people are made to be the criminals and people in these buildings and in townships are the criminals. If we have done wrong forgive us, we want to work together.”
A Nduna from Jabulani hostel said that if it were up to him, companies would take on local people and he hoped the visit from parliamentarians would help with this.
“Ndunas and police die, but government doesn’t come solve things, but now foreign nationals are harmed and they come.”
The committee said foreign nationals had told them on their visit on Thursday that they had experienced attacks and persecution in their own countries and had come to South Africa to be safe.
“We may have not achieved all the issues the country has, but there are long-term plans to address unemployment, inequality and poverty,” said Tekoetsile Motlashuping, the other co-chair of the committee,
“We can’t turn a blind eye when there is violence against other nationals. Foreigners come in all forms, some for economic reasons, educational and add value to the economy. We need to solve the problem so that it doesn’t happen again. If the world doesn’t invest in South Africa, we will all go hungry.”
Miya was adamant, saying: “You all want the truth? There’s no xenophobia! When people are taking our jobs and space, don’t act like you don’t know what the true problem is. Where will our children sell and make a living. What will stop the war is local people getting jobs.”
The Izindunas said they did not hate anyone, but wanted the country to be controlled
“Let’s not avoid the truth. In firms, foreigners are managers and our people are nothing,” Miya told MPs.
“Leave xenophobia. I want us to live the right way. We stopped a white man and a Nigerian man from opening a brothel where our children would be selling their bodies. We want our children to have respect. Stop using ndunas as free labour. People say we are selling them out because foreigner are protected.”
Motlashuping said they were not there to defend foreign nationals. But, he said it was clear that the attacks stemmed from economic confrontation, with people fighting for tuck shops and small businesses and what was perceived as uneven competition between foreigners and locals.
Bhengu said the committee would be talking to the Chamber of Commerce and local authorities regarding the acquisition of buildings for business purposes.
“South Africans complain that the infrastructure that they operate their shops in isn’t okay,” she said. “We are going to engage the private sector as well as the local municipalities.”
The committee was formed in the wake of attacks that took place in April where several foreign nationals were killed and shops belonging to foreigners looted in Johannesburg and KwaZulu-Natal.
Bhengu added the committee would be looking to report back on its work in September if everything went according to schedule.

Mujuru Missing At Dzamara Rally | BREAKING NEWS
Expelled former Vice President Joyce Mujuru is missing at the Itai Dzamara prayer rally which started early Saturday morning, ZimEye.com can reveal.
It is 1330 Hours in Harare here, and Mrs Mujuru the topmost special guest is nowhere to be seen.
Close Mujuru sources say she has deliberately bunked the function which could have put her on the CIO (Central Intelligence Organisation) target-list. They told ZimEye.com while journalists are busy reporting on the so called Mujuru party, the latter is in private seeking her former boss Robert Mugabe’s forgiveness.
Although Dzamara friends said they are still expecting her arrival, close sources told ZimEye.com Mujuru will not be attending.
Dzamara friend Dirk Frey told ZimEye. She is not here I can’t see her anywhere.”
“She should be coming over though,” he added.
But Mujuru whose mobile-phone was switched off was nowhere close to Harare’s Zimbabwe Grounds.
One Mujuru confidante told ZimEye.com Mujuru is in private drifting back to Mugabe. “She has apologised to Mugabe and they are working on taking her back into the party. Mugabe regrets expelling her listening to his wife”, the source said.
