Dzvukamanja Strike Propels Pirates To Victory

Warriors striker Terrence Dzvukamanja scored the winner for Orlando Pirates, in their 2-1 win over Baroka, in a DStv Premiership match played yesterday.

The former Bidvest Wits striker returned from injury in the Soweto giants’ 0-1 defeat to TS Galaxy last Sunday.

Just like last week, he came off the bench, but this time, he was decisive.

Just seconds after coming on, and with the clash headed for a draw, Dzvukamanja headed home Wayde Jooste’s brilliant cross in the 88th minute to seal all three points for Pirates.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Ovidy Karuru’s Black Leopards Relegated

Warriors vice captain Ovidy Karuru’s Black Leopards will play in the Glad Africa Championship next season, after they were relegated from the DStv Premiership yesterday.

The ‘Masvingo Mosquito’ moved Lido Daduvha as a free agent in the middle of the current season after parting ways with Cape Town-based Stellenbosch.

He scored six goals in all competitions but his exploits could not save the Limpopo-based side from the chop.

Their 1-3 defeat to Cape Town City yesterday sealed their fate.

Karuru is yet to put pen to paper to a new deal though, as he openly told the club’s chairman David Thidiela that he would wait to see if the club can survive relegation, before inking a new deal.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Antonio Conte On The Verge Of PSL Return

Antonio Conte is nearing a return to the English Premier League after he began talks with Tottenham for a possible deal.

According to reports in England, negotiations have advanced quickly and Spurs chairman Daniel Levy has already discussed personal terms with the gaffer who left his job as the manager of Inter Milan last Wednesday.

And the Italian is now the front runner to succeed Jose Mourinho at the London side after efforts to lure Mauricio Pochettino for a second spell failed as PSG are reluctant to let go of their manager.

Should a deal be completed, this will mark the return of Conte to England after spending two seasons at Chelsea between 2016 and 2018 where he won the league title in his first year.

Levy is also trying to recruit former Juventus sporting director Fabio Paratici as he considers going back to a two-tier management structure.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

Zanu PF Activists To Join Police Force

Tinashe Sambiri|The Zanu PF leader Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa has instructed party structures to oversee the process of recruiting known activists into the police force, ZimEye.com has established.

Analysts say Mr Mnangagwa wants to use the police and the army to manipulate electoral processes.

According to WhatsApp chats seen by ZimEye.com, Zanu PF is already recruiting its sympathizers into the police force.

This, according to political observers, will further compromise the ZRP’s operations.

“Tell our people who are interested in joining the ZRP to forward their names. Please note that this is a directive from the authorities. We have to make sure that our people join the police force.

Please compile the list of those interest as soon as people.

World Health Organization Increases Tobacco Control Programmes

WHO Director-General Special Awards for World No Tobacco Day announced: Minister of Health India and University of Bath for exceptional achievement in tobacco control.

Smokers face a 40 – 50% higher risk of developing severe disease and death from COVID-19.
WHO partners with Viber, WhatsApp, FB Messenger, WeChat and AI company Soul Machines to reach billions with free digital quitting tobacco aids.
The World Health Organization’s ‘Commit to Quit’ tobacco campaign has made resources from its Quitting Toolkit freely available to more than a billion tobacco users, less than 5 months into the year-long campaign.

WHO launched the campaign to support those millions of tobacco users who are actively taking steps to save their lives, but still need help to succeed.

The campaign is currently working directly with 29 focus countries. Each country agreed with WHO on selected activities, including, running national awareness campaigns, releasing new digital tools, revising policies, engaging youth, training health workers, opening new cessation clinics, supporting nicotine replacement therapies through WHO partners, establishing national toll-free quit lines, making quitting courses available, and more.

“Smokers have up to a 50% higher risk of developing severe disease and death from COVID-19, so quitting is best thing smokers can do to lower their risk from this coronavirus, as well as the risk of developing cancers, heart disease and respiratory illnesses,” said Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, WHO Director-General. “We urge all countries to play their part by joining the WHO campaign and creating tobacco-free environments that give people the information, support and tools they need to quit, and quit for good.”

“To help tobacco users to commit to be quitters and winners, we are using digital aids to release the WHO Quit Challenge chatbot and Artificial Intelligence digital health worker Florence, and making advocacy material available in 30 languages,” added Dr Rüdiger Krech, Director Health Promotion, WHO.

The Quit Challenge gives daily notifications of tips and encouragement for up to 6 months to help people remain tobacco free. It is available for free on WhatsApp, Viber, Facebook Messenger and WeChat.

Globally, roughly 39% of men and 9% of women use tobacco. The highest smoking rates are currently found in Europe at 26%, with projections only showing a 2% decrease by 2025 if urgent government action is not taken.

Director-General’s Tobacco Control Awards

Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has given special recognition awards for tobacco control to the Minister of Health and Family Welfare of India, Dr Harsh Vardhan and to the Tobacco Control Research Group at the University of Bath, UK.

Dr Harsha Vardhan was instrumental in the 2019 national legislation that bans E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products (HTPs) in India. The Tobacco Control Research Group in UK has worked relentlessly to expose tobacco industry attempts and tactics to weaken, block or delay tobacco control, thereby helping secure policy change nationally and globally.

Zanu PF Regime Unleashes Dogs On Hapless Informal Traders

NATIONAL LOCAL
NATIONAL LOCAL
NATIONAL

Tinashe Sambiri|The unleashing of dogs on hapless informal traders by the Zanu PF regime is a sign of gross incompetence, the MDC Alliance has said.

Informal traders are mere victims of Zanu PF’s monumental misgovernance, according to the MDC Alliance Namibia.

Below is MDC Alliance Namibia’s full statement:
The unleashing of vicious Police Dogs on innocent young people and informal traders is absolutely satanic, Mdc Alliance Namibia supposes.

03 June 2021

Mdc Alliance Namibia District absolutely condemns the satanic and anti-poor policies being unleashed by desperate Zanupf onto the helpless informal sector in Chitungwiza and Mutare. As an external assembly led by President Advocate Nelson Chamisa, we subscribe to the pro-poor social liberation policies that respect vulnerable members of the society.

We fully distance ourselves from any attempt by the sadist central government to decimate the livelihoods of vendors and other informal traders who are victims of unemployment and ZANUPF’S gross misgovernance.

It is quite pathetic that in Chitungwiza, overzealous, Mr Muguti (the Zanupf-appointed Provincial Development Co-ordinator of Harare Metropolitan) has instructed the Acting Town Clerk, Mrs Machona to violently and arbitrarily unleash the partisan Zimbabwe Republic Police(ZRP) on the vendors. They are seeking to evict hungry informal traders from their places of work without giving them any meaningful remedies. We are convinced that this anti-poor people gesture is unlawful as it is being carried out without a court order or any reasonable measures to secure alternative workstations in violation of the vendors’ right to due process.

Moreover, it is critical that there is no council resolution to support the proposed inhuman , sadist and unconstitutional evictions. We further lampoon the heavy-handedness of the captured Zimbabwe Republic Police in Mutare. The unleashing of vicious dogs on young people and informal traders going about their daily business is cruel, inhuman and degrading. Mdc Alliance Namibia echoed that there is no space for such barbaric conduct in a constitutional democracy hence citizens must converge for complete change in Zimbabwe.

As a matter of law and procedure , informal traders can only be removed from where they are undertaking their trade in circumstances where council provides alternative trading spaces for them to operate. No alternative spaces have been provided which renders any attempt to evict the defenceless vendors arbitrarily and grossly unreasonable. Zanupf Satanists must spare our people from anti-poor agenda and commence to upgrade our People’s Livelihoods. We demand a People’s Government as part of our #Agenda2021 where we are urging all progressive citizens to converge for change.

Furthermore, Mdc Alliance Namibia wants to warn the clueless Zanupf belly politicians in Harare to desist from interfering with the work of the local council and allow them to peacefully and effectively manage local issues as provided for in the 2013 Constitution instead of employing various organs of the central government to mar the upliftment of social services. Moreso , the insensitive regime is obliged to intervene to even cut or neutralise the negative and detrimental effects of Covid-19 lockdowns on the capacity of the people and business to generate income unlike obstructing them to fend for their starving families.

Fundamentally, we call upon the moronic Zanupf government and their surrogates to fully implement the devolution provisions of the Supreme Law of the country to ensure that local authorities have the autonomy to run their own affairs and budget to support vision and plans in line with our Local Government Agenda.

To wind it up, the senseless banning of begging and vending at traffic intersections unravels the heartlessness of a monocratic regime that has dismally failed to put the economy on a sound footing.

We need #PeoplePower to peacefully and democratically resist Law enforcement agents who take instructions for the Shake Shake building.

Why I Am A True MDC Alliance Cadre

By Ellson Pirukai Mutonhori

THE REASONS WHY I AM A TRUE MDC ALLIANCE CADRE

ZIMBABWE at the dawn of independence 1980 they implement a range of policies and social transformation programmes targeting the previously oppressed, and this indeed becomes a season of hope for tangible demonstrable reasons.

It is hard to ignore the early gains of a liberated country as Zimbabwe experienced the Reconstruction and Development Programme , Truth and Reconciliation Commission, dramatically increased representation of women and youth in government, social security, rolling out of social infrastructure as electricity and roads to previously neglected areas
,The season of hope lifted the mood of the society in anticipation of more great things to come and the charters and manifestos that had been crafted during the struggle are often understood literary as guiding implementation documents that will be followed religiously. The spirits are so high that the national mood is punctuated by winning sports teams, hosting of global events, improving social, economic and political indicators as change is in the air and liberation movement in power seem to keep the promise until we are soothed into believing that history will not happen to us, we shall bark the trend of history, we are unique and we have learnt from those who committed mistakes before.

In fact liberation movements seem to take a leaf and lessons from the book of their former oppressors with such amazing proficiency.

Something almost like magical political alchemy happens before our disbelieving eyes. The very same political elite that had led the country to independence grow increasingly more autocratic, a corruption based on political patronage becomes the DNA of political practice often aided and interpenetrated by the corporate sector, inequalities sharply increase as money is everywhere except where it is most needed, poverty levels increase, social cohesion and reconciliation project sports teams catch the fever and losing becomes their key performance area.

Divisions and discord within the ruling liberation movement lead to purges, smear campaigns, killings and rewriting of history becomes the hallmark of a once-glorious liberation movement Ironically, when a liberation movement falters, it intensifies its invocation of this glorious history and frequency of political rituals to invoke history, even if grossly mis-represented in its reproduced remix. The society is treated to a regular diet of history even though their material conditions deteriorate.

This history often place those who are in full insurrection against liberation history at the apex almost suggesting that they deserve everything they have, including public resources, because of their role in liberation history.

A political aristocracy’s strenuous effort to cling to power produce a political universe with its insulated logic cast against a society numbed into disbelief.

Thank you for today

Machete Gangs On The Prowl Again

FOUR people from Mudhindo,Guruve are nursing injuries from machete gangs who are terrorising Mudhindo in search of gold.

The gangs who are said to be from Midlands are being accommodated by a local villager identified as Mbela.

This promitted Guruve South legislator Patric Dutiro and Chief Bepura to summon village heads on Wednesday and map a way forward in dealing with the matter.

The village heads told the law maker and the chief that they now live in fear of these machete wielding gangs.

“Machete gangs are now terrorising our area four people are battling for life as we speak from machete attacks after Mbela accommodated (Mashurugwi), it is now dangerous to move at night because you can be a victim,” lamented one village head.

“These gangs are also pouncing on our young daughters spreading Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI), MP and Chief may you please act because our area has become one of the dangerous place to live.”

Chief Bepura blamed the police for failing to contain the situation as they take bribes from gold miners.

“The biggest problem in this area is our police they have become so corrupt to the effect that they cannot even enforce the law as they are mandated to do,” Chief Bepura said.

“I have engaged them several times but no action is being taken these gangs are known and it should not take them time to arrest them but because they are corrupt they prioritize money more than their job and my people are now at risk.”

Chief Bepura said when Mbela came with his gangs he thought they were just visitors who came for a few days in search of the precious stone and would soon leave but instead they have become villagers in his area.

“When Mbela came with these gangs l thought they were just visitors who wanted to mine for days and go back to their homes, little did l know that we have accommodated criminals who were on a mission to destroy my area,” he added.

The village heads called for the ministry of mines  to temporarily close Mbela’s claim and make sure the gangs are driven away from Mudhindo.

Dutiro said he heard all the consents of the villagers and will soon act on the issue.

“I have heard all your consents the ministry of mines is aware of this meeting from here I am going to their offices and tell them what you said, I am also doing the same to the police since we have some here they have seen how bitter you are over this issue,” Dutiro said.

He further noted that machetes were dangerous weapons which needed to be taken away by the police and concured with village heads who called for transfers in the police force.

ZANU PF  youth national member Paul Rwodzi blasted Mbela and his gangs for disrespecting the chief.

“This miner (Mbela) is very disrespectful to the chief he was summoned by the chief to discuss about his claim and he never came that’s an insult to the chief, one of his gang was also summoned to the traditional court for impregnating a minor and he clearly stated that he does not attend traditional courts hence we do not people who do not respects our traditional chiefs,” Rwodzi said.

“Last week the game gang fired warning shots which really sent terror to villagers because the only sound they know is that of a whip not a gun but no arrests have been made police is not acting as the chief said.”

Rwodzi promised to call Minister of Home Affairs Kazembe Kazembe to meet the disgruntled villagers.

“We know you are willing to talk to Minister of Home Affairs Kazembe it is not a problem since he is the chairperson of this province next week he is gracing a field day at Whitemore I am sure he will just pass by and you tell him your issues.”

Women in mining in Guruve expressed fear and urged the government to take stiffer measures on machete gangs.

Zimbabwe Mining Federation (ZMF) Mashonaland Central province secretary for women affairs Chipo Salome Muzulu said hooliganism should end.

“I am hearing that machete gangs have resurfaced in our area and as women in mining we are now afraid to do our mining activities because machete gangs harass and victimise women,” Muzulu said.

“Hooliganism should end hence we are appealing to government and law enforcement agencies to put stiffer  measures on these hooligans as we rally behind operation chikorokoza ngachipere.”

Police in the past years pounced heavily on illegal miners and machete gangs especially at Mazowe mine (Jumbo) which had become a death trap due to machete wielding gangs.

Nissan Prepared For Growing Its Manufacturing Footprint In Africa: Ghana Trainees Prepare To Graduate From A Training Programme In South Africa

ROSSLYN, South Africa – On Thursday, 12 Ghanaian technicians will be graduating from Nissan’s plant, ready to spearhead the launch of Nissan’s assembly plant in their own country.

For the last 12 weeks they have been learning the finer points of how to assemble the Japanese automaker’s legendary Navara, which is currently being built in Africa at the Rosslyn plant in South Africa and expected to start rolling off the assembly lines from the end of this month and on sale across African markets in the months that follow.

The comprehensive training programme course will equip the trainees with the ability to assemble the new Nissan Navara and learn the principles of the Nissan Production Way.

This is to ensure that the numerous quality control measures are enforced and allow them to help train the next generation of Ghanaian engineers to assembly these vehicles in their home country.

“The production of a vehicle is intricate, so the training course we have been offering will not be the end of our work in supporting the Ghanaian team’s capabilities,” says Shafick Solomons, Plant Director.

“It’s one of the many steps we are taking to support a sustainable relationship between South Africa and Ghana going forward. We will continue to share resources and knowledge, as well as training to make sure that the Ghanaian team is as agile and efficient as any team in the rest of the world all working towards and adhering to Nissan’s global production standard, the Nissan Production Way.

”The preparation for the Ghana Assembly plant follows Nissan’s ground-breaking Memorandum of Understanding with the Government of Ghana that was signed during the initial stages of working towards the Ghana Automotive Development policy.

“This is a wonderful moment for us as a global company with incredible African roots,” says Mike Whitfield, Managing Director of Nissan.

“We set out to build a vehicle in Africa for Africa by Africans with the Navara, which we are about to achieve from our Nissan South African plant.

“Now we are laying the groundwork to do just that in Ghana, as we help the people and government of Ghana begin to realise their dream of creating a Sustainable Automotive Industry in their country.

“We have always said that we wanted to work with countries on the continent who want to partner with us in this regard. We were the first movers in Nigeria and we are looking at other countries in Africa where there is similar potential, which is both exciting and timely as we emerge from the economic ravages of the COVID 19 pandemic.

”The Navara production facility is in Accra, the capital of Ghana, and will be 100% Ghanaian operated by the Japan Motors Trading Company (JMTC), which invested US $3 million into its construction, following Ghana’s drafting of its automotive development policy to encourage investment in the sector.

“Nissan and Japan Motors support the Ghana Automotive Development Policy, which is why we want to do our part in creating jobs and stimulating African economies. We both want to create a new future for the sector, and change the lives of the people who build, test and drive these vehicles,” says Salem Kalmoni, Managing Director Japan Motors.

Slain General’s Daughter Buried With Gown

Brenda Nantongo and Gen Katumba Wamala

Brenda Nantongo, the slain daughter of Uganda’s outgoing Transport and Works minister Gen Katumba Wamala, will be buried on Thursday in Kikandwa village, Mukono District in the central region of the country, while dressed in a wedding gown.

The 32-year-old died Tuesday after the car she was in came under attack from gunmen in an assassination attempt on her father in Kisaasi, a Kampala suburb.

Brenda’s mother, Ms Christine Katumba, said the family decided to bury her in a wedding dress because she had always looked forward to having a wedding, adding that they had broached the subject of marriage several times in conversations.

“I don’t usually speak at functions, but I had committed to speak at Brenda’s wedding and she would say ‘I would wear a gown of this make’ and she would say ‘I don’t like a certain make’ and, so, we knew exactly what she would wear [on her wedding day],” she said.

Speaking in Luganda at a funeral service on Wednesday evening, Ms Katumba added: “And, so, I decided that my daughter had to wear a gown. Even if she is dead, let her wear it in a coffin, let us throw this wedding as her last celebration.”

Indeed, at the service, Brenda’s body was in a glittering hard-wood casket in a sleeveless, round-necked cream satin gown with white pearls. A cocktail hat was clipped to her trimmed hair.

The service was an emotional affair as each speaker talked about her untimely death. Brenda’s younger sister Belinda Katumba, who is currently in Canada, in a message read by their brother Julius Katumba, spoke of how the deceased had plans to start a family.

“I cannot believe that my sister is gone. Just yesterday (Monday), we spoke during the day crying about the death of our grandmother, not knowing that I would spend the next day mourning Brenda,” Belinda said. “I will miss your laugh, our weekly drives with mom to visit grandma.”https://24f1f852685597227c8ba5326feb4306.safeframe.googlesyndication.com/safeframe/1-0-38/html/container.html

One of her aunties said they often teased Brenda about getting married and that unlike other girls, she never answered them rudely or barked at them, often responding that she would marry at the appropriate time.

“I would ask her when she would bring a man home and whether we would not fall while greeting [guests] during the marriage [due to old age as she continued delaying to marry],” Gen Katumba’s elder sister told mourners while speaking in Luganda.

Another mourner, Ms Stella Kisekka, said: “I had to pick out a gown for Brenda. I had to do her make-up.”

Zanu Pf MP Dates Jena Mine Over Community Concerns

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF legislator for Silobela constituency, Mtokozisi Manoki Mpofu,  has engaged gold producer, Jena Mines over concerns raised by  the community.

Some of the issues discussed at the meeting between Mpofu and Jena Mine  manager, Denton Chabayadzara, included the need for the mine to retain the current workers,  offer redundant claims to local community, provision of water taps in the community and provision of a mobile vehicle for Covid-19 vaccination programme.

Jena Mine, used to be owned by government through the  Zimbabwe Mining  Development Corporation. But was recently acquired by Landela Mining Venture, an investment vehicle linked to business mogul, Kuda Tagwireyi.

” ….Let me assure you that we have a manager (Denton Chabayadzara) who is prepared to work closely with Silobela community,” Mpofu said.

Mpofu said that there was commitment by Chabayadzara on redundant claims to be availed  to the local community.

The legislator said the proposal will, however, be forwarded through various structures of the company since the mine is now a private company.

Mpofu also said that the mine manager promised to have Jena Mine engineers and local leaders work together on the proposal to have water taps for livestock and domestic use in the community.

“The mine also accepted my proposal for them to consider supporting school girls with sanitary pads, exercise books, pens etc. There was also a proposal to provide food hampers for the elderly in the community, requirements list should be submitted and when funds are available it will definitely be actioned,” Mpofu said.

The mine  manager however bemoaned the high staff turnover especially on local workers and absenteeism which could jeopardise the revival strategy and encouraged stakeholders to help in ensuring commitment to work by the local employees.

Zim’s Gold Export Receipts Falls

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s gold export receipts have plunged 35% to US$78.4m in May from US$120m achieved in the prior comparative period as the yellow metal deliveries to the country’s sole buyer and marketer, Fidelity Printers and Refiners dropped.

While receipts in January this year were lower than of the prior comparative period, export receipts from February to April 2021 were higher than the same period last year.

But the continuous fall in gold deliveries has been attributed to the plunge in May.

Commenting on the plunge, the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) governor John Mangudya told Business Times that subdued gold deliveries have culminated into a decrease in export receipts.

“The country made total gold shipments of US$78.4m in May 2021 from US$120.1m earned during the same period last year.

This is the first time since February this year that the country’s gold export earnings have plummeted on a month on month comparison basis due to the subdued deliveries,” Mangudya said.

Gold export receipts in January 2021 were at US$53.1m from US$98.1m during the same month last year on subdued deliveries due to Covid-19 effects, heavy rains that the country has experienced in January and the failure to remove costs on small scale gold miners.

In February  this year the country shipped out gold worth US$66.1m compared to gold shipments  worth US$56.1m while in March 2021 gold export receipts  reached US$81.2m  compared to  US$71.9m against the  same month in 2020.

Overall, gold export earnings decreased 8% to record US$375.8m during the first five months of the year against US$409.68m recorded during the same period last year.

Gold deliveries have bounced back for the first time in March 2021 after recording a positive improvement of 2% to reach 1.80 tonnes from 1.77 tonnes recorded during the same period last year due to the slowing down of the rains in the period under review.

Small scale producers’ subdued performances have caused a general decline in gold output in the past year with the primary producers maintaining the same output over the years.

Ironically, small scale miners are getting 100% forex retention threshold while large scale miners are getting 60%.

Recently, Fidelity Printers and Refiners general manager Fradreck Kunaka revealed that the country could be losing over 30 tonnes yearly valued at US$1.7bn due to smuggling and unfavourable mining policies.

Kunaka said the country should totally liberalise the gold sector to combat smuggling and compete at the highest level with foreign gold buyers.

Meanwhile, Gold Miners Association of Zimbabwe chief executive Irvine Chinyenze believed the country could earn more if fundamentals are addressed.

“…Government should come up with friendly policies that encourage the miners to deliver gold to the FPR.

“Unnecessary costs like that of importing cash should be removed and there is a need to bring in more new players to allow competition to improve bullion deliveries,” Chinyenze said.

The country’s gold output plummeted 31% to record 19.052 tonnes during 2020 from 27.66 tonnes recorded during 2019 due to Covid-19 effects, delay in payments and low foreign currency retention levels.

A recent mining report advised that the government should pay gold producers at world prices to woo them into selling the yellow metal through the formal channels.

The report blamed FPR’s flawed centralised gold buying scheme and called for the law to bring complicit powerful politicians to book as they are believed to be sponsors of machete gangs’ violence in the Midlands Province and in Mazowe District.

Economic analysts said the 100 tonne gold output target by 2023 can be achieved if the authorities put in place friendly mining policies and incentivise miners.

“Cement Shortages Artificial”: PPC Zimbabwe

NATIONAL LOCAL

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s largest cement maker, PPC Zimbabwe says artificial shortages created by customers engaging in panic buying is adversely impacting on the country’s construction industry.

The crisis, which has seen cement being diverted to the black market where it is fetching higher mark ups, has the potential to dent Zimbabwe’s construction industry recovery.

“Artificial shortages are damaging to Zimbabwe’ goals and progress, as cement stocks are often diverted towards the black market in that case. PPC products underpin the efforts of many to uplift local infrastructure, and PPC will continue to play its part,” PPC Zimbabwe managing director, Kelibone Masiyane, said in a statement.

“We all play a part in ensuring the market’s stability by avoiding engaging in panic buying and hoarding purchase behaviours, which create artificial cement shortages,” he said.

Masiyane said PPC Zimbabwe was fully committed to the local market and current cement stocks were sufficient to meet local demand.

PPC Zimbabwe has a milling capacity of over 1.4m  tonnes of cement per annum.

It operates a clinker plant at Colleen Bawn in Gwanda, and cement milling plants in Harare and Bulawayo.

Masiyane said PPC has been instrumental in supplying phase 1 of the recently completed Beitbridge to Harare road rehabilitation.

“PPC’s superoad and surecem cement have been used to build Zimbabwe’s roads, highways and infrastructure for the future, from Zambezi to Limpopo.

“Phase 2 of the project is ongoing with over 32% of the phase completed. Through industry-first products and services, PPC recognises its important role as a manufacturer at this moment in Zimbabwe’s history and efforts towards Vision 2030,” Masiyane said.

Another noteworthy project at Hwange Thermal Power Station is currently in progress, utilising world-class PPC suretech cement, Masiyane said.

With the help of this high-quality and dependable general-purpose cement, the project is over 60% complete.

He said the focus cannot be on today alone, but on a vision for tomorrow’s Zimbabwe and her people. PPC said roads, hospitals and schools are critical to the health, prosperity and quality of life of Zimbabweans.

PPC Zimbabwe has various ongoing projects which are Causeway Dam construction in Marondera, Manyame Air Base Hospital, National University of Science and Technology student accommodation and R.G. Mugabe International Airport refurbishment.

Masiyane said as Zimbabwe works towards Vision 2030, PPC will continue to strengthen its partnership with the government, in order to tackle any challenges that stand in the way of Zimbabwe’s development and prosperity.

PPC Zimbabwe believes that it has a role to play to invest in the development of the people of Zimbabwe and its communities.

With so many factors impacting the nation’s economy, PPC is committed to its ongoing partnership with the government in support of the road rehabilitation programme.

Masiyane said the business has both capacity and sufficient stock to ensure the successful completion of the programme.

MP Ejected From Parliament For Wearing “Tight Fitting” Trousers

By A Correspondent- A female Member of Parliament (MP) in Tanzania was ejected from Parliament for wearing trousers and other female MPs are now demanding an apology to the MP.

The MP was ejected after Hussein Amar, a male MP, said the way some women dressed invited ridicule to parliament.

Said Hussein Amar on Tuesday:

_Mr Speaker, an example there is my sister seated on my right with a yellow shirt. Look at the trousers she has worn, Mr Speaker!

The Speaker then ordered the MP, Condester Sichwale, to leave. Said the Speaker Job Ndugai:

_Go dress up well, and then join us back later._

He added that this was not the first complaint he had received about female Member of Parliaments’ attire, and told chamber orderlies to deny entry to anyone who was inappropriately dressed.

While Amar did not elaborate on what he found wrong with Sichwale’s outfit, he quoted the parliamentary rules which allow women to wear trousers but stipulate that clothes should not be tight-fitting.

A group led by MPs Jacqueline Ngonyani and Stella Manyanya insist that the move was unfair and that there was nothing wrong with Sichwale’s clothes.

The incident has also attracted comments on social media from around the world, with some saying it was another example of men policing how women dress.

Zanu Pf Yet To Decide On Mugabe Ministers Who Were Hostile To ED

By A Correspondent- The ruling ZANU PF has said it was still deciding on how to deal with former ministers in the administration of the late former President Robert Mugabe who were hostile to then vice president Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Concerned individuals are sports minister Makhosini Hlongwane and former labour deputy minister Tapiwa Matangaidze who applied to be readmitted into the party two years ago.

The duo was expelled in 2017 when Mnangagwa rose to power for being loyal to the vanquished ZANU PF faction, generation 40 (G40).

Zanu PF Midlands provincial chairperson, Daniel Mackenzie Ncube told reporters that the party was still debating on whether to readmit them or not. He said:

_We received applications from several former G40 cadres including Makhosini and Matangaidze. We deliberated on those applications and passed them to head office._

_I am meeting with Dr (Obert) Mpofu and we will be discussing the applications. Hopefully, they can be concluded as soon as possible._

_They say they love the party and are loyal to the HE (President Emmerson Mnangagwa). They agree they made a mistake and are young._

Ncube also said the ruling party was, slowly, but surely gearing up for 2023 adding that “Zanu PF is always confident of electoral victory.”

He said:_

The restructuring programme is going on really well. We have since covered Shurugwi, Zvishavane. Mberengwa and Chirumanzu._

_There may be contradictions but I will not elevate them to factionalism. The party has moved on from the DCCs. We have embarked on a serious outreach programme. We also inducted all the DCC members to the Chitepo School of Ideology. Hopefully, they will mend their residual differences._

When Mugabe expressed his desire to run for office again despite being 94-years-old, the party was automatically ushered into a succession dispute that reached its climax in 2017.

Most of those who were opposed to Mnangagwa’s ascendancy to power are now in exile.

Zim Man Who Murdered Wife In Front Of Kids Dies 2 Weeks Before Release From Prison

By A Correspondent | A Zimbabwean man Godfrey Muzhuzha, who in 2005 killed his wife Judith, by stabbing her 9 times in front of their kids aged 7 and 11, has died.

In a video interview his seven-year-old daughter told detectives: “I started shouting, ‘Stop it’ but he kept carrying on. I think he had something sharp because my mum was bleeding everywhere.

“It looked a bit like my mum was dead. I saw blood on the curtain, on the mat and on the floor.”

In her interview the other lass, an 11-year-old said: “My mum was just dying, bleeding to death … Then my dad ran off. My mum was lying on the grass.”

Police Bust Lockdown Bash- Discover Own Colleagues Partying

Police busted an illegal lockdown bash — only to find off-duty colleagues partying.

Officers were called to reports of loud music and up to 30 people at a noisy house party.

But when they arrived they found up to ten officers at the Saturday night do — and one reportedly shouted at their on-duty colleagues.

Bodycam recording was said to have been turned off during the blue-on-blue showdown.

A source said:

“To find that a load of serving police officers are being Covidiots is a major embarrassment for the force — especially as they have been handing out these draconian £10,000 fines.”

The May 15 incident in Hove, East Sussex, came just two days before Covid restrictions were eased and groups of six people were finally allowed to meet indoors.

Sussex Police said a number of off-duty officers were at the party and it was being investigated by the force’s professional standards department.

Chief Superintendent Nick May said: “We take Covid-related breaches very seriously and we are actively investigating this.

“The officers involved have not been suspended while the investigation continues.”

The force repeatedly handed out £10,000 fines to people organising illegal lockdown parties between September and November last year.

“ED, Ziyambi Ziyambi Lied Under Oath On Judges’ Appointment”

President Emmerson Mnangagwa and Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi are being accused of perjury (lying under oath) on the appointment of Supreme Court judges.

The duo denied plans to appoint Supreme Court judges in an affidavit that was in response to an application by Chamunorwa Chingwe who is seeking to bar the appointment of the judges without following section 186 of the Constitution.

In the affidavit, Attorney-General Prince Machaya, acting on behalf of Mnangagwa and Ziyambi dismissed reports that the president was intending to appoint Supreme Court judges without conducting any public hearings. Machaya said:

10.1 The Applicant alleges that he became aware of the alleged impending appointment of Supreme Court Judges without the conducting of public interviews on 26 May 2021.

10.2 That bold allegation is not supported by any fact which he has pleaded, he does not say how he became aware of the impending appointments and there is nothing stated about what facts he became aware of. There is no statement as to who advised him of the process and whether such advice was formally or officially communicated.

10.3 It is not every rumour or suspicion that should be used to found the institution of an urgent application. That procedure is reserved for genuine urgent matters founded upon real facts. Acting otherwise, as the Applicant does in this matter, amounts to abuse of the process of the court.

Six Supreme Court Judges are expected to be sworn in today (Thursday), by Chief Justice Luke Malaba. The new judges are highly expected to hear the appeal by Malaba over the extension of his term of office.

NGO Forum filed an urgent chamber application on behalf of its client Chamunorwa Chingwe.

NUST Records Two Suicide Cases In A Month

THE National University of Science and Technology (Nust) has urged students to utilise counselling and advisory services provided by the institution following a second suicide involving a student in a month.

The latest incident involves Alpha Kayeruza a part four student doing a Degree in Biology and Biochemistry who on Saturday committed suicide by throwing himself in a dam in Mvurwi in Mashonaland central province.

Last month, a part three student Vernon Musomera who was doing a degree in Property Development and Estate Management, is said to have killed himself at his parents’ home in Nkwisi Gardens, Tynwald in Harare.

Nust Director for Communication and Marketing, Mr Thabani Mpofu assured students that the counselling and advisory services uphold confidentiality.

“As a university, we offer counselling services through the Students Counselling and Advisory Services located at the Division of Student Affairs. The office, which is manned by full-time professional counsellors, offers free and confidential interventions to all students. These vary from individual counselling sessions, group counselling sessions for students with shared interests, to workshops for common campus life challenges such as Substance Abuse, Sexual and Reproductive Health, HIV and Aids, Depression, and Anxiety management,” he said.

“The Counselling and Advisory Services office works very closely with other service centres like the Chaplaincy, the NUST Clinic, Student Representative Council (SRC) and academic departments and faculties in providing effective and timely services to students. We continue to encourage students to utilise the Students’ Counselling and Advisory office, which offers services on personal health and psychological concerns; inter/intrapersonal problems; academic pressures and financial challenges; family concerns including illness and bereavement; developmental issues such as relationships and anger management; transitional challenges like separation anxiety and phobia; anxiety; suicidal ideations; cultural diversity; abilities/disabilities diversity; Sexual and Reproductive Health issues and HIV and Aids information and support among others.”

Mr Mpofu said before the Covid-19 pandemic, the counselling services were easily accessible on campus.

However, adapting to the new normal, the University, working together with the students’ representative council (SRC) and in partnership with non-governmental organisations, will soon be running virtual awareness campaigns to support students who are studying in the comfort of their homes across the country.

“We appeal to parents and guardians to contact the University whenever they notice unusual behaviour of their children, who are our students, so that they can be assisted through Counselling and Advisory Services office,” said Mr Mpofu.

Pastor Patrick from Spirit Embassy The Good News Church (TGNC) Bulawayo said:
“Generally, when someone commits suicide they feel like there is nothing else, they can do, they feel like their problems have no solution but forgetting that there is always a solution with God. The Bible says nobody has the power to give himself life nor does anybody have the power to take away his own life. They lack knowledge that there’s always a solution with God, God is always there to talk to,” he said.

Zim Could Be Hit By Cooking Oil Shortages

Zimbabwe should brace for a shortage in cooking oil following a 60% increase in crude oil prices in the international markets to US$1650 per tonne and the failure by oil expressers to get the bulk of their foreign currency requirements on the auction system, Business Times has learnt.

The recent increase in crude oil prices from the US$1000 that prevailed in December presents a headache to oil expressers who are getting half of the US$4m required per week on the auction market.

Some oil companies are now forced to source the forex from the parallel market, where premiums are higher, insiders said this week.

Consequently, the price of cooking oil has shot up to about ZWL$415 per 2 litres bottle from about ZWL$374 two weeks ago.

Industry players told Business Times this week that the sector’s capacity utilisation has since halved to 20% from 40% in December 2020 due to crippling shortages of raw materials.

Oil Expressers Association of Zimbabwe president, Busisa Moyo, said a shortage was imminent adding that the central bank should move in line with crude oil price increases.

“We are not getting enough forex from the auction market as the central bank continues to give us the same amount despite a 60% increase in crude oil prices (on the international market). Therefore, we are getting by far less tonnage than we require,” Moyo said.

He said the cooking oil industry players have engaged the central bank which continues to allocate US$2m a week to the sector players.

According to the findings of the first round  of the Livestock and Crop assessment conducted by the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Resettlement, soyabeans hectarage  was 136% up to 79 359 hectares during 2020/21 summer cropping season from 33 599 hectares planted in the prior season.

Output for soyabeans in April this year, which is one of the critical raw materials for the  local oil companies were estimated to be 71 000 metric tonnes, a 78% increase from  40 000 metric tonnes in 2020.

Some cooking oil firms are already utilising the local soyabeans.

Recently, the government pegged the price of soya beans at ZWL$48 000 per tonne.

Moyo said there was a need for a review of the price.

He said with other players accessing soyabeans at competitive prices, more crops are expected to be delivered to the Grain Marketing Board and various companies’ premises.

Lockdown Rules Haunt S_ex Workers

By A Correspondent- It is winter and the howling wind makes it difficult to navigate the freezing yet frosty terrain.

It is just getting dark and it is that time of the day when most people are on their way back home from their various workplaces.

However, the young women line up the street and they are clearly visible in their skimpy dressing whenever they are flashed by a car that is passing by.

*Doren Maseko* is one of the dozens of young women who journeys every day from Chitungwiza, a town 27 kilometres away from the capital city of Zimbabwe to her workplace, PaJongwe in Hatfield, Harare where she plies her trade starting from around 6pm into the dead of the night.

A young woman who refused to disclose her real age preferring to reveal that she was in her late 20s, Maseko is a sex worker.

She told Zimeye that business is sometimes brisk just after sunset as she gets clients who will be coming from work.

“Remember, our clients are the same people who go to work and some may pick you up just after work for an all night service or just a quick one. The earlier you come to work the better.”

Quizzed on what happens to her two children at home while she is away, she said:

“I normally do not go back home with clients because I leave my children with a fellow tenant who babysits my children until they sleep making sure that they have eaten dinner and they have locked their doors for the night.”

She sounds convincing when claiming that her children are in safe hands.

“The woman who babysits my children is a good woman and she also has kids of her own. Besides, my children are not that young. I had my first in my teens and they are well over 10years,” she said.

Responding to why she chose to “sell her body” at Pajongwe, Maseko said she had overheard a colleague saying that the clients here paid better money.

She had discovered that it was true, but the lockdown had changed it all.

“The lockdown affected and killed our business. We had no customers because remember only essential service providers were allowed to move around.”

Maseko revealed that as a sex worker, she had tried all avenues to solicit and lure customers during the lockdown, but all her efforts were in vain.

“I tried advertising online but the men were not forthcoming. There is stiff competition online and very few would make the trip to Chitungwiza just for you. It is far from the elitist clients.”

On a good day, she says she makes between US$15 to US40.

“But sometimes, you even struggle to get US$5 and this is when I have to just trade my body for somewhere to sleep and wait for the morning so that I can get transport to go back home.”

She complained of abuse at the hands of law enforcement agents especially police officers.

“The curfew is affecting how we work. Police officers solicit for bribes for us to be able to work after 10pm.”

She alleged that “after catching you for soliciting for sex, they in turn solicit for sex from you.”

“In most instances we end up complying and sleeping with them in exchange for freedom. Some even go to the extent of requesting for unprotected sex.”

Raped

Added another young lady who identified herself as Patience dressed in a bum short but visibly shivering:

“They also take away our money. You have to bribe your way out, US$2 to $5 it depends on your negotiating skills.”

Patience however says this is not the only problem.

She tells ZimEye that sex workers are also prone to violent clients.

“Thieves are a nuisance and some of the clients want their money back after they finish having sex with you. Some shout and beat you up saying they did not get value for their money.”

She revealed that in worst instances, sex workers are raped.

“It is difficult to report the rape because already you would have violated the lockdown regulations and so you have no option but to deal with it on your own or it back fires.”

She revealed that there are instances when she has been gang raped after a client negotiates for sex alone only to shift goalposts and invite his colleagues for a “free ride”.

“Only one person negotiates for sex but when you reach the client’s home, you will find 4 or so others and they take turns to sleep with you. Its horror.”

Zimbabwe’s Constitutional Court in 2015 made a landmark ruling and barred police from arresting women out on the streets on prostitution charges.

However, police spokesperson Paul Nyathi is on record saying they are not above the law and they can be picked up for violating lockdown rules just like anyone else.

Nyathi revealed that sex workers were among the close to 60,000 people arrested since April for violating the lockdown regulations.

Protection

Rights activists argue that while the landmark ruling makes sex workers’ operational environment better than before, legalizing sex work would protect them and their clients from HIV and abuse.

While the de- criminalisation of sex work has seen them operate freely on the streets, the intense stigma attached to sex work shapes interactions between sex workers and their clients, family, fellow community members, and societal structures such as the police and social services, says Claris Madhuku, a human rights activist who doubles as head of the Platform for Youth Development.

Madhuku argues that the impact of violence and related human rights abuses on the lives of sex workers, and how they have responded to these conditions confirms their experiences of unlawful arrests and detention, violence, extortion, vilification and exclusion within society.

“Sex work tends to be more aligned to the moral standing of an individual but it has adverse effects on the physical, mental and social wellbeing of this population. Some of them end up resorting to violence, abortions and all sorts of social ills because they are not accepted in society.”

The Proposed provisions for the revised SADC Protocol on Gender and Development Part 2: Constitutional and Legal Rights Article 4: 1, states that State Parties shall by 2030 enshrine gender equality and equity in their Constitutions and ensure that these rights are not compromised by any provisions, laws or practices.

“States Parties shall implement legislative and other measures to eliminate all practices which negatively affect the fundamental rights of women, men, girls and boys, such as their right to life, health, dignity, education and physical integrity.”

Reservoirs of STIs

Accordingly, member countries are expected to “strengthen all accountability systems and mechanisms to ensure that women are empowered to claim their rights and have access to redress and remedies”.

Reads article 2(a): “States Parties shall enact and enforce legislative and other measures to ensure equal access to justice and protection before the law.”

Says another sex worker only identified as Trish:

“There is so much discrimination in communities and even within health institutions where we are viewed and treated as reservoirs of sexually transmitted infections. Besides the clients beating you up when a condom bursts, some clients even remove the condom during sex so that they can have it raw arguing that because I am a prostitute, I have nothing to lose. Negotiating for safe sex is a challenge.

 She added:

“It is also expensive to seek medical treatment and covid-19 pandemic has not made it any easier. I have heard that they require a covid-19 certificate at the clinic for them to treat you. Who affords that? I will drink traditional medicines “guchu” to clear all infections.”

Gender and women’s rights expert who is also the Zimbabwe Gender Commission chief executive officer Virginia Muwanigwa says human rights including access to quality health care services are conferred by international and national instruments by virtue of one being human.

“Human rights exist in constitutional principles and need to be made legal entitlements by the state through laws, policies. On the other hand, legal rights provide penalties in the event of violations while enabling one to demand for their rights in practice.”

According to the Beijing Plus 5 Review Report, states must strive to effectively address multiple or intersecting forms of discrimination through examining the differential impact of discrimination on different groups of women and girls across all policy areas, and ensure the application of appropriate responses in laws and policies.

Recommendations by the report calls for the strengthening of the legal protection mechanisms and improved responsiveness of public services.

The sex workers however, tell a different story.

“We have very limited resources or possibilities to challenge perpetrators, or to seek justice and legal compensation,” said Patience.

The sex workers’ stories of their everyday lives, social interactions and relationships portray narratives of resilience and resistance. They confirm that each has devised their own unique individualised survival strategies and informal forms of support.

Taking into account the stigmatised nature of their profession which in most instances undermines activities of collective action, it remains to be seen if the second republic will come up with unified actions that help sex workers counter the risks in their environment and mobilise against the violations of their fundamental human rights.

Scandal As Ordinary Citizens Are Smuggled Into War Vets Registers

Veterans of Zimbabwe’s liberation war have claimed that ordinary citizens are paying bribes to register as freedom fighters in order to benefit from monthly pension stipends at the expense of real liberation war heroes.

The issue came out on Tuesday in the National Assembly following a petition by the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (Zipra) Veterans to the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence on the amendments to the Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Act.

The petitioners claimed that the Act was not precise in its definition of beneficiaries.

Bubi MP Sonny Key Mguni (Zanu-PF) said the vetting process had loopholes which needed to be plugged since the vetting committee had officers who had no liberation war credentials.

“The war veterans, who are supposed to benefit from the programme, are made to fail and those people that offer bribes to the vetting officers are the ones that get shortlisted, the genuine ones are turned back,” Mguni said.

“On these grounds, their wish was that the vetting officers should come from all the provinces. That is what the war veterans are appealing for. I also noted that there is a board which was commissioned by the chairman on his report. This board was overlooked.”

The war veterans also demanded that government should have a clear system on who deserved to be buried at the country’s national shrine, Heroes’ Acre, to avoid inconsistencies.

“There is another problem that we have seen in this country. There are people that went to war that deserve to have been buried at district or provincial heroes’ acres,” Dzivarasekwa MP Edwin Mushoriwa (MDC Alliance) said.

“I know, for instance in Harare,, some people that we knew went to war were actually buried haphazardly as they were denied places even at district or provincial level, but guess what, (dancehall musician) Soul Jah Love was buried at the Provincial Heroes Acre.”

He said the decision to confer hero status must not be done by a select group of people. The ruling Zanu-PF party currently decides who must be conferred a hero status.

Other issues that the petitioners raised are that an automated system should be used to capture information on war veterans.

36yr Old Zim Scientist Sets Up First Private Owned Research Institute

NATIONAL LOCAL

A Zimbabwean scientist has set up a research institute as a way of turning to science to find solutions to the country’s healthcare challenges.

Brighton Samatanga, 36, a molecular biophysicist and founder of The Biotech Institute, reached professorship in Germany. In August 2020 he returned home to set up what is reputedly the country’s first privately-owned research institute.

“The research institute is a hub of many things. We have three departments: technical services, research and education. We have a team of researchers and graduate students in our labs. Our aim is to bring the foremost molecular technology to Zimbabwe as a way to strengthen the country’s health system,” Samatanga told TimesLIVE.

At the research institute, Samatanga is currently working on CRISPR, a new technology that facilitates making specific changes to organisms’ DNA.

“Compared to previous techniques for modifying DNA, this new approach is fast and very accurate. Our aim to use CRISPR to edit genes of crops such as maize to help them become resistant to drought. We don’t just want to apply it, we want to understand how it works and make it better. We use the same technology for biomedical applications. Some genetic diseases in people can be corrected by making one or two substitutions, or gene editing,” he said.

The Biotech Institute has come up with an effective way to tackle the Covid-19 pandemic when it comes testing.

“When I set up the research institute, it was at the peak of the Covid-19 pandemic and it made me focus on technologies that can provide fast Covid-19 testing turnaround time. We have a portable battery-powered system known as the RT-LAMP. It can test for Covid-19 in 35 minutes. With a test like this, you can detect the virus quickly and avoid transmission.

“I am using all the competencies I gained during my time in Europe to try to make a difference back home,” said Samatanga,

Headmaster, Deputy In Soup Over Exam Cheating

By A Correspondent- The headmaster of Chingele Secondary School in Chiredzi South and his deputy have been demoted and transferred after they were allegedly involved in a Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) scandal where they wrote examinations for their wives and girlfriends in 2019.

This was unearthed recently by a team of Zimsec investigators in Harare, who found out that the head Mike Maluleke connived with his deputy, Checkson Tsumele and a mathematics teacher Roddington Sithole and English teacher, Misheck Mahungu to write examinations for their wives and girlfriends.

Maluleke was transferred to Odzi in Bikita district where he is now a deputy headmaster, while Tsumele was transferred to Malipati High School in Chiredzi.

Sithole and Mahungu skipped the border early last year after investigations by the Education ministry, Zimsec and the Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission (Zacc) intensified.

Masvingo acting provincial education director Shyllet Mhike confirmed the transfers, but said determination on their fate had not yet been made.

“Yes, as the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, through the Public Service Commission, we have transferred the teachers following a disciplinary hearing determination. It was also found out that the head was not substantive.

“So it was not only a transfer, but also a demotion. New teachers have already been deployed at the school. The transfers are with immediate effect and they were supposed to report for duty at their stations in their respective districts yesterday (Tuesday). As for the other two senior teachers, the determinations are not yet out,” Mhike said.

Maluleke and the teachers were accused of writing examinations for eight candidates, while one teacher wrote for his second wife.

Candidates were also allegedly allowed to discuss answers during the examination.

Nine candidates had all their results for the November 2019 session nullified in accordance with the Zimsec policy, while the Combined Science examination results for the whole school were also cancelled.

Zanu Pf Youths Nabbed Over Sakubva Demonstration

By A Correspondent- Heavily armed police in Mutare on Tuesday blocked and arrested over 20 Zanu-PF youth after they demonstrated against the city council for resisting their move to invade Sakubva vegetable and flea markets.

The youth led by secretary Danmore Mambondiyani had convinced hundreds of vendors and informal traders to besiege Sakubva vegetable and flea markets to force their opening after they were closed to curb the spread of COVID-19 last year.

But the move was thwarted by the police who stopped the march from Sakubva to the central business district, resulting in Mambondiyani and about 20 other youths being arrested.

They had also reportedly attempted to meet Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister Nokuthula Matsikenyere on Monday to air their grievances.

Manicaland police spokesperson Inspector Luxon Chananda said they were still looking into the matter.

Mambondiyani confirmed his arrest, but did not give further details.

“I can confirm my arrest, but I am yet to know my charge,” he said.

Mutare municipal police yesterday also confiscated vendors’ fruits and vegetables.

Council spokesperson Sprein Mutiwi said they were seized with the matter.

Couple Jailed 11yrs For Conniving To Rape Minor

By A Correspondent- A depraved Chimanimani couple was sentenced to 11-years  each in jail after they connived to rape a 14 year old juvenile.

Diamond Mupeta (24) who was employed as a security guard at Gwendingwe Estate in Chimanimani and his wife Prosperity Marange (20) were convicted on their own guilty pleas when they recently appeared before Chipinge regional magistrate, Farisi Chakanyuka, facing rape charges

It is in the States case that on the 6th of  April, Marange went to the complainant’s homestead and asked the sister to allow the complainant to look after her maize fields in her absence.

The complainant’s sister allowed Marange to take the complainant to her homestead and chase away baboons from the fields.

The court heard that Marange left for an unknown destination and upon her return, she asked the complainant to marry her husband, Mupeta, who was also in the hut.

The complainant reportedly turned down Marange’s request, arguing that she was still too young for marriage.

However, Marange continued pestering her and also told her that she also got married at a young age. Marange forcefully grabbed the complainant’s left hand and closed the door.

It is further alleged that Mupeta requested to be intimate with the complainant, but she refused.

After she refused,  Mupeta went on to push the complainant to the ground and she screamed for help.

In an effort to silence her screams, Marange allegedly gagged her mouth with a blanket.

Manica Post reports that Marange then went out of the hut and left Mupeta to rape the juvenile.

After the act, Mupeta told the complainant not to tell anyone. He left the hut and went back to Gwendingwe Estate. Marange later accompanied the complainant home and also instructed her not to divulge the assault to anyone.

The matter only came to light on April 8 when the complainant’s sister discovered that she was having difficulties in walking.

When she was quizzed, the complainant narrated what had transpired and a report was made to the police, thereby leading to the couple’s arrest.

Chinamasa Lands The Most Dangerous Post In Zanu PF

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF secretary for Finance Patrick Chinamasa has been appointed Acting party Political Commissar.

Zanu PF political commissar is the most dangerous position in the party with only two former holders of the position since independence still surviving.

All party officials who include, including Moven Mahachi, Border Gezi and Elliot Manyika died mysterious deaths.

Chinamasa takes over from Victor Matemadanda who is set for reappointment as Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Mozambique.
Matemadanda has accepted his appointment by President Emmerson Mnangagwa saying he does not care if people say he has been demoted.

Matemadanda, who is also the Deputy Defence Minister and Gokwe Central MP, will replace Douglas Nyikayaramba who succumbed to COVID-19 early this year.

Chinamasa’s appointment was announced Wednesday by Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo.

Chinamasa served most of the year 2020 as the ruling acting party’s spokesperson as the incumbent Simon Khaya Moyo battled with ill-health.

Chinamasa becomes the third person to take charge of the Zanu PF commissariat department since the November 2017 military coup.

After the removal of Saviour Kasukuwere as party commissar, President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed Elbert Rugeje, but removed him in May 2019 and he was replaced by Matemadanda.

Meanwhile, Mnangagwa has appointed Mashonaland West chairman and Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi to the Politburo.

Mnangagwa Ignores Mpilo Hospital Fire Victims Doctors

By A Correspondent- The government has ignored the plight of doctors who lost their properties in an inferno at Mpilo hospital last week and only managed to give them birth certificates.

Last week several doctors were left homeless at Mpilo hospital after their hostel was gutted by fire.

The doctors lost properties worth thousands of united states dollars to fire.

Briefing the media during a post Cabinet meeting Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said affected doctors have only been provided with national identity documents.
“The affected staff have so far been provided with accommodation, clothing, toiletries and food since the disaster occurred.
“Birth certificates and identity cards have been issued to all those in hotel accommodation and passports will be issued at the Registry Office,” she said unapologetically.

Mohadi Lands Top Zanu PF Job

By A Correspondent-Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has redeployed former Vice President Kembo Mohadi to party headquarters where he is now in charge of party affairs.

Mohadi was fired in March after he was exposed by the media for having sexual relationships with married women.

Clueless Mnangagwa Puts Blair Toilet On His Official Agenda

By A Correspondent- The government of Emmerson Mnangagwa said it has put the issue of Blair toilets on its agenda.

In an interview, with the state media, this week National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Daniel Garwe said he had been tasked by his clueless boss, Emmerson Mnangagwa to look at Blair toilets.

“Government has banned the use of the outdated pit latrines, Blair and open defecation replacing them with a new flushable model which is affordable and suitable for the rural system.

“Unlike the urban flush system which uses nine litres of water the new system only requires two litres for flushing. The new flush system is also cost-effective as it uses existing infrastructure allaying the fears of possible demolitions on the toilets being used,” he said.

Caps United Dismiss Herentals

THE relief on the face of CAPS United coach, Darlington Dodo, was clear when he appeared at the post-match media conference at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

The Green Machine gaffer was full of praises, for his charges, after his team came from a goal down to snatch an important victory, against Herentals, in a Chibuku Super Cup match.

Makepekepe badly needed a victory, after making a slow start in this competition, by drawing their first two games in Group One.

Striker Tinashe Balakasi and midfielder Blessing Sarupinda, delivered the important goals for the Green Machine, either side of the break.

Herentals had taken an early lead, courtesy of Gibson Chinobva’s fifth-minute penalty conversion.

The victory meant Makepekepe dislodged eternal rivals Dynamos, at the top of the table, ahead of Glamour Boys’ match against ZPC Kariba, in another Group One match.

The outcome of the match will set an interesting stage for Sunday’s Harare Derby, pitting the two traditional rivals, who are now battling for control of Group One.

“We had some good moments and, some other moments, which we feel we can improve on,” said Dodo.

“But, the most important aspect was to make sure that we grind a positive result, which is a win.

“This win was long overdue, I am glad for the boys, for the hard work they put in, after coming back from behind again and, fortunately, managing to score a winning goal.

“As a team and, personally as the coach, I think the feeling was that we wanted such a positive result, to make sure that we get into the winning groove.

“We know what we haven’t been doing right in the previous games — it was conversion and we were conceding in open play.

“But, we didn’t concede in open play in this game, it was a penalty awarded to them and there was nothing we could do.”

Makepekepe found themselves trailing, after conceding a disputed penalty, just five minutes into the game.

Herentals, who again thrust into the starting line-up their 49-year-old club owner Innocent Benza, had some fine opportunities, to increase their lead early on, but they could capitalise.

The Green Machine levelled terms, following a defensive error by the Students, with Balakasi making a fine run, and beating the ’keeper with a rising shot, after 22 minutes.

Earlier, the former Harare City man had missed a good opportunity, after heading a ball swung in from a free-kick by left-back Brendon Mpofu, just wide.

Mpofu looked good with his crosses and was on point with the set-pieces, which deservedly won him, the man-of-the-match award.

He had an effort tipped over the bar by goalkeeper Frank Kuchineyi moments after the restart.

Herentals midfielder, Charles Lumbilani, twice came close but dragged his shot wide, after the CAPS defenders were caught napping, following a quick free-kick, taken by Benza.

Goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga then went airborne, to stop a close range header and keep the scores balanced, going into the half-time break.

But, Ronald Chitiyo could have made the difference, at the other end, only for his long range effort to come off the woodwork, with the ‘keeper beaten.

Chitiyo still played a huge part in CAPS United’s win, after working his way on the left, before crossing the ball into the path of Sarupinda, in the 62nd minute.

The midfielder responded with a well-placed header.

CAPS United are now top of the table with five points from three games.

Dynamos are second with four points, with a game in hand, while Herentals are still winless, with two points from three games.

Their coach, Kumbirai Mutiwekuziva, took responsibility for yesterday’s defeat.- Chronicle

NRZ Switches NRZ Off

National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) properties in Hwange had power disconnected yesterday by the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) over an undisclosed amount owed by the parastatal.

Greater Hwange Residents Trust co-ordinator Fidelis Chima yesterday said members of the association, who are tenants at the NRZ properties in Ngumija high-density suburbs in the mining town, had been plunged into darkness after the power cuts.

“We heard that ZETDC has disconnected all railway properties. NRZ has been collecting money from residents and not remitting it to Zesa,” Chima said.

Zesa’s acting western region general manager Lloyd Jaji confirmed the disconnections although he refused to be drawn into disclosing the amount owed by the NRZ.

“The power supply will remain cut unless they pay or come up with a payment plan. We wanted to shut down Zesa from all the people who owe us so that people refrain from not paying their electricity bills. However, because we are very low on transport we are doing it bit by bit,” Jaji said.

He said Gwanda also did not have water due to shutdown of water supplies after it failed to settle its electricity debt. “Therefore, we urge residents to come up with payment plans and pay their electricity bills.”

NRZ spokesperson Nyasha Maravanyika declined to comment, demanding proof that NRZ owed the power utility.

“Where is the evidence that NRZ owes Zesa? I will not comment unless you show me the documents,” Maravanyika said.- NewsDay

President Bans Skinny Jeans

North Korean leader Kim Jong-un has banned skinny jeans, mullets and certain body piercings as symbols of a “capitalistic lifestyle”, according to reports.

It follows a state-run newspaper warning that more needs to be done to stop “capitalistic culture” from taking over the country, a South Korean broadcaster Yonhap news agency said.

Rodong Sinmum, the official newspaper of the North Korean government published an article expressing concern about young North Koreans increasingly embracing western fashion trends.

“We must be wary of even the slightest sign of the capitalist lifestyle and fight to get rid of them,” the article said. The new fashion rules are part of the regime’s crackdown on “anti-socialist behaviour”.

The communist regime has reportedly outlawed all but 15 “non-socialist” haircuts and has instead issued an order on “proper” hairstyles, the newspaper said.

As well as mullets, spiky and dyed hair are no longer authorised according to documents published by the Socialist Patriotic Youth League and seen by Rodong Sinmum. Members of the state-run youth organisation often act as the nation’s “fashion police” and their duties include stopping people from wearing clothes which look too “foreign”.

Skinny jeans, nose and lip piercings as well as branded T-shirts are also forbidden, according to Metro.

Mnangagwa Swearing In Supreme Court Judges Today

LUKE MALABA
LUKE MALABA
Luke Malaba

Emmerson Mnangagwa is today expected to swear in six judges of the Supreme Court from the High Court bench who will be expected to preside over the government’s appeal against a ruling by the lower court nullifying the extension of Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s term of office.

The judges to be sworn in include Judge President George Chiweshe and Justices Alphas Chitakunye, Samuel Kudya, Felistas Chatukuta, Joseph Musakwa and Hlekani Mwayera.

The move is seen as a ploy by Mnangagwa to use the carrot and stick strategy on judges to secure a favourable judgment on Malaba’s appeal.

The swearing in will also take place a day before High Court judge Justice Tawanda Chitapi hears an appeal by Chamunorwa Chingwe interdicting the Judicial Service Commission, Mnangagwa and Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi from appointing Supreme Court judges.

In his application, Chingwe, who is represented by the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum, sought a relief that the respondents in the matter should adhere to section 180(4) of the Constitution before the appointment of the Supreme Court judges to enable persons who are not sitting judges of other courts to be considered for such appointments.

“The second respondent (Mnangagwa) recently appointed five judges of the Supreme Court to the Constitutional Court and in the process created at least five vacancies to the Supreme Court,” Chingwe stated.

“I am also aware of a former judge of the Supreme Court, who was also dismissed and in the process creating an additional vacancy there. Therefore, I have a well-grounded apprehension that the respondents are in the process of appointing candidates for the Supreme Court to the exclusion of a whole class of persons who qualify for such appointment.”

He argued that there was no hurry to appoint Supreme Court judges as the country is endowed with capable acting judges sitting in the court.

“If any appointment is made prior to the granting of either the interim relief I seek or the final relief, I believe I have also made out a case that such would not render this matter fait accompli (presumably irreversible) and the appointments will be null and void, with the court being entitled to set them aside on these papers. There is, however, no warrant for the court to allow a clear illegality to proceed without being arrested.”

Justice Chitapi will hear the matter tomorrow at 1pm after directing parties to file their pleadings yesterday afternoon.

But Mnangagwa is proceeding to appoint the judges before Justice Chitapi rules on Chingwe’s application.

Most of the High Court judges were not cited when Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum executive director Musa Kika won an order to stop the extension of Malaba’s term of office by five years.

Mnangagwa’s move has raised suspicion that he wants his preferred bench to deal with the Malaba case.

Malaba’s matter has nearly paralysed the country’s judicial system as he wants to have his term extended based on Constitutional Amendment No 2 Act.

However, the High Court led by Justice Happias Zhou last month ruled that the extension of the term of office of the country’s top judge by five years was illegal. Malaba’s term of office ended a fortnight ago after the High Court ruled that he had ceased to be the country’s top judicial officer on May 15, the day he turned 70.

Justice Zhou ruled that the recent constitutional amendments did not apply to Malaba.

Last week, Malaba resumed his duties on the belief that the High Court ruling had been suspended by an appeal filed by Attorney-General Prince Machaya and Ziyambi.

However, Kika, who challenged the extension of Malaba’s term in the initial case, disputed that an appeal against a declarator suspended the operation of a judgment. He then asked the courts to find Malaba in contempt and to jail him for six months.

Malaba filed his response on Tuesday, saying he legally resumed his duties following the appeal filed at the Supreme Court by Ziyambi and Machaya against the initial ruling. The Chief Justice said Kika failed to interpret the law, adding that the rights lawyers’ application was not based on a good cause as the process that led to his appointment by Mnangagwa was not set aside. -Newsday

Recalled Mayor Storms Into Meeting

Tinashe Kambarami

Chaos unfolded at Bulawayo’s Full Council Meeting Wednesday afternoon when former Ward 3 Councillor, Tinashe Kambarami turned up to take his position as deputy mayor after a Supreme Court ruling reinstated him.

However, the Supreme Court ruling was said to be ‘moot’ as Kambarami was recalled by his party the MDC-T.

Kambarami believes otherwise, arguing the recall is null and void as it happened after the city council had suspended him.

The drama started when Bulawayo mayor, Councillor Solomon Mguni arrived and said there was an “intruder” in the meeting.

“There is a misnomer, I think there’s an intruder in the house. Chamber Secretary, may you ask the colleague to leave the council,” he said while Kambarami interjected and claimed the council knew of the recent Supreme Court judgment.

In October 2019, MDC directed Bulawayo mayor Solomon Mguni to reinstate Kambarami despite a High Court ruling that his election was an illegality.

Yesterday, Kambarami reportedly verbally abused council officials who advised him to leave council chambers.

He said council should reinstate him as per the Supreme Court ruling, sparking commotion as security personnel ejected him.

Kambarami said Supreme Court judge Justice Nicholas Mathonsi ruled that he should be reinstated after his removal was set aside by the High Court.

“You want to touch me — touch me, we are going to fight. You want to fight me, you have been given a directive and you have lost. You must reinstate me,” Kambarami shouted at council security personnel before his ejection.

MDC Alliance Bulawayo provincial spokesperson Swithern Chirowodza said Kambarami had approached authorities demanding reinstatement.

Town clerk Christopher Dube, mayor Mguni and his deputy Mlandu Ncube were not reachable for comment. Newsday/CITE

We Are Not Anti-People – Chitungwiza Mayor

Chitungwiza Mayor statement:

Council has noted with great concern an outcry caused by a press statement issued yesterday (June 1, 2021) by the Acting Town Clerk, Mrs Evangelista Machona warning residents against operating businesses along Council and State Roads servitudes in Chitungwiza.

As Council, we believe in the sanctity of human life as is enshrined in our National Constitution and the Holy Bible.

It was not the intention of Council to cause alarm and despondency through the press statement.

Council is alive to the plight of residents surviving on informal trade and small-to-medium scale enterprises who need safe working stations.

In that regard Council will always strive to provide informal traders safe working spaces that do not expose them to danger.

Your attention is also drawn to the fact that Council does not operate in isolation, but works in conjunction with other Government departments.

State-roads fall under central Government through the Department of Roads in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure Development.

Council is not anti-people, but always seeks to engage informal traders to identify safe spaces for them to conduct their businesses.

Residents should be assured that it is not the intention of Council to disturb the means of survival of informal traders.

Therefore Council shall continue on a path of engagement and consultation with stakeholders on all matters of mutual interest.

Our view is that the informal sector must be organized while Council is supposed to be an enabler creating a conducive environment for those in the informal sector.

Top Lawyer Shoots Self

A prominent Bulawayo lawyer and managing partner at Webb, Low and Barry law firm, Norman Pattison, who allegedly committed suicide Tuesday afternoon was found with a gun in his hand, a gun wound on his head, police have confirmed.

Pattison committed suicide yesterday afternoon at his Bradfield home.

He was 64 years old.

Bulawayo Police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“We received a case of sudden death by shooting which is investigated as suspected suicide case,” said Inspector Ncube.

He said the information received was that the deceased was not feeling well and he was staying with his wife who left him around 10 o’clock in the morning in bed but alive and having spoken to him.

“When she returned around 1300 hours, she found him lifeless in a pool of blood and we received the report and we attended,” said the police spokesperson.

“He had a gunshot wound and he was holding on to a revolver with four rounds and one cartridge.”

Inspector Ncube said “his finger was at the firing pin which we call the trigger,” adding the body was taken for post-mortem.

“As opposed to the fact that it was at a business centre, it was at a residential area; he passed on at his residential place.”

Inspector Ncube urged people to seek counselling when they have something worrying them.

“It is imperative that people should share their griefs and happiness. Should one have something worrying her or him, it is advisable to approach relatives, police or counsellors than taking your own life,” he said.

Auxillia Opens Zimbabwe’s First All Women Prison

First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa yesterday officially opened Zimbabwe’s first female open prison in Marondera, a development described as a milestone for the country in terms of improving the conditions of female inmates.

The opening ceremony…Auxillia Mnangagwa

Presiding over the ground-breaking ceremony, Mai Mnangagwa hailed the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS) for modernising its prisons.

“I give credit to the government of Zimbabwe for approving the establishment of the female open prison. It is meant to meet the special needs of female inmates as well as serving as a vehicle for their rehabilitation, reintegration and empowerment to enhance their livelihoods after imprisonment,” said who is also the Zimbabwe Female Open Prison Foundation Trust patron.

She continued saying:

“ZPCS has moved from the punitive way to a correctional thrust, a correctional approach, a dismissal from punishment. This signifies the observance of rights of inmates as well as empowering them with knowledge and life skills which are focused on helping them prepare for a decent life upon discharge,” she said.

The open prison system allows prisoners to complete their sentences with minimal supervision in a fenced environment, and are often not locked up in cells. They can also take up employment while serving their terms.

Zimbabwe approved the concept of an prison open system in 1996 with the late former President Canaan Banana being the first inmate to occupy the Connemara Open Prison in Kwekwe in 2000.

The Marondera Open Prison was funded by well-wishers, among them politicians and corporates.

ZPCS Commissioner-General Moses Chihobvu said the new facility needed more assistance.

“To those who are yet to join hands with us, I also appeal to you to provoke your thoughts to play your part and make a difference in the lives of this disadvantaged group. Indeed together we can realise their potential and assist them to desist from their criminal behaviours,” Chihobvu said.

He said there were about 20 000 inmates across the country’s prisons, of which only 500 were females. -Newsday

No Infighting In MDC Alliance- SG Hwende

Chalton Hwende

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance Secretary General Hon Charlton Hwende has dismissed talk of bickering and infighting in the popular movement.

Hon Hwende has refuted claims by a State run daily paper that there is chaos in the MDC Alliance.

Zanu PF is desperate to soil the MDC Alliance’s reputation, according to Hon Hwende.

PANICKING ZANU PF IN PROPAGANDA OVERDRIVE

The MDC-Alliance notes with concern ZANU PF’s continued abuse of state media for its propaganda drive. In the Herald yesterday, they published a mischievous article through Fungisai Kwaramba projecting a false image of chaos and infighting within the People’s Party.

We are aware that the falsehoods are driven by panic in the ZANU PF regime, unsettled by the unity, resilience and fighting spirit within the People’s Party in particular by the success of our Agenda 2021 Program launched by the People’s President Nelson Chamisa at a time when the regime thought of writing the people’s movement’s epitaph.

The People’s Party has withered the unrelenting onslaught from ZANU PF and its surrogates which was aimed at permanently annihilating the People’s Party.

The protracted onslaught on the People’s Party in the past 24 months includes state engineered rebellion and split of the party, illegal recalls of its MPs and councillors, the hostile takeover of the party’s headquarters, the withholding of funds due to the party under the Political Party Finances Act and the systematic arrest and imprisonment of its party members.

Instead of weakening the People’s Party these coordinated attacks have in fact strengthened the party which is now more united and determined to win Zimbabwe for change.

The People’s Party is united behind its President Advocate Nelson Chamisa and focused on the broader objective of winning Zimbabwe for change. For the first time in many years the party has successfully extinguished the fires of State sponsored divisions to focus on the common agenda whose vision and strategy is driven by the People’s President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

Under the leadership of the People’s President Nelson Chamisa the party has successfully established new branches and strengthened existing party structures for its grassroots membership across the country.

The party’s rural mobilisation and recruitment programme is gaining momentum. This has caused panic and despondency within ZANU PF.

The Zimbabwe Agenda 2021 which seeks to bring Zimbabweans together under Citizens Convergence for Change has been a resounding success following overwhelming response from citizens in both rural and urban areas. Citizens across the country are converging under the common agenda of resisting authoritarian consolidation and demanding a new government.

Currently the party through its Elections Directorate has launched a voter registration campaign whose ultimate objective is to register and garner 6 million votes for the People’s Party in the 2023 general elections.

To circumvent the media blackout and negative propaganda against the People’s Party by state media, the party through its Communications Department has launched its own radio station Change Radio and will soon be launching its own TV station and re-launching its newspaper The Changing Times. The party has also put in place measures to amplify its presence on social media and all digital platforms. We are not leaving anything to chance.

Noting these bold strides, the ZANU PF regime is now resorting to cheap propaganda to create non-existent divisions and imaginary chaos in the MDC Alliance.

The MDC Alliance leadership remains united and focused on winning Zimbabwe for change under the leadership of President Nelson Chamisa.

In his address the MP dismissed the court order he vehemently instructed the 52 Gutsaruzhinji villagers to leave their land to unknown destination.

The 52 Gutsaruzhinji were left homeless in June 2020; six women gave birth under a tree along the Mkwasine irrigation canal where these families stay for over eight months till the high court order which gives them power to return back to their land.

Despite the court order their MP had to instruct Zimbabwe National Water Authority (ZINWA) not to reconnect water trying to make life hard for them. Before the conflict the families used to cultivate all year round using the Mkwasine irrigation canal nearby. MACRAD is greatly shocked by the behaviour of the MP, councillor, assistant district coordinator and the police for failing to respect the rights of the Gutsaruzhinji families. Since the conflict in June 2020 the district coordinator and his assistant never set their foot to Gutsaruzhinji and these families never get social welfare support despite their situation.

The families harvested nothing from the previous season as the conflict was still underway. Currently the families are surviving on sugarcane on a daily basis. The families are also denied access to health services at Nyangambe clinic but the MP, council and assistant district coordinator are unable to resolve these critical issues. MACRAD is going to continue engaging the relevant stakeholders involved so that the matter will be addressed without violating other people’s rights.

Despite the court order their MP had to instruct Zimbabwe National Water Authority ZINWA not to reconnect water to these families. Before the conflict these families used to cultivate their farms all year round using the Mkwasine irrigation canal nearby. Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

The baby boy’s body, suspected to have been flushed in a toilet, popped out of a sewage pond.

“I can confirm that the police are investigating a case of terminating pregnancy where on 29 May, a dead infant was discovered by residents in a sewer at Lobengula Primary School. Investigations over the matter are still in progress and awaiting post-mortem,” said Insp Ncube.

He appealed to members of the public who might have any information on the case to come forward.

MDC Alliance Dismisses State Media “Lies About Infighting In The Party”

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance Secretary General Hon Charlton Hwende has dismissed talk of bickering and infighting in the popular movement.

Hon Hwende has refuted claims by a State run daily paper that there is chaos in the MDC Alliance.

Zanu PF is desperate to soil the MDC Alliance’s reputation, according to Hon Hwende.

See statement below:

2 June 2021

                                                  PRESS STATEMENT

Zanu PF MP Ignores High Court Order, Continues To Terrorize Chiredzi Villagers

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF MP for Chiredzi North, Roy Bhila briefly abducted a villager in Chiredzi, accusing him of disrespecting his orders.

Bila is terrorising villagers in his constituency.

The MP wants to evict the villagers despite the fact that they have a protection order from the High Court.

Below is a position paper compiled by MACRAD Trust on the harassment of Chiredzi villagers by the Zanu PF politician.

ALERT: CHIREDZI NORTH MP ROY BHILLA CONTINUE TERRORISING VULNERABLE GUTSARUZHINJI FAMILIES

Dear Partner

Chiredzi North Member of parliament honourable Roy Bhila, ward 23 Councillor Mr Douglas Mutovo, Chiredzi District assistant district coordinator Mr Machokele, Superintendent Chaunoita from Chiredzi Police and Zanu PF Chiredzi DCC chairperson Mrs F Mabhiza terrorised vulnerable Gutsaruzhinji families despite their high court victory in December 2020.

Thursday 27 May 2021, MP for Chiredzi with his delegation named above visited the Gutsaruzhinji for a dialogue for the first time since after the High court victory for the Gutsaruzhinji families in December 2021.

During the meeting Honourable Bhilla ordered the Gutsaruzhinji families not to irrigate their crops using the Mkwasine irrigation canal as there are not the permanent residents of that area.

The outspoken MP dismissed the high court order which gives the Gutsaruzhinji power to return back to their land. In his address he dismissed the high court order and ordered the 52 Gutsaruzhinji villagers to leave the land to an unknown destination.

Honourable Roy Bhila ordered the arrest of Peter Kavele and drove away with him in the back of the assistant district coordinator Mr Machokele’s vehicle.

Peter was being accused for disrespecting the MP during his address. The Honourable member did not give Gutsaruzhinji families time to ask their question. Peter was later dropped off 7km away from his home. The Member of Parliament, assistant district coordinator, police and Zanu-Pf structures are supporting the Nyangambe families to violently evict the 52 Gutsaruzhinji villagers from the land to pave way for sugarcane plots along the Mkwasine irrigation canal.

The MP is sponsoring violence, in June 11 2020 a woman and a six month child was kidnapped, property, food and buildings were destroyed by the Nyangambe family. The matter was reported to Mkwasine police station and the accused were released and since then the police are yet to serve the victims with the court date.

About Smokers And COVID-19

Panicky Zanu PF In Propaganda Overdrive

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance Secretary General Hon Charlton Hwende has dismissed talk of bickering and infighting in the popular movement.

Hon Hwende has refuted claims by a State run daily paper that there is chaos in the MDC Alliance.

Zanu PF is desperate to soil the MDC Alliance’s reputation, according to Hon Hwende.

See statement below:

2 June 2021

                                                  PRESS STATEMENT

Mnangagwa Gimmick To Use Nehanda Statue To Pacify Jobless Youths Will Not Work…

NEHANDA STATUE TO PACIFY THE ALIENATED, EXCLUDED AND MARGINALIZED YOUTH, PROVIDE TWO MILLION JOBS PROMISED BY ZANU PF AND AS ICING FOR THE CAKE, EFFECT LIFTING OF SANCTIONS.

By Valerie Karimakwenda MDC Alliance Youth Assembly Organising Secretary UK and Ireland Assembly

Nehanda was a selfless individual whose life she sacrificed for freedom of her people and their subsequent liberation.

She paid the ultimate sacrifice, such as the burden of leadership against tyranny and oppression. It thus is not tribute nor honorary respect for Zanu pf to immortalize the fearless icon, Nehanda.

It rather is sacrilege and Nehanda must be turning in her grave, for her name to be associated with rapist, thieves and sadistic killers which is Zanu pf. What Nehanda stands for is exactly an antithesis to Zanu pf evil and self-serving philosophy. This raises thus a crucial point about the intention of Zanu pf, despite its futility, just like preceding Zanu pf intentions, designs and strategies meant for realization of a one party state. Exposing the chicken logic intention is thus the focus of this article.

If you are a cotton farmer, got groceries for your cotton deliveries last year, or yet to get the unappreciative payment I the form of groceries, how would an immortalized Nehanda appreciate your investments? Or assuming you are a teacher in Hoyo, Mash Central, remunerated with a salary not reflective of the inflationary and volatile environment, how would that improve your life, the statue that is?

A snake bites you in Dande, venomous, will you reach the hospital on time, given the lack of ambulances? Even if you reach hospital in record time, are there any guarantees that anti-venom will be available and at your disposal? Will the taxpayers fly you to a military hospital in Beijing?

What is the utility of these questions? They serve to highlight the point that Nehanda would have appreciated being immortalized by a government that is legitimate, governing with the consensus of the people and embodying their popular will. She would very much have had liked a government immortalizing her to be sensitive to the needs of their people, prioritizing their welfare of paramountcy proportions.

Zanu pf is neither legitimate, nor does it govern with people’s consensus. Its illegitimacy had to be decided in a captured court overshadowed by a pliant and sycophantic Malaba. So why would Zanu pf take upon itself to immortalize the liberation icon, Nehanda? What is there to gain? Except perpetually guaranteed misery and Zanu pf signature suffering? That is for the sieged Zimbabwean. For Zanu pf, and its clients, the story is entirely different. This is to be taken in the environmental context Zanu pf has begot.

The statue immortalizing Nehanda is a means to a degenerate end for Zanu pf, part of its futile strategy. This is a futile strategy engineered to augment political longevity and survival of Zanu pf so that it can perpetually plunder and pillage people’s wealth.

Zanu pf would thus have futile strategies to address symptoms instead of deep seated problems which it caused by its aspirations of a one party state. These futile aspirations of Zanu pf for a one party state are the causal factors that compelled Nehanda to stand up against tyranny, and to forfeit her life in the fight for freedom and liberation.

It is comforting however unpleasant that her prophecy of hr bones rising up against tyranny and oppression is coming to pass, if one were to consider personalities like the nonpartisan and independent Erica Ndewera, the uncowering and fierce Mamombe. These are the kind of people whose calibre Nehanda would have liked to play a critical role in immortalizing her. Her modern inspired warriors in the face of Zanu pf injustice.

Diversion, what would otherwise be known as deception in military and intelligence circles is the utility of the Nehanda statue. Diversion from what? This is a crucial question whose answer is consequential of a eureka moment.

When you have victims of the destructive cyclone Idai still living in tents, months after the cyclone, sadistic Zanu pf prioritized a statue of a dead woman who would have preferred that the manpower behind the statue building be directed to Manicaland where the cyclone devastated, as well as the material, money used to source the material. But Zanu pf thought otherwise. There was no utility in that. Utility that would give Zanu pf an opportunity of grandstanding.

Grandstanding amidst a sea of poverty compounded by a humanitarian cluster mess. Apparently all is well for Zanu pf, so is everywhere else in Zimbabwe. This is not what Nehanda would think or what the generality of suffering Zimbabweans think.

The diversion or rather the deception mentioned above has crucial utility of serving as blinkers reinforcement on what Zanu pf assumes is an apathetic, misinformed population.

The reinforcement of blinkers maintained by a repressed, centralized media is to keep the people from awakening after realizing that the power Zanu pf illegitimately is retaining, without their consensus, they can recover it from Zanu pf, and consequently loan it the tranquil opposition, sensitive to the welfare of the people, which is of herculean paramountcy. Tranquil transition into power, legitimately, for Zanu pf is an existential crisis.

The opposition gaining the leavers of power with the consent of the people, endowed with popular will is an existential crisis for Zanu pf because it means a prompt return to constitutionalism, a democratized society bulwarked with rule of law, accelerated devolution of power and a promotion of a culture of accountability and transparency, with demilitarization of state institutions and the military returning to barracks. The existential threat against and targeting Zanu pf manifests in the restoration of the rule of law, which will compel Zanu pf to be transparent about the people’s plundered and pillaged wealth, while being accountable for the gross and atrocious human and property rights violations. This is what Zanu pf is trying to avoid, by resorting to futile deterrent measures such as the Nehanda statue against such uncertain developments for Zanu pf.

In Zimbabwean culture, there is a saying that whatever flies will eventually lands and that nothing last forever. This has been proven true many times.

This attitude and nation tearing entitlement of Zanu pf was once characteristic of Smith and his Unilateral Declaration of Independence government, and preceding governments, but where are they now? They flew, and now are landed, never to fly again.

As the anthem of the nature of these articles rest on, that being the futility of Zanu pf attempts to stop, only succeeding to delay the inevitable, they too will land, the opposition will tranquilly gain power, and restore order to the chaos engineered and initiated by Zanu pf ending Zanu pf bloody and tight fisted reign of terror.

Gunshot Wound Discovered On Late Prominent Byo Lawyer

By A Correspondent- A prominent Bulawayo lawyer who allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday afternoon was found with a gun in his hand and a gunshot wound on his head, police have confirmed.

Norman Pattison, a managing partner at Webb, Low and Barry law firm, allegedly committed suicide yesterday afternoon at his Bradfield home. He was 64 years old.

Bulawayo Police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the development. He said:

We received a case of sudden death by shooting which is investigated as a suspected suicide case.

Insp Ncube said the information received was that the deceased was not feeling well and he was staying with his wife.

The wife left him around 10 o’clock in the morning in bed but alive and having spoken to him.

Said Insp Ncube:

When she returned around 1300 hours, she found him lifeless in a pool of blood and we received the report and we attended.

He had a gunshot wound and he was holding on to a revolver with four rounds and one cartridge.

… his finger was at the firing pin which we call the trigger.

As opposed to the fact that it was at a business centre, it was at a residential area; he passed on at his residential place.

Insp Ncube said the body was taken for post-mortem. He urged people to seek counselling when they have something worrying them.

“Stop The Greed”; ZCTU Lashes Out At CZI

The Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) has lashed out at the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) for calling for the suspension of Statutory Instrument 127 of 2021.

ZCTU said CZI is not a victim of a bad policy and its call for the suspension of the SI is motivated by greed as it has been colluding with the government to exploit workers and consumers.

In a statement, the workers’ representative body called for social dialogue, saying business should not be allowed to dictate what must happen. ZCTU said:

The call by [the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries] for immediate suspension of SI 127 without a clear call for an equitable economic policy aimed at addressing the mismatch between RTGS salaries and prices pegged in USD black market rates is irresponsible and motivated by greed.

While it is true that SI 127 has caused serious troubles in the market, these are just symptoms of deeper economic inequalities obtaining in the country.

Businesses and government have been colluding to exploit workers and now is the time to correct this.

We reiterate our position that businesses are not victims but accomplices in exploiting workers and consumers. Therefore businesses must not be allowed to dictate what must happen

We need a new social contract that is a product of inclusive social dialogue.

The government last week gazetted SI 127 of 2021 which compels business to peg prices of goods and services in line with the official exchange rate.

The new regulations penalise those found on the wrong side of the law including businesses refusing to transact in the local dollar.

Meanwhile, CZI has called for the suspension of SI 127 of 2021 to allow for dialogue between government and business.

Warriors Striker Prince Dube Extends Contract

Prince Dube

Warriors striker Prince Dube has extended his contract with Tanzanian club Azam by two years.

Azam announced Dube’s contract extension on Tuesday and declared that they had no intentions of selling the striker anytime soon. The club said in a statement:

We are excited to enter a new two-year contract with our Zimbabwe international striker Prince Dube. That contract will make Dube continue inside the Azam Complex until 2024.

Dube, whom we signed this season, has been our key player so far and is our leading scorer in the Mainland League with 14 goals, and apart from that, he has managed 17 goals for the team in all competitions, with the other three coming in the FA Cup.

Fear those liars outside there, Dube is going nowhere, he is here at Azam Complex.

Highlanders sold Dube to Azam in August 2020 for a reported US$50 000 fee and inserted a clause in the deal that entitles them to 30 per cent of the amount the Tanzanian club sells him for.

Tanzanian premiership champions Simba SC were reportedly interested in the 23-year-old Zimbabwean international following his goal-scoring streak for the “Ice-cream makers”.

Azam sit third on the league table with 60 points with four games left while Simba are left with nine games and lead the pack with 64 points.-statemedia

Abused Woman Sobs In Court

By A Correspondent- A woman sobbed in the dock as she narrated how her husband has been physically and verbally abusing her in front of their children.

Kealebuha Matibela from Old Magwegwe suburb in Bulawayo has had no peace since 2005 when her husband Edward Ncube married her.

He would accuse her of petty issues and after that he would bash her.

Ncube would not give her money for the upkeep of the children.

Seeing that Ncube was an absent husband because he was failing to give her money for the upkeep of their children, Matibela would search his pockets during the night when Ncube was asleep and take money and buy food.

But her abusive husband would pummel her for that and would even hurl insults at her.

Matibela has been going through a rough patch in her marriage for close to 21 years and has pulled all stops to save her shaky marriage, but her efforts have come to nothing.

She has engaged her aunt in a bid to talk to her husband, but she failed and even her husband’s brother’s efforts came to naught.

Matibela had to move out of the house to rent in Tshabalala suburb. But her estranged husband would follow her and hit her while accusing her of deserting him with his children.

Seeing that her aunt and her husband’s relatives had failed to talk to her husband, Matibela approached the civil court for intervention.

“I’m applying for a protection order against my husband Edward Ncube, he is very abusive. He is in the habit of beating me in the presence of our children whenever we have an argument. He does not give me money for the upkeep of our children. Last week I bought groceries with the money that he had given me for safe keeping.

“He got angry and beat me infront of the children. I then went to rent somewhere, he followed me and beat me and insulted the children. He is also threatening to kill me,” she said in between sobs.

The presiding magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube granted Matibela the protection order against her husband.

Edward was ordered not to physically and verbally abuse his estranged wife. He was also ordered not to visit her at her place until their differences are resolved.

Couple Fight Over Assets

By A Correspondent- Divorce is one of the most difficult chapters that people may encounter in their lives, and it can get much more complicated when estranged couples fail to agree to split assets fairly.

A Bulawayo woman is in a horrible situation after her estranged husband threatened to expose explosive and private details of their failed marriage to the media if she didn’t remove a vehicle and house from their divorce list of assets.

Sitshengisiwe Ndhlovu nee Ncube from Pumula East claimed her estranged husband Khumbulani Ndhlovu was trying to blackmail her after she filed for divorce at the Bulawayo High Court.

The aggrieved Sitshengisiwe, a supplies clerk at the National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) last week rushed to the Bulawayo Civil Court to slap her estranged husband, a trainee engineman also at the NRZ with a protection order so that he should not reveal her unsavoury shenanigans.

“I am the applicant in this matter. The respondent is Khumbulani Ndhlovu. We got married in terms of the Marriages Act Chapter 5:11 in 2009. We separated in 2019 and I filed for divorce in April 2021 and it’s still pending at the (Bulawayo) High Court.

“The respondent has been threatening me concerning the proposed sharing of property in the divorce summons that I served him. He is insisting that if I don’t instruct my lawyers to remove the vehicle and house from the list of assets, he will tarnish my image by engaging journalists to defame me,” complained Sitshengisiwe.

She said her husband had also threatened to embarrass her at work.

“He has also threatened to come to my workplace to embarrass me. He has also threatened to burn any property that is going to be awarded to me.

“I am now emotionally and psychologically disturbed as a result of his threats. I also fear that he could physically abuse me because he has always been physically abusive during the course of our marriage,” she said.
Khumbulani, however, disputed his estranged wife’s accusations.

“I have never assaulted her or done anything wrong to her. From her application it’s clear that she is just trying to harass me. I can’t be barred from NRZ premises because that is also where I’m working as a student,” he said.

Sitshengisiwe’s request was dismissed by the magistrate Nkosinomusa Ncube for lack of merit.

Harare central business district and its feeder roads resemble a traffic jungle not only during peak hours but even during “normal” hours as some motorists create imaginary their and fourth lanes.

Posting on microblogging site Twitter, the local authority those caught doing so will be prosecuted.

It said:

Civilians not allowed to control traffic. Law will take its course against such behaviour.

The statement by Harare City Council was received with anger, with Dhara Blessed Mhlanga saying, “When those who are not doing their job have it taken away from them. Happy to tweet from the comfort of their offices. So heartless and heartbreaking. So what’s the crime – haya.”

Twitter user shonaghmwa challenged Council to make sure that all traffic lights are working at all times rather than tweeting. “You should be tweeting that you making sure that every traffic light is working & assigning police to intersections that get busier and would like to thank those that were assisting and that you widening roads…”

Gango Guy said, “I support government initiatives but you should acknowledge kuti those boys helped motorists when you couldn’t. You should have apologized for not being able to do this before. Then thank the civilians that stepped up. And finally notified us of your intentions. We look fwd to seeing u.”

Shylet Maganga said if it were not for civilian traffic controllers, traffic would hardly move at intersections.

“Why do civilians have to control traffic? Will civilians control traffic when responsible authorities are there? Without the help of civilians, you can spend the whole night at an intersection in Zimbabwe. Think before you post?”, she asked.

Simba said: “Misoro yenyu yaka zara manyoka. Street kids have kept order while you are busy munching ratepayers money, with the little bond cash they get they invested in bibs and whistles. What have you done? Just fix the traffic lights not chase the civilians helping you.”

“Threats Of Bloodbath Against Chitungwiza Residents Suicidal”

By Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala- I have seen a statement released by Chitungwiza Municipality signed by one, Evangelista Machona, threatening violence and bloodbath against our people in Chitungwiza who are involved in lawful business as stupid, uninformed and scandalous.

Chitungwiza Municipality, through underqualified, corrupt and overzealous bureaucracy which acts as agents of central government have not been providing us, the residents of Chitungwiza with service delivery. We are aware that elected Councillors have been rendered useless by the bureaucracy they are asked to report to.

This strange execution of duties against the Operative law, governing local governance has been taking place at Chitungwiza Municipality for a long long time and we have been closely watching.

Giving 72 hours ultimatum, to business persons who have been the heart and soul of providing household needs to residents without recourse is dangerous. The fun part of the statement from Chitungwiza Municipality is its accompanied thread of loss of life as if they are talking about the life of wildlife.

What we want to know is whether there is a full Council resolution to the threats of bloodshed or it originates from bureaucratic elements being fed same by central government.

Evangelista Machona and those who have send her, should know that we don’t take lightly threats to kill our people. Threatening loss of life cannot go unnoticed. Openly declaring murder against our people will never be tolerated.

The people of Chitungwiza will organize themselves into cells to deck death threats. We are waiting for the Municipality’s threats of loss of life with serious preparedness to protect our lives.

We are demanding a full Council resolution to the same. Pontificating without following due process can not be tolerated.

We the people of Chitungwiza want to enjoy our peace and tranquility without threats to our lives.

“My Stay In Office Is Legal”: Chief Justice Luke Malaba

By A Correspondent- Chief Justice Luke Malaba has asked the High Court to throw out an application by a constitutional law activist for his arrest on contempt of court charges, insisting that his stay in office was legal.

Malaba’s term of office as chief justice ended a fortnight ago after the High Court ruled that he had ceased to be the country’s top judicial officer on May 15, the day he turned 70 and that a recent constitutional amendment allowing the President to extend his reign did not apply to him.

Last week, Malaba resumed his duties on the belief that the High Court ruling had been suspended by an appeal filed by Attorney-General Prince Machaya and Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi.

However, Musa Kika, who challenged the extension of Malaba’s term in the initial case, disputed that an appeal against a declarator suspended the operation of a judgment and has asked the High Court to find him in contempt and jail him for six months.

The case is set to be heard tomorrow before High Court judges Justices Webster Chinamhora, Amy Tsanga and Sylvia Chirawu-Mugomba.

Yesterday, Malaba filed his response saying he legally resumed his duties as the top judge following the appeal filed at the Supreme Court by Ziyambi and Machaya against the initial ruling.

“Consequent upon the filing of the appeals, I am advised that regardless of by whom the appeals were noted, the legal effect thereof was to suspend the operation of the two orders relied upon by the applicant (Kika) in this matter,” Malaba said.

“I, therefore, legally resumed my duties as the Chief Justice of Zimbabwe following the noting of appeal by the Minister of Justice … and the Attorney-General on the basis of the interpretation of the law to the effect that the noting of an appeal suspends an order granted by the court, not only for the two appellants but for the world at large.

“The applicant has taken a different view of the legality of my return to office, and seeks an order against me for contempt of this court alleging that I deliberately violated an order of the court while ignoring the facts set out above and the possible conflicting legal positions that can arise on the facts.”

He said the granting of the order of contempt would be presumptive and a miscarriage of justice.

“I deny that the country has an acting Chief Justice. The learned Deputy Chief Justice (Elizabeth Gwaunza) acted as Chief Justice in accordance with the law during the time there was no appeal against the judgment and thereafter, at a time when I was out of office,” Malaba argued.

“The acting capacity ceases upon resumption of duty by the incumbent. I thus deny that my resumption of duty was and continues to be in defiance of this court. I deny, further, that I have undermined and continue to undermine the authority of the court. I have not put the Judiciary into disrepute as alleged.”

He said Kika failed to interpret the law and argued that his application was not based on a good cause as the process that led to his appointment by President Emmerson Mnangagwa was not set aside.

Malaba’s case has gripped the country, and former Cabinet minister in the late former President Robert Mugabe’s government, Jonathan Moyo, claimed on Twitter yesterday that Judicial Service Commission (JSC) secretary Walter Chikwana had arm-twisted judges to hear the Malaba contempt of court case.

“JSC secretary Walter Chikwana approached a judge of the High Court allocated to hear the contempt of court charges against Justice Luke Malaba, to influence other judges on the panel to rule in favour of Luke Malaba.

“This is a judicial scandal and the Judicial Service Commission must investigate JSC secretary Walter Chikwana and the judge concerned. The judge must be exposed and he must recuse himself from the case. Justice Francis Bere was investigated and removed from the bench for a less serious offence involving trying to influence a lawyer.”

Chikwana could not be reached for comment.

Meanwhile, Young Lawyers Association of Zimbabwe and war veteran Frederick Mutanda have filed an urgent chamber application at the High Court seeking an order barring Malaba from executing duties of Chief Justice until finalisation of his case.

“An order granted on 15 May remains in full force and effect notwithstanding the appeals noted against it,” the applicants said through their lawyers, Honey & Blanckenberg.-Newsday

“MDC A Violence A Constant Threat To Be Stopped Once For All”- Devil Quoting Bible For His Devilish Purposes

By Patrick Guramatunhu- “Time and again many have inked articles articulating how the MDC-Alliance is wired in violence, with the streak running so deep that removing it simply means an end to the political outfit that was formed to push the whiteman’s agenda,” wrote Fungi Kwaramba, in The Herald.

“That of course cannot stop us today to pause and reflect on the damage these pseudo democrats have brought to the country’s body politic.

“Just last week the MDC-A yobs were on each other throats, in a self-disembowelling exercise that simply demonstrates to the world and yonder that this political outfit, with no clear policy definition, direction and gravitas is now gravitating towards the end.”

Kwaramba is a known Zanu PF apologist, and this article was but a prologue to the coming wanton Zanu PF violence.

There is no deny that there are violent thugs in the MDC family and the party’s democratic credentials leave a lot to be desired. Still the violence in MDC is nothing compared to that in Zanu PF. Worst of all, Zanu PF has captured and corrupted state institutions like the judiciary, Police, Army and CIO making them a Zanu PF department in all but name. And so the Zanu PF inspired lawlessness and violence often involve state institutions, they have been institutionalised, and therefore near impossible to stamp out.

Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies made it crystal clear that the bush war would continue if the party lost the 1980 elections. The party kept a large contingent of its freedom fighters out of the Assembly Points, contrary to the Lancaster House Agreement, to spread the stern warning.

The people voted to end the war but in doing so allowed Zanu PF to not only get into power but go on and impose a de facto one-party dictatorship and absolute power. The threat of Zanu PF instigated lawlessness and violence has hung over our head like the Sword of Damocles.

Mnangagwa’s 2017 “Zimbabwe is open for business!” mantra has failed to revive the country’s economy. The flood of investors has never materialised because investors are a savvy and shrewd lot; they saw the lie behind the claim the November 2017 coup as a transformative event. Zimbabwe remained a pariah state after the coup or be it under new dictator. Investors do not do business in a pariah state.

So, the economic meltdown before the coup has only got worse. The corona virus pandemic has dragged the economic situation even deeper into the abyss. The economy has all but collapsed, unemployment has soared to 90%, basic services such as education and health care have collapsed and 49% of our people now live in abject poverty. It is not surprising the nation is on edge, the people are desperate for meaningful political change and an end to 41 years and counting of corrupt and tyrannical Zanu PF misrule.

Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies’ response to demands for democratic reform and meaningful change is to scale-up the violence. And so the party is blaming MDC A violence to justify its own use of violence!

“In the MDC-A, we have an organisation that is a constant threat to the prevailing peace, when youths in the MDC-A, obviously at the behest of their godless leaders, are in a disconcerting habit of championing acts of terror that threaten the people, there is need to put a stop to this, once and for all,” argued Fungi Kwaramba.

How sickening is that! The Devil quoting the Bible for his devilish purpose.

Then the devil *took Him along into the holy city and had Him stand on the pinnacle of the temple, 6 and he *said to Him, “If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down; for it is written:

‘He will give His angels orders concerning You’;

and

‘On their hands they will lift You up,

So that You do not strike Your foot against a stone.’”

Jesus said to him, “On the other hand, it is written: ‘You shall not put the Lord your God to the test.’”

Matthew 4: 5 to 7.

There is a mountain of evidence that Zanu PF’s 40 years of corrupt and tyrannical rule has been a complete disaster for the nation and the people’s desperation for change is completely justified. However, after 40 years of enjoying absolute power Zanu PF thugs have become addicted to it, they have captured all the state institutions and will use them to resist the people’s demands for change.

Zimbabwe had the golden opportunity to implement the democratic reforms and end the Zanu PF dictatorship during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends failed to get even one reform implemented and the nation has paid dearly for it ever since.

Ending the Zanu PF dictatorship is not mission impossible. It will require radical thinking, focus and vision so the next chance to end the dictatorship is not wasted. By continuing to follow blindly the corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders, we are shows that we have learnt nothing from the past and are therefore not yet ready for democratic change.
