Our Task Is To Save Nation’s Pride- Mapeza

New Warriors coach Norman Mapeza has admitted that the players will need some counselling to boost their confidence ahead of the back-to-back World Cup Qualifiers against Ghana next month.

Mapeza takes over the reins when the national team is trying to recover from a disappointing start to the campaign. The boys played to a goalless draw at home against South Africa before losing 1-0 in Ethiopia.

Speaking on ZBC TV on Saturday, Mapeza said: “I will need to talk to the boys and forget what happened in the past. We played a draw against South Africa and lost in Ethiopia, and it’s all part of the game.

“But it’s a new game, and they (the team) only need to wait and put maximum effort in whatever we are going to do.

“It’s (playing Ghana) not going to be easy considering the time frame, so we are going to talk with them to try and save the pride of the nation.”

The Warriors will travel to Ghana on the 6th of October before returning to Harare for the second leg four days later.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

COVID Hit Broke Tobacco Firms To Be De-Registered

Tobacco yields at auction floors

The Tobacco Industry Marketing Board (TIMB) has threatened to deregister tobacco companies that renege on paying for services rendered.
TIMB chief executive Meanwell Gudu said this while responding to questions regarding the ongoing impasse between Voedsel Tobacco Company and transporters over non-payment for services.

The company has been shifting goalposts regarding payment of transporters who ferried tobacco from farmers to the company during this year’s selling season which started in March.

‘‘Our call to both transporters and farmers is to report non-payment issues on time during the season so that the TIMB can effectively intervene and make mitigation measures for everyone concerned,” Gudu said.

“It is more effective during the selling season as the company can be suspended from conducting sales.”

Gudu said TIMB had since intervened to ensure the 15 transporters who were owed over US$60 000 were paid.

More transporters are now coming out in the open, claiming they had not been paid their dues by Voedsel.

Tobacco Farmers Union president Believe Tevera implored TIMB to “delist” Voedsel for not paying transporters.

“TIMB must revoke Voedsel’s licence as it has proved beyond any doubt that it is incapacitated to contract farmers and make payments on time,” Tevera said.

“Tobacco is a cash crop and seasonal. We expect payments to be done urgently. We cannot allow a company to continue contracting farmers in Zimbabwe when it is obvious it can’t pay, compromising the lives of more than a thousand farmers and transporters, including those who directly or indirectly depend on them.”

Tobacco Farmers and Transporters Union Mashonaland Central chairperson Stayme Manyika said a lot of transporters and farmers had not been paid by Voedsel.

‘‘We have some transporters who are also tobacco farmers, but were not paid a single cent by Voedsel,” Manyika said.

“They are disgruntled that the company failed to pay them on time. The transporters need assistance because the company has failed to pay despite promising several times.”

The affected farmers started ferrying tobacco in April.

They are from Mt Darwin, Dotito, Guruve, Chakoma, and Mvurwi among other areas. Transporters from Hurungwe, Mvurwi and Rusape, among others, demonstrated on Monday and held a vigil at the company’s Karoi depot.

Mnangagwa Blocks Chadzamira Prosecution

Emmerson Mnangagwa is blocking attempts to bring to book the minister of State for Masvingo, Ezra Chadzamira (pictured), who was arrested by investigators from the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) on allegations of corruptly allocating land to his proxies in the province, but the anti-corruption body has not given up on the case, The NewsHawks reported.

Chadzamira was briefly arrested by Zacc investigators last Monday but prosecutors at Masvingo magistrates’ court declined to arraign him and advised the anti-corruption watchdog that the case will proceed by way of summons.

This was after Chadzamira sought Mnangagwa’s help after Zacc swooped in on him following investigations.

Officials in Masvingo say Mnangagwa’s intervention proves that his anti-corruption fight is not sincere. Mnangagwa’s stance is in sharp contrast to Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema’s “zero tolerance” to corruption, where he publicly declared that he will never interfere with the operations of the Anti-Corruption Commission of Zambia in its duties.

Hichilema made the announcement as he opened the first session of the 13th national assembly. Zambia’s anti-corruption body on Wednesday welcomed Hichilema’s statement. The body also revealed that 87 corruption cases had been reported since Zambia’s election last month, 55 of which related to politically exposed persons.

Chadzamira is Mnangagwa’s political ally but has been facing pressure from a faction aligned to Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga which wants him arrested for corruption. There is also a push for him to be suspended from the party on corruption allegations.

In January 2020 Chadzamira as the chairperson of the provincial lands committee instructed Chiredzi district lands committee through a phone call to stop convening meetings. Despite the ban, several people continued to receive land with the approval of the provincial leadership in the Lowveld district, a move which angered locals and war veterans.

A high-powered delegation of war veterans from Chiredzi visited Chiwenga’s office to lodge the complaint against Chadzamira, a move which resulted in the former military commander ordering the minister of state to reverse the allocations.

Beneficiaries were allocated plots under a project developed by Tongaat Hullet for government in Hippo Valley. Chiwenga cited corruption and segregation of the Chiredzi people in the project as reasons for the reversal.

A senior Zanu-PF official in Masvingo told The NewsHawks that were it was not for Mnangwaga, Chadzamira could have been locked up. He said Chadzamira was one of Mnangagwa’s strongest allies in the province from the time Mugabe was toppled through a coup in November 2017.

“These fights against Chadzamira in the province are not yet over. The faction aligned to Chiwenga is still pushing for his arrest and they are pushing for his arrest and suspension from government. The team is not resting on its quest to have this man arrested. This faction is now gaining ground in Masvingo, a province which is always used by Zanu-PF leaders as a battleground to declare their interests” said the official. A senior government official in Masvingo told The NewsHawks that the case against Chadzamira is more political than criminal since what he is accused of is similar to what other government officials are doing. – NewsHawks

Chadzamira Arrest A Result Of Zanu PF Factional Battles

Auxillia Takes San Children To Vic Falls

There is truly a first time for everything, but flying in a plane and touring the Majestic Victoria Falls is a lifetime experience for children from the previously marginalised San community in Makhulela area, Thwayithwayi Village under Bulilima District.

Indeed, Christmas has come early for them courtesy of First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa who has honoured her promise to take them on a week-long holiday to Victoria Falls with exciting packages that include air travel, boat cruises, game drives and sleeping in hotels.

Amai Mnangagwa visited the community last month with her Nhanga/Gota/Ixhiba programme where she promised to take the children on holiday as part of her drive to integrate previously marginalised communities with the rest of the country.

The children are indeed having the time of their lives as they had never set foot outside their community, neither had they visited a big city.

The San community in Zimbabwe is one of the indigenous tribes that have had a rather belated encounter with modernisation and globalisation.

Their transition from a hunting and gathering economy to an agro-capitalist economy has been slow, hence the First Lady’s involvement in assisting the community to set foot in the development train.

Her first visit to the area was in 2018 where, through her Angel of Hope Foundation, she introduced nutrition gardens in the community and assisted with the provision of modern houses and sanitary facilities.

Under her mantra of not leaving anyone behind, the First Lady has been working closely with the community and involving the community in awareness campaigns against Covid-19, cancer and other ailments.

The girls and boys on the trip are aged between 11 and 15 and drawn from ECD to Grade Five.

Their ages tell a lot about how children in the community delay going to school.

They are accompanied by their village head Mrs Matjena Ncube and two other village elders Mrs Agnes Bhule and Mrs Samkeliso Dube.

They arrived in Bulawayo on Thursday morning and put up at Motsamai Lodge where they had their meals before embarking on a Heritage Corridor Tour of the city which took them to the Natural History Museum, St Mary’s Cathedral Basilica and Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo statue in the CBD.

Their tour guide was Zimbabwe Tourism Authority’s marketing executive and former Miss Zimbabwe Bongani Dhlakama.

At each venue, they were given a detailed tour of what was there, like at the St Mary’s Basilica Cathedral, Archbishop Alex Thomas explained to them when it was built and how significant the place is to the history of Zimbabwe, Africa and the Roman Catholic Church.

They landed at Victoria Falls International Airport on Friday morning. When an Air Zimbabwe flight landed at 9.20AM, first to come out were the timidly looking group of boys and girls, with school bags on their backs.

Because of fear of the unknown, they kept close to each other as they walked to the domestic terminal for Covid-19 procedures that included sanitising and temperature checks.

A shuttle bus was waiting to take them to a hotel where they checked in, had their breakfast before going on an afternoon game drive.

Along the way, they were excited to see baboons which they could not differentiate from monkeys as they said they were no baboons in Bulilima.

Saturday was also packed with a cocktail of activities. The group toured the Rainforest and Victoria Falls Bridge among other activities.

They were also taken to the Fuller Forest on Sunday where they had a tour of the forest and lion encounter.

Everything was new to them and they were enjoying.

After touring the Fuller Forest, they were taken back to their hotel for lunch where they enjoyed processed food using fork and knife, something they had never done.

The hotel staff was so welcoming and taught them how to use the cutlery. It was an experience of a lifetime.

Thanking the mother of the nation, Mrs Ncube said she was excited to be in Bulawayo and Victoria Falls for the first time.

“I am very happy to have seen Victoria Falls for the first time in my life. I want to thank the First Lady for what she has done for us as a community. This shows she loves all her children countrywide including us the San community.

She does not select her children and we are so grateful especially for affording our children such an experience” she said.

Ms Ncube said the children were now inspired to better their lives.

“Imagine people from the San community in an airplane, it’s unbelievable. We saw the Bulawayo city, now we are in Victoria Falls where we visited many places and everything was new for us. What the First Lady has done, has opened the eyes of these young children so that they can see how life on the other side is like,” she said.

One of the children, Nhlanhla Tshuma (13) a Grade Two pupil at Makhulela Primary School said the trip was an eye opener.

He said together with others they enjoyed a whole lot of packages which are largely for the well-heeled.

Girls and Boys from the San Community and their Makulela village head Mrs Matjena Ncube tour the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo statue, National Art Gallery in Bulawayo, Railway Museum and other places on their maiden tour of Bulawayo from their Makulela Village in Plumtree courtesy of the First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa

“I cannot believe this is true. At times I pinch myself just to check whether I am not daydreaming. I am so excited to be part of this trip. I had neither boarded a bus nor an aeroplane. What the First Lady has done for me will forever remain on my mind. When I go back home I will share information about what I have seen with my parents and siblings.

We are enjoying good food and sleeping in hotels like kings. This is just exciting,” he said.

Another, Tholakele Ncube (16) also a pupil at Makhulela Primary School who is in Grade Five added that it was a great experience being in Bulawayo and Victoria Falls.

He said at first he could not believe his eyes and was glad because the First Lady had honoured her promise.

“I am overjoyed with what the First Lady has done for us. We are enjoying ourselves and learning new things everyday. We are so grateful to Amai for what she has done. They will see me at school because I have lots of stories to share,” she said.

When they return home, the children will share with their colleagues, families and the community various things they would have learnt on the educative trip.

Their dream came true and tomorrow (today) is another day, more activities are in store for them.- Chronicle

Chaos Hits ZANU Ahead Of Polls

Patrick Chinamasa

The ZANU PF restructuring exercise has exposed deep-rooted factionalism as well as infighting fuelled by jostling for positions ahead of the party’s provincial elections.

The party is set to conduct provincial elections next month to elect provincial executives.

The fights have divided party members, with some coalescing around President Emmerson Mnangagwa while others are allegedly backing his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga.

Party structures held meetings across provinces at the weekend where they endorsed Mnangagwa as the party’s candidate for the 2023 general elections.

Mnangagwa is today set to preside over a politburo meeting following the weekend inter-district and provincial co-ordinating committee meetings.

A petition by about 6 000 party members from Mashonaland East alleged serious factional fights and unscrupulous behaviour by party members. It painted a picture of a party in shambles.

The petition, addressed to acting provincial chairperson Michael Madanha, comes as the ruling party embark on elections tomorrow to choose district executive members.

“This petition is against the compilation of factional cell membership registers and the imposition of executive committees at cell, branch and district levels in Murewa South constituency,” the petition read in part.

“This is being done contrary to instructions from the (acting) national political commissar (Patrick Chinamasa) to restructure the party in a transparent and democratic manner, starting with compilation of new cell membership registers.”

Another fight in Murewa South is over the vacant parliamentary seat following the death of former Transport minister Joel Biggie Matiza. The jostling for the position has caused tension in the district.

“Cell registers inclusive of the cell executive committees were compiled secretly along factional lines by a few individuals who were appointed as district executive committee members during the run up to the 2018 elections.

“Most of the elected district executive committee members were removed and replaced by campaign committee members of the late MP comrade JB Matiza,” the petition read in part.

“These are the de facto district executive committees implementing shenanigans to exclude from cell registers and executive committees all those party members they perceive as rivals.”

Madanha told a provincial co-ordinating committee (PCC) meeting in Marondera on Saturday that there was need for party members to follow stipulated guidelines during the ongoing restructuring exercise.

In Manicaland, politburo member Simbarashe Mumbengegwi confirmed divisions in the province and in an attempt to douse the fires, warned members against unethical conduct.

“We don’t need mudslinging in the party. If we are in elections this does not mean that we are in a war. We have realised some people have started campaigns against the politburo decision not to campaign and that is gross indiscipline,” he said.

“Some are using social media to attack each other and that is not good. Let’s have discipline in the party and that is critical.”

Three candidates are vying for the provincial chairmanship.

The incumbent, Mike Madiro is facing a challenge from Makoni district co-ordination committee chairperson Albert Nyakuedzwa and Chipinge South MP Enock Porusingazi.

Nyanga North MP Chido Sanyatwe is favourite to land the women’s league top job, but is facing challenge from the incumbent Happiness Nyakuedzwa.

Mnangagwa’s home province, Midlands, has also witnessed fierce battles involving a camp linked to State Security minister Owen Ncube and incumbent provincial chairman Daniel Mackenzie-Ncube.

The fight has reportedly turned tribal with a camp linked to Ncube describing Mackenzie-Ncube and his backers as “dissidents” and Zapu, invoking memories of the infamous 1980s Gukurahundi massacres that resulted in the death of over 20 000 people in the region.

“A lot is happening on the ground to ensure the chairman (Mackenzie-Ncube) pulls out of the race, but that has failed. The reality now is the two will face each other in the polls and the chairman will likely win it despite all attempts by the other camp,” a source said.

Adverts promoting Ncube have been circulating on social media, describing him as the man behind massive infrastructural development, including construction of base stations and roads in the province.

There are also allegations that machete gangs have resurfaced in the province to prop up the State security minister.

In Masvingo, a camp closely linked to the provincial chairperson Ezra Chadzamira has sensationally claimed that Chiwenga was behind a plot to arrest the Provincial Affairs minister to ensure that he does not retain the party provincial chairperson position.

There were claims in Mashonaland Central that there was an attempt on the life of aspiring provincial chairperson Lazarus Dokora.

Dokora is facing off against Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe for the chairmanship amid accusations and counter accusations of vote-buying. –Newsday

“Goblins” Torment Nurses

Nurses at Tsholotsho District Hospital in Matabeleland North province are reportedly being terrorised by suspected goblins which are allegedly stealing their food and underwear before dumping them in any of the rooms occupied by the victims.

The mysterious beings are also reportedly making strange noises at night and disturb couples whenever they want to be intimate. The strange happenings reportedly started last month are continuing.

There are also complaints from the victims that on some days they wake up after they felt that they were being pulled from their ears by those invisible things and this has prompted them to go to bed with their lights and radios turned on.

An official who requested anonymity told B-Metro that a spiritualist from Binga once came and conducted a cleansing ceremony to try to get to the bottom of the issue. Said the source:

A sangoma from Binga once came and conducted a cleansing ceremony but the torment only stopped for about a week before it started again.

The latest incident is that of a 10-year-old boy who was haunted by those mysterious creatures.

During the torment, the boy was crying while claiming that he was seeing a short and bold creature like a man.

Tsholotsho District Medical Officer Dr Mbonisi Nyathi confirmed having received reports of the strange happenings at the hospital. He said:

About last week only a single household that had three occupants were complaining about some funny things that were happening so we sent a team to inquire and among themselves, they thought of those things called goblins and they assured us that they will fix the problem within two days.

From what we heard, they fixed it and fortunately enough they (suspected goblins) were not terrorising other households except theirs.

So, the last time I heard is that they had resolved it in an internal manner and I don’t know how it stands as of now but I’m hoping that whatever it is be it games or goblins I’m just hoping that it doesn’t taint our name.- B-Metro

Faith Based Organisation Tears Into Weak Politicians

A Bulawayo-faith-based organisation, Habbakuk Trust has accused local politicians of being “politically weak” and unable to advance the devolution agenda in the region.

The new Constitution adopted in 2013 provides for the establishment of provincial councils in all provinces.

Under section 268 of the same Constitution, legislators are also supposed to sit in the provincial and metropolitan councils.

However, the government has been reluctant to comply with this clause of the Constitution.

Speaking during a virtual meeting on devolution of power in the country organised by political and civic society actors in Pumula constituency Friday, Habbakuk director Dumisani Nkomo accused the government of lacking the political will to implementing the devolution exercise “fearing of losing political power”.

“The government or the party that is in charge of government (Zanu-PF) fears that it is ceding political power to other political parties by fully implementing devolution,” said Nkomo.

The quality or caliber of some of our politicians is worrying. Few are engaged on the issue of devolution. This is one thing they could have focused on since 2018, for example insisting on a new Parliament for Bulawayo.”

Nkomo said there is a need for embracing devolution throughout the country.

“If devolution is seen as a national and not a Matabeleland issue alone it could work. For example, provinces that previously benefited from centralisation are no longer at the helm of power. The power has shifted to parts of Masvingo and parts of Midlands,” he noted.

Nkomo attributed the problem of not challenge the status quo to weak councillors whom he said do not understand the importance of devolution.

“We need to convince all provinces, even people in the system, that devolution works for them. Political actors must begin to take council elections seriously.

“Once we have weak councillors, devolution is also weakened. We should place emphasis on local government elections and field the best candidates there,” said Nkomo.

To date, there is no enabling act to operationalise devolution despite the government approving principles of the Provincial Councils and Administration (Amendment) Bill.

“ED Plotting To Announce Date”

Ladies and gentlemen the situation in our country has reached another level…,” said the late army General Sibusiso Moyo while addressing the nation during  the November 2017 sanitized coup which resulted in the ouster of former President Robert Mugabe.

The Zanu-PF factional fights between Generation 40 (G40) and Lacoste then, forced the situation to reach another level with the latter, which supported Emerson Mnangagwa, successfully ousting Mugabe through a military-backed take over. The emerging factions and ever-growing tension in Masvingo if not well managed is definitely leading to a situation more or less the same as November 2017.

Those who care not to remember the history of politics and factional fights will be quick to dismiss the possibility lest they are reminded of how Masvingo has been the mastermind of many successful political settlements in both the ruling party Zanu-PF and the biggest opposition,  Movement for Democratic Change (MDC).

Masvingo therefore plays a pivotal role in the political matrix of Zimbabwe. The late Mugabe knew this and that was the reason he employed the divide and rule tactics choosing the late Simon Muzenda as vice president ahead of Jonas Mudadirwa Zvobgo. Muzenda was docile and senile – he was more of a stooge, no wonder why he spent most of his time rehearsing poems like Nehanda Nyakasikana forgetting to develop the province or even his rural home in Gutu.

On the other hand, Zvobgo was ambitious, too vocal and more importantly the voice of reason for Masvingo Province. Because Mugabe had chosen incompetence and loyalty over reasoning, two serious factions then emerged from Masvingo, passed on from one political generation to another and ultimately resulted in his ouster in November 2017.

Political factions are a sign of illness in a party; we have seen this in Zanu-PF as early as the turn of the millennium when Dzikamai Mavhaire publicly demanded that Mugabe be relieved of his duties and go! Similarly, when Morgan Tsvangirai was chased away by Joubert Mudzumwe, Robson Mashiri and team at Masvingo Civic Centre in 2005 leading to the MDC’s split, the same year.

Thus Masvingo is the kingpin in the political matrix of any political party in Zimbabwe and whoever controls this province will eventually become the ultimate winner. Because of this reason every sensible politician would want to control Masvingo province and this is the battle between Mnangagwa and his deputy Constantine Chiwenga now. Though no one in Zanu-PF leadership would agree that there are factions in the party, the current developments in Masvingo bear testimony that there are factions threatening to tear apart the party.

Masvingo is so fond of factions and dirty politics that most of the time politicians are engaged in caucus meetings trying to find ways of out-manoeuvring each other. However, factionalism has been the great instrument of sophistry and chicanery in our politics thereby leaving our society very divided and warring factions wanting to devour each other.

Zanu-PF is going to have its elective congress in December next year where the party is expected to elect new national executive. The provinces are already preparing for their elections ahead of the congress, with all the leagues including the main, youth and women assemblies’ elections are expected to be held by this October latest, and this is according to reliable sources in Zanu-PF.

These sources said ED is ploting to announce this date soon so that he manages the party from further divisions.

However, it is the main wing elections that have exacerbated the formations of factions in the province. So far, there are four candidates that are said to be readying themselves to battle it out for the position of provincial chair.

The most interesting of the four, however is the battle between Ezra Chadzamira and Robson Mavhenyengwa. The two are current chair and vice chairperson of the province respectively. Chadzamira is fronting for a faction loyal to Mnangagwa while Mavhenyengwa is said to have shifted allegiance to Chiwenga. Sources within the ruling party revealed that there is now serious tension and that it is going to be dog eat dog come the elections.

“The activities that are happening in the province are very telling that we are heading for interesting times. Factions are being created; some are forging alliances while others are dividing as we prepare for the elections ahead of the congress next year. We now have two clear factions, one supporting President Mnangagwa and the other one backing VP Chiwenga,” said one Zanu-PF provincial member.

Four names have been thrown in the hat so far, and reliable sources have revealed to TellZim that all the four candidates are busy soliciting for votes and elections are expected to be conducted no later than October this year.  Of the four candidates two are said to be posing real threat and these are Chadzamira who is backing Mnangagwa and Mavhenyengwa allegedly supporting Chiwenga.

Ezra Ruvai Chadzamira

Chadzamira is the current Masvingo provincial chairperson who doubles as the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs. He is seeking re-election but is likely to face stiff competition from Mavhenyengwa who is from a rival faction. The other two candidates, Clemence Chiduwa and Rtd Major General Gibson Mashingaidze lack what it takes to compete for honours therefore talking about them is mere waste of time. Chadzamira was elected chairperson during the peak of G40 and Lacoste factional wars when he thwarted the G40s preferred candidate Rtd Colonel Mutero Masanganise in 2017.

Masanganise was Mugabe’s preferred candidate but Masvingo dumped him for Chadzamira sending a clear message that they were backing Mnangagwa for presidency. Masvingo made it clear that it will never be intimidated or coerced into voting someone they do not want.

At some point Chadzamira, Lovemore Matuke and other Lacoste faction members were publicly denounced and humiliated by Mugabe and the G40 cabal, but they remained resolute and determined. They fought tooth and nail with the G40 until they prevailed. President Mnangagwa rewarded Masvingo by appointing more than five ministers from the province including Chadzamira and Matuke in 2018. However, a lot has happened between 2018 and now to an extent that the once united Lacoste faction is now heavily divided with some shifting their allegiance from Mnangagwa to Chiwenga. Of course no one publicly admits to the existence of these factions in Zanu-PF just like during the period of G40 and Lacoste when both factions claimed loyalty to the then President.

Chadzamira therefore, has lost some cadres who backed him in 2017 but certainly he has also managed to forge new alliances as he has remained consistent in supporting Mnangagwa. Backing him so far is Matuke, Ministers Winston Chitando and Yeukai Simbanegavi, Women’s League chairlady Amai Mhlanga, Pupurai Togarepi, Masvingo, Chivi, Gutu and Zaka districts. He is also being backed by over 15 MPs in the province.

Chadzamira told TellZim in an interview that they are working tirelessly to ensure that the Mnangagwa and the party win resoundingly in 2023 general elections. He downplayed the issue of factionalism saying those who plan against Mnangagwa are planning to fail.

“President Mnangagwa has managed to resuscitate the economy; implemented a lot of developmental projects under devolution and unlocking investment for our country. He has managed to unite people regardless of political affiliations and because of his clear vision we are fully behind him. Those who are plotting against him are surely planning to fail,” said Chadzamira.

“Elections will come and go; after that we remain Zanu-PF so I don’t see the reason why fellow cdes are betraying the struggle by plotting against President Mnangagwa. I want to encourage the province to remain united and rally behind President Mnangagwa. For now we are concentrating on building the party until our leadership announces the dates for the elections,” Chadzamira added.

Reliable sources in the party said Chadzamira is still maintaining grip in the province as five districts, except Bikita and Chiredzi, are fully behind him.

Robson Mavhenyengwa

Mavhenyengwa is the current vice chair for the province. He was co-opted early this year replacing Allies Baloyi who was appointed Chiredzi RDC chief executive officer. There is no love lost between Chadzamira and Mavhenyengwa as the latter was an alleged G40 loyalist before Mnangagwa came into power. Mavenyengwa is said to have then crossed the floor to join Lacoste faction after his G40 fellows (Jeppy Jaboon, Walter Mzembi, Daniel Shumba and others) started to support Phiona Riekert to take over his constituency. Phiona had lots of resources and Mavhenyengwa opted to cross to Lacoste because of frustration. Fortunately for him, G40 lost the battle and Phiona was eroded, a development which saw Mavhenyengwa retaining Zaka North Constituency in 2018.

Mavhenyengwa was then co-opted to become vice chairperson following Baloyi’s resignation. However, checking his history of flip-flopping, it is not surprising that he now allegedly shifted allegiance to Chiwenga. He has since forged alliance with Gutu DCC chairperson Brian Munyoro and Gutu West MP John Paradza who is also vying for the youth league’s chairmanship. Munyoro called for a meeting in Gutu recently soliciting support for Mavhenyengwa and he is said to have managed to convince Paradza after dangling the youth league post.

Mavhenyengwa is also reported to have forged a holy alliance with Mwenezi West MP Priscilla Zindari-Moyo who is also eyeing to chair the women’s league. Amai Zindari–Moyo is the wife of Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) Director General Isaac Moyo. Mavhenyengwa being a former policeman seems to be getting all the support from anyone related to or with interests in the security sector.

However, Mavhenyengwa is facing challenges to fully penetrate Zaka district as he is clashing with the DCC chairperson Clemence Chiduwa who is also the MP for Zaka East. Chiduwa is alleged to have humiliated Mavhenyengwa at one of the meetings with the war veterans in the district when he publicly denounced Mavhenyengwa saying he was now selling out President Mnangagwa.

“Chiduwa openly said pasi naMavhenyengwa nekuti wakapandukira President Mnangagwa and that did not go well with the Zaka North MP. He asked Chiduwa to withdraw his words but he denied prompting Mavhenyengwa to take up the case to the Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting,” said a war vet from Zaka.

Mavhenyengwa is said to have demanded Chiduwa to apologise for his alleged utterances during a PCC meeting but sources said he refused and maintained that Mavhenyengwa had sold out the President.

Mavhenyengwa confirmed the development but vehemently denied being aligned to any faction. He said it boggled his mind how Chiduwa, whom he described as someone who came yesterday, would stoop so low that he thinks anyone who has interests to contest for any position in the province will be selling out.

“He (Chiduwa) told war vets that I have sold out simply because I am said to be interested in contesting for a particular position in the province. For your own information, I do not belong to any faction as they allege but I support our President and the party. I do not want to drag the names of our national leaders in these factional fights,” said Mavhenyengwa.

“We started supporting the President before he even joined the party and Chiduwa only came recently after 2018 elections. I am busy working for the party as a provincial member and my constituency so I expect him also to concentrate on working for the party as the district chair and his constituency. We stand guided by the party and the party has not announced yet so there is no need to talk about the elections for now,” Mavhenyengwa added.

Minister Davis Marapira is also believed to be supporting Mavhenyengwa because they do not relate very well with Chadzamira. Mavhenyengwa and Marapira are alleged to be covering a lot of ground in Zaka where they are reportedly undermining the authority of Chiduwa who is in charge of the district.

Clemence Chiduwa

Clemence Chiduwa is the MP for Zaka East and the deputy Minister of Finance and Economic Development. Chiduwa was elected MP during by-elections held in 2019 following the demise of Calisto Ringisai Gumbwanda. His Curriculum Vitae (CV) was initially rejected during the Zanu-PF primaries in 2018. However, he was later accepted and contested the by-elections.

Chiduwa is then believed to have used his strong links with Christopher Gwatidzo, the principal director in the Office of the President to get appointed as deputy minister of finance. Gwatidzo and Chiduwa are tight buddies and their friendship dates back to the time they were lecturers at the Midlands State University (MSU).

At a meeting allegedly held in Chivi and chaired by Josiah Hungwe, Chiduwa is said to have initially agreed to contest for the chairmanship and some sources in the party confirmed the development.

“Chiduwa is in the race; he called me recently and said if you see my name on the ballot paper for provincial chair elections please vote for me. I think he is new and untainted therefore stands a better chance to win the election. Of course others are sceptical saying he is new so he must give those more senior to him a chance,” said another party source.

However, considering that his friend Gwatidzo’s relationship with Mnangagwa has since soured and is no longer having the same influence as he used to have as before, Chiduwa is likely not going to contest for the chairmanship. It would be best for him to maintain the relationships and alliances he has in the province than to ruffle feathers.

Chiduwa however, allegedly made it clear that he was not interested in contesting for the chairmanship saying he is rallying behind Chadzamira and President Mnangagwa. He is reported to have said he will not be swayed into supporting anyone else who is not loyal to Mnangagwa.

Gibson Mashingaidze

Major General (Rtd) Gibson Mashingaidze from Bikita is also said to be interested and is being backed by his home district and Chiredzi. Sources also told TellZim that Mashingaidze is backed by Rtd Lt. Gen Engelbert Rugeje who also hails from Bikita. Mashingaidze appears to be a very sensible person, very quiet and well-disciplined former soldier. It is difficult to accuse him of any wrong doing. However, his biggest challenge is that he is a perennial loser having lost several elections before. Bikita district is generally weak and that is one reason only a single MP was appointed deputy minister since 1980.

His backers are also being accused of fighting the Lacoste faction especially the MPs in Chiredzi who were said to belong to the G40 cabal then. Their decision to support Mashingaidze is allegedly because they do not want to align themselves with a faction that is known to support Mnangagwa. Rugeje is also said to be bitter with Mnangagwa following his unceremonious dismissal from the position of national political commissar hence his decision to support a faction loyal to his former army boss Chiwenga.

Mashingaidze is more likely to withdraw his candidature towards elections because besides him there are no other candidates to fill other positions from his faction. Chances are very high that the Bikita team will eventually join the Mavhenyengwa faction.

Indications are that the contest will eventually be between Chadzamira and Mavhenyengwa.

Chadzamira and his Mnangagwa faction seem to be in control at the moment.

The rift between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga is said to be widening every day and whoever manages to control the provinces might strike gold at the party’s national elective congress in December next year. Let us wait and see.

When factionalism becomes hot, many supporters become spectators; they will sit in the stands and watch the factions fight. At the end they will choose, wanting to associate themselves with the winning team. We saw it during the G40 – Lacoste factional fight and we are going to see it again during these emerging factions. Let us watch and see how it goes!.- TellZ

Pasuwa’s Big Bullets Crash Out Of CAF Champions League

Zimbabwean tactician Kalisto Pasuwa’s Malawian side Nyasa Big Bullets have crashed out of the CAF Champions League after losing 1-3 (2-3) on aggregate, to Benni McCarthy’s AmaZulu in Lilongwe on Saturday.

Bullets went into the crunch encounter needing just a draw to progress to the second round after their impressive 1-0 in Durban in the first leg.

It was however the visitors who were dominant in the first half and they raced to a 2-0 lead, through a Bongi Ntuli’s quick-fire brace, the first of the two being a 4th minute penalty.

Ntuli netted his and Usuthu’s second in the 11th minute as McCarthy’s men got to a dream start in enemy territory.

2-0 it was at the half time interval.

Four minutes after the restart, Bullets pulled one back- Henry Kabichi’s well-taken free kick finding the back of the net, providing a glimmer of hope for the Malawians.

Siphelele Mthembu nailed the final nail on the Bullets coffin with the third goal in the 59th minute.

Bullets tried to fight back but the damage had already been done.

Our Mission Is To Save Nation’s Pride – Mapeza

Smelly Dube Scoops Top Business Award

By A Correspondent- Gweru businesswoman Smelly Dube scooped the outstanding business leader award at the inaugural Zimbabwe CEOs Network awards ceremony held in Harare last week.

The Zimbabwe CEO’s Network is an exclusive CEO peer group organisation that provides opportunities for learning and development through peer group meetings facilitated by experienced CEO group leaders.

Dube was awarded for her outstanding work in driving River Valley Properties, a property development company based in Gweru, which stood the test of Covid-19 disruptions.

The company has been supporting many vulnerable families during lockdowns, giving food handouts as well as renovation of clinics that were used as Covid-19 isolation centres.

The River Valley chief executive officer was honoured barely a day after the company chairman Mncedisi Dube scooped the strategic leader of the year award at the Megafest awards ceremony held in Harare on Wednesday.

Dube said she was excited in her recognition and vowed to continue to work hard to ensure the success of her property company and in supporting vulnerable groups.

“It is a blessing from God to continue winning the awards. It is a clear testimony that we are doing a good job on the ground and we will continue to do so,” Dube said.

The Zimbabwe CEOs Network, in recognition of Dube’s work, played a 15-minute video showing the property development works done by River Valley Properties.

The company is rehabilitating roads in the Woodlands and Hertfordshire suburbs in Gweru as well as complementing Gweru City Council in making drains ahead of the rainy season so as to curb the problem of flooding that hit the city last year.-statemedia

Drama At Funeral As Officers Fight Over Infidelity

By A Correspondent- There was drama in Kanyemba on Tuesday when two police officers who are boyfriend and girlfriend fought in uniform and tore each other’s uniforms in an infidelity brawl.

Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi could not be reached for comment.

Killer Filabusi Father Back In The Dock

By A Correspondent- A Filabusi villager, who was in 2017 sentenced to 12 months in jail for assaulting his two children, is back in the dock facing fresh charges of killing one of them with a knobkerrie.

Nkazimulo Nkomo (36) of Thandabantu Village in Filabusi was not asked to plead to murder charges when he appeared before Filabusi Resident magistrate Abednico Diliza Ndebele last week.

Nkomo was remanded in custody to September 23 and advised to apply to the High Court for bail.

Prosecutor Shepherd Moyo said on September 9, Nkomo arrived at his home and found his son Khaliphile and his brother (ages not stated) seated in his bedroom.

He accused his sons of leaving his hat in the open before he allegedly ordered them to lie down and beating them with a knobkerrie.

Khaliphile died on the spot. Neighbours who saw him assaulting his children reported the case to the police.

“Zanu PF Are Cowards, Zimbabwe Does Not Belong To Their Mothers!” – Whilst They Enjoy Absolute Power, It Does

By Patrick Guramatunhu- “Good pple there is need to teach ZANU PF a big lesson once and for all in 2023. They talk a lot of nonsense as if this country belongs to their mothers. They have got arrogance of a coward.

There must be mass demonstration of our sovereign by voting them out in our millions in 2023…

Haa vanhu vazviramba. When I was leaving the High Court today I met a group of pple who greeted me by the gate and said “mudhara rambai makashinga. Nyangwe Mnangagwa akatipa US$1 million each hatichada.”

These are bold declarations I get everywhere I go.

Mnangagwa will be kicked out,” Honourable Job Sikhala, MDC A MP, wrote on Twitter.

Politics dzana Job Sikhala, Nelson Chamisa, Tendai Biti nerudende rweMDC, ibhora rokudhibhi. Munotamba zura rese pasina agohwesa nokuti hapana magende! (MDC politics is like amateur football at its chaotic worst; where you can play all day without ever scoring a goal because there are no set teams and no set goals!)

After 22 years, 5 of which in the GNU, MDC leaders cannot name even one democratic change they have accomplished in all those years and yet still call themselves movement for democratic change.

Whilst the individual MDC leaders have had a chance to enjoy the good life of the ruling elite on the gravy train, especially during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when many climbed up the ladder to be ministers. The MDC leaders loved their GNU lives so much they did not want to upset their host, Robert Mugabe, by implement the democratic reforms. Not even one token reform was implemented.

In 2008 Morgan Tsvangirai garnered 73% of the popular vote, according to Mugabe’s own Freudian slip of the tongue and Mnangagwa and his Joint Operation Command (JOC) junta stepped in and ordered ZEC not to announce the results. The results were announce six weeks later and Tsvangirai’s vote count had been whittled down to 47%, enough to force a run-off.

JOC launched military style Operation “Mavhotera papi!” (Whom did you vote for!) whose primary objective was to punish the people of Zimbabwe for daring to reject Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF in the March 2008 vote. And the people were punished!

“What was accomplished by the bullet cannot be undone with the ballot!” thundered Robert Mugabe, cheering along those who were destroying property, intimidating, beating, raping, abducting and over 500 were murdered in cold blood.

“Zanu PF has declared war on the people!” cried Tsvangirai as he announced his withdrawal from the run-off.

The primary reason for setting up the 2008 to 2013 GNU was to implement the democratic reforms to stop a repeat of the blatant cheating and wanton violence witnessed in 2008. Zanu PF has emerged out of the GNU with all its dictatorial powers untouched because MDC leaders took their eyes off the reforms agenda.

Mnangagwa and his cronies in the National Army arm of JOC flexed their dictatorial powers to ouster Robert Mugabe in the November 2017 military coup. Mugabe had his own supporters in the junta, the Police and CIO, but they were outgunned and outmanoeuvred.

Only the very naive and gullible believed that the 2018 elections would be free, fair and credible. Mnangagwa and his Junta were never going to stage a coup to seize power and then eight months later risk losing it in free election particularly when they still had the dictatorial powers to rig the elections. They are rigging the 2023 elections as we speak!

“There must be mass demonstration of our sovereign by voting them out in our millions in 2023!” says Sikhala. Well Zanu PF, for its part has denied 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote. Remember Mnangagwa supposedly won the 2018 elections with 2.4 million voters or 50.8% of the cast votes and so the diaspora vote is very significant indeed!

The truth is Zimbabwe is in this pathetic situation of trying to win rigged elections for no other reason other than the fact that MDC leaders are ashamed to demand the implementation of the democratic reforms to ensure free and fair elections because they will have to admit they wasted the golden opportunity to implement the reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU.

The overwhelming majority of the ordinary Zimbabweans have yet to figure it out that MDC leaders sold-out big time during the GNU by failing to implement even one reform. And so MDC leaders are taking full advantage of the naive and gullible public that reforms are not necessary.

Zanu PF is the chief beneficiary of holding these flawed elections because the party does not have to worry about implement the reforms and so continues to blatantly rig the elections. And by participating the people give the flawed process credibility and give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

Job Sikhala and the fellow opposition politicians are after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF gives away as bait to the opposition to participate. Zanu PF needs the participation to get legitimacy and the few gravy train seats are a small price to pay for it.

Of course, Job Sikhala, Nelson Chamisa and the rest in the opposition camp would love to to form the next government. They know that Zanu PF will never lose an elections in which they have carte blanche powers to rig.

Chamisa and company are banking on mass street protest, to protest the economic hardship, rigged elections anything, to propel them to State House. Meanwhile the opposition will be content with the few gravy train seats and all the other titbits the get from Zanu PF.

Zanu PF are not going to reform themselves out of office, the party has the carte blanche powers to rig elections and, of course, they will never give up these powers nor will they stop using them to retain power.

There is no doubt that the Zanu PF dictatorship will collapse one of these fine days, it is rotten to the core and MDC leaders should have delivered the coup de grace a long time ago if they had not been so corrupt and incompetent. Still, the Zanu PF dictatorship will end through violence, another military coup or street protest.

The demise of Zanu PF will not bring the democratic changes the nation has been dying for all these years; the new regime will only be keen to consolidate its own grip on power and so would be tempted to keep the dictatorial powers for itself.

What the people of Zimbabwe should need to do is to wake up to the political reality that they have nothing to win from participating in these flawed and illegal elections. The opposition are taunting the public to protest with claims of stolen elections when the opposition themselves are the one aiding and abetting Zanu PF to rig elections by failing to implement reforms even when it was in their power to do so.

The best course of action for the ordinary people is to put their foot down and demand the implementation of the democratic reforms before elections. Free elections is a right and not a privilege and so why should they have to participate in flawed and illegal elections especially after 41 years of rigged election.

Sangoma’s Son Drinks Paraffin After Mistaking It For Coke

By A Corresondent- A sangoma and maskandi singer Kholeka Dlamini was left devastated after her son drank paraffin at a spaza shop and became very sick.

The 38-year-old said on 4 September, her two-year-old son drank paraffin out of a Coke bottle, thinking it was his favourite soft drink.

She said her son had gone to buy chips at the shop when he found the bottles outside and drank from one. Kholeka said she believed the child drank at least a cup of paraffin. She said she realised what had happened when he vomited and she could smell the paraffin.

“He was even struggling to walk and I decided to take him to Mamelodi Day Hospital. He was admitted and discharged on Wednesday 8 September,” she said.

“The doctors said he drank a lot of paraffin and his lungs were affected. He has a rash on his skin and he is not healthy.”

Kholeka said she was advised by doctors to give him food with lots of iron like liver, red meat, vegetables and meat.

“My son is still weak. He is struggling to play with other kids. He loses balance every time he tried to walk,” she said.

“I’m very disappointed in the shop owner because he has not even come to my home to check how my son is doing. It looks like he doesn’t care.”

Kholeka said she wanted the shop owner to be arrested. She said when she tried to open a case with the police, cops refused to help her.

Her husband Mxolisi Xingile (44) said he was very angry.

“The shop owner is not showing any remorse. This was pure negligence and I want justice,” he said.

Mamelodi West police spokesman Captain Johannes Maheso said: “An inquiry into the matter has been registered and it will be investigated. The family will be updated on the outcome of the investigation.”

UK Returnee Invests Big In Chitungwiza

By A Correspondent- Businesswoman, Maureen Mandipaza, a United Kingdom returnee, has struck the right chord in the local retail sector with a state-of-the-art shopping mall and supermarket in Chitungwiza that was launched last weekend.

Together with her husband Don, the couple spectacularly launched their business in Harare’s dormitory town.

The highlight was when the couple introduced the Vintage Supermarket application, which can be used by Diasporians to buy groceries for their relatives back home.

Prominent television actor Kessia MC, who is popularly known as Muchaneta is a Vintage Supermarket brand ambassador. He captivated invited guests and residents with her jokes and rhumba dances.

Prominent Bulawayo-based businesswoman, Caroline Mashingaidze was the guest of honour.

Mandipaza told Standard Style on the sidelines of the launch that her vision came alive through support from residents of Chitungwiza.

“It has been an amazing moment, the shopping mall has 22 modern shops including 13 downstairs and our supermarket,” Mandipaza said.

“For those who want to rent, we have CCTV on site, wifi and a site manager.

In the past the businesswoman donated blankets and food to vulnerable residents and has built an orphanage for young children

It’s Nauseating! Zim Needs Democratic Reforms

By Patrick Guramatunhu- Zimbabwe is in this economic mess and political paralysis (both the ruling party and the opposition are corrupt, incompetent and clearly have no clue how to get the nation out of the mess and paralysis, all they care about is political power).

Sadly, for the country the ordinary people themselves don’t even know their left from right hand as regards what is going on. They look up to the country’s civic organisation for guidance only to get confusion, at best, otherwise poison.

“We urge the Second Republic to enact electoral reforms and reinstate by-elections to ensure a return to participatory democracy and that citizens are equally represented in council and Parliament,” said the Election Resource Centre (ERC).

“Despite promising to preside over a democratic government that respects the Constitution, rule of law, and tolerance, it is regrettable that four years after these utterances by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and 41 years after independence, Zimbabweans are underrepresented in Parliament and local government, with rampant human rights violations that were tenets of colonial rule under Ian Smith.”

Organisations like ERC are a waste of space and time and the nation would be better off if they never existed at all!

In the 41 years of Zimbabwe’s independence, the country has never ever held free, fair and credible elections. In the 1980 elections, Zanu PF bolded stated that the bush war would continue if the party lost the elections. Of course, the people voted to end the bush war.

After the 1980 elections, there were some wooly mammoth minded individuals who tried to down play Zanu PF threat, dismissing it as political banter. The fog in their heads clearly soon enough when Robert Mugabe launched the 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre that force the late Dr Joshua Nkomo to sign the December 1987 Zanu PF and PF Zapu Unity Accord and clear the way for the imposition of the de facto one-party dictatorship.

Zanu PF has ruled Zimbabwe all these last 41 years, except for the five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU when it shared power with MDC, precisely because the party has enjoyed carte blanche powers to rig elections. The 2008 elections have become the watershed elections in that Zanu PF blatantly cheated the March vote and used wanton violence to win the run-off that followed.

The whole international community, including SADC and the AU who had always turned a blind eye to Zanu PF rigged elections in the past, condemned the 2008 elections are a farce. SADC leaders forced Robert Mugabe to agree to the implementation of a raft of democratic reforms designed to restore the individual freedoms and rights and stop a repeat of the 2008 rigged elections.

The task of implementing the democratic reforms during the GNU was left to Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends. Sadly, they turned out to be corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent; they failed to implement even one token reform in five years. Not even one!

To be fair to SADC leaders, they did advise Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends not to participate in the 2013 elections without first implementing the reforms.

“In 2013 the Maputo Summit, in June 2013, before the elections, the Maputo Summit was all about having the elections postponed – the SADC summit. I went there,” Dr Ibbo Mandaza told Journalist Violet Gonda.

“I was there at the Summit and Mugabe pretended to agree to a postponement of the elections. If you recall, the postponement was based on the need to reform at least electoral laws.

“And after that Summit, Morgan Tsvangirai, Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, all of them were called to a separate meeting by the Heads of State of SADC in the absence of Mugabe, that same evening. And they were told; I was sitting there outside the room with Mac Maharaj; they were told ‘if you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done’.”

As we know Tsvangirai and company ignored the stern warning and participated in the 2013 elections. Zanu PF blatantly rigged the elections, as SADC leaders had rightly predicted.

If anyone thought the MDC and the rest of the country’s opposition camp had learned the lesson and would be demanding meaningful democratic reforms BEFORE the 2018 elections, that was not to be. Nelson Chamisa, as the candidate of the MDC A, plus 21 other opposition candidates contested the presidential race even thou ZEC had failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll.

Zanu PF went on to blatantly rig the 2018 elections too.

By participating in these flawed and illegal elections the opposition is giving vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

The 2013 and 2018 elections were a mockery of democracy and should be roundly condemned and ERC should be making it clear with no misunderstanding and equivocation that the next elections be they by-elections or the 2023 elections will be a waste of time if they went ahead with no meaningful reforms implemented.

“The ERC explicitly emphasises that calls for electoral reforms and the reinstatement of by-elections do not imply a push for regime change, but are key for true representative democracy,” ERC said.

This is nauseating!

The right to govern must be derived from the democratic wish of the people expressed in free, fair and credible elections and if the people’s democratic wish should mean regime change so be it. So why is ERC, an organisation supposedly fighting democratic rights and a meaningful say in the governance of one’s country, be ruling out regime change.

Regime change is not a dirty phrase as Zanu PF thugs have brainwashed many to believe. According to Zanu PF propaganda ordinary Zimbabweans are incapable of attain the political conscientiousness to desire Zanu PF regime change and so the party attributes all such desires to outside influence, the West. Of course, it is nonsense!

After 41 years of rigged elections the people of Zimbabwe must demand the implementation of the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections. If the democratic wish of the people is for regime change, they must have regime change and no apology for that!

Tragedy As Woman Dies In Tractor Accident

By A Correspondent- A 48 year old woman from Matobo district’s Nyongolo area in Kezi died after falling from a moving tractor.

Matabeleland South acting police spokesperson Sergeant Thandolwenkosi Moyo said Nothando Ncube was with another passenger in a tractor’s trailer when the accident happened.

“I can confirm that the tractor Massey Ferguson had two passengers, one of them, Ncube, fell off from a moving tractor and died on admission at Maphisa Hospital,” Moyo said.

“The driver of the tractor is Hlanganani Moyo (47) from Maphisa.”

He said Ncube sustained head injuries while the other passenger escaped unhurt.

Mwonzora Councilors Back First Lady

By A Correspondent- The MDC-T dominated Harare City Council has resolved to support first lady Auxilia Mnangagwa’s projects amid accusations that the Douglas Mwonzora-led outfit is abusing the local authority’s resources for political expediency.

A full council meeting last Tuesday endorsed a resolution of the education, health and housing committee of July 29, 2021 that paved the way for partnerships between the first lady and council.

The resolution said the City of Harare was already involved in Mnangagwa’s projects that included “(i) Nhanga/Gota/Ixhiba and Nharirire Yemusha.”

Council said partnering the first lady was part of its corporate social responsibility programme.

“That council approves in retrospect, the participation of council officials and further authorises participation in the forthcoming programmes being organised by the office of the first lady,” reads the minutes.

In justifying the council’s involvement, acting town clerk Mabhena Moyo said since 2004, the City of Harare used to work with various departments in among other things, removing children from the streets and placing them in the various homes with the hope of reuniting them with their families or relatives.

Moyo said Harare was supporting the first lady in the removal of street kids from the streets in the city to Chambuta Refugee Camp on the outskirts of Chiredzi.

Harare, the report said, will be open to future participation in philanthropic work by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife.

But the MDC Alliance said it was inappropriate for local authorities to use ratepayers’ money to support private initiatives by the first lady.

“We know she is working on a programme to do with street kids and using councils and mayors to pay for those services.

“We are against that. It is inappropriate and abuse of funds meant for service delivery at a time it is at its all-time low,” MDC Alliance secretary for local government Sessel Zvidzai said.

“Councils never budgeted to assist the first lady to do her job.

“At worst they should be getting the money from the Social Welfare ministry not to compromise services through those unnecessary costs.

“It is irresponsible and unnecessary and I think the people should just refuse to fund such activities away from their local authorities. It is unfair and it is bad.

“MDC Alliance councillors would not have allowed the inappropriate deployment of the people’s resources so the recalls are a choreograph to enable Zanu-PF to, without any checks or balances, enjoy more and more free space for corruption without anybody questioning.

“You can see that happening everywhere.

“Infrastructure is being done by connected people linked to the regime, roads the same is happening.”

Mwonzora’s party has recalled most of the councillors that support the Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance in Harare.

Only three councillors, including suspended mayor Jacob Mafume, belong to the MDC Alliance.

Ramaphosa Shocked By Zimbabwean Johannesburg Mayor’s Death

By A Correspondent-South Africa’s President, Cyril Ramaphosa, said he was shocked by the death of Johannesburg, Jolidee Matongo.

Matongo, died in a car accident on Saturday.
He was 46.

Matongo had earlier on Saturday accompanied Ramaphosa in Soweto, to campaign for the ANC ahead of this year’s municipal elections.

Saturday night, Ramaphosa said in a statement that the accident happened after the campaigning. Ramaphosa said:
It is hard to comprehend this tragedy, given the vitality and passion with which Mayor Matongo interacted with me and residents of Soweto so shortly before his death.
Nothing could prepare any of us for this sudden loss, which has deprived our nation’s economic centre of its second Executive Mayor in two months.

Matongo has been taken from us at a time when he was totally immersed in improving conditions and creating opportunities for all the people of Johannesburg and stakeholders in the metropolitan economy.
Like all of us, he was looking forward to the forthcoming election, and we saw in person today that he had put his heart and soul into mobilising the people of the city to make their voices heard on 1 November.
Matongo had been elected unopposed as Joburg mayor on 10 August this year, succeeding Geoff Makhubo, who died in July of COVID-19 complications.

41 Years After Independence, Zimbabwe Villagers Still Battling Colonial Era Kind Of Displacements

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | 41 years after independence, thousands of Zimbabwean villagers have woken up to find their entire land taken away by Chinese businessmen.

People in rural areas have been shocked, angered flabbergasted and deeply depressed by the freedom to destroy their livelihood and cultural bases given to the Chinese. Villages are being destroyed graves, defiled no consultation as people are reminded of the colonial horrors. It’s not only villages; sacred places and lives are being destroyed.

There is a vigorous debate on the environmental impact of China’s investment in Africa. Most of it occurs in the environmental advocacy community, which by its nature emphasizes the challenges, problems, and harmful impacts on the environment irrespective of the responsible country. China’s environmental record both at home and in Africa has been the subject of criticism, much of it deserved. With its own failure to observe environmental laws in its own country it is a joke to expect our all weather friends the Chinese to be alive to environment in a country far away from their country.

It is not only the environment we are looking at It is good labour practices which are usually ignored by environmental groups and the media.

The relations between Zimbabwe and China can be traced back to January 1979 during the war of liberation.
It started on the war front with ZANU led by Robert Mugabe quoting Beijing for arms after failing to get support from Soviet which was backing ZAPU led by Joshua Nkomo.
Formal diplomatic relations were established on the 18th of April 1980. The disagreement between Zimbabwe and the EU in 2003 led to capital flight and economic depression and this resulted in Zimbabwe being isolated from EU in form of targeted sanctions.
The relations between Zimbabwe and China deepened and culminated into Zimbabwe adopting a Look East Policy. This was the time when there was no where else to look as we were vilified as a nation. China came up at the time they were really wanted. It was the time when it was not fashionable to side with Zimbabwe that China stuck by us hence the all weather friend. China and Zimbabwe went on to expand bilateral and trade relations and offer priority to investors from the Asian continent. However China assumed the dominating position and the whole east became to mea China alone. Zimbabwe and China established strong economic ties which we believe to be equal and not master servant relationship.

In 2008 The late Vice President of Zimbabwe  Joseph Msika praised the Chinese government for its continued support in the face of economic sanctions imposed by Western nations .

From 2000 to 2012, approximately 128 Chinese official development finance projects were identified in Zimbabwe. It was all rosy and indeed a cherishable moment.
Water infrastructure and sewerage rehabilitation to the value of US$144m to Harare City Council was constructed.
The money  to rehabilitate aged water infrastructure and sewer systems was provided by China. The rehabilitation programme was expected to improve water availability and sewer treatment plants if it was not for corruption in the MDC A led Harare Council.

China constructed the state of the art new $98 million Zimbabwe National Defence College, constructed by Anhui Foreign and Economic Construction Company (AFECC) after a loan from the China Export and Import Bank, was officially opened.

The loan for the defence college is attracting 2% while its repayment period is 20 years.

This is considered a huge discount, particularly for Zimbabwe, at a time its perceived credit rating has been downgraded to zero status by multilateral lending institutions because of the external debt that was estimated to be over $8 billion. Indeed China lived to its word the National Defence College, a 3 year project was completed way ahead of schedule, and it became a symbol and physical manifestation of the Look East policy. The state-of-the-art villas, including a majestic stadium, all show the quality and value of the Chinese investments.

In all these wonderful projects being done by China problem was brewing, the Chinese did not train their citizens basic human respect.

The then Labour Minister Paurina Mupariwa branded Chinese business operations in Zimbabwe “the darkest side of capitalism perpetuated by communists. She said her party would urge Zimbabweans to boycott Chinese products in protest.

Zimbabwe saw an influx of Chinese businesses of all forms in Zimbabwe. This included Chinese coming to Zimbabwe to be lorry drivers, to cook and sale sadza. Instead of aiding development and growth of the economy, the Chinese brought nothing new except exploiting the locals & overshadowing them”.

Our all weather friends are systematically abusing Zimbabwean workers at a Chinese company there are offices black workers are not allowed to set foot. There is a very shocking pay discrepancies. The Chinese are paid ten times more than their Zimbabwean counterparts. Zimbabweans are treated like third class humanity by their Chinese employers.
Please have been put to the Zimbabwean Government to bring the matter to the attention of the Chinese government to encourage its nationals to abide by the laws of this country. Zimbabweans have been whipped shot or even killed by their Chinese employers who believe that they are more special. This behaviour has not stopped even to this day Chinese bosses behave like the incarnation of Cecil John Rhodes. The Look-East Policy has been put in place as an alternative to the West but our friends are given the whole body instead of just a hand.
Now the love given to our all weather friends has made them monsters and the loathing created should be manage now.
Zimbabweans are being deliberately removed from one form of colonialism and chained to another form of bondage.

People have been exposed to a cunning, ruthless and immoral slave master-the Chinese. The notion is that the conduct of most of the Chinese in Zimbabwe is unacceptable and the government must take action.

Chinese in Zimbabwe are flouting our employment laws. There are Zimbabwean workers abused in Chinese factories and mines and in most cases the Chinese brothers are let off the hook. Cases of summary dismissal without notice and without any compensation are rife and there is no recourse.
Female employees impregnated by their Chinese bosses and giving birth to Chinese babies after being coerced to have unprotected sex some actually rapped and the police bribed to silence.

Our own Zimbabweans are subjected to long working hours, very little pay, unsanitary working conditions in clear violation of Zimbabwe’s labor laws and clear disregard for workers’ rights. We have no record of a Chinese company which was ever hauled to a labour court for violating our labour laws.
The Chinese have shown clear disregards of our values.

There is a flagrant denial of compassionate leave to go and bury relatives due to customary and cultural differences.

The most painful and disrespectful insult by our all weather friends is when Workers are not even allowed to recognise any of the Zimbabwean holidays and are only allowed to recognise the Chinese Lunar New Year on 22nd January. Surely this is not the east we decided to look. We might be under sanctions but we are still covered in our respect and dignity. We are Zimbabweans.

The presence of the Chinese must be a benefit for both parties. Is such an arrangement a benefit for both parties one might ask.

We seem to do well- we get to consume products without producing them, and money for capital investment without having to save. The Chinese get to process those raw materials into products they don’t consume, but sell them for a fortune to the world. China’s capital investments, technology, skills and money to Zimbabwe are not earmarked for processing commodities, but to expedite the extraction of commodities at low cost. It is clear that our benefits are short lived. We must all remember that Commodity exports cannot lead to sustained economic growth as they are vulnerable to international prices which we don’t have control over. The challenge is to generate productive jobs and livelihoods for many people.Value addition has a higher potential for employment creation.

Now Zimbabweans in the depth of our Zimbabweaness are being evicted from their villages by the Chinese. China is not doing anything to promote value addition in Zimbabwe. It is spreading its ugly teeth in our base. Our villages.

As we write villagers in Uzumba, Mashonaland East province, are up in arms against a Chinese company, Heijin Mining, whose black granite mining claim covers the entire village.
The Mashonaland East provincial mining commissioner was engaged by the villagers. It is a shame that in issues like this our people will be represented by non governmental organisations or Human rights lawyers. What is the government telling people. When you need help who comes to help you. This is a serious negative vibes we are sending to those who are close to us.

A letter was copied to the Environmental Management Agency (EMA). and published in the press as follows “Our clients are residents of Kaseke village in Uzumba together with his clan, the Kaseke clan. Our client advises that Heijin Mining Company purports to be a holder of mining blocks in Kaseke village and officials from the said mining company and from the ministry have proceeded to peg the whole of our client’s village without consulting our clients,” the letter read.

“Our clients advise that the pegs cover their homesteads, grazing areas and cultivating fields. To that end, we kindly request any prospecting licence that was granted to Heijin Mining Company,” the letter further read.

The invasion of Kaseke village has irked traditional leaders, among them Chief Nyajina, who is encouraging his subjects to resist the takeover of the land.

“In the event that a prospecting licence was granted to Heijin Mining Company, it is our considered view that the pegging of Kaseke village is unlawful in terms of Section 31(1) of the Mines and Minerals Act, a holder of a prospecting licence shall not exercise any of the rights conferred in the licence on communal land without the consent of the occupier. The pegging of Kaseke village without the consultation of occupiers is, therefore, unlawful.”

“Further in terms of section 31(1) of the Mines and Minerals Act, no holder of a prospecting licence can proceed to peg communal land occupied as a village without the written consent of the rural district council of the area concerned,” the letter added.
These events are alienating the Zimbabwean people from their Chinese counterparts. The Chinese are using bullying and vicious threats.

When one thinks of the whole villages pegged off to Chinese without community consultations or without consulting the mediums of these areas you are left to wonder what  their social purpose is and whose interests are being represented.
Besides the villages the Chinese are occupying areas preserved for locals like retailing.

The generosity of Zimbabwe to Chinese investors is threatening the livelihoods of thousands of villagers in a rural areas all over Zimbabwe. We have villagers being evicted in Murehwa together with our cultural inheritance. We have villagers to be evicted in Domboshava as Chinese have been given authority to mine.
The Zimbabweans are asking if there is any amount of money which is worthy destroying a whole culture.

We must be wary of putting investment ahead of life. Villages are facing destructions. We must learn from Zambia. The opposition was made to win because Zambians were not happy with the upper hand given to the Chinese.
We must not lose our support in order to please our all weather friends. We must protect our inheritance and heritage. There can never be Zimbabwe without a village.

We need to appeal to the President to intervene. We know that the president is not being told the truth. It is time now that Zimbabwe sides with its people. We can not blossom without our roots. Zimbabwe is our only country we can call ours in the whole world.
Save our villages.

MDC Alliance Raises Alarm Over ZEC’s Desperate Move To Scuttle Young Voters

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance has pointed out that the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission( ZEC) is blocking scores of youths from registering to vote in Harare.

The capital city has only two registration centre and analysts say the regime has mooted a ploy meant to frustrate urban youths.

MDC Alliance has challenged the regime to increase registration centres in Harare and all urban areas across the country.

“The regime continues to stifle citizens constitutional rights.

Today, ZEC turned away Sunningdale youths who wanted to register to vote. Harare has only two registration centres. This must stop,” MDC Alliance said in a brief statement.

Despite the regime’s relentless attempts to thwart programmes being carried out by elected MDC Alliance officials, Councillor Grademan Mbira has managed to facilitate a number of projects in his area.

Exclusive: ‘Broke’ Tagwirei fires Workers, Pours Millions Into Football Two Months Later

By A Correspondent| Dynamos and Highlanders benefactor Kuda Tagwirei fired hundreds of workers at his Sakunda Holdings claiming that sanctions were taking a toll on him just two months before pouring more than US$5 million into the coffers of two Zimbabwe’s biggest football clubs.

Among the hundreds of fired employees were long serving executives including chief operating officer Mberikwazvo Chitambo and head of special projects Clement Kahiya.

However, insiders said Sakunda Holdings has never been broke and firing of workers by Tagwirei was just a ruse exercise meant to dispose off employees he deemed knew ‘too much’ and in the process hoodwink the Americans into believing that their sanctions were working.

“Chitambo and Kahiya had become big elephants in the room, they simply had too much information. Remember, appearing before Parliament in March 2020, Sakunda Chief Operating officer Chitambo showed documents that he said proved that his company had received around US$1 billion between June 2016 and May 2019 for Command Agriculture,” said the source.

“It defies logic that a company which claimed to be on the brink of collapse two months ago can suddenly spring into life sponsoring football to the tune of millions. As usual, Tagwirei is up to something here,” said the source.

Reached for comment, Tagwirei did not respond.

Tagwirei, who is the majority shareholder of CBZ and ZB banks is on the United States sanctions list for aiding the suffering of Zimbabweans through his dubious dealings with the Mnangagwa administration.

The government of Zimbabwe has awarded him contracts in transport, agriculture, mining and infrastructure development among other sectors of the economy.

Mother Fights Crocodile To Save Son

warning disturbing video picture image

What was supposed to be a quiet and relaxing day out fishing along Runde River turned into a real-life nightmare for Maurina Msisinyana (31) sometime last year.

warning disturbing video picture image

For years, she had admired women from her village in Chipinda, Chiredzi South, who had mastered the art of fishing in the mighty Runde river, which meanders along the borders of their village.

On April 8, 2020, she took along her three sons Silent, Paradise and Gideon then aged 11, seven, two respectively and her sister-in-law, Beauty Ingwani, to trawl for relish along the river. Being a novice, Beauty was to be her tutor on that fateful day; a Wednesday that was to forever change her life.

To sidestep any distractions while she went about her fishing, she had placed two-year-old Gideon and his seven-year-old brother Paradise under an umbrella along the shores of the river. Maurina, Beauty, and Silent, the eldest son, then went about trawling for a catch.

Little did they know a killer reptile was lurking in the waters, waiting to pounce on the weakest among them.

After hours of toiling, with no luck, the trio called it quits. As they were packing up, a large crocodile pounced and whisked Gideon from the shore and swiftly sled back into the river.

The crocodile had also seized the umbrella. “I was a few meters behind Beauty, when I heard her screaming that Gideon had been taken,” Maurina recalled.

“I ran towards her and my other sons.” They then noticed the umbrella slowly disappearing into the water.

Immediately, I jumped into the water, grabbed the umbrella, which was stopping the crocodile from locking its jaws. That is when I saw Gideon’s little body inside the crocodile’s mouth.

“I realised that if I pulled my baby out, his head would be split into two.” She quickly armed herself with a stick, that she used to poke the predator and pounded it with her bare fists.

The crocodile relented and released Gideon.

At that moment the predator flew back into the water, causing a huge splash that drenched Maurina’s face, apparently with the intention of distracting her. The predator had found a new victim. The crocodile then latched on to Maurina’s hands and tried to drag her into the water. She refused to yield and fought back.

On realising that it was fighting a losing battle, the predator disappeared into the water.

While she was in that state of shock, she immediately realised that Gideon was still missing. She frantically dived into the water where she found Gideon’s seemingly lifeless body lying prostrate on the riverbed.

“I carried him back to the shore,” she continued. He was unconscious and fellow villagers had begun gathering.

“He had a very weak pulse. People who were around helped me to find transport to the nearest clinic.” Gideon had sustained a deep cut on his left eye and nose.

In recognition of this heroic act, last month, President Mnangagwa awarded Maurina the Silver Cross of Zimbabwe National Heroic Award during the Heroes’ Day celebrations.

This was for her selfless bravery through wrestling a deadly predator to save her child from the jaws of certain death.

She was recognised among other luminaries that include Nehanda Nyakasikana, Queen Lozikeyi Dlolo, Sekuru Kaguvi and Josiah Tongogara among other heroes who received national honours. Maurina, however, remains grounded and believes that any other mother would have done the same for their child. “What I did can be done by any parent and is being done every day,” she said.

“You will always have the strength to fight for what you love. Parents wrestle predators of various forms and shapes every day.”

She added: “When I was told about the medal, I was surprised but grateful all the same. Winning against such predators is the best form of a medal anyone can ever have.” Now aged three, Gideon has scars- a permanent reminder of his mother’s love.

“When I was contacted by the authorities, I was in South Africa where my husband works so I could not come in person,” she added.

“But my parents stood in for me.I am extremely thankful for the recognition by President Mnangagwa.”

Incidents of human-wildlife conflict are on the increase, especially in settlements that share borders with game reserves. -Sunday Mail

$5,000 Fine For Not Displaying House Number

Bulawayo City Council has updated its Fire Brigade by-laws which will among other provisions make it a Level Three offence for home owners not to display their house numbers at their premises.

The level offences are benchmarked to the Government levels where Level Three is attracting a fine of $5 000.

In the updated by-laws the local authority has consolidated Fire Brigade policies to form one concrete document of by-laws, with fines now having been included for various offences. Among the notable offences is the issue of clearly displaying house numbers for purposes of easy identification in cases of emergencies.

“For purposes of easy identification by any member of the Service in an emergency, every owner or occupier of premises must ensure that the correct street number of the premises is displayed clearly on the street boundary of the premises in numbers at least 75 millimetres high; is visible from the street and is maintained in a legible condition at all times,” reads part of the by-laws.

Further, it is now an offence for anyone to make a bonfire or burn any rubbish or straw, shavings, standing grass or other vegetation or other flammable or combustible materials in any street, sanitary lane or thoroughfare or in any park or open space or within a distance of 15 metres of any building, whether private property or not, without first having obtained the written permission of the council.

“The council shall have the right to refuse permission in any case in which it considers the lighting of a fire for any of the purposes mentioned would endanger life or property. No person having control of any vacant piece of land shall allow grass or rubbish to accumulate in such a manner and in such quantities as may be likely to cause danger of fire to any building.

“Council may, by notice in writing, require any person to remove such materials or such grass or rubbish or to take such reasonable precautions as the council may deem necessary…If such person fails to comply with such notice the council may remove such materials or such grass or rubbish and may recover the cost of so doing from such person, in addition to which such person shall be liable to prosecution for a breach of these by-laws,” reads the by-law.

In terms of building inspections, the local authority has directed that any member of the Fire Brigade is permitted to examine any building to ensure that they adhere to all fire prevention protocols.

“Council shall have the right to specify, in particular instances, the minimum requirements relating to precautions to be taken and the appliances to be installed and maintained by the occupiers and/or owners of the premises or building.

“If, in the opinion of the council, any building or its use is a source of danger to persons or property by reason of the risk of fire, the council shall, by notice in writing, advise the owner and/or occupier of such building that the use of such building or premises is to be restricted by the total prohibition of its use until such time as it has been modified to meet the council’s requirements,” reads the by-law. -Sunday News

Zimbabwean Villagers Sold To The Chinese Miners

FC Platinum Crash Out Of CAF Champions League

FC Platinum are out of the CAF Champions League after losing 5-4 on penalties to Angolan side Sagrada Esperança in the preliminary round fixture played at the National Sports Stadium on Saturday.

The tie had ended without goals after another draw in the first leg last week.

The visitors dominated possession in the opening moments of the game but created a few meaningful chances.

The Platinum Boys, on the other end, only showed flashes of intent and never came full-blown until after the half-hour mark. Their first real opportunity fell on Rodwell Chinyengetere’s way, but his header went an inch wide.

Gift Mbweti followed up with a glorious chance a few moments later but could not keep his effort low enough, and the ball went straight to hit the crossbar.

Nomore Chinyerere also had a good opportunity and, again, his effort could not separate the teams going into the break.

Esperanca set an early pace in the second half and almost grabbed the lead on the restart when Manuel Ngalula da Cunha’s shot missed the target.

But Norman Mapeza’s charges soon settled their nerves, and Chinyerere had a good chance, only for his shot to be tipped over by the goalkeeper.

However, the tempo soon toned down on both ends, with the goalmouth incidents becoming few and far between.

It was until the 77th minute when the visitors came close to the goal, but a brilliant save from Petros Mhari plus a block on the rebound by Donald Dzvinyai kept the game level.

Later on, Chinyengetere could have buried the match with a glorious opportunity on the 89th minute but was denied by the keeper, both on his first attempt and the rebound.

The tie ended without goals and was to be decided by a penalty shootout.

The visitors converted all their kicks while FC Platinum missed one through Chinyengetere to lose the shootout 5-4. – Soccer24 Zimbabwe

The Hard Talk With Paddington Japajapa… Chamisa’s MDC Alliance To Win 2023 Polls

PRESS STATEMENT.

18 September 2021

SUBJECT; CHAMISA,S MDC ALLIANCE TO WIN THE 2023 GENERAL ELECTION WITH A BIGGER MARGIN, AGAINST MNANGAGWA,S DECAYING ZANU PF, ZCEO PRESIDENT P.JAPA JAPA SAYS!!!!

The President of one of Zimbabwe’s Largest Civic Society Organisation, Zimbabwe Centre for Equal Opportunities “ZCEO” Psychologist,Soccer Administrator,Politician, Teacher of God,s Word and Evangelist Paddington Japa Japa has propounded that Advocate Nelson Chamisa’s MDCA is going to Win the 2023 Zimbabwean, Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.Japa Japa a veteran of the Zimbabwean Politics, from pre to post independent Zimbabwe has categorically stated that President Emmerson Mnangagwa who came to Power through a Coup Detent, that toppled one of the former founding late Zanu Pf President Robert Gabriel Mugabe,is going to loose the 2023 Plebiscite if the game is played fairly.

Besides the stage managed Cosmetic Changes being Potrayed by the so called New Dispensation under Emmerson Mnangagwa, Zanu Pf is going to loose the 2023 General election due to a variety of reasons.

The Debit side of the misfiring Mnangagwa Zanu Pf Regime,s ledger is weighing heavily against the Credit side, in terms of acceptable, good leadership qualities. The Zimbabwean Citizenry who are the electorate with a final say on who rules the Country, have been provoked into full anger and wrath against the evil regime and the only way to punish the rogue administration is by voting it out of Power.

The main reasons that shall cause Zanu Pf,s fall from Governance are as follows;

-Failure to uphold the rule of law.
-Gross Human rights abuses.
-Failure to contain run away inflation which is now at 800%, reminscent of the 2010 – 2012 Scenario, where the Zimbabwean dollar was loosing value at a very fast daily rate.
-Zimbabweans ended up using bond notes denominated in Billions and Quintillions.
-Prices of Goods and Services have become unaffordable, skyrocketing weekly and now beyond the reach of three Quarters of the Country,s impoverished population.
-Inflation rate is galloping faster on a daily basis, which in turn cause, high cost of production, of goods and services.
-The RBZ and Minister of Finance have failed dismally to contain and controll the run away inflation which has caused the exchange rate to reach the 1 usd to 160 Zim dollar.
-The Price of a loaf of bread is now at Z$120 per loaf, one of the most basic commodity for everything Zimbabwean, not mentioning the other basic commodities which an average family require to survive.
-In rural areas the prices have double due to higher transport costs.
-The education system in the country is in a shambles, with school calendars being continually disrupted by the Covid 19 shut downs.
-Corruption is at its highest with every Government department deeply involved in corrupt practices.
-The ZRP,SACU and ZACC which are arms of Government whose responsibility is to fight corruption, have become corrupt themselves so there is no one to guard the guard.
-The Judicial Service Commission is now full of very corrupt Judges, Magistrates and Prosecutors who are demanding for bribes to handle Court cases.
-The entire Civil Service has been corrupted due to the poor worthless salaries they are earning, which cannot sustain the higher exorbitant living standards confronting their daily lives.
-Corruption is prevalent at every societal level with those in higher Political offices being the main culprits.
-Not to be left out in the Corruption Gravy train are those in the Zanu Pf Presidium, who have on several occasions been accused of involvement in massive corrupt activities involving Mega millions of United States Dollar deals.
-Of all the Governments that have ever ruled Zimbabwe, the Mnangagwa Regime is the most corrupt, with Kuda Tagwireyi cartel in the fore front of capturing the economic and financial Sector.
-God Almighty hates corruption and oppression of another person by the other, Mnangagwa uses the law to fix and oppress the people whom he is suppose to lead as a President.
-Mnagagwa, s regime is one of the most brutal ever to rule Zimbabwe, he uses the Judicial system which he has heavily captured to fix his Political Opponents.
-The Regime uses the military Junta to remain in Power forever.
-The regime has also captured ZEC Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, and staffed it with Members of the Central Intelligence Organisation and Millitary intelligence department as a vanguard to retain power at all cost.

In view of all the above stated factors which favour a Zanu Pf Dynasty and over stay in power, Zimbabweans must come up with a solution to deal with such high level type of Shenanigans, firstly to prepare thoughroughly for the coming 2023 elections, to seek for sufficient funds to run the elections, to mobilise sufficient election agents to guard against vote rigging. To follow Professor Jonathan Moyo, s advice and tip offs on how to plug Zanu Pf election rigging mechanisms, especially tempering with results in the main ZEC server by Zanu Pf (IT) team at ZEC.!!!

Cheating Woman Thrashes Own Hubby Over Boyfriend Queries

By A Correspondent- A woman from Cowdray Park suburb recently left people in her neighbourhood shocked after she ran amok and thoroughly assaulted her husband with fists after he asked her why she brings her boyfriends to their home.

Sithandazile Lunga is reportedly in the habit of bashing her husband Masala Zikhali in full glare of the neighbours, a development that has resulted in the latter being a laughing stock in the community.

As if that is not enough, Lunga, who seems to have totally lost affection for her husband, sometimes threatens to poison or stab him.

Efforts to rein in Lunga by her relatives have all gone down the drain, leaving Zikhali with no option but to seek justice from the courts.

“I have been living with Sithandazile Lunga for almost six years. This woman is so violent that she physically assaults me, verbally abuses me and is always insulting me.

“She is always threatening to poison or stab me so that she can inherit my house. She even has the guts to bring her boyfriends to my house and when I confront her she beats me.

“This has caused me emotionally stress. I have on numerous occasions told her to leave me but she says she will leave after I’m dead,” said Zikhali.

He added that their marriage had been full of thorns and that he has been living in misery.

“Lunga once left me in 2018 and went to South Africa for four months and when she came back we sat down and solved our problems which had caused her to leave me.

“But she left me again and went away for one year. Ever since she came back our problems have since gone from bad to worse. I wish the honourable court to help me by granting me a protection order barring her from continuously

staying in my house, physically assaulting me, threatening me and verbally abusing me,” said Zikhali.

Defiant Ex- girlfriend Vows To Snatch Married Lover Back

By A Correspondent- Nomsa Gonouya, a defiant ex-girlfriend, vowed in court that she will not rest until she gets her married ex-lover back.

But her ex-lover wants nothing to do with her because he is now happily married, so she has resorted to tormenting the couple.

Sources say she regularly visits the couple’s place unannounced and starts destroying their property saying all she wants is her ex-lover.

This has caused her ex-lover’s wife, Milicent Moyo, to live in fear, leading her to seek justice from the courts.

“I am applying for a peace order against my husband’s ex-girlfriend Nomsa Gonouya. She always comes into my place of residence threatening that I dispossessed her of her husband and she wants him back, besides that I will die and leave him.

“She sometimes comes and breaks my window. She can even fight with my husband in my house. She also collected some soil from my yard promising to perform rituals to get him back. I pray that the honourable court may grant me a peace order that will stop her from coming into my place of residence and she must stop threatening me in any manner. I am now living in fear because of her actions.

I want to live a peaceful life,” said Moyo.

In her response, Gonouya said: “She should know that we share a man. I don’t mind not going to her place of residence but what I want is my ex-lover.”

Western Commonage magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube ordered Gonouya not to enter Moyo’s premises and to refrain from threatening Moyo.

Chegutu Municipality Sells Stand For ZW$10k

By A Correspondent- Chegutu Municipality housing director Ms Shylet Dzivai allegedly sold a residential stand measuring 1 800 square metres for $10 000 early this month which was equal to US$116, way below the initial value of US$7 000 quoted in 2007, leading to calls for the Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC) to investigate in the town.

The sale was raised when Ms Dzivai and town clerk Mr Jacob Chikuruwo appeared before Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee’s sub-committee on Local Authorities to respond to issues raised in the 2019 Auditor General’s report. The stand was allocated to Mr Takuranei Musoko in 2007 valued at $200 million (equivalent to US$7 000 then) but was repossessed in 2017.

Ms Dzivai allegedly unilaterally re-allocated the stand to Mr Musoko without following procedures and he paid $10 000 early this month. When they appeared before the sub-committee chaired by Chegutu West legislator, Dexter Nduna, Mr Chikuruwo said he had not approved the transaction while Ms Dzivai said she could not recall issues related to the deal and was granted permission to bring the file on the stand next week.

Nduna said there was a possibility of corruption on the part of the director of housing and requested the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) to investigate the matter. ZACC commissioner Mrs Thandiwe Mlobane, who also attended the meeting, said they would send a team to probe the matter.

The anti-corruption team was also asked to investigate the appointment of Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa in 2019 as acting town clerk. He was appointed substantively to the post in July this year. Eng Mukaratirwa was deputy director engineering services for the city when he was appointed acting town clerk in September 2019. However, the sub-committee said that appointment contravened the Urban Councils Act, which says in the absence of a substantive town clerk, the chamber secretary should act in that capacity.

At the time of his appointment, Mr Vitalis Shonhiwa was the acting chamber secretary and the sub-committee said he should have been appointed instead. However, Eng Mukaratirwa disputed the sub-committee’s assertion saying the provision in the Act was for persons holding the chamber secretary’s post substantively.

This prompted Nduna to request ZACC to look into the matter saying the irregular appointment could have been to facilitate corruption in light of irregularities cited in the Auditor General’s report.

“Debunking Misinformation And Disinformation On Covid-19”: Journalists Trained On Conflict Sensitive Reporting

By A Correspondent- Journalists here have been urged to use culturally appropriate means of communication as a way of transformation conflict and promoting peace building as the nation battles the Covid-19 pandemic.

This was said during a Conflict Sensitive Reporting training workshop held under the theme Debunking Disinformation on Covid-19 organised by the UNESCO and the European Union for online content creators (Thursday).

Addressing journalists, Richard Chere, a trainer from the Centre for Conflict Management and Transformation (CCMT) said because conflict is not entirely negative if it is well managed, the media should package information in a way that helps resolve conflict especially in fragile environment.

He said misinformation and disinformation has ripple effects on the fight against the covid- 19 considering that there is a lot of falsehoods that circulates on social media

“Information, be it the lack of it or abundance of it or the unavailability of relevant and accurate information causes people to fill in the gaps.

How information is packaged can trigger or help resolve conflict in fragile environments.  For example when the media constantly bombards community members on the negative effects of a particular vaccine or when the media publishes information that is not factual about Covid 19.

The social media is now being used to push certain agendas and unverified narratives hence the need for the media to be pro active in releasing verified and factual information.”

Chere said if managed well, through constructive engagement, moving away from adversarial approaches, the outcomes of conflict may be positive as it aids in conflict resolution.

“Communication is a central feature of all conflicts, and interestingly, of all conflict management and conflict transformation strategies.

The media should ensure that its processes are anchored on the principles of inclusivity, humanity, learning, and the long term perspective of peace building.

Communication is important because it is a tool which when used effectively creates a bond between people, communities and nations.”

Speaking at the same training workshop, Zimbabwe Online Content Creators chairperson Toneo Rutsito said there is need for the media to be capacitated and trained on how to tackle disinformation and  misinformation especially on covid-19 related information.

The training workshop was attended by at least 25 online content creators and its aim was to assist media partners to professionally and effectively share lifesaving information, and debunk disinformation on Covid-19 in conflict-prone environments.

It also aimed at enhancing and strengthening the capacities of partner media professional to report on COVID-19.

Humiliation For Chief Makope

By A Correspondent- Chief Makope of Mazowe district was left with an egg on his face after he tried to swindle five  villagers from Nyandirwi farm, Mvurwi by  ordering them  to pay a hefty combined fine of 40 beasts  for  cutting down trees in his area.

Dave Juna, Kudakwashe Chipura, Dunmore Masangoapera, William Nyoka and Asmaras Makuva did not honour the chief’s sentence and were dragged to Guruve magistrates courts facing a contempt of court charge.

The chief’s sentence was however dismissed after the court evaluated the case.

The suspects’ lawyer Alice N Mujakachi of BChipadza law Chambers told this publication that her clients were not given to argue their case at the chief’s court.

“My clients were exonerated by the magistrate court because the charge was purely defective, the allegations emanated from a ruling that was granted by Chief Makope were he ordered each accused to pay a hefty fine and eight beasts for cutting down trees on their plots citing that it was a scared place,” the lawyer said.

“The accused were not given a chance to argue their case at the chief’s court. They were later surprised to note the chief’s messenger approaching them to execute the order granted by the chief.”

Allegations are that  on 8 August the five were seen by chief’s advisors cutting down trees and were summoned to his traditional court were they were charged and sentenced.

By A Correspondent- Mashonaland West police Armoury officer-in-charge Inspector Clive Kadambure and his three-co-accused facing charges of illegally acquiring and selling firearms to armed robbers and poachers while smuggling some to neighbouring countries have been denied bail at the High Court.

Kadambure, Edmore Manuwere, Wonder Kwaramba and Patrick Chirara had approached the High Court seeking bail pending trial.

But Justice Benjamin Chikowero dismissed the application saying the release of the suspects would undermine the public confidence in the criminal justice delivery system.

The three are facing charges of contravening the Firearms Act pertaining to purchasing, acquiring or possessing any ammunition without holding a firearm certificate.

Charges against Kadambure are that on March 16, detectives from CID Masvingo heard that he was wanted by CID Mwenezi in connection with the smuggling of guns through the Sango Border Post.

Mnangagwa Godfather Hits Chamisa Top Ally

By A Correspondent- Top President Emmerson Mnangagwa personal advisor and Local Government Minister July Moyo has fired Harare mayor Jacob Mafume.

Moyo fired the MDC Alliance senior official from heading the Town House Friday.

He also has suspended him (Mafume) from being a councillor and withdrew his official benefits, including salary.

Minister July Moyo is accusing Mafume of gross misconduct and willful violation of the law.

In a letter addressed to Mafume seen by The Herald last night, Moyo said:

In terms of Section 114(2) and Section 114(1)(c) and (e) of the Urban Councils Act (Chapter 29:15) as amended by the Local Government Laws Amendment Act number 8 of 2016, I hereby suspend you, Councillor Jacob Mafume with immediate effect from the office of councillor for Ward 17 Mount Pleasant, Harare City Council.

You were granted bail on the 8th of December 2020 with a number of conditions, one of which being not to interfere with any State witnesses.

It is alleged that contrary to the bail conditions set by the High Court, particularly the condition which states that you are not to interfere with any State witnesses, you proceeded to contact witnesses and arrange to meet them, being fully aware of them being state witnesses.

You were arrested on the 14th of December 2020 whilst you were in discussion with a key witness Edgar Dzehonye, contrary to the bail condition that stipulates that you not interfere with State witnesses.

The above allegations give reasonable grounds to suspend you for gross misconduct and willful violation of the law in terms of 114 (2) of the Urban Councils Act (Chapter 29:15] as amended by the Local Government Laws Amendment Act Number 8 of 2016 and as more fully appears in all above paragraphs and reference documents.

Moyo said Mafume is required to respond to the allegations within seven days of receiving the suspension notice.

During the suspension period, Mafume is barred from conducting any business for or on behalf of the council, within or outside council premises.

Mafume was suspended in December last year following his arrest on criminal abuse of office allegations relating to improper allocation of residential stands, charges that he denies.

High Court “Throws Jecha” On Tafadzwa Muguti’s NGO Ban

By A Correspondent- The High Court has nullified Harare Provincial Development Coordinator, Tafadzwa Muguti’s decision to ban some non Governmental Organisations (NGOs) after they failed to submit their work plans as he had directed them to do.

In an urgent chamber application filed on 3 August, Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum and Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition Trust, a mother body of NGOs said the directive was unconstitutional.

Muguti, Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Harare Metropolitan Province, Local government minister, Home affairs minister, Public Service minister were all cited as respondents.

In its ruling handed down this Friday, the High Court said the applicants had made out a prima facie case establishing that their constitutional rights had been violated by Muguti’s directive. The ruling read in part.

As already discussed above, the Act has not yet been amended to incorporate the first respondent’s position. Until such a time that is done, the first respondent cannot issue directives to NGOs and purport to police them.

In view of the foregoing, I find merit in the applicants’ application for an interdict pending the return day. They have made out a prima facie case establishing the constitutional rights that are likely to be infringed which NGOs have an inherent interest in.

There is a reasonable apprehension of harm in that the operations of NGOs will be disrupted or stopped as per the press statement of the first respondent.

The balance of convenience favours the granting of the interdict. No prejudice will be suffered by the respondents if the interdict is granted pending the return day.

On the other hand, the applicants and NGOs stand to suffer irreparable harm if the interdict is not granted as operations may be stopped at any time as threatened by the first respondent.

The High Court ordered Muguti to refrain “from enforcing: interfering with, suspending or stopping operations of Non-Governmental Organizations, Trusts, Civil Society Organizations and Faith-Based Organizations…”

DNA Shocker- 14yr Old Impregnates Brother’s Wife

By A Correspondent- A 14 year old teen from Chihota learned the hard way that all actions have consequences. The youthful teen discovered conclusively that he is now a father following an illicit affair with his older brother’s wife.

The shocking case occured in the Chihota area under Chief Nyandoro. The illicit affair between the minor and his brother’s wife was exposed when the latter fell pregnant, even though her husband has spent the last two years in South Africa without returning home. In that time, the husband and wife ad no contact with each other. The woman later gave birth to a healthy baby.

Due to the unusual circumstances, the case was reported to the traditional leader’s court for judgement. During the subsequent hearings at Chief Nyandoro’s court, it was alleged that the 14-year-old teen ad been having an illicit affair with his brother’s wife.

However, the brother’s wife was alleged to have been seeing someone else, who was only identified as Tinashe. The allegations were made by the teen’s parents. She, on the other hand, vehemently denied this charge, insisting that the only other person she had been intimate with apart from her husband, is his younger brother

Due to the conflicting allegations, Chief Nyandoro ordered DNA tests to be carried out to establish the paternity of the child. The DNA tests were carried out by Global DNA Zimbabwe, and the results were announced on their weekly show.

Before the presentation of results occured at the Chief’s court, the teenager and his sister-in-law were asked to explain how they had come to have intimate relations. In this regard, both parties blamed each other for initiating the affair.

The juvenile alleged that his brother’s wife used to mock im saying that he was artless and unsophisticated. She is said to have tried flirting with him. When he filed to prove otherwise, she is alleged to have cornered him in his bedroom and ordered him to sleep with her. He claimed that she entered his room, locked the door, took off her clothes and threatened to accuse him of rape if he did not become intimate with her. He could not recall how many times they had been intimate since.

The brother’s wife, on the other hand, claimed that the teenager is the one who initiated everything. She claimed that he used to say that his brother had tasked him to look after her and to take care of all her needs. When she disputed this, he is alleged to have said that the instruction was given to him directly.

She went on to allege that one day when the mother-in-law had left them alone, the teen came into her bedroom when she was sleeping. He then took off his clothes, got into bed and had his way with her. She alleged that this would happen every single time when they were left alone. She also claimed that the two would continue with their escapades whenever they were tasked with fetching firewood.  The brother’s wife said she only disclosed the pregnancy to the teenager as she was too intimidated to tell her in-laws.

When the DNA results were announced, the minor and his parents appeared dismayed. The teen said that he is not happy that the baby is his.

The brother’s wife and her relatives on the other hand seemed happy that they had been vindicated. After delivering the results to Chief Nyandoro’s court, the DNA team left the Chief and his court to continue with the hearing. The chief was yet to pass judgement on the matter when the show concluded.

It is not clear if the Chief will hand over the case to the police as the brother’s wife clearly violated the law by being intimate with a 14-yer-old.

Zanu PF Thug Attacks Chamisa Ally, Leaves Him For Dead

By Correspondent- Zanu Pf stalwart Godfrey Mlambo is under fire for assaulting former MDC Alliance ward 2 councillor Rydes Machekera.
Mlambo beat up Machekera (Friday) and the matter was reported at Chegutu Hintonville police station under RRB number 4792968.

Said a source privy to the development:
“Mlambo attacked Machekera with fists over his body and he fell down before he started kicking him while he was lying on the ground.
This must be politically motivated violence because Machekera is a wellknown MDC Alliance supporter who in August passed through Rukau shopping centre and this was a venue where the Zanu pf stalwarts were holding their meeting. This could the reason why he was assaulted.”
ZimEye has it on good authority that on the day in question, Mlambo waylaid Machekera and started accusing him of trying to be important for nothing.
“He started shouting at him telling him that ane dzungu. When he queried what he meant and why he was shouting at him, Machekera was beaten up. Mlambo did not give any explanation on why he was attacking him.”
Machekera refused to comment on the matter but told ZimEye that he was not well.
A close relative however confirmed that Machekera had sustained ear injuries from the attack and was now experiencing a serious headache.
Efforts to get a comment from Mlambo was work in progress by the time of writing.

Govt Stopped From Interfering With NGOs

The government has been interdicted from interfering with or suspending Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs).

Harare Provincial Development Coordinator Tafadzwa Mugwadi in June ordered NGOs operating in Harare to share their work plans for 2021, but many snubbed his directive. On July 29, Muguti issued a statement calling on police to arrest all NGOs that had refused to comply.

But Justice Esther Muremba of the Harare High Court on Friday granted an interim order sought by the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum and Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition after the two organisations – representing 82 NGOs – argued that Muguti’s actions were illegal as they violated the right to administrative justice.

“I find merit in the applicants’ application for an interdict pending the return day (full hearing),” the judge ruled. “They have made out a prima facie case to establish the constitutional rights that are likely to be infringed, which NGOs have an inherent interest in. There is a reasonable apprehension of harm in that the operations of NGOs will be disrupted or stopped as per the press statement of the first respondent.”

Justice Muremba said the balance of convenience favours the granting of the interdict, adding that no prejudice would be suffered by Muguti.

“On the other hand, the applicants and NGOs stand to suffer irreparable harm if the interdict is not granted as operations may be stopped at any time as threatened by Mugwadi. In the result, I will grant the provisional order as prayed for by the applicant.”

In an urgent chamber application filed on August 3, Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum and Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition Trust said the directive was unconstitutional.

“Muguti does not state in his press statement the law under which he makes the declaration that NGOs will be stopped from operating. By purporting to have regulatory authority or power over applicants and other NGOs, Muguti has acted without jurisdiction,” they argued.

“As a result, his press statement and directives are a nullity and of no force and effect and liable to be set aside. The press statement is in clear breach of the Provincial Councils and Administration Act and the Private Voluntary Organisations Act.”

The NGOs said more significantly, the press statement abrogates the rights of applicants provided in section 57, 68, and 69 of the constitution.- State media

Umzingwane Villagers Face Eviction

VILLAGERS settling close to the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) cantonment area in Umzingwane, Matabeleland South, face eviction as government moves in to deal with illegal settlements across the country.

Land barons and local authorities accused of parcelling out land to illegal settlers will bear the cost of eviction and relocation, Local Government deputy minister Marian Chombo told Parliament this week.

Chombo was responding to Umzingwane Zanu-PF legislator Levi Mayihlome who wanted to know “when the ministry was going to stop and reverse illegal settlements in communal and A1 settlement areas in Umzingwane.

“She said an inter-ministerial committee has been set up to resolve challenges related to “dysfunctional” settlements, both urban and communal areas with a view of regularising, demolition and evicting affected people.”

In Umzingwane, the areas affected by illegal settlers are wards 20 and 5 where people settled themselves and established an urban settlement in communal and resettlement areas in the Mbalabala area, 40 kms from Bulawayo; ward 19 of Godlwayo area where people settled themselves and were given eviction notices; in wards 1 and 2, people were settled next to the cantonment area of the Zimbabwe National Army, the people need to be resettled to safe areas,” Chombo said.

“We have been going through the 10 provinces to make sure that we identify where all those dysfunctional settlements are.”

There is a programme that is being drawn up to make sure that we identify who settled those people there. Was it the land barons? Was it the local authority or was it us, the Local Government and Public Works ministry?”Recently, Lands and Agriculture minister Anxious Masuka revealed that as many as 250 000 people were on the waiting list for farming land.

Masuka said the ministry’s registry shows that most of the land has been occupied but no farming was taking place in some areas for various reasons, hence the ongoing visit to re-distribute the vacant, abandoned, and derelict farms.

“First and foremost, we have to identify a place to move those people to and the cost of moving them is going to be borne by either one of them, that is the land baron, local authority or the Local Government and Public Works ministry,” Chombo said.

“If they settled themselves on that ground, then it means that they will bear the cost of moving but the central government is trying to make sure that all those people who illegally settled themselves on those dysfunctional settlements are well settled. We will try to do that before the onset of the rain season.”

NCA Visits Incarcerated MDC Alliance Youth Leader

Madock Chivasa NCA Spokesperson

By A Correspondent- Top National Constitutional Assembly official Madock Chivasa has visited MDC-Alliance youth leader Makomborero Haruzivishe at Harare Remand Prison.

Chivasa teamed up with MDC-Alliance youths, bought groceries and visited Haruzivishe.

Posting on his Facebook page soon after the visit, Chivasa said he stood with other pro-democracy activists in calling for the release of Haruzivishe.

“Today I went to Harare Remand Prison to visit Makomborero Haruzivishe, the MDC youth leader, on behalf of a group of Mako’s friends we established to offer solidarity with him and ensure that justice is done to his case. He was in high spirits, and we should collectively condemn his continued incarceration. As a group, we contributed to buy a few items to give to him. The struggle is real and continues,” posted Chivasa!

It has been several months since Haruzivishe was wrongfully imprisoned.

The MDC-Alliance youth leader was recently granted bail but could not go home. Instead, he was removed from Chikurubi maximum security prison to Harare remand prison on other trumped-up charges.

ED’s Anti Corruption Efforts, A Facade

When he took over power in a November 2017 coup, President Emmerson Mnangagwa won the hearts of many sceptics after he pledged to deal with corruption, a vice widely believed to be stalling development in the southern African country.

After disbanding the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) board accused of perpetrating corruption and appointing a new team, Mnangagwa went on to establish the Special Anti-Corruption Unit (Sacu) in his office to prove his determination to fight graft.

He also designated a specific court to deal with corruption cases. But four years down the line, observers say the situation on the ground shows that his anti-graft fight was nothing but a facade.

Many people think Mnangagwa is using anti-graft fight to fight factionalism in his ruling Zanu-PF party.Insiders within the ruling party have raised concerns over insignificant progress on convictions and prosecution of party members arrested by the Zacc and Sacu on graft charges.

Sacu, an arm in Mnangagwa’s office, critics say is a tool to punish his political foes. The criticism followed the arrest of several Zanu-PF bigwigs on graft charges following a “name-andshame” operation by the party youth league in 2019.

However, the party has not yet taken disciplinary action against those named as “corrupt” despite its pledges to support the government’s fight against corruption. Instead, the whistleblowers, Pupurai Togarepi and Lewis Mathutu were demoted while Godfrey Tsenegmau was fired from the party.

Zanu-PF Makonde senator and ex-Cabinet minister Priscah Mupfumira was the only one arrested and sacked in 2019 on allegations of abusing US$95 million from the National Social Security Authority (NSSA).

She denied the allegations. The court case has revolved many times and the figure reduced significantly, raising fears that the case could collapse. In fact, it appears it is only a matter of time before she is acquitted.

Despite the allegations, her bail conditions were recently relaxed and she was authorised by Mnangagwa to travel to South Africa on Parliament business. Mupfumira remains a full member of Zanu-PF.

Mupfumira recounted: “It all started with protracted social media allegations and abuse by (name supplied) and other Mashonaland West WhatsAppgroups.”

Twice, I informed the President who advised me to ignore the honourable member since he (the alleged informant) was not a member of our party.

This was followed by a name and shame by the party youth league executive members in July 2019 wherein my name was on the so-called list of government and Zanu-PF corrupt leaders.”

The politburo then resolved to appoint a commission of enquiry to validate the allegations. I have still not yet been invited to appear before the commission to present my case.

I am ready to present my story and answer any questions to the commission.”

She argued that she was the only person out of a list of over a dozen “so-called” corrupt leaders arrested by Zacc. Her prolonged pre-trial detention did not conform to constitutional tenets of “presumption of innocence” until proven guilty, she added.

The former minister also said: “If the matter was founded on proper investigations and on the premise of reasonable evidence that warrants an arrest, then the trial ought to have commenced in earnest and should, even when one considers the accused’s concerns and applications on record have been nearly finalised.

“To illustrate this point, one needs to interrogate the conduct of the prosecuting authority on October 22, 2019 wherein now three new charges separate from the original seven came to the fore and whose trial has now commenced, this notwithstanding the fact that these three are insignificant to the original seven that were the focus of the State that fuelled the damning media blitz and court of public opinion.”

But Zanu-PF acting spokesperson Mike Bimha told NewsDay Weekender that the ruling party does not interfere with functions of either Zacc or Sacu, but it was waiting for finalisation of the corruption cases involving its members at the courts for it to decisively deal with the matters.

“The party has never interfered with either Sacu or Zacc because they are independent State institutions,” Bimha said.”

When the cases are still before the courts, the party cannot take action against the accused persons. Once the cases are finalised, the party then can institute its own proceedings in dealing with such matters.

In Mupfumira’s case, for instance, the party has already taken action against her when it suspended her from her post as the secretary for environment and tourism in the politburo.

“Recently, Mupfumira, contributing in the Senate challenged law enforcement agents to thoroughly investigate cases before arresting suspects, saying the “catch and release” practice adopted by police was abetting corruption.

“The problem is that there are a lot of false allegations that are going on. So, no one will take us seriously and we will score lowly when it comes to the index,” she said.

“Human dignity should be considered when there are arrests or allegations. When there is an investigation, there should be a good investigation. Law enforcement agents should be well-trained to separate rumours and reasonable allegations.”

In 2018, then Home Affairs minister Obert Mpofu refused to appear before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy to give evidence on the alleged $15 billion diamond funds which went missing while he was still Mines minister.

Like Mupfumira, the party secretary for administration, Mpofu has never appeared before an internal disciplinary action, raising concerns over selective application of the law for political ends.

Police Commissioner Douglas Nyakutsikwa, who was arrested by Sacu after he allegedly used his influence as a senior police officer to get residential stands for himself told Harare magistrate Ngoni Nduna that his case was being politicised. He challenged the Sacu constitutionality at the Constitutional Court.

A Zanu-PF member who declined to be named said: “Mupfumira first appeared in court on July 25, 2019 and had been on routine remand until the end of the year since the State was not ready for trial.”

“Her trial only commenced in July 2020, but throughout the period from her arrest, there has not been significant progress in the finalisation of her case for the past two years.

She is not the only one who is in this predicament. Charges are being brought against members, but without trial and the matters are being postponed continuously.

What is worrisome is that there are several other members, who have serious corruption cases to answer, but are being exempted from facing the full wrath of the law.

“Zacc spokesperson John Makamure said there was no selective application of the law in the manner the commission was handling corruption cases.

He refuted allegations that there was interference with its functions by the Executive by Zacc, Makamure said, to delay finalisation of corruption cases, but some litigants were not keen to stand trial.

“Suspects on corruption cases are granted bail by the courts, which is their constitutional right and Zacc cannot prevent granting of bail to a suspect, in accordance with the law,” Makamure said.

“On Mupfumira’s case, there has been a perceived prolonged delay in the finalisation of her cases because she was granted bail. (She) has been submitting several applications resulting in her matter being delayed.”

This week, Makamure said Zacc was engaging the National Prosecuting Authority to ensure corruption cases are resolved quickly.

Sacu director Thabani Mpofu said: “I will not respond to that. The allegations could be raised by an accused person who is trying to exonerate him or herself outside court.”

The 2020 Transparency International Corruption Perception Index (CPI) ranked Zimbabwe 150 out of 187 highly corrupt countries after it scored 24% on corruption fighting.

The country’s institutions continue to be dysfunctional, and there are limited integrity mechanisms in place to curb corruption. Yet, the government still fails to provide basic services to citizens, and the security situation remains precarious.Last year, Harare magistrate Bianca Makwande bemoaned unnecessary delays on graft cases, adding that continued postponement of the cases would result in a gridlock of pending matters at the courts.
