Lawyers Drag Mnangagwa To The Courts

By A Correspondent-The Law of Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) has taken the Parliament of Zimbabwe to the Constitutional Court (ConCourt) seeking an order to set aside the promulgation of Constitutional Amendment No 1 and 2 Bills.

The lawyers said the two amendment were passed unconstitutionally.

Parliament passed Amendment (No 1) Bill in April, and it’s yet to be signed into law. But Constitutional Amendment (No 2) Bill which sailed through on May 4 was signed into by President Emmerson Mnangagwa on May 7.

The amendments seek to remove the presidential running mate clause and give Mnangagwa unfettered powers to appoint the Chief Justice, Deputy Chief Justice and judges without exposing them to public interviews and extending the retirement age of judges from 70 to 75.

Former Chief Justice Luke Malaba was set to benefit from the Amendment (No 2) Bill after his term was extended on Friday last week, but was overturned by the courts after Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum executive director Musa Kika and the Young Lawyers Association of Zimbabwe challenged the five-year extension.

The government has since appealed the judgment at the Supreme Court.
In the latest application filed by LSZ executive secretary Edward Mapara, Parliament is accused of acting unconstitutionally by passing a lapsed Constitutional Amendment (No 1) Bill which was brought to the House during the late former President Robert Mugabe’s era.

The organisation also accused the legislature of promulgating the Amendment (No 2) Bill without taking it to a referendum as stipulated by the Declaration of Rights.

“The Bill is invalid on the grounds that Parliament failed to fulfil constitutional obligations in that it passed a lapsed Constitutional Amendment (No 1) Bill 2017 (Constitutional Bill No 1) in violation of section 147 of the Constitution of Zimbabwe,” Mapara said.

He cited Mnangagwa, Parliament, Senate president Mable Chinomona, Speaker of National Assembly Jacob Mudenda, Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, and Attorney-General Prince Machaya as respondents.

Mapara said Parliament breached section 61(1) (a), 62(1) and (2) and 67 (2)(c) and (d) and 67(3)(a) of the Declaration of Rights.

Mupfumira Flees To SA

By A Correspondent- Former Cabinet Minister Prisca Mupfumira, has been slapped with a warrant of arrest after the court learnt that she was in South Africa on official Parliamentary business without seeking the court’s approval.

While she travelled to South Africa on Parliamentary business, Harare regional magistrate Mrs Esthere Chivasa agreed with the prosecution request that a warrant of arrest be issued after noting that Mapfumire skipped her trial date without the leave of court, although the court had ordered the release of her diplomatic passport until June 9.

The court dismissed the defence argument that since the bail conditions were modified with the consent of the State, the visit was permitted and that it was in any case on Parliamentary business, accepting that she still needed the court to approve her absence from a court hearing and that in any case the legislature and the courts were different and independent branches of the State.

Mupfumira, through her lawyer Mr Admire Rubaya, last week successfully applied for the release of the passport and relaxed her reporting conditions during the time she will be in South Africa.

When the accused passport was released the court did not give her a leave to be absent, said Mrs Chivasa when she issued the warrant of arrest against Mupfumira.

This was after the State led by Mr Tafara Chirambira applied for a warrant of arrest against Mupfumira. Mr Rubaya opposed to the State’s application saying the State had consented to the release of the passport with the court ordering for the release of her diplomatic passport from the Clerk of Court.

The accused is being tried by Chief Magistrate Mr Munamato Mutevedzi and on that account, there is no trial that is ongoing in this court.

It is critical to highlight the circumstances surrounding the non-availability of the accused.

The accused made an application for alteration of conditions.

The acting current deputy Prosecutor General Micheal Reza consented to the application in view of the Cabinet Authority letter.

Govt Says Plans Underway To Introduce Online ID Applications

By A Correspondent- ICT and Courier Services minister Jenfan Muswere yesterday said the government was putting up measures for people to apply for identification documents online.

Speaking at the launch of St Theresa-Bvekerwa communication information centre in Makoni, Muswere said: “Government is putting in place measures to make it possible for members of the public to apply for identification documents such as passports, national identity cards and birth certificates from the comfort of their homes.”

Most Zimbabweans have been struggling to secure identity documents during the COVID-19 national lockdown where most offices were closed. The minister did not explain how the system would work in rural areas where the majority are not techno savvy and digitally connected.

Muswere added: “This is also being coupled with efforts to turn our post offices into centres offering e-commerce, digital government and digital finance services as a way of making the services available within the proximity for those who do not have the necessary means for them to transact from homes.”

“I want to urge the local community of Bvekerwa and surrounding areas to make full use of the facilities we are commissioning today to uplift our lives.”

He said the government has identified ICTs as one of the pillars and cornerstones for the attainment of the objectives of the National Development Strategy blueprint which was launched by President Emmerson Mnangagwa last year.

Speaking at the same event, Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority of Zimbabwe director-general Gift Machengete said community information centres could be used as marketing tools for rural tourism.

“Tourism operators in rural areas and remote areas have a difficult time marketing their destinations through traditional media due to production costs, so CIC can be used as marketing tools to promote rural tourism and market the products of downstream industries, including home-based industries,” he said.-newsday

Family Collects Wrong Body From Mortuary, Realises Mistake Just Before Burial

By A Correspondent- A Harare family last week mistakenly processed a burial order and organised funeral rites for an unidentified man whom they mistook for their presumed dead relative, Enock Foya.

The family only realised shortly before burial that they had collected the wrong body.

It later turned out that Enock whom they presumed dead, was recuperating at Sally Mugabe Hospital after being knocked down by a car at Mbare Musika three weeks ago.

According to Freddy Foya, his brother Enock went missing for about three weeks. Freddy said he was later informed that a man only identified as Foya had been hit by a bus on April 30 along Seke Road and died on the spot.

The accident victim, NewsDay Weekender heard, had no identity documents on him. The bus driver later gathered from people at Mbare Musika that the deceased was only identified as Foya. He went to Mbare Police Station where he reported the accident.

Last week on Wednesday, Freddy then identified the wrong corpse at Harare Hospital mortuary, after being told that his younger brother was the one who was crushed by the bus.

“I am the one who mistakenly identified the man as my younger brother since there was too much light in the mortuary,” Freddy said.

“The man looked similar to my brother. On Friday last week when we were about to collect the body after we had done all the necessary arrangements, that is when we discovered that it was not Enoch’s.”

Enoch is still receiving treatment at the health facility after sustaining injuries on his left leg.

By A Correspondent- Top government officials at the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, are reportedly scuttling foreign direct investment (FDI) into Zimbabwe’s economy by soliciting bribes from potential investors, a government investigation report seen by The Zimbabwe Independent has revealed.

Social Media Reports Of Chitungwiza Ritual Killings Not True: Police

CIRCULATING OF IMAGES ON SOCIAL MEDIA ON ALLEGED CHILD KILLINGS IN CHITUNGWIZA

The Zimbabwe Republic Police wishes to advise members of the public that the images circulating on social media platforms purporting that a child was killed in Chitungwiza are false and doctored.

Investigations have revealed that the images are of the double murder incident which occurred in Nyanga on 14th April 2021 at Sambaza Village, Chief Mutasa where two minors, Deloney Benza (07) and Melissa Benza (07), were murdered whilst they were coming from school. The case is now before the courts with the suspects on remand.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police is equally disturbed by the motive of the individual or groups who are circulating these images or linking them to alleged killings in Chitungwiza.

Surely the Police do not think that it is fair for any individual or groups to continue to circulate images that traumatise the Benza family and in the process cause alarm and despondency in the country.

It is not good for anyone to be obsessed with social media to an extent of copying images and then try to send false messages locally and internationally.

The Police urge the public to use social media responsibly.

Guruve Council Boss Nabbed For Corruption

Guruve Rural district Council Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Tinos Marisa was arrested by Zimbabwe Anti Corruption Commission (ZACC) on Friday.

He was dragged to Guruve magistrate court on Saturday on graft allegations where he appeared before magistrate Geraldine Mutsotso.

Mutsotso granted him $10 000 bail to June 10.

The state alleged that he corruptly authorized the sell of stands in Guruve from 2016 to 2020.

Another Power Tariff Hike Looms

Energy deputy minister Magna Mudyiwa has told Parliament that the Zimbabwe Electrical Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) is considering hiking tariffs to raise money for operations, including acquisition of new service vehicles.

Mudyiwa made the remarks on Wednesday while responding to questions by MPs on the ministry’s plan on purchase of vehicles for ZETDC maintenance works.

“We are looking at reviewing the tariffs and if that review is granted, then ZETDC can have funds to purchase the much needed vehicles for their operations,” Mudyiwa said.

“The debtors who owe huge amounts to ZETDC are mostly local authorities which we cannot switch off to enforce payment, some government departments and some few domestic users, but we cannot increase the tariffs.”

She added: “While we are working on how we can collect our revenue from our usual debtors, being local authorities, we cannot switch off local authorities for humanitarian purposes.

“We are not penalising those citizens, but the operational costs have gone up, economics tells us that everything has gone up since last year.”

She also bemoaned vandalism of power infrastructure “All those copper cables are being targeted by the vandals and that is one set back that ZETDC is going through.

“They are failing to replace the copper cables that have been stolen. It is an exercise that is going on to try and replace those cables with the aluminium cables,” she said.

Prepare for Devastating Matabeleland Breakaway as Zimbabwe Votes against UN Measures to Stop Genocide

Map of Mthwakazi

On Tuesday 18 May Zimbabwe demonstrated before the people of Matabeleland and the world that it cherishes its genocidal past without any remorse when it voted against a UN Assembly measure that seeks to protect vulnerable populations against genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.

This shows that the blood thirst and vampiric Zimbabwe Shona supremacist state is proud of its genocidal background and wants to continue with wanton slaughter of innocent Matabele people.

All eyes in Matabeleland were on the Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe to see if it was really prepared to stop its evil culture of genocide and gross human rights abuse against Matabeles. But Zimbabwe and its partner in crime, North Korea, its Hutu blood relative, Burundi and 12 other rogue states voted against the UN measure to stop genocide.

This has exposed its suspicious “exhume and rebury” exercise to be performed on Matabeleland genocide victims in Matabeleland as “Phariseeist hypocrisy” designed to deceive Matabele people and the world into believing that the terrorist government was committed to resolving Matabeleland genocide issue.

We always knew that Emmerson Mnangagwa who is now known as the Undertaker for his strange interest in digging Matabeleland genocide graves as well as his predecessor’s grave, Robert Mugabe, was never interested in resolving Matabeleland genocide issue but wanted to get rid of Matabeleland genocide evidence.

He cannot say he is committed to resolving Matabeleland genocide but at the same time vote against a UN measure that seeks to protect vulnerable minorities from being butchered through genocides and ethnic cleansing.

To us Matabele people, the survivors of Matabeleland genocide, Mnangagwa’s message is loud and clear:

i) he is not interested in resolving Matabeleland genocide

ii) his oppressive Shona supremacist government is not prepared to provide security to the vulnerable populations of Matabeleland who are survivors of Matabele genocide

iii) he wants us to remain open to human slaughter and genocide by any future Shona supremacist government

iv) he wants us to live in fear of the second Matabeleland genocide so that we submit ourselves under oppressive Shona tribal rule forever

We advise the money loving Judases of our times in Matabeleland who are currently assisting the Zimbabwe government to erase Matabeleland genocide by digging genocide graves to open their eyes and see that they are being manipulated through money and used to get rid of Matabeleland genocide evidence.

This calls for all the people of Matabeleland who have suffered and continue to suffer genocide at the hands of this tribalist government to realise that the genocidairs are unremorseful, unrepentant and hellbent on wiping out Matabele nation. And that Matabeleland genocide 2 is on its way as long Matabele people remain under Zimbabwe.

To them, the cold blooded slaughter of more than 40 000 innocent Matabele civilian masses, raping
of more than 100 000 Matabele women, burning down of more than 100 000 Matabele homes, displacement of more than 1 million Matabele people and tribal oppression of 5 million Matabele people who remain in Zimbabwe was not enough.

They will never stop up and until Matabele nation is completely annihilated and only when the Shona tribes which regard themselves as superior than others, take over Matabeleland and remain the only living tribes in Zimbabwe and Matabeleland.

This dangerous situation demands that all Matabele people unite behind Matabeleland Liberation Organisation (MLO) to fight for the restoration of Matabeleland state as at 3 November 1893 using all means possible, demand US $100 billion from the government of Zimbabwe as compensation for Matabeleland genocide.

Where the broke Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe will source the above mentioned amount of money is none of our business. That the amount is too high is none of our business too.

To the majority people of Matabeleland we say, the road to independence is a bit rough. The oppressor will have to scream a bit but there are good returns, the ultimate reward is freedom.

To the sellouts we say, some of you have already exposed themselves while some are yet to be discovered. You cannot be a member of 20 rival political organizations and expect that people of Matabeleland are so stupid to see that you are playing games, hey you traitorous nomad people can see through you!

You cannot release more than 500 statements in which you contradict yourself many times and still fool yourself that Matabele people will not see that you are a sellout. You cannot vomit and turn around to eat your own vomit and hope the people of Matabeleland will not see that you are a sellout idiot. You cannot attack Matabeleland cause and the oppressed Matabeles everyday on behalf of your master in Harare and expect them praise you. No no no! The necklace is the only deserving reward that shall be given to you. A sellout is a low life not respected even by its own master. We shall never lose sleep or apologise for rewarding a traitor accordingly.

Give us Matabeleland independence or death!

You slaughtered Matabele people like goats now its pay back time.

Gold Miner Accuses Court Officials Of Failing Justice

A GOLD miner, who was attacked and robbed by armed robbers in December last 2018, has approached Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi for the second time accusing court officials of failing to bring the matter to trial three years on.

In a letter of complaint dated May 18, addressed to the PG, Madzivanzira through his lawyer Blessing Zihanzu, said he was shocked that the State failed to handle the trial despite having ample time to do so.

“According to the investigating officer Detective Saurove of CID Homicide, Harare, the trial date was provided on March 4, 2021. What it entails is that the State had two months to prepare for the trial,” Zihanzu said.

He said a co-accused, Valentine Mutasa, from whom the complainant’s pistol was recovered, was not even served with the summons to attend trial.

In January this year, Madzivanzira wrote his first letter demanding trial date for the matter.

“It appears there is deliberate ploy by the officers involved in this matter to give the accused persons the opportunity to be granted bail or to be removed from remand so that they will never have their day in court in respect of our client’s case.”

According to court papers, on December 22, 2018, at around 8pm, Madzivanzira and family arrived home in Ruwa from his mine in Mutoko. After entering the gate, about seven men approached him, produced a rifle and two pistols demanding gold and cash.

The accused ransacked his vehicle, took away two buttons of gold weighing 589,58g, US$1 517, seven cellphones and a pistol.

The robbers threatened to rape Madzivanzira’s daughter demanding to be led to the cash vault. They also destroyed the family’s CCTV camera system, alarms and deflated tyres of the family’s vehicles.

A report was made at Ruwa Police Station under CR 189/12/18.

On January 15, 2019, detectives arrested some of the suspects, leading to the recovery of the pistol which Madzivanzira positively identified as his.

The suspects were identified as George Machanyangwa (37), Crispen Matiyenga (32), Valentine Mutasa (28), Solomon Nyamukondiwa (32) and Moydne Nyambuya (34). The value of stolen goods was pegged at US$37 109, 36 and only the firearm was recovered.

3 Years Later Mnangagwa Promises Looters Will Be Arrested Soon | TRUTH or NONSENSE?

More than 1 800 individuals and corporates who were linked to externalising nearly US$1 billion by contravening exchange control regulations will soon be hauled before the courts..

Prosecutor-General Mr Kumbirai Hodzi is presently assembling a team of specialist commercial lawyers to prepare for the cases, which could possibly lead to forfeiture of assets belonging to those who would have been convicted.

In 2018, Emerson Mnangagwa published a list of individuals and corporates who had failed to heed his call to repatriate the externalised funds after the expiration of a three-month amnesty.

The list of shame categorised the looters in three broad categories — those who externalised funds through failure to repatriate export proceeds; payment of imports not received in Zimbabwe; and funds stashed in foreign banks in cash or under spurious circumstances.

It also included 1 844 corporates and individuals in mining, agriculture, manufacturing and cross-border freight.

From US$1,4 billion that was spirited out of the country, US$591,1 million was recovered through the amnesty, while $826,5 million remains outstanding.

PG Hodzi told The Sunday Mail that specialist lawyers will look through individual cases.

“The PG’s Office is establishing a panel of experts on some of the anti-corruption matters,” he said.

“You remember when the President came into office he released a list of persons who had violated our exchange control regulations, and we gave them a grace period to come clean.

“Well, those that seek to exploit the good grace of the Executive and think they can get away with it are mistaken. We have a panel of lawyers that is going to come, which is going to look at each and every one of those cases.

“We are setting up a panel of expert commercial lawyers who are specialists in that area, who will look into those cases ahead of prosecution. . .”

He said authorities will not hesitate to forfeit assets deemed to be proceeds of crime. A multi-agency taskforce, he added, has been assembled to tackle economic crimes.

“The bottom line is that there are going to be very robust prosecutions, which are unapologetic, and the results will speak for themselves.

“There will be super-efficiency in the PGs Office because we know these persons will do anything to protect their livelihood and means of survival through corruption, which is a multibillion-dollar industry in Zimbabwe.

“You can see the mansions they are building but they are not paying their taxes, the cars which people are driving on the roads but when you investigate them you will find that they would not have paid any taxes.”

It is believed that most of the externalised funds were channelled to China, Botswana and South Africa.

Announcing the list, President Mnangagwa said: “It is against this background that the authorities have no other recourse to cause these entities and individuals to respond other than to publicise them so that concerned parties take heed of the importance of good corporate governance and the legal obligations of citizenry, and where necessary to ensure that those responsible for such illicit financial flows are brought to justice.”

The NPA has so far seized assets valued at over US$13 million found to be proceeds of criminal activities.

A further US$30 million worth of assets have been frozen pending confiscation proceedings at the High Court. –Sunday Mail

Zanu PF Can’t Revive Economy

Country Is Under Siege-MDC Alliance

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance Assembly Of Women has implored citizens to register to vote as the persecution of political activists escalates…

This was said during a strategic meeting held by the MDC Alliance UK and Ireland Assembly Of Women on Wednesday.

The MDC Alliance Assembly of Women stressed the need for massive voter education during the meeting.

Read statement below:

MDC Alliance UK & Ireland Assembly of Women
Hosted by UK & Ireland Province AOW Chair Hellena Gusinyu…

Speakers included:
National AOW Spokesperson, Barbara Gwanyanya

Middle East AOW Chair, Miriam Mutombo

North District AOW member, Olive Ruvimbo Ruzvidzo

UK and Ireland AOW Vice Organising Secretary Gladys Meck

UK and Ireland AOW Communications Secretary Luton Branch, Tsitsi Nyirongo (Prayer)

UK and Ireland AOW Wales branch, Kata Richards (Prayer)

The UK & Ireland AOW Chair in her address highlighted that her role works in collaboration with the Assembly of Women team and includes the promotion of all-round development of women and supporting them in building their capacity and confidence, this includes preparing women for leadership positions in not only within the Assembly of Women but also in the main party structures as well as national public positions.

Elections 2023:
The AOW UK & Ireland are very focused on 2023 Elections. There was consensus on the need to support the efforts towards voter education and voter registration as well as Polling agents who are a critical resource during voting. The ‘Red Wednesday’ events are also targeting support for young people who will be eligible to vote in 2023, who need to be aware of what they need to do to register and why it’s important to do so. Their participation is important, it will give them the opportunity to elect the leadership they want, and which will help move the country forward to create a better future for all.

Rural communities were another area of focus. Whilst the MDC Alliance performed well in the 2018 elections, there was need to do more to increase margins come 2023 and to achieve the goals of AOW, they agreed all diaspora AOW teams should come together and support.

Death of democracy:
It was noted that Zimbabwe is in a crisis and witnessing the death of democracy. The Constitutional Amendment No. 2 enacted into law marks another moment of authoritarian consolidation in Zimbabwe.

Because the current regime cannot govern with consent, they are becoming reliant on force and extra-legal mechanisms.

In a normal functioning democracy, any changes to the Constitution would involve the people – the stakeholders of the constitution, they would give consent, but this is not the case in Zimbabwe, the people’s wishes are trampled on and its rule by force.

Human Rights Abuses and targeted persecutions:
There are high levels cases of human rights abuses perpetrated against political and human rights activists, notably the imprisonment of Makomborero Haruzivishe which is an unhealthy precedent set by the regime, this trend will continue if unstopped. There are many ongoing court cases, and the world has been alerted to these abuses.

The spotlight is on the continued unwarranted intimidation and persecution of the MDCA trio Hon Joanah Mamombe, Ldrs Cecillia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova, National Youth Assembly Chair, Obey Sithole not forgeting the long term incarcerated political prisoners – Last Maengehama and Tungamirai Madzokere.

The persecutions against women have an impact on female participation in politics. We need to see more women in leadership posts, what is challenging in Zimbabwe is that the young female politicians who are standing up and fighting for change are being targeted by the regime. This will lead to women’s lack of interest in pursuing politics as a career.

Patriotic Bill:
Very sadly, we are faced with another challenge, the Patriotic Bill. This will seek to muzzle the people even further, and people won’t be able to challenge or speak out against the regime. There will be targeted efforts to persecute opposition political activists as well as human rights defenders and those working in the media sector. We have seen how this is already impacting with the arrests of activists/journalists who speak out against corruption and misgovernance.

Call to action:
To our viewers and readers, what is happening in Zimbabwe is an outrage, our country is under siege and we need to join together to fight this. You must be outraged too. The need to ‘Act’ was strongly called for by Leader Ruzvidzo, we must become active upstanders who speak out against this violation of human rights and our constitution.

The People’s Movement at the core of its heart is defending citizens interests through policies such as Agenda2021 in which we set our position and response to the Zimbabwe crisis, the “Citizens Convergence for Change”: calls on people to act in unity, to come together and speak with one voice – be part of that voice: don’t be left behind.

As citizens, we need to come together in unity. Agenda2021 has a clear call to action, to speak with one voice, act and win Zimbabwe for change.

There is Power in Unity!

Govt Promises New Pay For Civil Servants

A technical team constituted by the Government is set to table a report this week that will determine a new salary offer that will be taken by the employer to its workers as negotiations over civil servants remuneration continue.

In March, Government and its employees reached a deadlock after failing to agree on a new salary structure after the employer tabled a 25 percent salary increase, with a promise to further increase salaries periodically.

Although there was a deadlock, the Government in May effected the adjustment that saw the lowest paid worker being paid US$205 equivalent on the interbank exchange rate in April, while another 45 percent review will be effected at the end of June.

Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Professor Paul Mavima told Sunday News yesterday that technical personnel were preparing a report after which Government will be able to table another offer to civil servants.

“For now, our technical people are compiling a report on the issue, once it is done we will look at it as a ministry then we go back to the negotiating table with Government workers. As you might know this will be the third session of these negotiations, therefore, we are hopeful that this time around we will reach an agreement for progress sake,” said Prof Mavima.

Some civil servants such as teachers responded by unilaterally reducing the number of days they were reporting for duty claiming incapacitation. The Government then came up with a policy of no work no pay. Prof Mavima said he did not have figures offhand of the number of civil servants who have since received reduced salaries due to absenteeism.

“Those are technical matters, as Government we came up with the policy and in terms of implementing, that part is done by the Public Service Commission,” said the Minister.

Meanwhile, civil servants and vendors who form a huge chunk for people on the housing waiting list are set to benefit from high-rise residential accommodation units in that will be built in Bulawayo and other parts of the country. Cabinet has since approved the Zimbabwe Human Settlements Policy (2020) whose bearing evolves around facilitating the provision of affordable housing and social amenities, infrastructure in urban and rural areas, developing and monitoring National Housing Demand Database.

The policy also talks about densification and it specifically indicates that 40 percent of the construction that the Government or private sector will engage on, must be on densification which means having high rise buildings as land is not finite.

The Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities has been meeting stakeholders and partners throughout the country to find workable solutions to reduce the numbers on the housing waiting lists and also to ensure that people have access to affordable housing.

National Housing and Social Amenities Deputy Minister Cde Yeukai Simbanegavi who was in Bulawayo last week said the Government was in the process of engaging stakeholders who will partner it in delivering the housing units.

“We are here today meeting the Resident Minister of State Cde Judith Ncube to discuss on the modalities as Government working on provision of social housing for Bulawayo Province. We are working on ensuring that the housing backlog that is in Bulawayo Province of about 20 000 units is worked on and Government has come up with a variety of programmes that include the Government itself trying to make sure that houses are built,” she said.

She said apart from funding from Government they still needed partners to aid in the massive projects.

“We have had a budget of $1.3 billion coming in from Treasury nationwide. In terms of provision of social housing, Government cannot go it alone so we have also come up with programmes of partnering up with the private sector.

We are looking at our own local institutions that include local authorities and private partners. We have met with some partners to find ways of working together. Local authorities and private institutions can further discuss the modalities on partnerships for building houses for our residents that do not earn high incomes including vendors,” she added.

Cde Simbanegavi said there have been concerns raised over civil servants as most of them do not have decent accommodation.

“These kinds of programmes we have brought to the city will also aim at ensuring that our civil servants can also be able to have access to decent accommodation where they can be able to build houses for themselves and their families or have already built affordable houses that they can also be able to buy on payment plans so that as people who work for the Government, they can become property owners and to have accommodation that is closer to their working areas,” she added.

Cde Simbanegavi said it was vital to adhere to the demands of the Human Settlements Policy which advocates for high rise building construction so as to conserve land.

“If we keep building houses everywhere, the land is eventually going to become scarce for further generations. The issue of high-rise buildings is very critical for the New Dispensation, we will make sure that every project that is done will also look at the possibility of having high rise structures,” she said.

Cde Ncube said there was a need for strong partnerships to ensure that the vision is achieved.

“Our role as Government is to facilitate the process, we have brought the bank and the local authority today so that we look into this critical issue of housing in Bulawayo. In our discussions we are saying let the players meet and discuss further, as Government we need results, we would want to closely monitor the programme. I want to assure residents that once everything is done, they will be happy with the developments,” said Cde Ncube.

Under the National Development Strategy 1 (2021-2025) housing delivery priority area, Government is looking at delivering 220 000 housing units and Bulawayo Metropolitan Province has a provisional target of 20 000 units. -Sunday News

MDC Alliance Assembly Of Women Implores Citizens To Register To Vote

Ramaphosa Assigns New Envoy To Zim

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa has appointed African National Congress (ANC) national executive council member (NEC) and former Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture, Rejoice Thizwilondi Mabudafhasi, Ambassador-designate to Zimbabwe.

She will replace Ambassador Mphakama Mbete, who concluded his mission to Zimbabwe earlier this year.

This was revealed by South Africa’s Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Dr Naledi Pandor when she met Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Ambassador Frederick Shava in Cape Town on Friday.

Amb Shava was on the last leg of a three-nation tour that also covered Botswana and Namibia, where he was meeting his SADC counterparts.

According to a joint statement released following the meeting, the two ministers pledged to strengthen bilateral ties between Harare and Pretoria.

“Minister Pandor welcomed the Zimbabwean delegation to South Africa and reiterated her commitment to forging stronger ties and working relations with Minister Shava,” reads the statement.

“Minister Pandor informed her Zimbabwean counterpart of the appointment of new South African head of mission to Zimbabwe, Ambassador-designate Rejoice Thizwilondi Mabudafhasi, the former Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture.”

Ms Mabudafhasi served as the Deputy Minister of Arts and Culture between May 2014 and March 2017.

Prior to that, she had served as Deputy Minister of Water and Environmental Affairs for five years up to 2014.

She is a member of ANC NEC since December 2007 and has served as a chairperson of the Mvula Trust board – a local NGO involved in development of rural communities.

The two ministers agreed to convene the next round of the Bi-National Commission (BNC) in South Africa next year.

“The ministers further agreed that a Ministerial Mid-Term Review (MTR) meeting in 2021 in preparation for the BNC in 2022 would be arranged.

“The MTR would be important to assess and review in more detail the existing agreements between the two countries, those that are still under negotiations and progress on the implementation of signed ones.” – Sunday Mail

Man Killed For Selling Stolen Dog

THREE Chipinge men allegedly teamed up to fatally assault a fellow villager for selling a stolen dog to one of them.

The incident took place in Chief Mutema’s area last week on Sunday and the trio — Clemence Chibvepi, Christopher Chibvepi and Martin Dube — are reported to have taken turns to assault Lucky Tsegure with sticks and logs all over his body.

Tsegure sustained serious head injuries and bled profusely, thereby resulting in his death.

The three suspects allegedly dumped the body along the banks of Budzi River.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the murder and said a manhunt for the trio has since been launched as they disappeared from the scene after committing the offence.

“Tsegure sold a dog to Clemence and they finalised the deal amicably. Days later, Clemence learnt that the dog had been stolen from a fellow villager, a Chimene.

“Clemence, his brother Christopher and a friend, Martin Dube went for a beer binge and met Tsegure and his friend Solomon Mudimba.

“A misunderstanding ensued between Clemence and Tsegure with the former accusing the latter of selling him a stolen dog. Onlookers unsuccessfully tried to restrain the enraged Clemence.

“Clemence, Christopher and Dube teamed up and dragged Tsegure from the homestead to Budzi River about 3km away. They took turns to assault him with sticks and logs. They dragged the badly injured Tsegure to the river bank and dumped him there,” said Inspector Chananda.

On May 13, Bothwell Sithole (24) discovered Tsegure’s body.

Inspector Chananda appealed to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the trio to contact their nearest police station.

Meanwhile, an axe-wielding 35-year-old Rusape man, Milton Chihobo, is on the run after he gruesomely murdered his wife, Martha Chinawa (43), over a love text message he had seen in the latter’s phone.

Inspector Chananda confirmed the murder which happened in Chief Chiduku’s area.

“An infuriated Chihobo who was armed with an axe confronted Chinawa about the issue but she failed to give a satisfactory answer. He chopped her on the left cheek and the back of her head with an axe. She sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. Chihobo vanished from the scene soon after committing the heinous act. He is still at large,” said Inspector Chananda.- Manica Post

Cheating Wife Beats Up Hubby

Daniel Mabaso from Gwabalanda suburb in Bulawayo is a heartbroken man. This is because his cheating wife Singinkosi Mabaso was in the habit of beating him up whenever he confronted her about her infidelity.

And what hurts Daniel more is that Singinkosi had since moved out of the matrimonial home to stay with one of her alleged lovers.

Before she moved out of the house, Singinkosi was always coming home late and at times sleeping out claiming that she would be at a friend’s place which her husband was not aware of.

An aggrieved Daniel poured his heart out at the Bulawayo Civil Court where he was seeking a protection order against Singinkosi claiming she was abusive towards him.

“Singinkosi Mabaso is my wife but we are no longer staying together. She moved out of the house in December 2020 after I discovered that she was cheating on me with a married man. She has been verbally and physically abusing me.

“At one time she poured a bucketful of water on me while I was sleeping on the bed. Before she moved out of the house she was always coming home late and at times she would lie that she will be sleeping at a friend’s place,” complained Daniel.

He said when he tried to reprimand her about her cheating behaviour, Singinkosi would turn violent and assault him.

“When I tried to reprimand her over her infidelity, she threatened me saying I would be assaulted or killed by unknown people. When she came to collect her clothes; she forcibly took my phone saying I owed her money. When I tried to take it back, she then stabbed me with a pair of scissors,” said Daniel.

In response Singinkosi dismissed her estranged husband’s accusations. She said Daniel was also violent towards her.

“He is also violent and we used to fight. I have a scar on my eye which he inflicted on me while we were fighting. It is not true that I stabbed him with a scissors, I prickled him with my long nails. The problem we were always fighting is that he didn’t want us to move from Gwabalanda where we were staying close to his sister’s house,” responded Singinkosi.

In her ruling presiding magistrate Nkosinomusa Ncube ordered the parties not to physically abuse each other before he referred them for counselling.

Shock As Daring Hooker Stabs Soldier

hooker stabs soldier

By A Correspondent- Commercial sex workers in Highfield have blasted their colleague who allegedly stabbed a client over the weekend.

The hooker only identified as Christine from Cannan Mahobi suburb fatally stabbed a soldier at Saratoga club at night after a misunderstanding.

“We are not happy with Christine she was not supposed to kill a client now our business is low clients are now afraid even the police are pouncing heavily on us, bar owners and our clients,” lamented Chiedza a hooker.

Another sex worker by the name Tendai said:

“No misunderstanding warrants murder in sex work this hooker has committed a serious offense and she should be prosecuted.”

Meanwhile, bars were ordered to close due to Covid-19 pandemic but some were opening in violation of the country’s lockdown measures.

Prisca Mupfumira Issued With Warrant Of Arrest

By A Correspondent- A warrant of arrest was issued yesterday for former Cabinet Minister Prisca Mupfumira, at present in South Africa on official Parliamentary business, after she failed to attend court for her trial on corruption-related offences although the State agreed last week that her bail conditions could be modified so she had her diplomatic passport back.

The accused is being tried by Chief Magistrate Mr Munamato Mutevedzi and on that account there is no trial that is on-going in this court. It is critical to highlight the circumstances surrounding the non-availability of accused.

The accused made application for alteration of conditions. The acting current deputy Prosecutor General Micheal Reza consented to application in view of Cabinet Authority letter.

PG In Soup Over Failure To Bring Robbers For Trial 3yrs On

By A Correspondent- A gold miner, who was attacked and robbed by armed robbers in December last 2018, has approached Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi for the second time accusing court officials of failing to bring the matter to trial three years on.

The value of stolen goods was pegged at US$37 109, 36 and only the firearm was recovered.-newsday

ZETDC Mulls Tariff Hike To Fund Operational Costs

By A Correspondent- Energy deputy minister Magna Mudyiwa has told Parliament that the Zimbabwe Electrical Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) is considering hiking tariffs to raise money for operations, including acquisition of new service vehicles.

She added:

“While we are working on how we can collect our revenue from our usual debtors, being local authorities, we cannot switch off local authorities for humanitarian purposes.

“Let’s Keep Our Eyes On The Ball And Don’t Be Distracted”

By Sindile Ncube- If the Zimbabwean constitution was observed correctly, the majority of the people at the top of Zanu pf would have been arrested way back in the 1980s.

The reason why this has never happened is because the judiciary is  so far deep inside the pockets of Zanu that it is used to clean up the party’s metaphorical bottom.

Recently, there has been this fake furore about the extension of tenor of that judge who legalised the 2017 coup who then went on to preside a whitewash of the ConCourt hearing about election rigging in the 2018.  I’m no law expert, and I have all the respect for all the lawyers out there who work hard defending the defenceless people in Zimbabwe.

However, I  get frustrated whenever I see Zimbabweans spending days on end quoting sections of the law and constitution in an effort  to demonstrate the illegality of Zanu’s actions in this saga.

It is frustrating because by now no one should be in any doubt that the constitution and the law in Zimbabwe is what the Zanu presidium and military says it is. The Zimbabwean judiciary is essentially Zanu’s legal department.

They are another arm of the party just like the war vets, the military, green bombers and a raft of other subsidised henchmen. The only difference is that the judges are more coherent when justifying their function in the country’s dictatorship.

Moreover, judges possess a facade of respectability from wearing those wigs and robes. But if they took off those costumes you couldn’t tell them apart from the rest of the wrinkly old men in Zanu who are ruining the country.

In fact, some of the judges are also war veterans and former soldiers which is typical of Zanu to have revolving doors between its instruments of power.

Whether a judge is given the stamp to be chief justice until they are 156 years is not the real problem. The problem is that all the top judges in this dictatorship are oversubsidised legal  enablers whose job it is to whitewash Zanu’s human rights abuses and criminality. P

eople still have fresh memories of those judges snarling and frowning during that 2018 ConCourt hearing the end of which they ignored clear evidence of electoral tampering. But the judicial isn’t completely oppressive of the Zimbabwean people all the time about everything.

No. It serves justice in some issues, but on the important issue about who rules the country and who gets to get away with criminality, the judiciary will always serve the interests of whoever is in control of Zanu.

We saw this in 2017 during the coup when Mugabe’s house was surrounded by armed soldiers. The courts somehow found an angle to say that the coup was legal because at that moment Mugabe had lost power and ED and Chiwenga were now deciding the law.

Right now there is an ongoing campaign to get people to register to vote in the 2023 election. Indeed, registering is one of the steps people should take in order to get their voices heard, but the vote will need to be secured.

One of the ways of securing the vote is to have people observing the votes,  their transportation and most importantly the tallying at ZEC HQ. This is what we democrats should be focused on, not these internal squabbles in Zanu. 2023 is not far, let’s keep our eyes on the prize.

Racial Storm Haunts Old Nic Mine

By A Correspondent- A racial storm is brewing at Old Nic Mine in Killarney suburb, Bulawayo, with black employees accusing their white South African managers of racially abusing them, among other unfair labour practices.

The Southern Eye heard that cases of victimisation, threats of retrenchments or dismissals were on the rise at the mine.

Employees cited South African nationals Andries Bredenkamp and Gina Rothner, chief executive officer and chief operations officer of stoking the racial tensions.

“We have reported our problems but it seems you are ignoring us,” read a letter of complaint addressed to the company’s managing director Mark Hughes.

“These people are given positions on the mine and we do not want them.

“They shout racially abusive language at people and we wonder why we are being treated like dogs in our own country.”

The aggrieved workers added: “We as Old Nic Mine employees are writing this letter to let you know we are tired of Bredenkamp (CEO) and Rothner (COO).

“They came as consultants but they have only caused problems; they promised to push up production but we are not going anywhere.

“They have instilled fear on employees, causing confusion within the labour force.

“They give instructions to grade 1 employees and this causes conflicts with supervisors and management.”

Both Hughes and Sethi Nyazenga, the company secretary acknowledged that the matter was being investigated.

“We are doing an investigation on that.

“I have no further comments,” Hughes said.

“Respect The Will Of The People”: ZLHR

Press Statement
22 May 2021

ON the eighth anniversary of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) urges government to respect the will of the people by fully implementing all provisions and refraining from passing amendments that undermine the founding values of Zimbabwe’s constitutional democracy.

The Constitution came into force 8 years ago on 22 May 2013 but it has not yet been fully implemented by the authorities. The failure to give effect to all of the provisions of the Constitution amounts to a flagrant disregard of the wishes of the public that are embodied in the Constitution. The Constitution was emphatically endorsed by the public through a referendum in 2013. As the supreme law of the nation, the Constitution binds the state and requires it to give effect to all of its provisions. The state’s failure to ensure that all the
provisions are implemented undermines the Constitution’s authority as the supreme law and flouts tenets of democracy. In addition, the state’s non-compliance is an affront to the rule of law.

Moreover, the state has a duty to refrain from undermining Zimbabwe’s democracy through amendments of the Constitution that disregard the founding values of the state which include the rule of law, the separation of powers and transparency. The recently passed
Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No.2) Act, 2021 (No.2 of 2021) introduced changes that significantly weakened the independence of the judiciary, participatory democracy and the separation of powers.

As a law-based organisation, ZLHR is greatly concerned by the removal of public interviews from the selection process of judges of the higher courts and the introduction of a clause which allows the President to extend the tenure of Supreme Court and Constitutional
Court judges beyond the previous retirement age of 70 years.

The removal of public interviews from the selection process of judges reduces transparency within government and the public’s participation, in contravention of the precepts of participatory democracy. Similarly, the removal of the running mates clause restricts participatory democracy to the extent that it removes the public’s ability to vote for a Vice-President as a running mate during elections. These amendments, among others that were introduced by the amendment, concentrate powers in the Executive and thereby violate the principle of separation of powers. The separation of powers is a fundamental principle of our constitutional order and the rule of law and should thus be respected by the state.

ZLHR also calls upon the state to desist from violating provisions of the Constitution. The authorities recently purported to extend the tenure of the former Chief Justice Luke Malaba, in contravention of section 328(7) of the Constitution which states that an amendment of a term-limit of any public official cannot benefit any person who occupied that office before the amendment. The High Court set aside this purported extension of the tenure of the former Chief Justice.

On this eighth anniversary of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, ZLHR urges government to;

•       Respect the will of the people that is enshrined in the Constitution by fully implementing all of the provisions of the Constitution;

•       Refrain from undermining the founding values of the Constitution and Zimbabwe’s constitutional democracy;

•       Desist from violating provisions of the Constitution.

“President Chamisa Has A Rescue Plan For Zimbabwe”

Clifford Hlatywayo…MDC Alliance deputy secretary for communication

Tinashe Sambiri|The clueless Zanu PF regime is conscious of the fact that President Nelson Chamisa will romp to victory in the 2023 Presidential Election…

Political analysts have observed that Zanu PF is determined to dismantle the MDC Alliance because the former revolutionary party has run out of progressive ideas.

According to MDC Alliance deputy spokesperson Clifford Hlatywayo, the party’s transformation agenda will open opportunities for all citizens to prosper.

“President
@nelsonchamisa
has a rescue plan for Zimbabwe. The
@mdczimbabwe
transformation agenda will open opportunities for every Zimbabwean and all hardworking citizens will prosper,” Hlatywayo wrote on Twitter.

Political analyst Dr Nyasha William Gwazemba also wrote:

“Dear @nelsonchamisa and @mdczimbabwe –
2023 you should approach all those young people who contested as independent candidates in 2018 Elections and have an alliance with them and work with them so that 2023 we don’t have split votes…

Register To Vote, Country Is Under Siege- MDC Alliance Assembly Of Women

Facts About Vector-borne Diseases…

New guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) sets essential standards to inform future research and development on genetically modified mosquitoes, particularly in addressing issues relating to ethics, safety, affordability and effectiveness.

Malaria and other vector-borne diseases, including dengue and Zika, affect millions globally. More than 400 000 people a year die from malaria alone. If proven safe, effective and affordable, genetically modified vector mosquitoes could be a valuable new tool to fight these diseases and eliminate their enormous health, social and economic burden.

The guidance framework for testing genetically modified mosquitoes, developed in partnership with TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, and the GeneConvene Global Collaborative, an initiative of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, describes best practices to ensure that the study and evaluation of genetically modified mosquitoes as public health tools is safe, ethical and rigorous.

Current strategies for limiting transmission of mosquito-borne diseases are only partially effective. New, complementary approaches are needed to close the gaps in current vector control interventions, such as effective control of outdoor biting, and to provide alternatives to manage the increasing threat of insecticide resistance. Research suggests genetically modified mosquitoes could be a powerful and cost-effective tool to supplement existing interventions.

“We urgently need innovative approaches to help control mosquito-borne diseases, which have a devastating impact around the world,” said Dr John Reeder, TDR Director. “Genetically modified mosquitoes is one such approach, but we want to be sure it’s fully and responsibly evaluated, as outlined in a recent WHO position statement.”

“Like any new public health intervention, genetically modified mosquitoes raise new questions for researchers, affected communities and other stakeholders,” said Dr Michael Santos, Director of the GeneConvene Global Collaborative.

“The updated guidance framework aims to answer these questions and help ensure that testing of genetically modified mosquitoes is as rigorous as it is for other public health products – and that it generates quality results to guide decisions about if and how these technologies are used.”

“Over the last 2 decades, we have achieved remarkable results with existing malaria control tools, averting more than 7 million deaths and 1.5 billion cases of the disease,” said Dr Pedro
Alonso, Director of the WHO Global Malaria Programme.

“However, progress towards key targets of our global malaria strategy remains off course. Genetically modified mosquitoes are one of a number of promising new tools that could help speed the pace of progress against malaria and other vector-borne diseases.”

“The incidence of dengue continues to increase and affect people in over 129 countries, so we need more sustainable vector control tools to stem the tide of dengue and other arboviral diseases and a few novel tools offer the potential to control these diseases,” said Dr Mwele Malecela, Director of the WHO Department for the Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases.

“We welcome this new guidance from WHO which will help countries suffering from mosquito-borne diseases to evaluate a promising new intervention,” said Professor Aggrey Ambali, Senior Advisor at the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD), the development agency of the African Union.

The new guidance addresses specific questions and challenges associated with research and development on genetically modified mosquitoes, including standards for decision-making about how and when testing should proceed.

By establishing a common set of expectations that is specific to genetically modified mosquitoes, the new resource will enable more informed and rigorous evaluation by researchers, developers, those responsible for regulatory and policy decisions and the people to whom these stakeholders are accountable.

The guidance builds on an earlier document published by TDR and FNIH in 2014, incorporating the latest scientific advancements related to genetic modification of mosquitoes, as well as other key updates and learnings related to safety and ethics, including:

methods for understanding the implications of genetically modified mosquitoes for human health, animal health and the environment;
increased understanding of the most effective strategies for risk assessment and stakeholder engagement;
clearer criteria for projects to proceed from one testing phase to the next, incorporating descriptions of the steps needed to safely and responsibly take genetically modified mosquito technologies – including those incorporating gene drive – into the field; and
a concrete set of safety and efficacy considerations that should be evaluated at each phase of testing, to inform decisions about further testing and implementation…

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance has denounced the prolonged detention of Youth Assembly leader Obey Sithole by the Zanu PF regime.

In a statement the MDC Alliance called for the immediate release of Obey Sithole:

The People’s Youth Chairperson @mdczimbabwe @TereraiSithole is in prison.

Illegally detained by a tired clueless regime that has no answers to the demands of the young people of Zimbabwe.

They hate and inflict pain on young people who raise their voice on behalf of others

Guruva Secondary School, Mberengwa Honoured

…….as The Supernova Stars Releases 6th Album

By Dr Tinashe Gumbo

Over the past few weeks, I have been reflecting on the work of Leonard Dembo of the Barura Express as part of my ongoing research on the late musician. In that context, when I was sampling songs by various other musicians from the internet, I was shocked to come across and listen to a song featuring my name. It was new indeed and I was fortunate to come across it when it was only a day old, fresh from the studios. The song is about Mberengwa in general and Guruva Secondary School in particular and indeed about “Chitova” and other former students of the school. In the song, Chitova is described as a law agent of the school and a source of inspiration to many people in Mberengwa. I was humbled! I felt my real value on this earth. I later learnt that the song was part of a bigger project by Gadzirai Moyo and The Supernova Stars and it had been thrown into my facebook inbox by Moyo himself. What an honour to me and the other Mberengwa leaders whose names feature in the song?

The Supernova Stars is a group that was formed in 2013 in Bulawayo. From 2016 till today, it has produced hit after hit and has just released its sixth album, Kuzvida in April 2021 through the Trutone Studios. Kuzvida , carries the song Guruva , a special dedication to Guruva High School where the band leader, Gadzirai Moyo did his secondary education between 2005 and 2010. Already, the song has become a hit in Mberengwa, where Moyo comes from. I have received about six calls from my relatives in Mberengwa’s Gaha, Keyara, Mpesi, Chingechuru, Chirambahuyo and Phoenix Business Centres alerting me of this new release from The Supernova. Obviously, it is because my name features prominently in the song, Guruva , so my relatives thought they had found a scoop to tell me.

Other names mentioned in the song are Chidoni, Muchengeti Makazvarwa, Lewis Matutu, Anatafa, Nyahando, Vatonga, Damba and others. These former Guruva Students are being associated with various tasks that they played while at the school. I am being personally honoured for being a long-time School Head Boy from 1993-1995 and also for becoming an “inspiration to many” in the Mberengwa community in my various capacities as an academic, social and economic justice activist and generally a good neighbour to many. Other Mberengwa prominent figures mentioned in the song are the Business Mogul Harrison Shoko and the Marovas.

“Remember Vatonga is Almost Handsome and there is no Doubt that Zvenyika Murombo and Misheck are a Memory to Guruva…” runs one of the chant lines in Guruva .

Gadzirai further honours all the teachers in Mberengwa and at Guruva School. He would say “AG the ekonomikos guru…” specifically referring to one of his mentors, Agony Gumbo, a well known Economics teacher in Mberengwa.

A renowned Educationist from Mberengwa, Dr Takavafira Zhou held that the beat on Guruva is similar to that of the now defunct Dynamic Brothers. A Harare Businessman who also comes from Mberengwa, Davies Shoko, advised that if well supported, The Supernova Stars can reach high levels of the likes of Dembo and others. Some listeners thought that this was Sifelilizwe “Fee” Shumba’s Pepsi Kings of the Vachibhanzi Vauya Hit of the early 2000s. Gadzirai’s voice, his rhythm and lead guitars can easily be mistaken for Sifelilizwe Shumba’s band. By the way, both Shumba and Moyo come from the same ward in Gaha and Chirambahuyo Business Centres, respectively. When I shared the song with Shumba, he felt challenged and has since offered to replicate what Moyo has done through honouring his former school through music.

Veteran Journalist, Lloyd Gumbo as well as Tapiwa Mateketa, a former student at Guruva School, have challenged Mberengwa business people and Guruva Former Student Association (GFSA) to fully support The Supernova group as it has great potential in the industry. This is a great challenge that I will personally consider in my various networks to support the group.

Music is an important part of our life as it is a way of expressing our feelings as well as emotions. Some people consider music as a way to escape from the pain of life. It gives relief and allows one to reduce the stress. Yet, a composer or musician may have more than one purpose in mind when composing/performing a piece of music. However, for this particular musician, Gadzirai, I could easily connect with his lyrics and purpose-a purpose to raise the profile of Guruva Secondary School. I share the same school with him. I saw him grow in the company of my nephew Tawanda Moyo when they played their guitar while herding our cattle along Nyororo River. Gadzirai has remained real in his life-very approachable and humble.

Other songs on Kuzvida are: Rufu (my second favourite after Guruva ), Serikweruoko , Nyoka , Mudiwa Wangu , and Kuzvida (title track). The track Kuzvida reminds all those people who look down upon others that indeed, one day they will lose everything as they are also mortal.

The albums released by The Supernova are: Gwararakurumbi (2016); Pasi Pemvura (2017); Tinochema Kuchinaya (2018); Ultimatum (2019); Mafuro Manyoro (2020) and the latest one Kuzvida (2021).

The Supernova is a nine member group: Gadzirai (Lead Vocalist and main rhythm), Fanuel Ndebele (Lead Guitarist), Wiseman Moyo (Sub rhythm), Gideon Wonder (Bass) and Pieman Chinyani (Drums) while other members perform various other duties.

ZLHR STATEMENT ON THE 8th ANNIVERSARY OF THE CONSTITUTION

On this eighth anniversary of the Constitution of Zimbabwe, ZLHR urges government to;

•       Respect the will of the people that is enshrined in the Constitution by fully implementing all of the provisions of the Constitution;

•       Refrain from undermining the founding values of the Constitution and Zimbabwe’s constitutional democracy;

•       Desist from violating provisions of the Constitution.

Warrant Of Arrest For Prisca Mupfumira Over Failure To Attend Trial

By A Correspondent- A warrant of arrest was issued yesterday for former Cabinet Minister Prisca Mupfumira, at present in South Africa on official Parliamentary business, after she failed to attend court for her trial on corruption-related offences although the State agreed last week that her bail conditions could be modified so she had her diplomatic passport back.

Govt Mulls Online ID Applications

PG Hauled To Court Over Failure To Bring To Court Known Robbers

By A Correspondent- A gold miner, who was attacked and robbed by armed robbers in December last 2018, has approached Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi for the second time accusing court officials of failing to bring the matter to trial three years on.

The value of stolen goods was pegged at US$37 109, 36 and only the firearm was recovered.-newsday

ZETDC Mulls Tariff Hike

By A Correspondent- Energy deputy minister Magna Mudyiwa has told Parliament that the Zimbabwe Electrical Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC) is considering hiking tariffs to raise money for operations, including acquisition of new service vehicles.

She added:

“While we are working on how we can collect our revenue from our usual debtors, being local authorities, we cannot switch off local authorities for humanitarian purposes.

“The Judiciary In Zanu Pf’s Pockets”

“Keep These Cabinet Minutes A Secret”- To Others We Are A Laughing Stock !!!

By Tinashe Eric Muzamhindo- This is not the cabinet’s role. What’s going on gentlemen and ladies? Cabinet ‘ s role is to drive development agenda and policy formulation.

What you discussed belongs to a devolution council, local Government Board, and private sector player facility The role of cabinet is simple, to ensure smooth flow of policy formulation.

Honestly , some of these minutes should never be made public. I’m very disappointed after going through measures put in place by the entire cabinet of Zimbabwe, on reducing traffic congestion in Harare.

Honestly speaking, we have men and women, highly profiled, seating in the cabinet chambers, to discuss about the issue of working hard on mbudzi roundabout? Is Harare , Mbudzi roundabout? Does purchasing of buses reduce congestion in the entire Zimbabwe?

We have a cabinet comprised of learned lawyers, business Community, medical personnel, honestly to sit in a 24 hour cabinet meeting to come up with such hogwash recommendations?

Where is our country going? I’m literally disappointed, and I’m sure the President is to retire with honesty legacy, he must relieve the whole cabinet and come up with a proper team.

Here is my two cents advice ;

1. Establish a devoution Committee comprising of Harare City Council officials, business Community, corporate world leaders, technical sound people, ZINARA, Development practitioners, engineers, town planners, and come up with a proper plan on how to re-design the town NB : don’t limit solutions to cabinet chambers only. There are people with solutions , knowledge, understanding out there. Consult others, remove selfishness, at the end after consultation, credit goes to you, because you are the driver of the seat. Learn to consult, citizen’s perspective is critical on such decisions.

2. We need spaghetti roads We can’t run away from that, it’s a fact, the town is expanding, and our reasoning capacity must expand, we also need expansion of brains in the cabinet. Purchasing of ZUPCO buses is not a solution, unless you tell me, someone is looting through the facility. The money could be channeled to expansion of roads. We can have five spaghetti roads right from five different directions of the entire city, and this will increase advancement of technology, infrastructure Development improvement etc.

3. Technical sound people – Exchange programs & fellowship We should be sending technical sound people to go to countries like Rwanda, Kenya, South Africa and many other countries, to see how they have done their roads. We also need that kind of urban planning. Instead of limiting decision making to cabinet only, incorporate others to be part of strategic thinking , and this will improve our country.

4. Development partnership Government must partner with private sector on these projects. The major challenge is that they are few people who want to benefit in every project, even small projects, like two kilometer road facility networking project. Why can’t you give away these projects to private sector? The challenge is that we have Cabinet Ministers who want to be part of every project released by the Government, and they don’t want any participation from anyone else, other than themselves. We need broader alliance perspective on infrastructure development. Let’s come up with proposals to deal with such a crisis. Open the gates for everyone to participate in economic revival strategy of our country.

5. Amount of purchasing of ZUPCO buses is not sustainable Why can’t you take the 100 million United States Dollars, and open at least five roads which leads to the main CBD? Honestly , you tell me that you go into the Munhumutapa boardroom, spend 15 hours to go and discuss about purchasing of ZUPCO buses??? It’s not adding up. We need spaghetti roads around Harare city, and make use of that money to expand the town

6. Development partnership Liberalize the economy. Ideas must come from everywhere, don’t limit ideas to yourselves. Citizen’s perspective is critical, for our country’s focused thinking solutions. Allow other players to be part of decision making processes in Zimbabwe.

7. Councils must not be enemy of progress Formulate devolution councils, and make use of those councils. Incorporate them in key decisions. Actually the cabinet should not be discussing such issues, it is the role of the councils, or establishment of devolution councils which comprise of local Government officials, Harare city council officials, ZINARA, Urban Development planners, engineers etc. The role of cabinet is to push for policy formulation.

8. Funding When Development partnership, liberalization, public partnerships is there, then funding is not even difficult. There is no need for treasury to be funding this project. For what purpose? This can be done through private sector, and they can even manage their own fund. Why is it that every time, projects like these involve treasury?

9. Mbuya Nehanda project was supposed to come after spaghetti roads expansion. Honestly, to go around and tell the whole world that you have used 100 million on Mbuya Nehanda project, it’s a surprise to everyone. Do you really care about the welfare of citizens out there? Do we really need the project at the moment? Was it a priority?

10. Zambia should be our case study Go to our neighbouring country, Zambia and see what they have done in Lusaka. They have opened more than four spaghetti roads around Lusaka city. His Excellency, Edgar Lungu, officially opened the roads, and this was a major boost to their economy. We have nothing to show in Harare, there is serious congestion, most people get home as late as 2200 hrs searching for transport. We only hear on ZTV that Government has purchased over 150 buses, practically on the ground, it can not be proven.

Last but not least, if you go around and make an Impact Assessment on the roads done so far , we have literally become a laughing stock around the world. You look at the roads, you simply conclude that kids were playing with mud to come up with such a road, then the next thing, you open a newspaper, and find out that five million dollars ( USD), was paid for that road construction.

Are we really serious with our country? Look at the Christmas pass road, one former Cabinet Minister, was given a tender to do the road, and he used a lot of pit sand, and gravel, the next thing, he was paid over 20 million for that dummy job.

Today he is seen with poshy cars, living large, you see? We are purchasing those buses, in exchange of what? Where is the money coming from? What are we benefitting from the deal? There is no enough disclosure on the nature of these deals.

We need disclosure on the nature of the deals. At the end, we will end up mortgaging our country to foreigners. Who is benefitting from what? It’s not yet clear, on the framework of these ZUPCO buses.

From my understanding, there are two major companies who are involved in these deals, Sakunda Holdings, and Fossils, and this complicates the whole process of clarity and accountability of Government resources.

It further implicates individuals whose names have been tainted on Government funds, ranging from Command Agriculture, and many other shady deals. Open the economy to everyone !!!

FULL TEXT- LEAD Press Statement On R2P

21 May 2021

This world will never be free unless the United Nations (UN) is called to order together with it’s shameful captors. When you see a whole electoral Chief intimidating election participants it can be deduced that the referee was not neutral at all and we begin to wonder why.

Progressive minds received another shock of their lives when we woke up to a tweet by the UN Watch to the effect that some countries made up something called the LIST OF SHAME for trying to defend and protect their territorial integrity.

The 15 countries which include Zimbabwe voted NO to the UN General Assembly resolution on the Responsibility to Protect.

In as much as it might look as if the countries tried to justify and or protect human rights abuses or anything of that sort, it must be considered that international relations will always be governed by selfish national interests.

Taking notes from the Libyan case study it is also evident that wherever this R2P resolution is implemented, citizens are always left in a more dire situation than the original situation.

The so called late Libyan dictator Muammer Gadaffi is gone but no peace has been achieved, instead the situation on the ground has become more miserable and volatile than what was initially there.

If anything, all African and Asian countries must vote NO to all UN resolutions on their sister countries. UN security council must reform first and treat all countries as equals. They will never fix anything we are facing in Africa when they protect each other.

The U.S. has done the worst Human Rights abuses in the world but the UN watch will never take them to court for that. They sponsor a lot of wars and chaos everywhere including the Democratic Republic of Congo, creating a conducive environment for systematically orchestrated looting.

Zimbabwe is on sanctions without a UN resolution, infact the UN declared these sanctions illegal yet there has been no attempt whatsoever to protect Zimbabwe’s sovereignty. The world must wake up now or never to see how much we celebrate death of our integrity and sovereignty in search for captured foreign democracy whose outcomes we don’t even know.

In December 2020 the United States and other countries including the UK voted NO in rejection to an end to Racial Discrimination and inequality and no List Of Shame was published.

Now that the NO’s have gone against white man’s interests it becomes shameful to present opposing views.

Conclusively, it can be deduced that in this instance the NO votes are a way of saying you cause wars and conflicts for your personal gain hence the need to rethink the responsibility of reconciliation commission and work things out on our own.

“Israel Defence Forces Are Inflicting Unacceptable Material Damage On News Organisations”: RSF

Targeted Israeli airstrikes have destroyed the premises of 23 Palestinian and international media outlets in the Gaza Strip in the past ten days.

Those destroyed by last Saturday’s airstrikes include the bureaux of the US news agency, the Associated Press, and the Qatari TV broadcaster Al Jazeera.

What the Israeli military has claimed, namely that the buildings destroyed in these attacks were legitimate military targets because of an alleged Hamas presence, is completely false from the legal viewpoint because these buildings were also housing civilians, in this case, journalists and their installations and equipment.

RSF maintains that, by deliberately destroying media infrastructure, the Israeli military violated Resolution 2222 on the protection of journalists, which the UN Security Council unanimously adopted in May 2015, as well as the Geneva Conventions and the Rome Statute (applicable to the Palestinian Territories)*.

The Israel Defence Forces are inflicting unacceptable material damage on news organisations and, more broadly, are obstructing media coverage of a conflict that directly affects the civilian population.

RSF has formally asked International Criminal Court chief prosecutor Fatou Bensouda to investigate these airstrikes, which we regard as war crimes.

Thank you for your valuable support

Mistaken Identity Gone Wrong, As Family Process Funeral Rites For Recuperating Relative

ED Violates Own Covid-19 Rules

President Emmerson Mnangagwa greets supporters of his ruling ZANU PF party gather for an election rally in Chinhoyi, Zimbabwe, July 17, 2018. REUTERS/Philimon Bulawayo – RC1A80283490

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday defied COVID-19 safety protocols set by his government after he gathered thousands of people for a cultural event in Gokwe South, hours before his Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, who doubles as Health minister, placed City of Kwekwe under a 14-day lockdown following the outbreak of the much-feared Indian variant of the disease in the Midlands city.

The B.1.617 variant was detected in Kwekwe last week after it claimed the life of Robson Kadenhe (76) and infected nine people he came into contact with, including family members.

Kadenhe is believed to have been infected by his niece who had just returned from India. She, too, has tested positive to COVID-19.

The thousands of people, among them villagers, who attended Mnangagwa’s Gokwe event yesterday ignored social distancing regulations while others had no face masks.

“I want to thank you for welcoming me in these huge numbers. When I go back, I will tell the party leadership at the politburo that you love your leadership and you are united,” Mnangagwa said braggingly.

“The COVID-19 pandemic is still here with us and poses a serious threat, we must continue to observe COVID-19 regulations of social distancing like you are right now and of staying at home, I know some of you were unhappy with these regulations, but they have to be observed,” he told the gathering.

Mnangagwa’s government has often been accused of selective application of the law after unleashing police to disrupt opposition MDC Alliance gatherings, citing safety concerns, while allowing ruling Zanu-PF meetings to go on uninterrupted.

Chiwenga, in a statement yesterday, said Kwekwe’s lockdown included a dusk-to-dawn curfew, reduced business hours, closure of bars, beerhalls and bottle stores.

He said his ministry would disinfect supermarkets, Amaveni dumpsite, Old Gokwe Road bus terminus, Junk Yard, among others. Quarantine of suspects, vigorous contact-tracing as well as screening of schools would be intensified, he said.

Calling Mwonzora Mwonzorewa After Muzorewa Is One Thing And Making Him MDC Fall Guy Is Foolish And Dangerous

By Patrick Guramatunhu- “MDC-T president Douglas Mwonzora (DM) has often been described as a sellout and likened to Rhodesia-Zimbabwe quisling Bishop Abel Muzorewa.

Mwonzora, nicknamed “Mwonzorewa” by critics who are determined to ensure that the Muzorewa analogy sticks for posterity, took over from Thokozani Khupe as party leader at last year’s congress,” reported The News Hawk.

The characterisation of Mwonzora as a Mnangagwa puppet no different from Muzorewa as an Ian Smith puppet is spot on.

As much as Zimbabweans are hungry for meaningful political change to restore the fundament freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful vote, the same things they were crying for before independence; the people know they will never get them from Mnangagwa just as they knew they would not get them from Smith.

Ian Smith tolerated Muzorewa as a stooge he could use to give himself legitimacy as representing the blacks. Ian Smith decided how many black MPs Muzorewa was to get and everyone knew the whites controlled everything and called all the shots in the Rhodesia-Zimbabwe.

Similarly Mnangagwa has the dictatorial powers to ensure Zanu PF wins 2/3 majority and the presidency in any elections and Mwonzora must be content with whatever scraps Zanu PF gives him. Mnangagwa tolerates MDC for the sole purpose of legitimacy.

But if the truth be told, MDC became a compromised and utterly useless opposition party during 2008 to 2013 GNU. The MDC’s primary task in the GNU was to implement the necessary democratic reforms to dismantle the Zanu PF dictatorship and replace it with a healthy and function democracy. Morgan Tsvangirai and company failed to deliver even one democratic reform.

The GNU was tasked to draft a new democratic constitution and produced instead a dictator’s creed. Paul Mangwana, the Zanu PF co-chairperson on the parliamentary committee that drafted the constitution could not resist boasting that it was Mugabe who had “dictated”

MDC leaders, en masse, came out in support of the new constitution. “This is the most democratic constitution ever!” said Professor Welshman Ncube, President of MDC-Ncube and Minister in the GNU. “And I am speaking as a constitutional lawyer in my other life!” He was a retired UZ law Professor.

“The new constitution is an MDC child!” insisted MDC – T President and Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai.

The people were convinced and approved the new constitution by a staggering 93% in the March 2013 referendum.

SADC leaders were not so easily fooled and wanted the July 2013 elections postponed until democratic were implemented. “If you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done!” they warned Tsvangirai and company.

MDC leaders paid no heed to the warning and, as the SADC leaders had rightly predicted, Zanu PF blatantly rigged the elections and thus proving beyond all doubt that the so called “MDC child” democratic constitution was if fact a dictator’s creed dictated by Robert Mugabe himself.

MDC leaders participating in the 2013 and then 2018 elections as nothing more than Zanu PF’s acolytes, there to give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy in return for a few gravy train seats and a share of the annual Political Party Finance Act payout. President Mnangagwa has since extended the reward to include all the presidential candidate who joined his POLAD.

It was USA ambassador to Zimbabwe 2004 to 2007, Chris Dell, who predicted that Morgan Tsvangirai was “flawed and indecisive character who will become an albatross round the nation’s neck if he got into power!” Tsvangirai and his MDC friends did get into power in the 2008 to 2013 GNU and by failing to implement even one reform and then participating in flawed elections to give the vote rigging Zanu PF they have become the milestone round the nation’s neck, dragging us all deed into the crashing abyss.

All MDC leaders involved in the 2008 to 2013 GNU have proven beyond all doubt that they are corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. To therefore single out Douglas Mwonzora and a few around him as the corrupt, incompetent and Mnagagwa puppets is wrong and dangerous because it gives the impression that Chamisa and the rest still in the MDC A factions are clean, innocent and the epitome of the competent leaders the nation has been dying for. Nothing could be further from the truth!

It should be remember here that Bishop Tendekayi Abel Muzorewa was once upon a time a darling of the nation. He fall out of favour when he signed his Rhodesia-Zimbabwe agreement with Ian Smith.

Robert Mugabe, Emmerson Mnangagwa and the rest of the Zanu PF leaders were themselves the nation’s liberation heroes and heroines and rightly revered until they imposed the de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship. Corruption and mismanagement destroyed the nation’s economy forcing millions into abject poverty and over 30 000 were murdered to establish and retain the dictatorship.

Mugabe and a few others around him were booted out of power in the military coup of 2017 by Mnangagwa and company. Mugabe and the G40 faction were blamed for all the evil of the 37 years of Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical rule although it was none other than Mnangagwa and many of the coup plotters who had carried out the blatant vote rigging, the wholesale looting, etc.

Making Mugabe the fall guy for all the evil of Zanu PF of the last 37 years and giving Mnangagwa and company a squawky clean bill of health was a grave mistake and one the nation so regretted.

Mnangagwa and his coup plotters promised to revive the economy with the clarion call “Zimbabwe is open for business!” Promised to stamp out corruptions, to hold free, fair and credible elections and a host of other things. The regime never kept any of the promises because Zimbabwe was still a pariah state, same as it was under Mugabe.

It is one thing nickname Mwonzora Mwonzorewa after Muzorewa but it would be folly to make him the fall guy of all MDC’s blunders and betrayals and give Chamisa et al a clean bill of health just as we did with Mnangagwa and the coup plotter in 2017. The GNU proved that Chamisa, Biti and the rest in MDC A are just as corrupt and incompetent as Mwonzora.

Both Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A and Douglas Mwonzora and his MDC-T are set to participate in the flawed and illegal 2023 election just as they did in the 2018 elections. Zanu PF will rig the elections to get 2/3 majority and the presidency and the two parties’ participation will give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy.

The grime reality of yet another five year term of Zanu PF corrupt and tyrannical rule is simply too gustily to contemplate. The election will settle the question of which of the two gentlemen, Chamisa and Mwonzora will have the bragging right to call himself leader of Zimbabwe’s main opposition but why has that to be at the expense of once again giving the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy!

Douglas Mwonzora is just as corrupt and incompetent as the other MDC leaders Nelson Chamisa, Tendai Biti, David Coltart, etc. They are all peas from the same MDC pod of the 2008 to 2013 GNU era. They will all dragged us into a flawed and illegal 2023 elections for the sake of a few gravy train seats and once again give vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy. After 41 years of rigged elections we must stop this madness by refusing to participate in these flawed elections.

We must demand the implementation of the democratic reforms to guarantee free, fair and credible elections before election. If Zanu PF and MDC cannot implement the reforms, the clearly failed to do so during the 2008 to 2013 GNU, then we must appoint others who can.

In the grand scheme of things, we will never forgive ourselves if Mwonzorewa did stick at the price of Zanu PF rigging the 2023 elections and getting  legitimacy because we participating. We really need to focus on what matters – stopping Zanu PF getting away with another rigged election by refusing to participate in flawed elections.

Air Force Of Zimbabwe Wing Commander Seeking Retirement Over Emotional Torture

By A Correspondent- Air Force of Zimbabwe wing commander, Matthew Mushininga is seeking retirement saying he’s been emotionally tortured since 2018.

The commander argues he was emotionally tortured since 2018 when he was wrongfully accused of unlawfully entering into a liquor bar for junior officers at Manyame airbase.

He also indicated that he has been cut off the payroll and thrown out of military housing adding that the Air Force turned down his application for discharge without giving any reasons.

Mushininga also accuses Defence Minister, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri of ignoring his letter and notice to sue that was tendered in December last year.

He said an inquiry was instituted on the alleged unlawful entry but he was never told of the outcome.

Mushininga alleged he was made to stay home for five months before being transferred to the Zimbabwe National Defense University where he was appointed director of business development but was quickly demoted and given the job in an acting capacity without “any explanation.”

Mushininga’s attorneys from M.E Motsi & Associates, say their client was not paid for the short-lived acting directorship assignment.

Then in 2019, the officer says he was involved in a road accident, prompting another inquiry whose findings remain unknown to him.

The Air Force allegedly repossessed his service vehicle and reassigned it to another officer despite that the army had deducted repair fees from his salary.

In January last year, Mushininga was transferred to Zimbabwe Staff College as teaching staff, only to be thrown back in the commander’s pool, again without explanation.

Mushininga was later kicked out of his Manyame Airbase housing and barred from stepping his foot in any Air Force premises.

In the application in which he also cited Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) boss Valerio Sibanda and Air Force Commander Elson Moyo as respondents, Mushinunga said:

_Accordingly, it is in the best interests of both applicant and respondents that he be retired from the Air Force of Zimbabwe with full benefits._

The matter is yet to be heard.

Police Trash Social Media Reports On Chitungwiza Murders

By A Correspondent- Police have urged members of the public to use social media platforms responsibly and not to use the same to cause alarm and despondency in the country.

This comes after some unscrupulous individuals have circulated “doctored” pictures of two Mutasa siblings who were brutally murdered last month, purporting that a child was killed in Chitungwiza.

In a statement this Friday, national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said circulating the images only serves to traumatise the Benza family whose two 7-year-old children were brutally murdered on 14 May while on their way from school. The statement read:

EX- Minister Slapped With A Warrant Of Arrest

By A Correspondent-A warrant of arrest was issued yesterday for former Cabinet Minister Prisca Mupfumira, at present in South Africa on official Parliamentary business, after she failed to attend court for her trial on corruption-related offences although the State agreed last week that her bail conditions could be modified so she had her diplomatic passport back.

The accused is being tried by Chief Magistrate Mr Munamato Mutevedzi and on that account, no trial is ongoing in this court.

It is critical to highlight the circumstances surrounding the non-availability of the accused.

The accused made an application for alteration of conditions.

The acting current deputy Prosecutor General Micheal Reza consented to the application in view of the Cabinet Authority letter.

Government Subsidises O & A Level Zimsec Exams

By A Correspondent- The government has put a 55 percent subsidy on O Level exams for those writing the examinations in public schools bringing the total cost down to $5 194 for seven O-Level subjects and $3 240 for three A-Level subjects.

The public schools include those run by local authorities and the non-profit mission schools.

There are no Zimsec examinations in June because delays caused by the Covid-19 prevention measures saw last November’s exams extend into early this year and there was a late start to the first term this year.

This year’s full cost for O-Level will be $1 648 a subject for candidates at private schools and colleges while those eligible for the subsidy will pay $742 a subject, with a maximum of seven subjects covered by the subsidy.

Anyone in the public system writing more subjects will pay the full cost for the extra subjects.

A-Level exam fees at private schools and colleges are $2 400 a subject and $1 080 a subject in the public system, up to a maximum of four subjects. There is an extra fee for those sitting communication skills: $994 at public schools and $2 208 at private schools.

The closing date for payment and submission of entries for the examinations is July 9 and late entries will close on July 30.

The Zimbabwe School Examinations Council announced the fees in a circular yesterday.

Mnangagwa Defied Covid-19 Regulations

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday defied COVID-19 safety protocols set by his government after he gathered thousands of people for a cultural event in Gokwe South, hours before his Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, who doubles as Health minister, placed the City of Kwekwe under a 14-day lockdown following the outbreak of the much-feared Indian variant of the disease in the Midlands city.

Nurse Quits Job, Becomes A Sangoma

By A Correspondent- Waking up chained to the small hospital bed, after eight days in a coma, Mrs Sobongile Sokani, better known as Mbuya Soko, in the spiritual realm, watched as the body of the person on the next bed was being wrapped up for the mortuary.
She remembered that in her dream, just before she woke up, her paternal grandfather and aunt, who are both late, had told her to go back the “right path or risk being handled in the same manner”.
Just as she was still adjusting to the sight, a supernatural force turned her head towards the wall where she saw a blue dish, some black and white pieces of cloth, a small sceptre and a snuff bottle that she recognised so well.
These were the same paraphernalia that she had thrown into the sea the day she later lost consciousness.
They were the reason she was in the hospital.
Her ancestors were angry that she had ignored her calling to become a traditional healer and pursued her work as a pastor.
For them to forgive her, she had to answer the call and serve her punishment.
And she has been paying for the past 10 years.
Mbuya Soko is now one of the famous traditional healers in Harare. She gave up her job as a gynaecologist in the Non-Governmental Organisation sector, relocated her family back to Harare and has dedicated her life to ‘serving the nation’ as she calls it.
Sitting in the corner of the small room she operates from in Mufakose, the diminutive Mbuya Soko laughs easily as she tells the story of how she became a traditional healer.
“My journey has been long but for me to be here, I finally answered the call to go and serve my nation,” she said
Born on June 1, 1978, Mbuya Soko was the complete opposite of her identical twin sister. Although they had similar features, she was a sickly child but extraordinarily intelligent.
“I was so intelligent that I would solve difficult mathematics problems that many adults could not and my teachers even facilitated for me to skip some grades.
“Growing up, I knew I was different but my family never suspected anything until I was in Grade 7. Five of us shared a room and we would share blankets. In the morning, I would wake up totally wet from head to toe while the person next to me was dry,” she said.
Her parents did not think it had anything to do with traditional beliefs because everyone in her family, except for her father, was a member of the Johane Masowe Apostolic Church.
So they took her to another apostolic church to get help.
They were told that she was possessed by the spirit of her dead aunt that needed to be exorcised.
“The VaPostori prayed for me and shook my head so hard that my neck would be painful at the end of that session. That was torture and at some point, I started pretending that the spirit was manifesting in me just so I could get some relief. But the queer happenings would just stop for a few months and start again,” said Mbuya Soko.
After some time, her father called some spirit mediums and held a bira at their house to try and appease the spirits that were troubling her.
She and her siblings innocently joined in dancing to the drums and one of the mediums identified her and told her family that a great spirit of the river possessed her.
“When they sprinkled some water on me, something happened. They told me that I started writhing on the ground and speaking in a different voice. The mediums asked for my spirit to calm down and allow me to grow up. For sure, everything went back to normal and I started going to school,” she added.
The mediums gave her the pouch, a black cloth, a white one and a small sceptre and told her to apply the snuff on her forehead if she started seeing or hearing things.
When she was in Form 3, the voices came back stronger and her mother took her to a traditional healer in their rural home Rusape, who took her to Zambe pool along Macheke river to ask the spirits again to give her more time to grow.
For sure, she finished her A’ Level and started her nursing programme with the Red Cross Society. She had even started preaching at her local church.
Young as she was, Mbuya Soko became a powerful pastor who captured the attention of many people.
But in 1997, the spirits were back once more.
“This time I started seeing things. I would be preaching one moment and a fierce angry man would appear in front of me telling me that this was not the path that I was supposed to be taking. Once that vision came, I would lose focus and struggle to finish my sermon. I fasted and prayed for that spirit to go but it did not,” said Mbuya Soko.
The following year, she got married and took all her stuff with her.
On her mother’s advice, she hid the things under their bed, where her husband would never think to look.
But the spirits had other ideas.
One night, they woke him up and told him about her secret. They even told him where to find her tools of trade.
“When I woke up from the trance, I saw the things on the bed and I was terrified that my marriage had been destroyed. My husband only asked why I had kept such a secret from him. He agreed to do the ceremony that they told him to do and since then we are fine,” she said.
At that time, Mbuya Soko was doing an HIV and AIDS counselling course and would lecture to student nurses. She started pulling crowds and worked with different organisations. But the spirits felt someone wanted to use her gift for wrong purposes so she had to leave Zimbabwe.
A colleague who stayed in Iran had once invited her so she went there. With no passport or knowledge of where she would stay, she boarded a plane and went to the land of the unknown.
After six months, she joined her husband who had relocated to another country. There she established her life.
She trained and became a gynaecologist. They had three children and she was still a powerful pastor.
Life was good.
Until the fierce old man came back in 2009.
She and her husband prayed about the visions but they did not stop until a colleague from Nigeria advised her that if she was not yet ready to allow the spirits to use her, she could put rice in her stuff and throw them into the sea.
In December 2009 she took her blue dish, the sceptre, cloths and pouch and drove with her youngest son to a beach 200km away from their home.
“While others were enjoying themselves at the beach, I was busy watching my stuff drift into the sea. We drove back and had our usual Friday night barbeque. My husband says at 3 am, I woke up and spoke in a foreign language. He could not discern what I was saying but he told me that the tone of my voice was angry and I spoke for a long time. After that, I just fell unconscious,” Mbuya Soko said.
They took her to the hospital after they failed to locate their family doctor.
Back home, her mother went back to the traditional healer they had consulted before, who gave her some water to use. The healer told her mother that the spirits would discipline Mbuya Soko in Harare.
After nine days in a coma, she woke up after seeing the vision of her grandfather and aunt. Her brother took her stuff and her home.
But at 2am the next morning, she left the house without telling anyone where she was going.
She doesn’t remember how she travelled or crossed the border without her passport but she woke up near an avocado tree that was outside their family house in Mufakose.
“At that time, my tongue was still inclined towards Afrikaans, Arabic and English and somehow I could not speak Shona. I could hear what they were saying but I would respond in other languages so everyone thought I had gone crazy,” she said.
All tests were done but they showed nothing until her mother took her to her rural home in Rusape.
They went back to the pool at Zambe where her mother did the rituals she had been told to do by the n’anga.
Suddenly, a whirlwind surrounded her and she fell into the pool. For five days, her mother stayed by the poolside and waited for her to be returned.
“She knew that someone who had been taken by the mermaids (vemumvura) would eventually come back if their family did not mourn them. The ancestors gave my mother fish to sustain her for those five days and she says they would sometimes bring me above the ground for her to see that I was still alive. On the sixth day, I remember seeing a light and a force pushing me up. I remember the lessons that I underwent underwater and the voices that kept chanting ‘serve the nation’. I came from the water completely dry with memory of the visions from underground,” she added.
On February 6, 2010, she went back to their rural homestead and started attending to people who had heard that she had come back from the underworld. Her Vapostori family now knew that she had become a spirit medium.
She started healing people and has not stopped since.
Mbuya Soko does not use things such as ‘Gona” in her work but just uses the snuff, bark from indigenous trees and a small cow-tail bunch which she uses to hook evil spirits from her clients.
She said that was the way she got to the root cause of problems which are usually brought about by curses.
She says she does not deal with small problems but wants those difficult spiritual wars like Ngozi and infertility.
Mbuya Soko said she uses her knowledge from modern medicine and combines it with the traditional knowledge she has to help women conceive.
“I will always be a gynaecologist. That is where my passion lies. I have many grandchildren out there who were conceived after I intervened. If you have a calling, it will always follow you. I am just continuing with the work that I was called to do even though I am now using different methods. My spirit guides me, it knows what to do. So am using my knowledge from both worlds to help women. What I do not do is to help them give birth only, they go to the hospital for that but if an emergency comes along, I can do that,” she said.
But her services are not free.
Mbuya Soko says she charges a reasonable amount for her to attack the curse that causes the problems that people bring to her.
“Although I do not charge exorbitant fees, I charge all my clients because for the curse that has been placed on you to work, a sacrifice is made. For me to remove it, you need to pay a token,” she clarified.
“But for the poor, I make an exception. I do not want someone leaving here without getting help because they don’t have money.”
She said the bond with my husband had grown stronger after he had accepted her calling. Even her in-laws have accepted her although some relatives still didn’t understand why he had stayed with a n’anga.
Mbuya Soko has even devised a way to work that leaves her time with her family.
On Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, she deals with clients who seek her services over the phone and those from outside the country. On other days, she operates from her shrine in Mufakose.
She now has five kids and still has time to help them with their homework.
“I cannot be a n’anga all the time. I am still young and need time with my family. I always make sure I finish work early so that I get home and do my duties. I cook for my husband and do his laundry. I am a mother and a wife so I give myself time with them even though we no longer have time for doing some things we used to before. I also want to remain healthy because this work is very draining,” she added.
She said although she was still under punishment from the ancestors, she had accepted her calling and was now enjoying it.
“In the past it used to bother me that I was now a traditional healer from being a doctor. But I am now happy. Once I have atoned to the spirits, I have hope that I will go back to my old job. But then again my heart bleeds for the people who still need my help. It is my hope that I can do both, even if traditional healing is part time,” said Mbuya Soko.

Indian Covid-19 Varient, Mnangagwa Locks-Down Own Home Town

By A Correspondent- The government has effected a two-week lockdown for Kwekwe, Redcliff and surrounding areas, to avoid the spreading of the Indian Covid-19 variant.

The measures include a 7 pm to 6 am curfew.

The government said it wanted to contain the spread of Covid-19 first detected in India when a resident of the Midlands city died last week after being infected by the new strain.

Genomic-sequencing test results have confirmed that the resident was infected with this strain. The exact number of his contacts has not been verified although they are all believed to be residents of Kwekwe.

The government decided to control the geographical spread of the variant virus by restricting movements in the Midlands city to avoid a spike of infections and give local health facilities a strong chance of bringing the variant under control by tracking down immediate contacts and with the other measures enhancing the chances that any chain of infection can be broken.

So far there has been no outbreak of the variant and by acting swiftly and early, the health authorities want to choke off any chain of infection before it can cause an outbreak.

The lockdown covers the entire district, which is the city of Kwekwe, the town of Redcliff and the surrounding farming areas in Kwekwe Rural District Council.

Zimbabwe has so far kept the infection rates, and thus the death rates, from Covid-19 low through early and effective responses. The new variant is more infectious, that is, it spreads more easily.

India has so far been the hardest hit with rapidly rising infection rates that have resulted in a greatly increased number of fatalities in recent weeks.

In a statement last night, Minister of Health and Child Care Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga said on top of the escalated response mechanism to contain the new variant announced early this week, the Government was augmenting it with a localised lockdown.

The further measures are: health education continued; a local lockdown of Kwekwe district for two weeks effective from yesterday with a curfew from 7 pm to 6 am; business hours have been cut to 8 am to 5 pm; visitors are banned at boarding schools and all-day schools must observe strict Covid-19 school protocols; all bars, drinking places, beerhalls and bottle stores are closed; all gatherings such as weddings, church services and all other public and private groupings are banned; all funerals must be supervised by health personnel and should not gather more than 30 people.

“Travellers through Kwekwe are strongly being advised to spend as little time as possible in Kwekwe during the next two weeks,” said VP Chiwenga.

Other measures to contain included case investigation and contact tracing, health education, disinfection of supermarkets, Amaveni dumpsite, pump station, Kadenhe home, Old Gokwe Road, Amaveni suburb, Junk Yard and National Test Seed pavements.
VP Chiwenga said quarantine of positive cases and close contacts, risk communication and community engagement, community awareness and campaigns were intensified. There was also screening of school children that were contacted.

Speaking at his offices earlier in the day yesterday while officially launching a nationwide campaign to introduce Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine into routine immunisation in Zimbabwe, VP Chiwenga said Government was not losing focus on the ongoing Covid-19 vaccination programme which was receiving timely boosts of new vaccine arrivals and increasing uptake.

“We continue to urge our people to get vaccinated against Covid-19 at their earliest opportunity, especially as we see and hear reports of a third wave of the deadly pandemic in other countries.

“Even as we report fewer and fewer cases, we advise our people to continue practising all recommended prevention behaviours as the Covid-19 pandemic is far from over,” said VP Chiwenga.

Mudede Arrested As Mnangagwa Hunts Down Mugabe Allies

By A Correspondent- The former Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede has been arrested for stealing farming implements in the 2000s in what seems to be President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s crusade to persecute the late Zimbabwean leader, Robert Mugabe’s close allies.

In the case, Mudede is said to have used a Support Unit team from Rhodesville Police Station in Harare in the late 2000s to evict a woman from a plot at Ballinettey Farm in Mazowe after stealing her irrigation equipment worth US$10 000.

Mudede is said to have roped in the police with assistance from Inspector Mwenje, who was then officer-in-charge at Rhodesville and used them to evict Jacquiline Mukanganyama from Plot 10, Ballinettey Farm in Mazowe West. At that time, Mudede allegedly bragged that he was untouchable since he was the Registrar General.

Yesterday at Harare Magistrates Court Mudede (70) appeared charged with theft. He was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him to June 23 on free bail.

Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti, appearing for the State, said Mudede was the holder of Plot 1 at Ballinettey Farm.

In 2002 Ms Mukanganyama was offered Plot 10 measuring 70 hectares and started farming there and was also given the responsibility of the taking care of the remaining State land and other properties.

In 2007, Mudede was offered subdivisions 1,2,3,4,13 and the remainder of Ballinettey, a total of 712.64ha after a heated boundary dispute between him, Ms Mukanganyama and other neighbours. Mudede, according to the State, had his offer letter registered by the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture in 2009.

Further allegations are that Mudede then forcefully went to occupy the farm house which was at the boundary of Ms Munkanganyama’s farm and the remaining State Land, which was under her caretakership.

The court heard that Mudede evicted Mukanganyama and stole irrigation equipment which included aluminium pipes, a 20-horse power Mono pump, submersible pump and plates worth US$10 000.

It is said that when Ms Mukanganyama attempted to recover her allegedly stolen items, Mudede assembled the team of Support Unit police from Rhodesville, who allegedly went to intimidate and assault Ms Mukanganyama.

Mudede was arrested on Wednesday and subsequently taken to court charged with theft.

Top Mines Ministry Officials Named In Corruption Scandal

He went closer to where the cries were coming from and saw the now deceased bleeding from the head and his clothes were soaked with blood,” said Insp Ncube.

“The informant tried to talk to the now-deceased but he was unable to talk and during that time the now deceased became unconscious and collapsed.”

Insp Ncube said people were walking on the footpath, but they could not help the now deceased and no one managed to identify him.

“The informant then made a report to the police who attended the scene and found nothing of interest. The body had two deep cuts on the head and six stabbed wounds all over the body,” he said.

Insp Ncube said the deceased did not have identity particulars.
He said On April 26, 2021, a full post-mortem was performed, and it was ascertained that the cause of death was a hypovolemic shock, laceration of femoral artery and a stab wound.

Chauya Chikwata Target Return To Premier Soccer League

ZIMBABWE Saints board of trustees’ chairman Vincent Pamire yesterday shouldered the blame for past decisions that pushed Chikwata to the peripheries of elite football.

Speaking at the re-launch of the club at the Zimbabwe Saints Sports Club in Queens Park East where passenger transport operator Mzansi Express donated tracksuits, playing kit and goal nets, Pamire said they are now determined to make their return a success.

“I was once the chairman of Zimbabwe Saints and I accept that something went wrong somewhere. I must have made a mistake because to my knowledge, having bought this sports club and leaving the team in the Premier Soccer League, due diligence wasn’t done when I handed the button on my way to Zifa. I take responsibility for those past mistakes,” said Pamire.

“As the board of trustees, we’ve done due diligence and won’t allow anybody to disturb the smooth running of the club. We’ve decided as trustees to oversee whatever is happening and play a role in appointment of the executive.”

Acting club chairman Felix Dzumbunu said their preparations for the First Division are on course with veteran coach Gibson Homela overseeing the player recruitment exercise.

He said the club will meet Zifa Southern Region registration deadline of May 30.

“Our mission and intention is to kick-start the revival of Zimbabwe Saints. It’s one of the oldest names in football and the missing link in Zimbabwean football at the moment,” Dzumbunu said.

“There’s a lot of work to be covered, but we’ve started putting together a team that will play in Division One and we’re happy the pieces are coming together.

We need lots of resources to make our dream come true. We’re happy with the support we’ve been promised,” he said.

Chikwata bounced back into the Zifa Southern Region Division One League last year after clearing debts in excess of US$5 000 owed to Zifa backdated to 2014.

Saints’ sojourn in the PSL was in 2011 and since then they have been on the brink of folding up until Pamire’s board of trustees’ rescue plan enabled them to buy a Division One franchise last year.

Once a football powerhouse that churned out a number of talented stars, the new Saints will have all junior structures that include the Under-12s, Under-14s, Under-16s and Under-18s as they seek to lay a solid base to fight for a PSL ticket.- Chronicle

Villager Murdered Over Dog…

Woman’s Body Retrieved From Mutare Pool Of Death

THE body of an unidentified woman was last week found in Chikanga’s pool of death.

Over the past five years, the pool has claimed the lives of at least eight people through suicide as well as murder-related cases.

Situated near Murahwa Mountain, the pool is also reported to be a dumping site for babies.

In the latest incident, an unidentified woman’s body was found in the pool with no visible injuries.

A 16-year-old juvenile, (name withheld) who was passing by saw the woman’s body floating close to the banks of the pool.

It is yet to be established if the woman committed suicide or was murdered.
“We are appealing to members of the public with a missing relative to contact their nearest police station and assist in identifying the woman. She had no signs of injuries and investigations are in progress to ascertain whether she was murdered or she committed suicide,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda.

In 2018, a 28-year-old Mutare woman died in the same pool while attempting to perform traditional rituals.

Bridget Mangazi, who was popularly known as Mai Kuku, had gone to the dam with four other women to perform rituals when she slipped and fell into the dam while relieving herself.

The other women told Mai Kuku’s relatives that they believed she had been taken by mermaids.

In another incident, a resident who used to sell electrical wares near Chikanga TM shops, popularly known as Stavo, threw himself to death in the same pool.
In January last year, a woman also threw herself into the same pool. Her body was found floating a few days later.

Interviewed residents said they are now leaving in fear as the dam claims one person each year.

“We hear about the death of a person in that pool each year. It is now worrying us and we are calling upon traditionalists and faith healers to do something about this pool because lives are continuously being lost at the dam,” said Mr Leeroy Mufute.

Mrs Mirriam Moyo said: “It is worrying that suicidal people are finding the pool a haven for ending their lives. We now believe there are mermaids in that dam as one of the victims slipped while performing rituals.

“Her colleagues were convinced that she was killed by a mermaid. They must have seen something. We have also heard that a huge fish stays in there.”
Mutare City Council spokesperson Mr Spren Mtiwi is on record saying council will ensure the pool is either used for income generating projects or sealed off.

“Despite erecting a perimeter fence around the pool, people are still finding their way through.

“When a brick-moulding company was operating there years back, they did not take the issue of land reclamation seriously, hence the creation of the pool. Had there been a proper land reclamation programme, the area would have been rehabilitated,” he said.- Manica Post

Police Dismiss Reports Of Chitungwiza Ritual Killings

Good Samaritan Kills Neighbour

Police in Chinamhora, Mashonaland East province, have arrested a Good Samaritan who turned villain after he fatally struck his neighbour with a knobkerrie in a bid to stop a family row.

The suspect, Johane Phiri (55) of Kadyausavi village who is accused of killing his neighbour Manyowa Chimukondo (41), is also facing attempted murder charges after he struck the deceased’s wife Mildred Muchinja (22) with the same weapon.

Muchinja is currently battling for life at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident which occurred on Sunday.

“It is disturbing to note that people continue to kill one another over petty issues. Life is precious hence the need for people to exercise restraint if they are caught in any dispute. Use of violence should not be an option,” he said.

According to police, on May 16, at around 7.30pm, Chimukondo was at his homestead together with his wife when they had an altercation with their nephew John Zhuwaki. Phiri allegedly rushed to Chimukondo’s homestead where he restrained the couple from assaulting Zhuwaki.

The couple then turned allegedly to the suspect and assaulted him with fists all over the body. In the ensuing melee, Phiri pulled a metal knobkerrie from his jacket and struck Chimukondo once on the jaws.

The suspect then charged towards Machinja and struck her all over the body using the same weapon. Machinja shouted for help while fleeing from the scene.

A neighbour, Danai Ngoroma (48) rushed to the scene and managed to calm the atmosphere.

Ngoroma escorted the suspect to his place of residence and on their way, Phiri realised that he had left his sandals at the scene. He returned to the crime scene searching for the suspect’s sandals and saw Chimukondo lying on the ground facing upwards, bleeding profusely.

The matter was reported at Chinamhora Police Station, leading to Phiri’s arrest. Machinja was referred to Makumbe District Hospital for treatment where she was transferred to Parirenyatwa for further attention. Newsday

Politics Of Rational Disputation- Zimbabwe’s Only Hope

By Lloyd Damba- 29 March is a very significant day to all peace and democracy lovingly Zimbabweans. This is the day that the late founding father of Democracy and MDC Leader Morgan Richard Tsvangirai defeated Robert Gabriel Mugabe without a single stone or bullet being fired.

29 March 2021 the Nelson Chamisa led party in their National Standing Committee Meeting resolved to abandon a none confrontational approach and take President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Zanu PF party in government head on, as they plan to roll out country wide mass protests dubbed “Winter of Prorests”.

Under the 2021 agenda the Nelson Chamisa led party plans to mobilize citizens countrywide to flood into the streets, storm State House and force Emmerson Mnangangwa out of State House.

If the plan works, ED will be sent to jail or worse and Chamisa crowned the new ruler of a free world. The country’s boarders will be flooded first with those members of Zanu PF outside of Government so that they can rightfully take their place on the top table with Zimbabwe’s new ruler, Nelson Chamisa of course and regain lost pride.

In a direct response to this imminent threat two weeks after the Winter of Prorest Resolution. The Zimbabwean government on the 13th of April, responded with a Cabinet resolution to reintroduce the National Youth Service Programme.

The program is designed to instill a sense of national identity and patriotism as well as equipping them with knowledge of disaster response and thereby assist in enhancing National Capacity to manage disasters.

The resolution is coated with the African Youth as well as SADC Charter framework as well as vision 2030. Older citizens will recall that the National Youth Service, was once called the Youth Brigade.

Sired from the chimbwidos and mujimbas during and soon after the liberation struggle. The late Border Gezi revived this brigade to ward off a stiff competition from Morgan Tsvangirai and the MDC in 2001.

The Brigade committed heinous crimes against humanity and were even used assault Morgan Tsvangirai in Prison. Those with a sharp memory will recall that these were the vanguard of Zanu PF and their duty was to set up road blocks and beat opposition supporters across the country during the run up to every election.

Helping turn the rural tide in Zanu PFs favour. They were easily identified with their green Chinese military fatigue which earned them the Nick name Green Bombers.

Now that winter is here and Chamisa and his team are going across the country, drumming up support for a long and bloody winter with his own battalion of Vangaurd which he used internally to settle leadership scores with those who did not subscribe to the Chamisa Chete Chete till 2090 Mantra.

Senator Mwonzora is lucky to be alive today as he survived death by being burned alive in Humanikwa at the funeral of the late party Leader Morgan Tsvangirai, by the Vanguard.

On the other hand across the country, vocational institutions are being dusted to quickly accommodate the Green Bombers to equip them with life skills to deal with this imminent disaster looming from the Chete Chete Vangaurd.

What this means is that the Government of Zimbabwe will unleash the Green Bombers to clash with Nelson Chamisa’s vanguard in violent street clashes. They will be casualties and already Chamisa’s Jecha(sand) Strategy backfired several times as he sent his best troops to the front line.

Most of them have pending court cases and one such major casualty is Makomborero Haruzuvishe. The young vanguard trooper was recently sentenced to 14 months in jail and he still has other pending cases against him.

As he was being sentenced, their leader Nelson Chamisa was refreshing himself in Bvukururu Masvingo. Six protests which were planed this day in solidarity with Makomborero Haruzivuse were a monumental flop.

Many of Chamisa’s counter parts have similar charges hovering over their heads and probably the same Makomborero fate. Makomborero Haruziveshe’s charge sheets reads; “The accused mobilized members of the public by a whistling code to cancavas them to revolt against the police officers and went on to throw stones towards the police officers and their vehicles”.

Winter protests will be moulded along the same lines of whistle blowing but with a lot of players. Now the question to ask now is; how many people must go to jail or die so that leaders can grab power. Zimbabwe has lost a lot of useful and productive citizens from the colonial days until August 6 2018.

The MDC Leader Douglas Mwonzora is cutting a lonely figure as he introduces a new kind of politics of Rational Disputation, devoid of violent street protest and threats of arresting the country’s leaders as well as opposition players.

A politics where the Youth are not used as political conduits to usurp State or party power but are the leaders of today. The first war to fight the colonial settlers by the spirit mediums and traditional chiefs was called the First Chimurenga War.

The second one that brought independence was called the second chimurenga war. Now those who want to participate and those agitators and protagonist who want to engange in the up coming war, Senator Mwonzora is asking what is the name of this nameless and mindless war. Senator Douglas Mwonzora is a very shrewd, smart, strategic and bloodless political operator and often misunderstood and underrated.

He is only saying to his fellow Zimbabweans”, come let us reason together and build a better future for all. Than to use our fellow comrades and send them to jail and their early graves, instead of industry and commerce and various leadership positions.

Taking cure from General Sun Tzu: There is no instance of a country having benefited from prolonged warfare. It seems now that many Zimbambweans; weary of violence and elections that yeald no change except to validate Zanu PF rule and justify the killing of innocence, are now heeding his call and now whispering Rational Disputation is Zimbabwea’s only Hope.

Marriage Proposal In Front Of Elephants

Proposal in front of elephants

Joseph Yobe Zimusi, an HR officer at the Gweru City Council recently charmed his lady, Nomqhele Tshuma, an IT graduate from MSU when he proposed to her in full view of elephants at the Antelope Park in Gweru.

As the couple was interacting with elephants, Zimusi went down on one knee and asked for Nomqhele’s hand in marriage. It was such a romantic scene that was well captured by the camera.

Below is the two lovebirds’ story leading to the proposal.

Patrick Chitumba (PC): How long have you been dating?

Joseph Zimusi (JZ): About four years now.

PC: How did you meet?

JZ: She is a former student at Gweru City Council, so I met her at work. We started dating in 2018 after I asked her friend, Nothando Mabhena to create a friendship between me and her. I pleaded with Nothando not to reveal my intentions of wanting to date Nomqhele, but instead, tell her I wanted to be her friend. She agreed to friendship and I took her to watch a soccer match at Mkoba Stadium. So basically, my first date with her was spent cheering those who were playing soccer and she enjoyed the outing.

My friends were also present and I introduced her to them as my girlfriend, something she could not deny because she did not want to humiliate me. From there, it took some weeks for me to gather the courage to propose love to her. Eventually, I did and she agreed to date me.

PC: What made you choose to propose at Antelope Park?

JZ: Nomqhele had never been there before and had been pestering me to take her there for some time as she wanted to view the game and experience nature. I then decided to make her dream come true and at the same time surprise her.

PC: How did she react to the surprise?

JZ: She could not believe it. She actually laughed as it was the least of things she expected from me.

I was also dressed in a simple way which helped as she did not suspect anything. I believe she has passed my test because I’m a difficult person to get along with. She has been so patient with me and apart from her physical appearance, her heart and soul ride with me always so I’m more than ready to wed her.

PC: Have you begun preparing for the wedding?

JZ: Yes, maybe we’ll wed in December at Antelope Park. On her part, Nomqhele said she was pleasantly surprised by the proposal.

“Honestly, I was surprised. I laughed when I saw Joseph on one knee because I was not expecting it. I thought we had gone to Antelope Park to see animals not knowing that a life-changing moment was awaiting me.

“That was one of the happiest days of my life as I really appreciated the creativity and thought that was put in executing the proposal. To top it all off, the elephants ‘clapped their hands for us’, I never knew they could do that,” Nomqhele said. – Chronicle

Zimbabwe Confined To UN List Of Shame As Mnangagwa Makes Embarrassing Diplomatic Gaffe

Tinashe Sambiri| Zimbabwe is among 15 countries that have voted No to a UN resolution to protect citizens from crimes against humanity.

Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa has effectively rejected a UN General Assembly resolution on the Responsibility to Prevent Genocide, War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity.

UN Watch has described the countries as a “list of shame”.

MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala has described the Zanu PF regime as bogus.

“Emmerson Mnangagwa’s regime is bogus. They together with North Korea, an outpost of tyranny voted against a progressive United Nations resolution on crimes against humanity.

This regime is terrorist in its disposition and rejects universal tenets of good governance and human rights.”

Hon Sikhala also castigated the regime for abusing citizens’ fundamental rights.

“Do police officers know that we don’t hate them. I have represented many police officers in Court. Others even in their own Police Trials.

I wonder why they hate us. They are always at war with us on unnecessary issues.

What is your problem with us officers?”

“Ziyambi Ziyambi, I have heard all the lobbying you have been doing for my recall since yesterday.

You can go to hell mudhara iwe. All those your regime recalled were not elected by you. We come from the people and to the people we belong. You thought I will let your nonsense go at the E-Rally…

The circus of what Mnangagwa’s regime is, is defined by having tortoise -minded people around him like Ziyambi Ziyambi.

Here is a moron who does not understand the role of the Courts. To him Courts are ZANU PF and must pronounce ZANU PF judgements,” added Hon Sikhala.

About Vector-borne Diseases …

The guidance builds on an earlier document published by TDR and FNIH in 2014, incorporating the latest scientific advancements related to genetic modification of mosquitoes, as well as other key updates and learnings related to safety and ethics, including:

methods for understanding the implications of genetically modified mosquitoes for human health, animal health and the environment;
increased understanding of the most effective strategies for risk assessment and stakeholder engagement;
clearer criteria for projects to proceed from one testing phase to the next, incorporating descriptions of the steps needed to safely and responsibly take genetically modified mosquito technologies – including those incorporating gene drive – into the field; and
a concrete set of safety and efficacy considerations that should be evaluated at each phase of testing, to inform decisions about further testing and implementation…

Woman Stabs Man For Urinating On Flowers

A BULAWAYO man from Entumbane suburb is battling for his life in hospital after a woman stabbed him in the stomach leaving his intestines hanging out for reportedly urinating on her flower bed.

Speaking to B-Metro, Thuthukani Moyo (32) said while he was in Entumbane suburb heading home he felt hard pressed and had to answer nature’s call on Julia Ndlovu’s flowers.

“I felt hard pressed and had to urinate on Julia’s flowers. Sadly she saw me and accused me of urinating on her flowers. I apologised,” he said.

Moyo said he then continued with his journey.

“Julia followed me and caught up with me. She shouted obscenities at me and in the midst of that she fumbled into the pocket of her jacket and took out an Okapi knife. She stabbed me on the left side of the chest, once on the right side of the shoulder and once on the stomach. I tumbled to the ground and fell unconscious,” he said.

A source close to investigations said soon after the act, the blood stained Julia took to her heels, leaving the unconscious Moyo lying on the ground.

After about one hour an unknown man stumbled on him and made a report at Entumbane Police Station.

Police from Entumbane Police Station dashed to the scene and swiftly summoned an ambulance which speedily came and ferried Moyo to Mpilo Central Hospital.

Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident.

“I can confirm that we arrested a lady for attempted murder after she stabbed a man three times for allegedly urinating on her flower bed,” she said.

Asst Insp Msebele urged community members to solve their differences amicably than to act out of emotion.

Julia was arrested and appeared before Western Commonage magistrate Shepherd Munjanja facing a charge of attempted murder.

She was remanded out of custody to 31 May 2021.- B-Metro

Strict COVID-19 PSL Restrictions, Journalists Raise Red Flag

By A Correspondent- Sports Journalists Association Southern Region (SpojaSR) has appealed to the Premier Soccer League to reconsider its insistence that all sports journalists covering Chibuku Super Cup matches should undergo mandatory Covid-19 tests within 48 hours before the games.

SpojaSR believes media houses might not have the financial muscle to foot the costs involved every week, as a Covid-19 test is between US$40 and US$60 per person.

Freelance journalists will also be prejudiced and SpojaSR believes vaccination certificates should be adequate.

“We have a challenge as testing regularly for journalists would be a tough and expensive task. It is, however, our plea as journalists that we use vaccination certificates than testing certificates. Testing certificates are valid for 48 hours and we suggest that we use other possible practical means to protect all stakeholders from the Covid-19 pandemic.

We have been covering various training sessions, having interviews and pressers with the same coaches and players. It is, however, our humble plea as sports journalists that we use vaccination cards rather than testing certificates to gain entry into the stadia,” wrote SpojaSR secretary-general Nash Mkokwayarira in a letter to the PSL.

Keeping physical distancing, sanitising and wearing of mask, wrote Mkokwayarira, would be adhered to.

“We are kindly asking your esteemed office to consider our plea where we will produce vaccination proof, get screened by thermometer at entry, put on masks and maintain physical distancing. Alternatively, PSL can also help by providing free rapid testing at the stadia for journalists since results can be accessed after 10 minutes,” he wrote.

Mugabe’s Former Election Rigging Master Arrested For Stealing Farming Implements

By A Correspondent- Former Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede allegedly took a Support Unit team from Rhodesville Police Station in Harare in the late 2000s to evict a woman from a plot at Ballinettey Farm in Mazowe after stealing her irrigation equipment worth US$10 000.

Mnangagwa Allies Using Agric Ministry To Loot Resources-Report

By A Correspondent- The latest investigation on the Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Ministry, has revealed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s allies are using the portfolio to loot the country’s resources.

The report’s initial findings suggest that the department has degenerated into a “haven of corruption activities”, fuelled by closely-knit syndicates with tentacles spreading beyond the country’s porous borders.

A document seen by the Zimbabwe Independent shows that the fresh investigation implicated top officials at the Agriculture ministry who were enriching themselves through corruption at the expense of key national projects.

“Reference is made to a memorandum from the deputy Director General-Operations of December 2020, wherein it was stated that information was received that the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement has become a haven of corruption activities,” a government investigation report reads.

The body was taken to Nyanga District Hospital for post mortem. “As police, we urge members of the public not to take the law into their own hands. They should learn to resolve their disputes amicably.
