By A Correspondent- The former Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede has been arrested for stealing farming implements in the 2000s in what seems to be President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s crusade to persecute the late Zimbabwean leader, Robert Mugabe’s close allies.
In the case, Mudede is said to have used a Support Unit team from Rhodesville Police Station in Harare in the late 2000s to evict a woman from a plot at Ballinettey Farm in Mazowe after stealing her irrigation equipment worth US$10 000.
Mudede is said to have roped in the police with assistance from Inspector Mwenje, who was then officer-in-charge at Rhodesville and used them to evict Jacquiline Mukanganyama from Plot 10, Ballinettey Farm in Mazowe West. At that time, Mudede allegedly bragged that he was untouchable since he was the Registrar General.
Yesterday at Harare Magistrates Court Mudede (70) appeared charged with theft. He was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him to June 23 on free bail.
Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti, appearing for the State, said Mudede was the holder of Plot 1 at Ballinettey Farm.
In 2002 Ms Mukanganyama was offered Plot 10 measuring 70 hectares and started farming there and was also given the responsibility of the taking care of the remaining State land and other properties.
In 2007, Mudede was offered subdivisions 1,2,3,4,13 and the remainder of Ballinettey, a total of 712.64ha after a heated boundary dispute between him, Ms Mukanganyama and other neighbours. Mudede, according to the State, had his offer letter registered by the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture in 2009.
Further allegations are that Mudede then forcefully went to occupy the farm house which was at the boundary of Ms Munkanganyama’s farm and the remaining State Land, which was under her caretakership.
The court heard that Mudede evicted Mukanganyama and stole irrigation equipment which included aluminium pipes, a 20-horse power Mono pump, submersible pump and plates worth US$10 000.
It is said that when Ms Mukanganyama attempted to recover her allegedly stolen items, Mudede assembled the team of Support Unit police from Rhodesville, who allegedly went to intimidate and assault Ms Mukanganyama.
Mudede was arrested on Wednesday and subsequently taken to court charged with theft.
By A Correspondent- Top government officials at the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, are reportedly scuttling foreign direct investment (FDI) into Zimbabwe’s economy by soliciting bribes from potential investors, a government investigation report seen by The Zimbabwe Independent has revealed.
According to the probe, Zimbabwe Geological Survey director Forbes Mugumbate and director of research, value-addition and beneficiation in the Mines ministry Tichaona Makuza are accused of allegedly asking for bribes from a South African mining firm Lephalale chairperson Cliff Motsepe and chief operating officer Mashile Mokono.
The duo at the Mines and Mining Development ministry is accused of asking for bribes during a meeting held with Motsepe and Mokono on March 29, 2021.
By A Correspondent- A dead body of an unidentified man was found dead in Bulawayo’s Pumula North suburb, with the police calling on members of the public with missing male relatives to come forward and assist in identifying the body.
The man’s body is at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) mortuary and was taken there on April 24 after an informant told police he had spotted a man lying in a pool of blood.
He was wearing a Black T-shirt, Navy Blue and Grey long-sleeved jacket labelled Marginal Franklin 25, Tattered Blue work suit trousers, Lime Green trousers, Blue short worn inside the trousers, White underwear, black pair of socks and Black all-star tennis shoes.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said the murder occurred at a footpath connecting Pumula North and Magwegwe West on April 24 around 8 PM.
“On April 24, 2021, at around 8 PM, the informant was walking on a footpath connecting Pumula North and Magwegwe West, when he heard the now deceased crying. He went closer to where the cries were coming from and saw the now deceased bleeding from the head and his clothes were soaked with blood,” said Insp Ncube.
“The informant tried to talk to the now-deceased but he was unable to talk and during that time the now deceased became unconscious and collapsed.”
Insp Ncube said people were walking on the footpath, but they could not help the now deceased and no one managed to identify him.
“The informant then made a report to the police who attended the scene and found nothing of interest. The body had two deep cuts on the head and six stabbed wounds all over the body,” he said.
Insp Ncube said the deceased did not have identity particulars. He said On April 26, 2021, a full post-mortem was performed, and it was ascertained that the cause of death was a hypovolemic shock, laceration of femoral artery and a stab wound.
“Police are appealing to members of the public with a missing male adult who went missing whilst wearing the above-described clothing to come forward in an endeavour to identify the body which is currently held at United Bulawayo Hospital’s mortuary,” said Insp Ncube.
He said anyone with information that could assist in the identification of the body and the arrest of the assailant(s) should contact the investigating officer Detective Sergeant Ncube on mobile number 0773067134, or officer in charge CID Homicide Bulawayo Detective Inspector Mashindi on 0779974490 or landline (02922) 71568 or any nearest police station.

ZIMBABWE Saints board of trustees’ chairman Vincent Pamire yesterday shouldered the blame for past decisions that pushed Chikwata to the peripheries of elite football.
Speaking at the re-launch of the club at the Zimbabwe Saints Sports Club in Queens Park East where passenger transport operator Mzansi Express donated tracksuits, playing kit and goal nets, Pamire said they are now determined to make their return a success.
“I was once the chairman of Zimbabwe Saints and I accept that something went wrong somewhere. I must have made a mistake because to my knowledge, having bought this sports club and leaving the team in the Premier Soccer League, due diligence wasn’t done when I handed the button on my way to Zifa. I take responsibility for those past mistakes,” said Pamire.
“As the board of trustees, we’ve done due diligence and won’t allow anybody to disturb the smooth running of the club. We’ve decided as trustees to oversee whatever is happening and play a role in appointment of the executive.”
Acting club chairman Felix Dzumbunu said their preparations for the First Division are on course with veteran coach Gibson Homela overseeing the player recruitment exercise.
He said the club will meet Zifa Southern Region registration deadline of May 30.
“Our mission and intention is to kick-start the revival of Zimbabwe Saints. It’s one of the oldest names in football and the missing link in Zimbabwean football at the moment,” Dzumbunu said.
“There’s a lot of work to be covered, but we’ve started putting together a team that will play in Division One and we’re happy the pieces are coming together.
We need lots of resources to make our dream come true. We’re happy with the support we’ve been promised,” he said.
Chikwata bounced back into the Zifa Southern Region Division One League last year after clearing debts in excess of US$5 000 owed to Zifa backdated to 2014.
Saints’ sojourn in the PSL was in 2011 and since then they have been on the brink of folding up until Pamire’s board of trustees’ rescue plan enabled them to buy a Division One franchise last year.

THREE Chipinge men allegedly teamed up to fatally assault a fellow villager for selling a stolen dog to one of them.
The incident took place in Chief Mutema’s area last week on Sunday and the trio — Clemence Chibvepi, Christopher Chibvepi and Martin Dube — are reported to have taken turns to assault Lucky Tsegure with sticks and logs all over his body.
Tsegure sustained serious head injuries and bled profusely, thereby resulting in his death.
The three suspects allegedly dumped the body along the banks of Budzi River.
Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the murder and said a manhunt for the trio has since been launched as they disappeared from the scene after committing the offence.
“Tsegure sold a dog to Clemence and they finalised the deal amicably. Days later, Clemence learnt that the dog had been stolen from a fellow villager, a Chimene.
“Clemence, his brother Christopher and a friend, Martin Dube went for a beer binge and met Tsegure and his friend Solomon Mudimba.
“A misunderstanding ensued between Clemence and Tsegure with the former accusing the latter of selling him a stolen dog. Onlookers unsuccessfully tried to restrain the enraged Clemence.
“Clemence, Christopher and Dube teamed up and dragged Tsegure from the homestead to Budzi River about 3km away. They took turns to assault him with sticks and logs. They dragged the badly injured Tsegure to the river bank and dumped him there,” said Inspector Chananda.
On May 13, Bothwell Sithole (24) discovered Tsegure’s body.
Inspector Chananda appealed to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the trio to contact their nearest police station.
Meanwhile, an axe-wielding 35-year-old Rusape man, Milton Chihobo, is on the run after he gruesomely murdered his wife, Martha Chinawa (43), over a love text message he had seen in the latter’s phone.
Inspector Chananda confirmed the murder which happened in Chief Chiduku’s area.
“An infuriated Chihobo who was armed with an axe confronted Chinawa about the issue but she failed to give a satisfactory answer. He chopped her on the left cheek and the back of her head with an axe. She sustained serious injuries and died on the spot. Chihobo vanished from the scene soon after committing the heinous act. He is still at large,” said Inspector Chananda.- Manica Post
THE body of an unidentified woman was last week found in Chikanga’s pool of death.
Over the past five years, the pool has claimed the lives of at least eight people through suicide as well as murder-related cases.
Situated near Murahwa Mountain, the pool is also reported to be a dumping site for babies.
In the latest incident, an unidentified woman’s body was found in the pool with no visible injuries.
A 16-year-old juvenile, (name withheld) who was passing by saw the woman’s body floating close to the banks of the pool.
It is yet to be established if the woman committed suicide or was murdered. “We are appealing to members of the public with a missing relative to contact their nearest police station and assist in identifying the woman. She had no signs of injuries and investigations are in progress to ascertain whether she was murdered or she committed suicide,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda.
In 2018, a 28-year-old Mutare woman died in the same pool while attempting to perform traditional rituals.
Bridget Mangazi, who was popularly known as Mai Kuku, had gone to the dam with four other women to perform rituals when she slipped and fell into the dam while relieving herself.
The other women told Mai Kuku’s relatives that they believed she had been taken by mermaids.
In another incident, a resident who used to sell electrical wares near Chikanga TM shops, popularly known as Stavo, threw himself to death in the same pool. In January last year, a woman also threw herself into the same pool. Her body was found floating a few days later.
Interviewed residents said they are now leaving in fear as the dam claims one person each year.
“We hear about the death of a person in that pool each year. It is now worrying us and we are calling upon traditionalists and faith healers to do something about this pool because lives are continuously being lost at the dam,” said Mr Leeroy Mufute.
Mrs Mirriam Moyo said: “It is worrying that suicidal people are finding the pool a haven for ending their lives. We now believe there are mermaids in that dam as one of the victims slipped while performing rituals.
“Her colleagues were convinced that she was killed by a mermaid. They must have seen something. We have also heard that a huge fish stays in there.” Mutare City Council spokesperson Mr Spren Mtiwi is on record saying council will ensure the pool is either used for income generating projects or sealed off.
“Despite erecting a perimeter fence around the pool, people are still finding their way through.
“When a brick-moulding company was operating there years back, they did not take the issue of land reclamation seriously, hence the creation of the pool. Had there been a proper land reclamation programme, the area would have been rehabilitated,” he said.- Manica Post
CIRCULATING OF IMAGES ON SOCIAL MEDIA ON ALLEGED CHILD KILLINGS IN CHITUNGWIZA
The Zimbabwe Republic Police wishes to advise members of the public that the images circulating on social media platforms purporting that a child was killed in Chitungwiza are false and doctored.
Investigations have revealed that the images are of the double murder incident which occurred in Nyanga on 14th April 2021 at Sambaza Village, Chief Mutasa where two minors, Deloney Benza (07) and Melissa Benza (07), were murdered whilst they were coming from school. The case is now before the courts with the suspects on remand.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is equally disturbed by the motive of the individual or groups who are circulating these images or linking them to alleged killings in Chitungwiza.
Surely the Police do not think that it is fair for any individual or groups to continue to circulate images that traumatise the Benza family and in the process cause alarm and despondency in the country.
It is not good for anyone to be obsessed with social media to an extent of copying images and then try to send false messages locally and internationally.
The Police urge the public to use social media responsibly.

Police in Chinamhora, Mashonaland East province, have arrested a Good Samaritan who turned villain after he fatally struck his neighbour with a knobkerrie in a bid to stop a family row.
The suspect, Johane Phiri (55) of Kadyausavi village who is accused of killing his neighbour Manyowa Chimukondo (41), is also facing attempted murder charges after he struck the deceased’s wife Mildred Muchinja (22) with the same weapon.
Muchinja is currently battling for life at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals. Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident which occurred on Sunday.
“It is disturbing to note that people continue to kill one another over petty issues. Life is precious hence the need for people to exercise restraint if they are caught in any dispute. Use of violence should not be an option,” he said.
According to police, on May 16, at around 7.30pm, Chimukondo was at his homestead together with his wife when they had an altercation with their nephew John Zhuwaki. Phiri allegedly rushed to Chimukondo’s homestead where he restrained the couple from assaulting Zhuwaki.
The couple then turned allegedly to the suspect and assaulted him with fists all over the body. In the ensuing melee, Phiri pulled a metal knobkerrie from his jacket and struck Chimukondo once on the jaws.
The suspect then charged towards Machinja and struck her all over the body using the same weapon. Machinja shouted for help while fleeing from the scene.
A neighbour, Danai Ngoroma (48) rushed to the scene and managed to calm the atmosphere.
Ngoroma escorted the suspect to his place of residence and on their way, Phiri realised that he had left his sandals at the scene. He returned to the crime scene searching for the suspect’s sandals and saw Chimukondo lying on the ground facing upwards, bleeding profusely.
The matter was reported at Chinamhora Police Station, leading to Phiri’s arrest. Machinja was referred to Makumbe District Hospital for treatment where she was transferred to Parirenyatwa for further attention. Newsday
By Lloyd Damba- 29 March is a very significant day to all peace and democracy lovingly Zimbabweans. This is the day that the late founding father of Democracy and MDC Leader Morgan Richard Tsvangirai defeated Robert Gabriel Mugabe without a single stone or bullet being fired.
29 March 2021 the Nelson Chamisa led party in their National Standing Committee Meeting resolved to abandon a none confrontational approach and take President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the Zanu PF party in government head on, as they plan to roll out country wide mass protests dubbed “Winter of Prorests”.
Under the 2021 agenda the Nelson Chamisa led party plans to mobilize citizens countrywide to flood into the streets, storm State House and force Emmerson Mnangangwa out of State House.
If the plan works, ED will be sent to jail or worse and Chamisa crowned the new ruler of a free world. The country’s boarders will be flooded first with those members of Zanu PF outside of Government so that they can rightfully take their place on the top table with Zimbabwe’s new ruler, Nelson Chamisa of course and regain lost pride.
In a direct response to this imminent threat two weeks after the Winter of Prorest Resolution. The Zimbabwean government on the 13th of April, responded with a Cabinet resolution to reintroduce the National Youth Service Programme.
The program is designed to instill a sense of national identity and patriotism as well as equipping them with knowledge of disaster response and thereby assist in enhancing National Capacity to manage disasters.
The resolution is coated with the African Youth as well as SADC Charter framework as well as vision 2030. Older citizens will recall that the National Youth Service, was once called the Youth Brigade.
Sired from the chimbwidos and mujimbas during and soon after the liberation struggle. The late Border Gezi revived this brigade to ward off a stiff competition from Morgan Tsvangirai and the MDC in 2001.
The Brigade committed heinous crimes against humanity and were even used assault Morgan Tsvangirai in Prison. Senator Mwonzora is lucky to be alive today as he survived death by being burned alive in Humanikwa at the funeral of the late party Leader Morgan Tsvangirai, by the Vanguard.
On the other hand across the country, vocational institutions are being dusted to quickly accommodate the Green Bombers to equip them with life skills to deal with this imminent disaster looming from the Chete Chete Vangaurd.
What this means is that the Government of Zimbabwe will unleash the Green Bombers to clash with Nelson Chamisa’s vanguard in violent street clashes. They will be casualties and already Chamisa’s Jecha(sand) Strategy backfired several times as he sent his best troops to the front line.
Most of them have pending court cases and one such major casualty is Makomborero Haruzuvishe. The young vanguard trooper was recently sentenced to 14 months in jail and he still has other pending cases against him.
As he was being sentenced, their leader Nelson Chamisa was refreshing himself in Bvukururu Masvingo. Six protests which were planed this day in solidarity with Makomborero Haruzivuse were a monumental flop.
Many of Chamisa’s counter parts have similar charges hovering over their heads and probably the same Makomborero fate. Makomborero Haruziveshe’s charge sheets reads; “The accused mobilized members of the public by a whistling code to cancavas them to revolt against the police officers and went on to throw stones towards the police officers and their vehicles”.
Winter protests will be moulded along the same lines of whistle blowing but with a lot of players. Now the question to ask now is; how many people must go to jail or die so that leaders can grab power. Zimbabwe has lost a lot of useful and productive citizens from the colonial days until August 6 2018.
The MDC Leader Douglas Mwonzora is cutting a lonely figure as he introduces a new kind of politics of Rational Disputation, devoid of violent street protest and threats of arresting the country’s leaders as well as opposition players.
A politics where the Youth are not used as political conduits to usurp State or party power but are the leaders of today. The first war to fight the colonial settlers by the spirit mediums and traditional chiefs was called the First Chimurenga War.
The second one that brought independence was called the second chimurenga war. Now those who want to participate and those agitators and protagonist who want to engange in the up coming war, Senator Mwonzora is asking what is the name of this nameless and mindless war. Senator Douglas Mwonzora is a very shrewd, smart, strategic and bloodless political operator and often misunderstood and underrated.

Joseph Yobe Zimusi, an HR officer at the Gweru City Council recently charmed his lady, Nomqhele Tshuma, an IT graduate from MSU when he proposed to her in full view of elephants at the Antelope Park in Gweru.
As the couple was interacting with elephants, Zimusi went down on one knee and asked for Nomqhele’s hand in marriage. It was such a romantic scene that was well captured by the camera.

Patrick Chitumba (PC): How long have you been dating?
Joseph Zimusi (JZ): About four years now.
PC: How did you meet?
JZ: She is a former student at Gweru City Council, so I met her at work. We started dating in 2018 after I asked her friend, Nothando Mabhena to create a friendship between me and her. I pleaded with Nothando not to reveal my intentions of wanting to date Nomqhele, but instead, tell her I wanted to be her friend. She agreed to friendship and I took her to watch a soccer match at Mkoba Stadium. So basically, my first date with her was spent cheering those who were playing soccer and she enjoyed the outing.
My friends were also present and I introduced her to them as my girlfriend, something she could not deny because she did not want to humiliate me. From there, it took some weeks for me to gather the courage to propose love to her. Eventually, I did and she agreed to date me.
PC: What made you choose to propose at Antelope Park?
JZ: Nomqhele had never been there before and had been pestering me to take her there for some time as she wanted to view the game and experience nature. I then decided to make her dream come true and at the same time surprise her.
PC: How did she react to the surprise?
JZ: She could not believe it. She actually laughed as it was the least of things she expected from me.
I was also dressed in a simple way which helped as she did not suspect anything. I believe she has passed my test because I’m a difficult person to get along with. She has been so patient with me and apart from her physical appearance, her heart and soul ride with me always so I’m more than ready to wed her.
PC: Have you begun preparing for the wedding?
JZ: Yes, maybe we’ll wed in December at Antelope Park. On her part, Nomqhele said she was pleasantly surprised by the proposal.
“Honestly, I was surprised. I laughed when I saw Joseph on one knee because I was not expecting it. I thought we had gone to Antelope Park to see animals not knowing that a life-changing moment was awaiting me.
“That was one of the happiest days of my life as I really appreciated the creativity and thought that was put in executing the proposal. To top it all off, the elephants ‘clapped their hands for us’, I never knew they could do that,” Nomqhele said. – Chronicle

The function is being held in Murehwa where the lad disappeared before his dismembered body parts found in September 2020.
A family source told the ZimEye.com, “it will be held next week Saturday.”
Tapiwa was found dead on the 17th Sept, and the murder case has remained hanging between court and police post, and suspects who confessed to doing the killing, been left Scot free.

New guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) sets essential standards to inform future research and development on genetically modified mosquitoes, particularly in addressing issues relating to ethics, safety, affordability and effectiveness.
Malaria and other vector-borne diseases, including dengue and Zika, affect millions globally. More than 400 000 people a year die from malaria alone. If proven safe, effective and affordable, genetically modified vector mosquitoes could be a valuable new tool to fight these diseases and eliminate their enormous health, social and economic burden.
The guidance framework for testing genetically modified mosquitoes, developed in partnership with TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, and the GeneConvene Global Collaborative, an initiative of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, describes best practices to ensure that the study and evaluation of genetically modified mosquitoes as public health tools is safe, ethical and rigorous.
Current strategies for limiting transmission of mosquito-borne diseases are only partially effective. New, complementary approaches are needed to close the gaps in current vector control interventions, such as effective control of outdoor biting, and to provide alternatives to manage the increasing threat of insecticide resistance. Research suggests genetically modified mosquitoes could be a powerful and cost-effective tool to supplement existing interventions.
“We urgently need innovative approaches to help control mosquito-borne diseases, which have a devastating impact around the world,” said Dr John Reeder, TDR Director. “Genetically modified mosquitoes is one such approach, but we want to be sure it’s fully and responsibly evaluated, as outlined in a recent WHO position statement.”
“Like any new public health intervention, genetically modified mosquitoes raise new questions for researchers, affected communities and other stakeholders,” said Dr Michael Santos, Director of the GeneConvene Global Collaborative.
“The updated guidance framework aims to answer these questions and help ensure that testing of genetically modified mosquitoes is as rigorous as it is for other public health products – and that it generates quality results to guide decisions about if and how these technologies are used.”
“Over the last 2 decades, we have achieved remarkable results with existing malaria control tools, averting more than 7 million deaths and 1.5 billion cases of the disease,” said Dr Pedro Alonso, Director of the WHO Global Malaria Programme.
“However, progress towards key targets of our global malaria strategy remains off course. Genetically modified mosquitoes are one of a number of promising new tools that could help speed the pace of progress against malaria and other vector-borne diseases.”
“The incidence of dengue continues to increase and affect people in over 129 countries, so we need more sustainable vector control tools to stem the tide of dengue and other arboviral diseases and a few novel tools offer the potential to control these diseases,” said Dr Mwele Malecela, Director of the WHO Department for the Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases.
“We welcome this new guidance from WHO which will help countries suffering from mosquito-borne diseases to evaluate a promising new intervention,” said Professor Aggrey Ambali, Senior Advisor at the African Union Development Agency-New Partnership for Africa’s Development (AUDA-NEPAD), the development agency of the African Union.
The new guidance addresses specific questions and challenges associated with research and development on genetically modified mosquitoes, including standards for decision-making about how and when testing should proceed.
By establishing a common set of expectations that is specific to genetically modified mosquitoes, the new resource will enable more informed and rigorous evaluation by researchers, developers, those responsible for regulatory and policy decisions and the people to whom these stakeholders are accountable.
The guidance builds on an earlier document published by TDR and FNIH in 2014, incorporating the latest scientific advancements related to genetic modification of mosquitoes, as well as other key updates and learnings related to safety and ethics, including:
methods for understanding the implications of genetically modified mosquitoes for human health, animal health and the environment; increased understanding of the most effective strategies for risk assessment and stakeholder engagement; clearer criteria for projects to proceed from one testing phase to the next, incorporating descriptions of the steps needed to safely and responsibly take genetically modified mosquito technologies – including those incorporating gene drive – into the field; and a concrete set of safety and efficacy considerations that should be evaluated at each phase of testing, to inform decisions about further testing and implementation…

A BULAWAYO man from Entumbane suburb is battling for his life in hospital after a woman stabbed him in the stomach leaving his intestines hanging out for reportedly urinating on her flower bed.
Speaking to B-Metro, Thuthukani Moyo (32) said while he was in Entumbane suburb heading home he felt hard pressed and had to answer nature’s call on Julia Ndlovu’s flowers.
“I felt hard pressed and had to urinate on Julia’s flowers. Sadly she saw me and accused me of urinating on her flowers. I apologised,” he said.
Moyo said he then continued with his journey.
“Julia followed me and caught up with me. She shouted obscenities at me and in the midst of that she fumbled into the pocket of her jacket and took out an Okapi knife. She stabbed me on the left side of the chest, once on the right side of the shoulder and once on the stomach. I tumbled to the ground and fell unconscious,” he said.
A source close to investigations said soon after the act, the blood stained Julia took to her heels, leaving the unconscious Moyo lying on the ground.
After about one hour an unknown man stumbled on him and made a report at Entumbane Police Station.
Police from Entumbane Police Station dashed to the scene and swiftly summoned an ambulance which speedily came and ferried Moyo to Mpilo Central Hospital.
By A Correspondent- Sports Journalists Association Southern Region (SpojaSR) has appealed to the Premier Soccer League to reconsider its insistence that all sports journalists covering Chibuku Super Cup matches should undergo mandatory Covid-19 tests within 48 hours before the games.
SpojaSR believes media houses might not have the financial muscle to foot the costs involved every week, as a Covid-19 test is between US$40 and US$60 per person.
Freelance journalists will also be prejudiced and SpojaSR believes vaccination certificates should be adequate.
“We have a challenge as testing regularly for journalists would be a tough and expensive task. It is, however, our plea as journalists that we use vaccination certificates than testing certificates. Testing certificates are valid for 48 hours and we suggest that we use other possible practical means to protect all stakeholders from the Covid-19 pandemic.
We have been covering various training sessions, having interviews and pressers with the same coaches and players. It is, however, our humble plea as sports journalists that we use vaccination cards rather than testing certificates to gain entry into the stadia,” wrote SpojaSR secretary-general Nash Mkokwayarira in a letter to the PSL.
Keeping physical distancing, sanitising and wearing of mask, wrote Mkokwayarira, would be adhered to.
“We are kindly asking your esteemed office to consider our plea where we will produce vaccination proof, get screened by thermometer at entry, put on masks and maintain physical distancing. Alternatively, PSL can also help by providing free rapid testing at the stadia for journalists since results can be accessed after 10 minutes,” he wrote.
By A Correspondent- A body of an unidentified man who died in a suspected murder case was found in Bulawayo’s Pumula North suburb.
The man’s body is at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) mortuary and was taken there on April 24 after an informant told police he had spotted a man lying in a pool of blood.
He was wearing a Black T-shirt, Navy Blue and Grey long-sleeved jacket labelled Marginal Franklin 25, Tattered Blue work suit trousers, Lime Green trousers, Blue short worn inside the trousers, White underwear, black pair of socks and Black all-star tennis shoes.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said the murder occurred at a footpath connecting Pumula North and Magwegwe West on April 24 around 8 PM.
“On April 24, 2021, at around 8 PM, the informant was walking on a footpath connecting Pumula North and Magwegwe West, when he heard the now deceased crying. He went closer to where the cries were coming from and saw the now deceased bleeding from the head and his clothes were soaked with blood,” said Insp Ncube.
“The informant tried to talk to the now-deceased but he was unable to talk and during that time the now deceased became unconscious and collapsed.”
Insp Ncube said people were walking on the footpath, but they could not help the now deceased and no one managed to identify him. “The informant then made a report to the police who attended the scene and found nothing of interest. The body had two deep cuts on the head and six stabbed wounds all over the body,” he said.
Insp Ncube said the deceased did not have identity particulars. He said On April 26, 2021, a full post-mortem was performed, and it was ascertained that the cause of death was a hypovolemic shock, laceration of femoral artery and a stab wound.
“Police are appealing to members of the public with a missing male adult who went missing whilst wearing the above-described clothing to come forward in an endeavour to identify the body which is currently held at United Bulawayo Hospital’s mortuary,” said Insp Ncube.

By A Correspondent- Top government officials at the Ministry of Mines and Mining Development, are reportedly scuttling foreign direct investment (FDI) into Zimbabwe’s economy by soliciting bribes from potential investors, a government investigation report seen by The Zimbabwe Independent has revealed.
According to the probe, Zimbabwe Geological Survey director Forbes Mugumbate and director of research, value-addition and beneficiation in the Mines ministry Tichaona Makuza are accused of allegedly asking for bribes from a South African mining firm Lephalale chairperson Cliff Motsepe and chief operating officer Mashile Mokono.
The duo at the Mines and Mining Development ministry is accused of asking for bribes during a meeting held with Motsepe and Mokono on March 29, 2021.

By A Correspondent- Former Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede allegedly took a Support Unit team from Rhodesville Police Station in Harare in the late 2000s to evict a woman from a plot at Ballinettey Farm in Mazowe after stealing her irrigation equipment worth US$10 000.
Mudede is said to have roped in the police with assistance from Inspector Mwenje, who was then officer-in-charge at Rhodesville and used them to evict Jacquiline Mukanganyama from Plot 10, Ballinettey Farm in Mazowe West. At that time, Mudede allegedly bragged that he was untouchable since he was the Registrar General.
Yesterday at Harare Magistrates Court Mudede (70) appeared charged with theft. He was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him to June 23 on free bail.
Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti, appearing for the State, said Mudede was the holder of Plot 1 at Ballinettey Farm.
In 2002 Ms Mukanganyama was offered Plot 10 measuring 70 hectares and started farming there and was also given the responsibility of the taking care of the remaining State land and other properties.
In 2007, Mudede was offered subdivisions 1,2,3,4,13 and the remainder of Ballinettey, a total of 712.64ha after a heated boundary dispute between him, Ms Mukanganyama and other neighbours. Mudede, according to the State, had his offer letter registered by the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture in 2009.
Further allegations are that Mudede then forcefully went to occupy the farm house which was at the boundary of Ms Munkanganyama’s farm and the remaining State Land, which was under her caretakership.
The court heard that Mudede evicted Mukanganyama and stole irrigation equipment which included aluminium pipes, a 20-horse power Mono pump, submersible pump and plates worth US$10 000.
It is said that when Ms Mukanganyama attempted to recover her allegedly stolen items, Mudede assembled the team of Support Unit police from Rhodesville, who allegedly went to intimidate and assault Ms Mukanganyama.
Mudede was arrested on Wednesday and subsequently taken to court charged with theft.
By A Correspondent- The latest investigation on the Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Ministry, has revealed that President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s allies are using the portfolio to loot the country’s resources.
The report’s initial findings suggest that the department has degenerated into a “haven of corruption activities”, fuelled by closely-knit syndicates with tentacles spreading beyond the country’s porous borders.
A document seen by the Zimbabwe Independent shows that the fresh investigation implicated top officials at the Agriculture ministry who were enriching themselves through corruption at the expense of key national projects.
“Reference is made to a memorandum from the deputy Director General-Operations of December 2020, wherein it was stated that information was received that the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement has become a haven of corruption activities,” a government investigation report reads.
By A Correspondent- A Nyanga man has been arrested for killing his brother over 0.02 grammes of gold which they had panned in Nyamutombwe area near Mozambique.
Police confirmed the incident and said they are treating the case as murder. Manicaland deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the suspect Samuel Sokiri (27) was drinking beer with Simudzai Sokiri (31), Freddy Mukonowamwere and Alois Nyamatanga at Chimusasa business centre.
After drinking they decided to go back home to rest. On their way, the accused person, Samuel and the now-deceased; Simudzai Sokiri had a misunderstanding over 0.02 grammes of gold which they had panned in Nyamutombwe area near Mozambique.
“A dispute ensued and degenerated in a fist fight. Mukonowamwere tried restrain the two but failed.
The accused person started assaulting Simudzai with his fists in the head and fell unconscious,” said Asst. Insp. Chinyoka.
After committing the offence, Samuel left the scene together with Nyamatanga and Mukonowamwere. Chinyoka said they left the deceased lying unconscious on the ground.
Simudzai was later discovered by a Good Samaritan Chimusasa Kembo (67) who was coming from Chimusasa Business Centre.
“The now deceased was spotted by Kembo while lying unconscious with some injuries in the head and face. He rushed home and informed Samuel and his wife, Nyarai Nyamuwe who went with him to the scene and carried Simudzai to his home,” said the deputy police spokesperson.
Simudzai is reported to have succumbed to the injuries the following day at around 2300hrs. The matter was reported to Ruwangwe police station by Chimusasa Kembo who attended the scene.
The body was taken to Nyanga District Hospital for post mortem. “As police, we urge members of the public not to take the law into their own hands. They should learn to resolve their disputes amicably.
“They can approach elders, tradition or religious leaders in their respective communities for arbitration whenever they are entangled in a dispute,” said Asst. Insp Chinyoka.
By A Correspondent- Two senior officers in President’s Emmerson Mnangagwa’s office have been remanded in custody for extortion after they were allegedly caught red-handed receiving a bribe from Chinese investors.
Patrick Badza (46), a senior programmes manager in the President’s Office and his subordinate Simabarashe Chester Matsvimbo (39) were arrested after the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) set up a trap.
They were not asked to plead when they appeared before magistrate Estere Chivasa yesterday.
It is alleged that the duo demanded bribe from Kyle Dongchuan Wang (29) the managing director of Live Touch mining company in KweKwe so that they could facilitate the processing of temporary employment permits applications for 33 Chinese nationals following the expansion of the company into limestone mining.
It is alleged that between March and April 2021, Wang submitted the application for the permits to the Immigration Department and the applications were forwarded to the committee on foreign recruitment for processing.
The committee made a site visit at the mine where the operations officer Junior Zigora showed them around.
On May 14, Zigora received a call from Badza who told him that he was from the President’s Office and solicited for a reward or consideration in order to make favourable recommendations for the permits of the Chinese nationals to be processed.
Zigora referred Badza to Wang and he again made the same demand. Wang reported the matter to Zacc on May 17, 2021 and the commission decided to set up a trap for the two, leading to the duo’s arrest the following day after receiving a US$3 500 bribe.

The School Development Committee (SDC) at Guni Primary School under Chief Makore in Gutu last week locked the school head Violet Mawere and her deputy Lovegod Munago out of their offices, accusing the duo of corruption.
The offices were locked last week on Tuesday at the end of an SDC meeting, with parents accusing the two of abusing school funds.
The Acting Provincial Education Director, Shylatte Mhike said she did not have a report on the matter when Masvingo Mirror called her.
Munago allegedly withdrew $15 000 from the school account in Masvingo for the procurement of cement and Grade 7 textbooks but only handed over $4 000, triggering the action by the parents.
Maria Mubayiwa, the SDC vice-chairperson confirmed the development. She said the decision was taken after meetings with Gutu Rural District Council which runs the school and the District Schools Inspector, Ronald Muganhu. Said Mubaiwa:
We have locked the offices and taken away the keys and we have reported the matter to relevant authorities. We are tired of the abuse of resources at the school so these offices will not open until the Ministry takes its two teachers.
We met officials at Gutu RDC and the District Schools Inspector and we submitted letters listing our grievances to them.
… We were shocked to hear from Gutu RDC that the school is not paying its dues to the local authority.
Meanwhile, Muganhu said he knew nothing about the issue although he held a meeting with the parents.
This is not the first time that the head and her administration has been involved in running battles with parents over the abuse of school funds.- Masvingo Mirror
A Bulawayo man from Emganwini suburb became a butt of jokes after his estranged wife punched him all over the body while accusing him of cheating on her with a woman from the same suburb.
Nelva Dube (27) and her husband Ronald Mativenga (37) have been staying apart because Dube reportedly stumbled on WhatsApp messages that Mativenga allegedly exchanged with his girlfriend.
According to a source who is close to the pair, the now estranged couple tried everything possible to mend their relationship, but their efforts were abortive.
Seeing that things were not working between them, Nelva decided to return to stay with her parents and has been staying there for a couple of months, said a source close to the couple.
Last week on Thursday Nelva visited her husband and the two picked an argument over Mativenga’s alleged fling.
Emotions got the better of her, causing Nelva to punch her husband, said the source who witnessed the dramatic incident.
The marauding Nelva rained blows on her husband and he wailed for help while pinned to the ground, prompting neighbours to throng their matrimonial home.
Some of the neighbours poked fun at him after seeing jabs landing fast on him, said a source. One of the men who was part of the crowd came to his rescue when he grabbed the furious lady.
Mativenga, who was bleeding from the mouth, reported the matter at a police station leading to the arrest of Nelva.
Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that we arrested a lady who beat her husband over infidelity issues.”

An assessment carried out by Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development( COTRAD) has revealed that community leaders are having a torrid time in implementing key projects due to appalling roads in Zaka District.

A survey conducted by Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD) in Zaka district revealed that many gravel roads that link the wards to service centres are appalling, disrupting transport services and access to social services.
The survey revealed that the gravel roads are deteriorating at an alarming pace largely due to lack of maintenance by the Department of District Development Fund (DDF) and the Zaka Rural District Council.
The most affected road is the one that links Chinyaradza Primary School to Zaka main road and Murerekwa Primary School road from Masvingo main road. The residents also highlighted that there is need for bridges at streams that flow across Gwangwava, Mbuyamaswa villages and at Govorwe River. The residents are facing challenges in connecting from Gwangwava village to Mbuyamaswa village through Jerera village due to the state of road. During the rainy season learners at Murerekwa, Chinyaradza, Mashingaidze and Zaka secondary schools from Jerera, Bhumure, Chiongodzi, Mudziviro villages faces challenges to cross Nyatare and Govorwe rivers to attend school.
In Zaka ward 19, the gravel road that links Chipezeze and other surrounding villages to Jerera Growth Point via Muzandawe footbridge is in a bad state.
Despite prioritization of some of these roads by the Zaka RDC in 2019 and 2020 budgets, nothing has been done towards roads maintenance. COTRAD Peace Club members are engaging public officials and Zaka RDC over the concerns. The Peace Clubs members are also mobilizing the community to compliment local council in maintaining other roads which include Veza – Jerera road, Jerera – Chilo road and Zaka old road from Chiredzi River side in a bid to access basic services form service centres and Jerera Growth Point.
The residents expressed that due to poor road infrastructure, service delivery and development continues to suffer tremendous setbacks. The continuous abysmal state of road infrastructure requires immediate attention since the road transportation is the commonest means of transportation essential for the service delivery, movement of people and accessibility of local service centres and communities.
Ishmael Kupfuwa, a COTRAD officials also said:
“As COTRAD we call upon the Zaka RDC and public officials to respond to the infrastructure development concerns raised by the people. We also encourage villagers to fearlessly and peacefully engage public officials and relevant ministries to present issues affecting their communities.
The Zaka RDC should prioritize and attempt to improve services and infrastructure in rural areas. It is enshrined under section 276 of the constitution that, the rural district councils should raise sufficient revenue for them to carry out objectives and responsibilities in areas of their jurisdiction.”

New guidance from the World Health Organization (WHO) sets essential standards to inform future research and development on genetically modified mosquitoes, particularly in addressing issues relating to ethics, safety, affordability and effectiveness.
Malaria and other vector-borne diseases, including dengue and Zika, affect millions globally. More than 400 000 people a year die from malaria alone. If proven safe, effective and affordable, genetically modified vector mosquitoes could be a valuable new tool to fight these diseases and eliminate their enormous health, social and economic burden.
The guidance framework for testing genetically modified mosquitoes, developed in partnership with TDR, the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, and the GeneConvene Global Collaborative, an initiative of the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, describes best practices to ensure that the study and evaluation of genetically modified mosquitoes as public health tools is safe, ethical and rigorous.
Current strategies for limiting transmission of mosquito-borne diseases are only partially effective. New, complementary approaches are needed to close the gaps in current vector control interventions, such as effective control of outdoor biting, and to provide alternatives to manage the increasing threat of insecticide resistance. Research suggests genetically modified mosquitoes could be a powerful and cost-effective tool to supplement existing interventions.
“We urgently need innovative approaches to help control mosquito-borne diseases, which have a devastating impact around the world,” said Dr John Reeder, TDR Director. “Genetically modified mosquitoes is one such approach, but we want to be sure it’s fully and responsibly evaluated, as outlined in a recent WHO position statement.”
“Like any new public health intervention, genetically modified mosquitoes raise new questions for researchers, affected communities and other stakeholders,” said Dr Michael Santos, Director of the GeneConvene Global Collaborative.
“The updated guidance framework aims to answer these questions and help ensure that testing of genetically modified mosquitoes is as rigorous as it is for other public health products – and that it generates quality results to guide decisions about if and how these technologies are used.”
“Over the last 2 decades, we have achieved remarkable results with existing malaria control tools, averting more than 7 million deaths and 1.5 billion cases of the disease,” said Dr Pedro Alonso, Director of the WHO Global Malaria Programme.
“However, progress towards key targets of our global malaria strategy remains off course. Genetically modified mosquitoes are one of a number of promising new tools that could help speed the pace of progress against malaria and other vector-borne diseases.”
“The incidence of dengue continues to increase and affect people in over 129 countries, so we need more sustainable vector control tools to stem the tide of dengue and other arboviral diseases and a few novel tools offer the potential to control these diseases,” said Dr Mwele Malecela, Director of the WHO Department for the Control of Neglected Tropical Diseases.

By Sindile Ncube- If the Zimbabwean constitution was observed correctly, the majority of the people at the top of Zanu pf would have been arrested way back in the 1980s.
The reason why this has never happened is because the judiciary is so far deep inside the pockets of Zanu that it is used to clean up the party’s metaphorical bottom.
Recently, there has been this fake furore about the extension of tenor of that judge who legalised the 2017 coup who then went on to preside a whitewash of the ConCourt hearing about election rigging in the 2018. I’m no law expert, and I have all the respect for all the lawyers out there who work hard defending the defenceless people in Zimbabwe.
However, I get frustrated whenever I see Zimbabweans spending days on end quoting sections of the law and constitution in an effort to demonstrate the illegality of Zanu’s actions in this saga.
It is frustrating because by now no one should be in any doubt that the constitution and the law in Zimbabwe is what the Zanu presidium and military says it is. The Zimbabwean judiciary is essentially Zanu’s legal department.
They are another arm of the party just like the war vets, the military, green bombers and a raft of other subsidised henchmen. The only difference is that the judges are more coherent when justifying their function in the country’s dictatorship.
Moreover, judges possess a facade of respectability from wearing those wigs and robes. But if they took off those costumes you couldn’t tell them apart from the rest of the wrinkly old men in Zanu who are ruining the country.
In fact, some of the judges are also war veterans and former soldiers which is typical of Zanu to have revolving doors between its instruments of power.
Whether a judge is given the stamp to be chief justice until they are 156 years is not the real problem. The problem is that all the top judges in this dictatorship are oversubsidised legal enablers whose job it is to whitewash Zanu’s human rights abuses and criminality. P
eople still have fresh memories of those judges snarling and frowning during that 2018 ConCourt hearing the end of which they ignored clear evidence of electoral tampering. But the judicial isn’t completely oppressive of the Zimbabwean people all the time about everything.
No. It serves justice in some issues, but on the important issue about who rules the country and who gets to get away with criminality, the judiciary will always serve the interests of whoever is in control of Zanu.
We saw this in 2017 during the coup when Mugabe’s house was surrounded by armed soldiers. The courts somehow found an angle to say that the coup was legal because at that moment Mugabe had lost power and ED and Chiwenga were now deciding the law.
Right now there is an ongoing campaign to get people to register to vote in the 2023 election. Indeed, registering is one of the steps people should take in order to get their voices heard, but the vote will need to be secured.
One of the ways of securing the vote is to have people observing the votes, their transportation and most importantly the tallying at ZEC HQ. This is what we democrats should be focused on, not these internal squabbles in Zanu. 2023 is not far, let’s keep our eyes on the prize.

An assessment carried out by Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development( COTRAD) has revealed that community leaders are having a torrid time in implementing key projects due to appalling roads in Zaka District.

A survey conducted by Community Tolerance Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD) in Zaka district revealed that many gravel roads that link the wards to service centres are appalling, disrupting transport services and access to social services.
The survey revealed that the gravel roads are deteriorating at an alarming pace largely due to lack of maintenance by the Department of District Development Fund (DDF) and the Zaka Rural District Council.
The most affected road is the one that links Chinyaradza Primary School to Zaka main road and Murerekwa Primary School road from Masvingo main road. The residents also highlighted that there is need for bridges at streams that flow across Gwangwava, Mbuyamaswa villages and at Govorwe River. The residents are facing challenges in connecting from Gwangwava village to Mbuyamaswa village through Jerera village due to the state of road. During the rainy season learners at Murerekwa, Chinyaradza, Mashingaidze and Zaka secondary schools from Jerera, Bhumure, Chiongodzi, Mudziviro villages faces challenges to cross Nyatare and Govorwe rivers to attend school.
In Zaka ward 19, the gravel road that links Chipezeze and other surrounding villages to Jerera Growth Point via Muzandawe footbridge are in a bad state. Despite prioritization of some of these roads by the Zaka RDC in 2019 and 2020 budgets, nothing has been done towards roads maintenance. COTRAD Peace Club members are engaging public officials and Zaka RDC over the concerns. The Peace Clubs members are also mobilizing the community to compliment local council in maintaining other roads which include Veza – Jerera road, Jerera – Chilo road and Zaka old road from Chiredzi River side in a bid to access basic services form service centres and Jerera Growth Point.
The residents expressed that due to poor road infrastructure, service delivery and development continues to suffer tremendous setbacks. The continuous abysmal state of road infrastructure requires immediate attention since the road transportation is the commonest means of transportation essential for the service delivery, movement of people and accessibility of local service centres and communities.
Ishmael Kupfuwa, a COTRAD officials also said:
“As COTRAD we call upon the Zaka RDC and public officials to respond to the infrastructure development concerns raised by the people. We also encourage villagers to fearlessly and peacefully engage public officials and relevant ministries to present issues affecting their communities.
The Zaka RDC should prioritize and attempt to improve services and infrastructure in rural areas. It is enshrined under section 276 of the constitution that, the rural district councils should raise sufficient revenue for them to carry out objectives and responsibilities in areas of their jurisdiction.”
The government has dismissed reports claiming that Kwekwe City has been placed under lockdown to curb the spread of the Indian coronavirus (B.1.617) variant in the city.
A 15-point letter emerged last night suggesting that the government had ordered the closure of shops and bars including prohibiting the movement of people.
Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Larry Mavima who is also the provincial COVID-19 taskforce chair, said the circulating report was fake.
Kwekwe Mayor, Councillor Angeline Kasipo said she has been inundated with calls from members of the public asking about the “lockdown” announcement.

Risk communication activities must be upped since we need our communities to be aware of what is going on if at all they are comply with COVID19 regulations. Community health workers are to come on board as well.
ZUPCO buses to be engaged so that they avoid bus overloading but must maintain social distancing all the time. The Taskforce chair to ensure this point is effected
Scale down all peoples’ markets operations and ensure adherence to COVID-19 regulations religiously. Social distancing, handwashing, and sanitization to be prioritised.
Starting from tomorrow the 21 of May 2021, all contacts will be tested for COVID-19 i.e. whether they display any signs and symptoms or not.
On discharge of all those who will have tested positive to the COVID-19 virus and have completed 10 days, they will be mandated to be tested again with PCR before they are finally discharged.
All health workers (EHTS. Nurses, Lab Staff, and where applicable Community Based Health Workers) who are involved in contact tracing, active case finding, treatment, Lab Tests and risk communication must be tested for COVID-19.
Kwekwe General Hospital to avail manpower (Doctors and Nurses) to help with sample collection.
The district is activating all its quarantine isolation and treatment centres with immediate effect and these include Bell Medical Centre in Redcliff, Kwekwe General Hospital and Kwekwe City Isolation Disease Hospital (IDH)
Adjustments to the above list shall be subject to review as and when its necessary to do so in order to achieve the desired goals and objectives.

The 12 Mash West MDC Alliance leaders who were forcibly taken to Chinhoyi Central Police station by armed soldiers and Police officers on 20 February 2021 for allegedly violating COVID-19 lockdown regulations appeared before Chinhoyi Magistrate Ruth Moyo but the case was further adjourned to 28 May 2021 as the Defense Counsel was in Chiredzi on urgent business matters.

By A Correspondent- Then Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede allegedly took a Support Unit team from Rhodesville Police Station in Harare in the late 2000s to evict a woman from a plot at Ballinettey Farm in Mazowe after stealing her irrigation equipment worth US$10 000.
Mudede is said to have roped in the police with assistance from Inspector Mwenje, who was then officer-in-charge at Rhodesville and used them to evict Jacquiline Mukanganyama from Plot 10, Ballinettey Farm in Mazowe West. At that time, Mudede allegedly bragged that he was untouchable since he was the Registrar General.
Yesterday at Harare Magistrates Court Mudede (70) appeared charged with theft. He was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him to June 23 on free bail.
Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti, appearing for the State, said Mudede was the holder of Plot 1 at Ballinettey Farm.
In 2002 Ms Mukanganyama was offered Plot 10 measuring 70 hectares and started farming there and was also given the responsibility of the taking care of the remaining State land and other properties.
In 2007, Mudede was offered subdivisions 1,2,3,4,13 and the remainder of Ballinettey, a total of 712.64ha after a heated boundary dispute between him, Ms Mukanganyama and other neighbours. Mudede, according to the State, had his offer letter registered by the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture in 2009.
Further allegations are that Mudede then forcefully went to occupy the farm house which was at the boundary of Ms Munkanganyama’s farm and the remaining State Land, which was under her caretakership.
The court heard that Mudede evicted Mukanganyama and stole irrigation equipment which included aluminium pipes, a 20-horse power Mono pump, submersible pump and plates worth US$10 000.
It is said that when Ms Mukanganyama attempted to recover her allegedly stolen items, Mudede assembled the team of Support Unit police from Rhodesville, who allegedly went to intimidate and assault Ms Mukanganyama. Mudede was arrested on Wednesday and subsequently taken to court charged with theft.-statemedia

But with the advancement of communication technology which saw the introduction of popular social networking sites such as Facebook and WhatsApp it seems this Biblical advice which is apparently gaining currency is being misinterpreted by many.
Ask Boniface Moyo from Queens Park East suburb in Bulawayo who nearly killed his neighbour Amos Maunga when he allegedly assaulted him with an iron metal bar, knobkerrie and fists all over the body after he suspected that he was dating his wife, Nomasiko Moyo.
This was after Boniface’s son came across a thread of “saucy” messages in his mother’s cellphone which she was allegedly exchanging with Maunga via Facebook.
The seemingly suspicious son took the cellphone to his father who later confronted Maunga and ruthlessly bashed him.
Proceedings to the near-tragic incident are that sometime in February this year Maunga started communicating with Boniface’s wife after she requested her friendship on Facebook.
The two reportedly started to communicate and sent each other charming and saucy messages.
As fate would have it, sometime in April this year Nomasiko’s son took his mother’s phone to play games. While playing games, a message from Maunga popped up and when he opened it, he was shocked to discover that the message which was asking after his mother’s health was from their neighbour Maunga.
The seemingly stunned boy quickly took the phone to his father and the latter after reading the message, discovered that the two had been communicating for some time. He reportedly failed to control his temper and confronted Maunga. He forcibly dragged him to his house where he subjected him to a thorough hiding.
As a result of the savage attack Maunga sustained a swollen head, forehead, and bruises on his face.
Surprisingly he didn’t report the matter to the police but approached the Bulawayo Civil Court to seek a peace order against Boniface.
He however, didn’t come to court to corroborate his claims in his affidavit leading to his application being struck off the roll.
The Zimbabwe Human Rights Forum has called on the African Union to call to order the Zimbabwean government’s stance to violates the basic principles of democracy and respect of human rights.
We publish below the fill statement by the Forum published in its latest bulletin:
The Forum appealed to the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR) to ensure the Government of Zimbabwe applies the basic tenants of democracy and respect for human rights in the country.
The appeal was made in a statement presented and read at the recently ended Virtual 68th Ordinary Session of the African Commission on Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR).
The statement presented by the Forum highlighted several concerns of ongoing human rights to read violations in Zimbabwe. The Forum raised concern on the exploitation of COVID-19 regulations by the security services sector to effectively clamp down and restrict the constitutionally enshrined rights of citizens.
Between January and April 2021, 38 cases of assault and torture involving members of the security sector have been recorded while 59 cases of arbitrary arrest are on record. “State security agents continue to be at the epicentre of incidents of arrest, torture, abduction and harassment of perceived opposition figures and dissenting voices. Notably, human rights defenders, journalists and opposition party supporters remain the targeted recipients of aggressive retributive justice, frequently under the guise of enforcing COVID-19 regulations,” noted the Forum.
“A systematic culture of impunity and lack of political will to address these injustices has resulted in an increase in incidents of organised violence and torture with 938 cases of organised violence and torture being recorded by the Forum in 2020.”
The suspension of election under the guise of COVID-19 was also flagged out as a blatant violation of the citizens’ right to representation. The statement referred to the successful holding of elections in Tanzania and Malawi under strict adherence to COVID-19 measures as regional examples that Zimbabwe should follow if the authorities are sincere about upholding democracy and respect for human rights.
“The Forum is concerned with the continued exclusion and disenfranchisement of citizens from representation through electoral processes, particularly as at least 35 parliamentary seats and 165 local council seats are currently vacant.
Whilst the Forum commends the resumption of voter registration and some field work by the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, the continued suspension of by-elections denies citizens representation.”
Other subjects on concern raised with the Commission include imminent threats to civic space through draconian laws; pending constitutional amendments deemed undemocratic and the misuse of the justice system to silence dissenting voices.
By A Correspondent- Police commanders have been directed to immediately put to an end the rampant child kidnappings, ritual killings, traffic chaos caused by pirate taxis and general armed robberies targeting families and individuals with large sums of cash.
In addition, the behaviour of some police officers in public places, such as drinking in uniform and engaging in untoward behaviour was roundly condemned by Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe on Wednesday when he addressed senior officers in Harare.
“What is more worrisome is that in most instances, the victims are later found dead. Government is deeply concerned that the nation is being robbed of future leaders,” said Minister Kazembe.
“The onus is on you as (ZRP) Commanders to come up with robust strategies to bring this to an end. We should remain mindful of the fact that we have a constitutional mandate to protect life and property.”
Other concerns from citizens arising from a surge in armed robberies, lawlessness on the roads, congestion in cities and towns, illegal panners and alleged involvement of police in some of the criminal activities.
On armed robberies, Minister Kazembe said they were a cause of concern especially as the criminals appear to be targeting places and individuals with large sums of foreign currency.
“It is also worrisome to note that there is rampant use of firearms by people perpetrating robberies and murders. I cannot, therefore, overemphasise the urgent need to tame this tide.
“Our country has always been renowned for swiftly accounting (for) and bringing the perpetrators of armed robberies to justice,” he said.
Minister Kazembe said the reckless behaviour, especially of pirate taxis and commuter omnibuses, has reached unacceptable levels on the roads, which are quickly being turned into traffic jungle.
There are concerns that some of the pirate taxis belong to police officers, some of whom drive the vehicles putting on police uniform to get easy passage at police check points.
Law enforcement officers were implored to heighten vigilance on congestion in the cities, which has seen driving becoming a nightmare during morning peak periods and any time from 4pm up to 6pm, mainly in Harare.
On lawlessness associated with illegal panners (makorokoza) and alleged involvement of police, Minister Kazembe said, “Just before the country went into the first lockdown in March last year, the issue of Chikorokoza and machete gangs had been put under control.
“However, it is undeniable that this scourge has reared its ugly head once again and the level of lawlessness is unfathomable. More disturbing is the alleged involvement of police in some of the syndicates and abetting the lawlessness. And this cannot surely be allowed to continue.”
He also added that some of the behaviour being exhibited by the police in public leaves a lot to be desired.
“At times, we find ourselves asking, are these real police officers? Cases where we are witnessing some police officers drunk in uniform and in public are becoming rampant. There is need to restore discipline among the rank and file,” he said.
Minister Kazembe said the enforcement of Covid-19 lockdown measures had been largely commendable save for pockets of corrupt police details exploiting members of the public.
“For instance, rogue police officers are colluding with bottle stores and bar outlets resulting in the illegal sale of liquor. Remember, all such premises are currently prohibited from operating under Covid-19 lockdown measures. Let us therefore continue to heighten enforcement as the country is not yet out of the woods and a third wave is lurking on the horizon,” he said. He said the complaints he had alluded to as issues raised were quite pertinent and required urgent attention.
“Police Commanders, it can never be business as usual when we fail to guarantee peace and security in the country more so the safety of children. Let us all remember that we swore to serve our great nation. The Zimbabwe Republic Police remains duty bound to maintain law and order, and above all to bring all offenders to justice,” the minister said.
He applauded the ZRP for unveiling its new roadmap, the Strategic Plan Horizon 2025 and that the ZRP Strategic Plan’s broad objectives and key deliverables were aligned to key national policy instruments such as the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS I).
Minister Kazembe said government was alive to the fact that policing the world over demands adequate funding and his recent tour of various police establishments countrywide laid bare of the various challenges being faced by the organisation in the execution of its mandate.
He said concerted efforts were being made by the government to avail the requisite resources which include modern policing technological gadgets and equipment.-statemedia
By A Correspondent- Daniel Mabaso from Gwabalanda suburb in Bulawayo is a heartbroken man. This is because his cheating wife Singinkosi Mabaso was in the habit of beating him up whenever he confronted her about her infidelity.
And what hurts Daniel more is that Singinkosi had since moved out of the matrimonial home to stay with one of her alleged lovers.
Before she moved out of the house, Singinkosi was always coming home late and at times sleeping out claiming that she would be at a friend’s place which her husband was not aware of.
An aggrieved Daniel poured his heart out at the Bulawayo Civil Court where he was seeking a protection order against Singinkosi claiming she was abusive towards him.
“Singinkosi Mabaso is my wife but we are no longer staying together. She moved out of the house in December 2020 after I discovered that she was cheating on me with a married man. She has been verbally and physically abusing me.
“At one time she poured a bucketful of water on me while I was sleeping on the bed. Before she moved out of the house she was always coming home late and at times she would lie that she will be sleeping at a friend’s place,” complained Daniel.
He said when he tried to reprimand her about her cheating behaviour, Singinkosi would turn violent and assault him.
“When I tried to reprimand her over her infidelity, she threatened me saying I would be assaulted or killed by unknown people. When she came to collect her clothes; she forcibly took my phone saying I owed her money. When I tried to take it back, she then stabbed me with a pair of scissors,” said Daniel.
In response Singinkosi dismissed her estranged husband’s accusations. She said Daniel was also violent towards her.
“He is also violent and we used to fight. I have a scar on my eye which he inflicted on me while we were fighting. It is not true that I stabbed him with a scissors, I prickled him with my long nails. The problem we were always fighting is that he didn’t want us to move from Gwabalanda where we were staying close to his sister’s house,” responded Singinkosi.
In her ruling presiding magistrate Nkosinomusa Ncube ordered the parties not to physically abuse each other before he referred them for counselling.
By Israel Dube- On Tuesday 18 May Zimbabwe demonstrated before the people of Matabeleland and the world that it cherishes its genocidal past without any remorse when it voted against a UN Assembly measure that seeks to protect vulnerable populations against genocide, war crimes, ethnic cleansing and crimes against humanity.
This shows that the blood thirst and vampiric Zimbabwe Shona supremacist state is proud of its genocidal background and wants to continue with wanton slaughter of innocent Matabele people.
All eyes in Matabeleland were on the Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe to see if it was really prepared to stop its evil culture of genocide and gross human rights abuse against Matabeles. But Zimbabwe and its partner in crime, North Korea, its Hutu blood relative, Burundi and 12 other rogue states voted against the UN measure to stop genocide.
This has exposed its suspicious “exhume and rebury” exercise to be performed on Matabeleland genocide victims in Matabeleland as “Phariseeist hypocrisy” designed to deceive Matabele people and the world into believing that the terrorist government was committed to resolving Matabeleland genocide issue.
We always knew that Emmerson Mnangagwa who is now known as the Undertaker for his strange interest in digging Matabeleland genocide graves as well as his predecessor’s grave, Robert Mugabe, was never interested in resolving Matabeleland genocide issue but wanted to get rid of Matabeleland genocide evidence.
He cannot say he is committed to resolving Matabeleland genocide but at the same time vote against a UN measure that seeks to protect vulnerable minorities from being butchered through genocides and ethnic cleansing.
To us Matabele people, the survivors of Matabeleland genocide, Mnangagwa’s message is loud and clear:
i) he is not interested in resolving Matabeleland genocide
ii) his oppressive Shona supremacist government is not prepared to provide security to the vulnerable populations of Matabeleland who are survivors of Matabele genocide
iii) he wants us to remain open to human slaughter and genocide by any future Shona supremacist government
iv) he wants us to live in fear of the second Matabeleland genocide so that we submit ourselves under oppressive Shona tribal rule forever
We advise the money loving Judases of our times in Matabeleland who are currently assisting the Zimbabwe government to erase Matabeleland genocide by digging genocide graves to open their eyes and see that they are being manipulated through money and used to get rid of Matabeleland genocide evidence.
This calls for all the people of Matabeleland who have suffered and continue to suffer genocide at the hands of this tribalist government to realise that the genocidairs are unremorseful, unrepentant and hellbent on wiping out Matabele nation. And that Matabeleland genocide 2 is on its way as long Matabele people remain under Zimbabwe.
To them, the cold blooded slaughter of more than 40 000 innocent Matabele civilian masses, raping of more than 100 000 Matabele women, burning down of more than 100 000 Matabele homes, displacement of more than 1 million Matabele people and tribal oppression of 5 million Matabele people who remain in Zimbabwe was not enough.
They will never stop up and until Matabele nation is completely annihilated and only when the Shona tribes which regard themselves as superior than others, take over Matabeleland and remain the only living tribes in Zimbabwe and Matabeleland.
This dangerous situation demands that all Matabele people unite behind Matabeleland Liberation Organisation (MLO) to fight for the restoration of Matabeleland state as at 3 November 1893 using all means possible, demand US $100 billion from the government of Zimbabwe as compensation for Matabeleland genocide.
Where the broke Shona supremacist government of Zimbabwe will source the above mentioned amount of money is none of our business. That the amount is too high is none of our business too.
To the majority people of Matabeleland we say, the road to independence is a bit rough. The oppressor will have to scream a bit but there are good returns, the ultimate reward is freedom.
To the sellouts we say, some of you have already exposed themselves while some are yet to be discovered. You cannot be a member of 20 rival political organizations and expect that people of Matabeleland are so stupid to see that you are playing games, hey you traitorous nomad people can see through you!
You cannot release more than 500 statements in which you contradict yourself many times and still fool yourself that Matabele people will not see that you are a sellout. You cannot vomit and turn around to eat your own vomit and hope the people of Matabeleland will not see that you are a sellout idiot.
You cannot attack Matabeleland cause and the oppressed Matabeles everyday on behalf of your master in Harare and expect them praise you. No no no! The necklace is the only deserving reward that shall be given to you. A sellout is a low life not respected even by its own master. We shall never lose sleep or apologise for rewarding a traitor accordingly.

By A Correspondent- A married man who could not accept being ditched by his girlfriend confronted her at her home and took her panties and beat her up while accusing her of dumping him.
Shelton Xolisani Sithole (40) is married and has been in a sexual affair with his girlfriend Simangaliso Tshuma (35), who lives in Njube suburb.
When Tshuma discovered that her flame was married, their love affair hit the skids as she told him that they had to end their relationship.
However, Sithole could not accept that and would visit Tshuma at her place without notifying her and would torment her for dumping him. When things got out of hand, he would bash her.
Sithole would take his uncivil tactics a step higher as he would insult her while labelling her a person of loose morals.
To show that he was bitter, Sithole confronted Tshuma at her workplace to embarrass her and unleashed insults at her while accusing her of “using” him and dumping him.
Sithole would, time after time, confront his lover at her home and when she hid from him, he would kick the door and storm in. He would even enter his girlfriend’s parents’ bedroom to search for her while shouting obscenities.
In a bid to fix her, he took her car battery, car keys and a mat which was in her car. He has issued threats against her and told her that he would stab her to death.
Seeing that her life could be cut short, Tshuma approached the Western Commonage courts and sought a protection order against her married lover.
“My name is Simangaliso Tshuma, I’m applying for a protection order against my ex-lover Shelton Xolisani Sithole. We were in love for quite some time, but when I discovered that he was married, I told him that we have to end the affair. He could not accept it. He would come to my home anytime and he would beat me for no apparent reason. He even confronted me at my workplace and took my shoes and panties. He is in the habit of phoning me to insult me,” she said.
She added :
“He would come to my home and when he fails to find me in the sitting room he would search for me in my bedroom and even in my parents’ bedroom.
He would threaten to kill me by stabbing me to death. He took many things in my car and also took my car battery, car keys and a mat. At times he would phone me even during the night and insult me.”
Sithole did not come to court.
The presiding magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube granted Tshuma a protection order against her abusive ex-lover. Sithole was ordered not to physically and verbally abuse Tshuma. He was also ordered not to go to her home or phone her.
By A Correspondent- For one woman Judy Takanai from Barbourfields suburb in Bulawayo refused to let go of resentment when she held a mock funeral procession for her ex-lover Vushe Marime, a nurse at Mpilo Central Hospital after his matrimonial property was attached by the Messenger of Court.

Marime’s property comprising a four-plate Defy stove, five-piece kitchen suite, Samsung bar fridge, KIC fridge, one brown coffee table and 5kg gas cylinder stove was attached over legal costs incurred by Judy’s husband Claudio Takanai when he sued him for bedding his wife.
In 2019, Claudio slapped Marime with a US$10 000 adultery lawsuit as punishment for bedding his wife (Judy), and after the protracted legal battle, Claudio later sued him (Marime) for the huge costs he incurred as a result of their bruising fight.

Marime, however, failed to pay the costs reportedly amounting to $28 000 leading to his property being attached by the Messenger of Court and it is now set to go under the hammer.
As a way of celebrating her ex-lover’s downfall, Judy bought a coffin and inscribed it with his name and paraded it around Mzilikazi suburb claiming it was the end of the road for him.
The coffin was inscribed with the following words: “Rest in Hell Vushe Marime, totally knocked out”.
Speaking to B-Metro Judy who was unapologetic about her actions said it was a way of celebrating her husband’s victory after he had forgiven her for cheating on him with Marime.
“Marime offended my husband when he wanted to withdraw the lawsuit when he said it was a ploy to extort money from him. When we were still dating, he ordered me to kill my husband so that he could remain the only man in my life.
“He volunteered to organise some injections for me which I could use to kill my unsuspecting husband and that is when I dumped him. We, however, incurred legal costs which he was made to pay and he failed leading to his property being attached by the Messenger of Court. He is supposed to pay about $28 300 excluding storage costs,” said Judy.
What incensed Claudio to take legal action was that when he approached Marime requesting him to terminate the relationship in November 2018 he refused and told him he was not man enough. He also boasted about the size of his manhood.
Through his lawyer, Claudio sued Marime and part of the suit reads: “Sometime in November 2018, my client found out about the illicit affair from a co-worker who revealed that on several occasions Marime had sexual intercourse with his wife at various lodges in Bulawayo.
“The adulterous relationship between the two has destroyed a happy marriage as Mrs Takanai has become vindictive towards my client and has stopped performing her conjugal duties and supporting her husband emotionally.
“Furthermore, he has been humiliated by Marime who boasts about the size of his sexual reproductive organ. The effects of the adulterous relationship are far reaching as their children are also affected due to the misunderstandings between the couple.
As a result of the adultery, my client has suffered damages namely contumelia inflicted upon him in the sum of US$5 000 and the loss of consortium in the sum of US$5 000.”
In his response Marime, through his lawyer, stated that he had never been in an adulterous relationship with Claudio’s wife.
“All was a fabrication to extort money from him since both plaintiff and his wife were not gainfully employed. Further to that defendant is liable to any confession by the plaintiff’s wife as all this was a fabrication to extort money from him,” reads part of Marime’s opposing affidavit.
Marime who lost the case and was ordered to pay the damages, had his property attached by the Messenger of Court after he failed to pay the legal costs of the successful party (Claudio).
In a bid to stop the disposal of the property, Marime’s wife Calister Hapanyengwi filed an inter-pleader application claiming she was the owner of the attached property and purchased it sometime in 2016 and had since disposed of the receipts.
She argued that she was never a party to any proceedings between Marime and Claudio.
Paradoxically, her sister Sharon also filed an inter-pleader application stating that the property belonged to her and she had given it to Calister and Marime when they got married to just use it and not to dispose it.
“Ever since I gave the property for use it was agreed that they will never dispose of the same but instead they will have the right to buy the same from me if ever they have the funds.
“My main contention revolves around the fact that my property cannot be used to settle a judgment debt which I’m not part of or connected to in any manner,” she stated.
In his ruling the presiding magistrate Tinashe Tashaya found no merits in the inter-pleader proceedings by Calister and Sharon.
“I say so because there are two affidavits before the court, one by Calister Hapanyengwi who is the judgment debtor’s wife and the other by Sharon Hapanyengwi who is the applicant’s sister.
“They are both claiming the same property in their affidavits. Applicant in casu claims she bought the property personally and has since disposed of the receipts. On the other hand, the affidavit by Sharon reveals that the property belongs to her and she gave to Calister and Marime to use with an option to buy the same if they have the funds,” stated Tashaya.
He adds: “In light of the two conflicting affidavits, one then wonders who between the two is really the owner of the property. The inference to be drawn is that these two have colluded in order to deprive respondent of his judgment debt. It is on these premises that the application for stay of execution is dismissed.”
A Truck driver died on the spot after being involved in an accident with a Zupco bus along Luveve Road.
The accident occurred on Tuesday night at around 8PM at the Luveve Road and Huggins Road junction.
Bulawayo province police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.
Police said the truck driver (26) from New Magwegwe suburb failed to give way at the road junction and his vehicle was involved in an accident with a Chikozho bus operating under the Zupco scheme.
“Circumstances are that the first party was driving a Toyota Dyna truck due south along Huggins Road and he failed to give way at the T-junction of Huggins and Luveve Road where he collided with the second party who was driving an AVM bus due east along Luveve road,” said Insp Ncube.
He said the truck driver sustained serious injuries and he died on the spot.
“As a result of the accident, the second party sustained no visible injuries. The first party sustained head and abdominal injuries and died on the spot. His body was taken to United Bulawayo Hospitals mortuary for postmortem,” said Insp Ncube.
He blamed the accident on speeding by the truck driver who failed to give way.
“The first party’s vehicle sustained extensive frontal damages, shattered the windscreen. The second party’s vehicle sustained frontal and right-side body damages. The accident might have been caused by the first party who was travelling at an excessive speed in the circumstances and failed to give way,” he said.
The police spokesperson urged motorists to adhere to road rules to save lives.
“Police in Bulawayo are appealing to members of the public to obey road traffic regulations so as to avoid such accidents from occurring. Also, they must avoid speeding as speed kills,” he said.
The angry outburst by Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi (pictured) following the landmark ruling by the three High Court judges, rendering null and void the decision by President Emmerson Mnangagwa to extend Chief Justice Luke Malaba’s retirement age by five years, has renewed concerns over judiciary independence.
The ruling was made by Justices Happias Zhou, Helena Charewa and Edith Mushore. The extension of Malaba’s term of office was after the passing of Constitutional Amendment No. 2 which, among other things, gives Mnangagwa unfettered powers to appoint judges and is seen as a ploy to entrench his hold to power and influence the judiciary.
Ziyambi said the judgment against Malaba was a “typical case of a night court, consisting of night judges and night lawyers”.
“With the greatest of respect, we do not agree with the decision of the court for so many reasons, we have already instructed our lawyers to file an appeal first thing on Monday (this week),” he charged.
“We do not understand how the Honourable Justice Zhou insisted on proceeding with the matter after we sought his recusal because he is clearly conflicted.”
Ziyambi claimed Zhou, who read the judgment, was sympathetic to the opposition because he was seconded to the bench by the late former prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai during the inclusive government era.
“They (opposition) accuse us of capturing the judiciary, but what happened is a typical case of judicial capture,” he fumed.
Ziyambi claimed that Western countries were sponsoring local non-governmental organisations to interfere with government activities.
Government has since appealed against the ruling in the Supreme Court.
The Ziyambi outburst has sparked outrage with the Justice minister accused of not only interfering with the judiciary, but also threatening the jurists.
Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum executive director Musa Kika, who challenged the extension of Malaba’s term, wrote to Judge President George Chiweshe, Registrar of the High Court and the three judges who heard the matter, demanding action against Ziyambi.
The Law Society of Zimbabwe (LSZ) said Ziyambi’s utterances were unacceptable.
“We have carefully considered the statement and we are of the view that on the face of it, it was contemptuous of the court that dealt with this matter. A litigant aggrieved by a court decision has a right of appeal and such displeasure must be addressed through an appeal filed at court. A public statement attacking a court of law has the effect of ridiculing the judiciary, thereby, diminishing public confidence in the institution.”
The LSZ described Ziyambi’s attacks on the judges as unfair, unwarranted and unnecessary, especially coming from a minister responsible for justice, who is also a lawyer.
The rabid remarks of Ziyambi are a major concern particularly when it comes to the relationship between executive and the judiciary according to political analyst Eldred Masunungure.
“We have come to a critical juncture in the relationship between the executive and the judiciary and whether the judiciary can excuse autonomy. We wait with bated breath” Masunungure said. “What is happening is not good for the constitutionality of the country. It is neither compulsory nor necessary for the government to take this path, it is incredible.”
Masunungure said the confrontation between government and judiciary has negative implications for the government’s drive to lure investment, pointing out that investors will be concerned over how the country’s supreme law can be mutilated at the whim of political interests.
Political analyst Ibbo Mandaza said the trashing of Mnangagwa’s decision to extend Malaba’s term indicates that there is resistance within the judiciary to the abuse of the bench by the government.
“It appears that the judiciary is not homogenous, it shows that of the captured judiciary there are clear exceptions to it. Younger members of the judiciary have rebelled by protecting the constitution against the assault on democracy,” Mandaza pointed out. “Ziyambi’s rant shows a wounded state. You cannot have a justice minister speaking like that. It is disgraceful. These are the minions around Emmerson Mnangagwa. It is disgusting. Period.”
Late last year, judges wrote a letter to Mnangagwa complaining of interference in the discharge of their duties by Malaba.
“What is repeated in the public domain and on social media about the capture of the judiciary is no longer fiction or perception, it is in fact reality,” the judges wrote to Mnangagwa. “At the superior courts, it is an open secret that judges no longer enjoy any respect and that administrative staff now spy on judges and report to the various registrars, who in turn make reports to the Judicial Service Commission secretariat for onward reporting to the Chief Justice.”
Although the government dismissed the letter, which was signed off with the words “your long suffering judges” and copied to the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission and the Attorney-General Prince Machaya, it has added traction to widespread accusations that the judiciary in Zimbabwe is captured by the executive.
The independence of the judiciary has come under scrutiny when it comes to decisions made against politicians in the opposition. Among the many cases, the 2002 presidential election petition by the late Tsvangirai stands out.
The court application by the then opposition leader, who contested the result which declared then president Robert Mugabe the winner of that election, is still pending 18 years later. The petition was briefly heard by High Court Judge Ben Hlatshawayo before being put on hold, never to be resumed again.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa is faced with a dilemma over who to appoint the new chief justice (CJ), amid indications that the recently retired Luke Malaba could ditch the fight to extend his tenure by five years, it has emerged.
This followed a ruling by the High Court last Saturday that Malaba had ceased to be chief justice by operation of law when he turned 70 on May 15.
Justices Happias Zhou, Edith Mushore and Jester Helena Charewa ruled that Malaba could not benefit from Constitutional Amendment (No 2) Bill, which Mnangagwa had hurriedly signed into law a few days earlier, because the term extension provided by section 186 of the Constitution did not apply to any sitting judges of the Constitutional Court and Supreme Court.
The ruling effectively blocked the move by Mnangagwa to extend Malaba’s tenure by five years.
Government appealed the ruling with Justice minister Ziyambi Ziyambi attacking the judges for the ruling which left Mnangagwa having to choose a new CJ from a list he appears not to be comfortable with.
Analysts said Mnangagwa begrudgingly recognised that he had made a mistake in extending Malaba’s term when he said on Tuesday that he accepted the ruling by the High Court in apparent rebuke to Ziyambi for questioning the Judiciary’s impartiality.
Sources close to the developments also said Malaba could throw in the towel following the furore and legal challenges the move had created.
Following the recent amendments to the Constitution, Mnangagwa can appoint Malaba’s replacement without subjecting them to public interviews, although he still has to consult the Judicial Service Commission.
“In the event of Malaba electing to decline the extension of his era by the President, the pending appeals lodged by Ziyambi Ziyambi and the Attorney-General (Prince Machaya) will just be for academic purposes. This will render the selection of the next chief justice wide open,” a source told NewsDay.
Deputy CJ Elizabeth Gwaunza is the Acting CJ with sources saying the frontrunners were three judges with liberation war credentials Justices Charles Hungwe, George Chiweshe and Chinembiri Bhunu.
Justice Gwaunza was also in the running, along with Justices Paddington Garwe and Rita Makarau, the sources added.
Garwe and Makarau were appointed to the Constitutional Court yesterday.
The Acting CJ is 68 years old and hails from Gutu in Masvingo while Makarau, who hails from Goromonzi in Mashonaland East, is the youngest contender at 61. She was strongly favoured before Malaba was appointed to replace the late Godfrey Chidyausiku by the late former President Robert Mugabe on March 27, 2017, some eight months before he was deposed by the military.
Chiweshe (68) is the current Judge President, a position he has held since 2010. He comes from Mazowe and he has liberation war credentials his Chimurenga name was Yasser Arafat after the late Palestinian leader. At independence, he joined the army and rose to the rank of brigadier general before retirement. He retired from the army in 2001 upon his appointment to the bench. He is also a former chairperson of the Delimitation Commission of Zimbabwe, to which he was appointed in 2004. In 2005, he was appointed to head the newly established Zimbabwe Electoral Commission.
Another contender is Justice Hungwe, another war veteran and lawyer aged 63. He is the founding national chairperson of the Zimbabwe National Liberation War Veterans Association.
Justice Bhunu (63), from Masvingo, is a war veteran seen as another favourite. A former Senior President of the Labour Court, he was appointed to the Supreme Court in 2015.
The 67-year-old Justice Garwe is one of the most senior judges currently on the bench. He previously held positions such as chief magistrate and secretary for the Justice ministry.
“It would be prudent for Malaba to preserve whatever little has been left of his legacy by declining the extension of his tenure. It is not in the best interest of the Judiciary in Zimbabwe that from the look of things he seems to have worked in cahoots with politicians to extend his tenure as CJ, wherein the Constitution was rushed through Parliament for his sole benefit,” said a senior lawyer, who declined identification.
ZANU PF coupist Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to forcibly exhume his late boss’ remains against the wishes of his family, just as his top leadership demands to obtain among others, Robert Mugabe’s sceptre.
The development comes as there are assumptions that Mugabe was buried with his staff. According to many close state house aides, the country is struggling because of the missing staff, which is known in shona as Tsvimbo.

Chief Zvimba has said he wants Mrs. Mugabe to exhume her late husband’s body and rebury it at a gravesite where his mother, Bona, was laid to rest.
The Chief has presided over a lawsuit against Mugabe’s wife, Grace in which she has been charged 5 cows for burying Mugabe in the wrong place.
The development is a continuation of battles between Mnangagwa and the Mugabe family for the late coup-victim’s remains in Sept 2019, an impasse that last over 3 weeks as Mnangagwa demanded that he has to be buried at the national shrine, something the deceased warned against saying Mnangagwa will use his bones for Satanic rituals.
In a letter dated April 29, 2021, and signed by the traditional leader, Chief Zvimba ordered Mrs. Mugabe to attend the village court on Thursday at Gonzo Guzha Hall in Murombedzi Growth Point.
The letter read in part, “You are facing charges of burying the late Robert Gabriel Mugabe at his homestead. This is unheard of in Chief Zvimba’s area. At the same, time you are accused of abandoning Robert Gabriel Mugabe’s property which is scattered nationwide.
“All properties of the late Robert Gabriel Mugabe are supposed to be kept at his homestead and handled in line with our traditions. I want you to rebury the late president in accordance with our traditions and in Zvimba at a place designated by the family and his late mother. These charges you are facing attract a fine of five cattle and a goat.”
In the letter, Chief Zvimba had noted that Mrs. Mugabe was allowed to bring witnesses. “We will proceed with the case and make an appropriate ruling if you don’t attend the village court without seeking permission.”
Mrs. Mugabe was asked to fix a date with appropriate authorities if she won’t attend the village court.

The former first lady’s nephew, Leo Mugabe, was unreachable for comment on his mobile phone. Leo Mugabe was quoted by an online publication recently as saying he was not aware of any moves by Chief Zvimba to summon Mrs. Mugabe to the village court to face charges of breaking traditional rules and regulations of burying people in his area.

“However, the resolution was adopted after 115 countries including neighbouring South Africa, and Botswana voted favour while 15 including Zimbabwe, voted against.”
Zimbabweans should not be surprised at all. These Zanu PF thugs fought the white colonial rule not to end oppression but to be the new oppressors.
Robert Mugabe and his fellow black nationalists presented themselves as the champions fighting for freedom, justice and liberty. The masses were promised one-man one-vote. This was just cheap propaganda and a clever rallying call to mobilise the masses behind the fight for independence.
During the Lancaster House talks to chart out the roadmap for independent Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe and his Zanu PF nationalists made it clear they wanted a one-party state and not a multi-party democratic Zimbabwe. The British arm-twisted them to accept a multi-party democratic constitution.
By the time the elections were announced, Mugabe and company had already hatched a plan to ensure Zanu PF will win the elections. Zanu PF’s campaign mantra was that if the party did not win the elections then the bush war will continue. The long cherished one-man one-vote clarion promise to the masses was ditch without so much as by your leave.
The people voted to end the war. They knew better than argue looking up the business end of an AK47 rifle.
Mugabe and company went on to consolidated Zanu PF’s strangle hold on power by launching the 1983 to 1987 Gukurahundi massacre that forced the late Dr Joshua Nkomo and his PF Zapu to join Zanu PF. Mugabe got his long cherish wish a de facto one-party, Zanu PF, dictatorship.
As the country’s new oppressors Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies have never seen anything wrong them riding roughshod over the regime’s critics and opponents. Zanu PF leaders believe they have the divine right to rule Zimbabwe and therefore anything they do, rigging elections and even committing mass murder, to secure the party’s iron grip on power is divinely sanctioned and authorised.
Indeed, it would have been hypocritical the regime had not voted against the UN resolution protecting vulnerable populations against genocide, etc. because Zanu PF has committed similar crimes itself in the past and will do so again in the future as its grip on absolute power is totally dependent on such underhand brutality!

Zimbabweans should not panic over the new India Covid-19 variant which has been detected in the country as long as they adhere to recommended World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines implemented by the Government to prevent the spread of the deadly pandemic.
These include the thorough washing of hands with soap and running water, correct wearing of masks and practicing social distancing, which the Government imposed last year when the first case of Covid-19 was recorded.
According to WHO, a variant can be labelled as of concern if it has been shown to be more contagious and more deadly.
Experts have said the prevention and transmission of the Indian variant is still similar to other Covid-19 strains hence the need for people to continue adhering to advice to avoid getting the deadly Indian variant.
On Tuesday, the Government announced that the Covid-19 variant, which India is grappling with, has reached Zimbabwe and travellers from that country will now be mandatorily quarantined upon arrival.
The Vice-President, who is also the Health and Child Care Minister, Dr Constantino Chiwenga said those entering Zimbabwe would be further tested even if they present Covid-19 travelling certificates.
He urged members of the public to stick to Covid-19 prevention measures which include social distancing at all times, proper wearing of face masks, regular washing of hands and avoiding unnecessary travelling.
Vice-President Chiwenga urged citizens to also take advantage of the Covid-19 vaccination exercise being rolled out by Government.
WHO has said it is reclassifying the highly contagious triple-mutant Covid-19 variant spreading in India as a variant of concern, indicating that it’s become a global health threat.
As at 19 May 2021, Zimbabwe had 38 612 confirmed cases, including 36 416 recoveries and 1 583 deaths.
On Wednesday, a total of 605 556 people had received their first dose of the Covid-19 vaccine while 239 128 had received their 2nd dose.
Bulawayo director of health services Dr Edwin Sibanda yesterday said there was no need for panic as long as people adhered to what they have been previously taught.
He said adherence to prevention measures is what will save communities from contracting the deadly variant.
“We are not panicking because the means of transmission and prevention are still the same hence there is need for us to continue adhering to what we have been advised to be safe. The variant may not be the same but prevention methods are still the same just like the other variants that we have experienced in the past,” said Dr Sibanda.
“As a city we will continue warning residents against defying WHO guidelines and we will sanitise our public spaces when necessary, with the understanding that we are only safe if we wear masks, wash hands and sanitise.”
Renowned health expert Professor Solwayo Ngwenya said the presence of the Indian variant is a game changer for Zimbabweans who for the longest time have defied Government recommendations.
He said even those who have been vaccinated are equally at risk hence the need to practice social distancing, wear masks and wash hands.
“We are really facing a critical moment as a country as the variant has finally made its way into Zimbabwe.
“It is a double mutated variant of the original variant found in China in 2019 and unfortunately this one is more deadly and infectious,” said Prof Ngwenya.
“Now it is dangerous because it has been allowed to change its structure and its highly transmissible which means we all have to unite as a country and ensure it does not spread.”
Prof Ngwenya said Zimbabweans must change their ways now to escape scenes of death and pandemonium which are all over India now.
He also called on the Government to consider enforcing strict measures on super spreaders like funerals, schools, parties and churches.
“We should never allow ourselves to get there as we will be overwhelmed once this variant strikes in our communities. We have to change how we have been treating Covid-19. It’s real and can be deadly if we continue being complacent,” he said.
Prof Ngwenya bemoaned the fact that unlike in the past months people were no longer wearing masks.
By A Correspondent- Suspended City of Harare director of works Zvenyika Chawatama, who is facing fraud and abuse of office charges in court, has filed a complaint with ZRP Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga against the investigating officer Gilbert Manyore alleging perjury and fraud, legal papers seen by the Zimbabwe Independent show.
Chawatama, who earlier this year was locked in a turf war with suspended Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango, was dragged to court on April 6. He was denied bail on initial appearance.
According to the complaint furnished to the police boss on May 6, 2021 prepared by Zinyengere Rupapa Legal Practitioners, Chawatama contends that Manyore leveraged on two “fraudulent” witness statements to mislead the court, resulting in him being denied bail.
Chawatama highlights that the witness statements obtained from acting-Harare mayor Stewart Mutizwa and acting-Town Clerk Bossman Marufu were not authentic.
At the heart of Chawatama’s complaints, his legal representatives claim that Manyore, “admitted that he authored those statements and the witnesses never authored or signed them.”
The court document reads: “Our client (Chawatama) is employed by the Harare City Council as the director of works. On April 6, Gilbert Manyore completed a request for remand in the said case (ACC 57/2021) and arraigned our client before the Harare Magistrates Court. He was opposed to his bail…
“Our client wishes to note a formal complaint against Manyore on the following basis. The two statements supposedly by the complainants/witnesses were fraudulent. They are purportedly signed by the witness when in fact and at law they are not signed by the two witnesses.”
Chawatama’s legal representatives further submit to Matanga that Manyore perjured “himself in court when he testified that he had already recorded two witness statements when he fully knew that it was incorrect”.
The range of perjury allegations, as submitted by Chawatama to Matanga also state that Manyore twisted evidence in court so that the HCC director of works could be denied bail.
“He (Manyore) went further to perjure himself in court when he testified that he had already recorded two witness statements when he fully knew that it was incorrect. This he did notwithstanding he was Council boss fights back testifying under oath,” the complaint document seen by this publication this week reads.
“In so doing, he swayed the court into denying our client bail and he was incarcerated at Harare Prison from April 8 to April 23 when he was released after obtaining bail at the High Court.”
Pursuant to that, Zvenyika Rupapa Legal Practitioners, acting on behalf of Chawatama, advised him to lodge a formal criminal report against Manyore.
Wrote Zvenyika Rupapa Legal Practitioners: “We have since advised our client to make a formal criminal report against the errant member and the same was made at Harare Central Police on May 3, 2021.
“In all circumstances, the accused member has shown great resentment to our client, conducted himself in a partisan and unprofessional manner with spite and partiality, successfully caused our client’s unlawful detention premised on his falsehoods…”
Chawatama also highlights that Manyore had acted unprofessionally resulting in “his suffering.”
“We believe his (Manyore) uncouth and deceitful conduct does not resemble the values for which the force stands for.
“He had no lawful right to act in the corrupt and unprofessional manner he did,” the legal documents seen by the Independent read.
As a result, Chawatama’s lawyers implored Matanga to investigate Manyore.
“It is our client’s wish to have GM (Gilbert Manyore) investigated as he has violated our client’s right through his deceit.”
Accompanying the complaint letter, Chawatama’s lawyers also furnished Matanga with the request for remand document signed by Mutizwa.
The lawyers also attached the witness statements which they claim were falsified by Manyore.
The opposition MDC Alliance’s Bulawayo province has dismissed claims that its members had defected en masse to Zanu-PF, accusing President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s party of concocting statistics as part of its 2023 poll rigging strategy.
MDC Alliance Bulawayo spokesperson Swithern Chirowodza yesterday said: “We believe that the claims of wholesale defection by MDC Alliance members to Zanu-PF are part of the preparations to rig the 2023 elections and to then use such fallacious stories as plausible rationale for rigging.
“So yes, Zanu-PF is perfectly entitled to have its own fantasies and to believe its own lies. There are just no MDC Alliance defections to Zanu-PF.”
On Sunday, Zanu-PF Bulawayo province claimed that over 50 former MDC Alliance members, mostly youth had defected to the ruling party. The new recruits were paraded during a meeting held at the party’s Davies Hall provincial offices.
The meeting was attended by, among others, the Zanu-PF Bulawayo interim provincial chairperson Obert Msindo, youth league secretary for lands, agriculture and resettlement Cecilia Verenga and youth league chairperson Freedom Murechu.
Zanu-PF interim provincial deputy chairperson Mnothisi Nsingo yesterday said the defections were a confirmation that the ruling party’s recruitment drive was paying dividends.
“What that means is that people have realised that they have been following lies all along,” Nsingo said in an interview with Southern Eye.
“It is a sign that people are appreciating all that is being done under the leadership of our party, and obviously it shows that the party is growing.
“We are restructuring the party. We are busy on the ground creating new cells where we are saying anyone who is free can come and join Zanu-PF, without any conditions.”
In Lupane, the Zanu-PF district coordinating committee yesterday said it had also welcomed 22 new members who defected from the opposition, among them Kusile Rural District Council chief executive Mhlaseli Mpofu and Njabulo Sibanda who contested in the 2018 general elections in Lupane East on a National Patriotic Front ticket.
President Emmerson Mnangagwa has been sucked into the exhumation of the late former president Robert Mugabe’s remains saga after it emerged he chaired a high-level meeting of the deceased strongman’s clansmen.
It is the same meeting at which the decision to summon Mugabe’s widow, Grace, to a trial at Chief Zvimba’s traditional court was made, according to minutes seen by the Zimbabwe Independent this week.
The meeting, held at the State House on September 11, 2020 was attended by several senior government and Zanu-PF officials, as well as representatives of the Zvimba clan. This was just over a year after Mugabe’s death in Singapore at the age of 95.
There was a vicious tug-of-war between Mugabe’s immediate family and the government over the burial of his body, with the family insisting they were bound to respect his wish to be buried besides his mother at their rural homestead in Zvimba while government wanted to bury him at the National Heroes Acre in Harare.
As a result of this, the body spent almost a month at his “Blue Roof” mansion in Borrowdale before the family prevailed.
According to the minutes, those who attended the State House meeting last year include Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, Defence and War Veterans minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, Information and Publicity minister Monica Mutsvangwa, Local Government and Public Works ministers July Moyo, Zanu-PF secretary for administration Obert Mpofu, Chief Zvimba, Chief Beperere, Chief Chidziva, Headman Chisora, Phillip Chiyangwa, Madzima Bhajabha, Nyikadzino Kamuruko, Edward Tome and one Nelson Mawomo who was taking minutes.
During the gathering, soon after introductions, Zvimba clan spokesman Edward Tome, declared that the purpose of the meeting was to discuss the manner in which Mugabe was buried, which he said is haunting the clan.
He pointed out that the late Mugabe was appointed Chief Zvimba soon after his return from Ghana, but requested that someone represent him as he was involved in politics.
Tome went on to say the family had, upon Mugabe’s death, requested for a mausoleum to be created at the national shrine, but after a misunderstanding with the former first lady Grace Mugabe both members of the Zvimba clan and his uncles from Gutu pulled out. Grace and foreign dignitaries went ahead with the burial.
Tome further told the meeting that the former president should be buried like a chief not like an ordinary person.
He gave the example of the popular Nyanga traditional leader, Chief Rekai Tangwena whose grave is at the National Heroes Acre but his remains were interred in his rural home in line with their culture.
Bhajabha then interjected and told the meeting that the Zvimba clan was requesting government assistance to rebury Mugabe.
He went on to say some of the things needed for the reburial include a casket, national flag, transport before they bury the chief and report back to the president.
Bhajabha added that a mausoleum could be erected after the burial and a tombstone in the image of the former leader with a clenched fist facing to the east erected. Before a ceremony could be conducted the clan requested access to the national shrine to carry out rituals.
The whole process was supposed to be completed before the sacred month (Mbudzi) which starts on October 15 and ends on December 15 according to Shona culture.
The clan also requested a national commemoration in the form of a gala.
According to the minutes, Mnangagwa agreed to the Zvimba clan’s requests but had questions over how the family intended to exhume and rebury the former president without attracting public attention.
“His Excellency the President indicated that as a government they were happy with the gesture by the clan which seeks to strengthen the relationships. The president agreed with the clan that indeed the former leader was the son of the country. He pointed out that they accepted the wish of the Zvimba people as they seek to strengthen the path which was soiled at the very end. He indicated that the future generations should be able to understand the correct history of our founding father,” the minutes read.
Chief Chidziva thanked Mnangagwa for accepting their request.
Chief Zvimba said the clan would put into consideration the request by the government for more time to attend to the issue.
The chiefs also took the opportunity during the meeting to ask Mnangagwa for favours in settling their personal grievances.
Chief Zvimba told Mnangagwa that he was grounded because his farming equipment was attached by the High Court.
He went on to accuse the district and provincial lands officers of being corrupt, singling out the District Development Coordinator (DDC) for Zvimba district.
The President tasked minister Moyo to engage his counterpart to carry out an assessment on the farm. Chief Zvimba was then promised a tractor and a planter.
Chief Beperere also bemoaned rampant corruption at the Zvimba district lands committee. He went on to say his farm was derelict as he was surrounded by former Local Government minister Ignatius Chombo’s associates whom he accused of vandalising his irrigation equipment.
By A Correspondent- A Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund (Zimdef ) contractor, who was alleged to be a fugitive from justice in the United States, was never convicted of any crime in that country, it has emerged.
Zimdef was last week accused of giving Tawanda Wallen Mangere of Tano Digital Solutions a huge information technology contract without doing background checks.
Mangere’s rivals claimed that he had served a jail term in the United States for fraud or that he had fled America fearing incarceration.
The US embassy in Harare linked NewsDay to Fulton County Magistrates’ Court in Georgia, where Mangere was detained for about 90 minutes.
A case was opened against the Zimbabwean businessman on March 17, 2010 under case No 308457MC.
“There is no criminal case against Mr Mangere. He has no pending legal issues. He is not a fugitive,” said Bryant Brinson, a supervisor at the Fulton County court in emailed responses to NewsDay.
Nicole Vaughn, director for customer service at the Fulton County District Attorney’s office said: “I found no open or pending cases with Mr Mangere’s name in our office.”
According to a document received from Brinson, signed on Wednesday by Mary Conklin, a clerk at the Fulton court, Mangere was charged for deposit account fraud (felony), but the case was dismissed.
“The case was heard before a Fulton County Magistrate judge, who ordered that the charge against Wallen Mangere be dismissed on 04/14/2011,” part of the deposition of the magistrates’ case read.
An investigation by NewsDay showed that Mangere has been going in and out of the US and his last visit was on December 17, 2019 using passport No FN812449 just before the COVID-19 outbreak.
Then Registrar General Tobaiwa Mudede allegedly took a Support Unit team from Rhodesville Police Station in Harare in the late 2000s to evict a woman from a plot at Ballinettey Farm in Mazowe after stealing her irrigation equipment worth US$10 000.
Mudede is said to have roped in the police with assistance from Inspector Mwenje, who was then officer-in-charge at Rhodesville and used them to evict Jacquiline Mukanganyama from Plot 10, Ballinettey Farm in Mazowe West. At that time, Mudede allegedly bragged that he was untouchable since he was the Registrar General.
Yesterday at Harare Magistrates Court Mudede (70) appeared charged with theft. He was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Mr Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him to June 23 on free bail.
Mr Lancelot Mutsokoti, appearing for the State, said Mudede was the holder of Plot 1 at Ballinettey Farm.
In 2002 Ms Mukanganyama was offered Plot 10 measuring 70 hectares and started farming there and was also given the responsibility of the taking care of the remaining State land and other properties.
In 2007, Mudede was offered subdivisions 1,2,3,4,13 and the remainder of Ballinettey, a total of 712.64ha after a heated boundary dispute between him, Ms Mukanganyama and other neighbours. Mudede, according to the State, had his offer letter registered by the Ministry of Lands and Agriculture in 2009.
Further allegations are that Mudede then forcefully went to occupy the farm house which was at the boundary of Ms Munkanganyama’s farm and the remaining State Land, which was under her caretakership.
The court heard that Mudede evicted Mukanganyama and stole irrigation equipment which included aluminium pipes, a 20-horse power Mono pump, submersible pump and plates worth US$10 000.

The police want a greater role and unhindered access at airports to help prevent criminals smuggling out gold and other minerals in their luggage as many now enforcing smuggling rules are not trained or experienced in general law enforcement.
Commissioner General Godwin Matanga yesterday told a joint sitting of the parliamentary portfolio committees on Mines and Mining Development and of Home Affairs, Defence and Security Services that there was need for close collaboration with all law enforcement agencies at ports of entry such as Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport where there has been smuggling of gold.
The police at present played a peripheral role at international airports as other arms of Government such as the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe were deployed at every spot while the police had a limited number of places to monitor.
The committees wanted to know what the police were doing to curb mineral smuggling in the wake of incidents of people found with minerals such as gold at ports of entry such as RGM International Airport.
It is unfortunate that at our airport, CAAZ are the people who provide security. There are some parts of the airport where ZRP officers are not allowed, said Comm Gen Matanga.
While the International Air Transport Association forbids the police to access certain places at airports, most countries were using police far more readily than Zimbabwe at airports, he had noticed while travelling.
“IATA forbids police from patrolling certain areas but surprisingly it is only applying to Zimbabwe. I have travelled in many countries and I have seen the police patrolling in all areas. It is an observation I have made,” said Comm Gen Matanga.
Secretary for Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Mr Aaron Nhepera weighed in saying he was liaising with his counterpart in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development on how there can be close collaboration between police and CAAZ officials.
“The Comm Gen has written to me on the need to deploy police officers close to areas where activities take place. Currently police officers are deployed far away from where activities take place,” said Mr Nhepera.
Commenting on the recent incident where Tashinga Masinire evaded detection at RGM International Airport only to be arrested allegedly with 14kg of gold at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg, Comm Gen said it appeared that an off-duty Central Intelligence Officer carried the contraband to the departure area using the arrival section.
The two then met in a smoking room where the CIO operative handed over the gold to the courier.
The Comm Gen said there were highly sophisticated cartels involved in smuggling of minerals and law enforcement agencies needed to be well resourced to catch up with them.

By A Correspondent- Journalists have raised concern over Premier Soccer League, has announced that journalists will be required to produce Covid-19 test certificates done within 48 hours to cover weekend soccer matches.
Journalists said they were not opposed to getting tested for COVID-19 and obtain the required certificate, but were concerned about the short notice given by PSL.
PSL said the development is in line with the Covid-19 preventative measures, protocols and directives issued by the PSL, WHO and local health authorities.

By A Correspondent- A Murriel Mine woman who ganged up with her younger sister to beat up her husband’s girlfriend has appeared in court charged with assault.
Priscilla Femera, 30, and her younger sister Anna Phiri appeared before Chinhoyi provincial magistrate Tapiwa Banda.
The complainant, in this case, is Precious Munyaradzi, 39.
The two were lucky to escape imprisonment after they were found guilty and fined $10 000 each or risk spending 30 days in jail if they fail to pay the fine.
Prosecuting, Review Nikisi told the court that on March 31 at around 5pm, Femera gathered information to the effect that her husband was having an affair with Munyaradzi.
She teamed up with Phiri and went to confront Munyaradzi at her place of residence.
Upon arrival, Femera called Munyaradzi who was just entering the bedroom from the compound, where she had gone to collect a debt.
As Munyaradzi was coming out of her bedroom, Femera without saying anything, manhandled Munyaradzi and dragged her to the flower bed and was joined by Phiri in assaulting her.
They were refrained from further inflicting harm on Munyaradzi by Godfrey Chapanda.
During the assault, Munyaradzi lost her A16 Itel cellphone and US$65 which was on the back cover of the cellphone.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Femera and Phiri.
By A Correspondent- A self-proclaimed prophet from Johanne Masowe Apostolic Sect has been sentenced to seven years imprisonment for stealing a vehicle and valuables worth $31 123 and US$93 from a client under the pretext of healing him.
Simbarashe Muvengwa (30) of no fixed aboard pleaded not guilty to a charge of theft when he appeared before Gwanda regional magistrate, Mrs Sibonginkosi Mkandla but was convicted due to overwhelming evidence.
He was sentenced to seven years imprisonment of which two years were suspended on condition that he does not commit a similar offence within the next five years.
In passing her sentence Mrs Mkandla said she had shown leniency towards Muvengwa seeing that he had not benefited from the act of theft as the vehicle was recovered.
She said that however did not change the fact that Muvengwa had committed a serious offence that required a deterrent sentence.
In his defense Muvengwa denied committing the offence saying that the complainant had agreed to lend him the vehicle for a week.
“I know the complainant as my client. We had an agreement that he would lend me his vehicle for a week and we also agreed that I would take it with me to Harare. I was surprised when I was apprehended by the police for stealing the vehicle before the one week, we had agreed on had elapsed,” he said.
In his statement in court, Detective Constable Progress Mhlanga who is stationed at Gwanda CID said they arrested Muvengwa in Harare following a tip-off from members of the public. He said Muvengwa was using the vehicle as a pirate taxi.
Prosecuting, Mr Johannes Tlou said Muvengwa robbed Mr George Mangwana (37) who is a miner based in Esigodini and also his church mate.
He said Muvengwa advised Mr Mangwana that for him to be cleansed in the pool he had to leave his car keys behind as he was not supposed to carry any metal object into the pool.
“On 5 January last year, Mr Mangwana received a phone call from Muvengwa who is a self-proclaimed prophet from the Johanne Masowe Apostolic Sect informing him that he had received a prophetic revelation for him and his colleague Mr Foster Ndudzo.
“Mr Mangwana and Mr Ndudzo agreed to meet with Muvengwa at their shrine near Habane Business Centre in Esigodini on the following morning. Mr Mangwana drove in his Toyota Hiace vehicle, collected Muvengwa from where he was temporarily staying and they proceeded to the shrine where they met with Mr Ndudzo,” he said.
Mr Tlou said Muvengwa told the two men that he had to conduct a ritual at a pool to cleanse them. He warned them against carrying metal-coated objects when entering the pool.
He said Muvengwa instructed the two men to follow a nearby stream until they reached a pool and enter it.
“Mr Mangwana left his car keys with Muvengwa according to his warning against carrying metal objects. Upon their return the two men found Muvengwa gone with the vehicle.
In the vehicle, Mr Mangwana had left clothing, cell phones and other valuables worth $31 123 and US$93.
“The matter was reported to the police who conducted investigations leading to the arrest of the accused person.
The total value of the stolen property including the vehicle is $1 057 698 and property worth $1 026 375 was recovered

A BULAWAYO man from Entumbane suburb is battling for his life in hospital after a woman stabbed him in the stomach leaving his intestines hanging out for reportedly urinating on her flower bed.
Speaking to B-Metro, Thuthukani Moyo (32) said while he was in Entumbane suburb heading home he felt hard pressed and had to answer nature’s call on Julia Ndlovu’s flowers.
“I felt hard pressed and had to urinate on Julia’s flowers. Sadly she saw me and accused me of urinating on her flowers. I apologised,” he said.
Moyo said he then continued with his journey.
“Julia followed me and caught up with me. She shouted obscenities at me and in the midst of that she fumbled into the pocket of her jacket and took out an Okapi knife. She stabbed me on the left side of the chest, once on the right side of the shoulder and once on the stomach. I tumbled to the ground and fell unconscious,” he said.
A source close to investigations said soon after the act, the blood stained Julia took to her heels, leaving the unconscious Moyo lying on the ground.
After about one hour an unknown man stumbled on him and made a report at Entumbane Police Station.
Police from Entumbane Police Station dashed to the scene and swiftly summoned an ambulance which speedily came and ferried Moyo to Mpilo Central Hospital.

The Zimbabwean government on Monday cancelled the diplomatic passport of an Israeli Mr Moshe Itzhak Osdaicher.

The govt without giving reasons for the termination, announced the termination of the appointment of Moshe Itzhak Osdaicher as the country’s honorary consul in Northern Israel.
The termination is with effect from February 2021, spokesperson for Zimbabwe’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs Constance Chemwayi said in a statement.
“This means that Mr. Osdaicher does not hold any functions, privileges, and immunities attached to this post as expressed in the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, 1963 and he no longer represents the Government of Zimbabwe in any capacity,” Chemwayi said.
Zimbabwe’s foreign ministry thanked the Israeli national for his efforts during his tenure as honorary consul and expressed its desire to maintain and strengthen relations between Zimbabwe and Israel.

A Bulawayo man from Emganwini suburb became a butt of jokes after his estranged wife punched him all over the body while accusing him of cheating on her with a woman from the same suburb.
Nelva Dube (27) and her husband Ronald Mativenga (37) have been staying apart because Dube reportedly stumbled on WhatsApp messages that Mativenga allegedly exchanged with his girlfriend.
According to a source who is close to the pair, the now estranged couple tried everything possible to mend their relationship, but their efforts were abortive.
Seeing that things were not working between them, Nelva decided to return to stay with her parents and has been staying there for a couple of months, said a source close to the couple.
Last week on Thursday Nelva visited her husband and the two picked an argument over Mativenga’s alleged fling.
Emotions got the better of her, causing Nelva to punch her husband, said the source who witnessed the dramatic incident.
The marauding Nelva rained blows on her husband and he wailed for help while pinned to the ground, prompting neighbours to throng their matrimonial home.
Some of the neighbours poked fun at him after seeing jabs landing fast on him, said a source. One of the men who was part of the crowd came to his rescue when he grabbed the furious lady.
Mativenga, who was bleeding from the mouth, reported the matter at a police station leading to the arrest of Nelva.
Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that we arrested a lady who beat her husband over infidelity issues.”

Getting over the pain of a bad relationship is never easy. For one woman Judy Takanai from Barbourfields suburb in Bulawayo refused to let go of resentment when she held a mock funeral procession for her ex-lover Vushe Marime, a nurse at Mpilo Central Hospital after his matrimonial property was attached by the Messenger of Court.
Marime’s property comprising a four-plate Defy stove, five-piece kitchen suite, Samsung bar fridge, KIC fridge, one brown coffee table and 5kg gas cylinder stove was attached over legal costs incurred by Judy’s husband Claudio Takanai when he sued him for bedding his wife.
In 2019, Claudio slapped Marime with a US$10 000 adultery lawsuit as punishment for bedding his wife (Judy), and after the protracted legal battle, Claudio later sued him (Marime) for the huge costs he incurred as a result of their bruising fight.
Marime, however, failed to pay the costs reportedly amounting to $28 000 leading to his property being attached by the Messenger of Court and it is now set to go under the hammer.
As a way of celebrating her ex-lover’s downfall, Judy bought a coffin and inscribed it with his name and paraded it around Mzilikazi suburb claiming it was the end of the road for him.
The coffin was inscribed with the following words: “Rest in Hell Vushe Marime, totally knocked out.”
Speaking to B-Metro Judy who was unapologetic about her actions said it was a way of celebrating her husband’s victory after he had forgiven her for cheating on him with Marime.
“Marime offended my husband when he wanted to withdraw the lawsuit when he said it was a ploy to extort money from him. When we were still dating, he ordered me to kill my husband so that he could remain the only man in my life.
“He volunteered to organise some injections for me which I could use to kill my unsuspecting husband and that is when I dumped him. We, however, incurred legal costs which he was made to pay and he failed leading to his property being attached by the Messenger of Court. He is supposed to pay about $28 300 excluding storage costs,” said Judy.
What incensed Claudio to take legal action was that when he approached Marime requesting him to terminate the relationship in November 2018 he refused and told him he was not man enough. He also boasted about the size of his manhood.

Through his lawyer, Claudio sued Marime and part of the suit reads: “Sometime in November 2018, my client found out about the illicit affair from a co-worker who revealed that on several occasions Marime had sexual intercourse with his wife at various lodges in Bulawayo.
“The adulterous relationship between the two has destroyed a happy marriage as Mrs Takanai has become vindictive towards my client and has stopped performing her conjugal duties and supporting her husband emotionally.
“Furthermore, he has been humiliated by Marime who boasts about the size of his sexual reproductive organ. The effects of the adulterous relationship are far reaching as their children are also affected due to the misunderstandings between the couple.
As a result of the adultery, my client has suffered damages namely contumelia inflicted upon him in the sum of US$5 000 and the loss of consortium in the sum of US$5 000.”
In his response Marime, through his lawyer, stated that he had never been in an adulterous relationship with Claudio’s wife.
“All was a fabrication to extort money from him since both plaintiff and his wife were not gainfully employed. Further to that defendant is liable to any confession by the plaintiff’s wife as all this was a fabrication to extort money from him,” reads part of Marime’s opposing affidavit.
Marime who lost the case and was ordered to pay the damages, had his property attached by the Messenger of Court after he failed to pay the legal costs of the successful party (Claudio).
In a bid to stop the disposal of the property, Marime’s wife Calister Hapanyengwi filed an inter-pleader application claiming she was the owner of the attached property and purchased it sometime in 2016 and had since disposed of the receipts.
She argued that she was never a party to any proceedings between Marime and Claudio. Paradoxically, her sister Sharon also filed an inter-pleader application stating that the property belonged to her and she had given it to Calister and Marime when they got married to just use it and not to dispose it.
“Ever since I gave the property for use it was agreed that they will never dispose of the same but instead they will have the right to buy the same from me if ever they have the funds.
“My main contention revolves around the fact that my property cannot be used to settle a judgment debt which I’m not part of or connected to in any manner,” she stated.
In his ruling the presiding magistrate Tinashe Tashaya found no merits in the inter-pleader proceedings by Calister and Sharon.
“I say so because there are two affidavits before the court, one by Calister Hapanyengwi who is the judgment debtor’s wife and the other by Sharon Hapanyengwi who is the applicant’s sister.
“They are both claiming the same property in their affidavits. Applicant in casu claims she bought the property personally and has since disposed of the receipts. On the other hand, the affidavit by Sharon reveals that the property belongs to her and she gave to Calister and Marime to use with an option to buy the same if they have the funds,” stated Tashaya.
He adds: “In light of the two conflicting affidavits, one then wonders who between the two is really the owner of the property. The inference to be drawn is that these two have colluded in order to deprive respondent of his judgment debt. It is on these premises that the application for stay of execution is dismissed.” – B Metro
A BULAWAYO man from Entumbane suburb is battling for his life in hospital after a woman stabbed him in the stomach leaving his intestines hanging out for reportedly urinating on her flower bed.
Speaking to B-Metro, Thuthukani Moyo (32) said while he was in Entumbane suburb heading home he felt hard pressed and had to answer nature’s call on Julia Ndlovu’s flowers.
“I felt hard pressed and had to urinate on Julia’s flowers. Sadly she saw me and accused me of urinating on her flowers. I apologised,” he said.
Moyo said he then continued with his journey.
“Julia followed me and caught up with me. She shouted obscenities at me and in the midst of that she fumbled into the pocket of her jacket and took out an Okapi knife. She stabbed me on the left side of the chest, once on the right side of the shoulder and once on the stomach. I tumbled to the ground and fell unconscious,” he said.
A source close to investigations said soon after the act, the blood stained Julia took to her heels, leaving the unconscious Moyo lying on the ground.
After about one hour an unknown man stumbled on him and made a report at Entumbane Police Station.
Police from Entumbane Police Station dashed to the scene and swiftly summoned an ambulance which speedily came and ferried Moyo to Mpilo Central Hospital.
The School Development Committee (SDC) at Guni Primary School under Chief Makore in Gutu last week locked the school head Violet Mawere and her deputy Lovegod Munago out of their offices, accusing the duo of corruption.
The offices were locked last week on Tuesday at the end of an SDC meeting, with parents accusing the two of abusing school funds.
The Acting Provincial Education Director, Shylatte Mhike said she did not have a report on the matter when Masvingo Mirror called her.
Munago allegedly withdrew $15 000 from the school account in Masvingo for the procurement of cement and Grade 7 textbooks but only handed over $4 000, triggering the action by the parents.
Maria Mubayiwa, the SDC vice-chairperson confirmed the development. She said the decision was taken after meetings with Gutu Rural District Council which runs the school and the District Schools Inspector, Ronald Muganhu. Said Mubaiwa:
We have locked the offices and taken away the keys and we have reported the matter to relevant authorities. We are tired of the abuse of resources at the school so these offices will not open until the Ministry takes its two teachers.
We met officials at Gutu RDC and the District Schools Inspector and we submitted letters listing our grievances to them.
… We were shocked to hear from Gutu RDC that the school is not paying its dues to the local authority.
Meanwhile, Muganhu said he knew nothing about the issue although he held a meeting with the parents.

THE ruling Zanu PF party yesterday claimed that it had delivered on all its 2018 electoral promises, among them a smooth public transport system and economic stability. Addressing a Press conference in Harare, Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said President Emmerson Mnangagwa has led the revival of Zupco, created jobs and stabilised the local currency and, therefore, was headed for a crushing victory in 2023.
“We agreed with the people through the manifesto that we will develop a new public transport system and indeed we revived Zupco and the results are there for all to see, we said we are going to deal with corruption ruthlessly and the fight goes on,” Khaya Moyo said.
Government has ordered private transport operators to join the Zupco franchise while those who resisted joining remain parked.
The move has introduced crippling transport shortages, which have been condemned by the commuting public.
Khaya Moyo said Zanu PF had also improved the healthcare system and created jobs. His remarks came at a time doctors and nurses are leaving their jobs for greener pastures.
“We said we are going to reform towards civil political engagements and shun hostility in preference to dialogue and it is going on under the Political Actors Dialogue, we said we are going to create jobs and indeed true to that, several jobs have been created.
“We promised to reengage countries that we crossed paths with and that is a continuous process. We promised to priorities healthcare of our citizens and indeed, notwithstanding the added health disaster of COVID-19, we have managed to do the best in the region in saving lives of our people,” he said.
But MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere said the situation on the ground showed that Zanu PF had failed. “Despite the regime’s propaganda and attempt to paint a false picture of economic improvement, people’s livelihoods remain under threat with teachers, doctors and other civil servants earning slave wages,” Mahere said, adding that the country was facing food insecurity under Mnangagwa.
MDC-T spokesperson Witness Dube said: “The unfortunate thing in all this is how low a standard of success Zanu PF has set itself and the country.”
“It seems Zanu PF is living in a world of its own, we face serious transport problems everyday. I finish work at 4pm, but get home close to midnight, then they say they have changed public transport,” said Tawanda Manyere, an ordinary Zimbabwean. Newsday

Incensed by the High Court reversal of Luke Malaba’s reappointment, Ziyambi accused the presiding Judges of “working with the opposition to bring down the new dispensation.”
The MDC Alliance has described the harassment of Judges by the Zanu PF regime as unfortunate and disturbing:
The MDC Alliance welcomes the recent ruling by a panel of three Judges of the High Court on the unlawfulness of the purported extension of former Chief Justice Malaba’s tenure as Head of the Judiciary.
We believe in the ideals of constitutionalism, the rule of law, separation of powers, judicial independence and good governance.
These values are not negotiable as they serve to deepen our democracy. It was important for the High Court to uphold them.
However, we are extremely concerned that the Executive in general and the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs in particular, saw it fit to issue an intemperate and contemptuous statement against the judges who presided over this important matter, civic society and the MDC Alliance.
We call upon the Minister to retract and apologize for his unfounded allegations and for scandalizing the court.
We further demand that he be held to account for his unethical and dangerous remarks that threaten the independence of the judiciary and the constitutional right to protection of the law.
We believe that the undue haste with which the Constitutional Amendment Bills were handled is an indication that they were intended to achieve a sinister objective that does not enhance our democracy.
Rather, the amendments undo the will of the people as expressed in a nationwide referendum and the painstaking work that led to the crafting of our Constitution.
Respect for the will of the people demands that any process of amendment must be consultative and inclusive as opposed to the unilateralism that has been exhibited by the Minister of Justice and the Executive.
It is our respectful view that the Constitutional Amendments are fraught with illegalities, which illegalities were pointed out by our MPs in Parliament and by a number of citizens during the public hearing process. The people’s right to be heard must be respected.
We reiterate that it is imperative for laws to be aligned to the Constitution as opposed to the unlawful attempts to change the supreme law, notwithstanding the overwhelming opposition to this process.
The Constitution is the Supreme Law of the land that binds everyone and in line with our People’s Agenda, we re-affirm the citizens’ collective obligation to defend it.
