But gas accompanied by other red flags — such as weight loss, anorexia, excessive diarrhea, vomiting, fever, prolonged bloating, and severe stomach pain — can be a sign of a digestive disorder or other gastrointestinal condition that needs attention. Problems include:

Four individuals accused the organization of harbouring and nurturing anti- government elements.
They also threatened to quash the organization’s activities.

Today (Tuesday) at 12:47 Heal Zimbabwe was besieged by four unidentified people (2 women and 2 men) who threatened unspecified action and concerted unrelenting brutal action against the organisation for what they termed unpatriotic opposition to the government of Zimbabwe.
The attackers were aggressive and threatened to shut down the offices.
The attack came after Taurai Kundishaya visited Heal Zimbabwe Offices the previous day (22-03-21), took pictures and urged Zimbabweans to converge and protests at the organisation’s gates.
On his micro-blog Kundishaya alleged that Heal Zimbabwe was a “home of modern-day slavery, sabotage training, anti-gvt protests planning centre and other illegal activities.”
Heal Zimbabwe sees this as an orchestrated attack meant to frustrate the organisation’s peacebuilding and conflict transformation work. Traditionally, attacks on Civil Society Organisations begin with this kind of allegations leading to raids and arbitrary arrests and prosecutions. This desperate attempt to close down the civic space by disrupting the work of goodwill organisations such ours should end.

Mdc Alliance Namibia undertook a resounding launch of the Citizens Convergence for Change as part of the #Agenda2021 throughout its various branches in Namibia.
Mdc Alliance Namibia Rundu Branch Executive met and deliberated on the dire need to recruit and mobilise citizens in the diaspora especially in Namibia so that we are able to demand our fundamental right to vote in the diaspora.
As a branch, we resolved to implement the Party’s recently launched agenda 2021 which included #peoples’agenda, #globalagenda, #reformagenda and #citizensconvergenceforchange. During the meeting, Rundu Branch Treasurer General Obert Chesango urged the leadership of the party to give a clear direction on how the smart agenda should be implemented.
He expressed his worries ahead of 2023 general elections if the party delays to activate the masses into action particularly for comprehensive electoral and political reforms.
Furthermore, following a robust engagement, Rundu Branch Executive pledged to work diligently to implement the smart agenda of the party by mobilising for a serious campaign for the diaspora vote that will see the inclusion of an estimated population of 3 to 4 million Zimbabwean nationals residing outside the country , specifically in Namibia, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia, Zambia, Botswana, Germany only to mention but a few. As part of the party’s global agenda to include us in the national discourse by participating in the general elections in Zimbabwe, Rundu Branch exhibited its readiness to embrace the citizens converge for complete change.
Mdc Alliance Namibia is Cognisant of the fact that the diaspora now ranks as one of the chief contributors to Zimbabwe’s export earnings and 58% jump in remittances from US$635 million , means we can’t be sidelined in serious national issues that determine political and economic stability in the motherland. Statistics reflect that the diaspora contribution to the economy comes after platinum as the second highest. The organic and pragmatic branch executive led by Secretary General Simbarashe Ndoda gave a glance at the US$1 billion remittances that the country received last year from the diaspora, and resolved to push to be accorded more attention since the constituency has become an undoubted backbone of the country’s socio-economic dynamics.
Moreover, we demand that the diaspora must not be relegated to economic contributions. We say NO to this cold shoulder we are getting from our clueless and desperate government when it comes to the basic universal human rights to vote or offer political remedies to the corrupt Zanupf cronies. It is indisputable that 50% of the families (employed or unemployed) rely on remittances. It is in this complex frame that authorities need to come up with sound strategies to harness the undoubted potential of the diaspora factor to grant them the right to contribute economically, socially and politically to the nation’s growth in every aspect that affect citizens.
Moreso, Mdc Alliance Namibia Rundu Branch reminds Zanupf that diaspora vote becomes non-negotiable given how the diaspora is contributing to their beloved Motherland through remittances. We demand the fundamental electoral reforms before 2023 harmonised elections to avert another disputed poll. The vibrant branch remains resolutely behind the Citizens Convergence for Change where all progressive citizens are invited to unite to win Zimbabwe for change. It is now imperative for all poverty-stricken teachers, peasants, lawyers , doctors, nurses, learners, parents and students to converge and confront the beast in the eye. All social democrats must assemble and give a hot constitutional fight to those who eat on behalf of the hungry citizens. It should be clear to Zanupf that we are not in the diaspora by choice but we were pushed out our country by Zanupf terrorists.

Right now our Hon Joana Mamombe and Cecilia Chimbiri are staying with a snake in the cells at Chikurubi maximum prison, Takudzwa Ngadziore is now more than 3 weeks old, incarcerated despite the police testifying that he was not part of the press conference addressed by Joana Mamombe demanding the unconditional release of #PeoplePower Leader and Mdc Alliance Youth Leader, Makomborero Haruzivishe ,this is clear Satanism by Zanupf therefore citizens convergence becomes compulsory. Section 59 of the 2013 constitution allows the citizens to petition and demonstrate their discontentment without fear of being persecuted by prosecution since it has become Zanupf’s modus operandi.
TWO of the 16 illegal gold miners who pounced on Eldorado Gold Mine on the outskirts of Chinhoyi last Friday morning have been arrested.
Ten others — two believed to be armed with guns — are still underground after gaining access to the mine shaft and hoisting out all mine workers.
They are believed to be mining.
The invasion, which occurred around 1am on Friday was captured on the mine’s CCTV and comes barely a week after the mine lost almost 1,5 kg of gold to robbers.
The two gang members were arrested on Monday evening after they were hoisted to the surface. Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Margaret Chitove confirmed the arrest and said the other 10 were still underground.

The gang gained entry into the mine premise by cutting through the perimeter fence and the 12 proceeded to the shaft entrance where they hoisted themselves underground, in front of CCTV cameras.
The other four simply disappeared into the dark.
When The Herald visited the mine last Friday, at least five armed police officers were manning the mine shaft entrance which has since been locked up. “Two of the men who gained access underground were holding guns. The other four vanished into the dark,” a security guard said.
Mine director Ms Emy Zhuang who said all the 12 were recorded on CCTV, added that mining operations have since been suspended.
“We have since lost over 18 hours of mining operations due to the attack. We have over 200 workers who need to be paid and each disruption affects work which in turn affects production.
“Last month we lost seven days of production to another invasion where six armed men invaded the mine.
“Police are now in charge and are very concerned about the safety of our workers. We are hopeful that they will be able to apprehend these culprits.”
Two weeks ago armed robbers made off with 3,3kg of amalgam gold from the mine which is close to about 1,5 kg of gold.- The Herald
By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) said it has resumed electoral activities but at the same time maintaining a ban of by-elections.
In January, ZEC postponed voter registration and fieldwork citing COVID-19 lockdown regulations. In a statement, ZEC chief elections officer Utloile Silaigwana said they have resumed all operations except the holding of by-elections.
“Given the danger still posed by the pandemic and the need to uphold some health provisions of Statutory Instrument 10 of 21 which are still in force, the conduct of by-elections remains suspended,” he said.
There are over 45 parliamentary seats and 80 council seats that recently fell vacant after the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) recalled lawmakers and councillors who contested the 2018 polls on the Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance ticket.

Muchinguri-Kashiri was recently exposed by ZimEye.com in a recoded audio saying that she did not trust the Chinese made jab.
She was today vaccinated together with President Mnangagwa in Victoria Falls.

In January, the discredited ZEC postponed voter registration and fieldwork. In a statement, ZEC chief elections officer Mr Utloile Silaigwana said the resumption of these suspended activities will come into effect on April 1.“ZEC, would like to announce that following the relaxation of lockdown measures of Statutory Instrument 10 of 2021 on 1 March, the commission will lift the suspension of voter registration and some fieldwork it announced on 8 January. The resumption of these suspended activities will come into effect on 1 April,” reads part of the statement.

Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition National Chairman, Rashid Mahiya, is the Heal Zimbabwe executive director.
The group comprising men and women Wednesday afternoon visited the NGO’s offices and threatened Mahiya’s staff saying that their organisation was unpatriotic and antagonizes the government of Zimbabwe.
“The attackers were aggressive and threatened to shut down the Office,” said a Heal Zimbabwe official who witnessed the attack.
“ The attack came after Taurai Kundishaya visited Heal Zimbabwe Offices the previous day (22-03-21), took pictures and urged Zimbabwe Zimbabweans to converge and protests at the organisation’s gates. On his micro-blog Kundishaya alleged that Heal Zimbabwe was a “home of modern-day slavery, sabotage training, anti-govt protests planning centre & other illegal activities,” the official narrated.
In a statement to the media after the unwelcome visit by the suspected Zanu PF thugs, The Mahiya led Heal Zimbabwe said they would continue doing their work.

Chirau who is the acting Zanu PF youth chairman, issued the harsh directive at the weekend in Marondera when he was attending a his party’ Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) on Sunday.
“We are worried about the continued abuse of social media platforms and the majority are youths. The leadership of the party will take disciplinary action on those party elements who want to destroy the party’s future.”

The day 21 March 2021, will be remembered by the Lutheran family as a historic day, when the Church renewed its leadership in a smooth and memorable fashion. At a colorful event held in Harare, Zimbabwe, Bishops Kenneth Sibanda and Vushebwashe Mhaka were installed and consecrated respectively. This critical event was initially scheduled for the 10th of January 2021, but was postponed due to the ravaging COVID-19 pandemic. Thus, today, the event was held under strict COVID-19 protocols and most members across the globe followed the proceedings virtually while a limited number attended physically. All the surviving Retired and Serving ELCZ Bishops attended. Ecumenical partners from the region and internationally, also graced the event. The ELCZ in the region was well represented physically through the Lutheran Media Forum (LMR) and other key stakeholders. We say Congratulations to Bishops Sibanda and Mhaka! And…. thank you to our regional friend, Brother David Mang’enda of the LMF and our local media team for covering this one for the whole Church in the world to follow the proceedings.

The ELCZ was founded in 1903 by missionaries of the Church of Sweden Mission and African evangelists from Natal (South Africa). Zimbabwe (then Southern Rhodesia) was a mission field for the Lutheran Church in Natal. It began with educational work while the medical work was added in 1915, thus completing the three-fold ministry of Christ of preaching, teaching and healing. The first trained African pastor was ordained in 1937. The Lutheran Church in Zimbabwe became autonomous from the Church of Sweden Mission and the Church in Natal in 1962. Since then, the Church has grown in terms of its influence in socio, economic and political processes as well as in membership. The Church founded and currently runs Musume, Mnene, Masase and Manama Mission Schools and Hospitals. It has also ventured into humanitarian and development work through its service arms such as the Lutheran Development Services (LDS). Thus, the Church has remained relevant in the context of continued humanitarian challenges in Zimbabwe.
Prominent public officials are associated with the ELCZ including those in business, politics, academia and arts. The Church is divided into three Dioceses, that is, Western, covering the whole of Matebeleland South and North as well as Bulawayo provinces, currently being headed by Bishop M M S Dube; Eastern Diocese, headed by the new Bishop Mhaka (covering Chiredzi to Bindura via Masvingo, Mutare and Harare) as well as the Central Diocese (under Bishop Sibanda) which covers most of the Midlands and parts of the Masvingo province.

The ELCZ has continued to be a key and influential member of the Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) which is an ecumenical body made up of thirty protestant churches in Zimbabwe. The Church is also associated with the World Council of Churches (WCC). All the three Dioceses of the ELCZ are bona fide members of the ZCC. In the context of the country’s struggle for independence, the ZCC accompanied the nationalists at the Lancaster House Conference that saw Zimbabwe attaining its independence in 1980. Led by the now Retired Bishop JC Shiri of the ELCZ (as the President) who was accompanied by Rev Murombedzi Kuchera, the ZCC General Secretary then, the Church provided moral and spiritual support to the negotiations processes at Lancaster. Later on, in the 2000s, the now Retired Bishop Naison Shava, also led the ZCC as its President thereby presiding over some key nation building processes led by the Church in the context of the Unity Government in Zimbabwe. Furthermore, in early 2000s, the now Retired Bishop JS Moyo served in the ZCC as its Program Officer responsible for Youth and Evangelism programming. By the way, Bishop Moyo trained me to be a good programmer. I religiously attended his Family Education programs and indeed…I became a near good family man-thank you Bishop Moyo. This shows how the ELCZ has continued to be an ecumenical church working with others in the work of our Lord in Zimbabwe.

Bishop Mhaka comes in as the new Head of the Eastern Diocese. He takes over from Retired Bishop Chemist Faindi who has also been the Church’s Presiding Bishop until today. Having been born on a Christmas Day in the late sixties, Bishop Mhaka was educated at Masase and Mataruse Schools in Mberengwa. He later trained as a Teacher at the Marymount Teachers College before exercising his profession at Mangonde, Chiwara and Musiningira Schools in Mberengwa. Bishop Mhaka is a well-known Music Conductor and Adjudicator-his excellent singing voice is a testimony in this regard. While Bishop Mhaka only later joined the Ministry in 2003 (being influenced by the late Rev O Shiri, according to his interview with the LMF, 22 December 2020), he had already become a key member of the Church as a Youth leader in various capacities. He was later ordained in 2006 and worked for the Church in Mutare and Bulawayo before becoming a Lecturer at the United Theological College. The Eastern Diocese Bishop is a holder of a Bachelor of Theology Honors Degree, Master’s Degree in Theology and is working towards his PhD with the University of KwaZulu Natal.
I have personally known Bishop Mhaka since 2015. I particularly remember when he visited me in Msasa Park when I had just been diagnosed of some cancer in my body. He was in the company of Rev Gevous Savious, another close Man of God to my family. Indeed, I was at my lowest in my life. Hope was something that had vanished from me and indeed, everything had looked upside down-I thought yainge yadeuka and yainge isisaworereki. The Good Reverends prayed for me, prayed for my family, counselled my wife, and reiterated that God was still in control of my life. For some couple of days that followed, the two Men of God accompanied my family in that new life. It worked and today, I am part of the Lutheran multitudes who are celebrating the consecration of Bishop Mhaka. Congratulations My Bishop! From 2018, Bishop Mhaka and Mrs Mhaka have also been involved in peacebuilding processes that I have been part to.
As for Bishop Sibanda, the new Presiding Bishop, I cannot waste your time describing him. The man is not new in the Church and in the ecumenical movement at large. I worked with him on various assignments and programmes since 2003 when I joined the ZCC. Bishop Sibanda has been in the leadership of the ELCZ Church from the youth desk, as the Dean and later as Bishop and today, we say Congratulations to our new Presiding Bishop! Here is a humble and soft-spoken Man of God. To me and my family, Presiding Bishop Sibanda has been a close leader. He is accessible and I strongly believe that in him the ELCZ is in safe hands. I witnessed his consecration in December 2017 in Zvishavane as the new Bishop of the Central Diocese taking over from Retired Bishop Shava and continued to work closely with him in the ZCC Supervisory Council platforms. I got to appreciate his personal attributes as a leader.
The story can never be complete without indicating that the Retiring Bishop Faindi has also been a key figure in the Church. A firm but principled Man of God (probably becausec a Soldier will always be a Soldier) kkkk. Indeed, Bishop Faindi led a team of Bishops Sibanda and Dube with distinction. The ELCZ became so connected to the global Church during his tenure and this allowed for utilisation of some critical developmental opportunities that emerged. Thank you Sekuru vangu Bishop Faindi.

Gareth Bale has confirmed that he will return to Real Madrid next season and will not extend the Tottenham loan transfer with another year.

Mdc Alliance Namibia undertook a resounding launch of the Citizens Convergence for Change as part of the #Agenda2021 throughout its various branches in Namibia.
Mdc Alliance Namibia Rundu Branch Executive met and deliberated on the dire need to recruit and mobilise citizens in the diaspora especially in Namibia so that we are able to demand our fundamental right to vote in the diaspora.
As a branch, we resolved to implement the Party’s recently launched agenda 2021 which included #peoples’agenda, #globalagenda, #reformagenda and #citizensconvergenceforchange. During the meeting, Rundu Branch Treasurer General Obert Chesango urged the leadership of the party to give a clear direction on how the smart agenda should be implemented.
He expressed his worries ahead of 2023 general elections if the party delays to activate the masses into action particularly for comprehensive electoral and political reforms.
Furthermore, following a robust engagement, Rundu Branch Executive pledged to work diligently to implement the smart agenda of the party by mobilising for a serious campaign for the diaspora vote that will see the inclusion of an estimated population of 3 to 4 million Zimbabwean nationals residing outside the country , specifically in Namibia, South Africa, United Kingdom, United States of America, Australia, Zambia, Botswana, Germany only to mention but a few. As part of the party’s global agenda to include us in the national discourse by participating in the general elections in Zimbabwe, Rundu Branch exhibited its readiness to embrace the citizens converge for complete change.
Mdc Alliance Namibia is Cognisant of the fact that the diaspora now ranks as one of the chief contributors to Zimbabwe’s export earnings and 58% jump in remittances from US$635 million , means we can’t be sidelined in serious national issues that determine political and economic stability in the motherland. Statistics reflect that the diaspora contribution to the economy comes after platinum as the second highest. The organic and pragmatic branch executive led by Secretary General Simbarashe Ndoda gave a glance at the US$1 billion remittances that the country received last year from the diaspora, and resolved to push to be accorded more attention since the constituency has become an undoubted backbone of the country’s socio-economic dynamics.
Moreover, we demand that the diaspora must not be relegated to economic contributions. We say NO to this cold shoulder we are getting from our clueless and desperate government when it comes to the basic universal human rights to vote or offer political remedies to the corrupt Zanupf cronies. It is indisputable that 50% of the families (employed or unemployed) rely on remittances. It is in this complex frame that authorities need to come up with sound strategies to harness the undoubted potential of the diaspora factor to grant them the right to contribute economically, socially and politically to the nation’s growth in every aspect that affect citizens.
Moreso, Mdc Alliance Namibia Rundu Branch reminds Zanupf that diaspora vote becomes non-negotiable given how the diaspora is contributing to their beloved Motherland through remittances. We demand the fundamental electoral reforms before 2023 harmonised elections to avert another disputed poll. The vibrant branch remains resolutely behind the Citizens Convergence for Change where all progressive citizens are invited to unite to win Zimbabwe for change. It is now imperative for all poverty-stricken teachers, peasants, lawyers , doctors, nurses, learners, parents and students to converge and confront the beast in the eye. Tinashe Sambiri|Suspected State Security agents invaded human rights organization, Heal Zimbabwe Trust offices in Harare on Tuesday afternoon.
Four individuals accused the organization of harbouring and nurturing anti- government elements.
They also threatened to quash the organization’s activities.

Today (Tuesday) at 12:47 Heal Zimbabwe was besieged by four unidentified people (2 women and 2 men) who threatened unspecified action and concerted unrelenting brutal action against the organisation for what they termed unpatriotic opposition to the government of Zimbabwe.
The attackers were aggressive and threatened to shut down the offices.
The attack came after Taurai Kundishaya visited Heal Zimbabwe Offices the previous day (22-03-21), took pictures and urged Zimbabweans to converge and protests at the organisation’s gates.
On his micro-blog Kundishaya alleged that Heal Zimbabwe was a “home of modern-day slavery, sabotage training, anti-gvt protests planning centre and other illegal activities.”
Heal Zimbabwe sees this as an orchestrated attack meant to frustrate the organisation’s peacebuilding and conflict transformation work. Traditionally, attacks on Civil Society Organisations begin with this kind of allegations leading to raids and arbitrary arrests and prosecutions. This desperate attempt to close down the civic space by disrupting the work of goodwill organisations such ours should end.

The recent allegations of corruption levelled against former ZINARA Chief Executive Officer have exposed the unlawful practices by the Roads Authority of contracting companies to repair and maintain roads.
In terms of the Roads Act Section 7 the role and mandate of the Roads Authority is “to fix road user charges and to collect such charges or any other revenue of the Road Fund, allocate and disburse to road authorities.”
According to the Herald of 19 March 2021 , the ZINARA ex CEO offered overpriced tenders for road rehabilitation with him getting kickbacks of US$144 000 and awarded Fremus Enterprise a total of US$20 million in contracts for rehabilitation of roads without following proper tender processes.
This comes at a time when the state of roads in Zimbabwe are in a poor state with the government declaring the state of roads a “national disaster” with ZINARA calling local authorities to find alternatives to fund road maintenance.
Harare has a road network of 4000 kilometers and due to lack of financing since the ZINARA takeover of vehicle licensing in 2008 the other 2000 kilometers are no longer trafficable due to lack of funds to rehabilitate them.
On the 8th of March Combined Harare Residents Association wrote a letter to the CEO of ZINARA requesting total amounts of funds which the Roads Authority disbursed to the City of Harare and Chitungwiza Municipality of 2020 period but to no avail.
CHRA condemns the actions of the ZINARA of spending road funds as it is outside its mandate and calls on the government to retain vehicle licensing to local authorities in line with Chapter 14 of the constitution on devolution as this enhances transparency and accountability in the management of funds.
We therefore continue to advocate for road licensing fees to be taken back to Local Authorities for communities to be able to monitor how funds will be used and to get roads fixed with transparency and accountability. Devolution is the only solution to stop the misuse and looting of public funds for betterment and improvement of our road infrastructure.
Human rights defenders have blasted the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) for its continued suspension of by-elections citing COVID-19 restrictions.
Zec chief elections officer Utoile Silaigwana in a statement yesterday announced that the electoral body had lifted the suspension on voter registration processes, but would maintain the ban on byelections until further notice.
Around 48 parliamentary seats and over 80 council seats recently fell vacant after the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) recalled MPs and councillors who contested the 2018 polls on an MDC Alliance ticket.
Silaigwana said the voter registration process would resume on April 1, 2021.
“In view of the danger still posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to uphold some health provisions of Statutory Instrument (SI) 10 of 2021 which are still in force, the conduct of byelections remains suspended,”the Zec statement read.
“This position will be reviewed in due course and stakeholders will be advised accordingly. The commission is advising citizens who qualify to register as voters and those wishing to transfer their registrations to visit voter registration centres at Zec provincial and district centres.”
Government last month eased lockdown restrictions allowing the resumption of intercity travel and normal business operations, but under strict COVID-19 protocols.
Opposition leaders and rights activists said the continued ban on by-elections to replace recalled legislators was unjustified since countries that were hard-hit by COVID-19 were holding elections.
MDC Alliance vice-president Tendai Biti yesterday told NewsDay that following the relaxation of the lockdown measures, several activities had resumed and byelections should not be an exception.
“Zec is violating the Constitution by prolonging the suspension of by-elections because it is a basic human right for one to choose a representative of his or her own choice.
“Many countries around the globe are holding elections but still observing the COVID-19 regulations.
“America is one country most affected by the pandemic, but they still managed to hold a safe election. If schools have been reopened, what then stops by-elections where adults are involved, to be carried out?” Biti asked.
Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum executive director Musa Kika said the government should emulate other countries in upholding democratic governance through constitutionalism amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“The continued suspension of by-elections is anti-democratic. Many constituencies representing thousands of people are unrepresented following the recalls. We cannot continue to hide behind COVID-19 when political parties continue to have political engagements.
“Other countries have done general elections successfully. Zec has produced guidelines on conducting elections under COVID-19, but it is not clear why those guidelines are not being followed to conduct elections.”
Human Rights Watch Southern Africa director Dewa Mavhinga said: “Zec seems complicit in the blatant attack on the will of the voters and other nefarious actions to undermine democracy. Zec must demonstrate that it is independent and committed to facilitating credible electoral processes in a COVID-19-safe environment as we have seen in several countries like Malawi, Tanzania and Uganda where the people were able to go to national elections during the COVID-19 pandemic, but with necessary protective measures.”-newsday
Goodness and Mercy Ministries founder, Prophet T Freddy is alleged to have left the exam room with his tail between his legs after he was allegedly caught in an exam cheating storm last week.
Prophet T Freddy who is famed for ‘spiritual spectacles’, where he used spectacles to foretell the future was allegedly caught red-handed trying to cheat in an exam.
He was writing a Theology exam at the Women’s University of Africa in the capital, last week when the embarrassing event happened.
According to impeccable sources who witnessed the whole drama unfold revealed that Prophet T Freddy smuggled a mobile phone into the exam room and mistakenly dropped it from his lap before he walked out of the room in shame.
One of the students who spoke on condition of anonymity to Zimmorningpost, said after the prophet’s phone dropped, he quickly picked it up and left the exam room in a huff before the invigilator confronted him.
He revealed that after Prophet T Freddy left the exam room, some classmates made fun of him, questioning why he failed to use the spiritual spectacles to spot the exams. He also added that the embarrassing episode left everyone in the exam room stunned.
Efforts to get a comment from the Women’s University of Africa proved futile as the University authorities refused to comment on the matter. Efforts to also get a comment from T Freddy hit a snag as his office demanded a ZWL3 000 booking fee.
On Tuesday, his secretary said he was busy with exams and did not respond to questions emailed to him.
Meanwhile, Prophet T Freddy made headlines last year after his Glen View church was demolished by the local authorities who had deemed it as an illegal structure.
By A Correspondent- Four laboratory staffers at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital who were arrested for issuing fake Covid-19 certificates were denied bail when they appeared before Chinhoyi magistrate, Ms Gladmore Mushowe, last Thursday.
Kudzai Chishanyi (41), Gumisai Chirodza (31), Nelson Mashanga (51) and Wedzerai Manyere (39) were remanded in custody to April 1.
The four, including Mercy Banguza who is still at large, issued 48 fake certificates between August and November 2020.-statemedia
By Jane Mlambo| President Emmerson Mnangagwa has chartered a flight for his delegation and opposition political parties including MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora to Victoria Falls where he is expected to launch the second phase of the COVID-19 vaccination programme.
Mnangagwa who will also be jabbed in the resort town had to extend his invitation to Mwonzora despite him not being part of the POLAD platform.
In a letter seen by ZimEye, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Secretary Virginia Mabhiza invited Mwonzora to be part of the Victoria Falls event which will be presided over by Mnangagwa.
The letter further advises Mwonzora to get in touch with the Secretary for Justice for travel arrangements.
According to a source in the POLAD platform, principals were referred to a COVID-19 testing centre ahead of the trip to Victoria Falls.
“All the leaders in the POLAD platform will fly with the President and the invitation has been extended to Mwonzora who is not part of the platform. He will fly with us the rest of the party principals,” the source said.
Asked if they will use the usual chartered flight from Dubai, the source said he was not aware as Mnangagwa had used Air Zimbabwe on his trip to Tanzania for John Magufuli’s burial.
To confirm that Mwonzora could be flying together with Mnangagwa, he took his second jab in Harare this morning, the same time Mnangagwa was officially opening a data centre before his flight.
A flight to Victoria Falls usually take an hour with a journey by road taking approximately eight hours.
A few days ago, Mwonzora told MDC-T Members of Parliament to stop anti-Mnangagwa chants, something that could have persuaded the Zanu PF leader to consider him among his delegation to Victoria Falls.
By A Correspondent- A detective based at Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Gokwe, died on the spot when unknown assailants attacked him and a colleague while they were on their way home from work.
Police have since launched a manhunt for the assailants who stabbed Lloyd Muchaiona who later died from excessive bleeding.
Muchaiona’s friend, Fanuel Chirori, is battling for life after he was stabbed on the shoulder and thigh.
National Police Spokesperson, Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.
“On 19 March 2021, in Gokwe a police officer who was in the company of a friend and was on his way home from work, was stabbed with a knife on the thigh for unspecified reason and he died on the spot,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.
Police are still looking for the attackers.
“The two suspects involved in the stabbings are still at large. Anyone with information on the case can contact any nearest police station or National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or 0712800107,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.
Meanwhile, in another incident police in Kwekwe shot dead a suspect linked to assault and robbery cases after he resisted arrested and attacked police officers with a homemade knife.
“On March 15, in Amaveni, Kwekwe, a 20-year-old man was shot by a police officer on duty. The police officer intended to arrest him in connection with cases of assault and robbery,” said Ass Comm Nyathi.
He said the suspect, whose name was not given, resisted arrest and attacked three police officers with a home-made knife after initially hiding in his bedroom.
He was shot once on the chest and he succumbed to the injuries.

An illegal gold panner who was in 2018 sentenced to death for fatally stabbing his wife 27 times following a row with his in-laws over payment of lobola, has approached the Supreme Court challenging his sentence.
Dignity Masvimbo (28) of Winery Compound, Greenvale in Gweru, walked for about 20km to his wife, Oripa Gapare’s family home in Mkoba 14 where he fatally stabbed her 27 times.
Masvimbo stabbed Gapare (22) all over the body while she lay helplessly on the ground, leading to her death in April 2017. He was convicted of murder with actual intent by Bulawayo High Court Judge Justice Nokuthula Moyo on circuit in Gweru.
Masvimbo, through his lawyer Mr Tawanda Tavengwa of Mutuso, Taruvinga and Mhiribidi Legal Practitioners, filed an appeal against sentence at the Supreme Court citing the State as the respondent.
In his grounds of appeal, Masvimbo said Justice Moyo misdirected herself when she failed to consider and give due weight to the mitigatory factors before passing the death sentence.
“The lower court improperly exercised its sentencing discretion resulting in a sentence that induces a sense of shock. The judge gave more weight to factors in aggravation and overlooked the fact that I was a youthful offender who can be rehabilitated by a lengthy prison term,” he argued.
Mr Tavengwa argued that his client acted out of emotional stress and pleaded with the Supreme Court bench to set aside the judgment of the High Court and substitute it with a life imprisonment.
Appearing for the State, Mr Khumbulani Ndlovu opposed the application, arguing that Masvimbo was in full control of his faculties when committed the offence. He argued that there were no sufficient mitigatory factors warranting misdirection on the part of the lower court.
“It is submitted that the judge of the lower court, in my view, judiciously exercised her sentencing discretion when she imposed the death sentence on the appellant. The sentence is neither an irregularity nor misdirection,” said Mr Ndlovu.
He urged the court to dismiss Masvimbo’s appeal, saying it did not warrant consideration for a sentence other than the death penalty.
“The commission of the offence does not comport with youthfulness. The murder was so calculated and callous hence this factor of youthfulness on its own does not constitute a weighty circumstance of a mitigatory nature so as to reduce his moral blameworthiness,” said Mr Ndlovu.
Deputy Chief Justice Elizabeth Gwaunza, sitting with Justices Nicholas Mathonsi and Samuel Kudya during a Supreme Court on circuit in Bulawayo yesterday, said the murder was well planned and executed with precision. She, however, reserved judgement.
According to court papers, Masvimbo and Gapare had separated in October 2016 following a domestic dispute which emanated from his failure to pay lobola. The now deceased moved out of their matrimonial house to stay with her parents in Mkoba 14.
Masvimbo followed her in a bid to make peace but was told by the deceased’s mother that he needed to pay lobola first if he wanted to take back his wife. He failed to pay the lobola and continued to stay at his house.
Six months later at around 5PM, Masvimbo proceeded to the deceased’s residence armed with an Okapi knife. He went inside the house using an unlocked main door and sat on a couch in the lounge. Masvimbo then called Gapare to the lounge and without notice dragged her outside the house and assaulted her.
Gapare called for help and her 91-year-old grandmother Mrs Hamundide Mashayamombe came to her rescue by grabbing her waist pulling her away from Masvimbo. It was stated that Masvimbo pushed Mrs Mashayamombe and she fell down. He then dragged Gapare to the veranda and went on to indiscriminately stab her 27 times all over the body.
The woman died on the spot and Masvimbo fled from the scene.
A report was made to the police leading to Masvimbo’s arrest.
ZIMBABWE remains one of top eight countries in Africa which is heavily burdened by tuberculosis (TB), the global TB report has revealed.
The report, which coincided with commemorations of World TB Day celebrated annually on March 24, also stated that the country is on the world’s top 30 list of nations heavily burdened by TB, TB/HIV and multi-drug resistant TB (MDR-TB).
The countries account for 85% to 89% cases of TB globally.
Zimbabwe was also said to be still grappling with the impact of COVID-19 on tuberculosis programming.
The country has an estimated 21 000 new cases of TB each year, and 3,1% of these are drug resistant.
About 6 300 Zimbabweans die of TB each year despite it being a preventable and curable disease.
The global TB report said treatment coverage was 72% in 2019, decreasing from 83% in 2018.
“An estimated 6,160 to 10,640 cases were missed in 2019. Males bear the brunt of disease burden, particularly the economically productive aged 25 to 44-years,” the report said.
Speaking on the eve of World TB Day running under the theme The Clock is Ticking, the deputy director for the global Aids and TB unit, Charles Sandy, said in the early 1990s there was a very steep surge in TB cases fuelled bytained decline in tandem with the increase in the coverage of antiretroviral treatment and adoption of innovative tools and best practices over time. He said TB programming was severely impacted by COVID-19 stigma as well as lack of access to health facilities.
Recently there were reports that TB tests had been scaled down as focus was now focused on the novel virus.
Sources said the GeneXpert machines used for diagnosing Tuberculosis were now overburdened as they were also being used for COVID-19 tests.
Sandy said cartridges for the machines ran out in December last year and were not replaced fast enough. There were also challenges with some TB medicines.
He said this had been due to supply chain challenges and distribution bottlenecks.
Community Working Group On Health executive director Itai Rusike called for accelerated action to eradicate the disease.
“The response to COVID-19 pushed aside tuberculosis outreach and services, resulting in a 20% drop in diagnosis and treatment worldwide,” Rusike said.-Newsday
The Zimbabwe National Organisation of Associations and Residents Trusts (ZNOART) notes a disturbing video circulating where bus operators, hwindis or conductors are abusing and insulting a woman passenger at a local bus station. This is very disturbing and as ZNOART we condemn this in the strongest terms.
As residents and passengers, we demand that police arrest these culprits immediately. In a modern society where passengers have freedom of choice and women carry the society’s future, such kind of behaviour has no place.
We have noticed these abuses happening at every bus station across all the cities countrywide. These abuses also include verbal abuses especially to defenceless women, resulting in vulgar language being thrown around the termini and in the process leading to cultural erosion. Such abuses must stop.
ZRP in collaboration with council police must act NOW towards making the bus termini user friendly. This can only be done through arresting touts thereby reducing touting within the vicinity of bus termini in order to promote sanity.
We also call upon local councils to be in full control of their bus termini. Further to that, the councils must refurbish bus terminuses which are largely in a dilapidated state.

By A Correspondent- Government yesterday said it would strengthen surveillance at the country’s border posts during the upcoming Easter holidays to minimise transmission of the COVID-19 virus.
This was said by Information and Publicity minister Monica Mutsvangwa during a postCabinet media briefing in Harare, where she stated that border posts were fertile ground for transmission of the respiratory disease.
Zimbabwe’s COVID-19 cases stood at 36 684 infections and 1 512 deaths as of yesterday morning.
“As the nation approaches the Easter holidays, Cabinet notes that there is a likelihood of increased internal and cross-border movement of people, which may provide fertile ground for increased transmission,” Mutsvangwa said.
“In that regard, the Ministry of Health and Child Care is strengthening surveillance, case management, and risk communication and community engagement in anticipation of the Easter holidays. Special attention will be accorded to ports of entry and exit.”
She said government had also given the greenlight to driving schools, the Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe and the Vehicle Inspectorate Department to resume operations strictly adhering to approved standard operating procedures and World Health Organisation guidelines for the prevention of transmission of COVID-19.
Mutsvangwa said government was considering the reopening of casinos after a long period of closure.
On legislation, the Information minister said government had approved the Copper Control Amendment Bill, which seeks to impose 30-year jail sentences on copper cable thieves without the option of a fine.
She said the Bill sought to curb vandalism and theft of Zesa and TelOne infrastructure.
“Convicted copper thieves will now be liable to imprisonment for a period of not less than 30 years without the option of a fine. In addition, any vehicle or device used to illegally transport copper will now be forfeited to the State,” Mutsvangwa said.-newsday
THE nomination of Sibangilizwe Nkomo, son of the late Vice-President Joshua Nkomo, as one of Zapu’s presidential candidates has been challenged by other party members who accused him of not being a card-carrying member.
Zapu Matabeleland South provincial chairperson Matthew Sibanda told Southern Eye yesterday that Nkomo was not a card-carrying member of the opposition party and, therefore, was ineligible to contest for the presidency.
“Nkomo is not a Zapu member, we do not have him in our list of party members. How is he going to contest?” he asked rhetorically.
“He is supposed to be a fully paid-up member of the party. He is free to contest only if he joins the party from branch level, and if his branch nominates him, then he can go ahead and contest.”
But Sibangilizwe, who was nominated by fellow villagers in his home area, Kezi, denied the allegations, challenging his detractors to prove their claims.
“Let people say what they want, I am not prepared to talk now, but will talk in mid-April. What if I had a party card long back? No one knows,” Nkomo said.
The opposition party plans to hold its elective congress on April 30, the first since the death of its leader Dumiso Dabengwa in 2019.
Other members eyeing the Zapu presidency are Matthew Bhubesi Sibanda, Strike Mkandla, Bernard Magugu and Mqondobanzi Magonya.
Isaac Mabuka, who has been holding the post in an acting capacity, has ruled himself out of the race.
The secretary-general and chairperson’s posts are also up for grabs.
The party also wants the vice-presidency to be contested, departing from its tradition whereby a president would appoint his/her deputy.
By A Correspondent- National Foods is set to install a new state-of-the-art US$5 million flour milling plant at the firm’s factory in Bulawayo.
The new plant will replace the existing production line, but the company said the project has been carefully planned to ensure that the supply of flour in the southern region will not be disrupted during the installation phase.
In a statement accompanying financial results for the half-year ended December 31, 2020, the diversified agro-industrial concern, said:
The board has approved the purchase of a new state-of-the-art flour mill, which will be installed as a replacement for the existing mill at the Bulawayo Basch Street site, at an estimated cost of US$5 million.
This significant project has been carefully planned to ensure continuity of flour supply to the southern region during the installation phase and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
National Foods revealed that in the half-year period, its stockfeed division registered a 34 per cent increase in volumes when compared to the prior period.
In the groceries division, the company said volumes increased significantly by 98 per cent versus the comparative period.
On the cooking oil division, National Foods said volumes increased by 64 per cent compared to the same period last year.
On the International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) calls upon the state to take concrete measures designed to reveal the truth concerning gross human rights violations that have occurred in Zimbabwe. ZLHR also urges the state actors to take steps to restore the dignity of the victims of gross human rights violations by initiating necessary processes to provide reparations to the victims, survivors and their relatives.
The International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims is celebrated every year on 24 March.
It aims to honour the memory of victims of gross and systematic human rights violations and promote the importance of the right to truth and justice. In addition, it seeks to pay tribute to the people who have devoted their lives to or lost their lives in the struggle to promote and protect the human rights of everyone. The day is also an opportunity to celebrate the important work and values of Archbishop Oscar Arnulfo Romero. Archbishop Romero was assassinated after he denounced violations of the human rights of the most vulnerable populations and defended the principles of protecting lives, promoting human dignity and the rejection of all forms of violence.
The right to the truth about gross human rights violations and serious violations of human rights law is an inalienable right. Such a right imposes an obligation on the state to protect and guarantee human rights through conducting investigations and the provision of effective remedies and reparations to the victims of gross human rights violations. The right to the truth implies the knowledge of the complete truth as to the events that transpired, the specific circumstances in which the violations took place, who participated in them and the reasons for the violations. In addition, the relatives of the victims of torture, summary executions, and enforced disappearances are entitled to know what happened to the victims.
Although the Constitution of Zimbabwe established the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission, ZLHR remains concerned that many victims and survivors of gross human rights violations have not yet been able to know the truth about what happened to them, their relatives, friends or neighbours.
The Gukurahundi massacres remain a sore point in the history of Zimbabwe and it is worrying that the state has not yet conducted thorough investigations into these gross human rights violations that qualify as genocide under international law. ZLHR has collaborated in the past with other like-minded organisations to compel the state actors to release information to establish the truth. In the constitutional case of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights & Another v The President of the Republic of Zimbabwe & Another filed as case No. 311 of 1999, the applicants sought a court order for the release of information to establish the truth about Gukurahundi. Although the case was dismissed, ZLHR joins all progressive people who continue to call on state actors to release information for the truth to be established and bring the perpetrators of the massacres to account and pay reparations to the families of the victims and survivors.
The right to the truth and dignity of victims requires that the state pay reparations for the state-sanctioned gross violations and apologise. Similarly, the state should promptly and thoroughly investigate all documented cases of human rights violations such as disappearances of human rights defenders that have occurred in the past.
The August 1 2018 shootings must also be thoroughly investigated and the perpetrators held accountable. The relatives of all those who were murdered in cold blood by state security agents on that day are entitled to full knowledge about what happened to the victims as well as reparations from the state.
On this International Day for the Right to the Truth Concerning Gross Human Rights Violations and for the Dignity of Victims, ZLHR urges state actors to:
o Take concrete measures designed to reveal the truth concerning gross human rights violations that have occurred during different periods in Zimbabwe’s history,
o Take steps to restore the dignity of the victims of gross human rights violations by making reparations,
o Investigate the reported and documented cases of enforced disappearances,
o Pay reparations to the relatives of the victims of enforced disappearances,
o Urgently investigate all documented cases of gross violations and make the perpetrators accountable and pay reparations to the relatives of the victims.
By Taruberekera Masara in Pretoria| The defections that are currently happening in the MDC Alliance or the MDC perse has a dominant demographic characteristic,age. This common denominator has exposed the rift between old and young. Nelson Chamisa’s youth firewall is pushing old guard out.
The defections represent a classic form of generational cleansing.
Profound fractures and divides in an organization can remain deliberately hidden only for so long: sudden dramatic events act like flares, making them impossible to ignore. The rise of the youths inside major political organizations in Zimbabwe MDC and Zanu PF has been a reason of factionalism and factional purging.
Most of the people who have left the MDC-Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa feel that the leader is too young to steer the party and often times have threw maturity caution in the air.
But what stands out is that the old guard feels so intimidated by the rise of the youths. Zanu PF equally had to throw Douglas Mwonzora as it’s preferred candidate to lead the MDC-Alliance. Bizzare as it is,Victor Matemadanda of Zanu PF underscored the importance of age factor saying that Mwonzora was mature enough than Chamisa.
Research Advocacy Unit Zimbabwe once argued that voters end to vote for their age mates because they think that their aspirations will be heard well. Life cycle generational politics a major mobilising factor. The defections rocking the MDC speaks volumes of such. The old guard can’t trust the youths with their aspirations. They think they are better off with their age mates as leaders. It is not surprising that people who are leaving MDC-ALLIANCE find solace in a septuagenarian north aged party Zanu PF.
Statistically MDC is a dominantly youth led (45 years southwards) and this is so intimidating. Old politicians feel the threat of their voices being drowned,hence the choice to move out and find new homes.
From Tongai Matutu,Blessing Chebundo,Lilian Timevous,James Mushore and Obert Gutu to mention a few the age factor says a lot. They were at peace with Morgan Tsvangirai as their leader because he was either older than them or in their generational bracket.
Obert Gutu in his justification for leaving MDC said that Morgan Tsvangirai died together with the party. What is clear in his justification is that he could not stomach any other leader at the helm of the party other than Tsvangirai.
The demographic fact amongst the is just one illustration of an undeniable truth: that Zimbabwe’s generations occupy completely different political and moral universes, to a degree that seems without observable precedent in our modern history.It primarily takes the form of a generational clash that divides not just the progressive politics, but the nation too.
Generational politics is not just an uncomfortable phenomenon. It can be positively poisonous, because the very foundation of our politics is that the cleavage that really matters in society is who has wealth and power, and who does not; who has to work in order to survive, and who profits from that labour. Young people are in the periphery of government policies and hence they should fight to get included,yet exclusionary politicians loathe it. They want to remain captains of the gravy train as long as they please.
Generations as categories seem too unstable and contradictory to be useful, in any case.
While it is undeniable fact that there are Zimbabweans over 65 who believe in the revolutionary overthrow of Zanu PF fascism, while some of the most stridently rightwing commentators in the public sphere are significantly younger for example the social media savvy (Varakashi brigade). But there is no question that profoundly contrasting social attitudes have fused with economic realities to, overall, create a generational chasm.
The prisms through which we see the world and interpret the events around us are formed, after all, by our lived experiences. Why would younger Zimbabweans side so decisively with Chamisa over the old guard? For a start, they are likely to side with people who identify with their own personal experience. While older citizens report solidly high levels of this kind of patriotism, fewer younger citizens do so. This really is not surprising? For younger Zimbabweeans a life of economic insecurity and stagnating living standards, leaves more question marks inevitably hanging over pride in country.
In large part, generation has intersected with class. Homeownership is a preserve of older citizens– they own the majority of properties. Apparently homeowners’ housing wealth – is heavily septuagenarian,while collapsing among the youth who have been driven into the insecure private rented sector. While social democracy has rightly been preserved for older generations through the triple lock in pensions, the lot of many of young Zimbabweans – whether they’re saddled with university debt or not – is insecure work, a decimated social security system and slashed public services.
Economic insecurity fuses with progressive social values: here is a generation whose attitudes have been forged by decades of struggle the younger people increasingly stridently assert their values and challenge the cultural norms of an establishment dominated by older Zimbabweans has led to moral panic. The loathing, of younger Zimbabweans threaten to trash the established order.
Even though the media is aware of demographic facts around the youthfulness of Zimbabwean population, any concessions to the moral outlooks or social demands of younger Zimbabweans – however superficial – cause terror among an insecure old order. It is hard to not to interpret the establishment’s preference of Douglas Mwonzora at the MDC T Extra Ordinary Congress as an attempt to build higher walls to stave off the rising tide of a younger generation.It is trait that young voters would prefer any youthful representative to older ones as leader, unlike their older peers, is hardly unsurprising.
Generational relevance has a greater appeal among a disenfranchised youth. Chamisa is, in part, a reassertion of the dominance of the youth – far more wedded to Third Way politics –whose base are the millennials,unemployed graduates,the economic refugees in the Diaspora and the women whose sexual reproductive health care is at stake.
All of this represents a serious challenge for progressive politics. Older and affluent Zimbabwe are of course the most likely to vote, and the keen to have Zanu PF rig the electoral system further in their favour.
Can the alternative leader (Chamisa) successfully peel off enough economically secure, socially conservative older voters without alienating their younger supporters in order to build an electoral coalition? That question remains unanswered.Chamisa faces an enigma of a seismic rift that has opened up between the generations: it is only likely to widen further.
By A Correspondent- A self proclaimed prophet from Jotsholo in Matabeleland north province has been slapped with an effective 20-year jail term for raping a 10-year-old girl who was taken to him for prayers by her mother.
Emmanuel Ncube (34) on Monday pleaded guilty to the rape charge when he appeared before Hwange regional magistrate Collet Ncube.
The magistrate convicted him on his own plea and sentenced him to 20 years in jail.
Prosecutor Vumizulu Mangena told the court that on October 9, 2020 at 3pm, the girl’s mother took her and her two siblings to Ncube’s homestead for prayers.
Ncube prayed for them and when they were about to leave, he asked their mother to leave the 10-year-old girl behind.
it is the state’s case that the mother agreed and left the child behind and at 8pm, the girl went to sleep with other children at Ncube’s place.
Ncube called the child to his bedroom hut on the pretext that he wanted to pray for her.
He raped her and threatened to unleash evil spirits on her if she told anyone about the incident.
The next day, the girl told her mother about the incident and a report was made to the police, leading to Ncube’s arrest.
The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating three cases of murder which occurred in Bulawayo and Midlands Provinces from 15 to 19 March 2021 involving members of the Zimbabwe Republic Police. In Amaveni, Kwekwe, on 15 March 2021, a 20 year old man was shot by a Police Officer on duty intending to arrest him in connection with cases of assault and robbery. The victim resisted arrest and attacked three Police Officers with a home-made knife after initially hiding in his bedroom. He was shot once on the chest and succumbed to the injuries.
On 18 March 2021, a Police officer (30) clad in Police Uniform who was trying to restrain an attack on his friend was tripped onto the ground by three unknown men in Magwegwe, Bulawayo. The victim landed on the ground with the back of his head and died from the injuries sustained. The suspects are still at large.
Meanwhile, on 19 March 2021, in Gokwe, a Police Officer who was in the company of a friend and was on his way home from work was stabbed with a knife on the thigh for an unspecified reason and died on the spot. His friend was also stabbed on the left shoulder and right thigh before being ferried to hospital by well wishers. The two suspects involved in the stabbings are also at large. Members of the public are warned against resisting arrest and attacking Police Officers during the discharge of their duties. By A Correspondent- A Harare man yesterday appeared in court for swindling CABS Bank clients of $533 000 after taking advantage of a system malfunction at the financial institution.
The suspect, Israel Magate (31) of Dzivaresekwa, appeared before magistrate Tafadzwa Mhiti and was remanded in custody to today for bail ruling.
Allegations are that on September 7, 2020, the accused person connived with James Mtisi, who is still at large, to defraud a complainant, Simbarashe Charamba, taking advantage of the fact that CABS Bank’s system was malfunctioning, resulting in it duplicating transactions.
They misrepresented to the bank that Magate had lost his bank card at a time he was scheduled to receive transfers in local currency from the sale of his wardrobe through his CABS Bank account.
His Econet SIM card was then matched to his bank account.
It is alleged that Magate then used the account to receive $270 000 from Caroline Zirata and on that same date, he transferred $260 000 into Charamba’s CABS Bank account, resulting in the complainant’s account having an overdraft of $270 589,96.
They used the same modus operandi to defraud other unsuspecting depositors, resulting in them incurring overdrafts of more than $200 000.
Their criminal activities came to light on January 18, 2021 when one of the complainants was called by a CABS Bank official and informed that his account had an overdraft of $272 699,21.
Investigations were carried out, leading to the arrest of the accused person.-Newsday
Tafadzwa Makandiwa, young brother to founder and leader of United Families International Church (UFIC) Emmanuel Makandiwa, was last week involved in a road accident that left his vehicle extensively damaged.
According to ZimCelebs, Tafadzwa, a pastor in his own right, was driving a Toyota Fortuner on his way from Shamva when the accident occurred on 19 March 2021.

The crash was allegedly caused by a suspicious Isuzu truck that followed Makandiwa and his two colleagues on their way to, and back from Shamva.
While driving to Shamva in the afternoon, the Isuzu truck reportedly forced Makandiwa to make a sudden stop and on his way back to Harare 5 hours later, the same unregistered vehicle showed up again on a stretch of road, changed lanes and drove directly towards the Toyota Fortuner.
In an attempt to avoid a head-on collision, the driver of the Toyota Fortuner swerved off the road and hit a huge tree and the car overturned and rolled twice before landing on its wheels again.
The accident was reported at Shamva police station.
All three occupants of the Toyota Fortuner were unhurt but went to the trauma centre for X-rays immediately after the accident.
It is alleged that days before the accident, suspicious people had been sending threats to Makandiwa family members.
By A Correspondent- The government has given driving schools and the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) permission to resume operations that were suspended late last year following a sharp rise in coronavirus infections in the country.
In her post-Cabinet briefing in Harare on Tuesday, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa also said casino operators may resume businesses soon, as Cabinet is seized with their requests to reopen.
Mutsvangwa told reporters that driving schools have to adhere to approved standard operating procedures and the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines for the prevention of transmission of COVID-19. She said:

TWO of the 16 illegal gold miners who pounced on Eldorado Gold Mine on the outskirts of Chinhoyi last Friday morning have been arrested.
Ten others — two believed to be armed with guns — are still underground after gaining access to the mine shaft and hoisting out all mine workers.
They are believed to be mining.
The invasion, which occurred around 1am on Friday was captured on the mine’s CCTV and comes barely a week after the mine lost almost 1,5 kg of gold to robbers.
The two gang members were arrested on Monday evening after they were hoisted to the surface. Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Margaret Chitove confirmed the arrest and said the other 10 were still underground.

Mine director Ms Emy Zhuang who said all the 12 were recorded on CCTV, added that mining operations have since been suspended.
“We have since lost over 18 hours of mining operations due to the attack. We have over 200 workers who need to be paid and each disruption affects work which in turn affects production.
“Last month we lost seven days of production to another invasion where six armed men invaded the mine.
“Police are now in charge and are very concerned about the safety of our workers. We are hopeful that they will be able to apprehend these culprits.”

Former Chivi South MP Killer Zivhu has questioned the value of holding elections in Zimbabwe considering that they almost always result in disputed outcomes.
Zivhu, a controversial businessman who was expelled from the ruling Zanu PF party last year for his outspokenness, claimed that the late former president Robert Mugabe lost to the late MDC leader Morgan Tsvangirai in 2008 but refused to relinquish power.
In a post on Twitter, Zivhu asserted that elections “are a waste of time” and Zimbabweans are better off engaging in dialogue rather than wasting national resources on useless elections. He wrote:
Do we really need elections in Zimbabwe or it’s just a waste of time and resources, Tsvangirayi won elections Mugabe akaramba kubva only to admit adzingwa kuti ndakadyiwa (refused to admit he had lost, only admitting that he lost the elections after he had been toppled).

Zanu PF political commissar Defense Ministry Deputy Minister Victor Matemadand has sensationally said they(the war vets) did not liberate this country to donate or surrender it to Chamisa.
Matemadanda was speaking at the Zanu PF Mashonaland East provincial co-ordinating committee meeting in Marondera on Sunday when he took numerous jabs at the youthful opposition leader including saying his party is melting like a candle and they (the ruling party) are not yet done.
Addressing the meeting Matemadanda said they (war veterans) did not liberate this country to hand over the country if anyone entertains that thought they may need to go through a mental exam. Said Matemadanda:
Now he (Chamisa) is crying accusing Zanu PF of being behind his demise. You think that we liberated this country to surrender it? If that is the case then we need to be examined by psychiatrists.
Do you think that we missed a greater part of our youth days liberating this country to donate it? Are we donors? We will defend ourselves.

A Buhera woman is angry that the local Police never returned to make further investigations nor to update her after taking statements on the murder of her husband Muchemi Chinembiri in November 2019.
Chinembiri was murdered in front of his wife and daughter after he came out of his bedroom to answer a knock on the door.
The incident happened in Kuenda Village under Chief Nyashanu in Buhera, said the deceased’s wife Patience Chifamba.
Manicaland Police spokesperson Inspector Luxson Chananda told Chipinge Times that he was going to contact Murambinda Police station to find out what happened to the investigations.
Chifamba said her deceased husband named the people that assaulted him before he died but they were never arrested nor picked by the Police.
“My husband named one of the men that he saw assaulting him before he died. We gave his name to the Police but the suspect was never arrested or picked up for questioning. Now he is threatening anyone from the family who dares go back to the Police to follow up on the murder case.
“I have lost confidence in the Police, they have let us down. I am very sure that the cops involved in the investigations took bribes,” said Chifamba.
She said the incident happened after a land dispute between her husband and members of Dzehonye family.
Efforts to get a comment from the Dzehonye family were futile. A few days after the dispute, a man came knocking on Chinembiri’s door at night asking for directions.
Chinembiri was hit with a heavy object on the leg as soon as he came out of the house and he fell to the ground before three other men came out and started hitting him with logs and fists.
Chifamba said she tried to shout out for help but one of the men threatened to kill her and she kept quiet watching her husband being attacked.
Her daughter who was sleeping in the other hut came out after hearing the noise and she was also threatened after she tried to cry for help.
“The attackers disappeared into the night after noticing that the deceased was quiet. Chinembiri died before he was taken to hospital. Before he died, he said he wanted to be buried at the homestead of one of his alleged attackers,” said Chifamba.
Police took the body for post mortem and also took some statements of the murder. “We never heard from the Police since the day they took the statements. They just disappeared.
“All we want is justice. We will never stop to demand it. It is now two years since my husband was killed and not a single suspect was arrested.
“We are ready to avail ourselves for investigations,” said Chifamba.

Britain’s Prince Harry will become chief impact officer of coaching and mental health firm BetterUp Inc, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday.
In his new role, Harry is expected to have input into initiatives such as product strategy decisions and charitable contributions, and advocate publicly on topics related to mental health, the report said.
BetterUp did not immediately respond to Reuters request for comment. The nomination of Sibangilizwe Nkomo, son of the late Vice-President Joshua Nkomo, as one of Zapu’s presidential candidates has been challenged by other party members who accused him of not being a card-carrying member. Zapu Matabeleland South provincial chairperson Matthew Sibanda told Southern Eye yesterday that Nkomo was not a card-carrying member of the opposition party and, therefore, was ineligible to contest for the presidency.
“Nkomo is not a Zapu member, we do not have him in our list of party members. How is he going to contest?” he asked rhetorically.
“He is supposed to be a fully paid-up member of the party. He is free to contest only if he joins the party from branch level, and if his branch nominates him, then he can go ahead and contest.”
But Sibangilizwe, who was nominated by fellow villagers in his home area, Kezi, denied the allegations, challenging his detractors to prove their claims.
“Let people say what they want, I am not prepared to talk now, but will talk in mid-April. What if I had a party card long back? No one knows,” Nkomo said.
The opposition party plans to hold its elective congress on April 30, the first since the death of its leader Dumiso Dabengwa in 2019.
Other members eyeing the Zapu presidency are Matthew Bhubesi Sibanda, Strike Mkandla, Bernard Magugu and Mqondobanzi Magonya.
Isaac Mabuka, who has been holding the post in an acting capacity, has ruled himself out of the race. The secretary-general and chairperson’s posts are also up for grabs.

HIGHLANDERS’ 2020 revenue increased by 58 percent despite inactivity caused by Covid-19.
According to the club’s audited financials, presented in local currency by club treasurer Donald Ndebele at Sunday’s annual general meeting, Highlanders’ income as at December 31, 2020, stood at $19 694 950 compared to $12 627 091 realised in 2019.
Highlanders’ revenue increased by $7 million despite not playing games due to a suspension of the country’s sport.
The biggest chunk of the revenue came from the sale of players and development fees.
Bosso sold Prince Dube to Azam FC of Tanzania and they paid US$50 000 which according to the audit report was equivalent to $4 104 545 using the official auction rate.
It was revealed in the financias that should Dube move from Azam, Highlanders are set to get 30 percent of the sale.
Michelle Katsvairo who moved to Botswana, bought himself out the Bosso contract for US$1 500 ($122 680).
Development fees paid to the Highlanders for Marvelous Nakamba and Teenage Hadebe earned the club $4 046 770.
The development fee for Nakamba’s move from Belgian side Club Brugge to English side Aston Villa was €44 171, with Bosso getting €35 326 (US$40 116) after the agent’s 20 percent commission.
According to the audit’s report, the balance paid to Highlanders was equal to $3 317 602 using the official exchange rate of 1:82.70.
The development fee for Hadebe’s move to Turkey’s Yeni Malatyspor was US$3 500 and after the agent’s fee, Highlanders received US$2 664 (an equivalent of $222 362 at an exchange rate of 83.50).
Highlanders indicated that they intend disposing some players to foreign leagues that are operational.
Bosso believe they have talent to attract foreign teams and will continue with their pursuit of selling players to generate revenue.

By James Gwati-Gospel musician Baba Machanic Manyeruke said he had forgiven and forgotten about Pride Africa Network director Sheppard Sirewu who in 2014 promised him a Jaguar XF car.
In 2014 Siweru promised the veteran musician a Jaguar XF as an honour for his contribution to the music industry.
Dinner and a concert were held where it was announced that Baba Manyeruke, as he is lovingly called by fans, would get the car before year-end.
Manyeruke was shown the car that he was supposed to get at a media photoshoot.
It has been seven years now and Siweru has not delivered on his promise or updated Manyeruke on the progress.
Speaking to the state media Monday, Manyeruke said he had forgiven the fake promoter.
“Well, I have forgiven and forgotten about that music promoter dealer. He was someone trying to raise his bar by honouring musicians, but unfortunately, it did not happen.
“We met and spoke about it. I never pursued the issue again because this was a promise and you know they can be broken. But I urge and encourage music promoters or business people who would want to work with us to honour promises they would have put on the table and finish everything first, rather than to have glory and fame for things that are not there. That will be an abuse of the sector.”
Manyeruke said he was grateful as some well-wishers had been coming on board to assist him considering that the music sector has been hard-hit by Covid-19.
“My last performance was in December of last year in Bulawayo. I miss the stage, but for now, there is nothing we can do. I am happy that Mikayi from Voice of Mbare managed to drill a borehole at my rural house. I was surprised by the gesture.
“He didn’t want that to be publicised that time, but it is worth mentioning,” said Manyeruke.

Mnangagwa said this in a message on his Twitter handle this afternoon. “In 2019/2020, Zimbabwe had a maize harvest of 908 000 tonnes. This year the maize harvest is predicted to triple to 2.8 million tonnes – a record harvest post-land reform.
Zimbabweans, don’t let the doubters dampen your spirit. Our country is on the path to prosperity,” he said.
The country received above normal rains this season that have spurred growth prospects for the economy.

The state media reports that the football club’s house manager Bonisani Mafela’s theft case was discovered after a stock take and cash count conducted by the club’s auditors PN and A Chartered Accountants.
Presenting the club’s audited financial statement for the year ended December 31, 2020, Highlanders’ treasurer Donald Ndebele said the club is in the process of recovering the missing funds, and Mafela is set to repay the club in six-months time.
Ndebele said Mafela, who had been hired to supervise and turnaround the clubhouse’s fortunes, signed an acknowledgement of debt and will in instalments of US$400.
“As at 31 December 2020, PN and A Chartered Accountants, (Ralph Bomment Greenaccre and Reynolds), conducted a stock count and a cash count at Highlanders Football Club. During the audit, it was noted that end of year cash count conducted independently by PN and A Chartered Accountants (Z) was understated by ZWL265 543 compared to the daily cash counts conducted by (the) manager.
“Management has since the year-end cash count conducted an investigation, which resulted in the clubhouse manager signing an acknowledgement of debt in the admission of variance obtained and with guidance from the legal counsel management have opted to recover these funds.
If management had carried out independent daily cash counts during the year the variance would have been detected earlier and the loss would have been averted,” reads part of the financial statement.
Ndebele said according to the Highlanders’ constitution, the vice-chairman of the club oversees the operations of the clubhouse.
By James Gwati- Self claimed prophet and the leader of Goodness and Mercy Ministries, Tapuwa Freddy has been caught trying to cheat in the Theology exam.
Freddy who made headlines last year after his Glen View church was demolished by the local authorities who had deemed it as an illegal structure, was writing a Theology exam at the Women’s University of Africa in the capital, last week when the embarrassing event happened.
According to a local online publication, Zim Morning Post, the self-proclaimed prophet smuggled a mobile phone into the exam room and mistakenly dropped it from his lap.
“He smuggled the phone and hid it on his lap but I don’t know how he dropped the phone.
” He left the exam room in huff before the invigilator confronted him.
“It was an embarrassing episode and classmates made fun of him, questioning why he failed to use the spiritual spectacles to spot the exams,” the paper quoted Freddy’s classmates.
By James Gwati- A Government minister has fired the senior manager with the Agricultural Rural Development Authority (Arda) in front of journalists for “not following President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s economic reform agenda”.
Anxious Masuka, the new Agriculture minister fired on-site the Bubi-Lupane Irrigation Project manager for alleged incompetence saying the same would befall officials who fail to meet the Government’s expectations in the transformation of the agriculture sector.
The state media which was covering the tour could however not establish the official’s name. Minister Masuka said the parastatal’s operations were not in sync with the Second Republic’s thrust of transforming the country’s economy through agriculture.
“I’m not happy with Arda’s performance, you are still in the past. Arda must wake up to the realities of the Second Republic and the President’s thrust of using agriculture as a vehicle for the attainment of vision 2030,” said Masuka giving the Arda official some marching orders.
He said Government had set minimum requirements for managing Arda irrigation sites.
By A Correspondent- The government said Victoria Falls is not yet safe in case the country experiences another wave of COVID-19 as the resort town’s health facilities are operating without oxygen tanks and negative pressure rooms which are key in the event of Covid-19..
The health scare was revealed during a tour of health facilities by Health and Child Care Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro in Victoria Falls early this week.
Dr Mangwiro toured the resort town in the company of chief director curative services in the Ministry Dr Maxwell Mareza Hove and Victoria Falls mayor Councillor Somveli Dlamini, ahead of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Wednesday visit to Victoria Falls.
“We don’t have an ICU for Covid-19 here and we are creating one now where we are going to have six ICU beds. But for it to be functional we need negative pressure which is also not available and I hear the whole province doesn’t have it. Funds for Covid-19 are readily available and can be accessed through the taskforce.
“The ICU is a specialised ward and negative pressure sucks out any infected air and takes it out where the virus is burnt and released after being rendered sterile. Nurses will refuse to work in an ICU if there is no negative pressure because they will get infected,” said Dr Mangwiro.
Dr Mangwiro said it was disastrous not to have a Covid-19 Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at Victoria Falls Hospital, whose oxygen is also stored in Hwange because of the lack of an oxygen tank.
The existing ICU has no oxygen outlets and a negative pressure room which Dr Mangwiro said was dangerous in the event of an emergency.
A negative pressure room sucks air with a virus and channels it out where it is burnt at high temperature and released into the atmosphere when it is sterile.
Dr Mangwiro said Victoria Falls Hospital should be well equipped to be able to deal with emergencies as a tourist destination.

Turkey-based Teenage Hadebe and Alec Mudimu are expected to arrive in the country this afternoon ahead of the Warriors’ Afcon Qualifiers against Botswana and Zambia this week.
The pair will join the rest of the team currently in camp in Harare.
France-based duo of Tino Kadewere and Marshall Munetsi are also expected to report for duty very soon. Their availability for the games was in doubt for the past week due coronavirus travelling restrictions, but the players were cleared to fly to Zimbabwe under strict conditions like using a private jet.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has disqualified Chad from the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to government interference in the running of the Federation of Chad Football Associations (FTFA).
The north-central African country’s government, through its Ministry of Sport, announced earlier this month that it was dissolving the current FTFA board.
The football association was barred from participating in the various international meetings and to organise or participate in any national or international competition or event on behalf of Chad.
But CAF has reacted to this move by banning the country from taking part in its events.
A statement by the continental football body reads: “Following the suspension of the CHAD Football Federation by the Chadian Ministry of Youth and Sports, CAF has decided to disqualify the National Team of CHAN from the qualifiers of Africa Cup of Nations 2021.”
Despite CAF’s decision, Chad had already failed to qualify for the next edition of AFCON. They were supposed to face Namibia and Mali this week in their final qualifying games of Group A and will now forfeit the two games as 3-0 losses.

United States-based goalkeeper Tatenda Mkuruva has rallied the Warriors ahead of their crucial AFCON qualifier against Botswana on Thursday.
The former Dynamos goalkeeper was set to make a come back to the Warriors fold for the first time since 2017 but his club did not permit him to travel to Zimbabwe due to Covid-19 restrictions.
He has however rallied Zdravko Logarusic’s men, who take on the Zebras in Francistown on Thursday before hosting Zambia in Harare on Monday.
“It’s actually an honour to play for your country. I can’t wait to play but not in the upcoming games and I was really looking forward to the games but unfortunately I cannot,” he told lifestyle tabloid H-Metro.

England-based Bafana Bafana striker Percy Tau has been allowed to travel to South Africa for the AFCON qualifiers set for this week.
The 26-year old Brighton & Hove Albion forward jetted into the Southern African country on Monday morning and joined his teammates in the camp.
His availability for national duty had been shrouded in uncertainty due to coronavirus travelling restrictions which has affected other African players like Marvelous Nakamba of Aston Villa.
An update by SAFA reads: “Good news for Bafana Bafana was the early arrival of star striker Percy Tau who plays in England for Brighton & Hove Albion. Tau jetted into the country on Monday morning and joined his teammates for some video analysis session.”
Tau has had minimal game time at the EPL side and if he features this week, it will be his first game in over six weeks.

Students from tertiary institutions across the country have castigated government for being insensitive to their plight.

At least one in three patients hospitalised with Covid-19 suffer long-term health issues including multiple organ problems and deteriorated mental health, according to a review of studies looking at the lasting impact of the disease.
Published in the journal Nature Medicine on Monday, the review looked at the frequency of symptoms among Covid-19 “long-haulers”, the most common of which include fatigue, shortness of breath, anxiety, depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder.
Authors of the research said the data pointed to an underappreciated health emergency that governments needed to study more closely and find ways to manage.
“Given the millions of people infected by SARS-CoV-2 globally, the long-term cost on physical, cognitive and mental aspects of health still remain to be seen,” lead author Kartik Sehgal, a medical oncologist at Boston’s Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, told AFP.
“We may be capturing only the tip of the iceberg.”
While severe Covid-19 infects patients’ lungs – leaving many with long-term breathing issues – studies have shown that the virus also attacks other organs, leading to a variety of complications including cardiovascular illness and chronic inflammation.
Sehgal and colleagues reviewed nine long-term studies from Europe, the United States and China and found that several patients reported multiple organ problems months after they were discharged from hospital.
Overall, they found that 30 percent of patients studied reported at least one symptom, such as fatigue, shortness of breath and psychiatric conditions.
One study in Italy of 143 patients found that nearly 90 percent reported lingering symptoms 60 days after they recovered from initial Covid-19 infection.
The most common symptoms were fatigue (53.1percent), shortness of breath (43.4 percent), joint pain (27.3 percent) and chest pain (21.7 percent).
In total, more than half of patients experienced multiple symptoms two months after leaving hospital.
Three studies from France, Britain and China showed that between 25-30 percent of patients reported sleep disturbances weeks after recovering from Covid-19.
And approximately 20 percent of patients had reported hair loss, according to results from multiple studies.
The results regarding mental health were perhaps equally concerning.
In a cohort of 402 survivors in Italy one month after they were hospitalised, 56 percent tested positive for at least one psychiatric condition such as PTSD, depression or anxiety.
The authors said that around 30 percent of patients had developed PTSD after being hospitalised with Covid-19.
“It is important to not forget about the mental health effects of long-Covid-19, while taking care of the physical symptoms, as they can be easily missed,” said Sehgal, who is also an instructor at Harvard Medical School.
The researchers called for further investigation into long-Covid-19, and the wider establishment of clinics to treat people with lingering, life-altering symptoms.
Sehgal said he hoped the research showed that simply surviving Covid-19 is not necessarily a satisfactory health outcome.
“Although preventing deaths remains the most important goal, it is also important to recognise the multi-organ morbidity of Covid-19,” he said.
“The medical needs of patients with Covid-19 don’t stop at the time of hospital discharge and they also don’t necessarily stop after three to four weeks.”-AFP
Former Zimbabwe Farmers’ Development Company (ZFDC) chairperson Edward Raradza and his son, Mathew, who were facing allegations of defrauding the institution of US$494 423 meant for farming implements, were today freed by a Harare magistrate.
The pair were freed after the State agreed to have them removed from further remand saying it would proceed by way of summons.
Edward and Mathew Raradza were freed by Harare regional magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje.
Allegations against the duo were that on July 9, 2009, Finwood Investments received farming implements worth US$497 649 through a credit facility from ZFDC.
On June 11, 2012, Raradza and his son allegedly acting in common purpose and without the company’s resolution, reduced Finwood Investment debt to US$500 000 after it had ballooned to US$597 844 due to interest and penalties.
On June 16 of the same year, Raradza allegedly deposited the US$500 000 into ZFDC’s BancABC account
Further allegations were that on the same day, the two allegedly took US$494 423 and transferred it into Coachcard Investments’ account to clear their private company’s debt with BancABC.
Coachcard Investments is said to be owned by Raradza and his wife Julie.
The offence came to light in March 2014 after the Auditor-General’s report.
Investigations led to Raradza and Mathew’s arrest.
Raradza and his son were also freed on another charge in which they allegedly defrauded ZFDC of $10 million which was meant for farming implements from China for its members.
It was being alleged that sometime in 2005, ZFDC was tasked to source agricultural equipment from China on behalf of eligible farmers through a credit facility.
Each farmer was supposed to pay 10 percent deposit to the company.
Between 2005 and 2010, ZFDC received farming equipment on credit through China Export and Import Bank valued at $60 million.
Allegations against the pair were that after receiving the equipment, which was guaranteed by Government, they stole it from ZFDC.

MDC Alliance co-vice-president Tendai Biti says his purported recall, together with several other MPs, at the behest of a “political nonentity” Benjamin Rukanda, who once belonged to his breakaway People’s Democratic Party (PDP) before leaving for other parties, is a political fraud.
Biti said Rukanda is being used by his political opponents in Zanu-PF and its allied opposition parties to destabilise the MDC Alliance as was the case with MDC-T, first under Thokozani Khupe and now Douglas Mwonzora, fighting them.
Rukanda wrote a letter to Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda purporting to recall Biti and other senior MDC Alliance MPs linked to PDP even though he has no political, hierarchical or legal basis to do.
“I don’t really know much about Rukanda. He was at provincial level before the party split ahead of the 2018 elections; with Lucia Matibenga and Gorden Moyo supporting Joice Mujuru and us going back to back Morgan Tsvangirai,” said Biti.
“He is not PDP secretary-general. We don’t know him. He is fake. So how can he recall MPs from other parties? In any case, this issue is still before the courts. So it’s not possible to recall anyone when you are not a member of a party and while the issue is still in the courts. So obviously, this fraud will be challenged.”
In 2015, Biti and his allies broke away from MDC-T then led by Tsvangirai, the original MDC founding leader, and formed PDP. However, towards the 2018 elections, PDP split over the issue of going back to support Tsvangirai or backing Mujuru who had been expelled from Zanu-PF in 2014.
Matibenga and Moyo – who was PDP secretary-general – supported Mujuru, while Biti and other MDC formations like the Welshman Ncube party backed Tsvangirai. Mujuru led the People’s Rainbow Coalition.
After Moyo left, PDP appointed Mbizo MP Settlement Chikwinya as secretary-general up to this day.
However, Rukanda, who purported to be PDP secretary-general, a position currently held by Chikwinya, this week wrote a letter to Mudenda recalling Biti who is Harare East MP, William Madzimure (Kambuzuma), Kucaca Phulu (Nkulumane), Sichelesile Mahlangu (Pumula), Regai Tsunga (Mutasa South) from parliament and Chikwinya.
Chikwinya, the real PDP secretary-general, said it was legally not possible for Rukanda to recall any PDP official from parliament as he was not a member of the party and, even then, before the split he was merely a provincial official.
“Rukanda was a provincial member for Masvingo when the PDP was still united. Ahead of the elections, the likes of Rukanda joined the PRC led by Mujuru, but we contested under the MDC Alliance. Those who joined PRC said they had fundamental differences with Tsvangirai and could not work with him, but we swallowed our pride and joined the alliance, which means legally they cannot recall us because we are not part of them and they never sponsored us to be MPs in the first place,” Chikwinya said.
“So legally it’s impossible for them to recall us, but politically we know they are being sponsored by Zanu-PF to destabilise our party. In this case, Zanu-PF looked for a willing tool and they found one in Rukanda. This is a Zanu-PF agenda, we know that.-Newshawks
Harare West legislator Joana Mamombe and her two accomplices Cecelia Chimbiri and Takudzwa Ngadziore will spend two more nights in prison after High Court judge, Justice Tawanda Chitapi deferred delivery of his ruling on their bail appeals to Thursday at 1000 hours.
The trio who were denied bail by Magistrate Vongai Guwuriro, appealed against her decision at the High Court and now await ruling by Justice Chitapi.
They are represented by Jeremiah Bhamu, Alec Muchadehama and Charles Kwaramba from the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

I was back in court today on allegations of resisting an arrest/ Assault (sickening charge) that the law and order Officer was again claiming did not have an order to arrest myself, Prof Madhuku and others who were part of the presser which was adressed by Hon Joana Ruvimbo Mamombe in solidarity with Makomborero Haruzivishe.
It is sad to note that after a whole week of unlawful detention from the 5th- 11th of March the State was not ready to furnish us with the trial date .
The State is requesting more time to take the docket back to Central for proper preparation and submission of a full docket for use by the court.
All this clearly justifies our call for resignation of Matanga whose leading a rotten institution that doesn’t respect proper equality of the law and respect of human rights.
Lastly was glad to interact with Zinasu Zinasu student leaders, Falon Dunga Allan Chipoyi Pritchard T Paradzayi Glown Magaya who were jointly charged of demostrating against the illegal arrest and detention of Pres Takudzwa Ngadziore.
