False Start To Trial Of Killer Man Who Shot A Nyamandhlovu Farmer

THE trial of a man who allegedly fatally stabbed Zanu-PF member and Nyamandlovu farmer Cde Steward Sweet Sweet with a screw driver before shooting him on the head two years got off to a false start once again as the defence wants a pathologist to testify in the matter.

Cde Sweet Sweet’s body was found in a car with a C2 pistol in his right hand while he had stab wounds on the head and bleeding from the left ear in March 2019 in Nyamandlovu commercial farming area.

It is suspected that the killers may have allegedly used the deceased’s personal pistol to shoot him to make it appear as if he had committed suicide, but defence lawyer Mr Elvis Mashindi of Mashindi and Associates has argued against it saying there were no gunshot wounds on the body.

The lawyer wants a pathologist to testify in court and Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Martin Makonese who was on circuit in Hwange last week rolled the case over to the next circuit to allow the State to invite a pathologist.

The alleged attacker Martin Chipande (38) of Number 15 Vusanani Cooperative, Umguzane Farm in Umguza has been in custody since his arrest in 2019 as the trial has failed to take off during successive circuit sittings.

He unsuccessfully applied for bail last year when he had claimed his two minor children were alone after his wife passed on.

In November 2019, Chipande was not tried because of limited time and the case was rolled over to 2020 when trial also failed to kick off.

Cde Sweet Sweet, a Nyamandlovu farmer, was 56 when he was allegedly killed about three kilometres away from his farm in Nyamandlovu before passersby discovered his body.

He had visited Chipande’s place of residence during the day on 26 March 2019 to collect a debt which the accused owed him.

He allegedly returned at night intending to see the accused’s stepdaughter Beatrice Moyo who was aged 18 when a misunderstanding ensued as Chipande accused him of being a thief, resulting in the murder.

Allegations against Chipande are that on 26 March 2019 at night he stabbed Cde Sweet Sweet severally on the head with a screw driver following a dispute in which he accused the now deceased of being a thief.

It is alleged that Cde Sweet Sweet had entered Ms Moyo’s bedroom when Chipande confronted him.

The deceased left going to his farm and Chipande allegedly mobilised some neighbours Mr Soul Dube and Mr Ngqabutho Nyoni as they followed him intending to beat him up. Cde Sweet Sweet was then found dead in the morning.

ED Sends Hearty Congratulations To New Tanzanian President

President Mnangagwa yesterday congratulated new Tanzanian President Samia Suluhu Hassan after she was sworn in on Friday following the death of President John Magufuli.

President Hassan became the East African country’s first female President. In a statement, President Mnangagwa reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s position to continue working with the East African country to further strengthen and broaden the two countries’ relations.

“On behalf of the Government and people of Zimbabwe and indeed on my behalf, I wish to convey to you, Your Excellency, hearty congratulations on your swearing in as President of Tanzania. Your Excellency and Dear Sister, as you assume this important office, allow me to note with satisfaction the excellent long-standing relations that exist between our two countries which were born during the days of our struggle for liberation and self-determination. Let me assure you of my unwavering commitment to continue working with you to further strengthen and broaden these excellent relations for the mutual benefit of our two countries and peoples,” said President Mnangagwa.

The President emphasised his readiness to work with President Hassan in Sadc, to enhance regional integration and in the African Union to achieve the goals of Agenda 2063 and other multilateral fora for peace, security and development.

“I wish you, Your Excellency, personal good health and success, and peace and prosperity for the friendly people of the United Republic of Tanzania,” said President Mnangagwa.

President Hassan ascended to the Presidency after President Magufuli’s death due to a heart disease was announced by the Government last Wednesday. According to Tanzania’s constitution, the Vice-President serves out the remainder of the term of a President who dies in office. President Magufuli, who was first elected in 2015, secured a second five-year term in elections last year in October. The constitution also states that after consultation with their party, the new President will propose a deputy, the choice to be confirmed by the votes of no fewer than 50 per cent of the National Assembly.

President Mnangagwa described the late President of Tanzania as a dedicated Pan-Africanist who championed the removal of illegal sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the West. He was speaking during a handover ceremony of a utility bus he donated to Zvishavane Vocational Training Centre at State House in Harare yesterday. The President will today travel to the east African country where he will join fellow Sadc leaders attending the funeral of the late Statesman ahead of his burial tomorrow.

“It was very sad news, it came as a huge shock to me personally because of my personal relationship with the late President Magufuli. He was supportive of Zimbabwe. We have been under sanctions for two decades but when he became Sadc chairperson, he is the one who proposed that as the Sadc region, we must take a stand (against the sanctions). Under his chairmanship, 25 October was set aside as a day on each year that the bloc will protest against the sanctions and that they must be lifted by those who imposed them against us.”

In 2019, the Sadc Heads of State and Government summit in Dar es Salaam proclaimed 25 October as a day of solidarity with Zimbabwe against sanctions, with regional countries committing to hold events annually on the day in their respective countries, until the punitive measures are lifted.

The bloc’s secretariat was tasked to co-ordinate a regional drive, through its diplomatic channels, to exert pressure on the West to relent and remove the sanctions. President Mnangagwa described President Magufuli as a great friend of Zimbabwe whose death will be felt throughout the region.

“He will be interred on Monday so I was called by my colleagues, the first colleague who called was the President of Mozambique (Filipe Nyusi) last night, so we are going to meet in Tanzania. Thereafter my brother (South African President) Cyril Ramaphosa also phoned and we agreed we will meet there. After that my brother (President of Botswana) Mokgweetsi Masisi phoned and we are going to meet there too. I’m expecting a call from (Namibian President) Hage Geingob and I think he is going to convey the same message. So I think most of the Sadc Presidents will be in Dodoma on Monday.”

Meanwhile, Youth, Sports, Arts and Recreation Minister Kirsty Coventry has hailed President Mnangagwa for donating a bus to Zvishavane Vocational Training Centre.

“It’s huge, the last time the President came to the Zvishavane VTC, he asked if there was anything the Vocational Training Centre needed and we very much needed a bus so he said he would reach out to the private sector and today we have seen the handover of a much bigger bus which is really incredible,” she said.

Drivers And Conductors Stealing Millions From ZUPCO

Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) has had a torrid time trying to prevent their staffers from dipping their sticky fingers in the cash till.
Pilfering has become so pervasive that the company has since roped in the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) instead of relying on internal investigators.

It is believed that a corrupt network of drivers, conductors, cashiers and the loss control team has been systematically siphoning funds from the company’s coffers.

At least 450 employees have been fired for financial impropriety over the last four months. More workers are in the line of fire as investigations continue.

“My friend and fellow driver was fired after being found guilty of overcharging commuters. He was assisting passengers with his tap card for a fee since most Zupco buses no longer accept cash payments,” said a driver identified as Mr Mhere, who plies the Chitungwiza route.

“It was not his fault though. Most commuters do not have tap cards and force us to use personal cards for their convenience. We cannot do that for free as our jobs will be on the line. It is not allowed.”

Most Zupco buses have migrated from cash payments to the convenient tap-and-go card system that is ostensibly foolproof and designed to eliminate theft.

But some of the parastatal’s employees discovered a loophole in the system, which they are still using to line their pockets.

“I rarely use Zupco buses, hence don’t see the need to have a tap card. But each time I make use of public transport, I pay the conductors in cash,” said Mr Edmund Mudzamiri.

In some instances, the bus crew charges a commission when they “assist” commuters with their tap cards.

For instance, commuters pay $50 cash for a 20-kilometre trip that ordinarily is pegged at $30 by the transport utility or $100 for a trip legally pegged at $60 when using a commuter omnibus. In this case, it is both the commuters and Zupco that are prejudiced.

There are also instances where the tap-card machine is tampered with, which allows the bus crew to declare any figure they wish at the depot. Money that would have been paid in cash is converted to personal use.

“We have been receiving reports of conductors and other criminals taking advantage of those who do not have tap-and-go cards, collecting and pocketing cash from them and then use their own cards to tap for huge amounts,” said Zupco chief executive officer Mr Evaristo Madangwa.

“zupco is now working with the ZRP, through the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), to unearth the rot within the organisation.”

Touts that have resurfaced at most ranks after the relaxation of the lockdown are further making it increasingly difficult to maintain discipline.

“Through our investigations, we have also noted the other culprits are touts working in cahoots with some Zupco employees. However, we have devised a way to deal with them,” added Mr Madangwa. “Some of the passengers are to blame. They beg conductors to tap for them in exchange for cash, hence we cannot be entirely responsible. If commuters and other relevant stakeholders join hands, we will not have these challenges.”

Investigations by The Sunday Mail Society indicate that the parastatal has lost millions of dollars to fraudulent schemes in the past year. Most of the cases are being reported in Harare, Bulawayo and Mutare.

“There was an internal audit late last year that revealed the company could have been prejudiced of more than $2,5 million due to different forms of fraud mainly involving bus crews. While the focus is on the tap-card scam, fuel is also being stolen by these bus crews,” revealed a source who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The haemorrhage is threatening the Government’s commitment to revamp the mass public transport operator.

“What these people are doing is criminal and punishable. The proactive stance we have taken is yielding positive results. Already, several conductors have been fired while some identified culprits are also set to lose their jobs,” warned Mr Madangwa.

The tap-and-go card system has had to be continuously adapted to improve its security. In Bulawayo and other towns, Zupco has had to reintroduce the old ticketing system. Harare Institute of Technology (HIT) director of technology, licensing and commercialisation centre Dr Talon Garikayi, who oversaw the development of the system, admitted there was a crisis.

“There is a new system that we developed after some problems with the existing one. We are continuously upgrading it until it becomes foolproof. The new invention is a panacea to the current crisis,” he said.

“ . . . unfortunatelyZupco employees do not know that we have been monitoring their activities, even with the old system. This is how most of them have been caught and subsequently fired.”

The upgraded electronic ticketing system is currently being rolled out. It was installed in all the 50 new Zupco buses that were recently commissioned. The new system limits the tap-card use to one passenger every 15 minutes.

The tap-and-go card system installed in all new Zupco buses has had to be continuously adapted to improve its security.

“From our investigations, it takes a bus between 10 to 12 minutes to load at the terminus. This means it will be difficult, if not impossible, for the bus crew or touts to tap for several commuters due to the 15 minutes waiting period,” said Mr Garikayi.

However, the new system comes with challenges for those traveling as a family.

“The official position is that tap cards are acquired for free at any of the Zupco booths. They are never out of stock; therefore, there is no reason for anyone to say they do not have one,” he added.

“As for tap-card top-up, we also upgraded to enable that to be done via bank or mobile money transfer services as a way to embrace digital currency.”

Zupco has lately been grappling to maintain its fleet as some franchise operators pulled out due to backlogs in payments, including allegedly setting “unrealistic” daily targets.

“Operators under the Zupco franchise are supposed to be paid on a fortnight basis but they (Zupco) were defaulting. We could go up to a month or two without payment. I had four of my vehicles under the franchise but I pulled out. I have two outstanding payments with them a month or so after withdrawing,” said one operator.

In response, Mr Madangwa said: “Some operators have left but an exercise to replace them is underway, hence we did not feel the gap. “Also, we are working on clearing our arrears with the operators in the shortest possible time.”

As of last week, Zupco had 724 buses and 758 commuter omnibuses under its franchise countrywide.

Govt Set To Award Civil Servants A 75 Percent Salary Increment

STATE MEDIA: Government will table an improved 75 percent salary increment offer for civil servants when negotiations for a new pay deal resume this week.

Cabinet has approved a staggered 75 percent pay increment offer for civil servants, with authorities ready to effect a 25 percent salary bump this month, which will be followed by a 50 percent pay increase in June.

Public sector worker representatives rejected the initial 25 percent during the last round of negotiations a fortnight ago before the talks adjourned to allow for consultations.

The National Joint Negotiating Council (NJNC) — the body under which the Government discusses conditions of service with its workers — is expected to convene this week for the latest round of talks.

Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima told The Sunday Mail that the Government was currently in a position to only offer a 25 percent salary increment.

“We are still consulting within the Government to see how best we can handle the situation with workers. I will be briefing Cabinet on the situation soon,” said Minister Mavima.

“But what we are offering, which is what Cabinet has also agreed to, is that we give them a 75 percent salary increment between now and June. “The 25 percent will come now and 50 percent in June.

“So we will be having our NJNC meeting soon and we will know then if they accept it or not, but we are positive.”

Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (ZCPSTU) secretary-general Mr David Dzatsunga said the Government was yet to communicate its latest offer.

“Well the latest offer has not yet been communicated to us officially, but we always consult with our members first should such an offer be tabled,” said Mr Dzatsunga.

“What we have always said is that we have not yet reached a point of industrial action, we are giving dialogue a chance and we are still in negotiations with the Government.

“For now, we are waiting for the Government to come up with a better offer than the 25 percent they came up with the last time.

“Our only misgiving is that the Government is taking too long to come up with another offer yet workers are genuinely incapacitated.”

The latest offer will come as teachers go back to school under Phase Two of schools’ opening, which covers all classes that are not sitting for public examinations this year. Examination classes opened without incident last week amid fears of industrial action by some teacher unions.

Worker representatives have been demanding implementation of Covid-19 safety protocols and provision of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for teachers when schools open, aside from their salary increment demands.

Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education director of communication and advocacy, Mr Taungana Ndoro, said all was set for the opening of schools under Phase Two. He said the Government had acquired enough PPE for teachers and staff.

“We have had a successful opening week with both teachers and pupils reporting for classes,” Mr Ndoro said.

“Preparations for the second phase opening are going on quite well. We are still in negotiations with teachers pertaining their remuneration and the larger teacher unions have indicated that their members will attend classes while negotiations go on.

“Vaccination of teachers has already started and the process is also going on quite well.” Zimbabwe Teachers Association (zimta) chief executive officer Dr Sifiso Ndlovu said teachers were ready to return to work.

“We know that the mindset of the educators and the mindset of the learners is geared towards education,” said Dr Ndlovu during a programme on ZTN Television last week. “In our consultations with union members, we have found it very necessary to have the in-person learning resuscitated in our schools despite the numerous challenges that are still there.

“So, yes we are ready as teachers and pupils, our mindset is geared for the opening, but there are a lot of things which are still required for us to have an ideal environment.

“We still need to do a wide distribution of PPE especially for rural schools as well as giving teachers’ demands serious attention.

“We want to continue putting in strategies that will motivate both the learner and teacher so we can go to work while the Government is addressing our concerns.”

Chamisa Plots Massive Fight Back Over Recall Of Legislators

MDC Alliance says it plans to respond to the controversial ongoing recalls of its legislators from Parliament with protests as it accuses President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government of engineering the chaos.

Former Finance minister Tendai Biti, who is also MDC Alliance deputy president, became one of the biggest victims of the recalls  after the Lucia Matibenga-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was allowed to recall  six legislators.

Other recalled MPs were Willias Madzimure (Kambuzuma), Settlement Chikwinya (Mbizo), Kucaca Phulu (Nkulumane), Sichelesile Mahlangu (Pumula), and Regai Tsunga (Mutasa South), who were all once PDP members.

That brought the number of recalled legislators since last year to 48.

Others were recalled by the Douglas Mwonzora-led MDC-T after they refused to back his formation and insisted they were members of the MDC Alliance party.

Mwonzora has been accused of working with Mnangagwa’s government to cripple the Nelson Chamisa-led opposition, which has refused to recognise the Zanu PF leader’s 2018 election victory.

Clifford Hlatywayo, the MDC Alliance spokesperson, said they will protest against alleged abuse of state institutions such as Parliament, courts and the police.

“Right now people are mobilising each other for a citizen convergence for change,” Hlatywayo said.

“It’s about the people, not the looting elite in a dying party Zanu PF.

“Zanu PF can’t survive on its own without abusing state institutions, and in fact it’s non-existent.

“I challenge them face to face, no police, no soldiers, no courts, no state funds, no government inputs, no abusing of government ministries, no guns etc. They are dead.”

He said the recalling of opposition MPs was a continuation of the manipulation of the outcome of the 2018 elections.

“This regime is illegitimate, it crooked it’s way to the state house, using the Supreme Court, Zimbabwe Election Commission, military and other institutions of the state,” Hlatywayo said.

“It’s not the product of the people by the people, so whatever it does is not for the people.

“Making people suffer is a lubricant to this illegitimate regime.

“That’s why it’s illegally recalling the people’s representatives in councils and Parliament.”

He added: “But it’s plot has been exposed.

“The people are speaking and in the  near future their voices will be louder.”

Mnangagwa’s government has in the past dealt ruthlessly with dissent, claiming that its rivals want to seize power illegally.

Report: Surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 in Zimbabwe shows dominance of variants of concern

Prospective surveillance of SARS-CoV-2 by genome sequencing in Zimbabwe between December, 2020, and January, 2021 (the period of the so-called second wave), has identified that variants with concerning mutations are prevalent in sequenced samples.

In December, 2020, 95 (89%) of 107 sequenced cases contained mutations of concern, rising to 102 (98%) of 104 in January, 2021.

The identified variants included the previously reported B.1.351 (501Y.V2) and A.23.1 variants, along with a novel variant under investigation (C.2).

The B.1.1.7, B.1.525, P.1, and P.2 and variants were not identified in Zimbabwe.

Variants with concerning mutations have all replaced previously identified lineages in Zimbabwe (appendix).

Firstly, the B.1.351 variant of concern, originally identified in South Africa, accounted for 74 (69%) of 107 sequenced cases in December, 2020, and 99 (95%) of 104 sequenced cases in January, 2021.

The population structure was consistent with multiple separate introductions. Zimbabwe is the second country other than South Africa to report B.1.351 as the dominant variant to date.

As in other countries, this variant has been associated with increased transmissibility, resulting in overwhelmed health-care systems and in higher mortality than the first wave (appendix).

Secondly, the A.23.1 variant of concern, first reported in Uganda, was observed in 3 (3%) of 107 sequenced cases in December, but was not observed in 104 sequenced cases in January.

Thirdly, a variant designated C.2 and containing a spike protein mutation (N501T) that was previously reported in another lineage of SARS-CoV-2 found in mink was present in Zimbabwe in both December, 2020, and January, 2021. N501T is thought to improve ACE2 receptor binding in mink.

A mutation in the same location, N501Y, is associated with increased transmissibility in humans.

In December, 2020, 18 (15%) of 117 of cases were found to be of the C.2 variant, whereas in January, 2021, this number fell to 3 (3%) of 104.

Phylogenetic analysis of international genomes of the C.2 variant indicated that they were interspersed with C.2 genomes from Zimbabwean cases, indicating that Zimbabwe was a possible source. In conclusion, variants with concerning mutations identified in December, 2020, and January, 2021, have replaced previously identified lineages in Zimbabwe.

This observation highlights the importance of global surveillance by whole-genome sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 to identify sources and transmission routes, and to provide supporting evidence for policy decisions.

City Council Defends High Rates

MASVINGO City Council has defended its rates arguing that the money was needed to cover for the costs to provide potable water, roads maintenance and for the smooth flow of refuse collection.

The local authority has been under siege from residents who are protesting the latest rates that have resulted in residents in high density suburbs being billed an average of $2 600 per month from $472 that was charged from last year.

In a statement to the ratepayers, acting Town Clerk Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa said the rates were meant to ensure that the city provides services that meet minimum standards.

“Council wishes to reiterate that the spirit of the increases now as at the time of consultation remains the same and this is to ensure that residents enjoy clean water supply, have street lights, roads are good and well maintained, refuse is collected regularly, fire brigade is well equipped, council schools are well-equipped and the clinics have adequate medicine.

“Masvingo City Council like any other local authority is a non-profit making institution and charges for services are therefore based on cost-recovery model and every service charge is justified by a cost build-up. The intention of the increase is therefore to cover costs for provision of proper services to the residents.”

Eng Mukaratirwa said the budget was forwarded to Government for approval following consultations between council and the residents towards the end of last year and the objections that were received were attended to and recommendations were made to the Minister before the approval of the budget. The new rates were approved by the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Cde July Moyo when he approved the city’s budget for this year.

Meanwhile, following the repair and commissioning of the transformers at Bushmead Water Works the local authority has lifted the water consumption reprieve to 2 864 residents with stuck meters.

“Council has seen it fit to reduce estimated water consumption volumes by 50 percent to consumers with stuck meters. This is in response to reduced production levels at Bushmead Water Works.- The Sunday News

Malaba’s Court Denies Marry Chiwenga Her Passport

Luke Malaba

The Supreme Court has thrown out Marry Mubaiwa’s application to get her passport back to travel to South Africa for medical treatment, saying she is likely to abscond trial.

Marry Mubaiwa

Mubaiwa is facing multiple charges of attempting to kill her ex-husband, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, assaulting her maid, money laundering and fraud involving more than US$1 million.

She had approached the Supreme Court seeking relaxation of her bail conditions through contesting an earlier High Court decision turning down her bid to get her passport.

Mubaiwa wanted her passport back and suspension of a bail condition compelling her to report at Borrowdale Police Station every fortnight. While the highest court of appeal accepted evidence that Mubaiwa was unwell and required specialist treatment, it ruled that a mere undertaking that she would stand trial, without alternative forms of security, failed to convince the bench.

She is suffering from an ailment known as lymphoedema, which causes swelling of hands and legs.

Justice Tendai Uchena said evidence produced in court shows Mubaiwa had strong connections in South Africa and it was risky to free her without other forms of security to convince the court that she will not abscond.

“The appeal is dismissed with no order as to costs. An applicant for variation of bail conditions in circumstances where variation removes the safeguards intended to ensure that he or she will stand trial, must offer other forms of security in substitution of those to be suspended if variation is to be granted.

“If the bail conditions are temporarily altered without substitution, they will severely weaken the possibility of her standing trial. The appellant did not offer any security in substitution of the conditions to be varied,” said Justice Uchena.

The appeal court considered reports that Mubaiwa bought two houses and other properties in South Africa from proceeds of the crimes committed, hence chances of her absconding could not be ruled out.

“In this case, the appellant is alleged to have bought two houses in South Africa. She is alleged to have bought three motor vehicles, two of which were registered in her name in South Africa. She is alleged to be the sole shareholder of her South African company. She is alleged to have furnished one of the houses she bought in South Africa. Charges preferred against her are serious. The strength of the charges preferred against her offers a strong incentive for her to abscond,” said Justice Uchena.

Mubaiwa is accused of sending her driver Carrington Kazingizi and Terrence Mutandwa to China with US$114 000 without making a declaration to authorities.

She is alleged to have sent US$230 769 to South Africa and purchased a Range Rover and Ford Ranger. She is accused of externalising US$36 923,08 to purchase furniture for her South African house at Number 1309 Kingstone Heath Close, Waterkloof Golf Estate, Pretoria. It is alleged that an additional US$201 846 was sent to South Africa disguised as funds to purchase event tents and chairs for a local business but the money was later used to buy a Range Rover Autobiography, which was registered in Mubaiwa’s name.

Mubaiwa is accused of transferring US$307 545 from CBZ Bank into a South African bank account, which was used to buy a house in Pretoria registered in the name of Mubaiwa’s company called LaChelle Travel & Tours. Sunday Mail

28 Zapu Members Have Reportedly Defected to Zanu PF

ZANU PF Matabeleland South province has admitted 28 members of ZAPU, saying the defections are a clear testimony that Zanu PF is a people centred party.

Zanu PF’s norms, values, ideology, guiding principles and people centred policies have continued to see the revolutionary party winning the hearts of many, including former opposition party members.

The latest group to have a change of heart are 28 members of ZAPU, who followed in the footstep of their provincial chairperson, Mike Masiye who rejoined the revolutionary party last month.

Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Simon khaya Moyo, who was in Gwanda for a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting, said it was the wish of late father Zimbabwe, Dr Joshua Nkomo for the revolutionary to remain a united and formidable.

“Zanu PF came as a result of Zanu pf and pf Zapu , and the late vice president had said we should remain in Zanu pf no matter what . It is unfortunate that some decided to leave the party , but that is water under the bridge now. As Zanu pf we want everyone to come back because we are a people ‘s party,” he said.

Turning to the newly elected District Coordinating Committees, Ambassador Khaya Moyo stressed the need for the critical organs to adhere to the party‘s constitution.

“If you are the chairperson of the DCC or a member of committee and you have not acquainted yourself with the constitution of the party then you should not be holding that position. We expect our leaders to guide people in the right direction and you can only do so when you follow our constitutional document in letter and in spirit,” said the National Spokesperson

Zanu PF Provincial Chairperson, Cde Rabelani Choene reminded party leaders of the important role they have to play in ensuring a resounding victory in the 2023 elections.

“As you are all aware the goal is to get to five million votes in the next elections, so as Matabeleland south we should be seen contributing meaningfully to achieving that goal,” he emphasised.

The district co-ordinating committees, which were meeting for the first time since being elected in December last year, were also tasked to spearhead projects and programmes that are aimed at economically empowering the people in line with vision 2030.

Schools will open for all classes tomorrow, with the Government giving the greenlight to the alternating approach to learning that will see some pupils attending school for only two days per week to limit numbers as per the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP).
According to the SOP, classes must not have more than 35 pupils and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has given the nod to individual schools to reduce and alternate classes to ensure there is a limited number of pupils per class at a particular time.

As was done last year, this could see some schools allowing pupils to only attend classes two days per week, spend three days learning from home and then rotate in the following week. Responding to questions from Sunday News, director of communications and advocacy in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Taungana Ndoro said alternating and hot sitting classes will depend on each individual school’s capacity.

“This depends on the school, some need to alternate, some don’t. Our SOPs instruct that we have not more than 35 learners per class. But the less the better. As for actual teacher establishment, let’s wait for schools to open and then we assess,” said Mr Ndoro.

He said the Government will this week assess the available teachers at schools so as to come up with the actual teacher establishment and the required personnel in the sector. This year the Government recruited 3 000 teachers in the country and approved 600 lateral transfers to the Harare and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces.

Among the new recruitments, specialist teachers in the indigenous languages of Shangani, Tonga, Venda and Nambya were also employed as Government moves to affirm its position on the teaching of these languages.

Commenting on the state of affairs in schools as the rest of classes open tomorrow, Zimbabwe Teachers Association (Zimta) chief executive officer Dr Sifiso Ndlovu said the alternating classes strategy was the best route to take as it would help protect learners and teachers from the pandemic. He said the Government must ensure adequate availability of Personal Protective Equipment at schools.

“At the present circumstances of Covid-19 alternating classes is the best way to go because we do not have the classroom space to cater for the reduced number of learners per class as guided by the SOPs. What we now need to do for us to complement these alternating classes is to come up with a robust programme of distance learning and cyber learning. The reality is that this pandemic is now with us hence we must come up with means of ensuring the education sector still operates,” said Dr Ndlovu.

Meanwhile, the Government will cascade teacher vaccination to provinces and districts in a bid to have all teachers being inoculated as schools open tomorrow. Vaccination of teachers started in Harare Province last week. This is the second stage of the national vaccination programme against Covid-19 where teachers, the elderly and people with underlying conditions are to get vaccinated. Health and Child Care Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro said every teacher in the country was going to get a jab.

“Our programmes have started here in Harare, but we are moving down to other provinces in the country and districts too. Harare was just a central point where we started and we will take it from there, moving outside the province,” he said.

Dr Mangwiro said the vaccination programme was going to pick up pace as more sectors were being included in the initiative.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Council of Churches secretary general Reverend Dr Kenneth Mtata said the church was rallying behind the vaccination programme.

“The last few weeks we have been consulting with church leaders and with medical professionals for us to have a deeper understanding of the vaccine and all the challenges and risks associated with it. We have concluded that this vaccine could be useful in protecting people from the Covid-19 virus therefore we are encouraging people to get vaccinated. I have been vaccinated myself and I am calling upon all our clergy and church leaders to get vaccinated,” he said.

Rev Dr Mtata said arrangements are being made to ensure church leaders are vaccinated in convenient places and times. Treasury has set aside US$100 million for the procurement of vaccines that will see 10 million of the population being inoculated in order to achieve herd immunity. -Sunday News

The Youth Must Rise …… .. to the national challenge

By Luke Tamborinyoka

The census scheduled for later this year will yet again confirm that the youth as a demographic group constitute the majority of the country’s population. As we stand on the cusp of the decisive phase of our democratic struggle, this generation whose future has been squandered by the clueless and corrupt elite in government must stand up and play a more prominent role in positively shaping their lived circumstances and their future.

Throughout history and across jurisdictions, it is the youth that have stood up to the mediocrity of their time and engendered truly new dispensations that infused a renewed sense of hope about the future. Across the world, young people have always been the torch-bearers in the unstinting quest for freedom, democracy, decency and dignity.

It was the young people in Zimbabwe that took up arms and confronted the colonial Smith regime. But times have changed. Today’s youth may have to robustly use other arsenal such as the soft power of their twitter and blog universe to express their utmost revulsion against the deteriorating human rights and governance system in the country.

In Tunisia in 2011, it was 26-year old Mohamed Bouazizi who ignited the revolution that reaped a democratic dividend for an entire sub-region. On the 14th of January the same year, dictator Ben Ali had no choice but to flee to Saudi Arabia.

It was equally these young people that led similarly popular but morally legitimate protests in Yemen, Jordan, Algeria and Oman in what became popularly known as the Arab Spring.

On 25 January 2011, droves of mainly young people numbering about 50 000 poured into Tahrii Square in downtown Cairo in a huge mass protest against Hosni Mubarak.

It was similarly audacious young men and women who perished for a legitimate quest at Sharpeville in apartheid South Africa. It was the same revolutionary generation that tore down the Berlin Wall. It was young people that stoically stood before the armed taunt at Tiananmen Square in China in June 1989.

The youth have always been a revolutionary generation; a generation that neither accepts nor tolerates killer regimes such as the illegitimate lot in Harare. A regime dripping in the blood of innocent citizens. An autocracy that has captured all institutions of the State as part of a wicked, sinister and morally reprehensible plot to decimate the legitimate opposition in the country.

In Zimbabwe, the young generation of short skirts and sagging jeans must step up to the plate. The short skirts are reflective of the shortened life expectancy and the short-sightedness of their leaders, if not the abundant opportunities that have skirted the young generation. And it is not just their jeans that are sagging, but their hopes and aspirations as well!

For the youth of this country, the horizon has been misted by a clueless government that couped its way into office amid a false clamour of creating jobs under the equally false mantra of ” Zimbabwe is Open for Business .” Yet the country is shut for hope—with the only jobs created being those for Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Karanga tribesmen and tribeswomen from Masvingo and the Midlands provinces.

As I said last week, even the staggered, choreographed defections have a tribal and regional flavour to them. Only 48 hours ago, Obert Gutu, a Karanga of the Madyirapazhe totem who comes from the Gutu area of Masvingo and James Mzkore, of Mnangagwa’s Shumba Murambwi totem and who like him also comes from Chivi, defected from Douglas Mwonzora’s surrogate and treacherous outfit to Zanu-PF. Mwonzora’s outfit is essentially Zanu PF and one wonders what the “defection” hype was all about. You don’t defect from Zanu-PF to Zanu-PF. Not so much of a defection there— in the same way that any shift from the lounge to the bedroom of the same house should never be misconstrued as a relocation!

Indeed, even the defections are tribalistic and nepotistic, further betraying the primitive and base instincts of the man who pilfered his way to State House.

The youth of this country must rise to the challenge. They must confront this dictatorship within the confines permissible under our national Constitution. As they say, the real problem in troubled countries such as ours has never been civil disobedience. The real problem that needs tackling has been civil obedience to autocracy, nay the acquiescence and sheepish succumbing to the murderous traits of this piranha, blood-soaked political elite that has murdered and repressed citizens since November 2017. Civil disobedience through a loud, deafening expression of revulsion channeled through peaceful protests is certainly permissible under section 59 of Zimbabwe’s Constitution.

It is not the aim of this treatise to be contemptuous of the effort and gallantry of today’s youth. This is an exhortation for them to do far much more. The youth of this country have bravely borne the brunt of this blood-soaked regime. Tawanda Muchehiwa, Obey Sithole, Gift Ostallos Siziba, Takudzwa Ngadziore, Stephen “Sakorzy” Tshuma, Makomborero Haruzivishe, Allan Moyo, the MDC Alliance trio of Joannah Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova and several other youths throughout the country have been in the eye of the storm.

But they must certainly go bryond the puny effort of isolated individuals. It must be a monumental seismic shift spawned by an entire generation. The situation in Zimbabwe now demands a peaceful but sonorous expression by an entire demographic group. As a generation and not as scattered individuals, the youth of this country must rise to the level of—and even surpass the magnitude of—the grievous national challenges authored by the voluminous mediocrity and illegitimacy now engulfing the entire body politic.

The youth of this country must not listen to a lying regime that has captured all State institutions, uses paid surrogates to recall elected representatives and peddles the mistruth that it values the next generation and yet saddles that same generation with huge debts. In the case of Zimbabwe, the regime will bequeath to the next generation a ballooning but astounding external debt that currently stands in excess of US$11 billion.

An analogue regime of geriatrics will never understand the demands of the twitter and blog generation. They are too old to address the concerns of a generation still favoured with boundless energy and enthusiasm. A generation whose veins are copiously throbbing restless blood ( kutemwa dzinobva ropa ) Zanu PF has always operated outside the orbit of this generation of boundless energy and hope. Towards the election of 2013, I joked with President Tsvangirai, then the Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, when I intimated to him that had he been in Zanu PF, he would have been a member of the party’s youth league. I said this because when Morgan Tsvangirai contested the 2013 ejection as a 61-year old leader of his party, his age-mate, Absolom Sikhosana, was the leader of the Zanu-PF youth league and represented the digital generation’s interests in the party’s Politburo. A dinosaural party with such proclivities is certainly caught up in a time warp and can never understand the demands of today’s generation. Zanu PF is a party living outside its moment, like a typewriter in an Internet cafe’!

Indeed, and as the illustrious Morgan Tsvangirai used to say: Yesterday’s people cannot solve today’s problems. Today’s problems need today’s people and Zanu PF and its leaders are certainly yesterday’s people who can never muster enough knowledge to steer and manage a modern economy.

Two weeks ago, the people’s President, Advocate Nelson Chamisa, himself a doyen of today’s crop of dynamic leaders, presented his party’s agenda for the year 2021 and set the tone for the major political business of this year. It was an address that spawned trepidation across the corridors of stolen power and invited all sorts of invective— including even laughable threats of arrest.

In that address, the people’s President said in the year 2021, all citizens will be converging for change. He spoke of a broad front of collective citizen-led effort to tackle the challenges of our time. He spoke of a robust but peaceful, Constitutional and legitimate programme in which the youth will play a decisive part. The people’s President said the youth have an important role to play in the Citizens’ Convergence for Change agenda item. President Chamisa even made reference to the late Father Zimbabwe, the iconic Joshua Nkomo’s speech in which the liberation stalwart said the youth will ultimately save Zimbabwe and will not allow it to die.

We have now reached the penultimate stage where, if need be, it must be us the people and not the country that must die.

After all, it is the youth that have become seriously prejudiced by the ineptitude of this our scarfed regime. It is the youth that have turned to drugs and other addictive substances to seek an “escape” from their tenuous lived circumstance. We have become a country of degreed vendors and graduate small-time traders. In return, the corrupt elite in government is nowhere to be seen when it comes to addressing the concerns and grievances of this victim generation, turning up only to shed crocodile tears when popular youths die as as they did at the funerals of dancehall musician Soul Jah Love and actress Anne Nhira. The purpose is always to score cheap political points.

For God’s sake, the youth of this country want State-assisted opportunities in their lifetime, not State-assisted funerals at their deaths!

Indeed, ours has become mortuary government—a wicked funeral home that turns up to shed crocodile tears at the funerals of its victims. The regime has presided over the collapse of basic social services such as health and education. Soul Jah Love needed a functioning health institution to attend to his diabetic condition when he was still alive while Anne Nhira had fled to South Africa to fend for opportunities in a foreign land. It is telling that she was murdered while coming from a prayer in the mountain in South Africa, having to seek divine intervention in her parlous lived circumstance.

And this piece is not meant to incite anyone. It is simply a proposition to give insight. In any case, it is not criminal to incite a repressed people to exercise their democratic right by seeking succour and sanatorium in section 59 of a people’s Constitution that they wrote themselves and affirmed in a referendum.

It does not help that sometimes the youth have collectively become lily-livered when it comes to confronting this regime, choosing only to turn up in their huge numbers and siege Harare central business district to mourn and view the coffin of my distant relative, Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure, my dear brother from my hood in Domboshava while dismally failing to crowd the cities in similar fashion to vent out their grievances against the scarfed regime of Mr Mnangagwa—a regime that has dismally failed their generation. A government that has made them hewers of wood and drawers of water both in their own motherland and in foreign lands where they are slugging it out to earn a living.

As a generation, the youth of this country must rise to the moment. Collectively, the despondent youths of my land must soar to the magnitude of the challenges impeding and blighting them from inheriting a bright future. The rest of the citizenry will support their patriotic effort to safeguard their future.

The responsibility to defend the future must mainly lie in those that are genuine stockholders in that future—the youth of this land.

It is none but themselves!

“Mnangagwa Is Responsible For My Recall” Claimed Biti – Shot Yourself In The Foot, Yet Again

By Patrick Guramatunhu

A few days ago the Speaker of Parliament, Jacob Mudenda, announced that Tendai Biti and four other legislators elected under the MDC Alliance (MDC A) but from the People Democratic Party (PDP) had been recalled by the PDP.

The recall itself came as no surprise to anyone who has followed the mud-crab dance of Zimbabwe opposition politics.

MDC A is a coalition of six or so political parties including PDP, MDC-Ncube and MDC-T led by Morgan Tsvangirai whose primary purpose was for the partners to maximise on the opposition vote by fielding one candidate in all the 2018 electoral races. For convenience, the candidates called themselves MDC A although they each belonged to their individual party, MDC A was not a political party.

To muddy the waters, MDC-T led by Nelson Chamisa following Tsvangirai death in February 2018 started calling itself MDC A whilst a break-away faction led by Thokozani Khupe retained the MDC-T name.

Chamisa called an MDC A congress in Gweru in May 2019 to which all MDC A members from other partners attended and were elected to key positions in the MDC A – the coalition had morphed into a political party.

One would have thought that Tendai Biti and his PDP crowd and Welshman Ncube and David Coltart and their MDC-Ncube, the three are all lawyers, would have had the common sense to convene their own party congress to formally dissolve the party or transplant it lock, stock and barrel to be MDC A. They did no such thing.

Tendai Biti was elected MDC A VP with Welshman Ncube as the other VP. David Coltart was elected MDC A Treasurer General. Other PDP and MDC-Ncube members were elected into key position in the MDC A party.

So Tendai Biti and all the other former PDP members who joined the MDC A after the May 2019 congress crossed the floor and could no longer call themselves PDP members and therefore were subject to recall by PDP. David Coltart and all the other MDC-Ncube legislators, can too be recalled by the old MDC-Ncube, if it still exists.

Tendai Biti’s reaction to the recall is to blame Zanu PF! Biti was the chair person of the Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee (PAC) and he is adamant the recall was a calculated move by Zanu PF to stop the corruption undercover by the committee coming out.

“We had those (PAC) reports ready and my recall is to make sure these issues to do with corruption are not brought before Parliament. We will convene as a party and make sure we come up with a collective decision. Remember, we contested elections not under the PDP, but under the MDC Alliance,” Biti said.

“Yesterday (Tuesday), they prevented me from moving a motion on Chilonga displacements in Parliament. Tomorrow (today), I was supposed to present a report on Zinara (Zimbabwe National Road Administration), and on Monday, we were supposed to cross-examine ZESA on (Kudakwashe) Tagwirei’s Dema deal and Wicknell Chivhayo’s Gwanda solar project. In a few weeks’ time, we were going to table the issue of land barons in Harare. So the cartels and Mnangagwa are responsible for this recall.”

An old woman is always uneasy when dry bones are mentioned in a proverb; so goes the old adage.

Yes the PAC reports Biti’s committee was going to release were going to embarrass Mnangagwa and company, old woman and dry bones, but we should not go over board on this. Zanu PF has a thick skin!

Over the years there have been numerous stories and reports from the Willowgate scandal, to Mugabe’s admission the country was being swindled out of US$ 15 billion dollars in diamond revenue, etc. Zanu PF has used its political dominance to take the sting out of all these adverse reports. No doubt it would have done the same in this case.

The bottom line is Zanu PF did not engineer the recall of these MDC A legislators. The sheer incompetence with which Tendai Biti and his fellow MDC A leaders have handled the transition from MDC A coalition to MDC A political party has created a lot of chaos and confusion. It is former colleagues in the old parties who are recalling the MDC A legislators. Zanu PF has taken advantage of the situation.

Tendai Biti is nothing but a noisy Chihuahua barking at a marauding elephant, to hear the bark one would think the Chihuahua going to eat the the elephant alive! Zanu PF is not going change because of what Biti says no more than the marauding elephant is going away because it fears being eaten alive with the Chihuahua.

If Zimbabweans are serious about ending corruption, we must demand democratic reforms leading to the holding of free, fair and credible elections. Free, fair and credible elections is more than just a basic human right; it is the alpha, omega and everything in between of good governance.

Tendai Biti and his MDC friends sold out on the golden opportunity to implement the reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. And since the GNU debacle they have participated in flawed elections giving legitimacy to Zanu PF for the sake of a few gravy train seats Zanu PF offered as bait. MDC leaders are hoping the nation will never notice the barking Chihuahua will never end the Zanu PF dictatorship, corruption and povo’s long suffering!

“Mnangagwa is responsible for my recall to stop PAC corruption reports coming out!” Yeah right! How about admitting, you shoot yourself in the foot!- SOURCE: zimbabwelight.blogspot.com

‘Prophet’ Uses Traditional Methods To Assist Followers

At first glance, Bishop Cuthbert Nyaruvenda, the founder of Sangano Dzvene Revapostori Church, looks like an ordinary person next door.

Alighting from his car clad in a blue T-shirt and matching jean trousers, the tall and slim religious leader smiles and waves at his congregants as he leisurely walks into his “surgery” situated in Harare’s high-density suburb of Highfield.

But he is fast becoming one of the country’s most controversial religious figures.

The apostolic church leader recently caused a stir when he led his congregants to perform, in broad daylight, a religious ceremony where traditional beer and snuff openly flowed.

The locals, who knew the congregation to be Christian, watched in bewilderment as church members numbering more than 300 — in flagrant disregard of Covid-19 regulations — conducted African traditional religious rites, through which spirits of the dead were supposedly invoked to help the living.

During the ceremony, there were gourds filled with traditional beer, while snuff was generously passed from one willing hand to the other.

By practising both faith and traditional healing, the Mhondoro-born faith-healer said he is determined to prove that the “oil and water don’t mix” proverb is wrong after all.

Last week, The Sunday Mail Society caught up with Bishop Nyaruvenda.

Throughout the interview, he maintained that there is nothing wrong with practising both faith and traditional healing.

“It started as a suggestion. I noticed that many of my followers have problems that can only be solved through traditional healing. After a church service, I called upon those that would want to have their problems solved the traditional way to stay behind,” Bishop Nyaruvenda said.

“I was shocked by the response. The majority of the congregation stayed behind and what followed was a day in which evil spirits were cast away the traditional way.”

Asked if mixing faith and traditional healing was acceptable, a clearly unamused Bishop Nyaruvenda accused some of the Christians of being hypocrites.

“I said it before and I am going to say it again: Most people, among them well-known religious leaders, are hypocrites.

‘‘During the day, they will be busy castigating traditional healing yet these are people that come to seek our services during the night,” he added.

Waving a reed mat which he said is called “karondora”, the controversial healer claimed it possesses magical powers that he uses in his craft.

They Can Never Recall Us From The People, Says Settlement Chikwinya After Recall From Parly

Fellow Mbizo residents, Kwekwe Citizens and Zimbabweans in general.

I hope I find you well.

I am sure that by now you are aware that 6 Members of Parliament from the MDC Alliance led by President Adv Chamisa were recalled from Parliament on Wednesday 17 March 2020. This brings to 48 the total number of MDC Alliance legislators illegally withdrawn from Parliament by the Zanupf regime using new found surrogates in the form of compromised former opposition members who include Khupe, Mwonzora and lately Matibenga and Benjamin Rukanda.

The latest 6 members withdrawn including Hon Tendai Biti and myself were elected under the MDC Alliance having been prior members of PDP.
It needs to be stated that while the PDP had split primarily on the question of which coalition to join between MDC Alliance and Rainbow coalition, the Matibenga group participated in 2018 elections under Joyce Mujuru and Rainbow coalition while the Biti group went with the MDC Alliance.

The basic fact at law is that the party that a member participates an election under, is the one with the right of recall. It follows therefore that only the MDC Alliance has the right to recall MPs elected under its name.
At this moment I shall not delve much into the steps President Chamisa and the MDC Alliance are taking to ensure that all recalled MPs find justice.

What is important is for me to thank all of you for your support of President Chamisa , MDC Alliance and myself.
They can recall us from Parliament but never can they recall us from the people.
2021 we are converging as Citizens for Change and the people shall determine their future.

We can not let a captured judiciary, a compromised Speaker of Parliament and a corrupt Cabinet to determine our lives.
Thank you once again for all the solidarity messeges at a personal level.People power shall be victorious.

God bless you all.

S. Chikwinya

President Chamisa Reveals Solution To Political Turmoil In Zimbabwe

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa has said God Almighty will deliver the nation from political oppression.

Citing the biblical illustration of Gideon who is chosen by God to lead the battle against the Midianites, President Chamisa urged the nation to depend on the Lord for total deliverance from oppression.

“IT’S NOT BY OWN POWER….

Then the Lord said to Gideon, “There are too many people with you for Me to hand over Midian to them, otherwise Israel will boast [about themselves] against Me, saying, ‘My own power has rescued me.’
Judges 7:2 Blessed Sabbath. #Godisinit,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter.

“You see, the battles are spiritual- so we have to depend on the Lord for victory,” one church leader said.

Passport Chaos

Hoardes of people have resumed camping outside the capital’s passport offices, raising the spectre of coronavirus infections, as standard health protocols are not being strictly observed.

Since the resumption of issuance of passports and identity cards, multitudes have been thronging the Registrar-General’s (RG) Makombe Government Complex.

Opportunists such as vendors, street photographers and the odd lot of those who live on the streets are also part of the melee.

The Sunday Mail Society saw a sea of people that had gathered by the RG’s complex entrance by 6am on Thursday morning. Some of them had joined the long, winding queue as early as 5am.

Pushing and shoving was inevitable, especially as the RG’s Office is reportedly attending to only 100 people per day.

However, last week, the bulk of the people that turned up were those who were hoodwinked by social media reports suggesting passport applications from February 2019 had been processed and were ready for collection.

The Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage has since dismissed the reports as fake.

“The Civil Registry Department is working round the clock to clear the passport backlog and any communication regarding the collection of passports by applicants will be communicated through official communication channels and through the Short Message Service (SMS) platform,” the ministry said in a statement.

Mr Farai Chipaze of Chitungwiza was a disappointed man and had no kind words for those who peddle fake news.

“What these people are doing is diabolic. When I saw the fake news, I was in Mutare and I had to hurry back, only to be told that it was a ruse. People should stop playing with our emotions,” a fuming Mr Chipaze, who was milling around the premises, said.

Inside the premises, scores of people were at the enquiries desk.

Passport officials, however, routinely advised people to disperse as they were not attending to those applying for ordinary passports. Only those that had made applications for emergency passports were being attended to on that particular day.

Some enterprising youths who live on the streets have turned to the old ways of sleeping outside the offices in order to sell off their positions in the morning.

Some of the guards have also joined in the act of soliciting for bribes from those that are desperate to be served on time irrespective of their position in the queue. The Government recently gave the nod for the resumption of issuance of civic documents.

Acting Registrar-General Mr Henry Machiri said they will redouble efforts to ensure applicants comply with health guidelines and protocols.

“With regards to your observation in which you highlighted that those seeking passports are not observing social-distancing measures, I have taken note of that and will act accordingly. As you might be aware, we are not 100 percent open. We are, however, working within the Covid-19 regulations,” Mr Machiri said.

He advised those that are seeking passports to be patient and ignore some of the fake social media news.

“We currently have only 40 percent of our staff. As such, our output is governed by the number of workers that we have. The sad thing is that the high number of people that are coming to our offices are responding to a fake social media posting.”

The Registrar-General’s Office is battling to clear the huge passport backlog. Last year, the backlog was cut back by 20 percent, taking advantage of a lull in new applications due to Covid-19 restrictions that limited travel.

Before the lockdown, production of passports had been seriously affected by increasing applications and foreign currency shortages. Only 83 379 passports were processed during the first two months of the lockdown period. Sunday Mail

Government Agents Sweat Over Anti- Zanu PF Graffiti

Tinashe Sambiri|State security agents are on high alert after noticing anti- Zanu PF graffiti on several bulidings in the ancient city of Masvingo.

Police officers on leave have been called for duty as the regime grapples with rising dissent.

“What is disturbing is that Masvingo is usually very quiet so we are seized with the spraying of graffiti on buildings in the Central Business District. We have noticed that those who sprayed the walls have political motives.

We suspect the opposition is working with pressure groups to cause havoc in the country,” an intelligence source told ZimEye.com on Saturday.

“This (spraying of graffiti) is a matter that we need to resolve urgently,” added the source.

Residents of the ancient city of Masvingo are also unhappy with the shocking 500% adjustment of water rates.

Disgruntled citizens are also calling for the immediate release of political prisoners.

However all people in attendance were observing all Covid 19 regulation rules wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing. It is clear the regime is up to silence the voice of the Zimbabweans to the extent of brutalising the poor and underpriveledged people of Chivi who were just in solidarity with their fellow friends, leaders and activists who are being persecuted for speaking against dictatorship.

Among the the arrested people are MDCA Chivi North heavyweight and Hon D. Mapipi, youth leader S. Hwaire ,Tongofa Marazanye,Innocent Mudhaga, Beauty Chakupa among other activists and leaders.

MDCA Masvingo youth Secretary Councillor Gilbert Mutubuki addressed the gathering and fired a warning shot to the regime over its continued brutality to all opposing voices. He further articulated that the the young people are up to task since the future of Zimbabwe is in their hands hands they are ready to take all possible routes to liberate Zimbabwe. The regime got a shocker of its kind in Chivi at Mhandamhabwe where they expect people to be their stoogies. They have resorted to use the uniformed forces. Human Rights Lawyers are attending the matter with urgency.

It is indeed from such an act that the regime has poked the Masvingo youth Citizens who have rubbished the act as the beginning of a long unending war against dictatorship.

Many Progressive human rights movements are up to the government’s neck and truely speaking the most expected Visionary ideology is shaping up that is the Citizens Convergence for Change. The need for a unified struggle among Zimbabweans from all walks of life.

Married Church Bishop Impregnates Congregant

A married church bishop is under fire for impregnating one of his congregants and allegedly trying to terminate the pregnancy on four different occasions.

Bishop Nathan Tafadzwa Gwenyaya of Rock Foundation Tabernacle also stands accused of neglecting his 10 months old son.

The married father of three who stays in Penhalonga with his family found Rock Foundation Tabernacle in 2018.

Bishop Gwenyaya and his child’s mother, Ms Lince Siiwa (25)’s case had since spilled into court, with the latter demanding $25 000 monthly maintenance from the man of cloth.

However, the parties on Wednesday had an out of court settlement of $11 000 monthly maintenance.

Mrs Netsai Nyamwanza represented Ms Siiwa while Mr Stephen Chikamhi represented Bishop Gwenyaya.

Mutare magistrate, Mr Lazarus Musendo, endorsed the $11 000 maintenance when the parties later appeared before him.

In an unsolicited interview with The Manica Post, Ms Siiwa, said upon realising that he had impregnated her, Bishop Gwenyaya engaged and paid some people to facilitate the termination of her pregnancy on four different occasions.

Ms Siiwa said she almost died during one of the abortion attempts.

Upon realising that his mission to abort the pregnancy had failed, Bishop Gwenyaya is alleged to have ordered Ms Siiwa to lie to her family that she had been raped by unknown assailants.

Ms Siiwa followed the Bishop’s script and lied to her mother and sisters.

A police report was made but no one was arrested as there were no suspects.

Narrating how she became intimate with Bishop Gwenyaya, Ms Siiwa said the man of cloth sexually abused her.

“He came to collect me from our place on the pretext that we would visit other congregants. He drove me to Vumba, where he forcibly kissed and hugged me. He forced himself on me and a few weeks later I realised that I was pregnant.

“He engaged his colleague to abort the pregnancy but it failed. After a week, he sent the guy again and I almost died. It happened on four different occasions.

‘‘On the last attempt, the hired guy brought another person whom he said was an expert, but nothing worked. I had to tell my two elder sisters about my ordeal,” said Ms Siiwa.

She said when she delivered her baby, her elder sisters forced Bishop Gwenyaya to meet the hospital bills.

However, Bishop Gwenyaya allegedly stopped communicating with Ms Siiwa and her family.

“He also blocked my mother’s contacts when she told him that they were taking the issue to the police. This was after she had heard that Bishop Gwenyaya had also tried to molest my younger sister,” said Ms Siiwa.

One of Ms Siiwa’s sisters – Mrs Lynn Magume – is married to Pastor Jeremiah Magume, who was also a member of Bishop Gwenyaya’s church.- Manica Post

We Will Qualify- Alec Mudimu

Zimbabwe international defender Alec Mudimu believes the Warriors will still book a place at AFCON despite missing key players in the decisive games against Botswana and Zambia.

Zdravko Logarušić’s men take on the Zebras on the 25th of March before hosting Chipololo at the National Sports Stadium four days later, as the battle to join Algeria at the continental showpiece goes down to the wire.

There will be without Marvelous Nakamba, Tendayi Darikwa, Tino Kadewere, Marshall Munetsi, David Moyo and Khama Billiat owing to traveling restrictions and injury respectively.

Mudimu, one of the few players abroad expected for the games, alongside captain Knowledge Musona, Teenage Hadebe and Victor Kamhuka, believes they can still get a positive result despite the setback.

“Of course there are a lot of differences in the squad that qualified (for AFCON 2017) compared to the current squad due to the virus,” he told lifestyle tabloid H-Metro.

“But like I have always said, I’m confident in what the players who have been called can do. I’m confident our nation has a great chance to qualify this time around too,” he added.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Masvingo Residents Demand Immediate Release Of Political Prisoners

Facts About Chronic Sleep Deprivation

Health Problems Linked to Not Getting Enough Sleep

Chronic sleep deprivation can have long-term consequences for your overall health and well-being.

Consistently cutting short your sleep has been linked to worse heart health, brain health, gut health, and more.iStock
Most of us would prefer a good night of sleep. We have more energy, we’re better able to focus, and we generally feel better the next day. But there’s growing evidence that sleep is really critical for maintaining good long-term health, too.

The body can usually cope with occasionally staying up late, but if you’re frequently or chronically depriving yourself of sleep, there will be health prices to pay, says Sigrid C. Veasey, MD, a researcher and professor of medicine at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia.

The strongest evidence may be in the fact that humans have not evolved to sleep any less than we did thousands of years ago, when people were sleeping outdoors and the dangers of being attacked by wild animals or the elements were much greater than they are now, Dr. Veasey says. If sleep really wasn’t that important, you could theorize that humans would have evolved to sleep less, she says.

“From an evolutionary perspective, that indicates sleep must be very important in some sense,” she says.

Getting too little or poor quality sleep can be the result of our personal choices: consuming too much alcohol or caffeine, spending lots of time before bed on our phones, or just not setting aside enough hours a night for sleep. Or it can result due to a another health issue (like undiagnosed sleep apnea, depression, or chronic pain) or a side effect of a medication we’re taking, explains Meena Khan, MD, a neurologist and sleep medicine specialist at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center in Columbus.

No matter the reason, however, poor sleep is bad for health, she adds.

According to guidelines from the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and the Sleep Research Society, published in June 2015 in Sleep, adults should sleep at least seven or more hours per night for optimal health.

Here are some of the long-term health problems you might be at increased risk of if you’re not clocking those hours:

  1. Depression and Anxiety
Research shows that people who have chronic insomnia have a higher rate of depression and anxiety compared with people who haven’t been diagnosed with insomnia, says Dr. Khan. Estimates suggest 15 to 20 percent of people diagnosed with insomnia will develop major depression.

The relationship between mood and sleep is complex and bidirectional, which means that depression or anxiety can worsen sleep, and lack of sleep is can also negatively impact mood. And insomnia is considered an independent risk factor for developing depression in people of all ages, according to a review February 2019 in the Journal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine.right up arrow
Sometimes separate treatments are needed to help with the sleep problems and the anxiety or depression, but in some cases improving sleep can help mood, too, says Khan.

A meta-analysis of 23 studies, published in August 2018 in Depression and Anxiety, that looked at the effects of insomnia treatment on depression found that treating the insomnia had a positive effect on mood.right up arrow

  1. Type 2 Diabetes
Poor quality sleep or short sleep duration has been linked to poorer blood sugar control in people with and without diabetes, says Khan. It can increase risk of the development of diabetes as well, she says.

One recent study, published in September 2020 in Diabetologia, found that insomnia may increase risk for type 2 diabetes by as much as 17 percent.right up arrow

  1. Weight Gain and Obesity

Laboratory research suggests that not getting enough sleep can lead to metabolic changes associated with obesity; and observational studies that look at duration of sleep and rates of obesity have found a link between the chronic metabolic disorder and not getting enough regular rest, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).right up arrow The link is particularly strong in children.

In the Nurses’ Health Study, which followed 68,183 women over 16 years, those who slept an average of five hours or fewer per night had a 15 percent higher risk of developing obesity compared with women who slept five hours per night.right up arrow The women who slept less were also 30 percent more likely to have gained 30 pounds over the course of the study compared with women who slept longer.

  1. Hypertension, Heart Disease, and Stroke
Studies in large groups of people that have compared poor sleep and sleep problems with heart attacks and stroke have shown that worse sleep is linked to those heart problems, according to the Heart Foundation.right up arrow
A study published in June 2020 in PLoS Biology identified a possible mechanism whereby worse sleep could be harmful to the heart; it showed that sleep fragmentation (repeated awakenings through the night that disrupt sleep) was associated with of the buildup of inflammation in the arteries (specifically white blood cells called monocytes and neutrophils), which leads to atherosclerosis (the buildup of plaque on and inside the artery walls).right up arrow
There is also evidence linking sleep disorders (which tend to result in poorer quality or shorter sleep) with heart problems. People with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) have higher risk of hypertension, heart attack, and stroke, says Khan.
  2. Kidney Problems
The link between sleep and kidney health hasn’t been as firmly established as the link between sleep and other chronic conditions, says Khan. “There have been a few preliminary studies, but the relationship needs to be further explored,” she says.

Chronic insomnia was associated with the development and progression of chronic kidney disease, but not end-stage renal disease or death from any cause, according to research published in 2018 in Mayo Clinic Proceedings.right up arrow

  1. Cognitive Problems, Alzheimer’s Disease, and Other Types of Dementia
“What we’re finding is that injury due to poor sleep or not enough sleep doesn’t show up immediately, but it can result in changes that later on in life look like Alzheimer’s disease and injury in the hippocampus and some of the other brain regions,” says Veasey.

30 MDC Alliance Youth Assembly members arrested in Chivi

FULL TEXT: Recalled Kwekwe Legislator’s Passionate Letter To His Constituency

Regards
S. Chikwinya

THREAD: “Mwonzora Is Leader Of Opposition Who Is Not Opposing ED. Who Is He Opposed To?”

“Politics Of The Stomach Choking Zimbabwe”

It is really sad and beyond imagination to see democracy being shoved into the blast furnace with  the aim of creating a one party state.

By Leonard Koni- Is recalling members of parliament by any chance going to solve or improve the country’s economic, social and political challenges bedevelling the country or its designed to create a Chinese model of politics through  weakening the people’s struggle?

I see Thokozani Khupe and Douglas Mwonzora are struggling to stand on their feet to lure the electorate after they recalled some members of parliament. They are not even getting stronger.

Honestly people are very much aware of the fact that this so called new dispensation under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa has nothing to offer and is just there to decimate the opposition, loot the country’s resources and self enrichment not the improvement of people’s lives.

About 70% of Zimbabweans are living under the poverty datum line and cannot afford even two decent meals per day. They are scrounging from one day to the other and go home with nothing whilst these political bourgeoisie are excelling every day in self preservation.
In that area surely they deserve a place in the Guinness book of world records.

What is the main reason of parading members who have left politics long time ago and have now defected to another party. Will voters take such candidates seriously or get tricked by their political posture and grandstanding.

Its like parading former Dynamos player and coach Moses ‘Bambo’ Chunga to play for Highlanders ‘Bosso’ Football ClubSuch a move would be beyond imagination.

Most of these tired politicians who cannot match modern day politics are glory hunters seeking to be re admitted or accommodated into Zanu PF gravy train which is mostly known through looting country’s resources and corruption.

They were denied and rejected by the people and could not access those privileges of parly allowances, laptop and a car. They have now resorted to finding ways to feed themselves together with their spouses.

These opportunists are out, but I just feel bad for the late Morgan Tsvangirai who was surrounded and trusted these political prostitutes dressed in sheep’s skins when they were actually wolves. The likes of Thokozani Khupe, Douglas Mwonzora, Obert Gutu, Tracey Mutinhiri and the forgotten James Makore.

Those rejoining Zanu PF must be applauded for exercising their democratic rights. The cleansing process should not stop but must come as a bonus to MDC-Alliance. The residue must be kept in a safe place.

To be honest and precise these people who are joining Zanu PF are as good as used oil which cannot be put in an engine under a service. They are finished and have lost the viscosity.

Victoria Falls Man Threatens Wife With Kitchen Knife

A Victoria Falls man who threatened to stab his wife with a kitchen knife forcing her to seek refuge at a police base on International Women’s Day has been sentenced to nine months in jail.

Chisola Jude Khumalo (35) of 4516 in Chinotimba picked up a kitchen knife which he sharpened on the wall before charging at his wife Zanele Ndlovu, aged 39, while threatening to stab her.

The cause of the fight was not stated in court.

Ndlovu said she had to gather all strength and ran for her dear life when her husband charged at her carrying a knife while threatening to stab her.

She said the sight of her husband sharpening the kitchen knife on the wall scared her to the bone and she ran to the police to file a report.

“I was at home with the accused who is my husband when he came out of the house carrying a knife saying he wanted to stab me with it. He sharpened the knife on the wall and came closer to me saying he was now coming to stab me. It seemed he wanted to throw the knife at me and that’s when I escaped and ran to the police,” said Ndlovu.

Khumalo pleaded guilty to threats of violence when he appeared before Victoria Falls magistrate Lindiwe Maphosa.

The magistrate sentenced him to nine months in prison before suspending three months on condition that he does not commit a crime involving violence within the next five years.

The remaining six months were suspended on condition that Khumalo completes 210 hours of community service at Baobab Primary School in the resort town, thereby saving him jail time.

Prosecuting, Asher Chindedza told how Ndlovu ended up at Ezengeni, the common name for police post in Chinotimba.

“On the 8th of March 2021 at 1pm, the accused threatened to stab the complainant with a kitchen knife.

The accused went on to sharpen the knife on the wall and then he charged towards the complainant who managed to escape and reported the matter to the police,” said Chindedza.

March 8 is International Women’s Day, a day to commemorate the cultural, political, and socioeconomic achievements of women globally. It is also a day that brings into focus women’s rights, gender equality, reproductive rights, and violence against women.

Man Stabbed For Being Pompous

A Bulawayo man was stabbed to near death by his neighbour, who was accusing him of treating himself as a better person in their suburb.

Nqobile Ngulube (36) from Makokoba suburb, cheated death after he was stabbed twice on the upper left arm by Clifford Ncube (35) from the same suburb.

Ncube, however, ended up at court where he appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Shepherd Mjanja charged with assault as defined in section 89 of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act) Chapter 9:23.

He was not asked to plead and was remanded in custody to 21 March 2021.

Allegations against Ncube are that on 20 February 2021 and along 2nd street in Makokoba suburb, Ncube approached the complainant and started accusing him of treating himself as a better person than other people in the suburb.

A misunderstanding reportedly arose and at the height of the altercation Ncube is alleged to have taken a knife from his back pocket and stabbed Ngulube twice on the upper left arm.

As a result of the frenzied knife attack, Ngulube reportedly sustained a deep cut on the upper left arm and was rushed to hospital for treatment.

The matter was reported to the police leading to Ncube’s arrest.-statemedia

Drama As Teen Girl Runs Away From Home Over Beer Ban

There was drama in Lupane’s Nono Village when a 15-year-old girl packed her belongings and left home after her uncle banned her from drinking beer.

Her uncle found her in the company of friends drinking beer at his homestead and spilled the beer, telling his niece that she should leave if she continued with her behaviour.

“This angered the teenager who confronted her uncle and went on to shower him with insults and then immediately left the homestead,” said a source.

She sought refuge at a friend’s house in a bid to show her uncle that she would not bow down to being refused beer.

Speaking to B-Metro, Sithembinkosi Kunene, who is the area’s councillor confirmed the incident.

“What the girl did was improper because at her age she shouldn’t be drinking and let alone sulking over beer.

“Alcohol is a very powerful, addictive drug that is damaging if taken in high doses.

“Many adults drink moderately and safely but for teenagers, alcohol can be very harmful and it’s illegal to take it at her age.

“I’ve dealt with so many cases of teenagers who abuse alcohol but it is quite difficult to convince most of them that drinking at such a young age carries great risk,” said Kunene.-statemedia

Man Demands Back Lobola Over Wife Who Bashes Him For Failing To Impregnate Her

domestic violence

By A Correspondent- A Masvingo ma has approached his in-laws demanding back his lobola revealing that his wife assaults him accusing him of being weak and failing to impregnate her.

The man from Chademana Village in Zaka area, Masvingo province sued his in-laws demanding back his lobola claiming his wife was savagely beating him up over his inability to impregnate her.

Reports gathered by B-Metro are that Jethro Mundanga had been constantly assaulted by his wife Kudzai Mabhiza to an extent that he moved out of their matrimonial home to stay with his relatives.

The two, Mundanga and Mabhiza had been customarily married for 10 years and their marriage had not been blessed with a child, leading the latter to suspect that it was her husband who had a problem since she had a child from her previous marriage.

It was also gathered that the relatives tried to intervene in the matter to no avail.

The situation became worse when Mabhiza started bashing her husband each time they picked up a quarrel.

According to a source, Mundanga, who apparently felt his wife had lowered his dignity and could no longer live with her, approached Chief Ndanga’s traditional court where he narrated his sad love story while demanding that his lobola should be returned.

“He approached Chief Ndanga’s traditional court demanding that his in-laws should pay back his money and two beasts because his wife had turned him into a laughing stock by constantly assaulting him in front of neighbours and relatives while accusing him of being weak because he was unable to give her children.

“She was always shouting obscenities at him, something that makes Mundanga feel not good enough for her. At one time she even forcibly removed his pair of trousers after he came home drunk and in the process she was shouting at him saying he was wasting his energy on beer,” the source said.

Added the source: “That was actually very sad such that Mundanga moved out of the house to stay with a relative and later approached Chief Ndanga’s traditional court demanding that his in-laws should refund him his lobola since their daughter was always deriding him saying he was not man enough.”

Chief Ndanga could neither confirm nor deny the incident.

“There is nothing I can say at the moment and I will be at liberty to comment on the matter once I preside over it.

“This is because at the moment there are a lot of cases which accrued because of Covid-19 regulations which were prohibiting people from gathering and moving from one place to another,” said Chief Ndanga.-statemedia

Teen Boys Rape Minor, Silence Her With Sweets

Two pupils from How Mine Secondary School have been arrested after they allegedly raped a seven-year-old minor at a community hall.

A family member, who spoke to B-Metro on condition of anonymity, said the two suspects were aged 14 and 15 years old.

The family source said the 15-year-old teenager masterminded the rape ordeal by giving the grade two pupil sweets and after that inviting the minor to a community hall to play.

When they got there he played with the unsuspecting child and after some minutes they were joined by his 14-year-old friend, the source said.

A source close to investigations said one of the rape suspects undressed the minor and the two then took turns to rape her.

After the act the 15-year-old gave the minor more sweets so as to buy her silence, said the source.

The source said after the ghastly act, the minor bled and walked with difficulty. Her mother got suspicious when she saw her walking in that state and asked what happened to her, the source said.

She revealed to her mother that the two boys took her to a community hall to play and later raped her and gave her sweets so that she would not tell anyone.

The mother took the child to How Mine clinic, where she was referred to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), where the minor was examined and it was confirmed that the child was raped.

She reported the rape incident at How Mine police base leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident: “ We would like to urge parents and guardians to always monitor their children and warn them not to agree to play at a secluded place. And they have to report to their parents any person who acts suspiciously to them.-statemedia

Did you say Magufuli was God (not Mnangagwa) Fearing?

Response to Tanzanian man who says the late John Magufuli was God fearing (video)

Was John Magufuli diligent, a man who for his nation’s health, failed to do a 10 min read of Biblical history full of thousands of years of COVIDS/airborne pandemics/pestilences?

How different is Magufuli to Donald Trump, the latter who also revived US nationalism refusing to bow down to foreign interference, attacking the UN, while yet directly causing the death of hundreds of thousands of his own citizens through reckless populism?

For us Zimbabweans Magufuli personally sponsored Mnangagwa’s genocide, condemned by the African Union. He is on video ignoring the plight of suffering Zimbos, while calling for the self boasting genocide criminal, Mnangagwa, to be exonerated.

Yes, he was against the LGBT community, and that’s Tanzanian tradition, but does that translate to leadership of a nation of diverse people? Is attacking the LGBT an accomplishment? What of genocide in Zimbabwe?

Some shocking irony is that the only African Head Of State to go head on against Mnangagwa-Mugabe was Ian Khama. I am still trying to work out what this means for the type of leadership we have in Africa.- Simba Chikanza

Woman Stabs Hubby Over $30 Candle Money

By A Correspondent- A woman from Iminyela suburb stabbed her husband twice with a kitchen knife after he asked why she used $30 meant to buy vegetables to buy a candle.

When Thabisani Ndlovu (28), who is a security guard, came home after 7.30 pm last week on Friday, his wife Tholakele Nyathi asked for money to buy vegetables.

According to Ndlovu he told her to take the $30 he gave her to buy vegetables, but Tholakele told him that she bought a candle. After that an argument broke out.

“While I was questioning her why she bought a candle instead of buying vegetables she got angry and started to accuse me of ill- treating her. An argument ensued. She then ran to the kitchen and fetched a kitchen knife which she used to stab me once on the left armpit and once on the waist. I fell and bled,” he said.

His neighbour Mqondisi Sibanda had to phone Ndlovu’s brother who quickly came.

“His brother Mgcini Ndlovu swiftly came and bandaged him. After that he phoned an ambulance which ferried him to Mpilo Central Hospital. He was admitted to Ward A2 and has since been discharged as his condition is improving,” said Sibanda.

Ndlovu said despite what his wife did to him, he forgave her.

“I would have to forgive her for the sake of our children. I have three children with her aged one year, four years and the other one is eight years old. I would take that as a mistake because naturally she is ‘cheeky’ and she easily gets angry,” said Ndlovu.

Tholakele has been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident: I would like to urge community members to desist from fighting over trivial matters and learn to live in harmony with each other.”

Zanu Pf Replaces Deceased MPs

By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF has moved to replace legislators who died recently due to different ailments, including the COVID-19 pandemic, with newly-appointed Foreign Affairs and International Trade minister Fredrick Shava replacing the late Sibusiso Busi Moyo as Midlands senator.

Moyo succumbed to COVID-19 in January.

According to General Notice 400 of 2021 published in the Government Gazette yesterday, Zimbabwe Election Commission (Zec) chairperson Priscilla Chigumba announced that the ruling party had also nominated Dorothy Mabika to replace the late Chipinge senator and Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister Ellen Gwaradzimba, who also succumbed to the respiratory disease in January.

Former Beitbridge West legislator Metrine Mudau bounced back to replace Matabeleland South province proportional representative MP Lisa Singo, who collapsed and died last month.

“The public is hereby notified in terms of section 39(7)(a) of the Electoral Act (Chapter 2:13) that Fredrick Makamure Shava a registered voter in ward 2, Gweru municipality, of Plot 4 Umsungwe Road , Harben Park, Gweru who was nominated by the Zimbabwe African National Patriotic Front (Zanu-PF) party to fill the vacancy in the Senate that occurred following the death of Hon Sibusiso Busi Moyo has been appointed as Senator with effect from the publication of this notice,” a notice by Chigumba reads.

Similar notices were also issued regarding the appointments of Mabika and Mudau.

However, the major highlight of the replacement was the nomination of Shava, who comes from the same rural backyard as President Emmerson Mnangagwa, to replace Moyo, the face of the 2017 military coup which brought a systemic political transformation to the country.

Shava was sworn in on Wednesday as Midlands senator and took oath before Senate deputy president Mike Nyambuya.

He was recently appointed minister by Mnangagwa to replace the late Moyo, but had not formally assumed his new role as his appointment had to be regularised first in terms of the Constitution.

However, after a 14-day period given by Zec lapsed following the gazetting of his nomination as Zanu-PF senator for Midlands with no objections, he was then duly sworn-in as a senator.-newsday

Joshua Nkomo’s Son Joins ZAPU Presidency Race

Sibangilizwe Nkomo

By A Correspondent- The late Vice-President and iconic statesman Joshua Nkomo’s son, Sibangilizwe, has been nominated as one of the candidates to contest for the opposition Zapu presidency.

The party also wants the vice-presidency to be opened up for contestation, departing from its tradition whereby a president would appoint his/her deputy. The Zapu congress is set for April 30.

Sources said Sibangilizwe’s name was forwarded to the party’s leadership by his Kezi branch in Matabeleland South province.

“His name has been submitted by his district. They want him to lead the party and if the nomination is accepted, he will be one of the contestants for the presidency,” a Zapu official said.

The developments came after the party’s national people’s council sat on March 11, where it proposed that the people’s congress dates be shifted from April 15 to 30.

Party sources told Southern Eye that there were calls for the vice-president’s position to be contested despite the fact that the post has always been by appointment.

“There has been a norm that the VP post is by appointment and usually, it is given to members from Mashonaland provinces. But we feel that this is undemocratic, people should chose their leaders and there must be a change of approach on this because the way it has been all along done was tribal and discriminatory, so we lobby that this time, it must be contested for the first time,” said a party member who preferred not to be named.

Zipra Veterans Trust spokesperson Baster Magwizi is tipped for the vice-presidency, although other party members prefer the party’s spokesperson Iphithule Maphosa.

However, Zapu director of marketing and communications Patrick Ndlovu yesterday said the VP post would be filled through appointment, adding that positions that were up for grabs were the presidency, secretary-general and chairperson only.

“The VP post is by appointment. That is a policy position. Any change to that requires a constitutional amendment. So far no amendments to that effect have been proposed,” Ndlo-vu said.

“So there is no contest for VP.”

Ndlovu said the candidates were currently playing their cards close to their chests and names of the contestants would be unveiled as and when candidates openly declare their candidature.

“On the SG [secretary-general] position, I believe the eventual successful presidential candidate will determine the direction of its contest,” Ndlovu said.

“There are certain fundamentals that have been set by contesting political thoughts in this elective congress. In the presidential race so far Matthew Bhubesi Sibanda, Bernard Magugu and Strike Mkandla have come out in the open to contest. Sibangilizwe Nkomo’s name has come up from his branch in Kezi. Another dark horse is Mqondobanzi Magonya from the United Kingdom.”

Efforts to contact Nkomo were fruitless as he was not reachable on his mobile phone.

On March 11, the party’s NPC deliberated on the recommendations from the presidency and the national executive committee to extend and shift the dates of both provincial conferences and the people’s congress.

This was necessitated by delays in completing the provincial conferences owing to COVID-19 lockdowns and safety regulations that were imposed by the government. It was recommended that a shift in dates would allow adequate time for the completion of the processes. Maphosa said after deliberations, the NPC resolved that the provincial conferences deadline be moved to March 31.

“The people’s congress dates were shifted from April 15 to April 30, the venue remains unchanged at Bulawayo Amphitheatre and for the congress preparations as undertaken by the congress planning committee will continue, but adapting to the slight changes,” Maphosa said.-Newsday

President Chamisa Blasts Allies Who Have Joined Zanu Pf

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa says former opposition allies who have ditched the party to join the rival Zanu-PF were pursuing personal interests at the expense of the masses.

The past few weeks have seen opposition officials Lillian Timveous, Blessing Chebundo, Tracy Mutinhiri, Obert Gutu and James Makore make a beeline for Zanu-PF ranks.

Last year, former Masvingo legislator Tongai Matutu also jumped ship to be part of Zanu-PF.

Following their defections, the once ardent drivers of the MDC cause have all been paraded ostentatiously by President Emmerson Mnangagwa at State House.

Speaking exclusively to NewZimbabwe.com Friday, Chamisa said his erstwhile colleagues were driven by selfish interests.

“The challenge with some politicians is that they choose to pursue individual interests over the people’s cause.

“Such is not good leadership. Public leadership is about service and sacrifice, being upright and principled,” he said.

The MDC politicians who have jumped ship have all condemned the main opposition for failing to reinvigorate itself and mount a formidable challenge for state authority.

Mutinhiri, once a Zanu-PF loyalist before her surprise move to MDC, said her departure was inspired by the realisation the main opposition was a “white man’s party”.

Gutu said she would want to be party to the Zanu-PF government’s Vision 2030 dream while Makore said he felt no longer wanted in MDC because of his advanced age.

Meanwhile, in his comments, Chamisa said the departure of the senior politicians who have anchored the opposition ranks for years granted the opportunity for younger leaders to emerge within his party.

“When an old dry leaf falls off, a new fresh shoot is there to replace it. There can never be any renewal without exfoliation or peeling off of the tired and the lifeless.

“This is a perfect opportunity to restart, reboot,” he said.-newsday

Soldiers Roped In For Covid-19 Vaccination Programme

By A Correspondent- Vice president and Health and Child Care minister Constantino Chiwenga has said government will soon rope in soldiers to speed up the second phase of the COVID-19 mass vaccination programme.

Government is targeting to vaccinate 60% of the country’s population before the end of the year as it seeks to expand the inoculation pro-gramme beyond frontline workers during the second phase.

So far, there has been a very low uptake of the Chinese-made Sinopharm vaccine, with frontline workers, particularly nurses, questioning the efficacy of the vaccine.

Addressing journalists soon after receiving his second jab in Harare on Thursday, Chiwenga said government was engaging army personnel together with retired health workers to speed up the vaccination and hedge the population against the looming third wave of the virus.

The former Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces was the first Zimbabwean to be inoculated during the first phase which started last month.

“We are bringing in army medical personnel, local authorities and retired health workers to speed up vaccination across the country to achieve herd immunity,” Chiwenga said.

“This is a massive rollout and we have not had such in years, hence it is important that we train health workers, educate the nation about the importance of vaccination.” He urged sceptical citizens to get vaccinated so that the country achieves its targeted 60% herd immunity and returns to normalcy.

“Today (Thursday), my vaccination was just a matter of seconds and I was done. This improved speed is commendable and this will help us reach our targets. We have to do it faster and have the manpower to do it,” he said.

Zimbabwe has so far recorded 36 611 confirmed cases of COV-ID-19, with 34 226 recoveries and 1 509 deaths.

The southern African nation launched its vaccination programme last month after receiving a donation of 200 00 doses of Sinopharm vaccine from China.

On Tuesday, another donation of 200 00 doses of the vaccine arrived in the country together with an additional 200 000 doses of another Chinese-made Sinovac drug, procured by government to target education, religious sectors and people with underlying conditions. The rest of the population will be catered for in the third phase.

The COVID-19 vaccination programme is now in the second phase, with those who received their first jabs last month in the process of receiving their second one, while teachers have also started being vaccinated. However, the public has been sceptical about being vaccinated with the Sinopharm vaccine because of lack of information on its efficacy and the accompanying side effects.

On February 16, Chiwenga told Parliament that government planned to vaccinate about 54 000 health workers and an unspecified number of customs, immigration and ex-tension workers in the initial stage of the programme within 10 days, but only 40 000 have been vaccinated to date. However, Chinese ambassador to Zimbabwe, Gu Shaochun, has de-fended the Sinopharm vaccine produced by the Asian giant, saying it is safe amid indications that the rollout is floundering due to public scepticism.-Newsday

Anne Nhira Burial Set For This Weekend

By A Correspondent- The late Studio 263 actress Anne Nhira’s burial has been set for this weekend, her family has confirmed.

According to the late actress’ family, the burial will depend on the arrival of her body from South Africa,

“Burial day depends on the arrival of the body, but we had arranged that if the body arrives on Friday (today), the burial will be on Saturday (tomorrow) at Zororo Memorial Park. We are, however, hopeful that Nyaradzo Funeral Services will finish the paperwork by tomorrow (today). If they arrive on Saturday, we will have it (burial) on Sunday,” Nhira family spokesperson Florence Ziyambi, who is also the legal adviser to the President and Cabinet, said.

Popularly known as Vimbai Jari from yesteryear soap Studio 263, Nhira died of injuries after she was attacked by unknown assailants in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, on Monday last week.

She is alleged to have suffered injuries on her chest, rib cage and back and died three days later. A docket for a murder case has been opened in South Africa.

Ziyambi said much of the repatriation paperwork had been processed and Nyaradzo was working towards getting a travelling permit.

“Yesterday (Wednesday) they managed to obtain the burial order and the death certificate. So today (yesterday), they are processing papers to get a non-infectious disease certificate from South Africa’s Ministry of Health and another one comes from this side,” she said.

“The papers are then taken to the Home Affairs Ministry (South Africa) and they will prepare a permit. Then if everything is ready, Nyaradzo will prepare the body to travel (for repatriation). We don’t know whether they will be through by the end of the day, but that is our assumption. If they do, they will then travel by road tomorrow (today). We will keep you posted.”

The government has since granted Nhira (38) a State-assisted funeral for her contribution to the showbiz sector.

Mourners are gathered at number 3429 Manyame Park, Chitungwiza.

Oliver Kanda of Mumbamuchena village, Chief Chipuriro in Guruve was found dead with a bottle of scents beer on Friday after he went missing for two days.

Mashonaland Central police spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the case.

“I can confirm a sudden death case in Guruve where Kanda was found dead after he had gone to fetch firewood but instead chose to go for a beer binge with his friend which subsequently took his life,” Mundembe said.

Allegations are that the now deceased Kanda left his homestead intending to fetch firewood.

He met his friend Beaulerland Gwaze who had brand beer the two started drinking and got highly intoxicated.

Gwaze fell asleep while Kanda tried to go home and fell near a stream where he was found dead two days later after a search.

Did You Know That The Way You Sleep With Your Sweetheart Speaks Volumes About Your Relationship?

By A Correspondent-There are things or habits which we usually take for granted, but they say a lot about us. Have you ever analysed the way you sleep with your partner or you only get to read into it after a fight as you each sleep at the edge of the bed.

Your everyday pattern of sleep says a lot about your relationship. These are some of the things taken for granted in relationships, but they mean and say a lot.

If you sleep in a tangle position also known as hug position, it shows you cannot resist each other. Of course this position is common among newlyweds. They are in each other’s arms the whole night. This is the most intimate and close-knit position that suggests the couple has a passionate and vigorous sexual relationship.

Apart from newlyweds, couples often tend to sleep in this position if they are engrossed in an intensely erotic conversation or after they have made love. If you like sleeping in this position, keep it up! Then there is the spooning position where the man or woman is spooning her partner. For some, they even do the spooning with a slight distance between them. If the man is the one spooning his woman, it shows that he is dominant and likes to take charge of everything.

This is a very intimate position and quite sexual for a very apparent reason as his manhood touches your butt or rests on your thighs. This position speaks tons about the intimacy between the two of you. When it’s the woman spooning her man, it shows she is protective and slightly possessive. Still in the same position, with little distance between the two of you, it means that there is trust and reliability on each other, but of course not as much intimacy as there is in a touchy, clingy, spooning position.

Cradle position is all about caring and protecting. It is the woman who typically rests her head on the man’s chest while he is resting on his back. This position says that the woman is seeking a protector who understands her emotional needs.

Also, the man is receptive to her needs and gives her the support she is asking for. Some couples tend to sleep in a variant of this position called the “star gazing” position where the two of them face the ceiling, but the woman rests her head on the man’s shoulder. While this position is as intimate as cradling, it calls for a little more communication and understanding between the couple.

There are some who need their space when sleeping and therefore keep some distance between each other and then have their legs intertwined. Leg hugging position says that you matter to each other, but are not very expressive or open about this fact, at least while you are awake.

This also means that you want each other’s attention, but are not ready to openly acknowledge it. In spite of all this, there’s a sense of balance and faith in the relationship, which you subtly express by touching each other’s legs. This posture is also common to couples who don’t like too much physical contact yet have a strong emotional connection.

Moving down the intimacy meter, the freedom finder position scores very less. Couples who have just had a battle or are disagreeing about some issue at this point of their lives sleep in this position. Sleeping in this posture also means that the spouses need some space and freedom without intrusions even from their significant others. Unlike the huggers, the freedom finders are individual entities and can do without each other. They don’t emotionally depend on each other and express a clear need for liberty.

The worst being the distanced together position. It is the way couples who have nothing in common sleep. They are on different wavelengths and have opposite or different perspectives on things. Also, if one tends to sleep with their head higher than the other, then the one on the top is more dominating and boisterous while the other is certainly subdued and chooses to disagree more humbly.

Experts say that if you and your partner sleep on the same level, there’s unanimity in the thought process and even more so if your heads touch each other’s while asleep. People who sleep together, but with some distance between them and also a difference in the level of their heads score probably the least on the intimacy scale. Which sleeping position best describes your relationship?

Sleeping next to someone has tremendous benefits for your health, starting from reducing stress to boosting immune system. But psychologists are also sure that sleeping positions can reveal a lot about the relationship between the partners and point out the unspoken problems.

Bulawayo Boys Dominate Warriors Squad

By James Gwati-Warriors coach, Zdravko Logarusic has dominated his 42-men squad facing Zambia and Botswana in the Afcon qualifiers with Bulawayo boys.

It seems the Croatian football manager, who on overall, has coached in four continents: Africa, Europe, Asia, Oceania and North America and has more than 20 years of coaching experience, has identified Bulawayo as the home of football.

Perhaps of interest is how his 16 players are drawn from every position: goalkeepers, defenders, midfielders and forwards. In short: there is a more than capable Bulawayo option for every imaginable position in Zdravko’s squad.

Lest we forget, 10 of the 16 ply their trade beyond our borders (Europe – two, Africa – eight) while only six play in Zimbabwe!

Marvelous Nakamba and Teenage Hadebe are the two players based in Europe. Divine Lunga, Peter Muduhwa, Butholezwe Ncube, Kudakwashe Mahachi, Thabani Kamusoko Prince Dube, Knox Mutizwa and Talbert Shumba ply their trades in South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.

US Based Zim Man Pounds Wife With Hammer, Sets Family Home On Fire

WASHINGTON – A Zimbabwean man faces a lengthy jail sentence in the United States after allegedly pounding his wife with a hammer and setting his family house on fire in a possible murder-suicide attempt.

Golden Makusha, 52, of 9600 Morning Walk Drive, Hagerstown, Maryland, has been charged with two counts of first and second-degree assault, respectively, arson in the first degree, two counts of reckless endangerment, and other offenses, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.

After hammering his wife in the frenzied attack, Makusha was found lying unconscious on top of an overturned mower in the garage with two vehicles on fire, an apparent arson.

He was flown to a medical facility where he remains hospitalized, police said.

Makusha’s bloodied wife, who was found at a neighbour’s house by responding officers, said the accused attempted to strangle her by wrapping his hands around her neck, and that when their adult child intervened, he tried to assault her.

Another child then dialed 911 and called the police as the two siblings escaped.

The wife said, “she was in bed and awoke to her husband beating her with a hammer.”

“The victim was covered in blood due to severe lacerations to the top and left side of her head. Injuries to her hands and arms were also observed,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

While emergency medical personnel were treating Makusha’s wife, the sheriff said, smoke started emitting from the couple’s residence garage, forcing firefighters to storm in, where they found Makusha “unconscious, lying on top of an upside-down push mower. A bottle of lighter fluid was located on the garage floor next to him.”

The sheriff added: “Two vehicles within the garage were actively burning when entry was made. Members of the Community Volunteer Fire Company of District 12, the Funkstown Volunteer Fire Company, the Halfway Volunteer Fire Company, and the Hagerstown Fire Department were on scene and extinguished the fire.”

“Makusha was removed from the garage and initially transported to Meritus Medical Center but later flown to Bay View Burn Center for further treatment. The victim was transported to Meritus Medical Center to treat her injuries; no one else was injured as a result of the incident.”

Makusha and his wife were said to have recently returned from a trip in Zimbabwe.

Discipline Gone Wrong As Irate Father Kicks Pregnant Daughter to Death

Discipline gone wrong? A Binga man was so angry when he discovered his teenage daughter was pregnant that he kicked her in the stomach leading to her death.

A court has since sentenced him to 10 years in jail.

Anderson Munkuli (47) of Lubu 4 in Chief Binga’s area went berserk when he discovered that his Form Four daughter Respect (17) was six months pregnant and wanted to get married to the person responsible for the pregnancy.

On April 24 last year, Munkuli summoned the man – who was not named in court – and he offered to marry the girl but Munkuli was opposed to the marriage, saying his daughter was still young and in school. A seething Munkuli armed himself with three spears and summoned his wife, Otilia and Respect. He ordered them to kneel before him and thrust a spear in front of each of them while he held the other, threatening to stab them.

Munkuli struck his wife three times with the handle of the spear before kicking the girl once on the stomach. Both fled in terror and sought refuge at a neighbour’s place where they stayed for 12 days as they were afraid to go home. The girl suffered abdominal pains after the assault but did not seek medical help.

She collapsed and died 12 days later on May 6. Munkuli was found not guilty of murder but guilty of a lesser charge of culpable homicide when he appeared before Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Martin Makonese who is on circuit in Hwange. He was also charged with physical abuse for the assault on his wife.

The judge implored parents and guardians to desist from using violence on children. He sentenced Munkuli to 10 years in jail but suspended two years for five years on condition of good behaviour. Prosecuting, Mrs Martha Cheda said Munkuli kicked Respect once in the stomach and punched her twice on the head on April 24, 2020.

“The accused entered a bedroom hut and came back armed with three spears. He shoved one spear near the deceased who was kneeling down and another closer to his wife and sat down on a stool holding the other which he used to hit his wife three times and the handle broke. He then kicked the deceased once on the stomach before punching her twice on the back of the head. The girl developed abdominal pains and died on May 6,” said Mrs Cheda.

Mrs Cheda said after the assault, Otilia and her daughter managed to escape and fled to a neighbour’s place. On May 6, Otilia decided to go back to her homestead leaving her daughter behind. Along the way, she discovered that the deceased was following her. The girl collapsed and died on the road. Ms Charity Manyeza of Ndove and Associates represented Munkuli pro-deo.

Chamisa Demands End To Ban On By-Elections Following Recall Of Six More Legislators

The Nelson Chamisa-led MDC Alliance yesterday demanded that government should lift the ban on by-elections, which it imposed citing COVID-19 prevention measures.

The opposition party said authorities should allow the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec) to hold by-elections after it lost over 50% of its parliamentary seats to recalls.

Parliament on Wednesday announced the recall of six MDC Alliance MPs, including Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Tendai Biti (Mt Pleasant), Settlement Chikwinya (Mbizo), Willias Madzimure (Kambuzuma), Regai Tsunga (Mutasa South), Kucaca Phulu (Nkulumane) and Sichelesile Mahlangu (Pumula) at the behest of the People’s Democratic Party.

This has resulted in 48 recalls since last year. While 15 seats for proportional representation MPs have been filled, several other seats need to be filled through by-elections.

The MDC Alliance garnered 88 seats in the National Assembly in the 2018 elections and recalls have weakened the opposition party.

MDC Alliance spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere yesterday said Zec should expedite the holding of by-elections.

“Zec has a constitutional obligation to hold elections and we have continuously stated that these should be held without delay. MPs have been selected by the people and the continued disregard for this social contract constitutes the greatest betrayal of the people. It undermines the democratic process and further weakens an already frail electoral system. Zimbabweans must not be shaken. We know worse is coming,” she said.

“We see clear connivance with Zanu PF surrogates to usurp the will of the people. The recall of Biti fully exposes the malicious intent of these recalls as he has been targeted for his role in outing corruption through PAC.

“The brazen capture of Parliament is a dangerous low by the regime. They have reduced Parliament to a circus, tainted it with Mnangagwa’s legitimacy crisis and deprived the people of legitimate representation.”

Mnangagwa’s Wife Jabbed

By A Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife Auxillia yesterday received her Covid-19 jab and urged other women and girls to follow suit as she continues to lead from the front in finding solutions to the coronavirus.

Speaking after receiving her jab, Auxillia said she was happy that this had taken place in the month of March which was dear to her.

“The month of March is very important to me, particularly because I was born in March and today I have been given my vaccination in the month of March. March also has been recognised as an international month for women. I am saying to the nation, women and girls, get vaccinated,” she said.

“This allows us to be free to go to church, to go to our community clubs, to go to work and also our children will be free to go to school. So I am encouraging all women and girls to make sure that they come for vaccination. This is an opportunity to protect ourselves as a nation against the pandemic. I have been vaccinated and I feel nothing and it’s not even painful.”

She urged women to continue observing Covid-19 protocols of masking up, washing hands with soap and running water and observing social distancing.

“Let’s not hug each other. Let’s not congregate at funerals and observe the stipulated numbers at church services. I am saying to women and girls, please come forward and be vaccinated. I am a woman like you and I have been vaccinated,” she said.

Mutodi Conned US$1400 By Bogus Clearing Agent At Beitbridge Border Post

Former Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Energy Mutodi was left counting losses at Beitbridge Border Post on Thursday evening when a bogus clearing agent he had engaged stole US$1400 from him.

The Goromonzi West parliamentarian who was travelling in a South African-registered Hummer had engaged the suspect known as Simbarashe Zinyakati to facilitate a smooth passage through the border.

The police officer commanding Beitbridge district, Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo was not readily available for comment.

However, an official within the Ferret team, which comprises the police and other security agents said Cde Mutodi hired the suspect on the South African border.

“The suspect managed to process the clearance formalities on the South African border and upon reaching Zimbabwe he demanded US$300 to process a Temporary Import Permit (TIP) for the foreign registered Hummer, which he failed to do after hitting a brick wall at Zimra.

The complainant then demanded back his money which he got back. He later discovered that the suspect had stolen US$1400 from his car when the man had left the border,” said the official.

The source said the matter was now under investigation and Zinyakati was yet to be accounted for.

Zanu PF Says Magufuli Fits In Africa’s Hall Of Fame

The ZANU PF party has described the late President of Tanzania as a man who worked tirelessly for the emancipation of Africans.

In a statement, the Zanu PF Secretary for Information and Publicity, Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said Zimbabwe mourns together with the people of Tanzania.

“The people’s Party ZANU PF has learnt with shock and sadness of the untimely passing on of His Excellency John Pombe Magufuli, the President of the Peoples Republic of Tanzania.

“A great statesman and loyal son of Africa, President Magufuli fits perfectly well in our Africa’s Hall of Fame, who loved our people and worked tirelessly towards the emancipation of Africans,” said Ambassador Moyo.

He described the late Tanzanian leader as a great friend of Zimbabwe and a Pan-Africanist.

“Indeed, President Magufuli won the affection of the people of Zimbabwe when he fearlessly and consistently called tor the removal of illegal sanctions on our people. It is not by mistake that the 25 October Anti-sanctions was adopted in Dar es Salaam at the SADC summit in 2019,” he added.

“A somber mood has engulfed Africa as we grieve the passing on of a dear friend. ZANU PF led by President and the First Secretary of the Party H.E Cde ED Mnangagwa sends its fraternal condolences to our Cdes and friends of Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) and the fraternal people of Tanzania. Chebundo Says Publicity Crazy Auxillia Mnangagwa Is Such A Good Mother

By Jane Mlambo| Former MDC Alliance senior member who recently joined Zanu PF together with Lillian Timveos, Blessing Chebundo has showed praises on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife Auxillia.

Chebundo was speaking at a ceremony in Kwekwe where Auxillia was donating to the less privileged.

Below are the words of Chebundo;

“I would like to give praise to God for giving us such a good mother for our nation, our First Lady,” Chebundo said.

“I have high regard for the First Lady. I am a history student and I love history a lot. I know that when building the future, you look at where you came from, where you are and where you are going.”

“Before independence, I was young, but I don’t recall if (Late Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian) Smith had a First Lady or not. I have never heard of her.

“Then there was (Abel) Muzorewa, I don’t remember ever hearing of a First Lady. At independence, I then heard about the mother of our country Sally Mugabe, then after that, the office of the First Lady was not clear,” he said, in apparent disparaging remarks aimed at Grace Mugabe, who was succeeded by Auxilia.

“Today, we are not presenting a historical account but something tangible. I am not saying this because she (Auxilia) is here.

“Over the last few years when I was still in opposition before coming home, I would, through the lenses of opposition. But while watching TV with my wife one day, we marvelled at her non-partisanship. Your actions will carry us forward as a nation Amai.

“Since independence, we have never seen such philanthropy, these are excellent works by the First Lady,” he said.

Man Bashes Own Mother …

A MUTARE man will perform 175 hours of unpaid work after he was convicted of assaulting his mother.

The man was accusing his mother of witchcraft.

Booker Mwedzi of Zimunya was convicted of assault charges when he appeared before a Mutare magistrate last weekend.

Mr Chris Munyuku prosecuted.

“On February 25, the complainant, Gogo Dephine Kanderera (59) heard her son Mwedzi shouting at home while she was in the field. Kanderera went to inquire what was happening and upon arrival, she saw Mwedzi seated at the doorstep.

He started shouting at her saying that she was a witch. Mwedzi assaulted Kanderera and she fell down,” said Mr Munyuku.

Mwedzi went into the house and armed himself with a hammer and a hoe. Gogo Kanderera managed to escape and informed one of their employees, Tendai Mapedza.

Gogo Kanderera went back to her house together with Mapedza and upon seeing them, Mwedzi grabbed a slasher intending to further assault his mother.

The old lady was rescued by Mapedza, who was also assaulted in the process.

A police report was made at Zimunya Police Post, thereby leading to Mwedzi’s arrest.- Manica Post

Diaspora Conned USD53K House-Purchase Cash

US dollars

A 32-year-old Bulawayo woman received US$53 000 to buy a house for her diaspora-based friend in the eastern suburbs, allegedly bought herself a house in the high-density suburbs and two cars with the money.

Annastancia Sibanda of 3 Clark Suburb Road in Bulawayo allegedly forged an agreement of sale, took a picture of a random house in Queenspark and sent it to her friend, Mary Matewele, saying she had fulfilled her assignment.

Sibanda, a court heard, bought herself a house in New Magwegwe for US$20 000, a Toyota land cruiser and a Nissan Tilda whose values were not mentioned in court.

As if this was not enough, Sibanda told her friend there was a shortfall of US$12 000 on the house that had to be settled in due course.

Sibanda pleaded guilty to one count of fraud before Bulawayo magistrate Ms Rachel, who granted her $20 000 bail. She will appear in court on March 30.

The State did not oppose bail as Ms Matewele is in the UK and it is not clear when she will return to the country.

Ms Mukanga ruled that Sibanda must report every Friday at CID Commercial Crimes in the Northern Region.

She was ordered to continue residing at her given address as part of her bail conditions and not to interfere with State witnesses until the matter was finalised. Sibanda’s lawyer, Mr Task Vhiki, consented to the bail conditions.

Prosecuting, Mr Terence Chakabuda said on an unknown date but sometimes in November 2020, Ms Matewele contacted Sibanda instructing her to look for a house on sale and buy it on behalf of her.

“Annastancia later contacted Ms Matewele informing her that she had found the house in Queenspark East for US$65 000. She instructed Ms Matewele to send the money. Ms Matewele sent a total amount of US$53 000 on different occasions,” said Mr Chakabuda.

The court heard that instead of purchasing the said property, Sibanda entered into an agreement of sale with Tembinkosi Wenha and purchased a house at US$20 000 in New Magwegwe for herself.

The State alleged that Annastancia went on to buy two vehicles, a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Nissan Tilda.

“To conceal the offence, Annastancia allegedly sent a picture of a fake agreement of sale claiming to have bought the house number 44 Angsely Road Queenspark on behalf of Ms Matewele from Thembinkosi Mpofu while indicating his mobile number. She further indicated that US$12 00 was outstanding,” added Mr Chakabuda.

The scam came to light when Ms Matewele contacted the seller Mr Mpofu who denied having sold his property to her.

She discovered that she had received a fraudulent agreement of sale and she made a police report through her son Tshepo leading to Sibanda’s arrest.

The complainant suffered an actual prejudice of US$53 000 and nothing was recovered. -Herald

Rude Awakening For Political Turnacoat Obert Gutu

Social media users yesterday blasted former MDC-T vice president Obert Gutu following his announcement that he would use the state owned Sunday Mail to explain his move to Zanu PF.

“WHY I JOINED @ZANUPF Official

Don’t miss my opinion piece to be published in the county’s leading weekly @ SundayMailZim on Sunday,March 21,2021,” reads Gutu’s tweet.

Former Cabinet Minister Walter Mzembi said Gutu does not owe anyone an explanation since it is his choice.

“Chitova it’s your choice, you do not owe anyone an explanation, just like the beard you are grooming is a personal choice! tweeted Mzembi.

Alouis Zananhwe said Gutu is bothering himself in trying to explain himself.

“Akungozvinetsawo nekuda kutipa explanation uyo.”

“Do you need a whole article to say l was trapped, my handlers have my DMs and other compromising  materials, and l needed some money so l jumped onto the gravy train,” Gerald Nyoni said.

Several opposition officials have crossed the flow to ZANU PF and a number of opposition Members of Parliament have been recalled there by weakening MDC A.

Bishop Impregnates Congregant

Mwonzora Orders MPs To Salute Mnangagwa

MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora has blocked Members of Parliament affiliated to his party from chanting slogans that denigrate President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Emmerson Mnangagwa

The move is likely to cement the commonly shared view that Mwonzora is a “Zanu PF project”, a charge he denies.

Mwonzora met his party MPs in Harare on Thursday where he read the riot act and ordered them to abandon the politics of hate in what will effectively stop the culture of walking out on Mnangagwa and singing anti-Zanu PF songs each time the President walks into the august House.

This has hitherto been synonymous with the opposition party since the contentious 2020 general elections when MPs under Nelson Chamisa’s MDC Alliance vowed not to recognise Mnangagwa’s legitimacy, accusing him of rigging the July 2018 harmonised elections.

“Our policy is not to boycott Parliament, even if Mnangagwa is addressing. It makes no sense at all when people elected our parliamentarians to go to Parliament and then they boycott or they are ordered to boycott by the party leadership,” Mwonzora’s spokesperson Lloyd Damba said.

“It is short-changing the electorate. Party parliamentarians must take their work seriously. The time to sing in Parliament and walking out is over.”

He added: “To disrespect Parliament is to disrespect the voters. We now have a mature leadership at the helm of the party and we need to take advantage of this to engage Zanu PF on meaningful national issues respectfully as adults.”

The MDC-T leader said MPs should engage in constructive debate in Parliament and urged them to reject laws enacted to further shrink the democratic space, including the Patriot Bill introduced in Parliament recently by Zanu PF.

The Bill seeks to criminalise negative utterances made about Zimbabwe and has been denounced by democratic forces and the opposition MDC Alliance.

Mwonzora urged his MPs to fully represent the people and condemn human rights abuses and other ills. -Newsday

No Hope For Beneficiaries Of Land Reform As Bank Loans Remain Inaccessible Despite 99-Year-Lease

Local banks are demanding personal assets, including houses as collateral to finance agriculture, amid the unresolved confusion over the bankability of 99-year leases.

Banks say the risk of financing farmers is too high since the land cannot be used as collateral due to tenure uncertainties.

A 99-year lease is a legally binding agreement between the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement, on behalf of the government, and the farmer — the lessee.

Government issued 99-year leases from 2006 to resettled farmers after the land redistribution exercise that began in 2000. However, banks have refused to use leases as collateral, arguing they are not bankable, citing that land still belongs to the State.

Finance and Economic Development minister Mthuli Ncube insists the government is looking at offering full and partial guarantees to banks for the acceptance of 99-year leases. But banks argue the process of redeeming land as collateral is shrouded in secrecy.

Bankers Association of Zimbabwe (BAZ) president Ralph Watungwa said talks stalled due to lack of transferability mechanisms of the 99-year lease. Lack of investments on the farms is a sticking issue.

Last year the government embarked on a farm downsizing programme, while underutilised land was repossessed.

“The starting point is that we must get farmers to believe they own the land and they should invest on farms. We have farmers who don’t want to invest but want to borrow frombanks. That’s the fundamental problem on the land issue,” he said.

“The problem is that there are certain sections of society who are not entitled to take over the land because they are not indigenous or don’t have the money. You can’t say you want to realise security andfind another Zimbabwe to buy the land; there are very few people like that. It means the ability of banks to realise value in the event that the customer is unable to pay becomes limited.”

Watungwa said according to the law, when one transfers land it has to be to the government.

“You don’t go to an auction to buy land like a house. With land it has to be to certain people. It means the value of the land as security then becomes questionable and banks would need to get their money back from the asset in the quickest possible time,” he said.

“A lot of banks are now financing agriculture using houses or another asset as security instead of the land. So it means that the land has no value. Again the process of making it bankable takes a long time because of the bureaucracy as the process requires legislative changes. It’s not an overnight thing. It requires a lot of stakeholders’ approval. But should the relevant authorities apply their minds, it’s a process that should not take two years.”

Horror As Mum Runs Over Son

A Mutare woman ran over her two-year-old son on Friday while reversing her car, resulting in his death a day later.

Police confirmed the incident that happened in Morningside.

“Reign Chinotsa died after he was run over by an Isuzu KB250 truck that was being driven by his mother, Regina Sengwe. She was reversing the car in their yard.

“A domestic worker, Charity Mtisi, left the boy on the ground as she went to open the gate. Reign was hit by the rear bumper of the truck and sustained head and chest injuries. He was rushed to Murambi Garden Clinic where he died the following day,” said Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda.

He said Sengwe did not report the matter to the police when the incident happened, but went on to do so after the boy’s death.

Insp Chananda said: “We urge motorists to exercise extreme caution and follow road rules like checking view and rear mirrors when reversing. This could have been avoided.”- Manica Post

Nkomo’s Son Wants To Take Over ZAPU

The late Vice-President and iconic statesman Joshua Nkomo’s son, Sibangilizwe, has been nominated as one of the candidates to contest for the opposition Zapu presidency.

Sibangilizwe Nkomo

So far no amendments to that effect have been proposed,” Ndlovu said.

“The people’s congress dates were shifted from April 15 to April 30, the venue remains unchanged at Bulawayo Amphitheatre and for the congress preparations as undertaken by the congress planning committee will continue, but adapting to the slight changes,” Maphosa said. Newsday

Depression And Lack Of Sleep: The Facts

8 Health Problems Linked to Not Getting Enough Sleep

Khan. Estimates suggest 15 to 20 percent of people diagnosed with insomnia will develop major depression.right up arrow

Horror As Man Kicks Pregnant Daughter To Death

The girl collapsed and died on the road.- Chronicle

“My Wife Wants To Kill Me”

Hardlife Ndlovu’s life is hard indeed.

Recently he stumbled on used condoms in his wife’s car which he believes is proof that she is being bonked outside their marriage.

Things are “hard” for him as instead of showing remorse, his wife is locking him out of the house and threatening to kill him.

Hardlife, who is from Pumula East suburb, has been facing a hard time at the hands of his wife, Amanda Moyo, who is in the habit of insulting him and issuing death threats.

The situation has reached another level as Amanda, who is a money changer operating near Tredgold Court, sometimes leaves the house locked and only returns home in the wee hours dead drunk.

Hardlife said when he asks her where she would be at, she insults him.

To lessen the hardship, he has approached the courts seeking a protection order against Amanda.

“I’m having problems with my wife Amanda Moyo. She locks me outside the house. And I sleep outside the house.

When I knock at the door, she insults me and threatens to kill me,” he said.

Hardlife went on to say he no longer feels safe and has suffered enough emotional abuse.

“She comes home in the early hours of the morning very drunk. When I ask her where she would’ve been, she gets angry, insults me and threatens to kill me,” he said.

Hardlife and Amanda, who have been customarily married for more than a year, have no children together while Amanda has two aged five and 14 from a previous marriage.

Hardlife told B-Metro that after the heartbreaking discovery of the used condoms he felt betrayed.

“On Thursday last week I went to a mine in Matopo to sell my stuff and when I came back on Friday I realised that I had left some of my documents in her car.

“As I was searching for them, I touched something soft under the passenger’s seat. I couldn’t believe my eyes when I discovered that there were three used condoms with semen inside. They were still fresh and wrapped in a tissue paper,” said Hardlife.

A heartbroken Hardlife said on the day he found the used condoms in his wife’s car, she came home late, dead drunk.

He further said early this year he busted his wife with one of her alleged lovers in her car.

“Early this year while I was at home one of her friends phoned me and asked me to come to town to see what my wife was doing. Upon arrival she directed me to a city bar where I found her getting cozy with her lover in her car.

“She apologised and promised me that she would never do it again. She has, however, shown me that she doesn’t reform at all. She is always drunk and on weekends she usually sleeps out claiming she will be at her friend’s place,” said Hardlife.- B-Metro
