Harare Businessman Hauled To Court For Bribery

By A Correspondent- Harare businessman Freddy Chimbari of Fremus Enterprises yesterday appeared in court facing bribery charges after he bribed officials at the Zimbabwe National Road Administration (Zinara) to win a US$20 million tender.

Chimbari appeared before magistrate Stanford Mambanje, who remanded him to May 7 on $50 000 bail.

It is alleged that from 2010 to 2013, Chimbari’s company was corruptly awarded a tender to carry out rehabilitation of rural roads in Buhera, Mhondoro, Ngezi, Gutu, Murehwa and Zaka without following due process.

Former Zinara chief executive Frank Chitukutuku allegedly instructed several rural district councils to award the tender to Fremus Enterprises.

The State further alleged that as a result of Chitukutuku’s order, Fremus Enterprises was offered the US$20 million tender.

On five different occasions after receiving the money, Chimbari allegedly deposited various amounts of money from his company to Chitukutuku’s personal account.

Investigations later revealed that Chimbari and Chitukutuku were friends and the payments constituted a gift or bribe.

Chimbari is alleged to have deposited US$114 000 to Chitukutuku’s personal bank account.

Chitukutuku is also on remand for the same matter.-newsday

Doctors Turn Down Cashless Policy Holders

By A Correspondent- A tussle has erupted between medical practitioners in the private sector and medical aid societies, as doctors are accused of turning down policy holders without cash co-payments due to health funders’ failure to settle claims.

Medical practitioners who spoke to the Zimbabwe Independent had no kind words for medical aid executives, whom they said lived lavishly from clients’ premiums.

The doctors said patients could barely afford medical bills since the cost of living continued skyrocketing. Patients are left with no option, but to turn to private doctors because the public health system is in a shambles underpinned by an acute shortage of medical equipment and medicines.

Health funders, doctors added, were failing to meet the demand for cover despite clients religiously paying subscriptions. This has complicated the situation, as medical doctors are forced to demand cash upfront from patients.

Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association president Johannes Marisa said they preferred payments in foreign currency.

“Private doctors are charging co-payments in foreign currency to ensure they remain viable and sustain operations in the medical industry,” Marisa said.

“It is unfortunate that medical aid societies are not paying health covers yet they are collecting monthly contributions from their clients.”

He went on: “Almost half of health funders don’t want to own up to their obligations to pay service providers. Survival of the private medical practice is hanging by a thread because some doctors have to fund for their own personal protective equipment and meet other costs of running hospitals.”

He blasted medical aid societies managers for driving top-of-the-range cars at a time patients’ needs were not met.

“The medical aid managers are the ones benefiting from the scheme as they are misusing funds for personal benefits. It’s not the doctors’ fault. For those few that own up to cover their clients, they pay in local currency which does not match with black market exchange rates in the United States dollars.”

Patients, however, have complained about doctors’ demand for foreign currency.

Some patients have petitioned private doctors to meet medical aid societies and resolve the issue.

Zimbabwe Senior Hospital Doctors Association president Shingai Nyaguse said the public must be educated on medical aid societies.

“Unfortunately the public tends to blame doctors on failed health insurances. Several medical aid societies are using clients’ monthly subscriptions for personal benefits like hefty packages. Medical aid generally pays well below the agreed tariffs, hence the shortfalls,” he said.

Zimbabwe Medical Association (Zima) tariff liaison committee chairperson Shingirirai Meki said doctors used best international practices to determine co-payments.

“I want to highlight the fact that medical aid payments and doctors failing to get their money on time has been happening for a longtime. However, over the years, we have been trying to solve the matter for the benefit of patients,” Meki said.

“If a medical aid has financial struggles, we might never know because it’s not declared publicly. On what is being charged by doctors versus medical aid reimbursements, there are tariffs that come from doctors (Zima), while health funders pay from collections. What then is paid by a patient is the difference we call a shortfall or co-payment.”

Meki said co-payment is charged to meet any outstanding amounts.

“As Zima, we stand guided by the Statutory Instrument that was gazetted by the government in 2014. The government then found a middle ground to set standard tariffs that we adhere to. It’s unfortunate that some medical aids have failed to pay tariffs set by the government. Patients are not being ripped off; it’s just that the medical aids sometimes fail to pay.”

No comment could be obtained from the Association for Healthcare Funders in Zimbabwe (AHFOZ) this week as officials were buck-passing.

AHFOZ has previously said medical aid societies were adjusting contributions to match healthcare service provider rates and narrow shortfall gaps.-Independent

Chebundo Showers Praise On Mnangagwa’s Wife

By Jane Mlambo| Former MDC Alliance senior member who recently joined Zanu PF together with Lillian Timveos, Blessing Chebundo has showed praises on President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife Auxillia.

Chebundo was speaking at a ceremony in Kwekwe where Auxillia was donating to the less privileged.

Below are the words of Chebundo;

“I would like to give praise to God for giving us such a good mother for our nation, our First Lady,” Chebundo said.

“I have high regard for the First Lady. I am a history student and I love history a lot. I know that when building the future, you look at where you came from, where you are and where you are going.”

“Before independence, I was young, but I don’t recall if (Late Rhodesian Prime Minister Ian) Smith had a First Lady or not. I have never heard of her.

“Then there was (Abel) Muzorewa, I don’t remember ever hearing of a First Lady. At independence, I then heard about the mother of our country Sally Mugabe, then after that, the office of the First Lady was not clear,” he said, in apparent disparaging remarks aimed at Grace Mugabe, who was succeeded by Auxilia.

“Today, we are not presenting a historical account but something tangible. I am not saying this because she (Auxilia) is here.

“Over the last few years when I was still in opposition before coming home, I would, through the lenses of opposition. But while watching TV with my wife one day, we marvelled at her non-partisanship. Your actions will carry us forward as a nation Amai.

“Since independence, we have never seen such philanthropy, these are excellent works by the First Lady,” he said.

Obert Gutu To Publish Opinion In State Media On Why He Joined Zanu Pf

Former MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu who recently joined the ruling party has been blasted on micro blogging Twitter after he told people to look forward to his opinion in Sunday Mail on why he joined ZANU PF.

“WHY I JOINED @ZANUPF Official

Former Cabinet Minister Walter Mzembi said Gutu does not owe anyone an explanation since it is his choice.

“Chitova it’s your choice, you do not owe anyone an explanation, just like the beard you are grooming is a personal choice! tweeted Mzembi.

Alouis Zananhwe said Gutu is bothering himself in trying to explain himself.

“Akungozvinetsawo nekuda kutipa explanation uyo.”

“Do you need a whole article to say l was trapped, my handlers have my DMs and other compromising  materials, and l needed some money so l jumped onto the gravy train,” Gerald Nyoni said.

Several opposition officials have crossed the flow to ZANU PF and a number of opposition Members of Parliament have been recalled there by weakening MDC A.

Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi Says I Am Lucky To Be Alive

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ziyambi Ziyambi says he is fortunate to be alive after battling a Covid-19 related illness for several weeks and is using his near-death experience to urge adherence to regulations aimed at controlling the spread of the pandemic.

Minister Ziyambi tested positive for Covid-19 at the end of December 2020, before being admitted to hospital where a number of doctors, including those from the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS), attended to him after his condition deteriorated.

During the period that he was ill, several Government ministers and high ranking Zanu-PF officials succumbed to the novel virus. Ziyambi, who is Zanu-PF provincial chair for Mashonaland West, recounted his experience to fellow party cadres during a Provincial Coordinating Committee (PCC) meeting in Chinhoyi last Saturday.

Ziyambi implored party officials to get vaccinated once the second and third vaccination phases were introduced, saying Covid-19 was real.

“I am a survivor of Covid-19 and the disease is painful and deadly. I lost a lot of colleagues and many cadres here in Mashonaland West province.

“We lost Minister Ellen Gwaradzimba, Foreign Affairs Minister, Sibusiso Moyo, former ZPCS Commissioner General, Paradzai Zimondi and my dear friend, (Joel Biggie) Matiza,” the visibly emotional, Ziyambi said.

The late Matiza was the Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development.

“I become very emotional when I talk about these losses because the majority of the incidents happened when I was indisposed and in hospital.”

The minister recounted how ZPCS doctors who were treating him instructed the nursing staff to take away the television remote control unit and cellphones to cut outside communication and information. “The doctors were afraid I could get affected by the news of the deaths.”

He said Covid-19 was not only affecting urban communities, but ravaging rural areas as well.

“When I survived the pandemic, I was shocked to hear of a lot of people who had succumbed to the virus in Zvimba rural which shows how the disease has become even more deadly.”

‘Macheso Has No Intention Of Joining Politics’

Sungura maestro Alick Macheso has dismissed reports that he is joining politics and angling to become a Member of Parliament in the 2023 elections.

This comes after reports started circulating on social media platforms claiming that Macheso intends to contest for the Gutu West parliamentary seat in the 2023 elections. However, the ace sungura musician refuted claims that he is angling to join politics.

Macheso said that he is content with being a musician and expressed shock at the reports linking him with politics.

Macheso’s manager Tich Makahamadze said that his client has no intention of joining politics at any point in the future Makahamadze said that reports about Macheso joining politics are better of being released on April Fools day because they are so ridiculous.

The manager also told The Herald that Macheso has been spending a lot of tie at his farm in Chivhu due to the downturn caused by the restrictions from the Covid-19 lockdown. This resulted in some people claiming that Macheo Macheso was mobilising support on the ground and was spending time with villagers.

‌In unrelated news, the Zimbabwe Republic Police has dismissed the reported break-in at the office of Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) chairperson Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo as a false alarm.

The police said that according to investigations carried out by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), no break-in occured at the offices. According to the police, an old curtain rail moved on its own due to wear and tear, and in the process moved a ceiling panel, giving the appearance that the office had been broken into.

The police went on to say that thorough investigations by crime scene investigators from the CID had established that there was no break-in and that nothing had been tampered with or stolen.

Luke-ing the Beast in the Eye: The Youth Must Rise …… .. to the national challenge

By Luke Tamborinyoka| The census scheduled for later this year will yet again confirm that the youth as a demographic group constitute the majority of the country’s population. As we stand on the cusp of the decisive phase of our democratic struggle, this generation whose future has been squandered by the clueless and corrupt elite in government must stand up and play a more prominent role in positively shaping their lived circumstances and their future.

Throughout history and across jurisdictions, it is the youth that have stood up to the mediocrity of their time and engendered truly new dispensations that infused a renewed sense of hope about the future. Across the world, young people have always been the torch-bearers in the unstinting quest for freedom, democracy, decency and dignity.

It was the young people in Zimbabwe that took up arms and confronted the colonial Smith regime. But times have changed. Today’s youth may have to robustly use other arsenal such as the soft power of their twitter and blog universe to express their utmost revulsion against the deteriorating human rights and governance system in the country.

In Tunisia in 2011, it was 26-year old Mohamed Bouazizi who ignited the revolution that reaped a democratic dividend for an entire sub-region. On the 14th of January the same year, dictator Ben Ali had no choice but to flee to Saudi Arabia.

It was equally these young people that led similarly popular but morally legitimate protests in Yemen, Jordan, Algeria and Oman in what became popularly known as the Arab Spring.

On 25 January 2011, droves of mainly young people numbering about 50 000 poured into Tahrii Square in downtown Cairo in a huge mass protest against Hosni Mubarak.

It was similarly audacious young men and women who perished for a legitimate quest at Sharpeville in apartheid South Africa. It was the same revolutionary generation that tore down the Berlin Wall. It was young people that stoically stood before the armed taunt at Tiananmen Square in China in June 1989.

The youth have always been a revolutionary generation; a generation that neither accepts nor tolerates killer regimes such as the illegitimate lot in Harare. A regime dripping in the blood of innocent citizens. An autocracy that has captured all institutions of the State as part of a wicked, sinister and morally reprehensible plot to decimate the legitimate opposition in the country.

In Zimbabwe, the young generation of short skirts and sagging jeans must step up to the plate. The short skirts are reflective of the shortened life expectancy and the short-sightedness of their leaders, if not the abundant opportunities that have skirted the young generation. And it is not just their jeans that are sagging, but their hopes and aspirations as well!

For the youth of this country, the horizon has been misted by a clueless government that couped its way into office amid a false clamour of creating jobs under the equally false mantra of ” Zimbabwe is Open for Business .” Yet the country is shut for hope—with the only jobs created being those for Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Karanga tribesmen and tribeswomen from Masvingo and the Midlands provinces.

As I said last week, even the staggered, choreographed defections have a tribal and regional flavour to them. Only 48 hours ago, Obert Gutu, a Karanga of the Madyirapazhe totem who comes from the Gutu area of Masvingo and James Mzkore, of Mnangagwa’s Shumba Murambwi totem and who like him also comes from Chivi, defected from Douglas Mwonzora’s surrogate and treacherous outfit to Zanu-PF. Mwonzora’s outfit is essentially Zanu PF and one wonders what the “defection” hype was all about. You don’t defect from Zanu-PF to Zanu-PF. Not so much of a defection there— in the same way that any shift from the lounge to the bedroom of the same house should never be misconstrued as a relocation!

Indeed, even the defections are tribalistic and nepotistic, further betraying the primitive and base instincts of the man who pilfered his way to State House.

The youth of this country must rise to the challenge. They must confront this dictatorship within the confines permissible under our national Constitution. As they say, the real problem in troubled countries such as ours has never been civil disobedience. The real problem that needs tackling has been civil obedience to autocracy, nay the acquiescence and sheepish succumbing to the murderous traits of this piranha, blood-soaked political elite that has murdered and repressed citizens since November 2017. Civil disobedience through a loud, deafening expression of revulsion channeled through peaceful protests is certainly permissible under section 59 of Zimbabwe’s Constitution.

It is not the aim of this treatise to be contemptuous of the effort and gallantry of today’s youth. This is an exhortation for them to do far much more. The youth of this country have bravely borne the brunt of this blood-soaked regime. Tawanda Muchehiwa, Obey Sithole, Gift Ostallos Siziba, Takudzwa Ngadziore, Stephen “Sakorzy” Tshuma, Makomborero Haruzivishe, Allan Moyo, the MDC Alliance trio of Joannah Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova and several other youths throughout the country have been in the eye of the storm.

But they must certainly go bryond the puny effort of isolated individuals. It must be a monumental seismic shift spawned by an entire generation. The situation in Zimbabwe now demands a peaceful but sonorous expression by an entire demographic group. As a generation and not as scattered individuals, the youth of this country must rise to the level of—and even surpass the magnitude of—the grievous national challenges authored by the voluminous mediocrity and illegitimacy now engulfing the entire body politic.

The youth of this country must not listen to a lying regime that has captured all State institutions, uses paid surrogates to recall elected representatives and peddles the mistruth that it values the next generation and yet saddles that same generation with huge debts. In the case of Zimbabwe, the regime will bequeath to the next generation a ballooning but astounding external debt that currently stands in excess of US$11 billion.

An analogue regime of geriatrics will never understand the demands of the twitter and blog generation. They are too old to address the concerns of a generation still favoured with boundless energy and enthusiasm. A generation whose veins are copiously throbbing restless blood ( kutemwa dzinobva ropa ) Zanu PF has always operated outside the orbit of this generation of boundless energy and hope. Towards the election of 2013, I joked with President Tsvangirai, then the Prime Minister of Zimbabwe, when I intimated to him that had he been in Zanu PF, he would have been a member of the party’s youth league. I said this because when Morgan Tsvangirai contested the 2013 ejection as a 61-year old leader of his party, his age-mate, Absolom Sikhosana, was the leader of the Zanu-PF youth league and represented the digital generation’s interests in the party’s Politburo. A dinosaural party with such proclivities is certainly caught up in a time warp and can never understand the demands of today’s generation. Zanu PF is a party living outside its moment, like a typewriter in an Internet cafe’!

Indeed, and as the illustrious Morgan Tsvangirai used to say: Yesterday’s people cannot solve today’s problems. Today’s problems need today’s people and Zanu PF and its leaders are certainly yesterday’s people who can never muster enough knowledge to steer and manage a modern economy.

Two weeks ago, the people’s President, Advocate Nelson Chamisa, himself a doyen of today’s crop of dynamic leaders, presented his party’s agenda for the year 2021 and set the tone for the major political business of this year. It was an address that spawned trepidation across the corridors of stolen power and invited all sorts of invective— including even laughable threats of arrest.

In that address, the people’s President said in the year 2021, all citizens will be converging for change. He spoke of a broad front of collective citizen-led effort to tackle the challenges of our time. He spoke of a robust but peaceful, Constitutional and legitimate programme in which the youth will play a decisive part. The people’s President said the youth have an important role to play in the Citizens’ Convergence for Change agenda item. President Chamisa even made reference to the late Father Zimbabwe, the iconic Joshua Nkomo’s speech in which the liberation stalwart said the youth will ultimately save Zimbabwe and will not allow it to die.

We have now reached the penultimate stage where, if need be, it must be us the people and not the country that must die.

After all, it is the youth that have become seriously prejudiced by the ineptitude of this our scarfed regime. It is the youth that have turned to drugs and other addictive substances to seek an “escape” from their tenuous lived circumstance. We have become a country of degreed vendors and graduate small-time traders. In return, the corrupt elite in government is nowhere to be seen when it comes to addressing the concerns and grievances of this victim generation, turning up only to shed crocodile tears when popular youths die as as they did at the funerals of dancehall musician Soul Jah Love and actress Anne Nhira. The purpose is always to score cheap political points.

For God’s sake, the youth of this country want State-assisted opportunities in their lifetime, not State-assisted funerals at their deaths!

Indeed, ours has become mortuary government—a wicked funeral home that turns up to shed crocodile tears at the funerals of its victims. The regime has presided over the collapse of basic social services such as health and education. Soul Jah Love needed a functioning health institution to attend to his diabetic condition when he was still alive while Anne Nhira had fled to South Africa to fend for opportunities in a foreign land. It is telling that she was murdered while coming from a prayer in the mountain in South Africa, having to seek divine intervention in her parlous lived circumstance.

And this piece is not meant to incite anyone. It is simply a proposition to give insight. In any case, it is not criminal to incite a repressed people to exercise their democratic right by seeking succour and sanatorium in section 59 of a people’s Constitution that they wrote themselves and affirmed in a referendum.

It does not help that sometimes the youth have collectively become lily-livered when it comes to confronting this regime, choosing only to turn up in their huge numbers and siege Harare central business district to mourn and view the coffin of my distant relative, Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure, my dear brother from my hood in Domboshava while dismally failing to crowd the cities in similar fashion to vent out their grievances against the scarfed regime of Mr Mnangagwa—a regime that has dismally failed their generation. A government that has made them hewers of wood and drawers of water both in their own motherland and in foreign lands where they are slugging it out to earn a living.

As a generation, the youth of this country must rise to the moment. Collectively, the despondent youths of my land must soar to the magnitude of the challenges impeding and blighting them from inheriting a bright future. The rest of the citizenry will support their patriotic effort to safeguard their future.

The responsibility to defend the future must mainly lie in those that are genuine stockholders in that future—the youth of this land.

It is none but themselves!

CIO Says Susan Mutami’s Son Secretly Kept At Mnangagwa’s Kwekwe Farm.

BREAKING NEWS

maize at farms file pic

A self confessed CIO agent has written in claiming that Norton MP Temba Mliswa’s exlover, Susan Mutami who disappeared last month is safe, and is living at a house in Harare. They go on to allege that she has been separated from her child- her son is now staying at Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s farm in Kwekwe. ZimEye investigates into the mystery surrounding Miss Mutami’s whereabouts.

letter from self confessed CIO agent.

By A Correspondent | Today marks one month and one day after Norton MP, Temba Mliswa’s girlfriend, Susan Mutami was stopped from flying out of Zimbabwe, following her allegations that she possesses knowledge on the terrorists who bombed White City Stadium in June 2018. ZimEye launches a search for her whereabouts- is she in Zimbabwe or in Australia?

Susan Mutami

This is Brisbane, where Susan Mutami resides and we check today check on her at her usual addresses. This is St Vincent’s Private Hospital, Brisbane, where she could be employed and where her mother, Rabecca works.

Susan herself used to work here as a Care Assistant.

We are told, “she is not here; she has not been seen in several months.”

We cannot reveal the identity of interviewee at the hospital, per their request.

We now head to Princess Alexandra Hospital. Susan Mutami is not here. Sources tell ZimEye she is not here at all.

The Hospital was placed into lockdown after a positive #COVID19 case was detected 3 days ago. But we manage to speak to a source via phone who responds saying:

“For legal purposes. I cannot say much, but the person you are asking for no longer works here,” a female employee tells ZimEye.

It also turns out Susan cannot work there anymore as she was fired over continued absenteeism, the day before she travelled to Zimbabwe last year.

We now turn to Durack, the place where Susan can only come when she arrives into the country. This is where she lives.

Two of Susan’s closest friends tell ZimEye, they do not believe she is anywhere in Australia. “If she comes back into the country she will come here first, ” one of her colleagues says while asking not to be identified due to the political sensitivities around her case in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, as Susan’s mother Rabeccca does not appear willing to speak with journalists, we turn back to Susan herself.

We send her two messages, one becomes, blueticked, the other is still to be opened.

1st message: “Hello Susan. Are you okay? You’ve gone suddenly quiet. Strength to you!”

2nd message: “Many are worried over you. When are you traveling to Australia?”

There is no reply at all, and neither does she pick the phone up, which is not characteristic of her.

As her Zimbabwean phone sounds disconnected, her two Australian numbers all lead to her voicemail boxes. They have been in this state for nearly month.

Where is Susan then, and is she the one who is tweeting on her portal in the last month? A structured content audit of her tweets suggests someone else is publishing the posts. Terms like FDI, and economy do not form her known vocabulary.

When she was stopped from flying out of Zimbabwe on the 18th February, she quickly sought the help of lawyers and began referring journalists to them. Her solicitor last month told ZimEye, “she is alive, she is ok and she is safe.

“I can’t say much due to professional ethics; She will come back to you soon,” she said without revealing much detail.

ZimEye checked on the position of the Australian Embassy in Harare whose assistance she invoked last month, and found in their statement they have distanced themselves from Miss Mutami’s case saying her private conduct in Zimbabwe does not fall under the embassy’s interests.

“Ms Mutami’s behaviour in Zimbabwe are matters for the Zimbabweans authorities as they fall under Zimbabwean law,” the Australian embassy said in a statement responding to her affair with Norton MP Temba Mliswa.

ZimEye today returns to the Australian Embassy for further comment as we investigate Susan Mutami’s whereabouts.

WHERE DO YOU THINK SUSAN MUTAMI IS?

The Shell Shocking Picture Of Unknown Man Who Recalled Biti From Parliament | DO YOU KNOW THIS CRIMINAL?

Hwende Squares Off With Mnangagwa | FULL TEXT

MDC Alliance Secretary General Charlton Hwende

By Kuwadzana MP, Hon Charlton Hwende | The latest illegal recalls of MDC Alliance MPs by the regime are an assault on electoral democracy. The panicking ZANU PF regime is using its surrogates in the opposition to violate the will of the voters who elected the MPs in order to entrench itself. PDP did not contest parliamentary elections in 2018 and it is both absurd and preposterous that the Speaker of Parliament can allow a political party to recall MPs that it did not field or sponsor.

This is both irrational and unconstitutional. Its the clearest sign that the Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda who is supposed to be fair and neutral is a kept man. A compromised speaker is a clear and present danger to the institution of parliament. Its time for all progressive citizens to converge and confront this military dictatorship.

Man Kills Pregnant Daughter

Discipline gone wrong? A Binga man was so angry when he discovered his teenage daughter was pregnant that he kicked her in the stomach leading to her death.

A court has since sentenced him to 10 years in jail.

Anderson Munkuli (47) of Lubu 4 in Chief Binga’s area went berserk when he discovered that his Form Four daughter Respect (17) was six months pregnant and wanted to get married to the person responsible for the pregnancy.

On April 24 last year, Munkuli summoned the man – who was not named in court – and he offered to marry the girl but Munkuli was opposed to the marriage, saying his daughter was still young and in school. A seething Munkuli armed himself with three spears and summoned his wife, Otilia and Respect. He ordered them to kneel before him and thrust a spear in front of each of them while he held the other, threatening to stab them.

Munkuli struck his wife three times with the handle of the spear before kicking the girl once on the stomach. Both fled in terror and sought refuge at a neighbour’s place where they stayed for 12 days as they were afraid to go home. The girl suffered abdominal pains after the assault but did not seek medical help.

She collapsed and died 12 days later on May 6. Munkuli was found not guilty of murder but guilty of a lesser charge of culpable homicide when he appeared before Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Martin Makonese who is on circuit in Hwange. He was also charged with physical abuse for the assault on his wife.

The judge implored parents and guardians to desist from using violence on children. He sentenced Munkuli to 10 years in jail but suspended two years for five years on condition of good behaviour. Prosecuting, Mrs Martha Cheda said Munkuli kicked Respect once in the stomach and punched her twice on the head on April 24, 2020.

“The accused entered a bedroom hut and came back armed with three spears. He shoved one spear near the deceased who was kneeling down and another closer to his wife and sat down on a stool holding the other which he used to hit his wife three times and the handle broke. He then kicked the deceased once on the stomach before punching her twice on the back of the head. The girl developed abdominal pains and died on May 6,” said Mrs Cheda.

Mrs Cheda said after the assault, Otilia and her daughter managed to escape and fled to a neighbour’s place. On May 6, Otilia decided to go back to her homestead leaving her daughter behind. Along the way, she discovered that the deceased was following her. The girl collapsed and died on the road.- Chronicle

City Director Arrested

Gweru City Council’s director of housing and community services, Shingirayi Tigere has been arrested for criminal abuse of office.
Tigere was arrested on Wednesday by the police working with the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) over the manner in which he allegedly sold a stand to Gweru Mayor Councillor Josiah Makombe last year.

The stand which is listed as the remainder of Lot number 17 of Umsungwe block, was allegedly sold to Clr Makombe without approval from the engineering department.

The Ministry of Local Government and Public Works said the stand is in a reserved area and acquisition by Clr Makombe without change of land use contravened Section 49 (3) of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act (Chapter 29:12).

After selling the stand, Tigere allegedly then sought Ministerial approval for change of ownership, a process which Gweru Council ought to have started with.

It is council standard operating procedure that the engineering department first surveys the land before recommending its use.

In this case, Tigere allegedly sold the stand to Clr Makombe without the engineering department’s approval.

In addition, there was no ministerial approval of change of use of the land in question as is standard procedure. Tigere is expected to appear in court today. His lawyer, Mr Esau Mandipa of Mutatu and Mandipa Legal Practice confirmed his client’s arrest.

He said Tigere was being charged with criminal abuse of office as defined in the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

“I can confirm that my client was arrested by the police in connection with a stand that he allegedly sold to the Mayor Councillor Josiah Makombe.

“They alleged that he didn’t follow some procedures. He is expected to appear in court tomorrow (today),” said Mr Mandipa.

According to documents in possession of this publication, Tigere offered Clr Makombe the stand on May 13 last year following a full council meeting which recommended that he be sold the stand at 40 percent discount.

“I am pleased to offer you stand number Remainder of Lot number 17 of Umsungwe block measuring 7 801square metres. The stand is not serviced. The cost price of the stand is $166 735.00. The purchase price after factoring in 40 percent discount amounting to $66 694.14 is $100 041.00,” wrote Tigere.

However, on June 23 last year, the then City of Gweru director of engineering services Engineer Robson Manatsa wrote to council saying the alleged land was subject to planning.

Tigere therefore allegedly showed favour to Clr Makombe by selling him the stand which was still subject to planning.-Chronicle

Wife Bashes Husband Accusing Him Of Failing to Impregnate Her

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

WELL, isn’t that strange that a woman assaults her husband while accusing him of being weak and failing to impregnate her.

Wonder no more, because this has happened after a man from Chademana Village in Zaka area, Masvingo province sued his in-laws demanding back his lobola claiming his wife was savagely beating him up over his inability to impregnate her.

Reports gathered by B-Metro are that Jethro Mundanga had been constantly assaulted by his wife Kudzai Mabhiza to an extent that he moved out of their matrimonial home to stay with his relatives.

The two, Mundanga and Mabhiza had been customarily married for 10 years and their marriage had not been blessed with a child, leading the latter to suspect that it was her husband who had a problem since she had a child from her previous marriage.

It was also gathered that the relatives tried to intervene in the matter to no avail. The situation became worse when Mabhiza started bashing her husband each time they picked up a quarrel.

According to a source, Mundanga, who apparently felt his wife had lowered his dignity and could no longer live with her, approached Chief Ndanga’s traditional court where he narrated his sad love story while demanding that his lobola should be returned.

“He approached Chief Ndanga’s traditional court demanding that his in-laws should pay back his money and two beasts because his wife had turned him into a laughing stock by constantly assaulting him in front of neighbours and relatives while accusing him of being weak because he was unable to give her children.

“She was always shouting obscenities at him, something that makes Mundanga feel not good enough for her. At one time she even forcibly removed his pair of trousers after he came home drunk and in the process she was shouting at him saying he was wasting his energy on beer,” the source said.

Added the source: “That was actually very sad such that Mundanga moved out of the house to stay with a relative and later approached Chief Ndanga’s traditional court demanding that his in-laws should refund him his lobola since their daughter was always deriding him saying he was not man enough.”

Chief Ndanga could neither confirm nor deny the incident. “There is nothing I can say at the moment and I will be at liberty to comment on the matter once I preside over it.

“This is because at the moment there are a lot of cases which accrued because of Covid-19 regulations which were prohibiting people from gathering and moving from one place to another,” said Chief Ndanga.

Anne Nhira Burial Preps

The late actress Anne Nhira is likely to be buried in Harare on Saturday or Sunday, depending on when her body would have arrived from South Africa, the family said yesterday.

Popularly known as Vimbai Jari from yesteryear soap Studio 263, Nhira died of injuries after she was attacked by unknown assailants in Bedfordview, Johannesburg, on Monday last week.

She is alleged to have suffered injuries on her chest, rib cage and back and died three days later. A docket for a murder case has been opened in South Africa.

Family spokesperson Florence Ziyambi, who is also the legal adviser to the President and Cabinet, told NewsDay Life & Style that burial was likely to be tomorrow or Sunday.

“Burial day depends with the arrival of the body, but we had arranged that if the body arrives on Friday (today), the burial will be on Saturday (tomorrow) at Zororo Memorial Park. We are, however, hopeful that Nyaradzo Funeral Services will finish the paperwork by tomorrow (today). If they arrive on Saturday, we will have it (burial) on Sunday,” she said.

Ziyambi said much of the repatriation paperwork had been processed and Nyaradzo was working towards getting a travelling permit.

“Yesterday (Wednesday) they managed to obtain the burial order and the death certificate. So today (yesterday), they are processing papers to get a non-infectious disease certificate from the South Africa’s Ministry of Health and another one comes from this side,” she said.

“The papers are then taken to Home Affairs ministry (South Africa) and they will prepare a permit. Then if everything is ready, Nyaradzo will prepare the body to travel (for repatriation). We don’t know whether they will be through by the end of the day, but that is our assumption. If they do, they will then travel by road tomorrow (today). We will keep you posted.”

Government has since granted Nhira (38) a State-assisted funeral for her contribution to the showbiz sector. Mourners are gathered at number 3429 Manyame Park, Chitungwiza. – state media

Woman Stabbs Husband Over $ 30 Dispute

A woman from Iminyela suburb stabbed her husband twice with a kitchen knife after he asked why she used $30 meant to buy vegetables to buy a candle.

When Thabisani Ndlovu (28), who is a security guard, came home after 7.30 pm last week on Friday, his wife Tholakele Nyathi asked for money to buy vegetables.

According to Ndlovu he told her to take the $30 he gave her to buy vegetables, but Tholakele told him that she bought a candle. After that an argument broke out.

“While I was questioning her why she bought a candle instead of buying vegetables she got angry and started to accuse me of ill- treating her. An argument ensued. She then ran to the kitchen and fetched a kitchen knife which she used to stab me once on the left armpit and once on the waist. I fell and bled,” he said.

His neighbour Mqondisi Sibanda had to phone Ndlovu’s brother who quickly came.

“His brother Mgcini Ndlovu swiftly came and bandaged him. After that he phoned an ambulance which ferried him to Mpilo Central Hospital. He was admitted to Ward A2 and has since been discharged as his condition is improving,” said Sibanda.

Ndlovu said despite what his wife did to him, he forgave her.

“I would have to forgive her for the sake of our children. I have three children with her aged one year, four years and the other one is eight years old. I would take that as a mistake because naturally she is ‘cheeky’ and she easily gets angry,” said Ndlovu.

Tholakele has been arrested and is expected to appear in court soon.

Schoolboys Rape Minor(7)

Two pupils from How Mine Secondary School have been arrested after they allegedly raped a seven-year-old minor at a community hall.

A family member, who spoke to B-Metro on condition of anonymity, said the two suspects were aged 14 and 15 years old.

The family source said the 15-year-old teenager masterminded the rape ordeal by giving the grade two pupil sweets and after that inviting the minor to a community hall to play.

When they got there he played with the unsuspecting child and after some minutes they were joined by his 14-year-old friend, the source said.

A source close to investigations said one of the rape suspects undressed the minor and the two then took turns to rape her.

After the act the 15-year-old gave the minor more sweets so as to buy her silence, said the source.

The source said after the ghastly act, the minor bled and walked with difficulty. Her mother got suspicious when she saw her walking in that state and asked what happened to her, the source said.

She revealed to her mother that the two boys took her to a community hall to play and later raped her and gave her sweets so that she would not tell anyone.

The mother took the child to How Mine clinic, where she was referred to United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH), where the minor was examined and it was confirmed that the child was raped.

She reported the rape incident at How Mine police base leading to the arrest of the two suspects.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident: “ We would like to urge parents and guardians to always monitor their children and warn them not to agree to play at a secluded place. And they have to report to their parents any person who acts suspiciously to them.- B- Metro

Hon Biti Recall From Parliament- A Zanu PF Strategy To Thwart Fight Against Corruption

Tinashe Sambiri| The recall of Hon Tendai Biti from Parliament is a Zanu PF gambit meant to thwart the fight against corruption, MDC Alliance spokesperson, Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has said.

Advocate Mahere argues Zanu PF is afraid of transparent processes.

In a statement the MDC Alliance said Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration recalled Hon Biti from Parliament to thwart his anti-corruption drive:

“Mnangagwa’s anti-people, dictatorial regime has unlawfully recalled VP
@BitiTendai
from Parliament to thwart his anti-corruption drive in the Public Accounts Committee. He was due to table the ZINARA & Command Agriculture Reports & was leading the ZESA & Land Baron Inquiries…”

Advocate Mahere wrote on Twitter:
“The recall of
@BitiTendai
for exposing corruption through the Public Accounts Committee is a dangerous new low for the regime.

They’ve reduced Parliament to a circus & usurped the will of the people. How can a random, unauthorized person wake up to recall a duly elected official?

Symptoms Of Vitamin B12 Deficiency

7 Common Nutrient Deficiencies: Know the Signs
The hidden cause of common symptoms such as fatigue and muscle aches could be a nutrient deficiency.

By Elizabeth Shimer Bowers and Moira Lawler

You may think nutrient deficiencies are a thing of the past, experienced only by sailors on long sea voyages. But even today, it’s possible to lack some of the essential nutrients your body needs to function optimally.

“Nutrient deficiencies alter bodily functions and processes at the most basic cellular level,” says Tricia L. Psota, PhD, RDN, a lecturer in the exercise and nutrition sciences department at the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health in Washington, DC. “These processes include water balance, enzyme function, nerve signaling, digestion, and metabolism. Resolving these deficiencies is important for optimal growth, development, and function.”

Nutrient deficiencies can also lead to diseases. “For example, calcium and vitamin D deficiencies can cause osteopenia or osteoporosis, two conditions marked by brittle bones,” says Kate Patton, RD, a dietitian at the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio. “And inadequate iron can cause anemia, which zaps your energy.”

Telltale symptoms are usually the first clue that you are low in one or more important vitamins or minerals, says Patton. Here’s how to recognize seven common nutrient deficiencies.

  1. Calcium: Numb, Tingling Fingers and Abnormal Heart Rhythm
Calcium is important for maintaining strong bones and controlling muscle and nerve function, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Signs of severely low calcium include numb, tingling fingers and abnormal heart rhythms, says the Cleveland Clinic. That said, there are no short-term, obvious symptoms of calcium deficiency.

Most adults need 1,000 milligrams (mg) of calcium each day, though women over 50 and men over 70 need 1,200 mg, per the Mayo Clinic. Patton says you’ll likely get enough from at least three servings of milk or yogurt a day. Cheese is another good source of calcium, but if you’re not big on dairy, you can find this nutrient in calcium-fortified orange juice or breakfast cereal (check the nutrition facts label of the food to see if calcium has been added), and dark leafy greens like kale and broccoli, according to the NIH.

  1. Vitamin D: Fatigue, Bone Pain, Mood Shifts, and More
This vitamin is another that’s crucial for bone health and may also prevent some cancers, according to the Cleveland Clinic. Symptoms of a vitamin D deficiency can be vague — fatigue, bone pain, mood changes, and muscle aches or weakness may set in.

“If it goes on long term, a vitamin D deficiency can lead to softening of the bones,” Psota says. Long-lasting deficiency also may be linked with cancers and autoimmune diseases, says Michelle Zive, an NASM-certified nutrition coach based in San Diego.

According to the NIH, most adults need 15 micrograms (mcg) of vitamin D each day, and adults older than 70 need 20 mcg. Patton suggests having three servings of fortified milk or yogurt daily and eating fatty fish, such as salmon or tuna, twice a week, as these are foods that contain vitamin D; spend some time outside in the sunshine every day, too, as this is a great source of the nutrient. Ten to 30 minutes a few times a week of direct sunlight exposure should help, Zive says.

  1. Potassium: Muscle Weakness, Constipation, Irregular Heart Rhythm, and More
Potassium helps your heart, nerves, and muscles work properly and also delivers nutrients to cells while removing waste, according to MedlinePlus. Plus, it’s a useful nutrient that helps offset sodium’s negative impact on your blood pressure: “It’s important in maintaining a healthy blood pressure,” Zive says.

You could become low in potassium in the short term because of diarrhea or vomiting; excessive sweating; antibiotics, laxatives, or diuretics; excessive alcohol consumption; or because of a chronic condition such as kidney disease, per the Mayo Clinic. Symptoms of a deficiency include muscle weakness, twitches, or cramps; constipation; tingling and numbness; and an abnormal heart rhythm or palpitations, says MedlinePlus.

For natural potassium sources, try bananas, milk, acorn squash, lentils, and kidney beans and other legumes. Adult men need 3,400 mg each day, and women need 2,600 mg, according to the NIH.

  1. Iron: Fatigue, Shortness of Breath, Cold Hands and Feet, Brittle Nails, and More
Iron is necessary to produce red blood cells, which carry oxygen throughout the body, according to the University of California in San Francisco. When iron levels get too low, there may be a deficiency in red blood cells, resulting in a condition called anemia. Some groups at increased risk of iron deficiency include menstruating women, growing individuals (such as children and pregnant women), and those following a vegan or vegetarian diet, Zive says.

Anemia can leave you with symptoms including weakness and fatigue, shortness of breath, a fast heartbeat, pale skin, headache, cold hands and feet, a sore or swollen tongue, brittle nails, and cravings for strange things like dirt, according to the Mayo Clinic. The symptoms may be so mild at first that you don’t notice something’s wrong, but as iron stores become more depleted, they will become more intense.

To boost iron levels, Patton recommends eating iron-fortified cereal, beef, oysters, beans (especially lima, navy, and kidney beans), lentils, and spinach. Adult men and women over 50 need 8 mg per day, and adult women younger than 50 need 18 mg each day, according to the NIH.

  1. Vitamin B12: Numbness, Fatigue, Swollen Tongue, and More
Vitamin B12 aids the production of red blood cells and DNA, and also improves neurotransmitter function, according to the NIH. Vegetarians and vegans may be at particular risk for vitamin B12 deficiency because plants don’t make the nutrient, and people who’ve had weight loss surgery may also lack B12 because the procedure makes it difficult for the body to extract the nutrient from food, according to Harvard Health Publishing.

Symptoms of severe B12 deficiency include numbness in the legs, hands, or feet; problems with walking and balance; anemia; fatigue; weakness; a swollen, inflamed tongue; memory loss and difficulty thinking, per Harvard Health Publishing. These symptoms can come on quickly or gradually, and since there’s such a wide range in symptoms, you may not notice them for a while.

Adults need 2.4 mcg of B12 per day, according to the NIH. It’s most commonly found in animal products, and Patton recommends fish, chicken, milk, and yogurt to boost your B12 levels. If you’re vegan or vegetarian, Zive suggests opting for foods fortified with B12, such as plant-based milk and breakfast cereals. You can also find B12 in most multivitamins, according to the NIH, but if you’re at risk of being deficient, you can take a supplement specifically containing B12.

Man Kills Friend Over Age Dispute

A LUPANE man beat his friend to death following an argument on who was older between the two, a court heard.

Levison Luphahla (32) of Geleza village was incensed by Khumbulani Tshuma (30)’s insistence that he was older and went berserk.

He viciously attacked Tshuma, from neighbouring Mangevula village, in Jotsholo under Chief Mabhikwa with a log, killing him on the spot.

Luphahla pleaded not guilty to murder but guilty to a lesser charge of culpable homicide when he appeared before Bulawayo High Court judge Justice Martin Makonese who is on circuit in Hwange.

The judge sentenced him to four years in prison.

Justice Makonese said while Luphahla was intoxicated when he committed the crime, he had used excessive force causing the death of Tshuma.

Luphahla, who was represented by Ms Linda Mthombeni of Dube, Nkala and Company, will however serve an effective three years after one year was suspended for five years on condition of good behaviour.

The two had been drinking homemade beer at Mrs Mainah Ncube’s homestead where villagers had been gathered to help harvest sorghum.

Other villagers left for their homesteads at sunset leaving the two drinking after which a misunderstanding arose around 8:30pm.

Tshuma picked two wooden stools and threw them at Luphahla one after the other hitting him on the face before he fled from the scene.

Luphahla gave chase and caught up with his friend who he hit several times with a log causing his death in a nearby maize field.

Prosecuting, Mrs Martha Cheda said Luphahla told Mrs Ncube in the morning that he had killed his friend.

“On the 31st day of May 2020 at around 8:30PM Luphahla and the now deceased were drinking beer when a misunderstanding arose between them on who was older than the other,” said Mrs Cheda.

Tshuma was found dead the following morning.

Mrs Ncube informed the village head about the matter and a report was made to the police leading to Luphahla’s arrest.- Chronicle

Biti Fired For Probing Top Mnangagwa Ally Kuda Tagwirei

By James Gwati-Harare East legislator, Tendai Biti has been expelled from parliament at a time the former Finance minister through the parliament portfolio committee is probing a corruption case involving President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s top ally, Kuda Tagwirei.

Biti chairs the parliament’s public accounts committee which is probing allegations of serious corruption at Zesa after Sakunda Holdings was awarded a US$250 million tender to build a failed diesel power plant in Dema despite not placing a bid.

Sakunda Holdings, which is owned by Kudakwashe Tagwirei, an ally of President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The Dema tender was initially won by an American company, but was later cancelled without explanation and handed to Sakunda.

Mliswa Attributes Biti’s Parly Recall to Corrupt Zanu PF Bootlikers

By James Gwati- Norton Independent Member of Parliament, Temba Mliswa, said corrupt Zanu PF bootlickers were behind the recalling of his fellow lawmaker, Tendai Biti from parliament.

Biti together with a number of his compatriots was yesterday recalled from parliament by their People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on allegations of no longer representing the interests of the little known political grouping.

Mliswa soon after Biti’s expulsion from parliament said the recalling of Biti and company was a sad development for him.

He said to him, the National Assembly was losing brilliant minds at the expense of what he called politricks.

Mliswa said as Public Accounts Committee Chair, Tendai Biti was extremely proficient.

“ Having been a former Minister of Finance, he was very knowledgeable. He was meticulous in his reports; it’ll be hard to fill the gap,” said Mliswa.
He also bemoaned the recalling of Kucaca Phulu saying with him gone, the Legal & Parliamentary Committee had lost an integral player.
“All the MPs lost yesterday were vibrant members who contributed immensely to Parly. If you follow the Hansard, they spoke with knowledge & detail & were diligent in their execution,” he added.
“I see this all the time, and I’m hoping come 2023, people will be wise enough, lessons must be learnt,” he said.

Artists Petition Mnangagwa, Want ED To Lift Ban On Live Shows

By A Correspondent- Local musicians and their associations have sought an audience with President Emmerson Mnangagwa whom they want to lift the ban on public shows.

The arts associations under the banner All-Music Associations and Arts Promoters in Zimbabwe said they want to meet the head of state and make him appreciate the sufferings they are enduring as a result of the continued ban on live performances.

Since the COVID-19 outbreak in March last year, physical gatherings for live concerts have remained banned as part of a raft of measures to curb the spread of the deadly virus and as a result, most artists are struggling to survive.

Most artistes have been reduced to beggars and are now turning to the government for assistance as their plight continues to worsen while other sectors have been opened.

“Gutu Is A Bitter Man”

By Blessing Simpson Madzima

The self proclamation of Obert Gutu is a national victory for the people of Zimbabwe.

In real life your identity and your origin are the most basic fundamentals of who you are in society.

Obert has been a fictitious agent in our democratic politics. His conduct and behaviour was evident of a traitor and a mercenary but we never new where his origins in real politics were from. Now that he has come open in the public domain that he is ZANU pf confirms the suspicion many people had about this man since emerging into politics. The spurning and self identification of many of these politicians with ZANU pf is an opportunity for new revolution and a political struggle that will usher victory for a genuine political settlement in our country.

Infiltration is not an easy thing to manage, especially when you find it difficult to have a screening template for sepearatiin of genuine cadres and mercenaries and political agents.
This self initiation of this self declaration and identification will clear a very effective process of building a genuine and strong opposition movement that will eventually transform our society and bring independence to our country.

Munetsi, Kadewere Ruled Out Of AFCON Qualifiers Due To COVID-19 Restrictions

The Warriors technical’s hopes of securing the services of France-based pair of Tinotenda Kadewere and Marshall Munetsi for the next Afcon Qualifiers have hit a snag as the two players will not be allowed to travel to Africa due to Covid-19 pandemic.

The development follows after Ligue 1 and Ligue 2 clubs voted unanimously to block African players from leaving the EU over the coming international break.

Zimbabwe had looked at Kadewere and Munetsi as among the key stars in the squad after several Europe-based players pulled out because of similar reason.

A statement by the football governing body in France, LFP, reads: “… The clubs of Ligue 1 Uber Eats and Ligue 2 BKT have decided to apply the FIFA circular of February 5, 2021 taking into account the travel restrictions in the world.

“In this context, the clubs will not release foreign players summoned for matches outside the EU / EEA zone during the next international period in March.”

The national team was trying to engaged Kadewere and Munetsi’s respective clubs – Lyon and Stade de Reims – but the latest decision will force coach Zdravko Logarusic to go for option B.

The duo joins Aston Villa midfielder Marvelous Nakamba, Wigan’s Tendayi Darikwa, Jordan Zemura (Bournemouth), David Moyo (Hamilton), Admiral Muskwe (Wycombe Wanderers) and Brendan Galloway (Luton) to be affected by the travelling restrictions.

The Warriors will face Botswana away on 25 March before hosting Zambia at the National Sports Stadium in Harare four days later.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Read full statement below:

The rejoining of ZANU PF by the known Prodigal Sons,Obert Gutu and James Makore does not surprise us, in actual fact it was overdue to be declared in public by their newly found sanctuary , Zanu PF.

We are only surprised why this announcement has taken over 2 years to be pronounced publicly.

We knew this was coming since the aforementioned men have been so desperate for party positions and survival.

Parading political renegades at the State House is unconstitutional because Zanu PF activities should be done and paraded at the Shake – shake house, the Zanu PF Headquarters,in Harare or elsewhere.

The Zanu PF president should separate State business from party functions/ business.

Desperate, fly by night individuals purporting to be politicians can’t stop the Great Movement, the MDC A to move on and emancipate all oppressed Zimbabweans.

Matanga Responds To Police Brutality Claims, Reads Riot Act To His Overzealous Subordinates

By James Gwati- Police Chief, Godwin Matanga has responded to police brutality complaints which are being daily raised by the public and warned his officers to behave in a professional manner.

There are complaints against police from the public that the cops have not only become corrupt, but also cruel and brutal to the citizens they have a constitutional mandate to protect.

In Harare and other cities, police have become inhuman and are extorting citizens more than what criminals do.

Matanga who was addressing 40 officers who recently returned from United Nations Peacekeeping Mission duties in Abyei and Darfur, in the capital, Thursday, said police service needed loyal and dedicated officers who put their country and people first.

He challenged his colleagues to perform their duties diligently, with a high level of professionalism, warning them to shun any form of behaviour that might bring the force and the country into disrepute.

@BitiTendai
from Parliament to thwart his anti-corruption drive in the Public Accounts Committee. He was due to table the ZINARA & Command Agriculture Reports & was leading the ZESA & Land Baron Inquiries…”

Advocate Mahere wrote on Twitter:
“The recall of
@BitiTendai
for exposing corruption through the Public Accounts Committee is a dangerous new low for the regime.

Obert Gutu, Senator Makore Speak On Their Decision To Join Zanu PF

Two former MDC members Obert Gutu and James Makore have spoken on their decision to join the ruling Zanu PF saying they are not after positions but working for the development of the coountry.

Speaking at State House when they were being welcomed by Zanu PF leadership including Emmerson Mnangagwa, Constantino Chiwenga and Oppah Muchinguri, Guti said;

“We feel we are here to contribute to the development of the country. Speaking entirely for myself, I am not position-oriented. I know some people will say Gutu wants this post or that post, that’s far from it.

“We are here to play our part albeit a small part for the development of this country and the Vision which the Second Republic has fashioned for this country, Vision 2030 which is achievable with the right mindset and skills set,” he said.

Senator Makore echoed similar sentiments saying he had returned home.

“We do feel we have to contribute to the economy, we can’t consistently fight without producing any tangible result for the economy and by and large we can be a cog in national development,” he said.

Cde Gutu once served as Deputy Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs during the inclusive Government (2009-2013).

“Silent” Energy Mutodi Bounces Back On Twitter, Says Magufuli’s Death Has Vindicated Him

By A Correspondent- Former Deputy Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Energy Mutodi, has described Tanzanian president John Magufuli’s death as God’s way of proving that he was right when he mocked Tanzania’s approach to COVID-19.

Mutodi tweeted on Thursday after it had been announced Wednesday that Magufuli had died of a heart complication in Dar es Salam. Some reports claimed Magufuli had contracted the coronavirus. Commenting on Magufuli’s death, Mutodi said:

The Lord Almighty has vindicated His servant in the death of Tanzanian President John Pombe Magafuli. Where there was rejection and rebuke, He has provided reparation.

The former Rhumba musician had earlier mocked Magufuli for his approach to coronavirus after the late leader had declared Tanzania a COVID-19-free zone saying it was defeated by prayer.

He tweeted back then:

His Excellency John Pombe Magafuli’s Tanzania now has 630 COVID-19 cases with prayers but without a lockdown while His Excellency President ED Mnangagwa’s Zimbabwe only got 31 cases with lockdown and masks. An insight into how managers can be game-changers.

Then minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, the late Dr Sibusiso Moyo was forced to intervene saying Mutodi’s remarks were not reflective of the views held by Zimbabwe as a nation but by Mutodi as an individual.

Following the recent tweet, the ruling ZANU PF described Mutodi’s behaviour as childish. Responding to the tweet, the ruling party said:

Mutodi was last year fired by President Emmerson Mnangagwa following a chain of reckless behaviour that created tensions among government officials and between Zimbabwe and neighbouring countries.

Some reports suggest that Mutodi was fired at Sibusiso Moyo’s behest. It is alleged that Moyo had threatened to resign if Mutodi who was making his diplomatic role tough had not been sacked.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has since appointed Makonde legislator, Kindness Paradza, a former journalist and publisher, as Energy Mutodi’s replacement.

By A Correspondent| Former Deputy Information minister Energy Mutodi says Tanzanian President John Magufuli’s death has vindicated him after he was condemned for pointing out that the East African country’s poor handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

With Magufuli dead now, Mutodi says God vindicated him as he was rejected and rebuked after pointing out the East African giant’s big mistake in handling the COVID-19 pandemic.

“The Lord Almighty has vindicated His servant in the death of Tanzanian President John Pombe Magafuli. Where there was rejection and rebuke, He has provided reparation,” said Mutodi.

He was remanded to March 29 on $20 000 bail and ordered to surrender his passport, reside at the given address, report three times a week at Gweru Central Police Station and not to interfere with investigations.

The prosecution alleged that from January 2013 to the end of February 2017, Dube allegedly ordered a Zesa employee, Andrew Homa, to work as a domestic worker at his residence in Gweru.

Homa was on the electricity utility’s payroll and Dube assigned him to do domestic duties at his home.

During the said period, Homa received US$17 568 in salaries from Zesa although he was working at Dube’s private home.

OPINION: Politics Of The Stomach Choking Zimbabwe

By Leonard Koni| It is really sad and beyond imagination to see democracy being shoved into the blast furnace with  the aim of creating a one party state.

Is recalling members of parliament by any chance going to solve or improve the country’s economic, social and political challenges bedevelling the country or its designed to create a Chinese model of politics through  weakening the people’s struggle?

I see Thokozani Khupe and Douglas Mwonzora are struggling to stand on their feet to lure the electorate after they recalled some members of parliament. They are not even getting stronger.

Honestly people are very much aware of the fact that this so called new dispensation under the leadership of President Emmerson Mnangagwa has nothing to offer and is just there to decimate the opposition, loot the country’s resources and self enrichment not the improvement of people’s lives.

About 70% of Zimbabweans are living under the poverty datum line and cannot afford even two decent meals per day. They are scrounging from one day to the other and go home with nothing whilst these political bourgeoisie are excelling every day in self preservation.

In that area surely they deserve a place in the Guinness book of world records.

What is the main reason of parading members who have left politics long time ago and have now defected to another party. Will voters take such candidates seriously or get tricked by their political posture and grandstanding.

Its like parading former Dynamos player and coach Moses ‘Bambo’ Chunga to play for Highlanders ‘Bosso’ Football ClubSuch a move would be beyond imagination.

Most of these tired politicians who cannot match modern day politics are glory hunters seeking to be re admitted or accommodated into Zanu PF gravy train which is mostly known through looting country’s resources and corruption.

They were denied and rejected by the people and could not access those privileges of parly allowances, laptop and a car. They have now resorted to finding ways to feed themselves together with their spouses.

These opportunists are out, but I just feel bad for the late Morgan Tsvangirai who was surrounded and trusted these political prostitutes dressed in sheep’s skins when they were actually wolves. The likes of Thokozani Khupe, Douglas Mwonzora, Obert Gutu, Tracey Mutinhiri and the forgotten James Makore.

Those rejoining Zanu PF must be applauded for exercising their democratic rights. The cleansing process should not stop but must come as a bonus to MDC-Alliance. The residue must be kept in a safe place.

To be honest and precise these people who are joining Zanu PF are as good as used oil which cannot be put in an engine under a service. They are finished and have lost the viscosity.

Military Boss Arrested For Conning Harare Woman Of US$5000 In Dirty Money Deal

A Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) top official, Major Sybert Muradzikwa yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Isheunesu Matova after he allegedly conned a Harare woman of US$5 000 in a deal to clean soiled bank notes.

Muradzikwa was remanded to April 5 on $5 000 bail.

It is alleged that in January this year, Muradzikwa and his accomplices, who are still at large, misrepresented to the complainant, Lyn Mavhunga, that they wanted to engage her on a business venture to clean old notes using a liquid chemical.

Mavhunga allegedly released US$5 000 to purchase the liquid, before Muradzikwa requested for more money.

Complainant turned down the request and reported him to police.

VP Chiwenga Gets Second COVID-19 Jab

Chiwenga was the first person to be vaccinated when he officially launched the Covid-19 vaccination program at Wilkins hospital.

45 Degrees Angle Soldier’s Wife In Fierce Gold Mine Battle With Fellow Zanu PF Official

Nyanga North MP Chido Sanyatwe (Zanu-PF) has been fingered in a fierce fight over gold mining claims.

The legislator is the wife of Zimbabwe’s ambassador to Tanzania Anselem Sanyatwe, former boss in the Presidential Guard.

Sanyatwe is accused of threatening violence against a fellow Zanu-PF official, Julius Manyuchi, who is part of the Chisero Mining Syndicate.

In a letter dated March 9, 2021 addressed to Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial chairperson Mike Madiro and copied to Speaker of Parliament Advocate Jacob Mudenda and the President’s Office in Manicaland, Manyuchi accused Sanyatwe and her colleagues of threatening violence against him and blocking him from accessing his syndicate.

“I was embarrassed and belittled at that rally and several allegations and accusations were levelled against me. I was then ordered to vacate the area and rowdy artisanal miners numbering more than 800 demanded that I do so with immediate effect,” he said referring to a March 6, 2021 meeting addressed by Sanyatwe.

“The Honourable MP (Sanyatwe) then told me to vacate as demanded and he told the people present that if I did not comply, they should simply block my way at Avilla Mission.

I now live in fear of being attacked on the way to my investment.”

Manyuchi said he could not vacate the place after investing “several millions of dollars” at Chisero.

“I am also legally advised that the Honourable MP does not have the power to remove me from the syndicate as I am duly registered at the Ministry of Mines. I am also advised that it is illegal for a Member of Parliament to instigate violence or encourage people to break the law as she did,” he said.

Manyuchi pleaded with the party to act on the matter and allow the law to be followed without the abuse of political power by the MP.

Sanyatwe confirmed seeing the letter yesterday, but accused Manyuchi of abusing over 5 000 artisanal miners in the area.

“He is in conflict with other miners,” she said.

“The other miners came to my office and they are about 5 000 people. They accuse him of fraudulently finding his way into the claims and that he was abusing miners while not following the law. They wanted my intervention as the MP.”

Sanyatwe accused Manyuchi of working against her.

“I was surprised to see him writing to Parliament and others instead of him coming to me. I have to protect my people and the President needs five million votes. All he said were lies,” Sanyatwe said.

Biti Says Party Will Come Up With A Collective Way Forward

By A Correspondent| Recalled Public Accounts Committee (PAC) chairperson Tendai Biti says the MDC Alliance will convene and come up with a collective decision following his recall together with five other former members of the People’s Democratic Party now led by Lucia Matibenga.

In an interview with an online publication, Biti said his recall was a plot by Zanu PF to stop his work in exposing corruption adding that a report on corruption in some of the government owned entities was ready to be tabled before parliament.

“We had those reports ready and my recall is to make sure these issues to do with corruption are not brought before Parliament. We will convene as a party and make sure we come up with a collective decision. Remember, we contested elections not under the PDP, but under the MDC Alliance,” Biti said.

Biti was recalled together with Kucaca Phulu, Settlement Chikwinya, Regai Tsunga and Willias Madzimure.

Their recall followed a letter to the Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda by the Secretary General of PDP.

PDP participated in the 2018 harmonised elections under Joice Mujuru’s Rainbow Coalition.

Universities Resume Face to Face Learning

Universities in the country are next week set to resume face-to-face learning and examinations in a phased approach, adhering to Covid-19 prevention regulations.

Universities stopped face-to-face tuition as Government implemented lockdown to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development Minister Professor Amon Murwira said universities have the greenlight to start lessons physically as long as they do four basic things to prevent the spread of the virus.

He said the institutions should ensure that there is social distancing, sanitising, wearing of face masks and regular temperature checks.

‘‘Universities are to open for face-to-face learning under World Health Organisation (Who) guidelines and should open in a phased approach for social distancing purposes. We are not going to compromise the safety of our students. Universities should ensure they put systems in place that guarantee a safe environment for students,’’ said Prof Murwira.

Universities, he said, would open according to their ability and capacity.

National University of Science and Technology (Nust) and Lupane State University (LSU) are set to resume face-to-face lectures and examinations on Monday observing Government’s Covid-19 prevention measures.

Nust director for communication and Marketing Mr Thabani Mpofu said face-to-face learning and examination will resume on Monday in a phased approach to allow social distancing during lectures and examinations.

‘‘The university will resume face-to-face learning and examinations in a phased manner from the 22nd of March 2021. Students have been grouped into four distinct groups to allow for social distancing during lectures and examinations. The examinations will be staggered and will start on the 29th of March 2021 and end on the 21st of May 2021. There will be temperature checking at all points of entry to the University and lecture rooms, hand sanitising, wearing of face masks at all times and enforcement of social distancing,’’ said Mr Mpofu.

LSU marketing and communication director Mr Zwelithini Dlamini said face-to-face lectures will resume on Monday with strict adherence to Covid-19 prevention measures including checking of temperature at entrance, sanitisation of hands, social distancing and wearing of masks.

Mr Dlamini said students are expected to buy their own face masks.

‘‘We will be following the Covid-19 prevention protocols. We will be doing screening, temperature checks and sanitisation. We will also ensure social distancing in the lecture rooms and also in the hostels where each room will accommodate only two students to avoid congestion,’’ said Mr Dlamini.

He said lecture rooms were fumigated and will be continuously disinfected during the course of the semester.

President Mnangagwa eased Covid-19 lockdown measures two weeks after the rate of new infections began to decline.

Magufuli’s Death: Mutodi Says The Lord Has Vindicated Him

By A Correspondent| Former Deputy Information minister Energy Mutodi says Tanzanian President John Magufuli’s death has vindicated him after he was condemned for pointing out that the East African country’s poor handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Mutodi was condemned after he posted on Twitter suggesting that Magufuli had made a blunder by keeping churches in Tanzania open as that had resulted in the rise of coronavirus cases.

The government through the Foreign Affairs ministry distanced itself from Mutodi’s remarks saying his views did not reflect the position of Zimbabwe.

Magufuli shocked the rest of the world after he declared victory over the COVID-19 pandemic while stopping the publication of statistics.

He never introduced lockdowns and allowed sporting activities to go on, a move many felt was wreckless considering the deadliness of COVID-19.

COVID-Denialist Magufuli Dies

By James Gwati-COVID denialist and Tanzania’s President John Pombe Magufuli was yesterday pronounced dead.

Tanzania’s Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan Wednesday night announced the death of President Magufuli on the state television.

“The President of the United Republic of Tanzania, the honourable Doctor John Pombe Joseph Magufuli, … (has) died of a heart condition, at hospital Mzena in Dar es Salaam, where he was receiving treatment,” she said on state broadcaster TBC.

Magufuli was last seen on 27 February.

Contentious presidency
First elected to the presidency in 2015, Magufuli was serving a second five-year term won in 2020 elections that the opposition and some rights groups said were neither free nor fair. His main opponent in that race, Tundu Lissu, had to relocate to Belgium after the vote, fearing for his safety. Mr. Lissu, who was among the first to raise questions about the whereabouts of Magufuli after he went missing for several days, had been shot 16 times back in 2017, an attack he blamed on government agents because of his criticism of the President.

Magufuli had become so powerful by the start of the COVID-19 outbreak that he could deny the existence of a pandemic without incurring the criticism of his predecessor and other prominent people within Tanzania. In early 2021, amid speculation that Magufuli would seek an unconstitutional third term when his mandate expired in 2025, his ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi party was compelled to deny such a thing could happen.

John Pombe Magufuli was born on October 29, 1959, in the rural area of Chato in the country’s northwest. The son of a subsistence farmer, he tended his father’s cattle but was a good student, seeing classroom studies as a way out of poverty. Magufuli earned a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and chemistry at the University of Dar es Salaam in 1988. Much later, in 2009, he earned a doctorate in chemistry from the same university.

For years he was a secondary school teacher and then a chemist with a farmers’ cooperative union before entering politics as a lawmaker representing Chato in the National Assembly. The legislative role was a springboard to a career in national politics, and he served in several Cabinet positions, notably as the hardworking public works minister nicknamed “the bulldozer” in the administration of predecessor Jakaya Kikwete.

A reputation as an incorruptible man was widely seen as one reason for his selection as the new leader of Chama Cha Mapinduzi, the party that had dominated Tanzania since independence but whose popularity was declining in large part because of allegations of rampant corruption.

In 2015, the newly-elected Magufuli made news on his first day in office. He showed up unannounced in the morning at the Ministry of Finance offices to see how many officials had come to work on time. That week he also banned unnecessary trips by government officials, as an austerity measure. He soon canceled Independence Day celebrations and said the funds budgeted for the event would be used to improve roads and infrastructure in Dar es Salaam, the commercial capital. Magufuli also fired a number of top government officials in his anti-corruption crusade.

At least in the early days of his presidency, Magufuli was seen as the leader Tanzania needed. He was widely admired by Tanzanians but also by others in East Africa who, citing his tough stance against corruption, wished for a leader like him. But very quickly others saw signs of intolerance as Magufuli cracked down on dissenters and those who criticised his work methods.

In early 2016 Magufuli stopped live broadcasts of parliamentary debates in which the opposition criticised the government, and in July that year he banned political rallies.

Magufuli’s harsh rule was extended to the country’s LBGT community, with his government preventing aid agencies from supporting same-sex groups to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Amnesty International criticised several bills supported by Magufuli and passed into laws as designed to “stifle all forms of dissent and effectively clamp down on the rights to freedom of expression and peaceful assembly.”

COVID denier
But it was Magufuli’s denial of COVID-19 that brought him intense international attention.

Soon after the first case of the disease was confirmed in Tanzania in March 2020, Magufuli urged people to go to churches and mosques to pray. Magufuli, a devout Catholic, pronounced that “coronavirus is a devil … and cannot sit in the body of Christ.” Then in April the country stopped cooperating with the international community regarding its COVID-19 caseload.

Magufuli announced in June that COVID-19 had been eradicated from Tanzania by three days of national prayer. He spoke against social distancing and the wearing of masks and questioned the efficacy of vaccines. He even sent samples from bicycle lubricant, papaya fruit and a quail bird to be tested for the coronavirus in his bid to discredit testing.

“Countries in Africa will be coming here to buy food in the years to come … they will be suffering because of shutting down their economy,” he said of others imposing lockdowns.

Magufuli promoted herbs and exercise as COVID-19 remedies.

However, people leaving Tanzania reported that intensive care units in hospitals were filling up with people with severe respiratory illness. Others said that burials were being held at night to hide the numbers of deaths. Migrants from Tanzania were found to have COVID-19. Government officials denied most of these accounts, and health officials who reported problems related to COVID-19 were fired.

Critics say Magufuli’s legacy will be turning a country previously praised for its tolerance and relative stability into a more repressive state. Under founding President Julius Nyerere, Tanzania was an influential country as the host of pan-African liberation groups including Nelson Mandela’s African National Congress.

“Tanzania has weaponised the law to the point that no one really knows when they are on the right or wrong side of it,” Deprose Muchena, an Amnesty International official in Africa, said of Magufuli’s rule in an October 2020 report.

Politicians were arrested for holding or attending meetings, online activism was criminalized and non-governmental organizations were stifled with endless regulations, that report said.

Zitto Kabwe, leader of the opposition Alliance for Change and Transparency party, said he had been arrested 16 times since Magufuli came to power.

Lissu, Magufuli’s main opponent and challenger in the 2020 polls, complained that security forces interfered with his campaign. His party’s offices were fire-bombed and dozens of parliamentary candidates were disqualified. Tens of thousands of opposition electoral agents were not accredited by the electoral commission, effectively denying them access to poll centers to verify results. On the eve of the election 11 people were shot dead by security forces, nine of them in Zanzibar as they protested alleged election fraud.

Despite the repression, Magufuli’s supporters say he was focused on Tanzania’s economic success and sought to implement ambitious projects that would lift more of his people out of poverty. Scores of infrastructure programs, including trains and the revival of Air Tanzania, were launched under Magufuli’s reign. Tanzania is one of the fastest-growing economies in the world, and in July the World Bank categorised it as a middle-income country five years ahead of schedule.

“We had envisaged achieving this status by 2025 but, with strong determination, this has been possible in 2020,” Magufuli tweeted at the time. – The Hindu/Agencies

Jailed Land Baron Sleeps Comfortably At Home

A Harare man, Collen Mavhundutse who is accusing suspected land baron, Felix Munyaradzi of clandestinely being allowed to attend his father-in-law’s funeral in Zvimba from remand prison last year has made fresh complaints against officers from the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS).
This comes after the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service this week said the temporary release from remand prison for a property developer to attend his father-in-law’s funeral in August last year was above board.

According to ZPCS, Felix Munyaradzi was granted temporary release from prison by Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs, Ziyambi Ziyambi.

ZPCS was responding to allegations by Mavhundutse that prison officials had corruptly released Munyaradzi.

In a statement, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service acting spokesperson Peter Chaparanganda said the facts recorded in the ZPCS occurrence books indicate that then inmate left prison in the morning and reported back at 4pm on the same day.

However, Mavhundutse has since approached the police to probe further insisting that he witnessed Munyaradzi sleeping at his Borrowdale house and accused the ZPCS of trying to cover up the matter.

“I Collen Mavhundutse insists that Felix Munyaradzi did not go back to prison after attending the funeral in Zvimba.

“I witnessed him sleeping at his house while in the company of two prison officers in civilian attire on August 14. I am however shocked by the ZPCS statement in the local media alleging that I was peddling lies over the matter.

“Instead of issuing a statement, they should probe the matter first before making any statements.

“However, I am the complainant in this case and want the relevant officials to investigate the matter further and I am also willing to testify,” he said in a sworn affidavit to the police.

Mr Mavhundutse said he recently met senior officers from the ZPCS including the Commissioner General Moses Chihobvu who assured him that they will get to the bottom of the matter.

“I told the senior officers that Munyaradzi slept at his house when I arrived around 6am, he was still in Borrowdale and they were in the process of preparing to go to remand prison.

“I also witnessed that there was a cattle carcass that was loaded in a black Toyota Hilux which being driven by a driver known as Arthur.

Munyaradzi was seated in a white Toyota Landcruiser V8 while in the company of two ZPCS officers on Saturday 15 August, 2020.

“I then surrendered about US$300 to his wife since he had given me one of his trucks to use for hire,” he said.

Recently, the complaint, which was made by Mavhundutse (38), was recently forwarded to the Special Anti-Corruption Unit (SACU), the Police Anti-Corruption Unit (PACU) and the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service for further investigations.

Munyaradzi was arrested last year on allegations of duping people who wanted to buy stands at Sandton near Westgate in Harare before he was later granted $55 000 bail and other stringent conditions.

However, in a twist of events, Mavhundutse made a report to the police to investigate allegations that Munyaradzi allegedly connived with two ZPCS officers to allow him to attend the funeral.

According to the report made, after attending the funeral, Munyaradzi is further alleged to have gone to spend the night at his Borrowdale house, before returning to prison the following day.

He is also alleged to have slaughtered two beasts for the two officers before giving them about 200 chickens.

Circumstances leading to Munyaradzi’s arrest were that during 2015, his firm Delatfin Investments, entered into a swap deal with Mr Delish Nguwaya for the sale of stands in exchange for a Toyota Prado.

Delatfin Investments sold three residential stands — 1572, 1516 and 1471 — in Sandton Park in Mt Hampden, worth US$50 000 and Mr Nguwaya surrendered the Prado and an agreement of sale was signed on February 2, 2018.

It is alleged that Munyaradzi went on to sell the stands to other people, and when Mr Nguwaya complained, he agreed to compensate him with eight smaller stands in Sandton Park.

But then, Munyaradzi allegedly went on to sell one of the stands to Tawanda Mashumba for US$30 000.

It is the State’s case that Mr Nguwaya was aware that the stand in question had already been sold, and he lost US$15 000 in the process.

On April 20, 2015, Delatfin Investments was offered 120 hectares of State land by the Ministry of Local Government to develop residential stands. The land was previously used by the police for breeding horses.

In 2016, Munyaradzi through his firm, allegedly sold a stand fraudulently to Mrs Gabaza for US$18 000, a stand in Sandton Phase 3 to Mr Dondo for US$22 000, and another stand in the same neighbourhood to Mr Erasmus Makodza for US$40 000.

Mr Makodza is said to have later discovered his stand had allegedly been sold for a second time to Mrs Nyongo by Munyaradzi, forcing him to lodge a complaint with the police. -Herald

World Karate Federation Suspends Zimbabwe Karate Union…

The World Karate Federation (WKF) has provisionally withdrawn recognition of the Zimbabwe Karate Union (ZKU) with immediate effect for operating in breach of the global governing’s body statutes.

The Zimbabwe Karate Union has continued to administer both semi and full-contact karate in breach of the WKF statutes which were revised in 2018.

Article 5.15 of the WKF constitution states:

National Federations are prohibited from being affiliated with any karate organisation not recognised by WKF. Affiliates are also prohibited from having any sporting relationships with such non-recognised organisations or with any suspended WKF National Federation.

Non-compliance with this prohibition would give rise to disciplinary sanctions. Illegal double affiliation would constitute just grounds for disaffiliation from WKF.

In a letter dated 5 March 2021, and addressed to ZKU president Stephen Charandura, the WKF wrote:

Kindly note that the provisional disaffiliation of the ZKU will be submitted for the ratification of the WKF Congress at its next meeting.

On that occasion, the ZKU will be granted the opportunity to express its view with regard to disaffiliation of WKF, if it so wishes. Please note that the congress will have the entire discretion to disaffiliate ZKU.

Please note that your federation will, as of today, no longer be entitled to the rights reserved only to WKF members, including but not limited to participating in WKF events, use the WKF logo, name and representing the WKF in Zimbabwe.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe National Karate Federation which is for various styles but mainly semi-contact), headed by former ZKU president Sensei Joe Rugwete has not been suspended.

The Zimbabwe National Karate Federation and the Zimbabwe Karate Union went separate ways recently due to disagreements on how to run the institution.

In June last year, then-ZKU president Sensei Rugwete was quoted by the Chronicle as saying the organisation faced suspension or expulsion from the World Karate Federation. Speaking on the way forward back then, he said:

It’s not going to be a decision for the president (himself) and the vice-president (Sensei Tawanda Mufundisi). It’s a decision of members of ZKU, semi and full-contact.

If we don’t comply, we will get expelled, so on this issue, we really need to get both sides, semi-contact, and full-contact.

The parties failed to reach an agreement leading to the formation of the new association, the Zimbabwe National Karate Federation (ZNKF) while the full contact side continued with the ZKU that has been suspended.- Chronicle
