Zanu PF Heavyweights Lose Sleep Over President Chamisa’s Agenda 2021

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF heavyweights are sweating over the impact of President Nelson Chamisa’s Agenda 2021 address.

In his Agenda 2021 address on Tuesday, President Chamisa exposed Zanu PF’s failure to revive the country’s economy. He also pointed out that the MDC Alliance would not be forced by anyone to endorse Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Illegitimate administration.

On Friday, Zanu PF through its spokesperson, Simon Khaya -Moyo attempted to pour cold water on President Chamisa’s Agenda 2021 address.

Khaya-Moyo shocked all and sundry when he accused President Chamisa of inciting social unrest.

“We are ready to deal with attempts to cause social disharmony. We view the address as a clear attempt to incite civil unrest and violence,” claimed Khaya- Moyo.

Political analysts argue Mr Mnangagwa’s Zanu PF party is desperate to dismantle the MDC Alliance and Khaya Moyo ‘s has literally confirmed the former revolutionary party is in panic mode.

People’s Struggle Unshaken By Timveos, Chebundo Defection- President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC MDC Alliance leader, President Nelson Chamisa has said the people’s struggle will not be affected by the defection of Senator Lilian Timveos and Hon Blessing Chebundo to Zanu PF.

MDC Alliance Secretary General Charlton Hwende, quoting President Chamisa’s remarks, said the MDC Alliance was going through a process of shedding off exhausted elements.

“The MDC Alliance does not regard those who have left the party as a loss but as an important process of shedding off those exhausted elements who impede and slow down our national democratic struggle.

Our struggle is not driven by those who have mercenary zeal but is moved by those who have missionary enthusiasm.

Those who want to eat have no place in the democratic train: AGENDA 2021,” Hwende wrote on Facebook.

Sources claimed Chengetai visited outspoken Masvingo preacher Isaac Makomichi who allegedly gave her the charms to lure rich guys.

“Chenge wants to get married but all her boyfriends are threating to commit suicide if she abandons them.

We are planning to confront the preacher who gave her the charms,” said Chenge’s brother.

Chengetai would not confirm whether she got the charms from Makomichi.

Furore As DeMbare Donates Replica Jersey To Mnangagwa

Tinashe Sambiri|Soccer fans have expressed mixed views on the donation of a replica jersey by Harare Giants Dynamos FC to Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Last month, Mr Mnangagwa received a replica jersey from Bulawayo Giants Highlanders FC.

According to irate football fans, Mr Mnangagwa is using the popularity of the two soccer giants to gain political marks.

However, Presidential spokesperson George Charamba wrote on Twitter:

“The Club gave the President its iconic jersey bearing his initials. A few weeks back, His Excellency the President met with the hierarchy of Highlanders Football Club to listen to challenges they face in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic which has stymied contact sporting activities worldwide.

Masvingo MDC A Youth Assembly mourns former studio 263 actress and model Anne Nhira ‘Vimbai’.

Zim Arts Industry full of talent but lacks government support.

As the MDC A youths we are deeply hurt by the passing on of Zimbabwe’s greatest talent in the mould of Anne Nhira. As MDCA youth we believe that the future lies in the hands of the young people across all sectors be it arts, sporting or leadership. It is therefore a difficult moment when one of such potential people dies.

We send our condolence to Anne Nhira’s family , friends and Zimbabwe as whole on such a sad loss. It has been a dark and unfortunate year for our country following the passing on of high profile like Soul Jah Love, Genius Ginimbi Kadungure among others. Time is never enough however we put all to the Almighty God.

The circumstances behind the death are so painful. Rogue behaviour and crime is rising across Africa and something has to be done to curb this. It is again the victims ‘Artists’ whom we expect to nature the behaviour of young unemployed youths from drugs and crime. *Hats off to Ziya arts group”Sabhuku Vharazipi” in our own Masvingo area for defieng a odds of earning little than you deserve but you continue to educate ` In this Covid 19 era, awareness campaigns have been a success through actors ,models and musicians.

Popularly known as ‘Vimbai’ Anne Nhira became popular on The TV series Studio 263. She was also into music and featured in Cde Nduna song kuenda mberi.

Unlike in Nigeria where the Nollyhood actors are one of the most earning artists, Zim artists have left the industry with less or none deserving wealthy or worthwhile proceeds. A lot has to be done by the government to uplift the arts industry since it is vital in shaping up societies.

In South Africa as well the industry also pays better but it remains a nightmare to Zim artists who have benefited less from government suport except after death hounors of heroes status the case of Tuku and Soul Ja love not mentioning Gringo and others. The regime does not have its citizens at heart instead only sectors like mining where politicians are major actors benefit from the government.

The weaker or bad part rather of the government is when they even persecute artists who expose corruption or air their views concerning governance , the case of comedian Gonyeti not foggetting the subotaging of Hosiah Chipanga and Winky D’s songs by State TV and Radio stations for political reasons better known to the propagandist Arts and culture ministry.

As an alternative government, the MDCA has it on record on its SMART policy on the need to improve on technological advancement to suit internation standards in as much as production is concerned be it filming or recording.

A number of misgoverned or mismanaged sectors habours the upliftment of the arts industry in Zimbabwe eg poor Electricity, lack of capital, oppressive media laws just to mention but a few. Advocate Chamisa had the answers to the Arts Industry problems through his expertise in ICT. Zimbabwean Arts Industry should know that Advocate Chamisa and MDCA are determined for a tolerant , uniting and supportive ministry in Arts and Culture and Media.

Agenda 2021: Resistance And Resilience – A Clarion Call To The Youths

12-03-2021

By Stephen Sarkozy Chuma

This week the People’s President, Advocate Nelson Chamisa rolled out a course of action for the year, and encapsulated in #Agenda2021 is a special message to the youths.

The message is very clear and key if we are to survive from Emmerson Mnangagwa’s senseless onslaught targeted at young people at each and every turn.

Resistance, defiance and resilience MUST be our game as we take the dictator head on.

Mnangagwa and his gang have been very consistent in their evil scheming to annihilate the opposition.

No day passes without one of us being caged on useless charges.

Our youth leaders, Makomborero Haruzivishe, Cecilia Chimbiri, Joana Mamombe, ZINASU President Takudzwa Ngadziore and many others are currently languishing in prison for no apparent reason.

The regime is treating us like animals in a zoo that are caged at the owner’s will.

More than never before it is equally critical that we match or out do this fascist regime’s onslaught with equal force and more resistance.

From students, civil society leaders, trade unionists, journalists to political activists, Mnangagwa’s forked repressive hand has reached every grouping.

No one is safe from Mnangagwa except his family!

The dictator, Mnangagwa is the common denominator as far as our nervous conditions as citizens is concerned.

He is the number one enemy of citizens!

As rightly put forward by President Chamisa in #Agenda2021 speech, the time for citizens convergence against authoritarianism is now.

Change is what we all seek and it is within our reach. We are the change we seek.

We can not play victim card forever and watch while each one of us are caged on rotational basis at Mnangagwa’s will.

We deserve our freedom and we got to fight for it!

Defiance, resistance and resilience against dictatorship must be our daily bread.

JUST IN: Sheffield United Manager Quits Job

Chris Wilder has left his role as manager of Sheffield United.

Wilder took over at Bramall Lane in May 2016 and guided the club to promotion from League One in his first season.

He took Sheffield United into the Premier League just two seasons later and led them to a hugely creditable ninth-place finish in their first campaign back in the top flight.

However, the Blades have spent almost the entirety of this season bottom of the Premier League table and are currently 12 points off safety with 10 games remaining.

They face Leicester at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

A press conference with Wilder to preview that match was cancelled by Sheffield United on Friday.

Tensions between Wilder and club owner Abdullah Bin Musa’ad Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud have heightened recently.

FULL TEXT: Zanu PF Attacks Chamisa Over His Agenda 2021 Address

The
 Revolutionary
 Party
ZANU
 PF
has
noted
with
contempt,
the
MDC A
veiled
threats
 to
unseat
a
constitutionally
elected
Government
 following
pronouncements
 by
Mr
Nelson
 Chamisa
during
 his
hollow
 address
of
09
March
2021,
dubbed,
Agenda
2021.

In
 his
long
 monologue,
Mr
Chamisa
did
not
only
 fail
to
demonstrate
leadership
but
failed
to
instil
hope
 in
his
fractured
party,
instead,
rumbling
about
seeking
 to
establish
pockets
of resistance
 across
the
country
similar
to
the
ill-fated
31
July
2020
attempted
violent
demonstrations,
 whose
sole
attempt
was
to
 destabilise
the
country.

While, ZANU
 PF
has
the
capacity
to
 thwart
such
machinations,
as
a
law
 abiding organisation,
 we
rest
the
matter
 with
the
law
 enforcement
agencies.
 The
people
of
Zimbabwe
 have
had
 enough
 of
 this
 childish
rambling
 from
 a
party
 clearly
 running
short
of
oxygen.
ZANU
PF and
its
leadership
have
 no
agenda
whatsoever
to
 decimate
 any
opposition
political
party.

We
 cherish
 democracy
as
born
out
of
a
protracted
 Liberation
 Struggle
which
 freed
 our
people
 from
 the
shackles
of
colonialism
and
settler
regime,
winning
 freedom
 and independence
 in
1980.
Of course
there
was
no
MDC
then,
 not
even
in
Zimbabwe’s
 womb.
 ZANU
 PF
therefore
urges
political
players
to
embrace
dialogue
and
join
others
under
POLAD in
the
 spirit
 of
frank
 engagements
 instead
 of
 focusing
on
divisive
and
polarising
antics.

For
 the
 record,
 ZANU
 PF is
 proud
 of
 how
 our
Government
has
rallied
the
nation
in
 fighting Covid-19
 and
significant
strides
have
been
made
including
among
others,
acquiring
 the
vaccine
which
 has
seen
 our
frontline
warriors
being
inoculated.
It
is
therefore
not
only preposterous
but
 irresponsible
 to
 say
 the
 least,
 for
 Mr
 Chamisa
 and
 his
 lot
 to
 suggest
 or
 opine
 that
 our
 government
is
using
Covid-19
to
 delay
by-elections.

The
 President,
Cde
ED
Mnangagwa
has
reiterated
 severally,
that
his
objective
in
all
these
 measures
 put
 in
 place
is
to
save
 our
people’s
lives
because
 once
lost,
they
can
 never
be
 recovered.
It
is
therefore
mindboggling
that
given
this
imperative,
Mr
Chamisa’s
faction
is
 obsessed
with
by-elections
which
of
course,
 by
 all
standards
 have
 no
effect
to
ZANU
 PF’s two
thirds
parliamentary
majority.

Be
 that
 as
 it
 may,
 ZANU
 PF points
 it
 clearly,
 that
 the
 Party
 does
 not
 interfere
 with
 parliamentary
 recalls
involving
non members
and
does
not
interfere
with
the
running
of
by-elections,
which
is
a
prerogative
of
the
Zimbabwe
Electoral
Commission
(ZEC).
The
Party
is
 more
than
ready
for
the
by-elections,
except
that
we
 respect
 the
measures
put
in
place
to save
lives
during
these
deadly
 times.

ZANU
PF is
 quite
alive
however,
that
Mr
Chamisa
is
under
pressure
to
seek
 relevance
 in
 the
 face
of
mass
 exodus
of
key
members
from
 his
party
who
have
defected
to
the
Revolutionary
 Party.
This
is
not
our
 problem,
 but
his,
and
 we
 shall
continue
 to
welcome
 all those
who
have
 elected
to
return
back
to
ZANU
PF,
the
People’s
Party.
That
 should
 not
be
 equated
to
forming
a
 one party
state.

Zimbabwe
remains
a
multiparty
democracy
and
ZANU
PF cherishes
that.
 However,
we
 don’t
 offer
political
consultancy
to
collapsing
parties.
As
such,
 those
tired
of
civil
 political engagement
must
stop
venting
out
their
frustration
through
 experimenting
with
the
 country’s
hard
won
Freedom,
Peace
 and
Unity. ZANU
 PF urges
its
membership
to
remain
vigilant
in
the
face
 of
these

 sponsored
 regime
 change
machinations
 and
 implore
the

ED Meets Dynamos Executive At State House

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has followed up his recent meeting with Highlanders Football Club executive with another against rival Dynamos FC.

Presidential spokesperson George Charamba through his Jamwanda2 Twitter account posted about the meeting saying the meeting was part of Mnangagwa’s support to the most followed sport which has not been active since COVID-19 started.

“This morning His Excellency the President, Cde E.D. Mnangagwa met the Executive of Dynamos Football Club as part of his support for the national sport which has been frozen by COVID-19 pandemic.

“This inactivity has created financial challenges for most Clubs in the country, motivating the President to take a keen interest in their fate and how it can be improved. Football remains the leading sport in the country.

“The Club gave the President its iconic jersey bearing his initials. A few weeks back, His Excellency the President met with the hierarchy of Highlanders Football Club to listen to challenges they face in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic which has stymied contact sporting activities worldwide.

“Two key faces in Dynamos FC are former Minister of Information and Publicity, Hon Webster Shamu, and Cde Marechera, both war veterans. Cde Marechera who appears in the accompanying picture with Dynamos Chairman, participated in historic Zanla attack on Grand Reef Airbase, a mission which was led by late Paradzayi Zimondi, Augustine Chihuri,” said Jamwanda.

Magufuli Airlifted To India For COVID-19 Treatment

Tanzania’s main opposition leader has said President John Magufuli, an avowed coronavirus sceptic out of public view for nearly two weeks, is in India receiving medical treatment for COVID-19 and is in a serious condition.

Tundu Lissu, who lost last year’s election to Magufuli, on Thursday cited medical and security sources in Kenya for his information that the president had been transferred from a hospital in Kenya to India and was in a coma – but did not provide evidence.

Tanzanian government spokesmen have stayed mum during days of speculation over the 61-year-old Magufuli’s whereabouts and health.

In power since 2015 and nicknamed “The Bulldozer”, Magufuli was last seen on February 27 looking his normal robust self during a ceremony at State House in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania’s largest city.

Lissu told the news agency Reuters that Magufuli was flown to Kenya’s Nairobi Hospital at the start of this week and then on to an unknown destination in India. “He’s comatose since yesterday morning,” he said, without elaborating.

Kenya’s Nation newspaper cited unidentified political and diplomatic sources on Wednesday saying that an African leader, which it did not name, was being treated for COVID-19 on a ventilator at a Nairobi hospital.

India’s foreign ministry and its high commission in Nairobi had no immediate comment.

‘COVID denialism in tatters’

Magufuli has played down the threat from COVID-19, saying God and remedies such as steam inhalation would protect Tanzanians. He has mocked coronavirus tests, denounced vaccines as part of a Western conspiracy to take Africa’s wealth, and opposed mask-wearing and social distancing.

“His COVID denialism in tatters, his prayer-over-science folly has turned into a deadly boomerang,” Lissu tweeted in the early hours of Thursday.

According to Tanzania’s constitution, Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan would take over for the rest of the five-year term if the president is unable to discharge duties.

World Health Organization’s Africa director, Matshidiso Moeti, told a news conference on Thursday that she had no direct information on Magufuli’s health and it would be unwise to speculate. She noted that Tanzania now recognised the danger of COVID-19 following two senior officials’ death and said more data would be welcome.

“Whatever is the case with President Magufuli, we can only wish him well if these stories are indeed true, and we very much reiterate our preparedness to support the government and the people of Tanzania,” she said.

Tanzania stopped reporting coronavirus data in May last year when it said it had 509 cases and 21 deaths, according to data held at the WHO. In January, Magufuli said vaccines for the disease were “dangerous”.

“Vaccines are not good. If they were, then the white man would have brought vaccines for HIV/AIDS,” he said earlier this year.

However, in February in a surprise change in the official stance on coronavirus, Magufuli said the government had not forbidden the wearing of masks and encouraged those who wanted to do so.

However, he warned against what he claimed were faulty face coverings on sale in the country, suggesting that high coronavirus-related death rates worldwide could be linked to the uptake of such products and claiming those in Tanzania’s rural areas were less likely to fall victim to the virus because they tended not to wear them.

“The government has not forbidden mask-wearing. But we have to be careful about which masks we wear. We will perish. Don’t think we’re loved so much. Economic war is bad,” Magufuli told a congregation at a church service in Dar-es-Salaam.

Chimanimani Woman Spotted Breastfeeding Snake

BREASTFEEDING is beautiful and natural.

It is a sacred bond between a mother and her young one.

However, it becomes scary when a woman in menopause breastfeeds a snake.

This is the case of a Chimanimani woman who has sent tongues wagging after being spotted at her friend’s house breastfeeding the giant reptile.

The hard to believe incident is now before Chief Mutambara’s court as two elderly friends – Gogo Savie Nenohwe and Gogo Ethel Sithole – are answering to the witchcraft allegations being levelled against them.

Gogo Nenohwe was spotted by a 12-year-old girl as she breastfed the snake while uttering names of fellow villagers whom she wanted her ‘baby’ to deal with.

Chief Mutambara urged the two women to consult a white garment prophetess, Madzimai Loice Mukono. The visit to Madzimai Mukono’s shrine saw the skeletons tumbling from the duo’s closets as the prophetess revealed that a snake that resides at Gogo Sithole’s homestead is used by the ladies for witchcraft.

When the case was heard before Chief Mutambara’s Court last week on Saturday, the key witness narrated the spine chilling incident.

“I saw Gogo Nenohwe breastfeeding a very big snake which had a red cloth and beads tied around it. After breastfeeding it, she took out a plate of food and fed the snake. I did not see what food she was feeding it, but I heard her muttering names of fellow villagers and telling the snake to deal with them,” narrated the minor.

After reporting the case to Gogo Sithole and realising that she was not taking any action, the young girl then reported the matter to other villagers.  It was also brought before the village head, Ms Molline Nenohwe’s attention, who then took the issue to Chief Mutambara.

The two women were then summoned to the traditional leader’s court.

“Why is it that when this girl told you that she had seen your friend breastfeeding a snake at your house you did not take any action? It is clear that this girl is traumatised by what she saw,” said Chief Mutambara.

In her defence, Gogo Sithole said when the girl brought the matter to her attention, she could not travel to the chief’s court to make a report.

“I did not have money to bring the matter to your court. I also did not confront Nenohwe because I knew that once I confronted her, I would need to bring the matter before the chief’s court, yet I couldn’t do that at that moment,” she said.

But Gogo Sithole’s niece, Maria, said she used to share a room with the snake.

“I used to sleep in the room where Gogo Nenohwe was seen breastfeeding the snake. The snake stays in that room. I stopped using the room because of that and begged my aunt to move me to another room. Sometimes the snake comes out to bask in the sun,” said Maria.

Other villagers in Nenohwe Village also said they have come across a giant snake that has a red cloth tied around it. Villagers say the snake has been spotted basking in the sun at Gogo Sithole’s homestead.

Gogo Nenohwe remained tight-lipped during the hearing and refused to entertain the media after the court session. Madzimai Mukono is now on a mission to capture the snake.

“We went to Gogo Sithole’s homestead to capture the snake on Monday, but failed to do so as a multitude had gathered to witness the drama. We will go back later this week and we hope to succeed in our mission.

“After capturing the snake, we will bring it to the chief’s court,” said Madzimai Mukono.

Manicaland police spokesman, Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the accident which happened outside the Zupco Mutare depot.

He could not be drawn into revealing the name of the deceased as his relations have not been notified yet.

Circumstances were that the driver disembarked from the bus which was stationary but its hand brake failed resulting in the vehicle moving unattended and crashed him to death.

Traffic police officers quickly attended the scene and ferried the body to Mutare Provincial Hospital.

Shock As Son Dangles Manhood, Urinates On The Couch Over Food

A heartbroken woman had to drag her unruly son to court after he came home drunk on several occasions and at one time dangled his manhood before her and urinated on the sofas after accusing her of giving him inadequate food.

Agnes Ndlovu has had no peace at the hands of her rowdy son, Dalubuhle Ncube (43), who insults her whenever he comes home from a beer binge.

Agnes told a court that her son at times comes home at around midnight and shouts at her.

She went on to say she had tried on several occasions to reprimand him, but he never cared to listen.

Instead he became so unruly and pushed her violently against the wall causing her to suffer a fractured arm.

Dalubuhle dangled his manhood in front of his mother and urinated on the sofas, while saying he was fixing her for giving him little sadza.

Seeing that her child had crossed the line, she approached the courts.

“I’m applying for a protection order against my son Dalubuhle who harasses me, he always comes home drunk and insults me for giving him little sadza. When I tried to reprimand him he pushed me against the wall and I fractured an arm. He would urinate on sofas saying he is fixing me and I had to leave him after he shouted obscenities at me.

What he did is against our African culture,” said the troubled Ndlovu.

The presiding magistrate Jeconia Prince Ncube ordered Dalubuhle not to verbally and emotionally abuse his mother.

Probe As Patient Kills Self At Hospital

By A Correspondent- Police in Marondera have launched a probe into a suspected suicide incident which occurred at Mahusekwa District Hospital on Tuesday this week, involving a female patient.

NewsDay heard that on the fateful day, the patient, identified as Norest Matiyenga (38), from Chigodora village under Chief Chihota, fled from a female ward and went to the male ward on the first floor where she plunged to the ground headlong, leading to her death.

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesperson Inspector Tendai Mwanza confirmed the incident and referred further questions to his bosses in Harare.

Although Mashonaland East provincial medical director Paul Matsvimbo could not be reached for comment yesterday, documents shown to NewsDay indicated that the now-deceased was admitted to the hospital on March 3.

On March 9, Matiyenga allegedly escaped from the female ward and proceeded to the male ward on the first floor where she jumped to her death.

Drama As Stepfather Is Busted Bedding Daughter-in-Law

A man from Horongondo Village in Gokwe has been dragged to Chief Mkoka’s traditional court after he was caught having sex with his daughter-in-law.

A family insider, who spoke to B- Metro on condition of anonymity, said Tobias Chiyangwa (37), who works in Kwekwe, fell ill at work and decided to go home without telling his family that he was coming home.

He arrived home at around 2.30am on Thursday last week and headed straight to his bedroom hut. On entering his bedroom, he got the shock of his life as he found his stepfather, Levious Mataire (47), bonking his wife Moreblessing Chuma (28).

“It was sad after he caught his stepfather having sex with his wife Moreblessing. His stepfather tried to flee, but it was too late as he had already seen him. He did not do anything to them since he was not feeling well,” said the family insider.

The family insider went on to say a shamed Moreblessing fled.

“After being caught, Moreblessing failed to face her husband and has since fled to her parents’ home in Gweru,” said the family source.

When contacted for a comment Tobias said: “I caught them having sex on my matrimonial bed. I have since put the bed out of the bedroom and I will no longer use it. I reported the matter to Chief Mkoka. My wife has left for her parents’ home in Gweru and left a letter of apology under the pillow in our matrimonial bedroom,” said Tobias.

Chief Mkoka confirmed the incident.

“We are handling a matter of infidelity where a man was caught having sex with his daughter-in-law. If he is found guilty he would be fined three cattle for sleeping with his daughter-in-law and would be ordered to buy a new bed for his stepson,” he said.

Maid (21) Caught Red Handed S_exually Abusing 10yr Old Minor Boy Arrested

By A Correspondent- With the nation still reeling in shock after a Harare woman Precious Teya (26) was arrested for bedding a 13-year-old boy, a 21-year-old woman in Bulawayo, who was employed as a maid, might just steal that “depraved” crown after she was also allegedly caught red-handed in the act with her employer’s 10-year-old boy.

Anele Mathe from Bradfield suburb lured her employer’s son, who is doing Grade Four at a local private school, and had sexual intercourse with him in his bedroom.

It is reported that on 20 February 2021 and at around 9pm Mathe was playing with the boy in his bedroom while other children were playing in another room.

She seized the opportunity to sexually groom the boy. She switched off the light and pulled his trousers down and also undressed in the process before she lay on the bed and told the boy to come on top of her.

She allegedly forced the boy’s manhood into her privates and instructed him how to do the sexual act.

It is alleged that while she was still in the middle of tutoring the boy on how to poke, his mother entered the room and found the two in the act.

The boy’s mother went and reported the matter to the police leading to Mathe’s arrest.

Mathe, who is now facing charges of aggravated indecent assault as defined in Section (66) (b) (1) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act Chapter 9:23, was not asked to plead when she appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Shepherd Mjanja.

She is languishing in remand prison after the magistrate remanded her in custody to 26 April 2021.

Byo City Council To Sell Repossessed Stands

Bulawayo City Council (BCC) has given notice to resell housing stands repossessed after their owners failed to develop them within the stipulated timeframe.

In terms of section 5 of the Titles Registration and Derelict Lands Act, Chapter 20:20, council is empowered to repossess and resell undeveloped housing stands after five years.

“Whenever there remains due and unpaid for space of five years any rate or assessment payable to any municipality or other public body upon any immovable property in Zimbabwe and such property is abandoned, deserted and left derelict, and the owner thereof cannot be found, it shall be lawful for the person or body claiming such rate or assessment to apply to the High Court, stating the amount claimed to be due and the grounds for applying for relief under this Act,” the Act reads.

Council repossessed hundreds of undeveloped stands last year with owners citing the harsh economic climate as inhibiting their development.

Town clerk Christopher Dube said repossessed stands would be sold on a first-come first-served basis beginning today.

“Notice is hereby given that the BCC will be allocating a limited number of repossessed residential stands (17) on a first-come first-served basis to applicants on the council waiting list on Friday March 12, 2021,” part of the notice issued on Wednesday, read.

“Only applicants with full purchase price will be considered. The average stand prices are US$4 000 or Zimdollar equivalent for a 200-square metre stand size.”

Council periodically repossesses stands whose beneficiaries would not have developed over a certain period after purchase. After repossession, beneficiaries are given the first option to repurchase the stand at a price determined by the city valuer. Bulawayo has a housing waiting list of over 100 000, with less than 30 000 housing stands availed in the past decade despite a growing number of people in need of houses.

In December 2018, council approved the sale of housing stands in United States dollars a move that was widely denounced by residents as anti-poor and condemning several thousands of people on the councils’ waiting list to permanent lodgers.

Avenging Spirit Demands Top Up Beasts

The avenging spirit of a man who was allegedly murdered by his lover’s brother almost 50 years ago is wreaking havoc in his killer’s family, demanding two more beasts as compensation after the 26 initially paid in the past.

The spirit of Chizemo is reportedly venting its anger on the Mashairenyi family in Mutambara, Chimanimani, following his grisly murder by Erick Mashairenyi.

When he appeared before Chief Mutambara’s court last week on Saturday, Mashairenyi confirmed that he, together with his friend only identified as Musoni, murdered Chizemo in 1974 after discovering that he was in love with his (Mashairenyi)’s sister.

According to Mashairenyi, the avenging spirit was appeased in the 1980s when he handed over 18 beasts to the Chizemos.

This, however, was after the then Chief Mutambara, the late Sam Mutambara, had instructed him to do so, and not the avenging spirit.

“The then chief ruled that I compensate the avenging spirit with 18 beasts. By then, the spirit was not yet wreaking havoc in my family. I followed the chief’s instructions hoping that the deceased’s spirit would not haunt me, but I was wrong,” said Mashairenyi.

Mashairenyi’s son, Tapuwa, said when the avenging spirit began manifesting in the 1990s, his father developed a mental illness and left home to stay on the streets.

“We did not think that it was Chizemo’s spirit affecting him as we had already appeased it. We finally discovered that Chizemo’s avenging spirit was behind my father’s mental illness in 2009 when the spirit demanded eight more beasts.

When the top-up was done, Mashairenyi recovered from the mental illness.

But twelve years later, the avenging spirit has begun making fresh demands of two more beasts.

The avenging spirit is also saying some traditional cloths should be handed over to the Chizemos.

While the Musonis are yet to face the wrath of the avenging spirit, Tapuwa begged Chief Mutambara to summon them so that they will pay the other beast to the Chizemos considering that the Mashairenyis have done the bulk of the compensations.

“Musoni died a long time ago and his children are not being tormented by Chizemo’s avenging spirit. It is just targeting us. The Musonis are so violent and we are afraid of approaching them. We have lost all our cattle in trying to appease Chizemo’s avenging spirit,” said Tapuwa.

But Chief Mutambara ordered the Mashairenyis to engage the Musonis and chart a way forward on how to appease the avenging spirit.  Tapuwa pointed out that the Chizemos did not perform rituals to appease the deceased’s spirit when they received the compensation, hence the continued wrath of the spirit.

He said his marriages are not lasting and blamed it on the avenging spirit.

But the deceased’s daughter, Sarah Chizemo, said Tapuwa’s troubled relationships are not a result of her father’s avenging spirit.

“He has had six wives and all of them left because of his womanising antics. Have you ever heard of an avenging spirit that causes promiscuity? They should just pay up what they owe our family and not beat about the bush.

“Why would we accept our father’s spirit back into the family when they haven’t paid everything to us? We need what is due to us before conducting the rituals.

“Mashairenyi and his friend killed my father and I grew up without a father. I should have been a teacher leading a good life, but I failed to do so because there was no one to support my dream,” she said.

Woman Beats Ex-hubby, Girlfriend Over STI Infection

court gavel

By A Correspondent- A bitter woman who was allegedly infected with a sexually transmitted disease (STD) by her ex-husband went on a rampage and beat up her former spouse and his alleged girlfriend after finding them sitting together in the living room.

Sikhululekile Moyo was married to Owen Moyo who works in Gweru.

According to Owen, he and his wife separated after a misunderstanding. They have a child together.

But it seems Sikhululekile, whose name literally means to be at peace and free, is not at peace with her ex-husband.

According to her troubled former husband Sikhululekile would allegedly phone Owen in the dead of the night and shout at him.

As if that was not enough she would also send vitriolic verbal attacks to her ex-husband.

The vilification did not end at that. Sikhululekile visited her former sweetheart and found him in the company of his alleged lover.

It is said she went berserk and beat them while accusing Owen of infecting her with an STI.

Owen had to flee to West Commonage Court and sought a protection order against his ex-wife.

Owen told the court that his ex-wife had a habit of ambushing and beating him together with his female companions.

“I am applying for a protection order against Sikhululekile Moyo who is my ex-wife. She harasses me and usually phones me during the dead of the night and insults me. When she meets me walking in the company of a female she would beat her or insult her. She also comes to my workplace and accuses me of not contributing to the upkeep of the child,” he said.

Sikhululekile defended herself saying: “I have never harassed him. I only went to his home after I was informed by his relative that he was sitting in the company of his girlfriend. I had to go there because I wanted money for the upkeep of the child and to visit his parents because they love me and still consider me as their daughter-in-law.”

She added: “I got angry after his girlfriend insulted me. I had to beat her up and I also beat Owen up because I was angry that he infected me with STI after he begged me to have sex with him saying he wants to marry me.”

The presiding magistrate granted Owen the protection order against Sikhululekile. Sikhululekile was ordered not to insult Owen and not to send him abusive WhatsApp messages and never to call him.

She was also ordered not to visit Owen at his workplace.

Local Govt Minister Fingered In Tender Storm

Local Government minister July Moyo is entangled in a scandal in which a company linked to a businessman at the centre of the Chilonga row was allegedly awarded a US$9,3 million contract to supply water pumps to the City of Harare without going to tender.

Treasury released the funds for the contract at the height of Harare’s crippling water crisis in October 2020.

This was after Moyo presented a paper in Cabinet requesting government to intervene to contain a potential water problem, following the city’s plea for assistance.

Moyo’s paper prompted the Cabinet to resolve that the Treasury urgently releases US$9,3 million to procure critical equipment for repairing the Morton Jaffray Water Works plant, which had been shut down.

Subsequently, the multi-million-dollar contract was awarded to Petricho Irrigation, which was represented by Paul Kruger in Zimbabwe, allegedly without going to tender.

In terms of the Procurement Act, any contract exceeding US$1 million should go through a public tender process.

The Procurement regulatory authority of Zimbabwe (Praz) acting chief executive officer Clever Ruswa confirmed that the contract was awarded without their involvement.

“It is the responsibility of Harare city council to plan and undertake all the procurement proceedings. If the procurement exceeds the stipulated thresholds that is when it comes to Praz for review by the Special Procurement Oversight committee (SPOC). The Special Procurement Oversight committee only reviews processes but does not award tenders,” Ruswa said.

“Praz has a monitoring and evaluation committee that monitors and evaluates procuring entities. If it picks some transactions which are of a criminal nature these will be forwarded to law enforcement agents or the office of the auditor General for further investigation.”

Interestingly, Petrichor Irrigation was allegedly given the contract at Moyo’s recommendation.

Ironically Kruger has, along with his business partner Darren Coetzee of Dendairy, also been at the centre of a storm triggered by a government directive to evict over 12 000 villagers from Chilonga communal lands in Chiredzi to pave way for a lucrative lucerne grass project.

Kruger and Coetzee are already producing the grass, a key ingredient in dairy cattle feed, in Kwekwe.

In October last year, the duo, in the company of Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga toured Chiredzi, where they assured the restive villagers that they were not going to be evicted.

Statutory Instrument (SI) 50 promulgated by government would give Dendairy right over 10 000 hectares of land.

On Monday, government moved to cool flaring tempers by amending the SI, removing wording indicating that the evictions were meant to pave way for a lucerne grass project and replacing them with wording indicating that what would be established was an “irrigation project”.

Investigations by the Zimbabwe Independent this week revealed that procurement regulations were allegedly flouted in awarding the US$9,3 million contract to Petricho Irrigation, as legally provided tendering processes were not followed. It also emerged that Petricho has previously been engaged by the ministry of Local Government, which Moyo presides over, to proffer solutions to the country’s crippling water shortages, further raising questions of conflict of interest.

Active investigations are underway to establish circumstances under which the contract was awarded as the capital continues battling water shortages.

“We know from our privileged position that other arms of government are investigating areas around that contract,” a senior government official said.

“What is interesting here is that the minister recommended a company he has worked with at the ministry soon after he had encouraged government to offer financial assistance to avert a major water crisis. So we ended up with a situation whereby the company was cherrypicked for the contract and became a recipient of the funds released by Treasury.”

Moyo reportedly used the company’s previous similar works in Bulawayo and Gweru to raise its profile highlighting that it had “the correct engineering technicalities to be implemented”.

Moyo was quoted in the state-newspaper, Sunday News last year in may saying: “Engineer Kruger was in the city (Bulawayo) last week and he gave me a preliminary report where he said the city’s water supply could last for 13 months, all that is needed is the correct engineering technicalities to be implemented.

“What we are saying is that every city must have an independent engineering consulting firm. In Harare, they require US$29 million to address their water challenges, but when the consultant did (his) work the figure was revised down to US$9,3 million, Gweru wanted US$2,9 million, we have been able to solve the crisis using US$450 000, I am not being sceptical about Bulawayo, but I am saying let’s have a second opinion.”

Council insiders told the Independent this week that “the hasty awarding of the contract to Petricho effectively killed the spirit of competitiveness associated with public procurement. “In short, council can never be too sure if it got value for its money,” a Town house source said.

Contacted for comment yesterday, Moyo said he was having a meeting with the President.

City of Harare city council production manager Edmore Chawasemerwa, who superintended the installation of the pumps at Morton Jaffray Water Works, declined to comment. “I have referred all questions to the procurement (department). all those are procurement issues,” he said.

At the time of going to print, council procurement officials – supply chain manager Never murerwa and compliance officer abel Dzuke had not responded to questions.

Acting Town clerk mabhena moyo referred questions to Murerwa and Dzuke.

City spokesperson Michael Chideme said he had no answers to the questions yesterday.

However, sources allege that Chawasemerwa wrote to Kruger requesting for a bill of quantities (BoQ) relating to the work that was to be undertaken at Morton Jaffray, but did not get a response.

“Chawasemerwa knows so much about pumps, that is why he was insisting on a bill of quantities. But Kruger flatly refused to supply the bill of quantities and this infuriated Chawasemerwa, as he suspected that council could have been overcharged for the pumps it received,” a source alleged.

Kruger referred questions to officials he suggested were the “relevant people” without identifying them.

“I have forwarded your message to the relevant people,” Kruger said.

Petricho representative James Corey did not respond to questions.

Details about Petrichor Irrigation on its website show that the firm prides itself as a “world-class”, ‘turnkey’ irrigation service” that “designs, supplies and installs irrigation schemes.”

“We are the leading Agrico agents in Zimbabwe, offering robust products with cutting edge technology. We aim to provide value for money on our products, and to contribute to increase the farmers’ yields in our country,” the firm’s website reads.

With the capital’s water taps running dry for prolonged spells, authorities have explained that the acute shortage of foreign currency to import treatment chemicals and obsolete equipment at the pumping plants were the source of the challenges.

Harare has been struggling to provide water to its three million residents, giving rise to cholera and typhoid outbreaks, as people turn to unsafe water sources.-TheZimIndependent

Your Criticism Inspires Me, Says Chamisa

MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa says criticism from different quotas inspires him to provide leadership in Zimbabwe’s fight for political and economic emancipation.

He made the remarks while speaking at the Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiCZ) press conference to remember the Save Zimbabwe Campaign prayer meeting that was heavily crushed by the police on 11 March 2007.

“Some are saying Chamisa is silent and some say Chamisa makes a lot of noise in Zanu PF depending where you are and I can understand because it’s also a source of inspiration because I realize that people have hope and they want us to do something and say something more and we will provide that.

“The greatest mistake any leader can ever make is to assume that the leader is the struggle and is to assume that the leader is the alpha and omega of what the people must do, let us take back the struggle to where it belongs in the hands of the people.

“The country we want to see is in our hearts and in our heads, we can only unleash it for our future generations and for ourselves when we begin to all act not as politicians not as trade unions, churches but as citizens but the bottom line is for us to go back to our common denominator that which unites us which is Zimbabwean,” said Chamisa.

Meanwhile, the MDC Alliance leader claimed he had reached out to President Emmerson Mnangagwa through letters and emissaries for dialogue but the latter has snubbed him.

“I have written so many letters to Mnangagwa, I have sent emissaries to Mnangagwa to say come let us reason together this problem of Zimbabwe is too big for you, you are incapable of solving it alone, it takes two to tango come let’s look at the problem together but he does not listen. He has refused to listen, he has refused to understand where we are coming from.

“You can’t say the country is normal when Makomborero is in jail, when the student leaders are in jail, when Hopewell Chin’ono has charges, when senior political leaders in the MDC Alliance have charges and when workers have charges that cannot be normal. You cannot be the only one who is normal when everyone is wrong, that is what has to be corrected but it starts with understanding that something is fundamentally broken and it needs to be fixed and can only be fixed by all of us,” he said.

ZACC Joins Forces with Interpol, The Hawks To Seize Crime Properties

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) has joined forces with the International Criminal Police Organisation (Interpol) and South Africa’s Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) – The Hawks – to seize and forfeit 10 luxury properties bought through proceeds of crime.

This is part of efforts by Zimbabwe to repatriate funds that were externalised by highly organised criminal syndicates that have been bleeding the economy.

South Africa is home to millions of Zimbabweans who work in the neighbouring country, but the rich and famous who built empires through illicit financial flows also splurged millions of rands buying properties in areas such as Sandton and Dainfern – equivalent of Borrowdale Brooke Estate in Harare.

To track the properties for forfeiture, Zacc has roped in Interpol and The Hawks to close in on suspected criminals.

Zacc head of legal affairs Jessie Majome said plans were underway to track assets that comprise of ill-gotten wealth.

In Europe, lavish homes in Switzerland and Sweden bought by corrupt Zimbabweans will also be forfeited to the State.

As reported in January by the Zimbabwe Independent, Zacc has seized several plush homes and top-of-the-range cars like Range Rovers, Mercedes Benz and BMW, valued at over ZW$2 billion (US$2,38 million) from former public and private sector top officials including ex-cabinet ministers like Prisca Mupfumira and Walter Mzembi. Majome said: “Zacc signed Memoranda of understanding on corruption busting, including asset recovery in Southern Africa with Botswana and Zambia; in Europe with Sweden and Switzerland”.

Locally, she said the anti-graft board has filed two fresh cases to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) to seize and forfeit houses in Harare. The NPA will then make applications at the High Court for assert seizures.

The two new cases make the pending High Court seizure applications to 11 “with one – the Russell Mwenye case, having concluded successfully at that”.

Apart from the NPA, Zacc also works with the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe’s investigating arm – the Financial Intelligence Unit to fight crime using the Money Laundering and Proceeds of Crime Act.

“Our other cases are still pending especially given the recent lockdown. Our progress was hampered because our stakeholders that we rely on for investigations and profiling were also under lockdown, such as the deeds, companies, vehicle and births registries and the Financial Intelligence Unit,” Majome said.

“The chief Justice’s practice direction also placed our cases outside the ones that the courts were handling, that is, new criminal and urgent cases.”

Zacc has been busy seizing properties in high-end suburbs such as Borrowdale, Gletwin, Glen Lorne and Greystone Park, as owners failed to account for the source of wealth and could have violated the money Laundering and Proceeds of crime act.

Security Guards Steal Goods, Passport From Gold Miner Mathias Madziwanzira’s Ruwa Home

By A Correspondent- Two private security guards have been arrested after they allegedly broke into gold miner and clergyman, Mathias Madziwanzira’s Ruwa home at the weekend, where they stole goods valued at $670 565, a passport and a R60 000 wrist watch, among other items.

Mandiwanzira is the leader of Mathias and Mildred Ministries.

Chrispen Chiwashira (26), employed by Milmath Security, and Henry Mateyo (50), employed by Safeguard Security, yesterday appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi, who remanded them in custody to March 25 for trial.

In denying them bail, Mangosi said there was overwhelming evidence that the accused committed the crime as shown by the CCTV footage which was recorded as they gained entry into the house through the roof.

The pair allegedly dug a hole at the gate to gain entry into the premises. Among the stolen items were expensive perfumes valued at US$3 600, and a passport belonging to Mildred, Mandiwanzira’s wife.

Lancelot Mutsokoti represented the State.

Last year, nine armed robbers pounced on Madziwanzira’s home and stole processed gold, a pistol and cash.

Chinese Investor Rapes 17yr Old Housemaid

By A Correspondent- A Harare based Chinese investor, who allegedly raped his 17-year-old housemaid for months, promising to take her to China was on Wednesday hauled before magistrate Judith Taruvinga, who granted him $15 000 bail.

Li Qiang (61) was not asked to plead and his matter was remanded to March 23.

As he was about to leave the court premises, Li was immediately arrested by immigration officers for breaching his conditions of stay in Zimbabwe.

Allegations are that in September last year, the complainant was cleaning Qiang’s bedroom when the latter entered and locked the door from inside and raped her.

After the abuse, he allegedly ordered her to stay at his house as he promised to take her to China.

It is further alleged that he continued to rape her on several occasions, but the matter came to light when complainant visited her grandmother and narrated her ordeal.

A police report was made, leading to Li’s arrest.

Chilonga Villagers Vow To Stay Put

By A Correspondent- Chilonga villagers, whose impending eviction from their ancestral communal lands has caused a major outcry, have vowed to stay put, accusing government of toying with them.

Some of the villagers, who spoke to the Zimbabwe Independent this week, said government misled them by giving them repeated assurances that they would not be moved, only to be hit by a Statutory Instrument two weeks ago legalising their eviction.

In October last year, the villagers ambushed Vice-President Costantino Chiwenga, when he went on a tour of the winter maize project at Hippo Valley’s Kilimanjaro project in Chiredzi and asked him to clarify their fate.

Chiwenga, at the time, assured them that they would not be moved since the country had plenty of land.

The Vice-President appealed for amicable conflict resolution. He was accompanied by commercial farmers Nick Swanepoel and Paul Kruger, when he implored citizens to dialogue wherever there are disagreements.

The Chiredzi villagers said the government’s Statutory Instrument contradicted Chiwenga’s assurances.

Chiwenga said at the time: “We have plenty of land, so let’s open it. Let’s create and give our people jobs here. No one is being moved from their land. There is no other country which will be created. God did his job and finished it. He is not going to create another world. Let’s forget about it. So our small teapot, let’s treasure it. Let’s work together. Let’s not be confrontational. If there is any problem in the country, let’s sit down and resolve it amicably.”

However, a representative of Chilonga village heads Vhelemu Livison Chikutu said there was no proper consultation with villagers, who were totally opposed to the government decision to forcibly move them.

“We cannot allow our ancestral land to be auctioned while we clap hands,” he said.

“If we ever allow this Darren Coetzee and Kruger to grab our land without resistance, then our children will never forgive us. We won’t go anywhere and that is why we had to apply for an interdict challenging the constitutionality of Statutory Instrument 50 of 2021 which was promulgated by government last week, together with its empowering provision being section 10(3)(d) of the Communal Land Act,” Chituku added.

“The government is not living up to its promises. If you remember last year, VP Chiwenga told us that whenever we have a deadlock, we should resolve the problem amicably. He also assured us that we will not be displaced, but the opposite is true.

“They just came up with an SI which had February 26 2021 as a deadline for us to vacate our ancestral land. Our destination was not specified. This shows how hypocritical our government can be. What the Vice-President said and what is on the ground is on the contrary. Anyway the bottom line is we are not going anywhere. We are waiting for them to make the next move said,” he further said.

Chituku was the first applicant while the land rights pressure group, the Masvingo Centre for Advocacy, Research and Development (Macrad) is the second applicant.

The SI 50 of 2021 ordered the Shangaan community to permanently relocate from the Chilonga communal land and the setting aside of such land effectively started from February 26, 2021, being the day of publication.

The Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (Zela) has filed an urgent chamber application at the Masvingo High Court seeking to interdict government from going ahead with its plan to displace more than 12 000 villagers from Chilonga in Chiredzi to pave way for a lucerne farming project.

Government issued another SI 163A of 2021 stating that the Chilonga project was an irrigation scheme.

Number Plates Shortages Haunt Govt

By A Correspondent- Government has acknowledged that shortage of vehicle number plates countrywide is causing inconveniences to motorists who are sometimes arrested for driving unregistered cars.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona said the shortage of number plates is caused by the fact that the country imports them.

Minister Mhona said this in response to MDC-A Makoni Central MP Mr David Tekeshe who had asked him what Government was doing to address the number plates problem during the Wednesday’s Question and Answer session in the National Assembly.

Mr Tekeshe said it was worrying that police were arresting motorists for driving cars without number plates when the problem lies with the department responsible for their issuance.

Minister Mhona said Government is working to address the shortage of number plates.

“Yes, it is true that the issue of number plates has caused havoc in our country. The number plates that we use in this country are imported which means we need foreign currency to buy the number plates” he said.

Minister Mhona however, said what was encouraging was that the Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development, Prof Amon Murwira was working with students from various universities to solve the issue of number plates.

“So in the near future I believe the Minister will be coming to this House with good news that number plates are now being manufactured locally thereby improving supply of the number plates and also saving foreign currency,” he said.

Minister Mhona said Government departments need to reach a consensus to avoid inconveniencing motorists.

“The issue that he has raised also touches on the Ministry of Home Affairs, but as he has said, I would like to propose that the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development work together with the Ministry of Home Affairs so that we have a way forward in resolving this issue, so that people with cars that have temporary number plates can move on our roads freely,” said Minister Mhona.

He said the country was also losing a lot of revenue as unregistered vehicles were not remitting any tax to the country.

“The number plates that are given when entering into the country are not the same with the number plates that are then put on the vehicle. Furthermore, these temporary plates are not good for our economy because if a car has temporary number plates, that car is not registered and as such does not pay the fees. When the car is finally issued with our number plates, that is when the Government benefits especially the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, through registration fees. It is our wish to start manufacturing these number plates locally as soon as possible,” he said.-statemedia

Has Uebert Angel Announced He’s Now Zimbabwe’s Ambassador To Greece? What We Know So Far…

At a time when it’s been revealed he is being trained for an ambassadorial role, the controversial preacher, Uebert Angel has already announced he is relocating to Greece.

Uebert Angel (real surname, Mudzanire) has attempted a-Bushiri on his list of victims (for sex offences and fraud) by flying from UK to Zimbabwe following the launching of the offloading of the 6 year long investigation by ZimEye into his misconduct and abuses in December 2020, which was this year resumed two weeks ago.

Mudzanire is now an ambassador, if official documents at the Foreign Affairs Ministry two days ago, are anything to go by. The development further suggests he was already an ambassador by end of last year when his mentee Shepherd Bushiri secretly fled South Africa on a Malawian diplomatic passport, running away from prosecution for fraud.

What would make him desert the UK, religious pilgrimage, or another kind of excursion? Angel currently has police cases piling up in UK.

The events since November last year suggest Uebert Angel obtained life lessons from Shepherd Bushiri’s escape which made him rush to negotiate a diplomatic placing in his home country, Zimbabwe 3 weeks later.

On the 8th December, the preacher announced saying him and his wife are now relocating to Central Macedonia.

He wrote in his Facebook portal:

“BeBe and I are making GREECE our HOME in CENTRAL MACEDONIA in the prophetic city of THESSALONIKI to be exact. Why THESSALONIKI?

“That’s where the Letter to the THESSALONIANS is addressed to and the ONLY book where the RAPTURE is referred to explicitly… so this is a prophetic CITY.

“We are in the process of establishing THE GOOD NEWS TV studio as we speak. JESUS IS COMING SOON. We are not moving from BRITAIN > though… so no changes there.

“Right now we are getting ready for the grand opening of the 1200 seater BRIERLEY HILL CONVENTION CENTRE in UK this 2021, THE HIPPODROME (Harare), THE GOOD NEWS CITY (Zim) & many more around the world.”

Man Caught Having S*x With Daughter-in-law

If he is found guilty he would be fined three cattle for sleeping with his daughter-in-law and would be ordered to buy a new bed for his stepson,” he said.- B-Metro

Madzibaba Snatches Gold Panner’s Wife

NO good has ever come out of bedding a married woman and even if you are a man of God, the Lord will not protect you from a raging jilted husband.

We are reminded of these words by a horrendous incident which happened in Zananda Village under Chief Nhema’s area in Shurugwi, Midlands province where a prophet is feared to have suffered impotence after his manhood was sliced with a piece of a broken beer bottle by a gold panner who had caught him having sex with his wife in their matrimonial bedroom.

Richard Mbaya, popularly known as Madzibaba Richy, will live to rue the day Sunday Madamba busted him bedding his wife, Waraidzo Mapuranga.

It is reported that Madamba was enraged when he unexpectedly came home to find his wife canoodling in bed with Madzibaba Richy.

According to a source from the area, Mapuranga was frequenting prayers and fellowships at Madzibaba Richy’s church until she became so close to the “Man of God”.

It is alleged that Madamba, who was also suspecting his wife of cheating on him, had his suspicions confirmed when he came home unexpected.

Upon arrival he couldn’t believe his ears when he heard his wife groaning in pleasure while enjoying the prophet’s one-eyed monster.

Boiling with anger, he forced open the door and found the two giving each other the time of their lives. Madamba short-circuited the two lovebirds’ intimate act when he started assaulting them.

“He first threw several punches to his wife and intensified his assaults with booted feet before he turned to Madzibaba Richy. He violently pulled him and kicked him all over the body before he struck him several times with a beer bottle on the head.

“And things took an even more sinister turn when he broke a beer bottle and used its pieces to stab Madzibaba Richy on his back and manhood.

“Reports from his relatives are that he has not had an erection since and it is feared that the injuries might be permanent. He is also having trouble urinating,” said the source who declined to be named.

The source further said during the attack both Madzibaba Richy and Mapuranga screamed like trapped animals while receiving a thorough hiding from Madamba.

Although Madamba could not be reached for comment, his wife confirmed the incident. She however, disputed that she was caught having sex with Madzibaba Richy.

“What you heard is untrue. When my husband came home, he just found Madzibaba Richy in the house conducting some prayers. How can we have sex in the presence of the children? He was just incensed why I had invited him without his consent,” said Mapuranga before she hung up her phone.

Will Learners, Teachers Cope With Tight School Calendar?

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has released a statement clarifying the issue of the 2021 school calendar after it had been speculated that the Association of Trust Schools’ (ATS) has its own 2021 school calendar. We present the statement in full below.

It has come to the attention of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education that there are claims that the Association of Trust Schools’ (ATS) has its own 2021 school calendar.

The Ministry takes this opportunity to advise its valued learners, parents, guardians, teachers and other stakeholders that in terms of the Education (Non-Government Schools) Regulations of 2005, Section 9 (1): “The Secretary shall prepare an annual school calendar to determine the days during each term when pupils shall be required to attend school for instruction,”

The regulations further state in Section 9 (3): “In special circumstances, the Secretary…may permit a school to open or close, or both, on dates other than those specified by the school calendar for any term.”

The Secretary has published the revised 2021 school calendar and has not allowed any school to deviate from it. All schools are, therefore, expected to adhere to the 2021 school calendar announced by Government.

For ease of reference, pursuant to a Cabinet decision announced on 2 March 2021, all schools will open on 15 March 2021 for examination classes and open on 22 March 2021 for non-examination classes. The first term will run until 4 June 2021 and the second term will begin on 28 June 2021 and close on 10 September 2021 while the third term will begin on 4 October 2021 through to 17 December 2021.

All well-meaning public and private schools, including ATS schools, should therefore abide by the Ministry’s 2021 school calendar. Any deviation from the above school calendar announced will attract censorship with the sternest penalty being deregistration of the deviant school.

Responsible authorities of schools are also advised to be guided by the set down Ministry procedures on the collection of school fees.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education maintains all authority in the governance of the education system in Zimbabwe as it remains committed to provide equitable, quality, inclusive, relevant and competence-driven Primary, Secondary and Non-formal education at all times.

The Ministry reinforces the wearing of face masks, physical distancing as well as handwashing to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in all school centres as preparations continue for the safe opening of schools and the accelerated implementation of t ching and learning activities.

Police Open Fire During Mthwakazi Party Demo

Police have fired shots in the air to disperse members of the radical Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) who staged a flash demo at the city’s central police station yesterday over the alleged harassment of their leader.
The rowdy secessionist group members accused suspected security agents of leading an onslaught on their leader, Mqondisi Moyo, whom they said had his home raided on Tuesday evening.

Moyo was, however, said not to have been present when the alleged home raid took place. This comes as Moyo and his party members were involved in a violent confrontation with a man they evicted from a Ntabazinduna farm early this week.

Yesterday, the MRP supporters caught the police off guard when they marched straight to the front of Bulawayo Central in a spontaneous demo — before barricading the road — and creating a traffic logjam in the process.

Some of the MRP members lit tyres in front the police station while others hurled stones at bemused police officers.

The police officers were visibly perplexed by the spontaneous demonstration and how quickly temperatures rose during the disturbances which lasted for close to 30 minutes.

Police finally reacted by firing warning shots to disperse the marauding crowd. However, speaking after the incident, Moyo claimed that one of his members had been shot.

“Khethani Ndlovu has been shot on the left leg with live bullets. So far 10 of our members have been arrested,” the MRP president said.

Acting Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Nomalanga Msebele, confirmed the arrests and said investigations into the protest were ongoing.

“We are aware of the case and I can confirm that there were arrests but investigations are still in progress,” Msebele told the Daily News.

Meanwhile, nine Mthwakazi Republic Party (MRP) members who were arrested yesterday have since been remanded in custody to 16 March 2021, where their Lawyers will make a bail application. They are at Grey Remand Prison pending bail application. Meanwhile the police arrested another Party member around Tredgold Court today afternoon.

The nine Cdes, Sibongile Banda, Tinos Nkomo, Livson Ncube, Maxwell Nkosi, Mongameli Mlotshwa, Welcome Moyo, Nkosilathi Ncube, Ackim Ndebele, and Busi Moyo are charged with public violence. This is despite the fact that none of all those arrested is inclined to public violence. Again, none of them was part of those that were outside when the police officers started firing bullets to people who were outside.

Police Officers Shot Down By Robbers

Two Gweru police officers are battling for life at a local private hospital after they were allegedly shot by a gang of six gunmen, while responding to a robbery at a businessman’s house.

Following the swift reaction by the police, the robbers only got away with US$230 and a Mazda MPV vehicle which they dumped a few metres from the house before disappearing into the night.

The robbers had allegedly taken the family of the businessman hostage and had started torturing his relative to coerce him to give them money they assumed he kept in his house.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident which happened on Tuesday evening in Gweru.

He said police were not releasing the name of the businessman and where he stays for security reasons as investigations are underway.

Asst Comm Nyathi said one robber allegedly scaled the pre-cast wall, forced entry into the house and demanded money from the businessman while pointing a gun at him.

He said when there was some resistance from the businessman five more robbers armed with pistols entered the house.

“Information we got is that some police officers reacted to a robbery that was taking place at the businessman’s house in Gweru. It is said one robber entered the house first and when he faced some resistance from the businessman, five more robbers got into the house and took the family hostage and tortured one of his relatives. During the robbery, the businessman managed to contact the police who responded swiftly,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

He said the police arrived at the house unexpectedly disturbing the robbers who started shooting at them. Asst Comm Nyathi said two police officers were shot before reinforcements were summoned to the scene.

“Sensing that police reinforcements were on their way, the robbers decided to flee and drove off in a Mazda MPV which they dumped just a few metres from the house before fleeing on foot into the dark of the night,” he said.

Asst Comm Nyathi said the robbers went away with US$230. He said the two police officers were taken to a local hospital where they are being treated for gunshot wounds.

“What I can tell these robbers is that the long arm of the law is catching up with them. We are going to arrest them because we have leads,” Asst Comm Nyathi said. -Chronicle

How Do You Tell the Difference Between Good and Bad Carbohydrates?
Everyone needs to eat carbohydrates, but that doesn’t mean you should fuel up with cookies, candy, and potato chips.

Carbohydrates are an essential part of a healthy diet, but it’s important to know they’re not all created equal. How do you tell the difference between “good carbs” and “bad carbs”? The answer is both simple — and complex.

Here’s everything you need to know about making smart carbohydrate choices.

A Carbohydrate Can Be a Simple Carb or a Complex Carb
Carbohydrates, often referred to as just “carbs,” are your body’s primary energy source, according to MedlinePlus. The three main types of carbohydrates are sugars, starches, and fiber. They’re called “simple” or “complex” on the basis of their chemical makeup and what your body does with them. Because many foods contain one or more types of carbohydrates, it can be tricky to understand what’s healthy for you and what’s not.

Simple carbohydrates are composed of easy-to-digest sugars, according to the American Heart Association (AHA). Some of these sugars are naturally occurring, such as those in fruits and in milk, while refined or processed sugars are usually added to foods like candies, baked goods, and soda. These simple carbs are quickly absorbed through the gut and can cause a spike in blood sugar levels, says Alicia Galvin, RD, the resident dietitian for Sovereign Laboratories in Dallas.

On nutrition labels, added sugars can go by several different names, including brown sugar, corn sweetener, corn syrup, fructose, glucose, maltose, malt syrup, sucrose, honey, agave nectar, molasses, and fruit juice concentrates, according to Harvard Health Publishing. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) now requires all nutrition labels to clearly identify the number of added sugars per serving in the product, directly beneath the total sugar count.

Then there are complex carbohydrates, which are found in whole grains, legumes, and vegetables, and contain longer chains of sugar molecules, according to MedlinePlus. “Complex carbs have an additional component — fiber, which is technically a type of carbohydrate, but it’s not digested and absorbed,” Galvin says. “That not only feeds the good gut bacteria, but it also allows for the absorption of the carbohydrate to be slower into the bloodstream, so it won’t spike glucose levels and insulin levels like a simple carbohydrate would.”

This in turn provides you with a more consistent amount of energy, says Sandra Meyerowitz, MPH, RD, a nutritionist and owner of Nutrition Works in Louisville, Kentucky.

The Details on Simple Carbohydrates
Foods that contain simple carbohydrates aren’t necessarily bad — it depends on the food. For instance, fruits and dairy products contain some simple carbs, but they are drastically different from other foods that contain simple carbs, like cookies and cakes. Processed sweets tend to contain refined sugar, too, and lack key nutrients your body needs to be healthy, according to the AHA.

“There are health benefits to eating fruit versus eating a piece of white bread,” Galvin says. “Fruit does contain fiber, and also antioxidants and polyphenols and other good nutritional benefits.”

Dairy also contains healthy nutrients, such as calcium, protein, and sometimes probiotics (if live active cultures are present), Galvin says. The protein component is key to helping dairy behave more like a complex carbohydrate. “Protein helps slow the absorption of carbohydrates into the bloodstream and helps keep appetite levels steady so you don’t have swings of insulin levels and blood glucose going up and down,” Galvin says.-

Medical Aid Societies Hike Charges

Zimbabweans seeking health care will have to fork out more for health insurance as medical aid societies have hiked contributions over the last few months for members paying in local currency.

Some of the schemes have increased contributions by more than 100 percent for both corporate and individuals.

Although some medical aid societies are yet to review member contributions, patients have had to fork out extra money to cover shortfalls.

A circular from Bon Vie medical aid scheme said contributions will be increased with effect from April 1, 2021.

“The cost of healthcare has continued to rise due to pressures from increasing medical inflation, added cost layers due to Covid-19 and exchange rate fluctuations.

“It is with this background that your medical aid scheme is instituting a marginal upward review of contribution for the Zim dollar packages,” reads the statement.

Bon Vie said the move was aimed at realigning their payouts and benefits with prevailing healthcare costs and demands, but also keeping in mind the affordability aspect.

For members contributing under corporate packages, the cheapest plan is now pegged at $413 from $200 for both adults and children. The Mukwa lite plan is now pegged at $2 339 for adults and $1 415 for children from $1 113 and $673 respectively.

First Mutual Health also increased member contributions in February this year citing the alignment of service fees with the prevailing auction rate.

“In response to this development, the fund has adopted the AFHOZ scientific tariffs that are indexed against the auction rate. Our Standard Plan prices are below sustainable levels and the review is necessary to maintain the value of benefits and reduce the incidents of shortfalls,” the scheme said in a statement early this year.

First Mutual Health said after the review of contributions and benefits, it was still in a transitory phase of aligning the contributions and benefits to the claims pattern of its membership.

This indicates that contributions are likely to increase again this year.

“We are cognisant of the financial impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on business operations and individual livelihoods.

“The rates have been structured in a manner which seeks to strike a balance between affordability to our members and ensuring the scheme continues to offer meaningful benefits in line with prevailing market conditions,” said First Mutual.

The scheme nearly doubled the cost for its packages with adult corporate packages like Ruby plan shooting to $4 350 from $3 038 and $2 250 for children from $1 414.

The Association of Healthcare Funders of Zimbabwe (AHFoZ) chief executive Ms Shylet Sanyanga said medical aid societies had not effected the applicable reviews to contributions when the country migrated from using the United States dollar hence the continued upward reviews.

“When the country migrated from the use of the US dollar to the Zimbabwe dollar, medical aid societies did not convert the USD contributions that were applicable at the time in line with the exchange rate.

“This would have resulted in sudden steep increases in member contributions. On the other hand, many healthcare service providers maintained their US dollar fees and they have been applying the parallel exchange rate for conversion,” she said.

She said this mismatch in conversion rates had resulted in the shortfalls that patients were being asked to pay at the point of care.

“Medical aid societies are adjusting contributions to try and catch -up with healthcare service provider rates, in order to narrow or eliminate the shortfall gap. Most medical aid contribution rates are lower than they were during the US dollar era, whereas healthcare fees have been maintained at their previous US dollar levels,” Ms Sanyanga said.- The Herald

Pantless Zodwa Wabantu Ignores Anne Nhira’s Death

By James Gwati- Pantless South African socialite, Zodwa Wabantu who was blocked from coming for public performance in Zimbabwe by the late former Studio 263 Actress, Anne Nhira has refused to comment about the death of her rival.

Nhira died in South Africa this week from injuries she sustained from an attack by robbers.

In August 2017 Nhira found herself at loggerheads with Zodwa Wabantu when she single-handedly lobbied the government of Zimbabwe to block her from performing at the Harare International Carnival.

Nhira then argued that Zodwa was overhyped and didn’t deserve the attention she was getting.

“We have one of the highest unemployment rates and whatever Zodwa, a SA provocateur who is not even one of the top socialites in SA is [sic] getting paid could have gone to another young Zimbabwean woman who has worked tirelessly and does so decently, or a dancer if the intention was that particular?” she said then.

In support of Nhira, the late former President Robert Mugabe said, “I’m sorry we disappointed many men. You just come without covering your decency. What do you want? Men, to see you? We don’t want such.”

TshisaLIVE said when they called her for a comment about Nhira’s death, Zodwa declined to say even a single word.

National Heroine Status For Anne Nhira?

By James Gwati-Fans of the late former Studio 263, actress Anne Nhira said the government should declare her a national heroine and bury her at the national shrine for successfully influencing the ban of the controversial South African socialite, Zodwa Wabantu, from publicly performing in Zimbabwe.

Nhira in September 2017, successfully applied to the government so they bar South African socialite Zodwa Wabantu from taking part in the 10-day Harare International Carnival.

Nhira succumbed to severe injuries after she was mugged in South Africa.

She was 38.

Teachers Challenge Soldiers And CIO Salaries

By James Gwati- The Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe has challenged the government to justify high salaries and allowances the authorities are giving to soldiers and members of the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) which are way above what teachers are earning.

PTU president Takavafira Zhou, said teachers’ salaries ranged from $14 000 to $19 000, while soldiers, police and Central Intelligence Organisation officers reportedly earned well above $30 000.

“Government must restore the purchasing power parity of teachers’ salaries to pre-October 2018 levels of US$520 to US$550,” he said.

Teachers have since advised the government that they were not going to report for duty next week if their salaries were not reviewed.

Mnangagwa Threatens To Fire Striking Teachers

By James Gwati- The government said it is going to fire teachers who will engage in the planned next week strike.

Teachers this week said they were not to report for duty when schools open if the government does not review their salaries.

Schools are re-opening next week.

In a statement, Thursday, the Public Service Commission (PSC) said any civil servant who engages in the planned job action risks losing his or her job.

Chinese Businessman Raped Maid

Chinese businessman

A Chinese businessman was on Wednesday dragged to court charged for rape after he reportedly raped his 17-year-old maid.

The suspect, Li Qiang, 61, was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Judith Taruvinga.

Allegations are that sometime in September last year at around 7am, the complainant was cleaning Qiang’s bedroom when he entered and locked the door.

While in the room, he allegedly pushed her onto the bed and told her that he wanted to have sexual intercourse with her.

The court heard that she refused and he then promised to go with her to China before he forcibly removed her clothes and raped her without protection

The court heard that after the incident, he asked the complainant to stay at his residence.

One night she refused to open the door and he threatened to fire her from work. It is further alleged that he continued to rape her and the matter came to light when she visited her grandmother and narrated her ordeal.

Qiang was arrested by immigration police officers as he was leaving court. -H Metro

Prince Gerald Mukumba admitted to duping Mr Munyaradzi Makore of $4 500 and US$125 he paid him towards hiring the car to travel to Malawi.

Mukumba told Harare magistrate Mr Sheunesu Matova that he failed to secure the car for Mr Makore because of the Covid-19 national lockdown.

Vendors Badly Exposed To COVID-19

While the pandemic is ravaging all corners of the country, Zimbabweans who have been confined to perennial vending, have no choice but to peservere and continue selling their items to fend for their families.

I visited Chikanga Sports Field Market in Mutare and I wasn’t prepared for what I saw: the risk of the pandemic spreading beyond control as vendors mingle in open-air trading with no masks, social distancing or water provisions for hand-washing.

The vendors expressed concerns at the cost involved in masking.

The country needs a co-ordinated effort with resources being channelled towards eliminating this disease.

Zimbabwe has enough resources to look after its citizens. We can do better as a country.

Muchinguri Ordered To Pay Over 1 Aug Shootings | FULL TEXT.

Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri

CASE ALERT MUCHINGURI-KASHIRI ORDERED TO PAY FORUM’S WASTED COSTS ON 1 AUGUST SHOOTING CASE
Defence and War Veterans Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri was on 11 March 2021 ordered to pay wasted costs for the lawyers representing some of the 1 August 2018 shooting victims.

Harare High Court, Justice David Mangota, issued the order in three matters involving Dzikamai Chivhanga, Fabion Majuru and Andy Manyeruke.

The three victims are lucky to be alive after they were shot in Harare’s CBD when soldiers opened fire on members of the public as they attempted to disperse protesters who were demonstrating against a delay in releasing of election results. The trio is seeking damages for shock, pain and suffering caused by the unlawful actions of the soldiers.

Through her lawyer, Mrs Gloria Dzitiro of Mutumbwa Mugabe and Partner Legal Practitioners, the Defence Minister had requested that the three matters which they had erroneously set down be removed from the court roll.

Advocate Wilbert Mandinde who appeared with Mr Darlington Marange from the Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum argued that the error in prematurely setting the matters down deserved to be censured with an order of costs. Justice Mangota agreed and ordered the Minister to pay the wasted costs. The matter will be re-enrolled on the court roll once all pleadings are filed.

The government has claimed that it has fully complied with the Motlanthe Commission recommendations. However, one of the three, Manyeruke, has since taken President Mnangagwa to court seeking an order that the President fully complies with the recommendations as has been claimed by justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Permanent Secretary Virginia Mabhiza.

Mukuru Launches New Product Line

Mukuru’s strength in the remittance and cross-border payments space has led to the launch of a new product line – Enterprise Payments.

Mukuru is partnering with some of the world’s leading humanitarian aid organisations, using its reach and capabilities to deliver a seamless process that guarantees on-time payments for some of the world’s most vulnerable recipients of humanitarian aid.

Move to aid cash payments

The new product line is the result of a trifecta of change in the humanitarian and money transfer sectors.

1.     An upswing in the volume of aid distributed across the globe that is putting the humanitarian system under enormous strain. (An estimated one billion people in countries affected by long-term humanitarian crises need around $30 billion in aid each year to survive.)

2.     Aid organisations are urgently looking for new ways to protect the lives and dignity of affected individuals while ensuring aid is spent efficiently. The result is a switch where possible from supporting crisis-affected people with physical commodities, to cash payments.

3.     Changes in technology and access to financial services are presenting new ways for humanitarian support to reach people in need, whether as an envelope of cash, a money card, or electronic money transfer to a mobile phone.

Mukuru—Aid Agency Synergy

Today, the bulk of humanitarian work is not a response to sudden disaster. Countries caught up in protracted crises of five years or more, have gone from 13 to 31 in the last 15 years. In these circumstances, aid in cash that allows recipients to buy food, pay rent and buy what they need locally, is far more effective at helping people survive and rebuild their lives than consignments of food, water, shelter and clothes. An increasing number of agencies are now building cash payments into their emergency response planning.

In 2020, a number of United Nations (UN) agencies and organisations including World Food Programme, Unicef, Finmark Trust and Action Contre La Faim began to work with Mukuru – an Africa-based Fintech company that for almost two decades has enabled migrant workers to send money home to their families via a formal remittance system that uses dynamic technology and an extensive Africa footprint to deliver safe and easy-to-use products and services.

Traditionally, migrant workers were forced to trust the goodwill of strangers, paying middle men and taxi drivers to get desperately-needed money home to their families. Mukuru presents an alternative, safer way that enables a sender to place and pay for a cash remittance order which their recipient can access at a Mukuru branch, retail partner, or payout booth in peri-urban and rural areas.

The common thread of supporting the financial wellbeing of some of the world’s most vulnerable people created a natural synergy between the money transfer company and partner humanitarian aid organisations.

Mike Scott, Mukuru Group Head of Commercial, says, “On the one hand, Mukuru is constantly innovating to stay ahead of real-time social, regulatory and legislative changes in more than twenty recipient countries.

This means building flexibility and responsiveness into every business process. On the other hand, end-to-end accountability and full auditability is paramount to the long-term success of the products and services we create for our customers, whether in the business-to-customer or business-to-business space.”

Maximising humanitarian impact with a system of cash transfers

The expansion into Enterprise Payments is a natural progression for Mukuru. They are licenced across multiple territories, have vast experience in instant cash availability (even in poor cash liquidity environments), and are passionate about enabling the journey towards digitisation for their customers.

Scott says, “Our cash transfer systems offer our aid partners convenient online disbursement of cash aid, with built-in operational efficiencies, as well as security and risk prevention; this includes fraud detection, anti-money laundering and authentication tools.

Our ability to provide a fully-auditable payments infrastructure that allows organisations to deliver large numbers of cash payments quickly and reliably to vulnerable people in under-served communities is what caught the eye of our humanitarian aid organisation partners.”

Ariane Luff, Zimbabwe Country Manager for Action Contre La Faim (Action Against Hunger), says, “It was Mukuru’s practical approach to money transfers and their scalability that made them an attractive business partner.

“They are able to leverage their independent cash supply chain to ensure regular payouts and have proven to be highly responsive to the unique issues faced by aid agencies. Having easy access to senior managers is crucial for aid organisations that need quick answers to changing situations, and Mukuru has been willing to listen and learn, whether this is making quick adjustments to longer queues by bringing in additional payout booths, or extended payout hours for aid recipients.”

Knox Mtizwa Inspires Golden Arrows To Victory

Zimbabwe international Knox Mutizwa was among the scorers as Golden Arrows beat TTM 2-1 in a DStv Premiership match played today.

The former Highlanders striker, who seems to have rediscovered his scoring touch after a slow start to the current season, thrust Abafana Bes’thende ahead in the 25th minute when fellow countryman Washington Arubi, in goal for TTM fumbled the ball and Mutizwa headed home.

His goal would be the difference between the two sides at the half time interval.

TTM restored parity three minutes after the restart through Bulelani Ndengane but Siboniso Nconco’s late penalty proved decisive in Arrows’ favor.

Mutizwa’s Warriors teammate Divine Lunga also played for the entire 90 mins for the Durban-based side.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Cavani Desperate To Leave Manchester United

Edinson Cavani’s father, Luis, has claimed that the player is no longer happy with staying in Europe and could leave Manchester United at the end of the season.

Cavani’s contract is set to expire in June and there is a big chance the 34-year Uruguayan will join Argentinian club Boca Juniors, according to the father.

“There’s a 60 per cent chance of Edinson coming to South America. We’re very excited,” Luis told Argentinian broadcaster TYC Sports.

“We’ve always gone to visit him and he’s played in some beautiful cities where he’s been made to feel very welcome. He’s really endeared himself to everyone and has made friendships.

“I’d like him to join a team that has a chance of winning something. Here in Uruguay there’s no chance of that happening.

“We’ve spoken to Edinson and he’s always leant towards Boca Juniors because he’s had so many conversations with (manager Juan Roman) Riquelme about it.”

Luis also claimed that Cavani’s three-match ban earlier this season contributed to the decision to leave Manchester. The striker was hit with the sanction for allegedly using a racially offensive term on social media.

And Cavani senior insists his son is not racist and that they use the term all the time.

“He’s set on coming back because there are things that sometimes annoy you as a human, such as what happened to him, with the three-game suspension over nonsense.

“We always use that word over here. We aren’t racist. That did have a bearing on the decision,” he added.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Thousands of Zim Villagers Facing Eviction Planned Displacements to Make Way for Commercial Venture

(Johannesburg ) – The Zimbabwe government is evicting thousands of people from an indigenous minority group from their communal land, Human Rights Watch said today. The order affects more than 13,000 people of the Shangani minority.

On February 26, 2021, the Local Government, Urban and Rural development Minister, July Moyo, published a legal notice ordering thousands of people occupying approximately 12,940 hectares of Chilonga communal land in Chiredzi, southeastern Zimbabwe, to leave immediately unless they acquire fresh rights of use or occupation to that land. The legal notice, Statutory Instrument 50 of 2021, said the land was being set aside for lucerne grass production – farming grass for stockfeed.

“The Zimbabwean government should stop these evictions that ignore the rights of indigenous communities and would leave thousands of people destitute and vulnerable – particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Dewa Mavhinga, Southern Africa director at Human Rights Watch. “The government should ensure that any eviction process is carried out only when it is strictly necessary, and follows due process, adequate prior consultation with those affected, adequate compensation, and provision of alternative land.”

On March 4, the Information Ministry Permanent Secretary, Nick Mangwana, shared a video message on Twitter in which the parliament member for the Chiredzi West constituency, Farai Musikavanhu, claimed that the government had consulted the Shangani people of Chilonga and that they supported the lucerne grass production project. However, Human Rights Watch established that Musikavanhu is not the parliament member for the Chilonga area, and several Chilonga leaders told Human Rights Watch they are opposed to eviction and to the grass farming project by a private company.

On March 4, a Chilonga community leader told Human Rights Watch that the community rejected the lucerne farming plans because they were announced without the community’s consent. He also said that the government did not provide reasonable notice for relocation, plans to pay compensation, and provision of alternative land with infrastructure like schools, clinics, hospitals, and roads.

Another community leader told Human Rights Watch that, “We refuse to be forced to leave our homes without any reasonable notice, since the law says we must leave immediately, and without any compensation.”

Another said: “This is not the first forced eviction for the Shangani people in Chilonga community. In the 1960s the colonial government displaced us to Chiredzi from our ancestral lands to pave way for Gonarezhou National Park.”

Zimbabwe’s Communal Land Act, section 10, authorizes the local government minister to set aside communal land for any purpose, after consultation with the local Rural District Council. The law permits the minister to order evictions, under certain limited circumstances, including with reasonable notice and compliance with the country’s constitution. Section 74 of the Zimbabwe constitution prohibits eviction in the absence of a court order issued after considering all the relevant circumstances.

A staff member of a local civil society group working with the Chilonga community, the Masvingo Centre for Research Advocacy and Development (MACRAD Trust), told Human Rights Watch that on April 30, 2020, Minister Moyo met with traditional chiefs, local authorities, the headman of the community, and a few other delegates, to inform the local leadership of the government plan to convert the Chilonga communal area land into lucerne producing farms. The Chilonga community leaders, however, reject the eviction notice, which will affect 678 villages comprising 2,258 households with 13,840 people.

The MACRAD Trust and members of the Chilonga community, through their lawyers, the Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association (ZELA), on March 5 filed two urgent High Court motions to have the legal notice declared unconstitutional and invalid. The filing says that the order infringes on the right to not be subjected to arbitrary eviction, the right to fair administrative justice, and the right to dignity. The cases are pending.

Forced displacement without compensation, or forced evictions, violate international human rights law. The African Union Convention for the Protection and Assistance of Internally Displaced Persons in Africa, which Zimbabwe ratified, requires in Article 3(1)(a) that states parties “refrain from, prohibit and prevent arbitrary displacement of populations.”

The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights has stated that communities’ traditional and collective ownership of land should be recognized and protected under the right to property. This includes protecting communities from forced evictions.

In General Comment 7, the UN Committee on Economic, Cultural, and Social Rights defines forced evictions as “the permanent or temporary removal against their will of individuals, families and/or communities from the homes and/or land which they occupy, without the provision of, and access to, appropriate forms of legal or other protection.”

The committee said that in keeping with their obligations under Article 11.1 of the International Covenant on Economic Social and Cultural Rights, and Article 17.1 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, governments should ensure that “prior to any evictions, particularly those involving large groups, all feasible alternatives are explored in consultation with affected people, with a view to avoiding, or at least minimizing, the use of force.” Governments should also ensure the rights of victims to adequate compensation for any property affected.

“The Mnangagwa government should do the right thing and treat the people of Chilonga with the respect and dignity they deserve by respecting their land and property rights and peacefully engaging with them on its plans,” Mavhinga said. “Forcibly evicting thousands of people amid a pandemic, without reasonable notice, compensation, and alternative land would be a wanton disregard of the country’s legal obligations.”

Is This Tapiwa Makore’s Skull?

Harare Central Police station

The Zimbabwe Republic Police has confidently announced DNA test results for an old skull which the police says belongs to the late 7 year old Tapiwa Makore.

PAUL-NYATHI

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi yesterday confirmed the latest DNA test results saying:

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police confirms that communication has been made with the late Tapiwa Makore’s family in connection with the DNA results which were conducted by AIBST DNA Testing Centre and National University of Science and Technology.

“The DNA results showed that the jaw, tooth and limb were a direct match to the torso. All other details concerning the case will be revealed once trial proceedings are in motion,” he added.

DNA tests are said to have matched the jaw, tooth and limb recently recovered in searches by investigating police officers to the seven-year-old Murehwa boy Tapiwa Makore (Jnr) murdered in September last year for ritual purposes but the family is rejecting the results and wants a second test.

Family lawyer Ms Tabitha Chikeya, was quoted by the state broadcaster, ZBC, yesterday that it was impossible for the head to belong to Makore given it was found about three days after his death but did not look new.

She called for further DNA tests. Tapiwa’s mother, Ms Linda Munyori, also told The Herald last night that the family disagreed with the DNA results.

“It is true that we do not agree with the results. The head didn’t have a scalp and looked a bit old, and resembling that of a 12-year-old or 13-year-old child. Our child was seven years old.

Two doctors concurred that it was not our son’s head,” she said.

Tapiwa went missing on September 17 while looking after his parents’ garden. His torso was found the following morning, with some parts, including the head missing.

Six suspects, including relatives, have since been arrested while others were questioned in connection with the kidnapping and murder.

The killers and their accomplices abducted the boy, shepherded him to a mountain and kept him for the whole day before murdering him and then chopping off his head, arms and legs at night.

The latest updates on police investigations show that police now believe an 11-year-old boy from Nyamutumbu Village was paid US$5 to lure Tapiwa Makore (Jnr) from the garden to his uncle’s homestead. The uncle, Tapiwa Makore (Snr), allegedly gave the boy $5 plus a T-shirt for the crucial role he played in the murder before warning him against disclosing the matter to other villagers. However, the boy handed over the money to his mother who kept the secret until everything came out during the investigation.

The uncle together with his herdsman Tafadzwa Shamba (40), the first person arrested, are in remand prison pending the murder trial. Police alleged the boy was sent by both Makore (Snr) and Shamba.

It is alleged that the boy later revealed the matter to his mother who told him not to disclose the matter. The mother is said to have used the money to buy chicken.

In November last year, another Makore brother, Thanks Makore (56) was also arrested in connection with the ritual murder, with allegations that he was given the boy’s head and arms. Thanks Makore of Damofalls was arrested in Harare and has since appeared before a Mutoko magistrate.

Two more women were picked up for questioning by police after they allegedly bought meat from Tafadzwa Shamba, the herdsman. The arrests came after reports that the meat bought by the two women might have been human flesh from the late boy’s thigh, which was sold to them at their homestead where they sell opaque beer and kachasu.

Shamba allegedly exchanged the meat for six containers of opaque beer with one of the women, Joina Tangirire, who sells beer at her homestead. The meat was consumed by her whole family. Following a tip-off, police picked up Tangirire and a relative, Enia Tangirire, who are alleged to have admitted that they exchanged beer for the meat.

Police arrested another woman, Moud Hunidzarira (42), in Budiriro following a tip-off by the public and she has appeared before a Murehwa magistrate and been remanded in custody. It is alleged that when the murder occurred, Hunidzarira was in Murehwa and a few days later, she was seen by some neighbours in Harare cleaning an item that had blood believed to be that of the late Tapiwa Makore.-state media

“It is hereby declared that the first respondent does not have any rights to carry out mining activities at the stripe B and said registration notices.

Paari Mining Syndicate, through its lawyer Passmore Nyakureba of Maunga, Maanda and Associates, said it would appeal the ruling.

“Our position is very clear. We have seen the interdict, and we have since been instructed to appoint a lawyer in Harare to challenge it,” Nyakureba said.

The Unstoppable Abigail Kawonza: Paving the Way for Successful Women In Rugby

Abigail Kawonza

Just in time for International Women’s month, Abigail Kawonza continues to push boundaries and take Rugby Africa to new heights, reminding us that even if one-woman scores, we all win
CAPE TOWN, South Africa, March 11, 2021/ — The inclusion and integration of women in sports has been a contentious topic over the years. As the industry continues to open space for women all around the world, International Women’s month is a good time to not only commemorate pioneers such as Abigail Kawonza, who have pushed boundaries and opened doors for other women – but to also celebrate the work done to date. Having been involved in rugby for over two decades – Abigail Kawonza has witnessed the industry’s many wins and losses. However, in her role as one of Rugby Africa (www.RugbyAfrique.com)’s Unstoppables, she has also seen and celebrated many developments, especially in a sport that was largely considered for men. Being part of the Unstoppables, a campaign dedicated to fast-tracking the development of women’s rugby in Africa, Kawonza pridefully notes that one of the major developments in her time is “the widespread acceptance of women taking part in rugby tournaments which has helped to project the sport onto higher platforms and expand its popularity. We have seen a change from just articles to women’s rugby being accepted in Olympics and Commonwealth Games.”

Coralie van den Berg, General Manager of World Rugby African Association, Rugby Africa, testifies to this, explaining that increasingly “more tournaments including women’s categories are being developed. When unions now launch a new tournament, they tend to always include a women’s category which is a very positive development.”

Kawonza notes that some of the major improvements she has also seen on a global scale is “the increase in funding covering the development of the game in both sevens and the fifteens format as well as younger and stronger players emerging.” As the industry increasingly makes provision for women, Kawonza also notes an increase in adequate skill levels to showcase great games at any level due to properly accredited coaches taking time to coach women. “Let’s not forget qualified female technical staff taking the reins” she adds. Kawonza’s passion for sports and her journey as an Unstoppable has also opened bigger opportunities for her, allowing her to make even wider strides towards opening the industry for other talented women rooting on the other side of the fence.

One of the key achievements being her role as the President of the Zimbabwe Rugby Referees Association which has opened opportunities to better guide younger referees towards maintaining best practice. Beyond the amazing strides Kawonza has made in her career, her tenure as an Unstoppable has further expanded her impact beyond Zimbabwe’s grounds. “I appreciate that my influence has gone beyond the Zimbabwean borders as I also work closely with regional and international union boards”, says Kawonza. “The recognition as an Unstoppable has opened doors for more women in Zimbabwe, and I intend to ride the wave for as long as I can. Taking young match officials and players with me” she adds.

In her Scrumqueens Q&A, Maha Zaoui shares the same sentiment as Kawonza, adding that “the creation of the Women’s Rugby Advisory Committee at Rugby Afrique and its 4 sub-committees speaks to the global vision of women’s rugby in Africa. We are no longer talking about priorities but about a global project that will affect all related sectors in women’s rugby.”

Kawonza’s key focus has been to bridge the gap between talent search and development and foster talent that can soar to professional rugby heights. About talent, Rugby Africa Referee Manager, Mudiwa Mundawarara shares that “over the years, the support of the South African Rugby Union and French Rugby Federation has been tremendous, and I am pleased that it will continue with greater emphasis on talent identification, on training and coaching of referees from the rest of the continent.

This will eventually lead to greater opportunities for them through a selection process drawn from the strengthened development cohorts.” Beyond opening doors for young women, Kawonza’s role as an Unstoppable also enabled her to mentor upcoming players to be smart about their careers beyond the field. “I have a different view as an “older” if not the oldest Unstoppable – I encourage young women to pursue their education to the fullest because sport goes beyond what you do on the field, it’s about you being articulate and able to represent yourself as a brand in the world out there. This will help you go beyond the field when you reach your “shelf-life” or even if playing is not your thing but still have that passion for rugby” says Kawonza.

Kawonza’s journey as a pioneer is far from over, as a believer in the power of mentorship Kawonza adds that “everyone needs a hero and my vision is to build a mentorship program for women who have been successful in the field (coaching, match officiating, administration) where they too can be able to mentor the young women, on and off the field of play.”

Traditional Healers Mourn Underfunding Towards Research, Manufacture Of Traditional Medicines

By A Correspondent- Traditional medicine practitioners on Tuesday bemoaned underfunding towards research and the manufacture of traditional medicines, which has resulted in lack of recognition of their practice in the health sector.

Health ministry director Onias Ndoro said this during a meeting with the Ruth Labode-chaired Health and Child Care and Parliamentary Portfolio Committee where he told MPs that government had failed to release the required funds for research and other necessities in the manufacture of traditional medicines.

The meeting was meant to discuss the development and promotion of traditional and complementary medicines in Zimbabwe.

He said government should consider allocating 2,5% of the Health ministry budget vote to the traditional medical sector.

“Traditional medicine is not widely recognised in the country due to a number of challenges which include lack of funding and lack of standards for indigenous medicinal products. The traditional medicine sector has been receiving way below the requested funds from government. In 2020 for instance, the sector requested $350 000, but only received less than $30 000,” Ndoro said.

“There is also a need to strengthen the traditional medical council which spearheads manufacturing of traditional medicines. The council has not been meeting over the past five years, which derails progress in the sector.”

Ndoro said there was a lot of secrecy among the traditional practitioners who did not want to disclose important herbs or to pass on their knowledge to others, which hindered standardisation of the traditional medical practice.

He also urged government to include the traditional medicine practice in the education curriculum and to bring together traditional and conventional medicine practitioners to engage in research.

Traditional Medical Practitioners Council (TMPC) registrar Joice Guhwa said the COVID-19 pandemic had highlighted the importance of traditional herbs which had been downplayed due to the rise of conventional medicine.

Guhwa said many people resorted to traditional concoctions to cure the respiratory disease.

“The challenges experienced in the traditional medical sector date back to colonialism where local medicines were underutilised due to the rise of the conventional drugs. The Witchcraft Act of the 1960s was also promulgated to do away with traditional medicine; hence since then, the practice has been sidelined and was regarded as dirty and backward.-Newsday

Mass Exodus Haunts Byo City Council Clinics

BULAWAYO City Council (BCC) clinics are being manned by 50% of the staff amid reports that the other half had left for greener pastures.

This came at a time when the local authority was battling service delivery challenges and failure to pay its workers on time.

City fathers have blamed the COVID-19 pandemic for financially impacting on its operations as ratepayers did not settle their bills for the better part of 2020 due to the lockdown.

In a virtual discussion held on Monday titled: “The State of Health Institutions in Bulawayo: A Provincial Perspective,” BCC health services director Edwin Sibanda painted a gloomy picture of staffing levels.

“We have about 19 clinics dotted around the City of Bulawayo and they are running with almost forty-five to fifty-five staffing levels,” Sibanda said.

“The city has been struggling with constant tendering in of resignation letters. Since January we have been receiving not less than four resignations a month. In terms of admission levels we are fine, but the greatest constraint is the fact that our clinics do not have enough staff.”

Welcome Mlilo, the acting provincial medical director for Bulawayo said: “The shortage of health facilities is a trend right across the country, not only limited to Bulawayo. We have seen an alarming number of resignations.”

According to the local authority, only 16% of Bulawayo ratepayers fully paid their bills in 2020 while 22% did not make any payments at all, resulting in council being owed nearly $663 million by ratepayers.

Government departments also owe council several millions of dollars, deepening the council’s financial woes.

Council’s woes are likely to be worsened by the recently increased tariffs, a development that is likely to result in a high number of defaulters.

BCC increased its rates by 372% after its supplementary budget was recently approved by government.

The local authority was forced to seek a supplementary budget after the first wave of COVID-19 led to unbudgeted expenses.

As if that is not enough, government has also approved the council’s 2021 budget which will see rates and service charges going up by a further 10%.-newsday

Mandatory Jail Sentence For Rapists On The Cards

By A Correspondent- Government is formulating laws that will provide for mandatory jail sentences for rapists in response to a sharp increase in sexual violations, Parliament heard last week.

This is not the first time that authorities have revealed plans to punish offenders with a mandatory jail sentence as a deterrent against the vice. In 2017, government proposed a mandatory 60-year jail term for those who rape children and 40 years for criminals convicted of raping or sodomising people with disabilities.

Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises minister, Sithembiso Nyoni revealed in Parliament last Thursday that government was finalising laws providing for mandatory jail sentences for rape.

Nyoni said government was concerned about statistics of sexual offences, adding that long mandatory jail terms would be the only deterrent measure against the crime.

She said statistics provided by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) victim friendly unit showed that there were 1 222 cases of rape in the third quarter of 2020 and 1 274 in the last quarter countrywide.

“The Bills (Sexual Harassment Bill and the Gender Equality Bill) are expected to criminalise the offence of sexual harassment and provide frameworks for gender equality,” Nyoni said in a ministerial statement on sexual crimes and gender-based violence (GBV).

The next one is the mandatory sentence for rape.

The Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs administers the Criminal Code Reform Act and it is spearheading the amendment of the Act to include mandatory sentencing for sexual offences.

“The drafting process has begun. However, the drafters have identified that most relevant stakeholders on the proposed law were not consulted, hence there was need for further consultations.”

The United Nations says GBV is the most pervasive yet least visible human rights violation in the world.

It includes physical, sexual and mental violations with experts stating that one in three women will experience such violations in their lifetime.-newsday

Public Servants Plot Full Blown Strike Over Eroded Salaries

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Confederation of Public Sector Trade Unions (ZCPSTU), a civil servants’ group, has petitioned government over the erosion of government workers’ salaries and gave notice of a nationwide full-blown strike next week if the salary issue was not resolved within seven days.

In its petition gleaned by NewsDay dated March 9, 2021 addressed to Public Service minister Paul Mavima, ZCPSTU president Cecilia Alexander said civil servants’ salaries had been severely eroded by inflation and needed to be reviewed.

“Government is wilfully disregarding the NJNC (National Joint Negotiation Council) resolution of December 2020 which stated that the NJNC would meet early January 2020 to craft a roadmap towards the restoration of the value of wages to the pre-October 2018 level,” the petition read in part.

“The ZCPSTU/Apex Council will within seven days from the date of this letter, notify the employer of an impending civil servicewide job action, and that such notification will be served to you in accordance with the laws of the land and in fulfilment of the desires of our members.”

Teachers’ unions also threatened that their members would not report for duty when schools open next week until government paid them salaries ranging from US$520 to US$550, or the equivalent in local currency.

They also expressed disgruntlement over being paid salaries that are way below those paid to the security forces.

Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe president Takavafira Zhou yesterday said teachers’ salaries ranged from $14 000 to $19 000, while soldiers, police and Central Intelligence Organisation officers reportedly earned well above $30 000.

“Government must restore the purchasing power parity of teachers’ salaries to pre-October 2018 levels of US$520 to US$550,”Zhou said in a statement.

Mavima recently told Parliament that government had no capacity to pay foreign currency-denominated salaries.

During the 2021 Parliament of Zimbabwe post-budget consultations, Finance minister Mthuli Ncube claimed that civil servants were the highest paid employees in the country.

Zimbabwe’s breadbasket for a family of six is now pegged at $25 000, according to recent data from the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency, amid reports that most families were surviving on less than a dollar a day.-Newsday

Doctors Wary Over Low Uptake of COVID-19 Vaccine

By A Correspondent| Local doctors have questioned the government’s approach in educating citizens on the importance of the COVID-19 vaccination saying the low numbers being recorded daily were worrying considering that other countries were doing well in having their people inoculated.

Zimbabwe received 200 000 doses of the Sinopharm vaccine from China.

The sinopharm vaccine remains the only option available in the country right now with AstraZeneca and another batch from India and Russia still to arrive in the country.

“[Only] 243 new vaccinations reported yesterday [Tuesday]. That’s an average of 24 people being vaccinated per day per each province,” said Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights (ZADHR) treasurer-general Norman Matara.

“35,000 vaccinated in 3 weeks. The uptake is extremely low and worrying. Rwanda has vaccinated 200,000 people in four days. Where are we getting it wrong?”

Zimbabwe rolled out its immunisation programme some three weeks ago after receiving a donation of 200,000 Sinopharm vaccine doses from China.

The government, which aims to vaccinate 10 million people to achieve herd immunity, is awaiting more doses from the Chinese plus an allocation of the AstraZeneca vaccine under the global COVAX scheme.

But Matara worried the sluggish pace of vaccination and the apparent failure by government to galvanize a positive response leaves the country vulnerable to the respiratory disease that has since killed 1,489 Zimbabweans and infected 36,341 others.

“Vaccines are meant to be given to those who have not yet acquired the disease. That we had fewer cases compared to other countries should be a reason for vaccination not against,” Matara reasoned.

“With limited access to vaccine supply, it would be unwise to give the vaccines to low-risk individuals and not vaccinate those at more risk. I think we still need to devise ways to increase uptake amongst the vulnerable.”

A study by the Zimbabwe College of Public Health Physicians (ZCPHP) found that 49 percent of people “don’t trust the government will provide a safe and effective vaccine,” Matara said, shedding light on why most people are holding off.
