Chidzambwa Bemoans Deterioration Of Local Football Quality…

Former Dynamos and Warriors coach Sunday ‘Mhofu’ Chidzambwa believes the Zimbabwean Premier Soccer League has lost its weight on the continent and is no longer one of the best.

Mhofu’s sentiments followed after FC Platinum failed to reach the group stages of Champions League after defeat to Simba SC of Tanzania in the first round.

The Platinum Boys and other teams who have represented the country the tournament in recent years have failed to replicate Dynamos’ achievement of reaching the finals in 1998.

The league itself has also struggled to attract foreign players like what was happening before the turn of the new millennium.

Speaking to the Sunday Mail, Mhofu said: “In my opinion, I feel our clubs are struggling simply because our league is not as strong as it used to be.

“Unlike in the past when the local league attracted players from outside the country, the latest trends in player movement in search of greener pastures outside the country’s borders has also had a negative impact on club competitiveness in the African Safari.

The retired coach also explained that the departure of top talent in the country to South Africa, Zambia and Tanzania has further weakened the league.

“Our league used to be strong and competitive as the club executives and technical teams recruited the best players both locally and beyond our borders to build strong teams. You would see that only a few players were playing outside the country and as such it makes your league competitive, hence the club became competitive in the continental competitions.

“Now most of our good players are being offered opportunities outside the country and as a result, it is weakening our teams,” added Chidzambwa.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

MDC Alliance Weekly Health Alert.

6th Edition

28 February 2022.

Welcome to yet another edition of the Weekly Health Alerts produced by MDC Alliance Health portfolio in conjunction with the Communications department.

This week we are looking at the lockdown and the way forward for Zimbabwe.

Covid-19 Lockdown-Whither to Zimbabwe?

WE have been on level 4 lockdown in this second covid-19 wave since January the 5th, initially for four weeks, but extended twice by two weeks at a time, to March 2021. With the strict lockdown comes many socio-economic challenges, which the government has up until now been unable to mitigate. Business is at a standstill, the cost of doing business has skyrocketed, especially with the current requirement that to reopen your small business you need covid-19 certificates for your workforce, at own expense.

The restrictions on informal traders has plunged many families into abject poverty and outright starvation in some cases, with no bailout from government.

We cannot be in perpetual lockdown, especially in a country where there are no social safety nets, but the decision to lift the lockdown must be based on data and science, not on political considerations.

Weaponisation of the lockdown is a tragedy, and many in Zimbabwe feel the lockdown is being used as a political weapon.

As President Chamisa said before, the government should be working with local authorities and health care departments to come out with a more scientific targeted approach based on numbers and hotspots.

Constant surveillance through testing and isolation throughout the country is necessary. Let’s remember the WHO’s admonition: “You can’t replace the lockdown with nothing”. Measures must be put in place to ensure a smooth transition to normalcy with adequate control measures. We need a well-informed and committed population, with persistent long-term behavior change as part of our new normal. Covid-19 safe behaviours must be observed at all times.

Vaccines bring with them a new hope of permanent relief, but only if we get it right, and we establish and maintain the highest levels of transparency regarding the vaccine attributes of efficacy, safety & cost, and procurement decisions. Arrogance on the part of government will derail the program. Every citizen has a right to be heard, and all concerns must be addressed with empathy, knowing that we are all born equal under the law of Zimbabwe, and in the eyes of God Almighty. Dissemination of correct information is key to the acceptance of any particular vaccine by the people, in our case the Sinopharm vaccine, at least for now. The current low uptake is due to lack of information, which buttresses all the conspiracy theories.

Coercion and intimidation will work against the program. The government must make it abundantly clear that taking the vaccine is a completely voluntary exercise, and informed consent is necessary for administration of the jab. As the people watch the early recipients of the vaccine, and as real time data on safety and efficacy is rolled out by the government, more people will volunteer to take the vaccine.

The recent command and control intimidatory diatribe we heard from high offices threatening to limit liberties to use Zupco buses and to bar people from getting employment if not vaccinated are both extremely unfortunate and mortally retrogressive to the program.

But is the vaccination program adequate on its own to ensure the safe lifting of lockdown measures? The answer for now is no, until we have vaccinated enough people to protect the whole population. There is no magical figure to achieve herd immunity, but if 60-80% of the population is vaccinated, we will enjoy reasonable protection as a nation. This is a medium to long-term aspiration, considering that all we have now is 200000 donated doses of Sinopharm vaccine, which will cover 100000 people out of the projected minimum target of ten million recipients. There is hard work and difficult decisions ahead of us. We implore the government to collect quality data that will inform future steps.

What shall we do now to be able to lift the lockdown without courting a third wave backlash? The WHO suggests six conditions that must be met before lifting the lockdown:

  1. Disease transmission must be under control. We have seen a reduction in the number of new cases and of deaths over the past month. We are not there yet, but we are making progress. On this score alone, controlled relaxation of lockdown measures is feasible.
  2. Health systems are able to “detect, test, isolate and treat every case and trace every contact”. This condition is the weakest link in our fight against covid-19. Government has never been able to supply enough testing kits to meet demand, and we continue to grope in the dark.
  3. Hot spot risks are minimized in vulnerable places, such as nursing homes. In our case, its super-spreader events like ZUPCO buses, funerals, parties, shebeens, prisons and Zanu pf rallies. There is need to liberalise the transport sector to reduce unnecessary congestion. I do not consider church services to have super spreader potential if all things are done in an orderly manner and necessary precautions are taken, including social distancing, temperature checks, controlled numbers and masking up.
  4. Schools, workplaces and other essential places have established preventive measures. We must at this stage take heed of what the teachers’ unions are saying about re-opening schools. To quote PTUZ, “…opening of schools is not an event, but a process that must be preceded by broad planning and engagement of teacher unions, parents, prioritization of health and safety of teachers, pupils, and ancillary staff”.
  5. The risk of importing new cases “can be managed”. We need to manage our boarders and test all immigrants, with a view to isolating for an appropriate period those found positive. Remember, our nasty second wave was due to relaxation of the borders, failure to quarantine and test all immigrants, failure to follow up new comers in the community, and the presence of illegal crossing points. These must be remedied as a necessary precondition to lifting lockdown measures.
  6. Communities are fully educated, engaged and empowered to live under a new normal.

A new culture must emerge. Social distancing, not shaking hands or hugging, masking up, limiting size of gatherings, banning cultural practices like to eat at funerals, frequent hand washing with soap and water, use of sanitisers, must become the new normal for the foreseeable future.

Health workers must continue to wear PPE as before until the epidemic is over. Investment in covid-19 clinical management infrastructure and PPE must continue. Health worker continuing professional education must intensify. The law must be applied evenly across the political divide, religious affiliation, race, colour & creed.

Lifting the lockdown situation has become a necessity to save the people from suffering and starvation, and a sector-by-sector consideration must be done, with the necessary stakeholder consultation and a targeted geographical approach. New and much cheaper vaccines like the J&J that has been used in South Africa must be procured and introduced in Zimbabwe. Measures as outlined above must be taken to ensure we do not gravitate into an even nastier third wave.

Now is the time to move to alleviate the people’s suffering, while keeping the epidemic under control.

May I extend thanks to the MDC-Alliance Health Portfolio Committee members for their input into our articles.

Facts About Diabetes

No matter what’s going on in the world, maintaining a healthy, whole foods–focused diet is important for blood sugar management.

If you’ve been keeping up with federal guidance on who’s at a higher risk for complications from COVID-19, you know that people with diabetes are among the affected groups.

People older than 60, along with those who have underlying health conditions such as respiratory problems, high blood pressure, heart disease, obesity, and cancer are also at a higher risk for serious illness from the novel coronavirus, notes the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Furthermore, non-Hispanic Black Americans, Hispanics, and Asian Americans, all of whom have higher rates of both diagnosed and undiagnosed diabetes than white Americans, per the National Diabetes Statistics Report, are also at higher risk for serious COVID-19 disease, including complications and death, as has been widely reported.

Yet it’s still unclear whether diabetes can leave a person at an elevated risk of getting infected in the first place, notes the American Diabetes Association (ADA). This is apparently true despite research, including a review published in the Indian Journal of Endocrinology and Metabolism, showing that the immune systems of people with persistent hyperglycemia (higher than normal blood glucose, or sugar) are impaired.

Scientific Research Linking Diabetes and COVID-19 Complications
People with type 1 and type 2 diabetes are both three to four times more likely to develop serious COVID-19 disease and be hospitalized than those who don’t have diabetes, according to a study published online in December 2020 in Diabetes Care. A small preliminary study published in the March 2020 issue of Diabetes Metabolism Research and Reviews provides more insight into what’s affecting the severity. It looked at 174 people in Wuhan, China, and concluded that people with COVID-19 and diabetes but without other comorbidities were at a higher risk for severe pneumonia and the inflammation that contributes to an accelerated progression of COVID-19 and a worse prognosis.

What You Need to Know About COVID-19 if You Have Lupus
From Nose to Toes, the List of COVID-19 Symptoms Keeps Growing
Another study, which was published in April 2020 the Journal of Diabetes Science and Technology, analyzed 1,122 people at 88 hospitals in 11 U.S. states, and drew a link between diabetes and a fourfold increased risk of dying from COVID-19. Glytec, a provider of insulin software management, funded the research.

A study published online in May 2020 in Cell Metabolism supports these findings. For this cohort study, researchers analyzed the health data of 7,337 people in Wuhan with and without type 2 diabetes. They observed an association between having diabetes and an increased risk of dying from COVID-19.

Those with stable blood sugar levels had a better prognosis than those with diabetes whose blood sugar control was poor. In fact, the survival rate for those with good blood sugar control was nearly 99 percent, compared with an 11 percent death rate among those whose control was considered poor. Participants’ blood sugar levels were measured using postprandial and fasting blood glucose tests. The authors defined poor blood sugar control as tending to exceed 180 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), and well-controlled blood sugar as ranging from 70 to 180 mg/dL

Diabetes Complications Can Increase Risk of Severe Illness From COVID-19
Still, having complications related to diabetes, along with increasing age, may matter more than blood sugar control, suggested a study published in April 2020 in Diabetologia, which analyzed 1,317 people admitted to 53 French hospitals during a three-week period in March 2020. Study authors concluded that 10 percent of people with diabetes admitted to a hospital died within 10 days, and that men were more likely to die than women. The main contributing factors to death were having complications including neuropathy and heart disease, having a high body mass index (BMI) —indicating obesity — and being older. Patients between ages 65 and 74 were three times more likely to die than individuals younger than 55.

People with type 2 diabetes are definitely at higher risk of COVID-19 complications and death, but those with type 1 or gestational diabetes may also be at higher risk, according to recent guidance by the CDC. In the French study, 3 percent of admitted patients had type 1 diabetes, while 89 percent had type 2 diabetes. The remainder of diabetes patients had other types of the disease.

Black people who have type 1 diabetes and COVID-19 may be especially vulnerable to worse outcomes because they are more likely to present with diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA), a condition that causes the blood to become acidic and that can be life-threatening in its own right. A study published in the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism in December 2020 found that 55 percent of Black clinic patients and 33 percent of Hispanic patients presented with DKA, compared with only 13 percent of white patients. “The shared risk of COVID-19 and DKA in type 1 diabetes worsens the short-term and long-term prognosis for Black and Hispanic patients,” said the study authors, also noting that “previous studies have demonstrated an increased risk of DKA among minority populations with type 1 diabetes.”

Understanding COVID-19 and Its Symptoms

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that cause diseases including the common cold, but also more severe illnesses, such as Middle East respiratory syndrome (MERS); severe acute respiratory syndrome ( SARS); and COVID-19, which first became known at the end of 2019 during an outbreak in the city of Wuhan in China’s Hubei province and has since developed into a global pandemic.

According to the WHO, common symptoms of COVID-19 include:

Fever
Tiredness
Dry cough
Aches and pains
Nasal congestion
Runny nose
Sore throat
Loss of taste or smell
Skin rashes
Pain in the muscles or joints
Discolored fingers or toes
Diarrhea
Some infected people have no symptoms at all, but they can still spread the virus.

The CDC describes the emergency warning signs for COVID-19 in adults as:

Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
New confusion or inability to wake up or stay awake
Bluish lips or face
Inability to rouse or stay awake
If you are experiencing these symptoms, call 911 or call ahead to the hospital and let them know you are seeking care for COVID-19 or may have it, the CDC advises.

If you are interested in getting a test and want to know how to proceed, contact your local or state health department. The CDC lists state and territorial departments, and the National Association of County and City Health Officials has a directory you can use to find your local department.

For most people, the disease is mild, and many don’t develop symptoms at all. A South Korean study published in August 2020 in JAMA Internal Medicine looked at young people, the vast majority of whom were healthy, and found that 30 percent of those infected with the virus causing COVID-19 never developed symptoms at all. COVID-19 symptoms are mild for most others, although 10–15 percent of infected people do become seriously ill, and 5 percent become critically ill, according to WHO. Mortality estimates vary, but a New York–based study published in October 2020 in the Journal of Hospital Medicine found that 7.6 percent of hospitalizations resulted in death in August, down from 25.6 percent in March, when infection began to spread in the United States.

It’s important to note that the risk of death from COVID-19 is far greater than from influenza (flu), a disease it is frequently compared with. More than 340,000 people died of COVID-19 in the United States in 2020, according to CDC data. In contrast, the nation loses between 12,000 and 61,000 people per year to influenza, reports the CDC.

People’s Struggle Unstoppable

The MDC movement was born to emancipate people from the failed regime of ZANU PF.

The struggle was not to fill the pockets of the greedy few but to ensure that Zimbabwe goes back to democracy, rule of law, fighting corruption, ensure good working conditions for the employees, back to constitutionalism, fighting one party state, fighting state capture, ensure free and fair elections and so forth.

In Bindura we don’t forget the ruthless Border Gezi, Elliot Manyika, Masawi, the Mujambajechas and the rest evil crew of ZANU PF.

They killed our cadres in the likes of Trymore Midzi and several others. We have cadres who were with us in the trenches and we salute them.

One of the pioneers of the movement who never sold out and never left the struggle is Elliot Pfebve and his brother was killed in cold blood. These are the types of leaders who formed the MDC movement not for positions but for the total freedom of all the Zimbabweans.

The Gweru Congress ushered in New Leadership and the whole structure is intact. The diaspora structure is intact and all the external provinces support the struggle. The current leadership will take us far under the able leadership of President Nelson Chamisa.

Those who want to leave because of party positions you are free to leave. But my advise is that kusina amai hakuendwe. Together we will make a difference. The struggle is ours.

NGO Challenges Eviction Of Chiredzi Villagers By Mnangagwa Administration

Tinashe Sambiri|A Masvingo- based Non Governmental Organization, MACRAD Trust has challenged the proposed eviction of Chiredzi villagers by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

Mr Mnangagwa’s administration is planning to evict Shangaan families from their ancestral land.

Below is MACRAD’s position paper on government’s proposed eviction of Chiredzi villagers:

MACRAD position paper on government’s proposed eviction of Shangaan families in Chiredzi District.

Introduction
Masvingo Centre for Research Advocacy and Community Development (MACRAD) embarked on a fact finding mission regarding government’s proposed eviction of thousands of Shangaan people to pave way for lucerne grass farming in Chiredzi District.

Focus group discussions were conducted with some of the community leaders within the affected district. In this position paper, MACRAD commence by giving a brief summary background of the issue at hand and goes on to outline the agricultural, religious and cultural set up within the affected area. The paper looks into relevant domestic and international legislation and concludes with some recommendations.

Summary background

  1. On April 30, 2020, the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing (Honourable July Moyo) who was acting on behalf of the Minister of Lands, Agriculture and Rural settlement (Honourable Perence Shiri) convened a meeting in Chiredzi, a district in South-eastern Zimbabwe.
  2. Present at the meeting was Chief Sengwe, Member of Parliament for Chiredzi South Constituency, Chiredzi District Administrator, Chiredzi District Education Officer, Chiredzi Rural District councilors. Headman Chilonga, Headman Masiwamele, the minister’s delegation and a few other stakeholders.
  3. At the meeting, the Minister indicated that the government had identified about 6000ha of development land in Chiredzi. He added that a private company, Dendairy had an interest in growing lucerne grass in the identified area. The identified area covers part of Chiredzi East and Chiredzi South Constituencies.
  4. The Minister hinted that that the growing of lucerne grass would boost livestock production in Chiredzi and at the same time earn the country vast amounts of foreign currency.
  5. The minister told ZBC journalists who were present that the agenda of the meeting was to look into how the government and the private company were to engage the local community over the project.
  6. It was also highlighted that the Government intends to evict hundreds of Xangani (Shangaan) families residing within the identified land to pave way for lucerne grass farming.
  7. Dendairy, the purported investor is a private local milk processor based in Kwekwe. The company produces full cream milk, long life milk, powdered milk, ice cream and yoghurts among other dairy products. It exports some of its products to Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique.
  8. Lucerne, also known as alfalfa is a deep rooted perennial legume primarily used as dairy cows forage. It is usually harvested as hay and can also be made into silage.

Agriculture

  1. Chiredzi District lies in the South eastern part of Zimbabwe (and it boarders Mozambique and South Africa. It is in ecological region V and it receives minimal and uncertain rainfall. There are rich red soils and most crops can only be sustained through irrigation. It is on this background that the district has over decades been the sugar basket of Zimbabwe.
  2. The Shangaan people mostly grow sorghum grains (xibedlani, xitishi
and mutode) and millet grains (mahuvu and mpowo). They also cultivate some maize xifake, sweet reeds (matimba) sweet potatoes (muhlate), cotton, pumpkins mandunghu, groundnuts (timanga).
  3. Small and large scale farmers in the district mostly rely on sorghum because it is a drought resistant crop. Over the past years Delta Corporation Limited, a local beverages and brewery company has been capacitating the Shangani people in growing sorghum through a scheme referred to as Beverages Sorghum Contract Farming Scheme (BSCFS).
  4. Through the BSCFS, Delta contracts farmers and supply seeds and sometimes fertilizers. In return communities sell the sorghum to the Company and earn a living with the proceeds. Delta uses the crop to brew sorghum beer; the legendary Chibuku-Scud, Super and Eagle larger brands. Chibuku is no doubt the market leader in Zimbabwe’s traditional beer.
  5. The Shangani tribe inherited their name from their then King Soshangane. They are agriculturalists and pastoralists. The main domestic animals reared are cattle, goat and sheep. Zebu and Senga breeds of cattle are mainly kept. Other farmers also have Brahman Red Sindhi and other crossbreeds. Almost every households own goats. Goats are more adaptive to the semi-arid climate conditions.
  6. The south eastern lowveld is dominated by mopane tree (Colophospermum mopane) Cattle, goats and sheep mainly rely on dry mopane leaves for browsing during the dry season. It has been scientifically proven that the mopane leaves are highly nutritious.
  7. Livestock is a symbol of wealth within the Shangaan people. Communities use livestock for food, payment of lobola, school fees payments and also to financing their medical and other daily needs and expenses.
    Culture and Religion
  8. The Shangani people boasts of a unique and vibrant social culture which they are proud to preserve. They are proud of their hunter/gatherer culture which recognises the importance of respecting the environment. They depend on sustainably utilizing the natural resources within their communities.
  9. A number of traditional and cultural ceremonies are still being conducted by the Shangaan people. During these ceremonies high-spirited dances such as Chinyambele Muchongoyo, Chokoto, Marula, and Chigubu are performed. Musical wind and string instruments such as Chizembe and Chitende are used. During the dances, men would be wearing grass, cowrie shell, armbands adorned with animal hides and porcupine quill headdresses.
  10. The Shangani people perform rainmaking ceremonies at several sacred sites. Traditional beer is brewed and a black chicken is used to ask for the rains from ancestors. This is normally done at Chikhovo hill, Mapume hill and at the Dzinzela baobab tree. Other key tombs such as that of Mungoni, Hahlani and Kangale are also rainmaking sites.
  11. Male initiation to adulthood ceremonies known as Ngomeni are still being conducted by the Shangaan people. Circumcision has been done during these ceremonies since time immemorial. Before the actual circumcision, young boys are isolated from their villages. They are normally taken to the sacred Chitiyo hill or at Chikulungu stream. No unauthorised persons are allowed at these sites. The boys are taught about manhood after which they are then circumcised. They receive further lessons before graduating into manhood.
  12. Girls are also initiated into womanhood through a ceremony known as Khomba. Elders in Chilonga say female genital mutilation is no-longer part of Khomba but it used to be. Girls are isolated from their families for a month. They and they are taught about womanhood, cultural and traditional dancing and other cultural practices. After the Khomba ceremony the young women wear red caps with pins. Khomba is a sacred ceremony which is normally done annually between the month of July and August. The ceremonies are conducted at sacred sites along streams which includes Chigwejiva and Chipinda.
  13. There is a traditional method of catching fish which the locals call Saila. It is organised by the Chief. The Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (ZimParks) allows the people to do Saila fishing. In 2011, ZimParks even assisted the Shangaan people with food and fuel to facilitate Saila fishing.
  14. The Shangaan elders have vast experience in indigenous knowledge systems. They have unique understandings, skills and philosophies which have been developed over decades. These skills enables the Shangani people to sustainably interact with their natural surroundings.
  15. They indigenous Shangaan people have developed exceptional traditional ways of weather forecasting that help them to fore-plan their activities some days in advance.
  16. There are unique herbs and shrubs known by the Shangani elders. These herbs have medicinal properties for both the people and their livestock. The Zhombwe, a plant which produces a pumpkin like tuber is one such example. The tuber has medicinal properties used to cure cattle. They use a one pumpkin tuber to feed three cattle, a ratio developed by their forefathers. Other plants such as Chikalambutani are known to be highly poisonous.
  17. There are several Shangani traditional healers recognised by the Zimbabwe National traditional healers Association (ZINATHA). The traditional healers have sacred sites where they perform rituals and ceremonies. The traditional healers obtain medicinal and spiritual resources from the forests and water bodies within their jurisdiction.
  18. Christianity is one of the main religion within the Shangani community. There are a number of shrines within the communities. Some hills such as Chipfungwana, Chitiyo and Makwambe are sacred and members of apostolic sects such as Zion and Jeke Mission usually gather together in this mountains and pray for rains.
  19. The Shangaan people believe that praying and fasting in sacred hills such as Chipfungwana is an effective solution to ravaging pests such as tsetse flies, army worm and locust swarms.
  20. There are several other sacred hills, pools and ponds. Chigwejiva- Sala is one example of a site regard as highly sacred and spiritual. The Chigwejiva- Sala pool never runs dry even during years of the worst droughts. It is strictly visited for spiritual purposes or for watering cattle. The elders are allowed to bath in the waters but without soap.
  21. Dances such as Kelekele are performed at Chigwejila-sala. Abortion is condemnable and young women who abort are spiritually exposed at Chigwejiva-Sala.

Communities’ concerns

  1. The majority, if not all the Shangani people in South-eastern lowveld of Zimbabwe are aggrieved by government’s intended evictions. Some village heads under Headman Chilonga argued that this is not the first time the Shangaan tribe has been displaced.
  2. The villagers argue that they were left homeless in the 1960s after the colonial government forcibly evicted them from their ancestral, part of which is the now Gonarezhou National Park. They say they were further evicted without any compensation to pave way for sugarcane farming.
  3. The community argue that the Smith regime forced them to settle in the peripherals areas of the national park. Village head Mungoni recalls that he was 14 years old , the Smith regime relocated his family to the Chitanga area in Mwenezi, a place which was then Tsetse fly infested.
  4. War veteran argues that it is the loggerheads with the colonial government that sparked the Chimurenga war which latter gave birth to an independent Zimbabwe. The villagers argue that the Land Reform Programme in the 2000s allowed the Shangaan people to regain some of their remaining ancestral land. They feel the government is now betraying them by grabbing the little that has been left for them.
  5. The Shangaan community feel that tribalism is at play. The majority hold the view that the Shangaan speaking people are being discriminated by the Shona speaking people who dominate top government positions.
  6. They argue that the government should identify alternative land for what they say is not a bona fide investor. They suggest that Dendairy be allocated land in Shona communities. They say there are large pieces of dormant fertile land in Mashonaland. One angry village head said the proposed displacements can cause an uprising and fuel an ethnic conflict in the country.
  7. Villagers claim that they have developed symbiotic relations with their environment and further displacements will greatly affect them.
  8. The Shangaan people claim that their ancestors were buried in the land which the government now wants to give away to a private investor. They say some of the graves have strong spiritual connections to the living. Headman Mungoni showed MACRAD one sacred grave where rain making rituals are annually performed. Several other Shangaan people share the same experience.
  9. The Shangaan people have fears that if ever they will be evicted, their ancestral graves, sacred mountains, streams, pools and other cultural, religious and spiritual sites will not be preserved and protected if they are to be evicted. They also have fears that they will not have free access to these sacred sites.
  10. One village head elaborates that the last time they were displaced and resettled to pave way for Sugarcane farming, they spent about 4 years without rains and he blames the displacements for the drought. The rationale being that the Shangaan elders no longer had access to their sacred places of worship and places of performing cultural ceremonies.
  11. The communities argue that they were never consulted. They argue that sometime early this year they only saw some white touring their land driving Toyota Landcruizer vehicles and appeared to be surveying. They further aired out that in January 2020, they were made to gather and make declarations of their assets by some people whom they say had vehicles without number plates. They say they felt intimidated by these people who claimed to have been sent by the president.
  12. Some village heads who opined that, if at all the government wants the community to benefit from lucerne grass farming , it should direct Dendairy to contract the communities so that they can themselves practice Lucerne farming. They say they are prepared to be taught by AREX officers and even Dendairy experts on how to farm lucerne.
  13. The village heads argue that they have over the years been working very well with Delta Corporation Limited through BSCFS project. One village head who is also a farmer says him and other locals have been each producing up to 60 tonnes of sorghum per season. He says he personally owns two tractors and other hand farming equipment’s courtesy of Delta Corporation.
  14. The complainants also fear that they may never be
adequately compensated by the government or by Dendairy. They persistently cited Tugwi-Mukosi dame project and the Chisumbanje ethanol plant project as practical examples of non-payment of compensation.
  15. The other concern raised by Shangaan communities is the fact that there is uncertainty on where they will be relocated to if they are to be evicted. They are not aware as to whether there are or would be schools, clinics, hospitals roads or other infrastructure at the places where they will relocated to, if they are to be evicted. They are worried about the proximity of the intended resettlement sites with their sacred religious and cultural shrines and sites. They do not even know if at all there will be able to access these sites.
    Legislative framework
  16. Zimbabwean law is founded on in the value of the supremacy of the Constitution. It follows therefore that any decision that the government may make must be in all fours with the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment(No 20) Act 2013 (hereafter the Constitution)..
  17. The nation’s diverse cultural, religious and traditional is one of the key values and principles, on the respect of which Zimbabwe is founded. As has been elaborated above, the Shangani people have a vibrant cultural, religious background. Equally relevant is section 3 of the Constitution which states that the principles of good governance, which binds the government includes the recognition of the rights of ethnic, racial, cultural, linguistic and religious groups.
  18. The national objectives set out in Chapter 2 of Constitution are an important yardstick upon which upon which the government can be held accountable in terms of compliance with its human rights obligations towards the people.
  19. National development is one of the country’s objectives. It is no doubt that the proposed lucerne grass farming is a national development programme. Section 13(2) of the Constitution provides that whenever the government put national development programmes in place (like Lucerne production in this case), such measures must involve the people in the
formulation and implementation of development plans and programmes that affect them. It therefore goes without saying that the Shangaan people who are to be evicted must actively be involved in the lucerne project plans and project.
  20. The constitution further imposes an obligation upon the state to ensure that local communities benefit from the resources in their areas. This means that the government must ensure the Shangaani people benefit from the land and other resources in the south –eastern lovield of Zimbabwe.
  21. Another important national objective with a direct bearing on the Shangani people is the Preservation of traditional knowledge systems. Section 33 of the Constitution mandates the state to take measures to preserve, protect and promote indigenous knowledge systems, including knowledge of the medicinal and other properties of animal and plant life possessed by local communities and people, As has been elaborated above there is a vibrant traditional knowledge system within the Shangaan community that ought to be preserved protected and promoted.
  22. Section 16 of the Constitution further imposes an obligation upon the government to promote , preserve cultural values and practices which enhances the dignity , well-being and equality in Zimbabwe.
  23. The government’s proposed decision to displace the thousands of indigenous Shangani people to pave way for lucerne production by Dandairy may infringe fundamental rights and freedoms set out in the Constitution,
  24. There is a likelihood that regional and international law will be violated through the intended evictions. There is potential violation of the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights (ACHPR), the United Nations International Convention on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) all of which Zimbabwe is a signatory.
  25. Section 60 of the Constitution protects the right to freedom of conscience, which includes freedom of thought, opinion, religion or belief; and. The same right is protected in article 18 of the UDHR, article 18 of the ICCPR and article 8 of ACHPR. It is a fact that evicting the Shangani people from the their land will disconnect them from their religious and sacred spiritual sites within their land.
  26. The Constitution also recognise culture rights in section 63. Correspondingly, article 27 of UDHR states that “Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits.” Article 27 ICCPR
and article 17 ACHPR also protects cultural rights. As elaborated above, the cultural lives of the Shangaan people is depended upon sacred mountains, streams, pools other unique cultural sites within their ancestral land.
  27. Section 71 of the Constitution recognises property rights. It states that every person has the right, in any part of Zimbabwe,
to acquire, hold, occupy, use, transfer, hypothecate, lease or dispose of all forms of property. The Constitution however provides that. Section 71(3) provides no person may be compulsorily. A person cannot be deprived of their property except where the following conditions are satisfied.

“(a) the deprivation is in terms of a law of general application;
(b) the deprivation is necessary for any of the following reasons—
(i) in the interests of defence, public safety, public order, public
morality, public health or town and country planning; or
(ii) in order to develop or use that or any other property for a purpose beneficial to the community;
(c) the law requires the acquiring authority—
(i) to give reasonable notice of the intention to acquire the property to everyone whose interest or right in the property would be affected by the acquisition;
(ii) to pay fair and adequate compensation for the acquisition
before acquiring the property or within a reasonable time after the
acquisition…”

Article 17 ICCPR also provides that everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others and that No one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property. Similarly, Article 14 ACHPR states that the right to property may only be encroached upon in the interest of public need or in the general interest of the community and in accordance with the provisions of appropriate laws.

  1. That the thousands of people who are set to be evicted had constructed homes on the land is indubitable. Almost every household owns, cattle sheep, goats. It is not clear how the communities would be able to move and transport their livestock if they are to be evicted. Livestock is property and evicting the people boarders will likely violate the enjoyment of property rights
  2. The right to agricultural land is protected in section 72 of the Constitution. The section also provides that the state can compulsorily acquire land is the agricultural land, or any right or interest in such land, is required for a public purpose including settlement for agricultural or other purposes. Section 72 also provides that compensation for improvements effected on land before acquisition is payable.
  3. It is a fact that the Shangaan people have been in peaceful and undisturbed possession of agricultural land. They have been exercising rights to agricultural land for decades. There is a high likelihood that these rights will be violated if they are evicted and if no sustainable measures are put in place to protect and safeguard their rights.

Recommendation

  1. The Government should properly give notice of the proposed acquisition of land by making a publication in the Government Gazette identifying the land in terms of Section 72(2) of the Constitution.

ZLHR Statement On World NGO Day

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

Press Statement
27 February 2021

On World NGO Day, Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) calls upon all members of the public to celebrate the contributions of Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) towards the protection and promotion of human rights, democracy and inclusive development across the globe.

World NGO Day is commemorated every year on the 27th of February, and it aims to pay tribute to the NGOs, HRDs and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) which perform the vital, but often unnoticed, work of defending human rights, promoting democracy and providing
social assistance to the most vulnerable members of society.

The day is also an opportunity for states to reflect on the steps that they should take in order to create an enabling and welcoming environment for NGOs. The people who work in NGOs and CSOs are often exposed to great personal risk because of the systematic harassment they experience at the hands of authorities all around the world.

World NGO Day therefore seeks to celebrate the bravery of these people and call for an end to their persecution everywhere.

NGOs and CSOs enjoy special recognition from international bodies such as the United Nations (UN) and the African Union (AU). NGOs can obtain consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and this status will grant NGOs access to ECOSOC, its many subsidiary bodies, the various human rights mechanisms of the United Nations and special events organized by the President of the General Assembly. The AU has a Civil Society Division that has a mandate of ensuring that the contributions of civil society permeate all aspects of AU principles, policies and programmes.

NGOs that have consultative status with ECOSOC can be accredited to participate in the sessions of the Human Rights Council (HRC) as observers. This observer status grants NGOs access to the HRC secretariat, the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).

Observer status also allows NGOs to attend and observe proceedings of the HRC, submit written statements, make oral submissions and participate in debates and panel meetings. The African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights also grants observer status to NGOs. The Commission relies on NGOs to draw attention to violations of its Charter by state parties, bring communications on behalf of individuals and increase awareness about the Commission’s activities.

NGOs protect and promote democracy, provide humanitarian assistance, provide social services, raise awareness about important societal issues and provide technical expertise that promotes sustainable development.

NGOs play an indispensable role in the promotion and survival of democracy worldwide. They play the crucial function of fighting the abuse of power by states. They expose the violation of human rights by state actors and take legal action in order to obtain redress for the victims of the human rights violations.

The legal action taken by NGOs also serves to fight state impunity and pressure governments to desist from the violation of human rights. ZLHR, for example, works on anti-impunity cases that are meant to hold state actors accountable for human rights violations.

The anti-impunity cases that ZLHR works on have the dual purpose of obtaining relief for the victims of state-sanctioned violence and of influencing the authorities to desist from violent practices that lead to expensive lawsuits. NGOs also promote democracy by spreading knowledge about human rights and constitutional rights within communities.

The advocacy work and litigation work by NGOs serves to ensure that governments remain accountable to their electorates. NGOs also provide human resources, medicines and food to victims of natural disasters across the globe.

Apart from humanitarian assistance, they also provide resources and special services to persons living with disabilities, the elderly, vulnerable women and children. NGOs also provide technical expertise that can be used by governments to develop programmes that will promote development or address pressing societal issues.

In the context of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, NGOs have played an instrumental role in the design and implementation of responses to the pandemic. In addition, they have been involved in providing direct health services to communities as well as providing social assistance to the most vulnerable members of society.

NGOs have documented human rights violations as many states have used the COVID-19 pandemic as a convenient excuse for cracking down on human rights and democracy.

NGOs face threats to their existence despite the vital contributions they make to society.

States are using laws to restrict the space of operation of NGOs.

In Zimbabwe, members of NGOs and CSOs are often victims of systematic harassment by authorities in the form of arbitrary arrests, intimidation, criminalisation of civil society work and character assassination. In addition, the rights to assembly and association are being restricted by Zimbabwean authorities, which has the effect of hampering the activities of NGOs and CSOs.

ZLHR therefore calls upon the Zimbabwean authorities to cease all actions that serve to restrict the operational space and work of NGOs. In addition, ZLHR condemns the systematic prosecution, harassment and intimidation of human rights defenders (HRDs) and members of the NGO sector by the Zimbabwean authorities.

“Mapostori Beaten” Chitungwiza Police Details Retaliate, Arrest Minors

By A Correspondent- In Chitungwiza, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights rescued five juveniles and eight adult residents, who were detained for about five hours at Town Centre Police Station, where they were charged with committing public violence.

The juveniles and the adult residence were arrested Friday afternoon after law enforcement agents alleged that they were part of a group of people who allegedly attacked police officers who wanted to arrest a bar and restaurant owner for breaching national lockdown regulations.

In their defence, the juveniles, who are represented by Freddy Masarirevu of ZLHR, said they were just picked up by police officers who knocked and conducted a door to door search for all male persons while others said they were arrested while fetching water at a
community borehole.

The juveniles, who were later released following Masarirevu’s intervention are expected to appeared at Chitungwiza Magistrates Court on Saturday 27 February 2021.

On Friday, ZimEye exclusively revealed that police officers ran for dear life after they were attacked in Unit H by mapostori.

Below is the story:

Unit H shops

Police officers in Chitungwiza on Friday ran for dear life after they were beaten up by Mapostori in Unit H, Seke.

The police officers who, according to residents, are in the habit of demanding bribes from citizens and small business owners operating during the Lockdown were attacked and they took to their heels.

Unit H shops

Said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity:

“They came as usual and they threw teargas inside one of the bars at Unit H shopping centre after they failed to get a bribe. They wanted to arrest one of the man whom they accused of violating lockdown regulations by selling beer through the window.

The man ran away and they followed him “mumusha”, the name given to the area where mapostori reside. This did not go down well with mapostori who feel their area is holy and such acts were a violation of their privacy.

Mapostori came out in their usual numbers and started beating up the police officers who took to their heels. They were attacked left right and centre and they ran like a leopard chasing the wind.

They called for reinforcement and came back with anti riot police officers. These were also attacked by stones and it took a while for them to disperse the angry and agitated crowds that had gathered siding with mapostori.

After realising that they were fighting a losing battle, the anti riot police details went away and came back later targeting individuals from the area. They went around the homes breaking down doors and windows where they suspected that there was someone inside. They arrested people including minors and over 60 people were taken to Town Centre police post accused of assaulting police officers.

Parents whose children had been picked up were also arrested when they followed their minors wanting to inquire why they had been arrested.”

Added one parent:

“They arrested my small boys whom they picked up for no reason but simply because they were rounding up everyone in the area. They did not charge them but said i must pay a fine. I ended up bribing them to release my boys because i did not have the $50 000 fine for each of my four boys.”

Efforts to get a comment from police spokesperson Paul Nyathi was work in progress by the time of writing.

Lilian Timveos To Replace Perrance Shiri And Border Gezi, Will It End Well?

The leaked audio below reveals Timveous was recruited for the purpose of luring other MDC members, in the clip, in which she is being recruited by another agent.

Lilian Timveos

ORIGINAL STORY BELOW….

By Farai D Hove | It’s game over now – A leaked audio between the MDC renegade Lilian Timveos and Tapiwa Mashakada ‘s girlfriend Memory Mbondiya reveals that Emmerson Mnangagwa has discovered that constitution-criminal, Douglas Mwonzora, is worthless.

Douglas Mwonzora

Mnangagwa had until February 2021 been hoping to use Mwonzora to sway away MDC Alliance leaders from his opponent in the 2018 polls, Nelson Chamisa. But all hopes have fallen away after Mwonzora was discussed in military Joint Operations Command (JOC) meetings as having no consequence or value in the move to dislodge Chamisa. The development now leaves Mwonzora on the wayside alongside his spongebob, Thokozani Khupe whose leadership career has also come to a sudden end.

Since 1982, every politician who has served as Mnangagwa’s agent from the days of the Gukurahundi-machinator, Enos Nkala, has been dumped in the end. Many have been assassinated and these include a string of men and women used for recruitment assignments since 1981, from William Ndangana, Maurice Nyagumbo, Mover Mahachi, Border Gezi and in recent months, the late Perrance Shiri.

The leaked audio below reveals Timveous was recruited for the purpose of luring other MDC members, in the clip, in which she is being recruited by another agent.

The involvement of JOC leader Oppah Muchinguri first exposed in WhatsApp charts early last year, was confirmed in photoshoots during the week of Timveos standing with her at State House during a botched initiation ceremony as Muchinguri presented Timveous and Blessing Chebundo to Emmerson Mnangagwa.

There are now frantic efforts to recruit members so to appease the failed experiment, as ZANU PF on the other side in a change of plan, moves to try to cancel 2023 elections.

The audio was first exposed by ZimEye on the 8th February and the transcript is reproduced below-

Leaked Mwonzora audios: there’s no election in 2023, Chamisa will crush us.

By A Correspondent | London – ZimEye.com

  • Mwonzora now useless.
  • National Interests first.

By Memory Mbondiya(transcript): As soon as we open Parliament a new law is being passed that they will not be any byelections anymore.

So if people like Lilian Timveous come through, she will go straight for Amos Chibaya’s Mukoba constituency. She will be the MP for Mukoba with immediate effect.

So you need to move with speed and guess what, Hwende of all people went to negotiate with Mwonzora to say, “yes you took my seat, please make sure I do not lose my car.”

Lily let me tell you, people are so cunning I am telling you. So the issue of the car you should know that they are some hard cores who will pretend like they are staying with Nelson Chamisa, but negotiate with Mwonzora in silence. we will make an exception with these to say one two three four people have come back to MDC T, so on the issue of their cars you should let them off, so the lawyers should out everything on hold, the issue of harassing people concerning cars so it is something that you don’t have to worry. so you should now take effort to come and negotiate but as it stands I tell you already that they will not be an election at all.

Do you think that if we get 2023 even MDC T, is ready for an election? There is nothing like that, so, the situation is terrible my bhururu-friend. So we had a fruitful meeting. I think things are taking shape you just need to take a decision at the end of the day, to take a bold decision like: this is what I’m going to do, it’s about me and my family because every other person is looking out for themselves, because they are selfish people and the are negotiating behind-the-scenes you are left behind the scenes, so make a move my sister.

Listen well Lily, don’t relent at all, don’t fail to talk to Douglas Mwonzora because he said the most important thing people should not worry about positions in the party because we shall go to the ordinary Congress for now what we need to do is to secure a position in Parliament or in the Senate or in the government.

Once you have secured a position you will have even funds to enable you to campaign for the next stage of posts. But where we want to take the party forward is we want loads of positions that people can scramble for to win, rather than going to an election because we know if one person of such and such a faction, if they win the whole slate, isn’t it you know what happens at congress?

The whole slate of that person is the one that enters. So sometimes it is not worth it so the most important thing is to secure your slate first and then you will fight for your position later. Which position? The one at the party level, but as of now, we are looking at national interests. Do you see now? Politics at the national level rather than at a party level so that is where we are. | FULL STORY ON WWW.ZIMEYE.COM

Veterinary Services Department Neglects Farmers In Masvingo

Masvingo Province has been hit again by a new wave of cattle deaths that has left many farmers with empty pens. The local farmers who spoke to Community Tolerance and Reconciliation and Development (COTRAD) expressed concern over the lack of commitment by Government’s Veterinary Services Department -towards the prevention of the persisting theileriosis, a tick-borne disease. Theileriosis which is caused by uncontrolled ticks killed hundreds of cattle in Chatsworth and other parts of Gutu last year. The disease hit many districts of Masvingo Province in January 2021.

The famers say the government’s veterinary service department, which is responsible for the provision of animal and zoonotic diseases surveillance, animal health risk management, and animal health and protection has failed its mandate. The department is failing to frequently provide adequate dipping chemicals to dip tanks despite continuous outbreak of tick-borne disease. During the rainy season cattle are supposed to be dipped at least once every week so as to break the cycle of ticks. “As famers we call upon the Government and the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement to ensure the supply of quality dipping chemicals, livestock dosses and vaccinations to the Veterinary Service Departments and closely monitor the distribution of these chemicals to avoid corruption and diversion of use. The dipping chemicals which are rarely supplied to our local dip tanks do not remove all ticks, therefore we doubt the quality of such chemicals.” said one farmer.

Farmers are buying their own cattle dipping equipment, chemicals and vaccination despite paying cattle tax to the government to enjoy veterinary service. Long queues are seen at Veterinary and other shops which provides livestock health education and chemicals in Masvingo town with farmers from different districts even with COVID-19 lockdown restrictions that prohibits the movement of people. Exemption letters written by Chiefs and other traditional leaders are not being considered by the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) at checkpoints. Therefore, some small holder and peasant farmers from rural areas are reportedly failing to access town to purchase cattle vaccinations due to lockdown restrictions.

“COTRAD encourages the famers and the dip tank committees to engage the Ministry of Lands, Agriculture, Water, Climate and Rural Resettlement and Veterinary Department when having such concerns.”, said Kupfuwa Ishmael, COTRAD official. The Veterinary Service Department is responsible of promoting bio-security, animal health and welfare for the benefit of the livestock industry through implementing risk management measures for prescribed animal diseases and pests control, and building and maintaining physical veterinary infrastructure such as dips, animal handling facilities.-COTRAD

STUDENT LEADERS, JUVENILES AND JOURNALIST ARRESTED IN FRESH CRACKDOWN ON HUMAN RIGHTS DEFENDERS

ZIMBABWEAN authorities on Friday 26 February 2021 arrested student leaders, juveniles and a journalist in a fresh crackdown on human rights defenders.

First to be arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) members, were three students namely Richard Paradzayi, Paidamoyo Masaraure and Leam Kanengoni, who were apprehended at Harare Magistrates Court on allegations of unnecessary movement.
Paradzayi, Masaraure and Kanengoni, who are represented by Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), were detained at Harare Central Police Station.

ZRP members also arrested Kumbirai Mafunda, a freelance journalist inside Harare Magistrates Court, where he was covering the appearance in court of pro-democracy campaigner Makomborero Haruzivishe and accused him of practising journalism without accreditation from Zimbabwe Media Commission (ZMC).

The five police officers who arrested Mafunda and detained him together with Paradzayi, Masaraure and Kanengoni at a police post located at Harare Magistrates Court, refused to accept representations by the freelance journalist and his lawyers Obey Shava, Kossam Ncube and Jeremiah Bamu to the effect that law enforcement officers and other stakeholders should accept ZMC accreditation cards  issued to media practitioners in 2019 and 2020 as the media regulatory body failed to undertake its national accreditation outreach programme in 2020 owing to the outbreak of coronavirus pandemic.

Mafunda, who was taken to Harare Central Police, was only released without charges preferred against him after his lawyers, who also included Tinomuda Shoko and Idirashe Chikomba, made representations to Chief Superintendent Oscar Mugomeri, the ZRP Officer Commanding Harare Central District regarding the status of accreditation of journalists and who ordered the release of the freelance journalist.

ZRP members also arrested Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) leaders who include Tafadzwa Ngadziore and Tapiwa Chiriga among others. The ZINASU leaders are represented by Chinopfukutwa and Bamu.

Earlier on Thursday 25 February 2021, ZRP members arrested Edmond Chimwene at Harare Magistrates Court and detained him at Harare Central Police for allegedly staging a one-man demonstration at Harare Magistrates Court, where he wore a t-shirt inscribed with words such as “Marxist for Life”, “Justice for All”, “Peace” and “Freedom”. Chimwene is represented by Bamu and Chinopfukutwa of ZLHR.

In Chitungwiza, ZRP members arrested five juveniles and eight adult residents, who were detained for about five hours at Town Centre Police Station, where they were charged with committing public violence after law enforcement agents alleged that they were part of a
group of people who allegedly attacked police officers who wanted to arrest a bar and restaurant owner for breaching national lockdown regulations.

In their defence, the juveniles, who are represented by Freddy Masarirevu of ZLHR, said they were just picked up by police officers who knocked and conducted a door to door search for all male persons while others said they were arrested while fetching water at a
community borehole.

The juveniles, who were later released following Masarirevu’s intervention are expected to appear at Chitungwiza Magistrates Court on Saturday 27 February 2021.

MYSTERY: Susan Mutami Makes Surprise Tweet: Hurungwe-Garage -Murderer Travels To Ghana To Heal The Curse.

By Dorrothy Moyo | Norton MP Temba Mliswa’s ex girlfriend, Susan Mutami at the weekend forced a-Sunday-mystery down people’s throats when she tweeted for the second time since the day she was stopped from flying out of Zimbabwe.

Mutami has spent a whole week in Zimbabwe after she was blocked from flying back to Australia and told she will be a state witness in a terrorism case against her boyfriend.

The holder of two fake degrees who says she studied counter terrorism, and is also a nurse, last week bolted out of a ZimEye interview after being asked to reveal the universities which issued her certificates.

The case the state has put her as a witness relates to the White City bombing which happened on 23 June 2018 which killed two people on the spot and left Vice President Constantino Chiwenga and his wife, Marry, nursing swelling boils on their bodies. At a time when the country has waited 2 years without clear details on who was behind it, Mutami earlier this month accused her 3 month-period boyfriend of possessing secret details on the incident.

She also accused Mliswa of attempted murder, saying he has planned to kill Emmerson Mnangagwa’s son, as well as presidential hopeful, Local Govt minister July Moyo.

Today, Mutami launched a tweet accusing an unnamed man of killing an unnamed man at a garage in Hurungwe. She went further to say the killer is now spending time making endless trips to Ghana so to heal the curse arising from that murder. Coincidentally, her boyfriend Mliswa who is from Hurungwe (his former Constituency) has been making several trips to Ghana.

Below was the full unedited text of her tweet:

Twimbos can you please educate me about Ngozi ini handinyatsoziva zvechivanhu. So In 2018 pane munhu akauraya mumwe mukomana in Hurungwe pa garage, since last year he’s been going to the family achida kuiripa but varikuramba.

“Arrest Of Young Activists Meant To Silence Zimbabweans?”

By Prince Njagu- As the Zimbabwean economy continues to take crumble. More and more young Zimbabweans are taking a stand against mal-governance and plunder of resources by politicians.

Jail time is the price that all young people have to pay for standing up against any form of injustice in Zimbabwe.

It all started with the arrest of MDC Alliance Harare West MP Joanna Mamombe and other MDC Alliance youth leaders in 2020. Which was followed by the arrest of prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and then an endless list of other activists.

“Arrests and abductions have become the norm in Zimbabwe. Anyone who has a different opinion to that of the ruling ZANU PF government; they are put in jail and denied bail,” said activist Sandra Bvungidzire.

Human rights activist Makomborero Haruvizishe, was violently arrested by security details in Harare for his courageous stand against the corrupt ZANU PF led government.

The arrest of Makomborero is being viewed by many as an attempt to silence the young people of Zimbabwe. Any action which opposes ZANU PF is a jail punishable offence and people of Zimbabwe live in fear of being persecuted.

Unlawful detention and imprisonment has become the ultimate price which Zimbabweans pay for disagreeing with the ZANU PF authoritarian rule.

Unlawful abductions and detentions have become the new normal in Zimbabwe. Anyone whose actions are deemed to be a threat to the status quo is used as an example to intimidate the others.

The courageous act shown by Makomborero resembles the current mindset of most young Zimbabweans who are now tired of the repressive ZANU PF rule.

These arrests are meant to intimidate the masses; but recent events point to more young Zimbabweans becoming more resilient and standing against the authoritarian regime.

“Nations are shaped defined and determined by the agency and electricity of their young people. Vibrant youth leadership is the oxygen that determines the destiny of nations. The young Makomborero defines courage,” said MDC-A leader Nelson Chamisa on his Twitter account.

The arrests have only worsened and so has the bravery of Zimbabweans.

The ZANU PF government has been accused of pulling the strings within the judicial system and making sure that anyone who is arrested for voicing against the “ruling elite” is detained; denied bail and made to rot in jail.

“We are worried that this weaponisation of law by the police and growing persecution of activists has a pernicious and gnawing effect on our ‘nascent’ democracy,” said Harare West MP Joana Mamombe whilst addressing protesters who went to attend flash protests at the Harare High Court on Thursday.

Headlands Communities Stranded As Mwarazi Bridge Is Swept Away

Mwarazi bridge

By A Correspondent- Mwarazi bridge links Headlands with Chendambuya, Nyanga, Mayo, Chinyudze, Rusape, and Maparudzi areas was Friday swept away leaving residents desperate.

The community has been relying on the Mwarazi bridge to access health facilities, schools, and agricultural markets mainly the Grain Marketing Board Depots.

Residents called for a speedy rehabilitation of the Mwarazi bridge as the disaster has forced them to use a detour which many said posed danger to life in the event of another heavy rain.

Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Felix Mhona, his deputy Mike Madiro, Minister of State for Manicaland Matsikinyeri, and other senior Government officials toured the site and expressed the need for quick action.

Minister Mhona said there was a need for quick action to ensure the Mwarazi bridge is repaired early and people continue with their economic activities.

A number of bridges, roads, and other infrastructure were destroyed during the current rain season.

“Illegal Structures Will Not Be Regularised”: Chitungwiza Municipality

Chitungwiza Municipality has sternly warned members of the public against building structures in areas where it shares boundaries with Manyame Rural District Council.

In a statement this Sunday, the Municipality said people should not buy stands from some unscrupulous elements in the mistaken belief that such transactions shall be entertained or that such illegal developments shall be regularised by Council. The notice read:

Council notes with deep concern the increased attempts by some individuals to illegally occupy and develop stands within Chitungwiza Municipality on the pretext that their illegal structures will be regularised.

Members of the public are hereby advised as follows:

  1. Any occupation and development thereof of a stand without the express authority of Council is illegal and will be treated as such.
  2. The administration of land wholly rests with Council. No Housing Co-operative(s), individual or group has anything to do with land administration in the said areas. Please be warned that Council does not operate through agents.
  3. Allocation of stands to be offered to beneficiaries is only done after one has met the offer conditions. Upon meeting the conditions, one is then allowed to sign a lease agreement and then shown the stand only by Council officials.
  4. Permission to develop allocated stands by beneficiaries can only be granted after one has an approved building plan and every construction stage has to be inspected by Council.

NB: Please note that Council shall take appropriate action on all illegal structures within its area of jurisdiction and the illegal occupants risk losing their hard-earned investments and shall be prosecuted.

Man Rapes, Impregnates Own Teen Daughter And Gives Her 3 Pills To Avoid Pregnancy

By A Correspondent- A 38 year old man from Dete in Hwange has been arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating his 17 year old daughter.

The man (name withheld to protect the identity of the victim) sexually abused his teenage daughter while his wife was away.

Three weeks after the rape incident, the man gave his daughter three pills to drink “to avoid pregnancy” and she did as instructed.

Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the man’s arrest last week.

Said Insp Banda:

I can confirm that we have arrested a 38-year-old male from Dete who allegedly raped and impregnated his 17-year-old daughter.

Circumstances are that on an unknown date but in October last year the complainant and her sibling aged nine were sitting together with the accused person.

They decided to retire to bed with the accused also going to sleep in his room. During the course of the night, the complainant woke up when she felt something on top of her.

Insp Banda said the girl, feeling sexually abused as well, pushed the person on top of her away before switching on her torch.

She was shocked to see her father tiptoeing out of the room and when she asked him the following day why he had raped her, the father denied the charge.

Added Insp Banda: In November 2020 the complainant told her mother about the rape and everything that had transpired while she was away.

However, the matter only came to light on 8 February 2021 through an anonymous tip-off from a member of the community.

Investigations were carried out leading to the location of the complainant who revealed the offence resulting in the accused’s arrest. The complainant is now pregnant.

Impact Of Gender-Inequality On Artisanal Mining

By Ashleigh Jinjika
Since 2000, Zimbabwe has faced serious challenges and threats to its peace and security as a result of deepening economic and political crisis. In the wake of the Zimbabwe Crisis, the last two decades have witnessed a dramatic increase in Artisanal and Small-Scale Gold (ASGM) mining activities.

This development has also seen the rise of marauding machete wielding gangs (loosely referred to as mashurugwi) who have descended on the mining sector and society at large. Resultantly, the mining sector has become a no-go area for the weaker sex (women) since the masculine (men) now dominate the artisanal and small mining sector in Zimbabwe. Women and girls suffer higher incidences of this violence because of their subordinate status in the society.
In recent months, the gangs have terrorised communities with government seemingly doing nothing besides half-hearted statements that the culprits will be arrested. The lack of government intervention to address this national security issue has fuelled or resulted in Zimbabwe to enter into a new crisis whereby the natural resources which are meant to benefit everyone now benefit one gender. Men due to their masculinity in nature dominate the mining sector at the expense of women.

The mining environment itself is also often dangerous for women, as there are instances of sexual harassment and pressure to engage in sex work. Sexual harassment violates a woman’s integrity and oftentimes leaves victims emotionally scarred all their lives. Additionally, there are often high levels of HIV and other sexually transmitted diseases in mining communities.

Mining sites also often lack sanitation, health services, and regular access to clean water, if accessible at all, are often far away.
Each day, violence stops a girl or woman from taking a job, compromising their future and the economic and social development of their communities. Therefore, the government has to respond to the violence taking place to ensure the environment will fair for both men and women such that they all benefit from natural resources to eradicate poverty.

Kae Chaps Opens Up On “JUZI”

KAE Chaps is currently riding on the crest of a wave with the success of his pulsating single “Juzi”, which has won the hearts of many since its release early this month.

The single was inspired by a real-life heartbreaking experience.

Born Kudakwashe Chapepa, the aspiring singer has spent the past six years battling for recognition in the cut-throat music industry.

And “Juzi” appears to have worked the magic for the Rugare-bred artiste who yearns to one day perform in the O2 Arena (a multi-purpose indoor ground in Greenwich Peninsula, Southeast London, popular for hosting concerts from the world’s top stars and elite sporting events for up to 20 000 fans).

The dream may not be far-fetched for the 24-year-old singer as another real life inspired single “No Man Curse” that he released on Wednesday is already causing waves on the market.

We publish below excerpts from the interview

Q: You were virtually unknown until you dropped “Juzi” on February 9, 2020. How has the track transformed your music career?

A: Since its release, a lot of things have changed. The attention has escalated. Corporates are jumping in with endorsements which is amazing. Also, several artistes that I respect a lot in the industry now want to work with me.

Q: Fans are still warming up to “Juzi” and you have released yet another promising single “No Man Curse”. Is it another real-life story?

A: Yes, “No Man Curse” was highly inspired by my personal experiences and what I see other people going through in life.

I used to work for a now-defunct popular satellite dish installing company. I was one day, November 20, 2017 to be precise, stabbed by criminals coming from work around 6.30pm.

The horrible incident affected me a lot. I fell into depression. I felt I was giving it my all, but not getting positive results as misfortune trailed me.

Q: How are you handling the pressure from fans, friends, and of course the media on your phone?

A: It is overwhelming at times, but I am really enjoying talking and responding to the messages. To be honest, I am surprised.

It is everything that I have always wanted, however, I did not expect it to happen so suddenly. At times the journey is much longer before you get a breakthrough.

Q: What kind of question(s) are you often being asked by fans or the media?

A: ‘Wanga wanyatsoitwasei’ (What exactly happened) for you to compose the song “Juzi”? and ‘What are you going to do with the juzi?’

Q: Are you not offended by fellow artistes who are doing answer songs to your track?

A: No, I feel humbled actually. The music culture is all about that. If people reply to or make covers of your song, it means you have done a good production and people love it.

Q: The future is looking bright for you. What is the next move from here, perhaps a new album?

A: More singles for now.

Q: In “Juzi” you really sound heartbroken, how was your Valentine’s Day like?

A: I was home chilling on my own the entire day.

Q: What is your family and friends’ take on this “new found” fame?

A: They are all proud because they know and understand the work and sacrifice it took for us to be here.

I am grateful for the support I have received from my uncles and siblings over the years. They have played a big role in moulding who I am today.

Q: Still on that, can you briefly tell us about your family?

A: I am an orphan. My mum and dad are late. I am a second born in a family of three. I have an elder sister and a young brother.

I come from a family that is extremely gifted arts-wise. However, I happen to be the first one to have seriously pursued music.

Q: Who do you credit for creating Kae Chaps?

A: A lot of people. From my uncle, brothers to friends. But I thank God and the drive has been supreme.

Q: What is your biggest dream?

A: To fill up the 02 Arena.

Q: Did Soul Jah Love’s death affect you in any way?

A: Yes, it did big time. I was a big fan, besides like every artiste, I was hoping to one day work with him. R.I.P Sauro.

“Gold To Zimbabwe What Oil Is To Nigeria, Can Turn Around Our Fortunes”: Not Whilst US1.2bn Per Annum Lost To Smugglers

By Patrick Guramatunhu- On 3 March 2016 President Mugabe admitted that the nation had lost $15 billion worth of diamonds because of the looting and plunder in Marange and Chiadzwa.

“This kind of plunder must immediately make Zimbabweans pass a vote of no confidence in Mugabe and his government,” commented Ken Yamamoto, a Japanese researcher, at the time.

“If this theft does not cause Zimbabweans to demand that he resign, then nothing else will. In that case, going forward, Zimbabweans must just be left to their own devices and the donors currently feeding the population must just take their efforts to other countries. The country cannot be helped. And no more of this nonsense that Zimbabweans are the most literate people in Africa.”

Zimbabweans never demanded that Mugabe and his regime must resign. Mugabe, for his part, never arrested even one of the diamond swindlers and never recovered even one dollar of the US15 billion.

Mnangagwa, who succeeded Mugabe following the November 2017 military coup, vowed “zero tolerance on corruption” and thus tacitly acknowledging that corruption was indeed still rampant. It is now over three years since the coup and he too has yet to arrest one swindler and recover one swindled dollar.

Indeed, the looting in Marange and Chiadzwa did not stop with Mugabe’s admission; it continued. Patrick Chinamasa, then Minister of Finance, told in 2017 parliament that government was receiving 1/6 of the expected revenue from the diamond mining.

The diamond looters had mining concessions that allowed them to keep their operations and earnings a secret. The late Edward Chindori Chininga revealed in a 2012 parliamentary report that the miners were not keeping any record of the quality and quantity of diamonds, to whom the diamonds were sold and for how much, who were the partners and how the spoils were shared out, etc. The mining concessions were a licence to loot and the GNU cabinet had issued these concession; this was all above board. This was institutionalised looting. Period!

Since Mnangagwa took over similar licences to loot have been issued in other areas including gold and platinum mining, sourcing and distribution of fuel, in agriculture and even in the sourcing of corona virus materials.

Fast forward to the present.

“We don’t need anyone’s money as we can do it on our own. Sometimes it’s just the mindset and belief to achieve that,” Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Dr John Mangudya told Business Times a few days ago.

“Like what oil is to Nigeria, gold is to Zimbabwe. The precious mineral alone has the potential to turn around the country’s fortunes.”

It is estimated that US$1.2 billion worth of gold is smuggled out of the country every year.

Just to put the looted diamonds and gold into perspective; the cost of long delayed Batoka Gorge Hydropower Project is US$ 3 billion. Think of the project as a second Kariba Dam and thus adding another 666 MW to the national grid. The money from these two minerals alone in a year would have paid for Batoka Gorge years ago and saved the nation billions of dollars in power imports and the all too common load shedding.

Zimbabwe is in a dire economic situation. The country’s agricultural sector, the driving engine of the economy, collapsed following the farm seizures and took the rest of the economy down with it. Unemployment has soared to dizzying heights of 90% and most basic services such as education and health care have collapsed after decades of being starved of funds.

50%, at least, of the Zimbabwe population now live in abject poverty, i.e. they cannot afford one decent meal a day much less other basic necessities of life such as education for their children and health care.

Corona virus has hit the wealthy nations hard but it was crashed the poor nation. The wealthy nations are coughing blood and the impoverished nations are burying their dead and will be doing this for years to come!

Most developed nations will have vaccinated enough of the people to achieve head-immunity by end of this year. Middle income nations, including SA and one or two Sub-Sahara African countries, are expected to reach head-immunity by the end of next year, 2022. Poor countries like Zimbabwe will not reach head immunity until 2023!

The task of economic recovery will only start in earnest after the corona virus threat has been dealt with. And so the delay in achieving head immunity will only make the task that much harder and take that much longer.

Like I said, poor nations will be burying their dead for many, many more moons to come!

Give the grime reality Zimbabweans are facing one would have thought that the RBZ Governor’s admission, reiterating Mugabe’s 2016 admission, that Zimbabwe is a wealthy nation if only it would end the criminal waste of her natural resources; would finally galvanise Zimbabweans to demand that Zanu PF resign. Sadly, no such demands have been made. Governor Mangudya’s admission was just water off a duck’s back.

However Ken Yamamoto’s prediction that “Zimbabweans must just be left to their own devices and the donors currently feeding the population must just take their efforts to other countries,” has largely come true. Most donors have walked away from helping Zimbabwe.

“Massive problems remain, our public health and education systems are a mess. Salaries are too low to retain key staff and standards have declined. The only solution to these problems is more money and here we face numerous problems,” wrote Mr Eddie Cross, a former MDC leaders and, until a week ago was on the RBZ Monetary Policy Committee together with Dr Mangudya.

“We have to grow our economy – we have laid the foundations for growth in the past two years but remain isolated politically and diplomatically and the financial sanctions on us under ZIDERA (the US system) limits our ability to tap into the global financial system and to borrow on lines of credit for our private sector. A growing economy needs much more money than a shrinking one. This was not an issue before, now it is critical.”

Of course, Mr Cross is aware of the rampant corruption in Zimbabwe and is one of those naive and gullible individuals who expect the country to thrive regardless of the regime’s insatiable greed and criminal waste of resources.

“Even though the international Community has committed itself to the provision of health care to the poor and the principle of universal education for children, we receive virtually nothing from international agencies or the so called “Development Partners.” In fact, the IMF even denied us aid to deal with the Covid-19 crisis,” continued Mr Cross. Confirming Ken Yamamoto’s prediction of donors walking out.

It is very hard, indeed near impossible, to help those who would not lift a finger to help themselves!

Zimbabwe Gender Commission Compiles Database For Professional Women

Commissioner Virginia Muwanigwa

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) has begun compiling a database of professional women who wish to be considered for appointment as executives or board members at State-owned enterprises (SOEs).

The Database for Women Professionals and Executives seeks to facilitate the inclusion of more women into senior management positions in parastatals.

A ZGC survey in 2019 concluded that most executive positions at public entities were occupied by men.

The survey showed that 79 percent of parastatal chief executives were men.

In a statement last week, the ZGC said: “The database will be used to identify women for possible appointments to State enterprise boards and in different leadership, professional and executive positions which may arise in Zimbabwe and globally where Zimbabwean women are eligible to take part.”

ZGC chief executive officer Mrs Virginia Muwanigwa said the database will offer appointing authorities a pool of qualified and experienced women for consideration.

“We have been complaining about unequal representation at high levels in public entities, so we are being proactive through providing relevant information to the appointing authorities,” said Mrs Muwanigwa.

“The database will help with readily accessible profiles of women professionals as and when needed.”

Two years ago, the commission threatened legal action at the Constitutional Court against public entities and institutions failing to enforce gender parity in appointing senior executives.

According to Zimbabwe Women’s Bureau board chairperson, Ms Moira Ngaru, the database was long overdue.

“The database will show that we have capable women,” she said.

“There is need to continually work to change societal attitudes towards women leadership and begin to consider women and men equally.

“In addition, we need to ensure that supportive policies that provide for gender parity are implemented and that the selection of board members be a gender-sensitive process.”

She said the database must be kept alive and be continually updated to allow for young and upcoming women leaders to be acknowledged.

Women organisations are also being encouraged to nurture women leadership through training, mentorship and networking, including continuously lobbying for women appointments.

Women Space Trust director Ms Audrey Charamba believes that with the database in place, the marginalisation of women professionals could soon become a thing of the past.

“The initiative by ZGC is very good and commendable because it does contribute meaningfully to the objective of parity.

“I think it will contribute meaningfully because when the world asks where the women are, then that element is taken care of.

“We applaud every effort because it is the dew droplets that will contribute to filling a whole bucket.”

The Public Entities Corporate Governance Act provides for the promotion of gender equality when making senior appointments at public enterprise.-statemedia

Zim Records Zero Covid-19 Deaths

By A Correspondent- For the first time in 2021, Zimbabwe on Saturday recorded zero COVID-19 deaths, bringing hope to the nation that President Emmerson Mnangagwa will finally open up the country to allow citizens to hustle for their families.

In January alone, the country registered an average of 27 COVID-19 deaths on a daily basis bringing the total number of COVID-19 deaths in the month to 837 deaths compared to 244 in February.

On Saturday the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) reported 14 new cases, all of them local cases.

The cumulative number of deaths as of 27 February 2021 stood at 1 463, 36 058 positive cases and 32 590 recoveries.

The national recovery rate has crept up to 90.4% and 3 126 frontline workers have been vaccinated.

Zimbabwe reverted to a hard lockdown on 5 January this year and President Mnangagwa is expected to review the restrictions in the next 48 hours.

“No Political Leader Should Be Left Alone In The Presence Of A Beautiful Woman”

I have been battling with the question of the power of the press. To tell you the truth, I have not made up  my mind  where the line should be drawn. The allegations against Vice-President Kembo Mohadi show the power of the press to build and to destroy a character and a career.

Let us begin with former US president Bill Clinton in December 1998. Monica Lewinsky had confided in Linda Tripp (a scandal monger) of her sexual liaison with Clinton in the White House library. Tripp volunteered to keep the germ-loaded underwear until such a time she could use it for blackmail.

In the transcript before me, dated December 19, 1998, Clinton, who had hitherto denied any sexual relationship, now changed course. “I did have a relationship with Miss Lewinsky that was not appropriate,” he said. “I misled people, including my wife. I deeply regret it.”

Before you read the next juicy bits, please find a safe seat. As Professor Lovemore Madhuku has said in the Mohadi allegations, there is no law against Philistine behaviour, especially when the accused is an elected official.  Now you will say: “Ken, please be regular. If not about a Philistine sexual act, what was Clinton being impeached for?”

Judge Kenneth Starr, Republican, accused Clinton of lying about his affair with Monica. Please men of Harare, Masvingo and Bulawayo, is there anyone among you who would volunteer to release information about their private affairs knowing fully that the wife and daughters are listening?

Clinton does refer to this matter. “Why is Judge Starr prying into the private lives of citizens?”

Democrats took this line of argument and refused to condemn Clinton, thus setting him free to finish his term of office.

Linda, an evil-looking gargoyle, conspired with Starr to bring down an elected president. If Linda had given me the information, and showed me the germ-loaded underwear in her keeping, I would have published the story. If I did not, H-Metro and Zimlive would claim to have made a scoop.

That is the danger posed by a headline-seeking press. Linda revealed the presence of the underwear to the press without Monica’s permission.

In Mohadi’s case, here is my suspicion. Four incidents are alleged. The claim is that the Vice-President by his use of bad words in the alphabet beginning the capital letter “F” was a Philistine. The information about the Bulawayo female student apparently came from third parties, and so did the information about the proposed office shindig. Two women are said to be employees under the VP’s supervision. These women have not filed complaints against him.

Then there is an evil tape record. Surely the women would not have taped themselves because it would compromise their relationship with their husbands. I suspect the secret service had the access and means to do this.

But why is the secret service prying into private lives?

As in the case of Clinton, they Federal Bureau of Investigation keeps secrets on a regular basis in order to blackmail their customers, politically or monetarily.

When Democrats were in opposition, they gathered a list of 22 women whom they said had been abused by former president Donald Trump. With the help of the FBI and other secret organisations as well as the press, they now claimed, what they did not claim for Clinton, that a person guilty of Philistine behaviour is not fit for office.

VP Mohadi has had difficulties with his marriage before. In March 1999, Stover Mutori, a development officer with the World Lutheran Federation, went missing. Working closely with Senator Tambudzani (Mohadi’s wife) on development issues, he was also suspected of being too close to the senator. His decomposing body was found on the 17th of August the same year. When Mohadi was promoted to minister of Home Affairs, the police investigation into the matter died a natural death.

When I was researching in Bulawayo, I was disgusted to find that a 24-year-old girl, Nokuthula, was associated with Morgan Tsvangirai, leader of the MDC. Steeped in Americanism, I gave unsolicited advice to some MDC officials that a leader of his stature should not be left in solitude with any woman not his wife.

“Iwe Kenny, your head is full of water, do you hear me? Morgan is a grown-up man. Do you want me to tell him whom he can see and whom he cannot?” Tsvangirai’s door keeper gave me a nice scolding (Zimbabwean English).

Nevertheless, I was correct.

No political leader should be left alone in the presence of a pretty woman.

The assumption which all political oppositions make when they are out of power, is that leaders should behave with a certain rectitude. History does not support this idea. King David caused the death of Uriah the Hittite in order to allow himself time with his wife Bathsheba. In recent times every American president from George Washington to the present has had problems with women. Only Barack Obama and Abraham Lincoln were free from scandal.

This does not mean that Philistine sexual practices bordering on lechery (extreme promiscuity) should be tolerated. In Africa, even before social media, there are secrets where everybody knows what is going on, but nobody knows anything. (Ashanti idiom).

Such behaviour leads to loss of charisma (the right to lead).

After taking former president Canaan Banana around the Great Zimbabwe in 1983, my staff informed me that Banana’s smart aide-de-camp Jethro Nyathi was his “girlfriend”. They ignored my  retort and explained that Banana was a “ngochani”.

Almost 20 years later, when Banana was trying to resuscitate Zapu as an opposition party, allegations of gay abuse of office were brought against him. He was sent to jail.

In this particular case, Mohadi should not blame us the fraternal brothers of the press. The press is used by political opponents to “finish him off” and that is why there is so much emphasis on Philistine behaviour, that tribe of humans who had no rules whatever, daughter slept with father and mother likewise slept with son.

It is judgement before trial. Having been tarred and feathered as a Philistine, any answer by Mohadi  to such allegations only serves to adumbrate the issues. The accusers are the jury and the judges. It is a no-win situation.

Here is a note of hope for the distressed: It is illegal to tape a voice without the owner’s consent.

Peace.

South Africa Gives Up On Beitbridge Border Post Fence

By A Correspondent- The R37 million 40km fence built along the border of South Africa and Zimbabwe will not be repaired despite the recommendations of parliamentary committee  because it’s just not worth it.

This was according to a response on Friday by minister of Public Works and Infrastructure, Patricia de Lille, to questions by the National Assembly.

The controversial 1,8m tall fence – jokingly referred to as the “washing line” because of its poor quality and the ease with which it can be breached – consists of six rolls of coiled razor wire and a razor wire grid erected over three weeks by Magwa Construction.

The company was carrying out maintenance work at the Beitbridge border post when the national lockdown was declared in late March.

In May, De Lille told MPs that the fence had been up barely a day before it was breached.

On April 20, she had requested an investigation by the auditor-general and five days later asked the public works anti-corruption unit to investigate, assisted by Special Investigations Unit members seconded to the department.

The investigation revealed a litany of incompetence and wrongdoing in the construction and recommended disciplinary action against 14 government officials.

Questions relating to the rectifying of fence defects, the delays with compliance of the orders, the disciplinary action against the contractors and their existing contracts with the department were put to the minister on February 11.

De Lille said an accounting officer had performed a detailed technical condition assessment of the fence and the outcome was found to be against the recommendations of the standing committee on public accounts – which was to rectify all physical defects in the fence “in line with all applicable regulations”.

“As the fence, in its current form, is not fit for purpose and in material non-compliance with the specifications, the department has taken a decision not to entertain the possibility of any further repairs of the fence.

“Any further border fence initiatives will be located in the context of the integrated border management solution underway.

“In this regard, the site clearance process is aimed at being completed by June this year.”

She said a best practice approach on border security, in consultation with the department of defence, would be published by the end of March 2021.

De Lille said security vetting for supply chain management personnel was a lengthy process and the reason was that only seven vetting officials had to vet 253 bids.

She described a protracted process, which included completing lengthy documents, after which officers had to go and interview the official being vetted, compile a report, as well as undertake a polygraph test.

Once this was completed, the files had to go to security clearance, which could take up to a year to process.

But the department had requested that the vetting files be a top priority at the State Security Agency.

Regarding disciplinary action towards the principal contractor, De Lille said it was recommended that the principal agent and the main contractor be restricted from doing business with the government, subject to the Treasury agreeing that their engagement with the department was irregular.

She said there was a delay in the evidence being released before the Restriction Committee and Authority (RCAA), as the chairperson of the RCAA was one of the officials cited in the report and subject to disciplinary action.

On February 26, the RCAA issued letters to the contractor and consultant asking why the department should not recommend to the National Treasury that they be restricted from doing business with the state.

The authority has given the service providers 14 days to provide their written representations and estimates that the process will be finalised by mid-March.

“At this stage, the department has not identified any justifiable grounds to terminate the existing contracts, as these contracts have been duly awarded. However, the department is reviewing these contracts through its internal audit unit.

Zanu Pf Says Covid-19 Vaccination Is A Matter Of National Security

By A Correspondent- Tafadzwa Mugwadi, the director of information for the governing Zanu-PF, has said COVID-19 vaccination is a matter of national security and those refusing to be vaccinated pose a national security threat.

“Let that be categorical that those who will deny vaccination will be a risk to others and national security,” Mugwadi said.

The statements come hot on the heels of President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s remarks threatening to punish those who do not take offered doses.

“You are not going to be forced to be vaccinated, but the time shall come when those who are not vaccinated won’t get jobs,” President Mnangagwa said on Wednesday while addressing supporters in Matabeleland Province.

He dismissed Sinopharm vaccine concerns as unfounded and noted that after the nation’s vice president and Health Minister, Constantino Chiwenga, had the first jab and “he is still here”.

The President, who has yet to be inoculated himself, stopped short of making vaccinations mandatory.

Still, his threats were criticized by some observers as both autocratic and unwise — threatening to further undermine confidence in vaccines that have been proven to be safe and effective at preventing serious illness and death.

Rashweat Mukundu, a researcher at International Media Support, a group focused on debunking false information in the media across African, said Mr. Mnangagwa’s message would bolster fears that the Zimbabwean government has “weaponized Covid-19 and has failed to see this as a public health issue.”

“For me, the message on compulsory vaccination suits the trend we have been seeing, which is Covid-19 as a political tool of control,” he said. “Vaccination is important but must be as a result of public awareness and confidence building, and not threats.”

“We have groups in Zimbabwe who for cultural, religious reasons may not opt for vaccination, and their rights must be respected,” he added.

Even something as simple as taking a local bus will be forbidden for those who aren’t vaccinated, he said.

While official statistics on the virus are not regarded as capturing the true scope of the pandemic, Zimbabwe has recorded more than 1,400 deaths since the outbreak of the disease.

Zimbabwe received a donation of 200,000 doses from the Chinese vaccine maker Sinopharm, and a further 600,000 doses are expected to arrive in the country early March.

Additionally, the country is set to receive more than 1.1 million doses as part of the Covax program, which is distributing vaccines to poor and middle-income countries in an effort to help address global inequities.

Chamisa’s Silence Strategic

By A Correspondent- Former Zanu-PF Politburo member and Information Minister, Jonathan Moyo has described as strategic, the continued silence maintained by MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa despite facing determined attacks from different fronts against him and party.

Since the Supreme Court in March last year stripped him of his right to be heir to the late MDC founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai, who died in 2018, Chamisa has been at the receiving end, but the opposition leader has remained mostly silent despite a barrage of attacks against him and the party he leads.

However, this has not been welcomed by some party officials and supporters who accuse him of letting them down by not standing up against President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his administration.

Chamisa’s silence has been commended by Moyo, a former key strategist in Zanu-PF but now a rabid critic of the ruling party, after he (Moyo) was forced into exile in 2017.

“Since the dubious 31 March 2020 SC (Supreme Court) judgment on the MDC’s leadership, Mnangagwa has used cronies, recalls, arrests, abductions, torture and defections to destroy the MDC-A,” Moyo, also a political science professor, said.

Scores of MDC Alliance MPs and councillors have been recalled as public officers by the MDC-T for no longer being party members. Among those recalled are senior officials including co-vice president Lynette Karenyi-Kore, secretary general Charlton Hwende and chairperson Thabitha Kumalo.

A number of the MPs and councillors have also crossed the floor and joined the MDC-T to avoid being recalled.

Other senior MDC officials such as co-vice president Tendai Biti, deputy national chairperson Job Sikhala, national party spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere, Harare West MP Joanna Mamombe, youth activists Netsai Marowa and Cecilia Chimbiri have been arrested on several occasions in the past 12 months on charges the MDC Alliance says are trumped-up.

Their cases are before the courts.

However, Chamisa has not said much on the repeated attacks on his senior party members and activists.

The government has also withdrawn funds from the Political Parties Finance Act the MDC Alliance has been receiving since the 2018 elections, seriously crippling the opposition party’s operations. The MDC-T is now a beneficiary of the funds.

To add to this, the MDC Alliance was last year also forced out of Harvest House, now Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House, on grounds the party was not the rightful owner of the building.

In the recent past, senior MDC Alliance and former legislators Tongai Matutu and Lilian Timveous have defected to Zanu-PF and have been warmly welcomed by Mnangagwa at State House. Zanu-PF claims more top MDC Alliance officials will soon join the ruling party.

However, according to Moyo, Chamisa has chosen to be strategic by saying or doing nothing over the perceived deceits by Zanu-PF and the MDC-T.

“By design or default, Chamisa has said and done nothing. That silence is today his strategic advantage!” Moyo said.

He said Mnangagwa had exhausted all his moves to destroy Chamisa’s political life, but the opposition leader has kept most of his decisions “close to his chest” and would soon use his cards to make moves and rise again to the surprise of Zanu-PF and the MDC-T.

“Also Mnangagwa has criminally used Covid-19 to cripple the MDC-A. In the process, he has played (all) his cards; as have Thokozani Khupe and Douglas Mwonzora. Meanwhile, Chamisa has kept all his cards close to his chest. He has a Blue Ocean advantage, full of surprises, to hit ‘dem’ hard!

After the Supreme Court ruling in March, Khupe was appointed interim president and ordered to organise an extraordinary congress to elect a new leader. The election was held in December last year, but she was, however, defeated by Mwonzora who is now the new MDC-T president.

However, Khupe has challenged the outcome of the elective congress accusing Mwonzora of vote rigging, violence and abuse of party funds. Mwonzora has since offered a position of first vice president, a post she is yet to accept.

Satanist Trashes Initiating 25 Minors Into Occult

goblin

By A Correspondent- A 22 year old woman from Acacia, Penhalonga, has vehemently denied allegations that she initiated more than 25 children into the occult.

The alleged Satanist (name withheld), told The Manica Post that she is a victim of a smear campaign, claiming that she is a born again Christian and a regular visitor to an Apostolic shrine.

Allegations of Satanism against the woman arose after a 12-year-old girl started manifesting at night last week and slithered on the floor like a snake.

The girl told her father that she and 25 other children in the area had been initiated into Satanism by the woman.

Two other minors had similar manifestations and one of the girls also accused the alleged Satanist of initiating her into the occult.

A neighbour, Emilio Magaso, said the alleged Satanist is not new to controversy and they believe she has a mermaid spirit.

However, the alleged Satanist told The Manica Post that she has been seeking prayers from a white garment prophet.

She said:

Honestly, look at me, I am 22 years old and I have a child. Why would I be friends with people who are 10 years younger than me? Most of these kids are not even teenagers and I do not even know them that much.

I am actually coming from the prophet’s shrine. He told me that those spiritual attacks are not a result of Satanism, those attacks are from the children’s jealousy families. The attacks have nothing to do with me.

During my high school days, my family’s spirits also haunted me but a local madzibaba delivered me and I am now a devoted Christian. They need to take their children to the prophet for deliverance instead of blaming me.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe National Healers’ Association (ZINATHA) president, George Kandiero, said indications are that the children were initiated into witchcraft.

He said:

The snakes and manifestations suggest that the children are already witches and wizards. The fact that some of the children’s mothers are also witnessing a change in behaviour is proof of this.

They need urgent cleansing through either traditional or Christian means. In addition, there is a need for proper witch-hunting so that there are no further initiations in the area.

FULL TEXT- AFFIDAVIT EXPOSES NEW TWIST TO GINIMBI’S ESTATE WRANGLE

The family of the late socialite, Genius Ginimbi Kadungure is embroiled in a property dispute with Patricia Darangwa, wh claims to be an attorney and in possession of the deceased’s Will that he had left behind in her custody which among other things provided that she be the testamentary executrix to Ginimbi’s ’state.

Below is the full text of an affidavit by Ginimbi’s sister, Juliet Kadungure.

In the High Court of Zimbabwe held at Harare.

Juliet Kadungure’s founding affidavit

I, the undersigned Juliet Kadungure, do hereby make oath and state that: I am a female adult and the 1st Applicant in this application. The facts I depose to herein are personally known to me.

All legal conclusions contained herein are on the advice of and attributable to my legal practitioner’s record.

  1. The Parties

The 2nd Applicant is Anderson Kadungure. He is a male adult and the surviving biological father to one Genius Kadungure who died on November8, 2020 (hereinafter called ‘the deceased’)

The 3rd Applicant is Neria Kadungure, a female adult and surviving biological young sister to the deceased. I am the surviving biological elder sister to the deceased.

Anderson, Neria and I (hereinafter otherwise referred to as ‘the family’ are beneficiaries of the estate of the deceased as his surviving blood relatives.

The 1st Respondent is Patricia Darangwa, a female adult whose address of service is 5th floor, North Wing, Runhare House Cnr K Nkrumah ave/4th street, Harare.

She is currently the executrix appointed by the 2nd Respondent under DR No. 1771/20 to the estate of the deceased.

The Master of High Court of Zimbabwe is the 2nd Respondent. He is cited herein in his official capacity.

  1. Factual Background.

A conspectus of facts in support of this application as follows.

On November 8, 2020, one Genius Kadungure died in a car accident. The late Genius Kadungure was a businessman and popular figure, otherwise known in contemporary parlance as ‘a socialite’.

He had vast business interests, investments and assets in Zimbabwe, Botswana and South Africa. To this extent a lot of information about his personal, family, and business life abounds in the public domain, before and after his demise.

Whilst still gathered at the deceased’s homestead in Domboshava and before his burial, we were approached by Darangwa who indicated to the family that she was an attorney and in possession of the deceased’s will that he had left behind in her custody which among other things provided that he be the testamentary executrix to the deceased’s ’state.

The family was surprised by the news of the will since the deceased never mentioned anything to do with writing his own will to any member of the family.

We were therefore bewildered by the talk of a will, coming as it did amidst mourning, shock and immense media publicity due to the popularity of the deceased. In interactions between the family and Darangwa before and on November 25, we told her that we were not ready to quickly accept the will as having been made by the deceased.

On November 25, a meeting about the deceased’s estate was held at the Master of High Court’s office. Anderson, Neria, Darangwa and I attended the said meeting but before on the same day, Darangwa unduly influenced the family to accept the will and threatened that if as the family we chose to reject it and her executorship, we would have tarnished her reputation as a lawyer and she was prepared to sue us and subject the estate to unwanted delays even all the way up to Supreme Court level.

She in the same vein attempted placate the family by dangling an offer that the family should sign a special power of attorney entitling me to administer the entire estate of the deceased.

The family accepted the will and recommended her appointment in terms thereof as executrix testamentary only because Darangwa influenced us to do so.

When we suggested a need to seek legal advice before expressing our views about the will to the Master of High Court, Darangwa dissuaded us citing that that was unnecessary since we already had her as a lawyer.

The Master of High Court accepted the will, produced by Darangwa to be the deceased’s will in terms of section 8(5) of the Wills Act (6:06).

The Master of High Court also appointed Darangwa as testamentary executrix to the deceased’s estate in terms of the will that he had accepted.

The family worked with Darangwa from the date of her appointment as executrix testamentary, albeit reluctantly, simply because she is the de facto and current executrix testamentary to the deceased’s estate.

However, the family remained with unanswered questions regarding the said will, a copy of which she never furnished the family.

Sometime in January 2021 and after the national lockdown had been introduced, the family decided to get legal advice and engaged the current legal practitioners who advised us of the need to get a copy of the will first to analyze its contents as well as to get the minutes of the meeting of November 25 and other relevant information.

Darangwa refused to avail the will citing that her offices were closed due to the lockdown, we only got a copy of the will upon written request to the Master of High Court.

The Master of High Court availed to us the will that he accepted, the minutes of what transpired on November 25, the inventory as well as the waiver of security contained in his records.

It is noteworthy that according to the minutes, the will was drafted by Darangwa, the same will confers an executorship benefit to her in terms of clause 2 thereof.

During the national lockdown, Darangwa attended to disposal of the deceased’s Lamborghini motor vehicle in hazy circumstances.

This Darangwa did without filing with the Master of High Court a detailed inventory of the deceased’s assets in terms of a distribution account that was never filed with nor approved by the Master of High Court.

This was without advertising the said distribution account in terms of which she sought to dispose of the said Lamborghini vehicle.

On February 7, 2021, our legal practitioner herein, Neria and I flew to Botswana to get an appreciation of the deceased’s company and the position of FNB Bank (Bostwana) with which the said company has an account.

The company has lines of credit extended to it for construction of a massive industrial complex in Botswana. It has a loan instalment arrears running into a third month now from December 2020 when its account got frozen.

The bank’s policy is that a customer that accumulates 3 consecutive months of loan arrears is automatically subjected to foreclosure for recovery of the debts.

After some bidding and pleading, FNB Bank placed a moratorium up to March 31, 2021 on the Quick Gases (Pty) Ltd account to allow resolution of the executorship and signatory issues.

The deceased left some assets in that country such as haulage trucks which are at the risk of alienation or disappearance if the executorship and will issues are not finalized expeditiously.

It is cumbersome for the family to work with Darangwa who it knows is illegitimate and on the basis of a counterfeit will.

Our legal practitioner and myself returned to the country on February 15, 2021. Neria returned on February 17. A few days after my return someone drew to my attention that Darangwa had went on to advertise the interim distribution account on February 5.

Sometime last year, Darangwa and I visited Botswana whereupon Darangwa was given a certificate of administration based on the letters of administration issued by Master of High Court.

However, the Master of High Court of Botswana rejected the will produced by Darangwa citing that it was not signed by the deceased. There is currently some litigation in the High Court of Botswana whereby Darangwa is fighting with one Leo Chiweshe over the legitimacy of Darangwa as testamentary executrix.

All applicants herein once supported Darangwa in Bostwana until February 2021 when we recanted what we had said in support of her after noticing the fakeness of the will that she produced.

The said matter is set for hearing on March 26, 2021.

  1. Application

Applicants seek an interdict in the interim prohibiting any administration of the deceased’s estate pending the return date upon which date a review of the Master of High Court’s decision to appoint Darangwa as testamentary executrix and to accept the will in question shall be sought.

I am advised that the review is in terms of Order 33 of this court’s rules and sought on grounds founded in terms of s27 of the High Court Act (7:06) as well at the common law.

We also seek that the review proceedings be prosecuted on terms to ensure expeditious resolution of the contestation involving the parties.

  1. Urgency

This matter cannot wait. It deserves the urgent attention of this court when one factors the following;

My father, my sister and I, as the surviving blood relatives of the deceased who died intestate, have a prima face right to inherit and benefit from the deceased’s estate.

We are entitled to protect our interest in the deceased’s estate in line with our constitutional right to equal benefit and protection of the law.

The document produced as the deceased’s will is a nullity as it does not meet the requirements of s8(1) and s8(5) of the Wills Act (6:06).

The testamentary executorship of Darangwa, emanating as it does from such a document, is also a nullity. All the acts of Darangwa regarding the deceased’s estate are a nullity. There is need to expeditiously stop Darangwa in her illegal tracks.

Darangwa is already in the process of permanently disposing of the deceased’s assets during and within the current national lockdown and without following due process of law, a case in point being her recent disposal of the deceased’s Lamborghini vehicle in terms of a distribution account which was neither availed to, nor approved by the Master of High Court and without a proper inventory.

The deceased’s biggest investment namely Quick Gases in Botswana, is at the risk of liquidation over a loan owing to FNB Bank, Botswana after it totally closed operations because the said bank froze the company’s account over issues respecting the legitimacy of Darangwa and who should be appointed as the signatory on the company account after the deceased’s demise.

FNB Bank, Botswana has given the family a period of only up to March 31, 2021 within which to exhaustively deal with the question of the legitimacy of the executrix and within which unquestionable signatories to the bank account as well as the company directors can be appointed.

Failure to deal with the issues highlighted is such that the company will be subjected to foreclosure and liquidation of assets by the said bank to recover the debt owing to it.

The gas business in Botswana is such that every gas company has its cylinders into which they exclusively fill gas when transacting with customers.

In other words, every company only sells gas by filling in a gas tank belonging to, every gas tank bears the colour and brand of the company from which it emanates, I have been informed by one of the company’s employees that already there are some malcontents who are mopping up the company’s branded cylinders from the customers for resale in Zimbabwe.

The end result is that if the company remains closed, by the time it reopens, its customer base will have drastically dwindled.

The company, at the time it closed operations, had more than 10 000 gas cylinders in circulation among its customers in Botswana.

Darangwa is dissipating the deceased’s estate to the permanent and irreparable prejudice of the family when her appointment as executrix by and the will she produced to the Master of High Court are both a nullity.

In any event, she never gave security to the Master of High Court for the faithful administration of the estate and she has up to now not supplied a comprehensive inventory of assets of the deceased.

The current Covid-19 national lockdown which proscribes the filing of new litigation continues to be extended with no certainty as to when exactly it will be uplifted.

In the circumstances, waiting to prosecute a review application on the ordinary roll can only be irreparably prejudicial to the family who risk losing many assets as well as inheriting a company reduced to a shell.

In the absence of a review of the Master of High Court’s decision, all the acts by Darangwa in Botswana become questionable considering that the Botswana authorities rejected the will in terms of which Darangwa was appointed testamentary executrix in Zimbabwe.

Darangwa has taken and continues to take the law into her own hands, she advertises an account during the lockdown, inviting people to come and inspect such account at the office of the Master of High Court which she knows is currently closed.

We have a reasonable apprehension of harm to our interests/rights given the circumstances explained above.

As the family, we have no other alternative remedy to protect our rights and avert the risk of dissipation of the estate and seek an expeditious review of the 2nd Respondent’s decision other than by manner of this application.

There is a real risk that in the absence of an order of this court, the 1st Respondent may continue to alienate/dispose of the deceased’s assets to our irreparable prejudice and that potential creditors.

In the circumstances, we as the family inter alia seek an interdict to stop all the acts of Darangwa regarding the deceased’s estate pending the return date to protect the estate’s assets and the interests of all persons that may have an interest therein. She cannot be trusted with the deceased’s estate.

  1. Review

I, together with the 2nd and 3rd Applicants, seek a review of the 2nd Respondent’s decision to accept the will produced by the 1st Respondent under DR No. 1771/20 as well as the decision to appoint 1st Respondent as testamentary executrix. The decision should be reviewed on the following grounds.

Illegality/Absence of Jurisdiction

I contend that the Master of High Court has no jurisdiction to accept as a will a document which was neither drafted nor executed/signed by a person who has since died (i.e the deceased); and the decision of the Master of High Court is illegal and contrary to s8(5) of the Wills Act (6:06). The decision is therefore a nullity.

Illegality

The will accepted by the Master of High Court as the deceased’s is illegal and therefore a nullity. Even if this court were to hold that the will in question is the deceased’s, a look at the minutes of the Master of High Court shows that it (the will) was personally drafted/written out by Darangwa and confers upon her (1st Respondent) and executorship benefit.

This is proscribed by s6(2)( c) as read with s6(6) of the Wills Act (6:06). Therefore all of the 2nd Respondent’s decision predicated on the said will are also a nullity.

FRAUD, SPECULATION AND MALPRACTICE

The Master of High Court, under DR1771/20, accepted as the deceased’s will a document actuated by fraud, speculation and malpractice reckoning that such document was neither drafted nor executed by the deceased, not dated, is bereft of any exclusive/confidential details.

It contains details most, if not all, of which are too generalized and were already in the public/social media domain is imprecise in many respects and in some portions contains bequests to persons of non-existent/shadowy identity.

The deceased’s estate has been rocked by maneuvers by the 1st Respondent to dispose of a part of the deceased’s estate without following due process of law.

GROSS IRREGULARITY

The Master of High Court made a grossly irregular and illegal decision of issuing Letters of Administration to and appointing as testamentary executrix, the 1st Respondent on the basis of a will that is null and void.

Such Letters of Administration should be revoked and annulled in terms of s30(1) of the Administration of Estates Act (6:01).

Just to expand on the ground I stated herein in paragraph 26.3 above, I am advised that the reason at law behind insistence on formalities prescribed in the Wills Act (6:06) is to ensure that wills are not penetrated by fraud, speculation or malpractice.

As earlier stated, the deceased was a popular figure, particularly in Zimbabwe and South Africa among other countries.

His life, business interests, names of his parents, siblings and friends, are in the public domain even up to today.

I believe that the will produced by Darangwa and accepted by the Master of High Court is actuated by fraud, speculation and malpractice for the following reasons:

..The haste with which the Darangwa is disposing of the Lamborghini (and hastily attending to anything to do with such disposal) without following due process of law leaves a lot to be desired.

It is inexplicable that Darangwa would invite creditors and debtors to inspect an account at the Master of High Court’s office regarding an asset whose disposal she has already authorized/instructed.

The will makes reference to some persons without stating their actual/official identities the deceased’s Lamborghini vehicle, arrived in Zimbabwe around 30 November September 2020.

If claims that he instructed Darangwa to draft a will are true, it is not logical that the deceased would bequeath such an expensive vehicle to a shadowy third party exactly 23 days after importing it the deceased had a fleet of expensive cars.

It is curious that none of the rest of his cars is mentioned in the will. Further, there is not even the registration number of the Lamborghini vehicle mentioned in the said will.

The lawyer always lied that she is an attorney until we recently found out that she is not. Her credibility is immediately called into question.

Darangwa never wanted to avail a copy of the will in question to us or to our legal practitioner until we got it through the Master of High Court.

The impugned decision of the Master of High Court and his appointment of the Darangwa cannot stand.

The court should declare that the deceased died intestate. He did not make/leave behind any will.

The produced will is fake. I pray it be declared null and void. I also seek revocation of Darangwa’s appointment as testamentary executrix, hence this application.

The court will notice that in the draft order we seek that this application be prosecuted on certain proposed terms.

This is so given the exigencies of this matter. We need closure within the shortest possible time also as the said moratorium of 31 March draws to a close each day that passersby.

  1. COSTS

Costs are sought on a higher scale of attorney and client should Darangwa oppose this application.

I infer that she as a professional executor ought to have known mundane law of succession that applies to the deceased’s estate.

The will she tendered to the Master of High Court is a nullity, so is her appointment as testamentary executrix.

Wrangling with the Applicants in the wake of clear and unambiguous dictates of law on the subject matter would be tantamount to abuse of court process by Darangwa and a waste of his court’s precious time.

Wherefore, I pray for an order in terms of the draft.

Own Correspondent|Controversial Masvingo- based preacher, Isaac Makomichi, has triggered social media war after literally suggesting that Zimbabwe should adopt a monarchical government and allow Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa to rule forever.

Makomichi also said Harare should be renamed after the Zanu PF leader.

Irate Zimbabweans have accused the preacher of using cheap political tactics to please Mr Mnangagwa.

In a statement released on Saturday Makomichi said:

“The country must unite and abolish elections. The budget for 2023 elections must be used to renovate hospitals and purchsse drugs.

I want Mnangagwa to become a King.I also want Harare city to be renamed after Mnangagwa- just like our airport which was renamed after Robert Mugabe.

“Heavy Downpours To Continue”: Met Department Warns Farmers

By A Correspondent- The Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has told farmers and the nation at large to expect the current heavy downpours to continue particularly to the north of the watershed.

MSD advised farmers to harvest the water to boost irrigation activities during the winter cropping season. Met Department senior forecaster Mr. James Ngoma said there will be continuous rains in most parts of the country over the weekend.

Ngoma urged the public to avoid putting protect lives during the downpours or cross any flooded rivers or streams.

He said:

Localised heavy downpours are expected especially in areas to the north of the watershed because of a passing cloud band emanating from Botswana that was giving significant falls over the southern parts of the country as of Thursday into Friday.

The country is still expecting localised heavy downpours covering Matabeleland North into northern parts of Midlands, northern parts of Masvingo, Harare Metropolitan, most of Mashonaland provinces and parts of Manicaland.

We advise the public that it is safer to be indoors during these downpours.

Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers Union president Dr Shadreck Makombe said the heavy rains were a blessing since water harvested during this time would be used during the winter cropping season.

Makombe said:

We are encouraging farmers to make trenches, ridges and contours and direct the water to the fields. This will save costs of irrigation during the winter cropping season.

Those farmers who had not planted on their fields should plough to retain the moisture.

Winter ploughing will also retain moisture for use during the summer cropping season.

Most of the country’s dams and most reservoirs are now full to the brim while some are now overflowing.

Traditionally January, February and March experience higher rainfall than the first part of the season from October to December.

ED To Announce New Lockdown Measures

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa is expected to announce new lockdown measures when the current ones imposed on 15 February expire on Monday.

The nation is expecting relaxed new lockdown measures as coronavirus cases and deaths have been going down of late.

While some stakeholders including doctors are warning against complacency, businesses have been pushing for the relaxation of the regulations to save the ailing economy and address the ever-growing humanitarian crisis.

Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Mr. George Charamba yesterday said President Mnangagwa will update the nation before the expiry of the lockdown.

He said:

He is very conscious about that.

Under the current lockdown measures, only sectors and organisations providing essential services are authorised to operate.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health and Child Care on Friday unveiled new guidelines authorising ministers and heads of local authorities to give exemptions, where necessary, for the reopening of departments under their purview

Speaking ahead of the anticipated State of the Nation Address, Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) president, Mr. Henry Ruzvidzo, said the current lockdown has resulted in market and supply chain disruptions for businesses.

He said:

The rates of infection are indeed down and can be attributed to the swift action taken in January. Our expectation is that we learn from the experience of the past few months on the major sources of risk and take measured responses going forward. It is important to ensure that the economy can rebound recognising the country’s limited capacity to bail out businesses. We expect more businesses to be allowed to resume operations. Mnangagwa Evicts 12 000 Chiredzi Villagers

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has authorized the eviction of 12 500 villagers from Chiredzi’s Chilonga village.

According to The Standard, the over 12 500 villagers from Chilonga are being forced to make way for a lucerne grass project spearheaded by a local dairy producer.

Lucerne grass, also called alfalfa, is used for making hay or animal fodder.

Dendairy, a private milk producer, is said to be eyeing approximately 10 000 hectares of arable land for the lucerne production project meant for local and international markets.

Through statutory instrument 50 of 2021 (Communal Land Setting aside of Land (Chiredzi, notice 2021), published in the Government Gazette on Friday, Local Government minister July Moyo said the land had been reserved for the grass farming project.

“The minister of Local Government, Urban and Rural Development in terms of section 10 of the Communal Land Act (Chapter 20, 04), hereby makes the following notice: This notice may be cited as the communal land (setting aside of land) (Chiredzi) notice, 2021,” reads the notice.

“The area of land described hereunder in terms of this schedule shall be set aside with effect from the date of publication of this notice for the purpose of lucerne production.

“Any person occupying or using the land specified in the schedule, otherwise than by virtue of a right held in terms of the Mines and Minerals Act (Chapter 21,05), is ordered to depart permanently with all of his or her property from the said land by the date of publication of this notice, unless he or she acquires rights of use of occupation to the said land in terms of section (9) (1) of the Communal Land Act (Chapter (20,04).”

The land that was gazetted is approximately 12 940 hectares.

Villagers had resisted the move, fearing they might suffer the same fate as 3 000 Chivi and Masvingo South villagers that were forced out of their homes during the construction of the Tugwi-Mukosi Dam.

They were dumped in Chingwizi in 2014.

The government neglected the villagers and most of them are living in squalor.

A local civic society organisation committed to the development of socio-economic rights and agrarian systems that enhance equitable land rights and distribution — Masvingo Centre for Research Advocacy and Development (Macrad) — described the looming Chiredzi evictions as ‘disastrous”.

Mugabe Nephew Reacts To Daily Maverick Report

By A Correspondent- Robert Mugabe’s nephew-in-law Adam Molai who is the co-founder and chairperson of Pacific Cigarettes Company claims his personal relationship with the late Pan Africanist caused stunted growth of his business empire.

Molai who is married to Mugabe’s nephew, Sandra said “there is a general desire to paint any African success by aligning it with some politician.”

He added:

If anything, the personal relation (with Mugabe), has been an albatross around my neck because it has culminated in this bigotry that has been a hindrance to all our business exploits.

Molai made the remarks in a YouTube video posted on February 18 while responding to a report published by South Africa’s Maverick Citizen, titled Zimbabwe Cartel Power Dynamics Report which implicated him as one of the kingpins in a multi-million dollar cigarette smuggling cartel.

The report dedicates two pages to scrutinising Molai’s company and how his personal relationship with Mugabe augmented his seemingly immune participation in the alleged illicit cigarette trade.

Reads part of the report:

The main cigarette smuggling cartels consist of 1) political bosses who allow cartels to operate with impunity, 2) transport companies that deliver cigarettes, and 3) distribution networks in South Africa.

Molai, however, scoffed at the allegations saying the report lacked logic.

He said:

This is a tired and discredited allegation that Pacific Cigarettes are the most smuggled cigarettes into South Africa. It’s a patently false allegation. Maverick relies on some obscure article where an individual was arrested carrying 150 Pacific boxes. Putting this into perspective, South Africa consumes between 270 000 to 300 000 boxes of cigarettes per annum. So how 150 boxes can be used to extrapolate and support such a ludicrous claim baffles me.

Zim Morning Post observes that contrary to Molai’s claims that his personal relationship with Mugabe was a “hindrance to all our business exploits,” it is during the late Mugabe’s reign that the company dominated the market.

During that time, Molai entered into an agreement with China Tobacco Shaanxi Industrial Corporation (CTSIC), to manufacture cigarettes for the Chinese diaspora in Africa.

Two Nabbed For Smuggling A Corpse From Mozambique

By James Gwati- Police in Chiredzi has arrested two men for allegedly smuggling a corpse into the country from Mozambique.

According to the police, the two smuggled the corpse through an illegal point at Chisuma along the border in Chipinge.

Tsengai Shate (34) of Section 6, Triangle and Jacob Mutanda (45) of Mapanza farm, Mkwasine are facing charges of violating laws of repatriation of bodies.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa, confirmed the incident.

“Sometime in 2014 Shate and his wife had relocated to Mozambique where they had acquired a piece of land but however, Shate later got a job at Triangle and would visit his family in Mozambique. On 19 February Shate received a message alerting him that his wife had died. Shate told Mutanda and other relatives who agreed on repatriating the body through the illegal crossing point.

“On 21 February at around 2 pm the relatives went to Mozambique to collect the body using a Toyota Land cruiser. In Chiredzi the duo sought to put the corpse in the mortuary and it was in narrating their story that it was discovered that they had illegally repatriated the body,” she said.

Man Impregnates Daughter, Tries To Terminate The Pregnancy

By A Correspondent – Police in Dete has arrested a 38-year-old man for allegedly raping and impregnating his 17-year-old daughter.

The (name withheld to protect the identity of the victim) is said to have taken advantage of the absence of his wife to rape his daughter without protection.
It is said that three weeks later, fearing that her daughter might be pregnant from his callous act, he bought pills which he wanted the teenager to drink and terminate the pregnancy.

The case was confirmed by Matebeleland North provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Glory Banda to the state media.

“I can confirm that we have arrested a 38-year-old male from Dete who allegedly raped and impregnated his 17-year-old daughter. Circumstances are that on an unknown date but in October last year the complainant and her sibling aged nine were sitting together with the accused person. They decided to retire to bed with the accused also going to sleep in his room. During the night the complainant woke up when she felt something on top of her,” said Insp Banda.

She said the girl, feeling sexually abused as well, pushed the person on top of her away before switching on her torch and to her shock, she noticed her father tiptoeing out of the room. On the following day, she asked her father why he had raped her, but he denied the charge.

However, three weeks later, the accused gave the complainant three pills to drink “to avoid pregnancy” and she did as instructed.

“In November 2020 the complainant told her mother about the rape and everything that had transpired while she was away. However, the matter only came to light on 8 February 2021 through an anonymous tip-off from a member of the community.

“Investigations were carried out leading to the location of the complainant who revealed the offence resulting in the accused’s arrest. The complainant is now pregnant,” said Inspector Banda.

Ginimbi Coffin Rumour Dismissed By Family

Box ra Ginimbi Rafuma RiriPanze Nhasi.

An audio message was circulated on social media last Monday morning claiming that the late socialite Genius Kadungure’s coffin has been found in the open space.

We woke up to suddenly find Ginimbi’s box in the open space, a male voice was heard announcing.

The unnamed man, went further to declare that the story is verified. They even listed several names of close family members who could attest to the report.

They made reference to a picture of a coffin that does suggest Kadungure’s coffin is out of the box.

ZimEye however checked with Ginimbi’s brother Clement, who quickly dismissed the story as untrue. He said:

“Ndezvekunyepa izvo.

“Hakuna zvakadaro kunoku– there is nothing like that here.”

He added:

“that picture is not even Zimbabwean,” he told ZimEye.

Clement is widely viewed as the family spokesperson and is cited in numerous interviews since November last year.

ZimEye also checked the picture being circulated and found it to have no convincing resemblance to the late King Of Selfies’ burial site.

Since 1982, every politician who has served as Mnangagwa’s agent from the days of the Gukurahundi-machinator, Enos Nkala, has has been dumped in the end.

Rare Tick-borne Disease Hits Auxilia Mnangagwa’s Rural Home

By James Gwati- A rare tick-borne disease has hit Chiweshe in Mashonaland Central leaving thousands of cattle dead.

Chiweshe is where the first lady Auxilia Mnangagwa comes from.

The tick-borne disease outbreak has resulted in villager selling their cattle for as low as US$50 as they fear to completly lose out.

The outbreak of Theileriosis, or January Disease, as it is also called has also been reported in some parts of the country where it has claimed thousands of cattle since the start of the year.

Shamed Binga Man Commits Suicide After Wife Caught Him Bonking A Cow

A Binga man could not stomach the shame of being caught by his wife while committing bestiality with a cow and later committed suicide while the hapless wife watched in horror.

So traumatised was the man’s wife after her husband left her in the blankets early in morning, only to quench his sex desires with a cow. As if that was not enough, the woman will forever live with the picture of her man hanging himself right in front of her eyes. In a bid to convince him to reconsider taking his life, she reportedly told him that she will keep the “secret”, but all that fell on deaf ears.

Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda confirmed the incident, describing it as a sudden death case.

“I can confirm a sudden death report involving a Binga man Joseph Tshuma from Kamwindi Village in Lusulu who hanged himself on 16 February 2021 after being caught by his wife, Senzeni Sibanda, committing bestiality with a cow. Since no foul play was suspected, a post-mortem was waived by Binga magistrate,” she said.

However, villagers in Kamwindi are still in shock. According to villagers, on the day, the 61-year-old Tshuma left his wife in bed at around 6am pretending to be going to check on his cattle in the kraal near the homestead.

While at the kraal, the man allegedly tied one of the cows on a pole and committed bestiality. Instinctively, his wife also decided to follow him ostensibly to check on one of the bulls which was sick the previous day. Villagers said when she got to the kraal, she almost collapsed after seeing her husband sexually abusing the animal.

“When Tshuma saw his wife, he just froze and could not even master the energy to say a word. The wife, unsure of how her husband will react, rushed back to the house in disbelief,” said a villager who refused to be named.

It is said Tshuma out of shame, removed the rope that he was tying the cow with and shouted to his wife that he was going to hang himself. When she heard the threat, the wife rushed back to the kraal and started pleading with her husband not to kill himself, promising him that she will keep the incident a secret.

However, it is said Tshuma had already tied the rope around his neck and fastened it to a tree branch near the kraal. Upon realising that her husband would not budge, she started shouting for help from neighbours. However, before neighbours could arrive, Tshuma hung himself while his wife watched in disbelief.

It is said she tried to climb the tree with the hope of cutting the rope but failed and all she could do was to watch the last moments of her husband. When villagers later arrived, Tshuma was already lifeless, a source close to the family said.

Former ZBC CEO In Fake Qualifications Scandal

Suspended Former ZBC Acting CEO, Wisdom Hombarume has been exposed for allegedly masquerading as an engineer after obtaining qualifications from an unaccredited institution.

This came out during court proceedings in which Hombarume is challenging suspension of payment of his salary and benefits.

Hombarume was suspended with benefits in July last year after being arrested on allegations of fraud involving a business trip to Botswana.

ZBC, however, discovered that he was employed based on qualifications he allegedly obtained from an unaccredited institution in Pakistan and thus suspended his salary and benefits in February this year pending finalisation of the matter.

According to the Zimbabwe Council of Higher Education (ZIMCHE), the University from which Hombarume allegedly obtained his qualifications is not recognised in Zimbabwe.

While Hombarume through his lawyer Josias Mandevere says the suspension of his salary and benefits is illegal, ZBC represented by Scanleen and Holderness argued that the move was based on a new matter of misrepresentation regarding his qualifications.

Mr Evans Moyo who is representing ZBC argued that Hombarume approached the court with material non-disclosure as he did not give the court full details on why his salary and benefits were suspended.
The court heard that there are two matters that must be treated separately, hence the latest move to suspend his salary and benefits must stand.

High Court Judge Justice David Mangota is expected to rule on the matter on Tuesday next week.

Meanwhile, former Cabinet Minister Ignatius Chombo has been granted bail and ordered to continue following bail conditions imposed on his other previous corruption related cases.

Chombo, who was arrested on Monday, is facing allegations of fraud and criminal abuse of office.

He will be back in court on the 12th of next month.

Mnangagwa Using Persuasive And Coercive Methods To Woo MDC Alliance Members To Join Zanu PF

President Emmerson Mnangagwa will entice MDC Alliance senior officials into joining Zanu PF using various persuasive and even coercive instruments as he seeks to weaken his main rival Nelson Chamisa ahead of the 2023 elections, observers say.

Nearly three years ago, Mnangagwa got a major fright after Chamisa nearly beat him to the presidency in a fiercely contested election.

The MDC Alliance did not accept the result of the polls, arguing they were rigged and this created serious friction between the ruling party and the opposition.

Mnangagwa has been accused of using state institutions and abusing the law to disable the MDC Alliance.

The defection of MDC Alliance deputy treasurer general Lillian Timveos to Zanu PF last week brought a new dimension to the political battle between the ruling party leader and Chamisa.

A senior MDC Alliance official said they were aware that several party officials, especially those recalled from Parliament by MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora, were being enticed to join Zanu PF.

Some of the legislators that lost their seats barely two years into their terms are said to have become vulnerable because Parliament was their only source of income.

“They are then approached and offered money, jobs and assistance to retain cars,” said the official.

“They are supposed to pay tax to the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority and most of them do not have the money to do so.

“If they are offered tax exemptions in return for dumping Chamisa, most of them will fall into the trap.”

It has since emerged that the MDC Alliance tried to convince Timveos not to dump the opposition party after senior Zanu PF officials started enticing her to join the ruling party.

This was after she was allegedly spotted at a hotel in Gweru in the company of Midlands Provincial minister Larry Mavima and Local Government minister July Moyo.

Chamisa is said to have sent a party official to talk to her about her decision.

Timveos reportedly telephoned the MDC Alliance leader assuring him that she would not join Zanu PF.

Zanu PF spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo, however, refuted allegations that the party had a strategy being executed at the highest levels to ground Chamisa.

“That is not our agenda,” Khaya Moyo said. “We are concentrating on building unity in the country. Also focus is on the devastating Covid-19 pandemic and also on the economy.

“We don’t have time to discuss individuals.

“Remember when they defected, (Timveos and Chebundo) met the president and they told him the reasons why they defected.

“The reasons they proffered are far from what they are talking about.”

Khaya Moyo added:  “Why do people not believe the reasons they said made them join Zanu PF?

“As a party, we welcome them because we saw that their reasons are sound.

“We don’t have reason to splash money to lure anyone to come to the party or destroy the opposition.

“We are a majority party with two- thirds majority in Parliament. We are not that kind of party, which uses money.”

MDC Alliance deputy spokesperson Clifford Hlatywayo said they were aware that Zanu PF wants to degrade Chamisa’s influence ahead of the elections.

“It is not an accusation; we are just stating what is happening on the ground,” Hlatywayo said.

“They are afraid of president Nelson Chamisa and the MDC Alliance.

“They have been unsuccessfully trying to make sure that they destroy the person of our president and the party MDCA.

“Our party is rooted in people’s hearts. They will not succeed.”

He said the Supreme Court ruling in March last year, which declared Chamisa an illegitimate leader, was another Zanu PF plot to force the recall of MPs and councillors in the hope of weakening him.

COVID-19 Vaccination Programme Continues To Record Low Numbers

By A Correspondent| Front line workers continue to shun COVID-19 vaccination if the numbers being recorded everyday are anything to go by.

Since the launch of the vaccination programme by vice President Constantino Chiwenga more than a week ago, only 15705 frontline workers have taken the jab averaging about 2000 per day.

Zimbabwe received 200 000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines from China with another 200 000 expected from the Eastern giant.

India and Russia have also chipped in with 75 000 and 25 000 respectively taking the total number to 500 000 doses sufficient to inoculate 250 000.

Despite government prioritising frontline workers and the availability of enough if not excess doses for the initial group, uptake seems to be a big challenge.

The vaccination program has been met with stiff resistance and suspicion from Zimbabweans due to a lot of misinformation circulating on social media.

Despite Chiwenga taking the vaccine to help allay fears in people, it has done too little to change perceptions.

And this could be a signal of the need for government to change strategy before they begin rollout to the larger population.

Just yesterday, only 3126 frontline workers were inoculated across the country.

Government is targeting a Head immunity of 10 million people before they can declare victory over the deadly disease that has claimed millions of lives globally.

Social Media Reacts As Mwonzora Bags ZWL$30 Million From Govt For Political Party Funding

By A Correspondent- Zimbabweans took to social media to express their views on the recently availed Political Parties Fund that was given to ZANU PF and MDC Alliance.

Although it is written the MDC Alliance has to receive the money, the money is not going to the party led by Nelson Chamisa but to MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora.

MDC-T claims that they are part of the 7-party MDC Alliance that was formed in 2017 for the purposes of 2018 harmonised elections therefore they are entitled to receive the money.

MDC-T and MDC Alliance have for years been fighting over ownership of MDC name, logo, and properties. The wrangle spilled into the courts which ruled that MDC Alliance was not a party and reinstated MDC’s 2014 structures as the temporary caretaker of the party.

Responding to the disbursement of the funds, Alex Tawanda Magaisa, the former Chief of Staff in the office of the late former Prime Minister, Morgan Tsvangirai said:

General Notice 244 of 2021 says ZWL30 million is due to the MDC-Alliance, which is correct because it contested the elections. But this money is being given to the MDC-T led by Mwonzora. Why is the MDC Alliance not fighting this nonsense?

MDC Alliance activist, Pedzisai Ruhanya said the development shows that MDC-T is a ZANU PF proxy.

He tweeted:

ZANU PF and MDC-T agreed that MDC-T is MDC Alliance @nelsonchamisa and they are giving the money to @DMwonzora despite the known votes and seats won by MDC-T in 2018. There is no fraud that beats this. Thats why we say MDC-T is captured by ZANU PF. Its a puppet political party

MDC Alliance Secretary-General, Chalton Hwende the move was meant to cripple MDC Alliance.

He said:

The law correctly says the money is due to MDC Alliance but @MthuliNcube will give it to Mwonzora because @edmnangagwa has decided. Using our own funds to undermine us pathetic

One Chabva weighed in:Maybe Komichi is not so wrong to say MDC Alliance is theirs because surely if they can be given money that is clearly stated is for MDC Alliance based on last election performance, what can that mean.Professor Mlambo said even if it was true that the money belonged to an amalgamation of parties, MDC-T was not giving the money to other members of the coalition.

He said:

Using Mwonzora camp’s reasoning, their MDC-T is receiving the money on behalf of the MDC Alliance (alliance of 7 parties). However, there is no proof that they have disbursed any of the money received to other parties such as PDP or MDC-N! MDC-T is stealing from Alliance!Atmos Gwabada suggested that the party led by Nelson Chamisa needs to seriously consider rebranding and adopting a new name

Allan Moyo Who Spend 72 Days In Detention Speaks On Prison Experience

By A Correspondent- University of Zimbabwe (UZ) student leader Allan Moyo says conditions in Zimbabwe’s prisons are deplorable, with a single cell packed with 80 people and some inmates contracting COVID-19.

The 23-year-old was held in pre-trial detention at Harare Central Prison for 70 days after the State repeatedly denied him bail.

Speaking during an interview with The NewsHawks this week, Moyo revealed the sorry conditions in the country’s correctional facilities.

He said:

It is not a romantic affair staying in the prison cells. We had cellmates who contracted COVID-19 and it was scary for some of us.

There were 80 people in a cell and because we were packed, no social distancing was observed. It was terrible.

Moyo said prison guards refused to allow his family to provide him with sanitiser and detergent during his inceration and he also had to share a cell with mental health patients.

He said:

My family bought sanitiser and detergent, but they were not allowed inside. It was by no means a pleasant affair at all.

Living with mental patients is difficult, it was torturous to the body to stay in that prison for that long.

Moyo said he came face to face with the reality of Zimbabwe’s incompetent and captured judicial system as his imprisonment turned from days to months.

He said the solidarity of his comrades and the love of his family kept him going.

Moyo is facing charges of inciting public violence after he allegedly addressed commuters at a bus rank in Harare last year, calling for a violent revolt against President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Man Caught By Wife Raping A Cow, Commits Suicide.

A man from Binga could not stomach the shame of being caught by his wife while committing bestiality with a cow and later committed suicide while the hapless wife watched in horror.

The wife, unsure of how her husband will react, rushed back to the house in disbelief,” said a villager who refused to named.

-Sunday News

“SA Lacks Will to Rescue Zimbabwe” – As We Lack Common Sense to Rescue Ourselves

Cyril Ramaphosa

Dear Tendai Dumbutshena

Thank you very much for yet another informative and thought provoking article, “SA lacks the will to rescue Zimbabwe.”

“But hope springs eternal. Giving up is not an option. The conscious elements of society must lead the struggle to change how the country is governed. All hands on deck. Civil society organisations, political parties, churches, youth formations and other stakeholders have a responsibility to fight for a country they can be proud to call their own. All this must be done with a clear understanding that change can only come from within Zimbabwe. Those foreigners of goodwill will take their cue from what Zimbabweans themselves do. Beware of envoys from Pretoria who come bearing gifts,” you said.

I do agree that hope springs eternal and that, if we are ever to get out of this mess, we must look to ourselves first and foremost and then look to the West. There will be no help coming from SADC, particularly from SA; not now.

The Chinese are the hidden nation banished in the dark ages back to wreck vengeance galore on Zimbabwe. The Chinese are the shadowy figure, the real power behind the Zanu PF dictatorship. Our fight for democratic change is not just against Zanu PF but, more significantly, against the mighty of the Chinese who are determined to keep Zanu PF in power come hell or high water for their own selfish economic advantage!

Our fight for democratic change is therefore going to be a tough one and to have an hope of victory, we must be tough and focused. To start with, we must be frank and honest about our own strengths and weaknesses.

“The putative unity government his (Thabo Mbeki) mediation yielded enabled Zanu-PF to outmanoeuvre a gullible MDC and reassert its dominance. With Zanu-PF now firmly in the saddle and the situation in the country “stable” the ANC is happy with the outcome,” you argued.

“To be fair to the much-maligned Zuma, when he took over the role of mediator in 2009, he mandated his two envoys to Zimbabwe to push for the creation of conditions for free and fair elections after the expiry of the unity government. That this did not happen was the fault of the unity government dominated by Zanu-PF, with the two MDC parties coopted as impotent junior partners.”

There were many things one could have done to improve Zimbabwe’s 2008 to 2013 GNU; I admit it. However, there was still a lot the GNU could and should have accomplished, most notably it could and should have implemented the raft of democratic reforms agreed in the 2008 Global Political Agreement.

Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC colleagues failed to implement even one token reform in five years of the GNU because they were corrupt and breathtakingly incompetent. By participating in flawed and illegal 2013 elections and all the elections thereafter MDC leaders and the rest in the opposition camp are giving credibility to the flawed election process and thus giving legitimacy to the vote rigging Zanu PF. Proof the failure to implement the reforms was not just a one off gaff by a gullible opposition.

What is more, the MDC leaders know participating in the flawed elections was wrong but did it anywhere out of greed as David Coltart, MDC A Treasurer General and Minister of Education in the GNU, admitted.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the (2013) elections,” wrote Senator Coltart.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

What Coltart should have admitted that SADC leaders had warned him and his fellow MDC leaders of the folly of participated in the 2013 elections with no reforms. “If you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done!” SADC leaders had warned.

Tsvangirai and company ignored SADC leaders’ advice and they would not do what they readily admit was “the obvious – withdraw from the elections” because they were after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF giving away a bait.

Of course, SADC leaders had no choice but to accept the vote rigging Zanu PF as the de facto government. What else could they have done after MDC leaders had ignored their warning!

As we speak Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A, Douglas Mwonzora and his MDC-T and all the other opposition politicians are all gearing to participate in the coming 2023 elections; they are all fully aware Zanu PF has not implemented even one token reform. Not one!

Like it or not Chamisa and his fellow opposition politicians claim that they are fighting for democracy and good governance on behave of the long suffering Zimbabweans. One is compelled to accept this foolishness, in the absence of a convincing counter narrative showing MDC leaders are corrupt, incompetent and sell-outs whose actions in the past and present are undermining the fight for reforms and democracy.

MDC leaders have long stopped fighting for democratic reforms and free, fair and credible elections. We need to stay it loud and clear so that the ordinary Zimbabweans who continue to follow MDC leaders like sheep to the slaughter understand it and stop.

The demand to implement the democratic reform BEFORE the next elections is frontline in the fight for freedom and human rights in Zimbabwe. Zanu PF is not going to implement any reforms because the party is confident the MDC leaders will participate in the elections and thus earning Zanu PF the de facto legitimacy. Our contour move is to make sure MDC leaders have no political credibility, if they ever again participate in flawed and illegal elections.

If the MDC were once upon a time the nation’s champions in the fight for democracy and good governance, it is now clear that they now have a separate agenda – they are after the few gravy train seats Zanu PF is offering as bait.

Our failure to accept MDC leaders are corrupt and incompetent has been one of our greatest weakness in our fight for a democratic Zimbabwe ever since the disastrous failure by MDC leaders to implement even one reform during the GNU!

Accepting MDC leaders are not the heroes and heroines we believed them to be is a bitter pill to swallow. Swallowing our misplace trust and blind loyalty will mean the nation stepping back from the brink!

Frankly we should have learned of the dangers of blind loyalty after seeing what became of the Zanu PF libration war heroes and heroines once they got into power. Of course, we have been blind not to see Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends for what they really are – corrupt, incompetent and sell-out – all these years! We must do so now!

“SA lacks the will to rescue Zimbabwe!” True but whether or not we have the will to rescue ourselves, depends on us opening our eyes and minds and finally admit to ourselves that MDC leaders are not going to rescue us.

Mnangagwa To Announce New Lockdown Measures…

THE current Level Four national lockdown lapses tomorrow with President Mnangagwa expected to announce new ordinances to balance the reopening of the economy and mitigating against further spread of Covid-19.

Since the current lockdown measures announced on February 15, the country has recorded a marked decrease in deaths and confirmed coronavirus cases, but observers warn that the country cannot afford to lower its guard as a third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic remains a possibility.

Deputy Chief Secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet Mr George Charamba yesterday said President Mnangagwa will update the nation before the expiry of the lockdown.

“He is very conscious about that,” Mr Charamba, who is also Presidential spokesperson, said.

On Friday, the Ministry of Health and Child Care unveiled new guidelines authorising ministers and heads of local authorities to give exemptions, where necessary, for the reopening of departments under their ambit.

The guidelines, which are contained in Statutory Instrument 49 of 2021, are an amendment to Statutory Instrument 200 of 2020.

Part of SI 49 reads: “. . . (d) every Government establishment, and every local authority, shall be closed except to the extent directed by — (i) the responsible head of the Ministry or head of that establishment; or (ii) the mayor or chairperson or chief executive officer of the local authority concerned”- State media

June Exams Going Ahead, Says Minister

Cain Mathema

The Government has assured learners that this year’s Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council (Zimsec) June examinations will go ahead, noting the need for the education sector to adjust to the reality of Covid-19.
Schools in the country have remained closed for the first term after Government implemented a Level Four national lockdown, where only examination writing students were allowed back at school in January to complete their November national examinations.

Speaking during a press conference to announce the new Zimsec board last Wednesday, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Cde Cain Mathema said despite schools having not yet opened for the first term, June examinations will go ahead as planned. He said it was inevitable that schools will eventually open for the first term and there will be implementation of a workplan that will see teachers preparing learners for all the scheduled examinations.

“What we have to accept is that Covid-19 is now a part of society and it is there to stay, therefore there is a need to ensure that all our programmes go ahead as scheduled and not allow Covid-19 to hinder us. It is therefore with this in mind that we say the June examinations will indeed go ahead as scheduled. When schools open there will be a clear schedule that will allow learners to adequately prepare for these exams,” said Minister Mathema.

He said there could be a slight shift of the examination dates to allow for adequate preparations for the students. The minister said they will soon be advising parents and learners on the planned dates, examination fees and deadlines for the payment of the examination fees.

Meanwhile, Minister Mathema said the ministry was working with all relevant stakeholders — inclusive of Zimsec and teachers’ unions — to ensure the smooth sailing of the school calendar.

“We are all ready and have put in place all the necessary preparations for the opening of schools and holding of the examinations. Our teams are busy as we speak, on the ground monitoring that all schools have in place the necessary measures to allow them to operate following the necessary Covid-19 protocols. The teachers’ unions have also assured us that teachers are also ready to go back to the classrooms therefore we can safely say that all is in place for the opening of schools for the first term, we are just waiting for guidance from President Mnangagwa regarding the Covid-19 lockdown measures, which will give us an idea on the actual opening dates,” said the minister.

Government continues to issue personal protective equipment and sanitisers to schools to ensure that when the date of reopening is announced, the schools’ environment will be safe for teachers, staff, parents and pupils.

Last week teams from the ministry were in Bulawayo to assess the readiness of schools in the province to reopen in line with Covid-19 prevention protocols. The ministry has in place standard operating procedures for all schools to protect learners, teachers and ancillary staff from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Meanwhile, Government has recruited 3000 teachers ahead of the opening of schools for the first term. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education said apart from the new teachers, it has also approved 600 lateral transfers to Harare and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces. Among the new recruitments, specialist teachers in the indigenous languages of Shangani, Tonga, Venda and Nambya were also employed as Government moves to affirm its position on the teaching of indigenous languages.

This comes as the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development has also stepped-up efforts to the training of teachers to specialise in indigenous languages at various institutions in the country.

Director of communications in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Taungana Ndoro told Sunday News that more recruitments will be done when the Ministry assesses the situation prevailing at schools. According to a number of circulars sent to provincial education offices, the Ministry reportedly employed 1 940 infant teachers, 760 teachers for junior level, 261 teachers for secondary and 39 teachers for advanced level. -Sunday News

South Africa Gives Up On R37 Million Beitbridge Border Fence

The R37m 40km fence built along the border of SA and Zimbabwe will not be repaired despite the recommendations of the standing committee on public accounts (Scopa) – because it’s just not worth it.

This was according to a response on Friday by minister of public works and infrastructure, Patricia de Lille, to questions by the National Assembly.

The controversial 1.8m tall fence – jokingly referred to as the “washing line” because of its poor quality and the ease with which it can be breached – consists of six rolls of coiled razor wire and a razor wire grid erected over three weeks by Magwa Construction.

The company was carrying out maintenance work at the Beitbridge border post when the national lockdown was declared in late March.

In May, De Lille told MPs that the fence had been up barely a day before it was breached.

On April 20, she had requested an investigation by the auditor-general and five days later asked the public works anti-corruption unit to investigate, assisted by SIU members seconded to the department.

De Lille said an accounting officer had performed a detailed technical condition assessment of the fence and the outcome was found to be against the recommendations of Scopa – which was to rectify all physical defects in the fence “in line with all applicable regulations”.

“As the fence, in its current form, is not fit for purpose and in material non-compliance with the specifications, the department has taken a decision not to entertain the possibility of any further repairs of the fence.

“Any further border fence initiatives will be located in the context of the integrated border management solution under way. In this regard, the site clearance process is aimed at being completed by June this year.”

The controversial R37m fence on the border between SA and Zimbabwe.

But the department had requested that the vetting files be a top priority at the State Security Agency (SSA).

“The department is further seeking legal advice as to whether the conduct of the respective companies in relation to the Beitbridge contract constitutes sufficient grounds to seek termination of their remaining contracts with the department. The matter is under legal review.”

Man Impregnates Own Daughter

A father straight from hell. This can aptly describe a man from Dete in Hwange who has been arrested for allegedly raping and impregnating his 17-year-old daughter.
Police confirmed the arrest of the 38-year-old father (name withheld to protect identity of the victim) who took advantage of the absence of his wife to rape his daughter without protection. Three weeks later, fearing that her daughter might be pregnant from his callous act, he bought pills which he wanted the teenager to drink and terminate the pregnancy.

Matabeleland North provincial police spokesperson Inspector Glory Banda said the man was arrested last week.

During the course of the night the complainant woke up when she felt something on top of her,” said Insp Banda.

She said the girl, feeling sexually abused as well, pushed the person on top of her away before switching on her torch and to her shock, she noticed her father tiptoeing out of the room. On the following day she asked her father why he had raped her, but he denied the charge.

Investigations were carried out leading to the location of the complainant who revealed the offence resulting in the accused’s arrest. The complainant is now pregnant,” said Inspector Banda. -Sunday News

Nation Shall Be Transformed By Givers- President Chamisa

Tinashe Sambiri|Zimbabwe needs transformational leaders who are givers not takers, MDC Alliance leader, President Nelson Chamisa has said.

There are two types types of leaders who hold public office, givers and takers, according to President Chamisa.

The MDC Alliance leader has also indicated that he is unmoved by the defection of Senator Lilian Timveos and Hon Blessing Chebundo to Zanu PF.

Writing on Twitter President Chamisa, blasted selfish and leaders corrupt leaders:

“It has dawned on me that public office is accessed by two different types of leaders; those who are in it for what they can give and those who are in it for what they can take.

Transformational leaders are givers not takers.

Zimbabwe shall be transformed by givers.

Man Impregnates Physically Challenged Girl

VILLAGERS in Ndapfunya Village under Chief Makoni’s have come out guns blazing as they demand justice for a physically challenged teenager who was allegedly raped and impregnated by a 51-year-old villager last year in September.

The police have said the net is closing on the culprit, Shingirai Rundoro.

A neighbour, Tiriwashe Ndapfunya, said Rundoro needs to be convicted.

“My heart is bleeding because I am a parent who also have children to care for. The teenager who was raped is being looked after by her visually impaired father and poor mother. She is only 18-years-old.

“Rundoro took advantage of her disability and raped her. If he loved her like he wants people to believe, why did he disappear after committing the offence?” said Ndapfunya.

Another villager, Chido Bverekwa, called on organisations that advocates for the rights of the girl child and people living with disabilities to intervene and assist the teen and her family.

“This girl’s family is in dire need of assistance,” she said.

Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda, confirmed the incident, saying Rundoro vanished soon after committing the crime last year.

“We have heard of the case and investigations are in progress. Sometime in September last year, the accused lifted the teenager from her wheelchair and raped her twice on different occasions during the same month, taking advantage of her vulnerability. Her mother had left her unattended when she was abused. It seems the accused knew that the teenager was alone and pounced on her,” he said.

“We are investigating the matter and the accused is still on the run. We are appealing to members of the public with information leading to the arrest of the accused to contact their nearest police station,” said Inspector Chananda.- Manica Post

Hon Biti Denounces Persecution Of Mako By Government Agents

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC MDC Alliance vice president, Hon Tendai Biti has denounced the persecution of human rights activist Makomborero Haruvizishe by Mr Mnangagwa’s administration.

Writing on Twitter, Hon Biti called for the immediate release of Makomborero Haruvizishe.

“Makomborero Haruzivishe is a national treasure.A quite humble intelligent articulate and brave compatriot.

He has been brutalized by the regime throughout his life including multiple expulsions from University. He is not a criminal. Please do the right thing&let him go home #FreeMako.”

On the deepening economic crisis Hon Biti wrote:

“Zimbabwe has an unsustainable debt level that is putting huge premium on development Resolving debt crisis key in unlocking development funds in #IFIs. At least Chinamasa had his ill fated Lima Plan. Post coup regime has no desire or plan to tackle debt.Lacks any will for reforms.

Article IV Report was an effective write off for Zim.A pariah regime incapable of reform. Besides illegitimacy & toxic politics it is regime s inextricable symbiosis with corruption & capture that has killed any prospect of another #SMP & engagement with #IFIs.”

Rentals Now A Nightmare For Citizens

Zimbabwe urban house rentals now very expensive

The United Nations predicts that by 2050 ,seventy percent of the
population in Africa will be living in urban areas hence there will be many
challenges ,risks as well as opportunities which comes with the
urbanization.

All of a sudden the rentals in urban areas particularly in
Harare have become a nightmare.

Landlords/landladies should
charge affordable rentals as this will result in the positive development
for economic growth and stability.

The Estate Agents Council of Zimbabwe should play a fundamental
obligation to protect the citizens from unscrupulous landlords and bogus
agents who are robbing people daily.

We need to come up with realistic
valuation of rentals while contemplating on the vitally important factors.A
systematic approach must be implemented especially in Harare whereby
the government and the relevant stakeholders ought to set rental
benchmarks.

The rentals prices are increasing every month
due to the greediness by landlords and lack of principles to be adhered.

Be
that as it may, this exponentially rise in rentals is not triggered by the
shortage of the houses in Harare since many people are building their own
houses.

Most people are in dire situation because their disposable income is being
heavily eroded by the rentals and the cost of living is escalating on monthly
basis.

Lets have a collective engagement and consider the Rent Act in
Zimbabwe.

Thousands and thousands of people are losing their hard
earned income through the illegal agents who are charging exorbitant
prices of 50usd before viewing a property and you will surely have the
shock of your life to discover a fowl run instead of an habitable
house.Eventually the search will end in vain and agony.

In some of the areas around Harare, the agents are teaming up with the
landlords and develop a strong rapport to an extent of obtaining a kickback
without the knowledge of the tenant for instance a full house in Southerton
might costs an average price of 300usd,the agent top up another 100usd
and equates at 400usd per month.

This unregistered agent will get 100usd
per month without the sweaty equity.

The registered estates agents have been cornered by the unlicensed
agents and the market is now congested.

Innovative young entrepreneurs
need to think outside the box and bring up a sophisticated and disruptive
system proposition which tracks illegal real estate agents to protect the
local property rental market.Uncounted real estate frauds cases are being
reported every day at police across Harare and other cities.

I am just a microphone of the innocent people who are wailing and grieving
without consolation. It is my utmost request for the relevant stakeholders to
take some steps towards the addressing of these problems.

  • Hwende has secretly approached Mwonzora for a deal to secure a car.

But where we want to take the party forward is we want loads of positions that people can scamble for to win, rather than going to an election because we know if one person of such and such a faction, if they win the whole slate, isn’t it you know what happens at congress? The whole slate of that person is the one that enters. So sometimes it is not worth it so the most important thing is to secure your slate first and then you will fight for your position later. Which position? The one at the party level, but as of now, we are looking at national interests. Do you see now? Politics at the national level rather than at a party level so that is where we are. | FULL STORY ON WWW.ZIMEYE.COM

Lower Gweru Woman Fatally Assaults 8yr Old Daughter With Sjambok

A mother from Lower Gweru, Midlands Province has been arrested for allegedly fatally assaulting her eight-year-old daughter with a sjambok after she went to play with her friends at a neighbour’s homestead.

According to police, the incident happened in Matshaya Village, Chief Sogwala in Lower Gweru, on Wednesday afternoon.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said Maria Ruhwizhi (38) assaulted her daughter with a whip all over her body resulting in her death. Said Mahoko:

Police are investigating a murder case in which an eight-year-old girl died after being assaulted by her mother.

The now deceased girl was assaulted by her mother Maria Ruhwizhi who used a black leather sjambok on her all over her body.

Insp Mahoko urged parents to desist from using too much force when disciplining their children as this leads to unnecessary loss of life.

In another development, a Grade 4 pupil at Peakmine Primary School in Shurugwi was electrocuted on Monday evening when he opened a cage to feed chicks. Electricity was connected to give light to the chicks.

Insp Mahoko said Kupakwashe Chakanyuka, from Shurugwi, was electrocuted when he tried to open the cage.-statemedia

ED Spends Over R2m Rands On Galvanising Mbuya Nehanda Statue

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government spent over two million Rand on galvanising the Mbuya Nehanda statue currently under construction in central Harare.

The material was imported from South Africa around November last year. The cost of the galvanised steel and transporting it to Harare cost an estimated US$100 000.

According to a leaked letter written by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) responding to a request by the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works for a duty-free exemption certificate and dated 17 November 2020, the galvanised steel weighed 64 tonnes.

The letter read:

REQUEST FOR A DUTY-FREE EXEMPTION CERTIFICATE FOR CONSTRUCTION WORKS: MBUYA NEHANDA STATUE

It is hereby certified that the undermentioned consumption materials and […] goods are specifically for use by the Zimbabwe CRSG Construction Pvt Limited and are also provided for in terms of Statutory Instrument Number 154 of 2001, Part XIII subsection 114G of the Customs and excise and in terms of Section 137 of the Customs and Excise (General Regulations). Accordingly, a duty-free certificate for the following is granted…

The Local Government Ministry was granted permission to import galvanised steel weighing 64 000kgs valued at 2 184 575.44 Rand.

Penhalonga Woman Initiates Over 20 Minors Into Satanism

By A Correspondent- A 22 year old local resident of Acacia, Penhalonga, is alleged to have initiated at least 25 children into a Satanic cult.

The woman allegedly befriends the children before luring them into the occult world.

Last week a 12-year-old girl fell into a trance and declared that she and 25 other children in the area had been initiated into Satanism by the woman (name withheld).

The 12-year girl reportedly slithered like a snake when an alleged evil spirit manifested through her.

A few minutes before the manifestation, the minor physically attacked her father who sought to restrain her from visiting their neighbour’s residence.

Speaking to The Manica Post, the child’s father, (name withheld to protect the identity of the minor), narrated what had happened to her daughter.

He said:

My child went to play at our neighbour’s house and when she came back, she was behaving weirdly.

She was putting on different clothes from the ones she had gone wearing. When I asked our neighbour to return my daughter’s clothes, she refused to surrender them.

I even visited our neighbour to collect the clothes, but I was told that she had soaked them. I demanded to be given the wet clothes.

That night my daughter was making strange sounds. She was also telling us hard to believe stories of how she was now part of our neighbour’s Satanic cult.

She claimed that our neighbour is the queen of the cult, while 25 other minors from our neighbourhood are the maids.

She says during one of their meetings, our neighbour instructed her to kill me or one of her brothers.

Two other girls in the same neighbourhood reportedly had similar manifestations and accused the same woman of recruiting them into the occult.

A local resident, Emilio Magaso said the woman was not new to controversy and they had long suspected that she had a mermaid spirit.

However, the alleged Satanist denied the allegations during an interview with The Manica Post.

She said the families who accused her of Satanism were jealousy of her and that was why the children were having weird experiences.

ED Woes Mount

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government is struggling to raise US$1.75 billion to compensate former commercial white farmers who lost their farms under the land reform programme, Business Times reports.

Under the agreement signed at State House in July last year, Zimbabwe agreed to pay US$3.5 billion as compensation to former commercial white farmers for improvements made on the land before it was compulsorily acquired at the turn of the Millenium.

The agreement says that the government has to pay half of the US$3.5 billion as a deposit five months from now, and the balance is to be paid in four-year instalments of US$437.5m per year.

Zimbabwe had planned to raise the amount by issuing a bond in the international capital markets to raise US$3.5 billion but this has not happened.

Speaking to Business Times, Commercial Farmers Union of Zimbabwe (CFU) president Andrew Pascoe said they haven’t received any money from the government.

He said:

In terms of money, no payment has been done to date and we are not sure if the US$1.75bn can come through within the agreed time frame.

We will see how it goes in the next few months and seek the government’s audience on the way forward.

We are still negotiating with the government over a number of issues in the agreement and no lasting solution has been reached.

Economist John Robertson said it would be difficult for the government to raise the US$1.75 billion between now and the end of July this year as the country is under a huge debt burden, has a high import bill and is failing to capacitate farmers, manufacturers and miners.

He  said:

The raising of bonds implies a promise to repay and it is likely that the country won’t get support until we carry out reforms to restore our productive capacity. We have no way of repaying new debts when the existing debts are beyond us.

Meanwhile, the publication said it failed to get a comment from Finance minister, Mthuli Ncube, and permanent secretary, George Guvamatanga as their mobile numbers were not picked when called.

Lands, Agriculture, Water, Fisheries and Rural Settlement Minister, Anxious Masuka referred all questions to the ministry’s permanent secretary, John Basera, whose mobile phone also went unanswered.

Learners Dropping Out Of School Due To Pregnancy Increase

By A Correspondent- The number of learners falling pregnant and dropping out of school is increasing despite the existence of the Education Amendment Act, a law that allows pregnant girls to continue with their normal schooling activities.

The trend is more prevalent among pupils sitting for ‘O’ and ‘A’ level examinations but of late, girls from as young as Grade 7 are getting pregnant.

Speaking in the National Assembly recently, Priscilla Misihairabwi-Mushonga, who is the Primary and Secondary Education Parliamentary Portfolio Committee chairperson, revealed that the numbers are increasing and in some cases doubling.

She said: It was estimated that the cases had more than doubled and follow-ups on these cases had not yielded positive results as parents felt that once a child is pregnant, they have no educational future.

… At Magwegwe High, almost every child that the Committee interacted with knew of a colleague that was pregnant.

At Bondamakare High School, about 10 girls got married. At Bosbury Primary School, 2 grade seven pupils got pregnant and dropped out of school.

Last year some civic society organisations petitioned Parliament to put in place laws that would allow children to access contraceptives.

The move was reportedly meant to prevent teen pregnancies and sexually transmitted diseases among others.

However, the idea is not universally acceptable considering that Zimbabwe is a conservative and deeply religious nation.

In 2015, similar efforts were made under the banner of ‘Condomise Zimbabwe’ but were flatly rejected by parents.

Musona Assures Fans He Will Be Available For AFCON Qualifiers

Knowledge Musona’s availability for the Warriors’ Afcon Qualifiers against Botswana and Zambia in late March has for the past weeks been in doubt following an ankle injury sustained in January.

The Warriors captain is still out of action and recently started light training.

Despite the situation, he was included in the preliminary squad for the games announced on Thursday but coach Zdravko Logarusic pointed out that the forward could still be withdrawn from the selection if he fails to recover in time.

The 30-year old, however, is optimistic he will return to full fitness before the qualifiers and be available for national duty next month.

Responding to some of his followers on Twitter who had asked when he is returning to action, Musona didn’t give the time frame but said he will be available for the games against Botswana and Zambia.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

COVID-19 And Chronic Diseases: The Facts

We Will Never Abandon The People- Advocate Mahere

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance national spokesperson, Advocate Fadzayi Mahere has said joining the evil Zanu PF regime is not a progressive option.

According to Advocate Mahere, the MDC Alliance will never abandon the people.

“Crossing party floors is the democratic right of any politician or citizen.

But a floor we will never cross as the MDC Alliance is the floor that leaves the people behind.

We will not forsake the people to join looters and violent persecutors of those who speak truth to power.

While everyone is free to join any political party, Zanu PF is never a progressive option.

History & the people will judge those who enable a system that has caused untold suffering to the masses.

We are clear – Zanu PF is the problem. Zanu PF must go,” wrote Advocate Mahere on Facebook.

PICTURE: Zanu PF Continues to Breach COVID-19 Lockdown Rules, Holds Another Rally in Gutu.

Today, the ruling ZANU-PF party held another rally in Gutu North, Ward 9 in breach of lockdown regulations which limit public gatherings to less than 30 people.

Today’s rally comes barely two days after President Emmerson Mnangagwa gathered an almost similar crowd when he went to Gwayi-Shangani to officially launch the construction of a pipeline that will feed water to Bulawayo.

Local human rights lobby group, Zimbabwe Human Rights NGO Forum questioned the selective application of the law saying only one party is being allowed to hold political gatherings when everyone else is not allowed.

“Selective application of the law should be condemned. Zimbabweans are equal under the law. Why should one political entity freely hold meetings and another be persecuted for the same? We demand universal application of the law and condemn violations of the same,” queried NGO Forum.

Report Suggests Mohadi Was Recorded By CIOs To Stop His Shenanigans With Women

SPYWARE developed by Israeli technology company Circles was used by Zimbabwe’s Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to record Vice-President Kembo Mohadi’s sleazy calls and messages to a harem of women — some of them married — in a sensational sex scandal which rocked and shook the corridors of power in Harare.

Intelligence sources told The NewsHawks this week that the real significance of the Mohadi sexcapade is not just that it demonstrates the Zimbabwean leadership’s broken moral compass and rotten integrity, but also that citizens are vulnerable to state espionage intrusions, invasion of privacy and even the danger of being located by trailing spooks using Israeli cyberespionage technologies for political reasons.

Mohadi is by no means the only top politician in Zimbabwe who has lost his moral compass.

The top executive — the presidium comprising President Emmerson Mnangagwa, co-Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga and Mohadi himself — has a sordid record regarding women as public office-holders, which makes them morally bankrupt leaders.

Mnangagwa has always been associated with a retinue of women and has countless children. But the late journalist Godfrey Majonga’s excruciating saga was the public highlight of his dramatic personal life.

Majonga was reportedly forced by Mnangagwa to jump from a high-rise apartment in the Avenues in Harare, which got him crippled for the rest of his life, over a girlfriend.

Chiwenga’s record with women, especially his estranged wife Marry, has caused public outrage, particularly how he has subjected her to arrests, detentions and medical treatment, as well as bank account complications during their nasty divorce.

And now Mohadi’s immoral adventures have refocused public scrutiny on them.

All of these cases smack of abuse of power and moral depravity that have compromised their suitability and capacity to govern.

Mohadi’s case has brought the issue to the fore.

“Mohadi was recorded by CIO. Our intelligence services, especially CIO and military intelligence, have technological capabilities to record calls, messages, snoop emails and locate people through their smartphones. The technology came from Israeli and China, but the Israeli one is far the superior, effective and deadlier,” an intelligence source told The NewsHawks.

“Intelligence services in Zimbabwe record almost everyone, including those around the President. Remember the First Lady (Auxillia Mnangagwa)’s angry call outburst with Murombo (Colonel Samson Murombo was Commander of 1 Presidential Guard Battalion based at Josiah Magama Tongogara Barracks, formerly KGVI Barracks) in Harare, which is responsible for securing the President and State House).

“Mohadi was recorded by CIO and the recordings were circulated to our bosses internally and then leaked to the media. The President (Emmerson Mnangagwa) and CIO director-general (Isaac Moyo) were fully aware of the recordings. Moyo got the recordings from his technical team and shared them with Mnangagwa. The leaks were later done by CIO analysts for political reasons; to expose and stop Mohadi from brazen abuse of office and embarrassing the government. The idea was not to remove him from office, but to contain him. That is why Mnangagwa didn’t force him out even if he could have done so. The best way to contain Mohadi was to expose and stop him. Some people close to him had previously raised these issues with him before all this, but he didn’t listen. So CIO went all out to stop him through this operation by leaking the recordings strategically (there are actually many of them), especially because one of their officers was involved; married women and young girls were also entangled in it.

“So in short, this was a CIO operation to stop the marauding Vice-President, who was acting like a bull in a China shop, from abusing office and tarnishing the image of government, but political vultures were already circling over his potential political carcass, which was an unintended consequence. The predators or vultures still see an opportunity.”

While a bruished Mohadi came out this week to incoherently claim that the recordings were “fake”, “hacked” and “cloned” — which cannot all be true at the same time — it has emerged he was recorded and exposed by the CIO using the Israeli spying technology, sources say.

Circles spyware is sold to nation-states only.

Zimbabwe is one of the 25 countries in the world using the technology.

Other nations using it include Australia, Belgium, Botswana (Directorate of Intelligence and Security Services), Chile (Investigations Police), Denmark (Army Command), Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala (General Directorate of Civil Intelligence), Honduras (National Directorate and Intelligence), Indonesia, Israel, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico (Mexican Navy; State of Durango), Morocco (Ministry of Interior), Nigeria (Defence Intelligence Agency), Peru (National Intelligence Directorate), Serbia (Security Information Agency), Thailand (Internal Security Operations Command; Military Intelligence Batallion, Narcotics Suppression Bureau), United Arab Emirates (Supreme Council of National Security, Dubai Government and Royal Group), Vietnam and Zambia.

Zimbabwe, under Mnangagwa, has developed closer relations with Israel. Part of the Israeli telecoms surveillance software was acquired by Mnangagwa in 2018. The first was secured in 2013. The third more recently.

Last August, Mnangagwa appointed Israeli citizen Ronny Levi Musan as Zimbabwe’s honorary consul in Israel.

This signalled strengthening diplomatic relations between the two countries amid a major policy shift away from Zanu PF’s long-standing support for Palestinians.

To facilitate spying, Zimbabwe has an Interception of Communications Act that enables monitoring of people’s calls and messages.

It is also working on a new Cyber Security and Data Protection Bill to reinforce its capacity to snoop on citizens.

In a recent report titled Running in Circles: Uncovering the Clients of Cyberespionage firm Circles, the University of Toronto’s Citizen Lab — which investigates digital espionage against civil society — details how the 25 governments around the world are using tools developed by Circles to snoop.

Its technology intercepts data from 3G networks, allowing the infiltrator to read messages, emails, and listen in on phone calls as they occur.

Using only a telephone number, a Circles platform can also identify the location of a phone anywhere in the world within seconds without a warrant.

Intelligence sources say Zimbabwe’s security services — especially CIO — uses the software to snoop on citizens, mainly those in strategic positions holding sensitive information inside the system, opposition activists and influential individuals.

The CIO has many files on opposition and civic activists that it is keeping under surveillance, mainly for state security and political reasons.

“Three Circles platforms were detected in Zimbabwe. The use of one dates back to 2013, while another was activated in March 2018,” the Canadian investigation report says.

“The Zimbabwean government has long targeted its critics and opponents. Last year, investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and opposition politician Jacob Ngarivhume were detained ahead of anti-government protests. Circles technology may be facilitating this repression.”

Intelligence sources have repeatedly told The NewsHawks that Ngarivhume and Chin’ono, including main opposition MDC Alliance political activists like Job Sikhala and Fadzayi Mahare, were targeted as the security believes they are part of the nondescript July 31 Movement which they say wants to overthrow Mnangagwa through a popular uprising.

As internet penetration and smartphone usage increase across Africa, including in Zimbabwe, digital spaces have become the new democratic struggle battleground increasingly important in organising opposition movements, the report says.

In response, several governments have at times shut down the internet or blocked social media apps. Zimbabwe in January 2019 shut down the internet amid social unrest sweeping the country.

More recently, however, some regimes have turned to digital surveillance technology for more subtle ways to crush resistance. Zimbabwe is doing just that.

“Using Internet scanning, we found a unique signature associated with the hostnames of Check Point firewalls used in Circles deployments. This scanning enabled us to identify Circles deployments in at least 25 countries,” the report says.

“We determine that the governments of the following countries are likely Circles customers: Australia, Belgium, Botswana, Chile, Denmark, Ecuador, El Salvador, Estonia, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Indonesia, Israel, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Morocco, Nigeria, Peru, Serbia, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Vietnam, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

“Some of the specific government branches we identify with varying degrees of confidence as being Circles customers have a history of leveraging digital technology for human rights abuses. In a few specific cases, we were able to attribute the deployment to a particular customer, such as the Security Operations Command of the Royal Thai Army, which has allegedly tortured detainees.”

Circles reportedly exploits weaknesses in the global mobile phone system to snoop on calls, texts, and the location of phones around the globe.

It is affiliated with NSO Group, which develops the oft-abused Pegasus spyware.

NSO Group Technologies is an Israeli technology firm whose spyware Pegasus enables remote surveillance of smartphones.

It was founded in 2010 by Niv Carmi, Shalev Hulio and Omri Lavie, hence NSO. It is based in Herzliya, near Tel Aviv, Israel.

Circles, whose products work without hacking the phone itself, says it only sells its spying software to nation-states.

According to leaked documents seen by the investigators, Circles clients can purchase a system that they connect to their local telecoms companies’ infrastructure, or can use a separate system called the “Circles Cloud,” which interconnects with telecoms companies around the world.

Its spyware has been widely used on human rights defenders and journalists.

UZ Student Laments Deplorable Prison Conditions

Drama As Police Flee Mapostori

Unit H shops

By A Correspondent- Police officers in Chitungwiza yesterday ran for dear life after they were beaten up by Mapostori in Unit H, Seke.

X-ray Equipment Lies Idle At Sadza District Hospital

By A Correspondent- An X-RAY machine worth over US$25 000 has been lying idle for the past five years at Sadza District Hospital in Chikomba due to lack of a specialist to install it for use.

The hospital, which is the biggest in the district serving a population of over 130 000, refers patients who have complications requiring X-ray services to Murambinda and Marondera, about 200km away.

The X-ray machine, donated by a local non-governmental organisation, has been in the open where it was exposed to sun and rain.

Sadza District Hospital administrator Hazel Gusha confirmed to NewsDay Weekender that the machine was lying idle, but referred further questions to the district medical officer Robson Mahachi.

Mahachi said he was not aware why the machine was not being used.

He said:

“I have approached the provincial medical officer’s office and notified him about the issue. We requested for engineers who can examine the machine, but I don’t have any meaningful reason why the machine is not being put to use.”

Health workers throughout the country have staged demonstrations on several occasions, demanding that government improve their working conditions, including provision of medical equipment.

Mashonaland East Zimbabwe Nurses Association chairperson Stewart Mudzingwa, also a nurse at the hospital, said government was neglecting equipment which was donated which implied lack of commitment to ensure effective health service delivery.

“It’s a bad situation for health service delivery as poverty-stricken rural populace has to incur unnecessary expenses in their quest for X-ray services,” Mudzingwa said.

“Government should have ensured that the donated machine was functional soon after the donation but here we are, five years down the line, a very essential machine in any public hospital is lying idle.”

Mashonaland East acting provincial medical director Paul Matsvimbo refused to comment on the matter.-Newsday

ZACC Arrests Corrupt Cop

By A Correspondent- A Harare traffic police officer was arrested by members of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zacc) last week after he allegedly received a bribe from an unlicensed driver to pass through a roadblock without a lockdown exemption letter.

The suspect, Broadway Jogwe, was expected to appear before magistrate Vongai Muchuchuti late yesterday.

Allegations are that on February 18 at the corner of Bishop Gaul Avenue and Rotten Row in Harare, Jongwe solicited for US$30 from Albert Muzhande, who was driving a Mazda
B1800 without a driver’s licence and an exemption letter.

Further facts reveal that Jongwe unlawfully took possession of Muzhande’s national identity card and two cellphones worth US$45 as surety for the gift or consideration for the solicited bribe.

Zacc investigators laid a trap and found Jongwe in possession of the solicited money which was given to him by Muzhande.

Jongwe led investigators to the recovery of Muzhande’s two cellphones and identity card.

“Find Each Other”: UCAZ Tells Local Authorities, Central Govt

By A Correspondent- The Urban Councils Authority of Zimbabwe (UCAZ) says the crusade by the ruling Zanu-PF to blame the opposition on the chaotic state of most urban councils, served no purpose but only worsened service delivery to ratepayers.

This was said by UCAZ president, Josiah Makombe who is also the Gweru mayor while addressing journalists in the city Thursday, Makombe.

Instead, he said there was need for local councils and the central government find each other and work on improving service delivery, which has crumbled in most cities and towns.

Most urban councils are failing to provide residents and businesses with basic facilities like water, primary health care, failure to collect garbage, repair roads and other services.

The Zanu-PF leadership including government ministers have accused the main opposition party, the MDC Alliance, of running down urban councils through corruption and setting up illegal housing structures on state land.

Most urban councils are under the control of the Nelson Chamisa led MDC Alliance.

“They are a lot of issues where government and the local authorities need to sit down together and solve these issues. The blame game will never take us anywhere,” Makombe said.

He said to resolve these challenges, the UCAZ had since engaged President Emmerson Mnangagwa and they had presented to him a position paper on challenges being faced by the local authorities.

“As UCAZ, we have engaged the government. We have held meetings with the President of the country and the Minister of Local Government (July Moyo) and we presented the challenges that local authorities are facing,” he said.

The Gweru mayor could not, however, be drawn into giving specifics of what was contained in the position paper which UCAZ handed over to Mnangagwa.

However, Makombe said the local councils were not responsible for most of the challenges faced by the municipalities.

“We all agree that ZINARA (Zimbabwe National Road Administration) is not doing well since they took licensing from local authorities. We are arguing that the disbursement methods are favouring the rural councils than urban,” he said.

“We agree that there is rampant corruption at ZINARA and some of the officials are in court as we speak. They have been looting money and that (looted) money is supposed to be disbursed to local authorities. So it’s difficult to say local authorities are failing. We cannot operate independently; we always need support from government.

“I expect government to give us money to repair roads not to take money from our allocation from devolution funds. It then becomes a challenge,” he said.

“No Matter How Huge The Amount Of Breadcrumbs That Fall From Your Master’s Tables, Maintain Your Loyalty To The Masses”

By Israel Dube- In more than one article we told over ambitious Kembo Mohadi that he will never be the President of Zimbabwe given his Matabele background.

We told him not to fly to high because his wings were fake, made of wax and feathers, but out of ignorance and hubris he flew too high and too close to the sun. When the wax melted the fall was spectacular.

No matter how huge the amount of bread crumbs that fall from your master’s tables in Harare, do not turn against your own people (Matabele). The 2nd Vice President and the most junior in the Zimbabwe presidium, Kembo Mohadi, should have known. But when he was still the darling of the Shona supremacist government, he fell into the same trap that caught Enos Nkala, he turned against his own Matabele people.

He is on record saying that Matabele people must forget about the 1980- 1987 Matabele genocide and further justified it (the genocide) saying it was necessary for nation building. These were the most treacherous and traitorous words to come from a leader let alone Matabele person.

Like Enos Nkala, he forgot that a Ndebele in Zanupf is like a goat amongst jackals and that Matabeleland is his constituency which, no matter how appetising the bread crumbs that fall from the tables in Harare, he must never, never insult.

Unfortunately that is the costly blunder that he made, actually it is a mistake that most Matabele leaders who find themselves holding some sort of high position in Harare always make. Impressing the masters at the expense of the people of Matabeleland seems irresistible to them.

The office of the president in Zimbabwe has been used as a love nest since 1980. First to defile it was the first President of Zimbabwe, late Robert Mugabe. Beside being married to late ,Sally Mugabe, he was having a promiscuous affair with his aide, Grace Mugabe nee Marufu.

The immoral relationship that started in 1987 produced two children, Bona and Robert Junior, out of wedlock and this happened when Grace was still married to Air Force Pilot, Stanley Goreraza.

Just because Mugabe was Shona, he  respected and worked for his Shona constituents, no one called for his resignation, instead he was congratulated and his wedding with his former side chick, Grace Marufu in 1996 was the most attended event in Mashonaland.

Enter Mnangagwa and his so called second Republic. He was caught pants down by his wife Auxillia Mnangagwa in the maize field entertaining a young Midlands State University student at their Kwekwe farm. The incident was not short of drama as Auxillia chased him through the maize field and he ran like terrified teenager.

According to Prof Jonathan Moyo, Mnangagwa has 41 children with different mothers both young and old. Here is another Zimbabwean leader soiling the  office of the president. Did the people of Mashonaland call for his resignation? Not at all because Mashonaland forms his political base. Instead, he was praised for outfoxing and outrunning his wife in the maize field.

VP Chiwenga’s first wife  Jocelyn Jacobsen (née Mauchaza) was snatched from a white man while  the second wife, Marry Mubaiwa, was taken from popular soccer star Shingi Kaondera. In 2011 Chiwenga married Marry Chiwenga while he was married to Jocelyne. Divorce papers to break Merry’s relationship with Kaondera were forged.

Beside Chiwenga being a marriage wrecker of note, no one has demanded that he resigns. His supporters in Mashonaland protect him.

In the church, the Archbishop of Harare Patrick Chakaipa despite being sworn to celibacy, he left 7 Children when he died. But for having an affair with one woman, Pious Ncube  from Matabeleland was forced to resign based on tribal grounds.

MLO does not condone immorality and promiscuity that has been happening in the Presidium since Zimbabwe independence. But we condemn in the strongest terms, Matabele leaders who are into politics of the stomach. They lead the innocent Matabele people to the slaughter house (Zimbabwe) yet we know that they do not have political stamina to even save themselves when they are under attack by Shona supremacists and their multitudes of supporters.

Look at disgraced Kembo Mohadi, just have a look at him! His career hangs in the balance. He is not crying out to Matabele people to save him because they do not support him and his Zimbabwe project as punishment for insulting them. He is desperately asking for help from Mnangagwa and indeed his political fate will be decided by him who was chased by his wife through the maize fields when he was caught with a young university student in a compromising position. Him who has 41 children with different women will “fire” him. What a shame!

Is Emmerson Mnangagwa not the President of Zimbabwe? Is  Constantino Chiwenga not the 1st Vice President of Zimbabwe? Is Kembo Mohadi not the 2nd Vice President of Zimbabwe and the most Junior in the Presidium? If the answer is yes then why is Zimbabwe calling for the most junior in the office to resign for committing the same “offence” that his seniors have committed? Is it alright for the two, Mnangagwa and Chiwenga, to defile the office of the president because they are Shona, but a dismissible offence for Kembo Mohadi to do the same because he is a Matabele, an unwanted refugee, extra or dviziti?

It is our prayer and wish that all Matabele people understand the meaning of the message above as clear as it is. The message that you are not a Zimbabwean, you must not hold any meaningful position  and that, you and your other generations to come have no place nor future in Zimbabwe.

However, there is a new hope in the new Republic of Matabeleland for all Matabele people. We make a clarion call to all able bodied young men and women to join MLO in the fight for the restoration of the statehood of Matabeleland, to restore our lost independence and sovereignty, to restore our lost culture, our identity, our dignity, our humanity and pride.

Izenzo kungemazwi!

The Heavens Have Dealt A Deadly Blow To Jecha Politics

By Trevor Shiri- The heavens have dealt a deadly blow to the jecha politics that characterises the MDC Alliance’s body politik. The heavens have opened up admirably this summer cropping season, nurturing and sustaining the well-planned twin-pronged Government-driven Pfumvudza and Smart Agriculture Programme (SAP).

This has not boded well with the toxic MDC Alliance, together with their minions, who have of late taken to social media to discourage people from farming as the #ZimAgricRising has taken over Twitter. The Team Pachedu, has been on a blitz, telling Zimbabweans not to be pressured to venture into agriculture, which is doing well and on the rise, saying they should venture into other sectors of the economy.

A self-confessed and ardent MDC Alliance activist and key member of Team Pachedu, Freeman Chari, unashamedly parroted the anti-agriculture stance, tweeting that “don’t feel pressured to be a farmer. Do what you are good at, be patient and persistent. Usatorwa nemhepo.”

The foregoing tweet is instructive and encapsulates all that is wrong with the MDC Alliance and its minions. As a puppet party, especially formed and funded by white monopoly capital to fight the Land Reform Programme (LRP) and label black people as incapable of farming, the puppets must fight the LRP.

The MDC narrative since 2000 has been that Zimbabwe was no longer the bread basket of Southern Africa because of the LRP, which reclaimed stolen land by whites. Blacks are incapable of farming. Blacks are lazy. Blacks are unproductive.

Cheeky, yet distorted comparisons were being made that Zambia, which absorbed some of the former white commercial farmers from Zimbabwe, had a booming agricultural sector as a result of the presence of white farmers. What nonsense.

What was lost, and still is lost on such hare-brained thinking is that, agriculture is dependent on funding. White people were accessing agricultural loans at subsidised rates. Enter black people in 2000, sanctions were imposed on the country to incapacitate it from financing the LRP. To this day, British-owned companies such as Mashonaland Tobacco Company, do not fund beneficiaries of the LRP because it is “disputed land,” but funds all white farmers who retained their farms, and the few opposition-oriented blacks that bought stolen land.

Noting the incapacitation wrought by sanctions, Government set up Agri-Bank to fund the LRP, but the bank was immediately placed on sanctions. The sanctions themselves hamstrung Government from accessing lines of credit from the Bretton Woods Institutions. All this was tailor-made to sustain the silly narrative that blacks cannot farm. It is sickening that white people who had a whole century to horn their agricultural skills with considerable funding curiously labelled a nascent LRP, barely 20 years old, a failure!

Cognisant of the stakes against it, Government has engaged in various funding models, among them, Operation Maguta, Farm Mechanisation, Presidential-Well Wishers Scheme, Command Agriculture – and of late, the highly successful Pfumvudza and SAPs, the source of gripe from the MDC Alliance. Dear reader, all these programmes were funded using locally-generated resources.

It has been an arduous and tortuous journey, especially on the back of climate change-induced extreme weather phenomena, characterised either by torrential rains, resulting in floods and destruction, or incessant droughts.

It is against this background and efforts that youth have taken the initiative to transform Zimbabwe’s agriculture. Social media, in particular, Twitter, the citadel of the opposition’s jecha politics, is now awash with success stories of the transforming agricultural sector. This has not boded well with the opposition which is now at sixes and sevens and fulminating and cursing the Lord for opening up the heavens, which has showered blessings of seed and success on hard-working farmers.

The National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1) is poised to be a success on the back of a strong agricultural sector, anchored by new farmers, mainly the youth, paving way for the attainment of an Upper Middle Income Economy by 2030.

The opposition’s jecha politics are dead in the water as no sane person will ever support a party that gets angry over good rains and good harvests. It is not normal.

“Enough Of Lockdowns”: Businesses

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) has said Zimbabwe may struggle to achieve even 0,5% gross domestic product (GDP) growth this year due to the repeated imposition of hard lockdowns.

In its latest report titled:

“2020 Achievements in Retrospect”, the ZNCC appealed to the government to move to targeted lockdowns which allow all formal businesses to remain open rather than blanket lockdowns.

The report said:

We will be thankful to the Almighty if we are to post even a +0,5% GDP growth for 2021, with a negative 6% to 9% being our forecast before the economy moves out of the hole in the second half of 2022.

The services sector is becoming the major driver of the Zimbabwean economy and the hard lockdowns we continue experiencing will not do a favour to an economy with almost 61% concentration of the services sector.

We have had enough lockdowns and we have to graduate to smart and targeted lockdowns with all formal businesses expected to remain open whilst adhering to the guidelines of COVID-19.

Zimbabwe first imposed a hard lockdown at the end of March last year to curb the spread of SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus which causes the respiratory disease called COVID-19.

After subsequently relaxing the lockdown from mid-2020 onwards, the government reverted to a hard lockdown in January this year to contain a second wave of the coronavirus.

The lockdowns have further hurt an already struggling economy.
