LP Gas Shortage Hits Byo

BY A Correspondent- Bualwayo is facing an acute shortage of liquefied petroleum (LP) gas resulting in its price shooting up by 80 percent since mid-December.

For the past week Bulawayo residents who use LP gas have said they have been experiencing challenges accessing the product.

Gas usage has been on the increase in the country over the past few years largely due to power outages and the fact some suburbs are yet to be connected to the Zesa grid. Other residents use it as a substitute especially when there are power cuts.

A kilogramme of LP gas was being sold for between US$1,20 and US$1,30 but following the latest shortage it has gone up to around US$2. Residents who spoke to Chronicle yesterday said the shortage has become a serious inconvenience to them as those who have the product have resorted to profiteering.

Mr Nkosana Phiri of Pumula suburb said gas has become a necessity so any shortages create problems.

“For the past week I have been trying to buy LP gas but most of the traders say they do not have it and are waiting for deliveries. Actually, across the festive season we have been experiencing problems accessing LP gas. This requires the intervention from Government just like when there are fuel shortages because some of us who live in houses without electricity heavily depend on it,” said Mr Phiri.

He said at the moment those who have the product have increased the price.

Another resident Ms Sibusiso Moyo from Pelandaba West speculated that the shortage could be countrywide.

“My house is yet to be connected to electricity so we use gas as an energy source. Without it, life is unbearable. I even asked a friend who frequently travels to Plumtree to buy it for me in that town but he also said there are shortages there. So now I don’t know how widespread the problem is. We could be talking about a national problem,” said Ms Moyo.

An LP gas vendor operating from Pumula South attributed shortages to recent congestion at Beitbridge Border Post which has resulted in delays in clearing cargo.

“Our supplies are said to have been stuck at the border. This is what we have been told. So, since we’ve been told that the situation is normalising at Beitbridge Border Post, we hope normal supplies will resume but at the moment I have gone for more than two weeks without getting any supplies. But those who have it are now selling for US$2 or R40,” said the vendor.

Reached for comment, Energy and Power Development Minister Zhemu Soda yesterday said he was yet to be briefed about the issue.

Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority communications officer Mr Gladman Njanji requested questions in writing but had not responded by last night.

JUST IN: Hopewell Chin’ono Says He Wont Apply For Bail

By Jane Mlambo| Incarcerated journalist Hopewell Chin’ono has stated his reluctance to apply for bail following his arrest on charges of communicating falsehoods, saying he would rather spend more time in prison while challenging the unconstitutional law used to arrest him in the Constitutional Court.

In a statement issued from Chikurubi Maximum prison, Chin’ono said he believes prioritising his immediate liberty at the expense of the media’s right to free speech would be equal to selling out.

“I have a choice today to immediately apply for bail and go home, or to fight the constitutionality of the law used to charge, and as a result, stay in prison for a couple more weeks whilst doing so,” said Chin’ono.

He added that he is ready to fight against the unconstitutional law used to charge him and ensure that other journalists and citizens would not be victims of non-existent laws.

“I have chosen to fight the use of this unconstitutional law used against me. If I chose to take bail without exposing the use of unconstitutional laws, the same law will be used against other journalists and ordinary citizens to muzzle them, as has happened to Job Sikhala,” he said.

The firebrand journalist said he will challenge the unconstitutionality of the law used to arrest him as a way to measure judiciary independence especially of the magistrates court which accepted a charge that was struck down by the High Court.

“It is also important to challenge the use of this unconstitutional law so that the world can see where our judiciary stand in regards to the rule of law, especially the magistrates court,

“This law was struck down by the highest court of Zimbabwe and all the judges on the bench the day it was struck down concurred without dissent,” said Chin’ono.

Meanwhile, Chin’ono has accused prison officers of disregarding court orders made to protect him from health risks while in detention.

According to Chin’ono, prison officers were ordered to provide him with hot or warm water for bathing, clean blankets and running water which have been disregarded.

“On the 9th of January the court ordered that Prisons provide Hopewell Chin’ono with hot/warm water for bathing purposes, Chikurubi prison refused to follow the order

“The court ordered the prisons to provide Hopewell Chin’ono with clean running water for drinking purposes and flushing the toilet, Chikurubi prison failed to do that

“Prison is supposed to provide clean blankets, Chikurubi prison failed to do that,” said Chin’ono.

Signal, Telegram Demand Increases As Whatsapp Updated Terms Raises Eyebrows

By A Correspondent- The Signal and Telegram messaging apps are seeing a sudden increase in demand after larger rival WhatsApp’s updated terms of service raised eyebrows on social media.

WhatsApp, which uses Signal’s encryption technology, laid out fresh terms on Wednesday, asking users to agree to let owner Facebook and its subsidiaries collect user data, including their phone number and location.

Some privacy activists questioned the “accept our data grab or get out” move on Twitter, and suggested users to switch to apps like Signal and Telegram.

Signal’s popularity shot up further on Thursday after it was endorsed by Elon Musk, who has one of the most-followed accounts on Twitter, and by the micro-blogging site’s top boss, Jack Dorsey.

More than 100 000 users installed Signal across the app stores of Apple and Google in the last two days, while Telegram picked up nearly 2.2 million downloads, according to data analytics firm Sensor Tower.

New installs of WhatsApp fell 11% in the first seven days of 2021 compared to the prior week, but that still amounted to an estimated 10.5 million downloads globally, Sensor Tower said.

Zanu Pf Throws Tafadzwa Mugwadi Under The Bus

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF has distanced itself from a statement issued by its director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi threatening to expose South Africa’s African National Congress (ANC)’s alleged sinister agenda behind its decision to send a delegation to Zimbabwe last year.

The ANC delegation met Zanu-PF in September last year in Harare to discuss matters of mutual interest.

The meeting between the two sister parties was a bilateral engagement of former liberation movements requested by the national executive council (NEC) of the ANC to exchange notes on matters affecting the region including clearing the unfounded assertions of a crisis in Zimbabwe.

Zanu-PF national spokesperson Ambassador Simon Khaya Moyo said Mugwadi’s statement does not in any way reflect the position of the party. He said Zimbabwe and South Africa share a common liberation history, culture and destiny.

Posting on his Twitter account, Mugwadi threatened to expose the ANC’s alleged sinister agenda behind its delegation’s trip to Zimbabwe last year. The threat was an angry reaction to what Mugwadi described as hostile reportage against Zanu-PF by the South African Broadcasting Corporation (SABC)’s foreign editor Sophie Mokoena.

“If the ANC and SABC news do not restrain and rein in Sophie Mokoena, whose fake news reporting and tweeting directed only at undermining a neighbouring country and President Mnangagwa for no apparent reason, I will seek permission to leak a bombshell on why the ANC delegation came,” Mugwadi tweeted.

In an interview with the SABC on Saturday, President Cyril Ramaphosa dared Mugwadi to come out with his “bombshell” and reveal the “real reason” which he claimed was behind his party’s visit to Zimbabwe last year. Ambassador Khaya Moyo said Mugwadi issued the statement without authorisation from the party hence it should be dismissed with contempt.

“A statement issued by the Zanu-PF director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi on the visit last year by the ANC delegation to meet with Zanu-PF on matters of mutual interest does not in any way reflect the position of Zanu-PF. It (the statement) was issued without authorisation and must be dismissed with contempt,” said Ambassador Khaya Moyo in a statement yesterday.

“The ANC of South Africa and Zanu-PF enjoy excellent and fraternal relations dating back to the days of our liberation struggle and continue blossoming up to this day. To suggest that the ANC delegation came to Zimbabwe with a hidden agenda is compound mischief, uninformed, unacceptable and unpatriotic.”

Ambassador Khaya Moyo said necessary measures would be taken concerning the issue.

“A communique was issued on the constructive two-day meeting by the two fraternal parties and indeed these meetings will continue in the future. Nothing was amiss and necessary measures will be taken by Zanu-PF concerning those involved to this matter,” he said.

“The President and First Secretary of Zanu-PF ED Mnangagwa, the President of the ANC CM Ramaphosa called each other in high esteem and no one should attempt to soil this fraternal relationship. We are one people sharing a common liberation history, culture and destiny.”

President Ramaphosa told the SABC that the ANC sent its delegation to Zimbabwe to understand the situation in the country with a view to help.

“We sent a delegation as the ANC to Zimbabwe because Zanu-PF is a sister party to us, we have a deep and strong base with Zanu-PF and it was one to express concern and find out what was happening and to see the extent to which we can either be supportive and fully understand precisely what was happening,” he said.

“I don’t know what the representative of Zanu-PF was talking about and I am sure that he will be willing to share all that with the ANC and all of us”.

President Ramaphosa said as far as he was concerned, there was absolutely nothing amiss and nothing to hide.

“At government level, I appointed three envoys who went to Zimbabwe and we continue to interact with Zimbabwe and I am also in contact with President Mnangagwa on an ongoing basis,” he said.

“Zim Does Not Have Enough Resources To Mitigate Covid-19”: Govt Official

By A Correspondent- Mpilo Central Hospital’s acting clinical director Professor Solwayo Ngwenya says that Zimbabwe does not have much resources at its disposal to mitigate the coronavirus.

He also said that there was an awareness challenge among health workers as it is difficult to educate all health workers at once.

Ngwenya said the key thing was not to put health facilities under strain so there was need to religiously follow lockdown measures.

Health experts have called on Government to tighten the coronavirus lockdown amid growing self-discipline by ordinary people.

Other health experts have warned of a continued surge in Covid-19 cases in the country during the coming weeks and called on government to introduce and equip new decentralised treatment centres around the country.

The country is experiencing a steep rise in daily new infections as well as deaths, with reports that major health institutions are no longer taking new Covid-19 patients due to shortage of bedding facilities.

Several patients have reportedly died at hospitals before being attended.

Cletos Masiya, spokesperson of the Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association (MDPPZA), said home-based care management was commonly becoming the desperate measure being taken by relatives who could just not let their beloved ones die while they watched.

Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights secretary Norman Matara said there were isolation beds available across the country in some less populated areas, but intensive care unit (ICU) beds were limited and most patients were failing to access them.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association President Enock Dongo said that the government could soon be overwhelmed by the rising coronavirus cases and without adequate resources, there could be an increase in the fatality rate.

Meanwhile, medical doctors have warned of a looming surge in COVID-19-related deaths in the coming days, saying the figures were likely to double this week as positive cases continue to rise against a drop in the recovery rate.

The health professionals told NewsDay that the new variant was more aggressive than the first strain of COVID-19 that hit the country last year and more people were likely to succumb to the disease given the country’s collapsed health care system.

Trio Nabbed With Machetes, Axes, Knives And Catapults

By A Correspondent- Police in Bulawayo have arrested three men who were caught with machetes, axes, a knife, catapults in a Honda Fit that had no number plates.

Parked in the middle of the road in Cowdray Park, Xolile Moyo of Pumula North (33), Simio Mhlanga (30) and Talent Mhlanga (28) both of Cowdray Park were caught by police who were patrolling on Thursday night.

Four other occupants of the Honda Fit took to their heels upon seeing police approaching and are still at large. According to Bulawayo police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, police were enforcing the lockdown curfew and the trio was arrested for violating it.

“Police, under Nkulumane district, have an operation code-named, ‘No to Machetes.’ This operation targets Pumula and Cowdray Park because of crimes of murder and assault. At around 6.30PM, after the beginning of the 6PM to 6AM curfew, police officers approached the Hawkflight intersection at Cowdray Park. They observed a Honda Fit with no number plates, parked in the middle of the road.

“The police officers approached the vehicle and a gang of four, disembarked and ran away. They managed to arrest three inside the vehicle. They were being arrested for non-compliance of Covid-19 lockdown regulations during curfew,” said Insp Ncube.

He said police searched the car and found the dangerous weapons they suspect were being used in committing various crimes.

“It was then after the search of the vehicle that police officers recovered two machetes, one knife, one knobkerrie, three claw hammers, two axes, catapults and three sharp pointed iron rods, which could have been used for break ins. So, these persons and the vehicle were taken to Luveve station where they are assisting police with investigations. So, this is a gang that is waylaying people and committing robberies using those axes and machetes they attack and rob them,” said Insp Ncube.

He said this showed that as police they were on top of the situation. Insp Ncube appealed to members of the public to help them with tip-offs.

“We are walking our talk as police. This shows that we are on the ground and those who are found breaking the law will be arrested. We appeal to members of the public to help police with information about criminals so that we arrest them. Like this particular car, we know that people who live in Cowdray Park know who they are. There are some members of the public who are giving police tip-offs,” said Insp Ncube.

‘Apostle’ Chiwenga’s GranMother In Law Dies Of COVID-19, Fireworks As Family Plans To Expose Him For Allegedly “Killing Own Wife In Chatsworth Accident”.

Talent Chiwenga

By A Correspondent | The Harare preacher, Talent Chiwenga’s GranMother in law, popularly known as Gogo Yafele, has died of COVID-19.

Gogo Yafele passed away late last night.

Chiwenga’s in laws spoke to ZimEye in the late hours of Sunday evening explaining that many family members are planning to speak out concerning how they say their daughter, Rejoice (Chiwenga’s late wife and mother of two), was killed in the Chatsworth, Masvingo road, accident in June 2019.

Three years before that accident, Chiwenga had approached the family seeking to secretly marry his wife’s own niece, the young Tariro Mafuka, based in Norton. He later smuggled his secret lover to a house in South Africa, and she would later sneak back into the country just after the accident, what the family says was celebratory.

Tariro Mafuka

(When challenged over this affair by Chiwenga’s own peer Howard Nyoni last year, Chiwenga avoided responding to the report, chosing to rather invite the UK based Nyoni to Zimbabwe, saying he would pay for his airfare plus a hotel stay so ‘we can face each other.” Chiwenga would later serve court summons on Howard Nyoni in which he made false claims that Nyoni was once a church member of his cult, Jesus Revelation Ministries.) A year later, there is no court case, or any other communication from his lawyers.

part of the summons Chiwenga served on Howard Nyoni

part of the fake summons Chiwenga served on Howard Nyoni

Of that accident Chiwenga alleges there was an attempted assassination against his life by CIOs, while yet on video on the spot in hospital, revealing that he was speeding at twice the speed limit in that narrow, bendy, potholed and abnormal-gonyet-fested Masvingo road patch; also saying he was overspeeding for no other reason other than to rush to Harare to purchase a fanbelt for the car.

Chiwenga is also accused of trying to bribe his wife’s relatives in exchange for silence over the alleged killing of his wife.

Efforts to get a comment from Chiwenga were difficult last night as his phones and that of his pastors reported switched off.

The investigation over the allegations has several exclusive interviews.

Why Jacob Mafume’s Continued Incarceration Should Worry Everyone

By Mcdonald Lewanika| Almost a decade ago, I visited a friend of mine who had just left the employ of a big development agency. During the course of that visit, his phone did not ring once. The absence of phone calls, given his profile and past encounters with him where a minute would hardly pass without a message coming in or call disrupting our conversation, struck me as odd. I made a comment about this observation, to which he remarked, “ahh, my phone barely rings these days. That is what happens when one leaves positions of influence, and people think you can’t give them anything anymore.”

The friend in question was Jacob Mafume, now Mayor of Harare, who was arrested on 15 December 2020 for the second time in a month. Jacob spent this last Christmas remanded in custody over allegations of abusing his office, and witness tampering, and continues to be remanded in custody. Between the time we had the referenced conversation and now, Jacob went on to become a key advisor to Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai, a leading member of the Peoples Democratic Party, Spokesperson and secretary for elections of the Movement for Democratic Change-Alliance, councillor for Mt Pleasant, ward 17, and in October 2020, Mayor of Harare. I am fairly certain that Jacob did not have a shortage of phone calls during this illustrious political career and rise, except from me. Although Jacob was my friend, predecessor at a former workplace, and also my lawyer, he would usually ask why I wasn’t calling, and my retort would be “mukoma, makawandirwa.”

As Jacob sits in remand prison, unwell – at risk of contracting COVID19 and fighting charges that are more political than they are substantive, the silence from his political allies and well-meaning citizens, in general, has, to me, been deafening. It reminded me of that time ten years ago when his phone didn’t ring. Granted, some have begun to contest his incarceration, but the main feature from where I am has largely been silence, including from me.

The “reasons” for the “silence” are varied. For some, Jacob’s career as a non-executive but influential Mayor of the capital city seems finished. As a result, he cannot do anything for them, so why bother. In fact, others see this as a chance for their ascendency or to have a more pliant and corruptible mayor who takes care of their interests. Some residents of Harare and citizens in general believe, rightly so that Jacob is a politician, and past form has shown that political victimisation comes with the territory. For these people, there is nothing to see here because people who make a deliberate choice to contest against ZANU-PF have made their bed and have to lie on the sheets of politically motivated victimisation, incarceration, and all manner of abuse. For those who belong to ZANU-PF and other political parties, there is nothing to say because Jacob is an example to other political competitors of the price of “political” intransigence and resisting the ZANU-PF political centre’s control of urban local councils, especially Harare, despite failing to secure a mandate to do so from the residents of Harare. And yet for others, Jacob has been charged with a criminal offense, abused his office, and god forbid they be caught up in that mess.

The preceding “reasons” expose a very selfish personal political economy calculus that has gripped civil and political society in Zimbabwe. It is an ill-tempered spirit that makes cost-benefit analysis in instances where principles must be defended and calculations around personal aggrandisement, subordinated.

The “reasons” raise questions around the selective application of the law and the provision of solidarity based on a warped sense of allocating deserving and underserving activists dependent on who they are and whether or not we identify them as ordinary citizens or political actors. Jacob’s pre-trial long incarceration is an aberration. It is abhorrent and should be castigated by all who believe that the scales of the Libra must always be even. The fundamental principle of innocent till proven guilty has been discarded, and Jacob is effectively serving a jail term before he has been tried by a competent court. As was on display in the first week of January 2021, Zimbabwe’s courts and justice system can be efficient. One only has to look at the fast-track trial of DJs Fantan and Levels to see the deliberate and political nature of pre-trial long incarcerations for perceived opponents of the government.

In my opinion, Jacob Mafume’s arrest in November and current long incarceration is the latest in a series of arrests and suspensions of councilors at the Harare City Council which have been used as an indicator of deep-rooted corruption at the city council. But the arrests also indicate the weaponization of public contempt for corruption and poor service delivery and its use to purge local councils of key opposition officers and organisers.

There is a clear political play at controlling Harare City Council by the central state using various legal and political machinations. These include creating the impression of popular support for removing the council as seen through letters to the Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, from shadowy networks like the Zimbabwe Revolutionary and Patriotic Youth Network (ZIRAPAYON). They also include the patently undemocratic recalls of MPs and councilors by parties they do not belong to, and an obsession with and constant tweets on Harare’s state of affairs from the Government’s spokesperson.

Whether Jacob is guilty or innocent of the charges laid against him, it is clear to me that his long incarceration is part of the corrosive subversion of electoral democracy that has been at play since the recalls of MDC-Alliance Members of Parliament and Councillors by the MDC-T. Unfortunately, Jacob’s fate and that of the city of Harare’s council lie not in objective assessments of wrongdoing, a fair trial, and the interests of residents and voters in Harare but on the negative aspects of Realpolitik aimed at sectoral and factional political aggrandizement.

I worry about Jacob the friend, brother, lawyer, husband, and father. He is all these things, but he is also the mayor of Harare and a sitting member of the leading opposition party’s national executive. His incarceration is act two or three in a recurring political drama that, at the City of Harare, claimed the scalp of Mayor Herbert Gomba and at least 11 other Councillors. I worry about my friend, but the opposition must be more worried about this relentless attack on their ranks and clear attempt to render them dysfunctional and possibly non-existent by 2023.

As I worry about my friend, citizens must worry about how their will is being disrespected as their elected representatives are sent packing leaving them either with no representation or representatives forced on them by parties, they rejected at the election in 2018. Democrats must worry about the impact that this politically motivated incarceration and other forms of weeding out elected representatives has on electoral accountability and attendant criminalisation of opposition.

Politicians must worry about the culture that they are perpetuating of subversion and undemocratic means of gaining political control.

If it is paying attention, the nation must be worried. But for now, I wish strength to the Mayor of Harare and councilor for Ward 17. I pray that he is freed soon and is able to re-join his loving wife and children to provide comfort during these trying times amidst a pandemic.

Drama Expected As Mwonzora Squares Off With Khupe Today

Douglas Mwonzora

By A Correspondent | Drama is expected today as Senator Douglas Mwonzora prepares to square off with the party compatriots he plans to recall from parliament.

The truth is that President Douglas Mwonzora is scheduled to meet all of our leaders in earnest, on or around (today) the 11th of January 2020, when the party officially resumes its activities for the year, his spokesperson, Witness Dube said in a statement.

At the weekend, his information mouthpiece contradicted his own interview in which he said that he is going to recall Thokozani Khupe from her parliament post. Announcing on Saturday morning, his spokesperson described a viral WhatsApp chat record of Mwonzora with his girlfriend of many years, Lwazi Sibanda, as fake news.

In an exclusive interview with ZimEye last weekend, Mwonzora clearly announced that he is going to ignore Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson’s orders to retain Khupe as opposition leader; and use the Speaker of Parliament to sideswipe Mnangagwa, as he executes the recall. This move was further confirmed by the disputed WhatApp chats.

Yesterday, Mwonzora’s girfriend, Lwazi Sibanda confirmed in a discussion with ZimEye that the chats are authentic.

Senator Douglas Mwonzora’s roof is certainly on fire as he accuses his girlfriend of many years of conniving with Thokozani Khupe to get him imprisoned for stealing $6million.

Douglas Mwonzora

The below WhatsApp chats albeit denied by Senator Douglas Mwonzora on Saturday morning, have been fully confirmed by his girlfriend of many years , Lwazi Sibanda who is at the centre of the conversations, and had personally shared them with MDCT top cadre, Mr Patson Murimoga (full interview streaming on ZimEye.com.)

Lwazi Sibanda speaks to ZimEye in a 20 minute long interview (WATCH AND LISTEN IN FULL in the live video streams ABOVE)

[1/7, 9:06 PM] Douglas Mwonzora: We are not the same. He is wrong. He did something very wrong. He is continuing. I never stole anything. But it’s ok. I guess I have to fight back. At least I tried.
[1/7, 9:08 PM] Lwazi Sibanda: Let me tok to him again tomorrow
[1/7, 9:08 PM] Douglas Mwonzora: Well it’s now up to you guys
[1/7, 9:09 PM] Lwazi Sibanda: I am not involved in this Murimoga thing.
[1/7, 9:10 PM] Douglas Mwonzora: Your team is involved Lwazi

But Mwonzora denies this evidence and he has issued the below statement, denying the revelations. FULL TEXT:

The Movement for Democratic Change is seized with a galling dosage of fake news in the social media and their online contemporaries purporting to be a WhatsApp chat meant to be construed as being about our President. This false and malicious piece of fake news must be dismissed with the utmost contempt it deserves.

The truth is that President Douglas Mwonzora is scheduled to meet all of our leaders in earnest, on or around the 11th of January 2020, when the party officially resumes its activities for the year. He has at no point since his election contemplated recalling any of our public representatives.

Our 27th of December 2020 Extra Ordinary Congress produced a legitimate, democratic, free and fair outcome that all our leaders have acknowledged. We therefore urge continued reportage of the status of our party, post this milestone to purvey factual, accurate, and plausibly justified facts backed by official party information channels.
Thank you

Is ZANU PF Telling The Truth Denying Secret Coup Attempts To Against President Ramaphosa?

Simon Khaya Moyo

The ZANU PF official tasked with announcing all unconstitutional changes in government since 2014, (Mujuru, Mnangagwa, Mugabe, Mnangagwa), Simon Khaya-Moyo, yesterday made an official announcement disowning the party’s own Information Director’s report on a secret plot between Harare and Pretoria to overthrow South Africa’s President Cyril Ramaphisa, as Khaya Moyo said Tafadzwa Mugwadi’s pronouncement was an unauthorised statement. Party spokesperson, Simon Khaya Moyo also describes the statement as “unpatriotic.”

“The statement was issued without authorisation and must be dismissed with contempt,” says Simon Khaya Moyo.
He continues saying, “The ANC of SA and ZANU PF enjoy fraternal and excellent relations dating back to the days of our liberation struggles and continue blossoming up to today.

President Chamisa Salutes Frontline Workers

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance has remained intact despite being attacked from all directions by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

President Chamisa also accused Mr Mnangagwa’s administration of plundering State resources while millions are suffering.

Said President Chamisa:
Let us continue to pray that things get better for us and the rest of the world. We want to work with everyone to ensure that we get the vaccines and other support that we need to safeguard our communities.

I know that the lockdown is extremely hard for many people. Ours is now largely an informal economy and when people are stopped from working, they have no means of earning income. If it were up to us, we would have offered more creative ways to support people during this difficult time.

We would also have done more to support our frontline workers in the healthcare sector who are in harm’s way as they carry out an important national duty. The billions that are lost through corruption and patronage can go a long way to support our healthcare sector which was already in bad shape long before the pandemic. Our people are paying the price of high level incompetence over the years.

I wish to conclude by reassuring you that your party, the MDC Alliance, remains solid, undaunted, and emboldened. I would like to thank you for your continued support and encouragement even as we have been attacked from all directions by the regime and its enablers. These enablers will present themselves as the opposition’s opposition.

You know that they are not genuinely the alternative. You know that they have relied on the abuse of state institutions to steal from us – your MPs, councillors, money, and party property – and in doing so, they have undermined trust in politics.

But you also know that there are some things that the repressive state and its surrogates can neither command nor steal: your loyalty and support. They cannot force you to support what you disagree with. They cannot command you to divert your loyalties. COVID-19

COVID-19 Simple Precautions You Need To Know

Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, available on the WHO website and through your national and local public health authority. Many countries around the world have seen cases of COVID-19 and several have seen outbreaks.

The situation is unpredictable so check regularly for the latest news.

You can reduce your chances of being infected or spreading COVID-19 by taking some simple precautions:

Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.

Why?Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.

Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.

Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth

Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.

Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.

Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.

Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.

Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.

Keep up to date on the latest COVID-19 hotspots (cities or local areas where COVID-19 is spreading widely). If possible, avoid traveling to places – especially if you are an older person or have diabetes, heart or lung disease.

Why? You have a higher chance of catching COVID-19 in one of these areas.

MDC Alliance Youth Assembly Statement On Persecution Of Hon Sikhala, Hopewell Chin’ono

Hon Sikhala

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance Youth Assembly has condemned the harassment of innocent citizens by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s paranoid administration.

The desperate regime arrested prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and MDC Alliance vice chairperson, Hon Job Sikhala in a bid to silence dissenting voices.

Below is MDC Alliance Youth Assembly spokesperson, Stephen Sarkozy Chuma’s statement:

10-01-2021

The panic- stricken Emmerson Mnangagwa’s fascist regime must be warned that the continued muzzling of citizens’ basic freedoms and rights breeds trouble.

In just less than ten days into the new year, 2021, Emmerson Mnangagwa’s rogue regime simply carried forward its thuggish behavior on every dissenting voices.

Just a few days after the release of ARTUZ trade unionist, Sheila Chisirimunhu, Mnangagwa’s daring dictatorship yesterday locked up journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and MDC Alliance Vice Chairperson, Job Sikhala.

The duo’s only crime is raising alarm on the police’s heavy handedness on harmless citizens when enforcing Covid-19 lockdown regulations as highlighted by a sore video where a police officer was captured hitting a baby strapped on a mother’s back.

Only that dictators have short memories and never learn from the past!

The Arab Spring popular revolution that toppled Tunisia dictator Ben Ali had the exact traits of immoral and spineless heavy handedness of police on citizens already struggling to put food on the table.

Citizens have every right to express their disgust at the unprofessional behavior of a police force supposedly expected to protect citizens especially given the experiences of the past.

Remember this is the same police force that last year tear gassed a bus with toddlers and the elderly at Harare Showgrounds bus terminus yet the public is still in the dark as to what became of those rogue police officers that threw tear gas.

We have every reason to be skeptical of this police force given that the same institution through its spokesperson Paul Nyathi once told us that the trio of MDC Alliance female youth leaders, Cecilia Chimbiri, Joana Mamombe and Netsai Marova were in their custody only to pull a summersault and the trio were three days later found bruised and sexually assaulted.

How can citizens fail to raise alarm on police immoral misbehavior when in the past we witnessed butchering of innocent citizens on 01 August 2018 by the police’s sister organization, the military.

Student activist, Allan Moyo and Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume are also languishing in prison just because they see things differently to the establishment.

By these senseless arrests and detentions, Mnangagwa is stirring the hornet’s nest.

Our rights to information, freedom of expression and hold opinion must be respected. In a season where poverty and Covid-19 reign supreme, the regime can do better by arresting those two instead of arresting voices of reason.

Mnangagwa risks public wrath if he continues in this path!

Tribute To A Dear Sister Eunice Chipawe Chingeya

Eunice Chipawe Chingeya

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | In the early cold morning of 10th January 2021 I was waken up by a sharp piercing sound of the phone. My wife jumped for the phone. I heard her exclaiming with a portion of grief. She put the phone down with her hands trembling. The she said Eunice is no more. Eunice Chipawe Chingeya was born on the 7th March 1969 in Harare Zimbabwe.
The moment I realised my sister has passed on my hands cradled my face,
and I frantically cried. Why did this happen, and how could this be.
She had so much to live for, we could all clearly see.

My heart simply dropped, and felt a sharp pain. My tears fell instantly, Like a severe waters of Victoria falls. I was truly lucky,to have a sister like her.

I will miss our talks, and her comforting voice. And those random moments,
where we’d mutually rejoice.

Rest in peace, Sister and best friend, Eunice Chipawe Chingeya.

Eunice did he secondary education at girls High School in Harare.

Unfortunately despite Eunice being a hard worker, setting Chingeya in business, she had to escape the cruel abusive hand of Chingeya. She was working at the East Zimbabwe Conference where she was Personal Assistant to the Conference Treasurer Elder Dzimiri who is now in America. Despite having separated Chingeya did not make life easy for Eunice so she requested the conference to transfer her from Harare to Mt Darwin at Ruya Adventist Mission where she was and Admin personnel.

Eunice being a single mother the salary of a secretary did not meet her needs.
She had lost a brother Lancelot Chipawe and things did not work to her favour.
She then moved to the United Kingdom where she worked hard to bring her children over and start a new life. She still had sisters uncles and a mother who needed her financial support. Again her third born Masimba had physical challenges and raising her up was a burden which Mbuya Chipawe had to take while Eunice toiled.

While in the UK she met Joseph Dube a play boy. Together they have a blessing of a baby boy David Highlanders Dube who is now eleven. Through hard work Eunice managed to bring all her Children to the UK. She was taking care of the children being a carer of her disabled child. She managed to take Tindo Tino And Simba and David to school. Tindo is at University while Tino is at college Simba and David are still at secondary school. Eunice stands for all single Mothers there. She worked and looked after four children while their fathers where busy lazing around. She was the pillar to many and her death was a death of a hero.
Today We stand motionless,
consumed in grief.Sorrow has arrived and injected us to mourn and cry. Our questions pointing,

at the cold blue sky. Why did you go, why did you leave,Life without you,is so hard to conceive.
Our hearts are damaged, and scarred severely. We shall miss you, much more than dearly.
But now the time has arrived,
for you to rest. We promise to cherish, our memories of you.
You shall live in our minds,
and all that we do.

Eunice made me realise that a sister is someone who loves you from the heart,no matter how much you argue you cannot be drawn apart.Eunice was a joy that cannot be taken away.

Once she enters your life, she is there to stay.
A friend who helps you through difficult times.

Her comforting words are worth much more than money.

Eunice had the art to fill your life with laughs and smile, her memories last for miles and miles.

Eunice was a blessing, who fills your heart with love.

With a sister you cannot have a grudge,
She is as sweet as love and as smooth as fudge.

Having a sister is not just a trend. It is knowing you can always turn to her, your best friend. Now that light has been switched off.

Today we shed tears that she is gone but we have an option to smile because she has lived.

You can close your eyes and pray that she’ll come back or you can open your eyes and see all she’s left. Your heart can be empty because you can’t see her or you can be full of the love you shared. You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday.

You can remember her and only that she’s gone or you can cherish her memory and let it live on.

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back or you can do what she’d want: smile, open your eyes, love and go on.
This COVID is real. We must take very seriously.

Rest in Peace Eunice Chipawe Chingeya.

Hon Sikhala Exposes CIO Plot To Torment Opposition Members

Job Sikhala

By Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala :

To be published after arrest.

I have prepared this note, dear Zimbabweans after receiving solid intelligence tip offs.

I would like to thank our people who made it possible for this article to be available to all of us.

The plot to persecute myself, Hopewell Chin’ono, Jacob Ngarivhime and a few others who have been put on Emmerson Mnangagwa’s hit list is grounded on false security and intelligence reports and analysis fed to the regime by some of its hilarious operatives.

The regime is working on false intelligence feeds from its favour seeking operatives who plainly lie to the authorities about certain individuals. This is done to ingratiate themselves with the system to keep it under illusionary fears.

The intelligence report on the table is that myself, Hopewell and others were planning a mass demonstration in January.

This has been sold to the regime from December up to the present. There was an anticipation of a demonstration organised by us which in all material facts is false and untrue.

The visit to SA recently by Hopewell Chin’ono was interpreted to mean financial mobilization for the demonstrations. Hopewell flew back to Zimbabwe on the 7th of January 2021. The regime strongly believed he had come with money for the mobilization of the illusionary demonstration.

The State had to spend no time except pouncing on us. There was no issue to allege against us, so they had to find every excuse to nab us.

Secondly, there is now a strong believe in the system that we pose the most dangerous threat to its very existence as they view us as a new generation of leaders who do not want to postpone the happiness and destiny of our people. Their view is that we want to drag Zimbabwe down the anarchy path which is stupid and demented mindset.

Yes, the freedom of our people is as urgent as never before, but for them to form their own lies and run away with it as fact is stupidity of the highest order.

Yes, Zimbabweans need freedom and their freedom has been postponed for a long, but never shall our tactics, strategies be determined by anyone.

It is so pathetic that a whole regime devises its ways of how to run a state on rumours. This phase of our persecution is based on rumors and not on any substantial intelligence.

Shame to those who are being used in this dirty game. Ours is just love for our country and the happiness of its people. Nothing more or nothing less.

Police Officers Brutally Kill, Burn Suspect

2 ZRP officers from Beitbridge were reportedly arrested yesterday for murder after they allegedly killed a suspect and chopped off his limps before stashing his remains in a sack and hiding them under a bridge, ZTN News reports.

Xander Siyasayi and Daniel Peyan were arrested yesterday and they are expected to appear in court next week. The pair had reportedly picked the suspect Blessing Nare following the disappearance of some cash from a bottle store and allegedly detained him for 2 days.

On 4 January his mother reportedly reported him missing and it prompted Zezani Police Station Officer in Charge Inspector Marisa to investigate:

On January 5 2021, Inspector Marisa went to Swereki Police Base and was told that (the suspect) had escaped from custody and police details had failed to apprehend him.

It was discovered that no warned and cautioned statement was recorded as per standard operating procedure. There was also no official communication to the Officer-In-Charge regarding the report of unlawful entry and theft; and the suspect’s alleged escape from lawful custody.

A search party, later on, found his remains under the bridge the 2 officers reportedly hid the body:

A member of the search party observed a foul smelling emanating from under the bridge. She checked and discovered a white sack. Criminal Investigation Department (Homicide) detectives attended the scene and found a head and limbs in the sack. The torso was missing. The suspect’s half burnt clothes were also recovered, suggesting his killers had tried to burn him.

In 2020 ZRP officers caused the death of Paul Mukanopa who was fleeing from them when they shot his vehicle and accidentally killed him.

Richard Choruma Laid To Rest

LATE Highlanders midfield maestro, Richard Choruma made his last lap at Barbourfields yesterday as the hearse that was carrying his coffin passed through the stadium before he was buried at the Lady Stanley Cemetery.

The hearse made a stop at the tunnel through which buses enter the stadium and players disembark into the dressing rooms.

Highlanders fans broke into song and dance in the tunnel as they celebrated the artistry and mastery that Choruma exhibited on the pitch.

Choruma (42) passed away at Tembisa Hospital in South Africa on 29 December after battling stomach complications and kidney failure.

Hundreds of mourners thronged McDonald Hall as they sought to bid farewell to the former national team player.
Organisers had to restrict people from entering the hall with most of the mourners being asked to follow proceedings from outside to ensure there was social distancing.

Former teammate Zenzo Moyo described Dabuka Express, as Choruma was fondly known, as a humble person and true gentleman of the game.

He said Choruma was a natural born winner, who even at training had high standards and always wanted to come out tops.

A teary-eyed Dazzy Kapenya, who played with him at Bosso, said he met Choruma in the mid-90s as they played money games and he exhibited great skill at a young age.

“I rank him as one of the best midfielders of our time and together with Charles Chilufya (late) and Blessing Gumiso they made up the best midfield combination during that time.

“Off the field he was a humble, understanding guy who associated with anyone willing to engage and he said from the start that he did not want coaching but was turning out to be a good scout and administrator,’’ he said.

Ronald “Gidiza” Sibanda said Choruma’s ideas were way ahead of his age and exhibited signs of being a good football administrator.

Highlanders committee member, Wisdom Mabhena, who spoke on behalf the club, said Choruma left an indelible mark at the club.

He said they had earmarked Choruma to be assistant coach under then Egyptian coach, Mohamed Fathi but he declined on being approached saying he does not want to go into coaching.

“When Madinda Ndlovu became coach, he enlisted Choruma to be one of his scouts although unfortunately the programme fell through as Madinda went out of the country,” said Mabhena.-The Sunday News

Middendorp Punishes Struggling Kaizer Chiefs

Ernst Middendorp had the last laugh after guiding his Maritzburg United to a 2-0 win over struggling Kaizer Chiefs in a DStv Premiership clash played today.

The German, who was criticized left, right and centre by the ever-demanding Amakhosi faithful for failing to deliver the league title last season and ultimately sacked, is now in the Team of Choice dugout and got one over his former paymasters.

A Judas Mosiamedi second half brace was all United needed to pile more misery on the Soweto giants, who have won only one league game this season.

Warriors star Khama Billiat, who looked the likeliest to score in the first half, limped off just three minutes into the second period due to an injury.-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Kuda Musasiwa Out Of Danger

So thankful to all who have continued to pray for Kuda’s healing, great report today.

KUDA MEDICAL UPDATE SUNDAY 10 JANUARY @ 14:30

Greetings family and friends. This is the most joyful update on Kuda’s health so far. For the past 12 hours he has been off the ventilator (and on oxygen concentrator) and is still maintaining good saturation of 94+! Not only that; the hospital put him on video and he was able to speak to his wife Nomaliso – still a bit drowsy of course but fully conscious. He is now feeding by mouth rather than by tube.

He will continue to be monitored in the ICU for 24 hours and if there is no negative development he will be moved to HDU. On this basis we can now say that Kuda has graduated from the “critically ill” category and is on a recovery path. We are overjoyed. This is the Lord’s doing, and the Lord has used his angels (including you) to travel this journey with Kuda and the family.

Meanwhile mai Musasiwa and I have just returned from having our covid-19 PCR test done and the results are expected tomorrow morning and so will be part of tomorrow’s update.

To all those who have prayed, given or shared words of encouragement we cant thank you enough. It has not been in vain.

Stay safe and stay blessed

Rev Dr Roy Musasiwa

Ovidy Karuru’s Fine Form Continues

Warriors midfielder Ovidy Karuru’s resurgence in the South African top-flight continues after he made an impact in Black Leopards’ game yesterday.

The former Masvingo United man was on target against his former side Stellenbosch, scoring a first half penalty in the 1-1 draw.

This was the 31-year old’s third goal for Leopards, after netting a brace against his former paymasters Kaizer Chiefs earlier this season.

Karuru’s strike might be a bitter pill to swallow for Stellenbosch, as the Cape Town-based side released him under unclear circumstances at the end of the the 2019/20 campaign.

The fact that he was unattached during the days Zimbabwe played Algeria in back to back AFCON qualifiers in November but still included in the squad was regarded by many as a bad decision, which was however defended by the Warriors technical team.-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

Mnangagwa Can’t Steal People’s Loyalty-President Chamisa

I am personally humbled by the knowledge that you have trusted us with these precious gifts, and I re-emphasize my commitment to honour and respect them.

Do not be perturbed by the fog they have created because it will soon clear.

President Chamisa

Mnangagwa Plot To Use Coronavirus To Kill Political Rivals Exposed

Tinashe Sambiri|Zanu PF leader, Emmerson Mnangagwa’s plot to use the deadly Coronavirus to kill his political rivals has been exposed.

Intelligence sources revealed the ploy to ZimEye.com on Saturday.

The secret plan will be executed as follows-1. arrest perceived political rivals 2.deny political rivals bail 3. expose political rivals to Coronavirus while in prison.

Prominent journalist Hopewell Chin’ono and Job Sikhala were arrested for denouncing police brutality.Harare mayor Jacob Mafume is also unwell and there are fears he was deliberately exposed to COVID-19 by the regime.

Before his arrest Hon Sikhala tweeted:
“I am gathering that after my arrest they want to expose me to Covid 19. If anything happens to me let it be known to Zimbabweans that I am Covid free as I speak. A few days ago I warned about the plot by the regime & they really want to arrest me for no apparent reason…

In a statement the MDC Alliance said:
Detained Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume is suffering from fever, chest pains and a headache.
“The situation is bad. He was given antibiotics by prison doctors, but it’s not helping,” his lawyer Tonderai Bhatasara said. “He has changed. He is in pain…now he is visibly sick.”

Mafume is currently in jail on accusations of trying to bribe a key witness in his pending criminal abuse of office case. He has been languishing in prison after he was denied bail by a Harare magistrate.
He was arrested on 14 December 2020.

How Mnangagwa’s CIOs Plotted To Arrest Hon Sikhala, Hopewell Chin’ono

Sikhala: My Arrest And That Of Hopewell Chin’ono Was Predetermined

President Chamisa Denounces Relentless Persecution Of Hon Sikhala, Hopewell Chin’ono : Full Text

1/The arbitrary arrest of journalist Hopewell Chin’ono & Hon Job Sikhala represents dictatorial rule, severe abuse of power and an wanton attack on the rule of law.Persecution thru prosecution reflects the authoritarian tendencies of this dictatorship.

2/The regime is hell-bent on selective application of the law, with law being weaponised against political opponents and critics. These arrests on spurious charges during a severe pandemic are designed to expose political opponents to hazard. This is sadistic, heartless and abominable.

3/We know these are acts of provocation by the desperate who are taking citizens for granted. The regime mistakes citizens’ calmness for inability to defend themselves. Patience is not infinite. When you push an animal into a corner, with no respite it will have to come thorough you

4/We are a peace-loving people who are guided by the principles of peace and non-violent democratic expression.Young people are rightfully restless. It is become increasingly difficult to stand by while the regime picks and victimize citizens one by one like lambs to the slaughter.

5/We demand a stop to the scourge of arbitrary rule;to political persecution and weaponization of the law all of which are anathema to democratic practice &constitutionalism. We demand the release of all political prisoners. Restraint in the face of such provocation appears finite

6/The image of our country suffers with each arrest. The so-called ‘Second Republic’ has become a Banana Republic. The ill-treatment of opposition is such a disgrace. The regime likes to blame everyone for our country’s woes but it’s the principal author of our problems. No one can take us seriously with this behaviour.

Excellence, Brilliance, Difference

God bless you!

Open Letter To ZESA From Engineer Mutisi

Dear Editor

Zimbabwe is in crisis,

COVID-19 is here. We are an informal sector and 90 percent of our workforce live on hand to mouth.

Our government has injected close to ZWL$7 billion to fight this pandemic and my request is to ask for our government to do the last extra ordinary thing and the only thing that can save urban lives.

I am kindly asking the Government of Zimbabwe to provide free electricity of all urbanites as a state of emergency.

The cost for electricity is beyond the reach of an ordinary Zimbabwean and in these times of crisis this is when our listening government has to show concern and care for its citizens and immediately introduce FREE electricity for all Zimbabwean for the next 30 days. I am aware of the electricity bill involved remember this is a matter of life and death.

COVID is here but hunger and poverty will kill us. Let us save the people of Zimbabwe and Give them Free ZESA for 30 day.

Regards

Engineer Jacob Kudzayi Mutisi

China- USA Trade War- Effects To Africa

By Aletha Mudyahoto- Trade wars have been in existence since time immemorial.  The trade war  between China and the United States of America (USA) which are the largest trading economies in the world took a more radical approach since 2014.

Apart from the involved countries, the trade war has affected the global economy and African economies have not been spared. Africa is still asymmetrically involved in global trade.

The bilateral trade war brings both positive and negative effects on the continent.  Famous to the African proverb – when elephants fight, it is the grass that suffers. China and USA are two of the largest investors in Africa with China being the biggest trading partner and the trade war affects the growth of African economies proving it as more of a dependent setup..

There has been economic distress from the China – USA trade war which has depressed global commodity prices potentially aggravating African economies vulnerabilities since most African countries rely on the exports for revenues and primarily engage with non- African trading partners like China.

The trade wars have caused uncertainties which undermine investor confidence triggering reduction in commodity prices and local currencies. The African Development Bank experts warn that the trade tensions could cause a 2.5 percent reduction in GDP in resource intensive African countries and a 1.9 percent reduction for oil exports by 2021 with the International Monetary Fund asserting a cumulative drop of 1.5 percent in African economies GDP.

Also the diversification of African economies have been impeded by a combination of protectionist policies particularly those imposed by the USA government under the Trump administration. The US has emphasized protectionism over American industries and imposed tariffs which are inconsistent with the World Trade Organization (WTO) rule which encourages fairness between trading partners.

The tariffs imposed on aluminum and steel  affected South Africa which is Africa’s biggest exporter of steel to the US. Hence, by losing the American market this led to massive losses of jobs, earnings and opportunities amongst South Africans. Most investors in the steel industry were forced to divert to Asian markets particularly China in avoidance of  these tariffs.

All this would be a violation of the African Growth and Opportunity Act agreement which advocates for the elimination of tariffs and other price related and regulatory barriers to trade between the US and  it’s signatory African states.

Continuation of the trade wars means Africa eventually ends up taking collateral damage of the ongoing war. The fast growth in the two superpowers economies will create unwelcome challenges for Africa in terms of currencies, slow trade and dampened investor sentiments.

However, the trade wars have brought with it some positives in the sense that, it opens up opportunities to African stakeholders to put more effort in creating investor friendly environments and economic reforms to become part of the global supply chain.

This indeed has made Africa  trying to adopt policies which best suit their current economies and ensure trade liberalization is in support of the World Trade Organization (WTO) through the African Continental Free Trade Area (ACFTA) which is a free trade zone which ensures inter- continental free trade, balance of trade and growth of all African economies.

Also despite Chinese ongoing trade wars with USA, China has remained a big investor in Africa, biggest trading partner and gained relevance through projects such as the Belt and Road Intiatives (BRI), policy of non- interference and at the Forum on China-Africa Co-operation in 2018, China emphasized it’s commitment to economic co-operation, trade and common development.

In Zimbabwe, China is a major investor and trading partner, it is the major buyer of tobacco, has extended a financial grant in the expansion of the Robert Mugabe airport and construction of the new parliament building.

In view of the above, trade wars are generally bad, given the China -US trade war, there has been global economic recession which has affected Africa through slow trade and reduction in commodity prices however Africa has been resilient towards the effects of the trade war as it’s relationship with China has remained strengthened and it is looking for African solution to African problems.

Mwonzora Gleefully Awaiting $2.72m Political Parties Payout- Reason Why MDC Will Sell Out Again Come 2023

By Patrick Guramatunhu- “Only Zanu-PF and MDC-T will share the $100 million allocated in the 2021 National Budget under the Political Parties Finance Act as all other parties failed to get at least five percent of the constituency votes in the 2018 election,” reported Herald.

“The $25 million budget of last year was quadrupled to $100 million in this year’s budget to help compensate for inflation. The constituent parties that made up the MDC-Alliance are treated separately for the purposes of sharing the money, which is why only the largest, the MDC-T, exceeded the five percent threshold.”

In 2019 MDC-T got $3.4 millions and as the party’s leader then, Nelson Chamisa, reportedly got 20% or $680 000! Douglas Mwonzora is the new leader and, no doubt, he is rubbing his hands in gleeful anticipation of the $2.72 million!

Some people have often asked why the various MDC factions and the rest in the opposition camp participated in the 2013 elections even when it was clear Zanu PF was rigging the elections. Here is half the answer, they had their beady eyes on the annual Political Party Finance Act (PPFA) payout. And for the lucky few who go on to win the few parliamentary and senatorial seats there is the generous salary and allowances.

Ever since the 2008 to 2013 GNU Zanu PF has learned that the party can retain its dictatorial powers and rig the elections just as it did in 2008 but this time get away without any censor as long as the party enticed the opposition to participate in the elections regardless how flawed and illegal the process happened to be.

Zanu PF had just the honey pot to entice the opposition – the few gravy train seats plus the annual payout from the PPFA. A small price to pay for political legitimacy for the vote rigging Zanu PF!

Morgan Tsvangirai complained that Zanu PF “stole the 2013 elections” and his party made a congress resolution not to participate in future elections until the reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging are implemented. “No reform! No Elections!”

Tsvangirai and company soon forgot about the party resolution on reforms as they all geared up to contest the 2018 elections; the Zanu PF honey pot was just too enticing to resist!

Zanu PF leaders, for their part, are so cocksure of the opposition participating and giving them legitimacy they have dismissed those calling for reforms with contempt!

“Zanu PF ichatonga! Igotonga! Imi muchingohukura! Nokuhukura!” (Zanu PF will rule! And rule! Whilst you (calling for reforms) bark! And bark!)  Mnangagwa has often boasted, publicly.

Zanu PF failed to produce something as basic and fundamental to free, fair and credible elections as a verified voters’ roll; a legal and common sense requirement. And still the opposition participated and in droves.

There were 23 candidates in the presidential race and 130 political parties and numerous independent candidates contested for the 210 parliamentary seats. Mnangagwa presented these figures as proof the July 2018 elections were free, fair and credible!

“It is our hope that Treasury disburses the (PPFA) money early so that the political parties concerned will be able to carry out their duties. We will obviously engage Treasury with regard to that issue,” said Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi.

No need to worry Minister!

Treasury has rarely, paid more than 20% or so of the budget allocation for such ministries as education and health and hence the reason why education and health care have all but collapsed. But when it comes to paying politicians their salaries, allowance, PPFA payout, etc. Treasury has always paid every penny and quick smart.

The root cause of Zimbabwe’s economic meltdown; which has left over 50% of our people living in abject poverty; is the country’s failure to hold free, fair and credible elections. The country has been stuck for 40 years now with a corrupt and incompetent Zanu PF regime and the criminal waste of the nation’s human and material resources has left the country in economic ruins. We have failed to remove Zanu PF from power because the party rigged the elections.

The nation had its best opportunity to end the Zanu PF dictatorship during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when all Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends were tasked to do was implement the democratic reforms. MDC leaders have not only failed to implement even one reform but they are now giving the vote rigging Zanu PF regime legitimacy by participating in flawed and illegal elections.

Nelson Chamisa and his MDC A, Douglas Mwonzora and his MDC-T and all the other 23 candidates in July 2018 presidential race, the 130 political parties and numerous independent candidates in the 210 parliamentary races are all gearing for the 2023 elections. They all know with not even one token reform implemented, Zanu PF will rig the elections; they don’t care. All they care about is the honey pot of the few gravy train seats plus the PPFA payout!

After 40 years of rigged elections, it is for the ordinary Zimbabweans to end this madness by demand that the country’s opposition politicians place implementing the democratic reforms and delivering free, fair and credible above the selfish personal gains. Zimbabweans must withhold their support to all parties and individuals unless they give a cast-iron guarantee they will not participate in future elections until reforms are implemented.

Zanu PF has the coercive means to force people to attend its rallies but not so with the opposition. A discredited opposition cannot give the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy!

The people of Zimbabwe must wake up to the reality that MDC leaders like Chamisa, Mwonzora, Biti and the rest in the opposition camp are now after the honey pot Zanu PF is offering them and have completely forgotten about reforms and the fight for free, fair and credible elections.

AN INDEPENDENT STATE IS THE ONLY VIABLE OPTION FOR THE PEOPLE OF MTHWAKAZI

From the MTHWAKAZI LIBERATION FRONT PRESIDENT CHURCHILL MPIYESIZWE GUDUZA

9 JANUARY, 2021

Greetings to you all!

It is important to underline in addition to the emphasis on the importance of skills development for Mthwakazi which was published last week, that we look forward to fruitful engagements this year with all those whose goal is to liberate the people of Mthwakazi.

As the Mthwakazi Liberation Front (MLF) we remain ready and wish this pandemic could be obliterated soon so that we could have real and fruitful engagements with such organisations. To that end we look forward to meeting with them at a leadership conference in the not distant future.

In the meantime, we shall again distribute our vision to all of them and insist that they provide us with theirs so that the liberation of our people is no longer held back by continuous bickering. We owe it to our people to come up with one voice so that together we can realize the goals of liberation, freedom and justice for all.

Background

Since 1980 until today we have been subjected to genocide and ethnic cleansing in which our people have been raped, women bayonetted alive to kill the babies in their wombs, tortured, brutalized, buried alive in mass graves, thrown alive in disused mine shafts, disappeared, forced to flee into exile, denied any employment and business opportunities, denied health and other lifesaving interventions, robbed of our properties, robbed of our land, made to become squatters in our own cities without access to housing, deprived of opportunities in social, economic and cultural development, prevented from organizing politically and many others. The list goes on and on. We have literally been annihilated through social, economic, political and cultural genocide and strangulation by the Shona hegemony.

What the period from 1980 until today also signifies is the abdication of responsibilities by ZIPRA to liberate and defend the masses. More than anything else ZIPRA failed to bring about the desired change regarding the socio-economic, political and cultural structure prevailing under Rhodesian rule.

But instead, some of the ZIPRA personnel participated with the ZANU-PF regime in dishing out continued slavery, domination, subjugation and humiliation on the people of Mthwakazi. Almost 41 years after the guns fell silent against European colonialism in Rhodesia, those master and servant relations have been exchanged, usurped and taken over by another colonial power in the form of Shona hegemony.

Not even the European colonialists had the capacity to impose such brutal conditions on our people as the Shona hegemony under the ZANU-PF regime has done. We have lost everything, even the rights to sing for our children on their birthdays, let alone at a drinking spot. Congregating with family and friends over any form of celebration has since become a criminal offence, one that has to be cleared by the ZANU-PF regime.

When the Gukurahundi killer brigade was deployed in Mthwakazi, Emerson Mnangagwa uttered these words, “Blessed are they who will follow the path of Government laws, for their days will be increased.

But woe unto those who choose the path of collaboration with dissidents for we will certainly shorten their stay on earth”. His boss Robert Mugabe echoed, “The solution in Matebeleland is a military one. Their grievances are unfounded. The verdict of the voters was cast in 1980. They should have accepted defeat then. The situation in Matebeleland is one which requires change. The people must be reoriented”.

Some of the ZIPRA personnel not only deserted their historic mission of liberating their people by serving in different ranks in the killer ZANU-PF regime. Even in retirement, some of these personnel (who today masquerade as ex-ZIPRA forums) continue to serve their master, the ZANU-PF regime.

There can be no question that what qualified these persons to positions in the Zimbabwe army was precisely, their collaboration with the Gukurahundi vampires in the despicable atrocities, which included rape being used as a tool for promotion, and information not only about the real ex-ZIPRA combatants, but also about all the communities that they trained to liberate, throughout Mthwakazi. They were after all, following Mugabe’s orders, of reorienting the people of Mthwakazi through genocide and ethnic cleansing.

This has been unrelenting and continues today. What ZIPRA fought for was never achieved. It remains a mirage. People continue to live under worst forms of slavery ever experienced anywhere in the world. This has been assisted by the so-called ex-ZIPRA cadres, some of whom not only colluded but participated in the goals of the obliteration of their people.

As genocide and ethnic cleansing was unleashed against their people, with their mothers, sisters, nieces, cousins and grandmothers forcibly humiliated through despicable acts of rape, some of these so-called ex-ZIPRA cadres were being rewarded with ranks of generals, brigadiers, captains, majors, lieutenants and others by Robert Mugabe on the recommendation of none other than, Emerson Mnangagwa. Clearly, in doing so, Mnangagwa increased their days in Zimbabwe.

They must also disclose their roles when the most heinous crimes against humanity were perpetrated by Mugabe and Mnangagwa’s regime against the people of Mthwakazi? Why could they not organize self-defense units to defend the people against those Gukurahundi vampires?

When Dr Joshua Nkomo observed that a country could achieve independence without its people being free, he must have realized that he had been let down by his senior comrades within ZAPU and those who today talk about ZIPRA’s legacy. What did these ZIPRA forums do when Nkomo’s passport was seized under the Law, Order and Maintenance Act (a piece of legislation that had been retained from the Rhodesian regime)?

What did these ZIPRA forums do when the ZANU-PF senior members, who included Shamuyarira organized various parties in various parts of that country, with their followers at which bulls (izinkunzi) were slaughtered in celebration? What did these ZIPRA forums do when Mugabe blessed these parties at one rally in Harare by instructing his followers that it was “time to strike the bushes in your field with your clubs and take the rotten pumpkins out of the patch”?

What did these ZIPRA forums do when Enos Nkala stated that, “Zanu rules this country and anyone who challenges that is a dissident” and should be exterminated? What did these ZIPRA forums do when Mugabe followed with these chilling words, “life will get tough for those who were still unrepentant”?

What did these ZIPRA forums do when Mugabe celebrated the surrender of ZAPU through the so-called unity accord in these words, “The supremacy of ZANU-PF must be asserted because government was born of the party and the party and the people have become one”?

There can be no doubt that Nkomo was sacrificed by these loud mothed so-called ZIPRA forums who had all ganged up against him. In response, he did the right thing, by surrendering, like any general facing defeat would have done, to surrender in order to live to fight again.

The people of Mthwakazi shall forever be grateful to Dr Nkomo for this surrender in 1987, as it saved several thousands of lives. This is an inexcusable fact that unlike the Shona people in that country, the rest were forced to belong to Zimbabwe through violence. Just like Rhodesia which was born from violence, so was Zimbabwe.

Violence has no colour. This means that a state nation, rather than a nation state was born through violence, genocide and ethnic cleansing. There are lessons to be drawn from this painful chapter. The fundamental one, being that even birds are different, although they both share the same air space in which they fly. Human beings too are different, including siblings in one family. All have unique characteristics. Elsewhere in the world, even white people are different, some are French, Russian, English, etc, but they are different in various aspects.

It is only in Africa that African people were banged together in one box by the former European powers who carved the continent into their spheres of influence and domination, when in reality they are different. There can be no question therefore that it is these differences that Mugabe, assisted by the so-called ZIPRA forums today, wanted to forcibly turn everybody through the pain of extinction into becoming Shona.

Well, that project failed in the end, as the surrender by Dr Nkomo assisted the people of Mthwakazi to breathe again. And as such, the Shona people and those of Mthwakazi shall forever remain different, even in the eyes of evolution, yet they will continue to thrive together in this universe in respect, dignity and cooperation, as they must, because of the humanity, not violence that ties them together. From then onwards, the people could at least breathe again, albeit in perpetual uncertainty about the security of their lives. It is in this context therefore, that we need to leave behind anybody who still believes in ZIPRA and Zimbabwe as  water under the bridge.

This is why the struggle for the liberation of the masses must continue in whatever shape or form. In our case we are prosecuting it under the banner of the Mthwakazi Liberation Front (MLF). We reached this conclusion that a nation-state was not born in Zimbabwe, but only a state-nation which was born through violence.

The Mthwakazi Liberation Front

Let me state categorically, that unlike other movements that claim to be Mthwakazi this or Mthwakazi that, the Mthwakazi Liberation Front (MLF) has no messiah, yesterday, today or tomorrow. It only exists to liberate the people of Mthwakazi.  To that end, the MLF has produced its vision by way of a detailed Draft Constitution for the establishment of a Federal Republic of Mthwakazi.

It is a document that is available and accessible to all those who want to see it. It was drawn on the basis of the belief that each and every one of the Mthwakazi people has a duty to shape their destiny. In this sense it is a document that guides the vision of the MLF.

There are some people who have asked us why Mthwakazi groups have become so disjointed and fragmented, with others coming up from time to time. As the MLF we must put it on record that we have extended our hand of cooperation to such groups for the purposes of engagement and coming with a unified voice for Mthwakazi.

We have done this having recognized that the divergence of views is healthy for any people who are emerging from the experiences that the people of Mthwakazi have gone through or witnessed.  To that end we have continually challenged such groups to a leadership conference in which we could interrogate this question without fear or favor, but they have continued to remain silent on this issue. In 2015, we tried to engage with others at Chitawa Lodge in Botswana, but they refused to sign a joint declaration (the Chitawa Declaration). Since then, we have continued to try to engage but to no avail.

We in the MLF have come to a conclusion that our enemy being Shona hegemony and by extension its representative, the ZANU-PF regime has developed ingenious ways of keeping us divided by sponsoring the emergence of such groups all the time. So, it is our belief that most of them are not genuine Mthwakazi groups, but funded ones whose goal is to divert attention from the real liberation goals by making a lot of hot air noise.

None of these groups have come up with their own visions or mission statements, other than that they want to model their so-called leaders as messiahs just like Joshua Nkomo in ZAPU. They are hellbent on promoting and projecting their leaders as a focus of attention rather than their vision as to what kind of Mthwakazi they want to build. For them, the struggle for Mthwakazi is like a beauty contest.

As such, they have never been original in anything other reacting to instances that they then take over as their own. If for example, there is a fire in one of Mthwakazi localities, they would go there and take over that struggle as their own. How does one leave one’s own neighbourhood which is full of Shona people, and travel several kilometers away to complain about the same people?

If they get arrested on the way, they think that makes them popular. There is no reason of leaving your house burning only to complain about other fires at far away distances.

So, like ZAPU, they have written nothing that can be scrutinized, other than creating a lot of noise. In this case they are not different from certain former ZIPRA cadres who reminisce about being war veterans when they have no rights to anything whatsoever, including the rights to feed their children.

There is no question that such people may have a visible following which makes people believe that there is something that they are doing when in actual reality they are fakes. It is also easy for such groups to receive funding from many of our people because of the rhetoric that they make. Soon, once that cash flow starts drying up, they then send their leaders to borrow money from their supporters and by the time they are seen to be inimical to the dreams of those borrowers, it is too late.

Fundamentally, all these groups are united by one thing, again, just as some former ZIPRA cadres – duplicity.  They preach Mthwakazi, but they want to go and sit in the Zimbabwe parliament as members of that parliament, having sworn allegiance to the Shona hegemony. There is nothing absolutely genuine about these groups.

At best they are pure opportunistic and at worst, extremely dangerous to the plight of the people of Mthwakazi. Yet this is expected, as many of them have since become materialist owners of such products as cars, television sets, radios, cell phones and many others, because of the noise they make about Mthwakazi. If Dr Joshua Nkomo could be hounded and chased for dear life as a member of parliament in Zimbabwe, including his colleagues, notably Njini Ntutha who was killed as a minister, what makes these parties think that sitting in a Zimbabwe parliament would be any different for them and therefore beneficial to the people of Mthwakazi?

Outside the groups that they lead they could not in a million years own those materialistic products such as a smart phone or a car, but this has been made possible by clever manipulation. Generally, people are fallible. They will believe fake politics and conmen more than the real stuff.

We have seen for example, how Donald Trump has lied and through those lies not only achieved power in the highest office in that country. We have also seen how through those lies he has managed to convince several thousands of his followers that he won the election when in reality he lost.

At this juncture, before moving to the way forward, we in the MLF would like to acknowledge most profoundly the role that the 1893 Mthwakazi Human Rights Restoration Movement (MHRRM) has played in assisting the people of Mthwakazi with tangible deliverables, in the form of water especially in Bulawayo.

Their efforts need to be applauded by all and sundry. It may be a drop in the ocean, considering the scale of need, but people benefitted from this assistance, which also extended to many families, with food items, especially those who had lost their loved ones. Recently, we also saw a lecture that was delivered under the auspices of the 1893 MHRRM by one of the scholars from our country, Dr William Jethrow Mpofu. This lecture undoubtedly opened the eyes of many as to why Gugurahundi was inflicted on the people of Mthwakazi.

As mentioned before, the 1893 MHRRM has also been instrumental in partnering in the production of the Loyiko theatre group that has exposed the enormity of the crimes of genocide by the Gukurahundi to many South African and international audiences. Furthermore, they also held many demonstrations against Shona hegemony in the United Kingdom and South Africa.

We believe that many more efforts to push back against the forces of Shona hegemony will continue to be organised by the 1893 MHRRM this year, and as such we shall continue engaging and collaborating with them in all efforts aimed at achieving human rights for all our people in Mthwakazi.

As we engage, we also intend ensuring that the funding mechanism for Mthwakazi and its associated programmes throughout 2021 becomes a reality under the Mthwakazi Sovereign Fund (MSF). This fund will be managed by a board of trustees, drawn from those interested individuals and parties, not necessarily members of the MLF, but people of high reputation and honesty across the board to ensure transparency and accountability.

There can be no messiah running such a fund. We believe in charting our survival through the development and spread of projects across Mthwakazi. Those not familiar with the MSF, please kindly request a copy and we shall make it available to you, for your own interrogation and understanding.

Our dream is also to ensure that the Mthwakazi Academic College, which should serve as an online mechanism accessible to our people at home becomes functional this year. We would ask all those with the necessary skills and knowledge to help shape it into a formidable educational vehicle for our people, second to none.

We have many people with various skills, technicians, IT specialists, engineers, academics, scholars and so on who can help shape its direction and successful implementation for the benefit of our people. In this way, even language specialists in the local languages of Mthwakazi could lend their hand and empower our children wherever they are with the power and knowledge of their languages.

The Mthwakazi Academic College could also serve as a vehicle for supplying second hand and indeed brand-new gadgets, such as computers, printers, paper, smart phones, WIFI and many others to our people in Mthwakazi for use in all their educational efforts. Such help would extend to equipment for teaching of natural science subjects such as biology, chemistry and others.

These are practical steps that we need to implement in 2021, with the MSF being the core institution as a funding vehicle that would ensure the realization of the Mthwakazi dream with all its associated institutions, in the areas of health, education, transportation and many others.

We have also composed the draft National Anthem, which will need your input to make it appeal to all and sundry in Mthwakazi. In the meantime, we would need to have it translated and composed into the different languages of Mthwakazi, Tonga, Nambya, Kalanga, Nguni, Sotho, Venda and others. Thus far we were assisted in translating it from English to Isindebele by one of our scholars in Mthwakazi.

From there we then enlisted the assistance of a music group to compose it and have it recorded. With time we hope to disseminate it far and wide to all hinterlands of Mthwakazi, and would appreciate any assistance in that regard. Ultimately, it must be sung in all languages and in all corners of Mthwakazi.

As we face the future in the coming days, weeks and months of 2021, we call upon the youth (both genders) in particular, to join and help us shape the Mthwakazi Liberation Front into a formidable movement that will speedy up the liberation of our people.

It is the youth after all, who must selflessly take over the strings of leadership and guide us to achieve the goals of liberating our people from all forms of strangulation. It is important to emphasise that the leadership of the Mthwakazi Liberation Front is not for life. Leaders will come and go, but we need selfless individuals who will never, even after consuming any amounts of materialism, fail to remain true to the aspirations of our people.

Our first President, Mr Fidelis Ncube (aka General Nandinandi) laid the foundation for the MLF’s philosophy. We continue to benefit from his esteemed leadership insights and wisdom. I am the second MLF leader, after having served as its policy secretary for some time.

Similarly, there is no reason why the struggle for Mthwakazi under the MLF or any other formation for that matter, cannot be led by our women. As you may be aware, we have one of our leading lights and unwavering voices for Mthwakazi, as our National Chairperson, Mrs Patricia Tshabalala (uMama UmaTshabalala).

We call upon many of our women to join us and strengthen the voices for reason. With such voices, we cannot be tricked by those who rule us by conquest when the time comes for direct engagements that will culminate in the internationally recognized divorce from Zimbabwe.

There will come a time when we shall sit down with our rulers; by that time, we will be on an equitable basis to draw up the terms of our separation, determination of our borders and liabilities, trade, including how each country will access the waters of each river that runs through both countries, as well as hydroelectric power from the Kariba, involving an additional country, Zambia.

These are big undertakings that will require those with the necessary expertise in all the areas of the human spirit of Mthwakazi, in order to avoid being outsmarted by the grandchildren of our colonisers, the Shona hegemony, as ZAPU was outsmarted by the likes of Lord Carrington representing the colonial power Britain.

It must never ever happen again in the lifetime of the people of Mthwakazi to have a Constitution drawn by our colonisers. We need to take our destiny in our hands. This is why, in the MLF, we have a Draft Constitution for the vision of a Federal Republic of Mthwakazi that will be based on linguistics.

We cannot entrust that role to anybody but the people of Mthwakazi. Added to that, we have a logo, in the form of a Flame Lilly (a natural flower which is found in our country) for the Federal Republic of Mthwakazi (FREM). It will change subject to the Will of the people of Mthwakazi.

As we move forward this year in 2021 and beyond, we must vigorously reject any voices about devolution this or devolution that. Why should we accept another form of slavery, subjugation, domination and humiliation dressed up as devolution? The Shona hegemony created the conditions under which we live. We cannot therefore ask the same slave masters to dress our slavery conditions in sheep’s clothing called devolution. That is simple madness. All we want is divorce from this forced marriage. Period.

Not least, we need everyone, irrespective of gender and ethnicity to play their role in liberating Mthwakazi. What is good for Britain to EXIT the European Union, surely must be good also for the people of Mthwakazi to EXIT Zimbabwe. Britain is responsible for our plight.

We need therefore to apply maximum pressure against it, so that they stop ruling us through the proxy of Shona hegemony. It was after all the British colonialists who forcibly incorporated Mthwakazi into a single unitary state with Mashonaland. In years past, precedents have been set with even the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics (USSR) a superpower at the time crumbled to the will of different nationalities Ukraine, Georgia, Latvia, Estonia, and various others).

So too was Yugoslavia which reverted back to different nation states of Serbia, Croatia, Montenegro, Bosnia Herzegovina, and others. Czechoslovakia also separated through a velvet divorce into the Czech and Slovak republics. Similarly, Sudan reverted back to two nation states of Sudan and South Sudan after a long struggle with millions of lives lost. The state of Ambazonia shall also be born from the forced incorporation into Cameroon.

There is therefore nothing unique and without precedent that cannot make the people of Mthwakazi to break away from the cycle of rape, genocide, ethnic cleansing and endemic poverty of Zimbabwe, to found their own independent state as the only viable option based on food security for all, human rights, liberty, freedom, the rule of law and justice. What is of paramount importance is to build Mthwakazi institutions that shall be anchored by just laws enshrined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic, and not those of any individual, men or women.

Once again, happy new year to you all. Let us all continue to abide by the health protocols against this raging pandemic wherever we are, until this killer disease has been defeated.

I thank you.

Nurse Sneaks Out Of Restaurant Without Settling US$20 Alcohol, Food Bill

By A Correspondent- A woman who claims to be a nurse at Mater Dei Hospital is set to appear in court for sneaking out of a nightclub without paying for the food and alcohol she consumed.

According to a State outline, Hanna Chirisa (24) ordered food and alcohol at Red Café.

After eating and drinking she sneaked out without paying and went away. The total cost of the food and alcohol she consumed is US$20, 50.

Her luck ran out while she was walking in town on 31 December as an employee of the leisure centre spotted her and dragged her to Central Police Station leading to her arrest.

She was supposed to appear before Tredgold Court magistrate Lenear Khumalo last week, but she failed to turn up on three occasions.

A warrant of arrest has been issued against her.

Zupco Conductor Raped Shortly After Disembarking From Staff Bus

By A Correspondent- A 22 year old Zupco bus conductor was sexually assaulted while she was walking home alone in the dead of the night after she had alighted from the staff bus.

The rape victim cannot be named for ethical reasons.

A source close to investigations said the Zupco bus conductor disembarked from the staff bus near Thembiso Primary School in Emakhandeni suburb at around 1AM on 31 December 2020.

While she was on her way to her home misfortune struck as a man wearing a balaclava emerged from behind her and grabbed her.

“He grabbed her before warning her to keep quiet or face death, the victim obeyed. He then fondled her breasts while ordering to head into a maize field. When they got into the maize field he ordered her to lie down facing upwards,” said the privy source.

The source went on say the sex offender raped her twice without protection.

After sexually attacking her, the source said, the sex attacker seized her satchel which contained a national identification card, cellphone and made off with it.

The rape victim reported the matter at Luveve police station.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident.

“I can confirm that we are investigating a case of rape and robbery that happened in Emakhandeni high density suburb. We would like to urge members of the public never to walk alone during the night,”he said.

Insp Ncube appealed to anyone who might have information that could lead to the arrest of the accused to contact their nearest police station.

SANEF Raises The Flag On Mugwadi’s Misogynistic Vitriol Against Sophie Mokoena

By A Correspondent- The South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef), which was accused by the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) of being fascist and biased in its reporting, has called for the release of Zimbabwean journalist cum political activist Hopewell Chin’ono and an end to the online abuse of female journalists.

The call comes after that country’s governing party Zanu-PF’s director of information and publicity, Tafadzwa Tuboy Mugwadi, directed “sexist and misogynistic vitriol” at SABC foreign editor Sophie Mokoena.

“Sanef has sadly noted the blatant sexist and misogynistic vitriol directed from Mugwadi to… Mokoena in a bid to intimidate, harass and stop her from doing her job of reporting on Zimbabwe and the continent,” the organisation said.

“Mugwadi seems to have taken it personally that Mokoena asked tough questions about the whereabouts of Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa amid the coronavirus crisis in the country.”

Sanef has advised Mugwadi and Zanu-PF to direct any complaints about Mokoena’s reporting to the SABC management and the Broadcasting Complaints Commission of South Africa (BCCSA).

Attacks on journalists ‘not new’

But the organisation said attacks on female journalists were not new.

“In September 2020, we expressed our serious concern about the vicious online and social media trolling of women journalists and media workers in Zimbabwe. At the time, we cautioned against the tweets by George Charamba, the press secretary in the Office of the President of Zimbabwe and permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information of Zimbabwe, who was behind the attacks on Mokoena and a colleague Peter Ndoro.

“We cautioned that Charamba’s actions – assisted by Nick Mangwana, secretary for information in Zimbabwe – were creating significant professional harm. We asked them to stop,” Sanef said.

‘Relentless harassment’

Sanef has also called for an end to “the relentless intimidation and harassment” of Chin’ono, an award-winning freelance journalist and documentary filmmaker.

Chin’ono was arrested for the third time on Friday after tweeting about an incident in which a child died after allegedly being beaten by a police officer.

“Chin’ono was among many Zimbabweans who tweeted about the incident, demanding answers. In response, the police offered a different version of events in a statement,” Sanef said.

Chin’ono was arrested in July on charges of inciting violent anti-government protests, and again in November on charges of obstructing justice.

“Sanef believes that this hostile environment is a direct attack on freedom of expression,” the organisation said.

EFF once said Sanef was trying to shut down the EFF to campaign for the ruling party. Senior journalists, including SANEF members, have been linked to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s controversial #ThumaMina media WhatsApp group. The group received particular scorn from the EFF, which claimed it was evidence that certain journalists were part of a ‘cabal’ openly supporting the Ramaphosa faction.

Aunt Threatens Minor With Death After Setting Up Rapist On Her On New Yr’s Eve

By A Correspondent- A Mount Darwin aunt allegedly set a rapist upon her niece on New Year’s Eve and threatened the minor with death if she exposed the crime.

Both the aunt and rapist have since been arrested and appeared before a Bindura magistrate for initial remand.

The aunt, Luckness Nyandangu (20) and the alleged rapist Takudzwa Bamava were remanded in custody to 21 January by magistrate Tendai Chifamba.

Prosecutor Vincent Marunya alleged that on December 31 the duo was watching Nyau dancers till late in Mount Darwin.

They hatched a plan to rape the 13-year-old girl who was sleeping in Nyandangu’s bedroom.

Bamava entered the room and threatened the minor with death if she screamed for help.

He allegedly raped her once, left the room before, the aunt came with further death threats on the complainant if she dared to expose the rape.

The matter came to light on January 6 when the complainant went to her mother’s house in the next village where she divulged the incident.

The mother escorted the victim to file a police report which culminated in the arrest of the accused.

Zim Red Flagged Over Workers’ Welfare

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe has been red-flagged as one of the world’s 10 worst countries regarding workers’ welfare.

Violations of workers’ rights, including abductions and other forms of violence and threats of harm, are cited.

According to the International Trade Union Confederation’s documentation of violations of workers’ rights, Zimbabwe joined the bad boys’ club including Bangladesh, Brazil, India, Colombia, Egypt, Honduras, Kazakhstan, the Philippines and Turkey where workers’ rights were brazenly violated.

“In the aftermath of the violent attacks against workers during the general strikes organised by the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) in October 2018 and January 2019, Zimbabwe continued its crackdown against trade unions,” the report said.

“Twenty-eight ZCTU members still faced criminal charges after their arrest over a year ago. If convicted, they could be sentenced to a mandatory 10-year jail term. ZCTU president Peter Mutasa and general secretary Japhet Moyo, both of whom had been arrested and charged with subversion, were released in February 2019, but they remained under strict release conditions, banned from travelling and forced to check in regularly at the police station.”

The report said Mutasa and Moyo also received anonymous letters with death threats and bullets inside.

“Furthermore, both leaders received anonymous letters containing death threats and bullets. The letters warned them against continuing with the planned strike action on 22 July 2019 and threatened to kill the two and harm their families,” it said.

The letters said: “We have hired mercenaries to deal with you once and for all – unless you stop what you are planning.”

Moyo, the report said, also received further threatening letters, with one of them containing a threat to rape his daughter.

The report also noted the harassment and abduction of the then president of Zimbabwe Hospital Doctors Association, Peter Magombeyi who was kidnapped in 2019 by three unidentified men, and for days his whereabouts were not known.

“Before his kidnapping, he had received a message from an unknown source which contained death threats. For years, Dr Magombeyi has been at the forefront in fighting for better working conditions for all doctors in the country. He was eventually released and left outside Harare.”

“Earlier in the year, on 5 June 2019, Obert Masaraure, the president of the Amalgamated Rural Teachers’ Union of Zimbabwe, was abducted at his house,” the report said.

Most violated rights by the named countries, according to the report, included the right to strike which was criminalised.

The right to civil liberties, the report said, was also violated with arbitrary arrests, detention and imprisonment.

The ruling Zanu-PF government has threatened all workers intending to go on strike labelling them opposition allies.

Zim Starts Training Health Care Workers For Covid-19 Vaccine Rollout- Report

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe has started training health care workers and arranging other logistics for the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine once it becomes available under the Covax group.

On Thursday, the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) head of vaccines, Kate O’Brien, announced that most African countries will start taking delivery of the vaccine procured under Covax between the end of January and mid-February.

According to WHO, Covax is the only global initiative that is working with governments and manufacturers to ensure COVID-19 vaccines are available worldwide to both higher-income and lower-income countries.

Once the vaccine becomes available in Zimbabwe, frontline healthcare workers and the elderly, who are most vulnerable to the virus, will be prioritised. Health and Child Care Deputy Minister John Mangwiro had this to say:

We are arranging logistics for deployment and training healthcare workers in preparation for the rollout.

We have set up a logistics committee that is working on that. In terms of timelines for distribution, we will only have a concrete answer next week (this week).

We are working with speed to ensure that we are ready when we start receiving the vaccine.

However, we are still working on a logistics plan that will include the distribution timelines.

As you can see, a lot of countries are now working on getting the vaccine and we are also doing the same.

Covax aims to secure dosages for 20 per cent of the population in each participating country by the end of the year and Zimbabwe could potentially get up to 3.2 million doses under the first phase for its estimated 16 million people.

Dj Fantan’s Mother “Crying”

By A Correspondent- The mother of jailed Chillspot Records founder and Zimdancehall producer Arnold Kamudyariwa, popularly known as DJ Fantan, said she will not stop crying until authorities release her son.

Speaking in an interview with Standard Style last week, Fantan’s mother, Lorine Akende said the courts made a very unfair judgement considering that her son and his co-accused were first-time offenders.

She said:

They do not have any criminal record and it is Dhama who organised the bash together with the police. I won’t stop crying until they free my son.

Fantan’s grandmother, who requested anonymity, said they were surprised with the custodial sentence imposed on the DJ and his accomplices as they were first-time offenders.

She said:

We did not see it coming because this can’t be a crime that deserves jail sentencing. They were supposed to be slapped with fines and community service.

DJ Fantan, Tafadzwa “DJ Levels” Kadzimwe and Simbarashe “Dhama” Chanachimwe will serve effective six-month jail terms each for violating COVID-19 lockdown regulations after organising a New Year’s Eve bash that was attended by hundreds of people in Mbare.

Limpopo Province Shelters Overwhelmed By Stranded Zimbos

By A Correspondent- Shelters for displaced foreign nationals in and around Musina, in South Africa’s Limpopo Province, say they are overwhelmed with requests to take in stranded Zimbabweans.

A significant number of Zimbabweans have been crossing the border into South Africa illegally but cannot return home in the wake of the hard lockdown and are now in need of shelter in the neighbouring country.

A 16-year-old girl who has been a resident at the MG Matsaung Centre located at the Uniting Reformed Church in Nancefield township in Musina, for 6 years, said she doesn’t want to return to Zimbabwe.

Now in Grade 8, the girl walked into South Africa at the age of 10 from Zimbabwe with a group of other minors in search for greener pastures.

She said:

I don’t wish like to go to Zimbabwe, I mean I would go but then I feel at home here. I don’t miss anything. Like since I was a child all I wanted was to go to school but then here I’m going to school, I have nothing to worry about.

… When I grow up I want to be an actress and when I will be an actress, my first earnings I will donate it here to other children because I know that other children the same age as me will be here too so I want to donate them something to make them feel at home like I did.

Meanwhile, Jacob Matakanye from the centre says they have been inundated with requests to take in kids that have been abandoned in recent weeks but cannot take more due to lack of funding.

He said:

We have got a lot of pressure, people request our intervention so that we can take care of kids to come and stay here, but we have got a problem that at present we have a problem with funds and we are afraid if take more children without resources. Again this will cause more problem of not being able to feed them or take care of them.

Shelters for older people have also been turning away stranded foreign nationals.

South Africa is home to millions of Zimbabweans who have escaped the country’s economic challenges caused by decades of massive corruption and mismanagement

Education Under Siege

By Robson Chere | The recent amplified assault on the teaching profession in Zimbabwe is a genuine cause for worry as we have entered the new year, already 2021 was appearing gloomy and dark after a horrific 2020 that was characterized by state sponsored violence towards political social and economic activists, salaries that fell way below the poverty datum line, unsafe working conditions especially during a time when Covid19 is wrecking- havoc.

Robson Chere

The regime in Zimbabwe is exhibiting a deadly and suicidal character towards the welfare of teachers in Zimbabwe, not only are they not concerned about the welfare of their employees but they are displaying an attitude that can only be defined along the patterns of wanting to see the country collapse under the weight of poverty and  lack of progress.

It is clear for all to see that the year 2020 capped a very difficult decade for teachers in Zimbabwe, the profession has lost value not only in the eyes of society but in all essence the dignity and character of the profession has been eroded. It has now become a crime to demand a living wage in Zimbabwe as evidenced by the response of the state on Trade Union Leaders and all dissenting voices that are being crushed ruthlessly everyday for daring to speak out against any form of injustice as has been highlighted in the recently launched Justice and Labour Index by the Amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe ,the incarceration of Sheila Chisirimunhu defines madness on a very grand scale and defies common sense. Zimbabwe has now become a fully fledged dictatorship were human rights and worker rights are no longer a concern of the government and are violated with serious impunity that one would be forgiven to think that Zimbabwe is still stuck in the days of monarchies.

Teachers declared Incapacitation not for the love of resistance but as a genuine clarion call and cry for the government to heed their concerns but the response from the government was one of ignorance and lack of sympathy for the teachers hence the need to amplify the fight towards the realization of the teaching profession as one of the core pillars of the nation. The teaching profession is now ripe for a revolution within itself, the status quo is not normal and teachers should stop normalizing the abnormal for it creates a serious problem even for posterity. The problem emanates from a disorganized and disengaged government, in the face of the Covid19 pandemic the government placed teachers and learners at risk by prematurely opening schools and in light of that failed to even provide basic protection to involved parties and cases in schools started rising with alarming speed and now with the second wave of Covid19 it seems like they have learnt nothing and forgotten everything as they have sent teachers and students back to hot spots with the very same conditions as were there in the first instance.

Teachers need to organize themselves, resist and fight such tyranny as it is against not only their interests but that of the nation, the mandate of the teacher is not that of personal interference but of socio-economic and political justice as teachers are guardians and custodians of the country through their work in molding the nation and setting the path of society. It is now high time that teachers should all openly agree that the government does not care about them at all because action indeed speaks louder than words and now especially considering the whispers coming from the ministry of finance about salary reduction and it boggles the mind what are they seeking to reduce when the current salaries are way below what the teacher should be earning

Indeed change can be slow and ponderous and in most instances very tiresome and exhausting but when things come to a head it can be sudden and cataclysmic toppling hitherto unshakeable systems, what is required is an element of radicalism, sheer individual determination, powerful drive and direct confrontation with what needs to changed, for the longer teachers suffer in silence the more the suffering escalates but the more bold the approach the more determined the will the better the results and it all begins with changing the mentality.

The ministry of Education and the government of Zimbabwe have failed the nation in regards to education and for that they need to be reminded of their mandate and be compelled to change their modus operandi.

Government is responsible for the rising numbers of COVID19 cases in schools and this is clearly evident by their command approach in forcing schools and examination centers to open when the health of teachers and learners is at risk. The Zimbabwe Schools Examination Council has basically created infection hubs in examination marking centers through calling teachers to mark exams at a time like this and this has seen teachers being exposed and infected and, in some cases, succumbing to the deadly virus. There is absolutely no need to put lives at risk in such a way and every loss will be regrettable because it was avoidable, the government has failed to provide basic protection against COVID19 to teachers and students and this has a danger of cascading down to society as the teachers will go back into society and risk infecting their families. It is now the responsibility of every teacher to return home as their lives and that of their families matter more than the allowances, they are risking themselves for.

“Govt Compensates Covid-19+ Civil Servants”: REPORT

By A Correspondent- Civil servants who have tested positive for COVID-19 are being compensated between US$600 and US$1 000 depending on the grade.

Public Service deputy minister Lovemore Matuke on Friday told the Daily News that 1 305 government workers had so far produced the requisite COVID-19 certificates and are therefore eligible for the payments. Matuke said:

All civil servants up to permanent secretaries who have tested positive since last year are being paid anything between US$600 and US$1 000 depending on their grades.

For someone to be eligible for the one-off payment, they must have proof that they were tested and found to be positive.

Those who do not want to state their Covid-19 status cannot be paid because the only way we can prove that indeed someone tested positive are the results of the test.

Matuke further revealed that the Health Ministry has so far recorded 1 000 cases, the Ministry of Agriculture, 90, Home Affairs, 53 cases, and the Finance Ministry, 40.

The Office of the President and Cabinet had so far recorded 33 cases, while Local Government, National Housing, Transport, Information Communication Technology, Foreign Affairs and Public Service ministries had 11, 10, 10, 10, nine and nine cases respectively.

Meanwhile, the secretary-general of the Apex Council, David Dzatsunga, accused the government of falsifying the number of civil servants who have contracted the coronavirus. He said: The first thing is that the government is not being truthful to say only about 1 000 civil servants tested positive for Covid-19.

While we have not yet compiled the total number of our infected members, it is not true to say, for example, that only one official was infected in the ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, when we know colleagues who are either ill right now or have since died of Covid-19.

We are wondering what the government’s motive is in falsifying the numbers.

Justice too far for army shootings victims

By A Correspondent| Misfortune seems to have followed the late Eunice Mungadze to the grave for standing up for the truth.

The late Mungadze is a victim of the 9th January, 2021 Zimbabwe National Army orchestrated civilian killings.

Things continue to fall apart in the once vibrant family which she left behind after her sudden killing by the state.

She left five children and grandchildren , an enterprising indigenous impresario as well as a fiery human rights and justice advocate.

Eunice Mungadze is one of the 8 people who lost their lives when an elite force deployed by Vice President Retired General Constantine Chiwenga under the command of then Presidential Guard Commander Retired Lieutenant General Anslem Sanyatwe to terrorize human rights activists.

Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa, then instituted a commission of inquiry led by former South African President Kgalema Mothlante to investigate and recommend circumstances surrounding the 9th January 2021 shootings by the

Zimbabwean forces who were armed to teeth.

Among the recommendations made by the Mothlante Commission was the compensation of the victims who lost their lives as well as the assumption by the state of several duties and responsibilities such as educational and general welfare on the victims’ families.

However, nothing has been done as yet by the Zimbabwean government led by President Mnangagwa, some months before another election looms in 2023.

Several families who lost their breadwinners in the senseless killings continue to

count their losses.

And the Mungadze family seems to be the victims of this careless attitude adopted by the state.

One misfortune after the other is now the order of the day in the late Mungadze family

Now the Mungadze homestead resembles a haunted house with no one seen in the areas surrounding the homestead.

No one knows where everyone went after the death of Gogo Mungadze. Some believe the children skipped the country to neighbouring countries.

This signals the demise of a once vibrant family. According to the deceased’s neighbour who preferred anonymity for fear of reprisals from what she termed “a ruthless military junta cum political party” ZANU PF apparatchiks.

“The late mother of five perhaps was the glue which kept together family cohesion as soon after her demise, things started to disintegrate in the late Mungadze family,” said the neighbour.

The neighbour said, “Despite her well documented involvement in human rights and justice issues, I think Gogo Mungadze was targeted but was not directly involved in the demonstrations happening in town which triggered the heavy response from the state”

“She was rather a laid back and deeply religious person whom we are all now convinced is a victim of the junta’s heavy handedness”.

“And now, her family has been teared apart, destroyed by one stupid call by a blood thirsty regime,” added the distraught neighbour.

Several human rights groups have been calling on the ZANU PF government to address state sponsored human rights violations such as the January 9th 2021 killings as well as the Matebeland and midlands 1980s disturbances known as the Gukurahundi atrocities where more than 20 000 people lost their lives.

Security Guard In Soup For Shooting Two Women

By A Correspondent- A Beitbridge security guard is in trouble after shooting two women at a shop at Makado business centre.

Ganeth Moyo (52) pleaded not guilty to two counts of attempted murder and one of assault when he appeared before Beitbridge regional magistrate stanley Mambanje on Wednesday.

He was remanded out of custody to February 9 for continuation of trial.

Prosecutor Munyonga Kuvarega told the court that on January 1, the complainant, Obester Mhlanga (22), was at Makado business centre and he bought beer with R200 leaving behind R150 change.

After some minutes, he returned to the shop asking for his change. there was a harsh exchange of words between the cashier and Mhlanga.

It is the state case that Moyo intervened, ordering Mhlanga out of the shop. Moyo allegedly produced his service pistol and struck Mhlanga with it on the head.

The court heard that the brawl attracted crowds of people who thronged the shop and Moyo fired shots to disperse the crowd. In the process, Moyo allegedly shot Gladys Sibanda (22), who works at Makado business centre.

Sibanda sustained a gunshot wound on her right thigh. the bullet is said to have further hit Phathitshedzo Muleya (18).

Health Experts Warn Of Surge In Covid-19 Cases

By A Correspondent- Health experts have warned of a continued surge in Covid-19 cases in the country during the coming weeks and called on government to introduce and equip new decentralised treatment centres around the country.

Zimbabwe currently has a few Covid 19 dedicated treatment centres located in big cities and towns and also at big provincial and district hospitals only. This has left a huge number of people requiring hospital attention unable to access the facilities.

The country is experiencing a steep rise in daily new infections as well as deaths, with reports that major health institutions are no longer taking new Covid-19 patients due to shortage of bedding facilities. Several patients have reportedly died at hospitals before being attended.

As of yesterday, the country had 18 765 cases and 446 deaths, with most of the infections and deaths recorded last week. Most of those who died had initially tested negative to the virus, adding to the mystery surrounding the virus.

Cletos Masiya, spokesperson of the Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association (MDPPZA), said home-based care management was commonly becoming the desperate measure being taken by relatives who could just not let their beloved ones die while they watched.

He said patients were dying before being admitted and some were opting to call their doctors for management at their homes.

“Government is urged to decentralise Covid-19 management from designated centres and set up facilities across the entire county,” he said.

“Government should consider opening up idle medical facilities in other peripheral areas which have not been overwhelmed by coronavirus patients to decongest the full urban facilities.”

Masiya urged government to consider opening up stadia and setting up facilities for possible admission of new patients so that those who are positive of the virus are isolated at government-controlled health institutions, not at home.

Zimbabwe Association of Doctors for Human Rights secretary Norman Matara said there were isolation beds available across the country in some less populated areas, but intensive care unit (ICU) beds were limited and most patients were failing to access them.

“ICU facilities are mainly in health institutions in major cities such as Harare, Bulawayo, Mutare and Gweru, but hospitals in provincial towns have not been equipped with the same equipment,” he said.

“At private health institutions where ICU beds are available, fees are beyond the reach of majority affordability. People have resorted to calling doctors for attention at their homes. We call for government to urgently avail more ICU facilities,” said Matara.

The doctors also say because the PCR tests that were being done had clinical sensitivity ranging between 70-80% which gave false negative results, people who exhibited symptoms should be immediately treated as Covid-19 positive .

“There is not much difference between the new variant and the old one in terms of disease progression,” Matara said.

“Treatment for the new variant is not different from the old one; neither are there any differences in the symptoms. What is different is the volume of people who are being affected. This new strain is more infective than the old one, hence government should scale up its preventive and precautionary measures.”

He said more nurses were testing positive and succumbing to the new Covid-19 variant because they don’t have adequate personal protective equipment (PPE) although they were frontline workers.

Nurses at some of Zimbabwe’s public hospitals went on strike on Thursday demanding PPE to enable them to do their job safely.-standard

Mwonzora Explodes, says: Girlfriend WhatsApp Chats Are Fake, I’m Not Recalling Khupe At All, Although Own LIVE V11 Interview Says The Opposite

By A Correspondent | Senator Douglas Mwonzora’s information mouthpiece has contradicted his own interview in which he said that he is going to recall Thokozani Khupe from her parliament post. Announcing on Saturday morning, his spokesperson Witness Dube described a viral WhatsApp chat record of Mwonzora with his girlfriend of many years, Lwazi Sibanda, as fake news.

Thank you

Man Hangs Self In Own Bedroom

By A Correspondent- Villagers of  Jeki 1, Centenary were left shell-shocked after a 39-Year-Old man hung himself with a cloth on  Thursday morning after his wife went to fetch water.

Mashonaland Central spokesperson Inspector Milton Mundembe confirmed the death of Paul Mapondera.

It is alleged that Mapondera retired to bed with his wife Rice Renika (33) at around 8 pm. The following day at around 5.45 am, the wife woke up and went to fetch water from a borehole leaving her husband asleep.

She returned at around 7 am and discovered her husband’s body  hanging from a roof beam in their bedroom hut.

Renika then informed her mother in-law Ririma Mapondera (79) who then cut off the cloth which was used by the deceased in the suicide.

She then informed her neighbour Mermoth Ben (50) who filed a police report at Centenary police.

The police attended the scene and conveyed the corpse to St Albert’s Hospital mortuary for postmortem.
The police are appealing to the public to seek third part if they are  facing challenges.

“It is worrisome that at the time the nation is fighting COVID-19, someone chooses to take away his life,” Inspector Mundembe said.

VP Chiwenga’s Son Speaks: My Dad Is A Thief And We’re Going Nowhere, “Hatina Kwatiri Kuenda.”

By Farai D Hove | All is not well in Emmerson Mnangagwa’s deputy, Constantino Chiwenga’s family as serious allegations around child molestation grow. This complaint first published on ZimEye in October last year is released pursuant to Child Protection laws and guidelines.

Kuda Blessing Chiwenga

During an emotional family squabble, Vice President Constantino Chiwenga’s “son,” Kuda Blessing, has exploded to suggest that the man he calls his father, is a thief who survives on stealing. Writing publicly in October, he said his dad is a monkey- anasoko “ nekuti munopona nezvekuba.” Chiwenga’s totem (African surname) is a monkey. [This translates to mean a monkey that survives on stealing].

He also offloaded a series of old pictures while penning out his thread. In the piece he also made several allegations against the father concerning his love life.

He alleged that he has been molested, without however elaborating what he means by that type of abuse whether metaphoric or literal. He said, “I may have no memory of this, but I do believe I was loved then. After that, it was just molestation, abuse, and a whole bunch of horrors. 2020 has seemed to exceed them all. There truly is a devil out there. God help us all.

Chiwenga in the early 1980s with wife

He alleged that a woman named “Getty” is destroying the whole Chiwenga clan. He then penned out several staggering allegations against the said, Getty.

He said, “Nhai Getty, woparadza dzinza rese here, wodya murume, kushandisa Charles kuba maunderwear evanhu, zvino shop yako naMwamuka yakasvikepi.

VP Constantino Chiwenga with wife in the 80s

“ Zvino vana vawakabheja kuti tichafa tingoripo.

“Nhai ngatigarei dare, musungise vakandibata chibharo. Ndosaka wakavengwa nedzinza rekumurume wako. Kubatirira pahanzvadzi kutya mhosva. Repent. All of this is your fault. Ndini ndazvitaura.”

After this he went on to point the accusing finger against his father saying that he is conspiring with stepmothers to ruin children’s lives. He said: “You see a whole grown man conspire to help some stepmothers ruin lives. Kubva kuna Jocy, toti Maria. Asi nhai Muradzi wakakwana here nemumwe wako Chaminuka. Zvamave retired muchiri double agent here Mr Chams.

“Ndimi vatingati anasoko nekuti munopona nezvekuba, ko mumwe Njenje akatizira kupi? Ko tsaga vamakatuma paye ndiri pasports diner. Did you think you could destroy me you imbeciles?”

The last block of allegations he offloaded is about the father. He said in full:

If I can calculate the amount of rituals some ladies from our family do. You may discover that the blue uniform they wear is where they truly belong. Imagine someone is sick for four months, he comes back and his sisters and aides conspire to release false articles to confuse the family. We know you were part of the crew that tried to kill him in the first place. Lawyers changing names and stuff. People, there’s a whole to this than people understand. Hatina kwatiri kuenda. Yet they same people are still masquerading as allies. Does your boss know of your other activities? Ana Muringi, idzungu rekunzi munogona kudhedha vanhu here? Takakunzwai nembiri yesabotage. Watooneka nekachiremerera kufamba nashefu asi brain ndopasina.

While attempts to get a comment from VP Chiwenga and his three former lovers were fruitless at the time of writing, several family members had joined in to somewhat commiserate with Kuda, with some saying the running complaints need to be attended to by family as a matter of urgency- this is a developing story.

Police Officers Brutally Kill Suspect

Ramaphosa Dismisses Tafadzwa Mugwadi’s Baseless Allegation On ANC’s Zimbabwean Trip

“Release Mafume”: Southern Africa Human Rights Defenders Network

Time To Confront Zanu PF Regime Over Abuse Of Human Rights

10 JANUARY 2021

“IT IS THE TIME TO CONFRONT ZANUPF FOR GENUINE DEMOCRATIC CHANGE IN ZIMBABWE, THE RULE OF LAW, EQUAL RIGHTS AND JUSTICE” , MDC ALLIANCE NAMIBIA ABSOLUTELY CONDEMNS THE INCESSANT INCARCERATION OF SOCIAL DEMOCRATS AND JOURNALISTS.

Mdc Alliance Namibia absolutely condemns the attempt by autocratic Zanupf to put social democrats and journalists on mute through incessant incarceration as a sure way of breaking their resolve to emancipate Zimbabweans from Bornapartism. We demand justice to our political dynamo, Job SaroWiwa Sikhala, Jacob Mafume (Our Mayor), Allan Moyo, investigative journalist Hopewell Chin’ono, Tungamirai Madzokere, Last Maengahama and all political prisoners who are languishing in hell-hole prisons for speaking against arbitrary arrests, torture, senseless corruption and daylight looting as well as police brutality.

It is now imperative for all social democrats around the globe to pent up their outrage demanding the immediate release of our footsoldiers who are tortured and jailed on trumped up charges. The arbitrary arrests and detention of Jacob, Allan, Job SaroWiwa Sikhala, Hopewell, Tungamirai Madzokere and Last Maengahama is a testimony to absolute power that is concentrated in the hands of a sadist leader commonly identified as a dictator who aims to abolish political pluralism and civilian activism. Where is our solidarity? When shall we avail ourselves to confront these inequalities and injustices that are being perpetrated at our innocent revolutionaries? When shall we stand on our feet to fight for our political liberty to express our political opinions? It’s high time that social democrats pursue social liberation policies aimed at completing the unfinished business of the national liberation movement.

Moreover, it our moral obligation to defend the Constitution and Constitutionalism through participatory democracy. We need to dedicate and commit ourselves to the national democratic revolution by facing the beast in the eye demanding the immediate release of our radical comrades who are showing the courage and nerve to expose police brutality and gross misgovernance in Zanupf government. Arresting Chin’ono and Sikhala thereafter, is a detrimental miscarriage of justice since a mere tweet that a child has been killed by the police does not warrant imprisonment. Journalism is not a crime and fighting for justice is a Constitutional mandate in constitutional democracy.

Mdc Alliance Namibia is ever ready to fight for governance where the supremacy belongs to the population not vice-versa. We are completely against the satanic attempt by clueless Zanupf regime to impose a total control of mass communications (through censorship of the press and arbitrary arrests , political and social organisations not forgetting the capture of all securocrats. Mdc Alliance and the rest of Zimbabwe should rise now and resist this extreme form of dictatorship dominated by greedy Zanupf stomach politicians of plunder and self-enrichment).

Our mandate as genuine revolutionaries is to pledge our solidarity to the incarcerated so that they are energised to soldier on with the struggle. Lets flood the captured Courts demanding justice before we are eliminated one by one. Why do we feel comfortable when our own comrades are gnashing their teeth in agony at the hands of these dictators? This is no longer the social liberation policy of “injure one injure all! Mdc Alliance Namibia urges all Zimbabweans to come together and clamour for justice and equality before the law. The police that allegedly killed a nine months old kid are walking free, Obadiah Moyo who pocketed 60 million US$ Covid-19 funds was never detained, Prisca Mupfumira who looted Nssa funds is out on bail. It needs all of us to rise to the accasion advocating for the freedom of expression and equality before the law.

Furthermore, the issue of delegitimising the courts is a catastrophic game that cannot be tolerated by real social democrats. Zanupf must know that a court is not a political institution. The police and the judges in courts must speak for the constitution of Zimbabwe not for desperate political outfits which are led by arrogant and cunning Zanupf goons. We need to fight seriously against the futile attempt by the courts and police to protect Zanupf political power by upholding arbitrary arrests, torture and a wholesome closure of the much needed democratic space in the motherland. Lets rebrand our revolutionary trajectory and principles if we desire to win against Zanupf thugocracy. Solidarity is a core value in Social Democracy! We must embrace dangerous freedom against peaceful slavery. It is now time for organic and pragmatic approach to the national discourse.

To top it off, Mdc Alliance Namibia is cognisant of the fact that the recent cases of the continued incarceration and imprisonment without trial of Allan Moyo, Tungamirai Madzokere, Job SaroWiwa Sikhala, Jacob Mafume, Last Maengahama, Hopewell Chin’ono and all prisoners of conscience is a clear politicisation of the police and courts by Zanupf morons in a bid to stifle the voices of dissent in Zimbabwe. We need to prove that we are genuine revolutionaries who really feel for our jailed innocent social democrats.

Arrest Covid-19 And Poverty, Not Our Rights!

10-01-2021

The panic stricken Emmerson Mnangagwa’s fascist regime must be warned that the continued muzzling of citizens’ basic freedoms and rights breeds trouble.

Revealed: Mnangagwa To Use Coronavirus To Kill Political Rivals

Then later this was - 1987 at the end of the Gukurahundi massacres. Mnangagwa doesn't look happy that the killing is over, as it were.

Then later this was - 1987 at the end of the Gukurahundi massacres. Mnangagwa doesn't look happy that the killing is over, as it were.

Ramaphosa Incensed By Tafadzwa Mugwadi’s Threats, Calls Them Baseless

By A Correspondent| South Africa and ANC President, Cyril Ramaphosa, has dismissed as baseless an allegation by ZANU-PF director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi about the controversial trip to Harare during the national lockdown last year.

Mugwadi threatened to leak a bomb-shell about the motivation behind that meeting unless the ANC reigns in State-owned broadcaster SABC from negative reportage on Zimbabwe and Zanu-PF.

Mugwadi threatened to expose the ANC’s alleged sinister agenda behind their trip to Zimbabwe last year. The threat was an angry reaction to what Mugwadi views as hostile reportage against Zanu-PF by the South African Broadcasting Corporation. He demanded that the ANC intervenes to stop SABC news reporter Sophie Mokoena from reporting what Zanu-PF deems is fake news about the goings-on in Zimbabwe.

The ANC president says as far he was concerned – the ANC delegation went there for a meeting with the organisation’s ally.

However, he says, he hopes Mugwadi would be willing to expand on his assertions.

“I am sure that he (Mugwadi) will be willing to share that with the ANC and with all of us. We sent a delegation as the African National Congress, to Zimbabwe because Zanu-PF is a sister party to us; we have deep and strong links with Zanu-PF.

“It was one to express concern and find out what’s happening, to see the extent to which we can be supportive and also fully understand precisely what is happening. As far as we concerned, there is nothing amidst there is noting that we could say we to hide in as far as sending that delegation.”

Pointing At Himself Against Himself, Madhuku Vows To Fight Mnangagwa Over Reforms

Lovemore Madhuku

By A Correspondent| The Professor Lovemore Madhuku led National Constitutional Assembly has vowed to fight for electoral reforms especially the provision that gives a sitting President power to appoint ZEC Chairperson and all commissioners, Madhuku’s personal spokesperson, Maddock Chivasa has said.

Posting on Facebook, Chivasa said the issue of how ZEC is constituted was now a matter of urgency.

Chivasa said the provision on how ZEC is constituted is undemocratic as it gives a sitting President decides the referee in a game he/she is part of.

“The issue of how ZEC should be constituted in preparation for the next general elections, legally due in 2023,is now a matter of both urgency and ermergency.

“As NCA Party we are strongly against the provision in the Constitution that gives power to a sitting President to appoint ZEC Chairperson and all ZEC Commissioners,” said Chivasa.

He added that as NCA, they were opposed to rituals disguised as elections.

“This provision in the Constitution is undemocratic in that in the current circumstances it gives powers to President Mnangagwa to appoint a ZEC that will oversee an election which he is most likely to contest as a Presidential candidate together with other candidates contesting as Mps and Councillors from his party Zanu PF,” added Chivasa.

He urged Zimbabweans to come together and demand electoral reforms which he said is the only way to guarantee undisputed elections.

“Let us all put our heads together and reject a state of affairs where Zanu pf determines a referee in the same game it is also playing. Elections are not rituals we demand a fair electoral field that is not tilted in favor of the incumbents. A free and fair election is an election where all contestants have equal chances to win those elections,” said Chivasa.

Warriors Training In Full Swing, CHAN Tournament Kicks Off On Saturday

THE Zimbabwe senior men’s team resumed training as they intensified preparations for the African Nations Championship, a tournament which starts in Cameroon on Saturday.

A dark cloud was looming over the Warriors after 15 members of those in camp, that is players and the technical team tested positive for the coronavirus. There was however good news when the Zimbabwe Football Association announced that only one out of those 15 individuals returned a positive test, which paved way for the team to resume training at the National Sports Stadium yesterday afternoon. It has been ascertained that the one person who is still to recover from Covid-19 is a player.

Zifa said the whole squad will undergo another test on Tuesday ahead of departure for Cameroon on Wednesday.

“All but one of the 15 members of our Chan team who previously tested positive for Covid-19 have recovered, group training resumes this afternoon (yesterday). Another test will be done on 12 January ahead of departure for Cameroon on 13 January,’’ said Zifa.

Wellington Mpandare, the Warriors team manager said they recently submitted a squad of 33 players to the Confederation of African Football. From that squad, Zimbabwe will choose the 23 to represent the country at the tournament.

Zimbabwe have been drawn in same group with Cameroon, Burkina Faso and Mali. The locally based Warriors square off with the Indomitable Lions in the tournament opener on Saturday.

Police Officers Arrested For Killing A Suspect

TWO Beitbridge police officers have been arrested for allegedly assaulting an unlawful entry and theft suspect to death, burnt his remains which they then stashed in a sack and hid them in a drainage system to conceal the crime.

The two police officers – Constables Xander Siasayi (33) and Daniel Peyani (32) of Tuli and Zezani police camps were arrested on Friday for the offence they allegedly committed while investigating an unlawful entry and theft case which had occured at Toporo Special Bottle Store in Zezani.

Police spokesperson for Matabeleland South Province Inspector Loveness Mangena confirmed the incident and said investigations were underway.

Insp Mangena further said they were still searching for the missing parts of the victim and trying to find out how and why the body was burnt.

Circumstances according to the police statement are that on 27 December, 2020, at about 8am, the now deceased’s girlfriend, Beatrice Ndou (24), who is employed at Toporo Special Bottle Store, made a report at Swereki Police Base alleging that her boyfriend broke into her workplace and stole cash amounting to 10 140 rand and $200.

Upon receiving the report, Constables Siasayi and Peyani, who were manning the police base, did not record it in the report book.

On the same day at about 7pm, the now deceased was picked up from Toporo Special Bottle Store where he was residing with his girlfriend, Beatrice.

Siasayi and Peyani then escorted him and a co-accused, Godknows Mbedzi, back to Swereki Police Base where they spent the night under police custody. “On the 28th of December 2020 at around 6am while at the police base, the accused persons assaulted the now deceased with a stick on the thighs and buttocks several times interrogating him about the alleged stolen money,” police sources said.

RBZ to Introduce ZWL$50, ZWL$100 And ZWL$200 Notes

THE Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) will soon introduce a new set of higher denomination banknotes to increase physical money supply, curb cash shortages and improve transacting convenience.

Authorities have approved the introduction, into circulation, of new $50, $100 and $200 banknotes this year.

Our Harare Bureau has gathered that the $50 note will be introduced first, while plans to introduce the other notes are still in the works.

Designs of the new $50 dollar note are awaiting the President’s approval before printing can commence.
Zimbabwe has $2, $5, $10 and $20 notes in circulation.

Transacting using these notes has become cumbersome, with huge wads of cash now required to complete small transactions due to inflation.

Cash shortages have triggered queues at banks and an illegal market where premiums are charged to convert electronic money into cash.

The shortages have also created a multi-tier pricing system where prices of a single product differ depending on the customer’s mode of payment.

Introduction of the new notes is expected to enhance convenience to the transacting public and eliminate the illegal cash market.

Teachers Conducting Physical Extra Lessons to Be Prosecuted

THE Government has warned teachers against conducting physical extra lessons as they risk being prosecuted for violating Covid-19 containment regulations, it has been learnt.

The move comes amid uncertainty over the new opening dates, as figures of Covid-19 cases continue to rise in the country with some teachers having resorted to offering extra lesson services to pupils for an extra penny.

In an interview, director of communications in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Taungana Ndoro said teachers were fully aware that the only lessons that had been permitted to date were the ones conducted online.

He said it was therefore mischievous and criminal for anyone to conduct physical classes as this would derail the Government efforts to contain the Covid-19 pandemic.

“We are clear when it comes to the issue of extra lessons. We have made it clear that only online lessons have been permitted. Physical lessons, where teachers gather pupils at some location are illegal as there will be no mechanism to monitor adherence to guidelines so that they do not become spreaders of this pandemic.

“Therefore, teachers who are conducting these lessons are liable for prosecution for defying Covid-19 lockdown regulations,” said Mr Ndoro.

Mr Ndoro said measures put forward by the Government were not meant to disadvantage pupils but were to protect them against contracting the Covid-19 virus.

“The reason we are emphasizing on online classes for now is that for physical classes to take place there is a need for the setting up and adherence to set Standard Operating Procedures, which will be monitored by the responsible authorities to ensure that pupils and teachers are not unnecessarily exposed to this pandemic.

“Our call, therefore is for the teachers to be responsible and not be pushed by greed to conduct these physical lessons, while at the same time exposing themselves and their pupils to the pandemic,” said Mr Ndoro.

The Government, early this month deferred the opening of schools to a date to be announced due to the spike in Covid-19 cases. Only examination writing classes were allowed to open just to finish their final exams.

Schools were initially scheduled to reopen on Monday last week for the first term of 2021 closing on March 24.

Several schools recorded an increase in Covid-19 cases among pupils and teachers last term forcing some schools to prematurely close.

Last year, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister, Cde Monica Mutsvangwa warned teachers offering extra lessons that they were breaking the law and will face the full wrath of the law should they be caught.

“Some teachers are illegally conducting extra lessons in violation of lockdown regulations. Such practices will endanger the lives of the children in question and should be stopped forthwith,” Minister Mutsvangwa was quoted as having said.

Hwende Rules Out Dialogue With Mwonzora

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC MDC Alliance Secretary General Hon Charlton Hwende has ruled out dialogue with Douglas Mwonzora’s MDC-T.

Hon Hwende also described the withdrawal of former Zanu PF MP, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti from the MDC Alliance as a non-event.

On Thursday Bhasikiti announced his decision to pull out of the MDC Alliance.

Hon Hwende responded:

We have had many MDC’s in the past and that has never confused our people.

Since 1999 we have managed to sustain this struggle and give hope to our people because we have successfully managed to outwit the regime by always electing and following a genuine political leader who can’t be bought by the regime to sell out the struggle. We succeeded with President Morgan Tsvangirai and we will succeed with President Nelson Chamisa.

Our Number one asset is our Leader. Even all other leaders are bought and we remain with him alone and the People Tinosvika Chete. Don’t be disturbed by those who are pushing us to abandon our name MDC Alliance it’s a trap the masses know their Party and they Know that their Leader is Nelson Chamisa. Some are now day dreaming and talking about Unity.

Byo Squatters Resort to Drinking Water From Sewer Pond

By A Correspondent- Over 2 000 squatters at Bulawayo’s three slums have resorted to fetching domestic water from sewage ponds and open pits oblivious of the health implications, NewsDay Weekender has learnt.

A survey conducted by the Matabeleland Institute for Human Rights (MIHR) at the three slum settlements – Ngozi Mine, Trenance and Killarney – has exposed the ticking health time bomb.

The illegal settlements accommodate at least 2 200 people.

MIHR last year assisted the Ngozi Mine squatters to petition the Bulawayo City Council for provision of clean water and the petition was signed by over 160 residents and presented to the ward councillor.

But council said it did not recognise them and refused to address their demands.

The MIHR report released on Thursday states that globally, slum dwellers are increasing with the current global population being estimated at one billion up from 883 million in 2003.

“In Africa, south of the Sahara, there are over 72 million slum settlers. The Zimbabwean Census Statistics Office (ZimStat) does not record the slum population separately. This makes it difficult to have authoritative statistics of Zimbabwean slum residents …,” read the report.

In its findings, the organisation says the slum dwellers cannot talk of the quality of water because they do not have water to drink in the first place.

“Access to clean, safe and potable water is a major challenge in all the three settlements as BCC and Umguza RDC are not providing water services to the communities …,” the report read.

MIHR revealed that Ngozi Mine residents survive on collecting water from an pit left open by council after extracting pit sand.

“The open pit water is brown in colour and is likely to be contaminated as it is downhill and closely adjacent to the dumping site. They also go to Montgomery low-density
suburb to collect from the well.

“During the rainy season, they also attempt rainwater harvesting and drinking from the local stream contaminated due to open defecation and eroding dumpsite rubble.”

MIHR stated that in Killarney slum settlement, residents collect water from a regular water burst.

“The residents further explained that at times the water from the burst comes out greenish in colour.

“In Trenance, residents beg from nearby plot-holders with boreholes or water harvesting during the rainy season. The residents said begging for borehole water is becoming difficult during COVID-19 as plot-holders fear being infected.”

MIHR said some of the plot-holders insist that slum residents do manual labour around the home as payment for collecting water.

“Collecting water from burst pipes is not sustainable as the council repairs them. Squatters are also afraid that council rangers may implicate them for damaging the pipes. An average family of six uses 60-80 litres a day for all domestic water needs,” the MIHR report read.

MIHR urged the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency to provide specific statistics of the slum dwellers to enable mobilisation of humanitarian assistance for them.

“Parliamentarians should visit slums to hear their concerns and hold the government accountable for the fundamental rights of slum residents,” MIHR said.

“The government should enact policies that recognise the legitimate human rights and freedoms of slum residents.”

MIHR said slum residents were entitled to legitimate fundamental human rights and freedoms.

Established between the late 1970s and the early 1980s, Bulawayo slum communities have a unique historical background.

Killarney Slum settlement began as a settlement for mine migrants in the late 1970s, housing migrant mine workers from Zambia and Malawi who worked at Sweep Ticket.

Trenance camp was formed by former suburban workers who occupied the privately-owned land and made it their new home.

The settlement is believed to have begun around 1981.

Ngozi Mine settlement inhabitants are people who scrounge the dumpsite in search of dumped materials for resale.

Chamisa Assures Nation

Tinashe Sambiri|President Nelson Chamisa has assured the nation that he will not abandon the people’s struggle.

In his letter to the nation, President Chamisa points out that the people of Zimbabwe know the difference between genuine opposition and pretenders.

In the letter, President Chamisa also reveals how he was mentored by MDC founding President and former Prime Minister, Right Honourable Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

See part of President Chamisa’s letter below:

Fellow Zimbabweans,
When we began this journey 22 years ago, I was a young college student alongside my contemporaries. I was part of a generation of college students that joined veteran trade unionists, powerful women in the women’s movement, war veterans, civic and church leaders, among others, who believed that the way Zimbabwe was being governed needed serious transformation.

We believed that the system over which ZANU PF presided was only serving a minority of elites who occupied vantage positions within and around the state, while most Zimbabweans were condemned to suffering. It was plain that the future was bleak unless progressive Zimbabweans intervened to change the course. That is why we championed the message of change.

Looking back those days seem like a long time ago. A new generation has emerged since that time. Babies born in 1999 are now adults. They have lived their formative years in very difficult circumstances. Times were different back in 1999, but I remember the energy and passion of every cadre as if it were yesterday. The idea that was sown in our hearts and minds has no expiry date.

To be sure, the journey has been gruelling. But I was never under any illusion that it would be easy. We have lost thousands of cadres along the way, including our founding father, Morgan Tsvangirai who departed in February 2018. I was privileged to have a special relationship with him and from him, I learned a lot under his leadership and guidance. The most painful losses have been those suffered at the hands of the state, through violence. We cannot betray the memory of these dearly departed cadres. We must honour their dreams and aspirations for a better Zimbabwe, otherwise, they would have died in vain. This is why I have never veered from the course that was set in 1999.

I look back and realize that I have spent more than half of my life chasing the vision that was designed and shaped by those courageous men and women who gathered in 1999 to form the Movement for Democratic Change. The greatness of the idea has not diminished with time, no. It has been strengthened. Those men and women understood that the fundamental weaknesses at the heart of government needed not only new leaders but also a fresh set of ideas and ways of doing things. We remain committed to that vision.

One of the things that please me a lot is seeing a younger generation coming up and carrying the torch in politics. This is how strong institutions grow and I want to pay special tribute to the young people of Zimbabwe whose political consciousness is growing.

The journey has had seminal moments, some positive, and others negative. Both types have been important learning experiences. Some of these challenges have been read as representing existential threats to the organization, but we overcame them. We survived the loss of our founding father by going on to amass the largest electoral votes in the history of the opposition and had we not been cheated; we would have prevailed.

It is a testament to the strength of the idea, the abiding loyalty of the people to the cause, and the abundance of their political wisdom that the party has withstood severe tests. Even when we have been written off by our doubters, we have shown our mettle and surprised them, disappointing rivals along the way.

Many of you have seen what has happened in the past year. Our rivals have used multiple tricks in the dictators’ handbook, in a calculated and relentless effort to undermine our party. Using apparatuses of the state, and under the cover of what has been described as lawfare, they have robbed us of our legislators, councillors, and funds that were due to us under the law. In a direct subversion of democracy, they have even catapulted into Parliament undeserving individuals whom you as voters rejected in the last election. The assault upon democracy has been vicious, but we are undaunted.

As a party, we know that the purpose of these strategies is not just to undermine us, but it is also intended to obliterate us from the political landscape. ZANU PF has never been comfortable with strong opposition. They aim to build an opposition that they control. This is the sole purpose of the project that they have moulded with our erstwhile colleagues. These were deliberate acts of provocation, designed to lure us into conduct that would justify violent repression during the pandemic. We have remained calm and resolute, not because we are unable to respond, but because we know the game they are playing. We also remain true to our founding principle: we are committed to achieving change through peaceful and non-violent means.

We have remained composed because we are confident that progressive fellow Zimbabweans are solidly behind us. We know this because of all the love, support, and encouragement that they have shown us during these testing times. We trust the gift of discernment that is given to Zimbabweans, which enables them to distinguish between right and wrong. They can tell when a bully is abusing power and they know how to punish this abusive behaviour, which punishment will be exacted through the ballot box.

Significantly, Zimbabweans can tell the difference between genuine opposition that is challenging repression and enablers who are aiding and abetting repression. This is not the first time that the people of Zimbabwe have encountered this situation. During the last days of colonialism, the Smith regime tried to hoodwink people by promoting people like Bishop Abel Muzorewa, ahead of the true nationalists who were fighting repression.

Smith preferred the likes of Muzorewa because they were lackeys who would do his bidding while Muzorewa and others were eager to join the gravy train to serve their interests…

Dazzy Kapenya Pays Tribute To “Dabuka Express”
