With just two weeks into the tightened lockdown, locals are already showing signs of fatigue if the clash between media personality MisRed and raunchy dancer, Bev Sibanda today is anything to go by.
MisRed posted that Bev Sibanda was not the dancer’s real name, and Bev did not take this kindly.
“Ah, so Ray isn’t your actual actual n ame. It’s like the day I found out that Bev Sibanda isn’t her real name. I’m shook,” tweeted MisRed after realising that comedian, Ray Vines name is actually Melusi Chiripowako.
Bev who has been under the radar mainly due to the lockdown clearly did not like MisRed’s sentiments at all and resurfaced to defend herself. In true Bev style, she came out with all her weapons, mudslinging and body shaming MisRed in the process.
“MisRed, zvikumbo zvinenge chimwana chenzou,” responded Bev with an image of her ID which proved that her birth name is indeed Beverly Sibanda.
Due to a lack of entertainment, people were excited by this clash with some like former minister, Fortune Chasi watering the clash by making it comical.
“MisRed, you were not in my corner during that match. Now look I won,” tweeted Chasi.
MisRed apologised to Bev timely for offending her. Thereafter, she proudly posted an image of her thighs and tweeted: “shout out to all the girls with baby elephant sized thighs”.
Following this clash, it has become apparent that locals are hungry for entertainment and personalities may want to start giving them the desired content because after all, that, according to last year’s happenings, is the only way that one can remain relevant during the lockdown. With little or no controversy, one can easily be forgotten.
By Rugare Gumbo| We have learned with sorrow and sadness of the death of Cde Mukudzei Mudzi (94) the former Executive Secretary (General Secretary) of Dare reChimurenga of ZANU.
Cde Mudzi’s death followed that of Cde Moton Malianga (91). The two were genuine war veterans. Our prayers and thoughts are with them. May their souls rest in eternal peace.
Cde Mudzi and Cde Malianga were pioneers of the national liberation struggle, first as nationalists in Zimbabwe and later as guerrilla leaders outside the country. Malianga played a pivotal role in the formation of all the major political parties from National Democratic Party (NDP) in 1960, the Zimbabwe African Peoples Union (ZAPU) in 1962 and later the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) in 1963.
I first met Malianga in 1962 in Salisbury Prison where we were jailed under the Law and Order Maintenance Act with Simon Muzenda, E. Dembedza, Goodson Sithole and others.
When ZANU and PCC were banned in August 1964, Malianga was detained in Salisbury, Gweru and Connemara detention centres. In 1974 he was one of the seven coup plotters against Rev. Ndabaningi Sithole in favour of Robert Mugabe at Connemara Prison.
In November that year, he accompanied Mugabe for the abortive talks with frontline state leaders in Lusaka, Zambia. Mugabe and Malianga were dismissed and sent back to Zimbabwe when frontline leaders decided that Sithole was the legitimate leader of ZANU. He was released from prison in December 1974 when all Zimbabwean nationalists were released by the Ian Smith regime under the Zimbabwe Unity Accord.
Malianga remained in the country until independence in 1980 and held several ministerial posts in the new government. When he retired, he lived in abject poverty with little support from the party or the government.
Mukudzei Mudzi was an instrumental member of the Herbert Chitepo Architect Team that laid the foundation of ZANLA and was also a leader of ZANU’s external wing as Executive Secretary from 1971-1976 in Lusaka, Zambia.
Unrecognised: struggle stalwart Mukudzei Mudzi Mudzi represented a rare breed of young students who sacrificed the comfort and benefits of student life that accrued to Africans who had achieved high academic and professional qualifications to join Herbert Chitepo, Henry Hamadziripi, Noel Mukono and others to wage war against the colonial settlers from 1964-1966.
From there, he rose through the ranks of the party to become a member of the revolutionary council and then a member of Dare reChimurenga in 1971 and 1973.
Mudzi will always be remembered for his honesty, humility, selflessness and strict adherence to the party line and discipline. His faithfulness and sincerity were recognised by the leadership and the entire party, and they entrusted him with the resources of the movement and handling the party’s funds. He never took anything for himself and if anything was needed he would even dig into his personal pockets to support the movement.
Chitepo, Hamadziripi, Mukono and even Josiah Tongogara relied entirely on Mudzi’s stewardship and integrity.
“MUDZI IS ANOTHER ONE ON THE LONG LIST OF OUR TRUE NATIONAL HEROES WHO HAVE NOT BEEN RECOGNISED…”
In retrospect, we now recognise that the British imperial power was always unforgiving of all true stalwarts of the revolution and we believe that the imperial power set in motion forces that would eliminate the true leadership of the struggle and replace them with acceptable personalities.
We honestly do not know whether the frictions that we experienced in Zambia and Mozambique were wittingly or unwittingly effected against Chitepo and the remnants of his leadership by Mugabe. But they resulted in the brief detentions of the whole Dare in Zambia, the incarceration of ZIPA commanders in Mozambique and, later on, the incarceration of the whole of Chitepo’s Dare and its senior commanders by Mugabe after a kangaroo court in Chimoio that saw Mudzi and others sentenced to death by Mugabe.
That sentence was never carried out, because the frontline states led by Julius Nyerere demanded the immediate release of the Chitepo leadership remnant.
Gumbo: ‘Robert Mugabe built a foundation of greed and self-centeredness’ Today, Mudzi becomes another one on the long list of our true National Heroes who have not been recognised as such by the ruling regime.
These include:
• Henry Hamadziripi (Member of Dare reChimurenga) • Noel Mukono (Member of Dare reChimurenga) • Mathias Gurira (Chief Protocol Officer and Member of Dare reChimurenga) • Cletus Chigohwe (National Security and Intelligence) • Joseph Chimurenga (Member of High Command, Field Commander Mozambique Front) • Wilfred ‘Dzino’ Mhanda (High Command ZANLA Commissar) • Saul Sadza-Magaya (High Command and Administration) • James Nyikadzinashe (High Command, Security and Intelligence) • Baya-Chihota (Commander Military Headquarters Mozambique) • Chimedza (High Command)
This is by no means an exhaustive list of the leadership and rank-and-file comrades who gave their all for the liberation of Zimbabwe, but have been denied recognition and support from the party and the regime.
All these comrades survived into independent Zimbabwe with the exception of Sadza, Baya and Chimedza who died just before independence. But the common thread linking all of them is that they were neither recognised nor supported by the Mugabe regime.
The families of those that died just before independence never received any support at all and were refused livelihood up until they died.
Mudzi and a ‘distorted history’
I also take this opportunity, while mourning Cde Mukudzei Mudzi, to draw attention to the distorted history of the liberation of Zimbabwe that presents the masses who sacrificed and their fighters as benefiting from independence.
The Mugabe regime conflated the party and the state to serve the individual interests of an elite group driven by personal greed and political careerism. The character of today’s ZANU PF is a far cry from the ideals and true leadership of the Chitepo Dare, High Command, General Staff, and rank-and-file that are Chitepo’s legacy.
It reflects only Robert Mugabe and what he built on a foundation of greed and self-centeredness.
Many of us who remain are deeply disturbed by the shabby, hypocritical, and discriminatory treatment of genuine war veterans, in particular members of the Chitepo leadership, and how they are never awarded National Hero status.
They say that history is written by the victors, but we know who our true heroes are.
Rugare Gumbo was Secretary of Information in the Dare ReChimurenga, and is its last surviving member. He served in various capacities in the Zimbabwe government and in ZANU PF.
By A Correspondent| Former ZANU PF party youth leader Jim Kunaka, who has been in remand prison since last year when he was arrested, charged and detained for allegedly inciting people to participate in an anti-government protest will appear at Harare High Court on Tuesday 26 January 2021 for the determination of his bail appeal.
The 42 year-old Kunaka was arrested by Zimbabwe Republic Police members on 24 December 2020 who charged him with incitement to participate in a gathering with intent to promote public violence, breach of peace or bigotry as defined in section 187(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act) as read with section 37(1)(a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform Act).
Kunaka, who is represented by Munyaradzai Bwanya of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR), was also charged with contravening section 4 of Statutory Instrument 110 of 2020 Public Health (COVID-19) Prevention, Containment and Treatment (National Lockdown) Order, 2020 after he allegedly incited more than 50 people to gather without permission during the national lockdown period declared by government in a bid stop people from gathering in large numbers in a bid to curb the spread of coronavirus.
In court, prosecutors alleged that Kunaka posted some video messages on social media platforms between 1 March 2020 and 30 July 2020 inciting people across the country to participate in illegal demonstrations which were held on 31 July 2020.
Kunaka, prosecutors charged, incited people to gather at Africa Unity Square during the time which government had declared a national lockdown period prohibiting people from gathering.
Hearing of Kunaka’s bail appeal at Harare High Court was delayed as his lawyer faced challenges in securing the record of proceedings from Harare Magistrates Court, where he was denied bail in December 2020 by Magistrate Judith Taruvinga.
Meanwhile, Zengeza West constituency legislator Job Sikhala will return to Harare High Court on Tuesday 26 January 2021, for continuation of the hearing of his bail appeal after it was postponed on Friday 22 January 2021 by Justice Davison Foroma, when law officers from National Prosecuting Authority requested for more time to go through the opposition party legislator’s bail appeal.
Sikhala, who is represented by Jeremiah Bamu, Harrison Nkomo and Paidamoyo Saurombe of ZLHR, was denied bail by Harare Magistrate Ngoni Nduna on 15 January 2021 after he was arrested on 9 January 2021 and charged with publishing or communicating false statements prejudicial to the State.

The diabolic plan by the regime to prioritize themselves, the elite for the corona virus vaccine is regrettable and unacceptable.
The vaccine must target the medical practitioners, our soldiers in this fight against the spread of this deadly virus, the elderly, and the vulnerable. Not to prioritize Ministers and MPs, knowing very well that they are the ones in those positions. So it means vaccine is for Zanu pf members. That selfish tendencies must not be tolerated. Every lockdown they target the poor, majority of whom are in the informal sector.
They are not allowed to move or transact their businesses. They want to fend for their families but because the regime does not consider them as important citizens, they are always considered as enemies and second class citizens. Government workers including teachers and other critical sectors who play a very crucial role in society are neglected and also considered as second class.
The first priority of the vaccine should be the frontline staff, elderly and those with co-morbidities.
ZIFA has released the following statement explaining the infamous substitution of Qadr Amini 149 seconds after kick-off in Cameroon yesterday. The Warriors were playing Mali last night when the historic substitution happened.
According to ZIFA Amini was substituted on medical grounds as the board noticed that he was playing despite his medical condition that had been picked during an MRI test:
ZIFA EXPLANATION REGARDING THE PARTICIPATION OF PLAYER QADR AMINI IN THE AFRICAN NATIONS CHAMPIONSHIP (CHAN) TOURNAMENT, CAMEROON 2021
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has noted media inquiries regarding the substitution of Qadr Amini in the third minute of Zimbabwe’s match against Mali at the African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals in Doula, Cameroon yesterday (Sunday 24 January 2021).
ZIFA would like to categorically state that in line with CAF’s medical guidelines, there was a test that we were supposed to conduct on all players who had recently recovered from COVID- 19 called Cardiac MRI test.
Our medical team checked among radiology centres in the country and there was none in Zimbabwe conducting such a test.
ZIFA wrote to CAF to arrange and facilitate that the affected CHAN players be tested in Cameroon. All the affected players were tested upon arrival in Yaounde and the Board was notified prior to the commencement of the tournament that the player was not fit to play due to heart complications. A decision was made not to field the player until the recovery of the player and subsequent retests. The Board was shocked to see the player in the starting line-up without the player having undergone another test.
The technical and medical teams were engaged and could not give a convincing explanation on why the player was included. The Board then made a decision to order the technical team not to use the player until a retest had been conducted. The decision was made in the interest of the player’s health. The Board played its oversight role to protect the player from potential permanent harm that may have included death as well as to safeguard the reputation of the game of football.
The insinuations in some media platforms that such was interference with team selection therefore has no basis.
The ZIFA Board has set a commission of inquiry made up of experts to understand what exactly took place and whether it was proper to field the player.
ZIFA urges the public and media to respect the privacy of the health status of the player and we wish the player a quick recovery.
Covid-19 has claimed the life of former Transvaal junior welterweight boxing champion, Ernest “The Duke” Moledi, who died on Wednesday.
Moledi, who was born 62 years ago in Meadowlands, Soweto, struggled to breathe before he was rushed to a local hospital, according to the family.
“He struggled to breathe on Monday and was rushed to Tshepo Themba Hospital (in Dobsonville) and unfortunately he passed away today,” Moledi’s sister Pauline said.
“My brother had a good heart and he did a lot of good things to people and for people. You can write a book about him; we are mourning.”
Moledi feared no one in his heyday. His straight-forwardness on matters affecting boxing earned him enemies but this failed to worry him as he believed he was fighting a good fight.
Veteran boxing promoter Obed Molekwa — the deputy chairman of the Gauteng Boxing Promoters Association — said the death of Moledi will affect not only his family but also both the people of Meadowlands and the boxing fraternity at large.
“He was always helpful and he buried people who struggled financially,” said Molekwa of Soweto Boxing Promotions. Just two weeks ago Moledi buried former pro boxer Jacob Mazibuko, and it was Moledi who helped bury former SA non-white lightweight champion Evans Gwiji in 2016. – Sowetan
FIFTEEN people who were part of more than 100 people who attended a suspected gold dealer’s birthday party on Sunday in violation of lockdown rules at a house in Nkulumane suburb where police officers were attacked, have been arrested.
The suspected gold dealer, Ntombizodwa Ndlovu who was celebrating her 36th birthday, is among those who were arrested.
Police have identified 15 others who are on the run.
Police swooped on party goers at around 5.30PM and the merry-makers attacked them forcing them to retreat.
The police later called for reinforcement leading to the arrest of the 15 who include Ndlovu and her husband.
Confirming the incident, Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson inspector Abednico Ncube said more than 100 people attended the party in violation of the strict Covid-19 regulations announced by Government early this month.
He said when police officers got to the scene, the suspects became violent and attacked them.
“On 24 January 2021 at around 5.40PM, police received an anonymous tip off to the effect that there was an unsanctioned party in Nkulumane at a certain house owned by Ntombizodwa Ndlovu, a female adult aged 36 thereby violating the Covid-19 regulations,” said Insp Ncube.
He said when police arrived, they realised that the gate was locked and they decided to knock and asked to see the house owner.
A house in Nkulumane suburb, Bulawayo where a party was hosted
The request by the police resulted in the accused persons becoming violent.
“The accused persons teamed up from inside and forcibly pushed the gate and attacked the police officers while some of them escaped. Police officers managed to lock the gate using handcuffs and called for a backup” said Insp Ncube.
The backup team arrived and managed to arrest 15 accused persons.
Police said the following people are still at large: Rosemary Mpala (31), Rhoda Ndlovu (59) both of Nkulumane suburb; Babra Kamanga (34) of Cowdray Park another woman also named Ntombizodwa Ndlovu (28) of Nkulumane, Brady Tshuma (29) of Nkulumane, Zanele Makiwa (30) of Lobengula West, Doubt Dube (38) of Lobengula, Gazi Tinashe (34) of Lobengula, Tshabangu Artwell Nqobile (41) of Nkulumane, Knowledge Mpumelelo Mhlanga (34) of Nkulumane, Ndlovu Nkosikhona (34) of Nkulumane, Dube Courage of Nkulumane, Eric Khumalo and Tracy Candy Nyathi both of Nketa and Brendon Sebata (32) of Khumalo suburb. At the crime scene, police recovered a big PA system comprising of four big speakers, one big blue tent and white décor material, four amplifiers, 11 empty crates of beer and two big dishes.
“The arrested accused persons were taken to ZRP Nkulumane where they are detained,” Insp Ncube said. He bemoaned the behaviour of people at a time when people are succumbing to Covid-19.
“It is disheartening that at a time when the nation is grappling to contain the pandemic, some members of the public decide to be reckless by hosting such parties. Covid-19 has killed a lot of our loved ones and we as the police will not stop at anything to bring to book those bent on negligently defying Government directives thereby spreading the virus,” he said.- Chronicle
Incessant and heavy rains being experienced countrywide have seen five adults in Makonde district being hospitalised after being struck by lighting while a trail of destruction on infrastructure has also been reported.
Although Tropical Eloise did not have any impact on the district, the area is currently counting the distraction its loss caused by the heavy rains.
Extensive damage to infrastructure among them electricity poles, bridges, roads, and classroom blocks has been witnessed.
Makonde district development coordinator and civil protection unit chairperson, Mr Benjamin Zivanai said some prospects of good harvests had since diminished after crops were destroyed as large tracts of farmland were flooded leaving gullies, rivulets and large deposits of silt.
“Gudubu Clinic, and Two Tree Angwa Bridges in Ward 3 were partially destroyed by the incessant rains while five individuals were struck by lightning at River Range business centre in Ward 5. One was fatally struck. A schoolgirl in Ward 13 was hospitalised after having been struck by lightning.
“The rains also left trail of destruction in Ward 6 and the Alaska-Copper Queen Road under upgrade in Ward 8 being destroyed,” he said.
He said most bridges in the district were partially or extensively damaged by the rains while infrastructure including school blocks and tobacco bans were also destroyed.
“We have however, proactive councillors and communities who have been working to rehabilitate some of the destroyed infrastructure. Some of the councillors have partnered the council to transport cement to help rehabilitate some of the infrastructure.”
Some people in the district who farm on fertile islands along Mupfure River that passes through Wards 14, 15 and 16 were being marooned as a result of sudden floods.
Mr Zivanai said there was need for council and other departments involved in road rehabilitation to also focus on bridge maintenance.
He warned communities to be wary of impeding disasters that were part of this rainy season pattern.- The Herald

Zimbabwe will tomorrow witness the interment of three national heroes on the same day, the first time this happening, in what will also highlight the grim times the country is enduring because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe yesterday announced the triple burial of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Lieutenant General (Retired) Dr Sibusiso Busi Moyo, who died on Wednesday last week, Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Dr Joel Biggie Matiza and former Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services Commissioner General, Major-General (Retired) Paradzai Zimondi who both died on Friday.
The three died after testing positive for the deadly Covid-19 virus, which has killed more than 1 000 Zimbabweans from related complications.
Minister Kazembe said the burials would be in compliance with the Government’s strict Covid-19 control measures. “They will all be buried on Wednesday at the National Heroes Acre,” said Minister Kazembe.
“We are in the middle of a global pandemic, and all the containment measures will be adhered to. These include limited numbers at the Heroes Acre to curtail the spread of the pandemic,” said Minister Kazembe.
Vice President and Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Constantino Chiwenga sent a condolence message to the Matiza family saying the minister’s death had left a void in Government that would be difficult to fill.
“Before his appointment as Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, he held other demanding portfolios including being Minister of State for Mashonaland East Province, and Deputy Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing.
“The fact that he was entrusted to hold such portfolios signifies the wealth of experience in Government that he accumulated over the years,” said VP Chiwenga.
He said Dr Matiza was a resolute and transformative minister committed to implementing transport and infrastructural development programmes and projects.
VP Chiwenga said Minister Matiza advocated the utilisation of local materials and human capital, which helped to reduce operational costs and empowered the expertise abundant in the country.
VP Chiwenga also mourned Major General (Retired) Zimondi, describing him as a stalwart of the war of liberation, and chronicled some of his exploits, pre and post-independence.
He said Major-General Zimondi joined the liberation struggle as a cadre of the Zimbabwe African National Liberation Army (ZANLA) in 1974 and underwent military training at Mgagao in Tanzania.
The VP said this was the second group to be trained at Mgagao by the late Air Chief Marshal (Retired) Perrance Shiri.
“After completing training, he was chosen to be an instructor. However, that appointment was shortlived as he was nominated to be part of the comrades who were deployed to open a new front in Gaza Province for joint operations with the Zimbabwe People’s Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) under the banner of the Zimbabwe People’s Army (ZIPA).
“From Gaza Province, Cde Nyika was deployed to Manica Province where he was appointed Field Provincial Operational Commander. I had the privilege to work under him as his Provincial Political Commissar until my promotion to Deputy Political Commissar of ZANLA.
“Cde Tonderai Nyika was a close friend and fellow member of the ZANLA High Command. Due to his diligence and acumen, he was given operational tasks that made a great impact in turning around the tide of the liberation war effort against the Rhodesian colonial establishment.”
He said apart from commanding Manica Province, he was part of the ZANLA contingent that carried out the very first attack on Rhodesia’s third largest city, Umtali (now Mutare) in 1978.
“He was, indeed, a great strategist and shrewd commander.”
In post-independence Zimbabwe, Major-General (Retired) Zimondi had an illustrious service in the Zimbabwe National Army where he was Colonel General Staff (Col GS) in charge of army operations, Commander I Infantry Brigade, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Commander, Presidential Guard Brigade.
On retirement in 1997, he was assigned to the then Zimbabwe Prison Service (now the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service) and later became its Commissioner-General.
“Among other modernisation strategies, he spearheaded the transformation of the correctional service to focus on rehabilitation of the offender.
“The late Major General (Retired) was a field commander and administrator par excellence. His contribution after the liberation war was unparalleled.
“He was conscious that one of the major reasons for waging the liberation war was the skewed land ownership perpetrated by the Rhodesians. He therefore, participated fully in the Land Reform Programme.
“In this regard, over and above his life in the services, he became an acclaimed farmer who contributed immensely to Zimbabwe’s efforts to attain food security for the country,” said VP Chiwenga.
Commander Defence Forces (CDF) General Philip Valerio Sibanda said they felt very empty without the late Dr Moyo, as tributes continued to pour for the decorated military commander.
Lieutenant General (Retired) Moyo during his time in the army, worked under the command of General Sibanda, and the country’s top soldier described the loss of the national hero as a big cost to the nation.
“It is a major loss to the country. SB was a very dedicated patriot. As a soldier, we never doubted him.
“If there was something we wanted done, SB was there to do it. We feel very empty without him,” said General Sibanda.
Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, also mourned the late national heroes.
“On my behalf and on behalf of Mashonaland West province and the nation at large, I want to pay my condolences to the President, His Excellency Emmerson Mnangagwa, and the families of the recently departed heroes. The death of Minister (Ellen) Gwaradzimba was a huge blow to women politicians. She was a leading example,” she said.
“Minister Matiza was working to ensure that roads and infrastructure in the province would improve.
“He promised to expedite completion of the Alaska-Copper Queen Road during his last tour. The province had hope and trust in him.
“The minister agreed to tour the road and after his visit, there was a remarkable and commendable pace from the workers.
“The minister was also committed to putting the road on the current budget. We are positive that once the road is completed, it will open economic fortunes for the cotton and gold-rich districts of Kadoma, Sanyati and Gokwe North.” – Herald

CHIEF Justice Luke Malaba has announced that lawyers and litigants filing urgent chamber and bail applications at superior courts are no longer allowed to attend hearings to make oral representations or arguments in response to the 30-day national lockdown regulations.
The new regulation, which came into effect last Friday, is set to remain in effect until the expiry of the Level IV lockdown period. Litigants are also barred from filing any new court applications save for urgent ones and bail applications.
In a statement, CJ Malaba said the new practice direction applied to the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court, High Court, Labour Court and Administrative Court.
“With effect from 22 January 2021, a judge may consider and dispose of an urgent chamber or bail application on the papers without calling the parties to make oral representations or arguments, provided that in respect of bail applications, parties shall be at liberty to file heads of arguments with or immediately after filing their applications or opposing papers,” he said.
In accordance with Paragraph 7 of Practice Direction 1 of 2021, courts are currently offering limited services namely initial remands, urgent processes and applications and bail applications.
“This practice direction is designed to give guidance on the hearing of urgent chamber and bail applications for the duration of the lockdown period,” said CJ Malaba.
The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) also cancelled the traditional ceremony signifying the opening of the legal year in response to the 30-day national lockdown regulations. The 2021 Legal Year started on January 11.
CJ Malaba recently directed judges of all superior courts and magistrates to suspend regular court operations and postpone pending criminal and civil matters in compliance with the 30-day national lockdown regulations.
The suspension of court business comes after Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who is also Health and Child Care Minister, recently announced fresh 30-day lockdown regulations following a spike in coronavirus cases.
The reintroduction of Level IV national lockdown measures necessitated the issuance of the practice direction to guide court operations, filing of pleadings, process and handling of cases before the courts for the duration of the lockdown period.
The filing of new cases, process, documents, pleadings and papers was suspended for 30 days until the end of the lockdown period on February 3 unless the period is either extended or revoked.
All summonses, subpoenas and warnings in court issued directing accused persons and witnesses to appear in court between 5 January 2021 and 3 February 2021 were cancelled and shall be reissued after the expiry of the lockdown period.
Where an offender is required to perform community service at an institution which is closed for the dusration of the lockdown period, the performance of community service was suspended and shall resume on the first business day following that last day of the lockdown period.
All pending civil cases are deemed to have been postponed and the registrars and clerks of court of the respective courts will reset the matters in consultation with the parties in line with set guidelines.
Similarly, all pending criminal cases on remand by virtue of the practice direction have been rolled over for a period of at least 30 days.
CJ Malaba directed registrars of the superior courts to reset the matters down in consultation with the parties.
Courts will, however, continue to hear bail applications and initial remands, where there are constitutional rights involved, and will continue to hear urgent matters. – Herald
Tinashe Sambiri|Zimbabwe needs credible institutions that can facilitate peaceful transition of power.
President Chamisa was commenting on the US power transfer.
He urged Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration to embrace democratic processes that enable the smooth transfer of power.
“I’ve just been watching the US power transfer, transition and inauguration. I would like to congratulate President @JoeBiden on his inauguration as the 46th President of the United States of America and Vice President @KamalaHarris for the landmark achievement.
The successful transition of power has demonstrated the importance of strong institutions in supporting democracy. Even when the system has been subjected to severe stress tests in recent times, it is thanks to strong institutions that democracy has prevailed.
Strong institutions treat everyone with respect, including the outgoing administration which was accorded a dignified exit as the new administration was ushered in. Africa must have strong credible institutions! It is vital for transition to be peaceful and predictable in Zim,” President Chamisa said in a statement.

Refusing to compromise on values. Even in their prime Mugabe refused accept the Muzorewa arrangement, he even walked out of the talks. Also SB Moyo too refused come back from Botswana to be pardoned by the Rhodesian gvt. Chamisa refuses to accept the polad arrangement because he is the leader.
Leaders who matter are constantly vilified. There was a campaign in the 70s where they wanted Mugabe dead by hook or crook. This was despite the Muzorewa arrangement but still Mugabe was their main man. Despite Zanu creating a pseudo Zanu lite through Mwonzora, they keep vilifying Chamisa because they know he is the real deal.
Leaders who matter are persecuted. In 1963 when Mugabe’s son Nhamodzenyika died of Malaria in Ghana, Mugabe was still in custody. He requested to go attend the burial and they refused. Just to cause pain to his person. Chamisa has suffered multiple setbacks inflicted by Zanu pf for example the political finances which were clearly earmarked for MDC Alliance were siphoned to Zanu Lite led by Mwonzora. Just to inflict pain and cause political asphyxiation.
Chamisa has the living child. Remember the two women in the bible one of which had killed their child but wanted to claim that the living is hers. The wise King Solomon said lets split 50/50 and the other one said yes lets split while the other one said if it’s like that then it’s fine give it to her. The same is happening to Chamisa. Khupe and Mwonzora says lets take Harvest House, let’s split the finances but they know pretty well that they lost the election fair and square. Now Chamisa says if it’s truly the offices u want take them its okay. It shows that he is the real deal.
No airtime from the state. There is a proverb which says “what’s the motive behind the single father to wipe a single mother’s mucus” it is normally suspicious to receive mercy and assistance from a ruling party. Remember they said if u dream any other party not ruling wake up and brew some beer, your ancestors have turned their back on you. So whoever the state sponsors truly perpetuate that one party state narrative. Chamisa on the other hand is not given any airplay in the Herald and ZBC because they know once they give him a platform he has obamic oratory skills and he can easily win people over as compared to those who speak boringly and uninspiringly that “2030 I will still be there” whether that is true or false Covid seem to know better.
Chamisa has won over 2.6 million voters at his first try. That speaks of someone very popular. In Polarised Zimbabwe, it is very difficult for one politician to break through even 1 million voters for the first time. Ask Khupe who managed 45000 votes the entire country despite her being in politics since 2000s. This speaks of a Chamisa rising on his predecessor’s success and goodwill and for sure Chamisa is the real deal.
The person who the social media varakashi spends most of their time counterattacking is the real deal. There is no prize for guessing that it is Chamisa who Mnangagwa was referring to when he said “Varakashei musocial media imomo” and the plan is to discredit Chamisa and the Alliance as a redundant party little do they know that the Alliance has seen through all that.
The one whose character is assassinated always has the real deal. Recently we saw President Chamisa and 1st Lady Mama Chamisa and people were mocking the wife. That strategy is a Zanu pf strategy designed to discredit and kill Chamisa’s resolve. One woman tried to say Chamisa raped me but the story could hold water at all and it was dismissed. They are looking even to arrest Chamisa but they do not seem to have any reason to this why they end up trying to soil his otherwise exemplary character.
Chamisa is the real deal because they always talk of sanctions being brought by him. The debate whether he brought them or not is a debate for another day but in the 70s, Edson Zvobgo advocated for the sanctions against the Smith regime and it was okay that time. Now they seek to soil him for calling for sanctions a lie that they inherited from Mugabe. If u want to prove its a lie why would Mugabe vote for Chamisa if his MDC advocated for whites to come back. Mugabe spent his e tire life fighting whites never to come back and he even said at one rally “A vote for the MDC is a vote for whites” so did Mugabe vote for Whites? It’s all hypocrisy. Chamisa has the real deal.
Those inclined to Chamisa and the Alliance ‘ve are persecuted yet those aligned to Lacoste faction are left to roam free. Hopewell was changed from Harare remand to chikurubi all because Chamisa had visited him. What kind of a person is this Chamisa who has caused migraine headaches to the regime. Whosoever Chamisa is, he is truly the real deal. We are game changers
Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance leader, President Nelson Chamisa has commended the bravery of political activists and human rights defenders who are being persecuted by the Zanu PF regime.
In a statement on Friday, President Chamisa described the persecution of Hon. Job Sikhala, Advocate Fadzayi Mahere, Hopewell Chin’ono and Alan Moyo as unacceptable and unconstitutional.

Tinashe Sambiri| Zimbabwe is being run by psychotic, paranoid, incompetent and extractive charlatans-without respect for life and dignity, MDC Alliance vice president, Hon Tendai Biti has said.
Hon Biti condemned the invasion of his offices by Zanu PF thugs at the weekend. Hon Biti also described his visit to Karoi as a nightmare as he was being trailed by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spies.
“We have always argued that since the Nov 2017 coup Zim has veered in a dangerous slippery direction.Zim faces a multifaceted crises of governance legitimacy decay and collapse. We are run by psychotic paranoid incompetent extractive charlatans without respect for life and dignity.
Yesterday’s personal attacks are macrocosm of a new Zimbabwe curved in the desperate images of the usurpers of 2017.
A visit to Hon Mliswa’s farm in Karoi became a nightmare with arrests , threats and vile attacks on national television . Only a scared tin pot Republic does this
We have never been cowards. We have never yielded on matters of principle. We took an oath to uphold the constitution. We made a choice to fight for peacefuland democratic change , to fight fascism and autocracy. It’s a choice we know we may pay the price with our lives,” Hon Biti wrote on Twitter.
Mr Mnangagwa’s cornered administration has been accused of using Coronavirus to eliminate political foes.
By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) Commissioner-General Ms Faith Mazani’s three-year tenure at the helm of the organisation has left a positive impact on the tax collector and the country as a whole, and her new position with the International Monetary Fund highlights her achievements.
Finance and Economic Development Minister Professor Mthuli Ncube, in an online farewell ceremony for Ms Mazani last week, praised her impact.
“Today, we will not cry over our loss, but we will celebrate a brief, but impactful tenure of her service at Zimra’s helm and positively draw from the lessons we have learnt from her work ethic, which undoubtedly benefited Zimra, my ministry and the nation,” Prof Ncube said.
He hoped Ms Mazani would use her new post to benefit the country.
“Her new calling, Resident Tax Administration Advisor at the IMF AFRITAC South will have her oversee and coordinate IMF’s technical assistance to 13 Southern African countries, Zimbabwe included, a great opportunity not only for her, but all of us,” he said.
In her remarks, Ms Mazani said she was humbled by the support she had received from Government and colleagues during her time in office at Zimra.
She was happy with what the authority had accomplished during her time, including beating revenue targets and even surpassing the Sadc target of having tax revenues totalling at least 15 percent of GDP.
“I will now be working with the organisation (IMF) and without the risk of abusing my office, I will pay particular attention to Zimbabwe’s needs,” she said.
“I will be leaving you and it’s sad, but I want to thank you for the opportunity. It opened this opportunity for me to be an asset, not only to the country, but the region as a whole.”
Ms Mazani served Zimra as Commissioner-General for three years, but had worked for the organisation for 37 years at different times and capacities.-statemedia
By A Correspondent- Two Zimbabwean men were last Thursday evening severely burnt while stealing fuel from a pipeline in Kendal area near Phola, South Africa.
Ngoni Nyamuruma (25) and Vimbai Magorosi (35) have since been arrested and are recuperating at Witbank General Hospital under police guard.
South Africa’s organised crime unit, the Hawks is now investigating the matter.
Hawks spokesperson, Captain Dineo Sekgotodi said the suspects will appear at the Phola Magistrate court this week facing charges of malicious damage to property.
“The pair were arrested after Transnet control room detected a fuel pressure drop on the pipeline. Authorities responded to the identified spot and apprehended one suspect who attempted to run away,” she said.
Capt Sekgotodi said one of the suspects had fresh burn marks all over his body.
“There was a big fire in the maize field nearby and upon inspection they realised that the flames were from the burning Transnet pipeline.
The Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team and local police were summoned to the scene for further investigation,”
She said.
The man who was also badly burnt was apprehended after he was found hiding under a bridge.
Emergency services were then called to the scene and they transported Nyamuruma and Magorosi to the Witbank General hospital.
“All the exhibits which included a white Mazda pick-up truck, generator and pieces of charred clothes were confiscated for further investigation.
The suspects are expected to appear before the Phola Magistrate’s Court this week,” said Capt Sekgotodi.
The incident comes a few months after two Zimbabwean men were arrested after stealing 40 000 litres of diesel from a Transnet station in State.
Theft of fuel in South Africa is common and times the fuel is smuggled into Zimbabwe in tankers.
In the last two months border authorities at Beitbridge intercepted fuel tankers smuggling thousands of petrol and diesel destined for Bulawayo and Harare.-statemedia

By A Correspondent- Rugare Gumbo, the last surviving member of the Dare ReChimurenga and the councils’ Secretary of Information has written the following opinion piece listing some of the unrecognized heroes who fought to liberate Zimbabwe.
Gumbo, who was mourning the death of Mukudzei Mudzi who died 10 days ago on the same day Ellen Gwaradzimba died said he was disturbed by how genuine war veterans were never awarded national hero status.
Wrote Gumbo:
We have learned with sorrow and sadness of the death of Cde Mukudzei Mudzi (94) the former Executive Secretary (General Secretary) of Dare reChimurenga of ZANU.
Mudzi represented a rare breed of young students who sacrificed the comfort and benefits of student life that accrued to Africans who had achieved high academic and professional qualifications to join Herbert Chitepo, Henry Hamadziripi, Noel Mukono and others to wage war against the colonial settlers from 1964-1966.
Today, Mudzi becomes another one on the long list of our true National Heroes who have not been recognised as such by the ruling regime.
These include:
Henry Hamadziripi (Member of Dare reChimurenga)
Noel Mukono (Member of Dare reChimurenga)
Mathias Gurira (Chief Protocol Officer and Member of Dare reChimurenga)
Cletus Chigohwe (National Security and Intelligence)
Joseph Chimurenga (Member of High Command, Field Commander Mozambique Front)
Saul Sadza-Magaya (High Command and Administration)
James Nyikadzinashe (High Command, Security and Intelligence)
Baya-Chihota (Commander Military Headquarters Mozambique)
Chimedza (High Command)
They say that history is written by the victors, but we know who our true heroes are.-NewzWire
The past few days have confirmed the need for unity in diversity, tolerance, shared national vision and a sense of oneness in a crisis in Zimbabwe.
Within a short space of time, we have lost many lives due to the deadly Corona virus. While we are not the only ones who have been seriously hit by COVID-19, the way we have particularly responded to the crisis is a cause for concern.
When we were expected to be working together to minimise the effects of this pandemic, we are visibly divided as a society.
We are not able to mourn our COVID-19 victims together. We are not even concerned together about the potential social, economic and political developments caused by the rate at which we are losing our leaders, friends and relatives.
What is currently hanging on our various social media platforms and what is being shared through the official public media and by key ruling party stalwarts have not been helpful to an already fragile society like ours. What is visible is a deeply divided country, one which has virtually thrown away the whole concept of Ubuntu.
Yet, one component of our society strongly feels that at times Ubuntu can not be matched to “the level of poverty caused by some of our leaders who are under threat of COVID-19”.
Here lies two strong arguments for and against the Ubuntu concept. Ubuntu is the capacity in African culture to express compassion, reciprocity, dignity, humanity and mutuality in the interests in building and maintaining societies with mutual caring and also justice in its various forms.
COVID-19 official protocols have already affected our traditional ways of handling funerals and other social events. It has forced us to forego some of the cultural procedures expected of us as Africans when we are faced with the enemy, death.
However, our reaction to the death of our fellow citizens in the last couple of days has been greatly corrupted by the way our politics has been shaping up. COVID-19 has come to expose the already deep sitted hatred among our people.
One half of our society has clearly seen it fit to openly “celebrate” death, not only death but death of those they feel “robbed” them of their future. This is unprecedented in the long history of Zimbabwe.
Those falling within this celebrating group are fiercely and even militarily holding to their position that indeed, Ubuntu can be justifiably thrown to the dogs at times. Yooo! The colleagues are firmly rooted in their stance.
On the other hand, another half of our society, through the official national broadcasters and ruling party structures, have chosen to attack individuals within the opposition political parties thereby further widening the social and political cracks that exist within an already polarised nation. Worse still, Government officials through their supposed public social media platforms have even went on to amplify some conspiracy theories, which is dangerous for a divided nation like ours.
This situation simply calls for unity among Zimbabweans. It calls for us to embrace a common national vision-not one forced onto the people by a small section of a single political party.
While others are celebrating the death of fellow Zimbabweans because they do not belong to the same political parties, South Africans are currently united in mourning one of their own.
The death of Minister Jackson Mthembu, who was laid to rest this afternoon in Mpumalanga Province, clearly showed that it possible for people from different political parties to mourn a fellow citizen together.
Following the events in South Africa since the demise of Mthembu, one saw goodness in a crisis. Yet, this has not been the case in our motherland, Zimbabwe.
Our Government and ruling party leaders through the public official media and also through their private social media platforms, did not help the situation. Instead of promoting unity, and instead of using reconciliatory tones, they chose to aim at individual opposition leaders. Instead of rallying the nation towards a national solution in a crisis, we saw them accusing some key opposition leaders of working against our country. This was and remains unnecessary.
The case in point is that of Hon Tendai Biti. Surely, Hon Biti can not be accused of working against his country. In any case, the “celebration” of the unfortunate developments due to COVID-19, is coming from different citizens and not Biti alone, not even opposition activists alone but “citizens”. Indeed, it is coming from a generation that feels that its future was robbed.
From those that feel that their rights have been variously violated. This is a generation that has been crying for help but “has not been heard”. Surely, this goes beyond Biti or any other single opposition leader.
The citizens are hurt, they are hurt to the extent of forgetting about Ubuntu. Following discussions on the social media platforms, one can see the trend: citizens are raising pertinent issues that have always been dividing our country.
Lack of accountability with regards to COVID-19 donations and indeed other public resources; a leadership that has not been prioritising local health institutions over the years; a leadership that has failed to say “sorry” for the past atrocities (mainly politically motivated)….the list is long but surely seems convincing.
Unity and shared vision is the way to go in a crisis. It is unfortunate that our people have been forced to celebrate death, which is not characteristic of Zimbabweans and Africans at large. The President called for unity in his address to the nation yesterday. He invited solidarity but it looks like this came too late and in a mild form.
We need to work together to fight COVID-19 as the pandemic knows no political party or tribe. Already, we have been hit in one way or the other.
We have lost friends, relatives and national leaders. We have even lost our clergy who have been our frontliners in this pandemic period. We have lost our unsung heroes and heroines in the name of medical personnel and grave diggers. Our medical colleagues are particularly critical and need our support and not accusation as we hear from some Government figures.
For the sake of moving forward, I humbly appeal to our political parties from both halves to cool it down.
Tinashe Gumbo is a human rights defender and social commentator from Mberengwa.
Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance has dismissed the statement issued by Information Ministry Permanent Secretary Nick Mangwana accusing doctors of ” killing Zanu PF officials.”
Mangwana shocked all and sundry at the weekend when he accused local doctors of being used by government opponents to eliminate top officials.
MDC Alliance Nambibia has strongly condemned Mr Mnangagwa’s hysterical remarks:
OUR DOCTORS AND NURSES ARE CERTIFIED NATIONAL HEROES NOT ASSASSINS ! MDC ALLIANCE NAMIBIA FUMES AT NICK MANGWANA.
25 JANUARY 2021
Mdc Alliance Namibia has noted with great astonishment the continued victimisation and state-sponsored harassment of doctors by the clueless and desperate Zanupf morons in the name of Nick Mangwana.
After the former corrupt Minister of Health Obadiah Moyo illegally pocketed 60 million US dollars donated to arrest the spread of the deadly Covid-19 pandemic, hot-headed Nick Mangwana still wants to hoodwink the masses by blaming innocent and diligent doctors for the death of Zanupf leaders who attended parties ignoring Covid-19 rules and regulations.
We are quite perturbed by such levels of political hypocrisy manifesting in gross misgovernance and an attempt to blackmail our national heroes and heroines who are using all their organs to save lives under horrible working conditions and meagre salaries. It is absolutely astounding to hear a deliberate branding of certain medical professionals as “medical assassins” by an insensitive and overambitious senior government official. As a district, we demand an end to the threats of arbitrary arrests, and politically-motivated deregistration of hardworking and committed medical practitioners who are alleged to have communicated unethical statements on social media.
Furthermore, it is not a crime to advocate for improved working conditions and handsome salaries in the health sector. It is a public secret that our health fraternity is now dilapidated due to looting and corruption. Obadiah Moyo who is walking free after stealing the money which was supposed to buy PPEs and that is what the medical practitioners are demanding. The rogue government must stop their continuous persecution and torture of our health care professionals, instead it must appreciate the sacrifice from these frontline soldiers who are giving it all for unsalted peanuts (meagre salaries).
Moreover, the incessant intimidation and attack on doctors is obviously going to unnecessarily destabilise the health fraternity during this juncture when the nation is expected to be focusing on combating the deadly Covid-19 pandemic. Nick Mangwana and his politically inept Zanupf must consider the need for a serious collaboration between the desperate and empty government, health workers and the citizenry at large. They must immediately halt politicising everything including the health sector through its bullying tactics. We urge the health fraternity , the general populace and all social democrats to resist Zanupf shenanigans meant to scare and shy away our competent doctors like what they did to Dr Peter Magombeyi who was abducted and tortured for speaking on behalf of the suppressed health workers.
In a nutshell, Mdc Alliance Namibia applauds the pivotal role played by doctors , nurses and cleaners who are working tirelessly to dish out essential services during the pandemic , risking their lives and the lives of their children to save helpless citizens. We salute our Doctors, Nurses and all medical practitioners, the brave soldiers with varlour and nerve to continuously fight day and night to save lives without Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs). These are the most decorated national fighters for a better and healthy Great Zimbabwe.
Aston Villa coach Dean Smith has hailed Marvelous Nakamba’s performance in the 2-0 victory against Newcastle United on Saturday.
The Zimbabwean midfielder made his second league start of the season and played a blinder. He made 56 accurate passes (98%), more than any player in the game.
The 27-year old came in place for suspended John McGinn and was paired with Douglas Luiz in the central midfield.
Smith told Villa TV: “It was a good, solid performance, certainly first half, second half I thought we overplayed a little bit too much at times.
“But for a final ball, I thought we could have scored a couple more as well.
“But, again, team spirit, work-rate, effort, everything there is there for all to see. Our quality on the ball, I thought we controlled the ball really well.

ZIFA president Felton Kamambo ordered the substitution of Qadr Amin during the Warriors’ defeat to Mali last night, it has emerged.
Amin was pulled out with less than three minutes played in the first half and replaced by Ian Nekati, a change which came as a huge surprise.
It has since been revealed by a source in the Warriors camp that Kamambo texted team manager Wellington Mpandare to tell coach Zdravko Logarusic to make the change, as the president feared for the player’s health.
Amin reportedly does have heart complications and even though the source insists the player was passed fit to play in the game, Kamambo still ordered for his substitution on the basis of the game being a dead rubber hence there was no need to take any risks.
“The president texted Wellaz (Mpandare) telling him to tell the coach to take off Qadr,” said the source.
“Qadr was passed fit by the team doctor but Kamambo just made the order to avoid any risk since we were playing just for pride,” he added.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe
Warriors star Tino Kadewere says he is delighted to have scored in last night’s derby against St-Etienne and dedicated the victory to the fans.
For the second time this season, the lanky striker scored twice in the derby, this time Lyon coming out comfortable 5-0 winners.
It was his eighth and ninth goal of the season respectively.
Speaking to the club website after the game, the Zimbabweans striker said: “We are very happy. I’m happy to have scored this double. This victory is for our supporters. This will propel us through to the end of the season. You build up trust.”
Real Madrid star striker Karim Benzema sent him a message before the game and Kadewere was asked if he had seen it.
“Unfortunately I don’t have Twitter but if I had seen it, I would have scored more goals (laughs). Getting a message from such a big player and someone I look up to really gives motivation so I’m really happy that one of the strikers that made me sign for Lyon is following my progress.”
“That gives me confidence as well and I really wanna thank him for the belief and for the support,” he added.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe

According to a Ministry of Health official Dr. Mudyirandima, when Zimbabwe finally get its hands on the COVID-19 Vaccination, here is a list of the people who will be prioritized for vaccination:
Frontline workers
MPs
Members of the security sector
Ministers
The official did not give a reason why those mentioned above will be given priority over the elderly and the vulnerable like in other countries.
Zimbabwe is yet to acquire the COVID-19 vaccine.
Twimbos have already started to respond to the tweet asking for government officials to explain the priority list among other things:
The most common symptoms of Covid-19 are: fever, dry cough and fatigue.
Other symptoms that are less common and may affect some patients include: loss of taste or smell; nasal congestion; conjunctivitis (also known as red eyes); sore throat; headache; muscle or joint pain; different types of skin rash; nausea or vomiting; diarrhoea; chills or dizziness. Symptoms of severe Covid-19 disease include: shortness of breath; loss of appetite; confusion; persistent pain or pressure in the chest; and high temperature (above 38 °C). More severe and rare neurological complications such as strokes, brain inflammation, delirium and nerve damage.
People of all ages who experience fever and/or cough associated with difficulty breathing or shortness of breath, chest pain or pressure, or loss of speech or movement should seek medical care immediately.
If possible, call your health care provider, hotline (in Zimbabwe the number is 2019) or health facility first, so you can be directed to the right clinic.
What should I do if I have Covid-19 symptoms?
If you have any symptoms suggestive of Covid-19, call your health care provider or Covid-19 hotline for instructions and find out when and where to get a test, stay at home for 14 days away from others and monitor your health. If you have shortness of breath or pain or pressure in the chest, seek medical attention at a health facility immediately.
Call your health care provider or hotline in advance for direction to the right health facility. If you live in an area with malaria or dengue fever, seek medical care if you have a fever. If local guidance recommends visiting a medical centre for testing, assessment or isolation, wear a medical mask while travelling to and from the facility and during medical care.
Also keep at least a one-metre distance from other people and avoid touching surfaces with your hands.
This applies to adults and children.
Are antibiotics effective in preventing or treating Covid-19?
Antibiotics do not work against viruses; they only work on bacterial infections. Covid-19 is caused by a virus, so antibiotics do not work. Antibiotics should not be used as a means of prevention or treatment of Covid-19. In hospitals, physicians will sometimes use antibiotics to prevent or treat secondary bacterial infections which can be a complication of Covid-19 in severely ill patients. They should only be used as directed by a physician to treat a bacterial infection.
Precautionary measures
Stay safe by taking some simple precautions, such as physical distancing, wearing a mask, especially when distancing cannot be maintained, keeping rooms well ventilated, avoiding crowds and close contact, regularly cleaning your hands, and coughing into a bent elbow or tissue — www.who.int

Tinashe Sambiri|Chief Marozva of Bikita, real name Philip Mudhe has succumbed to Coronavirus.
Chief Marozva succumbed to the deadly pandemic in Bikita on Sunday.
Below is the MDC Alliance condolence message:
25 January 2021
Chief Philip Mudhe Marozva passed on yesterday in Bikita. He succumbed to the deadly coronavirus pandemic.
We mourn with Chief Marozva’s family and the totality of the people of the Marozva Chieftainship.
We also Mourn with the Zion Church of Christ ( Bishop WIRI)congregation at Beardmore which he led and the whole Zion Church of Christ fraternity in Zimbabwe.
We take comfort in the knowledge that he served the people well both for their earthly as well as spiritual wellbeing as chief, as senator and indeed as a church leader.
As we mourn the passing on of Chief Marozva, we challenge regime to be serious about people’s lives during this time of Covid-19 to educate, equip and capacitate chiefs so that their communities can be safe from the ravages of COVID-19.
Chiefs as custodians of tradition, their homes are hives of activity. Communities flock the chiefs residence for resolution of disputes, to get advice and to get material help. Chiefs are therefore exposed very deeply to the Virus. In fact if poorly managed chiefs’ homes can be Covid-19 super spreaders.
Accordingly all Chiefs must be educated on how to handle community issues during this period of the pandemic. There must be centres for Covid-19 management. Chiefs and their assistants should be treated as frontline workers, get PPEs , including masks as they will unavoidably interact with a lot of people some of whom would be carriers of the deadly virus.
With such proactivity, the Life of Chief Marozva could have been saved to give him another day to serve the people of Marozva. Chief Philip Mudhe Marozva shall be very sadly missed. We cherish the time we had with him and we say Rest In Peace the peoples Chief, Senator and Mufundisi.

“As I reflect on the struggle for freedom…

By A Correspondent | The Ugandan military has moved to disobey a High Court ruling ordering them to vacate popular opposition leader Bobi Wine and stop impeding his freedoms.
The development comes just after the disputed just ended national election which nations like Zimbabwe have condemned.
Announced Bobi Wine on Monday afternoon:
“The High Court ruled this morning that my continued house arrest (11 days now) is illegal & unconstitutional.
“Several hours later, the military still surrounds my home, blocking access to all! Perhaps (as always) waiting for Gen. Museveni’s orders on the next course of action.”
Wine has been holed up at his home in Magere following the disputed election which returned President Yoweri Museveni to office for a sixth term.
Wine has not left his home since he cast his ballot on Thursday January 14.
He has been prevented from leaving the premises sice the day soldiers and police surrounded the compound. The soldiers were also preventing anyone from entering or leaving. A planned visit by the US Ambassador to Uganda, for instance, was blocked by security officials.
A comment from the military could not be obtained at the time of writing. – More to follow

By A Correspondent- Corruption syndicates involving medical doctors, police officers, mortuary staff and agents of some little known funeral service companies are charging between US$40 and US$100 to speed up the post-mortem process and even have bodies of accident victims released for burial without Covid-19 tests.
In some cases it appears that the agents are just extorting money, without actually doing anything or having anything done. In other cases they say if you take the sample to a private laboratory you can have the body released as soon as the result comes back.
At the centre of the graft are agents, touting for clients at hospital mortuaries and entrances, who claim to be connected to medical doctors and police officers on duty at the mortuaries. While touting for clients on behalf of their funeral service companies, they end up making extra money through soliciting bribes from bereaved families who do not wish to wait any longer for the bodies to be released.
They tell families it can take 48 hours using the Government hospital testing facilities for the results of a Covid-19 test to reach the mortuary.
The practice is rampant at Sally Mugabe Hospital where some funeral service agents mill around the mortuary waiting area touting for clients, or more recently following strict rules to cut numbers gathering at the mortuary, in the main hospital car park.
Sally Mugabe Hospital chief executive Dr Christopher Pasi said his office had received a number of reports since last year on the corrupt practices but had great difficulty trying to pin anything down.
“The corruption involves two willing participants, who agree to break the law and keep it a secret. It is difficult to apprehend the culprits because none of the parties is ready to give us any information. Investigations are still in progress.”
Dr Pasi said the hospital was overwhelmed with bodies and corruption syndicates may be taking advantage of the backlog in Covid-19 testing, to swindle people.
“It is true that our results may take longer because we have a backlog. All sudden death bodies are tested for Covid-19 before post-mortem. We cannot rule out the possibility that some corrupt elements may take advantage of the backlog to extort bereaved families,” said Dr Pasi.
The Herald went undercover at Sally Mugabe and Chitungwiza hospitals with a view to establish the truth. At Sally Mugabe Hospital, the reporter was approached by an agent who introduced himself as “Runzirwai” marketing services offered by “Geora Funeral Services”.
Runzirwai claimed he was connected to some medical doctors and mortuary staff who could assist in speeding up the release of bodies for burial.
“Covid-19 testing and the release of results may take up to 48 hours. Post-mortem will then be done when the results are known. As we speak, the doctor is in and waiting to do post-mortem in respect of bodies whose Covid-19 results are out.
“I can go inside and ask him to work on your relative’s body without Covid-19 test so that you get your body today for burial. I will hear how much he wants for the service but it is a big risk to carry out post-mortem on a body whose Covid-19 status is not known. To be safe just reserve US$100 to be shared among all those involved, including the police and the mortuary staff,” he said.
Because of the Covid-19 hospital rules barring visitors, most funeral service companies’ agents were touting for clients in a car park near Sally Mugabe Hospital.
In the car park, the reporter met another agent who introduced himself as “Josphat”. He was marketing the services offered by a company called “Siloton Funeral Services”. To prove his strong links with medical doctors, Josphat called a man that he claimed was a medical doctor and put his phone on loud speaker for the “client” to hear.
The said doctor’s number was saved as “Chiremba” on Josphat’s mobile phone. The doctor said he was in town but referred Josphat to someone called “Mutangirwa” for assistance. “Here in Harare your money makes life easier.
Doctors may even leave their work at private surgeries and rush here to assist you. The doctor said he will be back around noon and if you are now in a rush we can wait for him. But if you are impatient, we can engage the doctor on duty now.
“If you have US$40, we can do it now and ensure you collect the body in an hour’s time. I have to take your papers to the police post and deal with the officers there before taking them to the mortuary,” said Josphat.
At Chitungwiza Hospital two men, who were sitting in a Nissan Vanette inscribed “Hatina Musha Funeral Services”, said there was a backlog in Covid-19 testing at the hospital and people had an option to take their relatives’ samples for testing to external laboratories.
“Under normal circumstances, swabs are taken from the corpse and you, as relatives, are given the samples and you take them to Lancet where you will pay US$60.
“Since you said your relative died in an accident, we can talk to the doctor on duty and negotiate the immediate release of the body without a Covid-19 test. It is a matter of paperwork and you get the body in an hour. “You simply have to pay US$50 but it is negotiable,” said one of the agents.
By A Correspondent- Self-styled apostolic sect leader Herbert Senda who is popularly known as Madzibaba Enock of Johane Masowe Echishanu-Nyenyedzi Nomwe has been dragged to the magistrates’ court after he reportedly sold church property and pocketed the proceeds.
Madzibaba Enock who is not new to controversy neither is he a stranger in the court corridors appeared before magistrate Tendai Muchini on Friday charged with fraud and theft of trust property.
He was granted $15 000 bail before he was ordered to report twice per week to the police as part of his bail conditions.
The matter was remanded to 1 March 2021.
According to The Sunday Mail, it is the State’s case that sometime in August 2017, Senda misrepresented to home-seeker Munyaradzi Chaguta that he was the owner of a residential stand in Budiriro, which belonged to his church’s housing co-operative. He proceeded to sell the stand for US$10 000.
Chaguta agreed to pay a US$2 400 deposit and monthly instalments of US$500 until the debt was settled. Prosecutor Desire Chidanhire told the court that Senda sold the residential stand fully aware that one Tinashe Sithole had already paid a development fee of US$3 500 to the co-operative for the stand.
The State further alleges that as a result, the housing co-operative was prejudiced of US$4 751. On the second charge, Senda allegedly sold a vehicle belonging to the housing co-operative before converting the proceeds to personal use.
The State alleges that in August 2017 Senda was approached by Munodawafa Zambezi, who wanted to exchange his commuter omnibus for a residential stand.
After deliberations with the housing co-operative executive, an agreement was reached, which saw Zambezi being given two residential stands in exchange for his vehicle. The vehicle was entrusted to Senda as the sect’s leader. He, however, sold the vehicle and converted the proceeds to his own use, prejudicing the housing cooperative of US$10 000.
By A Correspondent- Zanu-PF political commissar Victor Matemadanda says the Covid-19 pandemic would not destroy the ruling party as yearned for by its detractors but will emerge stronger.
This comes after the virus claimed the lives of senior Zanu-PF and government officials.
Matemadanda said while coronavirus had robbed Zanu-PF and the government of dedicated cadres, the party would soldier on. He said it was delusional for some to think that Covid-19 is killing Zanu-PF people only.
Matemadanda added that Zanu-PF was not a party of individuals but it was a party which had stood the test of time.
By Jane Mlambo| Independent Norton legislator Temba Mliswa has fumed over the conferring of national hero status on the late Transport minister Biggie Matiza saying the inconsistencies and the lack of a clear criteria had rendered the National Heroes Acre a meaningless place.
Posting on Twitter, Mliswa questioned if the decision to confer Matiza with national hero status meant a change in the criteria on who is buried at the much revered burial place.
Below is Mliswa’s full thread…
“I have no problem with the late JB Matiza, who was a hardworking Minister. However the conferring of hero status on him become a problem when one realises epic war veterans like Dumiso Dabengwa are not there. The inconsistencies are just shocking.
“Is this the start of a changing criteria considering JB was never part of the struggle? He could have been made a provincial hero, yes but having overlooked other meritorious war veterans only to confer some like JB is shocking. What is the criteria now? Is there even one?
“No wonder Mugabe refused to be buried there, the place has lost meaning due to politicisation. There are many war veterans, ZAPU people, not buried there but have enough credentials. Taifunga kuti zvekuHeroes zvine zera, it appears that’s not the case yangove ndonga ndonga.
“An oversight, yes Dabengwa was made a hero but the point remains the absence of a national criteria, solid and recognisable is making Heros Acre meaningless. The criteria cannot be a wavering and politicised template tinkered with at a whim.
“The end result of a criteria that is not national but political and partisan is that we shall ultimately have a shrine that is littered with henchmen of those with power and not necessarily national heroes.
“The place is supposed to embody the values of people whom we look up to across the political divide; whose legacies span the limitations of ordinary people. It’s not supposed to be a mere private burial ground for recompensing political allies.
“We cannot use a national shrine to settle personal& political scores. Today it’s not a place that cements one’s legacy as a national hero as anyone can be buried there. Mugabe started this whole thing by refusing personal opponents the right to be buried there. Now pafumuka.”
By A Correspondent- The Shurugwi-Mhandamabwe Highway is set to be closed to traffic after flooding undercut part of the road at the Musavedzi River bridge leaving it hanging precariously – posing danger to humans and vehicles passing through it.
Unless a detour is established, the road is set to be closed as the section of the road has been destroyed by floods following incessant rains that have been pounding the area in the past week.
The road is vital not just to locals in Shurugwi District but also to the entire country as it is used to transport goods and services from Beitbridge to towns and cities such as Gweru, Kwekwe, Chegutu and Gokwe.
The route is shorter and makes business sense to use for ferrying goods and services to the above towns and cities unlike going via Zvishavane which is longer. Shurugwi South MP Edmond Mukaratigwa said the road near the bridge must be closed to avert disaster.
He said at the moment, one vehicle can pass the bridge at a time.
“In fact, it’s all about averting more losses of life and economic assets. We cannot get into the hyena’s mouth with our full conscience functional,” he said.
Mukaratigwa said another alternative is introducing a weight to protect the road section and the bridge from further destruction.
“In the meantime, we can caution heavier trucks for example those above a certain tonnage, not to use road until it is maintained or have one vehicle pass at a time as I have already more pragmatically suggested,” he said.
Mukaratigwa said another road can be opened.
“It’s all about preserving life and assets,” he said.
The section of the road as one approaches the bridge, he said, is really a hazard that cannot be ignored any longer.
“Using this road is cost effective connecting more particularly people of Shurugwi South with both Gweru, Shurugwi town, Bulawayo, Chegutu through to Chirundu and Mhandambwe linking right from Beitbridge,” he said.
Mukaratigwa said when there is a disconnection like this, people’s normal business and supply chains are disrupted. He said alternative routes are more costly due to longer distances and, discourages direct linkages that should exist for their associated advantages like timely supplies of economic services among others.
“For example, where rural mothers used to travel in one day to town, they may end up doing so for two days with negative consequences on their other gender roles in the home. By A Correspondent- The National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) board will soon convene a “crisis” meeting to map the way forward in terms of the parastatal’s restructuring following the demise of the entity’s acting general manager.
Mr Joseph Mashika who was appointed NRZ acting general manager on August 1 last year passed on last week Sunday at a time the board and management were restructuring of the entity.
In an interview on Friday, NRZ public relations manager Mr Nyasha Maravanyika said the meeting which would be held in Bulawayo could have been held over the weekend but was rescheduled.
This he said was due to other commitments by the board chair Advocate Martin Dinha that have cropped up.
The meeting will also focus on strategising operations to improve performance after the firm in 2020 moved 2,5 million tonnes of cargo from 2,8 million a year earlier.
The dip in freight volume has largely been attributed to the detrimental impact of the Covid-19 pandemic.
“Going forward as NRZ, the board has quickly ordered that we have what I would call a ‘crisis’ meeting or ‘refocused’ meeting to review NRZ operations.
“The meeting is coming as a result of the demise of the acting general manager; it is also coming when we dipped in terms of our performance.
“In 2019, we had 2,8 million tonnes and then dropped to 2,5 million tonnes in 2020 and the dip is largely premised on the issue of the Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.
As part of a restructuring exercise which began last year, NRZ is trimming the number of executive directors from six to three.
Last year, the parastatal’s board sacked general manager Engineer Lewis Mukwada, and three other senior executives namely: director marketing Mrs Elector Mafunga, director operations Mr Samson Bhuza and director corporate services Mr Misheck Matanhire.
NRZ has since submitted to Government some of the names of the interviewed and incumbent candidates to fill in senior executive posts under a leaner management structure the entity has adopted.
On the restructuring exercise, Mr Maravanyika said NRZ was pursuing the initiative, which is expected to add impetus on the entity’s transformation.
“There is no going back in terms of restructuring of NRZ, so this meeting is going to look at all those things because when the board relieved most of the top management you find that the management at NRZ currently, is depleted.
“So, the board has to come up with a working theme and make sure that the organisation continues to go on the vision and thrust of the shareholder (Government),” he said.
In 2020, the parastatal announced that it had been forced to revise downward its annual freight movement target by 10 percent for the year following a significant drop in business owing to a myriad of challenges NRZ faced in 2019.
Part of the parastatal’s challenges are largely to do with the company’s dilapidated rail infrastructure and obsolete equipment, which includes locomotives, coaches and wagons.
In 2019, the rail entity missed its target of hauling 4,2 million tonnes of cargo, only managing to transport 2,8 million tonnes, which again was 17,6 percent less compared with the 2018’s achievement of 3,4 million tonnes.
At its peak in the 1990s, the company used to move about 14,4 million tonnes of freight against an installed capacity of 18 million tonnes.-statemedia
By Jane Mlambo| The South African police minister, General Bheki Cele has said he is concerned about the alleged conduct of Mpumalanga Premier, Refilwe Mtsweni-Tsipane who was seen on National TV, not wearing a mask in public.
This matter was brought to the attention of Cele on various platforms by concerned South Africans.
Minister Cele says the not wearing of masks in public, is a non-negotiable.
“If South Africa wants to beat this invisible enemy which is COVID-19, we simply can’t let our guard down. This is why I have spoken to the National Commissioner of the South African Police Service, General Khehla Sitole to look into the matter of the Premier and an investigation must be conducted and necessary action must be taken.” – Cele concluded.
Cele reminded South Africans that the wearing of a mask in public is mandatory for every person, under the adjusted alert Level 3 Lockdown regulations.
“Any person who fails to comply with a verbal instruction by a law enforcement officer, to wear a mask, commits an offence, and is, upon conviction, liable to a fine or a period of imprisonment, not exceeding six months or both,” said Cele.
A rifle owner appeared in court last week for supplying the firearm used in the heist of the almost US$2,8 million along Chinhoyi Road, after the suspects told him they wanted to use the gun for poaching and return it with some game meat.
Tawanda Chikeya of Granary Phase 3, Harare, appeared at the Harare Magistrates’ Court charged with lending, offering or hiring a firearm to “any person other than a firearm dealer’’.
Chikeya, a registered firearm owner, was not asked to plead to the charges when he appeared before magistrate Mr Sheunesu Matova, who remanded him to February 25 on $15 000 bail.
It is alleged that on January 6 this year at around 7am, he gave the late Andrew Zigara a 22 Hornet rifle with nine rounds of ammunition for poaching and in return was promised game meat.
Zigara returned the rifle to Chikeya at around 3pm on the same day, but with only eight rounds of ammunition. Prosecuting, Mr Moses Mapanga said Zigara failed to notify Chikeya within seven days how the other round of ammunition was used.
It later emerged when police were investigating the robbery of US$2,8 million along the Harare-Chinhoyi Road that the round fired on the day belonged to Chikeya’s rifle.
Zigara died from wounds he sustained after being shot by detectives in Zaka when he resisted arrest over his participation in the heist.
In the heist, ZB Bank lost US$2 775 000 and $43 090, which was to be distributed among its branches, with Chinhoyi receiving US$75 000, Kadoma US$25 000, Kwekwe and Gweru US$150 000 each, Bulawayo US$2 million, Gwanda US$50 000 and Zvishavane US$100 000.
This was after the crew that was travelling in a Toyota Hilux single cab with a canopy secured with a tracker and emergency panic button fitted on the cash delivery trip picked up some passengers at Westgate and then at the Inkomo Barracks turn-off.
The crew also collected a box containing $43 090 at the first tollgate for banking. Upon reaching the 60km peg, the car was stopped and the crew was disarmed and manhandled. An Isuzu twin-cab immediately arrived at the scene with people armed with pistols.
They took the bank’s Hilux about 900 metres off the main road, and off-loaded the cash boxes before disappearing.
By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba has denied reports that the Vice President who doubles up as the Health Minister Constantino Chiwenga was flown to China for treatment.
Last week Mnangagwa cut short his annual leave after ordering his deputy and Acting President, Chiwenga to take a rest.
Chiwenga, who has undergone extensive treatment in India, South Africa and China over the last two years was “worse for wear” during a recent meeting with Mnangagwa, which prompted his side-lining, according to Charamba.
In a series of tweets responding to weekend reports that the government had been paralysed by Covid-19, with Mnangagwa being forced to self-isolate and his two deputies both ill with the virus, Charamba dismissed the reports as “needless speculation.”
Mnangagwa, he said, “has never, is yet, to isolate on account of exposure to the coronavirus,” Charamba said. Four ministers have died from the virus, the latest being transport minister Joel Biggie Matiza.
“Vice President Kembo Mohadi took his annual leave soon after his term as Acting President ended. He is very much around and well enough to sit musingly watching his lovely herd,” Charamba tweeted, adding that Mohadi was at his farm in Beitbridge.
“As for Vice President Chiwenga, I can only say just as well rumours don’t kill. It they did, the man would long have joined his ancestors! Beyond taking over as Acting President while the President is on his traditional annual leave – which this year has proved more of technical fixture than a real break – the Vice President has been working well into the early hours of most of the days, both in his office and at home.”
Charamba said Chiwenga’s busy work schedule had been “made worse by a few of his relatives and associates who have succumbed to Covid-19,” adding:
“A few days ago, he looked worse for wear and the President ordered him to take some deserved rest. He would have wanted to be with the President at Thursday’s sorrowful burial event, in fact insisted to do so. The President restated his order and the Vice President had to watch proceedings from home.”
Charamba said Chiwenga would “resume work shortly.”
Responding to ZimLive enquiries over reports that the 64-year-old had been flown to China for treatment, Charamba said tersely: “No truth, not an iota.”
Chiwenga’s ailment has never been publicly disclosed, but numerous media reports suggest he was treated for esophageal stricture, the abnormal narrowing of the esophagus which causes patients difficulties in swallowing and leads to dramatic weight loss.-ZimLive
A High Court has ordered Ugandan police and army officers to vacate the premises of popstar cum politician Bobi Wine.
In a ruling delivered on Monday, the court also found that the continued detention of the opposition politician, whose real name is Robert Kyagulanyi, is unlawful and unconstitutional.
Wine has been holed up at his home in Magere after a disputed election returned President Yoweri Museveni to office for a sixth term.
He has not left his home since he cast his ballot on Thursday January 14. He was prevented from leaving the premises from Friday as soldiers and police surrounded the compound.
The soldiers also preventing anyone from entering or leaving. A planned visit by the US Ambassador to Uganda, for instance, was blocked by security officials.
By A Correspondent- In a rather unexpected maintenance case, a married woman applied for maintenance for her two-year-old son from her ex-lover, claiming that he is the father of the child.
Francisca Musundire who is married to and living with her husband Tammy Mahara dragged her former lover Archbold Mukatshelwa to the Mutare Civil Court insisting that he is the father of her son. Musundire told the court, that she had a brief relationship with Mukatshelwa after she had temporarily separated from her husband Mahara. She said that the relationship resulted in the birth of her now 2-year-old son.
Musundire went on to say that her husband, who works as money-changer in the Mutare Central Business District is having challenges in taking care of the child, whom he knows not to be his.
The Manica Post reports that Musundire told the court,
“I pray for Mukatshelwa to take care of our two-year-old baby. I am staying with my husband and sometimes it is difficult for him to take care of another man’s child.
“Sometimes he refuses to take care of the child especially now when he is not feeling well. I need money to buy medication and take the child to Harare for specialised medical attention and I cannot raise it anywhere,”
Mukatshelwa on the other hand challenged the maintenance claim saying that the paternity of the child is doubtful. He challenged his former lover to prove that he is indeed the father through DNA tests.
Through his lawyer, Mr Chris Ndlovu of Ndlovu and Gonese Legal Practitioners, Mukatshelwa also argued that the DNA tests should be done at Musundire’s expense since she is the one claiming that the child is his, and not her husband’s.
“Musundire should prove at her own expense that the child does not belong to her husband, but to my client. That can only be done through DNA tests,”
Presiding magistrate Lazarus Murendo ruled that the paternity of the child should be established first before the court can grant a maintenance order. He said that Mahara and Mukatshelwa need to undergo DNA tests to establish if the baby is Mukatshelwa’s as Musundire is claiming
Real Madrid star Karim Benzema has hailed Zimbabwean star Tino Kadewere and urged him to continue pursuing his dreams.
The Frenchman was speaking ahead of Olympique Lyon’s derby against city rivals St-Etienne, which then ended 5-0 in favor of Les Gones, with Kadewere scoring twice.
When the two sides met in the corresponding fixture last year, it was Kadewere’s double which also decided the derby in a 2-1 triumph for Rudi Garcia’s charges.
Posting on microblogging site Twitter before the game, Benzema, who is a Lyon product, urged Tino to continue working hard.
“Lyonnais tonight you can make a whole city proud and happy, we are all behind you! And Tino keep making your dreams come true!.”
“Lyonnais ce soir vous pouvez rendre fiers et heureux toute une ville on est tous derrière vous ! Et Tino continues de réaliser tes rêves.”
By A Correspondent- United States-based Zimbabwean preacher, Passion Java is reportedly embroiled in a dispute with his South Africa-based brother, Simba over their late mother’s estate.
Zim Morning Post reports that the dispute is over the late Senator Christine Rambnepasi-Java‘s house which Passion is allegedly saying should be given to their divorced sister.
In an audio which he posted on Facebook this week, Simba also claimed that Passion was pushing him out of the beneficiaries list. He said:
Passion wants the house and the cars to be given to our sister who ditched her husband and is a drunkard.
I will not back down because my mother never said that when she was alive.
I will be going to the High Court to challenge this and I have since engaged my lawyers Nyambirai, Hamukwadi and Samukange.
Passion will be served with papers wherever he is be it Dubai or America.
A family friend told Zim Morning Post that the long-standing quarrel between the two siblings started when Simba’s fortunes were waning. Said the source:
Simba used to live a good life where he commanded a managerial position with a leading telecommunications company.
He would drive latest vehicles and even lended the cars to Passion.
When things went south, he felt Passion was obliged to take care of him and that is their main beef.
Simba alleges that his mother Senator Christine Java left behind at least a car, farm and two houses.
Interestingly, one of the houses in Houghton Park was bought by Passion as a gift to his mother who was an MDC senator.
Christine succumbed to cancer this month and her estate is allegedly being registered with the Master of High Court and no executor has been appointed yet
By A Correspondent| Human rights lawyers on Saturday 23 January 2021 accompanied a security guard, who filed a report at Milton Park Police Station on behalf of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) member and Harare East legislator Tendai Biti after he received some deaths threats and was subjected to abuse, harassment and intimidation.
The security guard was accompanied to Milton Park Police Station by Gift Mtisi and Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of ZLHR, where he filed the report which was recorded under RRB Number 4451978 about threats of arson and assault.
The security guard took action after some unidentified people affixed some card board boxes containing threatening and abusive messages at Biti Law Chambers in Milton Park suburb in Harare.
Some of the messages read; “You are a murderer Tendai Biti”, “Office of a rightful stupid Biti”, “After inviting sanctions you now celebrate deaths”.
Biti received some death threats on his mobile phone number following a heated telephone conversation with a person who identified himself as Gakanje, who quizzed the human rights lawyer and opposition MDC-Alliance Vice President for allegedly criticising government on Twitter on its failure to curb the spread of coronavirus.
Gakanje also sent some messages to Biti threatening to visit his office and residence to assault the human rights lawyer.
After filing the report, three Zimbabwe Republic Police members from Milton Park Police Station visited Biti Law Chambers in Milton Park suburb in Harare, where they collected some placards which were stuck at the law firm’s gate and also recorded some messages which were sent to Biti by Gakanje.
As the world fights against the Covid 19 pandemic, a lot of theories have emerged concerning the probable solutions to this problematic health issue.
Having been first detected in the Wuhan province of China, the virus spread to all countries and continents including Africa and Zimbabwe in particular. However, the news of Covid-19 vaccine hitting the market has caused more confusion amongst citizens more than the pandemic itself and dangers associated with it.
It must be noted that there are no scientifically proven side effects of the Covid vaccine yet but source of conspiracy is unavailability of information concerning chemical trial results of the same. Labour Economists and Afrikan Democrats (LEAD) is more concerned with the conspiracies associated with this vaccine.
To commence with, the theory of control is not clear even the extent of efficiency is not being publicised. It is important that as a nation we begin to question and publicly answer when and where chemical trials of the said vaccine was administered and by who.
This will have a super natural effect of helping us detect as a people the possibilities of any biological warfare. This comes from an understanding that our current statistics show that we are mainly suffering from recklessness.
Our government failed to do a reasonable and responsible check on probable effects of allowing mass movement during the Christmas period which went unguarded even in the wake of an unprecedented rise in South Africa’s statistics.
However, having noted that it’s still not too late to act responsibly without putting many of our citizens’ lives on the firing line. Zimbabwe needs responsible LEADers and politicians now who are ready to move out of denial mode and appreciate reality.
Africa loses much of it’s population to malaria not what this Covid is doing but the neo-colonial agenda has funded our media to concentrate on Covid 19 making people ignore duseases like HIV, Diabetes, Bp, Malaria, cancer, etc just to mention a few. In light of this the billion dollar question is why?
Considering the inscription of label use which suggests that the vaccine is meant for Africa only it can be deduced that patent rights are at play. What are local institutions like CAPS and Natpharm doing? It’s time we make our own medicines with the assistance of experts in the health sector.
True independence lies in appreciating our local produce and not vice versa. Moreover, Covid-19 tests at Institutions like Wilkins wherein someone who went for tests on the 110121 followed up on 150121 and was advised to wait in expectancy of results at home the question is how then can we successfully manage this pandemic if we cannot account for infections in real time.
By the time an individual knows his/her status the disease would have been transmitted to several contacts because the affected person is not certain of his/her status to take appropriate action.
Conclusively, we would like to urge authorities to start considering the Madagascar and Tanzanian herbs for trials and or tests as they are proving to be a bit reliable and secure considering bilateral relations between African nations. _

What Nicky Mangwana said today it’s not shocking, it is exactly the character of ZANU pf. Selfish, cruel and disrespectful.
They fight with the Church, they fight with nurses, they fight with vendors, they fight with teachers and all government workers, they fight with business, they fight with Europe, South Africa, USA, UK, ANC; they have been fighting doctors to the extent of abducting Dr Peter Magombeyi. Zanu pf is at war with everyone. They fear their own shadows. Because they know very well that they stole the People’s vote, no social contract with the citizens for them to govern this country.
ZANU pf is so confused and desperate. I think Zimbabweans saw it on their own yesterday on National television on the so called State of the Nation Address. There was nothing, citizens are on their own. The government has renaged on its parental responsibility of providing for the citizens. It is at war with citizens. After being supper spreaders of Corona virus at their rallies, Parties, Cabinet meetings and EOC with the rebels they now want to arrest medical Doctors.
Hands off the people’s doctors. The regime failed to pay them a living wage, no adequate PPEs and working conditions issues not addressed. Let’s fight poverty and corona virus not doctors. We salute our Doctors & Nurses. These are brave soldiers who fight day and night to save lives. They are our heroes and heroines of our time. We reiterate that focused leadership, strategy, inclusivity and being positive will see us through. Covid 19 needs a national fight, and raising our heads to God our Savior.

FIVE 14-year-old Zimunya teenagers who allegedly murdered a fellow learner over a girlfriend are up for murder.
The teenagers who have since been released under the custody of their parents appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Ms Nyasha Kuture recently and were not asked to plead.
They were remanded to January 25 on condition that they report to their nearest police station every Friday and not to interfere with State witnesses. They were also ordered to continue residing at their given addresses.
The court heard that sometime in November 2020, the late Rufaro Makono who was a Form Two learner at Gwese Secondary School, Zimunya escorted a form one female pupil from the same school to her home.
It was alleged that Rufaro was proposing love to the girl. They parted ways at Nyagumbe River in Mutukwa Village.
Prosecuting, Mr Chris Munyuku, said: “On his way back home, the deceased, however, met a group of teenagers who confronted and accused him of dating the female learner. Sensing danger, Makono started running and the five gave chase.”
One of the teenagers is alleged to have picked a stone and threw it on Rufaro. He fell down and the teenagers took turns to assault him. Rufaro suffered a swollen head and bloody eyes.
When Rufaro got home, he did not tell his parents about the assault even when his condition deteriorated.
On November 29, Makono met a classmate, Munashe Mujaji and confided in him about the assault.
Rufaro later died at Victoria Chitepo Provincial Hospital on December 4 and was buried three days later.
After the burial, information filtered that Rufaro had died as a result of the head injuries he sustained from the assault, prompting the police to exhume his body on December 11.
A post mortem conducted at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare revealed Rufaro’s cause of death as severe head trauma.-Manica Post

By A Corrongstress Vimbai Zimuto sat down with the Daily News and took the time to clarify a few things including her supposed obsession with nudity. Zimuto, whose nude photos went viral in 2019, said she is not obsessed with nudity because she came into the world nude and there was nothing wrong with that.
Zimuto addressing her nudity obsession said her nude pictures and videos are just part of her work and they are divorced from Vimbai Zimuto as a person:
I have to correct you on the notion that I am obsessed with nudity. I am not obsessed with nudity. Nudity is how I came to earth so how can I be obsessed with something so natural. There is nothing weird about that. People need to understand that I don’t spend my day naked; I don’t walk around naked.
I don’t do that. . . it’s just part of my work. Sometimes I go to fine art classes where they just want me to sit there and draw my body because they love my body. It’s part of art. It has nothing to do with my morality. It has nothing to do with who I am as a girlfriend, wife or mother.
It’s part of my work. I don’t spend my day naked. It’s amazing that people actually think that way. Even when you see me on Instagram I will be telling stories through nude art. . . when you see me seated trying to tell a story through nude art; it’s about the story.
It has nothing to do with Vimbai Zimuto as a person, Vimbai Zimuto as a mother or Vimbai Zimuto in the street. If we understand that then we will get somewhere with our art.
Zimuto also responded to the question if she did controversial songs like kupakichwa, hapana kwaunoenda just to increase her ratings and said:
I wouldn’t say that because at that stage I was still discovering myself, who I am and what makes me tick.
When you have worked with legends such as the late Oliver Mtukudzi and Tanga weKwaSando it makes it difficult for you to find yourself because of the all-round ability you have. I can sing jazz, opera and choral music. In fact, I am a former member of Chitungwiza Harmony Singers.
I can sing and dance traditional music be it shangara, chokoto, mhande… I can do all that. So for the past three years when I began my solo career I went haphazard and tried my hand at everything I could. Then I found my passion; my passion is love and sensual music. I will go for it and this year it will be fireworks

By A Correspondent- One of the country’s oldest boys high schools, St George’s College this year celebrates its 125th anniversary in the provision of faith-based education that has seen the institution evolve to also enrol girls for the first time since its establishment, an official has said.
The school was opened on January 13, 1896 in Bulawayo by a French Jesuit priest, Marc Barthelemy with an initial intake of six boys.
As it grew over time, the college relocated to the capital city Salisbury, now Harare, in 1927 to the place it is currently located.
The school, previous white only, began enrolling black students in the 1960 despite strong opposition from the colonial government as it sought to be all-inclusive.
Over time it has produced leaders currently dominating in various spheres both locally and internationally.
Current headmaster, John Farrelly said the decision to enrol girls, only at Advanced Level, was taken by the school Board of Governor’s three years ago and was in line with Jesuit Apostolic Preferences also “include the excluded.”
“Female students had been excluded from a Jesuit Education at St George’s College since 1896,” he said.
In line with the new development, St George’s enrolled the first group of 29 female lower six students in 2020.
Farelly insisted the decision to enrol girls was not a “break from history”.
“History is a continuum and we are merely adapting to change and taking history forward,” he said.
And commenting on the suitability of the learning environment dominated by boys for female learners, Farelly said: “Our guiding principle was always that the College had robust structures in place to allow for the safeguarding of female students within the school. This was carefully planned for and at all times the new female students have been consulted as to the suitability of these structures for them.”
He said the advent of the Covid-19 pandemic, which had seen schools being closed for the better part of last year had not allowed the institution “to evaluate the full aspect of all student life here at the College” for the girl students.
“The recently released examination results showing a 98 pass rate at AS level shows that all students, including the girls, performed exceptionally well despite the adversity that they faced last year due to the pandemic,” he said.
He said the college would in future consider enrollment of girls for Ordinary Level.
The college’s Rector, Father Joe Arimoso said various events had been lined up for the institution’s 125th anniversary which is running under the theme, “Celebrating faith, family and action.”
The events would, however, be adjusted with current Covid-19 regulations, he said.
St Georges, he said, was established “purely out of the love for education.”-newziana
By A Correspondent- Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affair, Ziyambi Ziyambi is currently battling for his life in the ICU of a Harare hospital amid a Covid-19 explosion that has paralysed President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Cabinet.
This comes as the country is still to come to terms with the demise of three Cabinet ministers – two deaths being recorded inside a week.
Transport minister Joel Biggie Matiza died aged 61, on January 22, two days after Foreign Affairs Minister Sibusiso Moyo, 61, succumbed to Covid-19 early on Wednesday.
Covid-19, this month, also claimed the lives of Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Ellen Gwaradzimba and military commander, Brigadier-General Collin Moyo (Retired), who were buried at the national shrine.
Former Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement Minister Perrance Shiri died last year due Covid-19 related complications.
Inside sources told Zim Morning Post that Ziyambi had been hospitalised after catching the respiratory infection.
“These ministers held private parties over the festive season with family and friends – some were carrying the South African variant. Having been infected, they went on to interact with colleagues oblivious of the impending implosion,” a government insider who requested anonymity said.
“We are at the peak of 28-day window period since Christmas. Naturally, the people whom they came into contact with including ministers are not only shocked but are living in fear.”
As at 22 January 2021, Zimbabwe had 30 523 confirmed cases, including 21 080 recoveries and 962 deaths.
Zimbabwe’s casualties in Cabinet, which have not only cost precious life but have derailed set deliverable in ministries, leave President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s with a excruciating headache of how to move forward.
The departed cabinet ministers in question are Perrance Shiri (Agriculture), Sibusiso Moyo (Foreign Affairs) and Joel Biggie Matiza (Transport), were some of Mnangagwa’s work horses, in a cabinet that has a significant number of ministers who have proved to be deadwood.
“This is a major blow for Mnangagwa, he lost three of his best men who were sharp and hardworking. Replacing them will be hard for him from the current crop of House of Assembly members at his disposal. The options become even more limited if he considers the political matrix of which MPs are for him and which are against him,” said a South African based political science scholar who preferred anonymity.
When Shiri traded his military cap for political gloves upon his appointment as Agriculture minister, he proved that he was a hands on politician who was exemplary even at his own farm in Marondera.
His mission was, however, cut short by the coronavirus and his replacement Anxious Masuka is still making an attempt to ensure smooth continuity to fulfil his mandate.
He was seized with massive corruption cases surrounding distribution of Command Agriculture inputs.
“Unlike Shiri, his replacement lacks the hands on approach and has failed to set up control mechanisms to plug abuse of inputs. On-PFumvudza there has been inadequate education and Information dissemination extended to farmers. He is lucky that God blessed us with heavy rains and a bumper harvest will save his face,” said a political analyst who refused to be named.
In SB Moyo, Mnangagwa will face a Herculean task in finding a perfect replacement.
The late diplomat and soldier’s mandate was to engage and re-engage with existing and previously hostile nations.
He embarked on a whirlwind tour across the globe selling brand Zimbabwe.
As a result, he was bestowed with another responsibility, that of International Trade which he executed with great finesse.
“Look here, when Mnangagwa added the International Trade responsibility to Moyo’s portfolio, he knew very well his capabilities with these guys having worked together at the business and enterprise Unit of the ruling party. SB Moyo was the managing director of one of the party linked company that invested in DRC. So knew the world markets and the bible of International trade,” added the analyst.
In the previous dispensation, the portfolio was carried by self exiled Walter Mzembi, who besides his factional affiliation, by and large set a base that the late Moyo adapted and well executed.
His replacement will cause a headache for Mnangagwa and will force him to probably appoint one of the young turks in his next cabinet reshuffle with Kazembe Kazembe touted as the favourite.
The late Matiza was an engineer by profession and technocrat who used his knowledge to champion developmental issues in his ministry and Mashonaland East province that he chaired in the ruling party structures.
Recently, just before the National lockdown, he embarked on a tour where he visited new road construction sites to check on progress (or lack thereof).
He inherited a ministry that was in a mess following a corruption ridden tenure by Nicholas Goche who allegedly participated in bringing the National airliner Air Zimbabwe to its knees.
Matiza made a frantic effort to sanitise the mess and his effort saw Air Zimbabwe taking delivery of two planes bought in Malaysia.
The coronavirus pandemic also claimed the life of Manicaland Provincial minister Ellen Gwaradzimba last week.
This week, a dark cloud hung over the nation as Former Education minister Aeneous Chigwedere also died from Covid 19 related complications and was shockingly declared a liberation war hero.
On Friday evening, former Zimbabwe Prisons Services boss Paradzai Zimondi succumbed to the same pandemic after testing positive a fortnight ago along with Colonel Matemachani who is reported to be on recovery path.
Another prominent businessman and politican Christopher Chigumba also died on the same day.
Zanu-PF national spokesperson Simon Khaya Moyo said government was doing everything in its capacity to contain the pandemic and urged citizens to adhere to World Health Organisation and Ministry of Health and Childcare guidelines and protocols.-ZimMorningPost

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined the Kenyan FA US$ 20 000 for breaching COVID-19 rules in an African Cup of Nations qualifier against Comoros in November last year.
The national team’s management refused to take the PCR tests ahead of the game, and they delayed the process for three hours. The test results arrived just a few minutes before kick-off, during warm-up and four players tested positive.
But two Kenyan football officials – Barry Otieno (FA general secretary) and Ronny Oyando (team manager) – disputed the results and tore them apart.
In CAF’s judgement, both Otieno and Oyando were each slapped with a six-month ban from all football activities for their actions.-Soccer 24 Zimbabwe
Marvelous Nakamba featured for Aston Villa for the first time in over a month in the Birmingham side’s 2-0 win over Newcastle and played a blinder.
The 27-year old, who has been reduced to a peripheral role this season, had last featured for the claret and blue on the 17th of December, when he was introduced with seconds remaining in the Burnley game.
Villa coach Dean Smith today opted for a twin defensive midfield formula, with Nakamba partnering Douglas Luiz in the middle of the park. The Zimbabwean midfielder played the game of his life!
He completed 35 out of 35 successful passes in the first half at a 100 percent rate and earned praise from the club’s fans on social media.
Ultimately, the soft-spoken midfielder made 56 accurate passes (98%).
Smith’s men saw off their opponents through first half goals from Ollie Watkins and Betrand Traore.- Soccer 24 Zimbabwe
