“No Daily Lessons For Non-Exam Classes”

NON-EXAMINATION classes will not attend school daily but instead will alternate attendance days to allow for proper implementation of social distancing rules, as the last group of classes resume learning tomorrow.

Early Childhood Development classes going up to Grade Five, as wellas Forms Ones and Twos return to school tomorrow and will join the ongoing intense crash programme designed to ensure that pupils catch up on lost learning time.

Authorities have designed an ad-hoc learning programme entailing intensified one-on-one learning, provision of self-study guidelines and rigorous homework in order to accelerate catching up. The 2020 and 2021 examination classes, which returned to school in September and October respectively, are already undertaking the improvised learning regime.

Government is encouraging hot-sitting at schools that may have inadequate infrastructure and resources to properly implement Covid-19 prevention regulations. “Hot-sitting” is when the school day is split into morning and afternoon sessions for different classes to allow for sharing of classrooms and other resources at schools.

The development comes as education authorities have started compiling names of teachers who have not been reporting for duty since schools reopened, ostensibly to initiate disciplinary procedures.

Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education spokesperson Mr Taungana Ndoro told The Sunday Mail that only classes that will sit for this year’s public examinations should attend school every day.

“For all other levels, school authorities are encouraged to follow alternate schooling days with some learners coming on particular days of the week,” said Mr Ndoro.

“We envisage that some schools are likely to face challenges in implementing social distancing requirements because of inadequate infrastructure.

“Alternatively, schools may split the schooling day, with some classes coming in the morning and others in the afternoon, with groups alternating every fortnight.”-The Sunday Mail

Government Official Sells Residential Stand For $ 65

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

A FORMER top official in the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has been arrested on allegations of criminal abuse of office after facilitating the sale of a Borrowdale residential stand in Harare to a minor for just US$65.

The ex-chief estates officer in the Local Government Ministry — Rejoice Pazvakavambwa (46) of 5 Tungsgate Road, Mt Pleasant, Harare — was hauled before the Harare magistrates court facing charges of contravening Section 174 (1) (a) of the Criminal Law Codification and Reform Act Chapter 9: 23 or criminal abuse of office by a public officer. She was denied bail and placed in remand prison until November 20, 2020.

Allegations against Pazvakavambwa are that in 2008, she connived with one Taruvinga Hamura to allocate stand number 300 Carrick Craegh, in Borrowdale, Harare to the minor who was aged eight at the time.

The residential stand measures over one hectare in size.

In his affidavit, investigating officer Inspector Gilbert Manyore stated that the minor who is Hamura’s daughter had no contractual right to possess land title. Court documents say, “Taruvinga Hamura paid US$65 to the State for the said property after valuation instead of the actual value of the stand which is US$24 384 according to a memorandum from the valuation and estates management development referenced UL/162/12 dated 5/03/09.”

Independent realtors told The Sunday Mail yesterday that at prevailing market prices, 1,2 hectares of land in Carrick Craegh can fetch over US$2 million.

The Borrowdale land belongs to the State and was developed by Arosume Property Developers in partnership with Sally Mugabe Housing Cooperative in terms of a tripartite agreement with the Ministry of Local Government dated 7 June 2007.

“The accused (Pazvakavambwa) facilitated the issuance of title deeds for the said property to Taruvinga Hamura after having given the same power of attorney despite the fact that he had no letter of declaration from the land developer Arosume Property Development.-The Sunday Mail

Young Warriors Intensify Preparations For COSAFA Tournament

DESPITE having to work on short notice and with players literally hand-picked, Young Warriors coach Tafadzwa Mashiri is working round the clock to make the most of the situation he finds himself in.

The Young Warriors are preparing for the Cosafa Men’s Under-17 Championships at Nelson Mandela Bay, South Africa from November 19-30.

Cosafa and the Confederation of African Football are using the championships as the zonal qualifiers for the 2021 Africa Under-17 Cup of Nations scheduled for Morocco in July.

Two finalists from the regional tournament will book a place at the continental youth tournament.

Despite most of the players that trooped into camp ahead of the tournament having been inactive for a year, Mashiri is confident of springing a surprise at the championships.

He said the significance of the tourney could not be overemphasised.

“We cannot deny the fact that inactivity has a negative impact on players, but looking at a bigger picture these championships are very important considering what is at stake,” said Mashiri.

Zimbabwe together with the other eight teams who include Angola, Botswana, Comoros Islands, Eswatini, Malawi, last year’s runners-up Mozambique, South Africa and defending champions Zambia, have confirmed their participation.

The Young Warriors are grouped together with Angola, Eswatini and the hosts South Africa and although he is aware of the uphill task he faces, Mashiri is hoping his squad can emulate past Under-17 sides.

Angola were Southern Africa’s representatives in the 2019 Caf Under-17 Cup of Nations after winning the Cosafa competition that year, the first time the zonal qualifiers were introduced.

“We will be facing Eswatini, South Africa and Angola, this is not an easy group but we have to be at our best.

“We have done so well in the past at the same tournament and we hope to carry on with that same form and attitude at the tournament,” said Mashiri.

It will be all action too for the Under-20 side whose championships will get underway early next month.

The CosafaMen’s Under-20 Championships is scheduled for December 3-13, three days after the conclusion of the Under-17 championships.-The Sunday News

Zaka Man Killed Over Mubobobo

A man from Zaka District in Masvingo Province was last week beaten to death by his relatives on suspicions that he possessed mubobobo, a magical way of having sexual intercourse with women without their consent.

Masvingo assistant provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed the murder of 73-year-old Patrick Mhou of Mhou Village, Chief Nhema on Tuesday last week.

He died after being attacked by his brothers from the same village, Prosper Mhou (34), Evans Mhou, (28), Solomon Mhou, (38), Aaron Mhou, (38), and Solomon Fushai, (62), of Village Chipinda in the same area who was accompanied by his wife, Emily Chekenyere (44).

“Patrick Mhou had a long outstanding dispute with his brothers who accused him of using mubobobo to have supernatural sex with women,” Asst Insp Dhewa said.

“On 27 October around 9PM, the five brothers and Chekenyere went to Patrick’s homestead where they woke him up and started beating him all over the body until he fell unconscious.

They took him back into his bedroom hut and left him there.

The following day at around 6am, Menace Denhere, (38), of Matiza Village under Chief Nhema passed through Patrick’s house wanting to greet him and saw his bedroom door half open. He opened the door and saw Patrick sleeping with no sign of life.”

Police said Denhere told Fushai who later went and handed himself to the police in Zaka.

Patrick had bruises on the thighs, blisters on the feet, buttocks and backbone, deep cuts on the right eye and bruises on the forehead. He had swollen testicles and bruises above the ribs.

His body was taken to Ndanga District Hospital for a post-mortem and investigations are in progress.

In a separate incident a 19-year-old woman committed suicide after she was turned away by her mother for coming back home in the evening from her boyfriend’s house.

Neighbours in Masvingo said on Saturday last week, Bertha Muchatsikwa, (19), of 2496 Save Street, ZBS, Masvingo, was in the company of her boyfriend, Stanford Madzivo, (20), who resides in the Majange area when she arrived home towards dusk.

When they arrived at Muchatsikwa’s place, the mother denied her entry and advised her to go back to where she had been since she had come home late. The two lovebirds are said to have waited outside the house for some time thinking that the mother would relent and open for Muchatsikwa but she did not.

The two later on went to Madzivo’s place where they engaged his relatives to intercede on behalf of the two lovers but to no avail resulting in Muchatsikwa spending the night at Madzivo’s place.

At around 6pm the following day, Madzivo escorted Muchatsikwa back to her house and left her there.

The mother again chased Muchatsikwa away and she went back to her boyfriend’s place. When she arrived at the house she found that her boyfriend was not around and she hanged herself on a tree in the yard using a hosepipe.-The Sunday News

Driver Of Honda Fit Crashed Into By Ginimbi

On Lucky Chikwanda the owner of the Honda fit that collided with Ginimbi’s car.

I send my uttermost condolences to the Ginimbi family, friends and Zimbabweans for the sad loss of this patriot. Other deceased Maona, Karim and Elisha, the families and friends.

Around 10am I was shocked to see a message in a family WhatsApp group that that my uncle, Lucky Chikwanda was the one driving the Honda fit which collided with Ginimbi. This afternoon l visited my uncle Lucky Chikwanda soon after being discharged from Parirenyatwa Group of Hospital.

He is the brother to my Late mother. Several checks were done at the Hospital but he still complains of some pain on both right arm and leg.

https://youtu.be/3wGyaRtWswE

Acording to Uncle Lucky, Ginimbi was overspeeding on a steep curve and he tried to at once overtake three vehicles in front of him. When he was about to overtake the third vehicle the blue Honda fit which was being driven by Uncle Lucky which was coming from the opposite direction reduced speed and stopped in the middle of the road. It was during that time Ginimbi car collided with the Honda fit and immediately off road where it hit a trea before it caught fire.

In the Honda fit Khule lucky was in the campany of his male friend.

Please note that my uncle was not sent by anyone to cause the accident and is not a member of any political party. There are accusations being peddled on social media that the tragic death of Ginimbi and three others was deliberately caused by the driver of the Honda fit who was on agenda to cause death or harm the deceased.

My uncle is a Christian family man and has no such agenda to cause harm to anyone on this Mother Earth. Though he survived, he is actually a victim of overspeeding on a steep curve.

May the souls of the deceased rest in internal peace.

Victor Kamhuka Joins Warriors Camp

Myanmar-based defender Victor Kamhuka is set to join the Warriors camp as a possible replacement for Tendai Jirira.

The former Dynamos defender, who was called for the Malawi friendly but couldn’t make it, is currently in the country after the season in Myanmar, where he turns out for Ayeyawady United, ended.

Kamhuka will join camp today as a possible replacement for United States-based defender Tendai Jiriira, who together with goalkeeper Tatenda Mkuruva, have been ruled out of this week’s trip to Algiers, where Zdravko Logarušić’s charges take on the Desert Foxes on Thursday.

A source at ZIFA told Soccer24 that the big defender will join camp and be assessed by Logarusic and his technical team before a decision on his inclusion is made.

“He will join camp this morning. The coach wants to have a look at him before a decision can be made but all indications point to him being Jirira’s replacement,” said the source.-Soccer 24

Knox Mtizwa Out Of AFCON Qualifiers Against Algeria

Knox Mutizwa has explained what he thinks led to his exclusion in the Warriors squad for the Afcon Qualifiers against Algeria this week.

The Golden Arrows striker was a regular in the national selection before the latest snub. He also had a great 2019/20 season in which he finished with thirteen goals, three behind the golden boot winner.

Speaking to the Standard, Mutizwa said inactivity could be the reason he was not called.

He explained: “I think my exclusion has to do with the fact that I have not been playing.

“During the transfer window, I was not active. There was a deal that was being worked out, but, unfortunately, time was not on my side. The deal is not done yet. There are offers, but I cannot disclose anything for now.”

Meanwhile, the Warriors will first travel to Algiers for the first encounter on Thursday before hosting the Desert Foxes at the National Sports Stadium four days later.-Soccer 24

Lightning Indoor Safety Tips

Outdoor Safety Tips

The best defense is to avoid lightning. Here are some outdoor safety tips that can help you avoid being struck:

Do

Be aware
Check the weather forecast before participating in outdoor activities. If the forecast calls for thunderstorms, postpone your trip or activity, or make sure adequate safe shelter is readily available.Go indoors
Remember the phrase, “When thunder roars, go indoors.” Find a safe, enclosed shelter when you hear thunder.

Safe shelters include homes, offices, shopping centers, and hard-top vehicles with the windows rolled up.Seek shelter immediately even if caught out in the open
If you are caught in an open area, act quickly to find adequate shelter. The most important action is to remove yourself from danger. Crouching or getting low to the ground can reduce your chances of being struck, but does not remove you from danger.

If you are caught outside with no safe shelter nearby, the following actions may reduce your risk:

Immediately get off elevated areas such as hills, mountain ridges, or peaks.

Never lie flat on the ground. Crouch down in a ball-like position with your head tucked and hands over your ears so that you are down low with minimal contact with the ground.Never shelter under an isolated tree.Never use a cliff or rocky overhang for shelter.Immediately get out of and away from ponds, lakes, and other bodies of water.Stay away from objects that conduct electricity (barbed wire fences, power lines, windmills, etc.).Separate
If you are in a group during a thunderstorm, separate from each other. This will reduce the number of injuries if lightning strikes the ground.

Don’t

Don’t stay in open vehicles, structures, and spaces
During a thunderstorm, avoid open vehicles such as convertibles, motorcycles, and golf carts.

Be sure to avoid open structures such as porches, gazebos, baseball dugouts, and sports arenas. And stay away from open spaces such as golf courses, parks, playgrounds, ponds, lakes, swimming pools, and beaches.Don’t stay near tall structures
Do NOT lie on concrete floors during a thunderstorm. Also, avoid leaning on concrete walls. Lightning can travel through any metal wires or bars in concrete walls or flooring.

Indoor Safety Tips

Even though your home is a safe shelter during a lightning storm, you may still be at risk. About one-third of lightning-strike injuries occur indoors. Here are some tips to keep safe and reduce your risk of being struck by lightning while indoors.

Avoid water
Do NOT bathe, shower, wash dishes, or have any other contact with water during a thunderstorm because lightning can travel through a building’s plumbing.Avoid electronic equipment
Do NOT use your computers, laptops, game systems, washers, dryers, stoves, or anything connected to an electrical outlet.

Lightning can travel through electrical systems, radio and television reception systems, and any metal wires or bars in concrete walls or flooring. Equip your home with whole-house surge protectors to protect your appliances.Avoid corded phones
Corded phones are NOT safe to use during a thunderstorm.

Do NOT use them. However, it is safe to use cordless or cellular phones during a storm.

Avoid windows, doors, porches, and concrete
Do NOT lie on concrete floors during a thunderstorm. Also, avoid leaning on concrete walls. Lightning can travel through any metal wires or bars in concrete walls or flooring.

Police Hunt For Murderer

POLICE in Bulawayo have arrested three men in connection with the murder of a Cowdray Park man who was stabbed to death in August.

Bhekimpilo Tshuma, Vumindaba Mkhwananzi and Eric Mpofu have been arrested while Ntokozo Moyo (25) is still on the run.

The four allegedly accosted Gugulethu Ngwenya (17) and accused him of threatening their 13-year-old friend (name withheld) before they stabbed him once on the chest and fled with his cellphone and money.

Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele appealed to members of the public who may have information about the whereabouts of the fugitive suspect to report to the police.

Chiefs, Zanu Pf Bigwig Cross Swords

TSHOLOTSHO chiefs have crossed swords with an aspiring Zanu-PF district co-ordinating committee (DCC) chairperson, Owen Sibanda, who faces charges of grabbing vast tracts of land in their areas of jurisdiction.

In recent weeks, Sibanda was engaged in a land dispute with villagers under Chief Magama following claims that he had been allocated about 30 hectares of land under controversial circumstances in 2018.

The land dispute has spilled into the courts as villagers tried to evict Sibanda from their communal lands under Chief Magama without success.

Over 120 villagers were also arrested in 2018 for public violence and malicious damage to property belonging to Sibanda as they sought his violent removal.

In the latest incident, Sibanda faces charges of seizing over 40 hectares of land in the Natha area, ward 16 under Chief Gampu, raising the ire of villagers and traditional leaders in the district.

Sources say the area has gold deposits.

It is understood traditional leaders summoned Sibanda on Wednesday over the issue, but the businessman was in no show.

Another meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, Chief Gampu told Sunday Southern Eye.

“We want to understand the motive behind these land grabs; and also to find out who is sponsoring him,” Gampu said.

“We were supposed to meet him, but the meeting did not take place.

“We are supposed to have another meeting on Monday with him and other traditional leaders about the land issues.

“Who pegged that land without consulting us?

We were never consulted, and even if we were consulted, there is no way we could have given him that much communal land that belongs to the people.”

Gampu also confirmed that the chiefs have sought audience with the Presidents’ office over the land dispute.

When contacted for comment by Sunday Southern Eye, Sibanda claimed his political opponents want to tarnish his reputation.

“It’s politics,” he said. “They want to soil my political image.”

On September 24, some aspiring Zanu-PF Tsholotsho DCC candidates wrote to the provincial elections directorate seeking the disqualification of Sibanda protesting that he had already started campaigning before the national commissariat had announced when candidates should start canvassing for votes.

Tsholotsho CEO Nkululeko Sibanda on Friday said council was concerned about land grabs in the district involving Sibanda.

“I have been informed, but not officially from Chief Gampu,” he said.

“I am still waiting for the official report.

“However, it’s an issue of great concern to the council.

“We will make a follow-up and take it from there.”

The land in question under Chief Magama that Sibanda got under controversial circumstances in 2018 cost former Tsholotsho CEO Themba Moyo his job.

Moyo resigned in February 2019 while he was on suspension over 33 counts of misconduct and misappropriation of funds.-standard

FACT CHECK: Are These Bullet Holes On Ginimbi’s Car?

Ginimbi’s charred Rolls Royce

By Dorrothy Moyo| Allegations were on Sunday raised to suggest that the late businessman Genius Kadungure’s Rolls Royce burnt car, sustained bullet holes, a development which is meant to imply that the socialite who passed away following an accident in Borrowdale-Domboshawa road together with three other colleagues on Sunday morning, was murdered.

There were 4 holes seen at doorside just as the flames continued their blaze. Some newsreaders have that these are bullet holes. But sources at the accident give their own accounts alleging that Ginimbi was simply speeding.

The following is the discussion viewed on an amarteur video recording as allegations are narrated: The car was flying, the motor was flying, repeats one source at the spot.

Where was he coming from?, asks an onlooker.

“Ginimbi was coming from that direction and wanted to hear oncoming traffic, he overtook that car, but the boys also appear drunk,” replies a man in his 30s at the scene, dressed in a red t shirt.

Another adds saying, “they are truly drunk these!- vakadhakwa ava!”

Meanwhile, several sources narrate that there were vigorous physical attempts to open the vehicle using metal tools so to save the other accident victims after Ginimbi had managed to escape. A side video recorded by the state media shows a police officer using an axe to open the doors.

The aforementioned narrations at the scene collaborated with the official police account.

The holes would have easily been as a result of such efforts before, during or after this video was shot.

If they are truly bullet holes, such evidence, if it exists is still to be seen.

Ginimbi’s Shoes And Wallet Missing At Accident Scene, Was He Robbed?| COMMENT

Ginimbi’s shoes and wallet missing at the accident scene. The news we getting is that the socialite might have been robbed just after the accident happened. Information we getting is that when the police arriveat the scene he had no shoes no wallet and watch too.

People who arrived at the scene first might have robbed him these things since he was a rich man. The man was known for his love for flashy and expensive things and his taste in fashion was well overboard. From the pictures we have, we can not really see if he had shoes on or not.

2008 GNU Stabilised Economy” – True But That Was Not Its Primary Purpose Much Less Justify New GNU

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

By Wilbert Mukori- “In 2009, the late former president Robert Mugabe was forced into forming a GNU with the MDC’s late and much loved founding father, Morgan Tsvangirai, after the hotly disputed 2008 polls,” reported Daily News.

“The short-lived GNU was credited with stabilising the country’s economy which had imploded in the run-up to those elections.”

This is the kind of foolish narrative that one has often heard from the corrupt and incompetent MDC leaders and their apologists. The primary purpose of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was not, I repeat, was NOT to “stabilise the country’s economy which had imploded in the run-up to the 2008 elections!”

The international community including SADC and AU refused to accept Zimbabwe’s 2008 elections as free and fair and to recognise Zanu PF’s claim as the legitimate government given the blatant cheating and wanton violence by Zanu PF. In the 2008 Global Political Agreement (GPA) signed by Robert Mugabe on behalf Zanu PF,  by Morgan Tsvangirai on behalf of MDC-T and Arthur Mutambara on behalf of the smaller MDC faction and by President Thabo Mbeki of SA on behalf of SADC as the guarantor; it was agreed the three Zimbabwean parties would form a Government of National Unity (GNU).

The primary purpose of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was to implement the raft of democratic reforms agreed in the GPA and to draft a new democratic constitution for Zimbabwe and to oversee the holding of fresh free, fair and credible elections. The primary purpose of the GNU was not make sure the next elections will NOT be a repeat of the the 2008 elections.

Indeed, the Daily News reporter agree with the above analysis because he/she agrees the 2008 elections were not free and fair.

“In those polls (2008), Tsvangirai beat Mugabe hands down. However, the results were withheld for six long weeks by stunned authorities – amid widespread allegations of ballot tampering and fraud, which were later revealed by former bigwigs of the ruling Zanu-PF,” continued the Daily News report.

“In the ensuing sham presidential run-off, which authorities claimed was needed to determine the winner, Zanu-PF apparatchiks engaged in an orgy of violence in which hundreds of Tsvangirai’s supporters were killed – forcing the former prime minister to withdraw from the discredited race altogether.

“Mugabe went on to stand in an embarrassing and widely condemned one-man race in which he declared himself the winner.”

Sadly for Zimbabwe, Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends failed to implement even one meaningful democratic reforms in five years of the GNU. Not even one reform!

Mugabe bribed the MDC leaders with the trappings of high office, ministerial limos, very generous salaries, a US$ 4 million mansion for Tsvangirai, etc., etc. With their snouts in the feeding trough, the MDC leaders forgot about the reforms. They did not want to up set Mugabe after all the generosity he had shown them.

“Mazivanhu eMDC adzidza kudya anyerere!” (MDC leaders are enjoying the gravy train good-life, they will not rock the boat!) Zanu PF cronies boasted when asked why MDC were not implementing the reforms.

SADC leaders tried to have the up coming July 2013 Zimbabwe elections postponed until the democratic reforms could be implemented – further proof the GNU was about implementing reforms and not “stabilising the economy”!

“In 2013 the Maputo Summit, in June 2013, before the elections, the Maputo Summit was all about having the elections postponed – the SADC summit. I went there,” Dr Ibbo Mandaza told Journalist Violet Gonda.

“I was there at the Summit and Mugabe pretended to agree to a postponement of the elections. If you recall, the postponement was based on the need to reform at least electoral laws.

“And after that Summit, Morgan Tsvangirai, Tendai Biti, Welshman Ncube, all of them were called to a separate meeting by the Heads of State of SADC in the absence of Mugabe, that same evening. And they were told; I was sitting there outside the room with Mac Maharaj; they were told ‘if you go into elections next month, you are going to lose; the elections are done’.”

Tsvangirai et all ignored the SADC leaders’ advice just as they had ignored the advice to implement the reforms through out the five years of the GNU.

Morgan Tsvangirai, his MDC friends and their apologists have peddled the false narrative that the primary purpose of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was to stabilise the Zimbabwe economy because they did not want to admit they had sold out and failed to implement even one democratic reform.

If MDC leaders had implemented the democratic reforms the 2013 and all elections since would have been free, fair and credible. If Zimbabwe did not have a competent government then at least it would have one that is democratically accountable to the people – a good start. Instead the country is still stuck with the corrupt and tyrannical de facto one-party dictatorship and the vote rigging Zanu PF regime.

The Daily News report’s primary purpose was to promote an new Zanu PF and MDC GNU; “many Zimbabweans have welcomed the push by the MDC to hold talks with Mnangagwa and Zanu-PF, with a view to forming a new GNU, in a bid to end the country’s myriad challenges.”

If the “myriad of challenges” the new GNU is to address are economic then the proposed Zanu PF and MDC GNU is will fit the bill. If the “myriad of challenges” include implementing democratic reforms designed to end the curse of rigged elections then another  Zanu PF and MDC GNU is a waste of time. If the two parties failed to implement even one meaningful reform; which, I repeat, was the primary purpose of the 2008 GNU; it is naive to believe they will do so now.

Zanu PF will never ever reform itself out of office. The party must step down to create the political space for the appointment of an interim administration that will implement the reforms and clear the path for the holding of the country’s first free, fair and credible elections.

Zanu PF has rigged elections ever since the 1980 elections. The party rigged the July 2018 elections, the regime is illegitimate and must step down. It is an outrage that Zanu PF has held this nation to ransom for 40 years now and it is insane to allow this to continue for one more day, especially now with the country’s very stability and survival on the line!

Jittery Mnangwagwa Entices Joe Biden

Paul Nyathi

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa yesterday led Zimbabweans in congratulating United States president-elect Joseph Robinette Biden (Joe Biden) who won the US presidential election, beating incumbent Donald Trump.

Mr Biden’s was confirmed the 46th president of the US yesterday evening, denying Trump a second term after a deeply divisive presidency defined by a once-in-lifetime pandemic, economic turmoil and social unrest.

Posting on microblogging site Twitter, President Mnangagwa wished Mr Biden success, undertaking to work to intensify co-operation between Zimbabwe and the US.

“On behalf of all Zimbabweans, a huge congratulations to President Elect @JoeBiden on his election victory,” said President Mnangagwa.

“Zimbabwe wishes you every success in leading the American people. I look forward to working with you to increase co-operation between our two nations.”

Relations between the US and Zimbabwe have been frosty over the past two decades after the US, the EU and the UK imposed sanctions on Zimbabwe over its bad human rights record and holding flawed elections.

Ginimbi; How Did He Make His Millions? His Life And Controversies.

Paul Nyathi

Genius “Ginimbi” Kadungure

Genius Kadungure, popularly known as Ginimbi the popular and controversial Zimbabwean socialite and businessman has died.

Kadungure was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of a gas company, Pioneer Gasses, which has interests in Botswana, South Africa and Zimbabwe.

In the last few years of his life, Kadungure was known for throwing wild parties and for allegedly dating several married woman, claims which he did not deny.

In 2014 he was arrested and tried on allegations of defrauding a ZANU PF member and a Kadoma-based miner of 1,581,890 South African Rands.

Kadungure was born in Domboshava in a family of four. He started his business career by hustling in search of a decent livelihood at the age of 17. Soon he became a middleman securing gas for domestic users. Since he had a friend who worked at the Angolan Airways offices, he quickly secured his first ever contract through his friend. After signing the contract, Kadungure followed up on many gas users and that is when his fortunes turned.

Within a year in the business, he was already driving and two years later he had a Mercedes-Benz S Class something considered by many locals to be a symbol of success.

He went on to form, Pioneer Gasses. The company supplies gas to the commercial, industrial, public and retail sectors. The company also offers delivery services by tanker to major facilities with their own storage and also sell gas bottles in a range of popular sizes.

He went on to buy Quick Gases in Botswana in which He is currently the only shareholder. With the success of his companies, he decided to add Rivonia Gases to his portfolio followed by another business initiative called City Centre Freight. All these companies fall under PIKO Trading Group, which he is a majority shareholder.

Due to the increased growth and success of his businesses, he became one of the richest young Entrepreneurs in Zimbabwe.

What set him apart from the rest perhaps was one of his greatest passions which was assisting children in need. This led him in being the co-founder of the Celebs4Change campaign which received a lot of support from A-list celebrities from all over Africa in giving their time and gifts to children in need.

Genius enjoyed travelling and spending time away on islands where he rejuvenated himself with beach views.

Wild Parties

Kadungure, who was also known as the king of bling, was well known for throwing lavish parties. In 2010, he threw one of the most expensive all-white birthday bashes in Harare, where an estimated US$17,000 was spent.

The party drew scores of people from Harare’s northern suburbs and guests were treated to high-end whiskey, bright coloured cocktails, champagne, as well as cigars at his Greystone Park home for three consecutive days.

Two years later, in 2012, Kadungure hosted another extravagant birthday party which was held in Botswana. The party is said to have gobbled an estimated P250,000 (exchange value of US $32,000 at that time).

In 2013, Kadungure also held a consecutive three-day long party at his rural home in Domboshava to celebrate a newly-built mansion he had put up in the area.

In 2015 he hosted another all-white party in Sandton South Africa which was stopped by police for violating Noise Regulations.

Controversies

Ginimbi is reported to have been involved with many married women. It was reported that many times he had been beaten up by husbands of women he had sexual relations with.

On these claims, Kadungure said it was normal. In January 2014, he made headlines when it was revealed that he had been looking after another man’s child for the past 11 years. This came to light after one Doreen Mutukwa demanded an upward review of maintenance fees to $1,500. This led to Genius demanding a paternity test and the outcome showed that Kadungure was not the father of the child.

Fraud Allegations

In May 2014 Kadungure was arrested on allegations of fraud. He allegedly swindled ZANU-PF MP for Chegutu West Dexter Nduna, who is the managing director of Badon Enterprises, and a Kadoma-based miner only identified as Gatawa of R1,581,890. Kadungure was reported to have created a fictitious company named Transco Civil Engineering purportedly based in South Africa and opened an ABSA bank account for the company. He then contacted the complainants over the phone and misrepresented himself as the chief buyer for Marange Resources looking for mining pumps at competitive prices, it was alleged.

In December 2011 Gatawa sent his brother Enock to South Africa to purchase the pumps. He was ordered to deposit R1,046,890 for the purchase of 10 flight pumps in the ABSA bank account. After the transfers, Enock was told by Transco Civil Engineering “officials” to go back to Zimbabwe and check for his parcel with DHL in three days time. He only received a parcel of cellphone chargers.

Chief Charumbira Led Chiefs Council Will Begin Gukurahundi Victims Reburials Early Next Year.

State Media

Chief Fortune Charumbira

CONSULTATIONS over the exhumation and reburial of victims of post-independence disturbances in the Matabeleland and Midlands provinces will commence early next year, with Government now crafting a roadmap to steer the process.

It was resolved at a recent meeting between President Mnangagwa and the Fortune Charumbira led Zimbabwe Council of Chiefs (ZCC) that traditional leaders should immediately roll out public consultations in the affected communities as the first step in the process.

President Mnangagwa has committed to facilitate restorative justice and take measures to provide healing to communities affected by the civil disturbances that rocked parts of the provinces, in an operation commonly referred to as Gukurahundi.

Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs secretary Mrs Virginia Mabhiza told The Sunday Mail that Government is prioritising resource mobilisation to kick-start the initiative. She said the meeting was a follow up to previous consultations held between Chiefs and the President.

“The President pointed out that the dialogue process was initiated by Matabeleland Civic Society under the banner of the Matabeleland Collective,” said Mrs Mabhiza.

“Moreover, it was in that process that the role of the Chiefs was highlighted in resolving the issue of Gukurahundi.

“The Council of Chiefs took a collective position to resolve the issue of Gukurahundi.

“The President informed the meeting that the issue of Gukurahundi was now an open issue which can now be discussed freely.

“The President emphasised the need to prioritise resource mobilisation so as to kick-start the initiative.

“Further, His Excellency pointed out that it was necessary for every region to be on board so as to address the Gukurahundi issue.”

She added: “A priority matrix of execution of the agreed issues will be made with timelines on implementation.”

ZCC deputy president Chief Lukas Mtshane-Khumalo said consultations will commence once resources are made available.

“The responsibility that has been given to traditional leaders, that is the chiefs, headman and village heads, is for them to source information about how they want the process to be undertaken from the people that were affected,” said Chief Mtshane-Khumalo.

“We cannot pre-empt what the people will say about how they want the exhumations and the reburials to be done because we are just mere facilitators of the process.

“If it were up to us we would have long decided. But it is those people who were directly affected who must tell us what they want done for their loved ones who lost their lives.”

He said following the consultations, a consolidated report from all three provinces will be produced in order to come up with a framework for undertaking the reburials.

“We do not have a timeline as yet because there is still a lot of preparatory work that has to be done first. You can expect that there will be a lot of travelling and that is where Government comes in to provide for the logistics.

“Mind you, we are heading towards the end of the financial year so there may not be funds available as yet. So maybe at the beginning of next year, we will kick off the consultations.”

In April last year, Government met with the Matabeleland Collective to kick-start the process of finding solutions to ensure healing among victims of Gukurahundi as well as developmental aspirations of the provinces.

Authorities are now working to fast-track the implementation of the resolutions including ceding ownership of the Matabeleland Zambezi Water Project to locals and issuing of civic documents to surviving children of victims of the disturbances.

FULL TEXT: Barrack Obama Congratulates Biden, Kamala Harris

I could not be prouder to congratulate our next President, Joe Biden, and our next First Lady, Jill Biden.

I also couldn’t be prouder to congratulate Kamala Harris and Doug Emhoff for Kamala’s groundbreaking election as our next Vice President.

In this election, under circumstances never experienced, Americans turned out in numbers never seen. And once every vote is counted, President-Elect Biden and Vice President-Elect Harris will have won a historic and decisive victory.

We’re fortunate that Joe’s got what it takes to be President and already carries himself that way. Because when he walks into the White House in January, he’ll face a series of extraordinary challenges no incoming President ever has – a raging pandemic, an unequal economy and justice system, a democracy at risk, and a climate in peril.

I know he’ll do the job with the best interests of every American at heart, whether or not he had their vote. So I encourage every American to give him a chance and lend him your support. The election results at every level show that the country remains deeply and bitterly divided. It will be up to not just Joe and Kamala, but each of us, to do our part – to reach out beyond our comfort zone, to listen to others, to lower the temperature and find some common ground from which to move forward, all of us remembering that we are one nation, under God.

Finally, I want to thank everyone who worked, organized, and volunteered for the Biden campaign, every American who got involved in their own way, and everybody who voted for the first time. Your efforts made a difference. Enjoy this moment. Then stay engaged. I know it can be exhausting. But for this democracy to endure, it requires our active citizenship and sustained focus on the issues – not just in an election season, but all the days in between.

Our democracy needs all of us more than ever. And Michelle and I look forward to supporting our next President and First Lady however we can.

Obert Gutu Apologizes Over Sanctions Calling Move

Former MDC-T Spokesperson Obert Gutu has sensationally apologised to Zimbabweans for calling for sanctions against ZANU PF saying he feels ashamed of having played a part in it.

Posting on Twitter as Joe Biden was confirmed the winner of the United States of America elections in which Trump is challenging the outcome, Gutu appeared to suggest that the same problems experienced by Zimbabwe had been imported to the economic powerhouse.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to all patriotic Zimbabweans for having played a part in the calling for the imposition of unilateral & punitive sanctions against Zimbabwe ?? by some powerful Western nations. I’m very sorry & ashamed of having let down my beloved country,” said Gutu.

Gutu resigned from MDC-T where he had assumed the vice presidency post following the split that followed late trade unionist Morgan Tsvangirai’s death in February of 2018.

He has since then been critical of opposition politics while appearing to view politics from the angle of Zanu-PF.

My Daughter Works In A Brothel

For close to a year, Barbara Majengwa thought her 17-year-old daughter was employed as a maid in Avondale, Harare.

Actually, she considered relocating her other children from the tourism town of Kariba to the capital to share in her daughter’s newly found greener pastures. They had been yearning for a breakthrough for a long time.

Reports that her daughter was earning a monthly salary of US$90 naturally made her a proud mother.

However, little did Majengwa know the supposed positive turn in fortune would soon be the source of her “biggest” heartbreak.

“She used to regularly send me money. I had no reason to suspect anything bad. But I at times got worried by the reluctance for me to visit her workplace,” narrated a distraught Majengwa.

It was not long before a close family friend let the cat out of the bag. “I think she blocked me on all her social media platforms. However, I gave my friend her number since they communicated with each other. My friend then bumped into explicit images and videos that she frequently posted on social media advertising her X-rated services, including contact details.

“I was devastated! I confronted her over the phone but she denied everything. I then decided to pay her an unannounced visit since I got her address from her social media posts. My misery doubled as I confirmed everything.”

In Harare, she found out that her daughter shared a house with seven other ladies working as sex workers.

The apartment they shared was a brothel camouflaged as a lodge. They charged clients at least US$10 for half an hour of their services. However, they only got 25 percent of the amount as the rest went to the brothel owner.

Many such misdemeanours are happening throughout the country but are going unreported. And authorities are concerned.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said some of the culprits had since been accounted for.

“Yes, we have been receiving reports but mostly from Waterfalls. We had to carry out our own investigations, which led to the arrest of some of the culprits,” he said.

“Communities should report any household or place they suspect to be a brothel so that we take the necessary action since it is illegal. As of police officers who are being accused of receiving bribes from brothel owners, action will be taken on anyone found on the wrong side. We are fighting corruption and no one is above the law.”

According to Harare City Council, some houses have been illegally transformed into guest houses or lodges.

“Reports of houses that have been converted into brothels are coming to our offices. Most of the cases include locations or areas close to the Central Business District (CBD).

“Indications are that most of the places start as lodges before they later morph into brothels,” said Harare City Council spokesperson Mr Michael Chideme.

According to council, a clampdown on brothel operations is currently being carried out in terms of Sections 32 to 35 of the Law of Property Act.

In Harare, brothels have become common in Eastlea, Avondale, Braeside, Hatfield, Msasa and Belvedere. However, property owners in some high-density areas have joined the bandwagon.

Charges are a bit low in supposed low-income neighbourhoods, and usually pegged between US$2 and US$5 per hour.

Gogo Mangwiro (63) recently turned her Highfield home in Machipisa into a paradise for ladies of easy virtue.

“I cannot call it a brothel, but, yes, my tenants are sex workers and they pay ‘rentals’ daily. I get a certain percentage on the money they charge their clients.

“The new system is working as I no longer have to go for days or weeks without money. I stay with my two grandchildren aged 10 and seven as their parents died. I occasionally need money to cater for their needs,” said the widow.

Investigations by The Sunday Mail Society revealed that some tenants are renting houses in medium- to low-density suburbs for US$500 per month and convert them into brothels without the owners’ knowledge.

The tenant will then look for sex workers to occupy the place. “I have at least six girls at any given moment — two per room. They each give me a minimum of US$10 per day. This means by end of month I would have doubled or even tripled the rental my landlord expects from me,” boasted one of the guys at a shopping mall in town.

Most brothels are said to be targeting vulnerable teenage girls, who are believed to be attracted to older and high-spending perverts.

Acting on a tip-off, we contacted one of the ladies, Christine Mafudza, who is alleged to be running a brothel that is disguised as a massage parlour.

“I used to run a massage parlour and I would even advertise in the press, but I was forced to shut down because of certain issues,” she said.

However, we produced evidence of nine under-aged girls that are currently housed at her premises. This included up-to-date social media advertisements of their illicit activities. Mafudza immediately hung up the phone. Repeated efforts to get in touch with her afterwards were in vain.

A young girl interviewed by this publication explained how she got involved in brothels.

“I started when I was still at university. I had a single boyfriend. But my parents and him (boyfriend) could not take care of my ‘special needs’, hairdos, etcetera. My fees were always paid on time though.

“I then decided to venture into prostitution together with the friends I rented an apartment with. The house became our base. It was a lucrative venture, such that two years after school I am still hooked,” confessed a young girl, who only identified herself as Latoyah.

Harare Residents Trust Director Mr Precious Shumba said although brothels are not a new phenomenon, the recent trend was disturbing.

“They (brothels) come in different categories that is for the poor and the elites. But the common denominator though is that they all serve the same purpose – prostitution.

“The numbers have gone out of hand. Clients are often well-placed members of society and the police are at times compromised to act. It is our hope that relevant authorities act decisively on this issue. Our society cannot carry on with such rot,” said Mr Shumba.

Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association chair Mr Ambrose Sibindi said their city was facing a similar predicament.

“Sokusile and Gwabalanda are leading in terms of reported cases. Our investigations have identified four houses in Sokusile that have been turned into brothels and we have engaged the police over the matter,” said Mr Sibindi.

“ . . . at one home in Nketa we discovered that both parents are in the diaspora so the children have converted the house into a brothel. We have the same situation in Luveve and they disguise their operations as a shebeens.”

Brothels are outlawed in Zimbabwe. Similarly, anyone who wishes to convert their private home to commercial use should follow due processes with local authorities.

For instance, for one to operate a lodge or massage parlour, they must apply for change of use of the property in question in terms of Section 26 (3) of the Regional, Town and Country Planning Act and obtain a conditional permit.

“Failure to do so is a contravention of Section 24 of the Act, which is a jailable offence. The Law of Property Act is empowered by the RTCP Act to institute enforcement against such contravention,” warns Mr Chideme.

Girl Guides Association of Zimbabwe commissioner Ms Florence Madhuku encouraged the public to report brothel operations.

“Our problem in most cases is that police officers are bribed and the case never sees the light of day.

“These are sensitive cases and most communities are suffering in silence. The Press together with groups like us who deal with the girl-child have to join hands and make noise.

“Because of poverty, these girls are being exploited by brothel owners. The sad thing is they end up contracting STIs and having unwanted pregnancies,” she said.

Chief Seke, born Stanley Chimanikire, believes the spread of brothels is a clear sign of growing moral decadence within communities.

“We need to act! Brothels destroy society and extended families because prostitution is money-driven, thus it knows no bounds,” he said. Sunday Mail

Prophet Who Threatened To Shoot Members Arrested

A self-proclaimed prophet who last week filmed himself threatening to shoot members of his church for refusing to believe in his prophecies has been arrested.

Madzibaba Moses Chatara of the Johane Masowe Apostolic sect appeared in court yesterday facing charges of violating the Firearms Act. He is jointly charged with Denford Ganye, who allegedly gave him the firearm. It is the State’s case that on November 5, 2020, Ganye, who is a licensed firearm owner, gave or hired the gun to Chatara.

“Moses Chatara then self-recorded himself a video threatening congregates of Johane Masowe saying he will use the firearm against his clients who deny his prophecies,” prosecutor Lloyd Tarenyika alleged.

“The video went viral on social media and investigations into the possession of the firearm were instituted.

“On November 6, 2020, Moses Chatara was arrested, leading to the arrest of the accused person and subsequent recovery of the firearm used in the commission of the offence.”

The duo was remanded out of custody to tomorrow.

Meanwhile, a Zvimba man, Gift Chemhuru (40), who was arrested last week after he was found in possession of a one-month-old baby boy allegedly kidnapped by his wife Miriam Bwanali at Spar Montague in Harare on October 22, will return to court tomorrow for routine remand.

Chemhuru has been linked to two other child kidnappings. His wife, Bwanali, is still on the run after she escaped just before police reached her house last week. -Sunday Mail

Man Killed Over “Mubobobo”

Residential Stands Scam Exposed

Donald Trump Vows That Joe Biden Has Not Won The Election As He Prepares For A Rare Court Challenge

Paul Nyathi

Donald Trump

Contrary to American electoral tradition, Donald Trump has decided not to concede the 2020 US presidential elections defeat to Democrat challenger Joe Biden.

In a statement he released from his club in Virginia where he was playing golf, Donald Trump said, “We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed. The simple fact is this election is far from over.”

Reiterating unfounded allegations over Biden’s Electoral College gains, the statement from Donald Trump added, “Joe Biden has not been certified as the winner of any states, let alone any of the highly contested states headed for mandatory recounts, or states where our campaign has valid and legitimate legal challenges that could determine the ultimate victor.”

“In Pennsylvania, for example, our legal observers were not permitted meaningful access to watch the counting process. Legal votes decide who is president, not the news media,” the statement said despite a court order allowing Trump campaign’s “poll-watchers” to observe the counting of ballots from a six-feet distance.

The statement by Republican Donald Trump went further to add, “Beginning Monday, our campaign will start prosecuting our case in court to ensure election laws are fully upheld and the rightful winner is seated. The American People are entitled to an honest election: that means counting all legal ballots, and not counting any illegal ballots. This is the only way to ensure the public has full confidence in our election.”

“It remains shocking that the Biden campaign refuses to agree with this basic principle and wants ballots counted even if they are fraudulent, manufactured, or cast by ineligible or deceased voters. Only a party engaged in wrongdoing would unlawfully keep observers out of the count room – and then fight in court to block their access,” the statement said without providing any proof or evidence of wrongdoing by the Biden campaign.

Donald Trump’s statement concluded with, “So what is Biden hiding? I will not rest until the American People have the honest vote count they deserve and that Democracy demands.”

Pakistan Thump Zimbabwe By A Humbling 6 Wickets In First T20I

Paul Nyathi

Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan (2L) and teammate Khushdil Shah (5R) meet with Zimbabwe’s players after winning the first Twenty20 cricket match between Pakistan and Zimbabwe at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi.

Pakistan defeated Zimbabwe by six wickets in the first T20 International at the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium in Rawalpindi on Saturday to take a 1-0 lead in the three-game series.

Zimbabwe won the toss and chose to bat but was left to rue that decision as Pakistan racked up regular wickets.

The visitors managed to post 156-6 after 20 overs with Wesley Madhevere managing 70 off 48 balls. The 20-year-old’s maiden T20I half-century saw him hit seven boundaries off 35 deliveries.

However, Babar Azam scored 82 off 55 deliveries as Pakistan easily chased down the target of 157 with seven balls to spare.

Zimbabwe will look to improve in the second T20I as they were guilty of some sloppy play including a number of loose deliveries and drops from what were a handful of fairly simple catches.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwe Cricket announced earlier on Saturday that former captain Elton Chigumbura will retire from international cricket after the conclusion of the tour of Pakistan.

The 34-year-old veteran Zimbabwe all-rounder made his international debut in 2004 and over the course of 16 years played in 14 Tests, 213 ODIs and 54 T20I matches, prior to his farewell series.

Kamara Harris Breaks Record As First Female Vice President Of The USA

Paul Nyathi

Kamara Harris

A year ago her own presidential dreams sputtered to a halt, but now Kamala Harris has made history by becoming the first female vice-president-elect.

How her fortunes have changed in the last 16 months.

The California senator had surged to the front of a crowded field of Democratic candidates on the back of a series of strong debate performances – and a searing critique of her rival Joe Biden over race in June 2019. By the end of the year, however, her campaign was dead.

Now the 55-year-old will be running the country alongside Mr Biden at a critical time in its history – trying to unite after a bitter few months and arresting the surge of coronavirus cases gripping parts of the US.

She will also be the first black and the first Asian American vice-president.

Lyon Coach Praises Kadewere

Olympique Lyon coach Rudi Garcia has expressed satisfaction over the progress Zimbabwean striker Tino Kadewere has made at the French Ligue side.

The 24-year-old joined Les Gones after an unforgettable 2019/20 campaign at Ligue 2 side Le Havre and appears to have settled after a difficult start, progress which has not gone unnoticed by his coach.

“Tino is important because he gets involved in games,” Garcia said at a press conference ahead of Sunday’s home game against St Etienne.

“He is good with his back to goal and his one touch game is good, he has good movement, he is selfless.”

Continued the Frenchman: “He is a tall player with headers so he can help upfront and also comes to help at the back defending free kicks. Im happy because Tino is a good guy even though there is a lot of competition here.”

Kadewere has started in the last four league games in attack, alongside captain Memphis Depay and Carl Toko Ekambi and opened his account in the 3-2 win over Strasbourg last month.-Soccer 24

Lightning: Safety Tips For Everyone

  • Still six states left to declare but Biden remains in strong position – live results here
  • The Democrat declares ‘we are going to win this race‘ after overtaking Donald Trump in Pennsylvania – winning there would be enough on its own to clinch the White House
  • Donald Trump has made more claims of voter fraud in a series of early morning tweets
  • A recount is announced in Georgia – a reliably Republican state where Biden also overtook the president due to mail-in ballots
  • What are the numbers? Biden remains on 253 Electoral College votes in the race to 270. He needs: Pennsylvania (20) or two of Arizona (11), Georgia (16), Nevada (6) and North Carolina (15)
  • Trump still convinced battle is ‘not over’ more than 72 hours after election day. He is on 214 and needs Pennsylvania and three of Arizona, Georgia, Nevada and North Carolina to win or potentially tie
  • He is pursuing legal action in at least four states amid  unsubstantiated claims of ‘voter fraud’
  • Fiji’s PM becomes first world leader to congratulate Joe Biden – even though he has not yet won
  • What happens next? Pennsylvania and Georgia remain most likely to declare next and there is some expectation that Saturday could finally be the day

ZIMTA Challenges Govt Over Soldiers, Police Officers’ “Hefty” Salaries

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Teachers Association (ZIMTA) has queried why other public sector employees such as soldiers, police officers and prison guards are paid more than teachers.

ZIMTA chief executive Sifiso Ndlovu on Friday said it was unfortunate that the government has resorted to intimidatory tactics rather than addressing teachers’ incapacitation.

This comes after Primary and Secondary Education secretary Tumisang Thabela on Friday wrote a circular to provincial education directors (PEDs) to provide names of teachers that are not reporting for duty so that their salaries will be docked.

Ndlovu said: Unfortunately, it is an intimidatory tactic they are using to the unsuspecting educators who are toiling under poor salaries.

We will support a process which seeks to capacitate teachers to go back to work so that we can resolve the crisis in education and resolve it for the benefit of the public.

This is public education that is suffering. So in our view, there is no teacher who has failed to report for work because they want to, but (cannot) because the employer has failed to meet their side of the budget.

To make matters worse, they have even used a discriminatory approach to workers. They are treating other civil servants differently, especially the security forces, and teachers have to be treated as the lowest rank.

The government has of late resorted to arm-twisting its poorly paid workers to make them report for duty. Recently, more than 1 000 nurses were struck off the payroll after they refused to resort to the normal 40-hour working week following the government’s unilateral decision to terminate the flexible working hours arrangement.-Newsday

“Stop The Intimidation. It’s Genuine Incapacitation”: Teachers Tell Govt

By A Correspondent- The Progressive Teachers Union (PTUZ) has accused the Public Service Commission (PSC) and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education of ‘unbridled arrogance’ after the government on 6 November directed provincial education directors (PEDs) to provide names of striking teachers so that their salaries are docked.

In a statement on Saturday, PTUZ president Takavafira Zhou said teachers are not at work not by choice but are genuinely incapacitated.

Zhou said government officials have not even bothered to respond to communiques directed to them by individual teacher unions as well as by the United Front of Teacher Unions.

Said Zhou:

Our humble submission to all teachers is that its game on next week as our incapacitation enters a decisive phase. We will no eat threats.

No amount of threat and brutality can drive teachers to schools. Only the capacitation of teachers is an antidote to real incapacitation faced by teachers.

Zhou urged school heads not to compile the names of absent teachers, saying they should remember that they are also wallowing in poverty as the rest of the teachers.

Most teachers have not reported for duty since schools reopened for examination classes on September 28 after a six-month coronavirus-induced closure, demanding a review of their salaries.-DailyNews

Karanda In U-Turn Over Implicating The First Family In Rushwaya Gold Boob

By A Correspondent- Gift Karanda, a former Zimbabwe Miners Federation (ZMF) employee has denied State claims that he implicated First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa and her son, Collins, in Henrietta Rushwaya’s attempted gold smuggling incident.

Karanda accused the police of making up statements. He said this when he appeared before magistrate Ngoni Nduna for bail hearing on Friday.

Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) operative Raphinos Mufandauya (37) also denied having any links with Rushwaya.

Mufandauya, through his lawyer Joshua John Chirambwe, claimed he was the one who arrested Rushwaya and had never met her prior to the airport incident on October 26, 2020.

Mufandauya is a CIO operative at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport.

He is accused of facilitating the smuggling of 6kg of gold using his airport pass to assist three other accomplices to evade security checks.

However, Detective Inspector Michael Chibaya, the investigations officer in the case, said he was unhappy that the defence wanted to scandalise the police.

Chibaya also denied that Mufandauya was the one who arrested Rushwaya.

5 Masvingo Members Catch COVID-19

By A Correspondent- A government official has urged citizens to avoid complacency after five Masvingo family members recently tested positive to SARS-CoV-2, the novel coronavirus.

The infected people include two parents, their two children and a minor relative.

Masvingo provincial COVID-19 taskforce spokesperson Rogers Irimai said the five, from Rujeko high-density suburb, were asymptomatic and self-isolating at home.

He said:

Our rapid response team is busy doing contact tracing to establish who the patients have been in contact with recently.

The teachers and classes at the school where the kids are going are likely to be placed under quarantine, the other kids they play with in their neighbourhood, as well as the workplaces of the parents.

Irimai added that Zimbabwe, like any other country, risked the second way of coronavirus infections following the gradual relaxation of lockdown regulations.

A second wave can be more dangerous and come with a stronger strain of the virus, Irimai said.

As of 6 November 2020, Zimbabwe had recorded 8 471 coronavirus positive cases, 7 983 recoveries and 250 deaths.

“Brace For Another Power Price Increase”: Energy Minister

By A Correspondent- Following electricity tariff hikes of 50% on 23 September and of similar percentages on 1 October and 1 November 2020 by power utility ZESA, Energy and Power Development Minister Zhemu Soda has warned members of the public and businesses to brace for another increase.

Soda was asked by Members of Parliament why the price of electricity was doubled in a short space of time and his response was that tariffs were too low.

He said:

You will notice that for 300kwh, the average cost per unit is around $6,33 whereas the optimum level that is supposed to be achieved is around US$0,10 cents if we are to restore the tariff to where it was in March.

I will also indicate that the country is importing power at an average of US$0,9 cents and for independent power producers who are also feeding onto the grid, the payment that is being done is US$0,9 cents.

So, you will realise that there is a subsidy because the average cost per unit is US$0,6 cents whereas the country is importing power at US$0,9 cents.

In terms of policy… domestic consumers are subsidised.

Soda added that power tariffs were not exorbitant at all and the critical issue that is being addressed by the increases is ZESA’s viability in terms of the cost that it is incurring in order to generate, transmit and distribute power.-DailyNews

“Henrietta Rushwaya Called First Lady”: Report

Henrietta Rushwaya allegedly made frank calls to First Lady Auxillia Mnangagwa when she was cornered by security services at the Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport last week.

According to NewsHawks, Rushwaya, with the help of state and airport security, was given safe passage after the closed-circuit television system (CCTV) had already been switched off. The publication quoted its source as saying:

What happened was that after airport security and police had intercepted the gold, Rushwaya started fretting and moving up and down making calls. Among several people she called, she dialled the First Lady, but she didn’t answer.

Apparently, at that time President Mnangagwa and the First Lady were not yet aware of what was happening.

CIO Director-General Isaac Moyo and his agents were already in the picture, trying to manage the situation.

They tried to reach Mnangagwa, but it took a while for them to find him. Rushwaya never found Auxillia. So those delays changed the course of events.

… By the time Moyo spoke to Mnangagwa, they were already behind the situation as events were moving too fast, even if they still had a fighting chance to act to protect the President.

Auxillia never got an opportunity to return Rushwaya’s call…

Mathema Trashes Reports That There Is Chaos In Schools

Paul Nyathi

Education Minister Cain Mathema

Education Minister Cain Mathema has opposed his Deputy who early this week expressed fears that there will be chaos when schools fully open next week as the schools are generally not ready to receive learners.

Primary and Secondary Education deputy minister Edgar Moyo yesterday admitting that they don’t have enough teachers to cater for such huge volumes.

Schools are expected to open on Monday for Forms 1 and 2, Grades 1 to 5 and Early Childhood Development, meaning they will be operating at full throttle after closing in March due to COVID-19 lockdown restrictions.

Teachers refused to return to work when schools reopened September for examination classes citing poor salaries.

However, despite teachers’ unions and other stakeholders advising government not to open schools yet, the ministry went on to announce a phased reopening of schools.

“The successful re-opening of phase three would require more teachers to attend classes because their numbers currently are insufficient to handle large volumes of students who will be coming in, which is about three million,” Moyo said.

Minister Mathema however says that when the last classes go back to school next week they will find that adequate measures informed by World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines have been put in place to ensure safety of pupils.

The Minister said in keeping with social distancing rules, the classes would be broken into smaller groups handled by additional teachers already employed at schools, while examinations will see pupils spread across more classrooms or sitting in spacious halls to minimise chances of infection.

Mathema said schools will not be allowed to crowd learners as some schools will do hot-seating while others students will be given specific dates for coming to school.

“Let us not get the impression that there is anarchy. There is no anarchy at schools. We are ready to welcome all learners back to school. It is all systems go, we are starting our exams in December.

“Let us allow the school heads to manage the schools as best as they can under the situation. We have recruited 5 300 more teachers. So it is those teachers who will assist us to manage the situation,” said Minister Mathema.

He said the ministry has done what needed to be done in terms of adherence to WHO protocols, including breaking classes into smaller groups and ensuring masks and sanitisers are available and used.

“What we want is to see all teachers at work. We are not happy that some teachers are not at work. We want them back to manage learners under the Covid-19 situation,” said Minister Mathema.

“Government through the Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Ministry is negotiating with all civil servants’ representatives and we hope the results of these negotiations will see all the teachers coming back to work.

“We have managed the situation under Covid-19. Let’s hope they will agree with the Government. We want the teachers back, the learners want them back and the parents want them back.”

But the industrial action by some teachers will have an impact.

“We will definitely experience a serious shortage of teachers to successfully attend to the extra classes created by social distancing requirements,” said National Association of Secondary Heads (NASH) president Mr Arthur Maposa.

National Association of Primary Heads (NAPH) president Mrs Cynthia Khumalo said there is also a challenge of adequate teachers reporting for duty.

Meanwhile, most private schools have been adhering to Government’s laid down protocols. Dr Tapera Chikandiwa, director of Higher Achievers School said they have further broken classes to ensure social distancing protocols are maintained.

Scuffle At Walter Magaya’s Church

Walter Magaya

A SCUFFLE broke out at the Prophetic Healing and Deliverance (PHD) Ministries in Bellville, Cape Town, this week when current church members tried to block former members from entering the church.

The former members accuse the church of scamming them out of money they invested in housing and other projects.

Police came to the scene and advised the protesters to approach a land claims court.

The members signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) in 2016 with a subsidiary of the church’s investment arm, giving them rights to a residential stand in Zimbabwe. But the company has neither delivered the stand nor reimbursed their money as promised.

The same group protested on 17 July and threatened to cause havoc.

On Sunday, about 20 people held posters that read: “We did not come to work for you Walter Magaya” and “We want our money from you Walter Magaya”.

The church was founded in 2012 by Magaya and also has branches in Zimbabwe, Zambia and Australia.

A man who gave his name as Austin Madzivire begged the protesters to write down their names, mobile numbers and to return on Tuesday to meet with the finance office.

“The church has already started paying but there is a challenge that some of the numbers in our records are outdated. A few people have already been paid their money. Come back during the week. We let police leave the scene because we know you are within your rights,” he said.

After writing their names down, the protesters warned that if they return Tuesday and do not get their money, they will disrupt the church every Sunday until they are paid.

Stanley Mudzingwa said he quarrels every day with his wife about the R40,000 he invested with the PHD. “I have tried to engage the church since 2018 … They keep on giving me false promises,” he said.

A woman demonstrating told GroundUp she had invested R34,000 for a housing project. “All I want is my money. I am struggling with four children. Since lockdown I am not working. When I went to Zimbabwe to claim they said go back to Cape Town where you paid your money.”

One of the demonstrators said: “I wish the new faces fighting with us would open their eyes and learn from our situation. This church used to have an overflow. We would come here and stand the whole services because all seats were taken but look now …. the church is left with a handful of new faces. Where are all those people who used to fill the church?”

Police Shoot To Kill Innocent Mberengwa Man

A police officer from the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Support Unit allegedly shot and killed an innocent man by pumping four bullets into his chest in Mberengwa on Tuesday morning.

The victim, Lodrick Matsweru (26), was visiting a friend, Danidzirai Muzhanduki, at Village 3 Rudway in Chief Bvute’s area.

On the fateful day, Matsweru was sleeping when he heard a knock on the door around four AM. When he opened the door, he was met with a hail of bullets and died instantly.

The police officers were looking for an armed robber but opened fire without asking any questions or verifying the identity of the person who opened the door.

Reports indicate that police were looking for either Tichaona Muzhanduki or Doubt Chiponda suspected to have robbed a crew of a fuel tanker of some money.

The cops, some of whose names are in the hands of The Mirror allegedly tried to run away after the shooting but were blocked by angry villagers who had gathered at the scene.

It is further alleged that the robber had US$31 000 on him and the cops may have had an interest in that money.-The Mirror

Search For Missing Parks Official After Air Crash Still Ongoing Two Weeks After

The search for the missing Zimbabwe National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) ecologist Exeverino Chinoitezvi is still ongoing, two weeks after he left the wreckage of a plane crash in the Zambezi Valley.

A Zimparks Cessna 182 light aircraft crashed in remote Chewore National Park on Friday, October 23 with four people on board; Petrus C. Villijeon the pilot and co-pilot Calvyn Van Den Berg (both South Africans), Chinoitezvi and Pradeep Singh, a wildlife consultant.

Villijeon was reportedly found dead on the spot while Singh and Van Den Berg were critically injured and found trapped in the wreckage.

Chinoitezvi, who is ordinarily based in Sengwa in Midlands, left his shoes, probably to seek help or in the heat of the moment and is still missing. Zimparks spokesperson Tinashe Farawo said:

The search is still on and we hope to find our colleague soon. We are grateful to our partners for all the efforts they are putting. We are still hoping to reunite with our colleague.

Despite the Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) joining the search, there are numerous challenges being encountered by the search party. The Herald quotes its source as having said:

Chinoitezvi left his shoes at the scene by the plane, maybe at the confusion of the moment and has not been found. Without shoes, his feet are too soft to leave a hard spoor.

Again, the ground foliage in the area is too difficult. There are croton and mopane trees that drop a lot of leaves and there is a carpet of dead leaves covering the ground for a vast swathe. This is what has made the search very difficult.

Then there is a lot of wildlife, predators of all kind from lions to leopards and hyenas.

Again, the high temperatures of up to 40 degrees Celsius, which are the norm this time of the year, take a lot of energy.

He might have tried to get water but most of the rivers in the area are dry this time of the year, except the Zambezi which is more than 20km from the crash site.

Ali Mohammed Facilitated Rushwaya’s Doomed Trip To Dubai

Ms-Henrietta-Rushwaya-

Ali Mohammed, who is Henrietta Rushwaya’s co-accused in the ongoing gold smuggling case has been nailed by the State amid fresh evidence that he facilitated Rushwaya’s trip to Dubai.

The court heard that from the retrieved phone call records Mohammed facilitated Rushwaya’s trip to Dubai and as such could not dissociate himself from the smuggling case.

The court also heard that Mohammed was in the country on a business trip and his visa expired.

The court also heard that Mohammed generated commercial invoices as well as packing lists specifying the weight of each bar of gold.

Rushwaya was arrested on October 26 at the Robert Mugabe International Airport as she attempted to smuggle 6kg of gold to Dubai.

Bobi Wine Announces Manifesto Launch | FULL TEXT

UPDATE ON OUR MANIFESTO LAUNCH

As we did announce, we shall be launching our manifesto tomorrow Saturday, in Mbarara City.

We first attempted to hold the event in a hotel in Mbarara but several of them informed us that they were instructed by security not to host us. In fact, we had paid booking fees for Adit House but the proprietor called back with apologies that the RDC instructed him to refund our money!

We went ahead and secured another venue along Buremba Road in Kakoba Division. Preparations have been in high gear, until today when they came and complained that the place is so close to the town centre! They also gave illegal instructions that we must not pass through the town or even spend the night there. We had notified them of our intention to officially open our office located on Makhan Singh street, but they claim that we cannot do this, because our office is in town!

Eventually they told us to hold our event at Kakyeka stadium which is slightly out of town! They insisted that even in a stadium, we must host only 70 people. It is clear the intention is to prevent any display of support to us by so many supporters that we have in Mbarara, as in all parts of the country.
THEY FEAR WHAT THEY DONNO!

We shall be there tomorrow 11am, Kakyeka stadium.

Mohadi Doing Away With Bush Boarding Facilities, Children Going Back To Walking Distances To School Everyday

State Media

Kembo Mohadi

THE Government is working on eradicating “bush” boarding facilities which tend to expose girls to a number of dangers, Vice-President Kembo Mohadi has said.

Bush boarding facilities comprise shacks which accommodate pupils living far away from schools that have no boarding facilities. Individual pupils build the shacks mainly from pole and dagga and cook for themselves. At these makeshift compounds, there are no basic facilities such as toilets and bathrooms and pupils have to improvise thereby exposing themselves to risks of contracting diseases.

Bush boarding facilities have never, even in the best of situations, been conducive for pupils. There are no adults to supervise the pupils and as such its a free-for-all at these boarding facilities thereby exposing especially girls to sexual abuse.

Ideally a ward in Zimbabwe should have a primary school and about three or four primary schools should be served by a secondary school.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education Ambassador Cain Mathema recently said there is a shortage of about 3 000 schools in Zimbabwe.

Speaking during a tour at St Paul Mandlakhe High School in Lupane yesterday, VP Mohadi said ensuring the safety of the girl child was one of Government’s top priorities.

He said the state-of-the-art laboratory which is under construction at the school was going to a go a long way in cultivating the love for science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

“We are here at St Paul’s Amandlethu AMR High School to see the progress regarding the constructions of a girls hostel and an advanced level laboratory whose construction is being sponsored in partnership with Ubuntu Schales Trust and World Vision,” said VP Mohadi.

“The Construction of a girls’ hostel is something quite significant to Government given the value we accord to the girl child in our society. The hostel will provide decent accommodation and other modern amenities needed for a conducive learning environment. Government is working on eradicating what I would term bush boarding facilities still prevalent in some of our schools in rural areas where learners especially the girl child are exposed to all manner of vices.”

He said the state-of-the-art Advanced Level laboratory will offer learners a platform to hone skills and knowledge desired from the competency-based curriculum.

“The construction of the lab is in line with the country’s education system that has a bias on science, technology, mathematics engineering. Our education system now seeks to develop a complete rounded person with Ubuntu and capable of research and innovation that fosters creativity and industrialisation for our nation,” said VP Mohadi.

Pupils at the school also showcased their agro-based projects which include cattle and goat rearing.

The livestock projects were a result of eager parents who due to financial constraints decided to give the school goats and cows so that their children could access education.

Part of the projects also include the keeping of turkeys which the school uses to complement meals for the pupils.

VP Mohadi commended the school for instilling entrepreneurship values to the pupils saying every school in Zimbabwe should work towards being a business centre.

“The vibrant cattle goat and turkey projects that I have seen are in line with the Government’s quest for a competency-based curriculum which is a vehicle for education with production and ultimately the attainment of vision 2030. We have put in place an education system that seeks to mound learners who can convert theory into goods and services that are of use to you and me,” said VP Mohadi.

According to the Vice-President, the curriculum is preparing learners for life and work in a larger agro-based economy and in an increasingly globalised and competitive environment.

“The Government under its vision 2030 seeks to invest in sufficient state-of-the-art facilities like science labs in schools working in collaboration with other partners and stakeholders. Our country considers access to a high quality and relevant education for all learners as a basic right and a foundation that underpins social economic development of our country.”

Botswana Lady Raped By Zimbabwean Man Asks Botswana Police To Provide Her With His Contacts As She Wants Him To Come Back For More

Correspondent

Oscar Chabaya

PROSECUTORS in Botswana were left stunned recently when a young woman who was raped by a Zimbabwean man in that country refused to testify against him, but instead asked the police to supply her with the rapist’s cellphone number as he had sexually satisfied her.

Oscar Chabaya (34), from Zimbabwe, this week appeared for his ruling before an Extension II Magistrate, Lentlhabetse Willie in Tlokweng facing three counts of rape, one attempted rape, two robberies and one common theft during a month-long reign of terror in Tlokweng three years ago.

However, one of the victims refused to appear in court and testify against Chabaya instead telling the police to find his cellphone number as he had satisfied her when he raped her in 2017.

According to the state, Chabaya better known as Devil Triple Six also did not wear a condom when he raped the women as his manhood was too big for the latex to fit.

Chabaya targeted tertiary students under the age of 24 before breaking into their homes at night to rape them. He would tell his victims he was good in bed and they would call him begging for more.

Before raping his victims, Chabaya who was always armed with a knife, is said to have toyed with the women.

The court heard how, two days before the serial rapist’s arrest, on 24 April 2017 a young woman awoke in the middle of the night to find Chabaya standing in her bedroom.

He warned her not to scream and demanded the password to her cellphone.

“He put a memory card in my phone, went to the gallery and forced me to play a pornography video of six men having sex with one lady. I refused and he threatened to stab me with a knife. He ordered I do exactly what the lady in the video was doing, putting his penis in my mouth for sexual gratification. I was with my roommate and he ordered that she join in and we suck his penis. He told me he is good in sex and that if we allow him to have sex with us, we will call him for more,” reads the victim’s detailed statement.

The victim went on to say Chabaya had not wanted to use protection but she convinced him to use a condom.

However, she attempted to put the condom on Chabaya three times ‘but it would not fit his erect penis’. In her statement, the young lady said Chabaya suggested it would be nice if ‘she was on top’.

“He laid on his back and I went on top. That gave my roommate a chance to unlock the door and she ran out and screamed for help.”

Chabaya then followed suit, fleeing into the night with the ladies’ cellphones.

He was arrested two days later – 26 April 2017 – after police matched his DNA to an earlier robbery case in which he cut his hand on a gate when making his escape.

Chabaya’s rape spree started on 24 March 2017, gaining entry into his victims’ house through a window left open. Once inside, he found five women sleeping. He searched the house for cellphones before raping two of the ladies without protection.

Some 10 days later, on 3 April, he again broke into a residence in Tlokweng and raped one of the occupants.

Court heard that Chabaya had intended on raping her roommate but decided not to as she was on her period. He is said to have forced her to remove her underwear to prove that she was indeed menstruating.

After the rape, he again fled into the night with the ladies’ cellphones.

In convicting Chabaya, Magistrate Willie ruled the state had proved beyond a reasonable doubt that the sexual intercourse occurred without the victims’ consent.

Passing sentence, the magistrate said rape cases were on the increase in Botswana and perpetrators like Chabaya deserved stiffer sentences. The magistrate advised him of his right to appeal at the High Court with 14 days if he was unhappy with the sentence.
