$50k Bail For Corruption Accused Harare Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango

By A Correspondent- Hosiah Chisango, Harare Town Clerk has been freed on  $50 000 bail after he was arrested in Gweru by Special Anti Corruption Unit (SACU) last week.

According to The Herald reports, Chisango was arrested together with the director of housing and community services Addmore Nhekairo and suspended town planner, Samuel Nyabezi and the trio were all released on bail by Harare Magistrate Mrs Bianca Makwande.

Under his bail condition, Chisango was ordered not to visit the Town House until October 5 to allow investigations to be finalised. In granting Chisango bail, Makwande said:

First accused (Chisango) holds a powerful position at council and is reasonable to conclude that he would interfere with witnesses. What is clear is that this witness recorded a warned and cautioned statement and there is no likelihood that he would interfere with this witness.

Accused two (Nhekairo) has been on bail on other matters and has not attempted to interfere or influence investigations. This matter is not peculiar to other matters he is facing before the court. He has not been interfering with investigations in those cases and there is no room for him to interfere with witnesses.

Chisango has denied allegations levelled against him and said he committed no crime anything he is accused of he only acted according to his duties and responsibilities as enshrined in the Urban Councils Act and that it was the State’s onus to prove criminal conduct.

VID And Registrar’s Office Re-open As Lockdown Measures Are Further Relaxed

Government has approved the resumption of operations at the Vehicle Inspection Department and Registrar’s Office with intercity travelling now permitted according to Tuesday’s cabinet meeting press briefing.

Speaking during the post-cabinet briefing yesterday, Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa said the decision to permit intercity movement was to ensure easy movement of pupils back to school among other sectors.

“In view of the re-opening of schools for examination classes, the tourism and hospitality industry and aviation sectors and the need to afford the working class time to attend gymnasia, cabinet approved the extension of business operating hours including those of gymnasia from 0630hours to 1830hours.

“Cabinet further approved the resumption of inter-city travel to facilitate the smooth movement of examination candidates, citizens and visitors,” said Mutsvangwa

Zimbabwe Cannot Buy COVID-19 Test Kits, PPEs But It Is Squandering US$100m On Pointless By Elections

By Patrick Guramatunhu- “The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) would like to inform the public that is has lifted with immediate effect the suspension of electoral activities with immediate effect the suspension of electoral activities following measures taken by the government to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic,” reads the statement from ZEC.

“Electoral timelines for all pending by-elections will be published in the press through notices in due course.”

I strongly object to the holding of these by-elections for four reasons;

  1. Zimbabwe has not been conducting corona virus test at anywhere near the level it should be doing. As of end of July SA had done 3 million covid 19 tests out of a population of 60 million, i.e. test 1 in 20 South Africans. In the same period Zimbabwe had only done 145 000 tests out of a population of 16 million, i.e. test 1 in 110 Zimbabweans or 20% of what SA had done. Zimbabwe’s covid-19 confirmed cases and deaths have remained very low compared to SA but is only because we have not been testing! Likewise, the decision to ease the corona virus restrictions is based on conjecture and not science and reality. Allowing rallies and other political activities to resume will only allow the corona virus to spread.
  1. “The electoral commission (ZEC) lacked full independence and appeared to not always act in an impartial manner. The final results as announced by the Electoral Commission contained numerous errors and lacked adequate traceability, transparency and verifiability,” the EU Election Observer Mission stated in its final report. “As such, many aspects of the 2018 elections in Zimbabwe failed to meet international standard.” ZEC had failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll for Pete’s sake! Nothing has change since the rigged July 2018 elections. There is still no verified voters’ roll, no even one of the 3 million Zimbabweans in the diaspora denied a vote have been registered as voters, the oppressive system that has turned the rural voters into medieval serfs beholden to the Zanu PF leaders and their operatives is still in place, etc.
  1. Zanu PF rigged the July 2018 elections securing the 2/3 parliamentary majority and the presidency; the damage was done then. The by-elections are mainly over the opposition seats and the result will have no effect, Zimbabwe will still be stuck with a vote rigging and illegitimate Zanu PF regime.
  1. There could be as many as 50 parliamentary by-elections alone each costing US$2 million, at least. The by-elections have been triggered by Madam Thokozani Khupe who has been recalling MPs and councillors who have refused to switch loyalty from Chamisa to her. Zimbabwe is failing to mobilise money and resources to but covid-19 test kits, PPE for the covid-19 frontline workers, to ensure there is clean running water for hospitals and clinics, up to 8 million Zimbabweans are facing food shortage, etc. How can we justify splash US$100 million on by-election everyone knows are just a futile exercise!

According to the John Hopkins Research Centre SA has 650 749 confirmed covid-19 cases and 15 499 deaths. If Zimbabwe had been testing, tracing and tracking as aggressively as the World Health Organisation and common sense dictates the country will have 1/4 SA’s figures (give Zimbabwe population is 1/4 that of SA).

So instead of 162 000 or so cases and 3 800 deaths Zimbabwe has 7 531 cases and 224 deaths; all because Zimbabwe has not been testing. The price of not testing and having very low covid-19 figures, probably one of the lowest per capita in the world, is many people with the virus who should have been in isolation have continue to roam free spreading the virus.

Of course, it is insane to relax the corona virus restrictions at the very time when the virus is still spreading and, worst of all,  do so for sake of keeping up the Zimbabwe is a healthy democratic nation appearance. If you are not infuriated by foolishness of this Zanu PF regime, it can only be because you don’t comprehend the gravity of the situation and insanity of it all

Facebook partners with Zimbabwe’s NBS to increase Blood Donations in the country

Facebook partners with the National Blood Service Zimbabwe to increase Blood Donations in the country

Starting today, Zimbabweans who are between 18-65 years old, will have the option to sign up as blood donors on Facebook

HARARE, Zimbabwe, September 16, 2020/ — Facebook in partnership with the National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) announce a new feature to encourage people to donate blood. Starting today, Zimbabweans who are between 18-65 years old, will have the option to sign up as blood donors on Facebook, be notified when blood donor centres near them have an urgent need for donations and invite friends to donate.

With Zimbabwe being the eighth country in Africa where Facebook has launched this feature, this initiative comes at a crucial time as the pandemic is now widespread, resulting in the country starting to see a significant drop in blood donations due to people staying home to prevent the spread of COVID-19, despite the World Health Organization saying it is still safe to donate blood.

Since its launch in 2017, Facebook has partnered with blood donation centres around the world, with more than 70 million people having signed up to be blood donors on Facebook. The feature is available in the following countries in Africa: Senegal, Burkina Faso, Egypt, Côte d’Ivoire, Kenya, Niger and South Africa, with 45 000 people signing up as donors in South Africa within the first month of the launch.

Commenting on the partnership, Kojo Boakye, Public Policy Director Facebook Africa said: “We are committed to building safe and supportive communities on Facebook during these challenging times. It is crucial to make it easy to connect people that want to donate with the opportunity to give, whilst learning about the blood donation centres around them and hopefully inspiring action within their communities. This is an important partnership with the National Blood Service Zimbabwe (NBSZ) and a necessary step that we believe will make a positive difference to the blood donation ecosystem in Zimbabwe.”

NBSZ Spokesperson and Public Affairs Manager Ms Esther Massundah said “The challenges brought by COVID-19 have necessitated the need for NBSZ to embrace new ways of blood donor mobilization. The partnership with Facebook Africa is also in line with the organization’s efforts of collaborating with value-added partners. Facebook is very popular with our blood donors and through this new platform, they will also be able to assist in the recruitment of new donors by inviting their family and friends through this new application to scheduled blood drives in the different communities.”

How It Works

People between the ages of 18 – 65 in Zimbabwe can sign up to be a blood donor on Facebook by going to Blood Donations in the About section of your profile, or access the link: www.Facebook.com/donateblood. People will be able to see requests and opportunities to donate on Blood Donations on Facebook (https://bit.ly/3bZQN5u) on their mobile devices from nearby donation sites.

Chiwenga Off To SA For Medicals

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe’s VP Constantino Chiwenga is reportedly flying to South Africa for medical treatment.

At the time of writing, VP Chiwenga was attending a politburo meeting.

According to a source close to the VP, the country’s new Health minister is set to go for his routine medical checkup in the Southern African country today.

The development comes barely a week after he was quoted in the media saying government has stopped footing the medical bills of all senior government officials in order to maintain the national medical bill.

Said Chiwenga:

“We will not export our patients. We will not make referrals to our patients. It is everybody, ministers. Those who have been going out it is you and me. Is it not it? Altogether but that export bill was too high and that is what we want to do away with.”

Fact Finding Mission That Never Was. WE ARE BACK TO SQUARE ONE!

It took six months for Zimbabwe Election Commission (ZEC) to release the official 2008 election results with Patrick Chinamasa then Legal and Justice Minister insisting that they were correcting ‘anomalies’ which were in the database.
According to ZEC insiders, the late icon and MDC founder Morgan Tsvangirai had polled over 75% of the popular vote, and there was apparently no need for a second round of polls. It took Thabo Mbeki, the then South African President, to fly to Zimbabwe to play a mediation role between the warring parties.
Mugabe deployed the military and ‘thugs’ throughout the country, to assist Zanu PF to retain the presidency by any means necessary on June 27, 2008. Tsvangirai pulled out of that ‘sham’ run-off against Mugabe citing many irregularities which include among others spates of arbitrary arrests, intimidation, torture and government-organized violence against all suspected MDC supporters.
His decision followed a campaign of unimaginable brutality in which independent human rights group and MDC estimated 153 MDC supporters were killed and thousands were displaced and had their homes burnt down by suspected ZANU arsonists and neds.
Mugabe, after orchestrating state-sponsored violence then went ahead uncontested and ‘won’ an eerie election with only one candidate. He faced serious resistance at AU meeting following his re-election where he was embarrassed in full view of the whole world after failing to justify to the international journalists the uncanny one man race and his subsequent inauguration. Both SADC and AU forced Mugabe to accept mediation between his Zanu PF party and Movement for Democratic Change led by Tsvangirai.
Thabo Mbeki flew to Harare to talk to the two leaders, Morgan Tsvangirai and Robert Mugabe and they came up with Global Political Agreement (GPA) which brought about the Government of National Unity (GNU), an Inclusive arrangement. The arrangement lasted for only five years and recorded some positive results. Mbeki flew back to his own country where he was crucified few days after brokering a short-lived resolution to Zimbabwe’s crisis.
The SADC facilitated talks which were mediated by Mbeki resulted in officials drawing hefty allowances from the bankrupt government with meetings being held in Mozambique, Botswana and Zambia.
However Zimbabwe was back to square one after disputed 2013 elections
After all these costly meetings, mediations, talks, jaunts, we are back to square one and  it has dawned on us that these so called conciliators are just creating ‘ghost envoys’ and trips to fatten their pockets.
Following 1 August 2018 shootings where seven innocent civilians were gunned down by soldiers in broad day light in Harare CBD as a result of yet another disputed poll, President Emmerson Mnangagwa appointed a Commission of inquiry which was led by former South Africa Kgalema Motlantte.
The Commission’s work was marred by horrible fiction and embarrassing episodes with some senior military officials making unbridled gaffes which left the whole country almost dumbfounded and irate.  The Commission’s mission failed to yield meaningful results but left citizens more divided than ever amid high political temperatures.
Late last year Cyril Ramaphosa, the current South African President dispatched an envoy led by Thabo Mbeki whose mediation in Zimbabwe remains unclear. Mbeki secretively visited Harare on 16 December 2019 and met both President Mnangagwa and MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa. Nothing tangible emerged from both meetings.
Few weeks ago, Ramaphosa dispatched another delegation led by Mbete and other few respected ANC officials. The delegation managed to meet President Mnangagwa and  ZANU PF only and left the country in less than 24 hours. To date, nobody knows what happened and what the delegation’s mission was. Were these officials on a fact finding mission? If so, why didn’t they meet other stakeholders? Who is funding all fruitless jaunts, luncheons and dinners?
We have gone back to square one.
Recently, #zimbabwelivesmatter was introduced as citizens registered their displeasure following a spate of human rights violations by the ruling ZANU PF party. High profile arrests and detentions without trials were recorded. To make matters worse, journalists and democracy activists were allegedly abducted and tortured. The behavior by the ruling party received wide condemnation in Zimbabwe, Africa and beyond with various organizations calling for the ‘thugs’ to cease human rights violations.
Owing to pressure in and outside South Africa, the same Ramaphosa dispatched another ANC delegation to Zimbabwe. Surprisingly, the delegation went straight to Zanu PF Headquarters, and met senior Zanu PF officials. Zimbabweans are not aware of what transpired inside ZANU PF HQ building. The ANC delegation, which no one ever reposes their hope in, said it will come back soon to meet other stakeholders.
We actually back to square one
Zimbabwe is fractured with many unresolved problems and our position as Zimbabwe Institute of Strategic Thinking (ZIST) is we are not supposed to waste a lot of resources hunting for costly solutions outside the country. We need home-grown solutions which will scaffold the nation for growth and stability.  ZIST’s role is to facilitate honest talks among Zimbabweans and we will make sure Mnangagwa and Chamisa meet without involving external forces.
We precious minerals which include gold, chrome, copper and we are the second largest platinum producer in the world and diamonds worthy over 60 billion United States Dollars but we are starving.  Our own diamonds are being polished in Dubai with our own people and we are losing both human resources and natural resources. What is really our problem? Definitely we have leadership crisis. Foreign mediation projects are yielding nothing and I strongly believe if we stick to home-grown solutions we will take the country out of quagmire it finds itself in.
With all the envoys, commissions, we have over 6 million people who are food insecure. Our nation is divided and people no longer debate maturely on key platforms. The nation is torn with hatred and we have people who believe in juju to solve problems. We have deep rooted corruption in both private and public sectors. Civic are being arrested and the envoys have failed to resolve a single problem.
We are back to square one

Takudzwa Ngadziore Refuses To Be Silenced

Paul Nyathi

THE Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) president Takudzwa Ngadziore was on Monday granted ZW$2,000 bail by a Harare magistrates court.

As part of the bail conditions he has been ordered to stay 100 metres away from Impala Car Rental premises in Harare.

Ngadziore was arrested last Thursday following protests outside Impala Car Rental company and spent the weekend in prison after his bail hearing was postponed to Monday after Harare magistrate Barbra Mateko said she was overwhelmed with work as she ordered the further detention of president Takudzwa Godfrey Ngadziore on Friday.

The defiant students leader has since called for a press conference exactly 101 metre away from Impala Car Rental located at number 40 Chiremba Road in Harare on Friday.

The Courts ordered me to stay exactly 100 Meters away from @impalacarrental. As a Law abiding Citizen, I do hereby invite all members of the Fourth Estate (Press) to a Statement Venue: Exactly 101 meters away from @impalacarrental

Hopes Begin To Fade As Illegal Miners Trapped Under Ground Over A Week Ago Are Still Not Found

Paul Nyathi

Hope of finding alive five illegal miners trapped underground after a shaft collapsed at Task Mine in Chegutu are beginning to fade as over seven days have gone by since rescue operations began.

Mines and Mining Development Minister Hon Winston Chitando has had to take time to visit the site to assess the ongoing rescue operations.

The collapse of the mine was allegedly triggered by a weak surface due to unregulated shaft sinking with too many shafts close together.

“Shafts are almost 10 meters close to each other instead of the recommended 30 meters and the miners are using ropes where the shaft is even 100meters deep instead of limiting the use of ropes to just 30meters, so this increase later the risk of collapse,” he said.

The fate of the five miners remains unknown but Mines and Mining Development Minister, Honourable Chitando promised to expedite rescue operations.

“We are hopeful that the miners are still alive and will provide the necessary support to ensure the success of those rescue operations,” he said.

Mashonaland West acting police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Ian Kohwera confirmed a rescue mission involving a multi-sectoral team had, up to this week Tuesday, failed to make meaningful headway towards rescuing the trapped miners, let alone finding them alive.

“The rescue efforts are still in progress but up to now, none of the trapped miners has been rescued,” said Kohwera Tuesday.

The incident happened at Task Mine in Chegutu at around 4:30pm.

Zimbabwe Mining Federation President Henrietta Rushwaya appealed for government to mechanise mining operations of small-scale players to reduce the prevalence of accidents.

“We need what is happening in the agricultural to also take place in mining where farmers are being equipped. Our own miners need equipment so that they conduct operations safely,” she said.

The small-scale mining sector has been rocked by safety issues with over ten people have lost their lives at Battlefields Mine in Kadoma last year.

Former First Lady Slapped With US Sanctions | FULL TEXT.

Former First Lady of The Gambia Sanctioned for Supporting the Former President’s Corruption
Press Statement

Michael R. Pompeo (pictured), Secretary of State
September 15, 2020

Yesterday, the United States imposed economic sanctions on Zineb Souma Yahya Jammeh, the former first lady of The Gambia. Zineb Jammeh is believed to control many of the overseas assets of her husband, Yahya Jammeh, the notoriously corrupt former leader of The Gambia, who was sanctioned by the Department of the Treasury in 2017. In addition, the State Department designated Zineb Jammeh in December 2018 under Section 7031(c) of the annual appropriations bill as an immediate family member of Yahya Jammeh, who was concurrently designated for his involvement in significant corruption. Their children are also ineligible for entry into the United States as a result of the 2018 designation.

Zineb Jammeh is designated for her role in materially assisting, sponsoring, or providing support to her husband. She utilized a charitable foundation and charities as cover to facilitate the illicit transfer of funds to her husband.

This action designates Zineb Jammeh pursuant to Executive Order (E.O.) 13818, which builds upon and implements the Global Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act. The United States uses economic sanctions to promote accountability for those who assist or facilitate the corruption carried out by those like Yahya Jammeh, who abuse their positions of power for their own personal gain.

Police Out To Fish Out CIO Vehicles Moving Around With No Number Plates In Blitz

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) on Tuesday issued a statement advising motorists that all vehicles moving on the roads without number plates will be impounded.

Members of the dreaded CIO are well known for driving around in vehicles with no registration plates. These have been used in several abductions and illegal arrests.

Below is the statement in full:

UPDATE ON POLICE WARNING ON VEHICLES WITH NO REGISTRATION PLATES

Reference is made to the statement issued on 8th September 2020 with regards to vehicles moving around without number plates.

The Secretary for Transport and Infrastructure has formally advised the police that there are adequate stocks of number plates but motorists are reluctant to acquire them, thereby posing a security risk on the roads.

In this regard, the police will impound all vehicles moving on the roads without number plates.

There is no justification for any motorist to drive vehicles on the road without number plates.

Motorists are urged to cooperate and if there are any challenges, they should approach the relevant authorities.

Police Commanders have been directed to ensure that only vehicles with number plates are allowed passage at roadblocks, checkpoints and other security points.

Members of the public should take this warning seriously and contribute towards the maintenance of law and order on the roads.

“Focus Your Attention On Matters Affecting South Africans,” ZANU PF Blasts ANC, Divorce Looming As ANC Courts Chamisa.

State Media

THE South African ruling party, the ANC, should not abuse its fraternal relations with Zanu PF to poke its nose in the country’s internal affairs, but should focus on multiple problems affecting that country such as factionalism and inequalities, the ruling party has said.

This comes as the ANC is said to have taken an unprecedented step of seeking to meet opposition parties and civic organisations in the country in a move that has been pooh-poohed by experts as unprecedented and undiplomatic, and which also smacks of the misinformed belief that Zimbabwe is South Africa’s province.

Zanu PF Secretary for Administration Dr Obert Mpofu said as far as the ruling party is concerned the purported return of the ANC delegation was not discussed at the recently held frank and brutal meeting where Zimbabwe stamped its sovereignty.

“The post inter-party dialogue feedback by the ANC affirms the genuine outcome of our dialogue. In light of the expressed revolutionary collegiality underscored in the ANC statement, as ZANU PF we take it upon ourselves to honour the resolutions of our bilateral talks. As a liberation party we find more comfort in strengthened cordial links with revolutionary sister-establishments in the SADC.

“This further dovetails with our political dialogue standpoint outlined as a cardinal preamble of the Second Republic’s engagement and re-engagement principle. The major diplomatic score of our September 9 party-to-party dialogue reinforces Afro-centred designs of political mediation.

“In the process, we are grateful that the attempts to decimate ZANU PF’s heartfelt allegiance to the aspirations of the people have been arrested by the solidarity which the ANC has rendered”.

Zanu PF Director for Information and Publicity, Tafadzwa Mugwadi hinted in a statement that the South African delegation, that came to Zimbabwe was pushing a factional agenda and its latest antics are meant to save face.

“It is unfortunate, but we find it imperative to inform our sister revolutionary party, the ANC to focus their attention on matters affecting South Africans rather than attempt to experiment attention seeking gimmicks in the name of our stable nation and our peaceful people.

“For the record, there was no deliberation nor agreement on them coming back to meet anyone over the issues we discussed. It is unprecedented in the history of our fraternal relations as revolutionary parties for the ANC to seek to verify our submissions through puppet movements. Just imagine a ZANU PF delegation forcing itself to engage renegade movements like DA, EFF or Afrikaner organisations to verify and ascertain whether the ANC is correct or not,” said Mugwadi.

GMB Supervisor And Social Welfare Official Connive To Steal Four Tonnes Of Maize From Children’s Home

State Media

GRAIN Marketing Board (GMB) Binga depot supervisor and a clerk have been arrested together with the district’s social welfare officer after they allegedly stole nearly four tonnes of drought relief maize from the depot.

Zebron Hungwe the supervisor and the clerk, Gladys Mugande, allegedly connived with Regret Mudungwe, the Binga District Social Welfare officer to forge invoices which they used to divert 74 by 50kg bags of maize from the depot to an unknown destination.

The three claimed that they had delivered the maize to Sunrise Children’s Home at Binga Centre and Kabwe Children’s Home in Pashu within the district before investigations showed that the maize was stolen.

It is alleged that the trio forged invoices purporting that they had given 32 bags of maize to Sunrise Children’s Home and 46 bags to Kabwe Children’s Home.

The two homes were entitled to monthly allocations of four bags and seven bags respectively for their day to day feeding of vulnerable children under the Government drought relief programme.

Social Welfare department is responsible for distributing drought relief food comprising grain and rice among other things on behalf of Government and all are mostly stocked at GMB depots.

Hungwe, Mugande and Mudungwe were not formally charged with a count of fraud and theft of trust property each when they appeared before Binga resident magistrate Mr Urgent Vundla.

The trio was released on $1 500 bail each and remanded to next week Wednesday. They were ordered not to interfere with witnesses and to report once every fortnight to police in Binga as part of their bail conditions.

Prosecuting, Mr Quiet Mpofu said the trio committed the crimes between July and last week when GMB regional security officer based in Kwekwe Mr Bonface Mabhaudi discovered the anomaly.

“During the period extending from July to September and at GMB Binga depot, the three accused persons connived and issued out dispatch documents purporting to account for maize issued to Sunrise Children’s Home and Kabwe Children’s Home,” said Mr Mpofu.

Mr Mabhaudi visited Sunrise Children’s Home for investigations and established that no such delivery of maize had been made.

The home has a monthly allocation of four bags of maize which its authorities confirmed receiving for the month of August as opposed to 32 bags as alleged through the forged invoices.

Kabwe Children’s Home has a monthly allocation of seven bags of maize contrary to 46 indicated in the fraudulent records by the trio.

The maize was meant to feed children at the two children’s homes under the drought relief programme targeting the vulnerable.

The offence came to light when GMB security discovered the anomaly and effected investigations leading to arrest of Hungwe, Mugande and Mudungwe last week.

The total value of the stolen maize has not been given while investigations are underway amid suspicions the crime may have been going on for a long time thereby defrauding Government and depriving needy people of food.

Temba Mliswa Says Uninterrupted Power Supply Was Not A Fortune Chasi Factor But Efforts Of Reinstated Sydney Gata

Paul Nyathi
Norton member of parliament Temba Mliswa has rubbished widespread accolades on former Minister of Energy Fortune Chasi claiming that he does not deserve the praises he is getting for efficiently running the provision of electricity in the country.
According to Mliswa, the accolades must be directed at corruption linked reinstated ZESA boss Sydney Gata.
Gata is a known in law of President Emmerson Mnangagwa who is also a brother to Mliswa.
Mnangagwa on Tuesday reinstated Gata who was suspended by Chasi on corruption charges before Mnangagwa recalled him from being Energy Minister. Analysts linked Chasi’s dismissal to his move to suspend Gata.
Wrote Mliswa on Twitter while celebrating the reinstatement of his in law:
Dr. Gata has been instrumental in ensuring uninterrupted power supply. We await the outcome of the investigations….

Police Spend The Night Watching Over Joanna Mamombe In Hospital

Paul Nyathi

Police officers spent the night at the Borrowdale Half Way Health facility watching over MDC-Alliance member Joana Mamombe who was yesterday issued with a warrant of arrest for failing to attend court as she is admitted at the health centre.

Mamombe failed to attend court for trial on charges of faking her abduction in May, with her lawyer saying she was hospitalised at the Harare health centre receiving treatment for anxiety disorder.

The court claimed that her lawyer failed to produce the required doctor’s certificate and admission records, hence the warrant.

Last night, police officers from the Law and Order section were at Borrowdale Halfway House where Mamombe is hospitalised and while they said they had not served the warrant, they were maintaining an unexplained police presence at the hospital.

Mamombe’s lawyer, Mr Jeremiah Bamu, was also present to monitor his client and see if the police would serve the warrant.

Lawyer Mr Alec Muchadehama had told Harare magistrate Mrs Bianca Makwande at the court in the morning that Mamombe could not attend court as she was admitted at Borrowdale Halfway House.

But no documentation was presented from the doctor nor proof that she was an in-patient, both of which the magistrate wanted as a matter of routine.

She is jointly charged with other MDC-Alliance members Netsai Marova and Cecilia Chimbiri, who did come to court and were ordered to return on September 29 for trial.

Mr Muchadehama applied for a postponement of the trial saying the defence wanted time to allow Mamombe to heal and be fit to stand trial.

“The first accused (Mamombe) is unable to attend court today because on September 4 she was taken ill suffering from what the doctors described as anxiety disorder.

“She is currently admitted at Borrowdale Halfway House where her condition is being managed by a doctor. The doctor advised that she is unable to attend trial,” he told the court.

Mr Muchadehama said Mamombe was not in wilful default and the defence had arranged for Dr Fungisai Mazhandu to testify on her condition in court.

He said they wrote a letter on September 7 notifying the court of Mamombe’s condition, which also prompted them to seek variation of her bail reporting conditions. The court relaxed Mamombe’s bail conditions following the notification.

State counsel, Mr Michael Reza, opposed to the application for postponement of trial saying there was no documentary evidence from the doctor to prove that Mamombe was admitted and receiving treatment.

The letter last week only referred to reporting conditions and spoke nothing about her ability to attend trial.

The court claimed that the medical report which was filed in the record does not show where Mamombe was admitted.

Mnangagwa Says He Has Made His Late Parents Happy.

Paul Nyathi

Emmerson Mnangagwa, who turned 78 yesterday says his father’s wish was just to see him able to speak in English with the white people.

“I feel very happy that the Lord above, God has mercy. He has allowed me to grow by another year, from 77 to 78.

“My parents taught me differently. My father always wanted me to go to school, become a lawyer and reply whites in English. That is what he wanted, because he felt that when they speak in English and had to be translated, he did not feel confident that the translation was correct.

“So he felt that I must go to school, become a lawyer and reply whites in English.

“But for my mother, she was different.

“She wanted me to be a family person, be a farmer. She felt that there is nothing that keeps you solid as a family if you have a farm, cattle, goats and chickens.

“I have achieved both, for my father and mother,” Mnangagwa who is both a farmer and lawyer said.

Mnangagwa Orders Reinstatement Of ZESA Board

Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa

Zesa Holdings executive chairman Dr Sydney Gata and the rest of the Zesa board can now return to duty under a directive by President Mnangagwa pending finalisation of investigations after the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (Zaac) cleared him of wrongdoing in four of the six allegations he was facing.

Zacc is investigating the other two allegations against Dr Gata and allegations against board members.

Minister of Energy and Power Development Zhemu Soda now has to examine corporate governance issues at Zesa that were raised by Zacc and recommend action.

On August 6, the entire Zesa Holdings board, including Dr Gata, was suspended by the President with Zacc given four weeks to conclude investigations into corruption allegations against the chairman and the board.

That interim report was submitted on September 4 and has been studied by the President.

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda announced the return of the board in a statement yesterday.

“His Excellency the President, being cognisant of the fact that Zesa is at the epicentre of the economic activity of the nation and that it would not be desirable for this entity to operate below optimal efficiency due to lack of leadership at its helm, has directed as follows:

The executive chairman of Zesa, Dr S Gata, while investigations are on-going, be allowed to carry on his responsibility as executive chairman;

That the Minister of Energy and Power Development, Zhemu Soda, should examine corporate governance issues that have been raised in the Zacc interim report and present his recommendations on the same to His Excellency the President by November 30, 2020.-The Herald

Central Registry Resumes Operations As Government Relaxes Lockdown Restrictions

Monica Mutsvangwa

Inter-city public transport will now resume under strict health guidelines following the reopening of examination classes in schools and the resumption of domestic tourism, but operators of long-distance buses need to re-register and vehicles will be rechecked.

Cabinet yesterday also approved the reopening of the Central Registry for the issuance of birth certificates, national registration and passports, but new rules and times will be in place to avoid long queues and the risk of Covid-19 infection.

Inter-city travel was suspended when the national lockdown started on March 31 to contain the spread of Covid-19 infections.

However, yesterday Cabinet approved proposals for the return of long-distance buses but under strict Covid-19 preventative guidelines informed by the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Despite the continued easing of restrictions, Cabinet reiterated that Zimbabwe was not out of the woods yet in its fight against the pandemic which has so far infected more than 7 000 people, killing more than 200.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Senator Monica Mutsvangwa announced the latest loosening of the regulations in Harare last night after the Cabinet meeting.

“Cabinet further approved the resumption of inter-city travel to facilitate the smooth movement of examination candidates, citizens and visitors.

“Transporters who wish to ferry passengers for inter-city travel should register with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development to ensure that they strictly comply with standard operating procedures for their sector which are compliant to the WHO guidelines and all Covid-19 regulations. In support of this service, the Vehicle Inspection Department (VID) should also resume its services.”

Minister Mutsvangwa said following the resumption of domestic tourism, employees in the sector should comply with prescribed Covid-19 regulations.

In terms of testing in the tourism sector, only international travellers were required to provide a negative PCR Covid-19 certificate issued 48 hours before departure for Zimbabwe. -The Herald

Government Extends Registration Period For November Exams

THE Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (Zimsec) has extended the registration period for November 2020 Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations to cater for pupils and schools that failed to do the process due to different reasons because of the Covid-19-induced lockdown.

This is the second time that Zimsec has extended the registration process after doing so in April.

Zimsec says the examinations are going ahead with the council having already completed the printing of Grade 7 examination material.

Marking of the June examination is starting this week with results expected before the November examinations commence. No late registration fees would be charged to candidates and centres.

The provision is in accordance with Government’s announcement that all potential candidates will access the 2020 examinations.

In an interview yesterday, Zimsec board chairperson Professor Eddie Mwenje said:

“The registration will start on the September 28 once they open schools and then it will close of October 2.

Just like we said the rationale for this is that you know some of the students could not travel to register during the lockdown period. And also, because schools were closed and some people could not travel from here to there and also some could not get their registration done using the electronic system.-Chronicle

Woman Scalds Husband With Cooking Oil

Cooking oil

A Redcliff man is lucky to be alive after his wife scalded him with cooking oil following a misunderstanding over gumboots.

Mr Benny Chamunorwa (30) of Simbi Park in Redcliff was attacked by his wife, Esther Mugwanyi (26), who poured hot cooking oil and porridge over him after an argument.

Chamunorwa was admitted to Kwekwe General Hospital where he was treated and later discharged.

For the offence, Mugwanyi was arraigned before Kwekwe Magistrate Mrs Florence Nago facing charges of contravening the Domestic Violence Act. She was remanded in custody to September 21.

Prosecuting, Ms Ethel Bhumure told the court that on August 28 at around 7PM, a woman Mr Chamunorwa owed money came to the couple’s residence, 4045 Simbi Park in Redcliff, asking him to settle the debt.

Mr Chamunorwa then told her that he did not have any money to pay the debt but offered to give her a pair of gumboots as payment.

The woman accepted the offer and was given the gumboots and went away.

However, this did not go down well with Mugwanyi who confronted her husband over the matter.- Chronicle

Khupe expelled the Mayor of Gwanda and recalled three Beitbridge Councilliors.

Khupe also recalled 11 Harare Councillors.According to MDC Alliance sources Khupe is targeting councillors in Bulawayo.

In a statement the MDC Alliance said:

As #Recallgate continues, Khupe has unlawfully expelled the Mayor of Gwanda and three Beitbridge Councillors including Mayor Morgan Ncube.

Not only will this cost taxpayers over US$18 million that should go to service delivery, she has no authority to usurp the will of the people as her court order expired.

We will fight back #politically.

Citizens Exert Pressure On Ramaphosa To Resolve Zim Crisis

President Cyril Ramaphosa

Farai Dziva|Pressure groups are pushing for the immediate intervention of the AU in the deepening crisis in Zimbabwe.

The Zimbabwean Citizens Coalition in South Africa has urged both President Cyril Ramaphosa’s government and the African Union to condemn the abduction, torture and imprisonment of activists, journalists and government critics in Zimbabwe.

“As the chair of the African Union, South Africa must take a firm stance and condemn what is happening in Zimbabwe.

The AU represents the continent, and we need continental support,” said Tafirenyika Muzarugwi of Zimbabwean Citizens Coalition.

The Durban-based Zimbabwe Solidarity Movement’s Tsungai Jani has also bemoaned the widening crackdown on dissenting voices by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.

He said Zimbabweans were foolish to celebrate the ouster of the late Robert Mugabe, then President in 2017 because the repressive State apparatus is still in place.

Said Jani:
“You never expect this to happen in a so-called democratic country. When Robert Mugabe was ousted out of office, we foolishly rejoiced only to realise that he was never the only bad guy, but it was a systemic issue. At the end of the day, Zanu-PF is still the ruling party.”

MDC Alliance Denounces Torture Of Hon Sikhala

Farai Dziva|The MDC Alliance(Namibia Branch) has called for the immediate and unconditional release of party vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala.

Sikhala has complained of being tortured by State agents.

See statement below:

15 SEPTEMBER 2020

MDC ALLIANCE NAMIBIA DISTRICT ENRAGED BY THE INCESSANT INCARCERATION AND TORTURE OF THEIR POLITICAL DYNAMO, JOB SAROWIWA SIKHALA AT CHIKURUBI MAXIMUM PRISON.

As Mdc Alliance Namibia, we are furious, vexed, infuriated, and absolutely enraged by the perpetual persecution of our innocent vibrant leader Vice-Chairperson, Hon Job Wiwa Sikhala. Our ardent social democrat was arrested yester month and charged with inciting violence in connection with July 31st protests against Zanupf’s senseless and stinking corruption.

According to his legal team, our firebrand leader has complained that the Zanupf security agents are terrorising and demonising him everyday and the abuse even extending to some officials who should protect the rights of the detained persons. We demand his immediate and unconditional release because calling for peaceful demonstrations against against belly politicians is a Constitutional right.

Moreover, his clarion call for action against Zanupf shenanigans is a moral obligation for all right-minded citizens.

The rights to freedom of expression, association, organisation and petition are provided by the supreme law of the motherland.

Job Wiwa Sikhala has the right enshrined in the constitution to mobilise the people as a leader in the national democratic revolution.

No court of law can snatch his democratic rights. The state is now afraid of Wiwa’s political prowess to lure and lift the level of national consciousness in our unsuspecting citizenry. We are quite aware of the attempt to create an authoritarian environment in Zimbabwe but that we shall resist using all our organs.

Moreso, Mdc Alliance Namibia strongly urges all social democrats to give solidarity to our foot soldier.

All Zimbabweans around the globe must pent-up their outrage demanding the immediate and unconditional release of our leader. Those in Zimbabwe, lets flood the courts and demonstrate our quest for the freedom of Wiwa and all other prisoners of conscience who are suffering to liberate us from Zanupf terrorists.

In the diaspora, lets seriously picket at Zimbabwe embassies across the globe demanding the delay of justice for Wiwa Sikhala and other victims of Bornapatism.

As Mdc Alliance Namibia, we shall exhaust all constitutional mechanisms to defend those who are ready to confront thieves that are consuming on behalf of the hungry citizens.

The irony here is that the innocent citizens are imprisoned while Obadiah Moyo who looted 60million US$ enjoyed colonial privileges of trial without detention. Zimbabweans must now offer support to Sikhala and others so that we can win against Zanupf looting and dictatorship.

Bail is a right in the constitution, it is quite horrible that those who steal our wealth are automatically given bail because they are part of the thieving racket in Zanupf. The denial or delay to bail out our leader by the Supreme Court yesterday symbolises state capture of the judiciary. Our leader had been arrested 64 times, he did not abscond any hearing hence a politicised denial of bail is apparent.

In a nutshell, Mdc Alliance Namibia objects the attempt by politically inept Zanupf to create a new Animal Farm in Zimbabwe where some animals are more equal than others. We demand justice to our political dynamo, Job SaroWiwa Sikhala.

Protests against demonisation and soldierisation of the state are legitimate and constitutional.

Chivhu Student Ventures Into Pr*stitution To Raise School Fees

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

NATIONAL NEWS

An 18-year-old female Advanced Level student from Chivhu says she has turned to prostitution to raise school fees for her final term and money for university.

Mercy (not real name), told Health Times that she completed her Ordinary Level studies in 2018 in Chivhu and passed 10 subjects including Mathematics, English, and science subjects.

When coronavirus forced the closure of schools in March, Mercy came to Harare to live with her unemployed sister.

Mercy thought she could raise fees and enrol for extra lessons since she will be writing her final ‘A’ Level exams later this year.

However, her mother lost her reliable source of livelihood – vending – after the government imposed an indefinite lockdown to curb the spread of the coronavirus. Said Mercy:

I am from Chivhu but these days I live with my sister here in Harare. My mother’s vending business has been bad, she can no longer afford to pay for my fees. Even food, she can’t afford to feed us.

I was left with no option, I wanted money for food, school fees and to raise money for University as well.

The only easy option I found was to get into sex work since almost every other avenue seem to have been closed by the coronavirus.

I will be writing my final examinations this year and I am optimistic that I am going to pass.

I also want to go for extra lessons since I am towards writing my final examinations this year and unfortunately, I have no one to assist me financially at the moment.

Mercy is afraid that she may contract HIV and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs) in the process as some of her clients demand unsafe sex.

She is planning to return to Chivhu on September 16.

She said her first term fees were pegged at ZWL$1 210 but the new fees structure for the final term has not been shared as yet.-Health Times

Attorney General Summoned To Court Over Failure To Implement Devolution

JUDGE SUMMONS AG MACHAYA TO COURT OVER DEVOLUTION

ATTORNEY-GENERAL (AG) Advocate Prince Machaya has been summoned to appear in court on Tuesday 15 September 2020 and explain himself on government’s delays in acceding to a court application filed by water rights campaigners, a residents association and an opposition legislator demanding the enactment of devolution laws.

High Court Judge Justice Edith Mushore issued the order on Thursday 10 September 2020 while presiding over the hearing of a court application filed by Community Water Alliance Trust (CWAT), Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA) and Harare North constituency legislator Hon. Allan Markham seeking an order to compel Local Government, Rural and Urban Development Minister Hon. July Moyo, Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Hon Ziyambi Ziyambi and Finance and Economic Development Minister Mthuli Ncube to enact laws that are necessary to actualise provisions of Chapter 14 of the Constitution, which provides for the enactment of devolution laws.

In court, the respondents, who were represented by a law officer in the AG’s Office only identified as Sigora, had failed to make a commitment to settle for the order sought by CWAT, CHRA and Hon. Markham leaving Justice Mushore to note that the law officer had been unfairly exposed by Advocate Machaya.

Although the respondents had attempted to argue that it is not the government’s duty to enact laws but the duty of Parliament, CWAT, CHRA and Hon. Markham argued that the constitutional obligation of initiating laws lies with government through Cabinet as spelt out in the Constitution.

In their application, CWAT, CHRA and Markham, who are represented by Tendai Biti of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, want the High Court to compel the respondents to enact the laws envisaged in Chapter 14 of the Constitution and Section 301 of the Constitution actualising and bringing in devolution.

CWAT, CHRA and Markham argued that the respondents have got powers of bringing one omnibus Bill or they can split their obligations into two or three Bills and within four months of the granting of a court order they should cause the gazetting of the Bill or Bills necessary to give effect to provisions of Chapter 14 of the Constitution and Section 301 of the Constitution.

CWAT, CHRA and Hon. Markham also want the High Court to declare the actions of Hon. Moyo in allocating ZW$400 million in 2019 and ZW$6 billion in 2020 using a formula only known to himself to different local authorities in Zimbabwe to be declared unlawful and in breach of the Constitution.

The applicants want the allocations by Hon. Moyo to be declared a nullity because they were done in the absence of a legal framework to set up devolution and in the absence of metropolitan and provincial councils.

CWAT, CHRA and Hon. Markham argued that the High Court has a right to enforce compliance and performance with the constitutional obligation as provided in Section 324 of the Constitution, which provides that all constitutional obligations must be performed diligently and without delay.

FULL TEXT- “ANC Welcomes Zanu Pf’s Approach On Engaging With Opposition And Other Stakeholders”

The African National Congress delegation led by the Secretary-General Cde Ace Magashule came back from a successful mission of the bilateral engagement with Zanu PF.

The delegation on Monday the 14th of September, briefed the National Officials of the bilateral engagements with Zanu PF, which were characterized as cordial and successful.

The ANC welcomes and concurs with the comments made by the ZANU PF Secretary of Administration, Comrade Obert Mpofu that the recent engagement between the ANC and ZANU PF was both frank and constructive, conducted in the fraternal spirit of two Liberation Movements.

As such we remain committed to extending the space for political dialogue with a view of advancing the social, political and economic interests of the people of Zimbabwe and South Africa in the context of advancing African unity, and the continuing fight for political and economic emancipation.

The ANC therefore warmly welcomes the constructive approach of ZANU PF with regards to the ANC meeting with other stakeholders, opposition parties, and civil society organizations in Zimbabwe.

In this regard, it was agreed that the ANC will in the foreseeable future return to Zimbabwe in order to proceed with these envisaged meetings.

The ANC furthermore welcomes the joint commitment between the ANC and ZANU PF as Liberation Movements to upholding human rights, in the context of what we fought for during the struggle against apartheid and colonialism.

Our joint engagement on and commitment to the advancement and protection of human rights always remains paramount in the context of acknowledging and upholding our respective countries as sovereign, which cannot be dictated to.

We do so while respecting freedom of association, freedom of speech, and all the basic universal freedoms.

The ANC agrees that the driving force of our engagements to address the challenges we are faced with must always be the advancement of the wellbeing of our people who continue to be marginalized, jobless and poor, as a consequence of the legacy of colonialism, and the continuing impact of neo-colonialism and imperialism.

As the ANC we would like to appreciate the success of our delegation mission of national interest to Zimbabwe with both hands because a successful and prosperous Zimbabwe as our neighbour is good for South Africa, the SADC region and our beloved continent Africa.

We hope and trust that the positive results of our consultation will go a long way in ensuring regional stability and growth in the two countries.

Finally, is that in our quest to achieve this mission, we travelled in an unusual manner and profusely humble ourselves where we went wrong during the lockdown and will reimburse the government for the costs incurred on behalf of our delegation.

Our delegation is under quarantine in line with our lockdown regulations.

Growing Authoritarianism Prompts South African Delegation Visit To Zimbabwe

By Prince Njagu- A delegation from South Africa’s, African National Congress (ANC) visited Zimbabwe on a fact-finding mission and try to map a way forward in mediating dialogue and mend relations between the two main opposition political parties, MDC-A and ZANU PF.

The MDC-A has for years, raised concerns over the authoritarian rule of ZANU PF in the country; even way before Emmerson Mnangagwa was voted into office eight months later in 2018 after the dethroning of his predecessor Robert Mugabe in a military led coup d’état.

The situation has now intensified as the number of abductions, torture and human right abuse cases have astoundingly increased this year.

The ANC delegation, led by their secretary general, Ace Magashule, said the problems in Zimbabwe were just but “challenges “and not a “crisis”.

According to many Magashule is downplaying the situation in the country; similarly, to what happened in 2008 when Thambo Mbeki mediated dialogues in the same country.

Magashule sentiments contradict what SACP’s first deputy secretary Solly Mapaila said, as he was hitting hard on the current state of governance in Zimbabwe.

During a virtual media briefing in a post central committee meeting, Mapaila raised concerns on the “growing authoritarianism” in Zimbabwe.

“There is growing authoritarianism in Zimbabwe, which we reject with the contempt it deserves,” said Mapaila.

The intervention by ANC in Zimbabwean politics has received mixed feelings, but is still a welcomed gesture; but the question still goes down to if it will yield any positive results?

In 2008 when Thambo Mbeki was still president of South Africa, he made a historical visit to Zimbabwe and set down with the major political players. Dialogue was conducted between the late Robert Mugabe and Morgan Tsvangirai, with promises being made, but no fruitful results yielding.

The visit from South Africa’s ANC is a welcomed gesture, but more needs to be done in order to reduce the friction between the main opposition, MDC Alliance and ZANU PF.

Concerns have been raised as an announcement that Thokozani Khupe will be sworn in as the leader of the main opposition by Emmerson Mnagagwa was made. This further intensifies the rift within the country, as Khupe contested against the political party which she now is leading following a questionable court ruling which made her president.

MDC-A have questioned the logic behind, the endorsement of Khupe as the president of a political party that she contested against in the 2018 elections and this issue has sparked debate over the fairness in the Zimbabwe legal system.

Recognition of Khupe as the leader of the main opposition is clear confirmation that the court ruling which made her the leader of MDC was just but a ZANU PF project which was meant to destabilise the MDC-A.

MDC Alliance Members of Parliament and councillors who are not aligned to Khupe are being recalled from office, further escalating the bad relations between the two main political parties in the country.

An ANC intervention will do little, if not nothing in as far as rebuilding the political spectrum in Zimbabwe.

The MDC Alliance has been contesting the outcome of the 2018 presidential elections, and they have always pointed out to the so many irregularities within the electoral system in the country. A fact finding mission from ANC is welcome, but more needs to be done to address the crisis in Zimbabwe.

Govt Opens Up Intercity Travel, VID And Registry Offices

Zimbabwe’s cabinet has lifted restrictions on inter city travel as the country continues to gradually re-open the economy, a Cabinet minister said on Tuesday.

The re-opening follows a six month break as Zimbabwe joined the world in battling with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Zimbabwe has 7531 COVID-19 cases with 224 deaths to date.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister , Monica Mutsvangwa told a post Cabinet media briefing that the decision to approve the resumption of of inter-city travel was also meant to facilitate smooth movement of examination candidates, citizens and visitors.

“Transporters who wish to ferry passengers should register with the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development to ensure that they strictly comply with Standard Operating Procedures for their sector which are compliant to the WHO guidelines and all COVID-19 regulations. In support of this service, the Vehicle Inspection Department should also resume its services.“ said Mutsvangwa.

Government also announced the re-opening of the Central Registry to allow the issuance of birth certificates and travel documents.

“ Cabinet has approved that the Central Registry should reopen and offer services, such as the issuance of births and death certificates, national registrations as well as passports.

“Measures are being put in place to ensure that operations at Central Registry offices which are usually characterized by overcrowding are in line with the Ministry of Health and Child Care and WHO protocols in order to curtail the transmission of COVID-19. Members of the public will be informed on the timelines for accessing the critical services,” she said.

Cabinet further authorised the partial reopening of the Department of Immigration, Client Service Centre for the purpose of processing short-term investor work and student permits, issue visas at ports of entry and resume enforcement operations through the Compliance Section.

“The National Museums and Monuments of Zimbabwe will be opened to allow visitors access to National Monuments that include the National Heroes Acre and National History Museum.

“Cabinet reiterates that despite the measures taken today to further open up the economy, the threat from COVID-19 is still real and citizens should continue to religiously adhere to the COVID-19 containment measures,” said Mutsvangwa.

Fortune Chasi Gone, Mnangagwa Reinstates His Relative Sydney Gata At ZESA

Paul Nyathi

The government on Tuesday re-instated Zesa Holdings executive chairman Dr Sydney Gata after he was cleared on four of the six corruption charges that he was facing.

Dr Gata was suspended on August 6 this year to pave way for investigations by the Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission.

He was facing six acts of misconduct which included self-allocation of six vehicles for personal and family use, authorising expenditure of ZW$10 million for Christmas parties in Hwange and Kariba in 2019 without board approval as well as installing solar equipment at his residence using Zesa funds among others.

In a statement, chief secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda said Dr Gata would resume his duties while investigations into the two remaining allegations were being finalised.

“The interim report cleared Dr Gata of the first four allegations. With regards to the last two allegations, Zacc is yet to conclude its investigations,” he said.

“With regards to allegations against the board members, the interim report indicates that the investigations are still in progress,” he said.

Dr Sibanda said President Mnangagwa directed that Dr Gata be reinstated.

“His Excellency the President, being cognisant of the fact that Zesa is at the epicentre of the economic activity of the nation and that it would not be desirable for this entity to operate below optimal efficiency due to lack of leadership at its helm, has directed as follows:

“That the executive chairman of Zesa, Dr S Gata while investigations are on-going, be allowed to carry on his responsibility as executive chairman and that the board members also continue in their positions until the finalisation of the investigations,” he said.

President Mnangagwa also directed Energy Minister Zhemu Soda to examine corporate governance issues that were raised in the Zacc interim report and present his recommendations to him by November 30 this year.

Suspended Harare City Council town clerk Hosiah Chisango, director of housing and community services Addmore Nhekairo and suspended town planner, Samuel Nyabezi, have been freed on $50 000 bail.

In her ruling today, Harare magistrate Mrs Bianca Makwande ordered Chisango not to visit the Town House until October 5 to allow the finalisation of investigations.

Nhekairo and Nyabezi were ordered to continue following bail conditions imposed on other cases involving illegal sale of stands, which are pending before the court.

Chisango, Nhekairo and Nyabezi are being charged with criminal abuse of office, bribery and fraud.

Prosecutor Mr Michael Reza had opposed bail for the trio.

Teenage Girl Weeps Emotionally As Court Jails Her Boyfriend For Statutory Rape

A 14 year-old-girl from Lutumba area in Beitbridge last Friday burst into tears in court and begged a local magistrate not to jail her 20-year-old boyfriend who had been convicted of statutory rape.

Lovemore Mapanzure was said to have used his uncle’s house to be intimate with the minor for four days before she was rescued by police.

Beitbridge resident magistrate, Mr Tiyondepi Zhou, convicted Mapanzure on his own plea of guilty and sentenced him to 12 months imprisonment before conditionally suspending four months of the sentence for five years.

Prosecutor, Mr Tariro Makaya, told the court that Mapanzure proposed love to the teenager in December last year and she accepted.

On 29 March this year, the girl visited Mapanzure at his uncle’s homestead where they became intimate once.

The two stayed together for four days during which they were intimate at least once daily.

Police raided the homestead after the girl’s mother reported the case.

MDC Alliance Not Committing To Take Part In Upcoming By Elections

State Media

THE Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) has lifted the suspension of electoral activities, with immediate effect, paving way for the holding of the many Parliamentary and local council by-elections with the commission applying procedures to reduce the risk of Covid-19 infection.

In June, ZEC suspended electoral activities as part of measures to curb the spread of Covid-19.

The commission recently announced that there were 15 vacancies in Parliament that needed to be filled through by-elections following National Assembly recalls by the MDC-T.

While the proportional representation seats in the Assembly and the Senate vacancies are filled by direct nomination in a different process, the constituency seats and the vacancies in local authorities, with Harare City Council having the most, have to be filled by voters in by-elections

Some Parliamentarians and local councillors have also died and should be replaced through holding of by-elections.

In a statement ZEC chairperson, Justice Priscilla Chigumba said the lifting of the suspension on electoral activities is in line with the Covid-19 policy that has been adopted by the commission.

“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission would like to inform the public that it has lifted with immediate effect the suspension of electoral activities following measures taken by Government to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic. Electoral timelines for all the pending by-elections will be published in the press through notices in due course,” said Justice Chigumba.

“The lifting follows a cautionary observation of the pandemic’s trends and subsequent adoption of health safety measures including the drafting and operationalisation of a Covid-19 policy on electoral activities by the commission whose contents were open to stakeholders’ contribution. The Covid-19 policy on electoral activities which outlines how by-elections and other electoral activities will be conducted without exposing those involved to health risks is now on the ZEC website www.zec.org.zw for the public.”

In the health policy, members of the public will be allowed to bring their pens when coming to cast their votes.

ZEC will disinfect electoral materials such as pens for those who will not carry theirs. Mandatory temperature tests, wearing of masks and sanitisation of hands will be required for all people entering ZEC premises.

Zanu PF acting national spokesperson, Patrick Chinamasa said: “We will contest all vacancies in the by-elections with the aim of winning them to Zanu PF whether they are through recalls because of problems in the MDC-T or through deaths.”

MDC-T Secretary general Mr Douglas Mwonzora said: “Of course, we are going to be contesting elections.”

MDC-Alliance deputy national spokesperson, Mr Felix Mafa Sibanda, said the by-elections will not change anything if there are no reforms.

Zimbabwe Cannot Buy Covid-19 Test Kits And PPE But Is Ready To Squander Millions On Pointless By-elections

BY: Patrick Guramatunhu

SOURCE: zimbabwelight.blogspot.com

“The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) would like to inform the public that is has lifted with immediate effect the suspension of electoral activities with immediate effect the suspension of electoral activities following measures taken by the government to curb the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic,” reads the statement from ZEC.

“Electoral timelines for all pending by-elections will be published in the press through notices in due course.”

I strongly object to the holding of these by-elections for four reasons;

If you are not infuriated by foolishness of this Zanu PF regime, it can only be because you don’t comprehend the gravity of the situation and insanity of it all!

Neighbourhood Watch Policing Officers Beat Up A Man To Death

TWO members of the neighbourhood watch committee have been arrested together with a villager for allegedly beating up a man to death for intervening when they tried to apprehend his friend.

Matabeleland South provincial police spokesperson, Chief Inspector Philisani Ndebele confirmed the incident which occurred in Nyamime area in Filabusi. He said Wisdom Moyo and Terrence Maphosa who are both neighbourhood watch committee members and Nathan Dlamini all from Filabusi allegedly attacked Prince Maphosa on Wednesday last week and he later died on Monday while admitted to Mpilo Central Hospital.

“I can confirm that we recorded a murder case which occurred in Nyamime area in Filabusi. On 9 September a friend of the now deceased Prince Maphosa threw bricks and destroyed windows of a shop at Nyamime Business Centre. Moyo, Maphosa and Dlamini apprehended him and while they were on their way to the nearest police base Prince followed them and attacked them,” he said.

“Prince assisted his friend to escape and they fled from the neighbourhood watch committee members. Moyo, Terrence and Dlamini later pursued Prince and they assaulted him using unknown objects. Prince sustained serious injuries and was rushed to Filabusi District Hospital where he was further referred to Mpilo Hospital. Prince later died on Monday at Mpilo Hospital after succumbing to the injuries he sustained during the attack.”

Chief Insp Ndebele said the trio had since been arrested and they were assisting police with investigations. He urged members of the public to ensure that they cooperate with peace officers.

“People should cooperate with peace officers when they are carrying out their duties and not fight them. Neighbourhood watch committee members act with authority and should be given the respect that they deserve. If members of the public have a query over their arrest, they should make reports later. It’s unfortunate that we have lost a life in this incident,” he said.

ANC Concedes To Messing Up On Zim Trip Promises To Make Amends.

Times Live

The ANC has undertaken to reimburse the government for the costs incurred during its controversial use of an air force jet on a party-political mission to Zimbabwe last week after a public backlash.

The undertaking was contained in statement issued by ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule on Tuesday.

There was a public outcry last week after it emerged the ANC leader had led a party delegation to a meeting with Zanu-PF in Harare, and had been offered a lift on a state-owned jet by defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula.

President Cyril Ramaphosa has since asked for a report from Mapisa-Nqakula on the matter, which she submitted by Sunday.

The Sunday Times reported that department of home affairs had opened its own internal investigation relating to how the ANC delegation left the country while lockdown regulations prohibit travel across borders without special permission. It also reported that some members of the delegation did not follow lockdown rules as they failed to quarantine on their return to SA.

Magashule admitted on Tuesday that they had been in the wrong.

“In our quest to achieve this mission, we travelled in an unusual manner, and profusely humble ourselves where we went wrong during the lockdown. We will reimburse the government for the costs incurred on behalf of our delegation. Our delegation is under quarantine in line with lockdown regulations,” said Magashule.

The trip was meant for the ANC to meet their Zanu-PF counterparts over tensions in Zimbabwe.

Magashule said they gave a report back to ANC officials on Monday about the trip.

DA MP Kobus Marais said Ramaphosa had no option but to fire his defence minister after the ANC admitted to “shamelessly abusing an air force jet to travel to Zimbabwe to meet their Zanu-PF counterparts”.

“It is now patently clear that minister Mapisa-Nqakula wilfully allowed the ANC delegation to abuse state resources for her party’s political ends. This was a gross violation of her oath of office, a dereliction of duty and a complete disregard for ethical standards. She simply must go.”

The DA will lay a complaint with parliament’s ethics committee against the minister in this regard.

“Following pressure from the public and the DA, the ANC has not only admitted it abused state resources, but has also indicated the party would reimburse the government for the costs incurred on behalf of [its] delegation,” said the DA.

ANC ‘has track record of thievery’

“The DA will not allow this to happen behind closed doors. We call for the appointment of a panel of aviation experts to determine the full cost of the ANC’s trip to Zimbabwe, including the wear and tear on the aircraft and other associated costs. This information must be submitted to the auditor-general for full interrogation against departmental expenditure on the ANC flight.

“Given the ANC’s track record of thievery, the DA will not allow any stone to be left unturned.

“This repayment also does not absolve ANC secretary-general Ace Magashule and his fellow ANC members who were on the flight of any wrongdoing. The reality is there is still no clarity whether the transport minister Fikile Mbalula approved the delegation’s travel across the border as per level 2 lockdown regulations.

“Like many law-abiding citizens who have had to pay fines and be criminalised by the government during the lockdown for simply going surfing or taking a jog, so, too, must ANC members be held to account.

“The ANC has for days brazenly denied any wrongdoing, but mounting pressure has proved inescapable. The DA sees this as a huge victory for SA in holding the ANC to full account for its nefarious and thieving ways.”

Zim Dollar Gains For The Third Time Consecutively

The Zimbabwean dollar on Tuesday appreciated for the third straight week against the greenback, closing the week at $81.71.

Last week it traded at $82.70.

The lowest the local unit has traded against the United States dollar since it was floated in late June is $83.40.

It gained for the first time at the beginning of this month as the
exchange rate stabilised, with the market gaining confidence in the
foreign exchange auction system.

Previously, the exchange rate was fixed at $25 to the US dollar
leading to serious distortions in the market as the parallel market
was the main supplier of foreign currency to companies.

This saw the rate peaking at $120 on the parallel market before the
auction system was introduced.

The black market rate has since gone down to around $105.

At Tuesday’s auction, the highest rate on offer was $88 while the
lowest accepted rate was $75.

A total of US$21.17 million was allocated to a combined 248 bidders at both the main and the small to medium enterprises auction, with 22
bidders having been disqualified.

Foreign currency is allocated according to a set national priority list and more than half of the allotted amount was directed towards the purchase of raw materials for industry.

Chiredzi West: MDC Alliance Solidly Behind President Nelson Chamisa

President Chamisa

Chiredzi West MDC Alliance solidly behind President Nelson Chamisa

As MDC Alliance leader Mr Chidaushe donates cement and borehole equipment in Chivi North

15 September 2020

*Wezhira Munya and Tariro Kimberely Mamhende*

The Chiredzi West MDC Alliance structures have remain solidly behind President advocate Nelson Chamisa.

On Sunday 13th September 2020, Chiredzi West MDC Alliance structures held a highly subscribed meeting.

Chiredzi West MDC Alliance district chairperson Mr James Kampota said, “Chiredzi West district and general populace are supporting President Chamisa and MDC Alliance party. ”

He further state that, “We have rejected MDC T led by Khupe -Mudzuri-Komichi and Mwonzora. It is our view, that MDC T led by Khupe is Zanu PF proxy. They have been created by Zanu PF to destroy our MDC Alliance party led by President Nelson Chamisa.”

Kimberely Tariro Mamhende political analyst said, “The high numbers of MDC Alliance Chiredzi West structures who attended Sunday 13th September 2020 meeting proves beyond doubt that President Nelson Chamisa commands great grassroots support. In addition, it’s a sign that MDC T led by Khupe project has suffered still birth.”

Furthermore, political analyst Tariro Kimberley Mamhende said, “Currently, ten Chiredzi West MDC Alliance members including MDC Alliance National women assembly acting chairlady honourable Mugidho were arrested for demonstrating on 31 July 2020. The arrest of these MDC Alliance members is barbaric as demonstration is a right enshrined in the Zimbabwean constitution.”

Senator Misheck Marava MDC Alliance National member addressed the Chiredzi West structures said, “Thank you for coming in your numbers. We have come to inform you that MDC Alliance party led by our charismatic president Chamisa is intact and is growing.”

MDC National member Leader Matara said, “We want to give solidarity to our 10 Chiredzi West MDC Alliance members who were arrested on 31 July 2020. ZANU PF is persecuting MDC Alliance members through arresting them. Do not be intimidated. Remain strong.”

On the other hand, MDC Alliance National member Mrs Chakabuda stated that, “MDC T led by Khupe is using recalls as a strategy to intimidate our elected members of parliament, councillors, proportional representatives, senators and provincial council members. We are pleased to inform you that 97% of our 2018 elected officials have remained in support of MDC Alliance led by President Nelson Chamisa. We thank honourable Mugidho for standing with president Nelson Chamisa. Hon. Mugidho was recalled but she has remained resolute in supporting president Chamisa.”

Hon . Mugidho, MDC Alliance National women assembly acting chairlady said, “MDC T led by Khupe has been rejected in Chiredzi West. Yes, the MDC T Mudzuri faction leaders are always in Chiredzi West trying to recruit 2014 structures to vote for Mudzuri as president at their extraordinary congress. However, the 2014 structures have rejected them.”

Factionalism has greatly affected MDC T led by Khupe in Masvingo Province. The battle to control Masvingo Province have caused deep hatred between three factions namely: Mwonzora, Komichi and Mudzuri factions. Khupe faction has no support in Masvingo Province.

All Chiredzi West MDC Alliance councillors have pladged their support to president Chamisa and MDC Alliance party.

At this meeting MDC Alliance councillor Musingashari of ward 6 and councillor Chikonye of ward 7 who attended this meeting pledged their full support to president Chamisa despite threats for being recalled by MDC T led by Khupe.

In Chivi North, MDC Alliance provincial vice treasurer Mr Chidaushe donated cement and borehole equipment. There is a massive shortage of water for human and animal consumption in Chivi North. As a result, the donation of cement and borehole equipment will help Chivi North residents and animals to get adequate water.

MDC Alliance President Nelson Chamisa is on record encouraging MDC Alliance leaders to assist the communities to solve social, economic and political problems.

Citizens Pile Pressure On Ramaphosa To Act On Zim Crisis

Alois Bunjira’s Advice To Khama Billiat

Billiat

Alois Bunjira believes Khama Billiat needs to return to Mamelodi Sundowns to rediscover his top form.

The winger has had underwhelming performances since joining Kaizer Chiefs in 2018 and registered his worst record in a season in South Africa in the just-ended term.

Posting on Facebook, Bunjira thinks the only way Khama can top the list again is at Sundowns.

“After all has been said and done, I believe Khama Billiat should go back to Mamelodi Sundowns,” he said.

“Pitso Masimane loves Khama and has publicly said it many times. Sundowns play the kind of football that Khama fits into very well.

“In Peter Ndlovu, he had a big brother who saw it all and was guiding him. He never hid his brotherly love for Khama.

“For Khama to have such a great man like Peter as a fellow countryman at the club can only give a player that sense of security and belonging.”

Bunjira went on to claim that Sundowns owner Patrice Motsepe also loves to have the winger at the club.-Soccer 24

Government Speaks On Resumption Of Football Action

Kirsty Coventry

Minister of Sports Kirsty Coventry has revealed the government has given Zifa a set of guidelines that should be used in the resumption of football in the country.

The 2020 campaign is yet to start following the outbreak of coronavirus and clubs have not held training since March.

Speaking at a press conference on Monday, Coventry said the association would need to adopt a safe concept that will see the games played in a bio-bubble environment.

This means the season will have to get underway in a central location which is relatively isolated from the outside world to minimize the risk of the infection.

Zifa will discuss the proposal with its affiliates before responding this week.-Soccer 24

Latest On Real Madrid, Bale Rift

Gareth Bale

The weird relationship between Real Madrid and Gareth Bale has taken a new twist, with the Spanish champions totally sidelining the player from their activities.

The Welshman, who has had a frosty relationship with coach Zinedine Zidane to the point of being omitted from the match day squad on numerous occasions, arrived in Madrid five days ago after the international break, claiming to be carrying an injury.

Bale has not appeared in any of the team’s social media platforms, presumably because he is not training with the rest of his teammates ahead of their opening game against Real Sociedad.

That being said, midfielder Isco, who is working out in the same gym as the Welshman, has had his pictures posted on several occasions.

A visit on the club’s official store shows that Bale’s number 11 shirt is not on display, with those on display notably skipping from Luka Modric’s number 10 to Marcelo’s number 12.

Bale still has two years left on his contract but has publicly claimed that he tried to leave and the club blocked the move.-Soccer 24

Health Alert: What Are Trans Fats?

Two years into the World Health Organization’s (WHO) ambitious effort to eliminate industrially produced trans fats from the global food supply, the Organization reports that 58 countries so far have introduced laws that will protect 3.2 billion people from the harmful substance by the end of 2021. But more than 100 countries still need to take actions to remove these harmful substances from their food supplies.

Consumption of industrially produced trans fats is estimated to cause around 500,000 deaths per year due to coronary heart disease.

“In a time when the whole world is fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, we must make every effort to protect people’s health.

That must include taking all steps possible to prevent noncommunicable diseases that can make them more susceptible to the coronavirus, and cause premature death,” said WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. “Our goal of eliminating trans fats by 2023 must not be delayed.”

Fifteen countries account for approximately two thirds of the worldwide deaths linked to trans fat intake. Of these, four (Canada, Latvia, Slovenia, United States of America) have implemented WHO-recommended best-practice policies since 2017, either by setting mandatory limits for industrially produced trans fats to 2% of oils and fats in all foods or banning partially hydrogenated oils (PHO).

But the remaining 11 countries (Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, Ecuador, Egypt, India, Iran, Mexico, Nepal, Pakistan, Republic of Korea) still need to take urgent action.

The report highlights two encouraging trends. First, when countries do act, they overwhelmingly adopt best-practice policies rather than less restrictive ones. New policy measures passed and/or introduced in the past year in Brazil, Turkey and Nigeria all meet WHO’s criteria for best-practice policies.

Countries, such as India, that have previously implemented less restrictive measures, are now updating policies to align with best practice.

Second, regional regulations that set standards for multiple countries are becoming increasingly popular, emerging as a promising strategy for accelerating progress towards global elimination by 2023.

In 2019, the European Union passed a best-practice policy, and all 35 countries that are part of the WHO American Region/Pan American Health Organization unanimously approved a regional plan of action to eliminate industrially produced trans fats by 2025.

Together, these two regional initiatives have the potential to protect an additional 1 billion people in more than 50 countries who were not previously protected by trans fat regulations.

“With the global economic downturn, more than ever, countries are looking for best buys in public health,” said Dr Tom Frieden, President and CEO of Resolve to Save Lives. “Making food trans fat-free, saves lives and saves money, and, by preventing heart attacks, reduces the burden on health care facilities.”

Despite the encouraging progress, important disparities persist in policy coverage by region and country income level.

Most policy actions to date, including those passed in 2019 and 2020, have been in higher-income countries and in the WHO Regions of the Americas and Europe. Best-practice policies have been adopted by seven upper-middle-income countries and 33 high-income countries; no low-income or lower-middle-income countries have yet done so.

Industrially produced trans fats are contained in hardened vegetable fats, such as margarine and ghee, and are often present in snack food, baked foods, and fried foods.

Manufacturers often use them as they have a longer shelf life and are cheaper than other fats.

But healthier alternatives can be used that do not affect taste or cost of food.

Concerned Citizens Pile Pressure On Ramaphosa To Act On Zim Crisis

Mr Mnangagwa with President Ramaphosa

MDC Alliance Statement On Torture Of Hon Sikhala.

HWENDE CLARIFIES ON MAFUME RECALL

By A Correspondent- The MDC Deputy Treasurer Charlton Hwende has dismissed reports alleging that the newly elected Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume has been recalled.

Earlier on, sources privy to the development alleged that Mafume was recalled by his party PDP.

It was further revealed that the new Harare Mayor was recalled by a faction of the PDP led by Lucia Matibenga.

Posting on his twitter, Hwende said:

The Mayor of @cohsunshinecity has not been recalled he is in his office performing his civic duties that he was elected to do by people in Harare.”

Matibenga broke ranks with the Tendai Biti-led faction in 2017 following differences over joining the MDC Alliance ahead of the 2018 polls. At the time, Matibenga was party chairperson.

In an interview with ZimEye, Mafume however professed ignorance on the matter and said he knew nothing about the recall.

Said Mafume:

“Ask her (Matibenga) please. I have no idea what you are talking about.”

Matibenga was not picking up calls at the time of publishing.

“We Stand With The People”: Michael R. Pompeo, On International Day Of Democracy

In recognition of the International Day of Democracy on September 15, we reaffirm the right of every citizen to take part in the processes of democratic self-governance.  Democracies are accountable to their citizens.
They respect the Rule of Law, protect lives and property, and respect the freedoms, dignity, and equality of every person.

Democracy remains the aspiration of people all over the world because each of us yearns to be free.

From the time we are children, we instinctively assert our ability to self-govern, to make decisions that shape our lives.

As citizens, we understand that we must be free to engage others in debates over the wisdom of the decisions of leaders to whom we entrust the power to protect our lives, our property, and our freedoms.  And, as human beings, we know we cannot go it alone.

Democracies are inclusive communities of individuals who are free to work together to accomplish goals they have freely chosen, and they flourish because freedom unlocks the talents and creativity of all.

Today, the world reels from one of the greatest public health crises in modern times.  Democracies, authoritarian governments, and dictatorships are equally challenged by the coronavirus pandemic, but only democracies are free to debate openly how to respond.

Authoritarians of every stripe, meanwhile, remain true to form.  Their first priority is not public health, but the protection of their own power.  They refuse to answer hard questions.

They sow disinformation, scapegoat vulnerable groups, expand mass surveillance, and suspend the rule of law.  People suffer when their leaders are accountable only to themselves or to the parties they control.

Democracies, by contrast, thrive in times of adversity.  Because of freedom of expression and the equality of all persons before the law, citizens of democratic societies are able to confront public health problems together.

Individuals in democratic nations demand access to information so that they can protect themselves and others.  And societies that embrace equality before the law live out that belief by taking active steps to promote the full participation and protection of all people.

Democratic governance is far from perfect, but it certainly beats the alternatives.   Democratic societies respect human rights and are more peaceful, prosperous, and secure.  We stand with people everywhere who seek to live freely, safely, and with dignity under democratic governments

BREAKING- WARRANT OF ARREST FOR JOANA MAMOMBE

“Chamisa Needs Help”: Mwonzora Hits Back

By A Correspondent- MDC-T secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora says the level of intolerance being displayed by Nelson Chamisa was not only shocking but totally repugnant of modern dictates of common decency in leadership.

This follows attacks on him by the MDC Alliance leader at the burial of a party official over the weekend.

“I learnt with dismay the unprovoked utterances against my person attributed to Advocate Chamisa at the recent funeral service of the late Hon Miriam Mushayi,” Mwonzora said.

“The unfortunate diatribe against my person, characterised by the unsavoury name calling was not only unfortunate but regrettable given that this was coming from a man calling himself the people’s president.

“The level of intolerance displayed by the president of the Alliance party is not only shocking but totally repugnant of modern dictates of common decency in leadership.

“It is an affront to the progressive democratic tenets of modern politics.”

Addressing mourners during the late Mushayi’s church service, Chamisa described his former ally, ‘as a sell-out who was fighting an unwinnable petty agenda’.

For close to six months, Mwonzora, has been on a warpath, frustrating the operations of the MDC Alliance through recalls on MPs and councillors claiming they had ceased to be MDC-T members.

“I am really disappointed with his level of selfishness and that Mwonzora has sunk so low. He is claiming to defend the legacy of the late Morgan Tsvangirai by destroying what he (Tsvangirai) built. You claim you want to defend his legacy when you do not even know the origins of Tsvangirai,” Chamisa told mourners.

In response, Mwonzora said by choosing a funeral platform to spew hate, Chamisa was not only abusive of the grieving family but this was testimony of a man hurting from inside and in need of help.

“This behaviour, inimical of the late Robert Mugabe is not helpful to a society desperate for a new breeze of politics, free from hate and intolerance,” Mwonzora said.

“Zimbabwe yearns for a new political culture where rational disputation thrive and people can respectfully disagree without animosity against one another.

“The bitterness displayed by Advocate Chamisa does not promote the new society we envisage. It can only perpetuate acrimony and violence which has characterised our toxic political landscape since independence in 1980.

“This politics is not only retrogressive but archaic and unproductive. We must as political leaders free the new generation of Zimbabwe from this kind of politics.”

Mwonzora added, “Zimbabwe deserves a better leadership which focuses on issues than personalities.

“It is my wish to advance a developmental political agenda which will extricate our people from poverty and hunger.

“Together as Zimbabwe, we can achieve this in our lifetime. I call on my brother Nelson Chamisa to emulate this new political trajectory and make a difference to many a young man out there who look up to him for real change.”

The two former allies broke ranks on the day the Supreme Court ruled Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the opposition MDC-T.

Mwonzora quickly jumped ship and joined Thokozani Khupe who was declared interim president of the party.
