Manchester City Snatch Former Chelsea Defender

Manchester have completed a second summer signing following the arrival of former Chelsea defender Nathan Ake from relegated Bournemouth.

Ake is joining the Citizens a five-year deal for £41m. The centre-back passed his medical on Wednesday and signed terms.

Ake becomes City’s second signing of the summer following the arrival of winger Ferran Torres at the club from Valencia.

Speaking to the club’s website after the move, Ake said:
Coming here is a dream for me. This is a top side full of world-class players.

Everywhere you look in this squad there are big names with international pedigree.

Pep is a manager admired across the world – what he’s done in the game speaks for itself. The success he’s had is unbelievable and the style of football he plays really appeals to me.

I know I’m going to have to work hard to get into the side, but that’s what I’m here to do. I’ll do whatever I can to make an impact and help the team win silverware.

Manchester City director of football, Txiki Begiristain , believes Ake be a success at the Etihad- Sky Sports

EFF Blasts Mliswa

Farai Dziva|
South Africa’s vibrant opposition party, Economic Freedom Fighters, has described Norton MP Temba Mliswa as a hypocrite.

EFF has vowed it will not be silenced by Mliswa and the like-minded.

Mliswa argued:
“To my brother @Julius_S_Malema I say please allow us the room to deal with our issues whilst you focus on your own. I’m very much against abductions and am for constitutionalism and sincerely believe that as a country we can ride this rough patch out.”

However, EFF stated that at one point came to South Africa to plead for assistance to remove former President Robert Mugabe.

Responding to Mliswa’s remarks, Julius Malema’s deputy Shivambu wrote:
“Aren’t you the same @TembaMliswa who frequented our offices in Johannesburg pleading for assistance with the Zimbabwe when President RG and the G40 faction isolated you? Don’t change principles for convenience.

We will speak against Mnangagwa in the same way we spoke on Pres RG,” said Shivambu.

Malema also tweeted: “We call for the removal of the Zimbabwean Embassy in SA until they restore the human rights in that country.

Failure to do so, we will prevent any official from the Zimbabwean government from participating in any gathering in SA until they respect ordinary Zimbabweans.”

Defiant Malema Blasts Mnangagwa

Farai Dziva|Firebrand EFF commander Julius Malema has refused to be silenced by widespread criticism from Zanu PF honchos.

On Monday Zanu PF bigwigs took turns to attack the South African opposition leader for lambasting Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Malema blasted Mr Mnangagwa for violating human rights.

Speaking to SABC News on Tuesday, Malema described the Zanu PF leader as a sellout.

“I will not change my position, Mnangagwa is a sellout. I want to make it clear that the man should stop terrorising hapless citizens.

Mnangagwa has reversed the gains of the liberation struggle so he is a sellout.

In actual fact he is worse than President Robert Mugabe,” said Malema.

HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN ZIMBABWE: ONE SA URGES MINISTER PANDOR TO ISSUE A DEMARCHE ON ZIMBABWEAN AMBASSADOR DAVID HAMADZIRIPI

Dear Minister Pandor

I write to strongly urging that a demarche be Issued on Zimbabwean Ambassador David Hamadziripi by the South African government in fight of the flagrant human rights abuses by the ZANU-PF led government in Zimbabwe.

The purpose of issuing a demarche is to demand a full explanation from the ambassador os to the unfolding human rights crisis in Zimbabwe and o commitment to ending these atrocities at once.

Disturbing reports of violence, intimidation
torture and detention without trial being carried out by the Zimbabwean government against citizens, opposition voices and journaists cannot go unchallenged.

Following Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s national address in which he sought to blame “western powers” for the country’s current woes the people of Zimbabwe are left in fear and without answers.

South Africa cannot turn a bind eye to such atrocities. Quiet diplomacy allows injustices to continue unabated. Now is the time for South Africa to regain its moral voice on the continent and denounce such actions perpetrated by the Zimbabwean government.

Until this point current African Union (AU) chairperson Cyril Ramaphosa has foiled in implementing the AU’s mandate “to promote and protect human rights on the continent” as per Article 3(h) of the Constitutive Act of the African Union.

As DIRCO Minister. I implore you to act decisively on behalf of the South African government and issue a demarche at once.

South Africa must champion and protect democrocy in the region and on the continent. The actions of the Mnangagwa government are that of a liberation movement that continues to oppress its people.
There is no time for ambiguity.

The South African government must speak out and condemn the violent, inhumane and undemocratic actions of the ZANU PF government in Zimbabwe and demand an end to such conduct.
I look forward to your response.

Magistrate Exposes Police Ineptitude

Police should have acted promptly over complaints that Delatfin Investments (Pvt) Limited director Felix Munyaradzi was involved in double allocation of residential stands in Sandton, Harare regional magistrate Mr Ngoni Nduna said yesterday.

He said the failure to act by the police was tantamount to misconduct as action should have been taken when the reports were initially made at Marborough Police Station last October.

He made the comments as he rejected Munyaradzi’s bail application on four counts of fraud.

“The police could be accountable for misconduct, as they kept the matter without action after it having been reported in 2019. Something should have been done over the said period,” he said.

Mr Nduna said there was a possibility that Munyaradzi could interfere with investigations since most of the evidence lies at his company.

Rejecting the application for bail, the magistrate said he considered the relationship between the accused and his employees, since receipts and records are with his employees.

“There is need to ring-fence that evidence and that can only be achieved by remanding the accused in custody.”

Mr Nduna remanded Munyaradzi in custody to August 8, 2020 for his routine remand.

The State led by Mr Michael Reza had opposed Munyaradzi’s bail application saying he was likely to abscond, as more than 50 complaints had been raised against him.

Mr Reza called the investigations officer Superintendent Misheck Ngorima, who expressed fears that Munyaradzi would interfere with investigations.

Munyaradzi, through his lawyer Wellington Pasipanodya, cross-examined Supt Ngorima and filed written submissions-The Herald

South African Parliament To Discuss Zim Human Rights Abuses

A South African opposition party leader has called for the Parliament of South Africa to debate the Zimbabwean Human Rights abuse issues.

In a letter to the speaker of parliament,  Vuyolwethu Zungula said the Zimbabwean issue was a matter of concern in SADC region.

Read his letter below:

The Speaker of Parliament: Hon T Modise.
Parliament Building, Room E118
Parliament Street
Cape Town

04 August 2020

Dear Honourable Speaker.

In light of the recent harsh realities of military police brutality experienced by Zimbabwean citizens amid anti -corruption protests, I hereby request that Parliament debates this matter urgently under the topic:

“Urgent debate: human rights violations in Zimbabwe amid anti-corruption protests”

The silence of the House on this matter might have dire consequences for South Africa, and further damning consequences for the people of Zimbabwe who are exposed to this injustice by the Zimbabwean Government.

As a SADC country and a global citizen, South Africa must have a vested interest in cross-border affairs that fuel the inequality and injustice of many people, which has a direct impact on the well- functioning of surrounding countries.

I am looking forward to your most urgent response.

Yours sincerely,

Vuyolwethu Zungula, MP

Zimbabwe is on fire but is the world listening?

Police officers patrolling the streets orders a man pushing a handcart to go home on the first day of a 21 day lockdown on March 30, 2020 in Bulawayo.

There is a people’s movement on social media — #ZanuPFMustGo, that has been calling for an uprising to remove Zanu-PF from power for state capture and state failure. Zanu-PF has succeeded in capturing all institutions that are meant to uphold democracy.

Not only has Zanu-PF captured the state, it is incapable of running it. It has no capacity, no desire and no agenda to deliver that which governments are mandated to deliver. It has failed to effectively and efficiently allocate resources. Ours is a very small (population) resource-rich country that would be thriving were it better managed. Zanu-PF has failed to provide public goods and to facilitate the provision of merit goods. Under its watch, the economy has collapsed, the state has collapsed.

It is one thing to capture a state and run it efficiently, and another to capture the state only to run it to the ground, and then unleash armed forces on anyone who complains.

On Thursday last week, Zimbabwe Republic Police abducted a 22-year-old journalism student called Tawanda Muchehiwa. He was arrested with two of his cousins, Advent and Amandlenkosi Mathuthu, but bundled away into a separate car.

Later that same day, police raided the home of Tawanda’s uncle Mduduzi Mathuthu, a journalist and Editor of ZimLive newspaper, which has been exposing corruption-linked scandal after scandal by the Zimbabwean government. They claimed to be searching for “subversive materials”. They abducted Mduduzi’s sister Nomagugu Mathuthu and vowed to hold her illegally until her brother gave himself up.

After reports of the raid and abductions, the family’s lawyer Nqobani Sithole went to Bulawayo central police station to look for them. The police denied arresting them. Sithole persisted and asked the police to explain why the young men’s cars were parked at the police station, but the police continued to profess ignorance. Hours later, when police realised Sithole was unrelenting, they produced Advent and Amandlenkosi Mathuthu, but not Tawanda Muchehiwa.

They claimed Tawanda had escaped. The two cousins refuted that story and explained that Tawanda had been arrested with them, but they had no idea where he had been taken.

The next morning Sithole filed a habeas corpus, an urgent application asking the judge to order the police to produce Tawanda. The application was granted the next day, this past Saturday — and police were ordered to produce Tawanda within 72 hours.

Zimbabweans were outraged. Why would the judge give his abductors three more days with him? Later that night, Tawanda’s abductors dumped him 3km from his home, severely tortured. He was taken to the hospital where he suffered renal failure, indicative of more harm having been done to him internally, possibly through poisoning.

A few months ago, Zimbabwe’s government abducted three women from the opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) and tortured them for days before dumping them. In 2019, they abducted Peter Magombeyi, a doctors’ union leader, for leading a doctors’ strike for better salaries and hospital equipment. They kept him for days and dumped him after torturing him.

These are just a few of the Zimbabwean government’s victims of enforced disappearance and torture, both crimes against humanity. The Zimbabwean government has been committing heinous crimes with impunity against anyone who speaks out against them.

Over the weekend they arrested hundreds of unarmed civilians for peacefully protesting against them in the 31 July protests. These arrestees included MDC spokesperson Fadzai Mahere and one of this year’s.

Tagwirei under US sanctions: What does this mean for the tycoon?

newZWire

Now that he is designated on the sanctions list, any property or interests that Tagwirei or Sakunda have in the US, or that is in the possession of any American, must be blocked and reported to the US government.

This means that any international transfers of money to and from Tagwirei or Sakunda can no longer be channeled through the United States, which handles a significant proportion of global banking transactions. Banks that deal with him risk being fined. It will be tough for Tagwirei or Sakunda to open international bank accounts and transfer money, as those banks, even if they are not American, can be fined.

In April 2019, Standard Charterd Bank plc was fined US$18 million by the US government for handling transactions for Zimbabwean state-owned firms and sanctioned individuals. Barclays plc was fined US$2.5 million for transactions in handled between between 2008 and 2013.

CBZ was also fined heavily for handling transactions on behalf of ZB Bank, then on the sanctions list. Tagwirei is said to now hold a stake in the bank.

American citizens are also now banned from having any dealings with either Tagwirei or his company.

Sakunda is involved in the commodities business and logistics, and sanctions could hurt its capacity to trade.

CHRA Warns Of A Serious Humanitarian Catastrophe

The Combined Harare Residents Association condemns machinations to replace a democratically elected council by an appointed commission under the pretext of uprooting corruption in the Harare City Council.

CHRA condemns all forms of corruption and graft and welcome efforts by the state to fight corruption in our local authorities but that does not warrant imposing a commission as this is a serious threat to representative democracy, a move that is aimed to throw citizens to the periphery of local governance.

Any attempt to the abuse of Section 80 (1)(a) and (b) of the Urban Councils Ac 29:15 by the Minister of Local Government through imposing a Commission to run the City of Harare is misplaced and has no place in any democratic society.

Local government is the closest government to the people, the idea and thinking of replacing an elected council that is accountable to the people by an appointed commission has serious implications on accountability

Historically, appointed Commissions have not improved service delivery but have been catalysts of stripping the City of Harare’s assets, fuelling grand corruption and led to total collapse of service delivery to the extent of losing lives.

CHRA has a well-documented narrative of the collateral damage that is highlighted in a snapshot below;

·         Chanakira Commission 1999-2001; Clandestinely recruited 1235 employees and promoted people who were connected to it.

·         Makwavarara Commission 2004-2006; Facilitated the ZINWA takeover of Harare Municipal Water Supply that saw total collapse of water supplies and sewer reticulation, thousands of people died of cholera during her era; recommended the devastating Operation Murambasvina and Ms Makwavarara used ratepayers’ money for her luxuries at the expense of service delivery and illegally bought a council house in Borrowdale for a paltry $780 million instead of $5,5 billion (Zimbabwe Dollars).

·         Michael Mahachi Commission 2006-2007; Council lost vast tracts of land in a US $90 million botched Airport Road deal with Augur Investments and Sewer reticulation plants collapsed.

A closer look to persons who were appointed to be Commissioners in the past clearly shows that most of them were losing candidates in elections or the ruling party apologists and the level of corruption during the periods of commissions was astonishing.

The renewed interest to take over town house comes at a time when the City has signed US$868 water deals.

CHRA warns of a serious humanitarian catastrophe in the event that a Commission takes over the City of Harare, especially at a time the country is under siege from the ravaging and notorious COVID 19 pandemic.

Govt To Criminalise Speaking To Failures By The Govt.

Kembo Mohadi

CABINET has adopted measures that shall soon make it criminal for Zimbabweans “to campaign against their own country.”

The measures were presented to Cabinet by Chairman of the Cabinet Committee on National Peace and Reconciliation, Vice President Kembo Mohadi as part of recommendations from the 2018 And 2019 Annual Reports of the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission.

Presenting the 27th Post-Cabinet press briefing, the Minister of Women’s Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development Dr Sithembiso Nyoni, said the recommendations shall soon be presented to parliament as required by law.

Among the recommended measures include the regulation of the operations of political parties.

“Legislation and a Code of Conduct will be put in place to regulate the operations and conduct of all political parties, campaigning against one’s country shall be legislated at law and criminalised,” Dr Nyoni said.

Under the recommended measures, hate speech by public officials would also be legislated against.

“Existing laws shall be strengthened to include elements that foster tolerance, equality and social cohesion among Zimbabweans as well as prohibit hate speech by public officials, media houses and citizens in public spaces and social, print and electronic media platforms,” she said.

Tagwirei Slapped With Sanctions

Today, the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) designated Kudakwashe Regimond Tagwirei (Tagwirei) for providing support to the leadership of the Government of Zimbabwe, as well as Sakunda Holdings for being owned or controlled by Tagwirei.

Today’s action corresponds with the second anniversary of the Zimbabwean government’s violent crackdown against its citizens who were protesting flawed government elections and the delayed results of the election, which resulted in the deaths of at least six civilians on August 1, 2018.

“Tagwirei and other Zimbabwean elites have derailed economic development and harmed the Zimbabwean people through corruption,” said Deputy Secretary Justin G. Muzinich. “The United States supports the economic well-being of the Zimbabwean people and will target repressive and corrupt acts and graft by Zimbabwean politicians and their financiers.”

KUDAKWASHE REGIMOND TAGWIREI and SAKUNDA HOLDINGS

Tagwirei is a Zimbabwean businessman with longstanding associations to the ruling party in Zimbabwe and high-level Government of Zimbabwe officials, including the current President of Zimbabwe, Emmerson Mnangagwa (Mnangagwa), and First Vice President Constantino Chiwenga, who were listed in the Annex to Executive Order (E.O.) 13288 in March 2003, and the Annex to E.O. 13391 in November 2005, and remain on OFAC’s List of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons (SDN List).

Tagwirei has utilized his relationships with high level Zimbabwean officials to gain state contracts and receive favored access to hard currency, including U.S. dollars. In turn, Tagwirei has provided high priced items, such as expensive cars, to senior-level Zimbabwean government officials.

Since former Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe’s 2017 departure, Tagwirei used a combination of opaque business dealings and his ongoing relationship with President Mnangagwa to grow his business empire dramatically and rake in millions of U.S. dollars.

Additionally, Tagwirei is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and founding director of Zimbabwe-based Sakunda Holdings. As CEO, Tagwirei is responsible for the overall strategy and direction of the company, as well as developing and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including regulators and clients.

Government audit reports prompted a 2019 parliamentary inquiry into whether public funds were misappropriated, revealing the government had failed to account for about $3 billion disbursed under the Command Agriculture program, a state farm subsidy championed by President Mnangagwa and largely financed by Sakunda Holdings.

Tagwirei was designated pursuant to E.O. 13469 for having materially assisted, sponsored, or provided financial, material, logistical, or technical support for, or goods or services in support of, the Government of Zimbabwe, any senior official thereof, or any person whose property and interests in property are blocked pursuant to E.O. 13288, E.O. 13391, or E.O. 13469. Sakunda Holdings was designated pursuant to E.O. 13469 for being owned or controlled by, or for having acted or purported to act for or on behalf of, directly or indirectly, Tagwirei.

Additionally, OFAC concurrently removed sanctions on the recently-deceased John Bredenkamp (Bredenkamp) and 20 companies owned or controlled by Bredenkamp: Alpha International (Private) Ltd., Breco (Asia Pacific) Ltd., Breco (Eastern Europe) Ltd., Breco (South Africa) Ltd., Breco (U.K.) Ltd., Breco Group, Breco International, Breco Nominees Ltd., Breco Services Ltd., Corybantes Ltd., Echo Delta Holdings Ltd., Kababankola Mining Company, Masters International Ltd., Masters International, Inc., Piedmont (UK) Limited, Raceview Enterprises, Scottlee Holdings (Pvt) Ltd., Scottlee Resorts, Timpani Ltd., and Tremalt Ltd. This individual and these entities were previously designated under E.O. 13469 in 2008.

ZIMBABWE SANCTIONS PROGRAM

Beginning with E.O. 13288, “Blocking Property of Persons Undermining Democratic Processes or Institutions in Zimbabwe,” in March 2003, the U.S. Department of the Treasury has used its authorities to identify, disrupt the activities of, and promote accountability for persons who commit human rights abuses, engage in corruption, or undermine democratic processes or institutions in Zimbabwe.

Treasury joins the U.S. Department of State in urging the Zimbabwean government to take meaningful steps towards creating a peaceful, prosperous, and politically vibrant Zimbabwe, rather than using public resources to blame Zimbabwe’s ills on parties other than its corrupt elite and the institutions they abuse for their personal benefit.

Today’s actions continue to demonstrate the importance of Treasury’s sanctions authorities and the United States’ ongoing commitment to supporting a transparent and prosperous Zimbabwe.

Treasury’s authorities in relation to Zimbabwe are publicly available, and Treasury strongly encourages those with questions on the reach or extent of those authorities, or the criteria for the listing or delisting of individuals or entities, to access Treasury’s page dedicated to the Zimbabwe sanctions program.

As a result of Treasury’s designation, all property and interests in property of this individual and entity that are in the United States or in the possession or control of U.S. persons must be blocked and reported to OFAC. OFAC’s regulations generally prohibit all dealings by U.S. persons or within (or transiting) the United States that involve any property or interests in property of blocked or designated person.

DA Says Ramaphosa Has Failed To “Show True Statemanship” On The Zimbabwean Crisis

By A Correspondent- The Democratic Alliance, an opposition party in South Africa has urged that country’s president, Cyril Ramaphosa and the leaders in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region to rebuke Zimbabwe’s president Emmerson Mnangagwa for human rights violations.

We present DA’s statement in full below.

The Democratic Alliance (DA) calls for President Cyril Ramaphosa and Southern African Development Community (SADC) leaders to prevent, on a major scale, the erosion of human rights in Zimbabwe and any further decline in reputation and investment risk to the entire region.

The DA has deep concerns over recent alleged human rights violations in Zimbabwe. Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa has failed the test for tolerance for the opposition and respect for the rule of law.

The propagated rumours of destructive forces within our neighbouring country taking bribes, and the subsequent announcement of the curfew and restriction on movement came as little surprise. When armed forces flexed muscle around Bulawayo and Harare it was clear that not only were the cities going to be eerily quiet, but the voices of the opposition were going to be oppressed.

The silence from President Ramaphosa, in his capacity as President of both South Africa and the African Union (AU), on this matter is of great concern as he has a duty to send a clear and stern warning to the Zimbabwean government to exercise restraint and to remind it the international community is watching.

President Ramaphosa has lost a great opportunity to show true statesmanship. It is therefore important internally, regionally and internationally that he makes an urgent, public statement condemning the human rights abuses and oppression of peaceful protest.

Zimbabwe has seen its fair share of trouble. It just about managed to survive the Mugabe-era of transitional justice that led to the collapse of the economy, harmed food security and put the quality of life of the average Zimbabwean into steep decline. The country might not survive President Mnangagwa using the cover of the Covid-19 pandemic as an opportunity to increase his power without fear of being called out by any of his peers.

Zimbabwe, and the whole SADC region, cannot afford for President Ramaphosa to sit on the sidelines as he is prone to do in South Africa with the likes of Minister Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. As AU chair he has an obligation to ensure stability in the entire region and cannot turn a blind eye when people are suffering gross injustices.

The DA urges Presidents Ramaphosa and Mnangagwa to engage with SADC partners, and that:

  1. All leaders of the SADC region must condemn all forms of human rights abuses;
  2. SADC should call for a cessation of all human rights abuses on individuals and political parties as well as the unfair restriction of their rights. This should be monitored by a SADC task team;
  3. SADC leaders should assist the Zimbabwean government to negotiate a mediation agreement until the next elections; and
  4. South Africa should institute measurables and sanctions against Zimbabwe unless certain terms are reached and abided by.

The DA on its part will partner with all parties in the various SADC countries that have democracy, human rights and prosperity in their manifesto to be more productive and active in the region.

As AU Chair and president of a SADC country, President Ramaphosa cannot turn a blind eye to the atrocities plaguing our neighbouring citizens once again. This situation requires urgent intervention, as is the President’s mandate. The longer the President remains a spectator, the worse the situation will be, and those atrocities will be added to his tally.

4. Our reasonable demands are in the public domain. We look forward to being engaged on these on the basis of mutual respect, where our constitutional and labour rights to a fair wage and not to work in unsafe conditions are respected.
5. Further, we look forward to having our demands acknowledged and met. As we have indicated before, we are unable to return back to work until this has been done.
6. Considering the urgency of the situation, we expect an urgent intervention to resolve the impasse.

Speaking during a Press Conference held at the Party Headquarters today, Chirau said Malema should shelve his concerns to his own backyard where he must protect the Zimbabwean lives he professes to care about.

“The ZANU PF Youth League is resolutely unshaken by the unwarranted vitriolic onslaughts on the integrity of the ruling Party by Economic Freedom Fighters EFF leader Julius Malema, who is himself, struggling for significance in his native South Africa and therefore lacks any qualifications to authoritatively comment on Zimbabwean issues,” Chirau said.

“Zimbabwe is a sovereign state with a democratically elected government under the leadership of His Excellency Cde E.D Mnangagwa and as such, will not brook any interference from puppets and their handlers. By our standards, Mr Malema is a puny, absolute political nonentity whose nostalgia for his wasted glory days with the ANC has pushed him into bed with the equally disgraced G40 clique of charlatans, whose narcissistic penchant for publicity is well documented. It is no secret that he is the latest, albeit ill-chosen, front for the furtherance of self-exiled cabal’s counter-revolutionary pursuits.”

Chirau challenged Malema to protect Zimbabwean lives during xenophobic attacks in his own backyard if he is truly concerned about them.

“If Malema is truly more concerned about Zimbabwean lives that the Zimbabwean government, as he would have his gullible audience believe, then he should be at the forefront in defending them from the poisonous culture of targeted xenophobia endemic in his own country. He should be organizing his noisy demonstrations to that end. That is precisely where his energies are more relevant.”

Chirau added that ZANU PF has had Zimbabwean lives at heart as seen through the sacrifices of the gallant sons and daughters of Zimbabwe during the liberation struggle.

“ZANU PF has, from its very foundation, been at the heart of Zimbabwean lives. By waging a bitter and protracted liberation struggle, wherein patriot cadres made the capital sacrifice, losing precious lives and limbs in the process, the revolutionary Party proved its fullest commitment to Zimbabwean lives,” the Youth League leader said.

“Under the current Second Republic, captained by the shrewd Cde E.D Mnangagwa, the ZANU PF led administration has embarked on various pro-people economic policies, such as vision 2030, which are steadily yielding fruit.”

Temba Mliswa And Linda Masarira Praise Chiwenga’s Appointment As Health Minister For His Military Background.

263chat

Norton Member of Parliament, Temba Mliswa together with opposition leader, Linda Masarira have hailed the appointment of Vice President (VP), Constantino Chiwenga as Health Minister saying military discipline characteristic with his background will come in handy as far as bringing order to the portfolio is concerned.

This is despite wide uproar to Chiwenga’s appointment on social media with the general public condemning the move.

Speaking on the micro-blogging site, Twitter, Mliswa congratulated President Emmerson Mnangagwa for appointing Chiwenga expressing optimism that the appointment will address the Ministry bedevilled with issues.

“I would like to congratulate His Excellency on the appointment of VP Chiwenga as Minister of Health and Child Care. The appointment is astute as the sector, bedevilled with issues, will benefit from a man with military discipline in the running of administrations,” wrote Mliswa.

LEAD President, Masarira also echoed the sentiment saying the Ministry of Health and Child Care needs to be handled firmly just as one would handle the Defence Forces.

“At this moment the Ministry of Health and Child Care is the most pivotal ministry, it has to be handled firmly just as one would handle the Defence Forces. VP Chiwenga‘s appointment should transform and rehabilitate the health sector. I will not allow my emotions to cloud my reasoning,” wrote Masarira.

However, Chiwenga’s 2018 firing of medical practitioners who had engaged in an industrial action protesting over poor remuneration is making some individuals cringe from his appointment.

“VP Chiwenga once fired all hospitals Nurses and doctors for demanding better working conditions. He gets his medical treatment in China, he is now the Minister of Health and Child Care the same guy who said doctors are an occupation, not a profession,” said social media influencer Wellence Mujuru.

While United Kingdom-based lawyer, Dr Alex Magaisa said, “The Ministry of Health is a pit full of Black Mambas, with potential to cause political death. Did Rtd General Constantino Chiwenga jump in or was he pushed? A man who regularly flies to China for private treatment now oversees a decrepit public healthcare system he doesn’t use!”

SDA Pastor Blasts His Church For Tolerating ZANU PF

Pastor Khethelo Mazibuko

Popular Seventh-Day Adventist Church South African Pastor Khethelo Mazibuko has spoken about the injustices in Zimbabwe and pointed out that the SDA church in Zimbabwe has not rebuked deeply corrupt SDA members but instead worship with them.

Writing on Facebook Pastor Mazibuko who has a number of viral clips on his teachings about Family Life said:

As we pray, protest and work for the Liberation of our people in Zimbabwe, we must realise that ZANU-PF, MDC, MDC-T have no place in the future of a prosperous Zimbabwe.Together with these parties, Churches like the Seventh-day Adventist Church must be exiled for 70yrs (Jer 29) for their complicity in the corruption. There is a cloud of deeply corrupt Seventh-day Adventist Members who surround the Zim Government. They have monopoly on Petroleum, Agriculture and Mining. The Conferences, Unions in Zimbabwe have said nothing to rebuke these members but instead worship them.As such, the church has been complicit and it too must be stripped of its Credentials in a new Zimbabwe. No Conference, Union Leader of the Church in Zimbabwe can preach on the Integrity of Daniel, Nehemiah, Joseph and Esther…for they (Church Leaders) spoke no truth to power but chose self preservation. As in Apartheid South Africa, the SDA Church always falls on the wrong side of History where Oppression and Human Rights are concerned.

While the Pastor did not mention any names, popular Tycoon Kuda Tagwirei who is said to be a Zanu Pf benefactor is a member of the Seventh-Day Adventists and people who commented on the post speculated that the pastor was referring to her.

As we pray, protest and work for the Liberation of our people in Zimbabwe, we must realise that ZANU-PF, MDC, MDC-T have…

The Church is yet to comment on Mazibuko’s sentiments.

Proof: A Loaf Of Bread In Zimbabwe Costs $17 USD!

Zim Price Check

A loaf of bread in Zimbabwe would cost the average American New Yorker about US$17 (or 17.0448377581) according to our calculations. This is based on what Zimbabweans earn and how much they spend on bread. This article was inspired by a Tweet from the Namibian Actor Maria Nepembe. The tweet seems to have been deleted, probably after she discovered her “mistake”.

I was in Zim last year and bread costs like 10USD

What the tweet said.
The price for a standard white loaf of bread in Zimbabwe is not US$10. The price actual price varies from around 11 ZAR or $US0.80 to about US$1.00 for special seed loaves. In general one can expect to pay a retail price of $0.90 for a loaf of bread. But the truth is if you are an average Zimbabwean bread does feel expensive when you are buying it. There is a reason for this.

It’s all about income stupid!
There is a reason people in Zimbabwe feel like their bread is expensive. It’s all about income. If we factor in what Zimbabweans earn and what they pay for bread those feelings start to make sense. In reality, a New Yorker can expect to pay about US$2.64 for the same loaf of bread if they are buying it from their nearest bakery. This is more twice the price of bread in Zimbabwe.

The tempting conclusion here is that bread is cheaper in Zimbabwe than New York. That would be false as it is based on the flawed logic that Zimbabweans and New Yorkers earn the same. Obviously this is not the case. While bread appears to be cheaper in Zimbabwe, Zimbabweans are spending a higher proportion of their income to buy the same loaf even though it appears priced cheaper.

What they earn
According to Investopedia in New York:

The Median Income Household is $57 782 while
The Mean Income Household is $93,196 and
Per Capita Income is $35,761
We didn’t want to be unkind to Zimbabweans here so we opted to use the Median Household income otherwise we would end up with heart-attack inducing results if we chose the mean. Also these figures are from 2019. Meanwhile for Zimbabwe ZIMSTAT had the following statistics from 2017 (we didn’t want to fall into the exchange rate trap debate) and again we were being kind as Zimbabweans were earning more during the same period compared to what they are earning now. So according to ZIMSTAT we had the following figures:

US$ 2 401 before transfers and
US$2 712 after transfers
Per Capita GDP US$1 602
Buying a loaf of bread
When a Zimbabwean household buys a loaf of bread it means they are spending:

0.8/2712*100

That is: 0.02949852507% or about 0.03% of their annual income on that single loaf even if it’s cheaper.

In comparison a New Yorker would be spending:

2.64/57782*100

That is:0.00456889688% or about 0.005% of their annual income on each loaf that they buy even though it’s nominally expensive.

Let maths do the talking
In order for a New Yorker to feel the same way as a Zimbabwean feels when they buy a loaf of bread they would have to spend 0.02949852507% of their annual income on a single loaf of bread:

: 0.02949852507% of $57 782

That is: 17.0448377581 or US$17.04

Zimbabwe At The Precipice As Illegal Arrests Continue

Zimbabwe at the precipice as illegal arrests, abductions, and torture increase before and after 31st July National Demonstration
Zimbabweans called for an expression of national disaffection through a countrywide demonstration which was successfully held on 31st July 2020 against endemic corruption by the Harare regime. The demonstration was very peaceful as Zimbabweans shutdown the country and were not provoked by the state’s show of force through widespread deployment of the heavily armed military and the police. Tragically, the peaceful Zimbabweans who managed to conduct themselves maturely and in an unprecedented show of unity were soon victims of police, army, and Zanu PF vigilante brutality. There are numerous cases of human rights violations ranging from illegal arrests to torture as this expose will show.

Prior to the demonstrations that were called by the convener of the 31st July protests Mr. Jacob Ngarivhume, the country and the world witnessed not only his illegal arrest but the subsequent illegal arrest and detention of award-winning journalist Hopewell Chin’ono who had exposed corruption surrounding the Covid-19 PPEs purchase by the Minister of Health Mr. Obadiah Moyo. On the day of the demonstration, renowned writer Tsitsi Dangarembga, MDC Alliance Spokesperson Fadzai Mahere, activist Julie Barnes, and journalist Mduduzi Mathuthu’s nephew Tawanda Mucheiwa were arrested and illegally detained for allegedly inciting public violence. In order to intimidate organizers of the 31st July protest, the Zimbabwe Republic Police issued a public appeal and interest in the following activists: Makomborero Haruzivishe, Godfrey Kurauone, Ostallos Siziba, Job Sikhala, Promise Mkwananzi, Denford Ngadziore, Allan Moyo, Obey Sithole, Orbert Masaraure, Jimmy Kunaka, Peter Mutasa, Robson Chere, Stephen Chuma, and Godfrey Tsenengamu.

Tawanda Mucheiwa who lives in Bulawayo was abducted, tortured, and illegally detained. The Zimbabwe 3 (Cecilia Chimbiri, Joan Momembe, and Netsai Marova) who had reported to Harare Magistrate court for routine remand hearing were sexually harassed by security forces on their way to court. Tawanda Mucheiwa has reported that his abductors identified themselves as the “Feret” team which is a shadowy security apparatus that includes Law and Order, Central Intelligence Organization, and Military Intelligence officers. Activist Takunda Madzana who lives in Bulawayo was also abducted, tortured, and dumped in the middle of nowhere.
A cause for concern is the widespread immunity enjoyed by the security forces and the impunity with which they execute the unconstitutional, barbaric, and illegal acts that are sanctioned by Zanu PF political leaders who held press conferences one after another and labeled opposition activists terrorists and urged their supporters to defend themselves physically. Deputy Minister Victor Matemadanda and politiburo member Patrick Chinamasa encouraged the illegal acts. Currently, numerous activists are in hiding for fear of abductions, illegal detention, and torture. As a result, 31st July Movement Spokesperson Job Sikhala has called for more protests between 10 August and 15th August 2020 geared towards condemning the rampant human rights abuses that the state has been guilty of during the clampdown.

FULL TEXT: Kuda Tagwirei And His Sakunda Holdings Placed On US Sanctions List

Washington – Today, the U.S.

Kaizer Chiefs Suspend Manager For Breaching Lockdown Regulations

Kaizer Chiefs have suspended their football manager Bobby Motaung after a video was leaked online when he was breaking lockdown rules.

Motaung was captured in the video at a party with his colleagues, a breach of lockdown rules imposed by the South African government to curb the spread of coronavirus.

In a statement, Chiefs said they have placed their football manager on suspension until August 31 while they carry out investigations on the matter.

“As part of our policies and continuous process of monitoring the public conduct of our members, players, and staff, Kaizer Chiefs has decided to summarily suspend Football Manager Bobby Motaung,” Chiefs said.

“This is a result of a number of videos circulating on social media wherein the Football Manager is seen taking part in festivities during what looks like the lockdown period. The Club has been involved in the internal processes of investigating his conduct, which led to the decision to suspend him.”

The suspension is with immediate effect and Motaung will not be allowed to meet or travel with the team. The directive means he will miss, at least, the first games on the season restart this weekend.

“Subsequently, the Club would like to confirm that Bobby Motaung is suspended with immediate effect up to and including 31 August 2020. He is not allowed to accompany the team to any training session or scheduled matches,” the statement continues.

“Even though he has tested negative on four occasions for Covid-19 during the club’s mandatory tests, he is ordered to remain home and self-quarantine during this time.

“This is in line with the rules and regulations of the Club according to the protocols that we have put in place.

“The Club reaffirms its stance to all stakeholders of our commitment to play an exemplary role to assist in the fight against the spread of the pandemic.”-Soccer 24

BREAKING- Govt To Enact Legislation To Criminalise Anyone Who “De-campaigns” Zim

“The Candid Truth Is That We Are Not Safe Anymore”

The candid truth is that we are now hanging by a thread; we are on our own now. It is no longer a matter of if, but when, and when that happens will we be ready to face the tide, or even the Hague? Those holding the keys to the fortresses and armoury are our own, or are they still? Until when because these things change at ungodly hours, we are not safe anymore.

Daylight pledges of loyalty is talk, and talk is cheap. Brown envelopes are real currency, and tax free too. The blood of kinsmen folk will not remain thick enough, cursed be the brown envelope.

But then again, everyone deserves their reward. Until when, those in barracks are mothers and fathers with working consciences too. They know too well money is tastier with good sleep at night.

How did we get here, Comrades? What is it that made us believe we held an inherent title to dictate court decisions, to decide which project goes to tender and which one does not? How did we tell ourselves that this rot will live to see all the days of our lives without reproach, what got into us to use our last arsenals and line of defence against hungry, unarmed “terrorists” who depend on nothing but fancy legalese in parliament and stones on the street?

These are not terrorists; they are the men and women winning the minds and votes of our supporters as we shoot Mbare vendors.

Mr President, your hast national address yesterday is evidence that you are shaken, the citizens are encouraged to forge ahead even harder. It’s a temporary time of the people’s resolve and power. Forget the clownish Sikhala, fix eyes on the simple people.

Some of us are not so old to not care about the next 20 years. Our younger children are still in high school and need better education and employment opportunities as nearer to us as possible before we too answer the call of death. We too want security for what we have built by hook or crook since the end of the liberation war.

Could we not have taken enough care and foresight to leave the gravy train when we were still perceived as innocent? Comrades we are under attack from inside and outside. They say we lost the 2018 elections, but we ourselves know very well we are losing the legitimacy war by letting down our dwindling party numbers.

We are losing a diplomatic war by the continued use of snipers and canons on unarmed citizens. We are losing the democratic highground by the wanton arrest of opposition members and journalists who expose corruption. We are losing the economic war, yes we are.

The corruption busting cause was hugely thrown in disarray when Gono on a Saturday night protested Magaisa that citizens did NOT carry the farm mechanisation cost, denying again by a long article on Sunday, only to let down his guard on Tuesday and say it was funded by government, which survives on taxpayer’s money!

Gideon Gono worked hard to keep the country running in his time, he was a victim of our imprudent system and ruthless patronage.

The onslaught on us has turned up the cadence because this is now a burning civic and human rights war which resonates with all the somebody’s and nobody’s on the international arena. We are in trouble comrades. Putin watched Mugabe fall, he will watch us too.

Comrades, we are losing the political war too, July 31 was not an opposition thrust. It was a civil initiative which gained opposition traction because of resonance. These are real issues even to our own members.

Our supporters do not condone the perpetuation of these many a vice, they too are worried and hurt by commonplace corruption. They too are being beaten by the indiscriminate police button sticks and the gun butts of the KGIV boys in the streets while they try to eke a living.

Our own members are good numbers of the vendors on the street corners, our own party members have no food in their homes too, our own party members are being kicked off the land by bigwigs in this room with multiple offer letters to large tracts of arable land which is being used for weekend braais in the midst of corona and hunger.

Nobody is safe from the economic onslaught, nobody. Today our technocrats are using their skills to the benefit of the industries of other countries which we termed our enemies. No, we are now our own enemies.

We are angry that we do not interfere in the affairs of other countries, this is true, and in that vein we expect other countries to also leave us alone.

Yet, comrades, we gave Malema and others a reason to speak so they cannot keep quiet. By burdening social services in their countries due to the migration of thousands our citizens into their countries daily running away from our failure of governance, we gave them fodder on so many pedestals to attack us. We lost that highground on Pan-African and even moral pedestals. We lost.

A next door neighbour, who is feeding my children every day as they run from the never-ending hunger in my house, has every right to question my capacity as a leader, solution maker and provider.

We will survive a few more attacks, but at the end of it all we will lose to the people. It is becoming a painful reality that we are fast becoming a run-away head of the train without the containers behind.

The 2008 fiasco should have taught us that maybe we took lightly the loyalty our members have displayed since 1980, and our own over-perceived measure of the ability to harvest the sway vote. We forgot that these were no longer loyal and sway votes, we as the fishes had outgrown the water pools which are the masses, fear reigned amongst them.

We failed to deal with corruption, ZACC was a smoke screen and did not measure to the rot in our midst. Chivayo, Undenge, Mupfumira and Chris Kuruneri could not have possibly destroyed the economy of a whole Zimbabwe between two decades.

Comrades we failed to leave the political battles bout for bout with the opposition in the political arena alone and in fact, we roped in the courts to fight our battles.

Almost the majority of the opposition leadership and journalists are on remand for all sorts of charges. Human Rights lawyers are making names for themselves, our punches are rewarding them.

We exposed our Chief Justice to global condemnation and attack by decreeing that orders by independent, thinking and impartial judges must be seen and approved by their court heads. Our judiciary became a laughing stock as this decree had to be changed thrice within days, this was a costly blunder.

As it stands, what will the head of court do when he or she “sees” the court order before a judge can deliver it before a court? Of what practical end does it serve if he or she will not change anything on the judgment? Is that not a bureaucratic lumber? Or will the head of court change only the font and colour of the judgment, is that it? Our judiciary lost its own impartiality trial.

Comrades, I speak for many of our own. We are now on borrowed time and we are not doing much to slow down the train destined for crash. The least we could have done was to cut the umbilical cord from the way of doing things of the First Republic.

We entered the scene to much celebration and fresh hope, after holding the old man captive and raining bullets on the residences of the cohorts that were around him.

As things turned out we steered the ship towards an even bigger iceberg, we are fast approaching the end.

The truth is that we have a few years left at the top, the Creator has the count of our days on this earth too, let us use that to finish the race with some dignity. We used poor people’s monies to get treatment in seven star hospitals of Europe, what with the shopping sprees and properties in the pacific.

As Ecclesiastes would have it, all is vanity. With hindsight we should have built and capacitated our own hospitals and infrastructure, but we did not care right? Our children and ourselves are now running around all over Harare looking for a single ventilator during the night.

We are now working around the clock to paint Wilkins and make alternatives at Rock Foundation, for ourselves first then our voters second if it won’t be too late for the viral load in their hungry bodies.

Our own deeds are surely calling us to account, God will surely call us to account when we depart. We do not know when this will be, but surely it will come. Perence Shiri is accounting for his gruesome part in Gukurahundi as we speak. Takatadza maComrades.

Breastfeeding Tips For Women

The theme of World Breastfeeding Week 2020 is “Support breastfeeding for a healthier planet”.

In line with this theme, WHO and UNICEF are calling on governments to protect and promote women’s access to skilled breastfeeding counselling, a critical component of breastfeeding support.

Breastfeeding provides every child with the best possible start in life. It delivers health, nutritional and emotional benefits to both children and mothers. And it forms part of a sustainable food system. But while breastfeeding is a natural process, it is not always easy. Mothers need support – both to get started and to sustain breastfeeding.

Skilled counselling services can ensure that mothers and families receive this support, along with the information, the advice, and the reassurance they need to nourish their babies optimally.

Breastfeeding counselling can help mothers to build confidence while respecting their individual circumstances and choices.

Counselling can empower women to overcome challenges and prevent feeding and care practices that may interfere with optimal breastfeeding, such as the provision of unnecessary liquids, foods, and breastmilk substitutes to infants and young children.

Improving access to skilled counselling for breastfeeding can extend the duration of breastfeeding and promote exclusive breastfeeding, with benefits for babies, families and economies. Indeed, analysis indicates that increasing rates of exclusive breastfeeding could save the lives of 820 000 children every year, generating US $302 billion in additional income.

Skilled breastfeeding counselling can be provided by different actors including health care professionals, lactation counsellors and peer support providers, and in a variety of settings– in health facilities or clinics, through home visits or community programmes, in person or remotely.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, it is even more important to find innovative solutions to ensure that access to these essential services is not disrupted and that families continue to receive the breastfeeding counselling they need.

This is why UNICEF and WHO, in line with the policy actions advocated by the UNICEF-WHO-led Global Breastfeeding Collective, are calling on governments to:
INVEST to make skilled breastfeeding counselling available to every woman. Ensuring availability of skilled breastfeeding counselling to every woman will require increased financing for breastfeeding programmes and improved monitoring and implementation of policies, programmes and services.

TRAIN health care workers, including midwives and nurses, to deliver skilled breastfeeding counselling to mothers and families.

ENSURE that counselling is made available as part of routine health and nutrition services that are easily accessible.

PARTNER and collaborate with civil society and health professional associations, building strong collaborative systems for provision of appropriate counselling.

PROTECT health care workers from the influence of the baby food industry.

Together, through commitment, concerted action and collaboration, we can ensure that every mother has access to skilled breastfeeding counselling.

Emmerson Mnangagwa Is A Sellout, Declares Defiant Malema

Malema’s EFF “Roasts” Mliswa

FULL TEXT: Nurses Update On Ongoing Industrial Action

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwe Nurses Association (ZINA) has provided an update on its ongoing industrial action which has clocked 48 hours.

The body also welcomed the appointment of a substantive Minister and Permanent Secretary whom they urged to urgently deal with the pressing matters bedeviling the sector.

Demanding Accountability Is Not A Crime

Farai Dziva|MDC Alliance leader, Advocate Nelson Chamisa has called for unity among Zimbabweans as the desperate Zanu PF regime continues to persecute ordinary citizens.

President Chamisa is back in office after spending some time in Gutu after the death of his mother.

“Back from the village…Made a surprise visit to Cdes Hopewell & Jacob at Harare Remand Prison.

They’re in high spirits, resolute &inspired to continue the fight for a New and Better Zimbabwe.

Demanding accountability is not criminal.Unity wins struggles. #ZimbabweanLivesMatter,” President Chamisa wrote on Twitter.

2020 Breastfeeding Week Objectives

Jonathan Moyo Attacks VP Chiwenga For Being Appointed Minister Of Health

By Dr Masimba Mavaza

Jonathan Moyo mocks the Vice President Chiwenga.

In a Twitter trail Jonathan Moyo was asked to give his wisdom and comment on the appointment of Chiwenga as the minister of Health. Moyo responded by saying the government cannot afford to lose the general now. Jonathan Moyo said the VP was told that no soldier will die of Corona anymore since he is the only one who will be allowed to sign CORONA out. In other words Jonathan Moyo was suggesting that the vice president is a moron who believes that those getting Corona are given it by the government.

Jonathan Moyo’s Tweet comes soon after the narative he has been peddling around suggesting that Comrade Perrance Shiri and all army personnel who died in the last few days, have been deliberately infected with COVID.

THIS shallow thinking by the devil of spin Jonathan Moyo is meant to cause confusion.

Dr Chiwenga is a wise man and his work shows his wisdom. Cde Chiwenga has sourced thousands of dollars worth of PPEs to fight the virus. Cde Chiwenga understands the impact and effects of the Corona and can only laugh at the comments of Jonathan Moyo.
Jonathan Moyo has been attacking the Vice President cde Chiwenga since time memorial.

He activated a dedicated attack on the credentials of the Vice president while Jonathan was the minister of information. Zimbabwe would remember when Jonathan engaged war with the army and he was using the Herald and the chronicle.

It has always been Jonathan’s Moyo purpose to bring the Vice President down. His personal hatred for anyone from Mashonaland came to light when he even took his fight from Chiwenga to ED to George Charamba. He misled Mrs Mugabe the former first lady to believe that she was under attack from the army.

Jonathan Moyo had earlier on stated that he will destroy ZANU PF from within. Having failed his mission he now finds it funny to insult the honourable Vice President.

The appointment of cde Chiwenga to thee ministry of health shows that the president is taking the war against COVID Seriously. This is a war appointment because we are at war with the COVID 19. This appointment shows the seriousness of the Zimbabwean president against the virus. Leadership is not judged by how you pronounce words. Cde Chiwenga might pronounce some words in a way peculiar to him this does not reflect on his leadership skills.
The comments by Jonathan Moyo are childish and in bad test.

Zanu PF Looters Are The Real Terrorists

04-08-2020

Emmerson Mnangagwa’s reckless utterances to brand the opposition as “terrorists” must never go unchallenged.

It is very clear that this unjustified polemic attack on innocent citizens is meant to cleanse torture, rape and abductions of political opponents.

It is tragic and unfortunate for a whole occupant of the highest office in the land to rabidly misrepresent citizens he purports to lead.

Terrorism borders on a deliberate plan to decimate human life and Emmerson Mnangagwa’s dealings with dissent voices best summarizes the meaning of the word.

The worst terrorists are those that abducted Cecilia Chimbiri, Netsai Marova and Joanna Mamombe for speaking against corruption.

More than spineless terrorists are those that put millions of lives at risk by looting millions of US dollars meant to avert the Covid-19 pandemic.

Surely you can not talk of terrorism without mention of a thief who looted Covid-19 funds, Obadiah Moyo.

What of a man who deployed the army on 01 August 2018 to butcher unarmed and innocent civilians just because they rejected him in the ballot?

That man is non other than Emmerson Mnangagwa who was the Commander in Chief of the Defence Forces.

Of course the list is infinite but it will be great injustice not to talk of the worst terrorist who presided over death of millions in this country due to starvation and hunger.

We shall never stop talking about corruption because Mnangagwa has branded us terrorists.

We shall never relent!

Yours Faithfully

Zim Football Stars Add Voice To #ZimbabweanLivesMatter Movement

NATIONAL football team stars have joined other local and international celebrities in condemning human rights abuses in the country under the #ZimbabweanLivesMatter  social media movement.

The movement, which was trending on social media and had almost one million tweets yesterday afternoon, started after security forces blocked a street demonstration last week.

It draws on the success of the global movement highlighting racial injustice that gained prominence after the death in May of Afro-American George Floyd in Minneapolis at the hands of the United States police.

Both local and international celebrities have endorsed the campaign including Kim Jayde, Cassper Nyovest, Tinashe, Buffalo Souljah and many others.

Now, senior national team stars including Warriors captain Knowledge Musona have also added their voices in speaking out against social injustices in the country.

Musona posted a message on his official Twitter account in support of the initiative. Other current Warriors stars including Khama Billiat, Talent Chawapiwa and Marshal Munetsi also showed their support of the campaign in their social media accounts.

The team’s poster by Billiat posted, “In whose hand is the life of every living thing, And the breath of all mankind?

Job 12:10 #Zimbabweanlivesmatter#Everylifematter. In God we Trust”

France-based midfielder Munetsi wrote, “It is my utmost desire to see a Zimbabwe that is prosperous, peaceful, productive and progressive in all sectors, tolerant and full of love, faith and hope. Let us continue to pray for our beautiful Zimbabwe. #Zimbabweanlivesmatter,” while winger Chawapiwa posted “Talent “God is in control#Zimbabweanlivesmatterr.”

Former Warriors captain Willard Katsande led the cast of ex-team players who came out in the open condemning the clampdown on human rights.

“Prayers to my Zimbabwean brothers and sisters #Zimbabweanlivesmatter,” posted the Kaizer Chiefs hardman on his Twitter account.

Other former players who showed their support included Cuthbert Malajila and Matthew Rusike.

South Africa’s national team attacker Percy Tau also threw his weight behind the campaign.

Besides footballers, Zimbabwe-born Springbok prop Tendai Mtawarira and former Zimbabwe cricket captain Brendan Taylor posted messages on their social media accounts in support.

The campaign has also caught the attention of American rapper and actor Ice Cube, while several prominent South African politicians have expressed their anger over use of brute force by President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s government.

In a televised speech yesterday, Mnangagwa said the protests, which were quashed by his security forces, was an “insurrection” meant to topple his administration.

He said “dark forces within and outside the country” were undermining economic recovery efforts.

“The bad apples that have attempted to divide our people and to weaken our systems will be flushed out,” he said.

Zimbabwe is facing an economic crisis, with inflation hovering around 737%, food and fuel shortages and a collapsing currency.

At least 60 people, including 2020 Booker Prize long-listed novelist Tsitsi Dangarembga, were arrested for taking part in the foiled protests, according to Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights.

Petition To Stop Security Forces To Stop Obeying Unconstitutional Orders

By A Correspondent- Opposition leader Noah Manyika started a petition to compel the Zimbabwean state security forces to stop obeying unconstitutional orders.

Manyika’s petition has gathered momentum over the last few days in the wake of last week’s events.

In compelling people to sign the petition Dr Manyika appealed to the forces and said it was illegal to listen to an unconstitutional order:

Repressive governments have no incentive to change when the wall of protection around them is intact. Today, young soldiers, policemen and state security agents born just before or after 1980 are the strength of that wall. They perpetuate Zanu(PF)’s destructive rule at their own expense and yours, breaking down the doors of the regime’s perceived enemies in the dead of night and brutalizing citizens exercising their constitutional right to protest. The instruments of Zanu(PF)s brutality who abduct, rape, kill are to be found among

  • your tribesmen, children, siblings, uncles, aunts, your friends, your in-laws. You may even be married to one of them.
  • your neighbors, fellow workers, tenants, drinking partners, members of your faith community;

Their failure to understand that IT IS ILLEGAL TO OBEY AN ILLEGAL AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL ORDER stands between you and your freedom. Our duty to present and future generations is to awaken with over a million signatures the conscience of the Born Frees in the regime’s Black Boots, Army, Police, Military Intelligence and CIO., etc., that IT IS LEGAL TO DISOBEY ILLEGAL AND UNCONSTITUTIONAL ORDERS and that the legal fraternity and every Zimbabwean will offer their complete support to those who will take a stand.

Over 40 000 people have already signed the petition. You can check the progress of the petition on this link

WATCH- “Court Apologises To MDC Alliance Trio”.

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights’ Obey Shava, who is representing the MDC Alliance trio, Joanna Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova has revealed that the court Wednesday morning apologised to the three over the continous shifting of dates for their trial date.

Shave said this while expressing concern over the continous revision of his clients’ trial dates arguing that the development posed security risks on the girls.

Speaking shortly after the court appearing of the trio at Harare magistrates court Wednesday morning, Shava said:

“When we last appeared on the 31st July 2020, the agreement had been that the trial date would be the 26 August 2020 as opposed to the 16th of September 2020. But the court had advised that it would be entertaining the trial on 26th September 2020. From our side, we had no issues with 26 September, we agreed with it and at the material time, the state equally agreed to have the matter rolled over to the 26th September for trial.

All of a sudden, we received summons calling upon our clients to report at court today for the correction of an error which had occurred regards the trial date, so we came and advised that ….the court had pronounced it’s date as the 26th September as opposed to August 2020.

But the main issue, the main worry which we highlighted to the court is that this attendance, today’s attendance was not necessary. It exposes our clients to risks, we know what happened on the 31st July when we appeared, we were detained illegally by the security forces.

One of my clients was assaulted, and for the state to continuously summon my clients to appear unnecessarily before the court, is really unreasonable. It’s inhumane to say the least, so I highlighted that to the court and the court apologised for everything that happened to my client, but eventually we then agreed that we’ll be coming back on the 26th August for trial.”

Tanzani Bans All Forms Of Online “Protests”

The Tanzanian government has banned organising or supporting any form of demonstration online and the sharing of information about an infectious disease outbreak without permission has also been outlawed.

According to BBC World Service’s African editor Will Rose, activists in Tanzania say new rules that restrict online content are infringing on people’s freedom of expression. Said, Ross:

Under the new legislation, organising, planning or even supporting any form of demonstration online is now illegal.

The new rules have also banned the sharing of information about an infectious disease outbreak without government permission.

The Tanzanian authorities have removed rules governing hate speech on the basis of sexuality and gender.

Correspondents say the new rules also make it possible for people to be prosecuted for what they write on a shared instant messaging platform, such as a WhatsApp group.

Since becoming president in 2015, Tanzania’s John Magufuli has launched a cracked down on the media, civil society organisations and individuals critical of the government.

In June Magufuli declared the East African country “COVID-19 free”. He attributed the claimed success over the worldwide pandemic to prayers and fasting that the people of Tanzania had offered to God.

At the time of the announcement, Tanzania had 509 confirmed COVID-19 cases with 21 deaths, according to the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Man Hunt For July 31 Organisers In Zanu Pf

By A Correspondent- Zanu PF has reportedly launched a massive witch hunt for party leaders who joined forces with civil society groups to stage the July 31 anti-corruption protests, and is systematically axing them, Southern Eye has heard.

On Monday, the axe fell on Zanu-PF Matabeleland North provincial youth leader Tamuka Nyoni, who was suspended on allegations of working against the party.

Nyoni was suspended for alleged links with the Promise Mkwananzi-led pressure group, #Tajamuka/Sesijikile.

This came shortly after politburo member Claveria Chizema was suspended last week on allegations of illegal possession of anti-government fliers which were recovered from her home.

“What we are seeing is that the party top leaders believe the opposition parties and other organisations which are anti-government have devised a way of working with our internal structures. So going forward, we are basically going to see more purges,” a party source said.

Another source revealed that the strategy, if not well handled, could backfire for President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

“There has always been an agenda by remnants of G40 to reform President Mnangagwa out of Zanu-PF by tampering with base structures. So this can now be an opportunity to sideline his loyalists on false accusations,” the source added.

“That has already happened in Midlands where his nephew Esau Natare was suspended on flimsy grounds, while Godwin Gomwe in Harare almost fell by the way side under the same plot.”

Party acting spokesperson Patrick Chinamasa was not picking calls, while youth leader Tendai Chirau declined to comment.

“Kindly talk to Matabeleland North leadership,” Chirau said.

Zanu-PF Matabeleland North youth league deputy leader Elizabeth Masuku confirmed the suspension.

“The chair was found with some money coming from crooks and the #Tajamuka crew. So he was suspended pending investigations and appearance before a disciplinary committee. As you know, in our party, there are processes which follow one’s suspension,” she said.

Private Doctors Plead For PPEs

By A Correspondent- Doctors in the private sector have called for assistance with medical equipment including personal protective equipment (PPEs) which is now inadequate due to large numbers of patients seeking medical attention.

Medical and Dental Private Practitioners of Zimbabwe Association interim president Johannes Marisa said the citizenry is being forced by the collapse of the local public health system to seek medical assistance in private health institutions.

Speaking to NewsDay, Marisa said:

Private practice has equally been affected by issues pertaining to PPE and finances. So many surgeries and clinics have found the going very tough in terms of patient management as patients flock to private practice as public health institutions are dysfunctional at the moment.

It is unfortunate that with the unavailability of affordable and easy testing, many are going for long without being detected of COVID-19, making it a life-threatening risk on the part of the private practitioners who have lately assumed the number one position on the frontliners’ list.

He appealed to the corporate world to help with PPEs to medical staff both in the private and public sectors.

This is happening when health caregivers in the public sector are downing tools over poor salaries and working conditions.

“Now That You Have Compensated White Farmers, Pay US$100 billion For Matabeleland Genocide”: MLO

Now that the government of Zimbabwe has finally signed a deal to pay white famers US$3,5 billion as compensation for their farms that it grabbed, we remind it to dig deeper into the same pocket and pay its other bill of US$100 billion compensation for Matabeleland genocide it committed between 1980 and 1987.

It is not only white people that you have wronged. You have also committed unforgivable and unforgettable sins in Matabeleland where you have murdered, raped, looted and plundered. Now it is time to pay.

The amount will cover Matabeleland genocide, illegal occupation of Matabeleland, gross abuse of Matabele people, properties in the form of houses, businesses and cars that were forcefully taken from Matabeles living in Harare by Zanupf Youth Brigade and Zanupf Women’s league led by Sally Mugabe in 1984 and 1985. Also over 100 000 homes that were burnt down in Matabeleland by the National Army 5th Brigade, people who lost their livelihoods and jobs due to maiming and displacements, looting and plundering of Matabeleland resources from 1980 to date.

Due to the fact that Matabeleland genocide was plotted and carried out by the government of Zimbabwe, the current and future governments of the same country shall continue paying the reparations regardless of which party would be ruling until the dept is fully paid.

This article would not serve its full purpose if the government of Zimbabwe is not reminded of the Notice of Demand for the Restoration of Matabeleland State.

The Zimbabwe government under President Robert Mugabe was served with the notice in 2015 by the President of MLO Cde Paul Siwela on behalf of MLO.

The follow up letter with the notice attached was sent to Emmerson Mnangagwa as soon as became the official President of Zimbabwe in 2018.

To demonstrate the urgency with which MLO treats this issue, MLO President Cde Paul Siwela sent a reminder to the President of Zimbabwe via his official email early this year and last month through his official twitter handle.

But it seems Emmerson Mnangagwa is too scared to respond or does not understand the depth of Matabele anger over the genocide suffered at his hands and his comrades in crime.

We remind him, he has no choice but commit the Zimbabwe government to pay.

All foreign governments and multi-national organizations, the general public and the business community that has invested in Matebeleland territory must exercise extreme caution as their licenses shall be subject to cancellation in due course and their operations affected by this Notice in one way or the other.

After all , the constitution of Zimbabwe would soon be null and void and unenforceable within the borders of the territory of Matebeleland .With this Notice, everyone has been warned to exercise due diligence when engaging the Zimbabwe government on anything offered that resides or domiciled within the boundaries of the territory of Matebeleleland as defined by the Jameson Line of June 1891 that formalized and legalized the boundary between Matebeleland territory and Zimbabwe territory to avoid future disappointments and no further warnings shall be issued by M.L.O.

Regrettably, those who will buy the lies and assurances or guarantees from the Zimbabwe government contrary to this Notice shall run the risk of losing their investments or properties without compensation when the new government of The Republic of Matebeleland takes effect under the leadership of Matebeleland Liberation Organisation ie M.L.O. in due course.

We implore all Matabeles  to join hands  with MLO to fight for our freedom.

We need to unite and kick the government of Zimbabwe out of Matabeleland. We need to unite and kick out genocide, oppression, rapists, Shona domination, coups marginalisation, tribal hatred and corruption out of Matabeleland.

“New Dispensation Will Achieve Vision 2030” Insists Mnangagwa – And We Are To Bargain Our Rights For A Mirage, How Insulting!

By Nomusa Garikai- “The New Dispensation came with the clear goal to improve the plight of the majority of our people, through an elaborate agenda to reform, restructure and rebuild, towards achievement of Vision 2030. Undoubtedly, my Administration has faced many hurdles and attacks since inauguration.

“These included the divisive politics of some opposition elements, the illegal economic sanctions, cyclones, droughts and more recently, the deadly Covid-19 pandemic,” said President Emmerson Mnangagwa in his State Of the Nation Address.

The real nightmare, the now 40 years long nightmare, is being told that economic prosperity is just round the corner; when one can see this is just a lie. Meanwhile the country is sinking deeper and deeper into the abyss and one is totally helpless to do anything about it because those in power have their big boot on the nation’s neck,  the people are powerless and utterly helpless.

Zanu PF has enjoyed absolute power for 40 years, the regime has always blamed everyone and everything else for the country’s problems but not the regime. It has always claimed to have all the answers and demanded of us to give it time to implement the solutions. After 40 years of chasing this mirage the people must now stand up and demand their meaningful say in the governance of the country. NOW and not in the distant future.

Zanu PF did not hold free, fair and credible elections in 2018 and this must be addressed now because if it is not address it will leave the door open for Zanu PF to rig the 2023 elections and thus perpetuate the regime’s tyrannical rule.

“We will defeat the attack on our economy. We make no apology for fixing our economy across the political, social and economic spectrum.

We will continue to strike a balance between peace and stability and protection of civil rights on the other hand,” continued Mnangagwa

Nonsense, you have failed to fix the economy and are denying the people the basic freedoms and rights including the right to a meaningful say on who governs the the country to silence them. Indeed, you are denying the people the basic right to a free and meaningful vote, the right to protest the country’s worsen economic meltdown, etc. precisely because you have failed to address the economic challenges. The the people silenced you can continue to loot the nation blind!

“”Seek ye first the political kingdom and all else shall be added onto you,” advised Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the man who led Ghana to independence.

The late Robert Mugabe and his fellow Zanu PF cronies were inspired by Dr Nkrumah, at least in as much as they sought the political power for themselves. Mugabe saw to it that the ordinary Zimbabwean never even tasted any meaningful power.

Zanu PF made it abundantly clear that if the party lost the 1980 elections, the country’s first all race elections, the civil war would continue. And so the people were denied their first free vote as they had no choice but to vote to end the war. Once in power Zanu PF has sort to consolidate its grip on absolute power by undermining the country’s democratic institution and usurping the people’s political power, freedoms and basic rights.

Today, with the country’s economy in total economic meltdown if is clear we lost our political power back in 1980 and everything else has been taken away form us. And so if we are serious about ending corruption, reviving the economic, etc. we must first implement the democratic reforms and restore our right to a meaningful vote.

Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends focused on reviving the economy during the 2008 to 2013 GNU and forgot about implemented the democratic reforms. They were putting the cart before the horse and hence got nowhere as soon after the the GNU Zanu PF was back in power.

The opposition, Tajamuka and other human rights activists have been calling for street protests to demand an end to corruption, poverty, human rights abuse, etc. The number one demand has to been democratic reforms to restore all individual freedoms and rights including the right to free, fair and credible elections. For without meaningful political power everything else will be promised but never ever delivered.

Zanu PF blatantly rigged the July 2018 elections, just as the party has rigged elections since the 1980 elections. The regime has no mandate to govern, it is illegitimate and must step down.

What we want is democratic reforms leading to free and fair elections. Since Zanu PF will never implement the reforms, it has failed to do so in the past, the regime must step down to allowed others to do so.

“New Dispensation will improve people’s lives and deliver Vision 2030!” Well that is just a mirage and after 40 years of chasing one mirage after another it is insane to do so for one more day! It is an insult that our fundamental freedoms and rights should be bargained for an illusionary new dispensation vision 2030 mirage!

ZERA Hikes Fuel Price

By A Correspondent| Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) has hiked the price of fuel effective today Wednesday 5 August 2020.

According to ZERA, Diesel will now be sold for ZWL$83.36 while petrol is now pegged at ZWL$93.15.

There have been complains that ZERA is now prioritizing service stations selling in foreign currency while neglecting those selling in local currency which is very scarce.

“The #Zimbabwean LivesMatter Revolution Suffocating Mnangagwa”

By Knowledge Hakata- With the current Zimbabwean Lives Matter Movement, it will only take a miracle for President Mnangagwa to see the 1st of October, the famous crocodile current actions resemble the last kicks of a dying horse, the typical fall of Napoleon Bonaparte at Waterloo, I BET MY LAST BOND NOTE MNANGAGWA won’t be the President of Zimbabwe by year end, the man is at the deep end because of his own miscalculations and greedy.

The 31st of July marked the beginning of the end of Mnangagwa and his Zanu Pf regime, it was through his actions that birthed the now famous novel ZIMBABWEANS LIVES MATTER. The Zimbabwean Government is now at war with everyone all because of a psychopath called Mnangagwa, this man is very poor when it comes to political calculations.

Sooner demonstrations will start to mushroom and believe me they will come like a wind from the sea that will be too difficult for the combined poor police and army forces to contain. Zimbabwe is headed for a series of unstoppable violent demonstrations and Mnangagwa will be treated the way the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi was deposed from power.

A lot of current Zanu Pf heavy weights that includes former liberation war taxi driver Victor Matemadanda, Mutsvangwa, Obadiah Moyo, Patrick Chinamasa, VP Chiwenga, Oppah Muchinguru, Mnangagwa’s family will all flee into exile, the list is endlessly but a lot of people will flee Zimbabwe because the revolution that is coming is going to uproot Zanu Pf from its core. The coming revolution is going to wipe out the last descendants of this evil regime.

“A Different Perspective Of What VP Chiwenga’s Appointment Means”

By Maggie Dongo- Today the Zimbabweans have different perspectives or perception about the appointment of VP Chiwenga as the Minister of Health.

I personally would like to congratulate the President for this timeous move kkkkk it will help to solve all the problems that doctors, nurses and patience have in terms of addressing all the problems in our medical fraternity.

The question is how kkk Dignitaries will stop flying out to get treatments. The minister will make sure that he puts in place all what is needed available.

If not there is no doubt that those who face the same illness with him will be afforded a chance either to go to China or SA.

He will be forced to avail the same facilities he enjoyed outside Zimbabwe. There is no doubt that he is not going to fire doctors and nurses.

Time to reason with the masses.

Harare Magistrate Slams Police Misconduct

Police should have acted promptly over complaints that Delatfin Investments (Pvt) Limited director Felix Munyaradzi was involved in double allocation of residential stands in Sandton, Harare regional magistrate Mr Ngoni Nduna said yesterday.

He said the failure to act by the police was tantamount to misconduct as action should have been taken when the reports were initially made at Marlborough Police Station last October.

Munyaradzi, through his lawyer Wellington Pasipanodya, cross-examined Supt Ngorima and filed written submissions.

Fissures In ED’s Backyard As Party Launches Manhunt To “Fish Out” Zanu Pf July 31 Sympathisers

Fuel Shortage Cripple ZUPCO Fleet In Byo

STATE MEDIA: Scores of commuters in Bulawayo were left stranded yesterday as fuel shortages grounded most of the Zupco fleet.

The city has been facing acute fuel shortages which the Ministry of Energy and Power Development said was a nationwide crisis owing to foreign currency shortages.

Fresh transport problems started on Monday afternoon as there were very few buses and kombis servicing routes and many people opted to walk home.

At 6pm yesterday, which marks the start of the lockdown curfew, people were still queuing at some Zupco ranks waiting for transport, while a number of people walked home to suburbs as far as Cowdray Park.

Commuters who spoke to Chronicle said they expected better service from the bus company, which effected a 100 percent fare hike on Saturday.

Bus fare went up from $4 to $8, while a ride on the Zupco kombi now costs $16, from $8.

Yesterday morning, there were many people at bus stops in suburbs such as Sizinda, Tshabalala and Nkulumane, but buses and kombis were in no-show.

At around 9am, a few kombis came, but were overwhelmed by the high number of commuters needing transport.

Efforts to get a comment from Zupco chief executive officer Mr Evaristo Madangwa were fruitless as he was not responding to calls while Zupco Southern Region manager Mr Tinei Rwasoka was also not available for comment.

A Zupco official in Bulawayo who spoke on condition of anonymity said the fuel problem is caused by challenges accessing foreign currency.

“Foreign currency is the major problem, we need about 210 000 litres of fuel per week. Right now we got delivery of 40 000 litres, while another 100 000 is expected from Harare. It’s a difficult situation but the situation will improve soon,” said the source.

A Zupco kombi driver who identified himself as Phila Nkomo, plying the Sizinda-Tshabalala- City centre route, said they had been promised deliveries today.

“This could be my last trip. I’m running low on fuel, and there’s no chance of refuelling today, but at the depot they said maybe tomorrow (today), as a tanker is expected. But they just said maybe. It was not definite,” he said.

Commuters said they were worried about failing to get transport on their way back from the city centre after the curfew time had lapsed.

Ms Thelma Dube, a cashier at a local supermarket said she had run late for work but was assured by the fact that her colleagues had also reported having transport problems.

“I am supposed to be at work by 7 am daily. But right now, it’s past nine and I am still at the bus stop. I’m worried that I will have the same problem on my way back until curfew time starts. I may not have a problem in town as I wait at the rank with many people. But when I arrive in the township after six, I may get into trouble if I bump into police officers or soldiers and they won’t buy my story of having transport problems,” she said.

Another commuter, a health worker, who declined to identify herself, said she was late for her shift at a hospital where she was on day duty.

“Already I’m dragging my feet to work due to the ongoing crisis. The transport problem is worsening the situation. I’m considering just going back home and calling it quits for the day,” she said.

Said Mrs Linet Mhlanga: “The transport situation is affecting us seriously more so for us women who have to attend to house chores like bathing and cooking but I am tired. This issue must be addressed once and for all.”

FULL TEXT- “Corruption At All Levels Must Stop” Says Mnangagwa

My Fellow Zimbabweans,

The world is in crisis. Borders have been closed, trade has ceased and businesses negatively impacted by the deadly Covid-19 pandemic. The virus breaches borders, and knows no boundaries. This is the time when many in our country are looking for answers.

Your cries are not unique to our country, region or our continent. As elected leaders, we have to take the responsibility of providing solutions, ensuring stability and setting direction in the midst of it all.

The New Dispensation came with the clear goal to improve the plight of the majority of our people, through an elaborate agenda to reform, restructure and rebuild, towards the achievement of Vision 2030. Undoubtedly, my Administration has faced many hurdles and attacks since its inauguration.

These included the divisive politics of some opposition elements, the illegal economic sanctions, cyclones, droughts and more recently, the deadly Covid19 pandemic. Added to this, is economic aggression, local currency manipulation and detractors who fear the inevitable imminent success of our reforms.

All this was meant to undermine our projected economic growth and stability. As a result, we have had to constantly recalibrate our compass to ensure that we remain on course, and that the standard of life of the majority in our society gets better and better.

The direction we desire remains unchanged. Our goal remains clear and stable. Forward ever! This is the goal of peace, unity, stability, development, progress and prosperity.

Although our progress has been slowed down, rest assured that we shall achieve our objectives. We will overcome. We will defeat the attack and stop the bleeding of our economy. We will overcome attempts at destabilisation of our society by a few rogue Zimbabweans acting in league with foreign detractors.

The reforms, opening up, liberalisation and modernisation we began shall continue with accelerated pace. Those who promote hate and disharmony will never win. The bad apples that have attempted to divide our people and to weaken our systems will be flushed out.

Good shall triumph over evil. Fellow Zimbabweans, To achieve the prosperity we deserve, let us all unite, working together towards a common goal and dealing with each other in honesty and love. We make no apologies for fixing our systems across the socio, economic and political spectrum.

Accountability and transparency will keep on being enforced in every facet of our society. These values are, after all, the DNA of the Second Republic and must permeate all our institutions. Our political reforms have equally been guided by these twin concepts. We repealed and replaced POSA and AIPPA in the spirit of these ideals.

The new legislation, the Maintenance of Order and Peace Act (MOPA), was created after much deliberation and consultation.

My Administration remains committed to enhancing cooperation with friends and partners in the international community, as we entrench democracy and the rule of law within our jurisdiction. In this regard, we will continue to strive to achieve the delicate balance between the maintenance of peace and security on the one hand and protecting civil liberties and individual rights, on the other.

In all circumstances, public officials and the security services will carry out their duties with appropriate astuteness and resolve. The protection of the right to life is paramount, especially in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and machinations by destructive terrorist opposition groupings.

Our Monetary and Fiscal authorities will continue to work tirelessly to tame the economic turbulence we face.

We commend international financial partners who continue to provide invaluable expertise in this regard. Opportunities are being created across all economic sectors. The development agenda we began is taking shape in line with Vision 2030, and incorporates the youth and marginalised of our country, leaving no one behind.

Levelling of the economic development playing field is ongoing through our devolution policy. Reforms related to opening up the economy, and to empowering entrepreneurs as well as unleashing the creative potential of the private sector and SMEs, are bearing fruit.

Corruption at all levels must stop. Meanwhile, let us be consistent in all that we do. Through persistence and hard work, we will achieve a sustainable and prosperous future for all.

Zimbabwe has to get back to working efficiently again. Vision 2030 will become a reality. We owe it to ourselves and to future generations to succeed. Fellow Zimbabweans, The dark forces, both inside and outside our borders, have tampered with our growth and prosperity for too long. They have thrived on dividing us. Let us as a people embrace the call for patriotism, hard work, transparency, accountability, love, unity and peace.

Now is the time to embrace the opportunities before us with optimism and determination to transform and modernise our society. The door to the old manner of doing things is shut. The corrupt way is closed.

Let us therefore pledge, individually and collectively, to defend our country, to be productive, to grow our economy and never to tear our motherland apart by dividing its people. In unison we must proclaim that “Enough is enough. This is Zimbabwe, our Motherland and we will defend her from any form of attack.”

As your President, I vow to continue working harder and walking the talk towards the Vision we have set out.

Let us together cultivate a society of hope, and not despair; of inspiration instead of desperation. Unity in place of disunity, love in place of hate, and peace instead of disharmony and instability.

Drawing inspiration from our departed brave heroes and heroines, let us pursue with renewed fortitude and zeal, the journey we begun of reforming and rebuilding our motherland.

Emboldened by the tenacity that inspired our heroes to wage a war for our Independence, sovereignty, and the freedoms we enjoy today; let Zimbabwe strive towards a prosperous future. Now is the time to look forward, as one people-a united people.

Let us press on, with vigour and hope; hand-in-hand, being each other’s keepers. In unity and love nothing is impossible. Forward ever, backward never.

God bless you all. God bless Zimbabwe.

I thank you.

More Nurses Test COVID-19+

By A Correspondent- At least 20 nurses at Maphisa District Hospital in Matabeleland South province tested positive for coronavirus this week, sending the settlement, predominantly occupied by civil servants, gold miners and panners into a panic mode as some residents had contact with the affected health workers.

Provincial medical officer Rudo Chikodzore yesterday had not responded to questions sent to her before going to print.

However, a source in the health sector confirmed that 20 nurses tested positive, with one of them infecting her husband who works for a non-governmental organisation in Gwanda.

“Over 20 nurses are in self-isolation after the tests. The district is now a health time bomb because of the presence of a high number of gold panners who patronise the business centre,” he said.

This came as Agribank closed its Maphisa branch after an employee also tested positive to the virus.

In a memo to stakeholders and accountholders, Agribank said: “One of our staff members at Maphisa tested positive for COVID-19 following a routine test. The employee is stable and is now under isolation. The local COVID-19 rapid response team is now handling the matter as prescribed by the of Health and Child Care ministry and the World Health Organisation guidelines.

“Accordingly, a decision has been made to temporarily close Agribank Maphisa branch to allow disinfection to be conducted at the premises.”

The bank said this had now resulted in the rest of staff at the affected branch being sent on a 14day self-quarantine and compulsory polymerase chain reaction tests to ascertain their COVID-19 status.

Agribank said the branch’s reopening depended on consultations with the Matobo district COVID-19 rapid response team.

“VP Chiwenga Who Once Fired Over 16k Nurses Appointed To Reform A Decaying Health Sector”- Will He Deliver?

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa on Tuesday appointed his deputy Constantino Chiwenga as the new health minister, tasking him with reforming a decaying health sector amid a rise in Covid-19 infections and strikes by health workers.

Chiwenga replaces Obadiah Moyo who was removed from the post last month after allegations of corruption.

In April 2018, Chiwenga, in his capacity as head of the social services cluster, summarily dismissed an estimated 16 000 striking nurses after they rejected a plea from government to return to their posts, while negotiations for a salary adjustment continued.

This came after management at most major hospitals also joined the nurses’ industrial action.

Chiwenga, at the time, said the drastic measure was taken after the nurses continued with their strike which he alleged was now politically motivated even as Treasury had disbursed $17 114 446 to cover the outstanding salary arrears for nurses.

In his new role, Chiwenga will be required to “stabilise, restructure and reform” the national healthcare system, the government said in a statement.

The main opposition Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) immediately criticised the appointment, saying Chiwenga was not the right man for the job in a time of the coronavirus pandemic.

“The appointment of an unqualified sick man who’s routinely airlifted abroad for medical care is a slap in the face to Zimbabweans who deserve proper leadership during this Covid-19 pandemic. We object to this gross display of incompetence,” the MDC Alliance said in a statement.

On Monday, Mnangagwa named one of his army doctors Jasper Chimedza as the ministry of health’s new permanent secretary, after Zimbabwe went without one since May when Agnes Mahomva was reassigned following repeated clashes with Moyo.

Zimbabwe has recorded more than 4,000 Covid-19 cases and 80 deaths and health officials say infections will continue to rise for sometime.

Chiwenga spent four months in China receiving medical treatment for an unknown illness until November last year. He has returned three times since then for medical check-ups, according to government officials.

Chiwenga has previously taken a hard-line on striking doctors, once calling them “skilled technicians or labourers whose knowledge fits them for an occupation but not a profession”. He said this while threatening a law change to to ban doctors from going on strike.

EFF Exposes Mliswa’s Double Standards

South Africa’s Economic Freedom Fighters party has hit back at Norton legislator Temba Mliswa for trying to silence Julias Malema from speaking on the current Zimbabwean problems saying he at one time frequented their offices pleading for assistance to dethrone former President Robert Mugabe.

Mliswa has responded to Malema’s tweet in which he called for the closure of the Zimbabwean embassy in South Africa, saying he should allow Zimbabweans to sort out their own problems without external influence.

But Malema’s deputy Shivambu shot back saying Mliswa was changing principles for his own convinience by seeking to silence EFF which he equally approached for assistance to fight Mugabe.

Malema had tweeted that, “We call for the removal of the Zimbabwean Embassy in SA until they restore the human rights in that country. Failure to do so, we will prevent any official from the Zimbabwean government from participating in any gathering in SA until they respect ordinary Zimbabweans.”

In his response Mliswa said, “To my brother @Julius_S_Malema I say please allow us the room to deal with our issues whilst you focus on your own. I’m very much against abductions and am for constitutionalism and sincerely believe that as a country we can ride this rough patch out.”

Maimane said South Africa could not turn a blind eye to the plights of Zimbabwe as the AU leader of the moment.

HUMAN RIGHTS ABUSES IN ZIMBABWE: ONE SA URGES MINISTER PANDOR TO ISSUE A PEMARCHE ON ZIMBABWEAN AMBASSADOR DAVID HAMADZIRIPI

Disturbing reports of violence, intimidation. torture and detention without trial being carried out by the Zimbabwean government against citizens, opposition voices and journaists cannot go unchallenged.

Following Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s national address today, in which he sought to blame “western powers” for the country’s current woes. the people are Zimbabwe are left in fear and without answers.

As a leader in the SADC region. South Africa cannot turn a bind eye to such atrocities. Quiet diplomacy allows injustices to continue unabated. Now is the time for South Africa to regain its moral voice on the continent and denounce such actions perpetrated by the Zimbabwean government.

Until this point. current African Union (AU) chairperson. Cyril Ramaphosa has foiled in implementing the AU’s mandate “to promote and protect human rights on the continent” as per Article 3(h) of the Constitutive Act of the African Union.

The South African government must speak out and condemn the violent, inhumane and undemocratic actions of the ZANU•PF government in Zimbabwe and demand an end to such conduct.

I look forward to your response.

Yours Faithfully

Who Between Chiwenga And The Health System Needs To “Urgently Stabilise” The Other?

Ailing Constantino Chiwenga

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga has, with immediate effect, been appointed the new Minister of Health and Child Care by President Mnangagwa

VP Chiwenga takes over from Dr Obadiah Moyo who was sacked last month for inappropriate conduct.

In a statement yesterday, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Dr Misheck Sibanda said in appointing VP Chiwenga, President Mnangagwa noted the urgency needed to stabilise the health delivery system in the context of the Covid-19 pandemic where the country has registered an acute surge of cases.

The 63-year-old former army general has for the last two years been sporadically disappearing from the public eye on medical grounds.

Chiwenga as recently as a few weeks back was rushed to China for magical attention.

George Charamba, the spokesman for the presidency, said: “I can confirm that the vice president left for China for his medical check-up. Obviously, we can’t say how long that will take because that will depend on what experts say. But he is out of the country.”

He has since returned into the country.

Chiwenga spent the greater part of last year in hospitals in South Africa, India and China, where he received treatment for more than six months.

He told friends when he returned home in December that he had been treated for esophageal stricture, the abnormal narrowing of the esophagus which causes patients difficulties in swallowing and leads to dramatic weight loss.

Before his latest trip, he had returned to China at least once since December for what Charamba described as a “routine medical check-up”. The latest flight, however, in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic whose epicentre is China, would suggest that Chiwenga has a medical emergency that could not wait.

ZANU PF Youth League Leaders Suspended For Receiving Payments From Tajamuka To Join Protests Against Mnangagwa

The Zanu PF Youth League in Matabeleland North has suspended its chairman Tamuka Nyoni and another provincial member on allegations of receiving money from Tajamuka/Sesjikile to take part in the July 31 demonstration which was eventually foiled by a heavy army and police presence right round the country.

According to the party, some of its members were allegedly paid undisclosed amounts of US Dollars to mobilise within ZANU PF for people to march against President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

The youth league convened an urgent provincial executive meeting at the party’s Lupane office on Monday, where it was resolved that Nyoni and Elmer Sibanda be suspended from the party and the executive.

“Since it was clear that Cde Tamuka Nyoni was personally involved in organising demonstrations to unseat the Zanu PF government led by His Excellency, Cde E D Mnangagwa in conjunction with Tajamuka and other retrogressive organisations, he violated provisions of article 3 section 18 (1) to (5) of Zanu PF constitution.

“Therefore, provincial chairman of the youth league Tamuka Nyoni be issued with a prohibition order and be suspended from performing his duties as the provincial chairman pending the outcome of disciplinary hearing.”

The meeting also resolved that Nyoni returns all party property in his possession, while the league’s national vice secretary for legal affairs Sithandazile Moyo will be acting provincial chair.

The provincial youth league has recommended that the national executive discipline Nyoni and Sibanda.

Confusion As Mangudya Introduces Second Foreign Currency Auctions.

John Mangudya

Zimbabwe has introduced a second foreign exchange auction this time to cater for small and medium enterprises.

The auction will accept minimum bids of US$2 500 and maximum bids of US$20 000 and will kick of this Thursday.

Zimbabwe introduced the foreign exchange system to allow market rates to operate on 23 June with minimum bids of US$50 000 and maximum bids of UUS$500 000.

The Zimbabwe dollar kicked off at $57.36 and was down to $80.47 at today’s auction, the seventh auction.

According to a statement by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe bidders with positive balances in their nostro accounts that are equal or more than the foreign exchange that they want will be rejected.

Bidders must provide sufficient details of the purpose of the funds and description of goods or services to be paid for.

The current auction has narrowed the gap between the official and parallel market exchange rates.

The second auction is likely result in a further narrowing of the gap and should ultimately see the Zimbabwe dollar slowly firming against the greenback.

Social Media Hash Tag Gets Mnangagwa Agitated And Ready To Kill.

Heavily Armed Soldiers block citizens at every corner to protect Mnangagwa

The hashtag #Zimbabweanlivesmatter which has been used in local and international social media to draw attention to the wave of arrests and human rights abuses in Zimbabwe has got President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his goverment into a serious panic mode.

Mnangagwa has gone to the extent of labelling the main opposition party “terrorist” and vowed to continue a crackdown on his opponents.

Several opposition members and government critics have been arrested in recent days and rights groups allege security forces have carried out illegal abductions.

Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights says it has represented more than 20 people detained since last week, when the military and the police thwarted an anti-government protest that had been scheduled for Friday.

In an address on state television Tuesday, President Emmerson Mnangagwa described critics as “a few bad apples” that should be “overcome” and indicated that arrests would continue.

“We will overcome attempts at the destabilisation of our society by a few rogue Zimbabweans acting in league with foreign detractors,” he said, warning that “bad apples who have attempted to divide our people and to weaken our systems will be flushed out … Enough is enough.”

Mnangagwa made the speech as local and international pressure mounted on his administration over allegations of human rights abuses.

Mnangagwa Blames Everything And Everyone For His Shortcomings But Not Himself

Emmerson Mnangagwa

President Emmerson Mnangagwa has gone out on spree trying to defend his government’s failures claiming that he will in the end emerge victorious.

Mnangagwa blamed his failures on several hurdles in the form of natural disasters, successive droughts, divisive opposition politics and foreign economic aggression, he said.

In a surprise Address to the nation at State House on Tuesday morning, Mnangagwa noted that although the Second Republic made it crystal clear upon assumption of office that its mission was to improve the plight of the majority, through an elaborate agenda of reform, restructuring and rebuilding towards achievement of Vision 2030, hurdles have been strewn along the way.

He urged the nation to “cultivate a society of hope and not despair, of inspiration and not desperation, unity and peace and not disunity and love instead of hate”.

“The New Dispensation came with the clear goal to improve the plight of the majority of our people, through an elaborate agenda to reform, restructure and rebuild, towards the achievement of Vision 2030. Undoubtedly, my Administration has faced many hurdles and attacks since its inauguration.

“These included the divisive politics of some opposition elements, the illegal economic sanctions, cyclones, droughts and more recently, the deadly Covid-19 pandemic,” he said.

Mnangagwa said the country will overcome.

“Added to this, is economic aggression, local currency manipulation and detractors who fear the inevitable imminent success of our reforms.

“This is the goal of peace, unity, stability, development, progress and prosperity. Although our progress has been slowed down, rest assured that we shall achieve our objectives. We will overcome. We will defeat the attack and stop the bleeding of our economy. We will overcome attempts at destabilisation of our society by a few rogue Zimbabweans acting in league with foreign detractors.

“The reforms, opening up, liberalisation and modernisation we began shall continue with accelerated pace. Those who promote hate and disharmony will never win. The bad apples that have attempted to divide our people and to weaken our systems will be flushed out. Good shall triumph over evil,” he said.

The President, in his speech, implored Zimbabweans to work together in unity and love so as to disarm the dark forces both within and outside the country’s borders that thrive on disunity.

“The dark forces, both inside and outside our borders, have tempered with our growth and prosperity for too long. They have thrived on dividing us. Let us as a people embrace the call for patriotism, hard work, transparency, accountability, love, unity and peace.

“Now is the time to embrace the opportunities before us with optimism and determination to transform and modernise our society. The door to the old manner of doing things is shut. The corrupt way is closed.

“Let us therefore pledge, individually and collectively, to defend our country, to be productive, to grow our economy and never to tear our motherland apart by dividing its people. In unison we must proclaim that “Enough is enough. This is Zimbabwe, our Motherland and we will defend her from any form of attack,” he said.

Lovemore Madhuku Says Chiwenga’s Ministerial Appointment Is Very Constitutional

Professor Lovemore Madhuku

National Constitutional Assembly (NCA) leader, Lovemore Madhuku who is also a leading Constitutional law expert in the country has defended President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s appointment of Vice President Constantino Chiwenga as substantive Minister of Health.

Madhuku said there is precedent as the Concourt has already dealt with this issue before.

In 2014, when the then VP Emmerson Mnangagwa remained Minister of Justice, the NCA took  President Mugabe to the Concourt and the court ruled that Sections 99 and 103 of the Constitution must be read together.

“The Concourt has already dealt with this issue.  In 2014, when the then VP ED remained Minister of Justice, the NCA took  President Mugabe to the Concourt raising exactly the arguments being debated now. The Concourt said secs 99 and 103 must be read together,” said Madhuku.

“There are no short stories in law. The Concourt has previously said it is constitutional. It is most likely to say so again. That is the shortest I can go.”

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Nick Mangwana has challenged the viral #zimbabweanlivesmatter directed at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s human rights violations.

Mangwana pointed to the fact that Zimbabwe kept its borders open for its returning citizens some of whom were coming from countries like South Africa where there are subjected to xenophobia and all forms of atrocities that include the chilling necklacing.

Mr Mangwana

“Since the outbreak of Covid-19, thousands of Zimbabweans have been brought home because Zimbabwean lives matter. We are suffering because of this Covid-19 pandemic. The country even chartered planes to bring its citizens because our people matter,” said Mr Mangwana.
