The first lady Grace Mugabe’s foot soldiers Saviour Kasukuwere and Philip Chiyangwa are demanding $100 million from residents of Caledonia farm and Southlea Park in Harare and at the same time threatening to evict those who would have failed to contribute to what they are calling the development and compensation fees for the two state properties.
Both Kasukuwere and Chiyangwa are pushing for Grace Mugabe to succeed her 91 year old husband President Robert Mugabe to be the country’s next President.
They are however being resisted by vice President Emerson Mnangagwa who currently has the majority of cabinet ministers beefing his support in government.
Kasukuwere made the demands to Caledonia residents during his tour of the farm where he had gone under the guise of seeing “progress” made by the Harare city council which took over the affairs of the area from disgruntled pro-ousted former vice President Joice Mujuru aligned Zanu PF land barons who were also extorting desperate home seekers of their money.
“For this area to access service delivery, a total of $58 million is needed and that money must come from you,” he told residents after they had complained that they were not able to meet his demands.
“Each resident must pay US$50 monthly without fail if you want to access services such as water, roads and street lighting,” said Kasukuwere .
A similar incident is happening in Southlea Park where Philip Chiyangwa is demanding $42 million from residents as compensation for the area.
Chiyangwa is claiming to own Odar farm which was gazetted by government as state property in 2006.
Home to over 120 people, Caledonia was once a transit camp for 2005 Operation Murambatsvina victims.
