50 houses demolished
Harare city council has razed down more than 50 houses in Budiriro opposite High Glen Shopping centre
The houses which are under Tinopona Housing Cooperative are said to have been built on wet lands.
Heavily armed municipal police officers nearing 150 were seen destroying the buildings Thursday afternoon.
Combined Harare Residents Association has condemned the move saying it is illegal.
“The rate at which high glen demolitions are progressing, we estimate that at least 200 houses could be brought down by end of day if council does not stop”.
Harare city council spokesperson Michael Chideme could not be reached for comment.
