By Own Correspondent- Addressing MDC delegates at the ongoing MDC National Congress Saturday in Gweru, Chief Ndiweni implored citizens to understand the role of traditional leaders.
He said:
What is a leader… they must be clean… they must not be involved in corruption. The people have a misunderstanding of a chief. They believe that the chief is only there to hide himself in the corner, someone who does not speak.
My job title in the Constitution is to maintain and protect tradition and the norms of your people. That means Chief Ndiweni, when there is a child in your area, you must be concerned, when there is a funeral, you must be concerned, when the clinic in your area is not working, you should be concerned, when the roads are not working properly, you must be concerned. A traditional leader must speak about everything at anytime whatsoever, there is no subject that a traditional leader cannot speak about.”
