By A Correspondent- The High Court reinstated MDC Alliance vice president and former finance minister Tendai Biti and five other former PDP officials as MPs recalled from parliament early this year by MDC-T.

The high court ruled that the six’s recall from parliament by Mwonzora was null and void.

Biti who was in 2018 elected the Harare East legislator was together with other People’s Democratic Party (PDP) parliamentarians recalled in Parliament in March this year.

The Speaker of the National Assembly Jacob Mudenda said he had received notice from the PDP recalling Biti and several other opposition lawmakers.

In April, Justice Amy Tsanga ruled that Benjamin Rukanda, the man who initiated the recall of Biti, William Madzimure of Kambuzuma, Settlement Chikwinya — Mbizo, Kucaca Ivumile Phulu — Nkulumane, Sichelesile Mahlangu — Pumula and Regai Tsunga — Mutasa South was not a legitimate member of the PDP.

Rukanda then appealed against the order by Justice Amy Tsanga but the appeal was dismissed by Justice Tawanda Chitapi who found that it failed to comply with the rules.

Mwonzora has been recalling MDC Alliance MPs and Councillors since the March 2020 Supreme Court ruling on the MDC leadership crisis
which observed that Nelson Chamisa had violated the party’s constitution to attain the presidency.

MDC Alliance accuses the ruling Zanu PF of orchestrating the recalls to weaken the opposition party.
