Zimbabwe’s President Emmerson Mnangagwa has confidently declared that criticism from the opposition will never be enough to remove Zanu PF from power.
Speaking at his Precabe Farm on Sunday, Mnangagwa urged opposition parties to continue criticizing his government, claiming that their feedback actually strengthens Zanu PF by allowing them to correct their mistakes.
Mnangagwa’s comments were laced with irony, as he seemed to be taunting the opposition, saying that their criticism would ultimately ensure they remain in opposition.
“We love criticism from the opposition,” Mnangagwa stated, emphasizing how such feedback strengthens his party.
“I would like to urge the opposition to continue criticizing Zanu PF. This is because criticism helps us to correct our mistakes.”
He further added, with a tone of irony, “For you to remain in opposition, please continue criticizing Zanu PF,” prompting laughter from Parliamentarians present at the event.
This statement comes after Mnangagwa’s government has been accused of suppressing opposition and limiting freedom of speech.
The President’s remarks were made during a familiarization tour of his farm, which was attended by legislators from both the ruling party and the opposition.
