By Stanley Goreraza| We all remember the historical convergence of Zimbabweans of all backgrounds in the streets of Harare in the month of November 2017.
MDC and Zanupf held hands as Blacks and Whites partook from the same bottles of strong drink. It was so beautiful and for the first time in a very long time, the whole world cast it’s glance on Zimbabwe with beaming pride, sharing the joy of a nation emerging from 37 years of everything being about one man and what he and he alone wanted.
Zimbabweans celebrated thinking this marked the end of the mist of fear that covered their entire country. Fear of midnight abductions and disappearances! Fear of upsetting Mr Mugabe which carried severe consequences.
For 37 years Zimbabweans were terrified of Mr Mugabe and the spooks who acted on his behalf. His forced departure brought great relief to a terrified and traumatised population who viewed him as the seven headed Dragon which was cast from heaven.
I don’t know whom exactly President Mnangagwa thinks is his enemy, but those who recently abducted a teachers union leader and brutally assaulted him, are his enemies.
Such people will precipitate his downfall because in the end the buck stops with him. Fingers will be pointed at him and not those behind the criminal act and vile human rights violation.
There is law enforcement and then there are crimes against humanity. A fine line separates the two and if one is careless they can step out of line without noticing it. It is inexcusable and completely unacceptable.
The dream of a new start Zimbabwe cannot be betrayed by a few individuals carrying on the shameful legacy of Mr Mugabe which brought political and economic desolation.
President Mnangagwa, the people carrying out these satanic acts do so in your name. It is your name that gets associated with crimes against citizens blurring distinction between yourself and your predecessor. There has to be a difference between the Zimbabwe of now and the Zimbabwe before November 15 2017.
You do not preserve or bring peace and security through crimes and human rights violations. When citizens are terrified of security agents it means the security agents are armed criminals. Citizens should be made to feel safe by law enforcement authorities and not be afraid of them.
