“Constitution Says I Must Do It,” E.D On Compensations

Emmerson Mnangagwa

PRESIDENT Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday defended his government’s move to compensate white former commercial farmers for improvements on farmland seized during the 2000 fast-track land reform programme, saying the decision was a constitutional requirement.

Addressing a Zanu PF national youth indaba in Harare, Mnangagwa said he would not reverse the decision because the land redistribution programme was also irreversible.

This came after South Africa’s firebrand opposition Economic Freedom Fighters leader Julius Malema on Wednesday accused Mnangagwa of reversing the gains of the liberation struggle by bowing to international pressure and pledging to compensate the dispossessed white farmers.

Malema charged that the farmers deserved no compensation because they “stole the land from the locals”.

“In agriculture, the land reform programme is irreversible and section 72 of the Constitution is very clear in this regard. However, the same Constitution provides that no compensation is payable in respect of its acquisition, except for improvements effected on the land before its acquisition, Mnangagwa said.

He added: “For a long time, government has provided through the fiscus for such payments in respect of the said compensation on improvements of the land. Government will meet its obligations as outlined in the Constitution. But for the avoidance of doubt, we fought for land and there is no way we will retract our position with regards the land reform (programme). Neither will we betray our fellow comrades who lie in marked and unmarked graves, who paid the supreme sacrifice for this land.”

Speaking at the same event, Zanu PF youth secretary Pupurai Togarepi said Malema had no right to criticise the Zimbabwe government’s policies.

“Malema must know that as a people of Zimbabwe the land question is behind us. We have our land and we don’t need anybody from anywhere to tell us anything. He has to go back to school and we advise that he goes back to the ANC (African National Congress), a more progressive revolutionary party so that he remains an African.”

The ruling party youth leader vowed to roll out a programme to economically empower their peers through various agricultural programmes.

Mnangagwa urged the youths to utilise the innovation hubs set up a various public institutions of higher learning as well as the India-Africa Incubation Hub centre in Harare for economic empowerment.

The Zanu PF leader also expressed concern over the spiralling cost of living, adding that he would soon summon captains of industry to explain the current hikes in prices of most basic goods.

“Government notes the present wanton, upsurge and ever escalating unjustified increase in prices,” Mnangagwa said.

“We urge compatriots in industry, business and commerce to desist from this inhumane trend which has brought untold suffering and misery to our people. Government is in the process of meeting stakeholders in the sector for discussions around the issue.

“We cannot have the continued exploitation of our people by those who exhibit rent-seeking behaviour.”

Muzondo Suspended Over Indecent Assault Allegations

Pauline Gundidza

EDZAI Isu Trust has suspended its director Tafadzwa Muzondo, who recently appeared in court facing charges of indecent assault after allegedly fondling songbird Pauline Gundidza’s breasts during a function in Highfield, Harare last week.

Programmes officer Obrien Makore will be the acting director.

Muzondo was remanded to April 16 on $100 bail when he appeared before Mbare magistrate Stanford Mambanje on Wednesday.

Edzai Isu chairperson Patience Gamuchirai Tawengwa said in a statement yesterday that Muzondo would be on suspension pending the outcome of the court case, with the organisation also conducting its own hearing on the matter.

“The matter is before the courts and as we eagerly await for the outcome, we have suspended him pending the outcome of the case,” she said.

“As an organisation, we do not condone violence in whatever form, so we are taking this case seriously and expect him to clear his name in court before he can continue his duties. We will also constitute our own internal hearing as soon as the court case is finalised.”

Tawengwa said they observed the principle that a person was presumed innocent until proven guilty.

“In that regard, we will not second-guess the courts and will wait on the outcome of the case before issuing out further statements,” she said.

Tawengwa said the board was also committed to facilitating the formulation of an arts industry sexual harassment policy under the guidance of the Zimbabwe Women Lawyers
Association (ZWLA) and the Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC).

“Over the years, the trust has always intentionally sought to create a safe space for female artistes,” she said.

When Muzondo appeared in court this week, prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe alleged that on March 28, Gundidza was at Action Hub Studio where she had been invited as a guest
alongside other artistes.

The court heard that after the function, as Gundidza awaited transport with her friends, Mariane Kunonga and Rolland “Boss Kedha” Lunga, Muzondo allegedly remarked that Gundidza had beautiful breasts.

This annoyed the urban groover who then told her friends what had happened.

Kunonga and Boss Kedha allegedly warned the accused that it was not right to comment on someone’s breasts without her consent.

It is, however, alleged that Muzondo leaned towards the musician and fondled her breasts before going back to join his crew.

MDC Legislator Anele Ndebele Fumes Over State Media Reportage

By Own Correspondent| Magwegwe legislator, Anele Ndebele has criticised state media journalists for writing misleading headlines bent on defaming his character.

Ndebele said the journalists’ headlines implicated him in a bribery scandal.

Speaking before the parliament’s Mines and Energy Committee on Wednesday, Ndebele fumed:

“The Herald articles, whenever their (copies) went out on the streets, they would say ‘four members of the Mines Committee’, but we were not part of the Mines Committee at the time.

When you read the story, you do not need to be a lawyer chairman to tell that the story was written by an idiot…the title is going around the streets defaming us ‘four members of the Mines Committee’. That is attention grabbing.

I would like for this committee as I stated in my affidavit to remind journalists particularly in State owned media to go back to the ethics of journalism and practice.

We were all defamed and this has nothing to do with James Goddard. It has something to do with our rotten press in this country.”-NewZimbabwe

Next, Yoweri Museveni, “Your Days Are Numbered,” Declares Opposition

Robert Kyagulanyi

As the battle for the 2021 general elections draws closer, the man behind the People Power campaign, Kyadondo East MP, Robert Kyagulanyi has said President Museveni’s stay in power is numbered.

“I tell you (Museveni), your days are numbered. How can you say you went to the bush and fought for democracy yet you don’t even practice it in your NRM (National Resistance Movement) party even after 33 years?” Mr. Kyagulanyi said.

Mr. Kyagulanyi, who announced his intention to run for the presidency in 2021 general elections, asked the crowd in Arua to register for national identification cards so that they can be eligible to participate in 2021 elections and protect the votes as they did in last year’s Arua Municipality by-election.

“I ask you to have that same courage and be firm. Be assertive to your rights. Do the same like we did in August last year,” Mr Kyagulanyi said.

He lashed out at Museveni who said he should concentrate on his music career and not politics.

The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party’s topmost organ, the Central Executive Committee or CEC, endorsed President Museveni as its presidential flag bearer for the 2021 polls.

The constitutional court in July last year ruled in favor of removing the limit. Last month Uganda’s Supreme Court began hearing a petition to challenge this decision.

Museveni, who seized power at the head of a rebel army in 1986, once said leaders who “overstayed” were the root of Africa’s problems.

The move by NRM’s top organ to ring-fence the position of party presidential flag bearer for Mr. Museveni follows a similar resolution by the national association of districts and lower local government councils under the Uganda Local Government’s Association (ULGA).

Uhuru Kenyatta Offered To Harbour Al Bashir

Uhuru Kenyatta with Omar Al Bashir

Two months ago, while what started as a series of demonstrations in several Sudanese cities due to spiraling costs of living and deterioration of economic conditions quickly ossified into a revolution- Kenya’s President Uhuru Kenyatta vowed to stand firm with the hitherto disgraced strongman- Omar al- Bashir.

Around that time two months ago- in February to be precise, al-Bashir declared a state of emergency and dissolved the national and regional governments, replacing the latter with military and intelligence-service officers. On 8 March, al-Bashir announced that all of the women jailed for protesting against the government would be released.

On the weekend of 6–7 April, there were massive protests for the first time since the declaration of the state of emergency. On 10 April, soldiers were seen shielding protesters from security forces and on 11 April, the military removed al-Bashir from power in a coup d’etat.

Fallen Sudan dictator  Omar Al-Bashir was welcome to Kenya even as other nations shunned him following his war crimes indictment.

On February 6, as protests raged across Sudan, President Uhuru Kenyatta assured Bashir of Kenya’s support as calls mounted for him to quit. With his 30-year-old grip on power severed- at-least partially- Kenya is the country that Bashir now under house arrest is most welcomed to.

“Kenya will continue to support Sudan as it manages its internal affairs because the sovereignty of all Igad (Intergovernmental Authority on Development) member states is something of great importance to us. As a member of Igad, Sudan is a pillar of stability in the region,” President Kenyatta said. The President spoke as he received a special message from the 75-year-old leader, which was delivered by Vice-President Osman Mohammed Yousif at State House, Nairobi.

On April 11 last year, Deputy President William Ruto met Al-Bashir in Khartoum where they held bilateral talks that focused on trade.“I take this opportunity to ask Kenya to consider purchasing uniforms, including those of the military, from our country as we commit ourselves to increasing purchase of tea from your country,” Bashir was quoted telling Ruto.

Under Uhuru’s regime, a US report revealed in 2016 that South Sudan President Salva Kiir and former Vice-President Riek Machar, fierce rivals in a civil war that has claimed tens of thousands of lives, maintain family homes a short distance from one another in a wealthy Nairobi neighbourhood.

In addition, large sums of money was reportedly moved through accounts in Kenyan banks held by major figures in South Sudan’s calamitous conflict, says the report by The Sentry, a watchdog group co-founded by Hollywood actor George Clooney.

A compound occupied by members of President Kiir’s family sits inside a gated community in Lavington, “one of Nairobi’s most upscale neighbourhoods,” states the 65-page report entitled “War Crimes Shouldn’t Pay.”

The extensive property was found to include a two-storey, pale yellow villa that is more than 5,000 square feet in size.

Dr Machar, the leader of South Sudan’s armed opposition, also has family members living in a luxury home in Lavington, says the report.

This property includes “a large backyard with a large stone patio and a teardrop-shaped, in-ground swimming pool,” reveals The Sentry. The Machar property “is located a short drive from the Kiir home,” notes the report.

Four of President Kiir’s grandchildren attend a private school in a Nairobi suburb that costs about $10,000 (Sh1 million) a year, The Sentry adds, citing a “knowledgeable” anonymous source. “President Kiir officially earns about $60,000 per year,” The Sentry points out.

Posts on social media show Kiir family members “riding jet skis, driving in luxury vehicles, partying on boats, clubbing and drinking in the Villa Rosa Kempinski — one of Nairobi’s fanciest and most expensive hotels — all during South Sudan’s current civil war,” says the report.

Not left behind is the family of General Paul Malong Awan, chief of staff of South Sudan’s army, described in the report as “the architect of immense human suffering” in the course of the conflict. His family owns a villa in an upscale community within Nyari Estate in Nairobi.

When the said Malong fell sick, Uhuru rushed to his hospital bed.

“The home includes marble floors throughout, a grand staircase, numerous balconies, a guest house, an expansive driveway and a large, in-ground pool,” states the report.

Prostitutes Protest Against Prostitution

DURBAN – A group of working and former prostitutes gathered at the Durban High Court this morning to protest against the trade being decriminalised.

Inside court, the man accused of murdering Siam Lee by burning her to death, along with a raft of other charges, was about to appear in the dock ahead of his trial. He is out on bail. He has not yet pleaded.

“This case is evidence that prostitution can never be made safe,” said Mickey Meji, founder of the country-wide sex worker survivor movement, Kwanele, who led the protest, and reiterated her concern against the decriminalisation of sex work.

Lee disappeared from a brothel in Durban North early last year and was found two weeks later, burned to death, in a sugar cane field near New Hanover, in the Midlands.

“We are calling on the President not to offer us to men, pimps and brothel owners to be bought and sold and exploited as a solution to systematic failures and that he actually addresses the systematic failures of the Republic of South Africa,” said Meji.

Meji added that the pro-decriminalisation lobby comprised “academic people who use figures and numbers and posh English” and that those at the coal face were not heard “simply because we are not educated”.

“Prostitution in South Africa bears the face of poor, black women from disadvantaged backgrounds with limited levels of literacy.”

Kwanele proposes that plans should be made to enable such women to take up proper employment.

“The Second Republic, Under Mnangagwa, Is Rolling Out Freedoms In All Spheres”

PREPARATIONS for the 39th Independence Day celebrations are at an advanced stage amid calls for President Mnangagwa’s administration to maintain the level of liberalism and freedoms being enjoyed under the Second Republic.

The nation celebrates Independence Day next Thursday.
The Second Republic, under the stewardship of President Mnangagwa, has been rolling out freedoms in all spheres, a complete departure from the previous era.

This year’s celebrations follow the peaceful, free and fair elections held last July where political parties campaigned and held meetings freely while Zimbabweans can openly critisise Government without fear of retribution.

As the reform agenda gathers momentum with the intention of attaining Vision 2030, democratic space has been opened up and Government is repealing statutes such as the Public Order and Security Act (Posa) with the Maintenance of Peace and Order Bill while the Protection of Personal Information Bill is repealing the Access to Information and Protection of Privacy Act (Aippa).

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa yesterday said preparations for the Uhuru celebrations were progressing well.
The celebrations will be held under the the theme: “Zimbabwe @39; Embracing Devolution for Vision 2030”.

“Preparations are at an advanced stage and almost all the things are in place,” Minister Mutsvangwa said.

“This is an important event for us as it is the first after our harmonised elections in the Second Republic and we are encouraging all the people to attend regardless of political afficiliation. The main event will be at the National Sports Stadium in Harare and we are also working to ensure the events in all the 10 provinces take place well. Entertainment has been lined up and it will be a day to remember.”State media

“Ignoring The Issue Will Not Make It Go Away, ” Mnangagwa Buys Into Chamisa’s Manifesto And Rushes To Compensate White Farmers.

Nelson Chamisa

Own Correspondent|President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his finance Minister Mthuli Ncube have all but bought into the opposition MDC leader Nelson Chamisa’s election promise that former white farmers will urgently need to be compensated for all the improvements on the land they lost during the land resettlement exercise.

Chamisa spoke vividly on the issue of the compensations during his campaigns and emphasised the issue as a priority in the MDC Government.

Said Chamisa, “Our manifesto is clear. The 99-year leases have failed to satisfy the banks. We need a quick land audit followed by title deeds to all resettled farmers. Land freed up by the audit will go to new beneficiaries. All former white farmers must be fully compensated for their losses.”

President Mnangagwa’s government sees the paying of compensation to white farmers as key to mend ties with the West, and has set aside $17.5 million in this year’s budget to that end. The initial payments will target those in financial distress, while full compensation will be paid later.

“The registration process and list of farmers should be completed by the end of April 2019, after which the interim advance payments will be paid directly to former farm owners,” Government said on Monday.

Zimbabweans from different walks of life have condemned the government’s decision to compensate white farmers forcing President Mnangagwa to clarify that he is not paying farmers for the land but for the improvements done on the land.

Drama As Man Snatches Neighbour’ s Wife

BUTHOLEZWE Nxumalo is heartbroken after his wife of about 10 years reportedly eloped to her married lover who is also their neighbour.

Narrating his ordeal, Nxumalo of Ziyadinga Village in Esigodini said he was still to come to terms with his wife Samkeliso Dlamini’s decision to take the Biblical advice “love thy neighbour” the other way round when she deserted him to co-habit with their neighbour.

Nxumalo exposed his wife after she approached the court seeking a protection order against him claiming he was verbally and physically abusing her.

“I was married to Butholezwe Nxumalo since 2010. On 16 February this year, I was arrested for looting and when I went home on 13 March after being released from prison, Butholezwe started harassing me while accusing me of infidelity. He accused me of lying to him that I was in prison.
“He hit me on the face with fists.

I reported the matter to the police who later referred me to hospital for medication. When I went back home I was shocked when I found him with another woman in our matrimonial bedroom. Out of anger I chased that woman away, and was surprised when he followed her and never came back.

“He came back home after some days and during my absence and took some of the household property and keys to our shop,” complained Dlamini.

She insisted that she left her husband because she did not want to continue living in an abusive relationship.
Meanwhile, Nxumalo didn’t refute his wife’s abuse claims saying it started after he discovered that she was dating their married neighbour. He said he was shattered when he discovered that his wife had dumped him for the married neighbour.

“She moved out after I discovered that she was dating our neighbour who is also married. I am now staying alone after she eloped with that married neighbour. I can confirm that I assaulted her and this was after I confronted her on why she was dating a married man and destroying another woman’s marriage.

“I was also shocked when I discovered that she had been arrested together with her married lover. As a family, we once had a meeting over her adulterous relationship and it was also after she secretly sold our five beasts and spent the whole money with her lover. It is now clear that she no longer loves me after she moved on with our neighbour and I don’t have a problem with that,” responded a livid Nxumalo.State media

CHAMISA ELECTION PETITION LATEST: CHIEF JUSTICE LUKE MALABA STILL WITHHOLDLING JUDGEMENT REPORT 8 MONTHS RUNNING

Almost eight (8) months after the Apex court heard the matter in front of millions of Zimbabweans locally and abroad, the Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe, led by Chief Justice Luke Malaba, is yet to deliver its full judgment in Advocate Nelson Chamisa’s elections petition.

Walter Nyabadza queries why Chief Justice Malaba has not yet published the full judgement in the opinion article below.

Writes Nyabadza:

“The Constitutional Court of Zimbabwe, led by Chief Justice Luke Malaba, is yet to deliver full judgment in Advocate Nelson Chamisa’s elections petition,it has emerged.

This comes almost eight (8) months after the apex court heard the matter in front of millions of Zimbabweans locally and abroad.

When asked to comment on the Constitutional Court proceedings, the International Commission of Jurists (ICJ) responded, through its Africa Programme Director Arnold Tsunga, “We are aware that the African Judges and Jurists Forum (AJJF) issued an exit statement that focused on procedural aspects of the case and not the substance of the outcome.

The fact that the case was held in open court and parties to the dispute given equal time to present their cases and that the decision was handed in open court and within the timelines provided for by the law is the reason why the AJJF possibly came out that way on exit.

However since the court did not hand the full judgment with reasons it is better to wait for the full judgment and reasons for such judgment before we comment on substantive aspects of the judgment.

At this stage we were surprised by the order of costs against the litigant as that is not normally done in matters where the application is not frivolous and involves a significant public interest issues as this one did.”

In Zimbabwe, the Courts can go for several months, if not years, without handing full judgment in a case.

It still remains to be seen how long it will take Zimbabwe’s apex Court to deliver full judgement with reasons in this much publicised electoral challenge.

THE Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has threatened to deregister driving schools that do not meet stipulated standards.

In a telephone interview, TSCZ communications manager Mr Tatenda Chinoda said with effect from May 1, the TSCZ will conduct an inspection of all driving schools countrywide.

“The TSCZ will, in accordance with SI309 of 1985, carry out a compliance inspection of all driving schools .The countrywide exercise will be carried out by inspection teams from our various regional offices. All principals and proprietors are expected to provide up to date vehicle registers, instructors’ registers and student registers to the inspectors,” he said.

Mr Chinoda said all vehicles in use must display a valid certificate of road worthiness, vehicle badge and a board with adequate information.

“Any driving school that does not adhere to these standards is going to be deregistered. As soon as we do so, we alert the Vehicle Investigation Department (VID) as well the Zimbabwe Republic of Police (ZRP) to make sure that culprits cease operating,” he said.

Mr Chinoda said 90 per cent of road fatalities recorded in the country are caused by drivers’ errors which has pushed the traffic council to investigate how these drivers obtain licences.

“Driver error accidents are on the rise and it is very worrisome. 90 per cent of road deaths are caused by drivers who act recklessly. We are saying we have to trace these drivers if they are being trained by licensed schools or by bogus people who do not impart competence-based lessons,” he said.State media

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa has promoted two Brigadier-Generals to the rank of Major-General and one Air Commodore to Air Vice-Marshal.

Gvt Spokesperson Maintains Zim Is Under “Sanctions”

Farai Dziva|Government spokesperson Nick Mangwana says nobody should dispute the fact that Zimbabwe is under sanctions.

Zanu PF bigwigs are facing restrictive measures as a result of human rights violations.

“There are a lot of things we disagree on as Zimbabweans. It’s understandable we are diverse and hold different views. But can we at least agree on this one reality and we can discuss the wherefore later; Zimbabwe is Under Sanctions.”

“On one hand both the UK and EU say there are no sanctions against Zim, on the other hand the British are grappling on how to continue to impose sanctions on us outside the EU framework and still claim that they are not sanctions. But their legal instruments term them Sanctions,” claimed Mangwana.

Warriors To Face Mighty Pharaohs

ZIMBABWE’S Warriors will open the 2019 AFCON finals with a showdown against Mohamed Salah and his Pharaohs of Egypt at the Cairo Stadium on June 21 in a repeat of the national team’s first match at the continent’s premier football showcase in Tunisia 15 years ago.

The Warriors were the first team to be picked at the draw, held against a spectacular background of the Pyramids, and were immediately thrust into Group A which is headlined by the hosts who will be staging the tournament for the first time in 13 years.

Sunday Chidzambwa and his troops will also have another duel against the DRC, who were in their qualifying group, and Uganda, in a tough Group A.

The Warriors took four points from the Congolese, beating them 2-1 in Kinshasa before the two teams battled to a 1-1 draw at the National Sports Stadium where Knox Mutizwa’s goal, which could have given the hosts a two-goal lead, was controversially disallowed by Egyptian match officials.
And, at the end of the qualifiers, the Warriors found themselves enjoying a two-point cushion, at the top of their group, having the luxury of knowing that even if they had donated the three points they won in Kinshasa to the DRC, they would still have made it to the AFCON finals.

The Warriors have played the Pharaohs at the Nations Cup before – the Egyptians were the first opponents Chidzambwa and his men faced in their first game at the AFCON finals in Tunisia in 2004 in a match the Pharaohs won 2-1.State media

A GWANDA Central parliamentary candidate for the Zimbabwe Partnership for Prosperity (ZIPP) in last year’s elections has been sentenced to 18 months in prison for conning residents of about RTGS $800.

The remaining nine months were further suspended on condition that he pays $824 restitution to the complainants.

Prosecuting, Miss Faith Mutukwa said between July 27 last year and March 6 this year, Lunga collected money from five people that were looking for houses to rent.

“On 27 July Ms Sinenkosi Mikazhu sent a message on AmaJahunda Whatsapp Group indicating that she was looking for a house to rent. Lunga responded on the group and said he had a house that was for rent and claimed the house belonged to him. Ms Mikazhu paid $160 through EcoCash to Lunga and went to clean the house in preparation to move in.

“The caretaker of the house heard that there was someone at the house and went to check and found Ms Mikazhu. The two realised Lunga had conned Ms Mikazhu. On 2 February Mr Velile Moyo posted on the same Whatsapp group that he was looking for a house to rent and Lunga responded and said he had a house. Mr Moyo paid him $125 EcoCash for the house and later realised that he had been conned,” she said.

Miss Mutukwa said on March 3 Mr Jobe Mabhena posted on the same group looking a house to rent and paid $140 to Lunga. She said Mr Mabhena later learnt that the house did not belong to Lunga and that he had conned him. She said on March 6 Mr Ephraim Moyo posted on the same Whatsapp group looking for a house to rent and paid $179 to Lunga and later realised he had been conned.

Miss Mutukwa said on March 10 Ms Sikhulile Moyo posted on the group looking for a house to rent and paid $220 to Lunga. She said the complainants reported the matter to the police who carried out investigations resulting in Lunga’s arrest.

As if that was not enough, Lunga went on to threaten state media reporter, Reboni Noko if she published the story.

“I was going to the shops before Jackson Lunga confronted me and threatened me. He said if I proceed and write fake news about him, he will deal with me,” Noko narrated her ordeal.

She added that the politician also threatened to cut short her career.

“He said I must remember that he can easily tarnish my image and destroy my career,” said the journalist.

ZCTU Divided Over MDC A Congress?

A showdown is looming between the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions (ZCTU) and its membership over the labour representative body’s decision to join MDC-Alliance ahead of the embattled party’s crunch congress next month to elect new leadership, The Herald has learnt.

The turmoil brewing in the labour body comes after MDC-Alliance resolved at its national standing committee (NSC) meeting to allot a quota of posts to the trade union.
The resolution irked the trade union’s general council members, who expressed alarm over conspiracies by the ZCTU leadership to conflate labour and opposition politics.

According to documents gleaned by The Herald, ZCTU president Mr Peter Mutasa and secretary-general Mr Japhet Moyo are being accused of abusing their authority by unilaterally forcing the labour body to join opposition politics.

Mr Mutasa reportedly wrote to MDC-Alliance leader Mr Nelson Chamisa, formalising the request for the allocation of a quota of posts in the opposition party.
“The request was discussed and approved during the MDC NSC meeting which was held at the Morgan Richard Tsvangirai House on 5 April 2019,” reads the document.State media

Senior Gvnt Official Denied Bail For Looting Cyclone Idai Aid Weeps In Court

By Own Correspondent| A top government official who allegedly stole an assortment of Cyclone Idai donates wept in court uncontrollably after she was denied bail.

Christine Chideme (63), a deputy director in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development was arrested after being found with goods worth $3 000 that were donated by well-wishers towards Cyclone Idai survivors.

Chideme appeared before resident magistrate Mr Farai Gwitima who remanded the matter to April 17.

The public prosecutor, Themba Dhliwayo, told the court that Chideme was coming from Silver Stream command centre and driving Toyota Landcruiser (WAG-CD23) heading to Chipinge when she was flagged by Terrence Majonga, a soldier. Said Dhliwayo:

Majonga requested to search the vehicle and the accused person accepted.

She told Majonga that she was carrying some groceries which were on a voucher she was given by members of the civil protection committee at Silver Stream in Chimanimani.

After finalising the search Majonga found out that the groceries which were written on the voucher were fewer than the goods loaded in her vehicle. Upon interrogation, Chideme failed to give a satisfactory statement leading to her arrest.

Some of the goods which were stashed at the back of the vehicle included 6×35g peanut butter, 3×30 cotton pads, 6×10 Happy pads, 11×500ml Bonaqua mineral water, 2×125 Tanganda tea three leaves, 4×2,5kg porridge, 12×125g Arenel biscuits, 4×2,5 tsabanga porridge, 5×2kg rice, 2×6 pack candle, 8 boxes of 6×25g bathing soap,1kg mega salt, 6×2litre orange crush and 12 pure drop cooking oil.

Transform Zimbabwe President Jacob Ngarivhume Speaks On Sudanese “Coup”

By Own Correspondent| Transform Zimbabwe President Jacob Ngarivhume says Zimbabweans should draw lessons from Sudan where the military staged a coup against long-time strongman Omar Al-Bashir on Thursday.

The Sudanese people have rejected the proposal to form a Transitional Military Council to govern the country for the next two years. The citizens have demanded a civilian government now.

Said Ngarivhume:

“The Sudanese people are now demanding a civilian transitional authority because they have learnt from the last 5 coups that the Military Is not meant for governance.

I hope it doesn’t take Zimbabwe 50 years. Zimbabwe badly needs a Civilian Transition authority without political leaders.

Zimbabwe has a deficit of people who are honest driven political leaders. It appears people are willing to do and say anything for political positions and such people can never be trusted with the nation.

It is also important to come to terms with the fact that Freedom for our nation will never come through the ballot box. For freedom to come through the ballot we would need reforms in the electoral system. I can confidently say that ZEC is a ZANU PF entity and it will never reform voluntarily.

Reforms also have to be pushed through in PARLIAMENT and OPPOSITION does NOT have the numbers to push such reforms and as long as opposition continues to field double candidates and self-sabotage there will never be enough numbers to push for reforms in Parliament and this reality faced by all instead of lying to ourselves about a Victory in 2023.

Sometimes facing our reality instead of entertaining unrealistic notions is important. facts to face when it comes to ZANU PF.

ZANU PF will never change, ZANU PF will never Reform, ZANU PF will always promise you the moon and the stars but you never get anything and if ZANU PF gives you something there is a price tag on it and they will collect.

Zimbabweans need to understand that we are in this together, Black, White Asian, Shona or Ndebele we must be UNITED.

ZANU PF will never relinquish power through the ballot. ZANU PF Is already planning how they will rig the next election.

They are ten steps ahead as ZANU PFs Primary business is the business of staying in POWER. Somewhere in the ZEC Office, the Presidential results for 2023 are already being plotted.

The toughest reality we must face is that it will probably take a people-driven revolution to remove ZANU PF. meaning we the people will have to take the lead in getting our lives and the future of our children back from the grip of ZANU PF.

When a politician or Political party says they will win in 2023 be good to yourselves Zimbabweans and ask them, What reforms have they pushed or currently pushing that will ensure the elections are free and fair and that ZEC will announce opposition as the winner? If the answer is in the negative, then the chances of winning are next to none.”

MDC Congratulates Sudan Over Ouster Of Dictator Omar Al Bashir

By Own Correspondent| Opposition MDC has congratulated the Sudanese people for pushing for the removal of the country’s long-time dictator Omar Al Bashir.

Below is the full text of the MDC statement:

“The MDC congratulates the people of Sudan for successfully pushing for the removal of a longtime dictator, Omar Al Bashir.

Despots must fall in no particular order. They defined African politics and defined it in the wrong way.

On his part, Al Bashir was involved in crimes against humanity.

He must be held accountable for the genocide and civil war. Everyone else who did the same must be subjected to the justice delivery system in line with International Law.

We are, however, quick to mention that the AU must be worried that elections in Africa have ceased to be the basis of authority.

Modern functional states exist on the sole basis of a liberal construct in which the masses are the masters of their own destiny by choosing those who govern them.

The focus must be to ensure a smooth civilian transition. The AU must urgently underwrite the process otherwise left on its own, the process may develop into a military State.

In Zimbabwe, the push for Mugabe to leave office which had gone for close to two decades was hijacked by the military and now the people have to fight again.

This pattern must not be allowed to happen as it will be bad for the citizens of Sudan. We speak from experience as this anarchy is bad for the continent.

Mutodi Clarifies On White Farmers’ Compensation, “We Are Mending Relations With The West”

By Own Correspondent| Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Information, Media and Broadcasting Services, Energy Mutodi said that the government’s decision to compensate white former commercial farmers is meant to mend relations with Western countries.

Mutodi was speaking to a local publication in response to utterances made by South African opposition politician, Julius Malema.

Malema told South African journalists in Johannesburg on Wednesday that President Emmerson Mnangagwa has sold out Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle by compensating the whites and will not finish his term in office.

Said Mutodi:

“Government is clearing all obstacles that have hampered cordial and co-operative relations with Britain and the whole European Union bloc. The Second Republic is focusing on re-engagement.

The compensation of the former white farmers is necessary to instil investor confidence. We are implementing a number of reforms that ensure that we create a clear break from the past and lay a firm foundation for investment. That is the (direction) this government has taken.

We are compensating for improvements and not for the land itself and it’s only fair that we handle the land issue in that manner so as to bring finality to the land reform exercise that has caused a lot of disquiet and lack of confidence in our commitment to the rule of law.”-Newsday

“Dialogue Is Not Power Sharing”: Zanu Pf Youth Wing Tells Opposition

By Own Correspondent- Zanu Pf’s 55 year old youth leader Pupurai Togarepi has warned opposition political parties against mistaking dialogue with President Emmerson Mnangagwa as a power sharing platform.

Togarepi, added that Zanu Pf had been given the sole mandate to rule by the people of Zimbabwe hence should not share power with any political party.

He said Mnangagwa was a good and accommodating leader who welcomed dialogue but the youth wing would not tolerate power sharing by “their elected leader”.

Said Togarepi:

“You are our President you saw it fit to talk to all of them (opposition political parties). But as the youth league, we do not want all those who hear about dialogue to think that it is negotiation. Dialogue we can talk, we can interact, we can hear their views but the mentality that the power that was given to Zanu Pf by the people of Zimbabwe can be shared, that mentality should be thrown away.”

Gvnt Rejects Senior Director’s Resignation

By Own Correspondent| Government has rejected the resignation of senior director in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development.

Angeline Karonga handed in her resignation letter a few days after corruption charges were levelled against her.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Development Joel Biggie Matiza told the state media that Karonga tendered her resignation at a wrong time as she has a case pending before the courts.

Said Matiza:

Yes, her resignation was turned down until her case which is before the courts are finalised. Her resignation letter states that she has served long enough and wants to resign, but it was felt that she should wait for the finalisation of her case.

Karonga is currently on bail on corruption charges. She was jointly charged with Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe general manager David Chawota.

The duo allegedly used a company they had formed, called Akodac Consultancy Services in 2009 which was awarded a tender by the Zimbabwe Road Admisitrauon Authority (ZINARA) in the same Ministry were Karonga is a director.

The company was then contracted to supply bitumen to Zinara and was paid US$1 234 004,72.8.-StateMedia

“Respect National Boundaries”: Malema Warned

By Own Correspondent| Permanent Secretary in the Information ministry Nick Mangwana has blasted neighbouring South African opposition political parties against interfering in the country’s national issues.

He implored the opposition parties to respect Zimbabwe’s sovereignty and stop the “big brother mentality”.

The statement follows EFF leader, Julius Malema’s recent utterances where he blasted President Emmerson Mnangagwa for wanting to reverse the land reform program.

Said Mangwana:

Memories Of Gukurahundi Atrocities “Tormenting” Mnangagwa

Farai Dziva|Expecting Mnangagwa to resolve the Gukurahundi issue is like hoping that a mosquito will treat malaria victims, a ZAPU official has said.

Mnangagwa played a pronounced role in the Gukurahundi atrocities, according to ZAPU.

ZAPU spokesperson Iphuthile Maphosa attacked Mnangagwa for toying around with the sensitive matter.

“Mnangagwa can never be sincere on Gukurahundi because it is on him. How does a mosquito invent a cure for malaria and compensate those it already killed?

That’s why this whole discussion rushes to healing while glossing over acknowledgement, responsibility taking, justice and reparations. It’s all a huge joke and Mnangagwa is simply continuing with his deception as he buys time in as far as facing justice for Gukurahundi is concerned,” Maphosa said .

Tribal War Erupts In Chiredzi

Farai Dziva|A tribal war has erupted in Chiredzi District as Shangani people in the area battle with Shona speaking teachers ” for territorial supremacy.”

Angry Shangani people have vowed to fight for the removal of Shona speaking teachers from Chiredzi District.

Last week Chief Tshovani declared that he would fight tooth and nail to remove Shona speaking teachers from his area.

“This is unfair, we have our ethos and values yet the government continues to deploy Shona speaking teachers to Chiredzi District.

We are in the process of negotiating with the responsible government officials because we no longer want Shona speaking teachers here,” said Chief Tshovani.

“The deployment of Shona speaking teachers is affecting our cultural values and beliefs. The teachers who are coming here cannot utter even a single Shangani word,” added Chief Tshovani.

LIVE: Sudan’s Coup Leader Steps Down A Day Later

VIDEO LOADING BELOW..

BBC – The head of Sudan’s military council has stood down a day after leading a coup that toppled long-time leader Omar al-Bashir amid a wave of protests.

Defence Minister Awad Ibn Auf announced his decision on state TV. He named as his successor Lt Gen Abdel Fattah Abdelrahman Burhan.

It comes after protesters refused to leave the streets, saying the coup leaders were too close to Mr Bashir.

The army has said it will stay in power for two years, followed by elections.

Mr Bashir’s downfall followed months of unrest that began in December over rising prices. At least 38 people have died in the protests.

Mr Ibn Auf was head of military intelligence during the Darfur conflict in the 2000s. The US imposed sanctions on him in 2007.
Protesters in Khartoum celebrated his departure.
The Sudan Professionals Association, which has been spearheading the protests, said Mr Ibn Auf’s decision to step down was a “victory” for demonstrators.

They are demanding a transition to civilian rule before they return home.

Mr Bashir has been indicted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) on charges of war crimes and crimes against humanity over the Darfur conflict.

What happened on Friday?
Despite the removal of Mr Bashir on Thursday, demonstrators refused to disperse, camping out outside the army headquarters in the capital, Khartoum, defying a curfew declared by the military.

On Friday, a spokesman for the military council said the army was not seeking power and Sudan’s future would be decided by the protesters – but said the army would maintain public order and disturbances would not be tolerated.

The military council also said it would not extradite Mr Bashir to face the ICC charges – which he denies.

It has imposed a three-month state of emergency, with the constitution suspended.

Awad Ibn Ouf has stepped down to be replaced by a general the senior military hope will be more acceptable to the protesters. The momentum is with civil society.

The regime has floundered since this phase of protests began. The old ways of coercion haven’t worked and they face a civil society that is well organised and disciplined. This is a further retreat. It is unlikely to be last.

And there’s the economic crisis brought about by misrule, corruption and loss of oil revenues. Even the regime’s friends in the Middle East and Asia will think twice about rescue packages if it looks like a new version of the old venality and brutality. That’s an important pressure.

This is an exciting moment. Just think about the role of women in all of this, of social media and civil society. It’s happening in Sudan but the significance of these forces working peaceful for change is universal. Yes it’s very precarious, but also full of possibility.

Male Nurse Dismissed After Telling Patient To Undress To Lower High Blood Pressure

Male Nurse Asks Female Patient To Undress To Lower Blood Pressure. The female’s mother says that the female was terrified after the event that occurred.

A nurse in South Africa was temporarily relieved from his duties after accusations of him sexually harassing a female patient. The man reportedly asked the female to take off her bra and unfasten her pants to help decrease her blood pressure. The 32-year-old is claimed to have then unfastened his pants and rubbed his private parts on the woman’s face.

Dharmendra Parekh, the manager of Isipingo JMH Hospital, says that the nurse has been temporarily relieved from his duties instantly on 3 April. The hospital is planning on conducting an examination. The manager of the hospital says that the patient’s relatives came to the hospital after the claimed sexual abuse.

The female’s mother says that the female was terrified after the event that occurred. The mother says that she was also terrified and had a hard time sleeping when the female told her about the event.

The mother says, “I only told my son what happened the following morning and he insisted we notify the hospital and the police.”

The family is well acquainted with the male nurse as he also used to help the female patients older sister at the Isipingo JMH Hospital. The older daughter went to the male as part of a check-up to go work overseas, the female patient also went to the doctor because she found a job overseas. According to the mother, the male nurse called a doctor and the doctor reportedly told him to tell the female patient that she needs to take off her bra and unfasten her pants.

The nurse then persuaded the female into switching off her cell phone. The mother saw that the female patient was not looking good but as she tried asking the female why she wasn’t looking good, male nurse started disturbing the conversation telling them that he’ll escort them out. The mother says that the female was broken down by the incident that occurred. The matter was sent to the police and a male was at the uMlazi Magistrates Court on Friday.

The party that started off in 1999 with workers, commercial farmers, students and other forces is set to be dominated by former student leaders after Nelson Chamisa, Chalton Hwende, Jacob Mafume, Tererai Obey Sithole, Tendai Biti and Daniel Molekele among other former student leaders have so far been nominated for key positions in the opposition MDC party.

zifmnews.com

So far Chamisa remains the only one to have been nominated for the party top post with five out of five provinces having finished the process.

Chamisa, a lawyer and former Harare Polytechnic student leader is in the race to take the party leadership with former student leader, Tendai Biti, also a lawyer eyeing the vice president post.

Biti so far is in contest with top lawyer, Welshman Ncube for the post.

Others nominated for the vice president’s post are Paurina Mpariwa, Morgen Komichi among others.

Another student leader eyeing a top post in the MDC ahead of the party congress in May is Chalton Hwende who has been nominated for the post of secretary general, a very key post in the party.

Hwende was the secretary general in the Zimbabwe National Students Union while Job Sikhala, another nominee in the MDC congress dynamics was the spokesperson.

Molekele, formerly known as Fortune Mguni, who cut his political teeth when he deputised former MDC spokesperson, the late Learnmore Jongwe at the University of Zimbabwe in the late 90s, has been nominated also for the prestigious secretary general post.

Article Says Mnangagwa Has Offered To Resign But It Has Double Negatives

An opinion analysis article published by a Europe based website claims that president Emmerson Mnangagwa has offered to resign.

Emmerson Mnangagwa

The Spotlight article states that this was as a result of pressure from the military. The piece went viral on Friday morning. The article however has got double negatives or rather double doubts in the credibility of its source content. Part of this is profiled in the graphic below.

Beyond this issue, It was noted that the core sources behind the article are all faceless.

FULL TEXT:
The game is all but over for President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s young presidency, as hardline army generals are reportedly said to have read the riot act to him, over a sheaf of serious issues caused by his leadership seen as compromising national security, resulting in Mnangagwa allegedly offering to step down to avoid a flood of political chaos in the country, Spotlight Zimbabwe, can exclusively reveal.

Image result for mnangagwa spotlight zimbabwe
Intelligence sources close to the Office of The President and Cabinet (OPC) said the securocrats, who include serving and retired generals close to vice president, Rtd General Constantino Chiwenga, fired the warning shots to Mnangagwa on Tuesday after they informally met among themselves for a security briefing, as it’s now emerging that VP Chiwenga it might seem, is running a parallel unit of the Joint Operations Commnad (JOC), which is full of high ranking military officials still loyal to his command.
JOC is a shadowy quasi military organ, bringing together the country’s military-security complex which includes the army, and its military intelligence wing and Presidential Guard, Air Force, Police, Prisons and the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) to manage homeland security affairs.

Chief among the generals concerns based on military intelligence findings, is Mnangagwa’s failure to fix the economy, which they believe is likely to cause “the mother of all civil revolts” in the country’s history, as inflation continues to soar at an all time high of 59.39 percent as of February 2019 according to Trading Economics, while the so called transitional RTGS currency is fast losing value with a current exchange rate of RTGS$1 to US$3,0675. Fuel queues have resurfaced across Zimbabwean cities and towns, with Harare holding the dubious record of being home to the world’s most expensive petrol. The average price of petrol around the globe is $1.12 per litre, yet Zimbabwean motorists suffer an exhorbitant amount of $3.40 per litre.

As first reported by Spotlight Zimbabwe on 17 October 2018, Mnangagwa was warned by the army to urgently put the nation’s economic house in order, as they feared a possible popular uprising over his embattled regime’s extortionate taxes, uncontrollable price escalations, and growing shortages of fuel and food, all which he has dismally failed to arrest.
Other political hot issues raised by military intelligence include Mnangagwa’s move to compensate white farmers for losing their land under former President Robert Mugabe’s fast-track land reform of 2000 at a time government is broke, as his administration through the ministries of agriculture and finance annonced on Monday that it would start paying compensation to the former white commercial farmers this year, with a $17.5 million budget already in place to allow initial payouts to those in financial distress, while full compensation will be paid later.

Image result for spotlight zimbabwe logo
“Mnangagwa is definately in big trouble and his presidency is over,” said one of the sources based at Defence House in the capital. “An informal meeting consisting of top military brass officials was held on Tuesday, by generals who are currently serving together with some retired, where important security issues were discussed. From what we know, they’re not happy with the political leadership of Mnangagwa and that his failure to fix the economy together with questionable policies by one minister in particular are compromising national security. Military intelligence is pointing fingers at the ministry of finance, and there is strong concensus that the finance minister must be shown the door. The decision to pay compensation to white farmers has his fingerprints all over, as he hopes to curry favor with rthe World Bank and IMF to secure loans. So serious is the matter that the riot act was read to him (Mnangagwa), and he ended up offering to resign in private to the General (VP Chiwenga), to avoid political chaos in the country, as a good number of ruling party politicians also want him gone and are reviving and intensifying their bid to impeach him over gross economic mismanagement. The opposition we understand is also preparing a vote of no confidence for Mnangagwa in parliament. December 2019 might be far, he is surely going to resign to avoid humiliation like Mugabe.”

Zimbabwe’s white farmers are credited with turning the country into Southern Africa’s bread basket during the economy’s heydays, when surplus produce was exported to the region and beyond.

The sources also said one retired general currently serving in cabinet had also been told about a possible capture of the presidency by the finance ministry, as most of Mnangagwa’s policy pronouncements now appear to be the brainchild of the finance minister, and this has reportedly infuriated Chiwenga.

Image result for SB Moyo and Chiwenga
“They are very close (foreign affairs minister SB Moyo and Chiwenga). Minister Moyo has a dosssier on the possible capture of the president’s office by finance. When you look at the bigger picture it is the finance ministry peddling all these controversial policies, such as allowing 100 percent ownership of mining rights by foreigners in diamonds and platinum. In fact very soon all the remaining strategic minerals including untapped uranium reserves and the lithium we have will be wholly owned by foreign interests, which amounts to scrapping native empowerment. The story does not end there, another example of capture, is when Mnangagwa abondoned his World Economic Forum trip to Davos in Switzerland in January, to address the protests at home. I don’t need to mention the name of the person sent over to represent him at the Davos summit. Economic policy coming out from the minister’s office is dangerous and detrimental. How do you choose investment over ownership of natural resources. Who in their right senses does that?”

South African opposition leader, Julius Malema of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) came out guns blazing against Mnangagwa on Wednesday, saying his decision to compensate white farmers was a “sell-out position” warning that he is unlikely to remain in office for long.

Image result for Malema suit
“It’s a sell-out position, Mnangagwa is selling out,” Malema said during a news conference in Johannesburg.
“I can tell you now he won’t finish his term. The way he’s going about it, he’s not going to finish his term. That country is swimming in a pool of poverty; they can’t afford basic things like primary health care, good education and infrastructure. They get money and they go and give to people who are not deserving of such money. It’s a sell-out position, it’s unsustainable. He’s reversing the gains of the revolution and very soon the people of Zimbabwe will turn on him and he’ll have nowhere to hide. We don’t agree with Mnangagwa. They (white farmers) don’t deserve any compensation, and therefore anyone who compensates them for stolen land is a sell-out. So Mnangagwa is a sell-out. He must know that he’s bad, he’s a sell-out. We thought he was going to bring fresh air in Zimbabwe but he’s continuing to be worse than what we’ve experienced before. He’s a sell-out and he must know that.”
Another South African, renowned political commentator on Zimbabwe, Professor David Moore, from the Faculty of Humanities Department of Anthropology and Development Studies at the University of Johannesburg, has previously echoed the same sentiments as Malema, telling South African television station eNCA in an interview on Zimbabwe in August 2018, that Mnangagwa will be lucky to remain in office for the next five years.

“Zanu-PF too is going to be regrouping by October, because remember Mnangagwa himself thinks he might be impeached because there’s subterranean G40 people who are there,” said Moore. “Mugabe could hold his factions together. Morgan Tsvangirai at times he could, but at another times he couldn’t. You know Thokozani Khupe that whole thing. If Emmerson Mnangagwa can do a Mugabe for the next five years even, he’ll be very lucky.”

Last month we reported that, a special delegation of senior military officials reportedly told Chinese generals that Mnangagwa’s political reign will expire in 2020, and that he was going to be an interim caretaker president up to the period, before the military replaces him with their preferred successor, a few days prior to ex-ruler Mugabe’s November 2017 coup.
Today we can also report that VP Chiwenga if all goes well, will be the next Zimbabwe president should his military confederacy insist that he takes up the position. There are also reports that foreign affairs minister SB Moyo and agriculture minister Perence Shiri, are likely to land very senior positions in a Chiwenga government as vice presidents in the presiduim. There also has been speculation by online reports, that the country’s richest man Strive Masiyiwa, might also land the vice presidency and is being considered to play a key role in a looming post-Mnangagwa dispensation.

ESwatini Central Bank Denies Keeping Gaddafi Money For Zuma

The Central Bank of eSwatini denied holding money from a former president of South Africa following reports that Jacob Zuma had stashed the late Muammar Gaddafi’s money in that country.

“The Central Bank of eSwatini wishes to inform the nation and the international community that it is not holding and has never held money from a former president of the Republic of South Africa as it has been alleged in recent media reports locally and abroad.

“By law, and indeed in practice, the bank only holds money for the eSwatini Government and locally licensed commercial banks.

“The Central Bank of eSwatini would like to apologise to His Majesty the King Mswati III, Her Majesty Indlovukazi, the entire Swazi nation at large and anyone adversely affected by these false allegations.”

The statement was signed by Majozi Sithole, governor of the Central Bank of eSwatini.

The Sunday Times reported last weekthat Gaddafi, the late Libyan leader, gave Zuma an estimated $30m for safekeeping before Gaddafi was killed in 2011.

The money was reportedly secretly moved to eSwatini earlier this year from Zuma’s Nkandla residence, where it had been ostensibly hidden.

King Mswati III reportedly confirmed the existence of the money to President Cyril Ramaphosa during a meeting at OR Tambo International Airport.

According to the Sunday Times’ sources, Zuma travelled to Libya in 2011 with then intelligence minister Siyabonga Cwele, where the delegation offered the Libyan leader safe passage to SA as rebel forces closed in.

Libyan military authorities had reportedly asked Ramaphosa to help recover the estimated R442m which belonged to Gaddafi and which was believed to be in eSwatini.

Zuma took to Twitter and posted that he knew nothing about the money.

“Sigh! I owe millions in legal fees… I’ve asked you to assist with that one title deed in order for me to sell that house. I now hear that I have been keeping money belonging to my late brother Gaddafi. Where’s this money because His Majesty knows nothing about it,” said Zuma.

On Friday Cwele was attending a bilateral meeting at the Oshoek border post with eSwatini with his counterpart, Princess Lindiwe Dlamini, according to Government Communication and Information Services.

Chitungwiza Hospital Nurses Down Tools

Principal Nursing Officer Miriam Mangeya

CHITUNGWIZA Central Hospital nurses yesterday temporarily downed tools and demonstrated against their boss over nepotism.

The nurses took to the car park holding placards and beating drums alleging that the principal nursing officer Miriam Mangeya had turned the institution into her empire where she surrounds herself with her relatives at the expense of other nurses.

Zimbabwe Nurses Association chairperson Kingstone Mutsinzwa said nurses’ concerns had been turned off for some time forcing them to take the extraordinary measure.

“Nurses are no longer safe to air their views because of relatives and friends planted by the PNO who report negatively to her,” said Mutsinzwa.

Mutsinzwa said efforts to engage Mangeya were futile as she instead threatened to fire them.

“VaMangeya vanobva vati panoti Chitungwiza ndopanoti inini chero ukaendepi ivondovanosara.

“This has led the nurses to say enough is enough and staged a demonstration for their voices to be heard.

“They met as a team demonstrating. Mangeya relatives did not turn up but they sent names of those who were active during pre-demo meeting.”

Mandeya’s maiden surname is Muchakazi and these two surnames dominated the team selected that benefitted from the funded cholera dose programme.

“Some of the general hands are from her church.

“We are urging the ministry to investigate, do head counting and carry job evaluation and assess how Mandeya is administering the health institution,” he said.

Mandeya is on record admitting that she had relatives employed by the hospital but said she never had a hand in selecting people who went for cholera vaccination.

ZANU PF Will Never Criticise ZEC As That Will Further Dent Mnangagwa’s Credibility

Munyaradzi Mangwana

Correspondent|ZANU-PF legal affairs secretary Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana disclosed yesterday at a national multi-stakeholder post-election review conference in Nyanga that the ruling party blocked its candidates from filing their election petitions as that would have discredited the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC).

Mangwana said the ruling party would not criticize the ZEC because that would cast aspersions over President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s victory.

“In my capacity as secretary for legal affairs, I faced this challenge from Zanu PF candidates who had not succeeded in the last elections. They came forward to me and said we want to challenge the result of the election because we feel that Zec did not do its work very well,” he said.

Mangwana added: “If you were in my position, what would you do? Your party has won the election and has vigorously defended its victory in the Constitutional Court, but your (parliamentary and local government) candidates are coming to you, saying Zec did not do its work well, if they had done it well, I would have won the election.

“Any new process still requires to be reviewed with an intention of improving it to perfection if possible. I cannot stand before you to say the electoral process was perfect, but it was good for it to present a credible outcome. There are areas which do require improvement starting with the BVR (biometric voter registration) process itself,” he said.

The opposition has often accused Zec of playing mother to the ruling party and favouring it with information and internal secrets pertaining to its running of the polls, allegations denied by both Zanu PF and Zec.

When the MDC took their case to the Constitutional Court, all the nine judges on the benches threw it out as there was no sufficient election residue to prove that there was vote rigging.

Mangwana, however, claimed that there was an abuse of commissioned affidavits by political parties, leading to voters being registered in wards they did not reside.

Zanu PF said it wanted this problem to be solved by allowing political parties access to the voters’ roll three months ahead of polls to iron out challenges pertaining to voter egistration.

“You would find sometimes 70 people registered as staying in one room … through the relaxation of rules there was abuse, I am not saying by which political party, but political parties because they want to win at all costs can abuse relaxation of rules and that is what gave rise to the situation whereby people were simply getting pre-made affidavits by political agents,” Mangwana said.

Govt Turns Down Resignation From Senior Official Who Is On Corruption Charges

Joe Biggie Matiza

Government has turned down the resignation of senior director in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development Ms Angeline Karonga, who is facing charges of corruption involving a tender awarded to her company by the Zimbabwe National Road Administration.

Ms Karonga, who is the Ministry’s legal director, tendered her resignation a few days after she was arrested and arraigned before the courts on corruption charges.

Questions were raised over the timing of her resignation since her case was still before the courts. Transport and Infrastructural Development Minister Joe Biggie Matiza confirmed the development to the Herald.

“Yes, her resignation was turned down until her case which is before the courts is finalised,” he said.

“Her resignation letter states that she has served long enough and wants to resign, but it was felt that she should wait for the finalisation of her case.”

Ms Karonga, who is on bail, is being charged together with Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe general manager David Chawota.

The pair formed a company called Akodac Consultancy Services in 2009, which was then awarded a tender by Zinara, a parastatal in the same ministry where Karonga is a director.

Akodac Consultancy was contracted to supply bitumen to Zinara and was paid US$1 234 004,72.

You Killed My Husband, Pay Up, Woman Demands From Mnangagwa.

Army Generals announcing Mugabe coup.

The wife of killed Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) boss Peter Munetsi, who died in military detention during the November 2017 coup which ousted former president Robert Mugabe, Rossie, is demanding her late husband’s post-mortem report and US$600 000.

Rossie has filed an application at the High Court seeking an order to compel the government, police and Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals to release her late husband’s post-mortem report.

Munetsi’s death has reportedly been under investigation by the Zimbabwe Republic Police’s Criminal Investigations Department. However, the police have not been forthcoming with the post-mortem results, forcing the family to engage lawyers.

The matter could open a can of worms by providing fresh insight into the circumstances leading to a number of deaths during the dramatic coup, which the government claims was “bloodless”.

Munetsi died on November 15, 2017 at the age of 55 and a memorial was held for him in Harare on January 27, 2018.

“We act on behalf of the estate of the late Peter Munetsi, please kindly note our interest herein. The now deceased Peter Munetsi was a member of the ununiformed forces employed as such by the Central Intelligence Organisation as a District Divisional Intelligence Officer.

“Peter Munetsi died in military detention on November 15, 2017. His death is the subject of your investigations,” a letter from lawyer Denford Halimani of Wintertons Legal Practitioners reads.

The correspondence was addressed to the officer in charge of the CID’s Law and Order section at Harare Central Police Station.

Halimani said the post-mortem is needed “so as to ascertain the cause of death and to forward the report to his insurers who require it as a precondition to redeem his insurance policy. The post-mortem is also required to consider seeking compensation for wrongful death and loss of support”.

“It is therefore extremely necessary for the post-mortem report to be promptly availed to us.”

He said the state-run Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals, which conducted the post-mortem, referred the family to the CID Homicide department for the results.

“We are aware that the post-mortem is available. In this regard the post-mortem was signed off by the pathologist Dr (Tsungai Victor) Jabangwe. However, the post-mortem was not availed to us by the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals which indicated that it would be availed through the investigating officer and/ or the Officer in Charge at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals Police post,” said Halimani.

“We managed to have sight of the contents of the post-mortem report and are aware of its contents. We approached the Police Post at Parirenyatwa who referred us to CID Homicide at Harare Central Police Station, which is the reason for us writing this letter to you.”

Police spokesman Paul Nyathi said he was not aware of the matter. “I am not aware of the letter and I am not privy to any information which you are asking,” Nyathi said.

Reliable sources in the security sector maintain that some people, among them Munetsi, were killed during the coup.

The army operation left a trail of destruction at properties owned by government officials perceived to be loyal to Mugabe. The walls and doors were plastered with bullet holes and there was blood on the floor at some of the properties. Bullet casings and fragments were also found scattered around the properties.

There were blood stains around former finance minister Ignatius Chombo’s home, while casings and bullet fragments were found at the homes of former ministers Jonathan Moyo (higher education) and Saviour Kasukuwere (local government).

Former Zanu-PF youth leaders Kudzanai Chipanga and Innocent Hamandishe were detained and tortured by the military during the coup. Munetsi, a career spy, was captured by soldiers during the dramatic events.

However, late last year, Defence minister Oppah Muchinguri told parliament that no one was killed during the coup.

“As you are aware that Operation Restore Legacy spanned over the period 17th November, 2017 to 18th January, 2018, if the honourable member was referring to people who died of the various ailments, then that is best answered by the Registrar-General’s Office that deals with registration of births and deaths . . . However, if the honourable member is referring to victims of casualties of Operation Restore Legacy which I believe he was, Mr Speaker Sir, the answer is none. As far as we are concerned, no one was killed during this operation,” she said in October last year.

Her statement contradicted Presidential spokesperson George Charamba, who had earlier on that year, in April, admitted that a CIO officer died.

“We had one officer from the Central Intelligence Organisation who was arrested alongside a few others for standing in the way of an operation.

“That particular officer apparently was diabetic and because of the shock of that arrest, we lost him. It was a very sad incident that happened,” Charamba said.

Gvt Responds To Malema’s Remarks

Farai Dziva|South African opposition leader Julius Malema’ s moral compass is twisted, a government spokesperson has said.

Malema on Wednesday told South African media that Mnangagwa “is a sell-out.”

Speaking to Newsday over Malema’s jibes, Information ministry secretary Ndavaningi Mangwana claimed that the government was morally bound to compensate the white farmers for the infrastructure they built on the land.

“Mr Malema’s comments are ill-informed and they betray a failure to grasp Zimbabwe’s policy regarding land reform.
But that’s quite understandable because when one plunges into the domestic affairs of a neighbour based on tittle-tattle on social media, their chances of getting it very wrong are amplified as is the case here.

Zimbabwe’s policy is a very fair one. Our policy is not to compensate for land, but for farm improvements. The money set aside by the government in the budget is to pay for that.

Now if anyone believes that it’s right not to compensate for a house, an irrigation system, barn, borehole or school, then their moral compass is skewed and we have to question their sense of right and wrong,” said Mangwana.

Diego Costa Slapped With Eight-Match Ban

Farai Dziva |Atlético De Madrid striker Diego Costa has been slapped with an eight-match ban for insulting referee Jesus Gil Manzano’s mother during the 2-0 loss to Barcelona last weekend.

The 30-year-old was shown a straight red card in the 28th minute and had to be ushered from the field by Gerard Pique after initially refusing to walk.

Manzano said in his match report that Costa grabbed his arm and used a Spanish phrase that referred to defecating on his “prostitute mother”.

The Spanish Football Federation met on Wednesday and determined that Costa must sit out eight La Liga fixtures. The suspension means the former Chelsea player will miss the rest of the season.

Harare City Ready For Bosso

Farai Dziva|Harare City coach Mark Harrison will make changes in the team that will take on Highlanders on Saturday.

The Sunshine Boys have lost their opening two matches of the season, and it’s the performance against Manica Diamonds on Sunday that has forced the coach to look for other options.

Speaking to the press on Thursday, Harrison said the technical team is considering resting senior players and give youngsters some game time.

“We have been using experienced players, but so far the results haven’t followed, so this weekend you might see one or two youngsters coming in because at the end of the day I need to get results.

“If you see the senior players are not doing it, you look up to the younger players to do it,” the coach said.

Younger players such as Tellmore Pio, Learnmore Muyambo and Tatenda Tumba have all started from the bench this season.

The match will be played at Rufaro Stadium on Saturday and kick-off is at 3 pm.

Gvt To Deal With “Pricing Madness”

GOVERNMENT is working on mechanisms for the National Competitiveness Commission (NCC) to work with industry on a framework for pricing of goods, standards and service delivery. This was said by Industry and Commerce Deputy Minister Raj Modi in his key-note address during the 4th retailers and wholesalers’ Indaba 2019 in Harare yesterday, organised by the Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR).

Deputy Minister Modi’s remarks come at a time prices of goods and services have risen by between 25 percent and 75 percent in recent months, eating into the pockets of consumers.

But the NCC, which was set up in 2017 to examine cost drivers to improve business competitiveness using the value chain approach, has largely been invisible in all this pricing madness. Deputy Minister Modi said the NCC was understaffed while its chairperson Mr Kumbirai Katsande, was reportedly running the show on his own, a move that curtails his chances of attending to all pertinent issues affecting the market.
Deputy Minister Modi said the NCC was currently doing “the best they can under the current circumstances”, as the organisation still does not have a CEO and other critical staff.

However, Government says the NCC has been playing a critical role in addressing issues around bread prices. Deputy Minister Modi wants the NCC to be resourced so that it carries out its mandate, in conjunction with industry.

“I hope that industry players in all sectors of the economy will work closely with the commission,” said Deputy Minister Modi.
“My ministry is also looking at how the NCC can, together with suppliers, wholesalers and retailers, engage to come up with best practices on pertinent issues of pricing, standards and service delivery.
“There is need to agree on how our products can be priced using reasonable mark-ups especially between wholesalers and retailers as your role is critical to consumers.”State media

Minister Using Political Muscle To Evict 350 Villagers At Zengeni Farm,

By Own Correspondent- Penhalonga villagers are up in arms with Manicaland Provincial Affairs minister Ellen Gwaradzimba whom they allege of using her political muscle to try to evict them from the land where they have been living for decades.

The 350 families live at Zengeni farm in Mutasa district which is reportedly being coveted by the Minister.

Gwaradzimba reportedly intends to extend her farm boundary to incorporate the land occupied by the 350 families.

In a letter written to Mutasa South legislator Regai Tsunga pleading for his intervention, the villages said:

“We as affected families of Zengeni village (350 families) humbly request your urgent assistance concerning our plight as mentioned above.

Our main concern is our chieftainship of which we have always applied to our district administrator, Ministry of Lands and to the provincial administrator to no avail.

Recently we were issued with eviction papers without the due process of a court . . . As the Member of Parliament for this constituency, your help will be of great importance.

… This is not a laughing or political matter. We are aware that there are some few individuals who did not come today because they are saying that it’s a political matter.

Minister Gwaradzimba wants to extend her farm. There is one man called Mahachi who is also eyeing to grab the land. We have been told that we are likely to be evicted to Nyamukwakwa village near Honde Valley and the Mozambican border.”

Meanwhile, Tsunga met Gwarazimba where he made supplication on behalf of the villagers. He expressed hope that the Minister would be considerate towards the Zengeni villagers.

Newsday has a copy of the letter from the Ministry of Lands dated March 12, 2019, directed to headman Zengeni.

The letter gave the villagers seven days to vacate Zengeni Farm claiming they were violating the Gazetted Land Act.

Wife Of CIO Boss Killed During Coup Sues Mnangagwa For $600,000

The widow of the late Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO) senior official, Peter Munetsi who died while in military detention during the November 2017 ‘Operation Restore Legacy’, is demanding her late husband’s post-mortem report in addition to US$600 000.

Petitioning the High Court on Wednesday, Rossie cited Commissioner-General of Police Godwin Matanga, Home Affairs and Culture minister Cain Mathema, Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and pathologist Tsungai Jabangwe as the first, second, third and fourth respondents respectively.

She is being represented by Denford Halimani of Wintertons Legal Practitioners. Part of her application reads:

On 1 October 2018, the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR) wrote another letter to the third respondent (Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals) advising them of our intention to meet the Officer-in-Charge of the Parirenyatwa Police Post in relation to the post-mortem report.

The meeting took place as scheduled and my legal practitioners managed to go through the post-mortem report.

The post-mortem revealed that my husband’s death was caused by intramuscular bleeding and blunt force trauma as a result of an assault.

Regrettably, the investigating officer was not able to attend the meeting and hence the report was not actually collected from the police post.

I require the post-mortem report so as to ascertain the official cause of my husband’s death and to forward the report to insurers who require it as a pre-condition to redeem my late husband’s EcoSure funeral insurance policy.

I also require it as evidence in the civil claim that I intend to institute against the wrong-doers. Thus I require the post-mortem report for the exercise or protection of a right as contemplated in Section 62(2) of the constitution.

Rossie said that the Defence Ministry denied culpability in the death of the then 55-year-old officer, claiming that he died from chronic illness. She further stated:

Due to the circumstances surrounding my husband’s death, his employers have made it clear that will only act upon receipt of his post-mortem report as they said that the matter was ‘sensitive’.

“Expecting Mnangagwa To Resolve Gukurahundi Issue Is Like Expecting A Mosquito To Treat Malaria”

Top Govt Official Caught In The Act Stealing Cyclone Aid Weeps In Court

A top government official who allegedly stole an assortment of Cyclone Idai donates wept in court uncontrollably after she was denied bail.

Two weeks ago, ZimEye.com exposed massive fraud, the stealing of food aid in Manicaland.

Christine Chideme (63), a deputy director in the Ministry of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development was nabbed while carrying goods worth $3 000 that were donated by well-wishers towards Cyclone Idai survivors.

– Manica Post

ZIPRA Cadre Warns Of Civil Strife

By Own Correspondent- A white war veteran who fought for the country’s independence under ZAPU’s military wing, Zimbabwe Peoples’ Revolutionary Army (ZIPRA) has sternly warned that Zimbabwe is headed for choppy waters if people continue to play the blame game.

Jeremy Brickhill said habitually shooting demonstrators is a sure road to civil strife.

Addressing a public lecture of the late ZIPRA commander Lookout Masuku, last week at Small City Hall in Bulawayo, Brickhill bemoaned Zimbabwe’s ‘independence’ which is not real independence.

He said:

We can say that we have independence, but what kind of independence is this? We go about begging, we sell resources belonging to our children and grandchildren to buy houses for our girlfriends.

The skin colour has changed, but what has changed for people? No food, no fuel; this is not the Zimbabwe we fought for. There must be fair access to resources.

During the liberation struggle, we had our own differences, but we managed them. What are we doing today? Fighting each other; shooting at demonstrators. This road is a road to conflict. A hungry man is an angry man and a hungry woman is a dangerous sister.

Brickhill hailed the late Masuku as a strategist and visionary. He said:

His three main wishes before his death were that he thought of his family, the bigger family of Zipra forces and the issue of the liberation war.

It was his concern that the fighters and their families be rewarded, the fallen heroes are remembered and their graves be identified and upgraded, shrines be established so that those remaining should know the history and the youth will know about the liberation struggle of Zimbabwe.-Newsday

Legislators Abort Chiredzi North Trip Over Poor Road Networks

By Own Correspondent- Parliament’s Standing Rules and Order Committee last week aborted their visit to parts of Chiredzi North due to extremely bad roads that were further damaged by Cyclone Idai.

Led by Senator Tsitsi Muzenda and accompanied by Chiredzi North MP Roy Bhila, the committee had to abandon part of much of its itinerary because of the poor roads which were damaged by Tropical Cyclone Idai.

Other legislators who were part of the committee were Morgan Komichi, Roy Bhila, Tabitha Khumalo, Farai Musikavanhu and Aliginia Samson.

The cyclone affected mostly Ward 24, Jairezi, where 253 houses were destroyed, according to the Civil Protection Unit (CPU).

The committee, however, only assessed the damage at one roadside home as attempts to drive their minibus deeper into communities failed.

Cyclone Idai Chipinge ZIMETRO

The team had to disembark twice and push their vehicle through the mud and gullies of the shattered road.

A truck carrying relief supplies also got bogged in the mud and had to be towed out by an army vehicle.

Muzenda later told a local publication that during their pre-journey briefing, they had received wrong information that they were going to be able to travel into villages.

“We were on a mission to visit affected families and their destroyed homesteads but we failed as roads were impassable. We are however happy that we found an advance relief team distributing donated goods.

“We only managed to visit one homestead by the roadside but we will rely on the District Administrators (DA)’s data that 253 houses were destroyed. We had been informed that we could make it into communities by road but only to find that it was impossible,” said Muzenda.-TellZim

Incapacitated NRZ Artisans Threaten Strike

By Own Correspondent- National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) artisans have threatened industrial action over unpaid salaries and bonuses.

Their representative Railways Artisans Union (RAU) claims that the artisans are demanding their salaries which are 16 months due.

The NRZ management however dismisses those claims.

Eddie Africa, RAU president recalled that the NRZ management had promised to pay workers their outstanding salaries by 31 March.

He also said that workers are owed bonuses that date as far back as 2016.

Speaking on the way forward, Africa said:

“…Our long suffering members have reached a point of incapacitation and are now finding it very difficult to move the nation on empty stomachs and tired feet…

They are going to demonstrate, petition and take all other necessary measures as guided by the Constitution of Zimbabwe and the Labour Act until the employer and the shareholder handle and address the above mentioned grievances with the gravity they merit.”

However, NRZ spokesperson Nyasha Maravanyika said Rau was not being truthful.

He said:

“That’s not what it is. As far as I am concerned, they are getting their money.

If they have not been paid for this month (March), they should not use the old cases — those are separate issues. If it is a new issue, they should come up with a petition then we take it from there.”

Malema’s Moral Compass Is Twisted:Gvt

Horror As Councilor’s Son Is Run Over By Two Cars

By Own Correspondent- Elton Zinyemba, son to Norton Town Councillor Albert Zinyemba, is said to have died after he was run over by two cars.

Reports alleged that the late Zinyemba had been abusing drugs the night he was involved in the accident, but his father refutes the claims.

He leaves behind a wife and two children.

Reports are that when Elton was on his way home he was using his bike, which had no lights or reflectors. He was not wearing any reflective clothing.

It is reported that Elton was hit by one car and survived, but when he was crawling on the road he was hit by another car and died.

 Albert Zinyemba

The driver of second vehicle which killed him confessed that he was also drunk, and he didn’t see him trying to crawl out of the road.

His father Albert claims that someone was already after him for being a town councillor for the past seven years and they killed his son.

“I don’t think my son was drunk and this is how he used to come back home with his bike, even after dark.

However, my son is no longer here to defend himself that he was not drunk because from what I know he never used to take drugs.

Being a town councillor in Norton for a long period of time I think this was a trap,” said Albert.

Gladys Zinyemba, who was also at the funeral, said though the two people who hit the councillor’s son did not attend the funeral, they were supportive by offering each $400 for funeral expenses.

Belgians Spotted At Dembare Training Ground

DYNAMOS have welcomed Belgian coaches on an exchange programme that could also see members of their technical team, led by Lloyd Chigowe, travelling to the European country.

Billian Valery Jozef and goalkeeper specialist, Beelen Dirk Lode, arrived in the country on Wednesday.
They have been helping with the drills as the giants prepare for a tough date against 2015 champions, Chicken Inn, at Barbourfields tomorrow.

Dynamos vice-chairman, Moses Shumba, said the duo will be in the country until April 29.

“They will be here until the end of the month. So, it’s only 20 days, and it’s all part of an exchange programme that we are having with our counterparts in Europe.
“We also expect our coaches to go to Belgium on a similar arrangement.

“This is part of the new Dynamos leadership’s efforts to reposition the club and create synergies with Europe. We should prepare a comprehensive media release tomorrow (today). They are top-notch coaches who have coached in Belgium, Hungary and Cote d’Ivoire,” said Shumba.

However, the Glamour Boys suffered a setback in their preparations after their highly-rated Cameroonian forward, Claude Junior Ngahan, was forced to sit out the remainder of yesterday’s training session with an ankle knock.State media

740 000 young Zimbabwean Women Are HIV Positive – UN

A United Nations Report says 740 000 young women in Zimbabwe are living with HIV, the third highest figure in the SADC region.

This was revealed in a UNAIDS HIV and Women report released this week. The report further said that South Africa tops the list with 4.4 million followed by Mozambique at 1.3 million.

Young women are those whose ages fall between the ages of 15-24.

The report attributed the high numbers to the existence of high levels of transactional sex and age-disparity sexual relationships that are blamed for the HIV vulnerability of young women. The report says in part:

An estimated 740,000 women were living with HIV in Zimbabwe in 2017.

Gender inequality is present within relationships and marriages and drives HIV infections.

Although knowledge among young people is improving, only 37% of young women and 41% of young men have comprehensive and correct knowledge of HIV prevention.

Only 46% of young women and 47% of young men have comprehensive knowledge about HIV, limiting their ability to take control of their sexual health.

… In addition, only 29% of adolescent women (aged 15-19), at high risk of HIV infection used a condom the last time they had sex, compared to 44% of their male counterparts.

VIDEO: Mnangagwa Fumes Over Price Hikes, Blames Retailers, Businesses

ZANU PF President Emmerson Mnangagwa has warned retailers and companies against what he called unjustified price increases.

Mnangagwa was addressing the Zanu PF youth assembly at the party’s headquarters in the capital Harare on Wednesday.

Mnangagwa said, “the government notes the present wanton, upsurge and ever-escalating unjustified increase in prices.

” We urge compatriots in industry, business and commerce to desist from this inhumane trend which has brought untold suffering and misery to our people.

“We cannot have the continued exploitation of our people by those who exhibit rent-seeking behaviour.”

However, retailers argue that the rise in prices is linked to the recent hike in grain producer prices and the surging illegal foreign currency rates.

Confederation Retailers of Zimbabwe (CZR) board member Alois Burutsa said:

Basically, the suppliers are increasing their prices in relation to the movement of the foreign currency black market…even distributors who import finished products.

Confederation of Zimbabwe (CZI) president Sifelani Jabangwe said that retailers will not suffer is their pricing does not reflect the exchange rate. Said Jabangwe:

Instability is not good for all of us and business is concerned about the movement in prices… and the concerns are related to the past.

If the rate moves and you are pricing wrongly you actually then suffer from inadequate working capital. This is a genuine fear that is in business and we need to see how we can address this.

Sudan Demonstrators Ignore Military, Demand Civilian Rule Now

Sudanese demonstrators who have been holding protests against the deposed President Bashar Al-Bashir have rejected the setting up of a transitional military council to run the country for two years. They have pledged to continue with the protests until a civilian government is put in place.

Reuters reports that the protestors have called for mass Friday prayers outside the defence ministry compound, a focal point for protests.

The activists, clad in yellow vests, were reportedly controlling traffic around the Ministry of Defence compound on Friday morning and managed foot traffic to and from the sit-in. They also blocked a major bridge in central Khartoum, the Capital City.

The country’s Defence Minister Awad Mohamed Ahmed Ibn Auf said elections would be held at the end of the two-year interim period. He further announced a curfew from 10 pm to 4 am.

Ibn Auf is expected to meet journalists later on Friday today (today).

Bashir’s fall follows hot on the heels of another Arab leader who was forced out of office through a popular uprising.

Algeria’s Abdelaziz Bouteflika, in power since 1999, stepped down on April 2 after six weeks of protests. Protests erupted after he had announced that he will seek another term whilst he was bedridden.

Meanwhile, world powers, including the United States and Britain, said they supported a peaceful and democratic transition sooner than two years.- Reuters

Britain Deliberately Ignored Gukurahundi For Its Own Interests

British officials repeatedly downplayed the massacre of thousands of innocent civilians by Robert Mugabe in Zimbabwe in the 1980s to protect the UK’s interests in southern Africa and their relationship with the former colony’s new ruler, new research has claimed.

According to thousands of documents obtained under the Freedom of Information Act by Dr Hazel Cameron, a lecturer in international relations at the University of St Andrews in Scotland, British officials in London and Zimbabwewere “intimately aware” of the atrocities but consistently minimised their scale.Advertisement

Cameron described the policy as one of “wilful blindness”.

“The British government could have influenced authorities in Zimbabwe but put political and economic interests first … There were steps they could have taken and they chose not to,” she said.

Mugabe took power in elections held in 1980 following a gruelling and brutal guerilla struggle against white minority rule in what was known as Rhodesia. His Zanu-PF party won more than 60% of the vote.

In 1983 the new leader launched a massive security clampdown in parts of Matabeleland, the heartland of the Ndebele ethnic minority and a stronghold of his political rival, Joshua Nkomo. The operation, prompted by scattered murders and attacks on property allegedly by members of Nkomo’s political party, was spearheaded by the Fifth Brigade of the new Zimbabwean national army and portrayed as directed against “bandits”. The unit had been trained by North Korean military specialists and was fanatically loyal to Mugabe.

Over a nine-month period the Fifth Brigade killed, tortured and raped tens of thousands of unarmed civilians. In all, historians of the period believe, between 10,000 and 20,000 died in the atrocities, and many more suffered severe physical or psychological harm.Advertisement

The new documents include hundreds of cables exchanged by Robin Byatt, the British high commissioner in Harare, with officials in London. These, Cameron says, reveal the British official attitude towards Zimbabwe in the first months of the massacres.

In one cable, sent on 24 June 1983, Byatt explained how “Zimbabwe is important to us primarily because of major British and western economic and strategic interests in southern Africa, and Zimbabwe’s pivotal position there. Other important interests are investment and trade … prestige, and the need to avoid a mass white exodus. Zimbabwe … [also] is a bulwark against Soviet inroads”.

When Jeremy Paxman arrived in Zimbabwe in March 1983 to make a documentary for the BBC’s Panorama, Byatt complained that the journalist was taking an “unreservedly gloomy and sensational view of events”.

When Britain’s then foreign secretary, Geoffrey Howe, asked for the diplomat’s reaction to an article in Newsweek graphically describing the Fifth Brigade’s violence, Byatt said its author had “a reputation for sensational reporting”.

“The behaviour of the Fifth Brigade has certainly been brutal but it is [the] impression [of senior British military officials] that they are not out of control,” the high commissioner wrote.

As the violence in Matabeleland intensified, Byatt relayed the allegations of killings made by opposition politicians in Zimbabwe and told London he had received reports indicating widespread acts of brutality including murder, rape and torture.

With concern growing among western diplomats in Harare, the high commissioner told London “he was sure that our best tactic is to continue to try to proffer sympathetic and constructive, rather than simply critical, advice if we wish to influence Zimbabwean decisions”.

The policy of engaging with Mugabe was supported by Foreign Office mandarins. The campaign of violence – known as Gukurahundi, a local word for the wind which separates chaff from grain – continued into 1984.

Jilly Byatt, the wife of the former high commissioner, said criticism of her husband, who is ill, was misplaced and that the decision to opt for engagement with Mugabe rather than confrontation had saved lives.

“It was very important to keep good relations … Aggressive criticism would have got us nowhere. It would just not have worked,” she said.

“Mugabe had just begun to trust the British again … and nothing would have been gained by losing that trust. The slaughter would just have worsened. It is unthinkable that we could have helped in any way in the activities of the Fifth Brigade.”

Experts said the influence of foreigners in Zimbabwe at the time was more limited than sometimes suggested.

Stuart Doran, a historian and author of a forthcoming book on the atrocities, said: “The Gukurahundi was driven by Mugabe and Zanu-PF from start to finish. This was a domestic issue [but] there’s no doubt that serious misjudgments were made by the British … By 1983, when the massacres began, members of the high commission were swallowing much of Mugabe’s propaganda without adequate reflection. It had become a habit … and they weren’t alone. Plenty of other western diplomats were in the same place.”

None of the perpetrators have been held accountable for the atrocities of the 1980s. Those implicated include many who are now senior political figures in Zimbabwe. Mugabe recently celebrated his 93rd birthday and has been in power for 36 years.

Emerson Mnangagwa, the 70-year-old vice-president, is mentioned in the new documents in a letter from tycoon Roland “Tiny” Rowland to the US ambassador.

Rowland, whose Lonrho conglomerate had major investments in Zimbabwe, wrote that he was “absolutely convinced” that Mugabe knew about the atrocities and claimed that Mnangagwa, then secretary of state for security, was “fully aware”.

Mnangagwa, who denies any responsibility for the killings in Matabeleland, is tipped by many observers to succeed Mugabe on his death.

“The alleged main perpetrators are still in charge of the political and military infrastructure in Zimbabwe. It is still very difficult for survivors and their relatives to have any form of justice,” Cameron said.

Thembani Dube, a survivor of the massacres and a human rights activist, said the research “unravels the complicit role of the British government of Margaret Thatcher”.

The reaction of British officials and the government sometimes contrasted with that of US diplomats and policymakers, even if official policy may not have differed greatly.

George Shultz, the then US secretary of state, noted “the Fifth Brigade military operations in Matabeleland have succeeded in terrorising, intimidating and alienating the people of Matabeleland”. The “mailed fist policy of the government of Zimbabwe was directed not only against dissidents themselves but against the sea in which the enemy fish swim”, he added.

US diplomats reported that the Foreign Office prioritised “bilateral relations” with Zimbabwe and complained that British officials were “excessively defensive about what has been going on in Matabeleland”, describing one as “almost an apologist for the [government of Zimbabwe]”.

In a recently published academic article detailing her research, which was self-funded, Cameron quotes a cable from Byatt in which the diplomat points out that “the white farming community (a substantial portion of which is British or dual [nationality]) are being treated scrupulously correctly by the Fifth Brigade and, while they dislike the methods being used, are relieved that their own security has improved very considerably as a result of Fifth Brigade deployment”.

This, Byatt said, was “the other side of the coin” to the alleged atrocities.

One of the Foreign Office’s deepest concerns, other than the wellbeing of British citizens in newly independent Zimbabwe, was the effect on public opinion in the UK of reports of atrocities.

Senior ministers who visited Zimbabwe while the Gukurahundi offensive was ongoing failed to mention the atrocities in parliamentary reports on their return.

When Prince Charles met Peter Preston, then editor of the Guardian and Donald Trelford, then editor of the Observer, who had published his own eyewitness account of the atrocities, shortly after a 1984 visit to Zimbabwe, the prince said the Foreign Office had told him that “those massacres in Matabeleland [were] all exaggerated”.

Farmers Enter Hidden Partnerships With White Farmers In Fear Of Being Purged. (Watch Video)

Farmers at the worship

Farmers in Insiza District of Matabeleland South say they can not enter into open partnerships in farming because of the huge disputes in the land they were settled in.

The farmers also indicate that some of their collegues are having secret partnership arrangements with former white farmers in fear of victimisation.

According to the farmers, most farmers in Insiza North were settled there “illegally” by a powerful politician in the area during the land resettlement exercise for political expediency.

This anomaly was highlighted by farmers from the area in an on going Zimbabwe Land and Agrarian Network, ZILAN, workshop taking place in Bulawayo.

MALEMA LOVES TO ATTACK ZIMBABWEAN LEADERS| OPINION

BY DR MASIMBA MAVAZA| Julius Malema this week came out on eNCA TV news calling for President Mnangagwa a sell out and urging him to step down. This was because Zimbabwe has started compensate white farmers.

The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and resettlement must be an Act of Parliament that regulates land acquisition and lays down the procedure and rules for granting compensation, rehabilitation and resettlement to the affected persons in Zimbabwe. The government must provide fair compensation to those whose land is taken away, bring transparency to the process of acquisition of land to set up farming infrastructural projects and assures
rehabilitation of those affected. This should establish regulations for land acquisition as a part of Zimbabwe’s agricultural drive driven by public-private partnership.

Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement must be set aside as law.
An Act to ensure, in consultation with institutions of local self-government and established under the Constitution, a humane, participative, informed and transparent process for land compensation and development of essential infrastructural facilities and urbanisation with the least disturbance to the new owners of the land and other affected families and provide just and fair compensation to the affected families whose land has been acquired or proposed to be acquired or are affected by such acquisition, and make adequate provisions for such affected persons for their rehabilitation and resettlement and for ensuring that the cumulative outcome of compensation should be that affected persons become partners in development leading to an improvement in our agricultural sector.

Compensation is the prerogative of government to pay for developments done on land taken without the willing consent of its occupant in order to benefit society. It is a power possessed in one form or another by governments of all modern nations. This power is often necessary for social and economic development and the protection of the natural environment. Land must be provided for investments such as roads, railways, harbours and airports; for hospitals and schools; for electricity, water and sewage facilities; and for the protection against flooding and the protection of water courses and environmentally fragile areas.

A government cannot rely on land markets alone to ensure that land is acquired when and where it is needed. However, a number of encourage land grab alone without plans to rehouse the displaced. Justice require that the government should compensate the taken land in good faith after it uses its power of compulsory acquisition. This action is only fair and just.

We should remember that Compulsory acquisition requires finding the balance between the public need for land on the one hand, and the provision of land tenure security and the protection of private property rights on the other hand. In seeking this balance, zimbabwe should apply principles that ensure that the use of this power is limited, to the use for the benefit of society for public use, public purpose, or in the public interest. Legislation should define the basis of compensation for the land, and guarantee the procedural rights of people who are affected, including the right of notice, the right to be heard, and the right to appeal. It should provide for fair and transparent procedures and equivalent compensation.

The point Malema misses is that we are not buying back our land neither are we bribing the former occupants. We are reaching out to the pool of justice. We are being Zimbabweans. Zimbabweans are naturally fair and just.

We do mot approach the land issue as Black against white. We look at the issue of our land as Zimbabweans. Zimbabwe is the only country we can call ours in the whole world.

Mnangagwa is not only the president of Zimbabwe. He is a lawyer and his blood oozes for justice. By compensating the former occupiers Mnangagwa is setting a ground of fairness and justice. This can not be treated as a sign of betrayal. Malema gets it wrong when he said a position of fairness is a position of traitor-ship. This thinking is flawed and tainted with insults which are not called for.

Zimbabwe is not reneging on the gains of our land. It was the land which made Zimbabweans to pick up arms and fo to a war. The wars for our freedom was to free the blacks and white alike. It was not a racist war. The whites were allowed to stay in the great reconciliations championed by Mugabe and Mnangagwa.

What Malema failed to understand is that compensation is not buying back our land. We took our land and we are holding fast to it. We will not in any way give the land back to our colonisers. But if among those who had occupied our land before is some one who wishes to use the land for the benefit of Zimbabwe surely we will embrace him or her. Malema should know that there are some principles for legislation on compulsory acquisition. It is not dog eat dog or a confusion best explained as dog’s breakfast. It is a well thought idea which drips from natural justice to act fairly on every one hence compensating who ever deserves compensation.

Malema in his dreams puts himself as the master of land reform. He must take his seat in the classroom of patience and he must learn. Malema needs total treatment for his big mouth and brains which shows he suffers from a serious verbal and brain malfunctioning.

While Malema is respected in some areas he has been surrounded by a serious ego and he now sees himself as a leader of Africa. He forgets that he only leads EEF. His utterances about our president Mnangagwa are seriously misplaced and they have exposed his lunacy and idiocy. Malema wishes to take a hardline stance and wants Zimbabwe to be his partner in insanity.

2Compulsory acquisition is inherently disruptive and Zimbabwe has learnt from that. Even when compensation is generous and procedures are generally fair and efficient, the displacement of people from established homes, businesses and communities will still entail significant human costs. Where the process is designed or implemented poorly, the economic, social and political costs may be enormous. We have learnt our mistakes as a country and we are correcting it. Make no mistake we are not giving back land we are simply compensating for developments and hope to cove some loses encountered by the former occupants.

Principles for legislation on compulsory acquisition should include:
• Protection of due process and fair procedure. Rules that place reasonable constraints on the power of the government to compulsorily acquire land strengthen the confidence of people in the justice system, empower people to protect their land rights, and increase the perception of tenure security. Rules should provide for appropriate advance consultation, participatory planning and accessible mechanisms for appeals, and
should limit the discretion of officials. Good governance. Agencies that compulsorily acquire land should be accountable
for the good faith compensation scheme. Laws that are not observed undermine the legitimacy of compulsory acquisition.

Good governance reduces the abuse of power and opportunities for corruption. Good governance is seen in coming back and seek justice for even those who suffered under a good cause.

Claimants should be paid compensation which is no more or no less than the loss resulting from the compulsory acquisition of their land. We should ensure that affected owners and occupants receive equivalent compensation, whether in money or alternative land. Mnangagwa has set out clear and consistent valuation bases for achieving this.

Problems may arise when compulsory acquisition is not done well so compensation might look like it is bribing.
Zimbabwe has come up with policies and legislation that strengthen land rights of individuals and communities. This must never be interpreted as selling out. People may believe they lack tenure security if the government can acquire rights in private land without following defined procedures,band/or without offering adequate compensation.
To avoid Resuced investments in the economy: Insecure tenure, with the threat of
the arbitrary loss of land and associated income, discourages domestic and
foreign investment.

• Weakened land markets: Threats to tenure security so by compensating we are showing the world that we are a fair community.
We are not having transactions, to reduce the acceptability of land as collateral, this will discourage people from investing or maintaining their property, and depress land values. To avoid this in his wisdom Mnangagwa has made a decision which is in the best interest of Zimbabweans. Mnangagwa is aware of Opportunities created for corruption and the abuse of power: The lack of protection and transparency can result in injustices which anger citizens and undermine the legitimacy of government. So Mnangagwa has extended a hand of compensation which is powered by the dictates of natural justice. It is very true that Inadequate compensation paid to owners and occupants causes mayhem and distrust. Financial awards may be inadequate to allow people to enjoy sustainable livelihoods after land is acquired. People may feel that they are not compensated for the loss of cultural, religious or emotional aspects of the land. But compensation is for the developments done on the acquired land.

The constitutions of many countries provide for both the protection of private property rights and the power of the government to acquire land without the willing consent of the owner. There is, however, great variation. Some countries have broadly defined provisions for compulsory acquisition, while those of other countries are more specific.Constitutional frameworks that have broadly defined provisions concentrate on basic principles and often simply assert the power to compulsorily acquire land as the single exception to fully protected private property rights. For example, the constitution of the United States of America mandates that: “No person…shall be deprived of…property, without due process of law; nor shall private property be taken for public use without just compensation.” (Article V). Similarly, Rwanda’s constitution states: “Private property, whether individual or collective, shall be inviolable. No infringement shall take place except for the reason of public utility, in the cases and manner established by the law, and in return for fair and prior compensation.” (Title II, Article 23). Such constitutions leave the details of compulsory acquisition to other legislation and, in some instances, to the interpretation of the courts.

Other constitutional frameworks specify in detail the mechanisms by which the government can compulsorily acquire land. They tend to include a specific list of the purposes for which land may be acquired. For example, Ghana’s constitution includes provisions detailing exactly what kinds of projects allow the government to use its power of compulsory acquisition, and specifies that displaced inhabitants should be resettled on suitable alternative land (Chapter Five, Article 20). Malema obviously is mot aware that land grab is not peculiar to Zimbabwe only. It is done everywhere. The sanity of the programme is defined by the compensation programme. How Zimbabwe compensates it farmer is not a guilty plea. It is simply a gesture of unity.
Never ever mistake our forgiveness and understanding as a sign of weakness.
The Universal Declaration of Human Rights (Article 17) provides that “everyone has the right to own property alone as well as in association with others” and that “no one shall be arbitrarily deprived of his property”. The only problem is that Zimbabwe has not taken land from the owners. It took land from the illegal occupiers for the good interests of the public
Several regional conventions on human rights also protect rights to property,Everyone has the right to the use and enjoyment of his property. The law may subordinate such use and enjoyment to the interest of society. No one shall be deprived of his property except upon payment of just compensation, for reasons of public utility or social interest, and in the cases and according to the forms established by law.”

• The African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, 1986: “Article 14. The right to property shall be guaranteed. It may only be encroached upon in the interest of public need or in the general interest of the community and in accordance with the provisions of appropriate laws.” “Article 21. 1. All peoples shall freely dispose of their wealth and natural resources. This right shall be exercised in the exclusive interest of the people. In no case shall a people be deprived of it. 2. In case of spoilation, the dispossessed people shall have the right to the lawful recovery of its property as well as to an adequate compensation.”

• The European Convention on Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms, 1950, (Article 8, First Protocol): “1. Everyone has the right to respect for his private and family life, his home and his correspondence. 2. There shall be no interference by a public authority with the exercise of this right except such as is in accordance with the law and is necessary in a democratic society in the interests of national security, public safety or the economic well-being of the country, for the prevention of disorder or crime, for the protection of health or morals, or for the protection of the rights and freedoms of others.” This right is expanded by Article 1, First Protocol: “Every natural or legal person is entitled to the peaceful enjoyment of his possessions. No one shall be deprived of his possessions except in the public interest and subject to the conditions provided for by law and by the general principles of international law. The preceding provisions shall not, however, in any way impair the right of a State to enforce such laws as it deems necessary to control the use of property in accordance with the general interest or to secure the payment of taxes or other contributions or penalties.”

So Malema did not have a chance to look at these provisions. He should understand that compensation does not mean selling out. It is human to do so and the humane thing to do is as what president Mnangagwa has done.

Besides land for agriculture government may take land for undertaking improvements to roadways, sewer and power lines, communications, and other systems, the government must often secure or acquire access to private land. Without the government’s power to do so, the size and capabilities of our public infrastructure would become inadequate to serve the needs of society. The right of the government to obtain private land for public purposes is known as eminent domain, and this right derives from federal and state constitutions and related laws.

The power of eminent domain allows the government to take private land for public purposes only if the government provides fair compensation to the property owner. The process through which the government acquires private property for public benefit is known as condemnation.

How the Government Takes Private Property
As the government makes its plans for expansion and improvement of publicly maintained roads and utilities, it determines which private parcels will be affected. Once it makes that determination, the government will work with its own appraisers to determine the appropriate price for the necessary property interests. When the government has established its estimation of the property value, it may offer the landowner a particular price for the property.

Malema has wondered way offline in his spits. He suffers from a mental disorder which makes him like he is the referee.

Malema is the man who has failed to put his mouth where his mind is. He has the mind of a fly and fame of an elephant.

It is a shame that Malema rushed to comment before he understands what is happening. He has a loose mouth and needs some mouthwash to cleanse his unguided speech.

Mnangagwa can never be classified as a traitor as far as land issue is concerned.
It is a shame that such brilliance in Malema has a lunatic as a master.

Mnangagwa can never be called a traitor. He has actually become a double hero since he championed land invasion and land compensation

By Own Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration has remained silent on the recent coup effected on Sudanese President Omar Al-Bashir, who was on Thursday toppled by the country’s military after street protests for several months in the Capital Khartoum and across the country.

Bashir was arrested by his troops and a Transitional Military Council was announced to rule the country for the next two years.

The protests in Sudan were originally sparked by a rise in the cost of living, but demonstrators then began calling for the president to resign and his government to go.

When contacted for comment on Thursday over the events in Sudan, Mnangagwa’s spokesperson George Charamba said Harare would first consult with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the African Union about the events in Sudan before coming up with a position. Said Charamba:

“We can’t have a Zimbabwe position before consulting Sadc and the mother body, the African Union. We will get a cue from them. But the government is following closely developments in Sudan.”

A political scientist of world politics at the London School of Oriental and African Studies, Stephen Chan said:

This is not a replay of the Arab Spring, except that, as in Egypt, the military holds the key hand after the huge popular protests.

As in Cairo during the Arab Spring, the Sudanese and Algerian security forces refused to fire at the demonstrators. That is one huge key difference with Zimbabwe in the months after the departure of Mugabe.

Meanwhile, Piers Pigou, senior consultant at the International Crisis Group said that Sudan’s immediate future is still hazy. Said Pigou:

The story is not finished in Sudan. Protesters will understandably be unimpressed by the military retaining such an overtly political role and one expects demonstrations will continue.

A big question is whether the military will try and enforce the curfew or navigate the national mood more cautiously. It is essential that violent confrontation is avoided if possible. The Sudanese security sector does not have a reputation for sensitive crowd control!

Unlike Zimbabwe, whose military-assisted transition, maintained a veneer of legality, developments in Sudan appear to have more overtly crossed the line in terms of an unconstitutional intervention.

How will the AU respond? Bashir was regarded as a legitimately elected leader. Will they turn a blind eye as they did in Zimbabwe? The latter at least enabled a cloak of avoidance.-DailyNews

ZRP To Mount More Roadblocks To Curb Road Carnage This Holiday

By Own Correspondent- Police Commissioner General Godwin Matanga said that the Zimbabwe Republic Police will mount roadblocks on all the country’s major roads during the Independence and Easter Holidays in order to reduce traffic accidents on the roads.

Speaking to police officers at the Briefing and Debriefing of the Darfur contingent, Matanga revealed that the ZRP, VID and TSCZ shall be visible on the roads.

He said:

I wish to say in a few days’ time we shall be celebrating our nation’s independence as well as Easter.

To this end, the Zimbabwe Republic Police together with other stakeholders such as the Vehicle Inspection Department and Zimbabwe Traffic Safety Council shall be highly visible on all major roads enforcing traffic rules and regulations.

It is important that I take this opportunity on behalf of the Zimbabwe Republic Police to urge the nation especially all motorists and pedestrians to exercise extreme caution on the roads.

Let us all join hands in putting an end to carnage on our roads.

… Always remember not to drink and drive. We are also saying no to speeding.

This comes after a bus collided head-on with a minibus on Wednesday night near Gweru, killing 10 people on the spot. Eyewitnesses claimed that the driver of the bus was overspeeding.-Mail and Telegraph

The head on collision claimed 10 people on the spot while the eleventh person died at Gweru Provincial Hospital on Thursday.

Officer Commanding Gweru Traffic Chief Inspector David Kureyi confirmed the death and said six more people were still admitted at the hospital.

The government has offered RTGS$1 000 to each of the bereaved families to assist with funeral arrangements.

Said Mavima:

“….We implore drivers to value life and exercise caution on the roads. We mourn the deceased together with bereaved families.”

Prophet Lukau ‘Resurrection Man,’ Brighton Moyo Died A Painful Death, Close Relatives Say

The resurrected man when he staged the act

A Zimbabwean man who appeared to have been raised from the dead at a South African church, who was identified as Elliot Brighton Moyo, has been confirmed ‘officially’ dead by his close relatives.

According to Bulawayo tabloid, B-Metro the man’s real name is Thabiso Proud Mlanje, and not the fictitious Brighton Moyo as was identified with on social media since the ‘stunt’.

Mlanje stirred controversy a few weeks ago when a video in which he was ‘resurrected’ by Pastor Alph Luka surfaced.

Mlanje died on April 3 and was buried at his late father’s house in Dandanda Village in Lupane under Chief Mabhikwa. He was 28 and is survived by a wife and two children.

According to the late man’s family, Mlanje reportedly developed an illness before the resurrection stunt with Alph Lukau.

After the ‘resurrection miracle’, it is said that Mlanje was so afraid of South African police that he would sneak out whenever his wife, Simelweyinkosi, took him to hospital.

His wife finally brought him to Zimbabwe on 8 March and the couple stayed at Thabiso’s father-in-law’s place in the homestead in Village 2 Insuza under Chief Mtshane.

He was taken Mbembesi Clinic in Insuza on 23 March and transferred to St Luke’s Hospital in Lupane on April 1 after his health continued deteriorating. Unfortunately, he passed on April 3 and was buried on April 5.

Thabiso’s brother, Stanely Mlanje confirmed that it was indeed his brother who appeared in the resurrection stunt with Lukau. He said: “Yes, this is my brother, I am looking at him. However, I cannot explain much on details surrounding his resurrection because I was not there. I also saw him trending on social media.

“I had so many questions to ask him about that whole resurrection thing but I couldn’t because when I talked to him he was not so well so I thought I would ask him when he gets better.

“Just like everyone else, I still have questions for him but the most painful thing for me is that I will never get answers since he is dead.”

The late man’s grandmother told B-Metro that Thabiso was constantly vomiting blood when he died. She said:At the time of his death, he was constantly vomiting blood, it was such a painful death. I wish someone could properly explain to me what was happening in South Africa because I hear he was once dead for three days and was resurrected by a pastor.

“… Now what pains me is that it’s been seven years since he went to South Africa and he had never set foot home or contacted me in those seven years. I only got to see him as a corpse.

“We buried him right next to his grandfather because when he was sick he kept telling his in-laws that he wants to lie next to hisgrandfather.”

His father-in-law, Bernard Mayendayenda Sibanda told B-Metro that he was deeply distressed by what his son-in-law did. Said Sibanda: “I am still in great distress because of what my son-in-law did. I have had to deal with the police concerning his whole resurrection scheme and now since he is dead I have to answer questions I don’t know.

“It causes me pain because I didn’t know anything about what happened in South Africa. This man has put me and my family in so much trouble.” – iHarare

Is Chamisa Proving Too Strong For Mwonzora

Jane Mlambo| With the MDC now done with five provinces out of 13, it appears the incumbent leader Nelson Chamisa is proving too strong for his lieutenants Douglas Mwonzora and Elias Mudzuri who made a lot of noise about running for the party Presidency.

Yesterday, Chamisa bagged his fifth nomination with Mwonzora only getting a single nomination for the position of Secretary General while Mudzuri is still to appear on any party list.

A surprise candidate for the Secretary General Charlton Hwende has also secured four provinces with Mwonzora winning the fifth.

From The look of things, Hwende is proving equally strong and is likely to bag snatch the position from Mwonzora who is hoping to secure at least a single nomination to guarantee his candidature to face off Chamisa come 24 May.

2018 Presidential Candidate Dragged To Court For Failing To Pay $549 To Innscor

Harare Civil Court magistrate Mr Trevor Nyatsanza has ordered 2018 Presidential aspirant Brian Taurai Mteki to pay Innscor Bread Company Zimbabwe Pvt (Limited) $549,50 for bread supplied to his supermarket at Athlone Shopping Centre in Harare.

Innscor Bread Company Zimbabwe Pvt (Limited) took the dreadlocked politician to the Small Claims Court claiming $549,50 which he failed to pay. Mteki had made a counter claim against Innscor Bread Company, accusing them of forgery and fraud.

He was also claiming $10 000 of which $3 000 is for humiliation, $3 500 for psychological trauma, and $3500 for defamation which was dismissed.

“Defendant’s counter claim is dismissed for lack of jurisdiction. Plaintiff’s claim is granted in the sum of $549,50 plus interest at 5 percent from date of summons to date of full payment plus costs of suit,” said Mr Nyatsanza. The plaintiff told the court that on diverse occasions in 2018 Innscor Bread Company would supply bread to Bryn Brands Supermarket and thereafter issue an invoice for payment. “As at February 7, 2019 the defendant was indebted to the plaintiff in the sum of $$549,50.

Nyagura Application For Exception Of Charges Dismissed

A HARARE magistrate yesterday dismissed an application by former University of Zimbabwe vice-chancellor Levi Nyagura to quash the charges of criminal abuse of office he is facing.

Nyagura is accused of singlehandedly awarding former First Lady Grace Mugabe a Doctor of Philosophy Degree, but is arguing that it was former President Robert Mugabe who conferred it by virtue of being the UZ chancellor then.

Magistrate Munamato Mutevedzi ruled that Nyagura’s application was misplaced and lacked merit, saying he did not show the court cogent reasons why the court must quash the charges.

Mutevedzi said it was common knowledge that the UZ chancellor confers degrees, but the principles do not apply to the matter on hand.

“It is common knowledge that a university chancellor confers degrees, but the principle does not apply to the matter on hand. The State did not say Nyagura conferred
Ntombizodwa Grace Marufu, but the outline is clearly stated that he facilitated the conferment of degree to Marufu,” Mutevedzi said.

“The accused said the wrong remedy was used to solve the problem by criminalising an administration crisis, but the administration crisis has a criminal element which needs the court to correct and this will lead to the revocation of the degree by the UZ chancellor if the court found that he erred.”

Mutevedzi said the issue raised by Nyagura that there was no complainant is clearly misplaced saying the Ministry of Tertiary and Higher Education, which the defence said was the complainant was their creation, because the State is the complainant in the matter.

The matter was postponed to May 16 for trial commencement.

Zimbabwe Is Heading For Conflict, Citizens Urged To Find Each Other

WHITE former Zimbabwe Peoples’ Revolutionary Army (Zipra) freedom fighter, Jeremy Brickhill has warned that Zimbabwe is heading for conflict and urged citizens to find each other and stop the blame game.

Addressing a public lecture for the late Zipra commander Lookout Masuku, last week at Small City Hall in Bulawayo, Brickhill also described Finance minister Mthuli Ncube’s economic policies as a reincarnation of the infamous Economic Structural Adjustment Programme.

The memorial lecture was held under the theme Commemorating the sacrifice of the unsung heroes: Truth: Our tool and our pride by Zipra freedom fighters in partnership with Ibhetshu lika Zulu.

Masuku died in 1986.

Brickhill served in the military wing of the late Vice-President Joshua Nkomo’s Patriotic Front -Zimbabwe African People’s Union (Zapu) and has experience in conflict and post-conflict processes in Africa and the United Nations.

Brickhill said he was a political adviser in the Zipra commanders’ legal defence team, adding that this gave him the opportunity to spend more time with the late Masuku while he was in prison, and even in hospital to discuss political issues.

“We can say that we have independence, but what kind of independence is this? We go about begging, we sell resources belonging to our children and grandchildren to buy houses for our girlfriends. The skin colour has changed, but what has changed for people? No food, no fuel; this is not the Zimbabwe we fought for. There must be fair access to resources,” he said.

“During the liberation struggle, we had our own differences, but we managed them. What are we doing today? Fighting each other; shooting at demonstrators. This road is a road to conflict. A hungry man is an angry man and a hungry woman is a dangerous sister.”

Brickhill described Masuku as a strategic and determined fighter,.

“His three main wishes before his death were that he thought of his family, the bigger family of Zipra forces and the issue of the liberation war. It was his concern that the fighters and their families be rewarded, the fallen heroes be remembered and their graves be identified and upgraded, shrines be established so that those remaining should know the history, and the youth will know about the liberation struggle of Zimbabwe,’’ Brickhill said.

He further said he carried out Masuku’s wishes, which resulted in the formation of Zapu war shrines and subsequently Mafela Trust. Brickhill indicated that Zipra’s history had been suppressed for too long.

Ibhetshu lika Zulu chairperson Melusi Moyo said they wanted Zipra liberation heroes to be recognised.

Shortage Of Contraceptives Hit Matebeleland

PUBLIC health institutions in Matabeleland North and South provinces have reportedly run out of contraceptives, leaving most women stranded as they cannot afford the high prices charged by private pharmacies.

Director of family health in the Ministry of Health and Child Care, Bernard Madzima said while for the whole country they had stock of most forms of contraceptives for five months, Matabeleland was experiencing some problems attributed to challenges in the distribution chain.

“Nationally stock is not less than five months, but Mat South and North there are distribution challenges. We are working with provincial pharmacy teams to redistribute the commodities,” he said.

According to reports, some of the facilities have gone for weeks without supplies, while a few had very low supplies of oral contraceptives, injectables and implants. The province is also facing a shortage of condoms, raising concerns of an increase in sexually transmitted infections, including HIV.

“The shortage undermines women’s reproductive health rights and increases the risk of unwanted pregnancies. There are also concerns that women may be forced to resort to unsafe abortions, as a result of unwanted pregnancies,” Fungisai Dube of the Citizens Health Watch said.

The health watchdog said most of the people in the province could not afford the contraceptives and were forced to do without. Private pharmacies were stocking some contraceptives, but the prices are prohibitive with some pharmacies charging in hard currency.

“Our worry is that young people will be forced to have unprotected sex, thereby increasing the risk of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. The shortage of contraceptives will also impact teenagers with issues of teenage pregnancies,” Dube said.

Matabeleland province is one of the country’s poorest provinces and has the fourth highest number of teenage pregnancies.

“The province could continue to lag behind in its development if efforts are not stepped up to ensure reliable access to contraceptives. Family planning is a critical factor in reducing poverty. How do we meet our maternal health goals and promote family planning with these kinds of stock outs? Our national health systems need to be strengthened so we have reliable, steady supply of contraceptives country wide,” she said.

Mnangagwa Claims Sabotage In Wave Of Price Increases

President Mnangagwa has slammed the rent seeking behaviour by some business that continue to increase prices of basic goods without justification saying they were exploiting the people and hampering the attainment of Vision 2030.

Addressing the Zanu-PF National Youth Assembly in Harare yesterday, the President said a meeting between Government and various stakeholders was on the cards to find common ground.

“Government notes the present wanton, upsurge and ever escalating unjustified increase in prices,” President Mnangagwa said.

“We urge compatriots in industry, business and commerce to desist from this inhumane trend which brought untold suffering and misery to our people. Government is in the process of meeting with stakeholders in the sector for discussions around the issues. We cannot have the continued exploitation of our people by those who exhibit rent seeking behaviour.”

Some businesses are wantonly increasing prices of commodities citing movements in the exchange rate instead of predicating adjustments on inflation trends.

President Mnangagwa, who is the Zanu-PF First Secretary, said servant leadership would be the flagship of the Second Republic as

Government focuses on attaining Vision 2030 which entails turning Zimbabwe into an upper middle income by that year.

“Over the past year, I have cherished every moment of service, by all of us guided by our commitment to servant leadership,” he said.

“Even in crises and hard times, there really is no greater honour than to serve the people of Zimbabwe. No matter how you choose to serve or what you choose to do, you must always remember our core value system. As we all serve the party and nation, let us remember that Zimbabweans want to look after their families, feed and care for them.”

He said small to medium enterprises (SMEs) played a critical role in economic growth and Government hoped to see a large number of young people presenting viable small to medium sized project proposals and seek support for start-ups.

“As the National Youth Assembly and leaders from various provinces, you have the obligation to skilfully mobilise the youths to form the critical mass needed to rebuild and grow every sector of our economy,” the President said.

“I challenge you to accelerate the development of sustainable youth owned businesses. It is through the full participation of young people that we will speedily modernise, industrialise and grow our economy. The establishment of the Empowerment Bank among other initiatives is testimony of my Government’s continue commitment to improve the quality of life and opportunities for our youth. Equally, I urge you to encourage the youth to fully utilise the Innovation Incubation Hubs within institutions of higher learning as well as the India-Africa Incubation Centre. My Government will continue to expand these to all provinces so that the majority of young people benefit.”

Youths, President Mnangagwa, should also start-up businesses which sprout from the fields of information communication technology, mining and agriculture.

“There are vast opportunities that the Second Republic will continue to avail to the youth,” he said.

“You must therefore, be innovative and bold as opposed to merely wanting to be beneficiaries of charity or preferential treatment.”

Turning to politics, President Mnangagwa said he was aware of machinations by enemies to destabilise the party by causing despondency and disunity amongst leaders.

“Let us all condemn and expose these acts,” he said.

“Let me also warn that as provided by our party constitution acts of indiscipline, treachery and disloyalty will not be tolerated and condoned.”

The National Youth Assembly was also attended by the Vice Presidents and Zanu-PF Second Secretaries, Constantino Chiwenga and Kembo Mohadi.

“Prophet Gave Me Charm To Evade Arrest,” Habitual Robber

Correspondent|A HABITUAL Chipinge burglar has been jailed for two years for theft of goods worth over $600 in Buhera and Bikita after being given a charm by a prophet to evade arrest.

Tinashe Mutete was convicted on his own plea of guilty to seven counts of unlawful entry and theft when he appeared before Chipinge magistrate Joshua Nembaware.

He was sentenced to three years in prison of which 12 months were conditionally suspended for five years.

In addition, he was also fined $50, failing of which he would spend an additional five days in prison for illegal possession of dagga.

Mutete told the court that he went on a housebreaking spree after he consulted a prophet in Buhera who gave him a charm to evade police.

“I was charged $50 by the prophet from Buhera that he would sort out for me so that I won’t be arrested. That’s why I went on this spree because I believed I was not going to be arrested,” Mutete said.

The court heard that between February and March 21, Mutete went on a house-breaking and theft spree in Buhera and Bikita.

In the first count, Mutete went to Enia Jawawa’s homestead in Makanzwei village under Chief Chamutsa in Buhera where he forced open a bedroom door and stole two amplifiers and cash.

The following day, he broke into Peter Chauke’s house in the same village and stole some clothes and a cellphone.

He stole two 20-watts solar panels from Isaac Chauke’s homestead on the same day before proceeding to Bikita.

Using the same modus operandi in Bikita, he broke into Kesiya Bhegedhe, Shingirai Bungu, Patricia Ndawana and Tebetha Kusina’s homesteads and stole various goods.

However, his luck ran out after police recovered some of the stolen property he had sold and was implicated by the buyers, leading to his arrest.

Police Effectively Ban Demonstrations In Zimbabwe

Correspondent: Public demonstrations in Zimbabwe are banned, it appears indefinitely because of the violent protests that rocked the country on the 14th of January after President Emmerson Mnanggwa hiked the prices of fuel.

A letter sent to a Youth Organisation the National Association of Youth Organisations (NAYO) requesting permission to petition parliament the police said, “People are still nursing the effects of 14-16 January demonstrations that resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.

“Your march be hijacked by some rogue and unruly elements who thrive on destruction of property and not worried about the consequences of their activities.”

Zanu Pf Hits Back At Malema, “You Are Ignorant”

By Own Correspondent- Zanu Pf has responded to Julius Malema’s statement describing the Economic Freedom Front (EFF) leader as ignorant.

The party said Malema’s statements are not only misinformed, but they disappointingly defy logic.

Secretary for Administration, Simon Khaya Moyo said in a statement:

“Malema has displayed a malicious ignorance to comprehend the history of the Land Reform Program and the liberation struggle.

….How can he (Malema) insult President Mnangagwa, a man of such distinguished liberation credentials? It defies logic.”

Malema is on record describing Mnangagwa as a sell out who is bent on reversing the gains of the land reform program.

Said Malema:

“It’s a sellout position. The way he is going about it, he is not going to finish his term.

That country (Zimbabwe) is swimming in a pool of poverty; they can’t afford basic things like primary health, proper education and infrastructure.

He gets money and goes to give it to people who are not deserving. He is reversing the gains of the revolutionary struggle. It’s unsustainable.

They [white farmers] do not deserve any compensation. Mnangagwa is a sellout. We thought he was going to bring fresh air in Zimbabwe, but he is continuing to be worse than what we have experienced before.

Very soon, the people of Zimbabwe will turn against them and he won’t have anywhere to run.”

One Killed Several Critically Injured In Gwanda Cross Border Shoppers Accident

The Toyota Granvia lies in a stream after the accident. Nine people were critically injured and one died on the spot.

Own Correspondent|At least one person is confirmed to have died after a Toyota Granvia carrying cross border traders from Messina in South Africa to Gwanda was involved in an accident with a South African bound minibus at Colleen Bawn mine just outside Gwanda town.

Witnesses at the scene of the accident which happened on Thursday evening told ZimEye.com that the driver of the Toyota Granvia encroached onto the lane of an on coming South African registered Toyota Quantum with a trailer who avoided a head on collision but could only leave the trailer to collide with the Toyota Granvia.

“The driver of the Gwanda town bound Toyota Granvia lost control of the vehicle after colliding with the trailer and plunged the vehicle into a stream off the road,” said a witness.

“He was very lucky not to have a head on collision with the Quantum which also had a number of people in it and the accident could have been worse, ” added the witness.

According to the witnesses, the driver of the Granvia was speeding in a very bad rainy weather which may have caused him to encroach into the oncoming Toyota Quantum at a sharp curve due to poor visibility.

Nine of the passengers from the vehicle are all admitted at Gwanda hospital with some in a critical condition awaiting to be transferred to the United Bulawayo Hospital according to hospital authorities in Gwanda.

No-one from the South African bound vehicle was injured.

The accident comes on the heels of a similar accident that killed a dozen people in Gweru on Wednesday after a speeding kombi driver had a head-on collision with a bus.

Zimbabwe’s Easter Holidays are known for a high number of traffic accidents as people travel a lot during the period. Since Thursday the number of people travelling for the long weekend next week has started increasing after schools closed on Wednesday.

Police Spokesperson Paul Nyathi called on drivers to exercise extra caution on the roads as the holidays approach.
