“Don’t Try Violence In Zim”: Zivhu

By A Correspondent- Former Zanu PF stalwart Killer Zivhu has warned Zimbabweans against engaging in acts of violence like what is happening in Swaziland and South Africa.

Said Zivhu:

Trio Nabbed In S.A Over Illegal Chrome

Three Zimbabwean men and a South African national have been arrested by police in Limpopo province who had found them with three truckloads of chrome believed to have been illegally mined.

Limpopo provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo said the four were arrested on Tuesday night along the R37 road in Apel policing area.

He said Lloyd Sithole (32), Moses Nemanganda (37), and Wilton Haruzi (34) all Zimbabweans ad a local man, Joseph Hlongwane (23) will soon appear at the Sekhukhune Magistrate court charged for illegal mining.

“The determination of members of the South African Police Service in Limpopo to eradicate activities of illegal mining, led to the arrest of four suspects during disruptive operations that were conducted by members of Public Order Policing on Tuesday night along the R37 road in the Apel policing area,” said Brig Mojapelo.

“The members spotted three trucks along this road and pulled them over. The trucks were found with loads of suspected unprocessed chrome and were all confiscated. The four suspects were then apprehended”.

The value of the chrome is yet to be ascertained.

Limpopo’s Provincial police commander Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe said the latest arrest would go a long way in eradicating illegal mining activities in the province.

Shock As Two Pregnant Women Are Raped At Maternity Shelter

Pregnant woman

By A Correspondent- Two men broke into the room where the expecting mothers were sleeping through one of the windows and raped them.

An online publication reported that three expecting mothers were in the room when the men broke in. One of the three women reacted quickly and managed to flee from the room.

Unfortunately, the two other women were not as quick. There were set upon by the two invaders who went on to rape them.

The women are reported to have been at least 8 months pregnant and were being housed at Maphisa District Hospital.

Rural hospitals in Zimbabwe allow pregnant women to stay at the hospital’s maternity houses when they are a few weeks away from their expected delivery date. This is done to ensure that the expecting mothers who may be from remote areas without transport, can safely deliver and receive the medical care that they may need.

The police are yet to arrest the two men who carried out the heinous abuse of the two pregnant women.

Assistant Inspector Thabani Mkhwananzi of Matabeleland South police told the publication,

“We haven’t yet made an arrest and investigations are still underway.”

Matabeleland South Provincial Medical Director Dr Rudo Chikodzore said that ministry of health was working on plans to improve the security at the hospitals. Chikodzore told the Sunday News.

“We’ve intensified patrols by our guards and we plan to repair the vandalised perimeter fence, erect burglar bars, and screen doors in all departments.”

“The ministry has also installed a huge solar plant so we need to erect street lights within the institution as well.”

Chikodzore also said that, unfortunately, attacks on pregnant women are actually more common than people may think. However, she did not provide statistics for the attack.

“ZEC Ready For By Elections As Soon As ED Okays The Move”

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) says it is ready to run by-elections, but was waiting for a go-ahead from President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

ZEC commissioner responsible for media liaison Qhubani Moyo on Sunday told NewsDay that they have kept some electoral activities open and are waiting for the lifting of the suspension on elections imposed by the government because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Said Moyo:There are no developments in that area (holding of by-elections) as we wait for the lifting of the embargo that has been enforced due to the public health emergency of COVID-19.

The proclamation of elections is done by the President and not by us, so the dates are set by the President.

As a commission, we are waiting to get the directive in terms of the dates, but on our part, we have kept open for electoral activities that do not require the physical interaction of many people.

In April this year, ZEC chief elections officer Utloile Silaigwana said they will be guided by the Ministry of Health and Child Care on the resumption of some electoral activities.

Silaigwana stated that Section 86 of the Constitution limits freedoms in the interest of public safety, public health and the general interest of the public.

He said:

Where such rights are limited through a Statutory Instrument and which instrument has not been set aside by a court of law, the Commission has no right to disregard lawful obligations.

AAG Throws Passion Java Under The Bus

By Jane Mlambo| A Zanu PF aligned empowerment organisation, the Affirmative Action Group (AAG) has thrown flamboyant cleric Passion Java under the bus following his open campaign for Mary Mliswa’s to fill the vacant Mashonaland West provincial chairmanship in what has destabilised the Phillip Chiyangwa backed grouping.

Java, last week, endorsed Mary Mliswa-Chikoka, a move that incensed other AAG members including controversial businessman Delish Nguwaya who has since resigned from his post due to his close connection with Vengai Musengi who is also vying for the influential post.

The position became vacant following the elevation of Ziyambi Ziyambi to the politburo.

AAG president, Mike Chimombe was at the weekend forced to denounce Java’s statements saying attempts to link the organisation with Zanu PF Mashonaland West province were misguided.

“The comments that were made by the Vice President Passion Java were in his personal opinions and do not represent AAG. It is, therefore, futile to try and malign the reputation of the AAG leadership and what it stands for by associating the organisation with the remarks made by Vice President Java in his personal capacity,” Chimombe, who is also a Zanu PF youth leader, said.

Anna and Shugeta during happier times

Following Anna Chibaby Honde’s post Jiti singer got social media talking after he offered a shoulder to lean on.

ERC Renews Chief Charumbira Pressure

By Jane Mlambo| The Election Resource Centre has renewed its push to have Chiefs Council President Fortune Charumbira respect a High Court ruling ordering him to retract his remarks

In a statement, ERC lauded Charumbira for the remarks he made at a funeral in Masvingo province over the weekend where he denounced political violence during elections.

“The Election Resource Centre welcomes the pronouncements made by Chief’s Council President Chief Fortune Charumbira denouncing politically motivated violence during elections, an end to politicisation of food aid as well as the call for citizens to be united,” said ERC.

The elections lobby group further called on Charumbira to be exemplary as the Pan African Parliament leader to comply with a 2018 court order to retract his partisan statement in favour of the ruling Zanu PF.

Addressing mourners at a funeral in Nemamwa area, Masvingo, Charumbira said politics should not divide people adding that citizens are free to vote whoever they want without threat of violence.

“Each person must be allowed to exercise his or her democratic right to campaign or vote for a political party of choice. We are relatives in this community therefore those who come to campaign must not leave us divided or in hatred .” said Chief Charumbira to loud cheer from mourners.

“We know political parties during elections time they come with vote buying and empty promises .That should not divide us.Each person should vote as per his or her choice,” he added.

He also discouraged politicisation of food aid said it should be distributed as per set rules not political affiliation.

“Ini saMambo wenyu handide kuti chikafu chinopihwa vanhu ndigonzwa kuti panyimwa munhu nokuda kwekuti ndewe party ipi ! Kana chanzi its for 80 year olds munhu wese ngaapihwe anotadza kupihwa must be 79year and below kwete zvekuti ndewe MDC kana ZanuPF” further remarked Charumbira.

Chiefs in Zimbabwe have for years been an organ used by the ruling Zanu PF to fan division and violence mostly in rural areas and Charumbira’s climbdown could be welcome news to rural populace who are living in fear of supporting any other parties besides the ruling party.

AAG “Dumps” Passion Java

By A Correspondent- The Affirmative Action Group (AAG) has distanced itself from recent remarks made by controversial preacher, Passion Java.

Java, last week, endorsed Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs minister Mary Mliswa-Chikoka as his choice for the ZANU PF Mashonaland West provincial chairperson post.

The post became vacant last month after the incumbent, Justice Minister Ziyambi Ziyambi, was promoted to be a member of the powerful Politburo.

Java has in recent months been hobnobbing with senior ZANU PF officials, including President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

However, his endorsement of Mliswa-Chikoka has not been well received by the AGG where Java is also its vice president.

The economic empowerment lobby group’s president, Mike Chimombe, last week distanced the AAG from Java’s comments, saying the self-styled prophet was speaking in his personal capacity. Said Chimombe:

The comments that were made by Vice President Passion Java were in his personal opinions and do not represent AAG.

It is, therefore, futile to try and malign the reputation of the AAG leadership and what it stands for by associating the organisation with the remarks made by Vice President Java in his personal capacity.

Java’s rise in the AAG has reportedly ignited deep divisions among board members.

At the weekend, another controversial businessman with strong ZANU PF links, Delish Nguwaya, who was the AAG consulting advisor responsible for security, resigned from the organisation.

Nguwaya accused Java of unprofessionalism as shown by his interference in ZANU PF factional fights.

Java has since been summoned by the AAG leadership to make a retraction and align his utterances to himself.

Chimombe insisted the AAG is not in the business of endorsing or campaigning for political candidates.

Safeguard Urges Householders To Create Safe Zones Within Their Home

Safeguard Security men

By A Correspondent | With the increase there has been in armed robberies, Safeguard Security has urged householders to create safe zones within their homes that they and their family can take refuge in if their home is broken into.

Those who live in houses where there is a door or doors closing off the passage to their bedroom wing can create a basic safe zone by locking those doors at night.

However, determined thieves can probably break through the standard door. Safeguard Engineering manager Tinarwo Chiremba recommends that such doors be reinforced by installing an Xpanda gate behind or in front of it. If it is a self-locking gate with a slam lock, it can be slam locked after the last person has gone through it, even during the day if there is a daytime break-in.

Many people these days have alarm systems installed within their homes linked to a rapid response service, enabling them to summon assistance in the event of a break-in by pressing a panic button or by the triggering of their alarm. If they have a safe zone, they can take refuge there while awaiting the rapid response team.

Mr Chiremba pointed out that, while Safeguard response teams arrive quickly after an alarm signal has been picked up, armed intruders can cause immense harm even within the few minutes it takes a response team to arrive.

“Many people have made efforts to secure their homes against intruders through security fences, security walls and burglar bars. However, if robbers manage to get through your exterior defences and gain access into your home, you need to have a back-up plan and creating a safe room or zone is the most appropriate,” Mr Chiremba said.

“A safe zone is usually located in the bedroom section of your home that can be closed off at the entrance to the passage that leads to the bedrooms.

“Safe rooms can be easily incorporated into your living space and can even add value to a home if you ever consider putting it on the market,” Mr Chiremba added.

He said that a safe zone was most effective where there was an alarm system installed, since the triggering of an alarm would allow family members time to go to the safe room or zone. The alarm should ideally be radio-linked to an effective security rapid response service.

“Select an area of your home that ideally has only one point of entry and install an Xpanda security gate there. If there is a door closing off the point of entry, install the Xpanda security gate in front of or behind it. For even better protection, replace the existing door with a solid core or reinforced door and then have an Xpanda security gate installed behind or in front of it for added protection.

“Most modern homes are fitted with standard core doors which are good for providing privacy and reducing the sound that can pass through it but will not hold up to being kicked in by an intruder,” he said.

SAFE ZONE TWO LAST

“Windows also need to be adequately secured in the safe room or zone. In order to ensure they can be used as an escape route for the family, if necessary, while denying access to intruders, it is best to install strong retractable barriers or security screens that can only be opened from the inside.

“Make sure you keep a mobile phone and panic button in your safe room or zone. You may also consider keeping a charger in case the phone battery is low as well as a power bank in case the intruders cut the electricity off or there is power failure, as well as a torch.

“The phone and panic button can be used to call or alert your rapid response service, the police and other emergency contacts such as your family, friends and neighbours,” Mr Chiremba added.

Other things to keep in the safe zone that Mr Chiremba mentioned include emergency medication, water and a defensive spray.

“Zimbabwe has been experiencing a sharp rise in violent crime. It is therefore important to have contingency plans that can improve your safety in the event that intruders gain entry into your home,” Mr Chiremba said.

Roki, Passion Java Speak On Million Youtube Views For Uchandifunga

Uchandifunga

Flamboyant self-styled prophet Passion Java together with urban grooves musician, Roki have refuted allegations that they bought views for the latter’s new hit single, “Uchandifunga”.

This comes after  “Uchandifunga”  broke the local record as the fastest song to hit a million views on Youtube.

The song was uploaded on YouTube on 1 July and had achieved 425 000 views after four days but the views suddenly shot up to 1.2 million within a few hours, leaving observers amazed.

“Uchandifunga” became the fastest video to attain one million views by a Zimbabwean artist in just a short space of 4 days beating a previous record held by Winky D who pulled one million views in just under a week with “Mugarden”.

Commenting on the allegations, Prophet Passion Java denied claims that they used YouTube view bots to boost view count. He said:

It’s embarrassing that as a country we’ve not had a video with one million views in one day.

Everyone knows my favourite artist is uncle Poptain. If I could buy views, it would probably for him.

I personally don’t have a video with one million views (on YouTube). Don’t you think if I could do it I would have bought some views for myself?

Appearing alongside Passion Java, Roki maintained that the views were legit.

If I get a million views, they say I’ve stolen. If others do it, they are cheered and told they’re good. Why? Is it because God is theirs only?

After the million views hit, the music video has managed to garner just 200 000 more views in three days. This development has further fueled suspicions that the 700 000 plus votes came from a bot.

Mnangagwa Proposes Anti Corruption Curricular For ECD Kids: NECESSARY or UTTER NONSENSE?

To win the anti-corruption war, Zimbabweans must be empowered to hold office bearers both in the public and private sector to account, while plans are afoot to introduce anti-corruption curricula from ECD to tertiary education, President Mnangagwa has said.
He was speaking during a virtual commemoration of the 5th African Anti-Corruption Day yesterday, where he also launched the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Strategic plan for 2021 to 2023, a roadmap for the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to fulfil its mandate.

This comes as the Second Republic has put in place multiple mechanisms to tackle the scourge of corruption, which remains one of the greatest threats to the country and Africa’s development.

President Mnangagwa said his administration will not shy away from taking corruption by the horns as it has the debilitating effects of retarding economic growth and development.

“Corruption prevention programmes should be strengthened,” he said.

“These should include systems and compliance checks, the introduction of curricula on corruption, ethics and integrity in schools from ECD level right up to universities.”

The African Anti-Corruption Day was held under the theme “Regional Economic Communities: Critical factors in the implementation of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC)”.

“As we commemorate this year’s African Anti-Corruption Day, let us redouble our efforts to end the scourge of corruption towards an Africa free of corruption,” said President Mnangagwa.

“To succeed, the fight against corruption requires a multi-stakeholder approach.

“To this end, my Government stands committed to the establishment of democratic, transparent, accountable, strong, and efficient institutions in our great country. Our vision of an upper-middle-income economy status by 2030 will be achieved if we collectively condemn corruption in a frank manner.

“Citizens must be empowered to actively demand accountability. The leadership across all sectors, political and economic spheres at all levels are challenged to be disciplined and execute their duties with integrity and professionalism.

“The interests of our people and the nation must always come first.”

Zimbabwe has taken concrete steps to tackle the bane of corruption, with the Second Republic strengthening bodies like the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) to execute their roles with minimal hindrance.

Apart from ZACC, police and the Special Anti-Corruption Unit have also been mandated to go a gear up in the fight against corruption.

“Today, I am pleased to be launching the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Strategic plan for 2021 to 2023 which is a roadmap for the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission to fulfill its vision of a citizenry and institutions that uphold integrity, good governance for a corruption-free Zimbabwe by 2030,” said President Mnangagwa.

This comes after President Mnangagwa last year launched the National Anti-Corruption Strategy, which will run until 2024 as part of the broader fight against corruption, with the national steering committee that comprises senior Government officials, legislators, public and private sector as well as civic society already in place.

The integrity pledges, which will be signed by senior officials and members of political parties, have been drafted.

Harnessing ICT, the President said, laws will be passed to strengthen anti-corruption legislation, while at the same time public entities are directed to put in place technology-based procedures and processes which curtail and reduce the use of discretionary power by public officials.

“Those positions of authority in public and private sectors, as well as those in the civic society, in community-based organisations, are challenged always to uphold principles of good corporate governance, transparency and accountability,” said the President.

“Meanwhile, the Ministry of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs is urged to expedite the amendment of the Whistle-blower and Protection Act to protect our citizens and motivate them to bring forward any suspected cases of corruption.

“The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission is extorted to increase the institution’s capacity to recover ill-gotten wealth through the asset recovery unity. Collaborating with countries of origin should be increased to ensure the freezing of ill acquired assets and ensuring repatriation of the stolen or illegally acquired funds.

“Perpetrators of corruption stand warned that they cannot hide, the long arm of the law will surely catch up with them. I am optimistic that the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission strategic plan will go a long way to combating corruption and improving transparency, accountability systems in all sectors of the economy.”

President Mnangagwa said Government will continue to support the work of the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission as the main institution mandated by the Constitution to combat corruption.

“I urge the National Prosecuting Authority, the Zimbabwe Republic Police and all the old the key stakeholders in the anti-corruption chain to work in unison professionally and effectively in the discharge of their mandate without any fear or favour,” he said.

With corruption often going beyond borders, the President underscored the importance of creating synergies and collaborations on the African continent to root the malpractice which is estimated to cost the continent US$50 billion annually.

“Corruption is indeed among the greatest threats bedevilling the African continent; it barricades sustainable socio-economic development and the betterment of livelihoods of our citizens,” said President Mnangagwa.

“The scourge of corruption is all-encompassing and rooted in both public and private sectors, as well as among non-state actors. It often manifests through the deliberate manipulation of rules and expropriation of public resources for personal or group use. The consequence of this maleficence is that the majority of the citizens are affected, while development is retarded or deferred.” – Herald

Pregnant Woman Loses Boyfriend, Punished For Testing Covid Positive

A PREGNANT woman from Hwange in Matabeleland North recently lost her job and has become homeless with her two minor children after being abandoned by her boyfriend and family because she tested positive to Covid-19.
An ambulance crew picked her from the streets on a freezing Monday night with her children aged six and nine, who are not infected with the virus. She is now housed at an isolation centre with the children.

Her heartbreaking story exposes how some communities still stigmatise people infected with the coronavirus, more than 15 months after it hit the country.

The woman whose identity has been withheld for ethical reasons, tested Covid-19 positive upon visiting Lukosi Hospital in Hwange to receive prenatal care.

Sources said the woman was a maid at Baobab low density suburb but her employer was the first to chuck her out. She moved to her mother’s home in Mpumalanga DRC section where she was also chased away.

The woman is said to have sought refuge at her live-in boyfriend’s home in Mpumalanga suburb where she was also chased away. A Hwange Local Board (HLB) ambulance crew located her on the street after an anonymous tip-off.

“HLB officials took her to the council clinic where she slept overnight before she was taken to Five Miles Isolation Centre where she is now quarantined. The isolation centre is not ready to attend to any patient at the moment so the woman has to cook for herself and her children. There is no food and none of her relatives have come to assist her. Her live-in boyfriend came once and promised to return for the children. He has not been heard from ever since.

There is a real risk that she might even infect her children with Covid-19. She had to be rescued by well-wishers who had to bring food for her to cook at the facility,” said a source.

Hwange District Medical Officer Dr Fungai Musinami confirmed the case.

“We got a report that one patient that had been diagnosed Covid-19-positive had been chased away from where she stays. We managed to pick her up and have accommodated her at Five Miles Isolation Centre with her two children who are Covid-19 negative. In terms of being isolated with her kids, it’s not really a big problem because we have enough room so that they may not cross-contaminate each other while they are at File Miles,” said Dr Musinami.

“But obviously on humanitarian grounds, for someone to then be out on the street in the middle of the night with her children while also pregnant it’s not a good situation. It’s cold and uncomfortable. That was not a good situation for her. Yes, she might be getting medical care on her pregnancy but family support would have been good at this time. She does not having severe symptoms.”

She said the way the woman was handled points to stigmatisation and it was worrying that such cases should be reported at a time when there is so much information on Covid-19 being circulated.

Dr Musinami said not all Covid-19-positive patients need to be institutionally quarantined.

“That will overcome our health centres, it will overwhelm our staff. We have people who are Covid-19-positive but asymptomatic. We cannot be putting those people into facilities, where we would have people watching over them, feeding them and using all those resources when people can isolate at home. We are continuing to educate the community not to stigmatise but continue to practising precautions that we have been talking about. We will continue to talk about hand sanitisation, masking up and observing social distancing,” said Dr Musinami.

She said the isolation centre was able to handle non-critical cases as it does not have oxygen facilities.

Matabeleland North acting Provincial Medical Director Dr Munekayi Padingani said the province was recording an increase in the number of pregnant women testing Covid-19-positive.

“We are actually recording an outbreak of Covid-19 among women but our facilities are not equipped to handle pregnant women. We are mainly attending to those women whom we know would have recovered by the time they deliver. We don’t have theatres to assist in having women delivering in our institutions and we have to refer them to hospitals in Bulawayo,” said Dr Padingani.

He said delivering babies entails a lot of contact and this means that there is a need to enhance protection for health workers as well as the mother.

Centre for Health Communication Zimbabwe communications and advocacy officer Ms Andile Tshuma said the case exposed how women, especially pregnant ones can be vulnerable.

“This situation is even stressful for her unborn child because when the mother is stressed, the child would become stressed as well. This will affect the woman’s well-being especially at a time the country is dealing with high cases of maternal mortality cases. We are also hearing that Covid-19 cases among pregnant women are on the increase at hospitals such as Mpilo Central Hospital. This means that Government has to pay attention to improving access to health care particularly on maternal health care,” said Ms Tshuma.

She said the case also points to issues of stigmatisation where communities do not seem to understand Covid-19 issues.

Ms Tshuma said as Covid-19 cases are mainly reported at institutional level, such incidents could lead to some women shunning health centres because of fear of being confirmed as having the virus. -Chronicle

  5. Tobacco makes your skin wrinkly, making you look older faster. Smoking prematurely ages the skin by wearing away proteins that give the skin elasticity, depleting it of vitamin A and restricting blood flow.
  6. These wrinkles are more apparent around the lips and eyes and tobacco also makes skin leathery and dry.
  7. Tobacco smoking increases the risk of developing psoriasis, a noncontagious inflammatory skin condition that leaves itchy, oozing red patches all over the body. It threatens the health of your friends and family – not just you.
  8. Over 1 million people die every year from exposure to second-hand smoke.
  9. Non-smokers exposed to second-hand smoke are at risk of developing lung cancer.
  10. Cigarettes remain an important cause of accidental fires and resulting deaths.
  11. E-cigarettes also expose non-smokers and bystanders to nicotine and other harmful chemicals.
  12. Being exposed to second-hand smoke may increase the risk of progression from tuberculosis infection to active disease.
  13. Being exposed to second-hand smoke is associated with type 2 diabetes.

Smoking or using e-cigarettes around children compromises their health and safety

  1. Smokers’ children suffer reduced lung function, which continues to affect them in the form of chronic respiratory disorders in adulthood.
  2. Exposure of children to e-cigarette liquid continues to pose serious risks. There is a risk of the devices leaking, or of children swallowing the liquid.
  3. E-cigarettes have been known to cause serious injuries, including burns, through fires and explosions.
  4. School-aged children exposed to the harmful effects of second-hand smoke are also at risk for asthma through inflammation of the airways to the lungs.
  5. Children under 2 years of age who are exposed to second-hand smoke in the home could get middle-ear disease possibly leading to hearing loss and deafness.
  6. Quitting smoking decreases the risk of many diseases related to second-hand smoke in children, such as respiratory diseases (e.g., asthma) and ear infections.

Tobacco use has negative social consequences

  1. You want to be a good example for your kids, friends, and loved ones.
  2. Tobacco use can affect social interactions and relationships negatively.
  3. Quitting means there are no restrictions on where you can go – you can mingle socially, without feeling isolated or having to go outside to smoke.
  4. Quitting can make you more productive – you won’t have to stop what you are doing to have a smoke all the time.

It’s expensive – you could be spending your money on more important things

  1. One study found that smokers burn through an average of $1.4 million in personal costs, includes spending on cigarettes, medical costs and lower wages brought on by smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke.
  2. Tobacco use affects the health and productivity of workers making them prone to missed days at work.
  3. Tobacco use contributes to poverty by diverting household spending from basic needs such as food and shelter to tobacco.
  4. Tobacco use burdens the global economy with an estimated US$ 1.4 trillion in healthcare costs for treating the diseases caused by tobacco and lost human capital from tobacco-attributable sickness and death.
  5. Smokers are more likely to experience infertility. Quitting smoking reduces difficulty getting pregnant, having premature births, babies with low birth weights and miscarriage.
  6. Smoking can cause erectile dysfunction. Smoking restricts blood flow to the penis creating an inability to achieve an erection. Erectile dysfunction is more common in smokers and very likely to persist or become permanent unless the man stops smoking early in life.
  7. Smoking also diminishes sperm count, motility and shape of the sperm in men.

All forms of tobacco are deadly

  1. Every year, over 8 million people die from tobacco.
  2. Tobacco kills half of its users. Use of tobacco in any form robs you of your health and causes debilitating diseases.
  3. Smoking shisha is just as harmful as other forms of tobacco use.
  4. Chewing tobacco can cause mouth cancer, tooth loss, brown teeth, white patches and gum disease.
  5. The nicotine in smokeless tobacco is more easily absorbed than by smoking cigarettes enhancing its addictiveness.

When you buy tobacco, you are financially supporting an industry that exploits farmers and children and pedals sickness and death.

  1. Tobacco growers are exposed to ill health by nicotine that is absorbed through the skin, as well as exposure to heavy pesticides and exposure to tobacco dust.
  2. In some countries, children are employed in tobacco farming, which impacts not only their health, but also their ability to attend school.
  3. Tobacco use can worsen poverty since tobacco users are at much higher risk of falling ill and dying prematurely of cancers, heart attacks, respiratory diseases or other tobacco-related diseases, depriving families of much-needed income and imposing additional costs for health care.
  4. The vast majority employed in the overall tobacco sector earn very little, while the big tobacco companies reap enormous profits.

Heated tobacco products are harmful to health

  1. Heated tobacco products (HTPs) expose users to toxic emissions many of which can cause cancer.
  2. Heated tobacco products are themselves tobacco products, therefore, switching from conventional tobacco products to HTPs does not equal quitting.
  3. There is insufficient evidence to support the claim that heated tobacco products (HTPs) are less harmful relative to conventional cigarettes.

E-cigarettes are harmful to health and not safe
The secret is out: The tobacco industry targets the vulnerable

  1. Children and adolescents who use e-cigarettes at least double their chance of smoking cigarettes later in life.
  2. E-cigarette use increases your risk of heart disease and lung disorders.
  3. Nicotine in e-cigarettes is a highly addictive drug that can damage children’s developing brains.

Tobacco use, particularly smoking, takes your breath awaylandscape no tobacco

  1. Tobacco use is responsible for 25% of all cancer deaths globally.
  2. Smokers are up to 22 times more likely to develop lung cancer in their lifetime than non-smokers. Tobacco smoking is the primary cause of lung cancer, causing over two thirds of lung cancer deaths globally.
  3. One in five tobacco smokers will develop chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) in their lifetime, especially people who start smoking during their childhood and teenage years, since tobacco smoke significantly slows lung growth and development.
  4. Smoking can exacerbate asthma in adults, restricting their activity, contributing to disability and increasing the risk of severe asthma attacks requiring emergency care.
  5. Tobacco smoking more than doubles the risk of transforming tuberculosis from a latent state to an active state, and is also known to worsen the natural progression of the disease. About one quarter of the world’s population has latent tuberculosis.

Tobacco breaks hearts

  1. Just a few cigarettes a day, occasional smoking, or exposure to second-hand smoke increase the risk of heart disease.
  2. Tobacco smokers have up to twice the risk of stroke and a fourfold increased risk of heart disease.
  3. Tobacco smoke damages the arteries of the heart, causing the build-up of plaque and development of blood clots, thereby restricting blood flow and eventually leading to heart attacks and strokes.
  4. Use of nicotine and tobacco products increases the risk of cardiovascular disease.

Tobacco causes over 20 types of cancer

  1. Smoking and smokeless tobacco use cause oral cancer, cancers of the lips, throat (pharynx and larynx) and oesophagus.
  2. Surgical removal of the cancerous larynx can lead to the need for tracheostomy, the creation of a hole in the neck and windpipe that allows the patient to breathe.
  3. Smokers are at a significantly higher risk of developing acute myeloid leukaemia; cancer of the nasal and paranasal sinus cavities; colorectal, kidney, liver, pancreatic, stomach or ovarian cancer; and cancer of the lower urinary tract (including the bladder, ureter and renal pelvis).
  4. Some studies have also demonstrated a link between tobacco smoking and an increased risk of breast cancer, particularly among heavy smokers and women who start smoking before their first pregnancy.
  5. Smoking is also known to increase the risk of cervical cancer in women infected with human papillomavirus.

Smokers are more likely to lose their vision and hearing

  1. Smoking causes many eye diseases which, if left untreated, can lead to permanent vision loss.
  2. Smokers are more likely than non-smokers to develop age-related macular degeneration, a condition that results in irreversible vision loss.
  3. Smokers also have a higher risk of cataracts, a clouding of the eye’s lens that blocks light. Cataracts cause vision impairment, and surgery is the only option to restore vision.
  4. Some evidence suggests that smoking also causes glaucoma, a condition that increases pressure in the eye and can damage eyesight.
  5. Adult smokers are more likely to suffer hearing loss.

Tobacco harms almost every organ of the body

  1. Lifelong tobacco smokers lose at least 10 years of life on average.
  2. With every puff of a cigarette, toxins and carcinogens are delivered to the body, at least 70 of the chemicals are known to cause cancer.
  3. The risk of developing diabetes is higher in smokers.
  4. Smoking is a risk factor for dementia, a group of disorders that result in mental decline.
  5. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common form of dementia, and an estimated 14% of Alzheimer’s cases globally can be attributed to smoking.
  6. Women who smoke are more likely to experience painful menstruation and more severe menopausal symptoms.
  7. Menopause occurs 1–4 years earlier in female smokers because smoking reduces the production of eggs in the ovaries, resulting in a loss of reproductive function and subsequent low estrogen levels.
  8. Tobacco smoke reduces the delivery of oxygen to the body’s tissues.
  9. Tobacco use restricts blood flow which, if left untreated, can lead to gangrene (death of body tissue) and amputation of affected areas.
  10. Tobacco use increases the risk of periodontal disease, a chronic inflammatory disease that wears away at the gums and destroys the jawbone, leading to tooth loss.
  11. Tobacco smokers are at significantly higher risk than non-smokers for post-surgical complications.
  12. Tobacco smokers are harder to wean off mechanical ventilation. This often lengthens their intensive care unit (ICU) and overall hospital stay, potentially exposing them to other infection.
  13. Smokers are likely to experience gastrointestinal disorders, such as stomach ulcers, inflammatory bowel disease, associated with abdominal cramps, persistent diarrhea, fever and rectal bleeding, and cancers of the gastrointestinal tract.
  14. Smokers are more likely to lose bone density, fracture more easily and experience serious complications, such as delayed healing or failure to heal.
  15. Components of tobacco smoke weaken the immune system, putting smokers at risk of pulmonary infections.
  16. Smokers with a genetic predisposition to autoimmune disorders are at an increased risk of several diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, Crohn’s disease, bacterial meningitis, postsurgical infection, and cancers.
  17. Smoking also puts immune-compromised individuals, such as those living with cystic fibrosis, multiple sclerosis or cancer, at a higher risk of disease-related comorbidities and premature death.
  18. The immunosuppressive effects of tobacco put people living with HIV at an increased risk of developing AIDS. Among HIV-positive smokers, the average length of life lost is 12.3 years, more than double the number of years lost by HIV-positive non-smokers.

Tobacco and nicotine use harm your baby

  1. Tobacco use and exposure to tobacco smoke during pregnancy increase the risk for fetal death.
  2. Women who smoke or are exposed to second-hand smoke during pregnancy are at an increased risk of miscarriage.
  3. Stillbirths (the delivery of fetuses that have died in the womb) are also more common owing to fetal oxygen deprivation and placental abnormalities induced by carbon monoxide in tobacco smoke and by nicotine in tobacco smoke and smokeless tobacco.

  1. Smokers are at higher risk of ectopic pregnancy, a potentially fatal complication for the mother in which the fertilized egg attaches outside the uterus.
  2. Smoking cessation and protection from exposure to second-hand smoke are especially important for women of reproductive age planning to become pregnant and during pregnancy.
  3. E-cigarettes pose significant risks to pregnant women who use them, as they can damage the growing fetus.
  4. Infants born to women who smoke, use smokeless tobacco, or are exposed to second-hand smoke during pregnancy have a higher risk of preterm birth and low birthweight.

Tobacco pollutes the environment

  1. Governments and local authorities pay to clean up tobacco waste, not the tobacco companies themselves. Quit tobacco to protect the environment.
  2. Cigarette butts are among the most commonly discarded piece of waste globally and are the most frequent item of litter picked up on beaches and water edges worldwide.
  3. Hazardous substances have been identified in cigarette butts – including arsenic, lead, nicotine and formaldehyde. These substances are leached from discarded butts into aquatic environments and soil.
  4. Tobacco smoke can measurably contribute to air pollution levels in a city.
  5. Most cigarettes are lit using matches or gas-filled lighters. If, for example, one wooden match is used to light two cigarettes, the six trillion cigarettes smoked globally each year would require the destruction of about nine million trees to produce three trillion matches.
  6. E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products may contain batteries that require special disposal as well as chemicals, packaging and other non-biodegradable materials.
  7. Currently, the majority of plastic e-cigarette liquid cartridges are not reusable or recyclable – transnational companies tend to sell disposable ones, presumably to boost sales via repeat customers.

tobacco control cigarette tips

  1. Tobacco production emissions are estimated to equate 3 million transatlantic flights.
  2. Tobacco smoke contains three kinds of greenhouse gases: carbon dioxide, methane and nitrous oxides and pollutes indoor and outdoor environments.
  3. Worldwide, approximately 200 000 hectares are for tobacco agriculture and curing each year.
  4. Deforestation for tobacco growing has many serious environmental consequences – including loss of biodiversity, soil erosion and degradation, water pollution and increases in atmospheric carbon dioxide.
  5. Tobacco growing usually involves substantial use of chemicals – including pesticides, fertilizers and growth regulators. These chemicals may affect drinking water sources as a result of run-off from tobacco growing areas.
  6. For every 300 cigarettes produced (roughly 1.5 cartons), one tree is required to cure the tobacco leaf alone.
  7. With 6 trillion cigarettes manufactured annually, about 300 billion packages (assuming 20 cigarettes per pack) are made for tobacco products. Assuming each empty pack weighs about six grams, this amounts to about 1 800 000 tonnes of packaging waste, composed of paper, ink, cellophane, foil and glue. The waste from cartons and boxes used for distribution and packing brings the total annual solid post-consumption waste to at least 2 000 000 tonnes.
  8. Tobacco smoke leaves behind a toxic residue, known as thirdhand smoke, that sticks to surfaces (such as walls, floors, clothes, and furniture) and collects in house dust. This residue can persist for years without proper removal and exposure to it is harmful, especially for babies and children.- World Health Organization

Armed Robber Released From Chikurubi Maximum Prison

Notorious armed robber Luckmore Matambanadzo, who was serving a nine-year sentence for robbing a Harare couple of an Isuzu KB250 vehicle at gunpoint in 2008, has been released from prison.

Matambanadzo, who was jailed in 2013 and lost an appeal against conviction and sentence at the High Court in 2014, was released two weeks ago.

Matambanadzo has a pending case as he is alleged to have been among six prisoners, including jailed cleric Robert Martin Gumbura, facing attempted prison break charges.

Their review of their application for discharge over prison break charges at Chikurubi Maximum Security Prison in 2015 is pending.

Matambanadzo, who allegedly masterminded a series of high profile armed robberies while also operating with jailed serial robbery suspect — Musa Taj Abdul — was released together with his accomplice Thomas Chacha.

Prison and police sources yesterday confirmed Matambanadzo and Chacha’s release from prison.

A Harare Regional Court convicted Matambanadzo in 2008 of robbing a city couple of an Isuzu KB250 vehicle at gunpoint.

The vehicle was recovered at a roadblock in Chiredzi where Matambanadzo had sent twins — Elphanet and John Shana — to deliver it to a buyer.

He was sentenced to 12 years in prison and three years were conditionally set aside, but was released on bail pending appeal.

Matambanadzo then appealed at the High Court against conviction and sentence, but the Appeal Court in 2014 upheld the magistrate’s decision.

The then Judge President George Chiweshe ruled that the magistrate properly convicted and sentenced Matambanadzo and that there was no misdirection on his part. -Herald

At 79 yrs Zuma Shouldn’t Be in Jail Cause He Doesn’t Understand the SA Legal System, Never

Jacob Zuma

By Jacob Kudzayi Mutisi |  An average African ends up in a legal crisis and worse off in prison not because they do not understand the law or their legal right. The reason why Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma is in jail is because he has limited legal education and did not understand the repercussions of what he was doing. In short he never got the chance to get educated because of the black oppression under the apartheid regime that was ruling South Africa. There is an important legal principle that says “ignorance of the law is no excuse.” You cannot defend your actions by arguing you did not know they were illegal, even if you honestly did not realize you were breaking the law. History will tell you that Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma is one of the few Africans who enter politics without a law background and the current ANC leadership should have and should do everything to protect the uneducated cadets and leaders who believe they are doing the right thing to protect their identity; credentials and what they believe is right and doing the right thing for the nation.

Under the national legal system, South Africans are expected to know what the law says, but this does not mean that they all have to be legal experts. It is not realistic for everyone to memorize all the laws! Not even lawyers know all this information, worse off for a leader who does not have a supporting structure to protect himself and his family.

The rule “ignorance of the law is no excuse” really means that people cannot defend their actions by claiming that Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma did not know the law and neither did he have the framework as a liberation freedom fighter to protect himself and his political structure. However, even when people have good intentions, they sometimes break the law because they do not realize they are doing something illegal. This happens because the South African legal system is complicated. When people have good intentions, judges can sometimes completely not understand.

The sad bit is Judges are less understanding when the actions involve a certain high profile individuals and they want to set an example and in this case it is none other than the former President of South Africa Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma, he cannot be an example, not in a million years, NEVER, we can never punish an innocent soul when we have apartheid leaders who killed, mummed and are still living comfortably in South Africa. This is completely unacceptable not in these modern times.

Let us Protect our leaders and the legacy of the Freedom Fighters Party, the ANC party and never have a leader convicted because they do not understand the Laws of the land. Zuma should be a FREE man because he is ignorant and should not be JAIL because he was a FOOL to the LAW.

Long Live Jacob Gedleyihlekisa Zuma we are there for you.

Prophet Loses Wife To Neighbour

A JILTED Mutare man whose wife was snatched by a neighbour and co-worker this week suffered another blow after he lost custody of his three-year-old child.

Ngonidzashe Pasinzo recently approached Mutare Civil Court applying for custody of the child after his marriage to Kudzai Mandigo irretrievably broke down.

The estranged couple counter accused each other of neglecting the boy when they appeared before Mutare magistrate, Ms Purity Gumbo.

“I don’t want him to have custody of the child as he is irresponsible. I left him because he was not buying clothes for our child. He can’t stay with the child because he is still too young. He is also jealous since I moved out to stay with someone he knows,” said Mandigo.

In response, Pasinzo said: “I don’t have any problem if she decides to stay with another man, but my child is being abused by these two. I can’t have peace in my heart knowing that my child is being abused by another man,” he told the court.

The court ruled that the child should be in Mandigo’s custody.

Pasinzo, a self-proclaimed prophet, could not hide his anguish as he chronicled how he lost his wife to a neighbour only identified as Kureya.

He said he thought Mandigo and Kureya were friends before he later realised that the two had actually moved in together eight months ago. In an interview with The Weekender, Pasinzo said: ”About eight months ago I left home for work, only to find Mandigo gone upon my return. She left with all her belongings.

“I also realised that the man who had been staying next door (Kureya) had left as well. Kureya came back the following day and told me that he had moved to his new residential stand at Kentucky Farm.

“I never suspected that he had left with my wife. However, word started doing rounds that the two had moved in together. I carried out my own investigations and confirmed that Mandigo had eloped with Kureya,” said Pasinzo.- Manica Post

Katsande Speaks On Chiefs Epic Clash With Egyptian Giants Al Ahly

Willard Katsande believes Kaizer Chiefs has a chance to come out with a positive result against Al Ahly in the CAF Champions League final on July 17.

Chiefs will meet Ahly at Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca‚ Morocco. This will be their first Champions League final in history.

The Zimbabwean midfielder said the Amakhosi side will accept the underdog tag but will not give too much respect to the Egyptians.

“My view about Ahly is that they are a good team with a rich history in African football‚” Katsande said, as quoted by TimesLive.

“What we are going to do is give them the respect they deserve‚ but when it comes to match day it’s a matter of who wants it more.

“So we are going there with our tag as underdogs. But we are just going to go there and showcase our talent.

“And they know that we are hungry to achieve. We didn’t come this far by mistake or fluke – we are here because we deserve to be here.

“Yes‚ obviously they will come with complacency and try to undervalue us‚ but at the end of the day, it’s not about history‚ it’s about the 90 minutes.

“We’ve seen in the Euros how football is changing. It’s not about big teams. It’s about who wants it more for that particular day.

What Are Seizures?

MIGRAINE
What You Need to Know About Migraine and Seizures
Sometimes migraine and seizure occur in the same person, but sometimes it’s just difficult to tell which a person is experiencing.

When migraine symptoms don’t respond to migraine therapies, it may worth considering whether the person is really having seizures.Adobe Stock
Migraine attacks and seizures are both events related to the brain, but exactly how the two are related to each other is something that experts are still trying to unravel.

“There times when a patient experiences an event, and it’s not immediately apparent if they’ve had a seizure or a migraine,” says Lauren Doyle Strauss, DO, a headache specialist and an assistant professor at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

“That’s because there can be an overlap in some of the ways that people describe both of those problems,” Dr. Strauss explains.

There is evidence that the two disorders are associated with each other: The prevalence of migraine in children with epilepsy — which causes seizures — is estimated at 8 to 24 percent, which is approximately double the risk found in the general population, according to a paper published in the Journal of Headache and Pain.

What Is Migralepsy?
Migralepsy is an older term that has been used to describe when a person has both migraine and epilepsy, says Strauss. The term was first used in a paper published in 1960 to describe a condition in which “ophthalmic migraine with perhaps nausea and vomiting was followed by symptoms characteristic of epilepsy,” according to a paper published in the Journal of Headache Pain.

This type of seizure, which is triggered by a migraine attack with aura, is considered a rare but real complication of migraine, according to the International Headache Society (ICHD-3).

A Seizure Can Be Part of Epilepsy or Migraine
To better understand the connection between migraine and seizures, it’s helpful to understand what a seizure is, says Strauss. “You could describe it as a sudden surge of electrical activity in the brain,” she says.

Johns Hopkins Medicine defines a seizure as “a burst of uncontrolled electrical activity between brain cells (also called neurons or nerve cells) that causes temporary abnormalities in muscle tone or movements (stiffness, twitching, or limpness), behaviors, sensations, or states of awareness.”

People are diagnosed with epilepsy after they have had two or more unprovoked seizures, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Seizures Are Different Depending on Where They Occur in the Brain
There are two categories of seizures: generalized seizures, which affect both sides of the brain, and focal seizures (also called partial seizures), which take place is just one part of the brain, according to the CDC.

Depending on which part of the brain is affected, that’s the area that will manifest symptoms, explains Strauss.

“For example, if the area of the brain that controls your language is affected, then that makes sense that your language may not be normal during the seizure. It could cause you to stutter or have trouble with your words,” she says. Similarly, if someone had a seizure in the area of the brain that controls your vision, that may correlate with visual symptoms, says Strauss.

Just because the seizure begins in one part of the brain doesn’t mean it stays there. “A seizure can start in one area of the brain and can quickly spread to other areas or across the entire brain,” she says.

People can experience a seizure in a lot of different ways, says Strauss. “You can have a change in your awareness; others may notice that you’re staring. You may have amnesia, where you forget or are unaware there’s been a change in your surroundings, or you don’t even know that a seizure happened,” she says.

“Your whole body can shake — that’s called a grand mal seizure, and it’s often what people think about when they when they think of seizure. You can also have shaking in one arm or just one leg,” says Strauss.

Can a Migraine Attack Cause Someone to Have a Seizure?

“We don’t fully understand what provokes a migraine and what provokes a seizure; it could be possible that something provokes both,” says Strauss.

Headaches can occur on their own and be unrelated to seizures, or a headache can be a symptom that happens before, during, or after a seizure, says Strauss. “We use the terms ‘preictal,’ which is before the seizure, ‘ictal,’ which is during the seizure, and ‘postictal,’ which is after the seizure,” she says.

Preictal and ictal headaches are relatively rare and usually don’t last long, according to the Epilepsy Foundation. Headaches that occur after a seizure are more common. A survey of 372 patients attending an epilepsy clinic found that 45 percent of them had experienced a postictal headache, and more than 1 in 5 always had one.

Is It a Migraine Attack or a Seizure?
“If a person is having migraine symptoms that aren’t responding to migraine therapies, and they have neurologic symptoms associated with the headaches, it’s reasonable to take a step back and say, ‘Are we sure these are migraines?’” says Strauss.

If you have a grand mal seizure, it’s usually clear that it’s a seizure, she says. “However, with focal seizures or partial seizures or complex partial seizures, these more subtle seizures where it’s only affecting one part of the brain, it can be difficult to always know…

Tinashe Sambiri|MDC Alliance leader President Nelson Chamisa has said youths are expected to play a pivotal role in spearheading social, political and economic development in Africa.

President Chamisa made the remarks at the 11th Youth Career Day in Nigeria on Saturday.

According to President Chamisa, Africa is a great continent whose values, beliefs and ideologies transcend geographical boundaries.

‘We are part of the great continent called Africa. Our values and beliefs go beyond geographical boundaries.

Africa is unique because we all share common values and beliefs. What we need is unity of purpose as we seek to achieve our social, political and economic goals,” said President Chamisa.

Speaking on the political situation in Zimbabwe, President Chamisa said:

“We are the alternative not the opposition.I see myself as part of the alternative. In actual fact we are key stakeholders in national processes- contrary to what the current leader(Mnangagwa) thinks.

We all know what happened in 2018…

We won the election but they refused to cede power. They used the courts to subvert the will of the people.”

“Young people have the potential to lead the continent to prosperity,” added President Chamisa.

Zanu PF Embarks On Cell Verification Program

The party revealed this on its twitter handle and said:

ED “Ignores” Mwonzora

Douglas Mwonzora

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa is yet to respond to MDC-T leader Douglas Mwonzora’s proposals for dialogue, a month after the opposition leader said he was given assurance that his request would be prioritised.

Mwonzora met Mnangagwa at State House on June 11 where he submitted a four-page document to the Zanu-PF leader and one of the alleged proposals was to postpone by-elections.

The MDC-T leader claimed the president had promised to respond within two weeks, but his spokesperson Lloyd Damba yesterday said there had been no response.

“No, not yet, we are still waiting for the responses,” Damba said.

“We are very patient on that.”

The developments come at a time when Zanu-PF is already preparing for elections in what could be an indication that Mwonzora’s proposals were not being taken seriously.

According to the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission, about 26 seats were left vacant after the MDC-T recalled MDC Alliance legislators.

Some seats also fell vacant following deaths of its representatives.

On July 2, Zanu-PF invited its members intending to contest in by-elections to submit their curricula vitae.

Last year, the government, through Vice-President and Health minister Constantino Chiwenga, indefinitely suspended by-elections in the wake of the Covid-19 outbreak, a position that angered the opposition MDC Alliance and other stakeholders, who felt it was undemocratic and unconstitutional.

13yr Old Boy Stabs Stepdad For Dumping Mom

By A Correspondent- A Kwekwe man was seriously injured when his 13-year-old stepson stabbed him in the chest for ending his relationship with the boy’s mother.

Absolom Muzanharo (45) was rushed to Gweru Provincial Hospital with the knife still stuck in his chest last week.

Confirming the incident on Saturday, Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko said:

Circumstances are that the complainant Absolom Muzanharo (45) arrived home from work and demanded his belongings from his wife Flora Nkomo (46) saying he was no longer interested in their relationship.

A misunderstanding arose and Muzanharo struck Nkomo with a stone once on the chest and she ran out leaving the former with his stepson in the house.

Insp Mahoko said Muzanharo tried to strike his stepson with a stick and the boy drew a knife and stabbed him once in the chest.

Muzanharo fell down with the knife stuck on his chest before Nkomo reported the matter to the police.

Said Insp Mahoko:

The scene was attended and the suspect was arrested. Muzanharo was ferried to Kwekwe General Hospital and later transferred to Gweru Provincial Hospital for further management.

We appeal to members of the public to solve disputes amicably and avoid the use of violence. Common sense should always prevail in determining ways of handling.

ANC Calls For Stability In Kwazulu-Natal

ANC CALLS FOR CALM AND STABILITY IN KWAZULU-NATAL

The African National Congress (ANC) is concerned by the ongoing violence that is gripping some parts of KwaZulu-Natal (KZN). The destruction of property and infrastructure and looting accompany these violent protests must be condemned in the strongest possible terms.
The ANC recognises and respects the rights of every South African to protest peacefully and unarmed and freely to express their views on any matter of concern. However, in exercising their constitutional rights, citizens must respect the rights of others and refrain from breaking the law or using violence. In a constitutional democracy, any matters of concern must be expressed through peaceful and legitimate channels.
We are concerned that the destruction of property and impeding the functioning of the economy will undermine efforts to create jobs and improve the lives of citizens.

The ANC has instructed the Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) of KwaZulu-Natal and NEC (National Executive Committee) deployees to KZN, to intervene immediately and engage our structures and all relevant stakeholders. Bringing peace and stability to affected areas is a priority for the ANC and the democratic movement.

The ANC urges law-enforcement agencies to act firmly and expeditiously, within the law. against any form of lawlessness, public violence, damage to property and disruption of economic activity and service delivery.

We wish to commend the police for doing their best to deal with an extremely difficult and volatile situation

Senior Lawyer Takes Gospel Music Beyond Constitutional Court.

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | 14 years ago four beautiful girls were beginning their phenomenal assault on the Christian music industry breaking all odds to shoot to the gospel world. Now they are behind the unprecedented gospel and pop chart success for the hit, Masaisai.

The band

Breeze is a man acapella comprised of Young people sharing the word with other young people in their own language. The music which is blast from the past is put in vernacular making the listeners want to jump and dance like David while keeping the dignity expected of gospel music. BREEZE is based on Harare and is ladies only group.

The angelic voices have pierced through the hearts and melted away may seasoned singers to grace the top five in the local hit.
It consists of four members who are motivated by God himself. Breeze has released few albums so far and a number of singles. These include ‘Hosanna’ (Acapella) in 2014, ‘A Breeze Story’ launched in 2018, Wanyamalala in 2020, Masaisai 2021. Masaisai has taken the radio gospel chat by a storm. Breeze does not only have good singers, it boasts of national beauty and the singing matches the beauty of the four singers. The members of Breeze are; Melody Mandisodza Muvuti, Sharon Govha, Bekezela Moyo and Nyaradzo Maphosa.
The four ladies are bound together by singing.

Melody Mandisodza Muvuti is a Music Teacher, this is easily seen by the professionalism she has hammered in the Breeze breezing music. Ironically her name points to the angelic rhythm beautified by the art and wisdom of Melody. Melody is again a Beautician. Her hand is seen in the sparkling beauty engraved in the most beautiful group member Nyaradzo Maphosa. Besides teaching music Melody mai Mhofu is an IT Technician who spends her spare time playing chess, basketball, hockey swimming. Breeze has travelled place and this fits very well with Melody who loves travelling.

Unlike cooks who do not like to eat what they have cooked Nyaradzo loves reading what she has written and many more written articles.
The group is blessed with another member Bekezela Moyo.

Becky as her friends call her is a who loves reading and travelling.
The group will not be complete without mentioning the laughing machine Who is a musician per excellency who loves travelling. She normally demands to travelling in a vehicle fired with a television as she loves watching television. She is Sharon Govha.
BREEZE is spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ in its generation, the message of preparedness for His kingdom, positive social comment, keeping hope in Him secure through the varied styles of songs.

The name ‘BREEZE’ is inspired by the entry of God’s Spirit in a tabernacle made by man. His spirit adds rejuvenation and sanctity to the tabernacle in a way best described as a refreshing breeze entering a tired, beaten life.”Breeze has promised fireworks and their singing has already started to melt the hearts of many.

The best is what they provide and they have steadily claimed the top post on the musical gospel chat. When it comes to singing like always those listening should expect a good show from Nyarie and the entire members of the group.

“It is also highly likely that Masaisai will join the ranks during their performance and still able to provide afternoons of mixing and mingling with people and hosting various sessions of preaching and singing.
Nyaradzo Maphosa said.

“We are geared up and look forward to another great showing we urge people to look out early as we have a number albums we hope to produce.

A music teacher and a operatic performer, guided by a lawyer gives the group direction at any speed as they have nurse aid should they pick injuries along the way. To round out the group They circulat fliers to young people in musical circles. “At the first hearing of Masaisai you will automatically know that thy have something special.”

Despite the threat of social decay and ministering to a society being “at risk, with backgrounds steeped in drugs and violence, and having to adhere to strict no drugs, no profanity, high moral standards rules within the choir, Masaisai quickly became immensely popular in Zimbabwe.

Breeze did not allow their ascendancy to gospel stardom to distance them from their roots and retained a deep friendship with the church. Breeze enjoys hosting cosy recitals. Over the years Breeze has had a myriad of performances; locally in all the cities and some areas in the country side; regionally in South Africa & internationally in the UK.
Just because Masaisai is selling like crazy doesn’t mean the group is straying from its gospel roots. Hey they are appealing to all ages and serve as a conduit to heaven.
Breeze is equally colourful in its language, their album has “everything from traditional praise worship to Sabbath morning foot stomp and Friday night bumpin’.” Having written the majority of the songs for the album and having played key live concerts Breeze is wildly enthusiastic about the singing. “This is an opportunity to express the side of us we don’t get to express with the Family.” Commented the beauty queen Nyarie. Breeze has managed to give our talented girls a platform to showcase their talents. It’s all part a new concept – a kind of crusade.

And more than fourteen years after forming, Breeze are still spreading their music joyously, in concert on zoom and online venues across the world. Breeze which is “Youth-orientated and energetic, it projected that you can have fun being Christian.”commented pastor Hewet from Corby. “God always does his thing in his own time. He’s the timekeeper,” he said. “When he decides to bless you, he will.”

Look for Breeze and be blessed. A new kid making waves.

Pregnant Women Raped Inside Hospital

The state of rape cases in the country took a peak when two pregnant women were raped at Maphisa District Hospital in Matobo District, Matabeleland South Province.

The state media described the suspects as “unknown criminals” who broke into the maternity waiting home through the window in the early hours of Wednesday last week.

Maphisa District Hospital

A 2018 Zimbabwe Gender Commission report says 22 women are raped daily in the country.

“Twenty two women are raped daily in Zimbabwe, one woman is abused every 75 minutes and an average of 646 women are being sexually-abused monthly and one in three girls is raped or sexually assaulted before they reach the age of 18,” chairperson, Margaret Sangarwe,  said during an awareness campaign ahead of the commemoration of this year’s 16 days of activism against gender violence.

Crime data from the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat), compiled from police records, show a 74% jump in rape cases between 2010 and 2018.

In 2010, 4,450 rape cases were recorded. Last year, there were 7,738 recorded rape cases.

The 2018 figure translates to an average 21.2 rape cases per day.

The first two months of 2019 recorded 636 rape cases in January and 625 in February.

Since 2010, the highest number of rapes was reported in 2016, when 8069 cases were recorded, giving a daily average of 22.1

Used the window to sneak into the maternity.

The suspects allegedly used the window to sneak into the maternity home where three pregnant women were sleeping.

The victims had only locked the doors and left the windows open. The other woman who was in the room managed to escape.

Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thabani Mkhwananzi confirmed the incident. He said investigations were still underway.

“I can confirm that we recorded a rape case which occurred in Maphisa District Hospital where rapists unlawfully entered a room where three pregnant women who were waiting for their delivery day were sleeping and raped two women and the other one managed to escape. We have not yet made an arrest connected to that case and investigations are still underway,” he said.

Women who are at least eight months pregnant in rural areas move into waiting homes in hospitals as they await delivery. This is meant to ensure timely medical care as transportion might be an issue on the day of delivery from some remote areas.

Matabeleland South Provincial Medical Director Dr Rudo Chikodzore, without giving figures, said cases of women being raped at provincial hospital maternity homes have been escalating during the past few months with cases of Gender Based Violence (GBV) also escalating in growth points.

“The raping of women has been an issue at the growth point and around the district so there has been a multi-sectoral response to GBV and sexual assault involving the police and all stakeholders in the Rural District Council.

Police are doing patrols around the growth point. We have also educated the community to avoid travelling at night to avoid being mugged or raped,” she said.

Dr Chikodzore said they were planning on repairing vandalised perimeter fences and put on burglar bars on windows and screen doors to tighten security at the hospital.

“We have intensified patrols by our guards and we plan to repair the vandalised perimeter fence, erect burglar bars, and screen doors in all departments. The ministry has also installed a huge solar plant so we need to erect street lights within the institution as well,” she said.

Maphisa Rural District Council (RDC) chief executive officer Mr Elvis Sibanda said they have contacted the Ministry of Health and Child Care and police to tighten security at hospitals. -Sunday News

Robbers Attempt Suicide 4 Times

After more than an hour of fending off police gun fire and unsuccessfully trying to commit suicide four times, suspected armed robber Godfrey Josi (41) and his wife Juliet Gavaza (36) succumbed to the heat and were arrested at their Damofalls home last weekend.

In classic Bonnie and Clyde style, the couple committed a spate of robberies since 2017. A crack-team comprising over 30 law enforcement agents led by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) had to break into the house and shoot Josi in the leg to subdue him.

With his house surrounded by the gun-totting crack-team, Josi unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide four times as the pistol he wanted to use to shoot himself in the head failed to discharge, a relative who was in the house when the shooting occurred, told The Sunday Mail.

Josi along with his wife and five other gang members have since appeared in court charged with more than 25 counts of armed robbery, kidnapping and unlawful possession of firearms.

The gang allegedly amassed over US$300 000 from their four-year reign of terror with Josi and Gavaza understood to have acquired a number ofproperties worth about US$75 000 using their share of the proceeds.

The couple apparently purchased a four-roomed house in Budiriro 4 Extension in Harare for US$20 000, a seven-roomed house in Zengeza 5 Chitungwiza valued at US$36 000, residential stand in Murehwa for US$2 600 and a 2,5-hectare plot at Kent Farm in Mhondoro.

They reportedly bought an Isuzu KB300 truck, a Mercedes Benz, two Honda CRVs and 10 cattle in Headlands.

Josi’s uncle who says he only discovered his nephew’s criminal side last week, witnessed it all happen, as he was in the house when police swooped on the notorious suspect.

He said Josi and Gavaza first met in Headlands’ Chiendambuya area before moving to Murehwa after getting married.

“Back then they were struggling even to buy food and I was giving them handouts time and again,” he said.

“They later moved to Glen Norah in Harare where I was also staying at that time and I believe that is when they met people who recruited them into crime.”

After a rapid change in fortunes for Josi and Gavaza, the uncle said he got suspicious about their source of wealth, but he had no evidence to confront his nephew.

“One day I asked about his nature of business and he said he was now a car-dealer who owns many car sales,” he said. “Their life was changing rapidly and my request to visit some of the car sales was brushed aside.”

On the night of the raid, Josi’s uncle says he had just come from his rural home in Chiendambuya where he is now based.

He said when he arrived there was nothing suspicious as the couple went about their errands normally. “When I arrived Josi was not at home and his wife was just about to leave for Mazowe for a church service,” said the uncle.

“When the couple returned we enjoyed a bottle of whisky together with two other relatives and retired to bed.

“At around midnight we heard gunshots around the house and when I went to take a look I realised that the house was surround by the police.”

The police ordered Josi to surrender and it is understood he then told his uncle that all was not well.“I saw him coming out from his room holding a pistol saying ‘zvadhakwa’ (it is falling apart).

“He pointed a pistol to his head and tried to shoot himself. He tried to shoot himself at least four times, but the gun failed to fire. I don’t know if it was loaded or if he was failing to operate it.”

After realising that the police had broken into the house, Josi later dropped the gun and surrendered.

The uncle said he strongly suspected that Josi used black magic in his criminal operations, as some mysterious bits and pieces were discovered in his bedroom.

“The police later went away with Josi that night. Two police officers came back the following day with Josi and his accomplices. They called Juliet to come and produce the materials used by her husband and ordered him to burn them. The materials were just the kind that is associated with black magic. Juliet was also arrested and taken into police custody.”

One of Josi’s neighbours Ms Rutendo Kafesu said Josi and Gavaza kept to themselves and rarely entertained neighbours.

“We saw them going out and coming in, but we just thought they were living their own life,” she said.

“They were staying as a family, but it was their young daughter who we knew more as she used to play with our children. They were driving different kinds of vehicles and it was evident that they were wealthy.”

Ms Kafesu said on the night that Josi was arrested, the community thought there was a robbery in progress due to the gunshots.

“We later learnt from a community Whatsapp Group that the police had come to arrest Josi for robbery.”

Another neighbour Georgina Mliolo said she had always suspected Josi and Gavaza’s wealthy lifestyle was sponsored by crime.

“I suspected that they were dealing in drugs or something illegal because they drove new and expensive cars,” she said.

“On the night of the raid the scuffle lasted almost two hours with repeated gunshots.”

A vendor who operated near Josi’s house Ms Rosemary Nhavira said she had assisted the couple to get the rented house that they lived in.

“I was the one who accompanied them to the house, which they were now staying in. When their landlord agreed for them to move in, they paid U$600 cash for the full house, but strangely, they did not occupy it for two months. The landlord later came to me and said the couple was paying the rent without a problem, but was concerned that they seemed to lack any track record. I didn’t really know them even though I assisted them.”

Josi revealed to the police that his accomplices were Zvidozvashe Zuda, Peter Mushipe and Valentine Mutasa (all now in custody), Decide Rice of Devon Farm in Kadoma (who is still on the run) and the now deceased Benjamin Craig Musasa and Richard Mutanga.

Robbery cases are on the rise and President Mnangagwa recently raised concern over the safety of the public, warning robbers and other criminals that their days were numbered. – Sunday Mail

MDC Alliance Condemns Violence Against Civilians In Eswatini

Tinashe Sambiri|The MDC Alliance Namibia has pointed out that democratic elections are unavoidable in Swaziland as international organizations pile pressure on King Mswati 3 to respect fundamental human rights.

According to the MDC Alliance Namibia, the establishment of modalities for a new democratic dispensation is the only way forward in Eswatini.

Mdc Alliance Namibia resonates with the Five point plan submitted before the SADC Troika put together by the civil rights movements and political party coalition in Eswatini.

According to reports from our fellow human rights defenders on the ground, progressive political parties and civic society have religiously adopted a common ground regarding the process of intervention by the Troika.

The resolution to maintain the five point plan as the guiding principle of the expected political engagement with the oppressive monarchy was unanimously agreed.

As a district that subscribes to constitutional democracy, we are wholeheartedly in solidarity with change seekers in Swaziland who stand firm in resisting the dictatorship of the monocratic regime.

It is imperative to clarify that the horrible experiences of the Swazi people is a replica of what is happening in the motherland where opposition activists, journalists and human rights defenders are butchered with impunity by ovérambitious state security agents.

Mdc Alliance Namibia declares its clear sisterhood and brotherhood with the fellow social democrats in Eswatini who lost more than 50 activists with thousands incuring injuries perpetrated by King Mswati 111 for demanding Constitutional Democracy.

We would like to seriously encourage all agents of pro-poor and social liberation policies across the globe to erect a wider coalition of progressive Africans – a people-to-people solidarity congesting trade unions , professional associations (lawyers, doctors, teachers, journalists, nurses, youths ,women organisations, political parties only to mention a few in both Eswatini and the neighborhood.

Moreover, social democrats in Namibia advocate for the absolute reversal of the April 12 1973 undemocratic act which saw the prohibition of political parties by the Swazi monarchy, backed by the satanic and repressive apartheid regime in South Africa.

As social transformers,we remember this significant date by urging a rejuvenated focus on the fundamental role of the youths in the democratic struggle to end dictatorship in Swaziland.

Mdc Alliance Namibia acknowledges the revolutionary appetite to achieve socio-economic transformation in Eswatini.

It is compulsory to laud the youths in Swaziland who are instrumental in confronting the sadist monarchy for progressive change. We absolutely need such reinvigoration and widening of youth activism across Africa so that citizens can enjoy their universal fundamental basic human rights.

What is quite exciting is that there are a lot identical qualities of dictatorship in both Eswatini and Zimbabwe. We saw Mr Mnangagwa trying in vain to establish a One-party state through its surrogate (MdcT) led a captured moron, Douglas Togarasei Mwonzora, a move that suffered a political stillbirth.

We aim to work with all progressive Pan-Africans to bring Constitutional Democracy in southern Africa and the continent in toto.

Our priority is to remain focused on reigniting the exhibited youth activism. Mdc Alliance Namibia is cognisant of the fact that no one else can vote or act in favour of the young people except young people hence the dire need to utilise the revolutionary potential of the youth in embracing dangerous freedom against peaceful slavery under an autocratic Zanupf-minded regime.

Furthermore, Mdc Alliance Namibia is in support of the guiding principles of engagement in Eswatini and these are:1)An all-inclusive mediated political dialogue ;2)Total unbanning of political parties;3)A transitional Executive Authority;4)A new democratic constitution;and 5)A multiparty democratic dispensation. As a social democratic party, we are obliged to offer solidarity to like-minded individuals and groups across the globe since it is a core value in Social Democracy. We stay ever ready to fight together with fellow Africans to achieve a true democratic establishment.

Mdc Alliance Namibia is inspired by Martin Luther who postulates that “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”, hence the clarion call for solidarity becomes key regardless of one’s geographical location.

Moreso, in the principal steps towards a new government in Swaziland, Mdc Alliance Namibia supports the unconditional return of all political refugees and asylum seekers from exile, like our remote controlled securocrats in the Fatherland, social democrats in Eswatini urged the police , army and all security forces to halt operating as instruments of the monarchy. We support the immediate dissolution of the incumbent oppressive monarchy and suspension of legislature to end the King’s unfettered powers. It is clear that the regime should be compelled to release all political prisoners and detainees since it is unconstitutional to deny citizens their personal freedoms to differ with their oppressors.

In a nutshell, the declaration of free, fair and credible elections for the democratic republic is the only panacea to socio-economic transfiguration. We urge all stakeholders to convene a conference for Democracy to put in place an interim government that will see democratic elections in Eswatini.

Mdc Alliance Namibia resonates with the creation of an Emergency Economic Plan to address the immediate needs of the Swazi people who are languishing in abject poverty when the King and his 16 wives are busy looting national resources at the expense of the downtrodden masses.

Our message to the King is that he must stop reading Mr Mnangagwa’s wayward literature of corruption ,looting, state-sponsored deaths, arbitrary arrests and the deliberate closure of the internet to conceal his heinous acts or crimes against humanity.

The world has wide open ears to hear and eyes to witness the pathetic cries of Constitutional Democrats in Eswatini.

He must be held accountable for the mass killings of innocent citizens who are just demanding justice and a fair share of the national cake. Aluta continua!

We are urging people-to-people solidarity where we commit ourselves as Pan Africans to fight against senseless banning of political parties and closure of democratic space in our respective countries.

Warriors In Second Consecutive Draw At COSAFA Tournament

Zimbabwe came from behind and forced a 2-2 draw against Malawi in the second Group B game of the COSAFA Cup.

The Flames dominated the pace in the early moments of the game but could not create meaningful chances.

The Warriors, on the other end, relied much on the left flank with Qadr Amini making most of the runs along the touchline. Blessing Sarupinda and Ovidy Karuru also initiated some good attacks but all of their efforts in the first half failed to reach the target.

A quick breakaway in the 27th minute ended with Khuda Myaba tapping in past Washington Arubi and sent Malawi into the lead.

The Warriors’ response never showed immediate intention of coming back into the game and went to the break trailing.

They suffered another blow early in the second half after Kuwali made a long run before burying his shot into the back of the net to double the lead on minute 50.

However, tables soon turned a few moments later with Blessing Sarupinda pulling one back to launch the come back. He netted from a rebound on the hour mark, mopping in a goalkeeper’s spill following a double save which denied Karuru and Farau Matare.

Patrick Musaka equalled terms on the 77th minute after captain Karuru set him up from a free kick just outside the box.

The skipper could have added another one in his name but his rising effort from a short range hit the bar towards the full-time.

The result puts Zimbabwe on second position of Group B with two points after Matchday 2.- Soccer24 Zimbabwe

About Seizures And Headaches

MIGRAINE
What You Need to Know About Migraine and Seizures
Sometimes migraine and seizure occur in the same person, but sometimes it’s just difficult to tell which a person is experiencing.

Becky Upham
By Becky Upham
Medically Reviewed by Jason Paul Chua, MD, PhD

Chimonyo Fought For Peace During And After Liberation War – Mavaza

Edzai Chakanyuka

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | Zimbabwe once again is in mourning after the death of two national heroes. Nobody can never get used to death. Death is painful anytime. The National Hero Edzai Absolom Chanyuka Chimonyo was a Zimbabwean military general and commander of the Zimbabwe National Army. He assumed his position on the 18th of December 2017 when he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-General by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. He took over from General Philip Valerio Sibanda, who was promoted to be the Commander of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces. Before he was appointed as the Commander of the ZNA, Chimonyo was on secondment to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Tanzania.

Chimonyo participated in the liberation struggle.

In March 2018, at a ceremony held at One Commando, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces commander General Philip Valerio Sibanda, officially handed over command of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) to Commander Lieutenant-General Edzayi Chimonyo. Vice President, Retired General Constantino Chiwenga witnessed the ceremony and indicated : I, therefore, call upon you to maintain the same vigour, dedication and allegiance in your new assignment as Commander ZDF. To the incoming Commander ZNA, your promotion and appointment was based on distinction and merit as you have shown great visionary leadership as a distinguished liberation fighter, decorated military commander and shrewd ambassador. As you assume a higher and more challenging assignment, I have no doubt that you take a leading role in further developing the ZNA into a reputable, competent, professional and highly disciplined force.

In December 2020 it was reported that Chimonyo had been airlifted to India. He was reportedly suffering from lung complications. He has been not hundred percent well since that time.
Since the death of General Chimonyo we have seen a lot of irresponsible reporting by several online and opposition papers. Many people have reported that General Chimonyo was supposed to be in Prison for the role he played during the Zimbabwean Civil war which has become to be known as Gukurahundi.
The Gukurahundi was a war between the armed ZIPRA renegades who became to be known as dissidents and the Zimbabwean National Army from early 1983 to late 1987. It derives from a Shona language term which loosely translates to “the early rain which washes away the chaff before the spring rains. Gukurahundi was not the name given to the war but it was the name of the brigade which was sent to face the highly trained and heavily armed dissidents. Gukurahundi became Part of aftermath of the Rhodesian Bush War. This war started on the 3rd January 1983 and officially ended on the 22nd December 1987.

During the Rhodesian Bush War two rival nationalist parties, Robert Mugabe’s Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU) and Joshua Nkomo’s Zimbabwe African People’s Union (ZAPU), had emerged to challenge Rhodesia’s predominantly white government.ZANU initially defined Gukurahundi as an ideological strategy aimed at carrying the war into major settlements and individual homesteads. This 1978 was gore re Gukurahundi which was followed by gore Revanhu the Gore re MASIMBA Evanhu. Following Mugabe’s ascension to power, his government remained threatened by “dissidents” – disgruntled former guerrillas and supporters of ZAPU.

In early 1983, the North Korean-trained Fifth Brigade, an infantry brigade of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), began a crackdown on dissidents in Matabeleland North Province, a homeland of the Ndebele. Over the following two years, thousands of Ndebele were detained by government forces and either marched to re-education camps or summarily executed. Although there are different estimates, the consensus of the International Association of Genocide Scholars (IAGS) is that more than 20,000 people were killed. But to date there is no official figure as to how many people were killed.

Zimbabweans have been afraid to express their view and to tell the truth of what happened during this period. Many prefer to keep silent when this topic is introduced.
All what can be done has been done to try and rally the country to move on after the Dissident war. This idea of keeping silent has given one side an upper hand in telling their distorted side. The new generation has been fed with inaccurate views on Gukurahundi to an extend that once one gives his view which is different from the lies peddled in some regions of Zimbabwe he will be called a tribalist.

But each time a hero passes on and the hero is from the other side of the tribe people start writing insulting our heroes and invoking the pains of Gukurahundi. In diaspora Zimbabweans are divided on Shana and Ndebele and the narrative of Gukurahundi is out in a disposable lying smelling way.
Some shameless writers wrote:
“GUKURAHUNDI victims are concerned that perpetrators of the early 1980s human rights atrocities are dying without facing justice for the heinous crimes they committed during Zimbabwe’s darkest hour.”

This follows the death early Thursday morning of Zimbabwe National Army Commander (ZNA) Edzai Chimonyo after a long battle with cancer.

It’s not only Chimonyo whose death has been disrespected by these tribalist a who do not wish to move on, who are prepared to label every one who defends his heroes as a tribalist. There must be a change in our attitude towards our heroes.
The change will auto heal the wounds that have taken damage on defense.

It is maturity for all of us to let to move on.
Many of us have felt moments similar to our feet collapsing through the floor, when our stomachs decide to become gymnasts inside of us and where we suddenly are at a loss for words. None of these feelings can accurately describe how we feel knowing my childhood hero Edzai Chimonyo is no longer with us on Earth.

Some accused him for taking part during Gukurahundi and many do not want me to talk about this. Well I will talk about it. In 1983 I lost my uncle my mother’s brother sekuru farmer. He was a Zanla member having his lunch in Bulawayo Enthumbane camp. A group of ZIPRA forces were armed secretly and ambushed sekuru farmer and many ZANLA combatants who were on lunch. Hundreds were killed. Many people who spoke Shona were killed some had their youngest cut out for speaking Shona in Bulawayo. Shona teachers and agricultural officers were murdered for being Shona. Not only Shonas where killed. Ndebele were murdered by dissidents for siding with shonas. It was a dark moment for the nation. We can never glorify it and we must never always throw a victim card each time we get a chance. This was the time of madness and indeed Zimbabwe must move on. We can never grow if we stand on the sticky blood of Gukurahundi.
Edzai Chimonyo and all soldiers who fought the dissidents where not fighting for ZANU PF. They were fighting for Peace. There was supposed to be war foe Zimbabwe to gain peace.

Zimbabwe has psychological avenues to reconciliation between groups. It used the psychological changes in survivors, perpetrators, and passive bystanders in the course of the evolution of increasing violence and points to healing from the psychological wounds created as an essential component of reconciliation. Zimbabwe identified the role of understanding the roots of genocide, and of violence between groups in general, in contributing to healing, to the creation of a shared history in place of the usually contradictory histories held by groups that have been in violent conflict, and to reconciliation in general.

The role of processes that have been emphasized in the literature on reconciliation, such as truth, justice, and contact between groups are discussed at highest level. Bottom up approaches focusing on the population and top down approaches involving leaders and the media, and the importance of changes in institutions and structures to allow Zimbabwe to move on.

Political Psychology is an interdisciplinary aspect of life dedicated to the improvement of the interrelationships between psychological and political processes. We are aware that
National reconciliation is a vague and ‘messy’ process. In post-genocide nation it presents special difficulties that stem from the particular nature of the crisis and the popular participation that characterized the atrocities.

In the wake of violence on a societal scale, finding the right balance between justice and healing, retribution and forgiveness, tribunals and truth commissions, remembering and ‘moving on’ is a messy if not impossible goal.

No response can ever be adequate when your son has been killed or your uncle or brother when you have been dragged out of your home, interrogated, and raped in a wave of “ethnic cleansing”; or when your brother who struggled against a repressive government has disappeared and left only a secret police file, bearing no clue to his final resting place. If anything, this is all the more true in cases of genocide, where one has to factor in the “terrifying existential crisis faced by survivors of genocide”, their brush with the attempted annihilation of “not only your self, but also everything that constitutes your world, everything that makes your life worth living – your work, your family, your children – all that was on the point of being wiped out, too.

Reconciliation is a vague concept. In the wake of mass violence, there is no goal post past which ‘reconciliation’ has been achieved.

Indeed, silence makes us complicit bystanders to the perpetrators of yesterday. Secondly, inaction is unacceptable because it leaves grievances, fears of reprisals, and cultures of impunity to fester, encouraging cyclical outburst of violence by the perpetrators of tomorrow.

A key question facing democracies emerging from civil conflict is how best to deal with the painful legacy of past—and in many cases all too recent—violence, while at the same time maintaining the fragile social harmony that often characterizes post-conflict societies. Should priority be given to bringing the perpetrators of past human rights violations to justice, thereby combating the culture of impunity that has come to characterize many civil conflicts? Or is it more important to start by focusing on measures designed to ensure that peace and stability, and with them the prospects for a country’s longer-term recovery, are bolstered?

Dwelling on the past will never rebuild our nation.
Chimonyo fought for equality.

Equality!  You all pay lip service to it, but who really believes it?  Why should people who produce and contribute the most receive the same treatment as people who do little or nothing?  You love to denounce the hypocrites who say they believe in equality but fail to deliver it.  But I say to you: Those hypocrites keep you alive!  In a totally equal society, there’s no incentive to do anything but kvetch.  If you’re tired of hypocrisy, remember that there are two ways to end it.  You could strictly implement this monstrous ideal of equality.  Or you could proclaim the truth: Equality is a monstrous ideal!  Let’s raise the banner of meritocracy, and thank our greatest heroes instead of scapegoating them.

Freedom We all say we believe in it.  We know it’s the right path.  Yet we are a den of hypocrites!  We pay lip service to the ideal of freedom but when inequality glares at us from every corner, we avert our eyes.  Shame on us!  Shame!  I say unto you, we must practice what we preach.  Let us live the equality we love.  Put apathy aside, my brothers and sisters.  Stop these tribalist actions clothed as selling for Justice. Let us tear down all the inequalities we see.  Let us remove the wrong doctrines peddled by those selfish idiots hiding behind Gukurahundi. Then let us ferret out every lingering pocket of tribalism. We must tear power from the grasp of all the corrupt leaders who casually say they oppose tribalism but never do anything about it.  Together we can, should, will, and must build a totally equal society!

Zimbabwe does not need these inflammatory ideas.
We must move on and unite as we go.

We must not be divided by lies. The Gukurahundi error must be let to go. Do we have to stand up and fight for murders rapes abductions and killings perpetrated by Lobengula on our fore fathers. Shall we stand up and demand justice for our sister who were captured and taken to Bulawayo as wives. No we must not. We have to learn to be one as a nation we must hold hands and never look back. The ugly parts of our history must never make us.

Those who invite other on tribal grounds shame on you.

Zimbabwe must move on. We must unite as one.
Chimonyo represents peace loving people of Zimbabwe.

Those who seek to soil his legacy must be ashamed. Jonathan Moyo must tell us what role did his father play in killing shonas in his area. Doe s he remember the Mbezo man of Plumtree. Fighting for freedom is another thing but fighting for tribalism is something else. Zimbabwe must be United by the deaths of her ores not to be divided by it.

Pokugara Properties At It Again, Namedrops Mnangagwa’s Name To Evade Trial Over Malicious Damage to Property

By A Correspondent| Despite coming under fire for namedropping President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s name in their land battles against City of Harare, Pokugara Properties Managing Director Michael John Van Blerk is at it again.

According to an investigations reported submitted before Harare Magistrate by a police detective Precious Temba, unknown men who visited and threatened a Parirenyatwa General Hospital psychiatrist, Dr Ropafadzo Muzvidziwa said Van Blerk was “munhu wa President” (the President’s person).

Prior to this, opposing papers filed by another Pokugara Properties Chief Operating Officer, Tatiana Aleshina against a High Court challenge by Harare North legislator Norman Markham, Pokugara Chief Operating Officer, she namedropped Mnangagwa’s name.

Aleshina said she met Mnangagwa seeking to settle a long running legal battle with City of Harare over her boss Kenneth Raydon Sharpe’s failure to meet the terms of an agreement entered for the construction of Airport Road.

Pokugara Properties Chief Operating Officer, Tatiana Aleshina

She further dragged the Secretary for Justice Virginia Mabhiza whom she claimed to have also met while seeking to clear herself from any corrupt land dealings.

As if that was not enough, the Parirenyatwa General Hospital psychiatrist, Dr Muzvidziwa who was consulted by the Harare Magistrates Court to assess Pokugara Properties Managing Director, Michael John Van Blerk’s fitness to stand trial reported being threatened by unknown men who visited her workplace claiming that they were from the President’s Office.

Dr Muzvidziwa added that the yet to be identified men said Van Blerk was “munhu waPresident” (the President’s person).

The court has since ordered an investigation into the threats against Dr Muzvidziwa with the initial inquiry failing to unmask the two men.

Van Blerk’s trial for malicious damage to property has stalled due to his reported ill health, though Dr Muzvidziwa recently certified him fit for trial.

He is jointly charged with City of Harare officials including the then Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango and Engineer Isaiah Chawatama among others.

According to the state case, Van Blerk, Chisango, Chawatama and other connived to destroy a show house built by Harare businessman George Katsimberis at the corner of Teviotdale and Whitwell Road, Borrowdale claiming that there were no approved architectural plans.

Katsimberis insists that the construction of the show house was above board as all the procedures were followed.

Employer In Soup Over Married Maid’s Shenanigans

By A Correspondent- A heartbroken Bulawayo man has sensationally claimed that his wife’s employer allows her to meet an old flame at her house, supposedly for sex.

Taurai Mashingaidze from Matsheumhlope suburb claimed his wife Eddilyne Munasireyi meets her former lover with the blessing of her employer at her employer’s house in Ilanda suburb.

Mashingaidze revealed this at the Bulawayo Civil Court while responding to his wife’s allegations that he was verbally, physically and emotionally abusing her as punishment for not getting pregnant.

Munasireyi seemed to have courted her husband’s anger when she also claimed that he was always threatening to kill her whenever they picked an argument.

“I have been staying with Taurai Mashingaidze since December 2018 and no children have been born out of the relationship. He is of a violent disposition and has always physically assaulted me during the subsistence of our marriage.

“The latest incident was on 16 June 2021 when we had an argument about where we should put our keys when both of us are not at home. The argument resulted in him choking and assaulting me on the head. He went on to drag me on the ground.

“He sometimes beats me up in the presence of my sister and neighbours who cannot intervene because they also fear him. I once reported him to the police in February last year after he beat me up with a metal rod but later dropped the charges after he begged me and told me he would change his behaviour,” said Munasireyi.

She said her husband was also emotionally abusing her as punishment for not conceiving.

“He also emotionally abuses me concerning my inability to bear children. He often threatens to kill me whenever we have an argument. I now fear for my life and hereby apply for a protection order against him so that he stops physically, verbally, emotionally and psychologically abusing me,” pleaded Munasireyi.

Her accusations didn’t go down well with her husband who stated that she was cheating on him with her ex-lover.

“I am not opposed to her application for a protection order. My request to the court is that she should change her phone number since her ex-boyfriend is in the habit of phoning her.

“Her ex-boyfriend is going to where she works at the invitation of her employer who is allowing them to meet at her house. That ex-lover is also her employer’s taxi driver. Whenever she is going to church, she leaves early in the morning and comes back late in the evening. I am suspecting that she will be with her ex-boyfriend,” said Mashingaidze.

Presiding magistrate Nomagugu Sindisiwe Maphosa didn’t entertain Mashingaidze’s request arguing that she could not grant an order that made his wife select people whom she could communicate with or what time she could leave and come back home.

In her ruling, the magistrate ordered Mashingaidze not to verbally and physically abuse his wife.

“I Am Not A Ghost”: Says NUST Student Who Faked Own Death

A National University of Science and Technology (NUST) part four Marketing Management student, who allegedly faked his death on Tuesday, had no choice but to come out and declare that he was still among the living after the university’s department of marketing issued a heartfelt condolence message to his classmates.

The ‘dead’ student, Simbarashe Maringosi, who is said to have been admitted to hospital with Covid-19 and was discharged on Tuesday, denied that he had faked his own death and blamed his younger brother for the hoax.

“TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN. I am not a ghost… We have been getting condolence messages from numerous people the whole day who had been misinformed by my younger brother that I had passed on. We got calls from church, overseas, NUST, among other people, who received the circulating message which is not only unethical, but is not based on the truth.

“My younger brother was having my NetOne line during the duration of my COVID-19 sickness. I was only discharged this morning; I did not die this morning. How he linked being discharged and dying is a shock to me. For those who want to talk to me directly, use my Econet number: 0776 207 276,” said Maringosi in a statement that has gone viral on social media.

Mangirosi’s statement was issued later in the day after the Faculty of Marketing’s staff and students had been reduced to tears, with the head of department (Daisy Odunze) penning a tear inducing condolence message.

“It is indeed with a heavy heart that we acknowledge the news of the passing on of one of our own, Mr Simbarashe Maringosi. Simbarashe was an excellent and brilliant student and the excellence extended to his personal life. He was headed to graduate with an overall distinction had he tarried a while longer with us on earth. “I pray for reprieve for the family. May they find solace in our faith in God even in this trying period. And I pray for us all as well. May we live daily knowing that death is a debt we must pay. Implore all of us to take special care and extra precautions in ensuring our safety. Stay home. Maintain minimum contact with people if possible and above all, pray. This, too, shall pass,” read the message.

After discovering that Maringosi was alive, people close to him had no kind words for him. They dismissed his explanation and blamed him for the whole drama.

“I know Simba, he is capable of such drama. There is no way his brother could have lied that Simba had died without Simba’s blessings. In fact, he is lying that his brother is to blame for the sick joke,” said a student who refused to be named.-B-Metro

Grren Fuel Unleashes Dogs, Armed Security Guards On Chipinge Villagers

By A Correspondent- Chipinge based ethanol-making company, Green Fuel has destroyed crops and structures owned by over 1 000 households in Chinyamukwakwa village.

The company said the move was meant to prepare land for its expansion.

Green Fuel set its security guards, armed with guns and dogs, to suppress any resistance from the hapless villagers, as company tractors destroyed various crops that were ready for harvesting.

The joint venture between State-owned Arda and Macdom, and Ratings Investments, owned by Billy Rautenbach, last month ordered the villagers to vacate their ancestral land to make way for the company’s expansion.

The expansion is mostly affecting the Chinyamukwakwa village out of several other villages under Chipinge’s Ward 28.

However, the two parties had agreed on a two-month window period to allow villagers to harvest their crops, which was due to end in August.

The villagers were assisted by Platform for Youth Development (PYD) — a Chipinge based pressure group — to engage the services of constitutional expert Lovemore Madhuku on June 13.

Madhuku confirmed having engaged the company immediately after his meeting with Chinyamukwakwa villagers, where the company agreed to a two-month grace period.

PYD founder Claris Madhuku said the entire community is shocked by the outrageous act exhibited by Green Fuel.

“I’m actually shocked that this is happening. We engaged the services of a lawyer (Lovemore Madhuku) to negotiate on behalf of the company for a two-month grace period to give the community time to clear their harvests. But we are surprised to wake up to see Green Fuel’s armed security guards with dogs getting into the community declaring war. The community is equally shocked.

“Right now (Thursday morning) there are company tractors that are already destroying crops that were ready for harvesting,” Claris said.

The villagers had planted maize, cotton and sesame, which was almost ready for harvesting.

Memory Zvinongoza, a widow in Chinyamukwakwa Village, is one of the several villagers who had their crops destroyed yesterday morning.

“I received the news from a friend but thought they were joking and rushed to my field only to find everything ploughed into the ground,” Zvinongoza said.

“This was my only source of survival. Things are very difficult during the Covid-19 era and I don’t know how I am going to feed my big family. I have 11 grandchildren that I am looking after,” she said.

Zvinongoza was expecting to harvest seven to eight bales of cotton.

Inquiries by the Zimbabwe Independent indicated that a bale contains between 200-240kg of cotton, fetches an average market price of ZW$18 700 (US220).

Jerry Moyana, another villager, said it is only a matter of time before the company tractors reach his field.

Moyana planted 52 hectares of cotton, 25 hectares of maize and 12 hectares of sesame.

“By the speed at which they are moving to destroy the crops and any property established, I think they will have reached my field in three days’ time (by Monday),” he said.

Moyana said it will take him a month to clear his remaining crops.

Madhuku said he has been alerted of the ordeal and stated that he will file a lawsuit against Green Fuel to force the company to compensate the villagers.

“A lawsuit will definitely follow. We will have to sue the company to compensate the community. They agreed to the two months grace period and what the company is doing is outrageous,” he said.

Madhuku said he suspected the company enjoyed political backing from the ruling Zanu PF stalwarts, which gives it power to disregard people’s rights. Zanu PF is on record taking credit for the investment.

Green Fuel executive Nicole Rautenbach requested questions in writing when asked to comment on the matter. “Please email the questions and I will see if I can get you responses. I’m driving at the moment,” she said.

However, she had not responded at the time of publishing.

Man Fire Gang Nabbed Over 16 Robberies

By A Correspondent- Seven men who were arrested by the police between Saturday and Monday have appeared in court facing 16 charges of armed robbery.

Known as the Man-fire Gang because one of the members uses that moniker, the gang terrorised residents, taxi drivers, motorists, and villagers living close to the Limpopo River.

They would use machetes, knives and firearms to subdue their victims and are accused of stealing property worth a combined R79 345 and US$65 445 between December last year and June this year.

The suspected gangsters are Conscious Gumbo alias Pride Ndou (27) of Mawale Village, Philemon Chizani alias Man-fire (28) of Tshitaudze suburb in the border town, Handson Mhlanga (26) of Mawale, Thembani Ncube (26) and a 16-year-old suspect who cannot be named, while the names of two others are still being verified.

They were all not asked to plead to 16 charges of armed robbery when they appeared before Beitbridge Resident Magistrate Mr Takudzwa Gwazemba on Tuesday afternoon.

The suspects were remanded in custody to July 20.

Prosecuting, Mr Tawanda Chigavazira, told the court that the gang all acting with a common purpose would arm themselves with machetes, knives, and firearms before robbing their victims along the major highway leading to Harare, Beitbridge town, and those living in villages close to the Limpopo River.

The State further alleges that between December 24, 2020 and July 1, 2021, the suspects pounced on 16 people and stole an assortment of valuables worth a combined R76 345 and US$20 000.

Among the items were cell phones and several vehicles they would use to commit other crimes.

The gang is accused of burning a Mazda Familia they had stolen soon after using it to commit another armed robbery.

The court heard that five of the gang members were arrested in Mawale Village and Beitbridge town on Sunday.

Chizani was shot in the leg as the suspects resisted arrest.

The gang’s reign of terror ended when they attacked four people on July 1 in two separate incidents and they were armed with knives, machetes and a pistol.

In the first case, they had robbed a taxi driver and his passenger before stealing a pirate taxi (Honda Fit). They later dumped it near Lutumba along the road leading to Masvingo.

It is also alleged that before dumping the Honda Fit, they used it to rob a couple in Mawale of R10 000 and flea markets wares worth thousands of dollars.

Prof Jonathan Moyo “Celebrates” The Butcher Of Bhalagwe’s Death

By A Correspondent- Exiled former Information minister Jonathan Moyo has celebrated the death of the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) commander Lieutenant-General Edzai Chimonyo and described him as the “Butcher of Bhalagwe”.

“The curtain has fallen on the Butcher of Bhalagwe, ZNA’s Commander, Gen Edzai Chimonyo, aka Edzai Chanyuka; one of the most cruel Gukurahundi commanders who used to callously boast in public about the 5 Brigade’s atrocities committed under his command in Matabeleland South,” he said in a Twitter post.

Moyo described the late Chimonyo as a “Gukurahundist” who often claimed: “Some call us murderers, but our role is quite clear.”

Chimonyo, at the time of Gukurahundi, deputised the late former Air Force of Zimbabwe commander Perrance Shiri as commander of the notorious 5 Brigade which spearheaded the Gukurahundi massacres in which thousands of people died in Matabeleland and Midlands provinces, according to a Catholic Commission for Justice and Peace report.

He was later to take over from current Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga as commander of the Bulawayo-based 1 Bridage, stationed at the heart of the atrocities.

Another ZNA Chopper Develops Technical Fault, Crash Lands In Chitungwiza

By A Correspondent- Commander Air Force of Zimbabwe (AFZ) Air Marshal Elson Moyo has commended the pilots of a Mi-35 helicopter gunship for “a masterful landing” in Chitungwiza after the chopper had developed a technical fault.

Moyo said the pilots’ skills saved the lives of the aircrew and the people on the ground.

The helicopter reportedly crash-landed near oil expresser Surface Wilmar in Chitungwiza on Thursday evening. Speaking on the incident, Moyo said:

_It took tremendous skill and presence of mind for the pilots to put the lives of the people on the ground first, while experiencing an emergency._

_I wish to commend the aircrew for averting a major accident and saving lives and damage to property._

According to the AFZ, the pilots made the emergency landing after the helicopter developed a technical fault during a flight on Thursday while flying from Kutanga Range in Kwekwe to Manyame Air Force Base.

Said AFZ:

_Group Captain Maxwell Sakupwanya as the Captain and Flight Lieutenant Atiowin Tsongora, as the co-pilot/navigator, however, had the presence of mind to steer the helicopter away from built-up areas and other obstacles before making a forced landing about five kilometres to the south of Chitungwiza (Unit L cemeteries)._

Some Chitungwiza residents who spoke to The Herald said the incident occurred at 4.30 pm on Thursday.

They also said the helicopter landed at the dumpsite where there are no buildings.

In April, four people, including two pilots and an engineer, died while two others were injured after an Air Force of Zimbabwe Agusta Bell 412 (AB 412) helicopter crashed in the Hukuru Area in Arcturus, Mashonaland East.

Rwanda Deploys Troops To Mozambique

Rwanda has deployed troops to Mozambique to help fight Islamic insurgents that have been terrorising the Southern African country since 2017. The Joint Force will work closely with Mozambique Armed Defence Forces (FADM) and forces from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in designated sectors of responsibility. Pindula News present the statement issued by the government of Rwanda.

Rwanda Deploys Joint Force to Mozambique

Kigali, 9 July 2021 – The Government of Rwanda, at the request of the Government of Mozambique, will today start the deployment of a 1,000-person contingent of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) and the Rwanda National Police (RNP) to Cabo Delgado Province, Mozambique, which is currently affected by terrorism and insecurity.

The Joint Force will work closely with Mozambique Armed Defence Forces (FADM) and forces from the Southern African Development Community (SADC) in designated sectors of responsibility

The Rwandan contingent will support efforts to restore Mozambican state authority by conducting combat and security operations, as well as stabilisation and security-sector reform (SSR).

This deployment is based on the good bilateral relations between the Republic of Rwanda and the Republic of Mozambique, following the signing of several agreements between the two countries in 2018, and is grounded in Rwanda’s commitment to the Responsibility to Protect (R2P) doctrine and the 2015 Kigali Principles on the Protection of Civilians.

Background

  1. Beginning in October 2017, armed extremists linked to the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) launched an insurgency in the Cabo Delgado region of Mozambique.
  2. The group sometimes calls themselves al-Shabaab, although they do not have known links with the Somali al-Shabaab.
  3. Mozambique Defence Armed Forces have been battling the extremists. Many civilians have been displaced by the fighting.
  4. The militants have launched attacks, and in August 2020 seized the port town of Mocimboa da Praia.
  5. Over fifty people were beheaded by terrorists in the province in April 2020 and a similar number in November 2020.
  6. In September 2020, the ISIL insurgents captured Vamizi Island in the Indian Ocean.
  7. On 24 March 2021, the militants seized Palma, murdering dozens of civilians displacing more than 35,000 of the town’s 75,000 residents.

President Chakwera Under Fire Over Daughter’s Embassy Appointment

By A Correspondent- The president of Malawi, Lazarus Chakwera has come under heavy criticism for appointing her daughter to serve as Secretary in the office of Malawi’s Embassy in Brussels, Belgium.

Reports suggest that Chakwera has appointed Violet Chakwera Mwasinga as third Secretary in the officer of Malawi’s Ambassador in Brussels.

The development comes barely weeks after Chakwera also appointed State Vice President Dr Saulos Chilima’s in-law as Ambassador.

This has angered many Malawians and some have taken the issue to social media to condemn Chakwera’s malpractice.

Ironically, before Chakwera was elected into office, he heavily criticised his predecessor Peter Mutharika for nepotism.

Writing on his official Facebook page social commentator Onjezani Kenani accused Chakwera of repeating Mutharika’s mistakes. Said Kenani:

_At the podium, they took turns accusing Peter Mutharika of practising nepotism. What they meant was nepotism was bad for only as long as those being put into government positions were not their own family members. Once they were voted into power, we are now told that it’s not nepotism because the relatives they are appointing have qualifications._

_Did those people Peter Mutharika appoint not have the so-called qualifications? Besides, the last time I checked, Peter Mutharika never appointed any son or daughter of his to any taxpayer-funded position.

His daughters, by the way, are lawyers, with their own legal firms. He also never appointed any in-law to any taxpayer-funded position. But hearing them say it, one would have thought he was the worst nepotist that ever walked the earth. Tell me: why should your nepotism be considered better than Mutharika’s nepotism?_

Nepotism is not unique to Malawi as a host of leaders across the globe have been accused of practising the same.

The practice can have a huge adverse impact on the growth of an economy, especially if the individuals who attain jobs through nepotism are incompetent to execute their duties and responsibilities.

Bogus Chief Uses the Presidency to Intimidate And Harass Povo

Your Excellency

We heard you on several occasions threatening to deal with those who name drop senior officials including The Presidency for their own personal gain but to date no action has been taken. We the Murowa Community even raised our voice regarding one bogus chief who mentions your name and other senior government officials namely the Midlands provincial minister and minister of local government, July Moyo, to threaten and harass people. Recently the bogus chief set fellow teachers to attack and beat one parent at the school in full view of the pupils. Although this case was reported nothing was done to him because he is untouchable. All the district heads are afraid of him including the ward Councillor, police, DA and his superiors within the ministry of education.

This bogus chief acts as if Mazvihwa is his little Zimbabwe. Within the main political arena, he plays both the ruling party and opposition. While during the day he supports the ruling party at night he will be busy castigating the same for ruining the country and making teachers poor. That he hates the government of the day as clear as pure diamonds. He is the chief architect of boycotting class, mobilizing fellow teachers not to attend lessons. Within the ruling party itself he plays G40 and Lacoste factions against each other. Any member who challenges him is labelled G40 and is quickly reported to the mentioned senior officials. Sadly his actions have destroyed the ruling party’s support base in the area. As a community we don’t care about his political shenanigans but worried about the lack of developed in our area due to the absence of a substantive Chief.

Using this modus oparandi of name dropping the bogus chief has captured management of Murowa Diamonds thereby getting a contract for service delivery at the mine and also having his relatives employed by the same mine in large numbers at the expense of Murowa ward youths. How the mine awards tenders especially to the so called locals is a case for ZACC to investigate as these tenders are rich in corruption and done nicodemusly. The so called locals are nothing but a facade of company employees and senior politicians. The bogus chief shield the company from carrying out its corporate social responsibility in a ” do as I say” way. Yes this man calls the shots at the mine because as he claims he is connected to the Provincial Minister, Local government minister and even the Presidency.

His claim to the chieftainship is based on the fact that his uncle who passed on almost a decade ago was Chief Mazvihwa. Any efforts to have a new chief installed have been hampered by the very same minister of local government. For 10 solid years this bogus chief (he is not the acting chief) has been abusing the chieftainship for his personal gains. He is on record threatening those who dare challenge him with unspecified action. For 19 solid years the people of Mazvihwa have been denied the right to a substantive chief simply because the local government and provincial ministers are complicity in this issue. It is high time Your Excellence that you reign in your ministers and make sure they tow the line. All your efforts will come to nothing if your team plays bhora musango. The general povo demand action not mere rhetoric. Corrupt officials and name droppers must be arrested without fear or favour same with those who abuse their offices.

Zimbabwe is bleeding Your Excellency. We know you can rise above the occasion by creating a smoke and fire situation which everyone can see. This is the time for action. Take bold decisions and fire all corrupt, incompetent and non performers without fear or favour. Those who name drop especially The Presidency must get custodial sentences. We hear of smugglers of precious minerals are part to the name dropping gangster, so only action will clear your name Yr Excellence.

Enough is enough. Towards a prosperous Zimbabwe

Woman Dies After Dog Bite

death notice

By A Correspondent- Three days after a vicious dog bite on the lips, a Rimuka woman has died due to complications occasioned by the mishap.

Susan Muswaire, 45, died at Sarudzai Health Centre on Tuesday morning after her blood pressure and sugar levels shot up in the wake of the dog bite, according to her husband Garikai Maworesa.

She had a history of high blood pressure (BP) and high sugar levels.

“What happened is on Saturday evening she went to ask for her US$20 debt from a householder along Mainge Road.

She was bitten by a guard dog at the house around 6pm before she could be attended to by the debtor. She came back home immediately after that. We could not seek medical attention the following day as we wanted the dog owner to avail its rabbies certificate.

“The owner of the dog did not bother to avail that certificate for his dog. He instead went to Gweshe mining areas,” said her husband Maworesa.

He added: “We managed to have her treated on Monday. Her situation got worse leading to her admission at a local health facility. When l went there yesterday, her condition had gotten worse.”

The dog owner, who was at the deceased’s home where the funeral wake is, said he is still in disbelief over the events unfolding.

“These things are hard for me to believe. She was bitten by my dog on Saturday evening. This happened as she tried to open the perimeter gate through an opening on the gate. As she tried to peep in through that opening that’s when my dog unfortunately bit her on the lips. I can’t come to terms with news that Mai Mamoyo has passed on, especially, soon after the dog bite. I’m devastated,” said the owner only identified as Steady.

Steady looked distraught and pensive.  He told H-Metro that he was a close friend of the family through Susan’s brother Freddy who is now based in South Africa.

“I’m a family friend here and she is my sister. We used to do business here during the forgettable economic crisis days, selling bread as l was employed in the baking industry.” he said.

Limited mourners are gathered at house number 23 Rumumba Street.

ED In Secret Pact With UK Over The Deportation Of Asylum Seeking Zimbos

  1. Flight chartered for 21st July 2021.
  2. Meetings attended by Zim Foreign Affairs Diplomat and for the British embassy, Emily Hardy.
  3. Zimbabweans arrested at reporting centres.
  4. Home Office confirms meeting

By Business Correspondent | Scores of Zimbabweans are being bundled up and arrested around the United Kingdom after the British government entered a secret deal to deport hundreds of Zimbabwean asylum seekers.

The UK government is chartering a flight to deport at least 150 undocumented Zimbabweans from the 21-22 July 2021, ZimEye can reveal.

The secret deal was entered into in meetings held between the 22nd and 23rd June 2021, ZimEye reveals.

Those to be deported include mere immigration offenders, but the media will be advised that they are all convicted criminals, the meetings concluded.

The meetings were attended by a Zim Foreign Affairs Diplomat and one Emily Hardy who is the Migration Delivery Officer at the High Commission in Harare.

A private jet has been booked to fly out of London Heathrow on the 21st July 2021 and will land at RGM Airport the following day.

Reached for a comment, a UK Home Office spokesperson told ZimEye: “The public rightly expects us to remove those who have no right to be in the UK.”

On the legalities of the operation, they said, “we do not comment on operational matters.”

Commenting on the development immigration solicitor, Andrew Nyamayaro said while he was not aware of the flight details, he knows: “at least 8 Zimbabweans who have been bundled at reporting centres and taken to the government’s removal centre near Heathrow Airport.”

The development comes as proven jobs scammers and agents, Olinda Chapel, and Caroline Mujeyi Nyakudya went on a campaign illegally charging desperate job seekers in Zimbabwe claiming the UK govt is on a mass recruitment exercise for nurse aids, while withholding data limits imposed on their licenses by the Home Office. The British Police described the adverts as a scam and encouraged victims to report it on number +443001232040.

Daring Herdboy On The Run After Stealing Employer’s Car

By A Correspondent- A man employed as a herd boy in Empandeni, Plumtree is on the run after reportedly stealing a vehicle belonging to his elderly employer.

The vehicle is a red Honda Fit registration number AFH 4885.

The suspect has been identified as Mduduzi Ndlovu from Nyamandlovu.

Narrating the incident to CITE, the daughter of the elderly woman, Sizani Moyo, said the incident happened yesterday around 11 pm.

Moyo said prior to the incident, she had reprimanded Ndlovu for neglecting the goats and preferring to look after the cattle.

“So, last week when I was in Zimbabwe, I gave him a warning and he apologised but I ended up telling him that he has to look for another person to assist him to look after the goats since he preferred the cattle,” said Moyo.

“I think he felt that I wanted to fire him, so he took the car and other goods together with groceries and ran away.”

Matabeleland South acting provincial Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Thabani Mkhwananzi confirmed the incident saying the suspect is on the run.

“I can confirm that there is such a case and the suspect is on the run, we haven’t recovered the car,” said Assistant Inspector Mkhwananzi.

“He was employed as a herd boy and it looks like he was tasked to wash the car; after that, he claimed that he had misplaced the keys, the family looked for the keys until they surrendered and retired to sleep.

“Around 11 pm when the old woman was asleep, she heard the sound of a car, when she tried to go outside to investigate, she realised that the door was locked from the outside.”

The car could have been stripped after some villagers picked the vehicle’s front bumper.

Assistant Inspector Mkhwanazi appealed to anyone who may have information on Ndlovu whereabouts to contact their nearest police station.

He also urged employers to conduct background checks of their prospective employees before hiring them.

“We would like to also encourage employers to pay the employees on time, it is not only the employee who is bad all the time, some of the employers hire people without paying them, not that I am saying the old woman was not paying him, but at times the employees would want to recover owed salaries through unorthodox means,” said Assistant Inspector Mkhwananzi.

Man Rapes Minor Cousin “Over” Her Sweets

By A Correspondent- A 30 year old man from Entumbane suburb has been arrested for allegedly raping his 11-year-old cousin after he promised to give her sweets.

The accused man cannot be named to protect the identity of the minor.

A source close to investigations said between August and September last year, the man was staying with the girl at a family house in Entumbane suburb. The mother of the child was in South Africa, where she works.

In September last year the man arrived home at around 9pm and invited the minor to his bedroom saying he wanted to give her sweets, said a family member who requested not to be named.

When the unsuspecting child got into his bedroom, he grabbed her by her neck while warning her not to scream. He threatened to kill her if she screamed, a family insider said.

He raped her and ordered her not to tell anyone about the rape ordeal.

“He told her that if ever she told anyone that he raped her he would kill her and throw her remains into a fire. The minor kept the horrendous act to herself. Sadly she suffered sores on her privates, causing her to walk with difficulty,” said a source.

Sometime in October 2020 her mother returned and took her to South Africa.

While she was in South Africa the tot revealed to her mother that she had been experiencing sharp pains in her private parts.

“She disclosed that she was raped by acousin and was afraid to tell anyone because he threatened to kill her if ever she told anyone. After the shocking revelation, her mother travelled back to Zimbabwe with the minor and reported the matter at Entumbane police station,” said a source.

The sex offender was arrested this week on Tuesday.

Bulawayo deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that we arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly raping his 11-year-old cousin,” she said.

She warned parents never to leave their daughters with male relatives, adding that every male had the potential of being a rapist and advised rape victims to report such cases within 72 hours so that they could get post exposure prophylaxis.

SRC Suspends All Soccer Matches Amid Rising Covid-19 Cases

By A Correspondent-The Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) has poured cold water on the prospects of a quick return of domestic football after demanding that players and officials be placed in a bio-bubble.

Football stakeholders had hoped that the SRC would allow football a special reprieve so that the Chibuku Super Cup could resume after it was halted for the second time last week.

But such hope now looks faint after SRC Thursday made the new demands after noting an increase in the number of COVID-19 cases among footballers and officials.

“The first half of the Chibuku Super Cup tournament covering the period April to mid-June 2021, 9 500 tests were done with four retaining positive results. This represented a positive infection rate of 0,042%.
“The second phase of the Chibuku Super Cup tournament which commenced mid-June until the suspension during the week ending Friday July 2, 2021, a total of 24 COVID-19 positive cases were detected from 1 100 tests,” the sports regulator said.

“This signified a positive test rate of 2,182% over a one-and-half week period and an absolute increase in numbers of 51.8 times.

“Consequently, two Chibuku Super Cup fixtures: Harare City FC v ZPC Kariba FC and Ngezi Platinum Stars FC v Triangle United FC had to be postponed by the organisers as a way of mitigating the risk of spreading infections.

“The increase in the number of positive tests outlined above represent an increase of 600% between the first phase of the tournament which lasted for two-and-a-half months and the second phase which lasted for two weeks.

Therefore, the first phase contributed 14% of the total positive cases as compared to the second phase which contributed 86% of the total positive infections albeit in a two-week period.”

SRC added: “The above statistics underscore the fact that without placing footballers and officials in a bio-secure bubble, the immediate return of premier league football in the present environment is simply not possible. A positive player risks infecting team-mates, close family members and subsequently, the community.

“It is clear that any return to top flight football at this stage can only happen if a full bio-secure bubble environment is implemented where players and officials reside in controlled environments for the duration of the tournament.

“This is the position implemented by cricket and rugby, among other protocols, leading to the various exceptions granted to them in the present environment.”
Only a handful of teams in the top-flight can afford to place players in a bio-bubble for weeks.

Probably, it may be easy for army teams Black Rhinos and Cranborne Bullets as well as wealthier sides FC Platinum and Ngezi Platinum Stars.
Teams such as Dynamos, Caps United and Highlanders have been experiencing financial challenges and are unlikely to afford such an arrangement.

Fake Cops Nabbed While Taking Bribes From Teen

By A Correspondent- A Form Four pupil who was not wearing a face mask almost fell victim to fake police officers who were demanding a bribe.

The pupil (16), who cannot be named, was at Bulawayo’s Centenary Park with his girlfriend, cudd_ling on the lawn under a tree, when Mduduzi Dube (31) and Fanuel Ncube (29), who are both from Pumula South suburb, pounced on them.

They told them that they were police officers from Bulawayo Central Police Station, but they did not produce identification cards.

Ncube and Dube harassed the lovebirds for not wearing face masks. They arrested them and said they were taking them to Bulawayo Central Police Station.

When they had walked for about 100 metres, the fake police officers demanded a bribe.

“They told me that I will rot in jail and to avoid that I have to pay them. I gave them R100,” said the pupil.

As the bogus cops were being paid, police officers from Kumalo Police Station came to their rescue.

“They asked them what was happening and the young couple told them that they were arrested by police officers for not wearing a face mask and had paid them R100 fine so that they would be set free,” said a source close to investigations.

The real police officers asked Dube and Ncube to produce their police IDs, but they failed, said a source.

“They were then arrested and taken to Kumalo Police station,” said a source.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube confirmed the incident: “I can confirm that we arrested two male adults for impersonating police officers.

They ordered a Form Four pupil who was not wearing a mask to give them a R100 bribe. We would like to urge community members to adhere to Covid-19 protocols by wearing face masks properly and sanitise so as to avoid falling to prey to unscrupulous people.”

Zanu In Diaspora Vote Buying

By A correspondent- The desperate ruling Zanu PF said it would soon be reaching out to Zimbabweans in the diaspora and solicit for their votes in the forthcoming elections.

This was said by the party’s United States of America district Secretary for Administration Simba Mujuru to the state media Friday.

“Who will be footing the bill for all the resources and logistics. It could exhaust budgets. It is not possible for diasporas to vote in USA. The USA is just as big as Africa. If we are going to say let’s have a vote in America for Zimbabweans in the diaspora you might have to make it possible to have a constituency or a ballot box in every area where everyone can access the ballot box easily,” said Mujuru.
