Billows of talk went wild all over Uganda that President Museveni’s son has fallen ill. There was neither comment nor mention in the state media.

Museveni’s son, Lieutenant General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, a British trained soldier, was promoted a week ago, reports Nairobi news.’

PRIMROSE Siziba seethed with anger and spewed the f-bomb at her mother and stabbed her in the stomach with a kitchen knife after she was asked why she came home late.

Tarisai Sipanda (47) of Cowdray Park suburb got worried after her daughter failed to come home by 6pm recently on a Sunday.

When she finally arrived at around 7pm, Sipanda who was anxiously waiting for her in the kitchen, asked her why she came home late.

Jada Fenyere

By A Correspondent- Jada Fenyere, an Arcturus toddler who was injured when an Airforce of Zimbabwe (AFZ) helicopter crashed on the Fenyere family home early this year has been discharged from hospital.

This was revealed on Thursday when AFZ donated an assortment of goods worth thousands of dollars to the families of victims of the helicopter crash that happened early this year.

The donation included basic commodities and clothes worth $140 000 from the Manyame Air Base community and Kutsaga Tobacco Research Board.

The accident claimed two AFZ pilots, Wing Commander Thomas Tinashe Manyowa and Flight Lieutenant Anita Mapiye, an aircraft technician Flight Sergeant Tinodiwanashe Chikamhi and the 18-month-old Jade Fenyere.

Speaking while handing over the groceries to the families, the deputy Commander of Manyame airbase, Group Captain Maxwell Sakupwanya said:

Yes, we know it takes time to heal from this painful experience, but we are also there to support and provide welfare to the families of our beloved ones.

… Through this donation we are also welcoming a baby, Jada who was in the hospital two months ago, she was discharged last week so we are here to welcome him with these assortments of groceries including diapers, cereals and other essential foodstuffs.

… We want also to see Anita’s child growing up similarly to other children so will continue to provide the necessary support to the families.

Elias Mapiye, Anita’s father appreciated the support offered by Kutsaga Tobacco Research saying it will go a long way in providing the welfare and support of the baby.

Joseph Fenyere, Jade’s father also welcomed the development saying AFZ is an organisation that shows a sense of responsibility.

Last month the AFZ also handed over property which included two double beds, a gas stove with a 9kg tank, a television set, blankets, cutlery and pots, a complete solar power unit, a kitchen unit, a wardrobe, food, a lounge suite and US$400 to the Fenyere family in Arcturus who lost their daughter Jade who was sleeping when the helicopter burst into flames.

Jade and Jada who are twins, were both sleeping in their parents’ house when it was damaged by the chopper which caught fire on impact.

Harare Residents Shun Mnangagwa Buses

By A correspondent- Pirate kombis were Thursday back in full force as some passengers shunned the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) buses which have increased fares by 100percent.

The doubled fares which came into effect today will now see commuters forking out $60 for the bus and $80 for the kombis for shorter routes.
The pirate kombis are still charging $50 per single trip.

The new development has seen mshikashika kombis being a preferred option as they are now cheaper.

There was a rare sight of buses canvassing for passengers in most western areas this morning.

One mshikashika driver told Chronicle that they were not planning to hike their fares.

Zupco has said the fare hike was necessary to maintain viability.
Zupco chief executive officer Mr Everisto Madangwa said the new fares were a cost-containment measure by the company.

“High operational costs and frequent price hikes taking place in the country has forced us to increase the fares to ensure the company improves service delivery as well as cushion its costs. What the public should however note is that we do not increase our prices all the time, instead we doit after a period of time,” said Mr Madangwa.

Chinhoyi Surgeons Offer To Reconstruct Chinhoyi Dog Attacked Boy’s Face

By A Correspondent- Doctors at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital have offered to reconstruct the face of a seven-year-old local boy who was recently attacked by three pit-bull dogs in the town’s suburb of Mapako which seriously injured his face and legs.

The attack saw Samuel Phineus receive a mini-facial reconstruction through 21 stitches at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital where he is still being attended to.

While the boy is lucky to be alive, the attack has wiped the pockets of Tendai Phineus (39), his unemployed father.

“Since he was attacked on 17 June, we have parted ways with over US$270 for his medical bills and transportation,” said Mr Phineus.
“The owner of the dogs has only offered US$60 and $1 500 and has since started giving me cold shoulders because I reported the incident to the police.”

Mr Samuel Mugari, the dogs’ owner, could not be contacted as he was said to be at his Zvimba farm.

The young boy was attacked while coming from her grandmother’s house which is opposite Mr Mugari’s residence.

ZITF Company board chairman, Mr Busisa Moyo said this will allow exhibitors and potential visitors to reschedule their preparations with ample time and also allow the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic to subside.

“We have been ceased with the matter of adjusting ZITF dates which were originally 20-23 July but now require review of the appropriateness of holding the event on these dates in light of the rise in Covid-19 cases. Police Name Traffic Cop Who Was Crushed To Death By ZUPCO Bus

A TRAFFIC police officer who was yesterday crushed to death by a Zupco bus in Bulawayo along City-Khami Road, has been identified as Constable Parity Makaitei Karimazondo.

Const Karimazondo was with her colleagues manning a road block and she tried to cross the road when the bus hit her and dragged her for about 30 metres and broke her into pieces. She was stationed at ZRP Bulawayo Traffic West.

It’s not yet clear what caused the accident and officers who were on the scene were visibly shaken following the tragic death of their colleague.

A Chronicle news crew visited the scene of the accident and observed police attending to the accident.

Initially they tried to carry the body into a metal coffin, but due to the fact that it was broken into several pieces they failed.

They resorted to laying the coffin by its side and pushing the body into it.

Officers and members of the public who were at the scene crossed their hands at the back of their heads while others shook their heads in disbelief.

Police Commissioner-General Godwin Tandabantu Matanga conveyed his condolences to the Karimazondo family yesterday.

National police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi urged members of the public to be cautious on the road.

“Const Karimazondo was trying to cross the road and as she did, she was struck by the bus, trapped and dragged for 33 metres. She died on the spot. We offer our condolences to the family as said by the police Commissioner-General,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

“It is an unfortunate incident and we are urging drivers to be responsible on the road and they shouldn’t speed. When approaching police checkpoints, they should proceed with caution. When stopped they should stop and wait for further instructions from the police officers.- Chronicle

Mom Snatches Daughter’s Boyfriend

By A Correspondent- “It was love at first sight, I hope Chichi will understand..” A Waterfall girl Chichi (21) has regretted her decision to go home with her man Tafadzwa (23) as she lost her man to her mother Donna (43).

She only got to know she had lost when her mother mistakenly sent pictures she took with Tafadzwa at a Kariba safari lodge. Tafadzwa didn’t deny the relationship. “We didn’t mean for her to find out this way.

I have always been too mature for my age and I fell in love with Donna the first I met her on a visit with Chichi. We exchanged numbers and met for lunch and one thing led to another. I meant to break off with Chichi but her mom may have felt I was taking too much time.

She was not ready to share me with her daughter. I hope Chichi will understand and maybe accept me as her stepdad. ” Donna refused to entertain The Citizen and threatened to shoot us with something that looked like a toy gun. Chichi has moved out of her mother’s house. ” I felt like killing them”.

Kombis Bounce Back …

Pirate kombis yesterday recorded brisk business as most commuters shunned the Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (Zupco) buses which increased fares by 100 percent.

The doubled fares which came into effect yesterday saw commuters forking out $60 for the bus and $80 for the kombis for shorter routes per one-way trip. The pirate kombis are still charging $50 per trip.

The new development has seen illegal kombis being a preferred option as they are now cheaper. There was a rare sight of buses canvassing for passengers in most western areas yesterday morning.

Zupco has said the fare hike is necessary to maintain viability. Zupco chief executive officer Mr Everisto Madangwa said the new fares were a cost containment measure by the company.

“High operational costs and frequent price hikes taking place in the country have forced us to increase the fares to ensure the company improves service delivery as well as cushion its costs. What the public should, however, note is that we do not increase our prices all the time, instead we do it after a period of time,” said Mr Madangwa.

One mshikashika driver told Chronicle that they were not planning to increase their fares.

“As long as the fuel price is still the same, we have no plans to hike our fares thus we will continue operating at $50 per trip. Business was good today. We made more trips than we usually do because there were many people at bus stops than usual. In the morning I made three trips to Pumula South within two hours. Today will indeed be a good day,” he said.

Commuters said that the prices were too high for them.

“The fare hike came as a surprise and it’s really hard to take. Now we have to risk our lives boarding non-Zupco kombis who at any time will play chase with the police, but there’s nothing that we can do. They are now the better alternative because they are now cheaper than Zupco. We can also negotiate with them to board at a $40 they comply but with Zupco, there’s no negotiation,” said Mrs Mercy Ndebele from Mabuthweni suburb.

Mr Godfrey Siziba said the prices were inconsiderate because now that working hours have been cut short some people work on commission.

“Business hours have been cut short meaning that for us who work on commission we are now getting less than usual. Imagine dedicating three quarters of your earnings to bus fare, not even a kombi.

“Now this means some of us will never set our feet in Zupco kombis again because they are too expensive. Using the current rate, the Zupco kombi is now US$1 per trip which is ridiculous,” said Mr Siziba.

Mrs Anathi Mhlanga said the price was pushing up the cost of living and called for government intervention.

“It’s a relief that now schools are closed. When they open all my salary will be for transport. What makes it very sad again is that it’s the only legal transport which means there’s no alternative for us. The Government needs to intervene and the problem has to be solved. The cost of living is now too high,” said Mrs Mhlanga.– Chronicle

“My Wife Has Ruined My Life”

A man from Bulawayo who made headlines last week after he claimed that when his “abusive” wife beats him, he cheats as a payback tactic, has opened up about his toxic marriage.

Tinotenda Mudarikwa the founder of Rare Diseases and Disability Africa Zimbabwe (RaDDA), is having serious marriage problems with his wife Charity Mapondera-Mudarikwa.

They got married in September last year.

Less than a year after tying the knot, Mudarikwa is not enjoying his marriage life which produced a five-month-old baby daughter.

The sour relations of the couple have made some judge him as a “media attention seeker” after he held an interview with local radio station Skyz Metro FM.

In an interview with the radio station, Mudarikwa claimed his name was soiled by B-Metro as the story affected his philanthropic work.

From the horse’s mouth, Mudarikwa revealed to this reporter on Wednesday that most people and organisations that were funding him had since pulled out from sponsoring his initiatives of changing the lives of the underprivileged in the society. He blames his wife for taking their marital issues to the media.

“She (wife) has destroyed my life; I no longer have friends now. People who have been supporting me have pulled from injecting support to my organisation (RaDDA) because of the bad publicity the story generated.

“I am not going to leave my wife because of this saga, I want to man up for my actions because everyone makes mistakes and I am willing to take responsibility for my actions,” said Mudarikwa.

However, Mapondera-Mudarikwa believes that her husband is using media connections to clean his name.

Mudarikwa’s protection order application against his wife

“If you look at me and him, the body language simply concludes that I can’t exchange blows with Tino. Even his media friends didn’t talk to me and I don’t know how they manage to talk to Tino alone.

“If ever they wanted to strike a balance on this issue, they were supposed to call me in the studio and I express my views. Tino is using his connections and power to fight me and this is what most women in my position and situation suffer,” said Mapondera-Mudarikwa.

She said Tino was not apologetic about his shenanigans and cheating.

“Last week on Thursday night, we had a family meeting and he was not even remorseful about his actions. I don’t know when he is going to man up and take full responsibility for all this,” said Mapondera-Mudarikwa.

Even though Mudarikwa claimed he was not leaving his wife after this episode, a close source said a divorce was inevitable for the couple.

A protection order application (in the possession of B-Metro) filed by Mudarikwa against his wife is solid proof.

Mudarikwa said he was now turning over a new leaf.

He encouraged men to speak out about abuse they are facing in their homes.

“This has been a learning curve, I always kept it to my own that my wife is an abuser and the issue became a cancer to the extent that it couldn’t be controlled. The manner in which my issues became public is bad.

“However, it has made me brave and granted me an opportunity to face my fears head on. Let’s talk about these issues as men because the community always favours women as victims, yet there are some who are monsters,” Mudarikwa said.- B-Metro

Divine Lunga Joins Mamelodi Sundowns?

Reports from South Africa suggest that Mamelodi Sundowns have completed the signing of Zimbabwean international and Golden Arrows defender Divine Lunga.

The 26-year-old caught the eye of Masandawana in the just ended season during which he was in impressive form.

Divine Lunga will be linking up with his former mentor Steve Komphela who currently acts as Mamelodi Sundowns’ senior coach.

Lunga has been a standard feature for Golden Arrows since joining them in 2018 and has made 84 appearances for the club while scoring once and assisting four more goals.

He joins the defending DSTV Premiership champions on a three-year deal and will be competing with the likes of Lyle Lakay, Aubrey Modiba and Tebogo Langerman at left-back.

Modiba and Lakay, arguably two of South Africa’s finest wing-backs at the moment, were both used on a rotational basis during the Brazilians’ bumper local and continental schedule.

Some argue that the move might prove unwise for the Zimbabwean international saying he is likely to be benched or loaned.

It remains to be seen whether Langerman will remain at Mamelodi Sundowns next season after seeing limited game-time during the 2020/2021 campaign.

Meanwhile, Sundowns are reportedly interested in resigning another Zimbabwean international, Kuda Mahachi from Super Sport Unted.- The South African

“The late Major General was a strong revolutionary cadre who served his country before and after independence with utmost loyalty, dedication and commitment,” he said.

“I knew him personally, even though he joined the liberation war via Botswana and Zapu.”

President Mnangagwa said Maj-Gen Chiramba was bestowed with the national hero status due to his unwavering commitment to Zanu PF.

He consoled the Chiramba family, saying the nation was mourning with them in their bereavement.

Vice President Chiwenga said he worked together with Maj-Gen (Rtd) Chiramba after independence in the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA), when the Maj-Gen was his deputy at Five Brigade in Gweru from 1985 to 1988.

“I knew him at a personal level, we wanted to see him get old, but unfortunately due to the pandemic he left us early,” he said.

Vice President Chiwenga said at the time of his death, Maj-Gen (Rtd) Chiramba was part of veterans of the struggle who were writing a book on the liberation war. Cde Mohadi consoled the family, saying the nation shared in their loss.

He said Maj-Gen (Rtd) Chiramba contributed immensely to the country’s independence and maintenance of peace.

Father to Maj-Gen (Rtd) Chiramba, Mr Shadreck Chiramba, thanked President Mnangagwa and Government for honouring his son and family.

Mr Chiramba said the honour bestowed on his son was a consolation to his family in their time of mourning.

Maj-Gen Chiramba’s younger brother, Alfred, also thanked the President for the honour, saying even after retirement, his brother remained loyal to Government and the ruling party, Zanu PF.

Born on February 2, 1955, in Chivi district in Gude Village, Maj-Gen (Rtd) Chiramba did his primary education at Jenya Primary School from 1961 to 1968.

He left the village for Mashava where he did Ordinary Level through correspondence and would later join the liberation struggle, which led to the independence of the country in 1980.

He was later attested in the ZNA where he rose to become a Major General until he retired from active service in 2004. Maj-Gen (Rtd) Chiramba led Two Infantry Brigade during the DRC campaign under the auspices of the SADC Allied Forces.

The military intervention, which was code-named “Operation Sovereign Legitimacy”, was meant to ward off rebels, secure the DRC territory, and to protect civilians.

Maj-Gen (Rtd) Chiramba is survived by his wife, Beatrice Chiramba nee Pawandiwa, eight children and 16 grandchildren. -Herald

Edward Zuma, the son of convicted former president Jacob Zuma, says his father would not spend a single day in prison if he has anything to say about it.

He spoke to the media outside Zuma senior’s Nkandla homestead on Wednesday, a day after his father’s 15-month jail sentence for contempt of court was announced.

When asked if his father would possibly go into exile, he said there was no need because he would not even be arrested.

“Why would he go to exile? His home is here in Nkandla. He’s not going to jail, and nobody is going to arrest him, so we should not worry about Mr Zuma going out of the country. Whoever had those thoughts are living in another world,” he said.

He said he would not say much more and would leave the official stance of the former head of state to his legal team.

“I made mention of this yesterday (Tuesday) that in regard to the judgment delivered yesterday, Zuma and his legal team have not made a statement and we should afford them that opportunity to do so.

“The stance that Jacob Zuma is not going to prison is my stance as Edward Zuma, the son of Jacob Zuma.”- News24

Can A Migraine Headache Cause Someone To Have A Seizure ?

MIGRAINE
What You Need to Know About Migraine and Seizures
Sometimes migraine and seizure occur in the same person, but sometimes it’s just difficult to tell which a person is experiencing.

When migraine symptoms don’t respond to migraine therapies, it may worth considering whether the person is really having seizures.Adobe Stock
Migraine attacks and seizures are both events related to the brain, but exactly how the two are related to each other is something that experts are still trying to unravel.

“There times when a patient experiences an event, and it’s not immediately apparent if they’ve had a seizure or a migraine,” says Lauren Doyle Strauss, DO, a headache specialist and an assistant professor at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem, North Carolina.

“That’s because there can be an overlap in some of the ways that people describe both of those problems,” Dr. Strauss explains.

There is evidence that the two disorders are associated with each other: The prevalence of migraine in children with epilepsy — which causes seizures — is estimated at 8 to 24 percent, which is approximately double the risk found in the general population, according to a paper published in the Journal of Headache and Pain.

What Is Migralepsy?
Migralepsy is an older term that has been used to describe when a person has both migraine and epilepsy, says Strauss. The term was first used in a paper published in 1960 to describe a condition in which “ophthalmic migraine with perhaps nausea and vomiting was followed by symptoms characteristic of epilepsy,” according to a paper published in the Journal of Headache Pain.

This type of seizure, which is triggered by a migraine attack with aura, is considered a rare but real complication of migraine, according to the International Headache Society (ICHD-3).

A Seizure Can Be Part of Epilepsy or Migraine
To better understand the connection between migraine and seizures, it’s helpful to understand what a seizure is, says Strauss. “You could describe it as a sudden surge of electrical activity in the brain,” she says.

Johns Hopkins Medicine defines a seizure as “a burst of uncontrolled electrical activity between brain cells (also called neurons or nerve cells) that causes temporary abnormalities in muscle tone or movements (stiffness, twitching, or limpness), behaviors, sensations, or states of awareness.”

People are diagnosed with epilepsy after they have had two or more unprovoked seizures, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Seizures Are Different Depending on Where They Occur in the Brain
There are two categories of seizures: generalized seizures, which affect both sides of the brain, and focal seizures (also called partial seizures), which take place is just one part of the brain, according to the CDC.

Depending on which part of the brain is affected, that’s the area that will manifest symptoms, explains Strauss.

“For example, if the area of the brain that controls your language is affected, then that makes sense that your language may not be normal during the seizure. It could cause you to stutter or have trouble with your words,” she says. Similarly, if someone had a seizure in the area of the brain that controls your vision, that may correlate with visual symptoms, says Strauss.

Just because the seizure begins in one part of the brain doesn’t mean it stays there. “A seizure can start in one area of the brain and can quickly spread to other areas or across the entire brain,” she says.

People can experience a seizure in a lot of different ways, says Strauss. “You can have a change in your awareness; others may notice that you’re staring. You may have amnesia, where you forget or are unaware there’s been a change in your surroundings, or you don’t even know that a seizure happened,” she says.

“Your whole body can shake — that’s called a grand mal seizure, and it’s often what people think about when they when they think of seizure. You can also have shaking in one arm or just one leg,” says Strauss.

Can a Migraine Attack Cause Someone to Have a Seizure?

“We don’t fully understand what provokes a migraine and what provokes a seizure; it could be possible that something provokes both,” says Strauss.

Headaches can occur on their own and be unrelated to seizures, or a headache can be a symptom that happens before, during, or after a seizure, says Strauss. “We use the terms ‘preictal,’ which is before the seizure, ‘ictal,’ which is during the seizure, and ‘postictal,’ which is after the seizure,” she says.

Preictal and ictal headaches are relatively rare and usually don’t last long, according to the Epilepsy Foundation. Headaches that occur after a seizure are more common. A survey of 372 patients attending an epilepsy clinic found that 45 percent of them had experienced a postictal headache, and more than 1 in 5 always had one.

Is It a Migraine Attack or a Seizure?
“If a person is having migraine symptoms that aren’t responding to migraine therapies, and they have neurologic symptoms associated with the headaches, it’s reasonable to take a step back and say, ‘Are we sure these are migraines?’” says Strauss.

If you have a grand mal seizure, it’s usually clear that it’s a seizure, she says. “However, with focal seizures or partial seizures or complex partial seizures, these more subtle seizures where it’s only affecting one part of the brain, it can be difficult to always know…

Mnangagwa Regime Loses Coal Deal Due To Violation Of Human Rights

Tinashe Sambiri|The Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa’s troubled administration is sulking following the withdrawal of a Chinese investor from a coal deal.

Although the reasons for the Chinese bank’s withdrawal from the deal are unclear, economists say the regime’s flagrant disregard of human rights is blocking potential investors from coming to Zimbabwe.

Analysts further argue Zanu PF bigwigs are the real sanctions tormenting the country.

The Chinese bank, Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (ICBC) bank has abandoned a plan to finance a $3 billion (around R43 billion) coal-fired power plant in Zimbabwe.

“This is highly significant, obviously for Zimbabwe but also for Chinese overseas energy financing,” said Lauri Myllyvirta, lead analyst for the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air.

“It is the first time, to my knowledge, that a Chinese bank has pro-actively walked away from a coal-power project.”

A police officer manning a roadblock on Khami Road in Bulawayo has been run over by a Zimbabwe United Passenger Company (ZUPCO) bus.

The bus dragged the female cop for about 30 metres and broke her into pieces.

Police officers who attended the scene initially tried to carry the body to a metal coffin, but due to the impact on the body which had broken into several pieces they could not.

They resorted to laying the coffin by its side and pushing the body into it.

The police also had to cover bloodstains on the tarmac with sand.- State media

Zanu PF Destroys Gazaland Malls As Operation Murambatsvina Intensifies

By A Correspondent- Authorities have destroyed structures at Gazaland informal industrial area along Willowvale Road.

Vehicle wrecks that had encroached on the road servitudes were removed before being crushed. Even a dumped haulage truck on the roadside was removed. The traders managed to save almost half of the vehicle wrecks s by pushing them to safe places, including nearby houses.
Structures that had encroached onto the road verges from houses, some used by food shops and barbers, were also destroyed.

Thieves and looters, including children, were preying on the traders that were collecting their wares at the last minute with a handful that resisted notice to vacate having lost their valuables including broken-down bicycles.

One of the earth moving machines used for demolishing the structures developed a tyre puncture around lunchtime and was parked at a nearby council facility.

A traditional healer at the Gazaland shopping area partly hogged the limelight after resisting the demolition of his illegal shack alleging that his operations were aboveboard as he was registered with Zinatha. The shack was still intact.

City spokesperson Mr Michael Chideme on Tuesday said the demolitions are ongoing and those still operating illegally should vacate the public space they are illegally occupying.

“Where people have been given notices, they should do the honourable and move off on their own, he said. A trader, Mr Felix Chavengwa commonly known as “ngoma ngoma” in the Gazaland area who has been operating at the site for the past 15 years only complained of being given a short notice.

Zvimba Farmer On The Run For Setting Dogs On Seven-Year Old Chinhoyi Boy

By A Correspondent- A prominent Zvimba farmer, Mr Samuel Mugari, is on the run after setting his on a seven-year-old Chinhoyi boy.

The innocent boy, Samuel phineus was recently attacked by three pit-bull dogs in the town’s suburb of Mapako which seriously injured his face and legs.

The attack saw him receive a mini-facial reconstruction through 21 stitches at Chinhoyi Provincial Hospital where he is still being attended to.

Mr Samuel Mugari, the dogs’ owner, could not be contacted this morning as he was said to be at his Zvimba farm.

The young boy was attacked while coming from her grandmother’s house which is opposite Mr Mugari’s residence.

Gokwe Man Stabbed To Death For Infidelity Confession

By A Correspondent- A man from Gokwe North died after he was stabbed to death for recklessly telling a newlywed husband, that he was the one who had impregnated his wife.

22-year-old Justice Chidhakwa seems to have been harbouring feelings for his former lover, despite the fact that she had recently married Joseph Muzenda.

Over the weekend Chidhakwa approached Muzenda and rashly told him that he had married a woman who was pregnant with another man’s baby. He claimed that he was actually the one who was responsible for Muzenda’s newly married wife’s pregnancy.

It is not yet clear what Chidhakwa hoped to achieve through this reckless course of action. Muzenda, on the other hand, did not take the news well and plotted with his friends to attack his love rival.

Muzenda is alleged to have teamed up with Simbarashe Zikoke and Wellington Zharare to ambush Chidhakwa. During the attack, the alleged father was stabbed twice and died on the spot.

The incident was confirmed by Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko. Inspector Mahoko told the state-owned daily The Herald: “The suspects waylaid Chidhakwa along a footpath near Manoti Business Centre in Gokwe North on Sunday at around 7pm before confronting him for claiming that their friend, Joseph Muzenda, had married his pregnant girlfriend.

“Simbarashe Zikoke then grabbed Chidhakwa from the back, while Zharare stabbed him once on the left side of the chest and once on the leg with a knife. He died on the spot.”

The police did not release more details on the status of the investigation into the killing.

Top Funeral Services Boss Narrates Long Motivational Journey To His Success

By Philip Mataranyika- Thirty-five years ago today I joined Old Mutual as a pensions administration clerk, working from their offices at Mutual House on the corner of Speke Avenue and Second Street.

I had applied for a clerical job shortly after receiving my O’ level results for the October 1985 exams. Back then, jobs after O’ level were not that much of a problem, we had many opportunities and choices especially after posting good results.

As I left home that morning of the 1st of July, The Customs and Excise department, one of two organisations that merged in the 90’s to form ZIMRA expected me to start work with them also as I had passed my interviews with them, one of only two successful candidates of a rigorous recruitment process, alongside Chakuvinga Katsukunya who would become a life long friend. I would decide to join Old Mutual on the morning of that day for two reasons. First, Old Mutual was a private enterprise, my young mind reasoned, so rising within the ranks would be easier than in a government institution. Secondly, the salary I would get working for Old Mutual was a dollar more and that made a big difference back then.
Back then, working for the Customs and Excise Department was as prestigious as it is working for ZIMRA today. Talk was, there were huge opportunities once one was posted to one of the busiest ports in Africa, Beitbridge and fortunes would be made overnight doing deals with importers and exporters. I was tempted but quickly dismissed the thought thinking I wasn’t cut out for deals. Soon reports of staff caught on the wrong side of the law would come out in newspapers and I thought I may have saved myself the loss of a job and possible jail time by walking straight up the road from the bus at charge-office bus terminus instead of walking a few steps to the Customs and Excise offices a stone’s throw away.
When I started at Old Mutual I didn’t think I would last long there, why? Because at heart I was a motor mechanic in waiting. I would work for a few months waiting for my break to become a motor mechanic apprentice, I reasoned.
Soon I would be called for interviews including one at Duly’s Masvingo. I was excited thinking this was my break. As I boarded the Express Motorways bus to South Africa, my heart was filled with joy. I would get the opportunity to train as a motor mechanic, after which I would set up my own garage repairing cars making lots of money, I thought. Long story short, the interviewers had other ideas. I didn’t make it. Disappointed, I came back to my Old Mutual. After two years of trying to get an opening for apprenticeship training I gave up and started looking at what I could do to enhance my career at Old Mutual and rise within the ranks. After looking for courses I could study, I settled for IMM. Marketing came naturally for me as I had been selling everything at work including taking photographs for a living during my spare time. Also it was cheaper than most courses including those from the UK as the rand was weaker than the Zim dollar.
At intermediate diploma stage I was again unsettled. Now wanting to practise Marketing instead of sitting at the desk doing clerical work. I started looking for openings as a marketing intern attending many interviews in the process including one at Flexible Packaging now majority owned by Mr Fanuel Muhwati after its unbundling from Hunyani.
Chubb Alarms was another company I interviewed for without success. It was now almost five years after joining Old Mutual as a pensions admin clerk and I had experienced very little movement up the corporate ladder, I was frustrated. I had a steady girlfriend and looking to getting married soon. I would be able to buy a house and be comfortable given the housing and car loans available at Old Mutual but I always thought about starting and running a business of my own. How would I do it?
In 1991, I married my childhood sweetheart Mavis. In 1992 I decided I had had enough of sitting at the desk doing clerical work. I joined the Old Mutual field force as a sales rep and my enthusiasm for work was rekindled. I worked hard selling Old Mutual policies. In no time I would be promoted to an Executive sales rep. Promotion to Financial advisor followed soon after and I joined the Old Mutual elite field force at FAS, the Financial Advisory Services, by invitation, as the youngest Financial Advisor. Times were good!!
In time I would rise to the top of the financial advisory services ladder becoming the top financial advisor for five years in a row. As I went about my business selling policies, clients would ask if Old Mutual could develop a funeral assurance product. I gave management the feedback, ‘We don’t do funeral policies, we can’t do that as it is too low for our station’, came the response. Because there were so many enquiries about funeral policies, I thought it would be a good idea to register a funeral assurance company. What name would I give it. After agonising over many names I settled for Nyaradzo. Why Nyaradzo? Because Zimbabweans were moving away from kurova guva and chenura. They were now doing memorial services a few months after burial which in Shona are called Nyaradzo and I settled for it as the name for the new funeral assurance company before getting it registered.
At about the same time, Old Mutual announced the launch of a 100million dollar small to medium scale businesses fund and I thought I stood a good chance of accessing the funds since I had worked well and hard for them. I made my application hoping to get the one million dollars minimum capital required for licensing by IPEC. At that point I was prepared to cede majority shareholding to them for the million dollar capital I needed. Like what happened when I gave management feedback about what the market wanted, funeral policies, they didn’t see merit in my proposal.
In 1993 I had bought a house in Marlborough for 400k which with inflation was now valued at 1.4million. One Ambrose Matika Assistant General Manager Mortgages at CABS would facilitate the remortgaging of our family home giving us the princely sum of a million dollars needed for licensing, I was ecstatic.
On the 1st of March 2001, I would walk into 9th floor, Livingstone House, an Old Mutual property, not as an Old Mutual employee but a tenant marking the beginning of my Nyaradzo journey.
Today I celebrate thirty-five years in the insurance industry, thankful to Old Mutual for giving me the opportunity to work for them and exposing me to the insurance industry. It was from them also that we got our first office shelter, the iconic Livingstone House.
While my Nyaradzo journey could have been easier with their support at the formative stages of Nyaradzo, I am thankful for the training and exposure they gave me. A number of times during our twenty years of Service Excellence, we have turned to Old Mutual for assistance, hitting a brick wall with most attempts. For instance in 2004 we were desperate for a financial bailout after we bought our first funeral parlour, 120 Herbert Chitepo on debt, sold to me by my good friend Newton Madzika who had bought Doves from the Hammer-Nel family. I will forever be grateful to Newton for breathing life into Nyaradzo when he sold us this very important asset. Soon after we did the 120 Herbert Chitepo transaction there would be a new sheriff in town in the name of the RBZ Governor Doctor Gideon Gono. As part of his efforts to stabilise markets, he said, he allowed interest rates to rise to a thousand percent within a few months, resulting in our initial debt of 800million dollars ballooning to 8billion dollars, unintended consequences, he used to say, we would soon become insolvent, if we didn’t take action. I sought refuge again to who else? You guessed it, Old Mutual. We went knocking at their door bowl in hand and on our knees begging. By now we had ten buses, and we thought rather than beg, we would put a deal beneficial to both parties on the table. Because burials in Zimbabwe are done from 11am to 3pm, we used our buses to ferry Old Mutual staff from town to their head office in Emerald Hill and they would pay us monthly in arrears. We proposed that we sign an annual bus provision contract so they could pay us a discounted annual fee upfront which would help us settle the ballooning debt. Our buses had helped Old Mutual staff get to work on time for months if not years, helping management to plan their work schedules without interruption, from the time they had contracted us to be their transporter.
For months they stringed me along, requesting for this and that security including title deeds to the few properties we had by now acquired and I obliged. Right at the dearth, they would tell me that it wasn’t possible, I was distraught.
I went down on my knees in tears as I knew that I stood to lose all I had worked hard to establish up to that point. That was possibly the lowest point in my life. Instead of being shattered and putting my hands up in surrender, it strengthened my resolve to succeed.
A few months later, I would structure a deal that got us out of trouble and clear the multi-billion dollar debt we had, giving us another chance to not only survive, but experience phenomenal growth. My appetite to dance with Old Mutual was not finished.
In 2009 Old Mutual would launch their own funeral policy, the Flexi-Plan, a cash paying product. They asked some of their senior executives to arrange a meeting with my team so we could be the services provider of that funeral cash plan, as they soon realised that a funeral policy is not about cash, but actual services.
In the meeting we proposed that they recommend a 10million dollar mortgage loan to us from sister company CABS, so we could put up more service centres across the country for the benefit of theirs and our clients. We didn’t think this would be a big deal given that CABS is in the business of giving out mortgage loans anyway. “We are the Green Giant, and will not be cornered into doing such kind of deals by upstarts like you”, came the response, from one of their senior executives”. But it was you who called us to this meeting in the first place” I said quietly to myself. When you were calling us to this meeting, had you forgotten that you were the Green Giant, I mused.
After the meeting we resolved that we would work hard to build a robust and strong branch network to ensure that we served our clients better. We ran many customer service courses so we could deliver on our promises. We bought more hearses and buses using own resources and without borrowings.
My cardinal sin was that I was always optimistic and hopeful that Old Mutual was my refuge when in trouble. How could I think of anyone else. I was raised and brought up there. I had no friends outside of Old Mutual. Their values were my values too, I thought. Even as I would do a private placement document to raise capital later, my first port of call would be Old Mutual, again without success. To their credit though, The Green Giant have now come around, working with us in efforts to regreen our environment. We are now partners in our efforts to export our services to the rest of Africa, starting with our mutual project Mtunzi in Malawi. It is our hope that we can replicate this partnership in other places on the continent for business growth and development.
As I celebrate my thirty-five years in the insurance industry today, thanks to Old Mutual who gave me the opportunity to work for them and learn, I am mindful of what could have been had I not decided to part ways with them twenty years ago. I would have been celebrating thirty-five years in the industry as an employee of Old Mutual. I look back over the thirty-five years and see how little I knew about insurance until I joined them. Ironically before I was asked by one Steve Matosi, an employee of Old Mutual to submit my application, I didn’t know what they did, let alone know anything about insurance. After fifteen years of training, I knew enough to want to set up my own like John Fairbain did in 1845, naming it Nyaradzo which today is the second largest life office in the land, second only to Old Mutual themselves. I have learnt many lessons from my experiences.
I often think about John Fairbain, the Scotsman, who in 1845 with the support of his friends incorporated the Mutual life Society of South Africa in Cape Town, changing it to Old Mutual after another group of friends had incorporated a new entity, Colonial Mutual. The board and management of the Mutual Life Society of South Africa would change the name of their enterprise to Old Mutual to distinguish themselves from the upstarts, Colonial Mutual, who had also set up shop in the city.
When I am faced with challenges running Nyaradzo today, I try and go back to 1845 and the years after for inspiration. I think about the many challenges Old Mutual has faced on their journey to where they are today, the Russo-Japanese war of 1905, two Anglo-Boer wars, the great depression and two world wars, apartheid and many others and yet they came out of it, survived and thrived.
I think about what John Fairbain would have done faced with challenges back then and now. Usually I get inspired and move forward. Assuming he together with his buddies had created a founders club to which only founders of insurance companies would belong, I would have been allowed to join that club on the morning of the 1st of March in 2001 when I walked into Livingstone House, an Old Mutual property as a tenant, as CEO of a new enterprise Nyaradzo. Maybe he and his colleagues would have set rules that only founders of organisations that survive ten years would be allowed membership. In that case I would have been a member of the founders club on the 1st of March 2011. At Nyaradzo at 20, I am sure I would have been ready to put my name in the hat for the chairmanship of it.
I hope that one day there will be someone enthused enough to set up a founders club to which names of founders of insurance companies deceased and living would belong. It would be an honour to have mine alongside that of John Fairbain today, more so in 100 years time.

By A Correspondent- The ruling Zanu PF party has once again directed local authorities to go ahead with destroying structures in and around Harare.

Zanu PF on Monday said it had ordered Local Government and National Housing ministers July Moyo and Daniel Garwe, respectively, to stop the demolitions, describing them as “inhumane”.

But barely 24 hours after Obert Mpofu’s statements, demolitions resumed in Glen View suburb, following on from the destruction which started at Mbare’s Mupedzanhamo market and spread to Chitungwiza and in Mashonaland East province, with the destruction of over 3000 stands at Melfort, under a housing development run by Roger Pote.
Pote is a director at Eastwinds Properties, which was developing the Melfort stands. He is also a Zanu PF youth league provincial executive member. Yesterday, the police demolished illegal tuckshops in Mutare.
The ruling party yesterday convened a stakeholders meeting which was attended by Garwe and Moyo as well as Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs minister Aplonia Munzverengi to try and resolve the Melfort demolitions.
Mpofu said those who had unlawfully allocated land to land seekers should be prosecuted to uphold the rule of law and address unscrupulous parcelling out of land, which he said was rampant throughout the country.
The party claimed Pote and his company disregarded the instructions from Goromonzi Rural District Council to halt construction in Melfort, which prompted the local authority to seek a court order to demolish the illegal houses.
Zanu PF shifted the blame to some unnamed party members, whom it said were using the party’s name to defraud land seekers.
“Let us all take cognisant of the fact that the rule of law should prevail as is continuously reiterated by His Excellency President Emmerson Mnangagwa,” Mpofu said.
“The issue of capture of State land and disenfranchisement of our people at the hands of unscrupulous individuals under the guise of the banner of the party has become pervasive and should be brought to an end.”
He said the ruling party could not risk losing votes of Mashonaland East residents in the 2023 harmonised elections due to the demolitions.
“The GDP of Mashonaland East, which has been increasing as a result of the projects undertaken there, must not be overshadowed by the unfortunate events which led to the demolition of houses in Melfort,” he said.
Zanu PF acting commissar Patrick Chinamasa said there was a frank discussion in the stakeholders’ meeting.
He said Moyo and Garwe were ordered to resolve the issue of land barons, while Zanu PF councillors were ordered to consult in future before land developments are undertaken.
He said a housing regulation committee was set up to include the Small and Medium Enterprise ministry, Justice, provincial ministers as well as Local Government and National Housing.
Chinamasa also said the party was going to take action against party members implicated in “selfish heinous activities”.
“Name-dropping does not award anyone authority and the law must take its course,” he said.
“Land barons must be brought to book. As the ruling party, we say that all those who were affected by the demolitions should be awarded another land. The demolitions were done in error. Consultations must have been made with all stakeholders before they were done.”
Zanu PF has been accusing the MDC Alliance of causing the demolitions, an allegation the opposition party has denied.

Mnangagwa Clamps Down On NGOs

By A Correspondent-Zanu PF has made its first move in its clampdown on non-governmental organisations (NGOs), with the Harare metropolitan provincial development co-ordinator (PDC) Tafadzwa Muguti ordering civic organisations operating in the capital to report to him.

Muguti has summoned all directors of NGOs and private voluntary organisations (PVOs) to pay a courtesy call to his office, claiming that some of them were operating outside their mandates.

Government has on several occasions threatened to deregister civic society organisations (CSOs), accusing them of dabbling in politics and being hostile to President Emmerson Mnangagwa and his ruling Zanu PF party.

In a circular to NGOs, CSOs, PVOs and faith-based organisations yesterday, Muguti ordered them to submit work plans for the rest of this year. He demanded that they provide him with information on workshops and other operations they would be conducting within the province.

Muguti also ordered the organisations to provide monthly reports and other information on their operations by July 9, 2021.

“It has been noted with a high degree of concern that any organisations operating in Harare Metropolitan province, in particular NGOs, have been straying from mandates stated in their respective memoranda of understanding (MOUs),” Muguti said in a circular dated June 30 seen by NewsDay.

“Suffice to say that such behaviour represents a breach of memorandum of agreement and should not be manifested further.

“In view of the foregoing, all non-governmental organisations are hereby directed that operations and clearance of NGOs is now domiciled with the provincial development co-ordinator. All NGO country directors are also invited to a courtesy call with the provincial development co-ordinator and the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution (Oliver Chidawu) for formalities.”

He, however, did not state the constitutional provisions that give him the power to summon the NGOs.

In 2019, High Court judge Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo ruled that district administrators had no business in the operations of NGOs.

Several directors of local NGOs confirmed to NewsDay that they had received Muguti’s circular yesterday, but some said they were failing to comprehend his dictates.

Knox Mtizwa Out Of COSAFA Cup

Golden Arrows striker Knox Mutizwa will not take part in the upcoming Cosafa Cup slated for this month.

The former Highlanders striker was one of the few South Africa-based stars who were drafted into the squad by Warriors coach Zdravko Logarusic and was expected to lead Zimbabwe’s quest for a record 7th title.

However, a source in the Warriors camp told Soccer24 this morning that Mutizwa will not make it- he is attending to his wife who isn’t feeling well.

“Knox is no longer coming, his wife has health issues so he is attending to that,” the source said.

Medical Doctor In Trouble For Declaring Van Blerk Fit For Trial, Gender Based Violence Fears Raised

By Jane Mlambo| A Parirenyatwa general hospital medical doctor Dr Ropafadzo Muzvidziwa has reported being threatened by some unknown men over an affidavit she deposed before the Harare Magistrate Esther Chivasa confirming Pokugara Properties Managing Director Michael Van Blerk’s fitness to stand trial for malicious damage to property.

Van Blerk was arrested together with City of Harare officials including the then Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango, Engineer Isaiah Chawatama and others after they reportedly connived to destroy a show house built by Harare businessman George Katsimberis as part of a joint venture agreement with Pokugara Properties owner Kenneth Raydon Sharpe.

In her affidavit Dr Muzvidziwa recommended that Van Blerk attends psychotherapy for depression and anxiety but gave the court the greenlight to proceed with trial saying his current condition allowed him to follow through court proceedings.

This appeared to have angered some yet to be revealed male individuals visited her workplace and spoke a Sister in Charge wanting to know why she deposed the affidavit that cleared Van Blerk to stand trial.

Prosecutor in the Van Blerk’s case Zivanai Macharaga told Harare Regional Magistrate, Esther Chivasa requested for an investigation into threats made to Dr Muzvidziwa.

“After she compiled the affidavit on Monday in the afternoon she (Dr. Muzvidziwa) started communicating with me expressing that she was now being threatened by unknown people, as to why she had deposed an affidavit in the position we have.

“I had to reassure her that the law enforcement would assist. The male individuals who came I am told spoke to a Sister In Charge but she (Dr. Muzvidziwa) advised me that she declined to entertain the men. She was threatened to mind her career because of the way she deposed this affidavit. I then advised her that for her safety I will be informing the court and requesting that the police investigate those attempts to obstruct the course of justice,” said Macharaga.

This flies in the face of Zimbabwe and judiciary’s fight against gender based violence as the male individuals in question could have targeted Dr Muzvidziwa because of her sex.

The issue also raises questions on the judiciary’s administration of justice considering that the state witness Georgios Katsimberis’ lawyer in a related case, Tendai Biti is being charged with manhandling Pokugara Properties Chief Operations Officer Tatiana Aleshina.

A gender activist contacted by ZimEye, Rebecca Mawoyo said threats against a medical doctor who is just doing her work was unwarranted and smacks of gender based violence.

“I am sure they targeted her because they clearly knew she is a woman, the fight for protection of women will not be achieved as long as there are people who target women for harassment.

“She is just a professional and as far as we know, medical doctors are guided by a very strict code of ethics and there is no way she can get involved in fights between individuals, if there are any in this particular case,” said Mawoyo.

Health Check: What Are Partial Seizures?

Byo Man Nabbed Over Fake US$ Notes

By A Correspondent- Police in Gweru have arrested a 23 year old Bulawayo man who was found in possession of US$2 710 in fake notes after he tried to buy medicine from a pharmacy.

The incident occurred on Saturday at about 6pm at Sante-Plus Pharmacy at Chirandu Shopping Centre in Senga, Gweru.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the incident and urged members of the public to scrutinise the United States dollar bills they get from clients in case they are handed counterfeit notes.

“Circumstances are that on the June 26, the accused Tinashe Kanengoni of Nketa 7, Bulawayo disembarked from a Toyota Mark X motor vehicle at the Business center and bought Solphyllex Syrup from Sante-Plus pharmacy. He used a US$100 note and was given US$90 change,” said Insp Mahoko.

He said Kanengoni allegedly rushed back to the vehicle which had two other occupants.

Insp Mahoko said the till operator Mr Kumbirai Brian Chereti immediately realised that the note was fake before running after Kanengoni.

“The till operator realised that the vehicle was about to take off before he jumped onto the bonnet of the motor vehicle. Upon taking off, the driver realising that Mr Kumbirai Brian Chereti was clinging on to the bonnet swerved to the left and right in an effort to throw him off the bonnet. In the process the driver lost control of the vehicle which fell into a ditch,” he said.

Two occupants including the driver, Insp Mahoko said, disembarked the motor vehicle and fled.

“One suspect, Tinashe Kanengoni was apprehended by members of the public who reported the matter to ZRP Senga Police. Police attended the scene and upon searching the vehicle, four different vehicle number plates, $2 710 fake US dollars comprising of 25xUS$100, 3xUS$50, 2xUS$20 and 2xUS$10 were recovered,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said investigations are in progress.

“The other two suspects are at large while Kanengoni is in police custody. He will be taken to court soon to answer charges of fraud,” he said.

Insp Mahoko appealed to members of the public who might have information on the whereabouts of the other suspects to inform any nearest police station.

“Also, members of the public who have fallen victim to criminals using counterfeit money are invited to approach Senga Police and assist in this investigation. We would also like to urge business people to closely check the bills they are given before processing transactions,” he said.

Blow To Mnangagwa Regime As Chinese Bank Pulls Out Of Coal Deal

NPA Proceeds With Trial Of Witness-Cum-Accused Despite ZACC Praise Of Whistleblowers

BY A CORRESPONDENT| Recent remarks by the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) Chairperson Justice Loice Matanda-Moyo praising whistle-blowers for their role in the fight against corruption could prove to be mere rhetoric following the National Prosecuting Authority’s decision to proceed with the trial of Harare businessman George Katsimberis who is a witness and an accused on the same set of facts.

Matanda-Moyo in a recent statement said whistle-blowers played a big part in the arrest of 103 corruption accused persons in the past six months.

Katsimberis reported the then City of Harare Town Clerk Hosia Chisango, Engineer Isaiah Chawatama as well as Augur Investments owner Kenneth Raydon Sharpe and his ally Michael John Van Blerk among others for malicious damage to property.

He is now in trouble as the accused persons in his case turned around and reported him for fraud using the same set of facts.

In his letter to NPA, Head of the Special Anti-Corruption Unit (SACU) in the office of the President, Tabani Mpofu expressed concern that a witness lined up to testify on behalf of the state was being charged on the same facts.

“SACU is deeply concerned that a witness who is lined up to testify on behalf of the state, that is George Katsimberis is now being charged on the same facts and the accused persons in his case are now witnesses in a case against him.

“In these two cases that are referred herein above the state appears to allege a particular fact on one hand and also alleging the opposite and charge its own witness. The efforts of combating corruption can be put in jeopardy if cases are handled in this way,” SACU said.

Katsimberis reported Chisango and his accomplices after, without a court order they destroyed a show house he built at the corner of Teviotdale and Whitwell Road, Borrowdale as part of a botched joint venture agreement with Sharpe.

Now he has to content standing in the dock as an accused person after Sharpe reported him back for fraud claiming that he used substandard material to construct the show house.

Open Letter To Mr Muguti

Dear Mr Muguti
I write to you as a private citizen. I would have loved writing to you in my official capacity as Secretary General of the Zimbabwe National Students Union but where I lead we do not respond or communicate with private citizens who have no legally recognized official capacity at law. Since your alleged office has neither constitutional nor moral basis, I will choose to have a conversation with you as private citizens.
Reference is made to what was purported to be a circular from your “office” attempting to regulate the work of CSOs, FBOs and NGOs. The said circular was recklessly filled with emotions and at its worst written in the first person, itself another reason I chose to respond to you individually! Before I get to the matters raised in the circular, I will need to concede you have every right to have and express an opinion on the works of CSOs but that is the best you can ever do about these organisations. Attempting to act on your emotional paranoia and apparent dislike of these organisations basing such on self arrogated powers that have zero constitutional basis is a futile exercise.
Your very existence allegedly as a Provincial Development Coordinator is legally and constitutionally vacuous and as such anything you attempt to do with good intentions (something I doubt you have the capacity to do) or malicious intent (as in this instance) is a high sounding nothing. While you would love to attempt and masquerade as Prime Minister of the Republic, your actions have long exposed you as nothing but a political tool in the hands of the ruining ZanuPf party. While we understand your zeal to please those who illegally appointed you to a nonexistent office, the closure of civic and democratic space is certainly not part of your fictional terms of reference and it is my advice that you cease. Dwarfs in borrowed robes are not exactly the best candidates for a contest this fiery. Run!
It is not a mistake of omission that your circular mentions not a single legal provision to justify your interest in the work of CSOs, FBOs, Trusts and NGOs. There is not a single legal provision in this country that makes these organisations accountable to your fictional office. Therefore your circular remain nothing more than the emotional ramblings of a private citizen with no force or sense at law.
CSOs will continue working with line ministries as has been the norm and in line with the LAWS of the land. You are not the Prime minister of Zimbabwe vaMuguti. If you are so eager to exercise power and authority, you are welcome to contest for elected office and change the laws to your liking. In the interim, you remain an unelectable nonentity whose existence is unconditional and actions criminal.
I would want to part with some advice. A person in an illegal position as yours should enjoy the loot of illegal salaries in clever silence. The glasses that make up your house are too fragile for you to be picking up stone fights!

Sincerely
Tapiwanashe Chiriga

Kekana was born on 4 August 1958 in Zebediela in the then-Transvaal. The South African singer-songwriter lost his sight at the age of five and went on to attend a school for the blind in Pietersburg, now Polokwane.

It was during this time that he nurtured his love of singing and joined amateur musical groups as a teenager.

To date, Kekana has reportedly recorded more than 40 albums and worked with the likes of Ray Phiri, Nana Coyote, Joe Nina and Hotline featuring PJ Powers.

Kekana, an advocate, was a university graduate with B Juris and LLB degrees. He also lectured in labour law at Unisa. Last November Unisa bestowed an honorary doctorate in philosophy on Kekana.

“I had a dream to obtain a degree from this university, but I did not fathom that it would come in this nature. I am humbled to be chosen to come to represent people living with disabilities,” Kekeana said in accepting his honorary doctorate.

Van Blerk Declared Fit To Stand Trial For Malicious Damage To Property

BY A CORRESPONDENT| Pokugara Properties Managing Director Michael John Van Blerk whose trial for charges of malicious damage to property had stalled due to alleged ill health has been declared fit and able to follow through court proceedings, according to an affidavit submitted to the Harare Magistrates Court by a medical doctor from Parirenyatwa General Hospital.

Van Blerk allegedly connived with his ‘at large’ boss Kenneth Raydon Sharpe and City of Harare officials to destroy a show house built by a Harare businessman George Katsimberis at the corner of Teviotdale and Whitwell road, Borrowdale.

The show house was built as part of a joint venture agreement between Sharpe and Katsimberis to develop Pokugara Estate into a low density residential area.

According to Dr Ropafadzo Muzvidziwa from Parirenyatwa general hospital, Van Blerk who was earlier reported to be suffering from depression and Catatonic epilepsy had applied to have his trial postponed to allow him to heal.

“I examined Michael John Van Blerk and noted he feels anxious and sad but no suicidal ideations. Michael John Van Blerk’s thoughts were organised with no hallucinations (hearing voices inside his head not seeing visions). Michael John Van Blerk blood tests were normal, his computer tomography scan of the brain was normal and the electroencephalogram was normal,” said Dr Muzvidziwa.

She recommended that Van Blerk attends psychotherapy for depression and anxiety but insisted that his current condition allowed him to follow through court proceedings.

“My opinion is that Michael John Van Blerk at the time of the alleged offence had no mental disorder but suffers from mild depression and anxiety. Michael John Van Blerk experienced an acute confessional state as a result of the stress of the trial. I recommend Michael John Van Blerk attends psychotherapy (talk treatment) for depression and anxiety. Michael John Van Blerk is now fit to stand trial and can follow through court proceedings,” she added.

Meanwhile, Harare magistrates’ court has separated Van Blerk him from his accomplices including former City of Harare Town Clerk Hosiah Chisango and City Director of Works Engineer Isaiah Chawatama.

He will now stand on his own.

Meanwhile, social media has reacted to the news of Star FM Presenter KVG real name Kudzai Violet Gwara buying a house at Pokugara Estate.

One user Dr Controlla Gabi said he has previously raised the issue of leaseholds where the property buyer does not own the land their property is on.

“Congratulations KVG. I hope they gave you a fair contract for the property. I have raised the issue of leaseholds @WestPropZim have introduced in Zim whereby the property buyer doesn’t own the land their property is on. Haven’t responded. Star FM hasn’t commented either,” said Controlla Gabi.

Pokugara Properties COO pose for a picture as KVG opens door to her new property

Controlla Gabi added that West Property was introducing a failed concept which he said does not guarantee sufficient buyer legal protection.

“I’m concerned that you’re introducing failed concepts that deprive aspiring homeowners of this birthright. I don’t believe there is sufficient buyer legal protection,” added Controlla Gabi.

Mnangagwa To Address Rally In Chivi In The Midst Of Raging COVID-19 Pandemic

Tinashe SambiriFearless MDC Alliance vice chairperson Hon Job Sikhala has accused the Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa of exposing citizens to the deadly COVID-19 pandemic.

Mr Mnangagwa is expected to address a rally in Chivi District on Saturday, despite the fact that COVID-19 cases are rising in the country.

Hon Sikhala also accused the Zanu PF regime of using COVID-19 restrictions to suppress perceived political opponents.

“They ban us but see:
All provincial members, DCC executive members, CC members and all district chairpersons (3 per district) will be attending HE, President Mnangagwa’s rally kwa Chivi on Saturday 03.07.2. All buses will nw leave from Chitsanga hall for Chivi on Saturday morning,” Hon Sikhala wrote on Twitter.

Commenting on the protests in South Africa following the conviction and sentencing of former President Jacob Zuma, Hon Sikhala said:

“This is what happens when people see as if their system is persecuting opponents for political gain.

In SA they don’t shoot those who express themselves.

Here, coming to Court in solidarity, they arrest, torture and keep u in Remand prison for months.

Ours is a cursed nation.”

Govt To Take Over All Health Facilities Run By Councils

By A Correspondent- Vice President Constantino Chiwenga who doubles as the Minister of Health and Child Care Wednesday told the Parliament that the government is in the process of taking over all health facilities run by councils.

Chiwenga said the move was part of a grand plan to ensure standardised service delivery as envisaged by the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1).

The former military boss said his Ministry was in the process of recruiting provincial medical directors for Harare and Bulawayo.

He made the remarks while responding to a motion moved by Bulawayo Proportional Representation legislator Dr Thokozani Khupe who bemoaned the continued charging of user fees by health centres despite a Government policy against that. Chiwenga said:

_To ensure implementation of National Development Strategy 1 on health and well-being, the Ministry of Health and Child Care is in the process of absorbing into the mainstream, all local authorities health delivery platforms which include clinics, polyclinics, rural hospitals and infectious disease hospitals._

_In this regard, the Ministry is in the process of filling the gaps of provincial medical directors for Harare and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces reporting directly to the Ministry._

_This will standardise the provision of health service delivery among other things addressing both the welfare of health workers and Government user fee position._

Chiwenga added that MoHCC had just crafted the Health Development Strategy for 2021 to 2025 which would ensure equitable health delivery to everyone

He said the charging of user fees was in contravention of the exemption policy and has resulted in decreased use of services by most members of the community who are not able to afford the user-related fees.

Chiwenga added that the current setup had created a risk for patients purchasing unregistered and unapproved medicines from the black market.

The health system in the country has been collapsed for decades now with the haves getting medication beyond the country’s borders.

EXCLUSIVE: Sakunda Retrenches Workers As Effects Of Sanctions Against Tagwirei Hit Hard

By A Correspondent| Sakunda Holdings has retrenched tens of workers as economic sanctions imposed on the firm and its chief executive officer Kudakwashe Tagwirei take toll on the once shining company in Zimbabwe.

The exercise, which claimed the sculps of long serving executives and middle managers, has seen chief operating officer Mr Mberikwazvo Chitambo and head of special projects Mr Clement Kahiya being sent home.

The US slapped sanctions on Mr Tagwirei and his business acting on recommendations by some opposition parties and NGOs for “supporting the Zanu‐PF government.”
According to sources privy to the developments, only 16 workers were spared.

“Sakunda has hit hard times and it’s a sign that the sanctions are biting everyone,” said the source.
“The signs were always there as the company once closed its logistics section sometime back. Sakunda was once a shining company but sanctions have taken away the glitter of the company with a massive retrenchment exercise. The company has even laid off some its most trusted lieutenants like Chitambo and Kahiya, leaving a skeleton staff of 16 workers.”

United States of America placed businessman Kuda Tagwirei and his firm Sakunda Holdings under sanctions over his support for the Zimbabwe government.

The step had long been expected after Tagwirei received repeated public criticism from American diplomats, leading to his long-time partners Trafigura buying him out in 2020.

In imposing sanctions on Tagwirei and Sakunda Holdings, the US Treasury Department said Tagwirei has been sanctioned “for providing support to the leadership of the Government of Zimbabwe”.

The US also believes Sakunda was involved in what it says is an unaccounted for US$3 billion allocated under the Command Agriculture program.

Appearing before Parliament in March 2020, Sakunda Chief Operating officer Mr Mberikwazvo Chitambo showed documents that he said proved that his company had received around US$1 billion between June 2016 and May 2019 for Command Agriculture.

Contacted for comment on the recent developments, Sakunda Chief Executive officer Mr Kudakwashe Tagwirei did not respond to questions sent to his mobile number.

Quelea Birds Ravage Mat North Fields

Quelea Birds

By A Correspondent- Quelea flocks have appeared in Matabeleland North and are hitting sorghum and peal millet fields, warns the Plant Quarantine and Plant Protection Research Services Institute.

Shingirai Nyamutukwa, head of the institute, said yesterday that his organisation and the National Parks and Wildlife Authority had teams on the ground working to control and manage the birds, a tiny species that flocks in huge numbers and so becomes a pest.

“We have teams from our institute and the National Parks and Wildlife Authority that are now involved in quelea bird management in roosting or breeding sites especially in reeds and acacia trees in the Pandamatenga area of Matabeleland North. The birds mostly prefer annual grass seeds but when not available, small grain cereal crops become the target.”

Nyamutukwa urged farmers and the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious flocks.

“Chemical control using Queletox is in progress in areas like Pandamatenga which are known to be breeding and roosting sites for quelea birds. Prospects to use falcon birds as biological control are being explored for use in Africa including Zimbabwe. The outbreak of quelea birds is particularly worrying after most farmers got a bumper millet and sorghum crop.

“Quelea birds also pose a big threat to the country’s winter wheat crop particularly in the Middle Sabi area of Chipinge South where marauding quelea birds have been a problem in the past.”

The country’s winter wheat crop is already established and farmers need to be vigilant.

“Farmers must remain alert to quelea birds as well as other pests that include caterpillars (bollworms Helicoverpa armigera), wheat stem borers (Sesamia inferens), rodents and fungal diseases,” Nyamutukwa said. While all these pests contribute to yield losses, more than 95 percent of any wheat damage is due to quelea birds. Small grain farmers also face challenges with quelea birds with experts saying each bird feeds on average 4g of grain a day but when that tiny number is multiplied by the flock sizes, the extent of the damage can be seen.

“A million birds can result in losses exceeding 40 000 tonnes. Damage is excessive when it’s due to large flocks. Management of quelea birds is therefore critical if intended yields are to be realised,” Nyamutukwa said.

Quelea birds were reported to be wreaking havoc in Nyamandlovu and Bubi farming areas in Matabeleland North where they are devouring small grains. Farmers were reported to be having a torrid time clanging metal objects and chasing away the tiny but heavy feasting birds.

The red-billed quelea is a small weaver bird native to sub-Saharan Africa and renowned for its attacks on small-grain crops within Africa. It is the most numerous bird species in the world, with a peak post-breeding population estimated at 1,8 billion. Nomadic super-colonies can grow to millions of birds, making quelea not only the most abundant bird in the world but also the most destructive to cereal grains, especially sorghum and millets as well as wheat, rice and barley.

BRUTALITY BACKFIRES AS ZIM COURT ORDERS MATANGA AND KAZEMBE TO PAY US$10 000 TO COUPLE ASSAULTED DURING 2019 ANTI-GOVT PROTESTS

A Zimbabwean court has ordered Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga and Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Hon. Kazembe Kazembe to pay more than US$10 000 to a couple that was roughed up by some law enforcement agents while claiming to be suppressing an anti-government protest in 2019.

Harare Magistrate Winfilda Tiyatara on Friday 25 June 2021 ordered Matanga and Hon. Kazembe to pay US$5 000 each or its equivalent of RTGS$450 000 each to Canaan Machando and his wife Sipetangani Machando as compensation for violation of their fundamental rights and their property.

In addition, Magistrate Tiyatara ordered Matanga and Hon. Kazembe to pay RTGS$56 800 to Canaan and RTGS$24 000 to Sipetangani as compensation for damages to their mobile phone handsets.

During trial, Canaan and Sipetangani, who were assisted by Fiona Iliff of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights to sue Matanga and Hon. Kazembe, told Magistrate Tiyatara that on 14 January 2019 some ZRP officers together with some soldiers who had been deployed to quell anti-government protests held over a unilateral fuel price hike slapped Sipetangani several times and kicked her in the presence of her two minor children. The police officers and soldiers ordered Canaan to lie flat on his stomach, stepped on him before assaulting
him and also directed him to sit in a bucket full of cold water.

The soldiers and police officers also took Canaan to Mharapara Road, the main road in Unit F high-density suburb in Chitungwiza, where the protests had been taking place and directed him to remove burning tyres from the streets and in the process he sustained some burns on his hands.

As a result of the assault and ill-treatment, Canaan sustained injuries to his back, thighs, eardrum and had to seek medical attention and he was unable to work as a result of his medical condition and suffered loss of income.

The ZRP officers broke Sipetangani’s Samsung mobile phone handset valued at RTGS$24 000 while one of the police officers threw teargas canisters inside their house in Unit F high-density suburb in Chitungwiza and damaged a window pane and the floor valued at the cost of RTGS$56 800.

The persecution by ZRP officers forced Sipetengani and her minor children including a visitor out of the house as it was inhabitable for three days because of the teargas and this meant Sipetengani and Canaan were unable to work for several days.

In her ruling, Magistrate Tiyatara said Sipetengani and Canaan and their children suffered emotional pain and suffering, trauma and shock from the incident and the couple was humiliated and embarrassed by the indignity of being forced out of their home owing to misconduct by police officers.

Magistrate Tiyatara said the conduct of ZRP officers complained of by Canaan and Sipetengani was unlawful and there was no legal justification whatsoever for them to have conducted themselves in such a wayward manner.

The Magistrate also ruled that the actions of the ZRP officers was so indiscriminate, unwarranted and unnecessary and their conduct falls short of the duty of care that the police service has towards civilians.

He said the three illegal miners are trapped underground at Camperdown mine which belongs to Zimasco.

Mr Shangwa said the mine was now disused but illegal miners have been finding their way into it and stealing gold ore.

He said mining experts were working flat out to reach the miners.

“Rescue teams are working flat out to reach the trapped miners,” said Mr Shangwa.

Prophet In Soup For Forcing Minor Into Marriage

By A Correspondent- The 15 year old girl went to the prophet because she had a headache, but he saw her as a wife.

The girl found herself trapped in a strange house being traded by her gogo into ukuthwala.

She’s been saved but it is not known to what extent she has already suffered!

Child activist Petros Majola is calling for a harsh sentence for a prophet (50) accused of attempting to marry a 15-year-old girl through ukuthwala and allegedly forcing the underage girl to have se_x with him.

“We rescued the girl from the prophet after we were tipped off by the community of Coza in Nyandeni about this forced marriage,” Petros of Khula Community Development told Daily Sun.

The girl was rescued on Tuesday morning by Petros and cops in Libode a day before the lobola negotiations.

“According to the girl who was doing grade 7 she went to the prophet when she had a headache, instead he abducted her. She has been staying for days with the prophet performing housewife duties, allegedly including se_x.

Petros said the prophet and the girl’s gogo were arranging the forced marriage.

“This coming weekend the girl’s family was going to enter into lobola negotiations with the prophet,” said Petros.

“Apparently the prophet said he had dreams that he should marry this girl. Gogo agreed as the girl’s mum lives in Joburg.”

Petros rejected the prophet’s dream.

“We’ve learnt that this was his third victim using the same trick.”

Petros said arranged or forced marriages are a threat to young girls.

“Parents make the arrangements and find in-laws for their children,” he said

A relative of the child who alerted the cops said: “The gogo of the girl was pushed by her younger sister to arrange this marriage to get money.” She said the girl has mental health problems.

“Her sister recruited her into this church claiming that she would be healed by the prophet. The lobola negotiations were supposed to start on Wednesday and gogo was told to ask for six cows.”

Brigadier Kinana confirmed that a girl (15) was abducted about two weeks ago.

“It’s alleged that the marriage was arranged by the suspect believed to be a church leader aged 50 and the grandmother, aged 66,” said Kinana.

“A case of abduction and rap_e were opened for further investigation. Two suspects have been bust, and one of them is believed to be the grandmother to the child.”

He said the victim has been kept in a place of safety.

The suspects are expected to appear in court once they’re charged.

Odzi Man Kills Colleague For Having An Extra Marital Affair With Own Wife

By A Correspondent- An Odzi man in Arda Transau, Manicaland province, is in trouble after killing his workmate at a gold mine for allegedly having an extra-marital affair with his wife.

Hamabungu Nherere (37), from village 6 in Odzi, yesterday appeared before High Court judge Justice Isaac Muzenda facing a murder charge.

Nherere, who is being represented by Brian Majamanda, was this week granted $50 000 bail.

He will be back in court on July 18.

It is the State’s case that the accused and the now-deceased, who is not named in the court papers, were workmates at Chikanga Gold Mine in Odzi.

The State alleges that the accused on May 30, 2021 went to the now-deceased’s residence at the mine where he accused him of having an extra-marital affair with his wife.

He assaulted him using fists and open hands.

The accused allegedly went on to pick a wooden log and hit the complainant on the left rib.

The now-deceased suffered severe injuries and was rushed to Victoria Chitepo Hospital, where he died on admission.

Matanga, Kazembe Ordered To Pay US$10 000 To Couple Roughed Up By State Agents

EXCLUSIVE: Harare Council Security Boss In Firearm Possession Storm

By Own Correspondent| The Harare Municipality Chief Security Officer Collen Tongowona is in the eye of a storm after his son was found in a possession of the municipality’s service   firearms but the case was trivialized.

A letter addressed to Head Public Safety  from the Chief Traffic Officer one M Chimombe  states that on  10th June at Warren Park  Police  Station  a complaint was lodged that Collen Tongowona (Junior ) pointed a firearm at the yet to be identified complainant.

Investigation carried out by ZRP Homicide found out the firearm which was used belonged to the Harare Municipality security boss.

“The ZRP Homicide section  investigated  the matter and proved that Mr C Tongowona(senior)was in possession of 2 pistols namely SM Pistol Serial  No 31337 which was used by the son to commit the offence which was heard at the Magistrate Court CRB 5819/21.

“Detective Sergeant Chindove of ZRP  Homicide Section  confirmed the findings,” states the letter.

It has since been established that the Harare   security boss violated the provisions of the law by illegally possessing the firearms without relevant specific firearm certificate.

The Chief Traffic Officer further   says the case shows negligence on the part of Tongowona.

“It is cause of concern that the head of security does not take the Firearms Act precepts seriously including compliance with Standard Operational Procedures for storage of such  a deadly weapon .

“Mr C Tongowona’s residence is not a designated   council premise  to secure the organizational ammunition,” wrote Chimombe.

The Chief Traffic Officer is now being harassed to change his position on the report, sources allege .

This publication found that the   Collen  Tongowona Junior was given community service for the death threats he made.

A prominent Harare lawyer who spoke to this publication  , said it was suspicious that such a case got such a lesser sentence.

“This is just another case of trivializing serious crimes pointing a firearm at someone is a huge crime which warrants a custodial sentence and I think money could have changed hands there,

“The father should have also answered for his gross negligence and it should be established whether both  firearms were  licensed and does his son’s   name appear on who should legally possess the firearms.

“Cases like this need thorough investigation to avoid them recurring again and again,”” said the lawyer who requested anonymity .

Govt Moves To Grab Council Clinics

Government is in the process of taking over all health facilities owned by local authorities as part of a grand plan to ensure  standardised service delivery as envisaged by the National Development Strategy 1, Parliament heard yesterday.

Vice President Constantino Chiwenga told legislators that most health facilities owned by local authorities were charging pregnant women and juveniles under five user fees in defiance of a standing health policy.

VP Chiwenga, who is also the Minister of Health and Child Care said his Ministry was in the process of recruiting provincial medical directors for Harare and Bulawayo.

He said this in the National Assembly while responding to a motion moved by Bulawayo Proportional Representation legislator Dr Thokozani Khupe who bemoaned the continued charging of user fees by health centres despite a Government policy against that.

The Vice President said health facilities were supposed to help pregnant women deliver for free before submitting their claims to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development for reimbursement.

“To ensure implementation of National Development Strategy 1 on health and well-being, the Ministry of Health and Child Care is in the process of absorbing into the mainstream, all local authorities health delivery platforms which include clinics, polyclinics, rural hospitals and infectious disease hospitals.

“In this regard, the Ministry is in the process of filling the gaps of provincial medical directors for Harare and Bulawayo Metropolitan provinces reporting directly to the Ministry.

“This will standardise the provision of health service delivery among other things addressing both the welfare of health workers and Government user fee position,” said VP Chiwenga.

He said PMDs would be focal persons working with Ministers of State for Provinces and the Provincial Development Coordinator to push the devolution agenda.

He said the Ministry had just crafted the Health Development Strategy for 2021 to 2025 which would ensure equitable health delivery to everyone

VP Chiwenga chronicled the historical background regarding the policy on no user fee and noted that while Government had directed that there should be no user fees in district rural clinics, they were charging card, consultation, drug, security and development fees among others.

It was also noted that some health facilities were also demanding non monetary charges in the form of commodities such as maize, chicken and goats for services given to pregnant women.

AFM Founding President Loses Legal Battle

By A Correspondent- The Apostolic Faith Mission (AFM) in Zimbabwe’s founding president, Enos Manyika has lost his legal battle in which he sought an order barring the current president Reverend Amon Madawo from using the church’s registered name.

Manyika, through his lawyers Mathonsi Ncube Law Chambers, recently filed an urgent chamber application at the Bulawayo High Court seeking an order interdicting the Rev Madawo faction from using the registered name of the church.

Manyika argued that it has caused the creation of a parallel constitution, which is separate from the one registered and filed with the Registrar of Deeds.

However, Bulawayo High Court judge, Justice Christopher Dube-Banda dismissed Manyika’s application, saying it was not urgent.

He ruled:

In the result, the point in limine on urgency is upheld. This application is not urgent and is removed from the roll of urgent matters.

Justice Dube-Banda ordered Manyika to pay the legal costs incurred by the respondents. He said:

The applicant is the person behind the litigation. This is one of the cases where this court will not hesitate to exercise its discretion in awarding costs on a legal practitioner and client scale.

The costs of this application to be borne by the applicant in his personal capacity on a legal practitioner and client scale.

The judge ruled that Manyika was merely trying to hoodwink the court and challenge the decision of the Supreme Court hiding under the name of the church. Said Justice Dube-Banda

In casu, it is clear that the applicant (Dr Manyika) is conducting his own litigation masquerading as the church. He has no authority from the church to institute these proceedings.

In fact, he is aware of the High Court and Supreme Court judgments in respect of this dispute, which has since been resolved by the courts.

A litigant cannot be permitted to recycle the same dispute before the court. This court cannot countenance such conduct because once the Supreme Court has spoken, a litigant cannot be permitted to bring the same issue, in whatever name, before this court.

The battle to control AFM started in 2018, resulting in the emergence of two rival camps.

One faction was led by Rev Madawo, the church’s former secretary and the other by Rev Cossam Chiangwa who was the church’s former deputy president.

The dispute between the two camps spilled into the Supreme Court after a group led by Rev Chiangwa filed an appeal against a High Court order which gave Rev Madawo’s faction blessings to lead the church.

The Supreme Court handed Rev Madawo’s camp victory recently after it upheld a previous High Court decision and agreed that a 2018 meeting that purported to change the leadership was void.-statemedia

“Zanu PF Will Not Allow Diaspora Vote” – Will Not Escape “Caesar Caesaris esse non dubitat!”

By Wilbert Mukori- In September 2018, just weeks after being sworn in as President of Zimbabwe, Mnangagwa was in New York, USA to attend the annual UN General Assembly heads of state and government jamboree where each leader is allocated a slot to crow.

In all 37 years of Zanu PF rule, Robert Mugabe had never allowed a cabinet meeting to go ahead unless he was there to chair it and, as one can well imagine, the dictator had never allowed anyone else to the UN jamboree! Mnangagwa was not going to miss his first chance to occupy centre stage together with other world leaders.

The fly in the ailment for Mnangagwa was his legitimacy. All the election observers with any democratic credentials worth a spit had condemned Zimbabwe’s 31st July 2018 as a farce. And the elections were indeed a farce.

The regime had denied some 3 million or so Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote; a very significant number considering Mnangagwa was declared the winner with 2.4 million votes. The regime had, yet again, failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll, etc., etc.

Following the November military coup that had topple Robert Mugabe, Mnangagwa and his fellow coup plotters had promised to hold free, fair and credible elections. How can the elections be lawful, free, fair and credible when more people are denied the vote than the winning candidate?

How can Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa be the legitimate President of Zimbabwe when he clearly does not the mandate of the people of Zimbabwe because the July 2018 elections were not legal, free, fair and credible?

The UN is a ruled based organisation and to be a respected member of the UN one must live by its founding rules.

“Article 21

  1. Everyone has the right to take part in the government of his country, directly or through freely chosen representatives.
  1. Everyone has the right of equal access to public service in his country.
  1. The will of the people shall be the basis of the authority of government; this will shall be expressed in periodic and genuine elections which shall be by universal and equal suffrage and shall be held by secret vote or by equivalent free voting procedures.”

States Article 21 of the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR).

By failing to hold legal, free, fair and credible elections, Mnangagwa was flouting the UN rules. As much as he wanted to hobnob with other world leaders and to be treated as their equal, he must have known he was nothing but the naked Emperor in Hans Christian Andersen’s tale, ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’.

CNN and many other free world media houses could not resist reminding the naked Mnangagwa of his democratic deficiencies. Before he left New York, Mnangagwa announce that Zimbabweans in the diaspora will have their right to vote restored by the next elections!

At the time, some of us expressed our doubts on Mnangagwa’s sincerity and willingness to deal with this thorny issue of diaspora vote. After all he had promised to hold free, fair and credible elections, stamp out corruption and many, many other things after the November 2017 military coup but had never honoured any of these promises for the simple reason that doing so would risk Zanu PF losing its iron grip on power. The party has since confirmed the doubters right.

“If you want a diaspora vote, first level the playing field by removing sanctions, so that Zanu-PF can go there and campaign freely without being vetted against sanctions,” announced Zanu PF Acting Political Commissar, Patrick Chinamasa.

“We will not allow those in the diaspora the right to vote because we are under sanctions in those countries.

“I cannot go to campaign in the United Kingdom because of sanctions as we all know and as long as that situation persists, we will say no vote to people in the diaspora because we will be allowing only those who have been asking for sanctions to have access to that electorate.”

All nonsense, of course! Zimbabweans in the diaspora did not impose the sanctions and so why are they being punished for something they did not do. In any case, there are millions of Zimbabweans in SADC and other countries that have not imposed any sanctions of Zanu PF leaders, why are they too being denied the vote?

The truth is Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF friends do not recognise the right to a meaningful say in the governance of one’s country, as articulated in Article 21 of the UN’s UDHR, as an inalienable right that cannot and must never ever be denied without due legal process. Sadly Zanu PF thugs are not alone in this!

Nelson Chamisa and his fellow MDC leaders has paid lip service to call for diaspora vote, a verified voters’ roll and all the other democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections. Chamisa and company had failed to implement even one reform to ensure diaspora vote, etc. even when they had the golden opportunity to do so during the 2008 to 2013 GNU.

Worse still, Chamisa et al have been participating in elections knowing fully well that Zanu PF has arbitrarily and illegally denied Zimbabweans in the diaspora the vote, failed to produce a verified voters’ roll, etc., etc.; proof the opposition too consider the right to free, fair and credible elections a privilege and not an inalienable right!

Indeed, the right to a meaningful say in the governance of one’s country, article 21, is the most important and precious of all the freedoms and rights in the UN UDHR because without it, we have failed to secure and guarantee the other 29.

“Seek ye first the political kingdom, and all else shall be added unto you”, said Ghana’s first president, Dr Kwame Nkrumah. He was right!

The right to a meaningful say in the governance of one’s country; the right to legal, free, fair and credible elections; is worth risking everything for, including one’s very life. While we live here on earth, the right to free, fair and credible elections, is the “one pearl of great price” we must all seek!

“Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking beautiful pearls, who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had and bought it.”

Matthew 13:45-46

It is as clear as day that there are many like Robert Mugabe, Emmerson Mnangagwa and many others in Zanu PF who would want us to believe they who risked it all in the fight to end white colonial oppression and exploitation for freedom and human dignity for all Zimbabweans. We now know better; they risked it all so they can take the place of the white colonial oppressors and became the new oppressors.

Emmerson Mnangagwa and his Zanu PF cronies do not believe in extending the freedoms and rights articulated in the UN UDHR to the majority of Zimbabweans no more than Ian Smith and his Rhodesia Front white racists did.

Still, one is persuaded to believe there, in very generation, there have been, are and will be true blood liberation heroes and heroines, black and white, before and after independence, who have fought to end the oppression regardless its racial source. These are the true blood heroes and heroines to whom we owe a great debt of gratitude for risking all for freedom and human dignity. We will let them down if we allowed these Zanu PF thugs continue to ride roughshod over us and deny us our freedoms and rights.

Besides, we owe it to ourselves and posterity to boldly demand our freedoms and rights.

“Zanu PF will not allow those in the diaspora the right to vote!” The right to a meaningful vote is THE one pearl of great price the nation has risked all to secure no one, especially the vote rigging Zanu PF, has no power or authority to take that right away.

If the 3 millionZimbabweans in the diaspora are denied the vote then the 2023 elections cannot be legal, free, fair and credible. And, this time, Zanu PF will not be allowed to get away with a rigged elections; Zanu PF will be illegitimate and will not be allowed to get away with illegitimacy!

The president of Zimbabwe must be have the mandate of the people of Zimbabwe expressed through legal, free, fair and credible elections and must never have his power, authority and stature tinted by suspicion of rigged elections.

“Caesar Caesaris esse non dubitat!” (Caesar must be Caesar without shadowing it with doubts!) as the Romans so aptly put it!

Freelance Journalist Challenges Fine For Contravening Covid-19 Curfew

Harare Magistrate Barbra Mateko has ordered the Officer In Charge of Marimba Police Station to investigate and provide her with information in relation to how freelance journalist Edgar Gweshe was compelled to pay RTGS$500 fine for allegedly contravening curfew regulations and yet he was arrested before 10:PM, which was the scheduled curfew time when people were restricted from moving around unnecessarily.

Gweshe was arrested on 12 June 2021 and detained overnight at Marimba Police Station and was released on 13 June 2021 after paying RTGS$500 fine.

Through his lawyer Tinashe Chinopfukutwa of Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights, Gweshe wrote a letter to the Provincial Magistrate at Harare Magistrates Court protesting and arguing that he was arrested at 8:PM way before 10:PM, which was the scheduled curfew early in June.

The freelance journalist says he had refused to pay the fine after explaining his circumstances before his arrest to some ZRP officers but he ended up paying the RTGS$500 fine under protest and desperation to regain his freedom and dignity which had been violated for several hours by ZRP officers who did not allow him access to food and water and to call his lawyers while in detention.

Gweshe was only allowed access to water around 3:PM on 13 June 2021.Mateko said judicial officers at Harare Magistrate Court are conducting investigations into Gweshe’s complaint for them to assess whether they can proceed in terms of section 356 of the Criminal Procedure and Evidence Act, which provides for the setting aside of Gweshe’s conviction and to be refunded once a judicial officer is satisfied that the freelance journalist should not have been convicted.

Maskiri Brews Another Storm

By A Correspondent- Uburn groove musician Maskiri, whose real name is Alicious Masimbe’s single Mbinga from Binga has sparked debate on social media with several topics to discuss.

The major topic was about the reignited story of Tapiwa Makore, a young boy who made headlines after his corpse was buried without a head.

Some felt the rapper’s lyrics with the line: “…handina musoro kunge Tapiwa Makore..” were disrespectful to the dead and the grieving Makore family.

Though some were angered by the line, some defended it as a way of expressing how the system failed Makore’s family.

Maskiri, however, explained his line about Tapiwa when contacted by H-Metro.

“This is figurative language. Tapiwa was found without a head, and it pained me too. My heart bleeds for Tapiwa.

“In music, especially rap which has figurative language and anecdotes to present your art and expression, some people might not understand you.

“And also music had no boundaries when expressing your feelings,” said Maskiri.

Broke Mnangagwa Administration Forces Patients To Bring Own Blankets To Hospital

Tinashe Sambiri|The broke administration led by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa has instructed patients to bring their own linen and blankets to hospitals for admission.

According to sources at Sadza Hospital, patients have been instructed to bring their own linen and blankets as the laundry machine is not working.

Government has no money to repair the machine.

The MDC Alliance Alliance has bemoaned the pathetic state of the public health system in Zimbabwe:

“Patients at Sadza Hospital have reportedly been ordered to bring their own linen and blankets for admission because the laundry machine at the institution has not worked since 2020.

The public health crisis is but a symptom of the bad governance disease that plagues Zanu PF,” the MDC Alliance said in a statement.

Government Says Unvaccinated Health Workers Will Not Receive Compensation

Unvaccinated health workers who contract Covid-19 in the line of duty after July 14 will no longer receive special compensation which the Government has been paying those affected, while the 80 percent who have been vaccinated remain covered if they fall sick.

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa said after yesterday’s Cabinet meeting that the Government had been paying US$1 000 and US$600 depending on grade for each health worker who falls sick but now those who remain unvaccinated are considered a health threat to colleagues and patients.

Last week, Treasury released $75 million towards the compensation.

Of the 4 444 health workers so far infected,432 have already received their payouts.

The Health Services Board (HSB) has approved the payments to another 2 196 with funds already allocated able to cover about 1 367 workers so further allocations are required.

“Noting that the frontline staff were given an opportunity to vaccinate ahead of others, the nation is advised that a considerable number of frontline workers, 20 percent, have still not presented themselves for vaccination,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.- The Herald

Taxi Drivers Block Vic Falls With Colleague’s Coffin

By A Correspondent- Business came to a standstill in Victoria Falls on Monday when a funeral cortège made up of scores of taxi drivers blocked roads as they mourned their colleague who died in car accident on Friday.

Commuters were stranded on Mondays when all taxis were withdrawn from the road as drivers attended Emmanuel Thunywa’s burial.

Thunywa, a popular taxi driver in the resort town, died on the spot on his 30th birthday when he lost control of his vehicle which overturned in Chidobe.

He had just gotten married to Ms Tapiwa Hikwa.
His two cousins Prince Mlilo and Ivonn Dube survived with injuries.
It was an emotional send-off as friends, relatives and taxi drivers mourned Thunywa.
Burial service was held at a local parlour where hundreds of people turned up, disregarding Covid-19 regulations restricting funeral gatherings to 30 people.
Some followed proceedings from outside the funeral parlour’s chapel in observance of social distancing.

From the parlour, taxis lined up as they trickled into the main road, driving to Moringa in Mkhosana before driving back to Chinotimba past Victoria Falls Hospital, Chinotimba Rank and Emaplankeni, the places where Thunywa operated from.
People stood on the road sides and outside houses to witness the emotional procession accompanied by hooting of cars.
For some minutes even the Hwange-Victoria Falls highway was blocked at the Mkhosana turn-off to allow easy passage by the cortège.
Taxi drivers said Thunywa’s death came as a shock.
Victoria Falls Taxis Association chairperson Mr Admire Dube said it was a blow to the industry.
“We are pained by losing a brother especially dying on his birthday. We are here to show our support and love for him. He was a great man and it is a loss to us. As an association we have resolved that his wife will get free transport whenever she travels around Victoria Falls as a gesture of love and respect for the man we worked with,” he said.
A resident Mr Praymore Ncube of Mfelandawonye said: “We are touched by what happened. There was no transport in the morning but we understand because taxi drivers were mourning their colleague.”
Mrs Margaret Mutongola said she waited for 45 minutes at the bus stop before she was told that there were no taxis. She said she had to walk to the city centre
