The ZRP has confirmed a fatal road traffic accident that occurred on August 10, 2024, at around 10:00 AM along Sam Nujoma Street, opposite Banc ABC, central Harare.

A Toyota Hilux double cab, carrying three passengers, struck four pedestrians who were crossing the road.

Two of the pedestrians died at the scene, while the other two sustained injuries.

The bodies of the deceased were transported to Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals for post-mortem examination, and the injured individuals were also taken to the hospital for treatment.

On Tuesday, Zanu PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa pledged to address the issues faced by Zimbabwe’s Defence Forces.

However, political analysts argue that Mnangagwa’s statement is a reflection of empty promises aimed at placating discontent within the military.

In his statement, Mnangagwa remarked:

“Today marks 44 years of unwavering service by the Zimbabwe Defence Forces in safeguarding our peace, unity, and progress.

Their dedication is vital to achieving Vision 2030 and national development.

We salute their efforts and our strong ties with regional and global allies.

Under the Second Republic, we’re committed to improving the welfare of our Defence Forces, ensuring they remain a cornerstone of our nation’s growth.

Long live our Defence Forces, long live Zimbabwe!”

By A Correspondent| A South African non-governmental organisation Save Our Girls has accused Zimbabwean tycoon Kudakwashe Tagwirei of funding media activities of controversial political activist Rutendo Matinyarare who is in the eye of a storm over reckless social media posts where he glorified paedophiles.

In their papers deposted at the South African High Court, Save Our Girls cited Matinyarare and Tagwirei as respondents with the latter dragged into the matter because of his role in funding the former’s media activities.

In one of his controversial posts, Matinyarare said; “When you date 16-year-olds you get the bonus of also smashing their mums when you are feeling like mature wine.”

He followed up with another tweet,” Tender and impressionable, Still having dreams before being abused by bad boys.”

When a South African woman by the name of Pumzile responded,” I am the mother of a 10-year-old girl. She clearly isnt safe with the likes of you around,” Matinyarare replied, “When she gets to 16 let me know.”

Chnyanya who filed the case against Matinyarare said his words are chilling words. especially to the parents of 16-year-olds.

By A Correspondent| President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s campaigner Rutendo Matinyarare is in hot soup over his reckless remarks that encouraged men to hit on under-age girls.

In a video that was widely circulated on social media, Matinyarare is heard saying he loves women and has failed to say no to under-age girls who seduced him.

“I love women, infact i love them so much that dont know how to control myself around them, i have been seduced by 16 year-olds, so a child has just grown out of maturity they come as a little gang to visit ubhudhi in the complex and they seduce you and when you are supposed to say no, you dont say no, i have been there,” said Matinyarare.

Now an NGO named Save our Girls has launched a case in the South African High Court citing social media posts by Matinyarare where he said, “If you date 16-year-olds you get the bonus of also smashing their mums when you are feeling like mature wine.”

Meanwhile, Save Our Girls has also cited tycoon Kudakwashe Tagwirei as a respondent saying he is the one who is funding Matinyarare’s media activities.

Matinyarare has since responded to the news article denying any links with Tagwirei.

“I am yet to be served with these papers and i am unsure why Kuda Tagwirei is being cited as the funder of what is being labelled my propaganda when i have never met Tagwirei,” he said.

It is my great honour and privilege to address you
all at these 44th Heroes Day Commemorations.
Today, we are joining hands in remembering our
gallant fighters who paid the supreme sacrifice
to free our beautiful motherland from the grip of
colonial domination and subjugation.
Their extraordinary courage and the risks they
took so that we are Independent will always be
remembered. For, it was they who helped shape
our nation.
Even in the midst of neo-colonial machinations
and illegal sanctions imposed on us, let us honour
our heroes with a promise that their sacrifices
will serve as our light and inspiration. We vow to
resolutely protect the integrity of our Independence
and the interests of our nation against those who
wish us to fail.

Ladies and Gentlemen;
Our resilience is the bedrock of our survival as a
nation. As such, and against all odds, our economy
continues to register positive growth. This bears
testimony to the success of our diversification
thrust, as we forge ahead despite the illegal
sanctions, climate-induced shocks as well as
international commodity price fluctuations.

Through complementarity between fiscal
and monetary policies, we are determined to
consolidate the gains so far achieved from the
price stability brought about by the Zimbabwe
Gold (ZiG) currency.

We are honouring the fighting spirit of our
gallant sons and daughters through increased
performance of the agriculture sector. In the
midst of the El Nino induced drought, our
winter wheat cropping season continues to score
remarkable successes. A record 121 982 hectares of wheat have been planted this season. Further,
my Government has already commenced rolling
out preparations for the 2024/2025 summer
cropping season, which is expected to restore food
security through increased production, on the back
of massive irrigation infrastructure rehabilitation,
expansion and utilisation.

Meanwhile, Government is providing social
protection for vulnerable communities and
households to ensure that no one starves.

Fellow Zimbabweans;
Our mining sector continues to benefit from
investment into new and existing projects.
I exhort players in the sector to ensure that we
derive maximum benefits from the precious
minerals, which our heroes fought for, by value
adding and beneficiating them.

The role of the energy and power sector in socioeconomic development through industrialisation
cannot be over-emphasised. Low power
production levels at Kariba Power Station are
being offset by the Hwange 7 & 8 expansion
project, which now feeds a constant supply
to the national grid. Among numerous power
augmentation projects, two large solar plants
with a total capacity of 250 megawatts are being
developed and will soon be commissioned.

Our manufacturing sector is expanding value
addition and beneficiation activities. This has
seen manufacturing capacity utilisation increasing
to 53%, and the creation of jobs which are yielding
decent livelihoods.

Micro, small and medium enterprises continue
to scale new heights in promoting women
empowerment and community development, and
are playing a major role in the manufacturing and
commercial sectors.

With a view to enhancing productivity and
competitiveness of micro, small and medium
enterprises, particularly those run by Liberation
Struggle Veterans, the Second Republic is
prioritising workspace provision through
partnerships with Pension Funds, Local Authorities,
the Private Sector and Development Partners. We
have since commissioned several Safe Markets
and Factory Shells across the country.

Government will soon undertake a comprehensive
skills audit which is expected to guide our
investment towards upscaling skills delivery for
optimal national economic performance. The focus
will be on skills required for industrialisation,
business enterprise as well as effective and
efficient delivery of public services to citizens in
modern times.

The devolution and decentralisation programme is
also addressing specific community needs, through
utilising inter-governmental fiscal transfers.

Ladies and Gentlemen;
Infrastructure upgrading and expansion projects
in the transport sector continue to deliver
tremendous results for our roads, bridges and
related infrastructure. Focus has shifted to the
Harare-Chirundu road section, as well as the
upgrading of the Harare-Kanyemba, HarareNyamapanda, the Old Gwanda Road and the
Beitbridge-Bulawayo-Victoria Falls highway,
among others. Remarkable progress is visible at
the Mbudzi Interchange south of Harare.

The Second Republic is fully aware of the
pressing need for decent shelter for all citizens,
hence, the continuing robust investment which is
transforming both urban and rural communities.
The Second Republic has taken the strategic
decision to position the Rural Infrastructure
Development Agency, in all rural districts across
every province.

The Agency is attending to both gravel and surfaced roads, weirs and small dams
for water provision for domestic and agricultural
use, as well as infrastructure support for clinics,
schools and dip tanks.

Our border posts are undergoing transformation,
with physical infrastructure being complemented
by technological innovations. This is enhancing
the movement of goods and people as well as
regional integration.

Earlier this year, the Second Republic relaunched
the Youth Service in Zimbabwe Training
Programme. This marks an important step in
ensuring that young people are patriotic and loyal
citizens, who reconnect with our national history
and identify with the priceless sacrifices of our
liberators. Our centres at Dadaya in Midlands
and Vumba in Manicaland are currently training
over a thousand youths, while vocational training
centres are being modernised with state-of-the-art
machinery and digital technology.

As we celebrate the achievements of our heroes,
the Second Republic is committed to building
a robust health delivery system that ensures the
highest standards of care. Government has to
date equipped 78% of District Hospitals with
fully functional operating theatres for emergency
maternity surgeries. This programme is being
rolled out to cover all similar facilities.
The crusade which we declared against drug and
substance abuse targets a population that is free
from the menace.

Among a plethora of strategies,
Government is focusing on sporting and arts
infrastructure development, including in rural
areas where the majority of our people live.
On that note, the Rafomoyo Multipurpose Court,
which was recently commissioned in Gutu, will
be replicated across all districts.

The safety and security of women and girls in
an independent and free nation is of paramount
importance, hence, we are strengthening ongoing
efforts to prevent gender-based violence. Cases
are being handled swiftly and firmly in order to
deter offenders.

Our priority in the Primary and Secondary school
sub-sector is to ensure access to quality education.
Through inter-agency collaboration, the highest
possible levels of hygiene are being enforced
in order to safeguard health. We are enhancing
public-private partnerships for the purpose of
improving the teaching and learning environment
at all previously disadvantaged schools.
As it was during the liberation struggle, where
cadres used to innovate during the prosecution
of the war, students in the Higher and Tertiary
education sub-sector are taking innovation to new
heights and creating goods, services, jobs and
industries.

Our commitment to the digital technology
revolution is a cornerstone for empowerment as
part of the enhancement of service delivery and
driving economic growth. Hence, Government is
seized with initiatives such as the establishment
of digital hubs in rural areas. This robust ICT
programme is expected to improve healthcare
delivery, boost agricultural productivity and
create numerous opportunities for individuals,
households and communities towards achieving
prosperity.

Fellow Zimbabweans;
The nation for which our gallant sons and daughters
paid the supreme sacrifice is richly endowed
with breath-taking landscapes, pristine wildlife
and a vibrant culture, all of which contribute to
our status as the tourist destination of choice.
Highlighting this, the tourism sector has been
on a rebound.

Recently, we successfully hosted
the United Nations Gastronomy Conference, where our cuisine showcased Zimbabwe at its
best. The United Nations Tourism Organisation
has since approved the setting up of the African
International Culinary Arts Academy in our resort
city of Victoria Falls.

In Harare, the Liberation City will soon take
its place among the biggest man-made tourist
attractions, together with the Museum of African
Liberation from which all progressive nations on
our Continent will tell the story of their arduous
journey to Independence, democracy and freedom.

Fellow Zimbabweans;
Issues related to the welfare and economic
empowerment of Veterans, Widows and War
Victims will continue to be given the attention
they deserve.

In our endeavour to mould lasting national
consciousness that defends, upholds and promotes
our founding values, the Ministry of Information,
Publicity and Broadcasting Services has conducted
research on our fallen heroes.

The Second Republic is aware of the need
to memorialise the Liberation War through
repatriation, reburials and related processes
to bring closure to the families of deceased
Veterans. Apart from well-known bases such
as Freedom Camp, Mkushi, Nyadzonia and
Chimoio, Government is availing resources
towards repatriating and reburying thousands of
Veterans who still lie in shallow and unmarked
graves in and outside the country.
The need to accurately record, document and
preserve the story of the Liberation Struggle
cannot be over-emphasised. There are numerous
records, which are available both in Zimbabwe
and in countries that supported our revolutionary
war. These require collation, annotation and
electronic storage to facilitate ease of retrieval.

The Department of National Archives of Zimbabwe
is also exploring partnerships with families
of nationalists to establish liberation heritage
archives and sites in all the ten provinces of our
Motherland. The Department has also compiled
documentation of liberation heritage narratives,
with special focus on the Kamungoma Massacre
Site in Gutu, Butcher Site in Rusape, and the
former Dzapasi Assembly Point in Buhera, among
others.

The Ministry of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle
Affairs is expected to increase the visibility and
awareness of their programmes, inclusive of the
benefits accruing to our veterans of the liberation
struggle as well as their dependents.

In addition, many injured War Victims should be
registered and compensated appropriately. The
majority of widows of our heroes are not aware
of their benefits, and some children are not in school and do not receive medical attention. We
are, therefore, running awareness campaigns
throughout the country, and requests for assistance
are being received.

Fellow Zimbabweans and Dear Comrades;
Our 44th Heroes Day commemorations are marking
a milestone in that we are conferring medals to
a total of 184 310 Veterans of the Liberation
Struggle who include 56 681 War Veterans; 7 839
Ex-Political Prisoners, Detainees and Restrictees;
110 374 War Collaborators; and 9 990 NonCombatant Cadres. We will also confer honours
and awards to deserving persons as follows:

• the Royal Order of Munhumutapa;
• the Gold Cross of Zimbabwe;
• the Silver Cross of Zimbabwe;
• the Commendation Medal; and
• the Independence Medal.

The conferment of medals on individuals who
exhibited valour and performed distinguished
humanitarian acts in various fields is intended
to immortalise and memorialise the actions of
the individuals. We are also honouring the Black
Umfolosi ensemble for their song “Unity” which
has stood the test of time. The song fosters unity
in recognition of the fact that we are one people
and one nation of Zimbabwe despite our diverse
geographical locations. From Plumtree to Mutare,
from Beitbridge to Chirundu, we are one people,
united by one national flag and one national
anthem.

Fellow Zimbabweans;
Our democratic principles require sufficient
dissemination of the Constitution. It is pleasing
to note that Constitutional advocacy sessions
have now been conducted in all provinces of our
Motherland and cascaded to district level. In May
this year, Government conducted an induction and sensitisation workshop for all Chiefs on
their newly granted role as Marriage Officers.
The Chiefs now have authority to preside over
customary marriages and intervene in inheritance
issues, for the convenience of the general citizenry
in communities.

Our commitment to efficient service delivery is
unwavering. We are entrenching performance
contracting, and the exercise has been completed
at most of our top levels. The ultimate target is to
ensure value for money from all office bearers,
while enhancing accountability to the nation that
we all serve.

Over and above this, the Second Republic
recognises the important role and selfless sacrifices
being made by our patriotic civil service officials
towards the transformation of Zimbabwe into
an industrialising and knowledge-based upper
middle income country.

Fellow Zimbabweans;
In line with our mantra, “a friend to all and an
enemy to none” we continue to form strategic
alliances with our traditional as well as new
partners in both the region and beyond.

Today’s celebrations come a few days before our
hosting of the SADC Summit of Heads of State
and Government, where we will also be assuming
the Chairmanship of our regional body. Build up
events and activities have already commenced,
including the SADC Industrialisation Week
as well as the Standing Committee of Senior
Officials’ Meetings.

I once again take this opportunity to thank
all Zimbabweans for maintaining a peaceful
environment across the length and breadth of
our Motherland. Our brand remains that of a
progressive and loving people who are hospitable
not only to their kith and kin but to all persons
created in the image of the Lord Almighty.

Let us all continue to make our visitors feel at
home away from home, that we are one with
them, and that they shall always be free to visit,
whether on business or on private affairs. That is
the Zimbabwe that our departed liberators whom
we are gathered here to commemorate would have
loved to live in: in harmony and always committed
to the betterment of mankind.

In conclusion, as we celebrate Heroes Day, let
us not take for granted the Independence and
freedom that we are enjoying today, which was
brought about by the sacrifices of the courageous
men and women, who fought against the brutal
racist colonial regime.

I, therefore, call upon every one of us to emulate
their lives through playing our part by laying the
foundations for a more prosperous future for both
present and future generations. Nyika inovakwa,
inotongwa, inonamatigwa nevene vayo/ilizwe lakhiwa, libuswe, likhulekelwe ngabanikazi
balo.

As we honour our National Heroes today, may
we not only look back with admiration at their
profound sense of patriotism but also look at the
future of our country and its unrelenting longing
for the same profound sense of patriotism from us.

To the families of our heroes and heroines,
let me once again commit my Government to
the furtherance of the principles that inspired
thousands to take up arms and liberate this nation.

Our determination to look after your welfare is
unwavering, and we shall always be bound by
the lofty values of Servant Leadership, patriotism
and loyalty as our great nation continues its
relentless march towards the attainment of Vision

2030. As we would chant from the trenches of
      the Struggle, Aluta Continua… the Struggle
      Continues… and Victory is Certain.

May the dear souls of our departed heroes and
heroines rest in eternal peace.

Long live our Unity, Peace and Freedom.
Long live Zimbabwe.

Our heroes day is supposed to be an unforgettable celebration of courage, dedication and
heroism. All Zimbabweans are expected to pay tribute to the extraordinary men and women
who made a lasting impact on our lives. Unfortunately, their courage and dedication brought
no fruit.

Many are regretting in their graves, crying and wondering whether Zimbabwe
(Rhodesia) was better off under white rule? With our freedom we have been breeding
corruption, torture, nepotism, murder and tribalism and selling our country resources at a
price of buy one get three for free.
Under the White rule, they brought agriculture, electricity, literacy, education,
transportation, accountability, a very proud national airline and pretty much all the
technology. Zanu PF destroyed of all that is good and cannot create anything. We had Whites
coming here to colonize and build some sort of civillization, just to be destroyed by the
power of greedy. Zanu PF leadership has paid lip service to all the basic human right
principles our late families, Zanu, Zanala comrades and others fought so hard to achieve.
Democracy, freedom of speech and good governance are ideals that Mr Mnangagwa does
not hold in high regard. Why did our war veterans fought for, then? Ian Smith is laughing at
us in his grave reminding us, of his strong warnings that Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) of tomorrow
will just be left-over remnants from Rhodesia because under Mugabe-Mnangagwa black rule,
nothing will be built!
As much as Zimbabweans don’t want to admit it, it’s true Zimbabwe was better of under
white rule. The only downside with white rule was racial inequality and social injustices
which could have been corrected with time. I’m not saying white people are better than black
people but Zanu PF leadership which took over Zimbabwe after white rule is the one that
has led to the downfall of Zimbabwe. Right now the country has people with great ideas and
some even contributed to the liberation struggle but there are being arrested, imprisoned
and tortured for demanding accountability and a transparent system of governing. Everyone
is crying from war veterans, children and ordinary Zanu PF card carrying members.
Mnangagwa”s government is an example of everything that is wrong with post colonialism
hence the need for them to go in order for us to celebrate the dedication and sacrifice that
was made by our brothers and sisters. Happy Heroes day to our departed comrades but you
died for nothing besides enriching Mnangagwa, his friends and crooked Chivhayo.

Masvingo, Zimbabwe – A 32-year-old man has been arrested in Masvingo for allegedly stabbing his sister’s boyfriend during a heated confrontation. The suspect, identified as Mkondisi Mandava, reportedly became violent after his sister’s boyfriend, Felix Sibanda, accused her of being unfaithful and threatened to assault her.

According to a police statement released on the social media platform X, the incident escalated quickly when Sibanda, 42, confronted Mandava’s sister with accusations of infidelity. The situation turned physical when Mandava intervened, attempting to defend his sister. The police reported that Mandava head-butted Sibanda on the forehead during the altercation, which further inflamed the situation.

As tensions escalated, Mandava allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Sibanda multiple times on the thighs. The assault left Sibanda with serious injuries, prompting immediate police involvement. Authorities were quick to apprehend Mandava following the attack.

The police statement highlighted the severity of the incident, noting that the violent outburst was sparked by the ongoing dispute between Sibanda and Mandava’s sister. The situation deteriorated after Sibanda not only accused his girlfriend of having an affair but also threatened to harm her, which seemingly provoked Mandava’s aggressive response.

Sibanda was rushed to a nearby hospital where he is receiving treatment for his injuries. The extent of his injuries has not been disclosed, but authorities have confirmed that he is in stable condition. Mandava is currently in police custody and is expected to face charges related to the assault.

The police have urged the public to resolve domestic disputes through dialogue and to avoid resorting to violence. They emphasized the importance of seeking mediation in conflicts to prevent such incidents from occurring. The case is ongoing, and further details will be provided as the investigation continues.

6 Years After Unfulfilled Swimming Pool Flats in Mbare, Mnangagwa Makes New Pledge of 3,000 Housing Units for Defence Forces

Harare, Zimbabwe – In a striking development that has raised eyebrows across the nation, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has announced plans to construct 3,000 housing units for members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces (ZDF). This latest promise comes on the heels of a notorious unfulfilled pledge made six years ago, where Mnangagwa promised to build swimming pool-equipped flats in Mbare—a promise that never saw the light of day.

The President’s recent announcement, part of a broader initiative to improve the welfare of Defence Forces personnel, includes a range of non-monetary incentives such as Civil Service Housing Loans and Vehicle Purchase schemes. Additionally, the government has reportedly expanded the transport fleet for the Defence Forces, though details on the execution of these promises remain vague.

“An array of strategies are under way to improve the welfare of members of our Defence Forces,” Mnangagwa declared. “Over and above housing units that are ready for occupation, Government will soon be embarking on the construction of 3,000 housing units for members of the ZDF. This is part of the comprehensive programme by my Administration to increase affordable housing stock throughout the country.”

However, many Zimbabweans are skeptical, viewing this new pledge as yet another empty promise. The 2018 commitment to build modern flats in Mbare, complete with swimming pools, was met with widespread skepticism at the time and has since been branded as a blatant falsehood. Despite repeated assurances, the project never materialized, leaving many to question the authenticity of the government’s promises.

The Zimbabwe People First (ZimPF) condemns the tyrannical behavior of Zimbabwe
government, lead by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and we are asking him to
stop denying citizens their fundamental rights just to please SADC.
Our Prisons are full of Political Prisoners being denied bail on frivolous and
malicious charges. It is clear that the Unconstitutional appointment of Chief Justice
Malaba by President Mnangagwa, was made in order to undermine the
independence of the judiciary, instill fear and threaten citizen’s rights.
The targeting of civil society, arresting of political activist, torturing of innocent
citizens and severe restrictions on political activity have stifled fundamental
freedoms, while the likes of Mike Chimombe, Wicknell Chivayo and others, including
government leaders, are siphoning public resources for personal gains through
goat schemes.
As ZimPF we are concerned and unhappy that to silence the dissenting voices and to
stamp out possible demonstrations violence, torture, and abductions seem to be
the only options deployed. Zimbabwe is going through difficult political and socio-
economic conditions. Civil society actors fill in important gaps in supporting
communities enjoy basic rights through provision of humanitarian support and
empowering communities for civic engagement and participating in democratic
processes. Safeguarding the civic space is essential for Civil Society Organizations
(CSOs) to organize, participate and communicate without hindrance.
We demand that the government of Zimbabwe, by exercise their rights responsibly,
stop harassment of citizens, and we call for a restraint of torturing innocent
activists.

The investigation reveals that the real Ruth Hwara, who was portrayed as gravely ill and in urgent need of surgery, has never set foot in Zimbabwe during this period. Instead, she is living comfortably in the United Kingdom, far removed from the dire situation described in the fundraising efforts.

For the past two months, the campaign has successfully raised more than USD 100,000 from sympathetic donors worldwide. The narrative told to the public was heart-wrenching: a young woman from Zimbabwe, suffering from a severe medical condition, desperately needed surgery in India. However, ZimEye’s detailed audit and investigation show that the person depicted in the campaign’s images is not Ruth Hwara, and the real Ruth is actually an England-based woman who orchestrated this elaborate scam alongside her brother, who resides in Baldivis, Perth, Australia.

A Web of Lies Unraveled

The first cracks in this deceptive story appeared when ZimEye began scrutinizing the statements made by the woman claiming to be Ruth Hwara’s mother. On Saturday morning, outside Avenues Clinic in Harare, where she claimed her daughter was hospitalized, this woman made several statements that would later prove contradictory and misleading. She asserted:

1. Her daughter was not grounded due to financial issues.
2. Ruth could not travel to India for the operation because of a swelling in her stomach that required draining.
3. None of the funds raised had been misappropriated.
4. Of the USD 45,000 (£37,000) raised, USD 20,000 had been withdrawn and was held by her nephew, Felix Machingambi, in a Zimbabwean bank account.

In a recorded interview with ZimEye, Ruth’s mother claimed, “My daughter is not stranded because of money. We are only waiting for her condition to stabilize so she can travel. The money is safe and being handled by trustworthy family members.”

However, as the day progressed, Ruth’s mother changed her story, raising immediate red flags. In a subsequent conversation, she denied that Felix had received any money, contradicting her earlier statements. This inconsistency prompted ZimEye to dig deeper, revealing a tangled web of deceit.

On Saturday evening, Felix Machingambi, speaking in a live video discussion with several participants, including the socialite known as ‘King Solomon,’ vehemently denied any significant involvement in the GofundMe campaign. “I had nothing to do with the money,” Felix stated. “My only role was to create and distribute a flyer. I never received a single cent from the GofundMe, and I am not related to Ruth’s mother as she claimed.”

13 people have been confirmed dead in two road accidents that occurred on Friday evening in Masvingo and Gokwe.

Zimbabwe Republic Police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the two accidents.

In Masvingo, seven people were confirmed dead while 99 others were injured along the Masvingo-Zano road.

The accident involved a Chikozho bus which was travelling from Masvingo to Topora carrying 105 passangers. It is said that the bus failed to negotiate a steep gradient and overturned. The injured ones have been taken to Mogenster and Masvingo general hospitals.

The other accident occurred along the Gokwe-Siabuwa road where a Nissan Sulphy collided head on with a Nissan AD van and six people died on the spot, three from each vehicle.

Eight people were injured and were taken to Gokwe General Hospital for medical attention.

Richard Tsvangirai, Member of Parliament for Norton Constituency, has voiced strong criticism of what he calls pervasive corruption within the town council.

Tsvangirai condemned an official named Gutsa at the Norton Town House for obstructing his scheduled program.

“Norton Town Council is failing to fulfill its mandate due to the corruption and incompetence of its officials,” Tsvangirai stated.

“After Gutsa assured me that I could use Ngoni Stadium on August 12, I received an email saying the ground was booked.

This situation needs to be addressed immediately!”

Additionally, Tsvangirai’s soccer tournament was blocked by the police, who cited inadequate security as the reason.

“It is unfortunate that our soccer and netball tournament, planned for August 12, 2024, has been canceled.

ZRR Norton has cited a lack of manpower as the reason, marking the second event we have had to cancel in less than two months,” Tsvangirai added.

By Investigative Reporter | ZimEye | The scandal over the Gofundme campaign for a kidney patient, the university graduate, Ruth Hwara, has seen statements being changed over who has the more than USD45,000 that has been raised in the last two months. 

On Saturday morning, Ruth’s mother briefly spoke to ZimEye while outside Avenues Clinic where her daughter is hospitalised and she made a few statements among them, that, 

1. Her daughter is not grounded at all due to money issues,

2. Ruth cannot fly to India for her operation because of a swelling at the stomach which requires draining. 

3. None of the money that was raised has been misappropriated.  

4. Of the USD45000 (£37,000) raised in a Gofundme account, USD20,000 has been withdrawn and is with her sister’s son, by name Felix Machingambi in his Zimbabwe account. [Watch video below]

5. The only two people responsible for the money are Nigel Makono, and Felix Machingambi(her sister’s son)

Currently reports suggest more than USD200,000 has been raised of which USD70,000 was raised by one King Solomon and transferred whole to the mother.

But speaking later on Saturday evening, Ruth’s mother changed statements after it was revealed she has no relationship whatsoever, saying this time that Felix did not receive any penny. 

Felix speaking on a live video discussion with several callers who include the sociallite, ‘King Solomon’ at around 8pm narrated as follows: 

Ruth’s mother claimed she gave the money to Felix…However, I recorded her admitting, “My son, Yaya, was forcing me to say this. You did not give me the money.” I asked her, “Mama, with all the money you have given me, have I ever misappropriated any?” She replied, “No, there is not a single cent that you have ever misappropriated.”

I then inquired about the doctor in charge so that they could be confronted about allowing Ruth to fly in her condition. The video cut off at that point, and I asked for Mama’s permission to post it. Afterward, my brother advised me to leave, withdraw, and get on the highway to cool off. It was a painful experience. We stopped three times, and you could tell from people’s stares and whispers that they were talking about us. 

I then said the truth would set me free, and if there’s anything I’m afraid of, it’s damaging my reputation. I built my reputation from scratch, and I’ve realized that some people take pleasure in seeing me in a bad state, even wishing for my downfall. While I can’t stop them, they can’t stop God’s plan. I’m just doing God’s work. If I’ve made mistakes, I’m sorry, but to my fellow Zimbabweans, I’m now afraid to help people. If someone needs help, I’m sorry to say, but I’m now hesitant to assist. I have my own life to live.

Felix clarified, “Let me explain, I am not.”

King Solomon continued, “I need to ask you, Felix, when was the GoFundMe account created? Did you have anything to do with it?”

Felix responded, “I did not receive any money. My only involvement was in creating a flyer and distributing it. I did not have anything to do with the GoFundMe campaign. I don’t have any relationship with these people. What I do is create a bridge, but I don’t have a personal relationship with them.”

Tom Jones added, “In the future, I really appreciate what you guys do. But as you help people and saw the GoFundMe program being run, did you see who created the campaign?”

Felix answered, “The suspects are Saru and another person called Ndeyami.”

King Solomon said, “I have never met Ruth’s mother. I would like to meet her.”

Felix offered, “Come through and see her. I can connect you tomorrow. I will send you the location and secure parking for you.”

Felix then asked, “Why did Ruth’s mother lie about the person who assisted her?” I asked her, “Where is the money?” She replied, “I’m sorry, my son, I did it because I didn’t want to get robbed.” I asked her again, and she said the money is in the bank.

Ruth’s mother lied about being related to Felix, claiming he was her sister’s son, which is not true. At the end of the day, these were public funds, and they need to be audited.
