Makandiwa-Jay Israel Money Scandal | Raw Unedited Account By Blessing Mashangwa | FULL TEXT

Jay Israel

First and foremost I want to apologise to
my parents, family, clients, friends, and high profile people who have welcomed me into their circles, for the current wave of media recordings and statements. I apologise to Sirr Mash (ex husband) an astute hardworking businessman, my former boss, the father of my children and the director for Oceane group of companies, for any negativity that might be associated with this current wave, resulting from a video released on public platforms by Mr Chari. I’m no longer involved in Oceane Cosmetics and i understand what this has done to thier brand.

I wish people waited to know & hear the full clip.

I do not know Mr. Chari neither do i know Chari’s wife. What I can testify is that this year in March 2020 Mrs. Chari came to my sandton house with my sister, she came uninvited, in my absence, and stayed for a few hours. To the best of my knowledge she had always wanted to meet me but given the situation between myself and their spiritual father i felt it was a possible snare, hence i avoided going home to meet her.

Chari & wife are both young, they are yet to learn many things about life. There are things we can only learn with age. As we grow, we become mature, & with time we may gain wisdom. No one is escaping this process of growth, maturity and wisdom and the Chari’s are no exceptions.

When Chari did the live, he never thought it was going to unearth and lead to something much much bigger than he ever anticipated – the source of hidden unlawful surveillance in my home.

It was unearthed in September that there were secret cameras planted in my house, each room, including my bedroom and bathroom, such is the wickedness in peoples hearts. I guess my life has been a long journey of endurance, manipulation, name slandering, mind games and serious tarnishing of my image and Sirr Mash’s image. A battle to bring down a business that has empowered women for 15 years.

I have been a bussinesswoman for 22yrs, i started before Zimbabwe had this wave of prophets https://www.pindula.co.zw/Blessing_Mashangwa
To date Oceane has given away a total of 32cars, the Tabitha foundation has fed families all over Zimbabwe, young girls have been taken to school. All this was done not with offering money or donors money but with funds from our own pockets. These good deeds cannot and will not be eroded because women in Africa still want to be empowered and empowered they will be✊

For months U have been deeply wounded by the invasion of my privacy, thinking someone was watching even as i bathed,
but i had to be patient to know who was behind it and for what reason? On the 8th of December i posted on my instagram account lladybee_ those who personally know me, could tell my post was emotional and very afraid, i had been threatened to release Usd$500k or i was going to be exposed, my name was going to be ruined intentionally the other condition was to drop the law suit with Mr & Mrs Makandiwa, I don’t have that kind of money and i pleaded with people to pray for me. My association with both Mr Makandiwa & Mr Jay Israel has caused me so much pain & a lot of drama. I have been on separation for close to 2yrs and my divorce has been in courts since 2016 but my divorce case has not been this dramatic.

Nudes or no nudes. Scandal or no scandal there is more to this woman called Blessing than all the other things that might be said. I will continue being who God called me to be, my passion to see African women being empowered and rising to becoming women of substance.

I will not be silenced by people who want to push the agenda that when someone falls of with thier spiritual father, they will be cursed, if it does not happen they will go to the extent of secret cameras. I do not think Mr & Mrs Makandiwa agrees with such agendas being pushed in thier name, after all has been said and done… since leaving ufic God has continued to show me mercy and kindness, i did not go broke, i bought a multi million dollar house, built a beautiful headoffice in South Africa. I did start my own cosmetic brand that has been trending all over africa, It is not a sin to leave any particular church, there is no need to defend any church or man of God, God fights for his own. God is everywhere, God is in every home not only in specific places & specific churches. Mr Chari since you have decided to play God release ALL the videos you have. Expose what you feel must be exposed when you are done Sir let me know then i will bring out my truth. Remember there is your story, my story, Mr Jay Israel story and the real story, I’m patient for i have already come too far. The truth will shock everyone so it’s ok.

For too long since the conception of prophetic movement, the kingdom of God has been turned into being thy brothers accuser, It is time to pray?. Whether you are catholic, pentecostal, prophetic, methodist, postori, seventh day, watch tower, or any religion, we all worship the same God just in different ways. Let love lead, even the Chari’s do not condemn them for the word says he/she is without sin throw in the 1st stone.

I want to thank each person who sent messages through my inbox, instagram and WhatsApp, encouraging me even when they didn’t and still they don’t know the story, you ministered the love of Christ with your warmth and love. May God bless you.Thank you all, It is well!

What You Need To Know About Poptain Of Fadza Mutengi Wedoro Fame

POPTAIN — the high-riding dancehall singer who rose to fame with his hit song “Fadza Mutengi” — has had a long, bumpy and winding road to stardom.

Born Ameen Abduljaleel Matanga in Gweru some 26 years ago, the hit-maker opened up on his touching life and not-so-rosy musical journey.

Poptain was born in a Muslim family and is the youngest of three children.

He defied the odds and found success where some people would have easily failed.

Tragedy

In fact, from the day he was born, the odds always seemed to be heavily staked against him.

Following the death of his parents when he was only a young boy, the singer and his two siblings — Charity and Akim — went to live with an uncle in Kwekwe in 2001.

Barely two years later, the uncle died, resulting in the siblings moving to Harare, where they were put under the care of an aunt. The move to Harare was to change Poptain’s life forever.

“When we moved to Harare, we were given the impression that we were going to boarding school. We were elated as we bid farewell to our friends and relatives,” he recounted.

However, to their unpleasant surprise, they were put in an orphanage.

“I was shocked and hurt. To me, this was deceit. During my early days at the orphanage, I would find a secret place where I would often go to cry my heart out.”

But it was to become a blessing in disguise.

“My interest in music grew when I was at the orphanage,” he said.

After completing Ordinary Level in 2011, the singer and his siblings went back to live with their aunt.

“My aunt, who is deeply religious, wanted me to be a Muslim teacher and despised secular music. I knew that my first love was music and I swore that nothing could stop me from achieving my goal,” added the young musician, who is now a proud father of one.

Poptain was subsequently introduced to a recording studio by Naddy Nice, a fellow Muslim with whom he had developed a close relationship.

“I owe Naddy Nice a lot. Every time I held the microphone, he would urge me to refine my talent. He is the one who gave me my stage name.”

Continuing to defy his aunt by relentlessly pursuing secular music came at a price — he was chased away from home.-The Sunday Mail

Chaos As Covid-19 Hits A High School In Harare

By A Correspondent- A Harare school recorded 37 Covid-19 cases days before the end of the third term on Friday, sparking a standoff between parents and Health and Child Care ministry officials over the handling of the matter.

Parents were not happy with plans by Roosevelt Girls High to send the affected children to Wilkins Hospital for quarantine amid fears that the outbreak had affected more people as results for 30 students were still pending.

Some of the parents with children that were yet to be tested for the coronavirus took them home on Friday after haggling with school authorities.

Only those that tested positive for Covid-19 and those awaiting results remain under quarantine at the school.

The school was sealed off by the Health ministry officials last Thursday after initial positive Covid-19 results were received.

Tests were conducted after parents of a Form 5 pupil, who fell sick and was hospitalised, reported to the school that their child had tested positive for the disease.

This prompted the school to conduct tests on all her contacts and about 60% of them tested positive.

Taungana Ndoro, the Primary and Secondary Education ministry spokesperson, was not picking calls yesterday and also not responding to questions sent on WhatsApp.

A number of schools around the country have recorded Covid-19 outbreaks raising fears that the institutions were not adequately prepared to handle the situation.

Takavafira Zhou, the Progressive Teachers Union president, said more pupils and teachers were testing positive to the virus.

“Cases of Covid-19 have been reported at Dangamvura Primary in Mutare, with several teachers and pupils testing positive at Chibi High School in Masvingo province yesterday (Friday) while many more are waiting for results today (yesterday)” Zhou said.

“With several students showing signs that resonate with Covid-19, it would be prudent to test all the students at Chibi High rather than allow them to leave the school and infect their family members.”

Zhou added: “Covid-19 has run riot in several boarding schools possibly because students are overcrowded in hostels, share textbooks, and lack of social distance due to limited infrastructure, bloated classes and absence.

“Teachers Have Limited Options Because Of Bad Laws”: Labour Lawyers

Zimbabwe’s poorly paid teachers have little room to manoeuvre when trying to force a change in their work environment as the country’s laws are heavily staked against government workers, a new report says.

According to the Labour Justice index (Teaching Profession) 2020 produced by prominent labour lawyers Munyaradzi Gwisai and Edzai Edson Matika, the government’s handling of strikes by teachers this year showed that civil servants had limited options because of bad laws.

The index was prepared on behalf of the Obert Masaraure-led amalgamated Rural Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (ARTUZ).

“There is nothing to celebrate as there is grave labour injustice occurring in the teaching profession largely owing to the legislative gap between the constitution of Zimbabwe and the existing operative laws in the public sector,” reads the report.

“There is need to challenge the existing laws, which take away the rights given by the constitution.

“Trade unions need to push for legislative alignment through litigation and/or advocacy and lobbying to ensure that the existing laws reflect the dictates of section 65 and related provisions of the constitution.”

At the beginning of the just ended school term, teachers at public schools refused to return to class citing lack of personal protective equipment in the face of the Covid-19 outbreak.

Teachers also wanted their salaries to be paid in foreign currency, saying their incomes had been eroded by inflation.”

The government awarded teachers and other civil servants modest salary increments sometime in October, before threatening to dock salaries of those that insisted on continuing with the job boycott.

Throughout the year, ARTUZ led small demonstrations to raise the plight of educators, but the authorities responded by arresting the union’s leaders.

Masaraure is a victim of regular abductions and torture by suspected state security agents. He has also been arrested several times for his activism.

Gwisai and Matika recommended that teachers’ unions must put pressure on the authorities to align laws that affect their profession with the constitution to end the ill-treatment of their members.

“Trade unions need to push for legislative alignment through litigation and/or advocacy and lobbying to ensure that the existing laws reflect the dictates of section 65 and related provisions of the constitution,” the report says.

“There is need for unions to step up their activities and use their collective force.

“The adage ‘united we stand divided we fall’ stood to its real meaning this 2020 when teachers defied the threats by the employer and remained resolute with their fight for better salaries until such a time division was sown amongst them.

“Every unilateral decision by the employer to the detriment of the workers must not go unchallenged as spirited resistance to adverse unilateral decisions has proved effective over the years.”

The report added: “examples of such adverse decisions that have been resisted include the garrison shops decision, the issue of the civil service being placed under the Office of the President and Cabinet and some collective government housing schemes.”

ZAPU Blasts Zanu Pf’s Failure To Fulfil Liberation Ethos

By A Correspondent- ZAPU, Thursday, celebrated its 59th anniversary, with party members saying the ideals of the liberation struggle have not been achieved under the Zanu-PF leadership.

The revolutionary party was formed in 1961, whose aim for political struggle was motivated to improve quality of life for majority blacks and their social welfare.

But the party laments that its motivation to join both the political and liberation struggle against the whites have not yielded much economic emancipation for Zimbabweans.

“We are convinced that a ZAPU government would give priority to improving the welfare of citizens even in the face of economic deterioration. Of course, a comprehensive and lasting solution to social problems is not possible without good governance, particularly getting rid of corruption, nepotism, tribalism, gender discrimination and other forms of exclusion,”said ZAPU Acting Secretary Mildred Mkandla at the party offices in Bulawayo.

ZAPU interim president Isaac Mabuka 59th Anniversary address

Mkandla lamented the socio-economic challenges the country is going through.

She said due to that realisation, ZAPU had to revive its Social Welfare Department.

“Our late president, Dr Dumiso Dabengwa found it necessary to reconstitute this ZAPU Department of Social Welfare although while we could take a broad view of socio-economic challenges we needed to organise our various interventions and to keep building our party capacity to respond,” Mkandla said.

The social welfare secretary noted there was a need to enhance ZAPU’s capacity for it to respond to socio-challenges, as the range and scale of problems faced by party members and ordinary citizens had grown.

“In the course of doing our work in the last few years, it has become apparent that we need to build and in some cases enhance systems and our capacity. For instance, given the decline of national and local authority services there must be better awareness of alternatives provided by voluntary agencies and charitable organisations so people can receive assistance,” she said.

“I praise our office of the Treasurer General that has shown great flexibility to facilitate speedy collection of financial contributions to respond to crises and emergencies. However nothing beats the establishment of a fund for use in emergencies.”

ZAPU claimed it received no donor funds but sourced money from party members for its various social interventions.

“Things that have been done before 2020 have not been recorded and reported but a listing of some done this year shows the variety of interventions. Some of the practical interventions in crises the department undertook included providing support to Bulawayo’s Covid-19 prevention, intervened in Luveve during the outbreak of water- borne diseases and loss of life, supported residents in Binga District during floods by organising clothing and utensils for affected communities, groceries and medical supplies to Veteran- Moffat Hadebe who fired the first shot against Rhodesian forces in 1964,” Mkandla said.

Farm Workers Plead For Forex Payments

By A Correspondent- Farm workers say the government must consider paying farmers in foreign currency for deliveries of cash crops so that the producers can pay their workers reasonable wages.

Raymond Sixpence, a Progressive Agricultural and Allied Industries Workers Union of Zimbabwe (Pawuz) official, said farmers were not able to pay their workers in foreign currency because their earnings were exclusively in Zimbabwe dollars.

“Tobacco, cotton and maize farmers are being paid little money, which is not enough to buy new machinery,” Sixpence said.

“Farmers should be given foreign currency because the local currency is not enough.

“So we are saying government should be there to help farmers so that they will have enough money to prepare for the new season.”

He said Pawuz wrote to the Lands Agriculture, Water, Climate and resettlement ministry seeking government intervention, but never got a response.

CCZ Bemoans Price Increases

By A Correspondent- The Consumer Council of Zimbabwe (CCZ) has bemoaned the steady increase in prices, saying the trend defies the economic environment in the country.

Rose Mpofu, the CCZ deputy director, said businesses must ensure that prices are realistic especially compared to what is obtaining in neighbouring countries.

“We appreciate very much all the information that we are getting about the stabilisation and also particularly the inflation which is going down, especially the month-on-month. However, we continue to realise that in fact prices are not really going down.

“In fact, sometimes prices are going up,” Mpofu said at the recent Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) 6th Annual Business Review Conference held in Harare.

“At what point are we going to realise prices that are realistic especially when we compare with other countries in the region?

“Sentiments we are getting from business when we interact with them is that they complain about the raw material and that they are fighting problems of high taxes for those raw materials.”

Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe governor John Mangudya told the same event that businesses were using different foreign currency exchange rates, resulting in distortions.

“You are very right about what is being observed. Others (businesses) use $90, $95 and $100 (exchange rate against the United States dollar), again as stated, this is non-compliance,” Mangudya said.

“It is nothing else besides non-compliance.”

The rising prices have raised questions about Zimbawe National Statistics Agency (Zimstat) inflation figures, which show a downward trend.

According to Zimstat, the inflation rate eased to 401,66% in November year-on-year from 471,25% the previous month.

It said on a monthly basis, prices increased by 3,1% compared with 4,37% previously.

The regular price increases come in the background of dwindling disposable incomes, reduced consumer spending, high unemployment as businesses cut jobs to reduce costs, and eroding wages caused by a depreciating local currency.

Temba Mliswa, the Norton MP, told the conference that civil servants were hardest hit by the price increases.

“Somebody who was being paid US$500 recently is now getting US$50,” Mliswa said. “So how then can this money buy anything?”

Mangudya pleaded with consumers to be patient as he promised that the spate of price increases would come to an end.-standard

Zanu Pf Urban Land Barons Exposed

By A Correspondent- Daggers are drawn in Zanu-PF over ruling party officials that are amassing land in urban areas, which they sell to desperate home seekers, with some disgruntled youths demanding action.

A letter to President Emmerson Mnangagwa by Zanu-PF youths in Mashonaland and messages on WhatsApp groups belonging to different wings of the ruling party obtained by this publication show that tension is rising over the land grabs.

The issue of people that have amassed vast tracts of land illegally in the cities, referred to as land barons, has come to the fore in recent weeks after 190 houses were demolished in Harare’s Budiriro suburb after the owners illegally occupied council land.

Caleb Kadye, a Zanu-PF member, has been identified as the leader of Events Housing Cooperative that invaded a site reserved by the council and subdivided it.

The Government said members of the cooperative paid US$2000 each for the stands and indicated that the Budiriro debacle was a tip of the iceberg as the capital had tens of such cooperatives that occupied land illegally from around 2012.

The letter to Mnangagwa by Zanu-PF youths in Mashonaland West reveals that the rot could have permeated to most parts of the country.

According to the youths, some of their leaders in the province have acquired 40 hectares of state land they intend to use for their own personal gain, including creating housing stands for sale.

The letter claimed there was a plot by key youth officials in Mashonaland West, who were using fake claims to get state land in Kadoma.

“This is all based on a fraudulent claim whereby in the documents they sent to Chinhoyi provincial, local government offices, he (the Zanu-PF official) only printed his name and three other youths, who include two ladies who are notoriously known in Kadoma for land scams and defrauding land seekers,” says the letter naming a prominent youth league official.

“They have been to court multiple times on fraud charges, your offices can check with the Kadoma Magistrates Court about the two ladies.”

“So they hatched a plan to personalise the land once they get the offer letter which they are about to receive soon from the Ministry of Local Government. No youth will benefit from this land,” the letter read in part.

The letter claimed the provincial youth leaders in Mashonaland West were using the Zanu-PF youth league to get the land, which they will subdivide and sell to home seekers.

“We are appealing to your high office your excellency to intervene and stop this corrupt document and investigate how it managed to sail through some stages,” reads the letter.

“In 2020, does the government still give vast tracts of land to individuals for stand developments?”

It also emerged that some youth league officials in Harare were using Zanu-PF youth league WhatsApp platforms, some of them in settlements that have been flagged as illegal by the Government.

Some of the stands advertised on WhatsApp are in Hatcliffe and Epworth.

A Zanu-PF youth league official, who spoke on condition of anonymity said some of the people advertising the stands were doing so on behalf of known land barons.

“I know some of them as runners of a Zanu-PF politician, who sells urban land,” the official said.

“There are Zanu-PF youths run estate companies with offices in Harare, who are the foot soldiers.”

Zanu-PF director of information Tafadzwa Mugwadi had not responded to questions about the letter to Mnangagwa at the time of going to print, but he distanced the party from land barons.

“Zanu-PF for the record is not working with and has never worked with any land baron or baroness,” Mugwadi said.

“We are the ruling party, and the Ministry of National Housing and Social Amenities is naturally convenient to us for such purposes such that the party has no need to work with third parties to attend to housing needs of our people.”

Marian Chombo, the Local Government deputy minister, said Mnangagwa’s administration will deal harshly with land barons.

“Huge amounts of money are lost to these people,” Chombo said.

“Indeed, they try and approach various government offices in an effort to sanitise or regularise their illegal activities.

“Government does not allocate land after it has been illegally parcelled out.

“The party has not encouraged anybody to distribute stands.”

She said beneficiaries of land in urban areas should always check with the department of state land in her ministry to verify the authenticity of cooperatives.

“No land will ever get a development permit without the input of the department of state land, which would verify the correct ownership before subdivision,” Chombo added.

“Land barons have no future in this new dispensation.”

Man Marries Off Minor For US$10

By A Correspondent- A Mutare man raped his 13-year-old daughter before marrying her off to a polygamist for US$10, a magistrates court was told.

The man, whose name has been withheld to protect the identity of the minor, appeared before magistrate Nyasha Kuture facing charges of pledging a minor to another man.

He was sentenced to an effective nine months and is awaiting trial on the rape charges.

Prosecutors said sometime in 2019 in Dangamvura, the man was renting a three-roomed house where he stayed with his two wives.

He had a misunderstanding with his second wife before chasing her away.

The polygamist went to sleep in his first wife’s bedroom together with the complainant and her siblings.

During the night, he raped his 13-year-old daughter and threatened her with death if she disclosed the offence.

One day the man handed the girl over to Lucas Hondo who took her to Tembere village under Chief Zimunya.

Hondo’s second wife prepared a room for the complainant to sleep with the man who already had four wives.

Prosecutors said the girl was sold for US$10.-standard

The duo bought the beast on the day in question at USD340 and slaughtered it before taking away the carcass to Bindura.

It further emerged that Donald Mukombe had stolen four beasts from Matepatepa area of which two of the beasts belonged to Nicodemus Ruwani who had already embarked on a search of his lost beast.

Working on a tip off Bindura Rural Police arrested Donald Mukombe who led them to Brickburn farm where he kept the beasts and found one beast already sold to Lewis Banda and Tafadzwa Muchenje leading to their subsequent arrest.

The prosecution’s case against Banda prima facie was that the accused person got possession of a stolen beast and was aware that the beast could be stolen hence he was guilty as charged.

Investigating officer CST Ndlovu in giving evidence insisted that there was a possibility that Banda and Muchenje knew that the beast was stolen as they overlooked some cattle movement procedures such as getting police clearance.

In handing her judgement on 18 December 2020, Magistrate Chifamba highlighted that the defence counsel had proved beyond reasonable doubt that the accused had no reasonable grounds to suspect that the beast had been stolen.

In the verdict summary, the court established that the accused persons did not know that the beast was stolen as testified by all witnesses. Furthermore, the accused persons paid a fair price for the beast, a development that dispelled all suspicion that it could have been stolen.
Donald Mukombe was slapped with a 27-year jail term for cattle rustling whilst Brighton Mudzongachiso awaits judgement on 28 December 2020

“Police Out In Full Force To Ban Christmas Parties”

The Zimbabwean government has effectively banned Christmas parties due to a second wave of the coronavirus characterised by a huge spike in new infections.

Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe said police were out in full force to enforce COVID-19 lockdown regulations.

He said:

We are not yet out of the COVID-19 woes. The country is in the second wave of the virus. Parties will not be permissible during the festive season.

Weddings will be allowed but with limited numbers. Police will be out in full force to enforce COVID-19 regulations and make sure they are being followed.

However, defiant revellers say they will celebrate, even if it means hosting bush parties.

A club owner told TimesLive that police are incapacitated and don’t have fuel to do normal policing duties and it would be impossible for them to drive 20km out of town to stop parties.

A partygoer said it was easy to circumvent the coronavirus lockdown by holding parties at tourism facilities such as hotels and bed and breakfast lodges.

He said:

You book a lodge for US$100 (about R1,450), invite around 20 friends, bring drinks and a good DJ. It’s even cheaper than spending at a nightclub.

Since March, Zimbabwe has recorded coronavirus 11 866 cases, 9 836 recoveries and 314 deaths.

In the second wave, the country is recording an average of 117 new cases daily.

Master KG Orders Lover To Abort?

Popular South African producer and man of the moment, Master KG is in the eye of a storm after he was exposed to have ordered his lover, Queen Lolly, to abort the couple’s pregnancy.

The “Jerusalema” star is expecting his first child with fellow musician Queen Lolly, real name Nomfundo Shezi. However, far from being pleased, Master KG, real name Kgaogelo Moagi, is reported to have ordered Queen Lolly to abort the pregnancy.

The sensational allegations were made by Queen Lolly who told City Press that Master KG had ordered her to “get rid of the baby” after she informed him that she was pregnant. A seemingly irate Queen Lolly also accused the global sensation of being an inveterate womaniser who preys on powerless women. She told the publication

“I fell pregnant two months ago and when I told him, he told me to have an abortion. I asked him why he was doing this, when I had put up with everything he had already put me through, including dating another woman and going public about it. There are many different women he’s been with while asking me to be patient with him,”

She also said that this was the second time that she had fallen pregnant with Master KG’s baby,

“He wants me to terminate the pregnancy, but he doesn’t like paying hospital bills. Last year, I fell pregnant and I went through the whole thing by myself. I had a miscarriage and he wasn’t there, although he knew [what had happened].

“I asked him how I can have an abortion if he doesn’t pay hospital bills. The first time, he said: ‘Please make a plan.’ KG is a womaniser and preys on powerless women because he knows he has power,”

Queen Lolly insisted that she has no plans to be in a long term relationship with the Limpopo-born musician who had turned on her after she announced that she was pregnant.

“He said he didn’t give a f**k and I could go ahead and tell the press about it because he was loved all over the world, but who was I? He said he wasn’t ready for a child. I told him I needed money to terminate and he asked how much. I told him to do the booking since he was the one who didn’t want the baby, and that he shouldn’t book me into a cheap backdoor clinic.”

Master KG on the other hand refuted the allegations and accused Queen Lolly of trying to tarnish his image because he had broken up with her and refused to produce a song for her.

“Just because I am not doing what she wants me to do, she is coming up with stories to make me look bad in the public. First thing, she’s saying that I said she must abort, whereas she is the one who sent the message and said she’s going to abort. If there is a baby and it is mine, I don’t see a reason for her to abort my child. I have a baby already. Why would I tell her to abort?”

Emergency Passports To Be Now Applied For In Harare Only

State Media

IN a bid to expedite the issuing of emergency passports and avoid litigation, the Government has directed that the document be applied and issued only at the Registrar General’s Office in Harare.

This was after it was noted that the 24-hour emergency passport which costs US$318 was in some cases taking more than a week to reach the owner thereby defeating the “emergency” status of the document leaving the State liable to prosecution for failing to deliver the passport in the prescribed 24 hours.

Acting Registrar-General Mr Henry Machiri told Sunday News that citizens should take note of the changes to avoid delays in the event they want to travel as a matter of urgency.

Citizens have registered their dismay after being denied access to pay for forex passports in other provinces except Harare only as they could not be delivered in 24 hours.

Emergency passport applications were previously submitted at provincial registry offices but the passports are taking more than 24 hours to return to the city of application.

The development comes at a time when the country is expected to receive a number of diasporans especially those based in South Africa commonly known as injiva who will be coming for the festive holidays where they also take time to regularise their travelling documents as some would have expired.

“It is not that we are denying them to apply from any offices they wish but if you look at it, you apply for a 24-hour passport and you are in Bulawayo and we take four or more days to give you that passport, that becomes a breach of contract. That’s where the matter is.

“For this US$ passport if you give us your application at 9am, you are supposed to get it at 9am the following day.

One is confident that they can book a flight to travel at 1pm as they are guaranteed of a passport in 24 hours. Imagine booking a flight and the passport does not come back in the stipulated 24 hours because you applied from Bulawayo.

That will be bad,” he said.

Added Mr Machiri; “We want to ensure that we honour our contract with you by giving you the passport in 24 hours.

Provinces outside Harare are now scared to breach that contract, hence they do not want citizens to apply anywhere outside the Harare RGs office.

“We have recorded instances where we have been taken to court for breaching contracts when a passport is not availed in 24 hours after paying forex and the courts looked at our agreement where we promised to deliver in 24 hours and we are found on the wrong side.”

The acting RG also said provinces like Bulawayo vehicles were coming once a week for the delivery of passports which completely erases the possibility of a 24-hour passport being issued from the province.

However, the acting RG said the current passport backlog is below 300 000 as some passports have been issued.

Before the onset of Covid-19, the backlog was crawling towards the 500 000 mark.

Pupils Who Tested Positive For Coronavirus To Remain In Isolation Throughout The Holidays

Roman Catholic-run Minda Girls High at Maphisa Growth Point in Matobo District, Matabeleland South Province is the latest school to report multiple Covid-19 cases, after 20 pupils tested positive for the pandemic with the school directing that learners who test positive will remain at the school beyond the closing date.

Schools closed for the third term last Friday and while some parents were uniting with their children and getting prepared for the festive season, pupils who are still positive were told to remain isolated at the learning institutions, especially boarding schools.

To date the country’s schools have recorded 558 Covid-19 cases with the hardest hit being John Tallach High in Ntabazinduna, Matabeleland North Province where more than 180 cases were reported.

However, most of the school pupils have recovered.

In an interview with Sunday News, director of communications in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Mr Taungana Ndoro said those who tested positive will remain at their schools or at home as per the direction of the Ministry of Health and Child Care.

“Those who tested positive and still on mandatory isolation will remain under the direction of the Ministry of Health and Child Care until cleared. This may be at the school or at their homes depending on the Ministry of Health (and Child Care)’s direction,” said Mr Ndoro.

He said the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has already put in place mechanisms to cater for those that tested positive noting that their aim was not to expose the community and contain the spread of the pandemic.

“In all this, we are closely working with the Ministry of Health and Child Care authorities and they have been giving us the much required guidance to help contain the spread of the pandemic within our schools.

“It is important to note that there are set protocols to follow when someone tests positive for the pandemic and their implementation is guided by health officials and one of these is the issue of isolation from society,” said Mr Ndoro.

At Minda High School authorities have revealed that pupils who tested positive will stay at the school for a further week, which was when their mandatory isolation period is expected to end.

In a message sent to parents on Friday, the school’s head, Mr Norcan Nyamambi, said they were working with health authorities to contain the pandemic and also ensure the affected pupils remained on quarantine.

“We shall continue to give you updates as we get full guidance from the relevant authorities. Parents and guardians of affected learners will be contacted individually,” reads part of the message.

Last Tuesday, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Senator Monica Mutsvangwa, revealed that Government was putting in place mechanisms at schools ahead of the festive season break.
The minister was speaking during a post-Cabinet briefing.

“The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, in collaboration with Ministry of Health and Child Care continue to strengthen infection, prevention and control strategies in schools as they prepare to break for the Christmas and New Year holidays.

“Cumulatively, 558 cases have been reported at learning institutions across the country,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary has said schools must continue to cap the coming term fees at $25 000 as the ministry has not approved any new fees increase.

Mr Ndoro said schools should charge fees that were approved in September when schools opened for this year’s third term.

“As of now there are no new fees structures that have been approved by Government. The schools will continue to use the fees structure that were approved when the schools opened in September. All schools must not peg their fees beyond $25 000. All our provinces have been authorised to approve all fees structures that do not exceed $25 000.

Any schools intending to raise their fees to beyond $25 000 will have to approach the head office for approval,” he said.

There have reports that some boarding schools have also indicated that they will reduce intake for Form One next year to reduce congestion.

As part of efforts to reduce spread of Covid-19, the Government recommended class sizes be reduced.

Unlike day schools where schools were directed to stagger attendance of pupils, boarding schools were forced to stick with all their pupils at the same time since they could not send them home.

Mr Ndoro said some of the schools in the country, mostly boarding, should also implement measures to decongest their hostels and dormitories so as to comply with the ministry’s Standard Operation Procedures.

Mnangagwa Says Zim Is Ready To Acquire Covid-19 Vaccines

State Media

Emmerson Mnangagwa

ZIMBABWE has upped preparations for a nationwide rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine, with the Government having concluded two extensive studies to assess readiness for the deployment of inoculation jabs, President Mnangagwa has said.

Updating the nation on the country’s Covid-19 response and containment measures at State House in Harare yesterday, the President warned against unnecessary travel and large gatherings over the festive period.

The country, said the President, was staring at losing out on the gains made in containing a widespread outbreak of the coronavirus if Zimbabweans continue to disregard Covid-19 containment measures that include enforcement of physical distancing and wearing face coverings.

Zimbabwe has recorded 12 047 cases of the coronavirus since March, with 316 people having died from the contagion.

The country has witnessed a spike in new infections over the past month, with 3 218 new cases having been recorded between November 16 and December 18.

“While a vaccine is the ultimate preventative measure, it is not available to us just yet,” said the President.

“Preparations for the deployment of a vaccine, once approved, are, however, in progress guided by two national preparedness assessments conducted in October and November 2020.

“Zimbabwe will only roll out vaccines that have been analysed and found to be effective and safe for our population.”

He said Zimbabwe was party to the World Health Organisation led Global Access Facility — Covax — which plans to secure and distribute millions of doses of the vaccine to developing countries, once licensed and approved.

The initiative, which seeks to secure at least 220 million doses, will enable the fast and equitable distribution of the vaccine.

Provisionally, the WHO distribution mechanism seeks to proportionally allocate doses until all countries have enough doses to cover 20 percent of their population.

“The WHO, working with other global immunisation partners, has come up with a Covid-19 Global Access Facility (Covax).

“This is designed to accelerate the development and manufacture of safe, effective Covid-19 vaccines in order to guarantee rapid, fair and equitable access to vaccines for all countries.

“Zimbabwe is participating in the facility.

“In addition to this, Zimbabwe is also participating in clinical trials and vaccine research to ensure that the country’s decision is guided by local science.”

Boris Johnson Bans Christmas Visits At Covid-19 Hotspots In England As Tough Festive Regulations Kick Off At Midnight

The Mirror

Prime Minister Boris Johnson, Chief Medical Officer Chris Whitty and Chief Scientific Adviser Patrick Vallance gave a Covid update on Saturday

Millions of people in England are set to be plunged into a strict new Tier 4 lockdown, with Christmas bubbles cancelled and non-essential businesses forced to close.

Support bubbles will remain in place, and places or worship will be allowed to remain open.

But the 17.7 million people living under Tier 4 will be subject to strict lockdown rules, similar to those that were in place during the national lockdown in November.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson has announced the new restrictions in a press conference just six days before Christmas, forcing many to change their festive plans at very short notice.

What time does Tier 4 lockdown start?
New Tier Four restrictions will come into effect at 00:01 on Sunday 20 December – midnight tonight.

From this time, Tier 4 residents will be subject to a legal stay at home order. Non-essential shops must remain closed, Christmas bubbles are cancelled, and all indoor socialising with other households will be banned.

Kent, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, London and Hertfordshire are among the Tier Four areas, which are largely in the South East of England.

The new tier has been created in response to a new variant of coronavirus, which is believed to spread more easily than earlier iterations of the disease. It is not believed to cause more serious illness.

For those people living under Tiers One, Two and Three, Christmas bubbles have been reduced from a five day period to just Christmas Day.

The rules will remain in place for at least two weeks, and are due to be next reviewed on 30 December.

Colonel Lionel Dyck’s Army Holding Fort In Mozambique While SADC Continues To Talk

Colonel Lionel Dyck

Community leaders gathered for an emergency meeting this week in Maputo, Mozambique, following a recent get-together in Gaborone, Botswana, to discuss the volatile political and security situation in that country’s gas-rich Cabo Delgado northern region.

The leaders agreed on Monday in Maputo to hold yet another emergency summit in January next year to discuss the conflict threatening not just Mozambique’s internal peace and stability, but also the whole region’s security, with Zimbabwe seriously vulnerable as most of its oil supplies come through the neighbouring country’s port of Beira.

Those who attended the meeting included Presidents Felipe Nyusi of Mozambique, South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa, Mokgweetsi Masisi of Botswana and Zimbabwe’s Emmerson Mnangagwa.

As former Rhodesian and Zimbabwean military veteran retired Colonel Lionel Dyck puts it in this article by Hannes Wessels, the stakes are very high in the conflict.

Wessels was born in 1956 in what was then Salisbury in Southern Rhodesia (now Harare, Zimbabwe), but grew up in Umtali (now Mutare) on the Mozambique border. As a young boy he met Robert Ruark on safari in Mozambique and was later captivated by his books.

He wrote this article after visiting Mozambique in recent months where he spoke Dyck who is holding fort while Sadc leaders are gathering an intervention force to take on the well-organised and well-equipped Islamic militants fighting to establish a caliphate in the region endowed with gas abundance.

With the world convulsed by the hysteria generated by the Black Lives Matter movement, I came away from my recent meeting with Colonel Lionel Dyck mulling the prevailing madness.

Something wildly ironic about a white, former Rhodesian, then Zimbabwean army officer, talking in sombre but selfless terms about the risks that lie ahead of him in trying to quell a growing and increasingly brutal insurrection that is wreaking havoc through Cabo Delgado province in northern Mozambique.

Here Al Sunnah wa Jama’ah, which is an ISIS (Islamic State) offshoot, seeking to establish a caliphate in the province, is at the heart of the mayhem where blacks are killing blacks in grisly fashion with increasing abandon and it looks like he is the man with the finger of fate pointed firmly at him if this conflagration is going to be confronted, contained and defeated.

“The stakes are extremely high,” says Dyck, “but the Mozambique Defence Forces are unprepared and under-resourced and we have to move fast. Some of the atrocities committed are unlike anything I have seen before and I’ve seen a lot of wars, in a lot of different places. The massacre that followed the attack on Quissanga Police Post involved the mutilation of bodies, severing of limbs and we believe the attackers ate some of the body-parts. Despite this barbarism, this enemy is organised, motivated and well equipped. If we don’t get on top of this, it’s going to spread south fast and that will be a catastrophe for the entire region.”

After Independence in 1980, Dyck stayed on in the new Zimbabwean army and took command of the Zimbabwe Parachute Battalion which was a mix of former RAR (Rhodesian African Rifles), Selous Scouts and former adversaries from the Zanla and Zpra guerrilla armies.

No easy task to mould different tribes and allegiances into an effective fighting unit in the wake of a bitter war but he pulled it off and moulded the new country’s most potent fighting force.

Controversially, he led these men in a hard-fought campaign against Renamo rebels in central Mozambique, which earned him the respect and trust of the Frelimo administration and it is for this reason, the Nyusi administration has turned to him for help in the current time of need.

Seven years ago, with poaching rampant in parts of southern Mozambique, his Dyck Advisory Group (DAG) was hired by the authorities to tackle the problem. Using a mix of experienced game-scouts and former special forces personnel, he accepted.

Working in many cases with tracker dogs and with air support, he and his men proved highly successful and it was on the back of this that he was approached by the Mozambique police chief in September last year and asked to assist in dealing with the burgeoning insurrection unfolding in Cabo Delgado.

“We have discovered it’s a nasty mix of old, well-organised, criminal networks involved in ivory, rubies and emeralds but the big, billion-dollar business is heroin being moved through the area and distributed north and south. This has now taken on an Islamic face and it’s a highly effective combination with strong external support.”

Dyck is operating on a shoe-string. With one helicopter having been shot down and destroyed, he has two Gazelle gunships flying, two “Bathawk” microlights with front-guns, an old Allouette helicopter harmed with 20-millimetre canon and two fixed wing aircraft.

With a total compliment of less than 30 men, he has almost no ground-forces and his intelligence gathering capability is very limited.

“At the moment our strike capability is almost entirely airborne,” he says.

“We have attacked enemy camps from the air and we are using aircraft to interdict their supplies which are being moved on land and sea. I believe we have been successful in slowing their advance but this war is far from won. We have to start a selection and training programme immediately so we can get good men into the field and take the fight back to the enemy from the air and on the ground. We also intend to move our base of operations closer to Mocimboa da Praia which was attacked recently by the rebels.”

Muddying the waters is dissension within the Sadc region with different members holding different opinions and having different agendas.

Tanzania, with a large Muslim population, it appears, is at best neutral but the central government appears to be doing nothing to stop the flow of insurgents into Mozambique from bases in the south of the country.

Hope for support from Zimbabwe has not been forthcoming and South Africa appears to prefer to remain above the fray. Zimbabwe, given its dire economic situation, may not have the resources to intervene and South Africa appears to have taken note of a warning from Al Sunnah, that they intervene at the risk of a backlash that may well come from dormant, but potentially dangerous Islamic groups inside the country.

Further afield, the Americans appear to be watching from the sidelines. Undoubtedly they have the capacity to intervene, but it appears the Nyusi administration is wary of soliciting their help. This may be because they are unsure of what the quid pro quo will be but it may also have something to do with the conflict of interest US troops in Africa face.

Most of the Islamic insurrections in west and central Africa appear to be Saudi financed and supported. Saudi Arabia remains an American and Israeli ally in containing Iran and in dealing with other Middle-East hotspots and this seems to have compromised their goals in containing the Islamic contagion.

Dyck has been approached by influential figures in the British “establishment” offering assistance but he is wary. “I just don’t trust them; they never tell you the whole story and there is always another agenda in play with them. I feel we must go it alone at this stage with the little we have and turn this around. It’s going to be hard but we have to win this.”

At this point it looks like a semi-retired 76-year-old veteran of many wars, in the twilight of his years, stands pretty much alone in the ongoing struggle to stem the spread of Islamic fundamentalism and to stop the slaughter of blacks by blacks on the killing fields of Africa. And because the “good guy” has a white face and there are no white American cops involved, the media appears to have little interest.

Look Who’s Talking, Monica Mutsvangwa Warns Zimbabweans Against Partying During The Festive Season

Paul Nyathi

Reckless … Home Affairs minister Kazembe Kazembe, Monica Mutsvagwa and Ndavaningi Mangwana at Monica’s 60th birthday party

Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa had issued a statement warning Zimbabweans to avoid the spread of the Coronavirus during the festive season.

Minister Mutsvangwa who last month hosted a huge birthday party which had several ministers and senior government officials warned citizens against partying over the festive.

Several ministers and guests gathered in Harare at the end of November to celebrate the 60th birthday of information minister Monica Mutsvangwa with no mask in sight.

Zimbabweans reacted with anger after pictures emerged showing ministers Mutsvangwa, Joel Biggie Matiza, Ziyambi Ziyambi and Kazembe Kazembe at the shindig which went on late into the night.

The pictures were shared on social media by government spokesman Ndavaningi Mangwana.

In response, Mutsvangwa said she had no regrets after her family organised the surprise 60th birthday bash for her.

“So, my family cannot host a birthday party for me?” she asked rhetorically when asked for a comment.

“I have attended several events in the last week alone and then my family surprises me with a party with 50 guests comprising of my best friends and then it is a problem?”

Speaking in a pre-recorded statement shared online on Saturday, Mutsvangwa, called on Zimbabweans to exercise extreme vigilance over the festive season to avoid intensifying the spread of Covid-19 in the country, something which they failed to do as cabinet ministers.

Minister Mutsvangwa said while the Government has put in place measures to help contain the spread of the virus, it was up to individuals to take necessary precautions to guard against the coronavirus.

“I am here to tell you that Covid-19 is still raging and claiming more lives,” she said.

“Far from claims that its strains have receded, the disease remains the number one enemy to human health.

“It is killing the young and old and continues to threaten our very existence.

“In keeping with World Health Organisations standards, the Zimbabwe Government has over the year contained the disease by scaling up testing, contact tracing, surveillance and enforcement.

“However, you and I should continue to play our part, do not let your guard down.

“Do it for your son, daughter, mother, father, brother and sister, all your loved ones.

“Do not be the ones to spread the disease to them.”

Excelsior Primary School In Vumba Mountains Renamed Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Primary School.

State Media

Kembo Mohadi

A PRIMARY school in the Vumba resort area near Mutare has been renamed after the late national hero, Vice President Dr Joshua Nkomo.

Vice President Kembo Mohadi announced the renaming of the school, which was formerly known as Excelsior Primary School, yesterday when he officiated at a handover ceremony of a refurbished classroom block at the school.

VP Mohadi, who is board chairman for the Development Trust of Zimbabwe (DTZ) which financed the refurbishment, said names of learning institutions that were inherited from the colonial era have no significance today.

“We are renaming this school after the liberation war icon and Father Zimbabwe, the late Cde Joshua Nkomo,” said the Vice President.

“He was instrumental in the formation of this school by virtue of his immense contribution to the formation of the Development Trust of Zimbabwe.

“The renaming of the school becomes part of a broader initiative meant to restore pride in our identity and history as well as celebrate the life of our leaders both the living and departed.”

He said authorities will strive to rename education institutions to honour the country’s national heroes and nationalists from the region.

Vice President Mohadi chairs the Cabinet Committee on State Occasions, Social Services and Poverty Reduction and National Peace and Reconciliation which, among other roles, oversees the renaming of institutions with colonial era names.

Mnangagwa And His Wife Launch The National Dress

State Media

President Emmerson Mnangagwa with his wife at the launch

PRESIDENT Mnangagwa yesterday launched the National Dress Fabric at a colourful event at State House, marking the first time that the country has been able to settle on a national dress style since 1980.

First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa spearheaded the search for the National Dress Fabric after embarking on comprehensive consultations with different stakeholders and ethnic groups from all the country’s 10 provinces.

The National Dress Fabric encompasses national symbols such as the Zimbabwe Bird, the National Flag and the Chevron pattern. Designs of the fabric were showcased at a glamorous fashion show held at State House.

Speaking after launching the National Dress Fabric, President Mnangagwa lauded the First Lady for leading the milestone achievement that is crucial to promoting and preserving national identity.

He said the National Dress Fabric promotes unity among Zimbabweans, in light of Unity Day, which will be commemorated on Tuesday.

“The fabric plays an important role in the preservation of national values and cultural heritage and helps create unity among our people. I challenge the citizenry to conceptualise our apparel as more than just a form of identity. It must be a bridge, joining communities with the uniqueness of their heritage, more so that this launch is happening two days before our country commemorates Unite Day.”

The President said the National Dress Fabric will contribute to convey Zimbabwe’s culture, ways of life, values and belief systems.

“I am enthused that fashion and design now plays an equally important role with other artistic fields in our national development discourse. I therefore want to appreciate all the fashion designers and stakeholders in the textile industry for this achievement,” President Mnangagwa said.

He said the Government would set aside days when people would wear the fabric.

“Going forward, as Zimbabweans, both here and in the Diaspora, let us now promote our country’s sovereignty and national identity through this National Dress Fabric. On our side as Government, we should designate days when our people wear attire with the National Dress Fabric, inclusive of those in the education sector,” President Mnangagwa said.

The President implored the media to popularise the National Dress Fabric while encouraging the fashion and arts sectors to do the same.

“In addition, the Zimbabwe Fashion and Textile Industry and Creative Industry are challenged to draw inspiration from this national fabric by blending the designs into contemporary fashion, art, film and music trends. This will ensure that the National Dress Fabric is immortalised and passed on to the next generations.”

In her remarks, the First Lady said she intended the National Dress Fabric to depict the country’s traditions, history, national heritage and aspirations while being appropriate to all social and religious gatherings.

In addition, the fabric had to embrace all ethnic groups and historic backgrounds.

Consultations involved ministries, researchers, academics, traditional leaders, designers, historians, women and church groups.

The First Lady said she decided to take up the initiative to come up with a National Dress Fabric as many Zimbabweans had no idea of what to wear during national events, leading many to adopt foreign styles.

“I considered countries like South Africa and Malaysia with complex cultures but had national dresses and I said Zimbabwe with its more unified culture should find it easier to have one of its own. As a woman, in my own mind, I thought of a national dress for Zimbabwe which included a wraparound cloth, headdress and ornaments, including necklaces, earrings and bracelets. But I decided to consult with experts on how to go about it,” she said.

The First Lady assigned the Minister of Women Affairs, Community, Small and Medium Enterprises Development, Dr Sithembiso Nyoni, to oversee the work for her.

“I would like to take this opportunity to appreciate the work that has been put in by Honourable (Sithembiso) Nyoni and her ministry, King Fisher, the Fabric Designer, fashion designers and the multi-stakeholders who have been critical in ensuring that this process comes to fruition and that Zimbabwe can finally launch a national dress.

“Today, we witness the launch of the National Dress Fabric as well as the fashion show where various designs of the national fabric are on display. We also look at the way this fabric can be designed so that it aligns well with the drive to instil nationalism among Zimbabweans near and far. We want to encourage all Zimbabweans to fully engage and participate in the promotion and popularisation of the national dress and national fabric,” Amai Mnangagwa said.

While the initial search for the National Dress Fabric started in 2005, it did not yield any results prompting Amai Mnangagwa to take it upon herself to ensure the programme succeeds.

Yesterday, the President and First Lady toured stands where the fabric was being exhibited in different designs.

Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, Cabinet ministers and senior officials from the Government and ZANU PF attended the event.

Zimbabwe To Start Manufacturing Its Own ARVs

ZIMBABWE will now resume local manufacturing of Antiretrovirals (ARVs) and other drugs using local pharmaceutical companies as the country has been losing millions of foreign currency by procuring them from India and China through middlemen at a high cost.

The move will capacitate local manufactures who will now supply the local market and in turn save on the much-needed forex.

In 2004, Zimbabwe used to manufacture its own generic ARVs and other drugs through Varichem Pharmaceuticals, but production stopped in 2012 as the Government, who was the largest client, started getting their drugs from India through donors who up to date, supply about 90 percent of ARVs to the country.

Donors do not procure their drugs locally, hence the company was forced to stop manufacturing drugs as they had no uptake.

Over one million people are on Antiretroviral Therapy (ART) in the country and the drugs have all along been imported from China and India at a high cost as middlemen were doing the procurement for the Government.

Minister of Health and Child Care Deputy Minister Dr John Mangwiro told Sunday News in an interview that the long-term vision of National Aids Council (Nac) and the ministry is to be able to manufacture drugs including ARVs locally, so there is a need to look at drug manufacturing companies and have collaborations with them.

“I must say the ARVs that we were using as a country were all imported via third parties who would then go through fourth parties and sell to the Government. And these were very expensive but we are going to make sure these ARVs and other drugs are now going to be manufactured locally by our own local companies and this will bring down the cost of drugs,” said Dr Mangwiro.

He said Zimbabwe recently managed to make procurement without middlemen and will now use that route while they capacitate local firms.

“Natpharm has not been able to buy drugs directly from the manufacturer in India because the middlemen wanted to do the job himself and supply the Government, not the other way round where the Government buys in bulk and gives the middlemen to distribute.

“However, Natpharm recently went straight to the manufacturer and bought for themselves despite the fretting of the middlemen and we will continue while we capacitate our own industry for the ARV supply,” he said.

Nac chief executive officer Dr Bernard Madzima said the country was going to utilise local drug manufacturing companies for this venture.

“We are looking at companies like CAPS, Varichem, Datlabs and Johnson & Johnson. Those are companies that used to be in Zimbabwe and used to manufacture drugs. There is a need to look at those companies and see how we can make collaborations.

“That way, we are able to save in terms of foreign currency and we are also able to create employment and even export to the region,” he said.

Dr Madzima said Nac was mandated to identify how they could be relevant in terms of manufacturing of life saving ARVs.

However, it is not an overnight process, he said.

“There are a lot of procedures such as getting the active pharmaceutical ingredients, the issue of having the drugs pre-qualified by the World Health Organisation and also the market itself, are we able to absorb, will there be cost benefit. So, these things have to be interrogated.

“If these drugs are WHO pre-qualified then how do our partners come in, remember we also get support in terms of procuring ARVs from Global Fund, Pepfar, so all these things have to be answered. The process has however started,” said Dr Madzima.

He said the short-term measure that has been adopted is to cut the middle men and procure directly from the manufacturer.

“So, all those things are being looked at and the bottom line and wish is to minimise and cut to the lowest level possibly the cost of ARVs.”

He said local manufacturing of ARVs and other drugs is in line with what the Ministry and NAC would also want and to ensure drugs freely available to everyone.-

Vulnerable Mabvuku Women Fall Prey To S-x Pests

By A Correspondent| Some unscrupulous suppliers of water who use bowsers have been accused of preying on vulnerable women demanding sex in return for water in Mabvuku.

The allegations were presented by various women during a Water Dialogue Forum organised by the Combined Harare Residents Association (CHRA), Community Water Alliance and Law Southern Africa.

According to some of the victims the perpetrators include the drivers and volunteers of water bowsers.

“They openly asked for sex in order to supply us with water, we refused and (they) are no longer supplying our section with water”, said an angry woman.

Other women who attended the forum lamented that there has been unfairness in the distribution of water by mobile water bowsers in Mabvuku due to favoritism mainly anchored on sextortion and selling of the water to desperate water seekers.

According to CHRA, “the water situation has not spared even the young women who are succumbing to the demands of the volunteer workers distributing water”.

“The water distribution has increased vulnerabilities among women as they come as late as 7pm distributing water in Mabvuku”, it added.

A Mabvuku Police Victim Friendly Unit representative Sergeant Dube, told participants to report any, ” form of violence against women and girls….to the police.”

Speaking at the same forum the Member of Parliament for Mabvuku-Tafara constituency James Chidhakwa called on for immediate action on the issue.

”We need an urgent meeting with the District Officer because he is in charge of these water suppliers, last time I tried to engage one of the water supplier but I was told that I was interfering and seeking relevance”, said Chidhakwa.

Councilor Wutaunashe of Ward 46 also bemoaned the incapacitation at Harare City Council that has been a barrier to a water project that is set to benefit the Mabvuku-Tafara Constituency.

“The water supply challenges in our area has had serious implications on our people, however there is a partner who want to rehabilitate 36 boreholes and sink four more boreholes in Mabvuku –Tafara”.

“(However) City Officials has not been forthcoming in writing a report on the needs, which is required by the partner and if the papers are not done by Friday this week the partner will pull out”, he said.

Some sections of Mabvuku have not had piped water for decades and most residents rely on open wells and boreholes.

Mabvuku and Tafara has experienced water challenges for several years owing to old pipes and steep gradient, making it difficult for water to be pumped to the area.

This has ultimately increased the risk of water borne diseases such as typhoid.

Govt Demolishes Budiriro Residents Houses, Then Brings Tents. WHATS THAT?

By A Correspondent| Budiriro residents whose houses were demolished by the Harare City Council earlier this month have been promised tents by government which has also urged them to take the culpable land baron to court.

Provincial Development Coordinator for Harare Metropolitan Province Tafadzwa Muguti said government would only provide temporary accommodation otherwise the people had to devise their own ways.

“Tents will be provided to those affected by the rain.

“However it’s a temporary move as they should look for alternative accommodation whilst this housing cooperative should refund fully all their money.

“If they don’t, civil action should commence”, he said.

190 houses were demolished in the area rendering the families homeless whilst also sparking fears about their safety during this rain season.

Let’s Fight Land Barons Not Each Other

Muguti added that it was reckless for various involved parties to blame each other for the demolitions as the main elephant in the room remains the land barons.

“Let’s stop this mud-slinging and address the elephant in the room, the land barons who use political leverage and corrupt Councilors.

“It’s time to stand up and do right by our children”, he added.

A land baron Caleb Kadye has since been arrested after he was accused of selling the illegal stands to the desperate home-seekers.

Kadye’s Reign of Terror

Kadye was previously accused of abusing cooperative funds using them to fund ZANU PF youths during his ill-fated political campaigns.

During the election run off in June 2008 he was infamous in Budiriro 4 for his terror attacks on civilians in the area.

Members of the Tembwe Housing Cooperative often complained of how during cooperative meetings anyone who asked of how funds were utilised was victimised by his funded youths

According to officials the area which Kadye sold as stands was officially designated as a school area.

The residents paid US$2500 for the stands between 2017 and 2018.

The Harare City Council went to court against the cooperative in March 2017 and judgement was only passed in February 2019 after which the illegal settlers were given notice to vacate the area.

The residents did not heed the notice and warnings remaining on the land until the eviction order was implemented earlier this month.

Emergency Passports To Be Issued In Harare Only, Other Towns Disenfranchised

Sensational Kadewere Speaks After Another Impressive Outing

Zimbabwe international Tino Kadewere has given credit to his strike partners Memphis Depay and Karl Toko Ekambi following yet another impressive display by the trio, in last night’s victory over Nice.

Mafume Pays The Price For Destabilising Zanu PF

Tinashe Sambiri|Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume is being persecuted for exposing rampant corruption in the Zanu PF structures, MDC Alliance Youth Assembly Gift Ostallos Siziba has said.

Siziba urged the nation to stand in solidarity with political activists who are being persecuted by Mr Emmerson Mnangagwa’s administration.

See his statement below:
Harare Mayor Jacob Mafume is in prison. He is being persecuted for exposing the regime.

I gather there’s chaos in town house.
I stand in solidarity with Jacob for the regime is coming for all of us, if we don’t speak out no one will.

Don’t be misled by the regime’s faceless troglodytes that the mayor is corrupt- it’s a simple narrative to strike moral equivalence between Zanu PF and the alternative.

What a shame!

Social Media Roundly Rejects National Dress

Social media has roundly rejected the national dress launched yesterday by the first lady Auxillia Mnangagwa in what exposes deep rooted polarisation in Zimbabwe.

The condemnation of the national dress speaks on the timing as Zimbabwe is really in need of healing to do away with partisanship which sees everything done by the present government as a Zanu PF agenda while ruling party supporters treats everything done by the opposition with suspicion.

First to attack was MDC Alliance Spokesperson Fadzai Mahere who raised concern over the prioritization of the national dress at the expense of other more pressing issues.

“8,6 million Zimbabweans are food insecure. The public health system is on its knees. Teachers are incapacitated. Nurses can’t afford transport to go to work. Yet, the “Govt” is focused on this,” said Mahere.

MDC-T member Fungai Chiposi said he was not impressed by the national dress.

“I have been viewing the National Dress images and designs and I am not inspired at all,” said Chiposi.

Another social media user, Thabisa Sibanda accused government of not doing enough consultations before launching the national dress.

“The Zimbabwe National dress is a very good idea. I am not convinced that it has been executed properly. When were the consultations done?,” he said.

Former Herald Editor Tichaona Zindoga said the idea of a national dress is noble but will fail to get traction because of the decision to use the first lady to launch it.

“Idea of a national dress is a noble one, albeit one that has failed to gain traction after several attempts. Latest attempt will likely fail because of perception of it being a hegemonic project. It doesn’t help that one Auxillia Mnangagwa is leading it,” said Zindoga.

SAD NEWS:Mother, Baby Swept Away By Flooded River In Masvingo

A woman and her two-year-old baby from Chatsworth in Masvingo died last week when they were swept away while attempting to cross a flooded Sebakwe River, police have confirmed.

Masvingo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Kudakwashe Dhewa confirmed that Ms Margaret Rashamira (19) and her baby, died on Sunday while attempting to cross the flooded river.

Insp Dhewa said Ms Rashamira was with her husband, Mr Joachim Zviripai, (25) and their two-year-old baby and were on their way to visiting Mr Simon Zviripai, Joachim’s father.

He said when they got to the river, Ms Rashamira, who had the baby strapped the baby on her back, managed to walk about 10 metres into the river and was then swept away by the water.

However, her husband managed to swim to the banks of the river.

“Zviripai tried to help his wife and baby but failed. He then rushed back to the other villagers for assistance and they tried to locate Rashamira and the baby but to no avail.”

Insp Dhewa said the bodies of the two were discovered the following day about 200 metres from where they had attempted to cross.

“We are strongly encouraging people to avoid crossing flooded water bodies especially this rainy season,” he said.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Masvingo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Ezra Chadzamira has urged members of the public to be cautious when travelling along the roads that are still under construction and to avoid crossing flooded rivers.

The Harare-Masvingo-Beitbridge Road is one of the major road developments that is taking place in the country and has a lot of detours, some that are now bad because of the rains.

“It’s the rainy season, the rivers are flooding, it is important that we don’t cross flooded rivers. On the roads let’s travel safely as most of our roads are still under construction,” he said.

Sports Journalists To Be Honoured

Sports journalists in the country will have something to smile about when the Sports Writers Association of Zimbabwe (Swaz) hosts the inaugural Sports Media Awards at the Harare Sports Club tomorrow.

Awards to be handed out tomorrow are Sports Journalist of the Year, Female Sports Reporter of the Year, Sports Photographer of the Year and Young Sports Writer of the Year. There are also to be special prizes for coverage of various sport codes across the categories of print, electronic and online media.

Tanganda Tea Company, National Foods, Herentals Group of Colleges and Zimbabwe Cricket are some of the organisations that have come on board to partner Swaz for the awards.

A Swaz spokesperson said the idea to have the awards was inspired by the fact that 2020 was a difficult year because of Covid-19, which saw little sporting activity in Zimbabwe.

“The event is borne out of the need to reward and encourage essential personnel who remained unwavering to duty in a year decimated by the global coronavirus pandemic and ensured the public was well-informed regardless and still received their favourite sports news and programmes,’’ the spokesperson said.

Several dignitaries from the local sports industry have been invited for what will be the only sporting awards function in the country this year. Sports and Recreation Commission acting director-general Sebastian Garikai will be the guest of honour at the ceremony.-The Sunday News

Ex Q “Musalala” Speaks On Career

Popular rapper Ex Q (real name Enoch Munhenga) in an interview with Digest said he has managed to stay relevant when his peers, fellow urban groove singers fizzled out into oblivion because of his hard work, Newsday reports.

Said the hitmaker:

I was blessed by God, He gave me a second chance to be part of the music industry also, it’s God who has taken me this far. I am also blessed that I have a good team that understands my art, a good team that understands that sometimes I need more time to work on my music and also to give direction and experiment on a lot of things, shout out to my team, I am blessed.

With God, everything is possible and it happens at his time. I work hard, and I really take my time. Other

artistes from urban grooves may also blow up. Again it might take time, but as long as they are in the industry and have passion for it, they will keep going.

I was lucky because I believe with my first song Musalala that is when my breakthrough came because

soon after I started doing live shows. I released another one and then started performing the two songs for two years and from there the rest is history.

Ex Q lamented the slow growth if not the regression of the music industry in Zimbabwe and said:

To be honest the music industry is not growing, it is getting worse because I remember when we started, without shows we used to sell cassettes and CDs. As for me, when I released my first cassette, I did well and I knew the number of copies that I sold and my life changed through selling music.

Now it is hard because we rarely sell music as people are now relying on shows and few corporates, but these corporates don’t release money, if they release, the person between the corporates and the artiste would want a bigger share and they don’t want to give artistes what they deserve. So at the end of the day things are getting worse and also with our economy it’s hard.

The corporate side is not really supportive. So if the economy gets back on its feet then the music industry will also do well.

Ex Q over the years has collaborated with a lot of artists that include Freeman, Tocky Vibes, Amara Brown just to name a few.-NewsDay

About Fadza Mutengi Wedoro Hitmaker. ..

Auxillia Mum About Tortured Marry Chiwenga , Moves On To Launch Own National-Dress…

At a time when she has said not a word about her tortured colleague, Marry Chiwenga, Emmerson Mnangagwa’s wife, Auxillia, has moved to create a national dress.

Emmerson Mnangagwa yesterday launched her National Dress Fabric at a colourful event at State House, marking the first time that the country has been able to settle on a national dress style since 1980.

Auxillia Mnangagwa spearheaded the search for the National Dress after embarking on comprehensive consultations with various stakeholders and different ethnic groups from all the country’s 10 provinces.

The National Dress encompasses national symbols such as the Zimbabwe bird, the National Flag and the Chevron pattern. Various designs of the dress were showcased at a glamorous fashion show held at State House.

Speaking after launching the National Dress Fabric, President Mnangagwa lauded the First Lady for spearheading the milestone achievement that is crucial to promoting and preserving national identity.

He said the National Dress also promotes unity among Zimbabweans, in light of Unity Day, which will be commemorated on Tuesday.

The President said the National Dress will contribute to convey Zimbabwe’s culture, ways of life, values and belief systems.

“I am enthused that fashion and design now plays an equally important role with other artistic fields in our national development discourse. I therefore want to appreciate all the fashion designers and stakeholders in the textile industry for this achievement,” Emmerson Mnangagwa said.

He said Government would set aside days when people would wear the fabric.

Mnangagwa implored the media to popularise the National Dress while encouraging the fashion and arts sectors to do the same.

In her remarks, Amai Mnangagwa, who is patron of the National Dress Fabric, said she intended the national dress to depict the country’s traditions, history, national heritage and aspirations while being appropriate to all social and religious gatherings.

In addition, the fabric had to embrace all ethnic groups and historic backgrounds while embracing submissions from all the country’s 10 provinces.

Consultations involved various ministries, researchers, academics, traditional leaders, designers, historians, various women and church groups.

The First Lady said she decided to take up the matter to come up with a National Dress Fabric as many Zimbabweans had no idea of what to wear during national events, leading many to adopt foreign styles.

“Today, we witness the launch of the National Dress as well as the Fashion Show where various designs of the national fabric are on display. We also look at the way this fabric can be designed so that it aligns well with the drive to instill nationalism among Zimbabweans near and far.

Yesterday, the President and First Lady toured stands where the fabric was being exhibited in various designs.

Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga, Cabinet Ministers and senior officials from the Government and Zanu-PF attended the event. -Sunday Mail

Liverpool Thrash Crystal Palace

JORDAN HENDERSON has labelled aspects of Liverpool’s 7-0 rout against Crystal Palace “sloppy” as the Reds backed up their midweek win against Spurs with a dominant display.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were in a ruthless mood yesterday afternoon as the Premier League champions demonstrated that they will take some beating for the title as they swept aside a sorry Palace at Selhurst Park. Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah each got a brace, while Sadio Mane, Takumi Minamino and Henderson added to the tally to give Klopp’s side breathing space at the top of the table.

The Reds captain was on the scoresheet as Jurgen Klopp’s men put in a devastating display.

But Henderson reflected that, while the Reds were ruthless, certain parts of Liverpool’s game was off the mark, characterising the meticulous nature of Klopp’s champions.

“I thought we were ruthless today,” the Liverpool captain told BT Sport.

“We took our chances which was so important. We dominated the game for large periods.

“I thought we were a little sloppy at times overall, but we were delighted with the result and the performance.

“To come here against a good team and to finish this week off with a win after midweek is important and we managed to do that.”

However, Henderson says his side could have done certain things better during the game.

Klopp’s side extended their lead at the top of the league table after yesterday’s victory.

The German gaffer will certainly be delighted with the response of his side following their dramatic win over title challengers Tottenham at Anfield.

Liverpool’s consistency saw them stroll to the title last season and Henderson is under no illusions that the good performances need to be maintained over the busy festive period.

“We have got to keep going and work hard. Over Christmas it’s difficult for everyone and we need to pick up the wins.”

Liverpool hold a six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table ahead of the remaining games over the weekend.-The Sunday Mail

Emergency Passport Only In Harare

-Sunday Mail

Kadewere brilliance continues as Lyon Thumps OG Nice

Isheanesu Mutyambizi| Tinotenda Kadewere seems to be enjoying life in the French Ligue 1, as he scored for the second time in a row for his side Olympique Lyon, beating OG Nice in emphatic fashion.

The Les Gones which is the clubs nickname which means “The Kids”, are now unbeaten in the last eight Ligue 1 away games (W6 D2), after having lost four of their previous six matches (W1 D1). The club’s captain Memphis Depay was the first to score from the penalty spot, followed by Tinotenda Kadewere who slotted it home after a defensive error to give the visitors a two goal lead.

OG Nice replied before the end of the first half through Amine Gouiri, to give the host a glimpse of hope in the second half. But two goals from Karl Toko Ekambi and Houssem Aouar put the game out of reach for The Eagles, with the scoreline 4-1 at the end of regulation. This was the first time in 2020 Lyon scored four goals in an away game in the league and the club is aiming to maintain its amazing run, as they are believed to rival against the French giants Paris Saint Germain for the title this season.

Zim Ready For Covid-19 Vaccines

Khupe, Komichi, Mwonzora

Dear Dr. Khupe, Dr. Komichi and Senator Mwonzora,

I have seen notices from the MDC-T 2014 Matebelenand South and Harare Provincial leadership teams instructing people from their respective provinces not to attend the Extra-Ordinary Congress which was due to be held on 19 December 2020 because the due process as provided for in the MDC Constitution was not followed in conducting provincial elections for the Presidency. These provinces are dead right, and I also read an admission of guilty circulated by Dr Komichi in which he wrote: “After exhaustive deliberations of the National Standing Committee the Extra-Ordinary Congress that should take place tomorrow, Saturday 19 December 2020 has been moved further to a date to be advised soon”. That was a brilliant statement, Dr Komichi, except that I am not sure which Standing Committee you were referring to, whether the MDC-T 2014 Standing Committee or the unconstitutional Standing Committee that was handpicked to organise the Extra-Ordinary Congress.

The real Extra-Ordinary Congress of the MDC-T ordered by the Supreme Court is only one that is called for by the appropriate MDC-T 2014 structures, and anything short of that is bogus and will be challenged in the courts. Already I have read an intention by someone in the MDC-T 2014 South Africa Province to take the bogus MDC-T leadership to the courts if they had unconstitutionally proceeded with the Congress, and that is a good warning that should not be taken lightly.

All the recalls from Parliament and local authorities by the bogus leadership, which were unfortunately endorsed by Parliament and Government are not in line with the Supreme Court judgement which recommended the holding of an Extra-Ordinary Congress. The simple mandate given to Dr Khupe, and if she failed to Dr Komichi by the Supreme Court was simply to call for an Extra-Ordinary Congress to replace the late Dr Richard Morgan Tsvangirai as President of the MDC-T, and nothing extra. The fact that a time limit was given meant that should that fail, the parties would continue the way they were operating until the Supreme Court ruling was announced.

So, Dr Komichi, we are back to square one, the 2014 MDC-T structures must re-start the preparations for the Extra-Ordinary Congress without delay. I emphasise to you that the so-called Standing Committee which deliberated on 18 December 2020 and decided to postpone the Extra-Ordinary Congress is not the legitimate 2014 MDC-T Standing Committee and should never have been involved in the Congress preparation process in the first place. Khaliphani Pugeni is already on record concerning that the 9 May 2020 WhatsApp based Council meeting which kicked off the Extra-Ordinary Congress planning process was not properly constituted, so everything was flawed from the onset.

If the Extra-Ordinary Congress that abides by the MDC Constitution and in the extended timeframe given by the Supreme Court, then all the recalled legislators and councillors must be reinstated to their positions, and it is very unfortunate that Parliament of Zimbabwe and Government of Zimbabwe took sides before the Supreme Court judgement to elect a replacement of the MDC-T leader had been implemented.

Many people, myself included, have advised, advised and advised against the way the bogus Council and Standing Committee were handling things, and I even advised that the MDC was born out of the ZCTU, hence there was need to seek ZCTU mediation, and all my advice fell on deaf ears, only to read a statement from the ZCTU that someone in the bogus Standing Committee had falsely communicated that the ZCTU were to be supervising the election process on 19 December 2020.

Dr Komichi, Dr Khupe, Senator Mwonzora and all those you were working with in this failed project, accept you have failed to manage this, and resign in shame. Ask yourselves if you really deserve the respect of the people who have stood with the MDC since its formation.

Armed Robbers Raid Farm

TEN gun-toting robbers on Sunday pounced on a Rusape farm and assaulted security guards before looting irrigation equipment worth thousands of dollars.

In a well-executed robbery that took place at Tara Farm on December 13, the robbers assaulted the security guards while others loaded their loot in a lorry.

The farm owner, whose name has not yet been established, tried in vain to give chase, but abandoned the mission after his vehicle ran out of fuel. Deputy Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luxson Chananda confirmed the robbery.

“Ten gun-toting robbers pounced at Tara Farm and disarmed the first security guard who was manning the main gate. They severely assaulted him with logs and sticks before gaining entry into the main premises.

“They assaulted the other two guards before tying up all of them. The robbers stole irrigation centre pivots, 14 tyres, several gearboxes, several electric motors, spanners and the guards’ cellphones. They loaded the stolen goods into their truck and drove off,” said Insp Chananda.

A chief security officer at the farm arrived at the scene just after the robbery and called the farm owner who quickly reacted and followed the robbers in a high-speed chase.

He, however, ran out of fuel.

The 10 are still at large and police are appealing to members of the public for information that will lead to the arrest of the suspects.

Meanwhile, three unknown machete-wielding robbers pounced on a trader in Middle Sabi and made good their escape with portable radios.

“Kayembe Batiyanga was selling his wares in Middle Sabi and upon approaching Farm 31 Compound, the three robbers demanded cash from him. He did not surrender anything and so they assaulted him all over the body. They stole two portable radios and went away. Batiyanga tried to follow them, but they threatened to kill him with machetes,” said Insp Chananda.

The suspects are still at large.-The Manica Post

Marshall Munetsi Faces Suspension…

Stade de Reims midfielder Marshall Munetsi is facing another suspension in the 2020/21 French Ligue 1 season.

The Zimbabwean is just one yellow card away from the ban, his third in this campaign. He is expected to feature tonight against Olympique de Marseille but should avoid a booking so that he won’t miss the trip to Bordeaux on Wednesday.

Munetsi’s first suspension was from a red card which ruled him out of the clash against PSG in September before accumulating three yellow cards ahead of the Lorient match in October.

These are the only games that he has missed this term, having featured in all the other thirteen matches in the league.

Meanwhile, the Marseille clash starts at 8 pm Zimbabwean time.-Soccer 24

Divisions Rock Arsenal FC

Arsenal players are reportedly angry at Mikel Arteta’s preferential treatment towards some players.

According to The Athletic, the growing discontent in the Gunners’ dressing room followed after Willian was permitted to start the game against Leeds United last month just days after taking an unauthorised trip to Dubai.

This left some members of the squad feeling that certain players would have been punished or left out of the starting line-up if they did something similar.

The players are also reportedly unhappy after David Luiz reacted angrily for being left out for the Manchester United game earlier this season as an injury precaution even though he felt fully fit.

These divisions, coupled with poor results, have now left Arteta under-pressure. The team is currently sitting in the 15th place with fourteen points from 13 games.-Soccer 24

State Of The Art Health Facility For Vic Falls

By A Correspondent- Preparations for the building of a state-of-the-art hospital in the tourist resort of Victoria Falls by International Health Delivery (IHD) have begun with consultations over location of the medical institution currently underway.

The construction of the health centre is expected to begin in a year’s time.

IHD executive director Chitwan Malhotra yesterday said the hospital was being built not only to be a medical referral centre for Zimbabweans, but also for those in the Sadc region.

“We need to boost the health infrastructure in the Victoria Falls and we will be setting up a state-of-the-art hospital in Victoria Falls which will be equipped with the most recent technologies,” Malhorta said.

“It will not only for the people of Zimbabwe, but also for people from neighbouring countries who will be coming for treatment, diagnostics and medication.”

She said the aim was to make the hospital part of medical tourism in the region.

“The hospital is a big project and it has a lot of stakeholders involved. This includes the local authority, Health and Local Government ministries. For this project to be on the ground, it will require a year of work with the ministry and other stakeholders.”

She said the location of the land where the hospital will be set up is yet to be identified. The location, she added, should be strategically placed within the resort town.

Mafume Arrested To Pave Way For Councillor Mukunguma

By A Correspondent- Harare Mayor, Councillor Jacob Mafume was arrested for alleged criminal abuse of office after he had reportedly parcelled out council stands to his sister.

His arrest has triggered varying opinion with some, especially those aligned to the opposition MDC Alliance, saying it was politically motivated.

Following his arrest, his deputy, Councillor Luckson Mukunguma was elevated to the post of Mayor. Ironically, he had been arrested on 16 December but is already back in the office.

Speaking on the matter, Jealousy Mawarire, the spokesperson for the National Patriotic Front suggested that Mafume’s arrest was a strategy to clear the path for Mukunguma’s elevation.

He said:

I thot Harare Deputy Mayor, Luckson Mukunguma was arrested last week, how come he is Acting Mayor? So the arrest of Harare Mayor @JMafume is meant to elevate Mukunguma to the post of Mayor which he lost to Mafume @PoliceZimbabwe & the judiciary in Zim are being abused by Junta-PF

He was arrested last week on allegations of fraud, how come he is not in remand prison like others?

Mukunguma was arrested on 16 December for alleged criminal abuse of office. On the 17th of December, he was already back in office reinstating some of the council officials whose cases are still pending.

This is happening when the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works has issued a directive which notes that council employees facing criminal charges should not report for duty until their cases are finalised at the courts.

Mukunguma, a local businessman who is also the chairperson of the council’s finance committee, is a member of the MDC-T led by Thokozani Khupe.

He contested to replace ousted Harare Mayor Herbert Gomba but lost to MDC Alliance representative, Jacob Mafume, after securing 14 votes while Mafume garnered 19.

Mashakada Clears Air On Postponement Of Extra Ordinary Congress

MDC-T’s acting spokesperson Tapiwa Mahakada has confirmed the postponement of the party’s extraordinary congress.

Below is his statement.

19 December 2020

MDC-T Extra-Ordinary Congress: Latest developments

I have to advise all our MDC-T party structures, supporters, and delegates that the much-awaited EOC has been postponed to a date to be soon advised.

This development has been necessitated by logistical challenges that we had underestimated and these are being sorted out so that the party holds a seamless Extra-Ordinary Congress.

We owe it to our members to hold a transparent, democratic and credible Congress that will elect the successor to our late iconic leader, Dr Morgan Richard Tsvangirai. The decision to postpone Congress was arrived at after all the contestants agreed that more preparations needed to be done in order to deliver a credible Congress that will reflect the will of the 4500 MDC-T delegates.

The four contestants are Dr Thokozani Khupe, the Acting President, Engineer Elias Mudzuri, the Acting Vice National Chairperson, Dr Morgen Komichi, the, National Chairman and Advocate Douglas Mwonzora, the Secretary-General.

“PP Did Not Consult Superiors On Robber’s Case”: Report

By A Correspondent- The Public prosecutor (PP) Tapiwa Kusema who consented to bail in Musa Abdul’s case and was later arrested on charges of criminal abuse of office, reportedly did not seek approval from his superiors for bail concessions beforehand, The Herald reports.

The matter came to light in court during his bail hearing when the officer investigating his case Detective Assistant Inspector Collius Mushambi gave testimony in court and said:

There are standard operating procedures, clearly outlining how the accused is supposed to operate as far as consent to bail to accused arrested for armed robberies, firearms or violence is concerned.

There is a memorandum dated November 19, 2020 from accused’s superiors reminding law officers how they were to operate in respect of violent crimes.

The section dealing with bail consents made it clear that “all consents must first of all be approved by your superior. No one should file a consent without the knowledge of your superior regardless of the nature of the offence

Det Mushambi also said the police are afraid if Kusema is granted bail he will abscond trial: (The) matter was brought to police on Monday and with a view to arrest the accused, we visited the address which was known to police. Accused did note reside there but it was his parents’ address and we left a message that he was being sought by police

We later managed to obtain the actual address of accused on Tuesday and again a message was left that he was wanted by police. We could not locate him the whole of Wednesday and did not report for work. He came to the police yesterday (Wednesday) accompanied by his defence counsel.

“He said he was consulting legal practitioners when we asked about his whereabouts. We discovered that the coming of accused to police was after he had realised that he could not hide because the matter was on social media. There are submissions prepared by accused consenting to bail for applicants filed at High Court of Zimbabwe, a copy is with police,

He further said if he is granted bail in which he is accused of abusing his office in Musa Abdul’s bail, there might be a public disorder because they have received numerous calls on the issue:

There will be public disorder. There is public outcry over the matter. There were several calls to the police asking what was happening and that alone may cause people not to trust the justice delivery of the country

The hearing will provisionally continue on Monday if the magistrate is available.-statemedia

Gringo’s “Real” Wife Distances Self From Estate Wrangle

By Correspondent- The woman who was legally married to Gringo has distanced herself from Gringo’s alleged relative’s statements that Gringo’s son is conniving with her to fix the woman who was now married to Netsai Meki at the time of this death.

Memory Chisinga who is reportedly legally married to Gringo since 2002 spoke to the publication and said she doesn’t want anything from the late comedian’s estate because she is OK.

This was reportedly after Netsai Meki, the woman Gringo was married to when he died tried to register his estate only to be told he is legally married to Chisinga. Chisinga is saying she is being abused on social media as people claim she is behind the chaos marring the late Gringo’s family.

Said Chisinga:

I have a life here in South Africa. I left Gringo when I was seven months pregnant and my boy is now 17 years old. I don’t want anything to do with his so called estate. I am happy with what I have,

I have instructed my relative to send me the marriage certificate to prove to the world but unfortunately the person who knows the whereabouts of  the papers  is not at home. I left Gringo in 2003 because of his insecurities.

Meki should not drag me in their dirty shenanigans rather she should deal with others. I was done with Gringo, 17 years ago and I don’t need anything. I raised my children single handedly. Why claim his properties now? I don’t have issues with Meki as I have never met her.

“Remember if I wanted anything to do with the late I would have sued her for adultery damages because I was legally married when she moved in with him

Chisinga even said she was aware of Gringo’s illness and her friends even helped Gringo during the time he was in dire need:

I am not part of the Boora family but I have children so I hear everything that happens there.

I have a very good relationship with other family members.

I knew about his illness from day one. My friends Jackie Ngarande and Pokello helped in paying for his surgery last year, but ungrateful Meki had the guts to say . . . (Aah taifunga kuti vabatsira because they love Gringo ndaisatoziva kuti ishamwari dzamai Tanaka).

Who does that? I didn’t come to the funeral but my family represented me.

If I was selfish, I would have taken the next flight to Zimbabwe the moment I heard about Gringo’s death.

I would have used my marriage certificate and taken over as the surviving spouse or worse sued Meki for adultery damages, like said before. I have long moved on and don’t stoop that low.

Meanwhile, Gringo’s memorial service was held at night last week after his son Taurai said he could not attend earlier as he was attending a wedding.

Chamisa Traces Party Achievements

By A Correspondent- MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has taken to social media to detail what the opposition has achieved since its formation in the late 90s.

Sharing a picture of him and the MDC founding father Morgan Tsvangirai, on Facebook, the firebrand politician said they have remained strong over the years and they are still standing 2 decades later before adding that it is difficult to fight a dictatorship with open arms.

Said Chamisa:

Our BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT over the years has been to remain standing & keeping the fight for real change. It’s not easy to fight dictatorship only with open palms, bare hands and on the platform of peace. We are not ashamed of our non-violence path to the future.

Waging a consistent fight for freedom, democracy & transformation is a major score and no mean achievement. We have a solid vision, clear policies, precise goals and effective strategies…After the persecution, trials, betrayals and tribulations victory kicks in. Victory is certain! It’s coming.

This comes after some people have started stating that the youthful politician has no strategy to defeat the current administration adding that he has been silent while the Khupe led faction is recalling legislators and councilors and he has no strategy to stop the faction which according to them is working together with the government to silence him. Chamisa during his mother’s memorial service early this month said silence is also a strategy.

RG Sued Over Passport Spelling Error

By A Correspondent- Mr Nqobani Sithole a lawyer based in Bulawayo is suing the registrar-general(RG)’s office in his personal capacity for misspellings and errors in words and phrases written in Ndebele in the Zimbabwean passport.

In the papers filed by Sithole at the High court which cites the RG as a respondent, he attributed the errors and misspellings to the RG’s offices.

In his founding affidavit, Sithole stated that:

I am a Zimbabwean citizen and entitled to a number of rights and freedoms including the freedom of movement and residence as set out in section 66 (1) (c) of the Constitution, which encompasses the right to have a passport.

The same Constitution in section 6 (3) (a) guarantees every person’s right to the use of a language of one’s choice.

I am a native speaker of IsiNdebele language, which does not only define my culture, but millions of others in Zimbabwe

I am very worried that a trend has developed in Zimbabwe about a seemingly determined effort to decimate, mutilate and generally treat with disdain my language IsiNdebele by the Registrar-General. Recently, police did the same when social media was awash with pictures of a sign post at Magwegwe Police Station showing Magwegwe written as Magwegewe

The single word ‘kayikhululi’ has been wrongly split to appear as if there are two separate words kayi khululi. On pages 46, 47 and 48, in paragraph two after the header of page, the IsiNdebele word ‘akuvunyelwa’ has been wrongly written ‘akuvhunyelwa.

On pages 46, 47 and 48, in paragraph two in line two (after the header to the page, the IsiNdebele word ‘kwalokho’ has been wrongly written as ‘kwaloko.

According to the publication here are some of the words and phrases in the passport that must be corrected by the Registra general’s office:

Some of the phrases that he is challenging include: “Ukuthathelwa labo ababe belayo”, which he wants substituted with “ukuthathelwa lowo ozabe elayo.”

Mr Sithole said the words “okunga fanelanga” must be replaced with a single word “okungafanelanga” with “we pasipoti” being substituted with “wephasipoti.” He argued that the word “ivhiza” was not proper and should be replaced with “iviza” and “ukuphatwa” with “ukuphathwa.”

Other words that Mr Sithole wants corrected are “emphahleni” which he said should read “empahleni”, “kwaloko” should be substituted with “kwalokho.”

He said “isidhindo” should be substituted with “isidindo” and “epejini” with “ephejini.”

The registr-general’s office is yet to respond. Meanwhile the registra general is on suspension on alleged abuse of office charges.-statemedia

We Need A Functional Economy: Open ZISCO, CSC, NRZ, CCZ First !

By Tinashe Eric Muzamhindo- Few days ago, I read a statement about the First lady Amai Auxilia Mnangagwa coming up with an initiative ” National Dress Code”, which she is going to confer or launch, for some of words, it is word on the streets, we are not aware of the definition, the objective, and some of these events are not necessary considering the burden of our national fiscus.

Government must have priorities prior to economic development targets using the economic recovery framework.

We need a functional economy, backed by increase in productivity. Some of these state functions, banquets, dinners, breakfasts clearly shows lack of priorities in service delivery at hand.

We need a hands on leadership which must get to the ground, use development and economic indicators to come up with a Strategic Thinking framework to rescue the former SADC breadbasket economy.

Launching such a project at the time when over 80% of citizens are facing a bleak x mas clearly shows that leadership may be out of touch with what is on the ground.

I’m failing to understand what the national dress code will help our economy, and what is the key objective prior to the project? We have ailing state companies like Mineral Marketing Corporation of Zimbabwe, NRZ, Cold Storage Commission, and many others, it is my hope that Government must set their priorities right, by redirecting expenditure to the mainstream economy.

Economy is production, and increase in exports, therefore by settling our balance of payments. National Dress Code must be done by corporate world or backed by corporate world using corporate social responsibility ( CSR).

Focus must be on :

1. Redirection of expenditure to the critical sectors of the economy such as Agriculture, infrastructure development, mining, industry, tourism and private sector
2. Address the huge local and external debt. We have a debt obligation which must be addressed.

3. A proper National Development plan
4. Citizen perspective is very important. Engage citizens
5. Seperate politics and Development
6. Introduce a proper business model to run this country
7. Cabinet reshuffle is long over due
8. Policy direction of the country is critical.
9. Cut expenditure. Unnecessary state functions must be banned. Make use of District and provincial officials to officially open small and non existing footbridges.
10. Liberalize economy. Allow all players to participate in economic activities. We have projects like Command Agriculture which must be open to everyone for bidding purposes. State Procurement Board must be regulated in line with Parliamentary Act.
11. What is the role of Deputy Ministers? Do we need Deputy Ministers in all ministries?

12. Review of investment policy. Nature of deals must be reviewed
13. We need a proper Economic Recovery framework/ Plan
14. Leadership should be a reflection. You need a mirror for reflection. Political acumenship is very important.

15. Our nation must not depend on handouts. Creat employment. Pour money in the mainstream economy.
16. Privatization of state companies is the way to go.
17. Devolution policy framework
18. Strategic Engagements is important.

19. Human Rights obligations
20. We need a Solution oriented and focused thinking development framework

Hopefully this statement will circulate in leadership circles including civic society, Government, heads of parastatals, church, Research oriented Organizations and all citizens.

We need a clear plan for our country !!!

SA Can Nudge Zimbabwe Towards Stability- Not Until Zimbabweans Finally Deal With Gadflies

By Nomusa Garikai- “For years, South Africa trusted in behind-the-scenes contacts to alleviate Zimbabwe’s political and economic problems. But those troubles have continued to mount.

By stepping up pressure, and by working with Washington on reform guidelines, Pretoria can help Harare find a way out of its crisis,” argued International Crisis Group in the article How South Africa Can Nudge Zimbabwe toward Stability.

Whilst Pretoria and the rest of the world can do a lot to help end Zimbabwe’s economic and political crisis it must be said that all their efforts will come to nothing if we, the Zimbabwean people, are seen to be doing nothing to help ourselves, at best. Or, at worst, keep shooting ourselves in the foot!

The 2008 to 2013 GNU was a golden opportunity to end the Zanu PF dictatorship and we wasted that opportunity. And, as if that was not bad enough, many Zimbabwe have failed to appreciate what the GNU was about even to this day. Indeed, some even have the chutzpah to blade SADC leaders for our own failures.

The West, especially the Americans, went the extra mile in trying to get Mnangagwa to honour his promise to hold free, fair and credible elections following the November 2017 military coup. The Americans gave him a checklist of the reforms needed to ensure free, fair and credible elections.

As we know Zanu PF ignored the reforms and went on to blatantly rig the July 2018 elections.

What is more, it was not only Zanu PF that ignored the reforms! The MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa and the rest of the opposition camp ignored the call for reforms too. ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll, a legal as well as a common sense requirement, and still the opposition participated in the elections regardless.

By participating in the flawed and illegal elections, the MDC A et al gave the process credibility and, by extension, the result legitimacy. The opposition knew this and still they proceeded out of greed, as David Coltart readily admitted.

“The worst aspect for me about the failure to agree a coalition was that both MDCs couldn’t now do the obvious – withdraw from the elections,” wrote Senator Coltart in his Book, The Struggle Continues 50 years of Tyranny in Zimbabwe.

“The electoral process was so flawed, so illegal, that the only logical step was to withdraw, which would compel SADC to hold Zanu PF to account. But such was the distrust between the MDC-T and MDC-N that neither could withdraw for fear that the other would remain in the elections, winning seats and giving the process credibility.”

As a way forward the International Crisis Group is call for a Zanu PF and MDC A coalition government.

“Given the entrenched corruption at the top of the ZANU-PF government that risks sinking the country, it is clear that only a broader-based ruling coalition can create the kind of foundation for good governance that the country needs. South Africa and the ANC should thus maintain pressure on the government to enter talks with the opposition and civil society to review possible economic reforms that keep front and centre the interests of Zimbabwe’s people and not just its ruling party.”

Only someone who have failed to grasp or does not want to grasp the political reality in Zimbabwe would suggest a Zanu PF and MDC A coalition as a way forward. We have been here before, the 2008 to 2013 GNU was even better than a coalition in that the GNU partners were obliged by the 2008 Global Political Agreement to implement the raft of democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections. As we know, the 2008 GNU failed to implement even one reform in five years. It is naive to suggest a coalition would do any better.

After 40 years of rigging elections and getting away with it, Zanu PF must be told in no uncertain terms that the people’s right to free, fair and credible elections is not a privilege. And therefore the democratic reforms to ensure free and fair elections must be implemented in full; it is not an à la carte menu but table d’hôte.

If Zanu PF goes ahead and hold the 2023 elections with no reforms in place, as the party has done repeatedly in the past, then Mnangagwa and company must know that this time the election will be declared null and void. Zanu PF will not be allowed to get away with another rigged elections.

The MDC leaders sold-out big time by failing to implement the democratic reforms during the 2008 to 2013 GNU. By participating in these flawed and illegal elections the opposition is giving legitimacy to a vote rigging regime. This is totally unacceptable and must stop forthwith.

No stone will be left unturned to make sure all those opposition politicians who participated in these flawed and illegal elections are exposed for what they are – sell-outs! A discredited opposition will not give legitimacy to a vote rigging Zanu PF government.

Zimbabwe’s economic and political crisis has dragged on for 40 years and counting because we, the people of Zimbabwe, have shied away from dealing with the curse of rigged elections, the elephant in the room. Today the country is standing on the very edge of the abyss; millions of our people are living in abject poverty and basic services like education and health care have all but collapsed; this is a do or die situation.

We must implemented the democratic reforms, restore the right of all Zimbabweans to a meaningful say in the governance of the country and thus finally end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance. 2023 elections must be free, fair and credible or will be declared null and void!

“How South Africa can nudge Zimbabwe toward stability!” SA, SADC and the West have done their best to nudge Zimbabwe in the right directions without much success because we, the ordinary Zimbabweans, out of ignorance, etc., were not ready to move. Pray, we are finally ready to deal with the vote rigging gadflies and their sell-out acolytes!

Murdered Murehwa Boy’s Burial Date Announced

The family of seven-year-old Murehwa boy, Tapiwa Makore, who was murdered on 17 September has set the 9th of January next year as the burial date for his remains.

The family through their lawyer, Tabitha Chikeya, wrote to the police saying they would have wished to bury him with all his body parts but it seems the other parts can’t be located.

A few days ago, police released some of the DNA forensic results from the case, confirming that the abdomen, legs and palm belonged to the deceased, while results of the skull are yet to be released.

Speaking to The Herald after meeting with Chief Mangwende of Murehwa on the possibility of burying the deceased, Tapiwa’s father, Munyaradzi Makore said:

It was our wish to bury our son with all his body parts but we have finally decided to bury him without his head. We are going to bury what is there on January 9 next year so that we can find closure.

We would like to express our gratitude to fellow Zimbabweans for standing with us during these hard times.

Tapiwa’s mother, Linda Munyori said with three months gone since the murder of her son, she felt that it was high time her “son’s spirit rests. Burying him will also bring comfort to us.”

She added:

As a mother, it pains me to bury my son without his head but there is nothing we can do.

Tapiwa’s uncle, Barnabas Makore, appealed to well-wishers to assist in the burial proceedings saying they won’t be able to manage the funeral on their own.

This is happening as Thanks Makore who was the prime suspect in the apparent ritual murder of his nephew was on Friday released from remand on a ZW$10 000 bail on the basis that there was nothing linking him to the offence.

Thanks was arrested after his co-accused Tapiwa Makore Snr, Tafadzwa Shamba and Maud Hunidzarira who are still in remand, had claimed that he was the mastermind behind the murder.

They claimed Thanks offered to pay them US$1 500 for the head and arms of the deceased.

By A Correspondent- A 41 year old married woman from Mpopoma, a Bulawayo suburb died under unclear circumstances after spending a night at a boyfriend’s house.

Chronicle reports that the woman, Ms Siphilisiwe Nkomo, was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where she was pronounced dead after having breathing difficulties while at Mr Jona Chigovanyika’s house on Wednesday morning.

The cause of her death is yet to be established as police are still waiting for a post-mortem report. Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Abednico Ncube, said police were treating the matter as sudden death and investigations were underway.

Ncube said:

I can confirm that a woman identified as Siphilisiwe Nkomo (41) of Mpopoma was pronounced dead on arrival at Mpilo Central Hospital. We are now waiting for post-mortem results to establish the cause of death.

Chronicle was told that Ms Nkomo was drinking beer at a local tavern when Mr Chigovanyika approached her and drank beer together before deciding to spend the night at Mr Chigovanyika’s house.

The woman died at around 10 am after she was rushed to hospital having breathing difficulties.

The relative said Ms Nkomo’s decision to sleep over at Chigovanyika’s place is shocking considering that she was married.

Juvenile Impregnanted After Watching P_ornographic Movies

By A Correspondent- A 13 year old girl from Mwenezana estate, a sugarcane compound in Ngundu allegedly got pregnant after sex with a 24-year-old man who she would watch videos with from a laptop at night.

The family of Justice Tsvuke (24) who is alleged to have impregnated the juvenile offered to pay lobola and arrange a marriage.

Tizirai Pedzisai, the juvenile’s brother would however, not contemplate marriage of a 13-year-old and he reported the matter at Ngundu Police Station. He even refused to entertain the matter when the two families were called for discussion at village Head Maride’s homestead.

Milton Rukovo, the accused’s brother said he was not at liberty to discuss family matter with Two Nations.

Efforts to get a comment from Tsvuke were futile.

The juvenile has since given birth to a baby boy.

Pedzisai said the two had sex when the girl’s mother was away. The two would watch movies from the laptop until the juvenile’s siblings fell asleep and then they would engage in sex.

The juvenile’s mother discovered the pregnancy after being tipped off by other neighbors.

“Govt’s Policy Inconsistencies Hamper Development”

By A Correspondent- Industry and Commerce minister Sekai Nzenza has admitted that inconsistent and often outdated policies hinder implementation of key government strategies.

Nzenza was responding to Norton legislator Temba Mliswa, who accused the government of having too many economic strategy documents without reviewing or learning from the mistakes of previous blueprints at the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) sixth annual business review conference on Thursday.

“We grow tobacco in this country. Ninety-nine percent of the tobacco grown in this country is going out as raw and the finished product is sold elsewhere,” Nzenza said at the business ZNCC business review.

“Why can’t we make cigarettes inside this country, create jobs and bring in foreign currency inside this country? We now have a strategy which we are working with the Lands, Agriculture, Water and Rural Resettlement ministry. What is required going forward is that we will break down those silos between line ministries and work together cause that has been the problem where we don’t necessarily work together.”

She said there was need for ministries to work together as there was a whole value chain process to be explored.

“One of the key areas we are looking at, ladies and gentlemen, is the sugar industry — and, yes, I will admit that not only have some of our policies been inconsistent, some of them have been outdated,” Nzenza said.

“The Sugar Act, for example, goes back to 1964, but we are working on it and are already getting input from the private sector and the sugar farmers themselves.”

She said other industries they were looking at included dairy, steel and the motor vehicle industries.

In recent memory, this inconsistency has been seen with the removal of the multi-currency regime in June last year in favour of the Zimbabwe dollar through Statutory Instrument (SI) 142 of 2019.

But in March this year, the same officials changed its policies and brought back the United States dollar into the market to be used in tandem with the local currency under SI 85 of 2020.

“We tend to be dishonest with our ministers and I blame you (business community) all. You (government) like writing documents, but we never review the documents,” Mliswa said.

“The economic blueprint, we had ‘ZimAsset’; from ZimAsset without reviewing it we went to the 10-Point Plan, without reviewing it, we went to the Transitional Stabilisation Programme, without reviewing, we went to the National Development Strategy 1 (20212025).”

“There is no country which is serious which survives on five-year plans. A five-year plan, for people in the corporate world here, is what a company does.

“As a nation, you are talking about 20, 25 or 30 years. Look at China. You don’t hear China talking about a five-year plan…you must leave a plan for generations.”

The First Three Community Radio Stations Licenced

By A Correspondent- The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe (BAZ) yesterday awarded the first three licences to community radio stations.

In a statement, BAZ board chairman Charles Manzi Sibanda confirmed that licences had been awarded to the Mbembesi Development Trust, Ntepe-Manama Community Radio Trust and Nyangani Community Radio Trust.

“The Broadcasting Authority of Zimbabwe wishes to advise members of the public that the authority has completed the processing of applicants for the provision of community radio broadcasting services in areas that were not being competed for,” Sibanda said.

“The authority has completed the processing of the application for those areas with no competition namely Manama, Mbembesi and Nyanga and wishes to advise that the following three applicants have been awarded community radio services licenses.”

Some applicants were yet to submit information required for the authority to make informed determination on their applications, he said.

“In addition, the authority advises members of the public that Midlands State University and the University of Zimbabwe have also been awarded with campus radio broadcasting services licences,”

Sibanda said the new licenses shall have 18 months to roll out their plans and go on air, in line with section 11(7) of the Broadcasting Services Act.

Meanwhile, the Zimbabwe Association of Community Radio Stations (ZACRAS) said it welcomed the step taken by the BAZ to license the first three community radio stations.

ZACRAS chairperson Perlagia Kapuya said the success of these newly-licensed community radio stations and campus radio stations will only be possible if they are allowed to independently function. Communities should be given the full rights to own and run their stations without interference.

“This latest development also comes against the background of the licensing of the first campus radio, the Great Zimbabwe Campus Radio,”Kapuya said.

“While we remain alive to the fact that the three community radio stations are the first of the 10 community radios that are set to be licensed, we continue to entreat the government of Zimbabwe, through BAZ, to ensure that the broadcasting space is diversified in its entirety through the licensing of people centred and community rooted community radios.”

Kapuya urged the government to ensure that the new licensees get all the technical and start-up support to get the stations off the ground.

Media Institute for Southern Authority (Misa) Zimbabwe urged the newly licensed community radio stations to jealously guard and protect their editorial independence.

“Their editorial policies should be defined and underpinned in pursuit of an inclusive social development agenda,” Misa Zimbabwe said in a statement.

“Their programming should thus be for-by-and about the community as envisaged in terms of the African Charter on Broadcasting.”

Chitungwiza Municipality In Soup Over Sewage

By A Correspondent- Chitungwiza Town Council is being accused of posing a serious health threat to over 650 000 residents in the dormitory town by discharging raw effluent into rivers that provide water to the municipality, the court heard.

The Zimbabwe Environmental Law Association, represented by its director Mutuso Dhliwayo, recently successfully applied for an interdict at the High Court seeking to stop the municipality from causing and permitting discharge of raw effluent and hazardous substances into Muda Dam, Seke, Harava and Nyatsime rivers.

The application was granted by High Court judge, Justice David Mangota who ordered Chitungwiza to repair its water treatment plants and ensure proper treatment of effluent before discharge, within three months.

The court also ordered the Environmental Management Agency (EMA), the second respondent in the matter, to assess the municipality’s compliance with the order and submit a report of the inspection to the registrar of the High Court within three months.

In his founding affidavit, Dhliwayo, who was represented by lawyer Advocate Agyver Sawunyama, stated that Chitungwiza municipality had failed to fulfil its duties of manging sewer systems and ensuring that residents had potable water as prescribed at law.

“This is a case which is absolutely necessary that the relief sought ought to be granted,” he pleaded.

“The harm caused by actions and inactions of the first respondent has created a serious and sustained health risk, which may result to devastating pandemics.

“I would not be exaggerating were I to surmise that the municipal area of Chitungwiza is a ticking time bomb for such mediaeval diseases such as cholera, typhoid, dysentery and others.”

Chitungwiza municipality had appeared before the environmental management board twice and found guilty on charges relating to poor management of effluent.

The council, however, did not follow the recommendations from the board and continued to violate the EMA statutes on waste management, according to the papers filed at the High Court.

“The various remedies adopted in the past therefore have no impact in deterring the first respondent from breaching its statutory duties or from repeating to commit the same offences.

“The applicant has no other remedies than that of seeking a prohibitory and mandatory interdict,” he stated.

In her latest audit report on urban councils, Auditor-General Mildred Chiri revealed that the local authorities were failing to attend to sewer blockages within 24 hours, resulting in raw sewage mixing with drinking water, giving rise to outbreaks of waterborne diseases.

She said the local authorities do not have modern equipment and technologies for sewer system inspection and maintenance.

Real Reason Why Khupe Has Cancelled The Congress Revealed

Please be advised that after exhaustive deliberations of the National Standing Committee the Extraordinary Congress that should take place tomorrow, Saturday 19th December, 2020 has been moved further to a date to be advised soon.

Fire In Khupe Camp Over Voters’ Roll

MDC-T interim leader Thokozani Khupe yesterday allegedly cancelled the extraordinary congress which was slated for today after gross irregularities were identified on the voters roll said to have been brought by interim secretary-general Douglas Mzonzora.

Party elections agents yesterday spend the better part of the day locked in meetings to verify the 2014 party structures, comparing with Mwonzora’s roll.

The roll, party insiders said, was in shambles, with names but without positions which they held at the time.

Party acting spokesperson Tapiwa Mashakada was not reachable for comment, but insiders said he was preparing a statement to announce the postponement of the congress to possibly next year.

“It’s been agreed (to cancel the congress). The party will seek another postponement at the court,” the insider said.

In October, the MDC-T was given up to 30 November to hold the extraordinary congress to select a new leader after missing the July deadline due to COVID-19 restrictions.

Khupe had approached the Supreme Court seeking guidance on the matter after the same court in March ordered the MDC-T to hold an elective congress within three months.

In March this year, the Supreme Court ruled that MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa was not the legitimate leader of the opposition party despite them leading two different formations and reinstated Khupe as interim president with a mandate to lead the party to a congress to select a new leader to replace the late founding MDC president Morgan Tsvangirai.

Khupe is facing off with Mwonzora, party national chairman Morgen Komichi and his deputy Elias Mudzuri.

Mwonzora was reportedly pushing for the use of a new voter’s roll while Khupe’s camp brought a roster of members from 2014.

There were also allegations that transport money was not released on time to allow delegates to travel to the voting centres today, with scant communication on the centres where polls would be held.

Komichi in the afternoon confirmed the disagreements over voters roll, despite claiming he was happy with the preparations of the congress.

“The preparations of the congress are going on well. We have no complaints but we are yet to agree on the voters’ roll. We haven’t seen it but we will give you an update,” Komichi said.

An insider confirmed the rift between Khupe and Mwonzora over the voters’ roll.

“There is a rift between Khupe and Mwonzora over which voter’s roll to use. Mwonzora wanted to use the current voters’ roll but that has been rebuffed by the Khupe camp which brought the 2014 structures voters’ roll,” the insider said.

“The fear in the Khupe’s camp is that the Mwonzora’s roll was full of his backers. The issue has further ignited fissures ahead of the extraordinary congress tomorrow (today).”

Khupe previously ordered that there be no gap filling to the party’s 2014 structures for the congress to block Mwonzora, who was allegedly stuffing the roll with his backers in a process led by Mashonaland East provincial chairman Piniel Denga.

Last week, Khupe’s camp was up in arms against Mwonzora, accusing him of stealing $300 000 from the $161 million the party got from government under the Political Parties Finance Act.

Mwonzora was cleared of wrong doing by the national standing committee on Thursday, giving an impression that Khupe and the former Nyanga MP had buried their hatchet ahead of the congress.

English O Level Paper Leaks

By A Correspondent- There is strong suspicion that there was a leak of Zimsec English Exam Paper 1 after two candidates, one external and another a student at Murambinda B Secondary were caught with answers during a sitting on Wednesday last week.

Both were disqualified.

Buhera Schools Inspector Godfrey Chimbwanda said he is yet to receive a report from the Headmaster.

“I have sent one of my inspectors to the school but unfortunately the head travelled to Mutare today. I will have all the information on Monday,” said Chimbwanda.

Sources told Chipinge Times that, the two were found by invigilators in possession of ZIMSEC answer sheets which were different from the ones disbursed in the exam room.

The sheets contained answered questions which prompted the invigilators to suspect that the paper leaked since the answers were of the same questions in the question paper.

Sources said that the answer sheets had folding lines meaning that the candidates entered the exam room with the answer sheets.-MasvingoMirror

Eswatini Puts Heavy Restrictions On Alcohol And Travel During Festive Season As Covid-19 Cases Rise

Travelling and gatherings are the leading drivers of Covid-19 in Eswatini, Deputy Prime Minister Themba Masuku said on Friday.

In a statement imposing restriction, he said travelling would be restricted and gatherings would be controlled during the festive season.

He said no person shall be allowed to consume liquor at a gathering, including a family gathering of more than 20 people.

Gatherings were not allowed to take place after 8pm, night vigils and cross–over events or parties were prohibited, and non essential travelling between 11pm and 4am was prohibited, Masuku said.

All restaurants and food outlet operators are not allowed to sell or serve liquor to diners after 7pm and, festive season sports tournaments were prohibited as part of curtailing the spread of the novel coronavirus.

“A person who intends to hold a gathering in terms of the regulations, shall at least seven days days before the intended gathering lodge an application with the ministry of home affairs regional office,” he said.

“The application shall be in the prescribed form and shall be accompanied by a letter of consent from a chief or chief’s council if the event is to be held on Eswatini nation land.”

He said the country recently recorded a total of 201 news cases.

“About 56 percent of these cases were from the Hhohho region, with a majority of them recorded around Mbabane City areas. Forty-five percent of positive cases are those that tested after showing symptoms, while those coming from gatherings were at 20 percent.”

The country is mourning the death of Prime Minster Ambrose Mandvulo Dlamini who died of Covid-19 while in receiving treatment in South Africa.

Khupe Inevitably Calls Off Congress After Possible Delegates Boycott The Sham Set Up

Paul Nyathi

Thokozani Khupe

The Thokozani Khupe led MDC-T has inevitably called off its Extraordinary Congress set for Saturday to elect a new party leader purportedly to replace the late founding leader Morgan Tsvangirai.

The party advised its members that it is calling off the congress due to administrative issues.

Members of the party who were meant to be delegates at the congress on Friday mobilised against attending the Congress.

Below is a memorandum circulated to members in Matabeleland South against the congress. Similar notices were distributed in all the other provinces.

URGENT NOTICE

18/12/2020

ATT:MAT SOUTH EOC 2014 DELEGATES

MAT SOUTH 2014 MDCT Extra Ordinary Congress (EOC) DELEGATES.

This memorandum serves to advise & update

ALL CONCERNED 2014 MDCT MAT SOUTH EOC DELEGATES, that they are strongly and strictly advised & indeed directed NOT TO TAKE PART in the MDCT EOC on 19 December 2020 that the several social media platforms are awash with.

This is a bogus and purely a ZANU-PF/MDC Rebels’ programme that real democrats MUST shun because:

  1. Mat South was not accorded a chance to exercise it’s democratic right to nominate it’s preferred Presidential candidate.
  2. Neither our MDCT Constitution has, nor our 2014 National Council has made a provision for decentralised National Congresses.
  3. The EOC is a Zanu PF project to archieve premaditated results that Zanu-PF will want to use to form bedroom GNU.
  4. Many Presidential aspirants were disenfranchised outside the dictates or the party constitution hence the law.
  5. The same scenario in (4 above) goes true for several delegates. Many have been fired without due processes being followed.

Zim Hearse Driver Jailed 15 Years For Smuggling Explosives Into South Africa

A 38-year-old Zimbabwean man employed by a South Africa parlour as a hearse driver, was on Thursday jailed 15 years for smuggling explosives worth R420 000 into the neighbouring country through Beitbridge Border Post.

Wisper Ndiweni was in July found with the explosives hidden in the hearse as he returned to South Africa after delivering a corpse for burial in Zimbabwe.

Since then, he has been in remand prison until his conviction and sentencing at the Musina Regional Court yesterday.

Ndiweni was arrested by South Africa’s organised crime-busting unit, the Hawks.

Hawks spokesperson for Limpopo province, Captain Matimba Maluleke said they were not relenting on their crackdown on crime in the province and the borderline.

He said they were making many arrests and breaking syndicates which push contraband.

“On July 26, 2020, at Beitbridge Border Post, the police were busy with their routine stop and search duties when they stopped a hearse that was coming from Zimbabwe and searched it.

“Instead of finding a coffin in the hearse, they discovered explosives with an estimated value of over R420 000 and subsequently arrested Ndiweni who was the driver of the vehicle,” said Captain Maluleke.

He said the accused had on several occasions tried to secure bail without success.

“This is a second jail sentence imposed on explosives’ smugglers in the month of December alone,” he said.

Captain Maluleke said two others, Patson Banda (25) and Life Mbazi (33) were recently sentenced to 15 years’ direct imprisonment by the Musina Magistrate’s Court for smuggling explosives.

The smuggling of explosives into South Africa through Beitbridge Border Post and the Limpopo River has become a perennial headache for security authorities in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

It is understood that explosives are used to bomb ATM or illegal mining activities in the Free State and Gauteng Provinces.

Over 30 people including Zimbabweans and South Africans have been arrested along the two countries’ boundary while smuggling explosives worth millions of dollars in the last two years.

The major source of the explosives is yet to be ascertained though it is believed the product is being obtained mostly around mining towns.

Married Woman Dies While Spending The Night At Lover’s House

A MARRIED Bulawayo woman from Mpopoma suburb died under unclear circumstances after spending a night at a boyfriend’s house.

Ms Siphilisiwe Nkomo (41) was rushed to Mpilo Central Hospital where she was pronounced dead after having breathing difficulties while at Mr Jona Chigovanyika’s house in Mpopoma on Wednesday morning.

The cause of her death is yet to be established as police are still waiting for a post-mortem report.

Sources said Ms Nkomo was drinking beer at a local tavern when Mr Chigovanyika approached her. The two agreed to go to Mr Chigovanyika’s place of residence where they spent the night.

A relative who spoke on condition of anonymity said Mr Chigovanyika and Ms Nkomo were drinking beer together before deciding to spend the night at Mr Chigovanyika’s house.

“The woman died at around 10 am after she was rushed to hospital having breathing difficulties,” said the relative.

The relative said the now deceased Ms Nkomo was married and therefore did not understand why she decided to spend the night at another man’s house.

Bulawayo provincial police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said police were treating the matter as sudden death and investigations were underway.

“I can confirm that a woman identified as Siphilisiwe Nkomo (41) of Mpopoma was pronounced dead on arrival at Mpilo Central Hospital. We are now waiting for post-mortem results to establish the cause of death,” he said.
