Lesotho’s Former First Granted Bail

By A Correspondent- Lesotho’s former first lady, charged with the murder of her love rival, was granted bail on Monday, despite objections from the police that she might use it to escape.

Maesaiah Thabane, wife of former prime minister Thomas Thabane, was arrested at the start of this month, after an appeal court revoked her bail on suspicion that procedure was not followed correctly when it was granted.

Forty-three-year-old Maesaiah Thabane has been charged with ordering the killing of his then wife Lipolelo Thabane, who was shot dead near her home in Lesotho’s capital, Maseru, in June, 2017.

She denies any involvement.

When police tried to question her earlier this year, she left the mountainous kingdom for neighbouring South Africa.

“The petitioner has fled before and is likely to do so again. She is also very dangerous and has resources she can use to hire hitmen to interfere and eliminate the witnesses,” Lesotho’s Deputy Police Commissioner Paseka Mokete said in his objection to the decision.

Lipolelo was estranged from Thomas Thabane at the time of the murder. He became prime minister two days after the killing and he married Maesaiah a month later. He is also a suspect but denies any involvement and has yet to be formally charged.

Zimbabwe records 7th COVID-19 Death As 5 Police Officers Test Positive To The Virus

By A Correspondent- 5 ZRP officers have tested positive for COVID-19 on the same day that Zimbabwe recorded the 7th COVID-19 death. The development was confirmed by the information ministry’s permanent secretary Mangwana who tweeted:

Two Zimbabweans in Namibia have tested positive to #Covid19Zim. Back home, five members of @PoliceZimbabwe have tested positive as well. This shows how the police are part of the frontline staff vulnerably exposed to risk as they go about their law and order jobs

The ZRP officers testing positive for COVID-19 coincided with the 7th COVID-19 in the country which was announced by the Ministry which said:

Today (Monday), we regret to report one facility death of a male aged 49 from Bulawayo Province, who tested positive today with a history of travel from South Africa and had no co-morbidities.

Mnangagwa Pledges To End Corruption By 2023 – Rubbish, Staying To Rig 2023 Elections!

By Patrick Guramatunhu- “Many measures have been put in place to fight corruption and the people are now free to talk about it.

Officials are being arrested and before that was taboo. Now we’re talking about it, it means it’s being solved,” said Foreign Affairs and International Trade Minister Dr Sibusiso Moyo.

Minister Moyo please do not insult our intelligence! Mugabe admitted the country was being “swindled out of US$15 billion in diamonds alone!” He never arrested one diamond swindler or/and recover one dollar of the swindled fortune. Mnangagwa has been in power for nearly three years, he too has not arrest one swindler and/or recover one dollar.

We all know that the Army, the Police, CIO, Mugabe, Mnangagwa and a few other institutions and individuals have/had diamond mining concessions. We all know of “Churu chaMujuru” (Mujuru’s anthill!)  and the US$ 32 million loot amass by former Police Commissioner, Augustine Chihuri was from the Police’s diamond mining activities.

You, Minister Moyo and VP Chiwenga, as senior Army Officers you received your share of the Army’s diamond mining activities which you have used to build your mansions and to buy other properties and business interests. Mugabe and Mnangagwa too have amassed their fortunes from the wholesale looting still taking place to this day.

Yes, Mnangagwa has arrested a few individuals for corruption but these are the small fish mostly. The real big fish responsible for the looting of the big fortunes will never be arrested. You Minister Moyo, VP Chiwenga and Mnangagwa himself are the godfathers of corruption.

No godfather of corruption will dare arrest another godfather. No matter how angry a cobra gets, it will never ever bite another cobra because it knows before the other’s dying wish will be to die with its fangs buried in opponent!

The people know to stamp out the gross mismanagement, the rampant corruption and the lawlessness which earned Zimbabwe the pariah state status, destroyed the economy and driven the investors and donors away; we must end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance. And to do that we must first implement the democratic reforms necessary to stop Zanu PF rigging the elections.

“This is President Mnangagwa’s election pledge card, he pledged to fulfil the fight against corruption by 2023. He asked to be measured with regards to fighting corruption by the people ahead of 2023 elections, it’s his pledge card and he is serious about fighting this scourge that is eroding the economic fibre,” continued Dr Moyo.

Mnangagwa rigged the July 2018 elections; ZEC failed to produce something as basic as a verified voters’ roll. Unless we implement the democratic reforms to stop Zanu PF rigging, the party will rig the 2023 elections, guaranteed.

Since we cannot trust Zanu PF to implement the reforms we must exert all pressure to force Zanu PF to step down so we can appoint an interim administration to implement the reforms.

This Zanu PF regime have no democratic mandate to govern. It is illegitimate and is holding the nation hostage! Enough is bloody enough!

Govt To Recruits 500 Health Workers

By A Correspondent- The Health Ministry is set to recruit 500 health workers which include doctors, nurses and technicians after the Ministry of Finance gave them the go-ahead to do so.

This was revealed by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Monica Mutsvangwa after a COVID-19 taskforce meeting yesterday when she said the government was mulling setting up quarantine centres for COVID-19 positive cases as some cases have no capacity to self isolate.

The taskforce was informed that Treasury has concurred to the recruitment of an additional 500 health workers including doctors, nurses, and technicians for Intensive Care Unit/High Dependency Unit and isolation centres across the country.

This recruitment will go a long way in boosting our health services’ capacity to respond and treat Covid-19 cases.

On the issue of isolation centres for positive cases Mutsvangwa said:It has also been noted that there are some cases that have the capacity to self-isolate but are not adhering to self-isolation protocols and are putting communities at risk.

We have recommended that all positive cases at private and public quarantine facilities be moved to specific isolation centres in order to prevent the further spread of Covid-19,

As of yesterday, Zimbabwe recorded 574 confirmed cases, 152 recoveries and seven (7) deaths.

Presenting the Preliminary Statement alongside COMESA Electoral Observation Mission, the Alternate Head of SEOM, Hon. Dr Kalombo Mwansa, accompanied by the SADC Executive Secretary, Her Excellency Dr Stergomena Lawrence Tax noted the peaceful political and security environment that existed before, during and immediately after polling day.

Hon. Dr Mwansa hailed the professional manner in which the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) conducted itself during the electoral process. On this note, Hon Dr Mwansa commended MEC for its inclusive and regular stakeholder consultations and provision of timely and accessible public information regarding all critical phases of the electoral process.

In the Preliminary Statement, the SADC Electoral Observation Mission made several recommendations to improve the conduct of future elections in Malawi. Some of the recommendations include the need for MEC, Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) and relevant stakeholders to review the enforcement mechanisms for the law relating to the coverage of political parties and candidates by the public broadcaster, the Malawi Broadcasting Corporation, to ensure effective implementation of the neutrality and equal coverage provisions.

The Mission noted with concern, the existence of ritual murders of citizens living with albinism and urged the Government of Malawi to finalise and implement the on-going initiatives to address ritual murders of albino citizens, including increasing their security, to enable them to freely exercise their political and socio-economic rights.

The Mission also called for improved social, cultural and political environment to enhance the participation and inclusion of female candidates in the political process, and to increase the representation of women in elected offices in line with the SADC Protocol on Gender and Development.

The release of the SADC Preliminary Statement was jointly held with Common Market for East and Southern Africa (COMESA) Electoral Observer Mission, headed by Madame Hope Kivengere. Muchinguri Yet Again Refutes Reports That Zim Soldiers Are In Mozambique

Own Correspondent

Oppah Muchinguri

DEFENCE minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has yet again vehemently denied reports that government has deployed Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) soldiers to Mozambique to help that country quell an Islamist insurgency.

Recent media reports suggested Mozambique President Filipe Nyusi made an appeal to his Zimbabwe counterpart Emmerson Mnangagwa for assistance in combating the insurgence by deploying ZNA personnel in the volatile region.

Giving oral evidence before the Defence and Security Parliamentary Portfolio Committee Monday, Muchinguri dismissed the reports as dangerous rumours and lies.

“Those are social media dangerous rumours and lies. Dismiss them with the contempt they deserve,” she said.

“Regarding Mozambique, there was a (SADC) Troika meeting that took place here in Zimbabwe, but there is no harm when a chairman of an organ is invited by a neighbour to say I have a problem in Mozambique, can you assist me? Equally, any country surely, whether Zimbabwe or any country can raise a flag to say I am in trouble. That is what happened.”

President Emmerson Mnangagwa is the current chairperson of the SADC Troika on Organ on Defence, Politics and Security Cooperation.

“Because of the location of Mozambique, you cannot go as one country to settle a problem that will overflow to a number of countries,” Muchinguri told the legislators.

“So we take that regional posture. So it is not correct, no country will dare go into a situation, whether it was in DRC, again it was SADC or everywhere that we have gone to, we do have treaties and conventions. We respect those. We abide by certain rules and regulations, principles of SADC that another country cannot go into another territory without general understanding and agreement.

“As chair of the regional bloc currently, Zimbabwe will not act alone, we have Malawi which was also a cause of concern and we did as a region deploy our own observers and technical teams to assess the situation.”

CABS Warns Customers To Use Accounts For Purposes They Were Opened For

Own Correspondent

CABS individual account holders were recently informed by the bank that they can no longer do more than 10 transfers per day.

Ostensibly this is an effort by the bank, and not part of the RBZ’s FIU crackdown, to clamp down on illegal foreign currency trading.

The bank glibly reminds customers to use the accounts for the purposes for which they opened them.

Even those with good intentions cannot in good conscience keep money in those accounts. The only way to save is to buy something and often that something is illegal USD. Not doing anything will see your savings wiped away.

Below is the notice circulated by the Bank.

Dear Valued Customer,

We wish to advise you that the limit for internal transfers on individual accounts is now 10 transfers of any value per day.

We encourage you to ensure that your transactions are limited to the purposes for which you opened your account.

George Charamba Accuses The MDC Alliance Of Sabotaging Economy To Raise Citizens Against Mnangagwa.

Own Correspondent

George Charamba

Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet (in charge of communications) George Charamba has accused the opposition MDC Alliance of sabotaging the economy in order to force for regime change.

In a state media report, Charamba said there is a political dimension to the current challenges as the country is facing a multi-pronged assault from some elements determined to turn the public against President Mnangagwa and the Second Republic.

“There is a very strange coincidence that we have noticed over quite some months between the implosive politics within the opposition, self-implosive politics, and heightened illicit activity in the economy. You have that mayhem in the MDC whose sum effect is that of weakening the opposition in the country on the one and then you have increased below the law and out of the law activities in the economy.

“We have realised that there is a clear nexus between runaway market activities and runaway opposition politics, that more and more, the security threat to this country, the destabilisation to this country is finding expressing through the market, so there is heightened smuggling of gold, there is heightened transactions, there is release of precious foreign currency into the black market, all to create a generalised instability which have the effect of creating disenchantment on the part of the Government,” said Mr Charamba.

The MDC is presently consumed in serious power struggles due to the failure of its leaders to adhere to its own party rules and constitutionalism and with the opposition self-disemboweling, Mr Charamba said the country detractors and anti-Second Republic funders are now trying to use the market as a form of opposition against the Government.

“The politics are being shaped from the market, it is as if we are being told, if you won’t have MDC-Alliance for an opposition then we will create an opposition for you through illicit market activities, through illicit NGOs, through disgruntled unions and through embassies mostly so given to making anti-government statements, when you coalesce that you will realise that we are in a phase where destabilisation has assumed a market form. The calculation was a health sector led generalised public strike, we are aware of such plots,” said Mr Charamba.

Last week, the Government announced the suspension of phone-based mobile money transactions and trading on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) so as to allow for investigations into illegal dealings connected with the foreign currency black market and also to put in place reforms that restore mobile money platforms to their original purpose.

RBZ Pumps Into Circulation $64m Worth Of Cash.

State Media

A young man displays recently introduced new ten dollar notes

The Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe (RBZ) says it injected approximately $64 million cash into circulation during the week ending June 19, 2020.

According to statistics released last Friday by the central bank, cash in circulation increased to $1.661 billion for the week to June 19, 2020 up from $1.552 billion for the week ending 12 June 2020.

Both RBZ governor Dr John Mangudya and Finance Minister Mthuli Ncube have said cash will be injected into the economy on a gradual basis.

The local currency is thus still limited in supply resulting in endless queues at banks. Consumers have also resorted to paying premiums to access cash from illegal traders.

As of that date, cash in circulation is now 11.6 percent of all the currency (not cash) issued by the central bank amounting to $13.903 billion.

Overall money supply is however, much higher at more than $35 billion. The RBZ last provided overall money supply figures for the period to December 2019.

International benchmarks say the ratio of cash in circulation to overall money supply (M3) should be between 10 percent and 15 percent.

Meanwhile, the central bank said preliminary reserve money stood at $13.90 billion as at June 19, 2020 from $13.34 billion recorded on June 12, 2020.

It said the marginal increase of 4.3 percent in reserve money over the week was reflected in increases of $417.71 million in RTGS balances; currency issued, $63.94 million; and other deposits, $86.21 million.

Market watchers say Zimbabwe’s cash in circulation challenges are exacerbated by the nature of the economy where the majority of the traders are unbanked.

Cash that is withdrawn from financial institutions hardly finds its way back into the banking sector, resulting in those who use formal banking channels being starved of cash.

Of the more than $1 billion notes and coins that had been injected into circulation by the central bank, only $298 million was in banking vaults at the end of April, signifying limited use of banking channels.

Measures will have to be put in place to encourage both business formalisation and financial inclusion.

The Bank Use Promotion and Suppression of Money Laundering Act will also have to be enforced religiously.

“I called my mother first in thewee hours telling her the good news. This award means a lot to me, I am thinking about it every second. Just being nominated means a lot to me and it has opened more doors for me and that platform itself has given me the exposure. Now that I have won it, everything is changing drastically. I appreciate the love and support I have been given back at home. Zimbabweans played a big role

She said it was going to work harder than before since she was now a BET winner and a lot was expected of her.

“I am going to be releasing an album later this year. It is more work, drive, push and focus. Everything I have been doing has just elevated now. This things only happen once and you have to live for it,” she said.

The “Tender Love” singerzz said she could not wait to fly back home to celebrate with family, fans and friends soon after the Covid-19 pandemic lockdown has been eased.

“As soon as all this is done, I will fly back home. It was part of my plans earlier this year, as I was supposed to have a tour in Zimbabwe, but unfortunately the plans were cancelled because of the coronavirus, but I can’t wait to be home,” she said.

Five Police Officers Test Positive For Covid-19 While Death Toll Goes Up.

Ministry of Information secretary, Nick Mangwana says that five police officers have tested positive for the deadly Covid-19, while the death toll from the pandemic in the country has risen to seven.

The government spokesperson also confirmed that two Zimbabweans tested Covid-19 positive in neighbouring Namibia.

“Two Zimbabweans in Namibia have tested positive to #Covid19Zim. Back home, five members of @PoliceZimbabwe have tested positive as well. This shows how the police are part of the frontline staff vulnerably exposed to risk as they go about their law and order jobs,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry Monday confirmed the death of a 49-year-old man from Bulawayo from Covid-19, bringing the total deaths to seven.

“Today (Monday), we regret to report one facility death of a male aged 49 from Bulawayo Province, who tested positive today with a history of travel from South Africa and had no co-morbidities,” the ministry said in its daily Covid-19 update.

“Seven cases tested for Covid-19 today (Monday). These include returnees from South Africa, 2, Botswana, 1, and four local cases who are isolated. Three of the local cases are contacts to a known confirmed case, investigations are underway to establish the source of infection for the other case.

“Bulawayo reported 10 new recoveries. As at 29 June 2020, Zimbabwe had 574 confirmed cases, including 152 recoveries and seven deaths.”

Massive Electricity Tariff Increase Coming Up.

ZERA chief executive Mr Eddington Mazambani

The Zimbabwe Energy Regulatory Authority (ZERA) is assessing an application for an electricity tariff increase that was recently lodged by the Zimbabwe Electricity Transmission and Distribution Company (ZETDC).

ZERA chief executive Mr Eddington Mazambani said they wanted to ensure a balance between affordability on the part of consumers and ZETDC’s viability.

“Tariff increases are not granted easily, we will conduct an extensive interrogation and scrutinisation of the proposed tariffs to ensure that they are justified.”

Mr Mazambani said their assessment might see the tariffs being reviewed upwards or downwards.

ZESA spokesperson Mr Fullard Gwasira confirmed that they applied for an increase in tariffs but declined to give specific details.

This month the power company lowered electricity tariffs by between 11 percent and 25 percent and introduced a new low-cost tariff band that reduces electricity charges for purchases of units in excess of 200 kilowatt hour (kwh) but not exceeding 300kwh per month in response to customer requests for low priced units. The first 50 units, under the June lowered tariff band, were pegged at 52c per kwh, 51 to 200 units cost $1.14 per kwh while 201 to 300 units have been reduced to $3.12 per kwh from $4.88 per kwh.

The proposed tariff adjustments according to the application, Mr Mazambani said, were aimed at cushioning the power entity as inflation continues to rise. The energy regulator has also put in place a system which will see fuel prices being adjusted weekly.

Mr Mazambani said the price adjustments were also aimed at making sure that the commodity is available on the market.

Govt And Teachers On Collision Course Over June Examinations That Begin Today.

Cain Mathema

Candidates registered for Zimsec O-Level and A-Level exams are set to write their examinations as scheduled, beginning today, without certainty if teachers will attend the examinations.

Some teacher unions, Junior Members of Parliament and the Zimbabwe Deaf Trust are still worried that even with safeguards, many candidates may have problems getting to the centres and many are not prepared to write since schools have been closed for almost four months. They thought the exams should be delayed further.

Announcing the progress in Harare yesterday, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Ambassador Cain Mathema stressed that all obligatory processes have been put into place to ascertain “the safety of candidates and invigilators during the course of the examinations”.

“To this end, thermometers, disinfectants, face masks, wash facilities and hand sanitisers have been procured for all examination centres to protect from Covid-19. Examination centres have also been disinfected in line with Ministry of Health and Child Care guidelines.”

Minister Mathema thanked the First Family, the inter-ministerial taskforce against Covid-19, headed by Vice President Kembo Mohadi, the Ministry of Health and Child Care, and other stakeholders for making the June exams a reality through their “guidance and assistance” in readying the centres in tandem with the World Health Organisation guidelines.

The June 2020 examination period for O-Level will run from today to July 20, while the A-Level sessions will begin today and end on July 23.

Teachers unions have vowed to boycott the invigilation of the examinations arguing that the government has failed to meet regulations stipulated by a High Court order to protect teachers and learners against the Coronavirus (COVID-19).

The High Court on June 19, ruled that for the examinations to proceed, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Ministry of Health and Child Care, ZIMSEC had to provide protective resources at all examination centres.

President of the Progressive Teachers Union of Zimbabwe (PTUZ) Takavafira Zhou said that teachers’ unions held a meeting, Monday, where they reached a consensus that they will not report for duty until all the World Health Organisation (WHO) requirements are met.

Zhou said the government is in contempt of court and the issue at hand is a matter of life and death hence the teachers are not going to risk their lives by going to work when there are no resources to protect them nor the learners.

“Nothing has been done at the examination centres to ensure that we are protected. Teachers are not employed by ZIMSEC. As it stands no transport allowance has been availed to the teachers to enable them to go to their respective centres. We are still under lockdown, the least ZIMSEC could have done was to craft exemption letters for teachers to travel to places where they will be invigilating but they didn’t,” Zhou said.

“No masks or sanitisers have been availed. Schools have not been disinfected as yet. We are not returning to work until these standards are met. The government has failed to honour the High Court ruling. Life is very precious and as teachers, we have chosen t to preserve it by staying at home.”

All Sporting Activities To Resume

THE country’s supreme sports body, the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) says it is working on modalities for the possible resumption of medium and high-risk sport codes in the wake of COVID-19.

Things are starting to shape up for the possible resumption of medium and high-risk sporting activities, with the Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) working round the clock to ensure the safety of athletes and officials.

SRC Director-General, Prince Mupazviriho says they are working on modalities to ease restrictions on medium and high-risk sport codes without breaching health guidelines.

“The classification of sports into classes was meant to enable the containment of the disease. We are, however, working on modalities to make sure that all health guidelines are observed before we can give our green light on their resumption. We are set to ease the restrictions on these (medium and high risk) sports so that they can resume their normal training sessions, at least. You are quite aware that even on the low-risk sports there are no serious competitions, no spectators, etc, this is part of the laid down Covid-19 guidelines,” he said.

SRC has already given the green-light for the resumption of low-risk sport codes which include cricket, golf, tennis, and horse racing.

Chinese Illegally Running Redan Mine Where A Shooting Incident Took Place

Winston Chitando

THE Lower Gweru based mine, where a shooting incident was reported two weeks ago, could be operating illegally after management failed to produce requisite paperwork.

Reden Mine has been in the news for the wrong reasons after one of the managers at the mine, Zhang Xuen allegedly shot and injured two employees over a salary dispute resulting in his arrest on charges of attempted murder.

A top government delegation led by the Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Honourable Winston Chitando visited the mine on a fact-finding mission where the management at the institution failed to avail the requisite operating documentation which raises questions on how they are conducting business in the country.

The team failed to avail the necessary paperwork citing language barriers despite the availability of a competent interpreter employed at the mine.

“We want all our operations to be conducted within the context of the law. If there are any disputes of labour or otherwise they should be resolved within the context of the law. So yes we came we found out that the place is no longer operating. But certainly, this is a very sad situation in the history of mining in the country. We are conducting investigations on the way they are operating and their contributions to fidelity,” said the minister.

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs, Senator Larry Mavhima said the shooting incident is unacceptable as his team is already ceased with issues of violence within the mining industry.

“What has been experienced here is similar to the machete-wielding gangs that have been terrorising the province. We cannot accept violence to prevail in the mining sector. We have full confidence in our judiciary system and we do believe that justice will take its course. It is quite unfortunate that we had to experience such at a time we are dealing with the COVID-19.”

Reden Mine has since ceased operations after the Chinese national allegedly shot and injured Wendy Chikwaira and Kennedy Tachiona.

Monica Mutsvangwa Address To The Nation On Covid-19 – Full Text

Monica Mutsvangwa

Good evening my fellow Zimbabweans
Today the National Taskforce on COVID19 met and received reports from its Subcommittees and also deliberated on the following matters:
• HEALTH STRATEGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE
Whilst focusing on protecting the nation from COVID19, Government has not lost sight of other health challenges bedeviling our communities. It is in this context that the Taskforce noted with sadness the Typhoid and Dysentery in some Bulawayo suburbs. So far, Bulawayo has reported five community and seven hospital deaths. Government has therefore embarked on an intensive bulk water trucking programme to affected communities. Water samples from these areas are also undergoing analysis.
On another note, Government values the safety of health workers and their families. To protect frontline workers’ families from possible infections, Crown Plaza, Marondera Hotel and Khayela Guest Lodge are being used for quarantining frontline staff at Government’s expense.

The Taskforce was informed that Treasury has concurred to the recruitment of an additionally 500 health workers including doctors, nurses, and technicians for ICU/HDU and Isolation centres across the country. This recruitment will go a long way in boosting our health services’ capacity to respond and treat COVID19 cases.

• QUARANTINE AND ISOLATION FACILITIES
The country has witnessed a surge in positive cases, especially among returnees. There are 1770 returnees in quarantine facilities across the country, with the highest number of returnees being housed in Harare.
The Taskforce has noted that while the standard procedure according to WHO guidelines is the self-solation of asymptomatic positive cases, there are some cases that are unable to self-isolate in their homes. Such cases are being housed at isolation centres intended for those who require treatment. It has also been noted that there are some cases that have the capacity to self-isolate but are not adhering to self-isolation protocols and are putting communities at risk.
We have recommended that all positive cases at private and public quarantine facilities be moved to specific isolation centres in order to prevent the further spread of COVID19.

• MATERIALS PRODUCTION SUBCOMMITEE
The National Taskforce was informed by the Subcommittee that the demand for sanitizers has increased due to the national requirement that all entities have sanitizer /wash facilities at entry points. Let me take this opportunity to commend the nation for adhering to COVID19 preventative and protective measures such as hand washing and sanitizing.
• RE-OPENING OF UNIVERSITIES, COLLEGES, PRIMARY AND SECODNDARY SCHOOLS
The Taskforce received reports from the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development and from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education on re-opening plans and Standard Operating Procedures for the Prevention and Management of COVID19 at learning institutions.
The Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development presented detailed individual State Universities and Colleges re-opening plans in light of the COVID19 pandemic.
By way of summary of this report, measures being taken to combat COVID19, tertiary education students, visitors and staff are as follows:
 All Tertiary Education institutions are required to have ONE or, at most TWO, entrances to the entire institution.
 All students and staff entering and exiting the institution cited above shall be required to go through screening.
 Institution shall ensure students and employees are educated on the symptoms and the measures to take if COVID 19 symptoms manifest.
 A capacity utilization chart/timetable shall be provided to Ministry Tertiary Education Compliance Inspectors satisfactorily adjusted to ensure that all classrooms observe and maintain acceptable physical distancing.
 Depending on student volumes, timetables may have to be adjusted to ensure an even wider spread of students.
 Students and employees will be encouraged to leave the institutions as soon as classes or work is completed for the day. These measures will be enforced by College Security Officials who patrol institution campuses at all times and by all senior staff and tutors.
 No sporting activities are to be conducted at all institutions.
 All institutions are to be fumigated prior to re-opening.
 If any employee or student shows symptoms of COVID 19 whilst on campus, a report shall immediately be made to the institution health department for appropriate medical assistance.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education tabled Standard Operating Procedures for the Prevention and Management of COVID-19 and other Influenza like Illnesses in the Primary and Secondary Education Sector” which the National Taskforce adopted.
The SOPs, which were crafted in line with the Health School Policy, are meant to guide the conduct school business in a safe and healthy environment for all. The list of requirements will be updated depending on the nature of the public health pandemic at any time.
The SOPs measures include:
 enforcement of the “stay at home if unwell” policy for learners, teachers, and school staff with symptoms
 each school shall establish a temporary Isolation Holding Bay.
 Apart from the major disinfection of all school buildings and grounds before the re-opening of schools, schools should clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as door handles, desks, toys, teaching aids, and play equipment.
 All sporting activities, which include matches, choral practice, indoor games and festivals are prohibited until further notice.
The Taskforce noted that strict compliance to these SOPs is required by all and failure to observe these guidelines would compromise the health and safety of all. This would be in breach of the Public Health Act and relevant COVDI19 prevention and control measures. Heads of Office at National, Provincial, District and school level authorities have the responsibility to ensure and enforce compliance.
I wish to express best wishes to all students that are commencing their June/July Examinations tomorrow. Government has put in place measures to keep both learners and staff safe.
COMING TO OTHER ISSUES OUTSIDE OF THE NATIONAL TASKFORCE
• MEDIA REFORM
Government has embarked on a media reform programme. This includes legislative reforms, media cultural reform and registering new players in television. I wish to inform the nation that the deadline for applicants to lodge their applications for television players is tomorrow, 30June 2020. We take this opportunity to wish applicants all the best. The Second Republic means what it says on the media landscape reform.

• LOCAL CURRENCY
We have also received reports of some shops and business owners who are refusing to accept local currency as legal tender for goods and services. We wish to reiterate that the ZW$ is a legal medium of exchange and should be accepted.
My fellow Zimbabweans, as our positive cases rise, let us not become lax thinking that this virus is limited to returnees. We have to be vigilant and work collectively. Protective and preventative measures are there to assist us in combating COVID19.
Let us stay safe out there, minimize movement, sanitize and wash our hands, and observe social distancing.
I thank you.

Schools That Were Used As Quarantine Centres Barred From Being June Exam Centres

Zimsec has established alternative centres for the June 2020 examinations that begin today to replace a handful of schools that were being used as Covid-19 quarantine centres.

In a statement on Sunday, Zimsec said the decision to create alternative venues followed a directive from the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education against the use of such schools.

In Harare, candidates that registered to write examinations at Churchill and Roosevelt High schools will now sit their examinations at Admiral Tait Primary School, a couple of blocks away, while those that were supposed to sit for examinations at Mabelreign Girls High School will use Avonlea Primary School, again very close by.

Those who were registered at Morgan Zintech College and Belvedere Teacher’s College will write their examinations at Morgan High School, with those registered at Girls High School now going to use David Livingstone Primary School.

In Mashonaland East, candidates that were supposed to sit for examinations at Shalom Academy Murehwa and the National Rehabilitation Centre, will now use Hurungwe Secondary School and Chiremba Primary School respectively.

In Mashonaland West, candidates registered at Jameson High School will sit for the examinations at Sir John Kennedy High School, while in the Midlands, candidates supposed to sit for examinations at Kwekwe High School will now do so at Fitchlea Primary School.

In Matabeleland North, candidates that were supposed to use Mabhikwa Secondary School and Mosi Oa Tunya High School will now sit for the examinations at Lupane and Chinotimba Primary schools.

Dr Mahomva All But Declares Zim Victory Over Covid-19

State Media

Dr Agnes Mahomva

Chief Coordinator National Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Dr Agnes Mahomva, has said although it is too early to claim victory, Zimbabwe’s Covid-19 cases seem to be stabilising, with very low levels of community infection.

She, however, stressed that people must not be complacent as the coming few weeks would be defining.

Dr Mahomva made the remarks at the Zimbabwe National Defence University where she was delivering a lecture on Public Health and National Security yesterday.

She said measures to arrest the spike in Covid-19 cases by using lockdowns had been largely effective.

“Ministry of Health and Child Care has been working with a group of scientists from the University of Zimbabwe doing mathematical modelling and projections,” said Dr Mahomva.

“When we started, they were looking at other countries and the projections were high, but as we are moving, their forecasts now have lower figures,” said Dr Mahomva.

Zimbabwe has seen a rise in cases, most being attributed to returning nationals tested in quarantine after arrival.

“The numbers are going up, but there is no need to panic,” said Dr Mahomva.

“We knew the numbers were going to rise, the question was when and how. We think at the moment, things are stabilising, but with these kind of things you need a few weeks before you can make a conclusion because the numbers may begin rising again.”

Dr Mahomva said public health and social measures like lockdowns and mask wearing regulations were meant to protect the most vulnerable members of society.

Zimbabwe has been under lockdown since the end of March, with an ever growing number of exemptions, but the actual lockdown has now been declared to be indefinite, leaving the Government with the legal powers to adjust levels and adjust levels of exemption.

Dr Mahomva addressed concerns that Covid-19 may be incubating in communities far from the authorities’ radar due to lack of adequate testing.

“We are not having those large numbers in communities,” she said.

“One might say we are not testing communities so how can we be sure, but comparing mortality rates from last year, the figures show that there is nothing unusual.

“We cannot be missing anything. Of course, there may be a few cases here and there we may fail to detect, but there is nothing unusual in our communities.”

Dr Mahomva emphasised the need to ensure Covid-19 messaging was engaging and inspiring behaviour change.

MISA Zimbabwe Condemns Arrest Of Journalist Godfrey Mtimba

Freelance journalist Godfrey Mtimba who is based in Zimbabwe’s southern town of Masvingo was on 29 June 2020 charged with undermining the authority of or insulting the President. He has been charged in terms of Section 33 (2) (a) of the Criminal Law (Codification and Reform) Act.

This section deals with any person who publicly unlawfully and intentionally makes any statement about or concerning the President with the knowledge or realising that there is a real risk or possibility that the statement is false and that it may engender feelings of hostility towards or cause hatred, contempt or ridicule of the President whether in person or in respect of the President’s Office.

MISA Zimbabwe understands that the charges arise from an incident which occurred on 26 June 2020 when MDC Alliance and some civic society activists allegedly addressed Masvingo residents who were waiting to board a ZUPCO bus. Mtimba took pictures and videos of the incident.

His lawyer, Phillip Shumba, who was deployed by MISA Zimbabwe, said the police recorded a warned and cautioned statement from Mtimba and that they would be advised of when the journalist would appear in court.

Emotional Send-Off For Biggie Zuze

BINDURA mayor Carlos Tokyo yesterday said Chipadze Stadium could be renamed Biggie Zuze Stadium in honour of the town’s first football superstar.

Zuze, who hailed from Bindura, died last Thursday at the age of 55.

He was laid to rest in his hometown, at Chiwaridzo cemetery, yesterday.

Scores of locals, who spoke to The Herald, described Zuze as their football hero.

Tokyo told mourners during the body viewing ceremony at Chipadze Stadium that the council has made a special resolution to honour Zuze either by rechristening the stadium or naming a street after him.

“We have resolved with the councillors to name a place after Biggie,’’ said Tokyo.

“Even this ground could be named after him at the completion of renovations. “We can even name one of our streets after him when the time comes.’’

Former players such as Alfred Chinodakufa, Zondai Nyaungwa, Nkululeko Dhlamini, David Mandigora, Clayton Munemo, Tau Mangwiro, Nesbert Saruchera, Patridge Muskwe and Simon Chuma were part of the huge crowd which paid their last respects.

The coaching fraternity was also represented with the DeMbare technical team, led by Tonderai Ndiraya and Naison Muchekela, also bidding their colleague farewell.
Zuze was one of the assistant coaches at DeMbare at the time of his death.

The burial was also attended by officials from ZIFA, the full Dynamos executive and representatives from other clubs.

The huge turnout meant it was difficult to maintain the social distance protocol under the Covid-19 guidelines.

Mourners, most of them clad in DeMbare’s blue-and-white colours, waved the Glamour Boys flag. Officials and close family members gave moving eulogies as they narrated the life and work of the former DeMbare coach.

ZIFA Mashonaland Central chairman Gilbert Saika said Zuze’s achievements were worthy celebrating.

“To be recognised as a player, coming from a place like Mashonaland Central, you have to be very good,’’ he said.
“Biggie was that good and he did not end there.

It was Biggie’s wish that many other young players from the province also make it to the top. We are appealing to the authorities to continue to scout for more players from this region.’’-The Herald

Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s Acceptance Speech: Full Text

My Fellow Citizens,
To stand before you as your President today is an honour.
It’s an honour that fills me with unspeakable joy and immense gratitude.

It’s an honour forged in the furnace of your desire and demand for change.
It’s an honour crafted by your hand when you braved the winter chill to cast your vote.

It’s an honour that has reignited the dream of our nation’s founders for a New Malawi.

When the founders of Malawi emerged from the womb of the great struggle that birthed our Independence in 1964, the dream was not merely for us to be freed from oppression. And when their children marched against the one-party state to birth our Democracy in 1993, the dream was not merely for us to be freed from tyranny.
The dream that binds us together is for us to enjoy shared prosperity, not just freedom.

For of what use is freedom from oppression if you are a slave to starvation? Or freedom from colonialism if you are a slave to tribalism? Of what use is freedom from tyranny if you are a slave to poverty?

No! The dream was for all of us, together, to be the ones who enjoy the riches of Malawi’s soil; to be the ones who make the products of her industries; to be the ones who harvest the bounties of her fields; to be the ones who are served by her taxes, and to be the ones who raise the skylines of her cities.

Today, we too have emerged from great struggle and marched our sore feet towards this moment of victory and justice. But unlike our forebears, we have done so not just because we have a dream.
We have done so because the time has come for us to go beyond dreaming. The time has come for us to arise from the slumber of our dream and make the dream true.

Dr Chilima and I accept this challenge and task. We will pursue it, not just as servants accountable to you voters, but as stewards of the hopes of millions of children, born and unborn, who have no vote.
With your help, we will restore a new generation’s faith in the possibility of having a government that serves, not a government that rules; a government that inspires, not a government that infuriates; a government that listens, not a government that shouts; a government that fights for you, not against you.

Now, I am no stranger to the benefits of good government. Although I was raised in a poor village like most Malawians; raised without inherited riches or political connections like most Malawians; raised without electricity or running water like most Malawians; I stand here today because I had one of the blessings of God that young Malawians today do not: The blessing of growing up in a well-governed Malawi.

So I pledge to run Malawi well, for that is the surest path to Tsogolo Labwino, a path that has long been in ruins, riddled with the potholes of greed and corruption.
In making this pledge, I am accepting this call to serve you with joy and holy fear, for I am duty-bound to God and all of you to give it my best.

However, I know that there are many of you who did not vote for me in this election, and perhaps the prospect of my presidency fills you with fear and grief.

But I want you to remember one thing: This new Malawi is a home for you too, and so long as I am its President, it will be a home in which you too will prosper.

I only ask you for one thing in return: To give Dr Chilima and me a chance to earn your trust and make this win a win for all of us.
That is how we will fulfil the dream of Malawi Watsopano Okomela…

TONSE. God bless you and God bless Malawi.

Dr Chakwera

GUNSHOT: Police Shoot ‘Cattle Rustler’

Police in Bulawayo have shot and injured a suspected cattle rustler after he ignored orders from the law enforcement agents to stop.

The injured suspect was rushed to a local hospital in the city where he is recovering. National police spokesman Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

Asst Comm Nyathi said it has become modus operandi for cattle rustlers to stash a stolen carcass under firewood and masquerade as firewood poachers.

He added that Pumula had become a hot spot for stock theft as cattle from neighbouring villages stray into the suburb, where criminals involved in cattle rustling pounce on the animals.

Most of the meat from the stolen beasts is sold in Bulawayo.

“This shooting incident involves a suspect who was transporting firewood and refused to stop. He drove away and, in the process, there was a chase and unfortunately police had to fire some shots. He got injured and is admitted to a local hospital,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

“People should not steal firewood and should not engage in criminal activities and must not flee from police officers. They must not try to evade police check points and must follow the normal procedures. It’s really unfortunate but at the end of the day the police have to do their work. The public should just appreciate that no one should engage in criminal activities.”

Asst Comm Nyathi sad police officers fired warning shots as per procedure, however the suspect did not heed the call to stop.

“So far we have established that this person was found carrying firewood and that firewood was illegally taken from the Pumula surroundings. Police officers fired warning shots, but he did not stop, so they had to do their job.

“Remember last week we had another incident where city of Bulawayo rangers were involved in a shootout with firewood poachers and possibly stock theft suspects. That area is becoming notorious for criminal acts,” said Asst Comm Nyathi. -Chronicle/state media

“POLAD Is Useless”

Oppah Says Drones To Patrol Borders | TRUE or PURE FANTASY?

A high end drone can only manage 31 minutes above ground before landing- and a minister says the flying machines will be deployed to patrol the bation’s borders.

Drone view of National Sports Stadium

Drones will soon be patrolling the country’s borders as Government moves to address security challenges posed by border jumpers who could be spreading infections by avoiding compulsory quarantine and testing.

Defence and War Veterans Affairs Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri said her ministry received funding for its Covid-19 support from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development as well and China donated 40 trucks to the army.

This came out yesterday when Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri, who is the deputy chairperson of the taskforce against Covid-19, appeared before the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Defence, Home Affairs and Security Services to give oral evidence on how the Inter-Ministerial Taskforce on Covid-19 was handling security matters.

The committee, chaired by Cde Callisto Gwanetsa, heard that the involvement of the defence forces was allowed since they were providing assistance to the civil power.

Some of the duties of the ZDF in the enforcement of the lockdown measures included manning checkpoints within cities and on highways to ensure that only those exempted were allowed to move around carrying out their critical duties.

The defence forces and the police were also involved in joint border patrols to curb the illegal border crossings by returning residents, which have reportedly been on the increase since the closure of the official borders in March.

Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri expressed concern over policing the country’s borders to contain illegal crossings by both pedestrian and vehicular traffic into the country, and the danger of importing Covid-19 infections.

Zimbabwe has borders with Botswana (813km), Mozambique (1 231km), South Africa (255km) and Zambia (767km) adding up to a stretch of 3 066km.

“Police were given motorbikes. We were given an allocation to purchase vehicles so the police will buy some. The army does not have vehicles, but the good news is that we received some 40 trucks from China. We are using these trucks to make sure we cover as much ground as possible. They will not be adequate, but it’s better than nothing,” she said.

Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri added that although the borders would not be adequately patrolled using drones the good thing was that the use of technology had also been recommended for the monitoring of commercial vehicles transiting through Zimbabwe.

“SADC has agreed to the movement of commercial goods throughout the region to balance health needs and economic imperatives,” she said.

Further, Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri raised concern over the shortage of personal protective equipment, which branded a serious challenge affecting the security forces working in the Covid-19 frontline.

“Inadequate funding for food, transport, fuel and kitting, which became perennial after the imposition of illegal sanctions also took its toll on both the morale of troops and their effectiveness.

“The main challenge confronting the Zimbabwe Defence Forces in fighting Covid-19 is lack of resources.”

She noted that the same committee had frequently heard about the scarcity of funds for normal operations.

“While the Ministry is making frantic efforts to acquire adequate personal protective equipment, its efforts were recently complemented by a donation from the Ministry of Defence of the People’s Republic of China worth more than US$300 000.

“Temptation comes in some situations as our soldiers do not have rations. It is important that we get resources so that our soldiers will not be tempted.

“On the issue of rations, we requested for $500 million, but were only allocated $100 million, which is a drop in the ocean. It remains a concern. This is a security issue because it affects our economy. We have certain elements such as those who were in prison who may cause havoc.

“We are concerned about 170 hardcore criminals released from our neighbouring countries who escaped from quarantine centres recently. Some of them have already started causing havoc in the communities. Some do not have identity documents and it becomes difficult to trace them,” she said.

Minister Muchinguri Kashiri said those involved in supporting efforts to contain infections were also receiving risk allowance and had free health medical care.

She dismissed claims that Zimbabwean forces were in Mozambique saying these were just social media rumours.

“Zimbabwe is mindful that these issues are issues of a regional thrust. There is strength in Zimbabwe working with other countries. Zimbabwe is still chairing the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation and we know that when a neighbour is under attack we seek a regional approach to these matters.

“As a region we cannot go in to settle a problem that will overflow to other countries. We are bound by certain rules and regulations that a member cannot go in without general understanding or agreement.

“Our region is peaceful. Those are social media rumours that are dangerous and should be dismissed.” -state media/Herald

Nguwaya Bail

Nguwaya with Mnangagwa (left) and others

Delish Nguwaya, who is challenging the magistrates’ court decision to deny him bail, will know his fate tomorrow when the High Court is expected to deliver its ruling on his application for bail pending trial.

He is facing charges of allegedly misrepresenting to the Government that his company was a medical firm in an attempt to be awarded tenders for Covid-19 medical supplies using his companies, Drax SAGL and Drax International.

Justice Pisirayi Kwenda last week deferred the bail ruling to yesterday, but postponed it to tomorrow. No reasons were given for the postponement.

Nguwaya was denied bail by Harare magistrate, Ms Vongai Muchuchuti, prompting him to appeal to the High Court.

In denying him bail, Ms Muchuchuti ruled that Nguwaya was a flight risk.

She said the seriousness of the offence which invariably attracts a lengthy custodial sentence in the event of a conviction could induce him to skip bail.

Charges against Nguwaya arose after he allegedly misrepresented that Drax was based in Switzerland, when it was only a consulting company with no experience in the manufacturing of drugs.

Acting on this misrepresentation, Health and Child Care Minister Dr Obadiah Moyo authorised a US$2 million medicine supply deal through NatPharm.

Nguwaya allegedly did the same using Drax International and won a supply deal worth US$40 million, the court heard.

The matter allegedly came to light after a notable variance on prices charged by the companies to those prevailing on the market. -Herald/state media

Daring Zim Preacher Challenges Satanic Church Leaders

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

Own Correspondent|Controversial Zimbabwean cleric Isaac Makomichi, has reportedly received threats from leaders of the satanic church in South Africa.

Last week the controversial preacher threatened to use his “spiritual powers” to destroy the church.

Makomichi claimed he received the threats on his social media accounts. Makomichi is the leader of Calvary Prayer Group.

” Do you have the powers to defeat us?” A member of the church allegedly asked the preacher.

“Some prophets are our agents, so don’t waste your time,” another member of the church reportedly wrote on social media.

One of the satanic church elders also allegedly wrote :

” We advise Zimbabwean prophet, Isaac Makomichi to mind his own business or he can join us. He cannot fight us as we are working with more than 50 prophets in his country,he must keep quite for his own good.”

Makomichi responded:
“I’m not afraid of them, they are sending me direct messages to my Twitter asking me to keep quite.

Pastors must unite and destroy that satanic sect.”

Khupe Rejected In Chivi

29 June 2020

By Wezhira Munya

Chivi North, MDC Alliance rural constituency throws its support behind President Chamisa…

Yesterday, 28th June 2020, MDC Alliance Masvingo provincial deputy treasurer, Mr Emmanuel Chidaushe had meetings with Chivi North MDC Alliance structures.

The meetings were held in Chivi North wards 2 and 3.

The main agenda of the meetings was to inform the MDC Alliance rural structures about the political current developments.

98% of Chivi North MDC Alliance district leaders, branch chairpersons and organising secretaries attended these meetings.

In addition, Masvingo women provincial treasurer Mrs Bakali was in attendance. Mrs Bakali is also a MDC Alliance councillor who in 2018 harmonised election defeated Zanu PF and MDC T led by Khupe council candidates.

Furthermore, all Chivi North 2014 ward chairpersons and 95% of Chivi North district leaders attended yesterday’s meeting. This means that MDC T led by Khupe, Mudzuri, Mwonzora and Komichi will not have Chivi North delegates at their congress slated on 31 July 2020. This a big blow to MDC T Khupe cabal.

Commenting, on the meetings Mr Emmanuel Chidaushe, MDC Alliance Masvingo provincial deputy treasurer said, “We held a highly successful meetings in wards 2 and 3 in Chivi North. I informed the Chivi North MDC Alliance structures that our President is advocate Nelson Chamisa. In addition, l explained to them about the court rulings that gave Khupe power to occupy our Morgan Tsvangirai headquarters and recall of our 13 member of parliament. Everyone at the meeting pledged support to President Chamisa and MDC Alliance party.”

Mr Joachim Chiware on behalf of Chivi North district said, “As Chivi North district we are not going to betray president Chamisa by joining MDC T led by Khupe. MDC T led by Khupe is being funded by Zanu PF. Khupe is in Polad and all court judgements are product of romantic relationship Khupe and ZANU PF are having in Polad. Therefore, we as Chivi North district refuse to join Zanu PF through MDC T.”

Also, MDC Alliance Chivi North district secretary leader Farai Zavidze said, “As Chivi North will resolved never to attended MDC T Khupe led extraordinary congress, we refuse to partake in the devil’s communion. Khupe, Mwonzora, Komichi and Mudzuri are Bishops of evil Zanu PF who are on the mission to destroy MDC Alliance. However, president Chamisa and MDC Alliance remain popular. In 2018 harmonised elections we voted for President Chamisa, President Chamisa got almost
2, 2 million votes according to rigged results announced by Zec. Khupe got 45 000 votes. How can we leave a popular President Chamisa and join rejected Khupe? “

Shadow councillor and MDC Alliance Masvingo provincial women assembly treasurer Amina Bamako said, “I pledge my full support to MDC Alliance and President Chamisa. I rest assure you that l will not betray you by joining MDC T led by Khupe.”

Mrs Mutisi, the wife of former Chivi North district chair said, “We, in Chivi North we are educating and informing our structures and support that, President Chamisa is still our President. We are also informing them that MDC T led by Khupe, Mwonzora, Komichi and Mudzuri is a proxy of Zanu lacoster, with intention to destroy MDC Alliance. ZANU PF’ s president Emerson Mungagwa is on the revenge mission after he was defeated by President Chamisa and MDC Alliance in 2018, harmonised elections.”

In Chivi North, the prices of basic commodities such as sugar, mealie-meal, cooking oil, rice have skyrocketed. The current drought has made life difficult in Chivi North. Many people are experiencing hunger.

Masvingo MDC Alliance provincial deputy treasurer , Mr Chidaushe gave $100 each to Chivi North 2018 election agents. Mr Chidaushe was not MDC Alliance candidate in 2018 harmonised elections. On paying election agents, Mr Chidaushe said, “l have paid $100 each to our election agents because they played great role in defending our President Chamisa, our councillor and our member of parliament votes. I value their hardwork.”

Currently, Mr Chidaushe has donated soccer balls to Chivi North youth. Youth in Chivi North will have soccer and netball tournaments that will be bank rolled by Mr Chidaushe.

In the next few days, Mr Chadaushe will be in other Chivi North wards educating them about difference between MDC Alliance party led by charismatic president Chamisa and unpopular MDC T led by Khupe.

Mr Chadaushe and Chivi North MDC Alliance leaders observed a minute of silence in remembering MDC Alliance cadres who were killed by Zanu PF members. The month of June brings painful memories caused by Zanu PF members who killed our Members in June 2008.

Mnangagwa Government Specialises In Creating Problems For Citizens -Biti

Former Finance Minister and MDC Alliance Vice President Tendai Biti has said the move by the government to ban mobile money transactions and trading at the Stock Exchange does not make sense as they were not to blame for the prevailing economic downfall.

Commenting on the issue the firebrand politician and lawyer said:

It does not make economic sense. The reason why we have a black market in the economy is not because of Ecocash or the stock exchange, it’s because we are simply not producing.

You cannot have a government that specialises in creating difficulties for its citizens. Think of the millions of people who cannot access money in banks who rely on mobile transfers.

Biti’s sentiments were echoed by Zimbabwe Information and Communication Technologies chairman Jacob Mutisi who also said:

This will put a dent to our crippled economy and completely shut down the nation’s biggest e-commerce platform.

The problem in Zimbabwe is not Ecocash or mobile money fraud, externalisation or pure advanced airtime sales, but the dysfunctional government policies in general and on the fiscal and monetary policies in particular.

The move by the government to suspend trading at the stock exchange and ban some mobile money transactions came on the day the ZWL reached a new low and traded $100 against a single American dollar- The Standard

Another MDC Alliance Stalwart Arrested

By A Correspondent- Another member of the MDC Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa has been arrested in connection with a flash hunger protest that was launched in Warren Park on the 13th of May this year.

Three other MDC Alliance officials – Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova are now out of custody on bail after they were also arrested over the same matter.

The latest development was announced by the party via its accounts on social media platforms.

The MDC Alliance posted:

Makomborero Haruzivishe has been arrested at Mbare Magistrate court over the Warren Park Flash Demonstration. He has been taken to Harare Central CID Law and Order.

The state says those who participated in the protests violated lockdown regulations which prohibit gatherings comprised of more than 50 people.

Meanwhile, some view the latest arrests of opposition officials and human rights defenders is an indication of the state’s strategy to silence voices of dissent.

These arrests have attracted the attention of the international community which has in the recent past castigated the state.

“Baffling, MDC Leaders Endorsed ED’s Coup And Now In Bed With G40” – Done A Lot Worse, It’s A Madhouse

By Wilbert Mukori-

Dear Grace Kwinjeh

First of all, I would like to thank you for this insightful contribution, “Is Khupe an MDC or Zanu-PF creation?” in Bulawayo 24.

“A pattern that continues to repeat itself, each time Zimbabweans are in desperate need of opposition leadership, an internal implosion occurs at the top, which throws the party into a state of confusion, compromising its ability to deliver change to its supporters and Zimbabweans at large,” you said.

Given the fact MDC leaders have failed to implement even one token reform in 20 years; implementing reforms remains the number task for all the opposition parties in Zimbabwe to this day; proves that confusion has reigned supreme in the MDC none stop for the last 2 decades and counting.

Former US Ambassador to Zimbabwe 2004 – 2007, Chris Dell, said Tsvangirai was “a flawed and indecisive character who would be an albatross to the nation, should he get into power”! He could have said the same of the entire MDC leadership and still history would have proven him right!

Lo and behold! MDC did get into power or be it in the Government of National Unity (GNU) in 2008 to 2013. Tsvangirai and company had the golden chance to implement the democratic reforms the nation has been dying for. Not even the constant nagging by SADC leaders to “follow the Global Political Agreement (GPA) roadmap!” would force Tsvangirai and company to implement even one reform in five years.

Since the GNU, Zanu PF has allowed the opposition to win a few gravy-train seats, bait to entice they participate in the elections regardless of the glaring irregularities and illegalities. By participating the opposition have given the flawed electoral process credibility and the result legitimacy.

So, the golden opportunity presented by the GNU to end the curse of rigged elections was wasted. The nation remained stuck with the corrupt, incompetent and murderous Zanu PF dictatorship that rigged elections to remain in power. And, just to rub hot chilli in our sore eyes; by failing to implement the reforms and then participating in flawed elections; MDC leaders gave the vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy!

In our effort to get rid of the corrupt, tyrannical Zanu PF dictatorship, the first albatross round our necks; we risked life and limb to elect MDC leaders to implement the reforms. MDC leaders not only failed to implement the reforms but are now helping Zanu PF stay in power and thus have become the second dead-weight albatross accelerating our sinking into the abyss.

“Horrible contradictions exist, baffling for instance is that in just two years the same (MDC) leaders who endorsed the coup against the late former President Robert Mugabe, were soon in bed with him and are now working with his close allies,” you observed.

Zimbabwe politics is a madhouse! Whilst one lot of MDC leaders is having quality time with Mugabe and G40 faction, the second lot is having quality time too. The cries of innocent people shot dead for protesting rigged elections or soaring cost of living provided the romantic ambience to Mnangagwa’s “small-house” POLAD marriage!

“Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate!” (Abandon all hope, ye who enter here!) reads the inscription at the gate into Hell, according to Dante. Enter and there is no coming back!

When MDC leaders failed to implement even one reform in five years of the GNU they proved they had gone beyond the point of no return. There was nothing under the sun they would not do for selfish gain. As for implement the reforms, they had thrown them out of the window during the GNU there was no retrieving them, much less implement them.

The real tragic is, there are still a number of Zimbabweans who acknowledge MDC leaders have indeed failed to implemented even one reform in 20 years and yet they refuse to believe their own eyes even now with all the benefit of hindsight. It is these naïve and gullible voters who continue to follow MDC sell-outs blindly like sheep to the slaughter. Their blind loyalty give discredited MDC leaders credibility just as the MDC leaders themselves are giving vote rigging Zanu PF legitimacy!

A naïve and gullible electorate are a curse to democracy. And as long as a significant number of Zimbabweans remain naïve and gullible there is no hope for us ever getting out of the hell-on-earth we now find ourselves stuck in. None!

“Motlanthe Was Set Up To Absolve Mnangagwa And Army From The Killings”

JUNE 29, 2020
The Crisis in Zimbabwe Coalition (CiZC) is shocked by the government of Zimbabwe’s claims that it fully complied with recommendations of the Motlanthe Commission of inquiry into August 1, 2018 events during which the army killed six civilians with 35 others injured.

As a Coalition, we view such an announcement, without any evidence backing it, as a refusal by the government to be accountable for human rights violations and lack of respect to the unfortunate lives lost, a situation that has hindered previous efforts on National Healing and Reconciliation.

It is evident that none of those responsible for the killings has been brought to book and convicted.

Further to that, members of the Army and Police who were in breach of their professional duties and discipline are yet to be identified for their internal investigations and appropriate sanction as again recommended by the Commission.

If in any case, the Commission recommendations had been implemented, then some of the killings, beatings and human rights violations perpetrated during the lockdown might have been prevented.

It is important to underline that there has not been any meaningful or sincere effort towards reform and transformation from the government of Zimbabwe except mere politicking.

National Healing and Reconciliation also recommended by the Motlanthe Commission continues to be a pipe dream in Zimbabwe owing to lack of sincerity on the part of authorities and this explains why results of the Commission that investigated the Gukurahundi Massacres which claimed more than 20 000 lives remains a top-secret up to now. Victims of these massacres, their relatives, stakeholders and the nation at large have waited for justice in vain for more than three decades.

As a Coalition, we have always maintained that the Motlanthe Commission was set up with an interest to absolve President Emmerson Mnangagwa, ZANU PF and the Zimbabwe National Army from the killings of civilians who were demonstrating against electoral fraud.

We reiterate that, those involved in the killings should be brought to book and that the government should fully compensate all victims of August 1, 2018 army shootings.

We recommend that the government should set up an all-inclusive National Dialogue platform and an all stakeholders healing and reconciliation platform for the country to move forward.

FULL TEXT- JUNE EXAMINATIONS TO PROCEED

The minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Cain Mathema has said June examinations will proceed as initially planned.

The statement is issued amid resistance from teachers and learners to the proposed dates.

They argue that the dates are inconvenient since learners had no time for studies adding that some schools have not taken enough required measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic which saw studies suspended in March.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is adamant that necessary measures to ensure the safety of candidates and invigilators are already in place.

Below is Mathema’s press statement in full.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education would like to advise parents/guardians, learners and the public that the ZIMSEC June 2020 Examinations are set to commence as scheduled on Tuesday, the 30th of June 2020. The examination timetable, as announced by ZIMSEC, will be adhered to.

The Ministry would like to assure the nation that necessary measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of candidates and invigilators during the course of the examinations. To this end, thermometers, disinfectants, face masks, wash facilities and hand sanitisers have been procured for all examination centres to protect from COVID-19. Examination centres have also been disinfected in line with Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) guidelines.

I would like to extend my sincere gratitude, to His Excellency, President E.D. Mnangagwa, Her Excellency, the First Lady Amai Auxillia Mnangagwa, the Inter-Ministerial Taskforce on the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, led by Hon. Vice President K.C.D. Mohadi, the Ministry of Health and Child Care and all the other Ministries for their guidance and assistance in getting the centres ready for examinations in line with the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines.

ED Advisor Mocks Govt Over “Zimbabwe Is Open For Business” Mantra

By A Correspondent- Pastor Shingi Munyeza who is a member of the Presidential Advisory Council (PAC) initiated to advise president Mnangagwa has said mocked the president’s “Zimbabwe is Open for Business” mantra.

He said instead of opening the country’s doors to the international and local investors, Zimbabwe has registered an increase in the number of human rights abuses and bad governance practices. He posted on Twitter:

“ZIMBABWE IS OPEN FOR BUSINESS” Our new “BUSINESS” is now 1. CORRUPTION 2. INCOMPETENCE 3. POLICY INCONSISTENCY 4. ABDUCTIONS 5. GENERAL CLUELESSNESS

TSVAGAI CHATEMESA MUSORO VEDUWE [Address the real issues]

In 2017, when he ascended to power replacing his long time boss and mentor, President Mnangagwa announced that Zimbabwe had opened for business following two decades of isolation from the international community.

He also pledged to fight corruption which is arguably one of the issues that have seen the country’s once-vibrant economy collapsing.

The mantra resulted in the implementation of a cocktail of measures meant to engage and re-engage the international community although some argued that the measures, including economic and political reforms, were superficial.

A year later, reports of human rights violations and corruption were reported with government officials and state security forces being the main culprits.

“Net Closing In On Coup Instigators,” Govt

Oppah Muchinguri

Zimbabwe today said that it was not taking lightly attempts to instigate instability in the country through spreading rumours of an imminent coup, and will bring to book those peddling the falsehoods.

Early this month, the government and security services dismissed reports of an imminent coup, saying this was part of a wider plot to destabilise the country.

This was after various online media carried claims of an imminent military coup backed by opposition and disgruntled former members of the ruling ZANU-PF party.

In dismissing the alleged coup, Home Affairs Minister, Kazembe Kazembe said not only were the rumours of a coup false, they were meant to instigate it and trigger instability in the country.

Kazembe said self-exiled former Cabinet Minister Saviour Kasukuwere, opposition MDC-Alliance member Job Sikhala, a number of civil society organisations and certain diplomatic missions were actively supporting and peddling the false coup narrative.

Today, Defence and War Veterans Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri told Parliament that such misinformation was dangerous and purveyors of it ought to be dealt toughly.

“These are people who are bent on bringing the country into disrepute so I cannot tell you how we are going to deal with it but the net is closing in on them, I can assure you. This is not something we can take lightly,” she said.

She said the Zimbabwe Defence Forces was a professional unit, which carried out its duties in terms of the Constitution.

“We are dealing with it. We have to deal with it because they misinform (the public). We already have a bill to that effect on how we deal with people who peddle lies particularly on security situations because what we want is for our people at every given time to have confidence in their own security forces, their capacity and capability to protect the people of Zimbabwe and also for us to be able to operate and ensure that we develop our country.”

Zimbabwe Important Lessons From Malawi: Banda Back In Power

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | It is possible in theory to distinguish revolutionary parties from those parties working within the mandate of temporal popularity. But the distinction is not always easy to make, because the same parties may sometimes make use of both procedures, either simultaneously or successively, depending on the circumstances. Africa saw the revolutionary parties taking over from the colonial masters. But terrorist and disruptive activities by the colonial puppets mobilised citizens and to demonstrate against legitimate governments.

The people’s leaders were called dictators and indeed many revolutionary parties were booted out of power in a fashion celebrated as democratic yet it was a lot of steps backwards. At the beginning of the 20th century, leftist trade unionists extolled the revolutionary general strike, a total stoppage of all economic activity that would paralyze society completely and put the government at the mercy of the chancers known as opposition.

In order for citizens to be able to make an intelligent choice of representative or president, it is necessary for them to know the real political orientation of each candidate. Party membership provides the clearest indication of this. The programs and promises of each individual candidate are not too significant or informative, because most candidates, in their attempt to gain the most votes, try to avoid difficult subjects; they all tend to speak the same language—that is, to camouflage their real opinions.

Zimbabweans were so excited by the results of the elections in Malawi where the Malawian Congress Party with the help of some few parties romped to victory. The electoral triumph of Mr Lazarus Chakwera in the Malawian presidential election re-run had sent people thinking. It is this Malawian Victory which makes Zimbabweans think very hard about their own country. Mr Chakwera won the elections with 2.6 million votes, ahead of incumbent president Peter Mutharika who polled 1.75 million followed by a little-known Peter Kuwani who had 32 400 votes. As Mr Chakwera was sworn in as the new President of Malawi, rightfully most Zimbabweans wished this was done in their own country. The only reality was that our wishes are already our horses. Mr Chakwera’s win is a statement and a stark warning to the so called progressive parties in Africa. Looking deeper in this victory Zimbabwe must learn that it is a blessing to remain with the party you know better. An evangelist, Mr Chakwera is not new to the Malawi political scene. He won the elections as a candidate for a nine-party coalition, the Tonse Alliance.

Since the departure of Kamuzu Banda, Malawi has never been better. All the opposition party leaders who ruled Malawi after Banda made the country poorer and poorer. The joy shown when MCP won the elections reflected the suffering the Malawians have under the opposition leadership. From 1994 the MCP has been out of power and Malawians experienced the worst governments and their economy crumbled.

Malawi wanted the first love to come and restore order in Malawi. That is the period the MCP has been out of power since the 1994 elections. The MCP is back to restore the country to the right path. It has been diverted from the freedoms the revolutionary fathers had fought for.

Malawi groaned under the opposition for too long and they wrote their regret with their own blood and understandably they had to fight again to get their liberators back.

During his inauguration speech, Mr Chakwera mentioned that there was good governance under MCP. “Now, I am no stranger to the benefits of good government. Although I was raised in a poor village like most Malawians; raised without inherited riches or political connections like most Malawians; raised without electricity or running water like most Malawians; I stand here today because I had one of the blessings of God that young Malawians today do not: The blessing of growing up in a well-governed Malawi.”

The revolutionary parties have demonstrated good governance. Malawi has to stand resolute to bring back sanity by voting for the original liberators and the patriots. Malawi has been plunged in great darkness by the opposition. It took courage, blood and sweating for Malawi to be steered back. The path of freedom is that of honouring the dream of the founding fathers. It took the masses to restore whatever good the MCP was originally founded upon.

The Chetechete mantra which has gripped Malawian Mtharika followers had dragged the whole nation to the grave. This Mantra is very common in the Zimbabwean political table and indeed as in Malawi it will drag the whole nation to the grave.

Mr Chakwera in his speeches he made it clear that the wind of change only changes your future for the worst.

Malawi has simply taken the country back from the regime change agents and placed it back into the hands of capable original legitimate people.

When people refer to Malawi’s struggle as a struggle to give an opposition a chance they make me squeal. Malawi made its mistake and it burnt its fingers. This vote was a vote to correct the mistakes of the born free generation which was being persuaded by money and empty words.

Although Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi were once under one administration during the Rhodesia Federation and Nyasaland, the former remains distinctively different in that zimbabwe is the only one which literally took arms to liberate itself. The only important lesson we learn from Malawi is that you must learn to trust your liberators. Do not be swayed by the Mafikizokos.
By electing Mr Chakwera, Malawians are expressing their will to end family dynasties and rediscover their soul by going back to the source.

Malawi now stands with Zimbabwe shoulder to shoulder in having the liberation parties in-charge of the administration of the nation. The message sent to us is that put your trust where your source of inspiration is. In South Africa we have ANC, Namibia (SWAPO), Angola (MPLA), Zimbabwe (ZANU PF), Mozambique (FRELIMO) and Tanzania’s Chama Cha Mapinduzi. Malawi is the latest addition to the golden pride of Africa. Zimbabwe has been given a good lesson to trust former liberation movements to govern their national affairs.

The lies by the opposition has been exposed by the people in Malawi. Zambia is looking forward to the return of liberation powers. Zimbabwe has now learnt that all that glitters is not gold. All promises by the opposition is but just promises. Realities are found in your original party.

As Malawi celebrates today let’s all join them and say it is better to stay home with the home party than to wonder away from home with the Mafikizolos.

How Did The Military Generals Suddenly Become Smarter Than The MDC Alliance, A Party With All Its Lawyers? VIDEO.

EXCLUSIVE | ANALYSIS : While the MDC is “sleeping”, the Zimbabwe Defence Forces is talking, the military is planning, and the following is the Commander Valerio Sibanda detailing concerns about vote rigging:

“Why we went to the liberation struggle, why we participated in the liberation struggle, and remember this was an issue of one man, one vote.”

The last person to scream about the one man, one vote principle, is not even Emmerson Mnangagwa. It is the late Robert Mugabe and that was way back during the war days, explaining: “This is exactly what we are struggling to earn for our people, one man, one vote,” said Mugabe.

Was this achieved in the end, and if so, is it still working? Zvirikushanda here, zvichirikuita here? Tell us.

“Aiwa hazvichaita, no it’s no longer working,” says military coup tomboy, Godfrey Tsenengamu. He continues saying, “yes we wept about Chatunga and Robert junior, they were fun-lovers, but they were not thieves, but these Mnangagwa boys have turned out thieves,” concludes Tsenangamu.

While the MDC Alliance is investing time in attractive press conferences and eloquent speeches about the general subject of corruption, and even appointing a female spokesperson who’s got direct links to a top military protege, Kuda Musasiwa who assists the coup announcer, SB Moyo…

“The looters must pay back the money because corruption is killing us,” says Mahere, in her press address last week.

While all these attractive speeches are being staged out by Fadzai Mahere, the officers who shot people on the 1st August 2018, are miles ahead. They are already actioning Plan B. MDC Alliance is saying: corruption is killing us, but the military is a gear up. The soldiers say, one man, one vote has been violated. The military generals are clearer in defining Zimbabwe’s problems. How did the military generals suddenly become smarter than the MDC Alliance, a party with all its lawyers?

How did Kuda Musasiwa discover that there is an ongoing agitation to fire Nelson Chamisa’s spokesman, Dr Nkululeko Sibanda? It is an established fact that Musasiwa has been Mahere’s manager from the 2018 election period. So who is leaking Chamisa’s secrets at a sensitive time like this?

We sent out an advisory to Mahere on the 16th June 2020, which was still to be acknowledged two weeks later. – DOCUMENTARY CONTINUING – FULL PRODUCTION UNFOLDING….

Byo Police Shoot And Badly Injure Firewood Poacher

State Media

POLICE in Bulawayo have shot and injured a suspected cattle rustler after he ignored orders from the law enforcement agents to stop.

The injured suspect was rushed to a local hospital in the city where he is recovering.

National Police Spokesmen Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the incident.

Asst Comm Nyathi said it has become modus operandi for cattle rustlers to stash a stolen carcass under firewood and masquerade as firewood poachers.

He added that Pumula had become a hot spot for stock theft as cattle from neighbouring villages stary into the suburb, where criminals involved in cattle rustling pounce on the animals.

Most of the meat from the stolen beasts is sold in Bulawayo.

“This shooting incident involves a suspect who was transporting firewood and refused to stop. He drove away and, in the process, there was a chase and unfortunately police had to fire some shots. He got injured and is admitted at a local hospital,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

“People should not steal firewood and should not engage in criminal activities and must not flee from police officers. They must not try to evade police check points and must follow the normal procedures. It’s really unfortunate but at the end of the day the police have to do their work. The public should just appreciate that no one should engage in criminal activities,” he said.

Asst Comm Nyathi sad police officers fired warning shots as per routine, however the suspect did not heed the call to stop.

“So far we have established that this person was found carrying firewood and that firewood was illegally taken from the Pumula surroundings. Police officers fired warning shots, but he did not stop, so they have to do their job. Remember last week we had another incident where city of Bulawayo rangers were involved in a shootout with firewood poachers and possibly stock theft suspects. That area is becoming notorious for criminal acts,” said Assistant Commissioner Nyathi.

“Pumula area and areas surrounding areas, police have attended to cases of stock theft, where people come at night and kill cattle from neighbouring villages near Pumula, where they load the beasts in trucks and the put firewood n top, making it appear like they are just carrying firewood. They then drive into Bulawayo CBD at night and during the day, they sell the meat. One of the complainants who was a victim of stock theft made report and police where then on a patrol in view of laying a trap for these suspects,” said Asst Comm Nyathi.

June Examinations Start Tomorrow

Candidates registered for the Zimbabwe School Examinations Council (ZIMSEC) June 2020 Ordinary and Advanced Level examinations will write as scheduled, beginning tomorrow, despite calls by some unions to delay them until adequate safety measures against Covid-19 are in place.

Announcing the development at a press conference in Harare this afternoon, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Ambassador Cain Mathema reiterated that all obligatory processes have been put in place to ascertain “the safety of candidates and invigilators during the course of the examinations”.

“To this end, thermometers, disinfectants, face masks, wash facilities and hand sanitisers have been procured for all examination centres to protect from Covid-19” he said.

“Examination centres have also been disinfected in line with Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) guidelines.”

The examinations will run from tomorrow to July 22.

Minister Mathema expressed gratitude to the First Family, the Inter-Ministerial Taskforce against Covid-19, headed by Vice President Mohadi, the Ministry of Health and Child Care and other stakeholders for making the June exams a reality through their “guidance and assistance” in readying the centres in tandem with the World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines.

The June 2020 examination period for Ordinary Level will run from June 30 to July 20, while the Advanced Level session will begin on June 30 and end on July 23.

MISA Statement On Arrested Journalist

Ziscosteel Board Chairman Resigns After Criticising Mnangagwa’s Policies

Professor Gift Mugano,

Acting Zimbabwe Iron and Steel Company (ZISCO) board chairman, Professor Gift Mugano, has stepped down from his role after being accused of being critical of government policies.

In a letter to Industry and Commerce Minister Sekai Nzenza, the renowned economist, who was appointed acting chairman of the defunct steel maker in September 2019 alongside other board members- Constance Zhanje, Mabel Buzuzi, Sheila Hawa Mwasa Sidambe and Timothy Phiri- to spearhead the resuscitation of the Redcliff-based steel producer, said his public comments on government policies were viewed to be in direct conflict with his role as a board member of a State Enterprise”.

Last week, Nzenza appointed additional board members – Martin Manhuwa, Demand Gwatinetsa and Edmore Tafirenyika and acting chief executive officer, Farai Karonga, as part of efforts to bring back to life ZISCO, which government said remained of paramount importance considering its pivotal role in the mining and manufacturing sectors.

Mugano said some government officials called his criticism of government policies “inappropriate for someone heading a State entity’s board of directors”.

“As a follow up to our conversations over my comments on public media on government policies which are viewed by some sections of Government as in direct conflict with my role as a board member of a State Enterprise, I took a reflection of the concerns and decided to resign from the ZISCO board,” Mugano said in a letter to Nzenza dated June 29,2020.

He added: “The decision to resign is built on a firm view that I believe that my contribution on the policy discourse is of primary importance which cannot be forfeited in favour of maintaining a micro role as the interim chairman and Board member of ZISCO.”

Mugano decided to quit the board and be on his own, writing and speaking his views on government policies “without any constraint”.

“For avoidance of doubt, notwithstanding the arguments that my comments are negative and retrogressive, evidence shows that in a number of times policy makers regularly took up my submissions,” he said.

“In any way, the Second Republic, in line with the provision of the Constitution of Zimbabwe on freedom of expression, which is outlined in the Transitional Stabilisation Programme paragraph 1766, has opened the space for citizens which include commentators such as economists to freely express themselves. It is on the basis of the foregoing that I took a firm view that it is in the best interest of the country that I continue to provide uninterrupted and constructive views on various policies without any constraint for the interest of our beloved country. It is my sincere hope too that Government will remain open to divergent views on various policies and pieces of legislations.”

ZISCO stopped operating in 2008 owing to financial challenges. Efforts to try and bring it back have been futile. In 2015, an Indian investor Essar Africa Holdings pulled out of a deal to revive operations of ZISCO due to complications involving the steel maker’s global debts, effectively sealing the fate of t6he deal, which first stalled due to bickering within the inclusive government over mineral concessions. The deal later suffered from government pressure to have the Indian firm takeover all government debts.

Another deal with a Chinese investor, R and F collapsed last year.

Real Madrid Collect Crucial Points

Karim Benzema’s cheeky back heel  for Casemiro to slot home the only goal of the game ensured that Real Madrid beat Espanyol to go two points clear at the summit of the table last night.

While Zinedine Zidane’s charges were far from their best especially in the first and failed to tick against bottom-placed Espanyol, they did hold on for a crucial win which sends them back on top of the Spanish top flight.

Madrid’s win is however attracting less headlines compared to what is happening in their arch-rivals Barcelona’s camp.

The Catalan giants’s title pursuit went from bad to worse after they were held 2-2 by Celta Vigo on Saturday and according to reports in Spain, there was a heated confrontation after the game between Barca players and coach Quique Setien over the 61-year-old’s tactics and substitutions.

Spanish newspaper Marca reported that Setien ‘has lost the confidence of the Barca stars’ since they surrendered top spot to Real after the resumption of LaLiga, with the publication even claiming that the players ignore the coach’s instructions durings drinks breaks and listen to those of assistant Eder Sarabia instead.

A prominent figure among Kaizer Chiefs fans in South Africa, the 34-year-old former Warriors skipper had also become popular for his eye-catching taste in fashion which has not gone unnoticed by Mananela.

“I think Willard Katsande is one of the most exciting people on social media. He has created the 9th lane and is cruising nicely in it. Keep that lane Sir!!! Appreciated,” he wrote on Twitter.

Barcelona On The Verge Of Dismissing Coach Setien

Farai Dziva| Barcelona are planning to dismiss their coach Quique Setien.

Setien took the hot seat in January as a replacement for Ernesto Valverde. He signed a two-and-a-half-year contract with the Camp Nou side.

But results and performances have not improved since his arrival, and the Barca chiefs are losing confidence in him. The players have also turned against the gaffer due to “confusion at his tactics and unhappiness at his comments in the press”.

The Catalans recently surrendered their top spot to rivals Real Madrid and are two points behind.

What could save Setien’s job, however, is ending the season as La Liga or Champions League winners.

Barcelona’s European campaign will resume with a round of 16 second-leg clash with Napoli in August, having drawn 1-1 in the first game before the cup was suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Overwhelming Support For President Chamisa In Chivi

Dr Chakwera Victory, An Inspiration To Democratic Forces

Farai Dziva|The MDC Alliance has described Dr Lazarus Chakwera’s victory in the Presidential plebiscite in Malawi as an inspiration to democratic forces.

See full statement below:

The MDC Alliance extends its warm congratulations to President Dr Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera and the Tonse Alliance of Malawi upon their historic victory in the recent presidential election.

Your victory represents a triumph of courage and determination to fight for a just cause. We applaud the strength and willpower of Malawians who rose to defend their electoral democracy when it was under severe threat.

We draw profound lessons from that great effort. We applaud the courage shown by Malawian institutions that defended the Constitution and democracy during a difficult time.

Progressive nations are built upon strong institutions and Malawi has shown leadership in this regard. We congratulate these institutions for being true and faithful to their constitutional mandate.

We, in Zimbabwe, are inspired by your achievements and look forward to greater co-operation, assistance and solidarity as we work towards recovering our democracy.

Our region has suffered great adversity on the path of democratisation but moments of triumph such as yours provide great hope to all democrats.

Africa has been waiting for a new generation of leaders guided by progressive politics.

We urge you to use your leadership to open a new path for the continent and to strengthen democracy while meeting the expectations of the millions who trusted you with their votes.

The MDC Alliance will continue to support President Dr Lazarus Chakwera, the Tonse Alliance and the people of Malawi as they embark on the critical task of transforming the Warm Heart of Africa anchored on the Tonse Alliance’s powerful electoral manifesto:

Servant Leadership, Unity. Prospering Together, Ending Corruption and Rule of Law (SUPER).

Chamisa Turns To SADC For Solidarity

By A Correspondent- The Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) Alliance led by Nelson Chamisa has approached the regional body – the Southern African Development Community to persuade the leadership to “stand with the oppressed masses.”

Chamisa claimed that the ruling ZANU PF was abusing state institutions including Parliament and courts to force the biggest opposition in the country to come to the table.

Chamisa said:

Sadc must always seek solidarity with oppressed citizens. No single country problem is that country’s problem alone. A sneezing Zimbabwe will make the entire region catch a cold. A Zimbabwean problem, a Zambian problem, a Malawian problem ceases to be a single country’s problem.

Institutions of the State like the courts, the army, independent commissions must be professional and independent to ensure economic prosperity and political stability.

We are where we are because of disputed elections. Two years on, we have not resolved political questions.

This comes amid reports that state security forces are interfering in internal MDC affairs in which they are siding with the faction led by Thokozani Khupe.

Reports suggest that soldiers and police recently seized Morgan Tsvangirai Huse wich te MDC Alliance was using as its headquarters and gave it to the Khupe faction.

Chibaya Scoffs At “Coward” Khupe Cabal

By A Correspondent- Former MDC Alliance (MDC-A) MP for Mkoba, Amos Chibaya, has castigated MDC-T acting president Thokozani Khupe for expelling 13 legislators from Parliament who were voted on an Alliance ticket.

Chibaya, who is the MDC-A national organising secretary, together with 12 others, were recalled by Khupe from Parliament after they refused to dump Nelson Chamisa.

Said Chibaya:

This cowardly act defies logic and defeats the democratic will of the people who clearly voted for their preferred representatives in Parliament in the 2018 elections.

The unprecedented move by Khupe and cabal to recall us from Parliament will not deter our commitment to the people’s struggle.

We, however, remain resolute and committed to the people’s struggle and shall not sell our souls for a few pieces of silver.

The liberation of the Zimbabwean masses remains our guiding compass in the democratic struggle until we deliver a people’s government under President Advocate Nelson Chamisa.

Chibaya called on all MDC Alliance Members of Parliament, those recalled and who have so far been spared the axe, to remain vigilant and work hard in their respective party portfolios and constituencies.

He also thanked residents of Mkoba constituency for their unwavering support throughout the years he has been their representative in Parliament.

Dr Lazarus Chakwera

“Zanu PF Will, In The End Step Down Because The Economic Meltdown Is Politically And Socially Unsustainable”

By Patrick Guramatunhu- When Mai Mujuru was booted out of Zanu PF in 2014 within months she was criticizing Zanu PF and her former mentor, Robert Mugabe, for mismanagement, corruption, vote rigging, murderous oppression, etc., etc.

She had played her part in establishing and retain the Zanu PF dictatorship, she had her lion’s share of the spoils of power and for 34 years she had defended the dictatorship unreservedly and with no shame.

It was only after she was booted out of the party that she saw the evil of the dictatorship; her Dotito “puppy eyes opened”, as Mai Mujuru said herself.

It is interesting to hear what Professor Jonathan Moyo has to say about Zanu PF and his former colleagues now that he, like Mai Mujuru has been booted out of the party.

“While some may see ZanuPF as a political party, it has never been one. I did not have this view before 2000, but since then I have come to understand that ZanuPF is a system or culture steeped in the military; with a tainted history, a troubled present, with no future! The fact that ZanuPF is not, and I would say has never been, a political party, in the traditional sense of the term, has far reaching implications on why it must go,” said the Professor from his fox-hole in exile.

“When I reexamined the subtitle, “why ZanuPF must go”, on the back of the view of ZanuPF as a system & culture, it became clear that it should be: “why ZanuPF has gone”. The ZanuPF system or culture has disintegrated physically & hegemonically. What remains is its caricature!

“The crisis in Zimbabwe today is from the fact that, while ZanuPF has physically & hegemonically collapsed, the military which was embedded in ZanuPF since the 1975 Mgagao Declaration, staged a coup in 2017 to seize ZanuPF; thinking it was a going concern when it was debris!”

Zimbabwe’s economic mess and political paralysis started soon after independence when it became clear that Mugabe and his Zanu PF cronies were determined to impose a one-party state and they did not care two hoots about riding roughshod over the people’s freedom and rights including the promised “One man! One vote!” and even the right to life!

Robert Mugabe definitely viewed Zimbabwe as his trophy to do with as he pleased. And throughout his 37 years in power, that is exactly what he did.

“So, Blair, keep your England and let me keep my Zimbabwe.” Mugabe told his audience at the Earth Summit in Johannesburg in September 2002. And judging from how he had rob the nation blind, building his palatial Blue Roof mansion, amass farms and living a lavish lifestyle whilst millions of ordinary Zimbabweans lived in abject poverty, he clearly meant it literally as well as metaphorically!

The fact that Zanu PF had no guiding principles, values and coherent ideology, other than to seize and retain absolute power at all cost and loot, does not disqualify the entity calling themselves a political party.

Professor Moyo’s claim that the November 2017 military has, somehow, made Zanu PF worse must be dismissed with the contempt it rightly deserves.

The replacement of Mugabe, Moyo and a few other G40 leaders by Mnangagwa and his Lactose supporters was no more than a black mamba shedding its old skin – it is still a deadly snake.

It is also important to note that it was none other than Professor Jonathan Moyo who sat next to Patrick Chinamasa as he announced Zanu PF had never ever blocked any reform proposals.

The fact that not even one reform had been implemented in the five years of the 2008 to 2013 GNU was not Zanu PF’s fault. Of course, Chinamasa, said that with great pride for it was one of Robert Mugabe and Zanu PF’s finest hour!

The two and half years in exile have not transformed Professor Moyo from the ruthless Zanu PF’s chief propagandist and strategist who had kept Zanu PF in power from 2000 to 2017 into a human being who now sympathised with the tragic suffering ordinary people and wanted Zanu PF to go.

Not at all! Like our Dotito puppy, Moyo wants Zanu PF to go so he can returned to Zimbabwe and resume his political shenanigans and intrigue from where he left off.

“ZanuPF is no longer viable to exZanla commanders; is not an option for exZipra now in charge of ZDF & was rejected by voters in the 2018 polls! What is to be done? The people & the military must find each other.

The people embraced the military in Nov 2017. Now the military should make amends & embrace the people by respecting their 2018 vote for @nelsonchamisa. It’s the people who must govern, not the military!” argued Professor Moyo.

For the record, Professor Jonathan Moyo backed, morally and financially, Nelson Chamisa in the July 2018 elections. Of course, Moyo KNEW with no reforms Zanu PF will rig the July 2018 elections guaranteed and still he DID NOT advise Chamisa not to participate.

One can only assume that Professor Moyo must have believed Chamisa could still win rigged elections. If Chamisa had indeed won the rigged elections he would have wanted a cunning and ruthless advisor to show him how to take full advantage of Zimbabwe’s oppressive and dysfunctional political system. And guess who would fill that bill perfectly – Professor Jonathan Moyo.

No doubt Professor Moyo is aware that Mnangagwa and his regime and under ever increasing pressure to step down as the country’s economic meltdown gets worse. The corona virus has economic and humanitarian havoc the world over; the Zimbabwe economy was already in the gutter before the pandemic it is now sinking in the sewage without a strangle.

As long as Zimbabwe remains a pariah state ruled by corrupt, incompetent, vote rigging and murderous thugs; no one is going to help us. The pressure on Zanu PF to step down will increase as the country sinks deeper and deeper into economic abyss. Professor Moyo will fight hard to make sure “@nelsonchamisa” is the frontrunner to takeover should Zanu PF step down.

I believe Zanu PF will, in the end step down because the economic meltdown is politically and socially unsustainable. If MDC and/or Zanu PF play any part in the interim administration then it is almost certain that the democratic reforms to ensure free, fair and credible elections will not be implemented.

The two parties failed to get any reforms implement during the 2008 to 2013 GNU it is naïve to think they will do any better especially with the likes of Professor Jonathan Moyo as the chief advisor!

“We have located Davison Chamisa in Norton.
He was drugged ,brutalised ,assaulted and dumped at a railway line while unconscious.

“Khupe’s Congress Is A Zanu Pf Affair”

By A Correspondent- Opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa has said he will not attend the congress being organised by Thokozani Khupe and her allies Douglas Mwonzora and Morgen Komichi arguing that the congress was a “Zanu Pf baby”.

He was speaking in an interview with a South African news television channel Sunday.

Said Chamisa:

“The court ruled that the MDC-T must hold an extra-ordinary congress. We are not MDC-T, we are MDC Alliance. We have come together as the parties that had gone into different dimensions that were different and separate, you know the party that was led by Prof (Welshman) Ncube, you know the party that was led by former finance minister Tendai Biti.

All came together when there were invited by President Morgan Tsvangirai, the late. What we now have is MDC Alliance and MDC-T are two distinct political parties that cannot be joined, that cannot be confused, and that belonged separately that participated in the 2018 election separately.”

Chamisa scoffed at his rival Dr Khupe ading that it was shocking how she wanted to inherit another political outfit despite contesting against the same in the 2018 polls.

“Thokozani Khupe and MDC-T participated and got 45 000 votes, we participated and we got 2.6 million votes.

So the distinction is very clear, so what Mr Mnangagwa is trying to do is to conflate the two so that he confuses it and he forces us to be part of what he wants through the political dialogue in the POLAD.

I cannot attend a Zanu-PF congress, that is an MDC-T congress which is a separate party. Those who would want to participate are the ones who are entitled to as a voluntary association.

We are in the MDC Alliance, we are already re-tooling, and we are already regenerating our party making sure that we are ready for the next challenges and next battle. So, MDC Alliance is a stand-alone party.”

Army Trashes Reports That Soldiers Beat Up Civilians In Kwekwe, Kadoma

By A Correspondent- The ZNA has dismissed reports that members of its force attacked civilians in Kwekwe and Kadoma last week.

Social media had been awash with reports that soldiers assisting ZRP officers in enforcing lockdown adherence has assaulted people in Kadoma at Hammer and Tongues and in Kwekwe soldiers had barred ZIMRA employees to get into town after they reportedly failed to produce exemption letters.

In a statement which was in bad taste, Deputy Director Army Public Relations Major Alex Zuva said dejected and disaffected people were behind the reports which he claimed were fake:

There has been of late a systematic and well-choreographed assault on the ZNA which is deliberately meant to soil and chip away the good image and reputation of the same in a bid to make citizens of Zimbabwe despondent, dejected and disaffected with the Government. It is rehearsed media violence to inflame physical violence.

Meanwhile, two journalists Munashe Chokodza and Leopold Munhende were attacked by soldiers in Harare’s Warren Park Suburb last week.

“Join Hands With The Opposition”Returning Zanu Pf Member Tells ED.

By A Correspondent- Returning Zanu-PF member Rugare Gumbo says that President Emmerson Mnangagwa need to join hands with the opposition and other social formations to end the country’s deepening political and economic crises.

Gumbo said that the dialogue mechanism is the most ideal way forward. He said Zanu-PF on its own cannot solve the current crisis.

Gumbo also said that he had not applied to rejoin the party, but he had been invited back. He is now waiting for official confirmation.

Meanwhile, opposition MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa yesterday accused President Emmerson Mnangagwa of abusing State institutions to push his party into dialogue, pleading with Sadc and the international community to stand in solidarity with the ‘oppressed people of Zimbabwe’.

Chamisa said Mnangagwa was using the courts, Parliament, the army and police to silence and decimate the MDC Alliance by sponsoring some elements within the opposition movement as a way of pushing for a one-party State.

We have located Davison Chamisa in Norton after been drugged, brutalised, assaulted and dumped in a railway line whilst unconscious He was injected with an unknown substance and made to consume pills and was forced to drink the torturer’s urine. He can’t walk.

This comes when the investigations into allegations of abduction and torture as well as sexual assaulta of three MDC Alliance trio – Joana Mamombe, Cecilia Chimbiri and Netsai Marova are not yet complete.

The government however has argued that the alleged kidnappings are being staged to soil the image of the president Mnangagwa-led administration.

Chihuri’s Dossier Opens A Pandora’s Box

By A Correspondent- Exiled former Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri has exposed how serving and former top government officials and service chiefs allegedly used their spouses as conduits to grab lucrative tenders in government and security establishments.

The ex-police boss, believed to be hiding in South Africa after he was hounded out of office during the November 2017 military coup which toppled the late former President Robert Mugabe, has submitted a 25-page dossier to the High Court to defend his properties which are under threat of seizure by the State over allegations of being proceeds of corruption.

He stands accused of diverting US$32 million of public funds to acquire a sprawling family business empire and properties in his 25 years as police boss.

In an affidavit filed at the High Court on Friday, which has opened a can of worms, Chihuri said there was nothing unusual about his wife, Isobel Halima Khan, through her companies, supplying goods and services to the police force as other service chiefs did the same.

Chihuri claimed Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga’s ex-wives Jocelyn Chiwenga and Marry Mubaiwa feasted on government tenders, supplying police and the army with reflective sleeves and serving as government’s travel agent, respectively.

Also named were senior police officers and their spouses, including former Senior Assistant Commissioner Charles Makono and his wife Abigail Makono, owners of Rewstand (Pvt) Ltd which also supplied uniform fabrics for over $10 million as part of promoting Zanu-PF’s indigenisation policy.

“I saw nothing wrong in her (my wife) supplying, as most of the service chiefs’ spouses supplied things, eg Jocelyn Chiwenga supplied ZRP

and the army with traffic sleeves, etc,” Chihuri said.

“Marry Chiwenga was a travel agent for government departments and a written instruction was given by the Office of the President and Cabinet for her to supply tickets for the entire government.”

He said a lot of senior officers across the rank and file, including his then deputy Godwin Matanga and wife, supplied “a wide range of vegetables and meat to ZRP amenities”.

“These officers supplied large quantities of beef, chicken, vegetables, fruits and goods according to their ability as a general practice in support of indigenisation,” Chihuri said.

He raised several constitutional questions about the manner in which the National Prosecuting Authority had set about hunting down his assets, and freezing them.

Chihuri said the June 12 “unexplained wealth order” which requires him to prove his innocence against alleged criminal activity violates his right to presumption of innocence until proven guilty, guaranteed by section 70 of the Constitution.

The order was granted by Justice Felistas Chatukuta following an application by Prosecutor-General Kumbirai Hodzi to force Chihuri and his spouse to explain how they acquired their vast empire, which includes immovable properties and companies.

Chihuri, however, claimed he was being hounded by President Emmerson Mnangagwa as part of a protracted fight that started during the liberation struggle when the latter reportedly snatched his pregnant wife.

He added that he was being persecuted for refusing to take part in the November 2017 military coup that toppled Mugabe.

The former police boss said his firms, NodPack, Adamah, Croxile and Mastaw were subject to processes of internal tendering by Matanga, adding that during that time, the Quartermaster (the late Senior Assistant Commissioner Earnest Muchenjekwa) dealt with over 200 companies.

“Why pick on these few if it’s not persecution?” Chihuri asked rhetorically.

He said to prove that he was being politically persecuted, all service chiefs who served under Mugabe were reassigned, except him, with some now serving in Mnangagwa’s administration as Cabinet, ambassadors or permanent secretaries.

Chihuri said his persecution had been extended to his farming business, where his grain was rejected by all Grain Marketing Board depots.

“As an example of the level of persecution is that, in the harvest season of 2017/2018, I took my maize to GMB (Grain Marketing Board) Shamva depot as usual. Four big haulage trucks (gonyeti) were returned with the load of maize to us, GMB citing that was an instruction given from above not to receive our maize or any of our produce.”

He said attempts to take the grain to GMB depots in Chitungwiza and Aspindale hit a brick wall until he ended up distributing it for free.

Chihuri also questioned why there were attempts to seize his upmarket house in Gletwyn built on two adjacent stands, and yet all top service chiefs allocated stands in the area were allowed to consolidate two stands into one.

He said as a result of the sinister motive, current Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs minister Apolonia Munzverengi, a former Senior Assistant Commissioner (SAC) in the ZRP, had grabbed records for the property.

“These records were subsequently grabbed by Ms Apolonia Munzverengi, who is the ex-ZRP SAC, and she is now minister and governor of Mashonaland East province, who claims that this ZRP housing project is hers,” he said.

“She has consolidated two stands in both phase 1 and phase 2 of the project. All this, with the concurrence of Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga, because he wants to get at me.

“We are not the only ones who consolidated two stands and bought more than one stand. Apolonia Munzverengi, our neighbour, put two stands together in both phases one and two.

“ZRP ex-Commissioner Oliver Chibage has consolidated two stands. Former Deputy Commissioner-General Innocent Matibiri consolidated two stands. Farai Matsika did so too.

“Honourable Vice-President Chiwenga has two stands there and also joined two other additional stands to make one stand, which is huge because it was earmarked for a hotel on a kopje.”

“As far as Gletwyn is concerned, my persecutor and tormentor Apolonia Munzverengi is persecuting me because she stole US$77 000 from the project and her runners shared US$23 000. That is the reason why she left the ZRP.”

Mayor Gomba Accused of Manipulating Moyo and Chidawu

By Tafara Domboka| Underfire Harare Mayor Herbert Gomba is being accused of manipulating the minister of local government July Moyo and Harare provincial state minister Oliver Chidawu.

Sources who spoke to this publication accused Gomba of giving freebies to the two ministers in a bid to buy his freedom from the alleged corruption deeds he is being accused of.

“We have established that Mayor Gomba gave Julius Moyo a hefty amount as a protection fee so that he cannot be recalled from his position by MDC-T secretary-general Douglas Mwonzora.

“The same amount is also believed to also cater for the protection of his close allies Denford Ngadziore , Hammy Madzingira, Lovemore Makuruwerere,Costa Mande and Girisoti Mandere,” said one source who requested anonymity.

There are also accusations that Chidawu was rewarded with a tender by Mayor Gomba as a way to appease him.

“Gomba recently awarded a tender for road refurbishments to Bitumen world, a company which Chidawu has interests,” according to another impeccable source.

The Harare Mayor has been under the spotlight for alleged grand corruption which involves illegal parcelling out of land and investigations into the alleged theft land is being scuttled by the Mayor again.

“There are investigations into land theft being led by Municipal Police Chief Security officer Tongoona and Gomba is said to be sending emissaries to silence him. The investigations have already led to the suicide of one employee and implicate the housing director Edgar Dzehonye and Isaiah Zvenyika Chawatama,” added the source.

Efforts to get a comment from Harare Mayor Gomba were fruitless.

Recently, The Harare Residents Trust (HRT) director Precious Shumba allegedly implicated Harare Mayor, Herbert Gomba in illegal land deals that have seen housing stands being parcelled out on wetlands.

He was speaking at a breakfast meeting on wetlands management which was organized by the Harare Wetlands Trust and the Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights (ZLHR).

Gweru Man Shot By Chinese National Compensated: Report

By A Correspondent- A Chinese company whose senior manager shot at an employee over a pay dispute has so far paid out US$20 000 for medical bills towards the victims’ family while the Asian national implicated in the case languishes in prison.

They have also paid out an unspecified amount as compensation to the employee for the incident

David Zhou, the leader of the Chinese business community in Zimbabwe told a press briefing on Friday that the family of  Kenneth Tachiona, who was allegedly shot on the ankle by Zhang Xuelin, a manager at Reden Minehas so far been given USD$ 20 000 while all medical bills are being catered for.

“We are helping in the best possible way that we can. This is a regrettable incident and we believe that it won’t happen again. We have also assisted Wendy Chikwaira who was also shot on the arm and we are still engaging the concerned families so that we can find a solution to this,” said Zhou.

Chikwaira and Tachiona reportedly approached Xuelin to demand their unpaid wages before they got into a brawl that ended when he shot and wounded them.

Tachiona is recovering at Midlands Provincial Hospital in Gweru where he was admitted while Chikwaira was treated and discharged.

Zhou said the behaviour of Xeulin was personal and does not reflect the entire Chinese community in Zimbabwe.

The company stated that mine manager who is still in police cells fired two shots in the air but the employees, who were demanding to be paid in USD$, continued to charge towards him. Out of fear he shot the victim on the ankle.

China and Zimbabwe have long-standing friendship and cooperation but the Asian giant has often being accused of abusing the cordial relations.

Reeden Mine is located some 25 kilometers (15.5 miles) south of Gweru along the Matobo road.
