Billiat Urges Soccer Fans To Stay Indoors

JOHANNESBURG. — Kaizer Chiefs star Khama Billiat has lent his voice to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic by urging football fans to act responsibly in these difficult times.

The Zimbabwean international is one of the most recognisable stars in the COSAFA region and has been on lockdown in South Africa since 27 March and will have to stay at home until 30 April at least.

That has meant a lot of training in the back garden as he seeks to keep fit in a bid to lead Chiefs to their first Premier Soccer League title since the 2014/15 campaign.

Chiefs are trying to hold off the challenge of Billiat’s former club Mamelodi Sundowns and hold a four-point lead over The Brazilians, though they have played a game more.

The South African league is set for a thrilling finish when football does resume on a date that has yet to be determined.

Billiat’s club Chiefs, along with their great Soweto rivals Orlando Pirates, also this week pledged to donate 4 000 testing kits and protective gear to healthcare workers and law enforcement agencies on the forefront of the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic. — Sport24

Robbers “Terrorize” Residents During Lockdown

POLICE have urged people to comply with the stay-at-home order as robbers are increasingly targeting those moving around unnecessarily during the lockdown.

The Minister of Health and Child Care Dr Obadiah Moyo recently published Statutory Instrument 83 of 2020 (Covid-19 Prevention, Containment and Treatment) (National Lockdown) Order, 2020 after consulting President Mnangagwa to restrict the movement of people for 21 days to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said there have been robberies reported by complainants who also stand accused of violating lockdown rules.

“While we are saying that it’s a crime to loiter around, people are not heeding the call and some are seen wandering around the streets and bushes and become targets for robbers,” said Insp Ncube.

“Realising that there are few chances of their victims getting assistance from the public during the lockdown, robbers are on high alert to pounce on members of the public. We urge the public to take the lockdown seriously and focus on the fight against Covid-19.”

Insp Ncube said their plea for people to stay at home comes at a time when they are investigating a case of a woman who was robbed of a phone and $8 while walking with a five-year-old child in a bush in Mpopoma suburb.

Insp Ncube said the woman was rescued by a passerby who apprehended her attacker Nigel Rusike (18) of Mpopoma and handed him over to the police.-State media

People With Disabilities Drag Mnangagwa Government To Court Over Selective Dissemination Of Information

PERSONS with disabilities have sued government for failing to use accessible formats in disseminating information concerning the coronavirus (Covid-19).

In an urgent chamber application filed in the High Court by Centre for Disability and Development, Deaf Zimbabwe Trust and Zimbabwe National League of The Blind, Zimbabwe Broadcasting Holdings (Pvt) Ltd, Information minister Monica Mutsvangwa, Health minister Obadiah Moyo and Public Service minister Paul Mavima were cited as respondents.

They want ZBC ordered to immediately provide sign language or captions on all its content on ZTV pertaining to coronavirus during and after the lockdown for the benefit of the deaf and hard-of-hearing people in Zimbabwe.

The advocacy groups want Mutsvangwa and Mavima ordered to immediately distribute Braille pamphlets, audio versions, large text, and readable digital text to visually-impaired persons throughout Zimbabwe.

They also seek to have Mutsvangwa ordered to immediately issue a statement urging private entities, including mass media and hospitals to ensure that any services they provide to the public relating to Covid-19 (including information, testing, treatment etc) are accessible to persons with disabilities.

Masimba Kuchera, executive director and trustee at Centre for Disability and Development said they had written to ZBH since 2016 seeking redress on the implementation of sign language in its television programmes.

The court heard on April 3 Deaf Zimbabwe Trust sought legal assistance from Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights and a letter was written and served to the national broadcaster and Mutsvangwa to provide alternative accessible formats of information.

However, Kuchera claims that since then there has not been a consistent implementation of sign language to cater for the interests of deaf and hard-of hearing persons.

Kuchera noted with concern how Mnangagwa’s announcement of the national lockdown, Mutsvangwa and (Obadiah) Moyo’s updates and inter-ministerial task force’s updates and other programming related to Covid-19 failed to accommodate their needs.

“These are critical updates and information which are not necessarily covered in full or at all in prime-time news meaning that our members are kept in the dark,” Kuchera said.

“What has prompted this application is a series of events that have posed a grave danger to all persons with disabilities given the information gap they are experiencing.

“The platforms being used to communicate information are not accessible to persons with disability.

“Statements from the ministry of Health have typically been circulated as a scanned image which is not readable for blind persons.-Daily News

Dynamos FC Players Expose Themselves To Coronavirus?

Dynamos coach Tonderai Ndiraya said the club has launched investigations into reports that some players are engaging in dawn training sessions that involve full contact in violation of the 21-day national lockdown rules.

Speaking to NewsDay on Wednesday, Ndiraya said DeMbare players were given individual training programmes that they must follow during the stay-at-home period and those who violated the restrictions will be punished.

Said Ndiraya:
We gave our players individual training programmes that they must follow during this lockdown.

I have asked someone and have been told that the players do morning training sessions from around 5am, but the problem is that we do not allow them to engage in full-contact matches, so we are investigating on our side and some people could be punished.

Reports indicate that players from several Premier Soccer League clubs, among them Dynamos, Harare City, Ngezi Platinum Stars, Triangle, Cranborne Bullets and Black Rhinos, have been training in groups at the break of dawn to keep fit ahead of the 2020 season.

Meanwhile, the nation is eagerly waiting and wondering what will happen when the 21-day lockdown lapses on Sunday, with clubs hoping to return to training next week in preparation for the new season.-NewsDay

Botswana Refutes Social Media Reports On Deportation Of Zimbabweans

NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING
NATIONAL, BUSINESS, BREAKING

The Ministry of International Affairs and Cooperation notes with deep concern the misinformation and distorted reports on social media platforms purporting that the Government of Botswana has embarked on forceful deportation of Zimbabwean nationals.

The assertion being made is completely inaccurate.

The fact of the matter is that the recent repatriation exercise was undertaken jointly with the Government of Zimbabwe, following requests from Zimbabwean nationals who wanted to be assisted to return home amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and the lockdown measures put in place.

In the spirit of solidarity and the excellent relations between the two countries, on 16th April 2020, two hundred and fifty-five (255) Zimbabwean nationals were voluntarily repatriated from Botswana by road and received by Zimbabwean authorities at the Ramokgwebana Border Post.

In appreciating the consequences of the lockdown on movement restrictions and in keeping with the spirit of the exercise, none of the repatriated individuals was charged for breaching immigration rules.

The Ministry wishes to underscore that Botswana and Zimbabwe remain committed to work closely together in responding to the outbreak of COVID-19 and mitigating its impact on both countries, as well as, on the livelihood of their nationals.

In this context, the two countries will continue to collaborate and coordinate voluntary repatriations when necessary.

The Ministry further wishes to inform that the Government of Botswana is also working with other governments to facilitate the voluntary repatriation of their citizens from Botswana.

“Dialogue, Not Court Rulings Is The Answer”

What is it that can bring together people who have lost feelings for each other? In my view, dialogue between the affected parties, not court rulings is the answer.

The courts obviously have a role to play to get estranged families to talk to each other in order to get back together, but I think there is a limit to which the courts can influence such decisions. The size of the families involved will matter, and in large families such as political parties, it is always difficult to reach unanimous agreement on how to resolve disputes.

But even when it comes to smaller families, take husband and wife who have fallen out and take their case to the courts, do we have a precedent at law when courts have ruled that the estranged couples must get back together? And coming back to political parties, do we have any precedence in politics where Courts have been successful in getting estraged political players to  get back together?

In as far as I am concerned, disputes of the nature affecting the MDC can only be resolved by negotiating, and I salute people like Mr Adednego Bhebhe is qouted saying “I would want a situation where both leaders come together so that we can come out this stronger”. I have said the same many times, to a point where I said if dialogue fails, then Advocate Chamisa and Dr. Khupe should kiss each other goodbye.

Where there is no agreement, no court of law can impose politicians on each other, and the Supreme Court judgement should be read in this light, that is why it gave it a time frame for which the suggested Extra Ordinary Congress should be held, and that is why it called it an academic judgement. In my opinion, no person in their right senses should wish beyond that.

I have seen information circulating that of all the MPs and Senators who are in Parliament and in Senate under the MDC Alliance ticket, only Senator Advocate Mwonzora and Senator Morgan Komichi are of the opinion that an Extra Ordinary Congress should be held, and if that is true, that should be enough indication of the opinion of the people.

It will be interesting to see where the people who are supposed to be part of the Extra Ordinary Congress stand – those people who were in the structures in 2014. I have seen a few on video who have distanced themselves from the Extra Ordinary Congress, and I have also seen also Advocate Mwonzora and Senator Komichi separately speak on video saying hundreds have been calling them to support the idea of the Extra Ordinary Congress.

That those people cannot speak for themselves raises eyebrows, but we can give Senators Mwonzora and Komichi the benefit of doubt, but at the end of the day it will be interesting to see what the majority of those people who are supposed to attend Congress say.

While it is good for people who started a project, the MDC in this case, should hang around together until the goals of the project to replace the Zanu PF regime is accomplished, people have different opinions which can cause conflict. What Mr Bhebhe has said is, let us get together and resolve this conflict, and I hope that beyond the media story, he is reaching out to the appropriate parties to get things resolved.

But of cause it is Corona time, and I respect the position by Advocate Nelson Chamisa who has remained calm and said he will only attend to these issues after Corona is resolved.

Looking it from another angle, the Supreme Court could have deliberately set up those wanting an Extra Ordinary Congress to fail, because the Court decided to announce the judgement knowing very well that the lockdown does not require people to move out of their houses.

Even after the lockdown, people will only be allowed to congregate after the situation has been reviewed, and given the warnings being given by the World Health Organisation, public gatherings may not be possible in the next 120 days from now.

So those who have been crying foul about why the judgement was announced during lockdown may have a good reason to celebrate, because the learned judges knew that public gatherings will only be allowed after the situation has been reviewed as this had been announced by President Mnangagwa.

Dialogue, not court judgements are the only. If dialogue failed, as it seems to have, people should be allowed to exercise their right to dissociate and associate respectively.

“Arrest Muchinguri Over Coronavirus Lies”

By Kennedy Kaitano- So, I read Emmerson Mnangagwa wants, or has already passed, a law that will cause those who peddle lies about Coronavirus to be arrested.

Very nobble idea which is long overdue since Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri told some ululating Zanu PF supporters that Coronavirus was invented by God to punish the Americans, and it only attacks the white people, not Africans.

That is such a serious crime which leads to people being careless and contracting disease, especially given the reaction of her audience who fully believed in their “brainless” leader.

If Muchinguri does not get arrested, then we will know that Emmerson Mnangagwa himself is fake news, and deserves 20 years jail

Mnangagwa’s actions are questionable and it boggles the mind whether he will touch Oppah Muchinguri, because after she peddled the falsehoods, she was appointed into Covid-19 Cabinet Taskforce, rendering his whole effort a huge falsehood on its own. Mnangagwa is just not serious, and a big joke himself.

Another candidate for arrest is MP Joseph Chinotimba, who also said Coronavirus was punishment from God for evil doing, likening it to the biblical Sodom and Gomorrah. Why was Emmerson Mnangagwa silent when Chinotimba was saying this? Emmerson Mnangagwa is just not serious.

Then came Mthuli Ncube, who was interviewed on television and said Zimbabwe was very prepared for Covid-19, and there was nothing to worry – wasn’t that a lie? And is Mthuli Ncube in jail?

Another question for Mthuli Ncube is, you have just declared $1 billion surplus, yet we are told by Professor Mavima that citizens who are hit hard by Coronavirus are receiving just ZW$200 as support package. Shame on you Professor Mthuli.

And the chief culprit himself, Emmerson Mnagagwa, bans public gatherings to be review 60 days from the day he made the declaration, and the following days addresses a Zanu PF rally. Turn yourself into prison Emmerson Mnangagwa, you are a national disgrace.

Government Officials “Scramble For Anointed Love Portion”

Farai Dziva|Sources in outspoken Masvingo based clergyman, Isaac Makomichi’ s Calvary Prayer Group have sensationally claimed that Government Ministers are flocking to the preacher’s place to obtain what he describes as the anointed love portion herb.

Game Rangers Kill Buffalo That Gored Zaka Man To Death

A 72-year-old Zaka man who was bathing in a stream was on Wednesday attacked and killed by a lone buffalo.

Police identified the deceased as Ephraim Chinyere from Ngwaru village under Chief Ndanga near Muchechetere Secondary School.

Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Charity Mazula said: “We have received information about a 72-year-old man who had gone out for a bath at the river and was attacked while bathing.

He sustained deep cuts on the ribs, buttocks and on the back and could have died due to excessive bleeding.”

Zimbabwe Parks and Wildlife Management Authority (Zimparks) spokesperson Mr Tinashe Farawo said the buffalo was tracked down and killed by game rangers yesterday.

“In the interest of protecting the public, our rangers had to put down the buffalo,” he said.

“Normally, we have the option of driving such animals back to the game reserve they have strayed from, but in this case, the animal had killed a person and was considered dangerous.”

A fellow villager, Mr Urayai Zava, said after the attack, the elderly man attempted to crawl back home, but could not make it to hospital in time.

“We alerted Zaka Police and they attended to the scene,” he said.

It is suspected that the buffalo came from either Kyle Recreational Park or Devure Ranch.

Some villagers from Zaka claimed that a few days before the attack, two buffaloes had been seen in Chiroma area near the border with neighbouring Bikita district.-State media

“Exiting The New Normal- A Look At Zimbabwe’s New Normal”

By Cynthia  Nyam  and  Chenesai Mukora-Mangoma- Zimbabwe has taken measures to contain the spread of COVID-19 by establishing isolation and testing centres, instituting border closures, encouraging the practice of social distancing and proper sanitation and hygiene and, enforcing a country-wide lockdown for 21 days.

As the deadline for the lockdown approaches, the question on everybody’s mind is what will society look like? What will be our new normal and how prepared are we for it?

For a country already battling an economic crisis, lifting restrictions may become as urgent as containing COVID19.

The WHO is developing a strategy for countries considering lifting restrictions, which will require that following conditions are met:

  • Controlled transmissions
  • Health systems with capacities to test, detect, isolate, treat and trace every case
  • Health facilities and nursing homes with minimised risk of transmission
  • Minimised importation risks and finally,
  • Citizens that are educated, engaged and empowered to adjust to the new situation

Keeping in mind that the lockdown must come to an end, let us map these criteria against what we know about Zimbabwe (also applicable to most African countries)

An important element for controlling transmission is testing and our current performance is subpar. As of April 14, Zimbabwe has conducted 665 tests with 18 positives and 647 negatives.

On average, the country is conducting about 28 tests a day and at this rate only 7,000 tests will be conducted by December 2020.

For a population of approximately 14 million people, we cannot depend on testing capacity to control transmission. With this in mind, the country however must lift restrictions.

Fixing the deplorable state of the health system, will need time, huge financial investments, capacity building and political will all of which are in short supply. Zimbabwe has very little chance of meeting this criterion but that notwithstanding, restrictions must be lifted.

Minimising importation risks will require diligent checks at all borders, quarantine measures and testing of both citizens and foreigners at all borders. Current capacity does not meet this criterion and is less likely to once neighbouring countries lift their border restriction. Despite this, we will have to lift restrictions.

What is inevitable here is that Zimbabwe will have to lift its restrictions and release the populace from the lockdown whether it meets WHO conditions or not.

Zimbabwe’s best chance at lifting the restrictions and minimising transmission is ensuring that its citizens are educated, engaged and empowered to adjust to the new situation.

The current lockdown thereby presents an opportunity to ideate on and simulate the new normal before the restrictions are lifted.

Here is what our new normal may look like till we completely eradicate COVID19

Masks will become part of our everyday lives. Adults and children will have to wear them every single day. Not just when we are going to the shops or other public spaces as is the case at the moment but at work, to drop the kids off at school, the kids will have to wear them in school and in playgrounds.

We will wear them in restaurants and when we are getting a haircut, or our nails done. For the foreseeable future, when we walk out of the door, we will need to pick up our masks just as we pick up our purses and wallets and wear them just after we wear our shoes. This is the only way we can safely contain transmission post-shutdown.

Social distancing is here to stay. Showing up to the doctor’s office or hospital will require prior consultation and clearance. Appointments will have to be made to access public offices and certain businesses.

Markets and shopping malls will continue to maintain at least a 1m distance between each customer and regulate the number of people in the building at any given time.

Open plan offices will need to be reassessed to maintain the required distance and more and more meetings and convening will happen virtually. Delivery services are going to become very popular.

Constant washing of hands and sanitising after every interaction is about to be second nature and proof of good hygiene and availability of sanitation facilities is going to be an important determinant of how we engage with people and businesses.

What actions should be taken to prepare for the inevitable end of the lockdown?

At individual level, each person including children should own at least 3 reusable, non-surgical masks. Visitors to wash hand and or sanitise before entering you homes and disinfect public areas like toilets and kitchen after use.

Phones, purses and wallet to be wiped down with sanitiser and particular attention to be paid to car door handles and doorknobs. As much as possible, keep windows and doors open to allow air circulation. Share accurate information to friends and family to keep them safe.

At national level, multi stakeholder consultations need to happen to develop social distancing and hygiene guidelines for different sectors to ensure that actions are comprehensive and targeted. Lifting of the shutdown will need to be strategic and sequential to allow for close monitoring of progress and corrective action where necessary.

The government and other stakeholders need to undertake a nation-wide communication drive to educate people on what to expect after the shutdown and the guidelines and measures in place.

The shutdown is an opportunity launch the communication campaign through different platforms so that people understand why these measures are in place and begin to acclimatise to the new normal.

Separate guidelines will have to be developed for education facilities, businesses, health facilities, public offices, transportation services among other covering requirements for hygiene and sanitation, social distancing and quarantine. For example, businesses that engage in external travel (outside the country) will need to take responsibility for the quarantining of their staff on return.

Service stations may consider providing services to disinfect public buses and taxis. Law enforcement will need to be deployed to monitor compliance to these measures and advise on corrective measures.

Hand washing stations will need to be installed at strategic points across the country to increase access to hygiene facilities.

The hope is that cross sectoral and multi-stakeholder consultations have already began and the government is tapping into the knowledge, experience and creativity of CSOs, local NGOs, development partners and the creative sector.

Beyond these is the strategic decisions that have to be made and actions that need to be undertaken so that as a nation, we are prepared for the inevitable lifting of restrictions whether by our own volition or from external pressures.

Zimbabweans Anxious To Hear About Lockdown, Will ED Reveal Way Forward During Address?

Emmerson Mnangagwa

By A Correspondent- When Zimbabweans watch President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s televised Independence Day address on Saturday, many will be anxious to hear if the 21-day lockdown that ends the following day will be extended or not.

Mnangagwa in recent days has not given any hint on whether his government will extend the lockdown but instead warned peddlers of fake news who posted reports on social media that he had extended the lockdown.

“We have a law that punishes those who peddle fake news and I have ordered investigations into those behind the fake statement,” said Mnangagwa.

If found, Mnangagwa said he wants the peddlers of the news to be jailed for a maximum period of 20 years.
“It is bad to peddle falsehoods especially about a President,” said Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa said he would eventually announce whether the lockdown has been extended after consultations with his deputies Kembo Mohadi and Constantino Chiwenga.

“It is expected that the President will announce on Independence Day whether we continue with the lockdown or not. I think that will be the highlight of his Independence speech because many Zimbabweans are keen to know whether or not the lockdown will be continued,” said a government official.

“No one really knows even within government what the decision will be so most of us are also waiting to hear what he will say.”-Online

4. Mandatory 21 day quarantine upon arrival in Zimbabwe

“Partially Open Businesses”: ZNCC Tells Govt

By A Correspondent- Businesses in Zimbabwe have called upon the government not to extend the 21-day lockdown but to partially open up the economy saying an extension will result in massive job losses.

The Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC), is lobbying the government to allow businesses to resume operations immediately.

In its report submitted to the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, ZNCC forecasted that 25 per cent of permanent jobs and 75 per cent of casual/temporary formal jobs will be lost if the lockdown period is extended. The report reads in part:

If the total lockdown is extended without resorting to partial lockdown some of the leisure and tourism operators might completely collapse.

With Government having set the minimum wage, affordability by businesses is going to be a challenge as businesses adjust due to the effects of COVID-19.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the government would make an announcement before Monday regarding a possible extension.

South Africa and Namibia recently extended their lockdowns in a bid to contain the spread of COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, with Zimbabwe expected to follow suit.-Statemedia

Back in the 20th century the Soviet Union fully endorsed the freedom aspirations and rendered the relevant assistance to the nation of Zimbabwe.

The liberation movement paved the way for a new page in the glorious history of this country as well as for a higher level of the deep-rooted and strong ties between Moscow and Harare. Russia continued to support the independent policy of Zimbabwe and played an important role as the UN Security Council Permanent Member in preventing  attempts from the outside on the sovereignty of the Republic. Over the years
Russia and Zimbabwe have been in close foreign policy coordination advocating for multicentric world order, opposing illegitimate sanctions and promoting the mission of the United Nations to maintain the modern architecture of the international relations.

The Second Republic ushered in an era of the socio-economic revival under the new dispensation with Russia participating in this process through the sustainable cooperation with the Zimbabwean Partners. The historic meeting of President Putin and President Mnangagwa in Moscow in January 2019 followed by the fruitful participation of the Zimbabwean Delegation in the first Russia-Africa Summit and Economic Forum in Sochi in October the same year produced a powerful impetus to the development of the bilateral interaction in various fields.

The flagship projects being implemented by the Russian diamond giant “ALROSA” and the joint company “Great Dyke Investments” operating in the sphere of platinum group of metals draw attention of the Russian business to the rich investment opportunities in Zimbabwe.

The 4th Meeting of the Russian-Zimbabwean Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Trade, Scientific and Technical Cooperation scheduled for November this year in Harare is set to promote further the mutually beneficial partnership that will contribute to decreasing the negative impact of the pandemic on the national economies and to accelerating achievement of the Vision 2030.

Happy Independence Day!

FULL TEXT- S.A Statement On Repatriation Of Zimbabweans

By A Correspondent- The Zimbabwean Embassy in South Africa says it is considering the voluntary repatriation of Zimbabweans citizens in the neighbouring country who are finding it difficult to make ends meet during the current lockdown.

In a statement released on April 13, the Embassy reached out to Zimbabwean citizens who are in dire straits and wish to return home. The statement read:

EMBASSY OF THE REPUBLIC OF ZIMBABWE

798 Merton Avenue ARCADIA 0083 PRETORIA Tel: (012) 342 5125 Fax: (012) 342 5126

PRETORIA REQUEST FOR INFORMATION FROM CITIZENS AND PERMANENT RESIDENTS OF ZIMBABWE IN THE REPUBLIC OF SOUTH AFRICA.

The Embassy of the Republic of Zimbabwe in the Republic of South Africa in Pretoria and its Consulates in Cape Town and Johannesburg is reaching out to you members of the Zimbabwean Community in South Africa.

We want to thank you for observing the laws of the host country, more importantly, the regulations pertaining to movement and gatherings during the lockdown period.

We urge you to continue on the same trajectory and stay at home during the remainder of the lockdown period.

It has come to the attention of Embassy and Consulates that some members of our community are facing challenges which may make their continued stay in the country uncomfortable.

The Embassy wishes to advise members of the community that the Government of the Republic of South Africa allows for the voluntary, orderly repatriation of foreign nationals to their countries of origin during the lockdown period.

The Embassy is liaising with Head Office in Harare on the possibility of such an eventuality. Zimbabwe borders remain open to allow for the return of citizens and permanent residents even during the lockdown period.

Citizens and permanent residents who choose to exercise the option of returning to Zimbabwe during the lockdown period are expected to go into compulsory quarantine for a period of 21 days (three weeks).

Coronavirus: Not A Surprise, How The Bible Told Us To Expect Terrible Diseases In The End Time

Masimba Mavaza VAZET

BY DR MASIMBA MAVAZA

The novel coronavirus strain SARS-CoV-2 has never been seen in humans before, fuelling bizarre conspiracies of religious prophecy.

Some believe the coronavirus was foretold by the French mystic Nostradamus.
Others have said the pandemic was predicted in a 1981 novel by Dean Koontz.
But Christian evangelists are now saying the coronavirus is one of many plagues predicted to hit before the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.

Coronavirus: Many people share COVID-19 conspiracies online but the stubborn truth
the New Testament warned of disease pandemics “in the end time. In the book of Matthew chapter 24 from the New Testament, Jesus said: “For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom; and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes in places. All these are the beginnings of sorrows. Perhaps the most vivid forecast on this point is in Revelation, the Bible’s most detailed book of end-time prophecy.Christians believe the Book of Revelation describes how the world will end. It sets a dramatic return of the Son of God Jesus Christ. But his coming will have some signs which are now known as signs of coming. So the whole world is experiencing the signs of his coming but these signs were fully foretold in the book of Mathew.
Perhaps the most vivid forecast on this point is in Revelation. The Book of Revelation was penned by John the Apostle and is a collection of his visions about end times. His visions came straight from God. So the things we see today are really just but a fulfillments of what was already said. If we can see a sign now in the name of Corona it means we need to step off the pedal and look up to heaven because. He who is Coming is Coming. Coronavirus is definitely a problem – but compared to the scale of the pestilence that is coming, it is barely significant.
“God prophecies of tens of millions of people killed by pestilences.
“But do not lose sight of the reason. God is not destroying indiscriminately: He is punishing the world in love and in measure – to help mankind ultimately turn from the paths of destruction towards the way of truth and peace.”
Despite the scientific claims, and theories thrown all over the coronavirus is biblical and supernatural in any all ways.
Whether it was created or not whoever claims right to it is just but a tool to the fulfilment.
SARS-CoV-2 belongs to a family of pathogens that have been responsible for past epidemics.
Between 2002 and 2003, some 8,000 people were infected by the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (SARS-CoV).
A new strain of coronavirus emerged again in 2012, infecting hundreds of people with Middle East Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus (MERS-CoV).
The viruses all attack the respiratory system with flu-like symptoms and pneumonia.
In the case of SARS-CoV-2, the virus attacks most people with mild systems.
Scientists were quick to say vulnerable patients in elderly age groups or people with underlying health problems are at risk of developing critical symptoms. But God showed them a different way. Very fit people died of it. Footballers Juventus club players and many sports persons were infected. So the Scientific proclamations proved to be wrong.
The World Health Organization (WHO) said: “Older people, and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illness. But as I have said the signs of coming are not targeting a class or age groups. So the coronavirus disease is affecting all global communities. Christians and people of other faith all over the world are looking to our faith for answers during these troubling times. The straight answer is Jesus is coming again. As more people fall ill with Covid-19 or go into self-quarantine over the next few days, we expect more studies of the word.
Clearly our world is so enlightened the education we have attained in our world is not an event it is again a fulfillment of prophecy the bible said “Knowlledge will increase “
Jesus Christ will return! And while many claim that we cannot know when He will arrive, the Bible gives us clear signs that will tell us the time is near.
The end of the world fascinates millions.
Sadly, the reality of devastating disasters lies all around us, whether we are aware of it or not. How many of us even heard about last autumn’s terrible flooding across central Africa, which killed scores of people and forced thousands from their homes, many of which were destroyed? Cyclone Idai in Zimbabwe and Earlier, Hurricane Dorian, which caused damage along the United States’ eastern seaboard, was the worst natural disaster in the Bahamas’ recorded history, leaving roughly 70,000 people homeless and hundreds presumed dead. Estimates suggest that Dorian caused $7 billion in property damage in the Bahamas alone.
Elsewhere, fires caused terrible destruction. In the first nine months of 2019, more than 40,000 wildfires across the U.S. burned about 4.4 million acres. California was one of the hardest-hit states.
As of today over a million people have died this Corona is not an accident.
God is using the unseen virus to make us beseech the powers of the unseen God but ever present one.

We are living in humanity’s grand experiment in governing itself without God. Can the 193 United Nations member states ever find the way to world health and come up with a virus. Yes they might but it will not stop the signs from showing.
The bible should make the answer plain!

Even today, biological, chemical, nuclear, and other threats keep our planet on the brink of disaster and destruction losing two million people to an unseen virus is surely beyond nature. It is a sign. Scripture reveals that terrible times are ahead, before Christ’s return. “For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. And there will be famines, pestilences, and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of sorrows” (Matthew 24:7–8).

In the midst of Corona virus China and America are escalating hostilities. The world will see no peace until the Lord comes back. This Corona is the tip of the ice bag.
It is not the end of the world but the beginning of the end.
We’ve seen the prophecy that a great superpower will ascend on the world scene, but notice that there’s another world figure also described as a beast. This symbolic beast has two horns like a lamb.
Jesus Christ is called the Lamb of God. By contrast, this religious imposter will appear Christian while speaking like a dragon. You need to watch for an internationally respected religious figure who will influence a European political and military superpower. You must not let him deceive you, though his miracle-working deceptions will cause billions to follow him and his false religion. Notice: “The coming of the lawless one is according to the working of Satan, with all power, signs, and lying wonders” (2 Thessalonians 2:9). One of the false prophet’s lying wonders will be to call down fire from heaven, as we saw in Revelation 13:13.
These are signs that we are getting closer to home. Yes we are getting closer.

This Corona has United the world but the choice is yours. Whether you are united with the world or with God.
The bible is clear Corona is the sign of the second coming

Let’s seek God and fight Corona.

53 New Coronavirus Cases For Tanzania In One Day, What Next Magafuli?

The COVID-19 has hit Tanzania badly. Between Thursday (16th April) and Friday(17th April), the cases have skyrocketed. Today, an announcement by the Tanzanian Minister of Health, Ummy Mwalimu reported that the new number of affected has moved to 147 with 53 new cases. The country’s old capital, Dar es Salaam has contributed to a specific 38 cases, the Island of Zanzibar 10 cases. The towns of Kagera, Coast, Kilimanjaro, Mwanza, and Lindi have each reported one case.

Of the 147 cases, 131 of the patients are in critical condition. Today one more death was confirmed, making it five for the country. The rates keep rising with most of those affected being a result of local transmissions.

Well, the scare has now hit Tanzania with the country’s President, John announcing, three days of prayer on Thursday. Tanzania’s first case was reported on 16th March, but the growth of cases was slow, making the President overlook the need to pay caution. As at now, the country may go on lockdown as well as take measures adopted by neighbours, Kenya such as debt relief and urgency in tackling the pandemic.

Independence Day Celebrations Inside Coronavirus, Mohadi Calls For Unity

State Media|THE country’s Independence was attained through the perseverance shown by Zimbabweans in fighting the colonial regime and that should inspire the nation now to defeat Covid-19, Vice President Kembo Mohadi said yesterday.

Vice President Mohadi challenged Zimbabweans to take inspiration from the unity of purpose exhibited during the war of liberation to defeat the pandemic.

“Some of you might take it as just Independence and not appreciate what it entails,” VP Mohadi said.

“It was through the resilience of Zimbabweans that we have this Independence and we got it without assistance from Europe and the US. We did it ourselves.

“We managed to dislodge the enemy who had more sophisticated arms than us. Because of the resilience we had, we managed to get the country. Many sacrificed and lost their lives. So I am saying this because we have done it before and we can do it again.” He said the fight against the pandemic was everyone’s to fight irrespective of differences.

“Let’s forge ahead like that because Zimbabwe comes first. Let us forget the political bickering we might have. It’s our war together and we have to fight it together,” he said.

Some of the stakeholders the VP Mohadi met included players from the insurance sector, information and communication technologies and transport. The Vice President implored stakeholders to assist Government in curbing its spread.

“The President saw it fit to come up with an ad-hoc committee to look at what has befallen us. We have realised that as Zimbabweans we are not rich and we therefore think and believe that if it’s allowed to manifest we would not be able to contain it. The first line of defence therefore is prevention and we need to marshal every one of us to come and assist,” VP Mohadi said.

He said Government had met chiefs, religious groups, the business community, professional groups and universities, among others to solicit their support in the fight. Several stakeholders donated towards the fight against the pandemic.

The Hindu Society represented by Vijay Patel handed over 12 fridges, 160 single bed blankets, five tonnes of maize meal, 50×20 litre buckets and another 50×10 litre buckets. The materials will be distributed to Sally Mugabe Hospital in Harare, Wilkins and Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital and St Anne’s Hospital.

Petroleum company Puma donated 5 000 face masks and 5 000 pairs of gloves for use by the police. Jedza Building Company donated a video-conferencing device to President Mnangagwa. Mutare-based transport operator, Esau Mupfumi donated $100 000.

The Zimbabwe Red Cross Society secretary-general Mr Maxwell Phiri offered Government the use of its facilities as treatment and isolation centres including its hospital in Harare. He also donated a PCR machine.

“We have a lot of volunteers across the country and if need be they can be deployed to assist in the fight against Covid 19,” Mr Phiri said. Bitumen World pledged to refurbish the Beitbridge isolation centre that was donated for use by NSSA.

Health Ministry Dismisses Claims That Coronavirus Victim Spread The Virus In Kwekwe

Health authorities in Kwekwe have dismissed as false, reports circulating on social media that the country’s second person to die of Covid-19 had several contacts in the city, who were now in quarantine.

The late Mr Charles Zvandaziva, (50) was formerly employed by the now defunct Africa Chrome Fields (ACF) on the outskirts of Kwekwe city, but had relocated to the capital after the company closed ome time last year.

There have been social media reports claiming that Mr Zvandaziva owned a house in Kwekwe and had been there days before his death a week ago.

Kwekwe District Covid-19 Taskforce co-chairperson Mr Vitalis Kwashira said the social media reports were false.

“Mr Zvandaziva was the country’s number nine patient to test positive to Covid-19 in Harare,” he said. “He unfortunately died of the disease while in admission at Wilkins in Harare last week and there has been some false information that he had contacts in Kwekwe.

“He never visited Kwekwe before he was diagnosed with Covid-19, so we would like to allay fears and assure our stakeholders that they should ignore the false report circulating on social media.”

Mr Kwashira said all the suspected Covid-19 cases in Kwekwe had their specimens sent to Harare and the tests came out negative.

The district taskforce was tightening measures to reduce congestion in Kwekwe central business district (CBD) which included the banning of private vehicles from the city centre.

Those providing essential services and intending to get into the city had to board Zupco buses to and from work.

“We realised that people were continuing to make their way into the CBD for no apparent reasons, so we decided that no private vehicle would be allowed there from now onwards,” said Mr Kwashira.

“The skeletal staff given a waiver to continue working should use service vehicles, Zupco and Public Service Commission buses.

“The task-force also made arrangements that mealie meal be delivered to the high-density areas while farmers’ markets will be opened in residential areas to avoid congestion.”

Mutare Man Arrested For Possessing For Resale 1.5 Tonnes Of Mealie Meal

A MUTARE man was this week fined $4 500 for keeping more than one-and-a-half tonnes of roller-meal at his house in Hobhouse.

Tonderai Chiweshe (35) of Hobhouse 2 fell into the trap of a police undercover operation when he sold a 10kg bag for US$4 to an undercover police officer.

Chiweshe was arrested and appeared before senior Mutare magistrate, Mr Tendai Mahwe, facing charges of contravening 12(2) of the Public Health Act (SI 83 of 2020) (Covid-19 Prevention, containment and treatment) (National lockdown) Chapter 15:17, which criminalises the hoarding of food during the lockdown.

Mr Mahwe convicted Chiweshe and ordered him to pay $4 500 fine, failure of which he will spend four months in jail.

District public prosecutor, Mr Tirivanhu Mutyasira told the court that the offence was committed on April 15.

“On the day in question at around 12pm, police officers received a tip-off to the effect that the accused person was selling subsidised roller-meal at his house,” he said.

“One of the cops quickly reacted to the information and bought a 10kg of Red Seal Roller Meal for US$4. A search was conducted at the premise and police recovered 153x10kg bags of roller-meal.”

Subsidised mealie-meal supplies have remained erratic across the country, with major supermarkets running out of the commodity, thereby forcing most consumers to access it on the black market.

The shortages have also turned some people into “professional queuers” as they hop from one supermarket to the other anticipating deliveries, either for own consumption or for the black market.

The re-introduction of subsidised mealie-meal by Government brought relief to most people as the commodity is pegged at $70, while it is selling for up to $100 on the black market.

But while the Government’s decision is noble, citizens are battling to access the product as it is in short supply.

In light of the ongoing Covid-19 lockdown, Manicaland’s Covid-19 district taskforces have resolved to sell the product in identified outlets in high-density suburbs in order to encourage social distancing through decongesting supermarkets and towns.

ZIMRA To Miss Projected Revenue Target

By A Correspondent- Zimbabwe will miss the ZW$57,8 billion 2020 revenue collection target due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic which is projected to shrink the global economy by 3%, according to the latest forecast from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

The IMF has forecast that Zimbabwe’s economy, already buffeted by severe headwinds, will contract by 7,4% as the effects of the pandemic become more pronounced.

The contagion was first detected in China in December last year before rapidly spreading across the world, claiming more than 140 000 lives and infecting over 2,1 million people.

Ongoing computations of Zimbabwe’s quarterly revenue figures by the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (Zimra) and Treasury reveal that collections will drop, as the distressed economy reels from the impact of Covid-19.

With Zimbabwe nearing the end of a 21-day lockdown that was declared by President Emmerson Mnangagwa earlier this month, Zimbabwe this week missed out on grants availed by the IMF to cushion indebted countries as the pandemic rapidly spreads.

The country has so far recorded three deaths from 23 confirmed cases.

Zimra commissioner-general Faith Mazani this week told the Zimbabwe Independent that preliminary revenue collection data ahead of publication of the entity’s quarterly report this month show that collections will take a knock, as the economy reels from the impact of the pandemic, which has slowed global economic growth.

Mazani said: “We are working on our quarterly revenue report. Our targets are based on GDP figures. By end of this week we will have finalised that together with the ministry of finance. We haven’t yet agreed on figures. But definitely there is going to be a drop (in revenue collections).”

This year’s revenue collection target was predicated on a raft of measures introduced by Treasury under the Transitional Stabilisation Programme, which seeks to rein in runaway inflation and foster currency stability, among other macro-economic objectives.

Atlas Mara, a local financial and markets research institution, last week cautioned that inflation, currently hovering around 600%, would quicken to 1 000% by yearend, as the effects of the pandemic on the economy sink in.

Last year, Zimra collected ZW$23,19 billion in revenue, against an annual target of ZW$18,60 billion.

The surge in revenue was largely driven by inflationary pressures.

During the last quarter of 2019, revenue collection surpassed the target by 24%, standing at ZW$11,7 billion.

The projected dip in revenue comes at a time the Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries has cautioned that 88% of companies are struggling to access the export markets as most countries are on Covid-19 lockdown.

Zimbabwe’s distressed companies, hamstrung by the currency volatility crisis, prolonged power cuts and steeply priced raw materials, are currently grappling to compute a stimulus package required to keep operations afloat.-Independent

Ramaphosa Refuses To Bow To Pressure To Open Up Beer Sales During Coronavirus Lockdown

Cyril Ramaphosa

South Africans who waited with bated breath on Friday for news that President Cyril Ramaphosa would respond to the Gauteng Liquor Forum’s call for shebeens and taverns to be allowed to sell alcohol amid the nationwide lockdown may find themselves disappointed.

As widely expected, the president has told them he would not allow the ban on alcohol sales to be lifted, including in shebeens. He instead directed liquor sellers to seek economic relief through programmes offered by government.

In a seven-page letter from the president’s lawyers, the forum was told the reason alcohol sales could not be considered an “essential service” was because there is a link between alcohol and traumatic injury that state hospitals could not afford to be treating during the Covid-19 crisis. They pointed out that tavern owners were among many businesses affected by the shutdown and they could not expect special treatment.

“In the absence of a lockdown, the worst effects of the spread of Covid-19 are likely to be felt in those very sectors of society that you claim to represent – those who live in the poorest conditions … the most vulnerable in society,” the letter continued.

The Gauteng Liquor Forum (GLF), a non-profit organisation of stakeholders representing about 20,000 micro and small businesses, earlier argued in their own letter that the lockdown extension to 30 April would “most likely” ruin their businesses.

They called on the president to relax alcohol restrictions and allow shebeens to operate between 9am and 6pm on weekdays, and close at 1pm on Sundays and public holidays.

“It is also notable that the entire framework for disaster management is not subject to any parliamentary scrutiny and the risk for abuse of power is manifest,” the forum said.

“The total ban on the selling of alcohol is unreasonable and it has no rational connection to the mischief which is sought to be prevented,” added the letter from the forum.

They gave Ramaphosa until 12pm today to respond or face a court challenge. It is now possible that their threatened Constitutional Court case might now go ahead, though it has doubtful prospects of success.

Ramaphosa’s lawyers have denied that the lockdown “and the regulations and/or laws in terms of which it is imposed, are unconstitutional”.

Zimbawe Lockdown Extension Inevitable

HARARE – Zimbabwe is yet to meet the World Health Organisation (WHO) targets for lifting Covid-19 lockdowns, with the country left with just two days to end its 21-day lockdown, a human rights watch body said.

According to the WHO, Covid-19 transitions have to be at a controllable level, outbreak risks minimised in special settings and importation risks managed. Also, communities should be fully educated about the pandemic and preventive measures in place against Covid-19 infection in essential places that people go to such as workplaces and schools.

But Veritas — a human rights watchdog — noted that since Zimbabwe does not meet any of the set targets, “extending the lockdown seems necessary”.

“The spread of Covid-19 is probably just starting in Zimbabwe,” it said.

But because of the low level of freedom of expression and the rule of law in “authoritarian” regimes, and mistrust in such governments by the masses, government has to explain its decisions to the people.

“But it needs careful thought and plans put in place. It also needs government to fully explain their decisions. Authoritarian governments find it easier to impose their decisions on their people but in democracies, governments need to carry the people with them in their decisions,” Veritas said in a statement.

Early this week President Emmerson Mnangagwa told the public he was in consultation with experts on the ground. He would arrive at a decision to extend or end the lockdown after careful consideration.

Botswana has put in place a six-month lockdown, and SA extended its three-week lockdown by two weeks. Zambia has not put one in place, while Mozambique declared a state of emergency.

African countries took varied measures because of the socio-economic impact of shutting down. Zimbabwe is one of the hardest hit.

“In Zimbabwe, where most people are in the informal economy, the impact of lockdown on their livelihoods and their networks of dependants is very great. Social and economic cushioning is very limited in Zimbabwe, as in other poorer countries,” Veritas said.

This week Zimbabwe experienced a sharp increase in Covid-19 cases, particularly in the second-largest city, Bulawayo, where testing began earlier this week. The city recorded two positive Covid-19 cases in three days, bringing the national total to 23 from 716 tests. There had been one recovery and three deaths.

The latest cases noted in Bulawayo involve people with no history of travel.

One of the cases — called Case 15 — is that of a doctor who had contact with a deceased Covid-19 patient.

Lobbyists say if there is an extension, there is a need to build trust in the public for co-operation.

Malawi High Court Blocks Lockdown

By A Correspondent- The Malawian High Court on Friday blocked the country’s leader, President Peter Mutharika from imposing a three-week lockdown that was scheduled to come in effect from April 18 to May 9.

The Court granted a 7-day injunction that had been sought for by a human rights group, Malawi Human Rights Defenders Coalition (MHRDC).

In a tweet on Friday evening, Idriss Ali Nassah said:

The President of Malawi had declared a 21-day #COVID lockdown from April 18 to May 9.

But a human rights group @HumanHrdc has obtained an injunction at the High Court, which has been granted for 7 days.

So, no lockdown for now.

25% of Formal Jobs And 75% Of Informal Will Be Wiped Out By The Coronavirus Lockdown.

Harare vendors

ZIMBABWE should brace for massive economic dislocation as business leaders project that 25% of formal and 75% of informal jobs in the country will be lost as a result of Covid-19 amid calls by industrialists to ease the lockdown measures to avert the total collapse of an already fragile economy.

The public health emergency has paralysed the global economy and prompted the government to implement a 21-day national lockdown which began on March 30.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa said cabinet would convene next week to decide whether to extend the lockdown or not. Zimbabwe had 23 confirmed cases of Covid-19 infection, with three deaths.

In a report titled Sustainable and Flexible Economic Interventions to Address Covid-19, the Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC), which draws its membership from business entities, said a quarter of the country’s formal and three quarters of informal jobs could be wiped out as a result of the impact of Covid-19.

“Workforce will be made redundant as some businesses will not be able to adapt to the effects of Covid-19,” the ZNCC wrote in its report.

“There is going to be loss of employment, 25% of formal jobs will be lost and 75% of casual/temporary jobs will be lost as businesses lay off workers given the sharp contractions in many sectors.”

The ZNCC warned that tourism will be the hardest hit sector, with nearly 25% of its workers being made redundant while the manufacturing sector is expected to record a significant number of layoffs.

“If the total lockdown is extended without resorting to partial lockdown, some of the leisure and tourism operators might completely collapse,” the ZNCC warned.

It projected that the economy will contract by 9% this year. It also foresees a budget deficit equivalent to 5% of gross domestic product, coupled with increased government spending as a result of the pandemic. The report reveals merchandise exports could plunge to US$3,5 billion in 2020 from US$4,5 billion in 2019.

Disruptions are expected in the supply chain and labour, while uncertainty, contractions across key sectors and a mispriced exchange rate will feed into the turmoil, the ZNCC said.

The business body recommended a partial lockdown which will entail continued monitoring and restricted working hours from 5am to 7pm. It also suggested that movement be allowed only within cities while inter-city travel remain barred. he production of goods by business to meet domestic needs and retention of the workforce.

It also recommended exemption from Pay As You Earn for the month of April and temporary freezing of employment taxes and levies, among other measures.

Former Confederation of Zimbabwe Industries (CZI) president and United Refineries chief executive Busisa Moyo warned this week that industry could grind to a halt if the government continues with the lockdown, given that 82% of companies are likely to fail to pay salaries beyond a month.

Moyo told the Independent that local companies will require a stimulus package to remain operational after capacity utilisation tumbled to zero due to the current lockdown.

As a result, local companies will not only struggle to retain going concern this month but also fail to pay workers.Moyo warned the government against extending the lockdown in the absence of measures to assist the ailing industry which was already reeling under unrelenting economic pressures before Covid-19 erupted.

“Whilst flattening the curve is needed, we need a strategy that shelters and cushions the industry because no company will be left. Eighty-two percent of the companies can only pay one month of the salaries. It means that if we go into month two, companies will fail, so will people continue to go to work?” Moyo said.

He said a bailout package was crucial for industry. “It depends on how long the lockdown is. If the lockdown is extended, we will definitely need a bailout package. Since most companies cannot pay salaries, it means that thereafter you will have problems with thin capitalisation, going concern. Fights are already beginning with auditors on going concern issues. So, these are big challenges. We didn’t have a lot of reserves so we have to watch it. It’s going to be very challenging,” Moyo said.

Meanwhile, CZI president Henry Ruzvidzo told the Independent last week that companies were already counting their losses, which are projected to escalate as the world battles to contain Covid-19.

He said the amount of money for the required stimulus package is difficult to compute, owing to uncertainty surrounding the timelines as to when the disease will be brought under control.

“The national lockdowns which have become a worldwide phenomenon are impacting economies in a big way. Our own circumstances place us in a particularly difficult place and will require the collective effort of all stakeholders to ensure continuity of businesses and resumption of normal economic activity,” Ruzvidzo said.

“The losses are difficult to estimate. Surveys by both large and small businesses are being carried out. The results will, however, not fully represent the full impact on the economy as industry has a large multiplier impact on the economy’s performance.”

The recovery process, he said, would be painful and slow.

“Those on total lockdown will require a stimulus to resume and quickly restore capacity, otherwise the recovery will take a very long time,” Ruzvidzo said.

The country is facing a bleak 2020 with the prospect of recovery remaining grim as companies have already begun to fire workers.

Last week, Air Zimbabwe sent its employees on unpaid leave while other companies, particularly the hospitality sector, fired contract workers.

With Covid-19 cases on the rise, Mnangagwa may extend the lockdown, a move that could further cripple an already struggling economy.

The CZI implored the government to allow firms to re-open, albeit in compliance with strict social distancing measures. The industrial body said companies will not be able to sustain wage bills under the lockdown.

Moyo said with Covid-19 ushering in another global recession, Zimbabwe should improve its industrial capacity.“I think there are a couple of things that are positive from this crisis. For example, we now know that local manufacturing is an absolute must and that guarded or measured globalisation is of importance because when pandemics or global problems strike, you need a local industry in each country. We have been saying this for the past 10 years but it was unpopular because the textbook formula was focussed on comparative advantage but we can see that is theoretical in a global sense,” Moyo said.

He said Zimbabwe should concentrate on producing food and essential services as global pandemics are likely to increase.“We now need to look at what we can produce locally. Even if it is not efficient, for our own sustenance let us be deliberate about what we make. So we are talking about the base-of-pyramid products, your food, pharmaceuticals. In hindsight, we are now seeing all these manufacturers that we allowed to close. So for now it is a big area that we have been advocating for,” Moyo said.

“This is where I think any bailout should focus on. I think we are going to see more global outbreaks, more epidemics and it’s important to have local and regional capacity.”

Harare Informal Traders Get Coronavirus Health Packs

Vegetable traders near the Mbare Musika market, a few days after President Mnangagwa relaxed some lockdown restrictions to allow farmers to sell their produce.

INFORMAL traders operating at Lusaka Fresh Produce Market at Machipisa, in Highfield, Harare yesterday received coronavirus (Covid-19) health packs donated by the Vendors Initiative for Social and Economic  Transformation (Viset) as part of a campaign to curb the spread of coronavirus.

The campaign is set to spread to all other markets as the country intensifies the fight against the pandemic which has claimed thousands of lives.

The health packs included hand sanitisers, gloves, face masks and IEC materials and were distributed to more than 400 selected informal traders and City of Harare Covid-19 response teams who were monitoring operations at the market.

Viset director Samuel Wadzai said in Harare alone the project is expected to benefit more than 5 000 informal traders and will be rolled out to all markets that were temporarily opened by the Harare City Council.

“So tomorrow (today) we will be in Mbare if all things go according to plan. The purpose of this is to contribute as an organisation to the prevention and curbing of the further spread of the deadly virus,” Wadzai told the Daily News.

This comes at a time when Poverty Reduction Forum Trust (PRFT) is calling on the government and local authorities to decentralise informal markets like Mbare-Musika to curb the spread of coronavirus and reduce the risk of exposure to the deadly virus.

By Zimbabwe National Army | This correspondence is in response to your media reports as published in ZimEye and NewsDay online publications over the Easter weekend. Your reporters’ allegations and claims are unfounded and blatant lies. These are typical examples of the fake news that the presidency has been condemning recently.

ZimEye reporter, Farai Dziva’s story alleged that “Police officers and soldiers assaulted residents of the city of Masvingo and stopped them from getting into town to buy mealie-meal.”

NewsDay Weekender reporter, Garikai Mafirakureva, also posted that “Chiredzi residents are now living in fear of army brutality as soldiers patrolling the streets late at night are beating up people and taking some of them to unknown destinations.”

These two stories lack merit on the basis that the alleged victims and/or complainants are not identified. The Army and the Police have always reminded any members of the public to report such incidents. In these instances there are virtually no police reports which casts a lot of doubts about the authenticity of Dziva’s and Mafirakureva’s reports.

https://twitter.com/Jamwanda2/status/1250013699747840000?s=19

The correct position is that the Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) has deployed troops in the two (2) towns of Chiredzi and Masvingo but they are not conducting any foot patrols. They strictly remain vehicle-borne throughout hence they do not have direct contact with members of the public.

It, therefore, boggles the mind as to which ZNA soldiers are alleged to be beating up people and abusing the residents of these two (2) urban areas when there are no foot patrols to assist the Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP).

Furthermore, the picture used in both publications is an old one captured sometime last year when the troops were on one of their routine physical training exercises, that is, road-runs.

Presidential Spokesman George Charamba comment on the video revealed by ZimEye.com

Please be advised to observe professional journalism ethics and try to avoid peddling fake news which by and large exposes your hidden agendas and equally embarrasses your respective organisations.

The ZNA, therefore, dismisses these fake news reports as complete nonsense.

No-one Will Be Evicted For Failing To Pay Rent During Coronavirus Lockdown – S.A. Govt

The South African Government has released a post on their twitter account on Friday morning the 17th of April stating that no person may be evicted from their homes during the South African Lockdown period.

This comes after a number of questions arose from tenants and landlords regarding a number of issues when it comes to lease agreements and failing to pay rent during the lockdown period.

According to the national government, ordinarily, the inability to pay rent falls as a bridge of contract however the Covid-19 pandemic is a natural disaster and conclusions deduced during this period cannot be ordinary.

The Cape Town department’s McIntosh Polela said in a statement this morning that the department would be speaking to its mayor’s to reinforce that no evictions are to be allowed during this period.

The government has taken on this decision to ensure the fight against Covid-19 is not compromised.

“Dear Listening President, Exempt Us From Rentals For Three Months”

Linda Masarira

Dear President E.D. Mnangagwa
& Honourable Cabinet Ministers

Date: 17 April, 2020

Covid 19, Lockdown and Livelihoods

Mr President, l write to you, first and foremost, as a Zimbabwean concerned about what l am experiencing and what other Zimbabweans are experiencing during this lockdown to curb the spread of #COVID19.

I remember in one of your speeches in 2017 you clearly highlighted that you are a listening President.

I represent my fellow financially incapacitated members and other vulnerable and marginalised Zimbabweans. Most Zimbabweans are surviving from hand to mouth and the lockdown has made their lives miserable and unbearable.

Cases of domestic violence have increased during the lockdown and most of the victims are now vulnerable and psychologically affected.

Lives have been locked down and most of us have no reserves to sustain us and if you, Mr President don’t get the severity of the imminent danger most of us are facing, families will collapse, very few will survive the aftershocks of the lockdown.

The very loss of life we are trying to avoid as a nation has found other ways of creeping up to us.

I am therefore appealing to you to assist us with the following:

• Water Bills – waivers for the period of the lockdown or more
• Electricity – rebates during the same period
• SME – Trading Licences waiver for the same period
• Operating Licences – waivers for the year especially in the Tourism and Taxi business in areas like Victoria Falls, Kariba, etc
• School Fees – waivers for the whole Academic year in ALL Government Schools and tertiary institutions
• Zimra Tax freeze – on SMEs and possibly Corporate companies to allow time for recovery
• Small Grants to SMEs, Sole Traders and Informal Operators to allow these to restart since most have little if any financial reserves left.
• For rentals to be suspended for the next 3 months to allow people to recover considering that about 90% of our people are in the informal sector and not generating income.

This, as far as l am concerned, will go a long way in cushioning us and giving us a better restart to our livelihoods after the lockdown.

I have faith that you will understand where l am standing and the plight of people I represent who are now emotionally strained by the hardships they are going through.

My plea is not for a particular special person but for all Zimbabwean citizens that have been affected negatively by this pandemic.

Sanctions have not spared citizens from hardships, and now there is the add-on of the CoronaVirus. It is going to be hard for the Government to prioritise, l am begging you that as you review the lockdown with Honourable Ministers to consider the plight of the citizens who are now living in near destitution and distress.

I Thank You.

Samuel Eto’o has promised to help 100,000 people in his country Cameroon during the coronavirus outbreak.

Peter Muduhwa Pays Tribute To Popular Bosso Fan

HIGHLANDERS and national team defender Peter Muduhwa was among a handful of mourners that paid their last respects to popular Bosso supporter Lubelihle Maphosa, who was buried at Athlone Cemetery in Bulawayo yesterday.

Maphosa (35), succumbed to an asthma attack at the United Bulawayo Hospitals (UBH) last Sunday.

In the absence of Highlanders officials, Muduhwa said his presence was to show that footballers valued their supporters.

“Without supporters we are nothing. They show us love and rally behind us in good and bad times.

I know a number of people that Luba travelled with for away games and I’m here to give them support for their loss,” said Muduhwa.

Bosso fans, through their numerous WhatsApp groups, raised $7 000 and sourced various basic commodities, which they handed over to Maphosa’s family.

Club life members Khetha Marizane, Prince Tshuma, Sidumisile Ntini, Never Phiri, Thulani Dube and Philani Mpofu led an adhoc supporters’ committee to mobilise funds to assist with Maphosa’s burial.

The supporters’ coordinator Philani Mpofu expressed disappointment at the club’s leadership for not sending an official condolence message, even through its various social media platforms or sending a representative to yesterday’s burial.

“As supporters we feel the club has demonstrated that it only cares about us when it wants something from us like asking for goodies to assist the team yet it can’t even at least send a condolence message to the family of a member we just lost.

Luba’s death was topical in almost all the club’s supporters groups that also house some of the executive members, yet the club failed to just send a message.

Is asking for that little recognition like a condolence message too much,” said Mpofu.

“Luba was one of the people who contributed towards the team’s off-season preparations, giving the little she had so that the club could buy food for the players before friendly matches.

We’re not asking for Highlanders to contribute money, but just a simple message goes a long way to show supporters that even in bad times the club cares.”-State media

English Premier Soccer League Clubs To Discuss League Deadline

English Premier League clubs are expected to hold a meeting via a video conference today to discuss how best to complete the 2019/20 season.

The EPL is on hold since the middle of March due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Reports have suggested that an increasing number of clubs want the season concluded by June 30 because of player contracts. They are concerned about the fact that out-of-contract and loan players will be able to walk away despite FIFA recommendations that deals due to expire could be extended to the end date of any domestic campaign.

The League, meanwhile, has not yet find the date for restart, having stated that play will not resume until “it is safe and appropriate to do so”.

Clubs are still in favour of doing everything they can to finish the season, rather than declare it null and void.-Soccer 24

“Soldiers Killed Collin Khosa”: Family Fumes

In a legal letter of demand sent to President Cyril Ramaphosa, the family of Collin Khosa has explained in detail what happened when he died in Alexandra on Good Friday.

Khosa was allegedly killed by defence force (SANDF) soldiers in the township, north of Johannesburg.

“Preliminary medical opinion is that the cause of death is directly related to the assault by the members of the SANDF,” read the letter of demand.

Police spokesperson Brig Mathapelo Peters said a murder case was opened at Alexandra police station.

The Khosa family have demanded financial compensation for loss of support, trauma, shock, psychological assistance and any medical expenses that they may have incurred.

In the letter of demand, lawyer Wikus Steyl of Ian Levitt Attorneys said that according to eyewitnesses, female SANDF members entered Khosa’s yard with sjamboks and accused him of breaking the lockdown regulations after they saw an unattended camping chair outside the home and a “half-full cup of alcohol”.

Steyl said Khosa told the soldiers that even if he had been drinking, that would not be an offence as it was inside his property.

The members allegedly did not take his response “kindly”, seemed agitated and continued to raid the house and confiscated two beers from a fridge, according to the letter.

Khosa was ordered outside and on the way out a member allegedly damaged his car by slamming the gate against it.

They then called for back-up from other SANDF members and Johannesburg metro police officers.

Three members of the SANDF arrived and were briefed on the incident.

Without seeking further details from Khosa, they allegedly “manhandled and assaulted” him.

“In particular, they: poured beer on top of his head and on his body; one member of the SANDF held his hand behind his back, while the other choked him; slammed him against the cement wall; hit him with the butt of the machine gun; kicked, slapped him, punched him on his face and on his stomach and ribs; and slammed him against the steel gate”.

Steyl said videos of the incident recorded by witnesses were deleted by SANDF members.

“The onlookers were also threatened with violence by the SANDF and have been afraid to assist the family investigation of the matter.”

When Khosa was taken to his house he presented “signs such as vomiting, losing speech and progressively lost his ability to walk and had to be rested in bed”.

Emergency services later declared Khosa dead.

“In our submission there is no justification of the actions by SANDF and JMPD,” read the letter, also addressed to defence minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and the JMPD.

Steyl said the assault was a violation Khosa’s rights to life, dignity and freedom.

“Despite the national lockdown every South African enjoys these rights. As per the provisions of section 37 of the constitution, these rights are so fundamental that they may not be derogated from, even during a state of emergency,” the letter read.

In the letter the Khosa family demanded a full account of the incident, names of those  present, what steps had been taken to discipline them and asked the SANDF to publicly condemn the incident.

The family also demanded that the soldiers and police involved be placed on suspension while the investigation was ongoing.

SANDF spokesperson Col Louis Kirstein said on Tuesday that the military would co-operate with the police investigation.

“The SANDF reiterates that its members are expected to act within the confines of the law during this difficult period as they enforce the lockdown regulations and help save lives in support of the police.

“Any action outside the law will not be condoned,” Kirstein said.-Timeslive

FULL TEXT- BOTSWANA STATEMENT ON REPATRIATION OF ZIMBABWEANS

MISINFORMATION ON THE REPATRIATION OF ZIMBABWEAN NATIONALS

Since the Supreme Court judgment was handed down on Tuesday, March 31, 2020, I have been inundated with numerous inquiries from MDC cadres, friends, relatives, colleagues and, of course, members of the Fourth Estate, wanting to know whether I am going to be actively involved in politics and proceed to participate in the forthcoming MDC extraordinary congress to elect a substantive President to replace the late iconic founding President Morgan Richard Tsvangirai.

The main purpose of this press release is to clear the air regarding my position in active politics, more particularly, my continued association with the MDC. On Saturday, January 18, 2020, I resigned from the MDC-T led by Hon.Dr.Thokozani Khupe for purely private and personal reasons.

As a direct consequence of the Supreme Court judgment aforementioned, the MDC-T Congress that was held at Stanley Square, Bulawayo, in April 2018, was declared null and void. Mutatis mutandis, the MDC Congress that was held in Gweru in May 2019 was also declared null and void. In the interim, the MDC is currently led by Hon.Dr.Thokozani Khupe as Acting President pending the holding of an extraordinary congress within the time limit ordered by the Supreme Court.

As a firm believer in the rule of law and constitutionalism, I would like to fully associate myself with and also recognize and hereby unequivocally and unreservedly accept and uphold the decision of the Supreme Court. For the avoidance of doubt, I do hereby accept that an extraordinary congress of the MDC shall be held solely for the purpose of electing a substantive President.

For purely personal and private reasons, I will not be offering my candidature for the office of President although I am absolutely convinced that I have got what it takes to contest for the party’s Presidency if I wanted to. I shall also not continue to occupy the position of National Spokesperson /Secretary for Information & Publicity, again, for purely private and personal reasons.

Going forward, I am not going to be involved in any political party politics. I will remain an independent activist and analyst in addition to, of course, practising law and pursuing other private business interests.

Let me take this opportunity to warmly wish my comrades in the struggle a peaceful and successful extraordinary congress.

Politicians Jostle For Anointed Love Portion Herb?

Farai Dziva|Sources in outspoken Masvingo based clergyman, Isaac Makomichi’ s Calvary Prayer Group have sensationally claimed that Government Ministers are flocking to the preacher’s place to obtain what he describes as the anointed love portion herb.

The sources say Government Ministers and senior politicians are jostling for the love portion such that he is struggling to cope with escalating requests.

“Senior Government officials are coming in numbers to get the anointed love portion herb.

Last night vehicles escorting a senior government official were parked at Prophet Makomichi’ s place.Makomichi is affectionately known as the Lion of Witches by his followers.

There was commotion for nearly two hours as the government official was being served.

Recently a 76-year-old reunited with her husband after being dumped by the same man for close to 56 years.More testimonies are coming. The prophet can be contacted on
0777469342,” a source said.

Makomichi is reportedly distributing the anointed love portions to women for free.

Pressed to disclose the name of the supposed government official who came to his place to get the anointed love portion herb, Makomichi declined to comment on the matter.

Dembare Players Violate Lockdown Restrictions?

Full Text:Botswana Sets Record Straight On Deportation Of Zimbabweans

FULL THREAD: Dont Use The Disabled As Props In Political Theatre, Gandawa Warns ED

It is in bad taste to use people living with disabilities as props in political theatre. The objective of this publicity stunt was to project the president and his wife as caring and benevolent but instead it betrays the policy failings of his government. 1/4

Where is social welfare? When was the last time they checked up on this man and others? What policy has govt put in place to ensure people in similar circumstances are not on the streets? A caring government intervenes through policy and deploys resources. 2/4

As a matter of policy, all government buildings and facilities such as police stations, hospitals, clinics, schools, and universities must be accessible to people living with disabilities while braille and sign language must be standard offerings in govt communication 3/4

Govt is in the process of acquiring Zupco buses. They have not even bothered to require the buses to be wheelchair friendly. The transport system must be accessible to people living with disability and it takes serious policy to achieve this. 4/4

Major Threat To Zim COVID-19 Fight

Zimbabwe’s fight against COVID-19 continues to hit turbulent waters after it emerged that council nurses who form part of the frontline workers against the deadly virus are threatening to down tools over government’s failure to provide them with personal protective equipment (PPE).

Council nurses from Harare and Gweru have given notice to down tools over lack of protective clothing, which is key to their safety when attending to patients infected with the novel virus, which has killed several health workers in most developed economies worldwide.

Harare nurses have written to council health services director Prosper Chonzi advising him that they could not continue with their duties without protective clothing.

“Our members are severely incapacitated in terms of protective equipment, so they also fear for their lives,” part of the letter by the Zimbabwe Urban and Rural Council Nurses Workers’ Union dated April 10 read.

“They have been watching personnel from countries which have the capacity to provide full PPE, so they are just imagining how they are going to escape contracting this deadly virus when they have very minimum or no PPE.”

Harare nurses have downed tools many times before demanding protective clothing to be able to handle COVID-19 patients. Doctors have also been making similar demands.

Government was on Tuesday ordered by the High Court to provide health workers with protective clothing, but the Health ministry accused Treasury of delaying in releasing the money needed to buy the PPE.

The ministry said it required about US$2 million for the needs of medical staff in the fight against the virus.

Gweru City Council nurses also said they lacked PPE to handle the virulent disease.

Douglas Chikobvu, secretary-general of the Zimbabwe Professional Nurses Union, yesterday said nurses could not risk coronavirus infection.

In their demands, the nurses listed space suits (disposable), googles, elbow length gloves, outer coats, gumboots, N95 masks, face shields, disposable head gear and surgical masks.

Chikobvu said the demands were genuine because hundreds of health workers abroad had died in the line of duty after attending to COVID-19 patients without proper protective equipment. “We stand with the Gweru council nurses in their demand for PPE,” he said.

“There is general chorus and outcry countrywide from nurses in city council health centres, government and even well-established private hospitals, sonorously crying in splintered voice for the availability and provision of PPE so that nurses can discharge their duties effectively and efficiently.”

He said because of failure by authorities to avail the PPE, the nurses had “called for the upholding of standards operating procedures in containing the global epidemic”.

Chikobvu said nurses had been resigning from council health centres due to the absence of PPE.

A visit by NewsDay to most of the council-run clinics in Gweru showed there was skeletal staff at Mkoba Polyclinic, Senga, Mkoba 13 and Mtapa.

But Gweru council spokesperson Vimbai Chingwaramusee claimed the nurses were adequately equipped.

“It’s a lie. Our nurses are working and we provided them with protective clothing. We are also procuring more protective clothing to ensure their safety,” she said.

Zimbabwe Military Says Beatings During Lockdown Are Just “Fake News” | FULL TEXT.

Scarce Subsidised Mealie Meal Resurface On Black Market Charged In Forex

A visit by this publication at Jambanja Shopping Centre in Unit L Seke, Chitungwiza saw some vendors charging US$6 per 10kg of subsidised mealie-meal while in Unit J some were charging US$3 per 10 kilogrammes of the same brand.

The development has prompted Chitungwiza residents to appeal to government to deal with individuals selling subsidised mealie-meal in foreign currency. One of the residents only identified as Mai Mairosi pleaded with relevant authorities to protect them from people taking advantage of the national lockdown to milk others.

“Coronavirus has affected the whole world and to us it is a call to unite in fighting the pandemic but our neighbours are taking advantage of the crisis to empty our pockets by charging exorbitant prices on basic goods,” said Mai Mairosi. “Government is making every effort to bring the basic commodities especially mealie-meal at an affordable price but others are busy hoarding it for resale.

“We have selected houses in this neighbourhood where mealie-meal is being sold at US$6 and this is daylight robbery that we are appealing to relevant authorities to arrest such greedy people.

One of the people who was selling the mealie-meal defended himself saying his brother was the one who gave him to sell on his behalf. “It is true that we selling mealie-meal but the owner of the goods is my brother who gave me to sell it on his behalf and he want the money in foreign currency,” he said refusing to identify himself.

In Zengeza at Gazaland Shopping Centre, residents were in a winding queue at a supermarket where they accused shop authorities of withholding the mealie-meal to allow more sales on other commodities to reach their daily targets.

“We have been asked to wait and one of the tellers openly told us that they want to reach their daily targets before selling mealie-meal,” said one of the disgruntled shoppers. “I do not know what target of money are they expected to meet daily which are forcing residents to gather here and disregarding the social distance.

“Varikutiunganidzira kusvitsa mari yavanotemerwa saka Covid-19 ingatadzesei kutibata isutichiswedzwa pano,” she said directing the writer to confront police officers who were controlling the queue.

Although shoppers were being sanitized before entering the supermarket, social distance was not being observed at the long winding queue. Some shoppers ended up buying super refined mealie-meal which was in abundance after giving up to follow the queue.HMetro

ED To Make Televised Independence Address

By A Correspondent- President Emmerson Mnangagwa will make a televised independence address tomorrow since the country is in lockdown due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

This was revealed by the presidential spokesperson George Charamba who said:

The President will make a televised address to the nation on Independence Day in respect to the efforts to contain Covid-19. The address will be broadcast from State House so he will reach Zimbabweans through television and other media platforms.

Zimbabwe celebrates its 40th independence from the British Colonial system tomorrow and people cannot congregate because of the lockdown restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The independence celebrations which were supposed to be held out of Harare for the first time in 40 years were postponed due to COVID-19.

Constantly Review Zim Dollar Value, Zim Lenders Tell Mangudya

Zimbabwean lenders are urging the central bank to introduce more frequent reviews of the embattled southern African country’s fixed-exchange rate and to ease rules on capital buffers to help the industry cope with the fallout from the coronavirus.

The Bankers Association of Zimbabwe wants the central bank to help stabilize foreign-exchange markets through a “periodic” devaluation of the rate to better reflect the country’s economy, according to a letter sent to the central bank and seen by Bloomberg. The Zimbabwe dollar was pegged at 25 to the greenback on March 26, while the black-market rate for the U.S. currency can be as much as double that.

The association, which represents all of the country’s major banks, is also asking the regulator to lower statutory reserve requirements to 2.5% from 5% and release some of their capital, the letter shows. Lenders should also be able to prioritize foreign exchange for clinical laboratories to be able to buy equipment, the industry body said.

Calls to central bank Governor John Mangudya weren’t answered.

Zimbabwe’s economy was struggling with hyperinflation and a 90% unemployment rate even before the coronavirus entered the country. Banks are now concerned that a 21-day shuttering of non-essential businesses on March 30 will cause companies to falter without aid, which will cause unpaid loans to soar.

The association is also recommending that a fund be started for distressed companies that can be accessed through the banks, according to the letter. The role of the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe as the lender of last resort should also be strengthened, the association said.

Covid-19 Induced Economic Meltdown Force 500 Back To Zim – Trickle Before The Flood

By Nomusa Garikai- One of the consequences of the corona virus pandemic is the economic collapse. Many Zimbabweans left the country for economic reasons but with the economic collapse in the host country an ever increasing number of Zimbabwean will find themselves out of work and forced to return back home. Botswana has started to deport some Zimbabweans.

“The government of Zimbabwe should expect to receive 500 deportees from Botswana,” advised Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Botswana Batirai Henry Mukonoweshuro.

“About 230 people have already surrendered themselves to the police and district commissioner in Gaborone. These were expected to be deported as of (Thursday) and more continue to register themselves with the embassy.”

As the economic situation gets worse the trickle of Zimbabweans returning home from Botswana, SA, Europe, etc., etc. will grow into a flood.

Zimbabweans should have worked hard to make sure Zimbabwe addressed the underlying problems behind the country’s economic and political crisis that forced them to leave the country in the first place. The crisis has been there since the 2000 to 2008 era which saw inflation soar to 500 billion per cent and the economy totally collapse and never to recovery, These people are now going back to Zimbabwe with unemployment rate a nauseating 90% and hyperinflation at 1 000% before the corona virus outbreak! Corona virus has dragged the nation even deeper into the nightmare!

These deportees have been the life-line for many who have remained behind, the dependants will not be pleased to see them back home.

Whilst the people, have risked life and limb to elect Morgan Tsvangirai and his MDC friends on the understanding the party will bring about the democratic changes the nation needed to end Zanu PF misrule. The MDC leaders have sold-out.

MDC leaders have failed to deliver even one meaningful reform in 20 years, particularly during the 2008 to 2013 GNU when the country had the golden opportunity to do so. The people not only failed to hold MDC leaders to account for selling out during the GNU but, worse still, have failed to replace the incompetent opposition and so the nation is now stuck with corrupt and incompetent ruling party and opposition party!

After 40 years of misrule, we cannot deny we had many opportunities to end the curse of bad governance in Zimbabwe but wasted them all. Zimbabweans deserve this corrupt, incompetent and tyrannical Zanu PF government complete with its entourage of equally corrupt and incompetent opposition parties, all 130 of them at the July 2018 rigged elections.

Corona virus has already caused serious economic disruption, humanitarian suffering and claimed many, many lives. The virus has affected the rich and poor, developed and developing nations alike. But has hit the poor harder than the rich, the developing nations harder than the developed one. The poor had pre-existing economic and health conditions making them more vulnerable and their situation was made worse by their failure to mobilise the material and human resources to deal with the virus.

The corona virus will hit Zimbabwe very, very hard given the country’s economy has been in total meltdown for decades now and its public health service has long collapsed. Zimbabwe has failed to supply something as basic as clean running water to even key institutions like referral hospitals like Parerenyatwa Hospital much less the urban dwellers!

“Wash your hands regularly with soap and clean running water!” WHO has advised.

At least, Zimbabwe’s urban dwellers had clean running water 40 years ago, not any more!

Zimbabwe’s ruling elite live in palatial mansions like Mugabe’s Blue Roof built at the expense of the nation’s hospitals and clinics that are now in advance state of rot and decay!

Even now with the country facing this existential threat from the corona virus pandemic, the country continues to lose billions of dollars a month from the wholesale looting of diamonds and other resource; money that should be used to help save human suffering and lives. What will it take to final force Mnangagwa to end corruption?

As much as there are many developing countries and donors who would like to help Zimbabwe deal with this pandemic; they are reluctant to do so. These Zanu PF leaders are renowned for not only looting Zimbabwe’s resources but foreign donations too!

There is no doubt that corona virus is presenting Zimbabwe with the most serious economic, social and humanitarian challenge this nation has ever faced. The economic and humanitarian cost will be that much more than expected because of 40 years of bad governance. And we, the people of Zimbabwe, have done nothing to ensure the country end the curse of bad governance.

Corona virus is forcing Zimbabweans to go back home; to pay dearly, in lost treasure and human lives, for having done nothing to end the curse of bad governance these last 40 years and to finally do something to end the curse.

Those who do not learn from the past are doomed to repeat the same mistake over and over again. One only hope we have finally learned the lesson of the folly of doing nothing to end the curse of rigged elections and bad governance.

South Africans Wait For Ramaphosa To Announce New Rules On Alcohol During Lockdown

Cyril Ramaphosa

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to respond today to requests by Gauteng business owners to lift the country’s alcohol ban. But legal and public health experts warn lifting the moratorium on alcohol sales may come at a cost to South Africa’s coronavirus response.

But legal and public health experts say that not only is the moratorium within the ambit of the Act but that it may already have freed up hospital beds and reduced the risk of people spreading the virus.

President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to respond to requests by Gauteng business owners to lift the country’s alcohol ban. But legal and public health experts warn lifting the moratorium on alcohol sales may come at a cost to South Africa’s coronavirus response.

The Gauteng Liquor Forum represents about 20 000 tavern and shebeen owners in the province. In an 11 April letter sent to Ramaphosa , the forum argues the alcohol ban not only falls outside the scope of the Disaster Management Act but has failed to meet its aims, namely stopping the spread of the new coronavirus. Plus, the body’s lawyers argue, the government did not hold public consultations on the moratorium. The group now says it will go to court to lift the ban if it must and instead resume the restricted trading hours in place before Ramaphosa instituted a national lockdown to curb new cases of the virus.

But legal and public health experts say that not only is the moratorium within the ambit of the Act but that it may already have freed up hospital beds and reduced the risk of people spreading the virus.

The board has written to Ramaphosa threatening legal action if he had not responded to their concerns by Tuesday, April 14. The board, which claims to represent 20 000 shebeens and taverns in Gauteng said the economic impact of the lockdown had been hard to bear for its members. It requested that Ramaposa consider the unbanning of the sale of alcohol during the now extended lockdown period, which is expected to end on April 30.

There has been an outcry from political parties particularly the EFF which has also written to Ramaphosa urging him not to adhere to the liquor board’s requests. It said the unbanning of alcohol sales was not in the public interest

Buyanga Given 24 Hour Ultimatum To Bring Back “Kidnapped” Baby

Frank Buyanga

By A Correspondent| The businessman who for years is on a “top wanted” British Police warrant of arrest list, Tawanda Buyanga, has been slapped with a warrant of arrest by the High Court Of Zimbabwe.

Buyanga who after fleeing UK altered his name to Frank Buyanga Sadiqi, has been served, barely 3 weeks after he violently kidnapped the child he has with his ex girlfriend, Chantelle, last month. The incident was captured on CCTV at Spar, Waterfalls, Harare.

His violent operation which left the child’s grandmother with bloody bruises, was the third abduction in a roll cited on his case.

The incident was exclusively revealed by ZimEye.com, see CCTV footage below, and he was seen coming out of his white Ford Ranger and pulling the child out of the mother’s car at Spar Waterfalls, Harare.

Passing judgement on Thursday, Justice Manzunzu said the verdict which stipulates he must return the 5 year old son to his mother, is itself a warrant of arrest if not heeded.

Below is the judgement.

On April 10, Rutendo Mukotsanjera died at the age of 45 having contracted Covid-19.

She was a prominent public health official and a human rights activist, having previously worked for the Infrastructure Bank in Zimbabwe.

Rutendo leaves behind her daughter Chiedza, who goes by the name Chichi.

The 12-year-old is currently being looked after by members of the Renew Church in Uttoxeter, Staffordshire, where the mum was a loyal member.

Church officials have contacted Chichi’s family in Zimbabwe to discuss where the young girl should go next.

Pastor Matthew Murray said: “Chichi was inseparable from her mum and is understandably very upset after being told the news late last night.

“Chichi is currently being cared for and is in the safe hands of a member of our church nearby as we begin the logistics of what life will look like for Chichi in the next few weeks and months.

“We still don’t know where Chichi will live and we are talking to her family in Zimbabwe to discuss the best possible plan.

“Whatever happens, we will support her. She is one of our own.”

“This fund will help with any funeral and legal costs and ALL surplus will be given to aiding Chichi’s future.”

Rutendo’s cousin Cindy Munyavi, a musician, tweeted: “Thank you for your prayers. Unfortunately my cousin Rutendo Mukotsanjera didn’t make it.

“She was an amazing person. Covid-19 is such a harsh reality and it takes losing a loved one for one to realise what a monster it is.

“Please stay at home for your sake and others.”

So far more than £30,000 has been raised for Chichi and to sort out her late mother’s fuenral.

There have been 1,008 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Staffordshire.

State Security Agents Intensify Patrols In Byo As COVID-19 Cases Rise

By A Correspondent- State security agents yesterday laid siege on Bulawayo central business district (CBD), turning away thousands of commuters and motorists with “no clear-cut business in town” as authorities battled to contain the spread of coronavirus, which by Wednesday had turned the city into a hotspot with 10 cases and one death.

Soldiers and police officers deployed to enforce the lockdown order reportedly impounded 300 vehicles and beat up people, including security guards manning their workstations, forcing them to go back home.

On Wednesday, Bulawayo recorded five new cases — all due to local transmission — bringing the tally in the second largest city to 10 out of the country’s 23 reported cases that include three deaths.

The Health ministry immediately declared the city as the new COVID-19 hotspot in Zimbabwe.

The provincial breakdown so far has Bulawayo leading with 10 cases, followed by Harare with eight, Mashonaland East with four and Matabeleland North with one.

A security guard told NewsDay that they were beaten up while driving to Matshobane to attend to an alarm alert.

“They stopped us and ordered us out of the car, forced us to lie on our stomachs and immediately began beating us with sticks,” the guard said.

“They beat us all over the body and ordered us to go home. We drove to work and called an ambulance which ferried me to hospital for medical treatment.”

Another security guard protecting a residential flat in the CBD added: “They said we are under lockdown and no one was supposed to be outside and ordered me to go home. I told them I was at work and when I tried to show them my exemption letter, they tore it up and started beating me up.”

COVID-19 risk: Nurses threaten strike
Residents in Nketa high-density suburb said the soldiers barred Zupco buses from ferrying people into town despite producing exemption letters.

“The drivers told us that soldiers were beating up everyone who tried to get into town, so they were not going to take risks,” one resident said.

Another added: “A Zupco driver told us that he would not carry passengers because he witnessed people being beaten by the soldiers. He said they beat up everyone regardless of having exemption papers. In other instances, the soldiers are forcing people to chew the exemption letters.”

This was despite a High Court order issued on Tuesday ordering soldiers, the police and other law enforcement agents to stop brutalising citizens while enforcing the lockdown order.

Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube yesterday said he was unaware of the alleged brutality.

Zimbabwe National Army spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Alphios Makotore referred all questions to national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi, who said the heavy deployments were triggered by the huge vehicular and human traffic in the city centre.

“If there are any incidents, we encourage that they (victims) come forward and make a report to allow for investigations … The deployment of officers is headed by inspectors who are constantly in touch with relevant commanders to seek guidance and to resolve any challenges they might face on the ground. And so the cars which were turned back at roadblocks were of those people who had no exemptions, of people who had no business to be in town,” Nyathi said.

“And even in Zupco buses, people were being screened and those without exemptions were being turned back. For example, yesterday (Wednesday) we had a challenge in Bulawayo of having too many cars in the CBD, people moving around with no clear business. We received complaints to that effect.”

Information permanent secretary Ndavaningi Mangwana said he was in a meeting, while Defence minister Oppah Muchunguri and her deputy Victor Matemadanda were unreachable for comment.

Meanwhile, there was a COVID-19 scare at Hillside Police Station in Bulawayo after a 52-year-old confirmed case, an employee at Mater Dei Hospital, who attended to the late 79-year-old Ian Hyslop while admitted at the health institution, visited the police station in violation of a quarantine order.

The COVID-19 patient intended to resolve an issue with her tenant, leading to one police officer who attended to her falling ill exhibiting flu-like symptoms.

The 52-year-old, a nurse aide at the health institution recorded as case 16, who had tested positive, visited the police station after being advised by Bulawayo City Council health officials to self-isolate.

This was revealed in a leaked police memo written on Wednesday addressed to the Police District Intelligence Officer suburban.

According to the letter, the patient (named and address supplied) was tested after getting into contact with Hyslop several times at Mater Dei Hospital before he died on April 4 and was posthumously declared COVID-19 positive.

“The patient was told to self-isolate at home on 08/04/20, but visited ZRP Hillside Police Station on the same day with the intention to resolve an issue with her tenant at the Community Relations Officer (CRLO)’s office,” the memo read.

According to the memo, four police officers got in contact with her, although maintaining social distancing.

She proceeded to the charge office, where she also interacted with four police officers.

But one of the officers (name given) reported to ZRP Bulawayo Camp Hospital complaining of flu and was given three days off and is supposed to report for duty today.

Meanwhile, the rise in infections has left residents on the edge.

Posting on his Facebook wall Bulawayo mayor Solomon Mguni said:

“We now top the list. Bulawayo now the epicentre of COVID-19. We are in trouble. We call upon those who have been crowd-funding for Bulawayo in and out of Zimbabwe to remit the proceeds so that we up our tracing and testing of our people. Government and the city can no longer go it alone.”

Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association chairperson Ambrose Sibindi said the figures recorded in Bulawayo were a wake-up call for residents to adhere to the lockdown directive.

“This figure is alarming and it calls for compliance in staying at home and avoiding roaming the streets. As leaders, we have to intensify information dissemination to residents of Bulawayo through electronic means such as social media so that residents understand the importance of not exposing themselves,” Sibindi said.

Bulawayo Vendors and Traders Association director Michael Ndiweni said it was very worrying that the cases were increasing rapidly in Bulawayo.

“This means that people are not observing social distance and, thus, sadly, the increase. We had, however, predicted this because of the queues that we have been seeing in shops,” he said.

Reports Of Zim Case Number 25 In Masvingo

Zaka – A Zaka woman who was rushed to Musiso Mission Hospital after a miscarriage yesterday, has tested positive to COVID -19 virus following tests done on Rapid Tests Kits (RBT), Masvingo Mirror reports.

The new coronavirus: What we do – and don’t – know

Rapid Tests Kits results are not reliable and they are not depended upon at least for now.
The RBT results will only be confirmed after the second stage tests done on PCR or the Gold Standard Tests which is more reliable (70%) and only carried out in Harare.

The woman will only be conclusively identified as positive after the Harare tests.
The Mirror has it from impeccable sources that samples from the Zaka patient were sent to Harare yesterday and results are likely to be released at 9 pm today or early morning tomorrow.

If found positive, the woman will be the first COVID-19 case reported in Masvingo Province.

Rapid test kits have been distributed to many hospitals in the country over the last few days and they are now under use mainly for screening.

The RBT checks to see if a body is reacting to the presence of a virus. Its results are not accurate because the test may detect the body’s response to other viruses other than COVID-19.

However, the Gold Standard Test hunts for the actual COVID – 19 virus in the sample which makes it more reliable at 70%.
Efforts to get a comment from Masvingo Provincial Medical Director, Dr Amadeus Shamu were futile.

Mnangagwa Urged To Extend Lockdown Until August

Mpilo Central Hospital clinical director Solwayo Ngwenya

A SENIOR medical officer at the Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo has warned that the coming winter season will see cases of the coronavirus shooting up in Zimbabwe, adding that the best option was to lift the lockdown for a week to allow people to stock up their food reserves, then extend the lockdown to August.

Speaking to NewsDay yesterday, Mpilo Central Hospital clinical director Solwayo Ngwenya said: “With the winter season of flu upon us, we face a quagmire.

“With the respite coming in August, options include continuing with the lockdown until August, but great pain and suffering to the population or partially lifting it with certain restrictions remaining in place but risk high damage.”

Ngwenya added that households were suffering from food shortages, and raised concern over the rising infections in the city which he blamed on failure to observe social distancing.

“People are partially complaining, adding that they still gather in crowded places jostling for mealie-meal and other basic commodities,” he said.

Ngwenya also said there would be a small risk of infections going up if the lockdown is lifted for a week to allow people to restock, but added that this would alleviate people’s suffering.

The medical expert warned that a complete removal of the lockdown would result in high death rates.

Prevent the spread of coronavirus
Government is yet to announce the way forward on the lockdown, which ends on Sunday night.

Zim Coronavirus Case 15 Angry At State Media For Sensational Reporting On Her And Lying That She Is Gallivanting The City Spreading The Killer Virus

Paul Nyathi|State run Bulawayo based Chronicle Newspaper On Thursday, reported that a physiotherapist from the United Bulawayo Hospitals who tested positive for the coronavirus and tagged as Zimbabwe’s case number 15 had put of lives of Bulawayo residents at risk after leaving her Hillside home to go shopping.

The 34-year-old, known as ‘Case 15’, “violated self-isolation measures by roaming around the city, exposing residents to the deadly pandemic”, the newspaper wrote.

In an open letter addressed to ‘Zimbabwe’, Case 15, has expressed her anger at the State Media denying that she had left her home and placed anyone at risk.

Here is her letter in full:

Dear Zimbabwe,

I am Case Number 15 of Covid-19in Zimbabwe or at least that is what I was told when the Rapid Response Team visited my home to inform me that I had tested positive for Covid-19. I choose to remain anonymous to protect my loved ones and what I hope remains of my career should I survive this virus.

As I struggle to come to terms with my infection, I find myself battling a media outrage following the article by The Chronicle titled “Beware of this patient! Covid-19 positive woman gallivanting around town” published on April 16, 2020. This article describes a 34-year-old female who initially lied that she was a nurse but is in fact a physiotherapist at a local hospital who has violated self-quarantine measures and is roaming around the city and exposing residence.

I am not sure whether I am a victim of tasteless journalism or there is indeed another Case 15 who is gallivanting the streets of Bulawayo exposing innocent lives to this dreaded virus.

My story is as follows.

I am an essential worker, a physiotherapist and I am proud of my job. On Sunday, April 12, 2020, I went to work with a colleague of mine to perform a handover takeover as I was due to start my shift the following day. We arrived at the entrance of my workplace where we had to pass through the routine screening station before being allowed entry into the hospital. When they checked my temperature, they said it was elevated and I jokingly requested that they verify whether their machine was well calibrated as I was asymptomatic. I asked them to recheck my temperature which they did several times before calling in the Rapid Response Team.

I was asked to sit in the isolation tent where they took down my details and travel history. I confirmed that I had not travelled outside the country (or even the city), neither had I been in direct contact with a confirmed case of Covid-19 nor had I been in direct contact with someone who had recently travelled (although I did highlight that I lived in the same gated community as a someone who had recently returned from the UK but had not been in direct contact with him).

After a few hours, the Rapid Response Team eventually came through and collected a sample for testing. Before they left, I enquired on when to expect my results and how they would be delivered for which they responded that I should expect a call after a maximum of 48 Hours from the Rapid Response Team. I was told to self-isolate until my results came out. I went back home and complied with self-isolation, optimistic that the results were negative as I had no reason to assume otherwise.

On Monday, April 14, 2020, just before midnight, I realised that something was wrong after I got a number of messages from colleagues who were asking if I was okay. I checked my inbox and came across the daily update from the Ministry of Health and Child Care and immediately realised that Case 15 was referring to me as had a number of my colleagues. I resolved to await official communication from the Rapid Response Team who only came through to my residence on Tuesday, April 15, at 2.30PM.

Unlike the information circulating on social media and in The Chronicle, they found me at my place of residence. I expressed my displeasure at getting my results via social media for which they apologised noting that their lab in Bulawayo had sent the results to Harare before informing the Rapid Response Team. I found that to be dysfunctional and unethical, but I focussed on the way forward. I was told to self-isolate as my symptoms were mild and a doctor would get in touch with me to assist with my case.

I wish to state that as a health worker, I appreciate more than the average person the importance of self-isolation. We spend the greater part of our lives trying to preserve life as such I would not knowingly endanger innocent lives. As such I was shocked when in the wee hours of the morning on Thursday, April 16, 2020, I received a link to the article by The Chronicle accusing Case 15 of recklessly endangering the lives of residents by defying self-isolation. Social media has since been awash with the news which begs me to ask whether there is another Case 15 or is this just a case of unethical journalism.

We are all at risk of contracting the Covid-19 virus and more so health workers who despite the risk continue to offer their services to the ailing. All over the world, we witness standing ovations for health workers who stand in the line of fire against this virus but in Zimbabwe we get accused of endangering lives by gallivanting the streets.

Now, instead of focusing on my health, I am fighting tooth and nail to rectify the false allegations against me so that if and when I do heal, I am able to continue to practice as a health professional without the dark cloud that such allegations present to my career and livelihood.

Yours faithfully,

Covid-19 Case 15

Harare Family Opens Up On “Suspected COVID-19 Corpse” Horror

By A Correspondent- A Harare family has opened up over how the remains of their brother-in-law were allegedly wheeled out and made to ‘sleep’ outside after he died at a private hospital two weeks into the lockdown, but not from COVID-19.

The ordeal took place between Sunday and Monday this week Ordered by a lady boss, staff at the hospital allegedly covered the late Paul’s body in a blanket and red bin bags before pushing his wheelchair outside, near the car park area, where the body spent the night after suspecting him of being a COVID-19 patient.

Speaking about the horrible experience, Paul’s brother-in-law Tapiwa, expressed shock at the hospital’s lack of preparedness for COVID-19 eventualities, over two weeks after the kick down period began.

He was also appalled by the staff’s fear of the woman, only identified as Anna. Paul, a 77-year-old white man, died barely 30 minutes after arrival at the private hospital and within 10 minutes of being attended to.

He had been in the country since February 24, when he arrived from the UK and had been quarantined for more than five weeks when he was taken to the hospital.

The family was quite sure what he had was just pneumonia. “I called (private hospital) and told them I have someone with hydrostatic pneumonia — because he has been diagnosed that day by his doctor.

The condition is caused by being in one position for too long. They said they could treat such a patient, but needed USD 200 for protective clothing.

‘We took him there quite sure he didn’t have COVID-19 because we had done everything to protect him as he had other conditions.

My whole family has been isolated since March, and we were quite sure. “So we got there and we were all sprayed down, paid the USD200 and that was around 7:3opm.

We waited while they were dressing for about 20 minutes. They then came and took him to the resuscitation area, but he died within 10 minutes before he had been admitted or anything.

“There was a very nice nurse who we then asked what the next procedures were. She advised that we call a funeral parlor and also Borrowdale Police,” said Tapiwa. They then went to Borrowdale Police, where they were to meet people from a funeral parlor, leaving the body still in the wheelchair.

That, according to Tapiwa, is when the horror show started. ‘We asked for the police to come, but they said there is a procedure and professionally helped us to contact the COVID-19 people.

They were very responsive, but could only recommend talking to City health personnel who I think said somebody would come.

I’m not sure because I did not make that call. “As all these procedures were happening, I decided to go back to (private hospital) and to my surprise, Paul was still sitting in his wheelchair. I asked them ‘can you not lay him down so rigor mortis doesn’t set in.

Because in a seated position it may eventually cause problems — which it did. ‘When he was finally put in a coffin, we couldn’t close it cause of rigor mortis and his head stuck out.

“I didn’t make a lot of it until this receptionist came, and she was in so much fear, almost in tears. She said the body had to go.

I asked to see the doctor and she said the body had to go. I also noticed other doctors leaving. I tried to explain that we also wanted the body removed and we were waiting to patiently follow procedures.” Tapiwa said he went back to the police station to see if there was progress, and that is when Anna called.

“She didn’t even introduce herself; she just said what is happening with the body. It has to go. I told her I have just told your people the challenge that we are facing and she said give me the police. I told her to call the police herself if she wanted to speak to them, but she decided to come in person.

“Ask the police how she was when she came. Ask Officer Mabhena. She was basically threatening them saying you are causing problems that you will not be able to handle.

The police were dear that they were waiting to hear the way forward on how to proceed.

“I asked her why the police were educating her on the COVID-19 procedures when she is the health expert? I asked why she was ignorant of the procedures and she started saying you don’t call me ignorant.

She called the COVID-19 number, 2019, and was told that they were just a call center. So she left.

My sister (wife to the deceased) was with the body. I left the police station and dashed home to get some warm clothes, and that is when my sister called saying she had been kicked out into the car park area, with Paul’s body covered in disposable bags; one on the head and another on his feet.

Funny thing is they were also forbidding her from going home. So this is midnight and she has a little sleeveless summer dress out in the cold.

When I got there I did not realize Paul’s remains had been wheeled out. But when my sister was getting into the car that receptionist and later the nurse, who had attended to Paul, ran to us in tears begging us not to leave as they would be fired.

“The nurse actually said she had been told she is fired and wailed begging me not to leave. I told her my sister is leaving, but I’m sleeping there.”

Tapiwa said he slept in the car because he could not leave the body in a wheelchair. He thought the body was still inside the premises and he couldn’t leave it like that Little did he know that Paul’s remains had been wheeled outside.

“Meanwhile, the Anna lady was shouting saying don’t leave. She didn’t want us in the hospital, and she didn’t want us to leave as well.”

The next morning the family then bought PPE for police, and the City of Harare officials came well dressed and sprayed. That is when I realized Paul had slept outside. He was just by the verandah area,” said Tapiwa.

Why would you put a body outside? Even if he had COVID, which he did not, why? What is so frustrating and annoying is that they put him there where anyone could access, him covered by a blanket and bin bags!

This hospital is out of control! Even when City of Harare officials came (very professional by the way), they assumed he had died outside and only sprayed around the area. No one told them he had been inside from 8 pm till midnight and the inside was not sprayed.

“The other thing I observed throughout the ordeal was that the staff and those involved in the entire process were so scared.

It showed they had zero training, zero know-how on how to handle a suspected COVID-19 case.

The hospital staff had no protocol to employ, no reassurance on how to handle it. “While efforts are being made to fight coronavirus, there clearly is a need for people within the entire system to get proper training. If this is not addressed there will be a disaster.

“There was suspicion of COVID-19 with our in-law, but in the end we were not even tested.

As a family we did not suspect it was COVID-19, but once the system suspected it was, then the matter was now beyond our control.

“The system was now in charge and as such, I felt they had to be as thorough as possible and not let us go without any tests. I seriously hope this is addressed as a matter of urgency.”-

“We Are The World,” Classic 1985 Song Comes Back To Life As Coronavirus Ravages The World – Watch Classic Video Of The Song

Paul Nyathi|”We Are The World,” a song written and recorded in 1985 to help raise money to benefit an African famine has made a smashing comeback 35 years later in the wake of COVID-19, which has become known as the coronavirus that has become a worldwide pandemic.

The lyrics of “We are the World” seem to ring true in early 2020 just like they did when the supergroup USA for Africa first recorded the song to raise money for a famine in Ethiopia.

The song was remade in 2010—the 25th anniversary of the song—to benefit Haiti earthquake victims. Lionel Richie, who was one of the original song writers along with Michael Jackson, has spoken stated he was open to doing another version during the coronavirus times.

First, here’s what the original song is about. It’s called “We are the World,” because, as the lyrics say, “we are the children, we are the ones who make a brighter day, so let’s start living.”

“There’s a choice we’re making,
We’re saving our own lives,
It’s true we’ll make a better day, just you and me,” the lyrics continue.

USA for Africa was comprised of dozens of popular artists and other pop icons and actors in the mid-1980s, from Stevie Wonder to Willie Nelson, Bruce Springsteen to Diana Ross, Cyndi Lauper to Huey Lewis and, well, so many famous artists like Stevie Wonder, Paul Simon, James Ingram, Kenny Rogers, Ray Charles, Dionne Warwick, Bob Dylan, Tina Turner, here’s the original video from the group.

ZNA Soldier On Coronavirus Duty Shoots Himself Dead

File picture of members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces on duty to control citizens

By A Correspondent|A terrified Zimbabwe National Army soldier based at 1.2 Infantry Battalion in Hwange shot himself dead after discovering that his colleagues may have stolen some of his bullets.

The soldier who was deployed for Coronavirus duties in the coal mining town with live rounds is said to have committed suicide by shooting himself with a service gun after discovering he had lost 10 rounds of ammunition.

Nicodimus Ndlovu, originally from Plumtree in Matabeleland South, is said to have sneaked out of a police base where he and others were camped for a Covid-19 operation and shot himself through the mouth last week Wednesday.

Colleagues found his lifeless body after searching for him for hours when he had disappeared from the base after finishing duty at 6am.

A report made to the police stated that Ndlovu was deployed on Wednesday evening and upon completing his shift, he discovered he had lost 10 rounds of ammunition for his gun magazine.

“Nicodimus Ndlovu, a ZNA member based at 1.2 Infantry Battalion in Hwange went for a Covid-19 operation with other army members and police on April at 6pm.

“He finished duty in the morning and discovered that he had lost 10 rounds of ammunition from his AK47 rifle magazine,” read part of the police report.

Ndlovu is further said to have informed his colleagues about the lost ammunition.

He later sneaked out of the base when his colleagues took him to task over how he lost the rounds.

Ndlovu’s body was later found in the bush with a gun wound in his mouth.

Police took his body to Hwange Colliery mortuary before transferring it Sunday to United Bulawayo Hospitals for post-mortem, after which he was driven to his rural home for burial.

Some cases of illegal hunting where poachers use rifles have been linked to some serving and retired members of the security forces, among them rangers, who abuse their service guns to commit crimes.

Some of the cases have appeared in court with serving members among those accused in the cases.

ZINASU Blasts Govt’s E- Learning Program, Says It’s Discriminatory

The Zimbabwe National Students Union (ZINASU) is against plans by most institutions of higher learning to roll out e-learning programmes during the 21-day lockdown.

In a statement, the student representatives’ body said the move is discriminatory as some students have no access to internet facilities.

The statement read in part:

It is a very noble idea indeed, however, the vast majority of students have no access to reliable electricity and network connections considering that only 41% of Zimbabwe has access to electricity as stated by the national electricity suppliers (ZETDC) and an even smaller share has access to mobile networks.

ZINASU also cited the high cost of data as another challenge that will make it difficult for some students to adapt to the e-learning model.

To those with access to both, electricity and mobile networks, the prices of data are way beyond the reach of many, considering that one webinar costs around $100 which is a good fraction of the earnings of a civil servant.-newsday

After Missing Coronavirus Attack, ‘Apostle’ Chiwenga Says, “I’m The Only Voice God In Zimbabwe, Govt Must Consult Me…”

By Religion Reporter| Where are the two coffins? What happened to the 90 days of back November 2018 ? And where is Joab, where is Adonijah? – After failing to predict the Corronavirus and other plagues, the preacher who once claimed ZANU PF leader Emmerson Mnangagwa did not send soldiers to shoot people on the 1st of August 2018 (saying that God told him so, contradicting several LIVE video broadcasts of Mnangagwa literally doing it), Talent Chiwenga has said he is the only voice of God in the country.

Meanwhile, the people of Kuwadzana, Harare were the worst brutalised by soldiers in August 2018 when Emmerson Mnangagwa deployed the army to kill many while changing election results, and on the 4th August local clinics told ZimEye.com of how military trucks would arrive at night and officers begin assaulting residents. South Africa has now 2607 confirmed infections, 48 deaths and 903 recovered.

” There is sufficient evidence that the lockdown is working” said President Ramaphosa.

The number has remained more or less constant.

Minister Nkosazana Dlamini – Zuma has announced on Thursday 16 April that lockdown will be lifted gradually and that restrictions will remain in place even once the lockdown is lifted.

” There is always a rainbow after the rain, after a storm there is calm”.

” Because we are going to be opening the lockdown in an orderly matter, we will be naming the areas which will opened from the lockdown” said Dlamini – Zuma.

“The lockdown can not be stopped abruptly”.

It is going to be one of the biggest challenges for governments, finding that golden midway between the Pandemic and trying to stabilize the economy.

It will require a lot of wisdom and exceptional leadership.

Some new changes:

1. The transportation of essential goods are permitted from warehousing sites to essential services providers with the exception of the transport of liquor.

2. Retail call centres are now considered part of essential services because of work they do around short – term insurance and store accounts.

Zim Coronavirus Recovered Patient Wants To Turn Into A Coronavirus Activist To Raise Awareness

Mr Soul Sakudya

State Media|Zimbabwe’s first Covid-19 recovered patient is willing to work with Government and other stakeholders in raising awareness, after going through a patch of stigma and discrimination on his road to recovery.

In an interview yesterday, Mr Soul Sakudya (52), who was the third person to test positive after travelling from Dubai on March 24, described his experience as traumatic.

His wife and two children also tested positive, while his other five children and a helper tested negative.

“I thank God for the recovery, it has not been an easy journey,” he said.

“Imagine how traumatising it was even for those who were negative as we shared the same toilet and bathroom.”

Mr Sakudya said although they tried to adhere to basic hygiene practices, which included disinfecting the bathrooms, no one would choose to live under such circumstances, given a choice.

He said they avoided using the same bath soap and close contact with each other, while those who were negative were the ones who would cook for everyone and eat first.

Mr Sakudya said his two boys who later tested positive shared one room, while his wife tested positive a few days after his diagnosis.

He said apart from the medication they were getting to manage their condition, they also used topical ointments to ease symptoms.

“The stigma was real,” said Mr Sakudya. “People were now avoiding passing by my gate. I know how painful it is to have Covid-19 and not to mention the trauma associated with it.”

Mr Sakudya, whose latest Covid-19 negative status was confirmed on Tuesday evening through the Ministry of Health and Child Care daily update, said his other family members were also showing signs of recovery and were awaiting results to show their status.

The World Health Organisation recommends two tests to be run before one is confirmed to have fully recovered and Mr Sakudya has since tested negative twice.

Zimbabwean Working As A Maid In South Africa Donates Her Salary To Feed Lockdown Distressed Fellow Zimbabweans

Judy Murambinda has given nearly half her monthly salary to other Zimbabweans in need.

Correspondent|A domestic worker in Johannesburg has donated R3 000 of her R7 500-a-month salary to families in distress because of the COVID-19 lockdown.

Zimbabwean national Judy Murambinda used the money to assist other Zimbabweans in trouble. She said immigrants should help each other when living away from home.

Murambinda, who came to South Africa in 2009, was touched by desperate calls for assistance from fellow Zimbabweans who posted messages on social media platform Facebook asking for donations of food and other basic necessities.

She told Groundup that she decided to use R3 000 of her salary to buy electricity and food for gardeners, domestic workers and street hawkers who she said were bearing the brunt of COVID-19 lockdown. Many said their employers were not paying them during the lockdown.

She paid amounts of up to R200 using an e-wallet system.

“I normally donate my monthly tithe to the church but this month I couldn’t do that due to the lockdown. I ended up spending more money than I pay to my church after I received numerous requests from desperate people.”

Beneficiary Nicholas Tapfumaneyi wrote, “Hello people I got assistance through this post.Thanks.”

Nqobile Nepare said,”Thank you Judy, I got help from your post. God bless you.”

Thousands of immigrants are battling to pay for food and rent as they can not go out to work due to the lockdown and they cannot get food parcels which the Department of Social Development only offers to holders of a valid South African identity document.

Emelda Mikayla of Pretoria wrote: “I have run out of cash and food to feed my six-year-old baby. I haven’t eaten for two days and my landlord is kicking me out for failing to pay rent in full. I paid R1 500 and still owe them money. Please assist, I am under stress.”

Empress Mimi Mimzoe from Witbank wrote: “I am in need of any amount for rent. I lost my job recently.”

Murambinda has compiled a database of other people in need of assistance and promised to help if she finds sponsors.

Updated Figures Confirm 11000 Americans Killed By Coronavirus Between Tuesday And Thursday

American flag

Paul Nyathi|COVID-19, the respiratory disease caused by the novel coronavirus, killed about 11,000 people in the United States between Tuesday and Thursday, according statistics website Worldometers.

There were almost 6200 deaths recorded on Tuesday, more than 2600 others on Wednesday and close to 2200 fatalities on Thursday, according to the revised data.

New York City on Tuesday reported 3,778 additional deaths that had occurred since March 11 and had previously been classified as “probable” as coronavirus deaths. The death certificate listed as a cause of death “COVID-19” or an equivalent”.

Between Tuesday and Thursday, there were also more than 90,000 new infections nationwide, an indication that the peak may still be months ahead, as new cases seem to mean that the virus continues to spread rapidly.

In all, the United States had 34,617 deaths and 57,508 recoveries from a total 677,570 infections as of Thursday night, according to the latest data.

The U.S. has recorded more deaths than any other country on earth, even as President Donald Trump continues to brag about the reportedly wonderful job he has done and blames everyone else for his own failures.

On Wednesday, he announced he would be halting funding to the World Health Organization (WHO) for reportedly mishandling the coronavirus crisis.

President Mnangagwa To Meet Chamisa, Khupe, And Mwonzora? | OPINION

By Dr Masimba Mavaza | The president of Zimbabwe joins the whole country including all opposition leaders in praying for Zimbabwe. It is not time to play politics, this virus needs all to come before the Lord. The world is in a locked down mode, life as we know it has changed. Streets are empty and businesses are closed. We are told to stay home and if we must venture out, to avoid touching our face and to wear mask to avoid spreading the deadly Corona Virus. We take no visitors and for once we can tell people not to even think about visiting us. Tens of thousands are dead around the world and hundreds of thousands are sick with no end in sight. Fear is everywhere and individuals scramble to write their last wills lawyers are busy up and down. No one is safe and no social class is immune. The whole world thousands are dead and in New York in the United States the dead are packed in refrigerated trucks. In London mass burials are allowed in the peace times. Fear and anxiety has gripped nations despite our claimed sophistication and knowledge of science. What the Spanish Flu did in 1918 when it killed millions has happened again with the corona virus. In our anguish and our fears we ask why and seek meaning for an invisible enemy that appears meaningless and violent in its ferocity.

As I look outside my window in my neighborhood, however, I can see the signs of life and the coming of spring. The flowers on the trees shake against the breeze in this sunny day. The daffodils in their many colours and shades shake against the wind and in God’s earth these plants announce a new year and the unfolding of a new season.
Perhaps the war vets who have lived through war time can tell you about the angst and worry about survival during a holiday. Humanity is seeing a very rich meaning in this trouble times.

The book of Mathew 21 : 1 – 11 tells of a story. Jesus is approaching Jerusalem and is getting ready to cross the three ridges called the Mount of Olives 2.4 miles outside the city of Jerusalem. As Mathew recalls the event, Jesus called two of his disciples and sent them on an errand. “Go to the village ahead of you, and at once you will find a donkey tied there, with her colt by her. Untie them and bring them to me.” (V2). Then one more thing he told the messengers in verse 3 “If anyone says anything to you, say that the Lord needs them, and he will send them right away.” Our Lord knew that there will be questions asked and people will need answers. Many commentators have disagreed on this passage. Was there a prior arrangement between Jesus and the owner or did the Lord of the universe foresaw what would happen if the owner of the donkey saw strangers untying his donkey. Many theologians think that this knowledge is supernatural. After all, the Prophet Zechariah had prophesied long ago that the Messiah would enter Jerusalem riding on a donkey. This was the messiah and his entry into Jerusalem that day fulfilled this prophecy.

It all happened as our Lord had instructed and when they brought the donkey back, the people took off their cloths and put on the back of the donkey for Jesus to sit. Those who had no clothes or the poor whose clothes could not withstand the wear and tear that might result, went into the woods and cut branches and put on the road so that the king might ride past. You can imagine the noise and the surprise of people in the city especially since there were many who traveled long distance so they could enjoy and worship during the feast of Passover.

I want to draw your attention this palm Sunday to two things in this old story of our faith: The first is the human need for meaning and the second is the human plea for deliverance and the need to rely on God. Let us first examine the human need for meaning.

The human need for meaning is overwhelming. We must make meaning of actions and events for through this, we make sense of the world. We all as human beings have a set of expectations about life and these expectations allow us to plan. We know time will continue, we will finish school, have jobs, get married, work and retire. All these form what social scientists call the assumptive world. The problem we have is: what happens when things occur and our assumptive world is violated? Where do we turn to when things are no longer the same? It was not different in Jesus’ time. Our Lord knew that questions would be asked and reasons for such actions sought especially since the donkey belonged to someone else. This need for meaning is still strong today and becomes the more pervasive and urgent in a post-modern world where few things make sense. We just push to get on but we merely get by. We wonder what the purpose is to try and be good, organize the community and make our lives meaningful.
As we watch the carnage of this pandemic, it is natural to wonder why and to ask where God is. As we hear about the need to protect oneself we wonder how we can shut ourselves inside without food and basic necessities. Some have lost jobs and means of livelihood in order to stay alive. Our assumptive world seems to be violated. We have lots of questions but very few answers and no one seems to know the right answers. How long will this last? What should we do and where do we turn to? We need to turn to the Lord.

As instructed, the disciples sent to fetch the donkey were simply obeying the voice of the savior. “The Lords needs it” they said. The Lord needs you in God’s kingdom. The Lord needs you to gather the broken pieces of the lives in your community. The Lords need your hands, your hearts and your minds no matter what twisted meanings others may find. The Lord needs all of us. You do not need to go outside and expose yourself to this virus in order to serve your community. You can call others and use social media to stay in contact. The Lord needs you to stop the spread by avoiding gathering in places with close contact with others. A few short weeks ago, a church weekly meeting defied the ban on gathering. as I am writing tonight, many of them are in critical condition in a hospital.

The Lord needs all of us to do our part in curbing the spread. In a letter that the Apostle Peter wrote to Christians who fled Jerusalem to other lands he specifically reminded them that it is Christian duty to obey authority whether it be governors or kings. (I Peter 2 : 13 – 15). This he reminded the church is pleasing to the Lord. If you insist on going to church when the authorities are banning public gathering, you are not serving God.
The second thing I want us to note in the story is the human plea for deliverance. It is common for us humans in difficult times to seek help. It is also possible to ask the wrong people for help and to get false help. This virus has no cure yet someone may try to sell you some snake oil ,anointed Corona virus healing or any strange concoctions.
At the time of Christ and during colonial rule in Palestine, conditions were unbearable. In our time as we are forced to shelter at home and see the world through television reports and our smart phones the fear is overwhelming. Reports of people who are battling the virus or dead are sent to us daily on our phones and smart devices. This virus respects no class and no hierarchy. From the Prince of England to the King of Swaziland from the very poor in public houses in London Hospitals to the poor factory worker in China to the powerful politicians in Law houses, no one is immune. Like those who were under the Roman yoke on that bright day when Jesus rode into Jerusalem we too must echo their cry “ “Hosanna” or save us now.

So in the middle of a pandemic what should we do? The Bible provides some suggestions. Our faith has always endured crisis and those before us had depended on God who has always been our help in ages past and our help in years to come. Consider these examples of what those who lived in fear and angst did on that day and what you can do today.

Have hope do not despair. The ancient took comfort in the word of the Lord. They reminded each other of the words of the prophet Zechariah that God does not forget God’s people. God told the prophet: “Say to the daughters of Zion, behold your king is coming” Do not lose hope, the Lord will come and will take away this scourge and life will return to normal. It was not an accident that the crowd on that day of Triumphant Entry into Jerusalem chose a song often sung during procession to the Temple. It was a song of anticipation of a better day in the future “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord”.The Lord will give us his peace and will provide what we need.

Do not forget to pray. Waiting can take us to God but it is important to remember that it can also take us away from God. With people out of work and not having enough to do at home, there may be temptation to drink excessively. “Your King is coming” the Prophet Zechariah had announced. We cannot wait for the king in a manner that does not honor the sovereign.

Tune out a little sometimes because listening to the news at all times can create fear. Hope should be devoid of fear.

Find something constructive to occupy your time.

You may not have all what you need think about improvising for what you do not have and avoid self-pity. Those who did not have cloths to throw on the donkey and on the road cut branches and participated in the praise.

Use your time indoors to tell the stories of your life to each other.
This virus will come to pass. Indeed it will come to pass.

God bless Zimbabwe. God bless you all. May God heal you and protect you all.
Together we will conquer.

FULL TEXT: Army Response to Beatings Investigation

This correspondence is in response to your media reports as published in ZimEye and NewsDay online publications over the Easter weekend.

Kenya Warns Magafuli To Stop Messing Around With The Coronavirus Or Risk Turning Country Into A Graveyard

Tanzania President Pombe Magufuli.

Paul Nyathi|Dennis Onyango, the spokesman of Kenyan ODM party leader Raila Odinga, has sent a chilling warning to Tanzanians over the COVID-19 pandemic.

Onyango said Tanzania, which still remains lockdown-free in the wake of Coronavirus outbreak, will soon be reporting massive cases of the deadly virus, just like the United States of America.

In a tweet on Thursday night, he pointed an accusing finger at President Pombe Magufuli, saying his strange behaviour in the face of COVID-19 would result into Tanzania becoming a graveyard.

Onyango said Magufuli, just like US’s President Donald Trump, has discarded science and decided to play politics with the disease which has killed over 145,000 people across the world.

“As it (COVID-19) has disorganized Donald, so will it disorganize Pombe. No eccentric leader is going to help his country out of Coronavirus. Only authentic leaders will. You play politics with science, you lose,” he posted.

Tanzania, which confirmed its first case three weeks ago, on Thursday recorded 11 Coronavirus infections, raising the country’s tally to 94.

The East African nation has already registered 4 deaths and 11 recoveries.

Magufuli has strongly refused to ban gatherings in places of worship arguing thats where true healing can be found.

On Thursday, he declared three national days of prayer so that Tanzanians can seek divine intervention over the highly contagious virus.

However, opposition leader Zitto Zuberi Ruyagwa Kabwe has urged citizens to adhere to directives issued by health professionals, and avoid gatherings such as churches and crusades.

“My fellow Tanzanians, due to COVID-19 I urge you to continue to avoid gatherings, wash your hands with soap and water regularly and follow health advice by professionals. God will hear us if we do our best to protect ourselves from infection,” Kabwe tweeted on Thursday.
