By A Correspondent- The women who arrived in Zimbabwe on 7 April 2020 from Botswana are still quarantined at a Bulawayo facility where they are yet to get their coronavirus tests results.
In an exclusive interview with ZimEye, the women said they are now being treated like prisoners where they are not allowed to ask questions regarding their overstay.
Said one of the women:
“The social welfare officers do not even want to talk to us and when we ask about our test results, no- one is forthcoming with any answers.
We are being treated like prisoners where we are not allowed to ask any questions but we have overstayed because today marks 30 days in quarantine.”
The women said their life at the United College of Education in Bulawayo is not only a pain in the neck but they are now being subjected to soldiers and police brutality.
“We are chased away by soldiers and one of the ladies fell and hurt herself while fleeing from them. The soldiers are also not only rude but they converse in Ndebele and expect us to understand even when we tell them that we cannot speak or hear the language.”
One of the women at the centre also said that they were being denied medication for other ailments besides HIV.
“Only those who are on ART are being given drugs but some of us who suffer from other ailments such as BP, we are told to fend the medication for ourselves. Asking the social welfare officials to go and buy the medication for us is also a challenge because they refuse to go and buy the medication for us. We are suffering.”
