Dear editor- On Monday I came face to face with the alarming level of incompetence and lack of professionalism within the police force.

I went to Masvingo Central Police Station to seek permission to travel to my rural home to see my sick brother – with the intention of taking him to hospital.

To my surprise the officers on duty tossed me from one office to another and I had to spend close to four hours at Masvingo Central Police Station.

While I eventually managed to have my application letter stamped, scores of people in the same predicament were denied permission to travel to their respective rural areas.

Some people literally wept as they were harassed by junior cops.As much as police officers are determined to enforce the lockdown restrictions, they must also be aware of the fact that people don’t just travel for fun.

I was pushed by the desire to save the life of our my sick brother- nothing else.

I would like to make a passionate appeal to the Police Commissioner and the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe to resolve the issue as a matter of urgency.

I am willing to present my case to President Mnangagwa and the Police Commissioner General – that I will certainly do, mark my words- worried citizen
