SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT – We the supporters and trustees of ZimEye Media, combined, have a special announcement to make concerning efforts by victims of military violence to obtain legal remedies outside Zimbabwe.
This development follows our successful public advocacy for victims of the 1 August shootings, that is, the pressure we put on the Motlanthe Commissioners to force military generals to testify on what they did to end the lives of many in August last year.
We got the Bar Standards Association to investigate the activities of one of the Motlanthe Commissioners, Rodney Dixon.
The latest of these efforts have seen the International Criminal Court finally becoming seized with the report and as at this time, we now have an official reference number and also direct access to the ICC prosecutor. This is special and crucial.
This development means for the first time victims of violence in Zimbabwe can file their complaints and we are glad to facilitate that.
The ICC reference number is: OTP-CR-174/19.
During consultations with several legal experts, the matter of jurisdiction came up but we are pleased that clarification has been passed beyond the bottleneck of Zimbabwe’s not being a -signatory to the Rome Statute.
Just as a summary- evidence submitted to date include ZBC broadcast video in which it was the clearly declared that civilians were going to come under state military terrorism just so that election results are altered and those fake results maintained afterwards.
It is encouraging that for the first time, the ICC are now going through this evidence.
From today henceforth we shall also be giving regular updates as and when they are available. – Trustees And Supporters
