COUPLE from Zvishavane has appeared in court after being found in possession of marijuana and bottles of Broncleer cough syrup.

Clifford Mutero (35), and his wife Rivert Mahati (29) pleaded guilty when they appeared before Zvishavane Magistrate Mr Archie Wochiunga.

They were remanded out of custody to August 28 on $150 bail each.

Mr Wochiunga had no kind words for the couple saying they have destroyed many lives.

“Drug dealers should never go unpunished as they have no respect for human life.

“Drugs have destroyed many lives and it is the duty of the courts to make sure that those who sell drugs especially to the youths are handed stiffer penalties.

“The amount of drugs that you were found in possession of, shows that you have been dealing in drugs for a long time hence you have been ruining people’s lives for a very long time,” said Mr Wochiunga.

Representing the State, prosecutor Mr Lloyd Mavhiza told the court that police pounced on the couples’ home following a tip off.

“On July 25, detectives pounced on the couple’s home in Maglass suburb in Zvishavane after getting a tip off that the two were engaged in illicit drug dealings,” he said. Mr Mavhiza said police discovered various types of drugs at the couples’ home.

“Upon arriving at the house, police discovered 35kgs of dagga, Broncleer cough syrups, maragado drug and drums of fuel.

“The two were immediately arrested after failing to produce legal documentation which permitted them to be in possession of the drugs.

“The consignment was confiscated and was used as exhibit in court,” he said.
